Starting point is 00:00:02 Oh, good morning, buddies. Welcome to the Friday edition of Barn Burner, Boomer, Pinder, and the other guy. And sadly, I don't have the, I don't have the thing. What do you mean the thing? You can see the comments? I can see the comment. Exactly. Friday is Hawaiian shirt day.
Starting point is 00:00:22 So, you know, if you'd like to, wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans. You like. Sorry, I forgot something. I just got to grab. the hell is he doing this? He's in his Rolls Royce with his driver's driving him around. Are you in the back seat? Do you this?
Starting point is 00:00:39 Driver? Driver, pull over here. I don't care. Pull over. I have a very, very important show to do. It's hard to get good help, man. It's hard to get good help.
Starting point is 00:00:51 It looks like you're right across the street from us. I am. Are those the apartments we look at out of the window? I'm in the back of the Bentley. And if this ass hat would pull over, I'd be able to start the show. How are we doing, man? How are we doing?
Starting point is 00:01:06 Well, it's been an eventful 24 hours around here. I think Rhett cracked a beer about 24 and a half hours ago. And we had an afterburner here last night. The Wolverines here. We had people, I've drunken studio audiences. It's, it's been a lot. How did yesterday go post show? Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Mine would, I had a great day, great day. Yeah. I watched some hockey. I'm a little disheartened to hear that my good pals didn't call me and invite me down for some more. But, yeah. I thought you'd had enough to be fair. And then Jack in the middle somehow,
Starting point is 00:01:39 he and the Wolverine went out for beers. And he, he isn't, well, I mean, he's been a Marklew for a while. Let's say that. I'm telling you what, that couch, it's a game changer in there. Still hell off my couch, Jack. I've seen that couch take down a man or two over time.
Starting point is 00:01:57 It'll do it to you if you're not careful. I got here at eight. And it's like, blinds are wide open. It's kind of starting to get a little light. He's caoed on the couch. I'm like, all right,
Starting point is 00:02:07 Jack, it's eight. I'm going to give you until 845. I dropped the blinds. He's right back. Okay, now at 845, we've got to get to work.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Yeah, that's good. I like that. I love it. It's Barberder. It's a presentation of Bet365, the world's biggest and best. I'm going to throw it in there.
Starting point is 00:02:24 That's not there. That's me. The largest and best sports betting platform. Open an account with Bet365 today. A huge range of marketing. Download the app. Use the promo code nation when you shine up. We're going to do some picks later, too, by the way.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Yes. Big weekend. Oh, red, how's the, I'll finish the read first. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365. And of course, throughout the prog, the show, you got the super chat on the side there. We'll be able to see it. You put in a little donation or a big one. It guarantees you get your comment on the show and we'll get that money over to the youth centers of Calgary.
Starting point is 00:02:58 So, yes, the big football weekend. How is the sphincter? They're retro. The stress monitor. I got the, oh, he's got a low. Low stress,
Starting point is 00:03:10 Dean. We're a confident group. It's not going to be easy, but we believe in our boys. Yeah. Okay. It's a great matchup, but I don't feel like
Starting point is 00:03:20 there's impending doom. There are seasons where it feels that they're just going to build this thing away, right? That's a good point. Yeah. The beauty of the beauty of the, The beauty of the bills is the fact that that's when they do their best work. Their best bills are.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Yeah, their best bills is when they lull you into thinking they're not going to bills you? When you least expect it. Yeah. Like the Chargers is the same. They share. We got this now. We're a seasoned group. We're ready.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Look at us. Look at us. So what is this off the top of your head? Because I don't have what. What are the games tomorrow and what are two tomorrow, two Sunday? Is that what we're doing? Sunday night is bills. Kansas City and Detroit.
Starting point is 00:04:00 The two teams of buys host the Saturday games. And then Sunday, Rams at Philly, Buffalo host Baltimore. Oh, boy. Yeah. And of course, it's Washington and Detroit and Houston and Kansas City. I didn't mention the out visiting teams. Nice. Teams off buys will play Saturday.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Everyone else play the other two high seats play Sunday. How would we rank in order of excitement or at least expectation of good football? Bills and Ravens has to be number one. the line would reflect that as well. These are two powerhouse clubs playing really good football right now. So I think that's got everyone's attention. And then there's a compelling case to be made for the others. I've been watching Dan Orlovsky and some other football nerds that I enjoy watching.
Starting point is 00:04:43 And they're kind of hyping up the Rams. That defense is legit. Stafford's done it before. They've really turned what was a group that traded all the picks away into a good young team very quickly. Yeah, there's, I mean, there's potential, I think, for that Texans, Chiefs one? I think it's going to be closer. I hope and I don't trust the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I worry that they continue to win. Yeah, my fear is you give Andy Reid two weeks. He's going to just out game plan and the Texans could get the doors going off. They haven't been that good this year. My life will change real quick if the Chiefs lose on Saturday. Yeah, you'll be broken up about it. Sunday night. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Behind that. Yeah. Because I believe that we might have to have a team road trip. Oh, team roadie. Can you imagine? Wow. Can you imagine?
Starting point is 00:05:34 Bill's Houston. Well, in fairness, there is a team road trip happening next weekend. That is right. You're, uh, Oh, you guys are already on a road trip. That's right. That's too bad.
Starting point is 00:05:45 My, aFC championship, you're going to, you're going to save it. Super Bowl. No, the Super Bowl's too expensive. I can have to shoot.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Can they add a round in the middle for us? Plus, I want to be in the bill. Yeah. well there is some business we should probably get to we'll go to our opening statements a presentation of mccloud law is it personal injury is it divorce maybe it's marriage is it love is it heartbreak is it good or bad whatever you need legal assistance or help with there's only one place only one number to call I don't really have that number I guess I go to the website People don't go to the numbers anymore. They just say, phone, do this for me. There's only one number to call.
Starting point is 00:06:27 That number. Without dashlaw.com. They're the best. They are the very best. And they're here in Calgary, serving Calgarians, which is why we love them. And they're the best of what they do. So that is also very good. There was a lot of optimism yesterday with Dustin Wolf going into the net that,
Starting point is 00:06:49 all right, this is going to be. Hey, they're not tired anymore. It's going to be a different outcome. They've had a day to sit around and do nothing. They've got the better goalie in. Playing against the backup for the other team. Oh, yeah. Joel over.
Starting point is 00:07:02 We're not tired tonight, boys. You're going to get our bad. Yeah, 4-1. Blues sweep the home and home home. It's not their fault. It's not their fault. It's not their fault. Really?
Starting point is 00:07:16 You go spend 48 hours or 72 hours in stupid St. Louis. and throw up with some excitement. Okay. They had Connie on at the first intermission because, of course, he's a former blue, so I'm sure Leslie's like, hey, you used to play here. Why don't you come on? And of course, it's after what are the worst periods
Starting point is 00:07:36 you've seen from the team? Right up there. Like this year. And he didn't mince words. I liked it rather than the, you know, we can turn it around. It was like, no, no, there's just not a lot of compete. There's one team that wants to win 50-50 battles.
Starting point is 00:07:49 There's one that doesn't. I talked to someone from the organization. organization yesterday that said they were staying out in a different area. So it's going to be way better. I'm like, every city you go to has good restaurants. There's not a city on the docket that you can't get to a good restaurant. And you have 48 hours to take that taxi.
Starting point is 00:08:11 There's a really good steakhouse or an Italian place. If we could go have some pasta. Oh, really. Yeah. That sounds like every. relatively major metropolis anywhere. Yeah, 4-1. And they were better in a second, but it's just too late.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Yeah, that felt similar to years past where it's like, oh, we forgot to show up, we're down, but guess what? We're not going to quit. We're going to, we've tried more or harder. But if you're, it's three, you're just like, what do we, what are we joked about with the four goals? Like, you allow three in the first. It's like, okay.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Well, when do we, what, when do we play next? because it just felt over, didn't it? Well, lucky for them, they play again Saturday in Winnipeg, which, I mean, that's happened. We will have a, we've got boots on the ground in Winnipeg coming up in a few minutes. We'll get the lay of the land in River City. Do we have the opening goal? I don't want to put Jack in the spot. There wasn't a lot of communique before we started the show.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Yeah, we should have it from the show that we had. And again, it's putting Jack in the spot for the goal. But, Rhett, here's what I'd like to do. Could we? Can we do some warner whiteboard work here on this first goal? Could you walk us through this? So there's, just to set it up, there's your 2D. Fishing.
Starting point is 00:09:31 See, we call that test and cakes, Dean. Jack, can you pull it back to the start and I'll get out of the way and just let Red start? So there we go. What do we see, right? It's handy and we use the pair. Go ahead. Yeah. Well, I'm just seeing.
Starting point is 00:09:41 We call that, they're testing cakes, you know, when you put the muffins or the cakes, you got to have the toothpicks. With the toothpick? Yeah. That's the testing. the cake. I don't really commit to this. Do you test it out? Put it back in. Let it cook some more.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I don't want to touch anyone. Oh, hey. Oh. Oh. Wolf spinning like a top trying to figure out where these dummies are going to put this pot. What of fucking circus that was? Like, you got it? I got it. No, got it. No.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Oh, me. Okay. No. Well, at least now we got it. Oh, dear. Like, each of them had it for it. You, okay, so you've got it. Oh, you don't. Well, now I've got it. it no now you they're defensive specialists runny's running weger hand like what the
Starting point is 00:10:27 and like weger's got it there yeah we just much we did the uh the the the the the runy deep dive last night after burner my gould was uh the data is getting ridiculously horrendous for the fourth line and specifically kevin runy the last time he was on the ice for a goal four was December 10th. And that's fine. He's not paid to score. But he's been on the ice for goals against and all but like two of the games since then. And many, it's been three goals, two goals, two goals. Like he is absolutely playing himself to the fringes of this roster. And Rory Kerenz could play center. And in the third period, he came in and center the fourth line. Rundog had what, one shift. He had 542. Like, it might be the end of the healthy run in terms
Starting point is 00:11:13 of play. Like, it might be time to have him sit and watch. The fourth line's been getting caved in right now. And when a team can't score four, you can't have your fourth line getting scored on. Yeah. Your job is to go not get scored on. Hit some people and don't get scored on. Well, that one was just bad luck. He had his guy. No, he was in great
Starting point is 00:11:30 shape. He was awesome. Yeah. Could I just say this? We've worked together a long time. That's the first time I've heard the test and cakes. Really? Like a lot. You're just, no, no, no, no. No, no, a little more. Yeah, leave it for a little more. do we have the second goal jack um this is less less analysis i think on the uh
Starting point is 00:11:51 the water yeah so so this is it's one nothing we're still in the first period even strength puck along the wall good shape ball is in a he's getting corks screwed right into the ice they're testing cakes there you we could definitely stay on his wing the defense wasn't great But, like Pospis, first it's ball, because he carried it back into his zone and then it was three on one. I give the Blues credit. They've forechecked hard here. But Pospicil here, he's testing cakes bad there. Pospicil, or Huberto kind of gets picked there a little bit, but still.
