Welcome one and all to another edition of the show.
There's Retro.
Ola!
Hanging out in Buffalo, Buffalo, New York.
Meanwhile, back here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
It's myself.
And somewhere out there is Jack.
Jack is, are you studio home?
What are we doing, Jack?
What are we doing today?
What are we got going on?
I am at home today.
Out of boy.
I think we all kind of enjoy doing it this way.
It feels like Pindor's the only one.
and he loves to give grief about us being at home.
But the technology allows it.
I feel like we should embrace it.
I certainly have, Dean.
You certainly have for a long time.
For years and years and years,
you have embraced it for sure.
So what's your setup at home, Jack?
We're like a kitchen table guy.
You got a room dedicated to this.
How's it going?
I've got, so the guest room, we have two bedrooms upstairs.
I get the guest room.
So that's where I play my video.
games, I do my work, and the girlfriend gets the rest of the house.
That's how that works.
That's generally, yeah.
You get little, and they get a lot.
So you're not quite married yet, but you're well in your way, aren't you?
Yeah.
I got to figure out my setup here.
It's not ideal because I'm in this room.
You can hear that shit, right?
Kind of hear that clang in the bag.
It's actually kind of quiet right now, but it's, but it's, I got the, uh, the garbage trucks
outside. He's doing the
way, taking the, you know, the dumper
thing there. You get bogged down
by there he goes. I know.
People are very understanding
out there. Are they? Yeah, that's what
I found. They're not judged.
Yeah.
People are very ready
to give you the benefit of the doubt and just kind of
let things roll. Hey, we understand.
You hear that all the time. We understand.
Don't worry about it. It's all good. It's all
good.
Damn, I was going to get that.
I was going to get that photo.
Anyway, you know what?
Again, people will understand.
If there's something that isn't on the show today that we've forgotten about,
people will understand.
Or they won't know.
Or they just won't know.
Maybe I'll try and do it on the fly here coming up.
Let's get into it.
The opening statements for McLeod Law,
our buddies at McLeod Law, they're taking care of you,
taking good, good care of you, whatever it is that you need.
If something's come up in your life, something unfortunate, maybe,
maybe something fortunate, I don't know.
But generally, if you need some legal help,
something's gone a little bit sideways, perhaps.
but there's nobody better to help you out
and steer you straight, the McCloud Law.
Go McLeod-Dashlaw.com.
You'll find the website there, whatever it is.
They're going to find the best of the best
to help you out.
Personal business.
Peter Klein, our buddy Shane King.
Now, when we last talked to Shane,
that was about two months ago.
He was leaving on vacation.
Do you think he's back yet?
It might still be...
A month and a half.
He was going for a while.
Sunning himself, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, it might be.
I think he might be back.
Partnering the litigation and dispute resolution
group. Areas like employee rights being laid off, terminated can be hard. Shane will review your
situation and make sure you've been treated fairly and as the law requires. None of that legalese
that is going to talk to you like a bug me down with this BS. Give me the straight goods.
Straight goods indeed. Straight goods. Well, you are one game away, one victory away, potentially
from having a very happy young child in your house, this kid that wanted to go and watch the Panthers
play, but not until they played in the Stanley Cup final.
We weren't sure.
It feels like a little presumptuous there, kid.
Maybe how about semifinals?
Round two.
No, no.
Cup or bust for your kid?
Just like his old man.
Cup or bust?
Cup and bust.
Yeah.
We'll change that.
This year maybe that'll change.
So he's one win away from that coming to fruition.
As the Panthers win it by a score of three to two last night.
And it's for the first time all postseason.
The New York Rangers, they're on the break.
facing elimination after a 3-2 set back yesterday at Madison Square Garden.
It looked like a pretty good place to be.
It did.
MSG.
Yeah, it looked.
I feel like that's, there's something about that.
Now, you've said you don't like it there, right?
Because you've played there.
It's not a big deal or?
Oh, no, I never said I don't like it.
All right.
I like it.
I enjoyed playing there.
My kid was blown away, the older kid last night, that you played against the Rangers
and the tie-offs in, Matt.
Yeah.
It's like, your dad was a pretty big deal here.
Like, how old do you need to be before you realize?
Your old man.
But then he followed it up with, who hit you the hardest?
And I said, Lindros.
Yeah.
And he said, who's that?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was going to ask Jack.
Jack, do you know who that is?
Eric Lindross?
Do you are?
Yeah.
Yes, I do.
Okay, good.
Good, good, good.
I figured it was kind of a 60-40.
one way or the other.
Even like,
anyway.
Yeah,
anyway.
I won't talk that.
We'll talk about the game.
Now,
I know.
Damn,
Bennett was everywhere.
I put together a little thing, man.
Bennett,
because you know who texted me last night?
I could guess.
Yeah,
haven't heard from a while.
And in fact,
let me give you the verbatim.
Because I figured,
because I was watching the game,
and even without kind of thinking
necessarily about him,
I was like, boy,
Bennett's having a night.
Bennett's everywhere.
he uh anyway buddy of ours Greg Keller bontan meets best guy you're going to find um he has been a bennett guy
for so long and i think maybe by the end of his time as a calgary flame we kind of soured on him we
really as the fourth overall pick this heart and soul centerman who was really going to turn the
franchise around and it didn't really happen and there's there's probably reasons there's rationale
there's things that could have been done better he probably could have performed better it just didn't
happen and he's still not a number one center in the national hockey league but he's a
centerman and the flames could use a guy like that but whenever bennett does something of significance
i will get a text from gray keller saying benet benet benny benny something like that and i was it's
been a while since i gotten one and sure enough at about 902 i got the text i don't even have to
say the name is what his text is that i see
said yeah you don't and i said he's built for this and uh and he responded he sure is he really is
built for this stuff man he looks so good this is the first period he's found some room he clanks
that one off the post he's making plays he's loving getting his nose dirty he missed some
time with injury too look at the pass here he's looking off the defender threads it right through
onto the tape for forsling off the pad and in and then the empty net goal
I'm going to shrug you off.
I'm coming through.
You're going to come hit me.
No, I'm going to bounce off of you.
Eat it.
That ends up being the game winning goal because they would add one later.
But they look, I mean, he looks right at home.
And I was looking this morning on the night.
Goal assist, five shots, hit that post in the first period.
His regular season, points per game, 0.46.
So just under a half a point.
Playoffs, 0.67.
he has everything for him elevates when it comes to the playoffs and it really has right from his first year right it's true yeah and there's certain guys that do that you think of a teakin in an old days you know some of the old names i've learned you right there were guys that were just when they thrived yeah it was teams would almost get frustrated them at times where oh your regular season is oh but here you are okay you're good he loved he loves
it. Obviously, it's not a pressure thing for him. It's an excitement thing for him. And he plays with
that passion and on the edge, you wish to have been able to do it here more. Because I think if
if you had a few more playoff runs, you'd have noticed how effective he is in these situations.
He's played 76 playoff games, 51 points in those. Now you go back as he as a rookie, his first
year he played in the playoffs. And there was some mixed in there in Calgary. But over the last two
years last year 20 games 15 points this year 11 games nine points so he's clipping it just under a
point per game or well over a half and he's making this is where he's making his money and then you
look at the last two playoffs he had in calgary and it felt like every year we would end up talking about
Bennett being the best playoff performer yeah but that's a low bar because everybody else stunk
sam bennett did his job in the playoffs yeah in the 1920 where they uh
So remind me now that they've
Colorado.
Well, they beat Dallas and then lost to Edmonton, right?
That was 2022.
Right.
That was so yeah,
anyway,
eight points in 10 games in 1819,
five points,
or in five games.
He loves it.
He's built for it.
And they look like they're built for it.
And the Rangers,
you know,
Draggs is coming on.
Draggs is standing by.
We can bring Dregs in for this.
Darren,
T.
Hockey Insider and our Hockey Insider as we're,
uh,
I see we've got the,
the cup final where we know when it's going to start and how many days and
it's all going to start at 6 p.m.
mountain time and we know all this stuff.
We don't know who's in it.
So we,
it's amazing.
Some things we can organize and get our,
our poop in a group and other things we can't.
But I was just kind of,
and I know that Biaxa talked about it last night in the broadcast.
And Jack,
I put together just kind of a little Rangers thing.
Um, I just,
I,
he talked about how the,
the Panthers just seemed to have,
if you need somebody to give a little bit more,
if there's just a little extra jam,
you can find it.
And this one here,
maybe it's cherry picking,
but here's Mika Zabanajad at the 93.
So we kind of,
they've got an empty net here.
You need to protect your net.
He bounces off of Bennett like he's been shot.
Watch the,
this is the effort that you're giving
to try and keep a puck from in a pivotal game.
Oof.
It goes in the net.
And then they look at the body language here.
Okay,
we've got a minute.
You've just gotten back to within a goal.
You're within a goal with 49 seconds left.
Where's the let's go, boy.
Look at this.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was sent to me almost immediately by at least three people from other
NHL clubs.
I couldn't, I couldn't believe it.
It's a tough look, right?
It's a real bad look.
And they've been,
Blumer in fairness, he didn't have a bad game.
He hasn't created or contributed offensively in this series.
He puts up a couple of assists.
I mean, Chris Kreider was in that grouping.
Chris Kreider scores a shorty to get the game rolling, you know, won nothing.
I mean, it's stacked up well with their stars showing up.
And then you see that with the game and potentially the series basically on.
on the line.
And that's a tough look for a player that you need to be part of the execution,
not part of the problem, right?
So we'll see how that's addressed here before the next game.
And then on the flip side, you do feel like everybody is on board on the other side.
You watch Florida play and it's, they get a third line center.
He gets a goal.
A defenseman gets a goal.
Yeah.
They just get it done.
And they're, I know Matthew could,
you could Chuck talked about it because he has the turnover on the power play that leads to the
cried or short-handed goal. And he says, I make a play there that ordinarily 99% of the time
I'm going to make it, but it's a bad play. I turn the puck over. It's in our net. But immediately after,
all the guys come together to help bail me out. And we don't sag, we don't take a step back. We just
continue to press and then we get the goal. Yeah. They, they too, like Bennett, who we talked about,
I think before you go on, they're just built for this, for this time of year.
Well, and you know what?
For me, their personality is that of their leaders.
And it starts with Barkov, right?
Barkov isn't looking for flowers.
He's just going out there and he's going to play the game that he's capable of playing.
And the expectation from that group with Barkov, obviously, the appointed leader,
is, all right, we're all going to play the same way.
It doesn't matter what your paycheck says.
it doesn't matter what the term of your contract is.
It doesn't matter if your first power play, second,
none of that matters.
You know, our approach and our commitment to playing as a team is what matters.
You know, I think it was going into last year.
And then it was, you know, he being Paul Marie's doubled down on this sentiment prior to the start of this postseason.
And Paul and I go back 25 years and we're having a conversation.
Okay, well, you know, your team seems to have layers to it.
