Starting point is 00:00:02 Well, hey, how we doing? Welcome back to another edition of Barnburner. A July, I don't want to say mailing it in. I don't want to, you know, because I want to feel like if people are taking the time, if they're invested in watching or listening to this thing, the very least we could do is have that same kind of commitment to it. But the give a crap's a little low. It's a little low. Little low. I'm hungover, so I don't know. Really? Well, details on that. Pinda report. Rets hangover. Stand by for details. This show is a presentation of Bet365.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Hockey season is over. It's tough. Every year the hockey season ends. There's a lot of time between now and the next puck drop. But the good news is Bet365 still has plenty of games. Just none that require skates at Bet365. Casino. You can choose between hundreds of slots, live tables, your favorite games.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Must be 19 or older. Please play responsibly. We are live, so we've got a super chat. That is great news. If you are so inclined, you can put some money in the YouTube live chat, the comment section, and we'll put the comment on the show, and we'll get the money that you senders of Calgary. They'll do good things with it as we are here in a unique McLeod Law, LLP Studios, hoping
Starting point is 00:01:23 your summer is going well that maybe things around the McLeod Law offices are a little quiet. Maybe they're out with their cowboy hats, having some fun. But whatever it is you need, serious or just run-of-the-mill, business personal, anytime there's any legal need. It's only McLeod, McLeod-Law.com, as we say hello to Rhett Warner, who is not in Mardaloupe. He is not in his home studio in Calgary. He is not even above, what's the parallels? 40, 49? 18th.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Yeah, north. He's below the 18th parallel. The 100th meridian. The 100th meridian. Bill Barilco disappeared. You're in, you're in Buffalo, New York. I'm in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Is it Buffalo proper? Or is it like an outskirts? It would be the outskirts of East Amherst. So East Amherst. It's muggy. I bet. I bet. Humidity in the air.
Starting point is 00:02:23 And when there's high humidity, it doesn't allow the body to sweat correctly, Dean. So I'm dying here with my hangover. Is that right? So do we have some pits, pit sweat, swass or? It feels like it's beginning now. Yeah. It's starting to, and adding hot coffee to try and wake up the brain.
Starting point is 00:02:46 It's a bad balance. You take that first. It's like, ooh, ice coffee, it'd have been good. And a nice one would have been good. Okay, well, there's a lot to get to, obviously. Most importantly, how did we, how did we get to having a hangover? Well, we're in Buffalo and we're visiting with old pals and old coaches and kibbetson and, yeah, just went over to the middle guy's old coach's house yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Started, had one, then it was two and yeah. A lot of hot takes. Tis the season, though. Yeah. Yeah. What, so is it about kid hockey, grown up hockey. Kid hockey, Canada, USA, hockey, hockey, politics. beliefs,
Starting point is 00:03:31 food quality, which Canada. Yeah. Portion size. Yeah. Yeah. It really veered off into a lot of things. School. They're teachers, so they have an opinion on school.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I said you're an idiot. Yeah. I don't know. It really was a vast array of topics, much like our show, Dean. Yes. You never know where it's going to go. Oh, we cover a lot of things. Yeah, you just never know.
Starting point is 00:03:59 What was the, the liquor of choice. Was it? Just a cold Corona. Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah. So you're down in East Amherst. I'm here in the basement of my place. Jack decided
Starting point is 00:04:14 he's been sitting around the house. He's been bored. So he said, you know, we're doing a show. I'm going to Martin Luther. I want to get out of the house and I want to be productive. It's his professionalism. A real go-getter. I said, good for you, Jack. Well, you'll be alone there because Rett's not coming in and no pinders away this week.
Starting point is 00:04:32 And I don't see why we would do that. How does, how has it been worth the trip, Jack? Do you feel like it was worth leaving the house and going to Martin? Absolutely not. I am beyond pissed off. I'm in the studio, but I'm not in the studio. Because I got in through the front door, but the next level of doors are locked. So now I'm just sitting in a closet and on my laptop.
Starting point is 00:04:53 No headphones, completely unprepared, non-professional at all. We have new landlords over the last couple of months. And they have, they changed the front door. There's a nice new door in the front. But we don't have a key to it. But there is a system, which we appreciate.