Starting point is 00:12:29 He's a wrong wing. He should. He's trying to cover because Pospicil looks like an idea. They're chasing. And look, here's the thing. It shouldn't go in. What is Pospisle doing right there? That's, it's horrendous.
Starting point is 00:12:41 That's, where are you going? What are you doing? that's 48 hours in St. Louis and I'm not joking. And then. Jack, after 48 hours of Myrtle Loop. There's just not a tip or a stick or a screen. He rips it, but come on. That's got to be stopped.
Starting point is 00:12:57 And I think Wolf would be the first to say that. I got to stop that one. He's 99. Nine. Yeah. Nine. Nine. He's got 10 bolts.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Like, Prank looks kind of become a defensive specialist. But he's in the parking lot. Yeah, it should be stopped. And there's no screen, right? It's clear. It beats him clean from well out. So that's not ideal. So that makes it two to nothing.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And then under two minutes or whatever it is, two and a half, two four. Those must win games. See, they were stressed out. Too much, they got to learn how to play with pressure. It's rats fault. They must have been, yeah. They must have been listening to you because you threw out the must win game and then they crumbled, crumple. Crumple.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Crumple. Yeah. Crumple? Yeah. So now the Blues are one back. Flames do hold two games in hand, but it would be really tough. I said it last night at Afterburner. If you just took someone that hadn't watched this NHL season but knows hockey, you're
Starting point is 00:13:55 going to watch a two game set between these teams. Now tell me which one could make the playoffs if there's only one can get in. Like they just, maybe it's a matchup thing with the Blues because the Blues have had their number, but one of them looks like a big boy can sneak in and be a wild card team. The other does not. It's just two games, but it was, they only scored two. They were flat as hell in both matches. They were terrible.
Starting point is 00:14:16 For them, it's all about emotion and effort. I guess the one thing that stood out in my mind or the question I started to ask was, they've played pretty hard all year, and that's great. Is there elevation to their game when needed? Do you know what I mean? Like, can I, maybe they can't. I think they're kind of most of the season. They played close to their capacity.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Exactly. I was texting one NHL person and he's like, give the flames a lot of credit. They've pretty much played. They've maxed out to their ceiling all year. And his thought was you just, most teams can't do that for a full season because you're going to get some bad luck. And it's just human nature. It's not easy to play hard all 82 or you'd see it all the time.
Starting point is 00:14:54 And it's not good enough anyway because they're not there. And if you can't elevate your game anymore when you need to, what would a playoff run look like? And this is kind of why I still think a top 10 picks not out of the question. But then again, we've written this team off after bad stretches and then they'll go beat a good team. like win in Winnipeg where they'll play twice in their next four games. They got a game in Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:15:17 We'll see. The road hasn't been good for this group. It really hasn't. And they're going to stretch a six to seven away from the dome. Yeah, these were two sobering games for sure. Because they had started to turn around at what, four or five? They'd won on the road. Wolf was really starting to separate and play well.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And this is a team. I don't know if you really even looked at them. It was very much on Vancouver or looking up. And now that gap is basically gone. And they were better in the second period to their credit. But over six periods of play, they were outplayed and obviously outscored. So it does not give you warm fuzzies about Winnipeg or Minnesota coming up here. No.
Starting point is 00:15:56 If you told me your two games in hand were Minnesota twice on the road or maybe one of them or Winnipeg, like, yeah. I like the blues. If I had to pick a horse right and I'm picking the blues over the flames from now to the end. they did kind of have that feel. You kind of watch because they were, especially that first period. They came out of the gate strong. And you think, so this is how upsets happen.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Like you say, if this is a team that gets in, can Bennington get hot? You've got Peraco and Fowler there on the back end. Now they've got Big D, they're big up front. They can find a way. So as they can be a tough out, but. They don't strike fear in you. But they need a lot to go right.
Starting point is 00:16:37 They need a lot to go their way. You know what it would be? You'd need a team like Winnipeg to get inside their own head and all twist it around because it's playoff time. That's the upset. Get someone that's in their own kitchen. Hmm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Kind of bummer, boys. Not entirely out of left field either, though, was it? I guess not. Because we looked at the month ahead in terms of the fall into the bottom 10 or hang into a playoff. I think we'd win a peg, loss, Minnesota, loss, Winnipeg, loss, the LA thing, you'll try and get a split there.
Starting point is 00:17:15 And I guess they have, depending on what happens with that other game. I don't know that we chalked up two losses here. Zero points. I don't know that we saw that coming. Agreed. I think the two points you got against L.A. or probably you thought you'd get two out of four in St. Louis. But again, I mean, that's just the napkin points. That doesn't mean anything. Yeah. And again, it's not like they haven't beaten good teams. year. And again, it's not like it's all bad. No, absolutely not. Give Connie clarity of the deadline. Please, that's all we ask here. Not unlike last year, give the GM and everyone else is involved in the decision making the owner, the big group of brass that Connie leans on. Like, give them all a clear indication that either A, you can be good enough or B, you're clearly not good enough. The mucky middle is what's going to kill this group and it's going to only lengthen and prolong a retool or a rebuild or whatever reword. You want to use. Like, that's just a fact. If you sit on your hands and don't, you know, have a target of
Starting point is 00:18:14 when you're going to be good because you might be okay now, it just delays what you're going to have to do down the road anyway. You want you, you need some, what, clonity, but that some conny clarity. If we have clon, conne finence, clonet, clonidant. I'm not sure. Gregory. Craigity. Oh, no. Yeah. That's going to take some work, men. Yeah, we'll workshop it. We'll workshop it. Yeah. After it. Yeah. we'll get after it. But we can head to the insider hotline. This is,
Starting point is 00:18:45 you know, this is going to be a fun one because we got a little bit of on location. We were talking about Winnipeg, the next opponent, nothing like having boots on the ground in Winnipeg. This is going to be fantastic. The insider hotline of presentation of Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating,
Starting point is 00:18:56 your crystal clear choice for all residential plumbing, heating and cooling services. If you're a barn burner customer and you need a hot water heater, AC or furnace, you'll get discounts and upgrades up to $1,000 in value. Crystal Waters, plumbing and heating, 403-219, 4100,
Starting point is 00:19:13 or online crystal clearcadry.com. Our next guest, probably a little disappointed to be where he is. It's never super fun being in Winnipeg, but the best thing about being in Winnipeg is getting to leave Winnipeg and poor Darren, TSN Hockey Insider, has not been able to leave Winnipeg yet. No, no.
Starting point is 00:19:34 And look, I was feeling a little tough. granted that I'm stranded here at the Delta, Winnipeg. But now I'm looking back at you and you're like in the cab of your truck somewhere. Oh, that's his Bentley. I'm in the back of the limo, drags. This is the Bentley. Driver.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Where's driver? Yeah, he's the shits. He really is. So anyway, I'm at the Jets game last night. And I don't normally pay attention to what the weather is going to be, right? Like, I mean, all we do is. I control it. No, you can't control any.
Starting point is 00:20:08 So somebody comes up to me last night, third period of the Jet Seattle game and says, they know that I've got a place out west here. You go into your cabin tomorrow and I said, yeah, well, that's the plan. And he's like, a hundred kilometer winds. Like, I don't like, I mean, every road between here and Yorkton, Saskatchewan is basically closed. I mean, the number one is open, but all the roads that I need to. to get to get to my place are essentially closed. So yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:40 Well, somebody somebody sent me a message. And I don't want to say who it was, but they described it as a motherfucking biblical blizzard out there right now. So that's that's what, how it was described to me by, by somebody close to them. Sounds familiar. I don't know who's that.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Someone close to the program. Um, so tell us about, because we, we, we, the flames have got the jets coming up. They had that unbelievable start. and now you've seen them up close and personal. I was talking, we were talking with noodles the other day,
Starting point is 00:21:11 and I said, it's going to be interesting for all you guys when you have to put your playoff picks in. They're going to be a playoff team, and there's been some who have picked the Jets before and have gotten burned badly. They lose in round one or whatever it is. They just flame out.
Starting point is 00:21:24 I wonder how many are going to have that faith or confidence to do it again this year. Would you be one of them? Yeah, I'm starting to lean that way, to be fair. and they just feel deeper and they look like they've got a higher level of confidence and there's a more committed buying if that makes sense. And, you know, I guess it starts with the all-world goaltending of Connor Hallibuck. You know, I thought Seattle started pretty well last night,
Starting point is 00:21:51 but there's a patience also in the Jets game where, you know, because of the parity that exists around the NHL, you have to expect that there's going to be push from teams that are desperate and that's what Seattle is. but Hellebuck made two or three just 10 bell saves, you know, just terrific where, you know, the group just goes, okay, well, that's what hell he does. You know, he's a Vesno winning goaltender. That's what he does.
Starting point is 00:22:12 And his numbers are terrific again this year. But they don't sit back. They continue to push and push and push, but they don't grow impatient. You know, all of a sudden, boom, there's an opportunity. Nikolai Ehlers, I thought was terrific in this game. He's just, you know, he's skating because he's healthy. So he's got, you know, that element. to his play.
Starting point is 00:22:33 You know, he sends it back to Dylan DeMello in a 600 NHL game. And I think that was the second goal of the year for the Jets defenseman. But he scores with 27 seconds left to give them the 2-1 win. And I mentioned this last night in our coverage, but I think what the team is experiencing here internally is that maybe they don't have to swing to the fence at the trade deadline again. Maybe they don't have to roll out another first round draft pick for that annual two center, You know, they just don't need it.
Starting point is 00:23:03 You know, Sean Monaghan, you know, last year at the deadline, it was Tofoli. Like, you know, so what they're seeing now is with Nemestikov hurt and he's going to be back soon. But they've got Adam Lowry slotted in that two hole. And I'll tell you what, boys, he can flat out play second line center. He can. Now, now it's a small sample size. So we'll pump the brakes between now and March 7. Maybe that changes.
Starting point is 00:23:25 But if you can visualize Lowry is your second line guy, Nemestikov is your number three. they've got enough depth organizationally that you're not worried about your fourth line per se. So that gives shovel a half maybe a bit more flexibility. So now he's not on the hunt for a specific centerman. Maybe he's just the best forward available. That's affordable. Or a guy that maybe gives you depth up front and then you invest more on a top four, top five defensemen.
Starting point is 00:23:53 So that's where Winnipeg is at right now. And it's a good place to be. They feel pretty good about themselves. I don't want to be the storm cloud. but it's Eilers' UFC year. Yeah. Do you see some sort of a decision that shoveled out has to make, or is it screw it or a one seed if we have to walk a guy to the summer?
Starting point is 00:24:11 We'll deal with it then. I think that's what will happen. I remember Dave Nonais coined this phrase years and years ago. And I'm trying to think who was a Bozak, Tyler Bozak, when, you know, he was coming up to the trade deadline. Do we sign them? Do we trade them? What do we do?
Starting point is 00:24:29 And he said, you know what? because of the team and how important he is, we might consider using him as our own rental, right? And that might be the case for Nikolai Eilers. So maybe you buy a little bit more time. I don't know what Eilers is thinking or is camp. You know, does he want to extend in Winnipeg or doesn't he? You know, he's earned the right to free agency.