And he goes, honestly, he said that's arguably the most impressive thing for me and the coaching staff is that we can play in a game you want.
Yeah.
You want to get into the ditch and play that down and dirty style.
We're there for it.
And we thrive in that sort of environment.
You want to swap punches offensively?
Yeah, we can do that.
You want to lock it down defensively and play super structured.
Yeah, we're happy to do that as well.
when you've got that sort of commitment from everybody on board,
I know nothing about winning a Stanley Cup other than the eye test and what I've seen.
And right now, as we look at the final four,
and it's saying a lot when you look at the Dallas stars and what the Oilers are doing over on that side,
the New York Rangers, what they accomplish this season.
The Florida Panthers for me are the best bet to win the Stanley Cup.
They are.
And some credit there to Bill Zito, because you think back,
and it's tough because Calgary's on the on the other end.
Yeah.
But he looks at his team and he's,
we're not getting by the lightning.
We're not good enough.
We need to make some,
we need to make some big changes here.
Matthew Kachuk's available.
Yeah.
We need,
this is the type of player that we need.
Yeah.
Hubert O had been a great Florida Panther.
Yeah.
And to give up on Uyghur is tough and to give all that.
But this is a guy that we,
that we need to win.
Yeah.
And they are going,
they're a game away from going to back to back to back cup finals.
Well, and look at the dabbling effect here.
And I'm using that word dabbling in relation to Vladimir Teresenko.
There was a trade market for Teresenko, but it wasn't like blowing out the seams.
Come on.
I mean, this guy brings a bit of a rap sheet with him.
You know, some games he's engaged, some games he's not so engaged.
At least that was the M.O.
prior to his arrival in Florida.
Now, he handpicked Florida.
I mean, you guys remember his media availability when he became a Florida panther.
He basically said it was one team and it was Florida.
That's where I wanted to go.
My family is here.
And that's where he ended up.
But he's living, you know, he's holding up his end of the deal.
He is.
I thought he was terrific last night.
He's blocking shots.
You know, he had the screen on the Lundell goal.
I mean, again, I just, I'm repeating myself here, but it's hard not to give everything you've got
when you see the best players in your lineup doing that.
Like you guys know Sam Bennett well.
I mean, obviously, he's hurt.
We know he's hurt.
You know, he's not taking draws.
And I would say, with all due respect to Matthew Kuchuk, when healthy, Sam Bennett is their best center.
And, you know, he just gives everything he has.
He's as physical as any player in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
And he's finding a way to produce.
It's not sucking his thumb because.
he's got an injury that's preventing him from taking draws.
No, he's doing all the other things that he can do to help his team win.
I just, I'm fascinated by the Florida Panthers.
I can talk about that team all day.
And another guy who elevates, because we were talking,
it's a special thing.
We're seeing a lot of guys who don't.
There's plenty of guys who are getting a lot of getting gears because they,
they just don't seem to be able to perform at this time of year when it ratchets up.
Sergey Bobrovsky, the regular season.
he couldn't be bothered some nights, it seems.
Right.
But when he gets here,
he has proven to be money for the most part.
Yeah.
And look,
you know,
there was a time not that long ago where,
you know,
you gave credit to Billy Zito deservedly.
So where he was staying awake at night,
trying to figure out how to unload that contract of Sergey Barowski.
He just couldn't.
Ten Schmell,
are you kidding?
How are we going to eat this?
What are we going to do with that?
And then they go on that crazy run last year.
And whether that just re-energized Brabowski,
don't know whether it's the new coaching staff,
the new look of the Florida Panthers,
where this guy is finally bought in to being the goaltender that you need to be,
to, again, challenge for the Stanley Cup.
I don't know.
But your top money, guys, it's not cliche.
They've got to find a way to deliver.
And now so you go back to the New York Rangers,
And think of Artemey Panarin here.
If you remember the Toronto Maple Leafs,
I mean, Mitch Marner was almost on a milk carton through the Stanley Cup playoffs.
People were just enraged at his lack of productivity, right?
Well, the New York Rangers are getting Bubkis from Artemie Paneran.
And, you know, Panarin, Kreider, Zabanajad, go down the list of their top paid guys,
Fox and Trouba.
Truba, our Fox, I think, is
hurt as well. But they're
just, they're not getting enough.
And that's probably what it'll boil
down to when that series ends.
Retro, we talked about it the other day when you can be,
it felt like
for the Rangers, they're sneaking by kind of a Cinderella team.
Well, how can you be Cinderella when you're the President's
trophy winners? But it
feels like, to keep the Cinderella,
it feels like it struck midnight. Like, they've
kind of gone into the pumpkin here. The two
wins that they got, they were,
involved in games, both in overtime.
And I don't know that they were really, they weren't the better team, whether they deserved
it or not, but they've been on the wrong side of the shot, the shot total, the scoring
chances and everything for five straight games.
The top guys haven't been able to make the difference when they need to.
I mean, like you said, last night, they had some points, but their top guys aren't controlling
and taken over the game at all that cried, or three against Carolina and the third there,
that historic type of that line was buzzum in that third period like they dominated the canes that
period you're not seeing that against the panthers and i can't help but think it's not that
that line doesn't want to do it right the florida panthers are a different beast yeah and that's a
good point you know again we we we always gravitate to the negative right uh and you're looking at
at krider who by the way is just a monster of a human being like for him not to be you know
to be effective in this series.
I'm with Rhett. That's more to do
with what the Florida Panthers
are throwing at them because
when you're stopping a guy of that size,
he wants to win. He's trying.
It's not like he's just mailing it in.
I mean, we're not seeing the shifts
that we saw from me as a manager
ad that, you know, you illustrated
it off the top of the segment from Chris Grider.
It's just Florida is so
tuned in and well-oiled
that maybe
it just doesn't matter.
maybe they're just that team this year.
And so, and what is the, like, what's the recipe?
What do you do? Do you not get physical with them?
Do you get overly physical with them?
Do you try and I don't know what the, what the recipe is?
If anything, I guess you.
Don't forget. It's been tight, right?
Like, and whether they, they deserve the two wins they got or not is irrelevant.
Goaltending matters.
Just circans keeping them in.
They get one more goal or this or that.
Like, I'm with you.
I think you just, when you start, my fear always when a coach or a team starts to adjust in the playoffs to try and play a different style or a different game or that means the other team is dominating.
And typically it doesn't work out anyway.
I would think if I'm the Rangers and I'm the coach, hunker down, boys.
Maybe it's 5% more.
Maybe there's a little more to squeeze.
maybe somebody feels a little bit better.
But to try and adjust your whole game plan,
and again, against a team like Drake's just said,
Maurice is happy to play whatever style you want.
What are you going to do?
You've got to stick with what you know,
play the way you've played all year.
You were first overall the whole season.
You won the presidents.
If you have to adapt your game and change it and dress your lineups,
I think you're in trouble.
Yeah, and Labby's tried, right?
Like, you know, Heedl was in.
then he scratches he'dle.
Blake Wheeler is in.
I mean, he takes a tough penalty, which obviously costs them.
But now Wheeler is out.
It feels like, it feels like even though, hey, I'm not so sure that series doesn't end last night.
If Igor Shisterkin isn't Igor Shisterkin in this series.
Like, it really has him in that close.
Florida has outplayed them despite the fact that, you know, the Rangers have squeaked a couple up.
it kind of feels like
Igor Shisterkin is going to have to be out of his mind
to keep that, like pitch a shot out, right?
And maybe they get another greasy one or, you know,
Florida has a bad break,
something along those lines.
But as good as Shisterkin has been and he's been terrific,
it almost feels like he's got to be perfect for them to extend the series.
And Retro, I think you brought it up early that this is for the Rangers.
They've been to the playoffs,
but this is kind of the first time that,
they're the darling, right?
They won the president's trophy.
The Panthers, they did this a year ago.
We're going to come from behind.
We're good in our own skin.
Maurice talked about it afterwards because they've won,
they got 11 wins, six are by one goal.
They've had to come from behind a number of times.
They scored overtime goals.
You remember Kachuk just skating off the ice last year,
doing it.
Being down, being down in the third, all of that,
this is they, it's not that it's old hat,
but they've done this and been there,
It feels like a team that went, they figured it out last year and they had that wonderful run that fell short.
But it does feel like a team that isn't overly concerned with stats during the regular season.
Personal or team.
Let's get into the playoffs.
Yeah.
And our focus has nothing to do.
And I'm going to take a pot shot.
Kind of opposite of maybe what the Toronto Maple Leafs have.
where some of the guys are real excited to put up personal stats stuff.
That's all fine and good.
But it's until you lose in the playoffs.
And the Florida Panthers, to me, are the opposite of that.
They don't give a shit about the regular season.
And they actually don't give a shit about if Kachuk scored or Barkoff scores or
Borowski has a shutout.
Did we win this playoff game?
Oh, we did.
Here's the finger.
We're on the way home.
Let's go.
Yeah.
You know, it kind of reminds us.
me of Pittsburgh back in the back to backs, right? They lose to the Detroit Red Wings,
a heartbreaker, come back the next year, and let's let's get at it again, right?
You know, I mean, even Tampa Bay, right? Yeah, class of Hall of Famers on both sides there.
Don't get me wrong. But, you know, losing sucks. It does, especially losing in the Stanley
Cup final, right? So, yeah, I mean, I just, I don't see weakness. And,
As long as, again, time of year conference finals,
there wouldn't be many players who aren't dinged up to some degree.
And some guys are playing, you know, wrapped in duct tape.
That's just the way it is.
But it kind of feels like something catastrophic is going to have to happen here.
Not predicting that, of course.
Hope it doesn't happen because you never want that to weigh into a series.
But it does feel like maybe that is what would have to happen
to upset the momentum of the Florida Panthers at this point.
Speaking of injuries, I guess game time decision for Chris Tannib, Pete DeBore says he's optimistic.
The puck hit him in a soft spot or whatever he said this morning.
So walking boot on the right foot of Chris Tanev, it feels like this could be a big swing in this series that has.
Again, it's been close in terms of victories, but boy, at times it's been so lopsided within the games.
It's been a hard one to try and figure out and impossible to predict.
Right. So my take on Chris Tannaf is this. Unless the Dallas stars, doctors tell him he cannot play, he's going to play or he's going to try and play, right? I mean, it's no shock. You guys have watched the series closely through the playoffs. I mean, Pete Dabor leans on five guys. And really, he leans on three, four guys. You know, you're talking about TANF.
Essel and Lendell, Heiskenon, of course, Ryan Suter.
But beyond that, I mean, are you better with a 25% Chris Tanniff than you are with Lundquist or Pooleyot coming in for four or five minutes?
I mean, you're going to, you're going to, all you're doing is loading up Haskinen and the other guys anyway, right?
If Tannif, yeah, that's what they did the other night.
Especially when you're at home.
Yeah.
You can manage it a little bit better for sure.