Starting point is 00:05:14 And now, like you say, the inside doors, which are never, the doors are never closed. They're locked tight. So you cannot get into the studio portion of our, of our thing.
Starting point is 00:05:27 That's correct. There's a little vent in, this room I'm in. I've debated trying to crawl through it. That's what you're going to have to do. You're going to have to shimmy through. Only if you can get a camera set up that we can see this event happening because this would be amazing. Can you get like a GoPro or something? We'll play the, we'll get the music going as Jack tries to get in there. You like Catherine Zeta Jones in that one where she's got the tights.
Starting point is 00:05:56 She's trying to get under the laser beams and stuff. Well, you know. You know what? Your heart was in the right place, Jack. It was. You wanted good things. You wanted nice things. Did you go to Montana, Jack?
Starting point is 00:06:12 No, I didn't do anything, boys. I went to have stories. No one wanted to go. They all wanted to go to Stampede, and I didn't. So I did nothing. I got nothing for you. Hence, they wanting to leave the house just to go to work. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Is it September yet? Jack, see, here's the thing. This is Hot Jack summer. I know. I think it's over. It's July 7th. June, it rained all of June. We finally have some sun. I feel like this is the time.
Starting point is 00:06:47 This is prime time. It should be. I don't have it in me right now. I don't know why. I could tell last week when Pinder was on my ass. I'm like, I don't, I'm not feeling it. I'm not feeling it. It's hard to live vicariously.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Is that the word? Yeah, vicariously through you if you're going to be a loser. Like, I don't, I can do that all on my own. Yeah. He's not up for it. Or, Dino, he's not doing it. He is not up for it. Not going to be pressured into it.
Starting point is 00:07:18 It's not working. Adrenaline source for sports. They're up for it. We've been talking about adrenaline for a while. It's just, I mean, it's summer now, but as we all know, hockey season never ends. This coming, this coming Friday, July the 10th. That's like in just a,
Starting point is 00:07:33 couple days away. The CCM Jet Speed FT9 Pro sticks will be available in charcoal, red and blue colors at adrenaline source for sports. So what makes the FT9 Pro stand out? It's the feel. CCM added their new neosense fuse construction exclusive to the jet speed line creates a seamless connection between the blade and the shaft, enhancing puck feel like never before. Hybrid kickpoint. You're getting a nice balance, a quick release when you need it, but still enough power behind your shots dual control blade look at that thing softer in the heel for better feel passing stiffer in the toe so you can really lean into it if you want to get your hands on the brand new ft9 pro the ccm jet speed ft9 pro stick head over to adrenaline source
Starting point is 00:08:19 sports friday and try it out for yourself they got the shooting gallery of course in both locations and don't forget until the 12th of july if you mentioned barn burner when you go into the a Cloud Trail, Northland, or Flames Community Arena's locations, you'll get a free skate sharpening, one per customer. There you go. So there you see. The sticks available on Friday. And until the end of the week, until the 12th, free skate sharpening.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Who says things aren't free, huh? But you got to mention Barnburner when you go in. So do that and you'll get your free skate sharpening there, adrenaline source or sports. Appreciate that. Are your boys on the ice at all right now, or are they actually having a summer? You're muted. I mute because of the tweetering. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:09:07 No, the younger two are off, but the oldest part of the reason we're in Buffalo, they've got the national shit going on. Nice. Awesome. Both of them?
Starting point is 00:09:16 No, just the oldest. Just the one. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, what do you mean? What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:09:21 The other two are? Nothing. No, I just assume it'll happen. Just that was. Very judgy. It's kind of judgy of you. No,
Starting point is 00:09:26 not judgy. Not judgy. Not judgy. What's the mood around Buffalo with the, I mean, the football stadium is brand new. the Sabres went on a playoff run. You just assume the bills are going to have another big year.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Must be high times in Buffalo. There's high excitement, high anxiety, some trepidation. I think everyone's like, okay, with the bills should be good. They got a new defensive coordinator.
Starting point is 00:09:53 They got a new D coach. Brought in some guys. They're trying to increase the pace that the D plays with apparently. Right. So, and the new stadium. I'm pumped.