Starting point is 00:24:47 So why wouldn't he go to July 1 and see what the market looks like? And who knows, you know, if the jets go deep into the playoffs or the planets align and somehow they hoist the Stanley Cup, well, then all bets are all. off. But I can't imagine, just based on the way he's playing now, how impactful he is, Winnipeg doesn't roll the dice and just say, look, we let that guy go. We're going to need that guy in the playoffs and ultimately to do what we're trying to do. So I think he sticks. He does have a bugger of a time staying healthy, though. He's missed so much time. But yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:20 he's a first round pick. He's great. I think I saw LeBron talking about it. And I would guess as the season goes along, if things remain the same, is Hellebuck going to be? in the heart conversation. We know where he's going to be in the Vesna voting quite likely, but could this be one of the times where we rarely, but now might see a goalie in this conversation? Yeah, and that's fair, and it's legitimate. I mean, they're the traditionalists out there who push back and say,
Starting point is 00:25:47 well, hold on a minute. You know, there is a top goalie award, and it's called the Vesna trophy. You know, you can say the same for a defenseman, right? The Norris. Normally it goes to the top point getter, like who's the most impactful forward out there. But what's wrong with thinking outside the box when a player or a goaltender has earned it? And I mean, look at the numbers of Connor Hellebock here, fellas.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Like, they're just their next level. And I won't tell you who it was. And I'm not trying to flip the conversation, but it kind of bolsters what we're talking about here specific to Hellebuck and being most valuable. So I don't know that, are you guys feeling a buzz with the Four Nations or not even a little bit? No, I think it's going to take the hockey to be on before people are going to buy in. It sounds like ticket sales are really soft. That's not good news for the NHL nor the PA because there's supposed to be splitting revenue here. Well, sold out.
Starting point is 00:26:41 That's wild. Well, I'll tell you what. And this is my own personal view. I didn't know that they weren't selling packages of games. You know, Chris Johnson reported on that lot. I didn't know that. I didn't know that. What I knew was because somebody said, hey, I'm going.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I'm covering the four nations starting in Montreal. And my 23-year-old son is like, hey, you know what, I'd drive up for a game. Why not? Checked online, Canada, USA, Saturday night in Montreal. I think it's the 15th. Tickets all over the place available. It's a preliminary game. But in the 400 level of the Bell Center, 600 bucks a chair, if you want to get lower bowl tickets and there's lots available, anywhere from 1,800 to 3Gs per seat.
Starting point is 00:27:27 for one year. It's a good way to really nose down this thing that you're trying to launch. Who's doing that? But anyway, back to Hello Buck. Back to Hello Buck here in a moment. And I asked, you know, are you guys feeling any buzz around the Four Nations?
Starting point is 00:27:40 Because I think we could all appreciate every team that's sending a player to one of these four teams, every owner, every manager has the same concern. What if they get hurt? What if my guy goes into this made-up event, which that's what it is? It's an introduction to an international.
Starting point is 00:27:57 national calendar. And I would think that there'd be more owners that would go, okay, I understand the marketing boon of all of this. Could we not wait for the Olympics of the World Cup? We're fine to get the calendar going there. Because, you know, now if you're Winnipeg, you're looking down and you're seeing Connor Hellebeck and the crease. Oh, yeah, Kyle Connor is going to play in the Four Nations.
Starting point is 00:28:17 There's an injury up front for Canada. You know, Marsh Heifleys got a shot as a role. Can you imagine of one, two, or all three of those guys somehow get blown up in the four nations and your Stanley Cup hopes potentially poof go up and smoke i mean yeah you'd feel the same way if you're if you're shovel day off in the jets if they go down in the olympics but there is a little extra sting to it yeah given that it's a you know this is the the fake Olympics or whatever noodles was calling it the other day um yeah it's but again red and i are on the one side and pinders kind of been on the other but i i do feel like i just don't hear anybody talking
Starting point is 00:28:57 about it. Everyone seems to know what's coming. It's a month away, less than a month away now. February 12th, yeah. Not great. I need to see the hockey. I mean, I also see the Olympics where you're like, oh, the Athens one, this is going to be, oh, you know, Rio is going to be a disaster for the, oh, no, this, Pyong Chang is going to be. And then they play the anthems and you see the sports.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yeah, I'm in again. They got it. Canada versus U.S., everyone's going to be wound up. And in Europe, Finland, Sweden's going to be really big as well. It's just not necessarily going to move the needle in Boston and Montreal potentially. I don't have. anyway, it speaks to the hard. I just don't agree.
Starting point is 00:29:31 I don't, we've had the conversation. Yeah, I know. If you could actually do a real world cup. When you say Rio, that's the Olympics. And people will watch events that they've never seen in their lives and know nothing about because it's the Olympics. Yeah. Yeah. Vancouver got thumped by LA 5-1.
Starting point is 00:29:50 I think it was last night. And, you know, J.T. Miller is back. But, you know, you and Pete, you know, you and Petey, that won't go away. Are you hurt? He says he's not to stop. The vibes are not immaculate in Vancouver. They haven't been all year and they are not, don't seem to be turning around. Might have been rock bottom for J.T. Miller last night, boom. They benched him talking at words. He slid to the end of the bench. The quotes post game, the give a bleep level on some goals
Starting point is 00:30:17 against. It was a people last night saying that might have been his last game as a Knoch. It was that bad. Well, and I don't know that. I mean, I put out the feelers today and it's, It's cricket's coming out of Vancouver, which is also in some way, shape, and form telling, right? But when I saw the media avail of J.T. Miller yesterday, I kind of went, ooh, this, this, this has the aroma and the look of a guy who's had enough. Yeah. He's had enough, not of the media. I think he does actually have a respect and appreciation for the questions that are being asked. But I feel like it can only go one and two ways, right?
Starting point is 00:30:55 either Patrick Calvina Management and the Vancouver Canucks brings his camp an opportunity, a trade opportunity, or maybe JT just steps up and goes, I got the no move clause. I've got three young kids. I'm going to protect my family. So you can drag me through the mud.
Starting point is 00:31:15 You can do whatever you want. I'm not waiving that thing until the offseason. And then I'm going to determine exactly where I'm going. I'm not saying that's how it's going to play out. but it's certainly an option that that would have to be considered, right, as this thing continues to drag. And, you know, as it's been reported by all of us, it does feel like J.T. Miller, it's more action around J.T. Miller. Because I think that teams, contending teams around the league, look at him as a tangible upgrade. They can visualize, you know, the grit that this guy plays with, everything that he brings when he's on his game.
Starting point is 00:31:54 and they can see how that would upgrade what they have. Elias Pedersen's a little bit different. I watched them that Toronto game where Vancouver was real good. And I saw a different level of Pedersen in that game. I mean, defensive zone, he was getting in lanes. He was trying to win puck battles and all of that. Didn't see that for, I didn't watch that game as closely last night. But what was the game before?
Starting point is 00:32:19 And they weren't very good in that game either. Anyway, he just, it's too inconsistent. So you, and from Vancouver standpoint here, guys, they're in a precarious spot in the standings, right? You know, it's not like they can trade J.T. Miller to the Dallas stars, who by the way, of a ton of cap space, right, because of Segin's injury. And I'm sure they'd like to have him. And I'm pretty sure he'd go to the Dallas stars. What has to come back the other way?
Starting point is 00:32:48 Look at that Dallas lineup. It can't be a prospect and draft picks. I mean, Vancouver needs to compete. Like they've got to stay in the fight here. So it's going to be curious, see how this all plays up. When they move Bo Horvatt, they did it for a first. And they immediately turned around and turn that first round pick into Philip Harnock, who they've since resigned and has been a great fit for Quinn Hughes and has just got back and healthy.
Starting point is 00:33:12 But it's a reminder that sometimes it doesn't have to be the asset you want that you start with. If you can get a first or two from Dallas. those play everywhere and teams selling want those. So maybe it's a similar tact with the same GM president. I think you nailed it, man. Honestly, and I think that that's why this is taking so long to develop. And that's because, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:34 maybe Alvin and the Vancouver Canucks haven't found that third party yet. Or they just haven't been able to put the pieces collectively together to make that whole operation sing. But I know management in Vancouver well. and I've spent enough time around Francisco Aquilini, part of ownership of the Vancouver Canucks to know. Like, he will be hot. He will be hot, especially after last night. And look, he's got an apple amount of respect for Jimmy Rutherford.
Starting point is 00:34:04 It's not like he's burning Jimmy's ears off the side of his head. But there would have been words. And I'm sure there have been many, many times. That's like he's a passionate owner. I get it. It's an interesting, the entire scenario. is interesting because it just it gives credence to everything that's been said about there being issues in the room or that there's something wrong and they've come out and said no everything what i don't know
Starting point is 00:34:26 what you're looking for there's clearly something wrong and when or how did it happen they went to round two of the playoffs they had a very good season last year it was a there was no reason to think that they weren't going to build again and and be one of the top teams in the west this right but if it can go wrong to almost to the letter it has for them well and red i'd like your your your you're just thought on this in your experience in rooms that you've been in over the years because again in Winnipeg last night and I always liked Blake Wheeler when he was with the Winnipeg Jets now both as a player and as a guy I mean boy very similar to J.T. Miller and his approach like he's in your face if you're not playing the way you need to play or are capable of playing
Starting point is 00:35:10 he's going to let you know about it and that rubs some guys the wrong way and so I wasn't in Winnipeg when Vancouver came through, but some of the media assembled here said walking into that room had a very similar feel, the Vancouver room had a very similar feel to when the Jets were going through some real tough times with Blake Wheeler at the helm. And at that time, and this wasn't necessarily Blake's fault, but maybe it gives us a glimpse of where Vancouver is at. It's not just about Pedersen and Miller. And nor was it about Wheeler and Shifley back then. But what happens when you've got situations like that potentially is it encourages clicks. So now you've got three and four players over here, three and four over there.
Starting point is 00:35:56 And the team as a group can never kind of find its way to that happy space. So does that make sense, right? It encourages clicks. It encourages silence. It doesn't encourage cooperation at all. And the funny thing, not funny, but it's stunning to me that talk it and foot and those guys that are there have. at least that it's happened under their watch, right? It must be so bad that those guys can't repair.
Starting point is 00:36:21 And that's exactly. Like to me, that's like these guys have been around, have been in rooms, have been those guys that pull things together. I think, I don't know them all that well, but that's the perception I have of them,
Starting point is 00:36:35 that they would see these things happening and have an idea of how to fix it. Noodle's about this last week. And it's like, it feels like nobody. knows what to do. And I think that's real, but that's not an indictment of, of Rick Tocott or Adam Foot or the coaching staff. That's how bad it is. That's how bad it is. And you're faced with limitations here. Like back in your day, Rhett, honest to God, wouldn't they
Starting point is 00:37:01 just put, they'd put curtains over the glass of the practice arena? They'd lock the doors so nobody could get in there outside of the actual team. And you'd figure it out. You'd figure it out on the ice. or you'd figure it out on the dressing room, but you'd figure it out. And that's the way Adam Foot would have approached things in Colorado and Rick Tockeet and the teams that he, I mean, it's just unfortunate. They just, they can't get that.