I just, you guys know Chris Tannoff.
Like, come on.
Like, he'll, if he can get that skate on that foot and there isn't anything structurally wrong.
Well, there is something.
For sure, there's something there.
But it's a time of year where you play with a broken bone if you're Chris Tanov.
So I just feel like divorce says game time.
That to me means that it's going to be up to the doctor.
the doctor of the Dallas stars to say he's not going otherwise he's going yeah my only question
would be and I mean none of us can answer it but it's it's and and if he's not going to be able to
contribute yeah and you think that 48 hours from now it's going to be free and clear as opposed
to yeah yeah you know what I mean but I do unless you have the back
background in for on the entry.
No, I don't.
But, okay.
The semifinals, like you said, I'll be damned if I'm going to throw a game away just to hope to have a better for the next one, right?
Like, here's an Advil, tape it on.
Let's go.
Well, especially the way that game unraveled, the last game, right?
Two of them.
Yeah.
Great start by the Dallas stars.
Poof, they punt, you know.
So now all of a sudden, you know, like, if you're McDavid and you're Leonie,
And you're Hyman and your Nuge and you're Evan Bouchard, all the pieces that they have going right now.
And Chris Tannoff isn't in the lineup tonight, you're not spitting the bit on that one, I don't think.
And then you clearly have your foot on the throat of the Dallas stars going into the next one.
And if TANF wasn't healthy enough to go in game five, plays in game six, he's not close to 100%.
Right.
And look, I'll tell you, and I don't know if you guys would agree with this.
This was the scouting report from the perspective of the Oilers going in of this series.
They felt like there was going to be more room for McDavid and Drysidal and the forwards.
In this series against Dallas and there was against Vancouver because they didn't have to deal with the trees, I think is what they call them.
Like Zodora and Tyler Myers got a nine-foot wing span and got no disrespect to Tannuf and then Mara Heiskin and all of that.
It's just they felt like there would be more space out there.
And I think for the most part, it's kind of played out that way, hasn't it?
So now all of a sudden, you've got an opportunity if Canop's not even close to being
healthy or doesn't play, you can't miss that opportunity if you're Edmonton.
You've got to be all over that.
It's been so wild because I was looking at the swings.
In game one, Oilers blow the two-nothing lead.
They win it in overtime.
In game two, Jamie Ben scores and then Connor Brown scores.
fours under a minute later.
Game three, the Oilers blow the lead.
Game four, it's been, it has been really wild.
What do you make? Because I know, as you can imagine out here, we get a lot,
we're getting a lot of oiler content.
But I have to remember not to call him Chuck, because Red calls him Chuck.
Knoblock has made a lot of, he's made some shifting on the fly, has made some calls.
He's getting a lot of praise for it.
Is it deserving of that praise or some of that just kind of straightforward?
stuff that he's been doing. No, I think he's deserving of the praise, especially if you look at the last
game, right? You know, you take out, so let's just do the math here, you take out Fogel and
Carrick, and you bring Corey Perry back into the mix. Ryan McLeod was banished for a game,
deservedly so, deservedly so. He looked overwhelmed at times, you know. So they hit the reset
button with their forwards, but not only do they bring those guys back in the mix, they plot them
on the second line with Leon Drysaintiff.
And that's just a recognition of Drysidal's ability to adapt, right?
So now, you know, it's Leon Drysidal who's changing his game to fit the style of
Corey Perry and Ryan McLeod also has to adjust to fit that style.
And I thought that Corey Perry was super effective in the last game.
I was a bit surprised, to be fair.
I mean, they generate a goal.
Perry is a big part of that.
that you've got the darnel nurse story you know all the negative publicity around him um so yeah at the end
of the day it's chris noblock who as head coach ultimately makes those calls but he leans heavily as
he should on his assistant coaches so glenn gallison would have tremendous influence on the
decision to shift those forwards around and paul coffee is making the call on on the defensive change
Bring in Phil Broberg into the mix.
I mean, that's a ballsy call.
It is.
This guy's got no experience.
And you're taking Darnay out of the equation,
who has been a constant in that Oilers lineup for, what, all year, right?
You know, big body guy.
So I think collectively that coaching staff is worthy of the recognition and they deserve it.
I don't know how to word this one, but, you know, we,
you talked about the top line or.
I did brought it up the top line, maybe not producing as much for the Rangers.
Zabandajad with maybe some bad body language.
Teams blowing leads.
Is this just new age hockey?
Because we're old men and we think that when we played everything,
we were the hardest workers and we would never let this stuff happen.
But like Dallas has a chance to go up three to one and basically, of course,
they can lose.
Yeah.
But they blow it.
And they don't seem to have a lot of bite about it or any pushback or any F you or even
even the instinct to put an end to it.
And you could even say that about Dallas or I mean, pardon me, Edmonton that went up by
two the game before.
It's like, why aren't you guys ending this right now?
Score.
Put the dagger in them.
And it's not just this series.
It's been many series, Colorado and Dallas game one.
Yeah.
That series.
What the hell happened there?
I don't know, man.
Is it a, is it a, is it a, we keep, I don't, I don't know what it is either, but I, I get worried that the Zanadadad, just because it's fresh in my mind, that doesn't look like a guy that gives a hell.
Damn, about the Stanley Cup.
Right.
And I can't imagine, Pinder always gives me help because I, he's, don't question, how do you know?
You, you're sitting in your couch watching this.
And it's fine, but it sure comes across as these guys will pack.
it in.
I don't know if that's,
that's just the style of game it is nowadays.
If they're not taught how to,
like Bennett raises and elevates and you think you see more out of them.
Right.
A lot of teams and a lot of players, it's like,
eh, like that Harley goal.
The two on one against Harley's playing,
he shouldn't shoot it on the power play.
It gets blocked.
Fine.
Okay, I wasn't a power play specialist.
What do I know?
But it's a two on one.
coming on him and he basically stands there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was blown, I'm like, you're just going to back up?
He's just going to let them have it?
Yeah.
Okay.
Like, I don't know, like, am I seeing something that's not there?
It's funny, though.
So we're sitting in our viewing room at TSN, and Bruce Boudreau was on our post-game panel
the other night.
And, you know, so Dallas goes up to nothing.
And that second goal goes off Darnel Nurse's ass in the net.
Like it finds a hole in Stu Skinner.
And he's like, I don't know, they better get the third one because holding this lead is going to be a real tough one.
And I'm looking at him going, it's two nothing five minutes into the hockey game here.
And you've already got the tables turning.
And he goes, I know, but that's the way the game is played now, to your point, Brett.
And I don't understand it.
It must drive coaches bonkers, you know.
And but is it as much, it's almost like a lethal combination of trying to get the third goal
as opposed to then trying to lock it down and protect that two goal lead, you know.
So you kind of get sloppy in both areas.
You're counting on getting that third one, but maybe you're abandoning your structure
just out of desperation to get the third one because you're pretty confident that that two goal lead,
isn't going to hold that early in the game.
I mean, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
And like you say, it's on both sides.
It's a team's inability to hold leads or to,
did NHL put the number out this morning?
It's the fifth consecutive day that there's been a come from behind win
in the conference final.
The Panthers have six wins in Come from Behind fashion.
They had seven.
It's the most since last year.
And then it was like the year before.
it's it's not just you retro the numbers back it up that whatever you want to call it kids today
as us old guys gather around and you know shoot the shit but it's it does feel like there's
on one side teams are very resilient or teams are not very mentally strong i don't know there's
not a lot of off the glass and out defensemen in the nchel anymore there really isn't
and around trade deadline you know you you get your old school managers who
covet that type of defenseman for this time in the playoffs where it doesn't need to be fancy.
It just needs to get the job done.
And, you know, I haven't counted turnovers, you know, game.
Well, you do game by game.
You look at the event summary post game.
All right.
Well, this team coughed the puck.
You puck away this many times.
But it does feel to me like we see more defensive zone turnovers now.
Try to make plays.
Yes.
trying to make plays.
Yeah.
And I don't know if that's
in the DNA of the player.
It is.
It is because I'm around the young kids nowadays.
And the hard part, again, is like you're trying to do too much or you're trying to do too little.
You don't want to get caught doing either.
But the kids, they see the highlights and they see the plays.
They want to make the play.
And when it works, it's way easier and way better rather than, okay, let's shoot it out.
And they're going to come back at us and we've got to defend.
So there's a kid that plays for.
Saginaw. Zane Perrek, right? You guys have heard of him. He's, he's going to be a top draft
pick this here. Sam Dickinson from the London Knights and another one, he is so good.
But I'm watching these two guys at the Memorial Cup last week, Friday, Saturday. And, you know,
I'm watching Perrek, who again, highly rated playing the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.
He gets hit below the goal. I'm just on a forecheck, just a simple hit, stays down on both.
plays, Moose Jaw scores. No penalties, right? So it is the first time I've seen this kid live.
And I'm like, yeah, I'm talking to a bunch of the scouts there. And one guy says to me, well,
he said, you know, that his closest comparison is Eric Carlson. I'm like, pardon? Like Norris
trophy winning Eric Carlson. He says, yeah. I mean, watch, watch him move the puck. Watch how he
skates. Watch how he transitions, all of those things. And then he was, but then watch him defensively.
watch how he gets tagged.
Yeah, he's Eric Carlson.
That's what he is.
I guess you take the good and the bad with all that.
Again, it's in the DNA of these young players as they're making their way.
I guess moving on, we're down to one coaching job with, obviously Seattle gets their work done.
We got San Jose.
Sure, a lot of Marco Sturm talk there.
There is.
I mean, hey, he's good for him.
Ontario, right?
in the American Hockey League.
Anyway, what's going on in Carolina?
We know that Rod the bought is staying.
They've moved out their general manager.
More so about Marty Naches.
Every team now is, Marty Naches is available.
Well, he's highly skilled.
We should get this guy.
Yes, of course.
So why is he as expendable as we're being led to believe?
And what does it take to get a Marty Natchez?
Yeah, well, I mean, they want a top player, right?
Now, you look at what Eric Tulski's the interim general manager
and Tom Dunnan are facing, it's just a slew of free agents.
You know, if they don't get their defense guys signed,
when you're talking Skye and Brett Pesci,
I mean, they're going to have to rebuild that blue line.
So I think if somebody offers up a top three, four defenseman,
while you're going to get the Carolina Hurricanes attention on Marty Natchez,
you know, beyond that, you're looking at an A prospect,
something along those lines.
But, you know, what's a consequence?
Rock looked like for Martin H's.
You know, there's a number being thrown out there that he wants $8 million a year.
And, you know, he's going to ask for $8 million in arbitration.
Well, what if he gets it?
We have to be prepared for that.
I mean, that's just the reality of his situation.
He's a good player.
Obviously didn't necessarily fit the eye of Rod Brindamore, who basically had him as a
third line player and a second unit power play guy.
So he wants a change of scenery.