Starting point is 00:10:04 People are not happy with ticket prices unless you had the tickets and are selling the tickets, then they're very excited with the ticket prices. That's wonderful. The Sabres,
Starting point is 00:10:20 nervousness. Most of the people are pretty smart about hockey and they're like, I don't know that we're worse, but we're probably not better going into this season. So they'll look different.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Yeah. Alex Huck is gone. Bo Byram's gone. I understand the changes that they've decided to make. We don't want to pay Byram 12 and a half to be our third or fourth defenseman. But are we better without him? Yeah. Are those kids that are coming up going to take some spots?
Starting point is 00:10:58 Are they going to be contributors? Zellwai. Are you, yeah, yeah. And how the hell do you get out of this division? Yeah. It's also another take where it's like, yeah, that's all fine and good. We had a hell of a year. It was lots of fun, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:11:17 I don't know how we're going to beat the other teams. Yeah, because we expect, you know, Florida is probably going to be back. And Toronto, they're going to try and go. And Boston made the playoffs. And Montreal was good. And Tampa Bay and Ottawa made the playoffs. Yeah, it's, it's going to be a fun one for sure, unless you actually care who wins.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yeah, then. I can sit here and be like, hey, go ahead, knock yourself, knock yourself out, fellas, knock yourself out. Did you guys talk about the Byram thing last week? I know you talked about the trade. Pinder was talking about the trade and all of that. I guess we did too, but the contract. I can't remember when it came out, but I think we did.
Starting point is 00:11:57 And again, it's kind of like the same what I just described with the fans of the Sabers, where it's like, I understand it. if I'm in Chicago, okay, well, what difference does it make? We've got all kinds of cap space. We don't have a number one defenseman. Is he the best defenseman in the league? Not by far.
Starting point is 00:12:12 But it's the best we got and it doesn't affect your cap space. Now, I wonder if Breyer is thrown a curveball to the rest of the GMs and going after Carlson. I think, yeah, I think. Right? Because it's the only way that this turns into, oh, maybe we don't have as much cap space as we thought. Yeah. If all of a sudden, I got all this cap space. This is great.
Starting point is 00:12:33 You know, unless prices go up. Yeah. Significant. And then they do. Oh. So the. Yeah. It's kind of exactly what's happening.
Starting point is 00:12:42 It's going to offend. For the flames right now, I don't know that it affects them because they've got lots of cap space, but they're not having to. To pay a high end player. But there's going to be a lot of teams who will be looking. Already we were starting with this two years out with what we heard from Werenzki and Kachuk and all of this. So instead of one year out, we've got to be two years out.
Starting point is 00:13:01 And now with this, we got to be ready for who do we have that's good that's potentially going to be a restricted free agent? You got a lot to keep an eye on now if you're a GM. Well, and if Bowen Byram's 12 and a half, and he's a good defenseman, other kids are going to start saying, yeah, I want in the 12 and a half neighborhood. You wouldn't have expected, right? Because it's a big overpay, I think. And then I wonder, like, I'm like, I don't know that Carlson would have signed. here, but why didn't you go off for him $20 million and give up your four first rounders?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Yeah. I would have done that. Well, the reports, yeah. I don't know if he'd signed here, but if you're off, I don't know how much the max is, give him 20. I don't give a shit. Because you're not going to get a number one. Yeah, because I know the reports were that some other teams,
Starting point is 00:13:49 there were what, four or five teams that, that we're in on it, Seattle believed to be one. Man, four first rounders is such a high price. Depends on where you think your team's going to be. And if you, I know, I'll be why it would be for the flames, even if it's this year where you don't, you're probably not going to be great. If you, the first overall pick, you finally pick first, you're picking the top three and you send it off. Granted, you, you would have Leo Carlson and that's, that's why you do it. But if they had, and I mean, we're just playing funzies.
Starting point is 00:14:20 If they had Leo Carlson in the mix today, how does that not change? You've got to think they're done on D. Yeah. their goal tendings pretty set. Yeah. What are they missing? They got a plethora of forwards. Yeah, they got wingers to no end.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, wingers, I mean. So you've got all kinds of wingers. And even if they aren't the best, if you're playing with a really number one center, then it changes the effectiveness that you can have in a game, or the poor production you're going to have. And they do have secondary centers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Right? So, you didn't sign here, so it's irrelevant. but it might change the approach for things. There was some kind of, and again, I'm just kind of going through. It sounded like there was, I think there's a belief that Anaheim is going to match. But you have to. There was talk that this morning, they might have done it. There were some websites that were showing him already as having signed with the new terms.