Starting point is 00:37:26 They can't get that accountability. And it is what it is. And again, it's not that. It's not an indictment on that. It's not an indictment on the coaches. It does create a unique situation where it's like, I don't know what to do. To follow up on this, when do, like,
Starting point is 00:37:42 if you go back a ways, Bruce Boudreau comes in and coaches Vancouver. They weren't very good. Boudreau comes in. They are good. Then they're not good. And they run Boudreau out of town, which is fine. Bring in Tocke and they come along big time last year.
Starting point is 00:37:56 I don't know that most people maybe saw them being good, but not as good as they were. Yeah. And now you've got damn. So what really are they? I think they're better than what they are right now. But are they as good as we maybe thought they would be? and which leads me into the real question I'm trying to ask is at what point does ownership or Rutherford or Alvin decide, you know what? This isn't the group.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Yeah. It's fair point. And Bessers for sale and these guys are for sales. We can quickly recoup. Yeah, it's going to be a down year, but we believe in the coach. We believe in the goalie. The goalie is going to be better next year you got to expect, right? Do we just throw in the towel a little bit?
Starting point is 00:38:43 Like you would never say that to the fans, but there would be an approach. They've got a bunch of players that are really effing good. And if they want to move them, I think they could get serious returns. Well, those three guys, right? In Pedersen, J.T. Miller and Brock Besser. I mean, I don't think Bessor's coming back.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Here's the one, and it's one omission from that list of names, that I think would really rankle the fan base. I think you could sell a renovation. I do because you got an educated Canadian fan base who are watching this group and they can see that it's not working. And they're tired of all of the headline nonsense and a rift and all of that. All they care about is wins and losses and a better direction, a better future. So I think you could sell because you're not getting, like, who's going to rip their roster apart?
Starting point is 00:39:31 A contending team, who's going to rip their roster apart to acquire Elias Patterson in season? Probably not going to happen, right? Maybe in the offseason you get better. return. But I think where you rankle the fan base in Vancouver is what about Rick Talkett? I mean, he's got an option on that contract. If Rick Talkett decides, you know what, to the point we just made 90 seconds ago, like in my life, I've never seen anything like this. And I've faced some adversity and challenges. And I got through them. It wasn't easy. I'm at my wits end here. I don't know what more I can do to fix this. So maybe it's
Starting point is 00:40:15 time we go in a different direction. And I mean, if that's the case, and I don't know what to be, but it's been speculated on, right? I mean, people are talking about, I think that one hits the fan base between the eyes because I do think that the fans have a real appreciation for everything that Rick Tocke and that coaching staff bring to the Vancouver Canucks. So back to back to Brett's point, though, like, do you think the owner would be on side with a step back for two steps forward that that goes against the grain on everything we've witnessed from Francesco Aquilini's since he's got the team like he is always win now burn the boats mode yeah and and I don't have a real answer for that from a hockey
Starting point is 00:40:52 perspective I think he he he could be convinced uh and Jimmy is a real convincing guy like I mean Jimmy Rutherford's got miles and miles and miles of experience and and I think he of anyone could explain how this makes sense. You know, do you want to squeak into the playoffs now and get dispatched and piss off everybody in Vancouver? Or do we want to make the necessary changes and build the right way in as quick a transition as we can so that we're really good for a long time moving forward? And it's not one playoff, it's multiple playoffs and away we go. And, you know, maybe the response from Francesco at that point is, well, I thought that's what we were doing last year.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Yeah. Like it felt like that's what we were doing. last year. So what's going on here? I to get to get back to where we started on this conversation with the Vancouver Cadux Boomer, I mean, something has to give plain and simple. And based on the aroma that came out of that building last night, it does feel like that's the final straw. Yeah. And a couple wins won't be enough. It's going to take a series of wins or just some Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Some impressive performances. It'd be tough if you're a Vancouver fan because J.T. Miller was an animal last year in the playoffs. So good. Last, whatever it was, November, I took my kid to a W.W.E event in Vancouver. They were chanting J.T. Miller in the arena. I mean, he's beloved there. So last night, the habs win a big one. Ottawa loses but gets a point.
Starting point is 00:42:31 They are both right there. One point back in the east, I believe. is what it is now, but they've got games in hands on Boston. Talking about ownership, I wonder about a guy like Michael Andlauer has his new team. They're that close. Do you kind of, maybe we tap on the gas here a little bit, Stevie Staisos. Maybe let's, if it means, you know, maybe we're going to escalate or accelerate things. And I wonder in Vancouver, because Kent Cue, or in Montreal, sorry, Kent Hughes came out and said,
Starting point is 00:42:57 oh, you know, we're sticking with the course. Yeah. It's tricky when you're right there. No, for those two will approach. things here. Yeah, and look, you know, both guys are very active. I guess I'd give the edge to Ken Hughes. He's already made a big deal in the Carrier deal. And that trade has paid dividends for the Montreal Canadiens. It really has. I don't know what you guys think, Elaine Hudson, but holy smokes, this kid is, you know, he's just something to watch. You know, he's Quinn Hughes 2.0.
Starting point is 00:43:28 I'm not ready to say he reminds me of Kail McCar. But, I mean, you're talking about high rent when you put them in a conversation of development looking at those guys the way he skates and thinks the game in his vision and all of that. Everything is clicking for the Canadians right now. But I'm reminded by Kent Hughes every time I asked the question you just did, they know where they're at. And sure, making the playoffs would be great experience for the young guys. It really, truly would.
Starting point is 00:43:57 They're more looking at 25, 26. And not only being ready for, you know, playoff hockey, but hey, maybe winning a round or two. And then that's just the ladder of development and experience that they're looking at. Ottawa's not there. Ottawa is in a different place. Like there has been money invested in that roster. Obviously with Linus Almark when he's healthy, go down the list.
Starting point is 00:44:22 But Steyos is shopping. Of course he is. He'd like to bolster that blue line. If the right piece is available up front, he'd like to add there. But they're playing better hockey at late. I mean, you know, Ovechkin with the overtime winner last night, nothing to sneeze at in that one. But Ottawa generally now has got their secondary scoring back on track.
Starting point is 00:44:43 So I think he'll try and do something. I just don't know how significant would be. So in a different world where there wasn't an MFing biblical disaster in Winnipeg. And what would Darren Dregor be doing right about now, say, you know, it's about noon, Manitoba time? Yeah. Well, it is. So I set my alarm for 6 a.m. thinking that, and I rented a four-by-four truck, just in the event that, you know, the weather was going to be a bit snarly.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Just, hey, you know what, it's a three-and-a-half, four-hour drive. I want to make sure that none of this nonsense is going to affect me. But again, I got word last night in the press box that something horrific was coming. 6 a.m., look out the window, it's dark. It's fine. It's perfect. My brother who lives in Langeburg, Saskatchewan, sends me a text at like 620 Manitoba time. He goes, dude, don't bother.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Like, he was, we're already getting tow truck social media alerts saying, if you're driving, if you're heading out on the road and you get stuck or in an accident, we can't come and get you. That was, I think, between Yorkton and Brandon. So here I am. And now, hey, look at how about this for being. that a prairie nice guy like you guys are okay so a neighbor at the lake his son is in winnipeg gets into he wrecks his truck this morning in winnipeg somebody clips off his front end so now i'm waiting on this guy to get all his nonsense sorted out and then he's going to jump in with me drive out four
Starting point is 00:46:21 hours to the lake never met this guy in my life where is he from he's got to be a good guy I mean, I think he's a Manitoba guy. Yeah, he's got to be a good guy. Got to be a good guy. So do you have an ice shack out there? What was the plan going to be? No, no, no. So my next door neighbor, Dougie Haberstock has the Taj Mahal.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Oh, yeah? He has a Taj Mahal. Like, I mean, there's everything in there. You've got barbecues. You've got satellite access. You've got cameras in the, in the freaking holes so that you can see the fish coming up to the bait. Yeah. I mean, in fact, I think he's actually got beds like bunks in there.
Starting point is 00:47:03 So I don't, and I don't think he actually stays in it, but, but you could. Well, if you do it right, you do need to lie down probably at some. But to your point, the sausage will be frying. Yeah. And dry January could turn into damp January pretty good. That's calling it Rye January. That's, it sounds close enough people that are listening. Rimy.
Starting point is 00:47:25 dry red January I heard that awesome well you'll make it work I never worry about you dregs you'll find a way because we love that stuff what's that
Starting point is 00:47:37 take some pictures of this tage if you get in for sure yeah fire him along Doug haberstock there's a name for the past Abby it's a good dude you bet appreciate you drags be safe
Starting point is 00:47:47 all right boys thank you there is he's a beauty Darren TSN Hockey Insider our insider here on the crystal waters plumbing and heating insider hotline And 403-219-4100, check them out at crystal clear Calgary.com. And again, if you've been putting it off, if you sense that there's something going on,
Starting point is 00:48:04 there's cold weather coming, solution for all budgets, financing affordable payment plans. They get it. They're here to help. 403-219-4100 is the phone number. So yeah, the Vancouver thing is, sorry. Not that I want to be stuck in Winnipeg. That sounds pretty good. a Taj Mahal
Starting point is 00:48:25 fish hat Well, but you got to get there That's the thing You're five hours of And in bed You're six, seven hours from it But yeah, it's, oh dude I just want to go to you know honestly
Starting point is 00:48:38 I feel like we need to do a You can talk about going on assignment What's the furthest east you've been Prairie? Because you've been in Saskatchewan You've been to Me? Yeah
Starting point is 00:48:49 Uh, yeah I've spent a lot of time in Saskatchew and then north of there, but really not much else. What about rural? Have you spent time in rural outside? Yeah, but not like prairie rural. It'd be more like we go up to like pass LaRange on some fishing thing. You're like, whoa, where are we here?
Starting point is 00:49:06 This is a different planet. But no, I haven't really. It would be so great. Yeah. It'd be like, you know, when Crocodile Dundee went to Manhattan? Yeah. It'd be like Pinder in small town, Saskatchewit or Manitoba. It is weird.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Most, most cities you go and you guys would be the minority. But in Calgary, it's not. There's so many prairie small towners. I think it's why Calgary's so friendly. I really do. I bitch about no parking and you'd be like, what's, where do I get my, uh, mocha frappuccino?
Starting point is 00:49:33 What the fuck? Fish out of water. No avocados here? Come on, guys. Yeah. Keynwa bowl. Yeah. Can I get a quinoa bowl?
Starting point is 00:49:45 Go sit outside, please. Go outside. That Vancouver stuff, man. That's crazy. That was, like you say, that was, that was not a good look. on anybody. I mean, you can say all the things you want to say. But man, we're halfway through the season. Last year, they were a game away from round three. Yeah. And I still think this can be a good team,
Starting point is 00:50:07 but they've got to address this issue. Like they spent most of the season without Demko, most of the season without Heronic, who is crucial because he's next to Quinn Hughes, who's their most important player by a mile. And I do like a lot of the support pieces they have. Like, I think Jake DeBress has been a nice ad. Garland's a really good player. Like, they just need to solve this issue. And, The Dallas thing is really intriguing to me. Like, good God, would J.T. Miller look good next to Jamie Ben. How do you do that for a corner?