He's 25 years old, versatile forward.
seems more of a winger to me than a center,
but he's listed as a center.
And look, I think more than half the league has inquired on this guy,
mostly because those players aren't normally available at this age.
So, yeah, I mean, somebody's going to get a good player,
but they better have the cap space because he's going to have a high demand.
And, you know, you better be okay with his dad chirping every once in a while
and talking to the media about what's not going on.
on with his voice. Yeah, Donnie Waddell
and say hi to his dad for me.
That'd be great. That'd be great.
Yeah, I guess
we'll get into free agents, I guess,
over the next few weeks, but it's
already kind of starting.
I think everybody kind of feels like Reinhardt,
he'd be crazy to leave and they'd be crazy to let him leave
because it's such a great fit. And then there's the
Stamcoast one that's maybe
one ledge underneath.
If you're handicapping today,
is that I'm just going to stay.
I'll sign a contract, lower money.
I'm happy in Tampa.
I've won some cups.
This is where I need to be.
Or is there still more juice to be squeezed out of stamp coast there?
Yeah, well, I mean, based on the numbers that he posted last year, right?
I mean, he's still a prolific game-breaking player.
That's what his ability is right now.
It's not going to be that way three, four, five years from now.
But right now that's the way it is.
I think that he wants to stay.
I mean, that's pretty obvious.
You know, his owner would want him to stay.
They bring in Ryan McDonough.
I can't believe they're bringing in Ryan McDonough
if they're not going to try and keep the band together, right?
But it's going to take master class work by Julian Braesbaw
to make the cap gymnastics fly.
You know, that's just, you know, the nature of the beast.
But he's done it before and I think he'll do it again.
I don't really have any deep insight information on this,
other than there is a healthy, healthy appetite from both sides to get something done.
So it feels like, and I'd apply the same thing to Sam Ryanhart.
Can I jump in there?
Because I've argued with Pinder about this, where if you want to have a set of balls,
you let them walk.
Yeah.
If the demand is, like the term is what's going to get you there, right?
And that's just it.
It's depending on what he wants to do to you.
And I thought that about many guys, older guys,
and it's easy to say, well, you've made your money.
Do you want to win some more or do you want to squeeze out all you can?
But I think even more so for me on this point,
I don't think Tampa wins with that group again.
And that's my personal opinion.
And it can be right.
The other side.
That's why I don't want him.
I don't want him back.
Wouldn't bring him back at any type of hindrance to what I want to do moving forward.
I just think that that band, like you said, has one.
and they've been really good, but it's over.
You need to start, and you need to accept those things at some points, right?
When you try to hang on and you honor those guys that have won for you, that's righteous and that's great.
And I don't give a shit.
Doesn't matter to me if Tampa Bay, basically, it's good.
But I think it's a hindrance to your success moving forward.
I understand that argument.
I do.
And there's validity to it.
It just feels like if you're going to be.
going to play that card, then you've played that card already.
You know, even if it's at the end of the season where Julian Breezwalk comes out and says,
look, I'm not making any guarantees.
I don't respect to Stephen Stamco's and what he's done as the captain of the top,
Tamppe Lightning, there needs to be a negotiation and a conversation.
But we've got specific needs, wants, and terms that are going to be embraced.
And we didn't win.
we didn't win.
So if there's a deal to be made, then I'm on board with that.
But we also have some holes that need to be filled.
So it's going to be a challenge to get this time.
He didn't say that.
What he said was they're going to do everything they can to bring Stamco's back.
So it kind of feels like if they were going in the direction of cut and bait,
I think we'd know that by now.
I do.
We're a month outside from July 1st here.
I know.
Yeah, I know.
And you know what, we're a week away.
I was going to ask you, for you guys at TSN, what's your thing for the cup final?
Do you travel?
What's your story?
Well, it depends.
If it's an Oilers Stanley Cup final, yes, we travel.
If it's a Dallas Stanley Cup final, we don't travel.
We'll cover in studio.
And look, you know, five years ago, I probably would have been kicking and screaming over that.
but the way that the schedule is so condensed.
Not the Stanley Cup schedule.
They've got that thing running forever, right?
I mean, it could end on the 24th.
You know, and if that's the case, then, you know,
we're going right from the Stanley Cup final to Vegas in preparation for the draft.
And then, oh, by the way, we've got free agent frenzy on July 1st.
So I'm jumping on a red eye leaving Vegas to get back for July 1st.
So, yeah, I'm, you know, I'd like to see a Canadian.
being team in the Stanley Cup final.
I really truly would, but it might make my life a little bit easier.
And it's all about me being selfish here.
Yeah.
Trust me.
I want you to relax.
So let's get Dallas in there.
You know, it's all about you, Dregs.
Whatever's best for you.
I'm down with that.
I'm down with that.
No problem.
Appreciate you.
Have a fine weekend, buddy.
You too, guys.
Thanks for having me.
Thanks, pal.
Darren, TSN, Insider, our insider here on Barnburner.
As, yeah, we're going to be a wild game.
tonight and there's to your point there's no way to know how how the hell because even inside
of games no lead feels safe no you don't know who's committed to coming back you thought
skinner was going to soil himself i did anyway yeah they were up to i'm like oh here it comes it's
going to be an absolute smart bubble yeah yeah the other way what yeah i went just kind of going
through game one oilers up two nothing blow it win in overtime game two game two ban
scores. Okay. Under a minute later, tied.
Great. Way to protect the lead. Game three, two nothing oilers,
737 in. Stars get three and three and a half minutes in the second. Then Henrique
ties it and you get to the, and then the stars blow the two nothing lead five and a half in
and get rolled up. How the hell do you have any clue? What are your thoughts on
Tanaf? Because you always talk about the, a doctor can't tell me if I'm hurt. He can't tell me
what I'm feeling.
I can give a doctor
whatever answer I need to.
I'm not dumb.
Does this hurt?
Nope.
Does this hurt?
Nope.
Now, an x-ray,
they can look at it or MRI and go,
well,
hurt or not,
this is,
we're not letting you go out there.
Not a,
but whatever.
It's so tough because,
because like Driggs was saying,
if you,
if you've got 10 of it,
whatever,
like 25, 30%,
50%,
where does that,
because they have Yanni Hock and Paw.
He's been out since March 16th,
but is not available for this game.
Maybe game six,
but he's not ready to go.
So it's Nils Lundqvist,
who has played 12 of the playoff games this year,
but he's played four and a half minutes a night.
Pooleyot has not been playing.
He's got two playoff games to his credit
from 15, 16 with Pittsburgh.
And then Leon Bischel,
who's a kid,
he's not played in the NHL yet.
Those are the options.
So it's a steep drop when,
and you've already got,
Petrovic playing, who you'd probably rather have upstairs eating corn right now.
So what do you do?
Do you go with Tanev?
And then you roll that dice in a game that is so pivotal for your season.
If Tenev gets in and after four shifts, I can't go.
I don't think you're down to five.
Yeah.
I don't think it makes a difference as long as it's not one of those triple overtime games.
You know what I mean?
Like if it's, I think that the Dallas, you want them to play.
play you want to be good you want to be healthy all that shit if he doesn't play i think heiskin and lindel
and what's the other guy are going to play 35 minutes and out of 60 anyway so whether it's
tannive getting hurt after you know finding out after 10 minutes yeah this isn't that good or some
kid just sitting there anyway i don't think it makes a difference yeah he's going to want to play
he's going to want to play i don't think it's going to yeah and if he's either
they're going to be good enough or he's not.
Like frickin Rickier played with a broken foot in the
finals. Like guys do play.
And there's ways of
masking the pain.
Yeah. Just give me some of that.
We don't talk about it, but there are ways to
deal with some of them.
Does that horse tranquilizer?
Shh. Don't worry about it.
Just don't worry about it. Lay down.
I feel great. I know you do. I knew you would.
Have a great game, buddy.
Have a great game, buddy.
Go get it.
Yeah.
Wanted to, you know, our buddies over at origin,
I've been kind of teeing it up.
I got it, I was texting with Sterling today.
By next week, we're going to have some,
we're going to have some news.
It's going to be big news.
But also our,
now, if Pinder were here,
he'd be so pumped because one of his favorite spots is the ship and anchor.
We've been talking about the ship.
And the ship has been,
you know,
taking care of the boys at origin,
getting it on the,
getting it on taps.
They've got the,
if you swing by,
you're going to be able to have yourself
a little bit of the Mexican logger
over it.
Look at these donkeys.
Fellas.
Look at these fellas.
Enjoying a little bit of a little bit of a beverage.
As it is on the tap,
they rotate them in and out,
but you're going to be able to go by
and have a little bit of the Mexican logger right there
with the origin,
malting, and brewing.
It's taking over, buddy.
Pretty good.
Pretty pretty good.
So go and have yourself one.
Why wouldn't you?
It's the weekend.
I don't even know what the weather's going to be,
but it doesn't matter.
Oh,
it doesn't matter.
Just go have yourself one.
Or if you're in,
you know,
the hell of difference does it make what the weather is?
Yeah, it don't matter.
Or go by the tap room,
go and see them right there in,
in Strathmore,
60 Spruce Park Drive.
They've got the,
the kitchen open,
firing out great grub.
The homegrown logger,
the Mexican logger,
the Pioneer IPA,
the Lazyer Days,
haze,
hazy IPI. I've heard it's so good.
I got to get some on order here, get them delivered again.
Yeah, yeah. The Rockyford Raspberry, the prickly pear,
guava gosa, the backdraft. And of course, the barn burner blonde.
I mean, let's be honest, let's get right to it. It's the barn burner blonde.
Love it. It's going to be a big summer for the blonde. It's very crushable.
It is. Let's get some sunshine. Let's get some sunshine.
Yeah, in the event that we actually get some,
some nice weather.
But there you go.
That's what you need right there.
Hello, Mama.
The old blonde,
nothing like a,
you know,
spending the summer with a blonde?
Good times.
Laws have more fun.
They sure do.
Yeah,
they do, buddy.
Better watch it.
I believe both of our wives are brunettes.
Steady as she goes.
Let's,
let's do the Pinder report.
Oh,
you know what I didn't do?
I didn't give the,
because the Friday is Hawaiian shirt day.
So, you know,
If you want to, go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.
Yeah.
Hits a little different without dummy.
Without dummy around here because he's always...
I actually saw a Hawaiian shirt in my room the other day.
I'm like, oh, here we go.
And then it doesn't even cross my mind.
I feel like that could be a co-lab for Origin and Barnburner.
We should do like a Hawaiian shirt in the, you know,
the logos mixed in the Australian beer shirt.
Sure, you know, whatever it is, whatever it is, make it work, make it work for sure.
To the Pender Report, presentation of Village, Honda, the Honda Accord redesigned last year,
chosen by car and driver magazine as the number one mid-sized sedan.
One of the most reliable vehicles on the road is now even better than ever.
How could it be?
It is.
Don't ask, just don't, shush.
Superior ride quality, reliability, impressive fuel economy, all thanks to the EXL Hybrid.
You can take one out for a ride today at Village Honda,
your dealership for life.
They're located in the Northwest Automol and present.
Ryan Pinda, Ryan Pinder.
The Pinder Report.
So yes, last night, the Florida Panthers put themselves in a position where they were a year ago,
one win away from getting to the Stanley Cup final.
And because last year, they swept, but they didn't sweep.
Carolina, yeah.
It was a sweep, but it wasn't a sweep.
I forget how that worked.
It's hard to figure out, actually.
Rod the Baud.
3-2, the final, which is, it was one of the,
so how did it get to be through?
Because Sam Bennett hit the empty net.
Lafrenier did score with under a minute to go,
but that was all she wrote.
So there you see it.
The goals, four goals against the Florida Panthers,
as we've talked about,
and we don't need to keep going over and over again.
They just feel very, like they're very comfortable in these spots.
They've been very good in third periods.
They have been outscoring their opponents.
And in this series,
they've been outscoring the Rangers start to finish,
but certainly in the third period.
The Rangers, they're just not getting enough of anything.
They're not getting enough goals.
They're not getting enough shots.
This is the fourth straight one goal game.
They've won two of them, I suppose.
But they've reached 30 shots on net just once in the series.
There were a couple of games with 24.
Last night they got to 27,
but they have their backs against the wall.
But you know what?
remember back, I believe, was 1994.
That was a long time ago, right?
When I believe it was Easter conference final, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils,
Devils had a series lead, and Mark Messier, one of the greatest leaders of all time,
one of the greatest captains of all time, he says, we're going to win this thing.
Don't you worry.
We're winning game six, and then we're winning game seven.
We're doing it.
Well, I don't know if Chris Kreider is Mark Messier or not.
but Chris Cryder kind of did his,
had his best Messier-esque kind of a thing
last night post game.
And we do have it there, Jack.
There it comes.
How about this?
We will win Saturday night.
There's no doubt in my mind.
This team has what it takes.
We've faced adversity before,
and we know how to rise to the occasion.
I believe in every single one of my teammates,
and I know we'll get the job done.
I mean, look at him.
And if they don't, no one will remember.
No, it's like, didn't you say we were going to, uh,
fuck, whatever. Goalie should have made more saves.
Isn't that how it comes down to?
Friking goalie didn't do it.
But look at him.
He's in all intense.
Oh, yeah, wound up.
Or he's yawning.
He's like, oh, fuck.
So tired.
These Florida Panthers are just running us under the way.
I'm wearing me.
I'm tired.
Leave me alone for me.
Enough guys.
God damn.
Power play for the Rangers went 0 for 3.
They're one for 14 on the series.
Not good enough.
Their penalty kill, Red, has outperformed the power play.
They have two shorthand goals.
Which is great, but still an issue.
Issue.
Issue.
And Alexis, Alexi.
Alexa?
No, you can't use Google right now.
Yeah, don't do it.
Fourth goal of the series, he's got eight and 15 games.
Again, it was a goal in the final minute.
Didn't change the outcome of the game, but he continues to get it done.
And yeah, Criter and Zabandad were both O for going into the game.
Crider does get a goal and an assist.
Zabana Jed does get two helpers, but still, not enough.
And this is a big one.
I saw this this morning.
This has huge bearing, not only in what we've seen, but what we're about to see.
The Rangers have lost seven straight Eastern Conference final game fives,
dating back to 1986.
Wow, 86.
How about that?
They hate game five.
I don't even know why they played last night.
Don't bother.
Save your energy.
Yeah, just back her up.
We'll just stay in Florida.
You guys go up to MSG, play with, do a little inner squad, I guess.
Take the win and we'll meet you back down here.
How long is that flight?
That's an easy one, right?
Two, two and a half.
Oh, so easy.
It's not hard.
What's the Dallas, Tadminton?
Is that a tricky one?
Further.
Yeah.
Still not too sure.
Is there a time change now?
Yeah.
I think so.
Yeah, I think there would be.
Central, so.
So anyway.
Rangers and the Panthers, they will have, you're going to need to stave now for the Rangers.
They'll play tomorrow night down at the whatever it's called arena in sunrise.
Amaranth?
Yeah, something new.
Yeah.
And what it used to do, the BB, B and B and C, Barnburner, Blonde and BBC, something
or whatever it was down there.
It was something weird.
I'm trying to think when it opened what it was, but I can't recall.
When it opened, yeah.
Well, it's, it changes.
all the freaking time.
Tonight there's a hockey game
and it is
it's going to be a big one
down in Dallas.
Oilers, five and three on the road
stars four and five at home
because remember they went down
2002 to Vegas
in round one right?
And they had a home ice there. So yeah,
that hurts.
Yeah, not ideal.
Wild swing.
as we've talked about,
will Tanev play, will he not play?
We've kind of covered all of that.
On the Oilers side,
my guess is after all of those changes
that we saw going into the previous game,
probably a lot of them are going to stay the same,
just stay with that same lineup.
You don't change a winner, right?
Not usually.
It's a ballsy move by a coach if he does.
Yeah, don't change a winner.
Jamie Ben's been good.
He had eight points through the first two rounds.
He has seven points in the first four games.
He and McDavid,
locked.
And McDavid, it's funny.
I don't know,
if he's injured or what it is, but that game,
the Oilers is this huge comeback.
And really, they kind of did it without McDavid.
Three assists.
All right then.
Like, that's the other thing is we haven't seen a McDavid.
I'm going to take this thing.
You know what, though?
I think that we have,
well, he's missed some glorious.
I don't know.
And missed is probably not the right one.
Right?
Like, yeah, he's had some shots that against most
goaltenders are going to go in.
Yeah, there was the one.
The stick got in the way.
There was a save in overtime.
You could shot one kind of wide on the one hit the side of the net, which is a little
three or four that are usually counted.
Yeah, usually in there.
The cup final, as Dregs had kind of alluded to, it's set.
Doesn't matter who's playing in it.
They have got it figured out.
It will get underway next Saturday.
June the 8th.
If there's a game seven, it'll wrap up no later than June 24th, which is a Monday.
The cup.
Oh, just.
Yeah.
All of the games will start at 6 p.m. Mountain time.
We know that.
And looking at it, so there's game day off day, game day, then two days between,
then game day off day, game day, two days off.
Because they need to, you know, have their rest, I guess is what it comes down to.
Or building availability.
I'm not sure what it.
is. We have talked to, I guess, I don't know if we've ever had Cam Jansansans on the show over the years, but we've had Andy Strickland over the years.
The Cam and Strict podcast, guys based in St. Louis, great podcast. And recently, as recent as the last couple days, they had Flames Forward Blake Coleman on.
And Coleman talking about, you know, the season and life. And of course, as you're going to see here, he's talking about, I guess,
more or less, maybe is there some
a little disappointment
because you did sign that long-term deal
to be part of a contender, and it's
kind of not turned out that way. Here's Coleman.
It's tough for me. I just signed
a six-year deal. So
I wasn't expecting
guys to jump in advantage, especially
with how good we were at that first year.
We won the division
and whatever. We had a good team,
but, you know, I knew it was a possibility
with obviously the way Johnny had
signed throughout the year and I had heard just kind of rumblings, you know,
frustration with how things had been with his relationship, you know,
the summer before he wanted to extend and all these things. So I guess I knew it was the
possibility. I think I always hoped that how good of a team we were and that window was going
to be wide open for a while. I thought that would keep them around. And, you know,
I don't know if Johnny stays, I don't know that Chuckie left, you know, maybe I'm wrong,
but, you know, I'm good buddies with both those guys.
I have a ton of respect and love for those guys.
I wish they were still my teammates.
But at the end of the day,
I also forget that you got to do what's best for you and your family.
And that's what they.
Really bumbling around trying not to say anything.
Yeah, trying to kind of not tell the total truth there.
Maybe I don't know.
So I don't know that it's not breaking news,
but it's further, I guess, confirmation or whatever you want to call it.
But that Johnny wanted to sign.
and that they didn't get a deal done.
And then by the time they wanted to get a deal done,
Johnny didn't get a deal done and left,
which is tough to hear, I think, for fans,
even though I think we kind of knew that.
And it's not like I'm trying,
just right, you always throw the devil's advocate in.
It's just remember where everybody was the year prior.
You had to break up the core.
Monaghan, Goodrow, these guys couldn't win.
You needed more of something.
it was never, it was never just so easy that we can't lose Goodrow.
He's great.
We must keep him sign him.
I think there would have been some pushback from fans if you signed him to the big money long
term extension at that point, I think, but I don't know.
Do you, do you recall?
Because this is now, this is, we're really going back.
That's what three seasons ago because this is now the two seasons.
So I don't know.
Well, now you're losing me.
There's two years and numbers.
They should have signed them.
They should have given them.
But it's weird.
The shoveler and I were talking today.
Yeah.
Something came up in the news about 2022.
And it feels like a lifetime ago.
It's a couple years.
Yeah, I know.
There were people not, like when we came to Buffalo,
our kids team was not traveling to Canada to play
because you weren't allowed.
Yeah.
It feels like, so, you know, he's not bringing up COVID or this or that.
It was part of the decision.
Yeah.
And certainly it was part of the decision at the end.
And I think when you go back to, because I think what it is is Trillivings taking
some heat or there's a lot of finger pointing at at tree, especially.
And you know what it is right now?
I don't, you can't put the, the Adam Fox on, on him.
They drafted them.
They made a very good pick.
Right choice.
And he turned into a very good hockey player, but didn't want to be here.
And now watching Bennett, it's, oh, what do we get for Bennett?
Didn't do anything there.
And you gave up this.
That's what I looked at last night, though.
And I don't know if we're on the same paths of conversation, but watching Bennett play
the way he did, Monaghan resurrect himself a little bit.
Johnny's not played well, but you feel like he's lost his spark being stuck in a town that
doesn't give a shit and the team's no good and the cold like it doesn't feel like the the emotional
attachments there they went through a rebuild and that's why they had an opportunity and coleman
alluded to it a window that was supposed to stay open to have success to be playing in games this week
yeah right and they they they keep trying to say well we're not going to rebuild we're not going to
You did it.
It fell apart.
And I don't blame
your living or anyone for it.
It's just circumstantially,
globally,
all kinds of shit hit the fan
and all of a sudden that didn't work out.
Injuries.
But they did go through the rebuild process
and they were in a position to be good.
And I think it just speaks to that's the path.
Do it again.
Yeah.
Find your way to do it.
You want to fast track and all this shit.
Sure.
but you still have to rebuild it.
And it's,
there's no other way.
You can fast track it,
but you better be so good with every draft pick you have then.
And they better turn into all stars.
Like you have to have all star players.
Which team playing right now doesn't.
Yeah.
They,
you go back to the first round when they,
when they got Monaghan.