Starting point is 00:50:32 Well, you get a first and you go turn into something else? How could they get rid of Bo Horvah? Because you might have to go up against them. Bo Horvats out east. That's part of the reason. Okay, but I mean, they got to get out of the division before they worry about anyone in the central. You got the Oilers and you got Vegas. Who can you add to win a series against those two?
Starting point is 00:50:48 They almost beat Oilers without Demco last year. They didn't have Besser for Game 7. I'm not throwing the. talent on their year, but this issue has to get resolved immediately. Yeah, it's not a tinker. No, it's a big move. You can make that move and on paper it could look good. It still has to work on the ice.
Starting point is 00:51:09 At least address that room issue, right? And you know what? My guess would be, in retro, you, like you say with clicks, if J.T. Miller is the problem. And my guess is he's part of it, but not maybe the root of it. You can get him out of there. You haven't, like, you've not cured the. cancer. You've not gone in and
Starting point is 00:51:28 there's still problems in there. Well, concern. I don't give a shit if the Canucks make the playoffs or not, but if you're trying to fix it, that Rutherford's best move might be, we're I'm going to stick handle for next year. It's
Starting point is 00:51:44 all fine and good and I don't disagree with you, Ryan. You get in the playoffs and they're good. It's just the owner. I think it's a tactically a strong one. I know. I just think the owner has me what I'm saying. Tactically, good word. I think that would be the smartest move because you start fresh next year. Demco's,
Starting point is 00:51:59 like they're all, we're on the same page and we can go do our team building and all this bullshit and start fresh. And you would, you would, the players they can move would bring in some real assets. It should. But, and that's what I was going to say, if you make a J.T. Miller trade and it doesn't work out that great,
Starting point is 00:52:21 and then, you know, Bessers out. And if Demco continues to have issues, Demko's the biggest thing, too. What are you looking at next year? Okay, we got Pedersen and we got Hughes. But where are we at? You've got a good team.
Starting point is 00:52:36 Pedersen and Hughes, Horonic. Do we think Demko's going to be brutal? I don't think Demko's, the issues with Demko is you had a weird, weird, weird one-off injury that it cost him almost a year. It's not that you don't think he's going to make saves. Now he does get back and then hurts his back. So, okay, is this going to be a thing where Demko's always hurt? Because it wasn't really a thing until it was a thing.
Starting point is 00:52:55 I'm not worried about Demko not being a good goal. I think he's an elite goal. I think he's on that American team if he's actually playing. It's just that he hasn't played in a year. Yeah. I would have just concerns that how many games can we count on? Yeah. But again,
Starting point is 00:53:08 you go back to, and I know if you're not going into the playoffs and you're not having to ride him and you're not trying, right now they need Demko and they need them to play every game because they're so, in such a shitty spot. Yeah. I wonder,
Starting point is 00:53:21 it was interesting the point you made there, that for guys like Adam Foot and Rick Tocke to see this go down in their room, they must be furious. But how much, but I wonder, there's got to be some
Starting point is 00:53:37 of their influence that's part of it. Cedines weren't stirring the drink as far as. No, but they were on teams that were tight. Like those Kessler like they backed up at present trophies. They go all the way to the cup final. They had those battles in Chicago. Like, I think that whole organization has rattled that this hasn't been diffused because there's so many
Starting point is 00:53:53 guys that were great teammates that are there. They have a large, large organization of former players. Sure. I don't. Anyway. Doesn't matter. I'm just curious why their name, you throw their names into the hat. I just think they got big influence of the owner.
Starting point is 00:54:06 That's why. I just feel like talk it and foot. They're in the locker room every day. Like they're, they're part of the team. And they've seen this. They've had front row seats to. Yeah. And there's a telegraphed at coming or something and to try and avoid it,
Starting point is 00:54:22 which almost makes you wonder if it's clearly beyond repair yeah it's beyond repair dina it would have been fixed it'll be interesting in 10 years when somebody gets loaded up and let's loose on what really played out and maybe it's just like look i always wonder what the hell happened to j t miller and tampa they move some significant assets to get him out of new york he comes and he plays in the top line with stamcoose and kuturov looks great for like a couple months. And next thing you know, JT. Miller's a fourth liner and the next off season, he's moved for a first round pick to Vancouver. Like, Tampa never sells talent. Tampa has to be forced into stuff when their cap runs out. Like, what the hell happened there? And so,
Starting point is 00:55:02 okay, he's an abrasive personality. I think you've got two very, very different individuals. I don't think they can find a restaurant to agree on. I think the politics are different. They're from different parts of the world big time. I think their lives away from the rink are entirely different and they're supposed to be together in a leadership group but it's oil and water and it doesn't mean that we're going to hear one story where this guy did this it's just these cats are so different and they don't really like each or respect each other it feels like wow but what allows you to have that in your room like that's not a unique situation what you're saying different upbringes different places these these are this this happens all the time in in sports and
Starting point is 00:55:42 hockey and locker rooms. The only difference is they're allowing personal bullshit to influence over team stuff. Right? Both these guys. And again, I said it to drag. All us old basketball games change. Kids are different. I think they are.
Starting point is 00:56:03 And it is what it is. But none of them have ever been told that the team doesn't matter. And these two, if they're that far apart, are treating it as. if I don't give a shit about the team. It's interesting, you talk about the Tampa thing. I mean, it seems like Miller's a guy he runs in the red, right? Like, he's intense. And maybe Kutrov isn't that guy.
Starting point is 00:56:25 He doesn't seem to be that guy. And if that ain't working, you're siding with Kuturov and maybe Stam Kosteroff. Okay, you're out. But now Miller's the guy almost in Vancouver. It's not a second or third piece down the line like you maybe would have been in time. But the public perception. and the media perception isn't always bang on
Starting point is 00:56:45 as what's going on in those rooms on whether or not he should be the effing guy. Yeah. It's all fine and good that he goes out and has a great playoff run last year. The fans love him, yeah, because he plays hard.
Starting point is 00:56:56 He might be an idiot. Do you know him? You ever talk to him? No. Like he could be a complete jackass. Dregs brought up, you know what, drags brought up Winnipeg and didn't want to make that connection.
Starting point is 00:57:06 But there's potential there for a comparable because he had a coach that left and said, I can't, right? Would it be crazy talk? I'd be like, I can't fix this. If the GM can't fix it, I can't fix it. And Blake Wheeler may be a great guy.
Starting point is 00:57:21 And maybe he's intense and maybe Shifley's intense. But the team's been pretty good since Wheeler left out. They were a disaster. And then you had made the Dubois trade. And Wheeler got out of there. They bought him out. And all of a sudden, they were, it looked like a group, a team again, not a group of individuals.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Like it's, that's why I still think Vancouver could be in gnarly because all the pieces that they, with a third string goalie and without their second best sniper, they almost beat the Oilers last year. The nice part about it, Ryan, is that you, you, you probably bang on, but you can find out, make a frickin move. You have to do it now. Make a move. Because one way or the other, something's got to change.
Starting point is 00:58:01 And if you make a move and a team doesn't respond, then you can make more moves. But if you wait right to the deadline thing, I'm going to make one move and we're going to fix at all, you might be screwed. I like the point that Dregs made where it's like, maybe they've got this deal for Miller done. They're just trying to take these picks and go get a piece they can add to this group. And that's hard because I don't know who's really said I'm a seller at this point.
Starting point is 00:58:21 There's a lot of teams in the east. Flames lose. I think they're going to get that last wild card. The flames aren't selling. I think you'll have more clarity on who's selling in a month because you know, it's just, there'll be 10 less games for teams to say, shit, we can still get in. It's just too bad at tapping for Vancouver. Yeah, it's a shame.
Starting point is 00:58:42 I'm such a great fan base. Disheart rational people. Brings the whole West Coast down. Yeah. You got all that dope out there. You know, because you think about it now, right? There was some,
Starting point is 00:58:51 those Vancouver fans that no doubt came out of the woodwork in spring. Mm-hmm. Awfully quiet. Not hearing as much of them. The social media is loud and it's like that, that J.T. Miller lack of a back check on the second or third goal against L.A. last night, like that's been posted a million spots. They love it.
Starting point is 00:59:10 I mean. It's sour. I mean, what you stop giving a shit. Your give a ship meter goes off. Get trade this guy now. Get this guy out of town. We got a couple things to do here. I'm talking about the hearing loss clinic.
Starting point is 00:59:29 I'm hopefully not going to be in the cowbell section. I don't know if you guys have done a lot of girls ringette. A lot of cowbells. We love cowbells. The moms are really into it and it's a lot of cowbells. So then you get the dad's. kind of lining the glass, kind of looking up. I think I was, I forget who I was asking.
Starting point is 00:59:47 Maybe it was noodles. What's the score differential where it's time to put, just put the cowbell away. Yeah, how much? You're up by four, you're up by five. What's the, because sometimes there's no, there's just no thought that maybe it's time to pull back.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Hey, every goal is a celebration. Yeah. Halang, ha, ling, a lang, a ling. And it's nine to one. Does the horn go off? It sure does. In St. Louis, they were going to bell 12 times if that happens.
Starting point is 01:00:16 That's true. But I love the minor kid's sport angle. The flybyes start happening at a certain point on most teams. When would you be like Center race, go? Five goal lead?
Starting point is 01:00:30 Five. Yeah. Five, Dean. High five, round of the guy that scored back to center. No more flybys. Well, if we're down by six and somebody's ringing a bell,
Starting point is 01:00:40 just put it on you. I'm sure you have one of those team apps. Yeah. Hey, hey, let's either way. And the thing is with the, you know, with those cowbells,
Starting point is 01:00:53 it's not just sportsmanship. It's about your hearing. Yeah. And with the hearing loss clinic, you know, Travis and Sabrina, they're the very best at it. Studies are showing that health risks
Starting point is 01:01:03 like dementia and depression and others have been treated, have been linked to untreated hearing loss. And why wouldn't you get it treated? If something else was going wrong with you or you weren't feeling well or you had an achy tooth or something, you would go and get it treated if your hearing is, get it treated. Or maybe you don't know that you have. Go find out if it needs some treatment.
Starting point is 01:01:26 It's not just about it's about empowering you to be socially active, engaging in conversation, more connected with loved ones and just more confident in every aspect of your life. Five locations in Calgary. Five in British Columbia. Cranbrook, Creston, Fernie, Golden, and Invermere. Find out more on their website. Again, they got a lot of info on the web, hearingloss.ca. If you think you're even kind of go on there and read around,
Starting point is 01:01:51 I think you're going to be encouraged to go in and have them take care of you. Rhett did. And what did they say? Wonderful. You're built like a horse. You have hearing of a horse. Get the hell out of here, you. You silly ghost, you.
Starting point is 01:02:07 Get out of here. How long have you been missing this? car key, sir. We found it in your ear. That's what they said to him. Damn. That's that Honda Civic you had back when you were a teenager. Didn't need the key. He couldn't find the key. There was. Well, there is the damn thing. There it is. Uh, we'll do our bet three six five football picks. Oh. Can I get red amped? Can I get them just jacked here? I'm totally good with that. Yeah. Okay. So it's Buffalo. It's the winner. He's a bill's guy. Jack.