They had three firsts that year.
and Monahan was the one that turned out.
But then you go a little bit deeper and well,
Raspas Anderson was a pretty good poll.
And certainly Johnny was a pretty good poll.
And you can't control the Adam Fox.
No.
They just, you know what?
They just didn't win.
They just didn't win.
And then they left still in their prime.
Yeah.
That's right.
Like they hadn't won.
There are growing pains to doing this.
Monaghan gets injured.
Bennett's not playing that well for some reason.
Like you think back to Bennett,
we had no qualms about letting him go.
No.
I didn't.
I'm happy to see him playing well and doing good,
but he sure as hell wasn't playing like that.
No, not close.
He was lost.
He was a lost, confused.
He didn't know where to be.
It was hard to watch.
He was hard to watch him.
Contributing the way he is now.
So to think that we gave up on that guy,
no, we didn't.
It was a completely.
different player. Yeah. Completely different player. And you didn't have that level up, you didn't have
Barkov and Kachuk and the other guys to do the heavy lifting so that he could have a little bit of
space. He was very good in the playoffs, but the regular seasons were not great. And you said it,
I don't know, you've said it a number of times, but you go back to 2004 and it's, again, this feels
like old guys talking about it, but go back to, so, 04 cup final run.
In 0301, Calgary was not a hockey hotbed.
It was not where free agents wanted to be.
Eight years.
No one, I mean, the barn wasn't.
Save the flames.
Right.
But then all of a sudden, you have some success and you start winning.
And all of a sudden, the air is a little cleaner and the mountains feel a little bit closer.
And the city's a little more vibrant.
And this team's, yeah, this is pretty good.
they never had that kind of success,
not for the fans,
but just for the players to say,
I've got a good chance to win here,
as good a chances in a number of different places,
and I like it here,
and it was the flip side.
We didn't win.
We got bounced.
COVID.
I can't leave my house.
I don't have any ties.
My family's not from it.
It was just,
it stunk.
They just,
they needed to win.
It was flat.
They needed to win something.
Yeah.
to kind of counteract against all the stuff that was against them.
And it feels,
it kind of feels like you're maybe a long,
you're still a long ways away here as you watch these other guys.
They don't have a decor.
I mean, shit.
They don't have a decore.
Like actually,
I've heard lots about that Sam Dickinson.
And to me,
those are the two,
I don't know the other defensemen at all,
but I've heard enough about him.
I'm like,
they are in a position with a draft that doesn't seem to have,
a while from what I hear of variance from two to ten right?
Yeah, it seems scary.
You might have the second best pick at number nine.
You know what I mean?
Eight years out.
At the time it might not come across as the best pick, but maybe.
And especially if you spin in some forwards there in the top eight,
you might get the second, the first,
whatever, first second, third best defenseman out of the entire.
draft at nine.
Yeah.
And it does feel,
I think everybody would love Tej.
It's a great story,
but they probably would be better suited having a
Victor Headman.
Yes.
Miro Heskin-esque type of guy that can play 20 a night.
It is sleep and be a defender that maybe wins an or us or two or is up for it,
that sort of thing.
So anyway,
Blake Coleman.
Trade him.
Get him out of here.
Can't believe you bad mouth the team.
You don't want to be here?
Get the hell out.
Don't let Conroy hear that clip.
He'll have you out of here so fast.
I'm sure he's got a no move.
The Lady Bing has been awarded to Jacob Slavin.
I know you were disappointed
because you didn't win a Lady Bing, right?
Put in for it.
Yeah.
Is that all what you have to do is put in for it?
Yeah.
Just put in for it.
The player adjudged to have exhibited
the best type of sportsmanship
of gentlemanly conduct
combined with a high standard of playing ability
as selected by the professional
hockey writers association.
Winner for the second time
in his three years as a finalist.
He and Joe Mullen
are the two U.S.-born players
to win the Lady Bing multiple times.
Where to go.
Landslide winner over Elias Pedersen and Austin Matthews.
Oh, Pouty Pedersen.
Yeah, Pouty Pedersen.
Also very gentlemanly, very, very much gentleman.
The only Calgary,
one Calgary Flame received a vote.
Now, again, this is the
professional hockey writers association.
So you have to be a part of.
I think Ryan Pike is,
is part of that.
You've got,
anyway,
sports writers,
sports reporters.
One Calgary Flame was nominated,
received multiple votes,
but only one flame.
Who would you guess that might have been?
Because I kind of forgot about it.
It's not even right to put you on the spot because it's been Backland.
Backlund's kind of been that guy.
But now he's a bit of a,
he's a bit of a surly gen.
he's less gentlemanly now
in his old age.
Yeah,
Igor Sharon Govich.
Three third place votes,
two fourth place votes and four fifth
place votes.
That's how you go.
You go one, two, three, four, five.
So you put five players across the board.
Slavin,
81 first place votes.
So again,
landslide winner.
There were some other players,
and this is where it gets interesting,
that received first place votes.
So reporters in some market,
who's to say,
said that this guy out of everybody,
the most gentlemanly,
of the players,
Sean Monaghan,
first, Connor McDavid,
someone decided that Noah Cates
should win the Lady Bing,
and Jeremy Swayman,
goaltender of the Boston Bruins,
Swayman received no other votes,
no second, third, fourth, or fifth,
but did get one first place vote.
so the boys are drinking.
I guess.
Or just really shouldn't have a vote,
if you care about the Lady Bing, I suppose.
But sorry, that's Swabin.
It didn't turn out for him there.
Western Hockey League champion Moose Joe Warriors
take on Saginaw Spirit.
For the right to go to the Memcup final on Sunday
to take on the London Knights.
I kind of want to watch.
Do you?
I don't know why, but I do.
there's another game tonight
I'm probably going to
have more eyeballs
I would think than the M-Cup semi
but hard to say
you can get two screens going
would you get the Memorial Cup in Buffalo
probably not a
I don't think so no
sorry bud I'll be okay
I said I kind of want to watch I'm not going to drive up
to Canada to you're not a
get to a sports bar
get to a sports well
I mean what am I going to say
guess you don't want it bad enough.
I just don't want it bad enough.
You just don't want it bad enough.
Go ahead and win, Moose Jaw.
Yeah, let's go.
Calgary, you know what?
It's been a big, on one hand, we're talking about Calgary,
the Cavalry FC, the Calgary surge.
There's been a lot of, we got some new,
a lot of new, exciting things going on.
Add one more.
The city's Northern Super League team introduced yesterday,
the Calgary Wild FC unveiled in front of an audience of more than 100 dignitaries and youth soccer players at McMahon Stadium.
I like that.
The NSL, a women's professional soccer league, was launched this week.
Six teams, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, going to start competition in the spring of 2025.
The Wild FC will play out of McMahon Stadium, hope to have new turf installed at the facility before the
team begins play.
Can you just build a whole new facility place?
Yeah, you could, yeah.
So the turf is how much and a stadium is how much?
Hey, listen.
That's awesome.
I'll have fun trees.
That is awesome.
So there's the logo.
There's,
there's rational because you see there's a W in there.
And there's points,
like the three on the top of the W and then two.
There's a lot of,
there's things,
the owl is part of it.
You can go online and read about it.
was going to i could have done that but it's a little wordy and you know how i how i hate to ramble on
about things but uh awesome the northern super league i will say this sorry for interrupt women's
professional soccer anytime you put super in the name of yeah your league like there's the hs l and
yeah yeah yeah hockey super league yeah it's a bit cheesy i feel like if you're going to put super you
need to put doper.
Yes.
Because it kind of balances it out.
Go all the way with it if you're doing.
Right?
The Northern Super Dupor League.
Super.
How super?
Super duper.
Yeah, that'd be good.
There's some rules in place.
Round two of the RBC Canadian Open well underway at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
I don't know.
They never say, the.
It's Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Very fru-frou.
Robert McIntyre.
is currently leading the way.
He's at 10 under.
He's finished today's round.
Went 4 under today.
10 under for the tourney.
Andrew Novak, he is three strokes back.
As is McKenzie.
He is the Canadian.
Hughes Carding a 6 under today,
leaving him in a group,
Sean O'Hare, David Skins,
all at the 7 under mark.
Corey Connors, he is 4 under,
so 6 back.
uh and looking as far as Canadians and that's that's kind of it's a bit of a but there's some
of the guys that are just kind of getting their their rounds underway so there you go it is a
uh Robert McIntyre out in front again beautiful day near it is it is perfect for golf
I'm watching uh I've got it on here in the uh little room it does look beautiful
looks beautiful lawn chairs can you take spitz to the golf
They frown on it.
Yeah, they really do.
Yeah.
Especially when you're, when you're golfing and you're just firing them onto the green.
Yeah.
What are you doing?
What?
What about that red man dip where they're just big.
Frowned.
Yeah.
Also.
Yeah.
Also frowned upon for sure.
NBA final.
So Stanley Cup final, NBA finals.
So the NBA is good.
to stop before us.
Dude, get a load of this.
Okay.
So they are set.
Dallas eliminated Minnesota 124-103
game five yesterday to advance.
Mavericks take on the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics swept Indiana in the east.
The finals don't get going until June 6th.
That's next Thursday.
Say what?
Say what?
What you talk about, Willis?
June 6th, next Thursday.
The Celtics.
The politics wrapped up their sweep on Monday.
They got a week and a half before they get things going.
I'm not sure.
Not sure what it's all about.
I guess don't win in four or five games is the message,
because then you got to sit forever.
Hard to hang on to that momentum.
Yeah, is it TV?
Jack, I mean, you're a hooper and a dimer.
What's the details?
What's the haps?
Well, I don't know if there's a place.
that's hated as much in Boston as
Kyrie Irving. So I'm looking forward to that.
That fan base absolutely despises him.
I don't get the June 6th.
That's like a week away.
Yeah.
It would it be the same in the NHL?
Like they have the dates beforehand.
Well, they rolled them out yesterday.
And but at the same time,
we know that both of these series were going six at least when they
announced that.
So I feel like maybe should they have sent out a little email.
Hey, did you guys know?
I guess you wouldn't do this if you're doing an email.
Hey,
do you see both of the series are over?
What?
Yeah.
Well, I was out of town.
What, what the hell happened?
Well, Boston swept Indiana.
What?
Yeah, four straight.
And this Minnesota, Dallas thing, it was going to go six or seven, five.
Like, they're done.
Trouble is, we don't have them starting until next Thursday.
Well, I'm in Turks and Kikos till like Tuesday.
And then, you know, you get back.
You always want a day or two before you get started.
I don't want to go right back to work.
Just stick with it.
Yeah.
Is it Adam Silver?
Is that who it is?
Yeah.
Well, if he's going to Turks, I believe he, I believe he's, he better put on some sunscreen
because he looks like a guy that's shiny.
Very shiny.
He's going to have a hard time with those UV rays.
So anyway, that's our analysis.