Starting point is 01:02:35 We don't need any more than that. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. I'm already, Jack. I'm not even going to attempt to lie to you. The truth is this is likely the worst season y'all will have in the last five years. They'll suck, and they're gonna suck this year. But it is the worst season because they all don't have hope. You don't have enough talent to compete.
Starting point is 01:03:04 The window shut is shut. They put drywall over. You do not have enough to compete with the elite teams in the AFC. How about a story about a player whose life story is about being ignored, whose career story is about having things taken from them, seeing things slip through his fingers, his crowning moments, his life's work, and now his teammates, and his reputation.
Starting point is 01:03:39 Dog got to beat the other dog on the opposite side of the field, and the bills have run out of dogs. Stefan Diggs is gone. Poiryer and Micah Hyde, they're gone. Milano coming off of knee injury. John Miller, his Hall of Fame career resume, his Hall of Fame, Callum on the field, we haven't seen it in two years now. Tadavius White, he's gone.
Starting point is 01:03:55 Everybody's gone. Cornered, surrounded, outgunned, and still wins. If Josh Allen gets this team to the playoffs, he should win. Because that's the only way they are going to win football games. He will have to have a really good year. Not enough weapons. To quote Thanos.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Find myself. The most This guy's an absolute freak The most physically gifted quarterback in the NFL I've just never seen anything like this Who you bozos take in with your pick? I take it the bills again Are you taking it?
Starting point is 01:05:20 Jack The bells How do you not take the bills? Seriously I want to start with my picks for bet three six I'm revved up. Bet365, world's largest sports betting platform. I've got the Ravens minus.
Starting point is 01:05:39 Oh, no. But you didn't see the video. No, it's before I did the video. You want to change? Do we have a Ravens hype video? No. To see how they compare. I feel like they've got some shit that they could probably throw out.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Bet365. Use a promo code nation when you sign up if you haven't already. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet, at 365. Now, these lines, I'll be honest, I haven't watched a lot throughout the week. I don't know if there's been much in the way of movement, but.
Starting point is 01:06:10 Baltimore won's the big move. It started at minus one Buffalo and it swung two points the other way, even in the now one point in favor of Baltimore. I know. I'm sorry, Red. Really took the wind out of the sales there, Dean. It kind of did, yeah, yeah, kind of.
Starting point is 01:06:26 But you know what? Here's the thing. I will be your villain. I will be your bad guy. I will wear it. if the bills win this thing. And I'll, I'll be happy to do it.
Starting point is 01:06:38 I'm doing this for you. I am being the bad guy. For you. Because if we are, if we are a consensus show on the bills, they're screwed. Is that good? No.
Starting point is 01:06:49 That ain't good. I'll throw myself to the wolves for the show. We'll think you believe that. And for you, big boy. I don't think you believe that, but, um,
Starting point is 01:07:01 just Lamar looks so. Just say thanks to him. Thanks. Lamar looks so good. What a game. I mean, what a game. All right. Let's hear your stupid picks.
Starting point is 01:07:12 Honestly, the chiefs don't cover. They have the last month, but it's been a lot of not covering all year. Right? Like, it's been a lot of not covering. This almost feels like an opposite George for me. I feel like it's over a touchdown. It feels like they want me to take. Look at all those points for the Texans.
Starting point is 01:07:28 I'm going to swing the other way because it feels like too many points. so I'll take the Chiefs minus eight and a half. Kind of the same. I can't help but wonder. Jaden Daniels and this commander's team is so good. I do wonder if they're just going to get snot bubbled here. So I'll go the other way and take the points. Although I feel like I just want to take the lions there.
Starting point is 01:07:51 Anyway, I've got the Ravens minus one. And yeah, McVeigh, pretty impressed with what he pulled off. They're giving them points again. I'm going to take points again with the Rams. plus six. Okay. So I, so chiefs,
Starting point is 01:08:06 commanders, Ravens. You really touch yourself out of the commanders and then took the commanders. Yeah, you're back and forth. You've done a lot.
Starting point is 01:08:12 Yeah. Yeah. Whatever works though. Yeah, who knows. The second half of the year. I wasn't last week. No.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Yeah, we were pretty bad. Except for you, Ryan, you were all right? It's four and two. Four and two, two and four for me and red.
Starting point is 01:08:24 And boom, one and five. Ooh. Dean. Dean. Deem. Rick, give us your bricks.
Starting point is 01:08:31 Well, I'll take the points in KC. I don't want the Chiefs to win. I think they do win, but I do think the Texans are going to put up a big fight. The Lions are elite. And I think that the commanders had a good game and Daniels and all this. I think this is a statement game, statement season. Minnesota came to town.
Starting point is 01:08:52 We're going to kick your ass a couple weeks ago. Washington, you're all this in a bag of milk, sorry, punched in the face. We're going to bite your knee caps off. I thought I was the bag of milk. I got a body like a bag of milk. The Rams liked how they played. Didn't pick them last week. Going to pick them this week going to Philly, getting six.
Starting point is 01:09:13 And of course, I'm a true fan. Unlike you losers and your teams, and you vote and pick against them or don't pick them or this bullshit. The bills, Josh Allen, it's going to be a battle and Allen's going to have to carry the weight of the world, but he can do it. All right. Let's get to my picks.
Starting point is 01:09:31 I just have a bad feeling about Kansas City. You have Andy read this much time. He's going to scheme the hell out of this thing. I hope Houston comes in and makes us a game. But the Chiefs really, they're actually kind of getting healthy and dangerous down the stretch here. They've got Pacheco and Hunt. You've given a lot of time to this group. It's been a little hobbled at times of injuries.
Starting point is 01:09:54 Taking the Chiefs minus eight and a half. Detroit minus nine and a half. I think Washington, great season. kind of, they're going to get the doors blown off here if they're not careful. Love the Rams plus six. Surprise last week to many, but this is a group that's won before. I love their coach. I love their quarterback.
Starting point is 01:10:10 I love that young defense and the bills getting a point. God, it's going to be good to see the Chiefs and Bills again in the AFC final championship game. Imagine if Texans came to Buffalo. And that would be great. Right. I got the exact same picks as you. Hey, so the top two for the season. That's how winners win. both do a lot of points in this Houston KC game.
Starting point is 01:10:33 I like the way Houston's defense played last week. And the Chiefs haven't really covered. They covered near the end of the year. But I do like Houston eight and a half. Lions, I feel like I've picked them all year. And they just smash teams. Commanders, good football club.
Starting point is 01:10:46 But Detroit, by week, they'll kill them. Rams and Eagles. I've seen that this is going to be like a really cold and a bunch of snow going on in Philadelphia. I like that. Interesting game. I'll take the Rams plus six on the road.
Starting point is 01:10:59 road and then I'm with Rhett and the Bills. This is their year. I'm jumping on the Bills wagon with you, Rhett. Let's do it. You're welcome, Rhett. I'm going to make you some dill pickled it. Let's go. Look at that. Friends. Hey, I'm, you're welcome, buddy. You couldn't have a consensus going on the bills.
Starting point is 01:11:16 It's not how it works. I'm here for you. He's really taking credit. I actually don't care if you're in on the bills. I know you don't care. It's clear. Now, Jack, did you say, did you say expecting lots of points with Texans chiefs? Not a lot of points. I just think.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Oh, not a lot of. Too many points. The spread. Yes. I see. Gotcha. Because the over under there is 41.5. That's the lowest expected point total of the week.
Starting point is 01:11:41 55.5 between the lions and commanders. It's just begging you to take the under. If maybe the commanders stumble a little bit, could take the under there. So we got for the line. 44 is Rams Eagles. And the other one is 50. Bill's Ravens. Yeah, what's the weather in Buffalo?
Starting point is 01:12:03 What's the weather like today, like today, like today. What's the weather like to do in Buffalo? Are any of us looking or are we just expect? I'm looking at that. Oh, okay. Chiefs, it's going to be below zero, clear and windy. 22 degrees Fahrenheit. That's chilly.
Starting point is 01:12:23 Lines is indoors, not an issue. Philly, likely snow, wind up to nine miles an hour. and rate around freezing. And the bills, it's going to be well below zero. Chance of snow, light winds. Get those $20 bills ready, Pagula. Higher people to shovel out that
Starting point is 01:12:42 stadium again. Do you see what they did it with the new one? They're actually going to cover. Not the plane. The whole thing? Like the whole upper level will be covered. And they have a special heating thing on the roof so that when the snow lands, it melts and goes into these. It's lasers. It's lasers.
Starting point is 01:12:58 Yeah. AI. Rain? instead of world-class technology and stuff. Yeah. It'll be a good one. Be a good one.
Starting point is 01:13:10 Bet 365. Open that account. Use the promo code nation when you sign up. Huge range of markets. And the thing is, like, we just do the point spread.
Starting point is 01:13:17 There are props. There are galore in there. And this is the best time of year. Once the game starts, it gets even more interesting. You can, the lines change and move up and down. It's the best.
Starting point is 01:13:29 Download the app. Use the promo code nation when you sign up. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Beth 365. Xavier Worthy, rushing yards. It'll end around. Oh, hit the over there. Let's go. Come on.
Starting point is 01:13:39 He's so fast. He's so fast. He's got to hand the ball to him. He's quick. Running at an incredible rate, Harry. Rushing yards on it. Yeah, Xavier Worthy. Three and a half yards.
Starting point is 01:13:56 He's like, wait, you get one carry. He's going to have 20. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. indeed. Okay, let's go. Yeah. When are you, uh, ringetting? Are you, I don't know much. They, uh, I've been getting some updates here. Um, how's the transition gone from goal? It looks, it looks like it's a work in progress. Yeah. Okay. You know what? We work really hard.
Starting point is 01:14:22 That's good. Yeah. We work hard, but definitely did spend, definitely did spend two years not skating. Yeah. But we've got some, we've got more jam than our brothers did for sure. Oh. Our brothers were pretty south. Brothers are catching strays here. What's the update you were going to read there? It looks like it's one nothing good guys.
Starting point is 01:14:45 I like that. You better get in there, Dean. Yeah, we'll head in there. Go cowbell. That's right. I don't need more cowbell. Indeed. Other side of the rink glass hanged by the goal he's dead.
Starting point is 01:14:59 I'm going to miss you guys. No, you're not. We'll see you on Monday. What are you making for football? Oh, last question. It's tournament weekend. I'm not going to have a whole lot. I'm at the rink a lot here.
Starting point is 01:15:11 We got a game. Here's the game here. Then a team lunch, then activate, then game, tomorrow game, team game. You're not activating anything. So just don't give me that bullshit. I took my day. You can take food. Look what you're doing right now.
Starting point is 01:15:26 You could have the screen set up. You can be sitting in the back seat. I don't want to want to. want you activate. Can you cut that camera? That's gross. Let's cut the bag. Have a good weekend, move. Hey. See you, buddies. He's out of here. All right, Dino,
Starting point is 01:15:43 good luck with your picks. Good luck at there again. Overactivate. Throw your back out. Are you, uh, so minoring or are you cooked on? We're done. All done. Okay. We got semis tonight. And I believe a lot of the finals will be going down tomorrow. So a lot of update, hockey parents, coaches, kids. Best luck to luck to all those kids. Unless for the kids that your kids are playing. Those kids don't with their
Starting point is 01:16:01 them. Kids. Yeah. Pender Report time. Let's do that. Jacko, we do it for our good friends at Village Honda,
Starting point is 01:16:09 who of course are located in the Northwest Auto Mall and online at VillageHonda.com, whether it's brand new, 2025. You heard about this hybrid touring CRV? Love it. Reeks of Calgary.
Starting point is 01:16:23 Two motor hybrid power train, econ mode, Eco Assist, real-time wheel, drive. I don't know what that is. That's amazing. Topson's class. And yes, absolutely the Calgary winter and mine, the CRV hybrid touring 2025 is in stock and on the ground at your dealership for life, Village Honda.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Let's start with Flames Nation Rhett. What's going on? A pretty disheartening loss last night against the Blues. We still have that Rasmus Anderson conversation. Anything changed her? We talked about it. I said this last night to gold. I don't want to reopen the whole can of worms, but it's something to think about.
Starting point is 01:16:57 Rasmus Anderson turns 30, the first year of his new deal. They'll want eight years. You're going to buy years 30 through 37, those seasons. When does he start to decline? When did you start to decline? When do these young players that they've been drafting the last two, three years get into their primes? Does it match or is it just, hey, we need to keep him.
Starting point is 01:17:18 He wants to stay. We can't keep losing guys. There's a lot there to unpack. You have a lot of questions. And I don't know that expect you to have a answer, but it's just. Well, does he need to be around to help these young guys? You have a weager. You need more than one.
Starting point is 01:17:33 Yeah. The Uyghur can't play with all of the young guys coming along. Yeah. And they're all righties. What are you going to get back in return? You'd get a haul. I feel like it'd be really good. You get a couple firsts and a prospect.
Starting point is 01:17:47 But he wants to be here and you like him. He's a leader. I like do he plays. There's more in that article, including some salary expectations and such. I head over to flamesation. com. For more.
Starting point is 01:18:00 West Wildcard. What's going on? There it is. Avs blew a 3-0 lead against the team we shall not speak of last night. Stupid flames. Even two points in St. Louis makes a huge difference. Yeah, the Blues do have those games played that are higher than the flames. So the Calvary still holds a couple in hand,
Starting point is 01:18:20 but the schedule doesn't help them a ton here. They've got two against Winnipeg, one against the Wild in their next four, a one-game homestand against Buffalo, the other contest. Here's your top 10, talking about who. they're going to be playing. This is the league's best after last night's action of busy slate. Oilers all the way up to four, but there's Winnipeg and second, a virtual tie for the best team in the league. You'll see them twice in the next eight days. And Minnesota, there's the
Starting point is 01:18:46 other team you're going to play. They're also quite good, talented club. Capriza of starting to skate. I think he's almost back. They're doing it without him. Gustafsson's actually been pretty meh for two weeks. I think he said like three of his last four. He's had four or more goals against. So. Minis, I've been quite impressed. Remember, they've been doing this for like 15 million bucks dead cap space with the suitor and pariset biots. That's coming off the bucks pretty quick. They know what they're doing.
Starting point is 01:19:15 Old Billy G. You like that Fiala for Faber trade? Yeah, that's a good one. I like that worked out. You're doing all right. Fellas, doing all right. Alice Ovechkin scored again last night, right? He's 21 goals away.
Starting point is 01:19:29 are you kidding me? Wow. Here's the thing. It was a zero-zero game in overtime. This was not an empty netter. Ovi. That's a big one to put his team into first place in the entire NHL. I don't know that anyone had to score into this rate on their bingo card, nor did they have Washington in first place. First place, folks. January 17th. Spencer Carberry, give him two Jack Adams. No one else is even closer to that. I don't know how it works, but he's a heavy favorite. Columbus Blue Jackets, they're hot. Let's take a look. four one, six in a row. And this is from Aaron Portsland, who's watched cover this team for over a decade.
Starting point is 01:20:06 I don't think they'll be happy with this one. Cruise control for most of the third. Better team would have made them pay. They're winning and it's not even, they're impressing. Okay. Happy for them, actually. I am too.
Starting point is 01:20:20 That's a hell of a story. And they've got some big, talented young players. Marshanko's having a hell of a year. Veronkov's scoring a ton. Who are these guys? Monny. Nashville or Nash? Nash, Rick Nash.
Starting point is 01:20:35 Speaking of Columbus, anniversary of this goal. We showed you the only goal was yesterday in the anniversary books. The day after on the calendar is another one of the greatest of a decade. It's a top 10 goal of all time in the televised era of the sport probably. It's quite dandy. It's just jockstraps in the rafters. Well, get a piece of them. almost loses at the end watching kicks to the stick.
Starting point is 01:21:08 It's like, no, no, I still got this. That's just wild. Can we get a bar of soap for Rick Nash? Arizona as well. Yeah, both against Arizona. Speaking of Arizona, Oli Yokan, happy Friday, we'll give you a little more from him. Fucking elevate, raise the level.
Starting point is 01:21:25 Ask yourself, if this is all you can give four weeks before the season. If that's all you can give, we can live with that. Then we know that we got a lot of fucking work to do. But I fucking saw you guys this week how you trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. And I don't see those fucking, I don't see that fucking fire in your eyes, I don't see that fucking bite when you go out there. Now you're just playing the game because it's been on the fucking schedule. Find a fucking way. Find a fucking way.
Starting point is 01:21:55 Each guy. If you struggle offensively, defend, bring something on the table. Something on the table. So we can value it. So we can evaluate you that, okay, he didn't score tonight, but he brought this on the fucking table. Just kills me. Something about it all makes me laugh because Oli's asking them to go be heart and soul. Ballers.
Starting point is 01:22:21 And that is not a whole he played at all the way I recalled things in Calgary. It wasn't that he didn't try, but he was a very big, skilled. It was not like you were watching Cam Neely. He got a lot of games without playing the playoff games. Yeah, he did. Yeah. And he does, I'm just wondering how many of these speeches are directly what he's heard from Mike King. 100% looks like him.
Starting point is 01:22:43 I can't get enough of this. There's definite influence. Do we need a Friday Yokinen mandatory on the show, Jack? Is that a move? Mandatory Oler? Yeah, do it. Or is it just, we've seen two, we've seen it all. It's very similar, but motivational.
Starting point is 01:22:57 I love it. I also like to finish almost perfect English, but still. Yeah. Touchy. A little bit monotone. I didn't see fire in your eyes Monday, too. Tuesday, Wednesday. Tonight's contest on Friday, just a pair.
Starting point is 01:23:10 Light slate. Let's look. For Ole's team? No. Oh. Yeah, we're staying away from the S. HL now. The Pinguino Jack in Buffalo. Ooh, Jack. This is a... Should we bet?
Starting point is 01:23:24 It's a bet. Actually, I don't want to bet on this team. I got a question for you, Rat. If you're a GM or a coach or you just have to pick a horse, who do you want for the next five years out of these two teams? Oh, I want Buffalo easily. they've got the young talent Pittsburgh
Starting point is 01:23:38 Pittsburgh feels like they're in a ticking time bomb right now I don't know what Pittsburgh does Sid go to Colorado we need someone to beat the Oilers in the West Apparently Middlestad hasn't impressed in Colorado No I don't know why Colorado went from middle Well I think they were trying to
Starting point is 01:23:55 I know what they're trying to do but he was not the guy It was the Ryan Johansson issue it didn't solve the problems Like okay we'll try to trade for the problem Byram seems like we've got a lot of guys that do what he does. Gerard McCar, they like Taves. Middlestad and Buffalo is unimpressive. The other game is a doozy. This is two of the newer owners in the league and two of the better teams in the last five, six years.
Starting point is 01:24:17 Carolina hosting Vegas. Oh, I'll watch that. Yeah. Good. NFL, we showed you the odds. We'll flash them again. The four games on the weekend, we walk through our picks and all that. But a reminder of the Saturday games, it starts in Kansas.
Starting point is 01:24:32 city at 2.30. Detroit's got the Saturday night game. Then it's Sunday afternoon, Rams and Eagles, and the gem, the bell of the ball, the bills against Baltimore in Buffalo at 430. That's going to be a great game.
Starting point is 01:24:51 The Raiders, when you think of well-run organizations, you... Quality. You don't think of the Raiders. The other team in Oakland, the athletics. Don't think of them either. here's an interesting one. Now, there's a fellow named Byron Young
Starting point is 01:25:08 who's been absolutely lighting it up for the Rams. Apparently the Raiders may have totally botched this. They announced the name, but picked the wrong Byron Young and have since cut him. What? And the other guy's been like a game changer for the Rams, Jack? This feels very Raidersy.
Starting point is 01:25:25 It does, Bill. What round is this in the draft? The second maybe? I'll look it up, Byron Young draft. Yeah, it's like, that's an epic fail. That was like in the CFL, they drafted a dead guy once. Didn't that guy in Toronto?
Starting point is 01:25:38 Like what are we? Toronto sign of defense. Yeah, the Jeff Finger thing with, I thought it was Kurt Sauer. Yeah, that was a disaster. This is, yeah, Byron Young got drafted. The linebacker.
Starting point is 01:25:56 What round? Come on, fellas. Tell me this. Jerks, you this. It was an acre on that episode. round three like come on this is like megastod territory you can't be drafting the wrong guy who's our impactful players very quick yeah good player go ramps different positions whoops uh i enjoyed the cfl slander now we always um you know enjoy the cf lea nature of the
Starting point is 01:26:21 we support the cfo which is that it's a great league we love the players but sometimes there's just stuff that's uniquely janky and cf le it's kind of faded they're getting better at their brackets we saw the nice schedule release videos uh they had nathan rourke playing that what is it geofinder something like that what do you understand this game jack yeah the geofinder so they drop you're you got to guess what city is that's what they did their schedule release which is cool because roark's canadian and blah blah blah they announced so we're in winnipeg on this day we've like calgary we saw the stamps did the vernon adams hey va here's what you need to know about being calgaryen for your sunglasses talks lord edmontonians all that stuff uh and and we heard from a team that
Starting point is 01:26:59 I didn't even know it was in a league anymore. Let's see what's going on here. The Las Vegas posse tweeting, don't worry, red blacks and Argos. We didn't do a schedule video either, but we can all try again next year. That's beautiful. Yeah, I didn't see the posse video.
Starting point is 01:27:14 Oh, no. They got skipped. They're just a little behind. Couldn't get it done on time. CFL. Next year. But the videos they did do were good. Great.
Starting point is 01:27:26 Yeah. I liked it. dumb sports let's go yes you want to see a nine leger a perfect nine legger I think that's what this is oh no this is not at all this is oh yeah this is good stuff okay rasslin we cut the darts darts too much dumb stuff oh
Starting point is 01:27:46 that one hurt that's the how do you get that just right one two like it's a double front flip one two oh my god i did do it good one and a half that's what it's a one and three quarters well executed i still do not want to be in the red tights yeah no that's uh who i know your body doesn't feel great after how many seasons in the nchl 14 or something long enough but these guys doing this for decades because they'll go in their 50s like undertaker was doing one or three the other day we're
Starting point is 01:28:23 talking about what how's aging on that set of uh bones not ideal. I'm going to go. Yes, up. Do you want to look at the world mini putt champion? I love it.