Boston's second time in the finals in the last three seasons.
Dallas, first time since 2011, they were victorious that year over the Miami.
Heath. Shack. Was it Shack? I'm sure if it was. It might have been Chris Bosch. Uh, anyway,
I think D. Wade would have been there. I think it was LeBron's first year in Miami.
Oh, yeah. On the east when he took his, took his town. It took his town to South Beach.
Yeah. South Beach. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And who was the big tall galute with Dallas, the big,
uh, Dirk. Dirk Novitsky.
And now they got Luca Donchich.
Luca Donchich.
Yeah, the Irving thing is, they hate him, eh?
Like Boston, Boston is well known and they're good for hating people.
They hate, Kyrie Irving.
Hate him.
Went there, we're going to win.
Didn't win.
I'll never leave Boston.
I love it here.
I'm out.
And that's about all it takes.
And didn't he do it where he's like standing on the logo at, uh, yeah.
Yeah, he like, uh, stuff like that.
Before a game, I think.
He said, I'm going to stay in Boston.
Yeah.
I'm staying here.
Where am I going to go?
I love it here.
Still odd that, not odd, but this Boston's sports fan, what a plethora of opportunity.
There was nothing forever.
Red Sox hadn't won since the dawn of time.
The Bruins, all, they got rolled up by Edmonton in the, the,
80s.
80s.
That was it.
Celtics were junk
since bird.
The Patriots were no good.
And then if you were born at a,
if you were Jack's age and you were a Boston guy,
it's been just championships every,
every single year.
Not the Red Sox year.
Well, how about the Patriots?
Oh, did the Patriots lose to the Giants?
Well, I'm sure the Bruins won this year.
It's just stupid.
And of course, the Red Sox.
So see, Calgary, we can turn it around.
It can be done.
just be like Boston, I guess.
It would be the takeaway.
Because Stam Peters haven't won in a while, right?
Surge.
Surge, you got to get it going.
Yeah, they're 0.2.
Cavalry's got to get some wins going here.
Come on, Tommy.
Let's go.
Yeah, five.
Five draw.
And now the Wild, the Wild FC, starting in 2025.
Did we support the dogs down in?
I think you support the dogs.
Yeah.
I would.
I love the open.
Good ballpark.
Great ballpark down there.
I think that's what I've got for the Pinder report.
I'm interested here if Jack won his bets yesterday.
Are you?
Big glute from Dallas.
Well, and you know what?
He had overtime.
He was going to roll the dice looking for the fourth straight overtime.
And I wondered who maybe, maybe for Jackie Boy.
That's the Pinder Report of presentation of Village Honda.
They got the pre-owned vehicles.

Salons throughout the United States and Canada. It's the world's largest hair salon brand,
the official hair salon of the NHL. They're all locally owned and operated. They're all open
seven days a week. The key is the Great Clips Checkin app. You'll see the wait time. You'll be
able to find it. Where's my nearest location? Oh, there they are. There's a bunch of them. As we said,

You're in line. It's as though you're sitting right there in the salon without having to literally be there.
You can opt in for a ready next text alert by just checking the box. They'll give you the

It's the way to do it.
We got some questions coming in on the, on the email, the email inbox, great clips inbox
at flamesnation.ca.
And there's been some stuff that have been coming in here on the chat room, chat group, chat,
chat thing, chat, chat, chat, chat, chat.
Matt wants to know, will Tongue replace Savard or will it be an internal promotion
for GM Marie Edwards?
That's a tough question.
That's a question for maybe for Craig or Jerome or Murray.
Conroy was texting me just now.
Is he?
Was he?
The combines are down here.
I don't know.
I wonder about Tangay.
I brought it up when Sabard first left.
I know he was in the mix, but I don't know.
I don't know if he was in the mix for the head coach job.
Right.
Because I'm guessing that's where he's trying to get to.
Yeah.
He's already on the Detroit Redwings.
And you let.
I would think that Mr. Edwards doesn't.
doesn't give a damn who they hire.
Yeah.
As far as the power play person,
as long as they're competent.
And I would think that that being said,
that that means that Ryan Huska should be choosing
because that's who's going to work closest with them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think it makes sense for a lot of reasons because you like to have,
now the thing is,
Tangay,
he's buddies with Conroy and Jerome.
I don't know what his relationship is with Ryan Huska,
to your point.
So are you going to bring in your buddy?
Hey, we got you a power play guy.
Oh, I don't know.
Also, he wants to be head coach.
Yeah.
And he's just,
he's ready to help you carry boxes.
You need to need a hand?
Because I can get you,
if you ever need to get this stuff out of here in a hurry,
I can do it for you.
Comes in, he's got,
I'm just getting some measurements here.
Yeah, so I would get the cabinet right here.
Can I help?
Hey, Tangs, what are we doing?
doing nothing just sorry sorry sorry were you on the phone i i apologize i need a whiteboard here
i don't need to okay i don't think these thanks husk what are those the smart boards is that what they're
smart board yeah we wouldn't do whiteboards anymore be a smart part for sure uh what's the deal
with the road wins in these playoffs i know uh i mean florida's done very well in the road
we talked about the Oilers, whatever there.
I had it, not had it there.
I don't know.
Do you think that kind of puts into you?
I don't know. Has anyone done the research to say that it's that far ahead?
Like I know, again, it's only because it's the last reference point of success,
as far as Flames teams are concerned, we were better on the road than at home.
Yeah.
I don't know what history tells us about roadwinds.
versus home wins as far as playoff success.
You want to win all of them.
It means you're soft and you're tough.
That's what that means.
Yeah, I don't know.
I think it's part of it though.
Well, if we're going to throw in,
what do you even call it?
It's not being weak or soft or whatever.
It's just part of handling pressures.
I think it's, I think that,
the guys were better equipped to handle some pressure.
Internal fortitude.
Yeah.
Years ago, then maybe now.
There's less challenges potentially in life that people have to face when you're young.
We take a lot of those obstacles out of the way to make life nice and easy.
And then when we're not around to help take away those obstacles, oh, darn it.
Seems like a lot.
Life's hard.
Yeah, it can be.
It really can be.
We go to the inbox now by way of email.
This is from, oh.
You don't have to read it.
Well, no, it's, you know what?
I was very happy.
He's like, okay, Shannon has sent an email.
It's looking at it.
It's from Shan.
I read it now.
Shan, Shan, the Oilers fan.
Oh, whatever.
No!
Longtime fan from your radio days,
huge fan of the show,
even bigger fan of Pind
Pinder's army, the oversized backpack.
Can't wait for Pinder to completely lose his S
when dry sidel signs his extension.
Get to it, Shannon.
Made some Texas chili for the first time a few weeks ago
based on an award-winning recipe.
For those that don't know, Texas chili
is for the most part all meat,
chunks of brisket,
little to no tomatoes, no beans.
I couldn't have been more disappointed
with the Texas
chili.
This is not an Oilers
Dallas fan thing.
My other
many beans
chili con carne
recipe that I've been
using for years
vastly superior.
Jens,
what are your thoughts
on Texas chili?
What are your
favorite types of chili?
Keep up your
fantastic oiler hating
Elias Pedersen
ranting ways.
Can't get enough.
I'm going to have
a hard time
poking holes in any chili.
And typically
I'd be less beans
happy.
Yeah, I, uh, I feel like chili is the one thing.
There's, there's really, there's no recipe.
What's your recipe?
You just kind of throw some shit in the pot.
It's almost one of those things.
When you have some thing, I got too much in the fridge.
Oh, do you put celery in your, uh, chili?
Not usually, but it was there and I, see that, you'd that to throw it out.
Oh, you got corn in it.
I don't know, you put, sometimes there's corn.
Sometimes there's no corn.
It's a lot of beans.
Yeah, I had some extra beans.
This time no beans.
I don't know.
I've not done the Texas chili, though.
I wouldn't say, but that's my point.
And your point with most chilies is that I'm not a Texas or a Californian or an
Albertan chili recipe follower.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm a, I'm going to brown the meat.
Okay.
What else?
Yeah, that could go in there.
That sounds chili-ish.
And I'm starving.
I haven't eaten since Monday.
Friday today.
Monday.
What are you doing?
I hadn't, well, Tuesday did the,
I don't typically eat breakfast anyway.
And then I did the show and then I was,
it was a travel day, remember?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then I'm like, I'm going to do it 24 hour fast.
Good for you.
How'd that work out?
What's my, now it's Friday.
Still going.
Huh.
Now they don't,
uh,
recommend that necessarily, right?
They don't not recommend it.
Very pinned a review.
There are two wins away from being eliminated.
They're also two ends away from being a Stanley Cup final.
So whatever.
From Mac Davis.
So hard to be humble.
Question for Rhett.
What was the name of the Donair place you were mentioning earlier this week?
I wouldn't describe it as a Donair place, but it's delicious.
Beirut.
Okay. It's kind of spiller road.
Like B-A-Y-R-O-O-T?
B-E-E-I-R-U-U-B-E-I-R-U-B-E-R-U-A-R-R-U-A-R-R-U-B-E-R-A-R-R-E-A-R-E-A-R-E-E-A-R-S-E-E-E-E-O-S-E-E-E-O-F-E-E-E-O. Yeah.
Those are my two favorites. Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, I'm not too familiar with that stuff.
You'd love it.
I enjoy it and I'll eat it when someone brings it to me,
but I'm not right in the going out and finding it
or where to find the best part of it.
Yeah, Beirut is because it's in my part of town.
It's, yeah, Beirut street food.
There you go. Do it.
All right.
Do it.
Do it.
Quality.
Do it, do it, do it.
And if you get the garlic sauce and take it home and dip fries in there,
you're going to love it.
And then you're going to breathe hellfire for 24.
Dab, dab, dab, dab.
Yeah.
What did you say?
Yeah, nothing, babe, nothing.
Yeah.
Mickey's charming.
Chili and pizza, not really any bad versions of both.
Yeah, I guess so.
It's true.
People kind of get, I don't need, like,
chicken eat pizza.
You know, sometimes you go where people bring in,
where they bring in pizzas.
Oh, what have we got?
Who went on, who wrote down to get two of these types of pizzas if you're ordering for a group?
Why?
You know what, though?
I'm with you.
I have my favorites.
And then I'll eat a piece and I may not like it.
But there's times where I'll eat a piece of pizza that I wouldn't order and be like,
okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's pizza.
It's good.
Yeah.
Jack, are you, are you like responding to people in the chat?
Is that what's happening?
You're having a conversation with people?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I do all the time.
There's a good donner in Silverado.
It's honestly, yeah, in the South.
This is you, apparently.
I've had Chipotle three days in a row might make it four.
Should I change it up and get a doner?
So are you sending it a question for us to answer?
No, I was talking to the chat, but maybe you guys can answer it.
Have you been to the new Chipotle boom in the South?
I haven't.
I was going to go like last weekend, I think it was, but it wasn't open yet.
Yeah, it opened on two.
It opened on Tuesday.
I've had it three times and it's a gong show every single time.
I bet.
But it's good.
Is the hype, is it worth it or is it?
Because it's one of those things, boom, you're going to have it.
You'll like it.
But it's the first time I had it.
Iggy loves it.
We're in Minneapolis.
It's F all.
to do there. Let's go to Chipotle.
And the first time I went and I was, I was actually,
this is why I was still playing obviously. I'm like,
this is, it's typical American cuisine to me.
Lots.
Yeah.
Because it's a massive burrito.
Yeah. And I was like, okay, it's a big burrito.
But I have learned with the right order,
I've, I've, I've, I've, I've had it sent to the house.
So what, what's your, uh, what's your go to, Jack?
I get the, I've tried the steak burrito, the beef burrito, and then they do these, the burrito bowls are what are really popular.
So it's not like, it's not like an actual burrito.
It's just like the bowl with the meat, the cheese, the sauce.
Get the fajitas and you get it.
It's a nice time.
I'll try that next.
So I don't know.
I've just, I've just been trying everything.
I don't really have a go to yet.
Good for you, Jack.
Don't get a pigeonholed.
Jimmy's, uh, A and A is the other place in Calgary.
Not aging.
Jimmy's.
A lot of free plugs today.
Chipotle,
it might turn this thing
into a thriving business base
and how much we've been talking about them.
Now,
do you have a kind of an idea
of what you get with Chipotle?
Because if I went out,
I'd be like, I have no,
I've never been in it.
Barbacoa and a carnita,
double meat,
always double meat.
Okay.
Gwok, sour cream,
cheese, veggies,
and the hot salsa.
Now, I'm starving.
You're going to love it.
So is,
now,
if Shepotley's listening,
just kind of earmuffs,
I guess.
Is it really that much different
than your,
uh,
who,
what,
Mongo burrito or,
yeah,
the other places,
convenience thing because you just can,
go,
is that what it is?
Yeah.
So Jack,
do you go to like,
uh,
Mongo burrito or whatever these other places are,
ordinarily?
And now you're trying this or is,
are you buying into the hype?
I'm just buying into the hype.
Yeah.
I'm not a huge burrito person,
but.
My girlfriend was negative.
Like it's huge in the U.S.
That's the thing.
Yeah.
And so it was opening and we're like,
okay, we got to try it.
And then I've enjoyed it.
And it's right by,
I go to the gym over in Seton and then on my way out,
I stop at Chipotle.
Squawks and bench.
Can I get the extra sour cream, please?
Yeah.
That'd be great.
This one's from Joel.
Brett.
Do you think the Dallas Stars will win?
pretty straightforward.
Do I think or do I want?
Think sure.
Yes.
Yes.
It's not very convincing at all.
How can you have a say?
The only team that plays with any consistency at this point for me is Florida.
How do you watch the last two games in Edmonton go?
Yeah, the stars are positioned to do well tomorrow.
Wednesday, Jack, Noodles, and I think you all,
kind of said oilers, right?
And you were all right.
You were all correct.
Maybe I'll text noodles.
Jack, what's your,
uh, is it in the Betway Betts?
No, it's not.
I'm not.
Okay.
So, I'm on Dallas.
They got, I think they,
I think they bounce back here.
What does that sound?
I don't hear any.
You know, it sounds like a cell phone interference.
Do you hear that, right?
But I have my,
you always give me shit because I don't,
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, now I hear.
Now it's gone.
And that's back.
My phone.
It's my phone.
I would hear that all the time when you're at the radio station.
This goes back years and years, like doing music radio.
You'd hear the cell interference.
Who?
I'm texting noodles here.
I don't know who you is winning tonight because you're always right.
and we need it for the
and we need it for our betting.
Yeah, something like that.
All right, well,
Chipotle,
Mongo, Burrito, whatever it is.
Do it.
Donairs.
That's still being a lot of talk
about food on the show.
Pender's not here to derail it,
so there you go.
Let's say that does it
for the great clips inbox today.
You can get your emails in.
It's very easy to do.
Great Clips inbox at Flames
dot CA. That's the email address. Fire it in. We do it every Friday. Or of course, if you're on the show and you're watching along live, you can get into the chat and do it that way.

great clips.com great clips. It's going to be great. It's going to be great. It's not great yet.
I think it's great now. It's not what they're leading. It's going to be great. Well, I can say this.
The last haircut my kid got was not great. Lines going in different directions and up and down and
sideways. Not ideal. Yeah, I had a bad one the other day. I don't want to talk about it. It's not
important. But I shouldn't let your kid do it.
I should, maybe should have let my kid do it, but, um, or maybe you should go.
Yeah, I should.
It's stupid.
Yeah, you're right.
Uh, we have a noodles update.
I asked him.
I said, we're doing the show.
We need to know who you think is winning tonight because you're always right.
He replied, ha, ha.
And then I think rationale thinks that Dallas is going to win, but I feel like Ed.
might buck the trend and win tonight.
Skinner needs to steal them a game.
I responded with,
you son of a bitch,
he says, I have zero logic behind it.
So there's got.
That's our insiders.
Every Wednesday, Jamie McClennan,
our hockey insider joins us on the show.
Yeah, I don't know.
To your point, to the original point.
If you pick a team,
it's a pure guess.
Yeah, they might be up by two,
three minutes in, five minutes.
I was totally right.
I was totally wrong.
And then it'll swing
and you could be totally right and wrong again
within the next 15, 20 minutes.
So yeah, it's,
what it is is it's must watch.
It's not been dull or boring.
Although the last game was kind of boring
because as soon as they,
as soon as they made a freaking 2-1-2-2,
it was over.
Yeah, you're kind of, hmm.
Come on, Pete DeBoer.
Get a hold of your guys.
You're this big whoop-dy-do coach.
Come on.
He just wants to get to game seven like Pinder said.
Just get the game seven because I don't lose in game seven.
I don't lose in game seven.
How does he do in game six?
Shit.
It might not be ideal.
Might not be ideal.
Jack.
What's going on this weekend?
Not much.
I'll probably watch the game tonight.
Hang around the house.
Do some laundry.
Some switch.
Some switch.
I'm getting old.
You're talking.
to the wrong crowd.
Yeah, because you're
how old now?
You're really talking to the wrong crowd.
No, I don't know.
Because you're getting up there.
You're 20.
Yeah, like a year or two ago,
the boys are going out on the weekends
and now everyone's got girlfriends
and we're stuck at home.
Go out together.
Yeah.
Yeah, you could do that.
Yeah, you could take him to Chipotle.
Yeah.
The little date night at Chipotle.
Because we'll talk to you again on Monday,
I assume.
What's the over under on
Chipotle runs between now and Monday 10.15 a.m.
One and a half for sure.
Like I, I'm going today for sure.
Okay.
So get to what I told you.
Don't be lazy.
Okay, so I'm going to write this down.
Today for sure.
You can do both today because you can get lunch.
You go to where my spot for lunch.
You get the mixed meat, either the platter or the wrap.
Is that the other place?
The don't air?
The Bay route.
Okay.
It's not far from you guys.
Okay.
And then you do the, you do the, uh, chepotelite later.
And what are you doing?
So it's barbacoa.
Yeah, the barcawa.
Is that what you said, Warner?
Yep.
But I do barbacoa with and carnita.
And carnita.
Double meat.
Meatour cream.
Guac.
Gwak.
No beans.
No beans.
Veggie.
Uh, uh, uh, the heat of veggies.
Okay.
I say cheese and the hot salsa.
Veg, hot salsa.
No, no, uh, no beans.
All right.
Well, hey.
Appreciate that.
Appreciate that a lot.
I should do the Betway Bats.
Hey?
I should probably do the Betway Bets.
Let's do it.
Jack, you've had a good week.
I appreciate you doing it.
I appreciate you stepping up.
And I think you're probably up for the week, eh?
Yeah, I think so
You freaking, Rhett was asking about that
Luca first basket.
He got the second basket.
They lost the tip off.
Edwards bricked and Towns was all over it,
put it back in.
And then he went down and shot a jump shot
the next possession.
There you go.
So we came up short and we came up short on the over.
So does he take the tip off?
No, this guy named Gaffert takes the tip off.
Because I was going to say,
you'd be better off taking.
taking that bet, then maybe the first points.
But anyway, did you want to do the Betway Betts retro or?
Yeah.
No way.
Betway, our buddy's at Betway.
You're going to get a free bet up to $200 if your first bet lose.
Now here's the thing.
If you've not yet done it, create a new account, then go and scan the QR code that's on
your screen.
And if you're listening to this on the audio portion, you're going to be able to go
and find it on the YouTube feed.
All right.
Redeem your bonus.
Place your bet.
No minimum amount required.
If the bet loses, you'll get a refund back up to $200.
You can then go back in and use that.
It's like credits to use again on your favorite sports.
This offer is only available outside of Ontario.
So there you go.
We'll QR code there.
What do you got, Jackie Boy?
We finally get the anticipated pirates at Toronto,
Pittsburgh 26 and 30, Toronto 26 and 29.
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to take battle of complete.
average teams.
Toronto's won three in a row.
They are not going to win four in a row.
Pirates Money Line.
And then two good pitchers on the mound.
Falter and Braos for Toronto will take the under seven and a half runs.
And if Vogel bog and Telez are in the lineup,
I was looking before I came on here.
Yeah.
Tease that down to like four and a half because those guys don't hit shit.
170 and 169.
Get tease that under to like four and a half.
You're a big fan.
Yes.
Yeah, big fan of that.
So there you go.
I didn't think we'd have Pirates Js on the show today.
I might have to go to one of those games on Sunday, maybe.
Well, sure.
I guess so if that's what you want to do.
Get the Betway bet.
Get that Betway app on your phone.
There's your free bet.
All you got to do is hit that QR code.
You create the new account.
Go with the QR code.
And it's, I mean, that's like a,
hey, welcome to the, welcome to Betway.
Here's a little welcoming gift for you.
Not too shabby.
Only available outside of Ontario.
So now you might go to a Blue J game.
It's on it.
Sounds like a hell of a Sunday,
doesn't it?
Because does the roof still close in that place?
If the weather's not good,
they can still close that thing, don't they?
Yes.
So I don't think they open it very often, do they?
Yeah.
Um,
yeah,
well,
I mean,
go,
go ahead for sure.
Okay,
thanks.
So now,
you've been fasting since Monday.
You've not eaten since Monday.
I feel like you're going to give in here.
You're going to eat something.
What's it going to be?
I'm not eating until tomorrow.
And I don't know what I'll have.
Honestly, once you get to a certain port and everyone says the same thing,
it's like, don't eat it.
Don't eat it.
I think is you guys like us, we like it, though.
We like to bear it and we really like to eat it.
I like it habitually.
I like the flavor.
Yeah.
I like the.
social aspect of it.