Starting point is 01:28:38 He's from Sweden. He's awesome. This is a very non-traditional stance, too. Wow. This is a very hunched over deliberate swing. I don't know. He's the old guy.
Starting point is 01:28:56 I don't call me who it's a little jack. Jack. Jack was hunched. Does he still play the Masters? Oh. That's bounce. Don't worry. That's good.
Starting point is 01:29:10 Number one in the world. You can only hope one day we can be that guy from Sweden who we don't even know his name is the greatest mini golfer. Number one. Number one. Don't need a name. Just call him number one. Just call me number one. Now, the shoveler had this idea because your hair was longer.
Starting point is 01:29:30 Why don't we have some fun in the winter? So this is, let's go to your backyard and see what's up. Okay, we're going to try round two. It is pretty nice out today. It's nice and sunny, but the wind chill is down to like negative 20. So I think it should go pretty fast. Okay. I don't know why you used to do it.
Starting point is 01:29:52 It's already starting to freeze. I think this is going to work. Okay, so now you're on the table stretching. Is this part of the bills thing? You're going to get jumped on? Yeah. This is the rest. worried about my phone dying than myself it's definitely crispy whoopsie okay well that's the end of that
Starting point is 01:30:15 there's a little squirrel over there yeah he's just laughing at me are you on zoomie sir what's happening you have a hell of a day so let's uh slowly what's the payoff here it's got to be good so i don't pass out spiky hair yeah it's worth it it worked it perfect that's like legit march simpson that's unreal my okay so there we have it that's happy man right glad you're happy yes you're happy i'm happy we're all happy we're all pieces of fungus and some spiky hair where you go uh the problem is is he said it was minus 20 or you did yeah zoomie's got to be hitting because you're going to want to get inside but then that You'll lose the party trick.
Starting point is 01:31:12 Great soccer goal. You coaching? Love it. Yeah. Big time. Love what. Coaching what soccer? No, I can't run.
Starting point is 01:31:19 No, I just tell them what to do because you're drawn up the plays. You don't run, but you're like, really confused the opponent. So they've got to build a wall or something here. What are they doing? Bring around the rules? Look at this. It is, too. Who's covering who?
Starting point is 01:31:35 The team and green, they're completely, all, everyone's open. Look at this. Oh, post it. Oh, yes. That's Reds ring around the rosy. Never fails. That is. Oh, great scheme.
Starting point is 01:31:50 Great play design. Love to see it. You got to be able to take chances, folks. This one's called Table Smash. I think it probably has something to do with Bill's Moss. Did it. The double recycling bin is a serious dangest. Even the dog knows.
Starting point is 01:32:09 This is a shitty idea. Get down. Get down. I don't know that you've ever been so excited to try to hit the dog. I told me, idiot. How did that become a thing? Like, that's literally what the fan base is not for. I don't know why it did, right?
Starting point is 01:32:37 Now, you're working on something for that festival in the summer. You know, the street buskers, the people that do tricks on the street? Oh, yeah. Then they have a, now they've got these festivals where all the buskers meet. So walk us through your routine here. I love your outfit. That's a house on wheels too, if I'm correct. Yes, that's...
Starting point is 01:33:28 You're ready to tour. That house got stolen. Just make sure you're sharing whatever you're on there. That's the good stuff. Holy. Finally, we'll close the show in the week with... Well, more milk content. We're really getting into the milk.
Starting point is 01:33:44 Love the milk. Instead of trying to dunk your cookies directly into your car gallon. Pour some milk in your cup holders for easier dunking. I don't know why this kills Jack and I All this milk stuff What the hell's going on Jack? Why is this even funny? I don't know. It's so stupid. It's really lame.
Starting point is 01:34:04 Like the moment you take that thing out of park, it's a huge mess. This is an absolute nightmare. It's really lame. It gets lamer. Let's go. There's more. Get rid of a shower gear. Some watered down shower milk.
Starting point is 01:34:24 Yeah. Sometimes I might that milk keep cold. I really want some hot water in there. I can't start the day without it. I'm hooked now. The shower milks. Honey, get me a glass of milk. And I know the other thing you love is that it's your cold punches, right?
Starting point is 01:34:44 Wim Hof. Well, get ready for the new sensation, ready to sweep the nation. It's the milk plan. Starting 2025 the right way. It's not funny. It's maybe it's his jacket. It is definitely just you and jazz. The milk stuff is so dumb.
Starting point is 01:35:12 We love it. That's big milk, big dairy. Yeah, they're sinking their claws into the algorithm here. They got us, man. I don't even drink milk. I can go buy some. I love milk. That is your Pinda report for our good friends in Village Honda,
Starting point is 01:35:29 a reminder, whether it's a new vehicle or a pre-owned. Village Honda's got the huge selection going on. Those used vehicles, all makes, all models. plus within their dealer group, access to 500 plus vehicles, whatever you're looking for, they got it. And, of course, the 2025s have arrived. Mick Village Honda, your one-stop automotive destination in Calgary. They're definitely worth the trip located in the Northwest Automotive.
Starting point is 01:35:52 Yeah, get down there and check out that cellist. He's going to be there performing all weekend. Is that right? Anthony brought him in. Yeah, wow. Saw the video. They're going to need extra parking. That's quite a, quite a show he's putting on. It's interpretive.
Starting point is 01:36:06 Jack, how we doing? Are you ready to get out of Martaloupe? Yeah, I need to go home. Nap time, Jack? It's been a while. Yeah. I need a nap. You're going to get something to eat on the way?
Starting point is 01:36:13 What are you going to get? Ooh. You're getting booster juice. I'm telling you right now. That's the move. You need to get clean. Yes. Back on the right path.
Starting point is 01:36:21 We're a week away from games in Jasper. Okay. We're eating clean. We're getting healthy. We're going to energize you. They're the proud puck partner for our Jasper pond hockey tournament. Coming up next weekend on Lake Mildred, Boilers Nation, Flames Nation,
Starting point is 01:36:35 the trophy behind us. We're looking to go back to back, baby. Let's go. Make sure you get fueled up for what you're doing. At booster juice, visit a location today to refuel, refresh, re-energize. Also, you can download their new booster rewards app. You can earn, order, enjoy the berry points. That's what you're collecting, right?
Starting point is 01:36:53 That's what you want. The booster rewards app, get those berry points. Turn those into smoothies, drinks, and food that'll get you through the day. And Jack, get you feeling better. Okay? Yeah, I need to go to booster juice. I need one of those mango hurricanes. right.
Starting point is 01:37:05 Yeah, light it up. Dang. And they got one in the, at the rink down south. Oh, yeah. That was a spot for years. That's where I went to high school, too.
Starting point is 01:37:16 Shoot, and we're not at that rink this weekend. I can't be craving it now. I'm going to have to look up to see the other locations. Okay. Good. Also, in Jasper, we're excited to get to the,
Starting point is 01:37:26 the Yeti area. Dean knows more than I do up about this, but apparently we got like a great setup. Tense blankets hanging out. Coolers. Yeah. Like the coolers, we know.
Starting point is 01:37:35 but yet he's they're all things great outdoors now belt for the wild there's the slogan you've seen did he buy an orange yet he get the bottle there the other yeah because of the bears no and i feel like the bears it's kind of an orangey red but it's more red than orange isn't it jack or is it orange oh it's kind of them it's more orangey yeah you're probably right huh this is such a big bears fan huge yeah yeah i mean be hard to hear from on the weekends when we yeah right that excited about getting up there it's always fun to be in jasper you know it is going to be a lot to drive by what was a devastating fire that they went through but we are excited to get back up
Starting point is 01:38:17 and hopefully this is part of that community recovering i know where we're staying the jpL they somehow survived a lot of those atrocious fires but uh always great to get up there and see familiar faces and all that and excited about the setup that yet he's got for us crave the cold and extend your ice time with hard hitting gear that's built to honor the toughest sport on earth. That's, of course, a pond hockey. You won't have to take your suitcase to the hot tub.
Starting point is 01:38:43 No, that's right. I think it will be well-stocked with the Yetty. Yeah, you don't need that rolling. It's a nice touch for it. I'll get yelled at with my Yetty cooler full of non-purchased alcohol.
Starting point is 01:38:53 Yeah. Should have. Big thanks to Eddie for coming on board as well. Jack, what do we miss? Where are we at? Klingberg signed at the Oilers. Do you want to talk about that? Really?
Starting point is 01:39:03 Okay. Okay, so John Clemberg was a guy that played in Dallas for a long time. We remember that turned down some big money, ended up signing a short one-year deal with Anaheim. It did not go well. They bring him into Toronto last year. Wasn't good at all. Ugly to watch. Injured.
Starting point is 01:39:17 Needed a hip injury or surgery. He's got it done. Now he's back. He's a right shot defense with a lot of offense. If you're asking him to be more than a third pair guy, I don't know. It's a nice fit for him, though, because he's going to go into a situation where if he does play well, he can't help. And they'd probably chance to win. I like it for John Clemberg.
Starting point is 01:39:35 I don't know if it solves the Oilers issue. They need another top four guy. What did he get? Do we know? What are the numbers? Is it a salary there? Half a million bucks? No, no numbers.
Starting point is 01:39:44 That's, I would think it's the... I think it's worth a stab as far as the oilers are concerned, isn't it? Well, I, I'm assuming it'll be something close to League men. It doesn't prevent them from going getting another defenseman. I haven't minded the whole, like, Kulak, Stetcher, Emberson, like, those third pair guy's been fine. If they're asking Clemberg to play with Nurse, this won't go well.
Starting point is 01:40:05 But there's other spots they can put them, I guess. We'll see. We're bitched about him not getting a defenseman and they go get one. I don't know if he could be good or not. Yeah. You don't have to pay any price to bring him in. I'd rather have Cody Cici. That's what I'd say.
Starting point is 01:40:18 Is that Cody Cici available? No? Okay. I had to run him out of town. Yeah. We just match the offer sheet. Do what you want. Have a great weekend.
Starting point is 01:40:29 Flames and Jets tomorrow. A reminder, it is the evening. not the night game on Hockey Night and Canada. It's a little bit different for the flames, but very normal for the Jets. They're then home next week, not until Thursday. And we've got,
Starting point is 01:40:40 I believe the End the Dome Boys doing the afterburner following the Jets contest. So big shout out to Mike and Jordan for that. They're always a ton of fun. Jack, get home, get out of Mardi Loop. It's,
Starting point is 01:40:51 you need to go. It's, you can only handle it in circumsize toast. I don't even remember where my car is. That's fine. So hopefully you'll have it located by Monday and we'll see you back at work. everyone else. Enjoy the football games. Good luck to all the young athletes in the Golden
Starting point is 01:41:05 Ring and minor hockey tournaments. We'll see you, buddies.