Starting point is 00:15:25 But it sure does seem to put Anaheim. I'm in a tough spot. It's funny how you go from, you know, here's Verbeek. He's a tight ass. He's a grinder. And that's good on him. That's a good way of being business. Players have enough clout and leverage.
Starting point is 00:15:42 When you have leverage over a player, you got to exercise that. And that's like, oh, shit. Well, that 18 million is more than 13 million. You probably could have had it for 13 million. And then this Mitchikov's, oh, shit, he's enough. he could be offer sheet eligible too. We better, now we're signing him for $7 million. Changes so fast.
Starting point is 00:16:04 And now with Cutter Goce, he's going to get paid. And Beckett Seneca is going to get paid. They're all of a sudden, you got real tough decisions to make even with a growing cap. Yeah. Again, I don't know what Anaheim's cap space or how they've planned it out, but it's certainly not this way. Like they're thinking they're in the driver's seat
Starting point is 00:16:25 because we've got the young kids, yep, we're going to pay them for sure. but it'll be reasonable and we can manage this. We're building. Now it's like, holy, yes, what are we? And there's plenty of guys. I like it. I like it.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You'd like to conduct, if you're going to pay the money, you'd like to do it on your terms. You hate somebody else dictating your terms of business, like Philadelphia. Here's what you're going to end up paying because we did this. Not even sure who. But for pure entertainment and for curveball, and for, I mean, I'm trying to think of long term, does that screw it up for everyone?
Starting point is 00:17:06 Yeah. Like, you know, you picture a team like Winnipeg. Like, they have to build. There's teams that have been built and they have success and they've done a good job of it. Does this change at all? I don't know. I don't know. I mean, maybe we're overacting to the rare occasion that this happens.
Starting point is 00:17:23 But it feels like this might be more common moving forward. Yeah, maybe we've said. I think we say that every time. Yeah, I wonder if we said the same thing when Aho signed and when Shea Weber signed with Philly and all that sort of thing. Gentle reminder for GMs, though. Tis, it is a gentle reminder. Not just taking care of your impending UFAs, because we've seen that basically, the UFA market kind of dwindles down because teams keep their own guys. Do you get to a point where it's the RFA market that's the more exciting thing to follow?
Starting point is 00:17:57 If you're a young player. So I might get paid when I'm 27 or 28 when I'm a UFA or offer sheets. What do we got? I'm not going to, I don't need to sign with my team if I have the ability to go RFA. Again, it's the elite players. It's the high end guys. But I guess it depends too. Does a team have the, they're going to pay you and give up four first round picks?
Starting point is 00:18:25 It's a big swing for Philly. I do give them credit. I assume they did it with the hopes and thinking they would get it done. Right? You wouldn't do it. I'm just going to F Anaheim. I don't think that's... No, I don't think it's a screw Anaheim thing.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Some people have brought that up, but I don't think... It's a lot of FU money for that, right? Yeah, I don't think it's an FU thing. I think they look at... Again, that's why I try to do it from the Flames perspective. And I'm like, it makes sense. If I'm a Flames fan and Conroy had went and got Leo Carlson to sign 18, 20 million, whatever it was, I really...
Starting point is 00:18:58 I realize that probably next year we'd be in a, there's a possibility you're giving up a good pick. But with Leo Carlson in the mix, are you finishing in the bottom five? I don't know if you are. And how do you get, and we saw this year, did we move up in the draft?
Starting point is 00:19:16 There's only two ways of getting those guys like this, or if you get a lottery ball. And if you were going to trade, you traded two firsts for Simone Nemich, who will talk about. So what would you, if you were going to trade for Leo Carlson anyway, what are you spending? It'd be more, but still. Capital Shev 13103 Lake Fraser Drive in the southeast, Calgary's truck destination.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Capital Shev keeping it deep over there. They got the trucks. They got the Cierras. They got the Silveradoes, the Denali's. They got the SUVs. They got everyday commuters, whatever it is you need over there. The $99 lease is a real thing. Ask them about it.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Big inventory, competitive pricing and a team that keeps. keeps it simple you walk in curious you leave confident it's good people i assume my buddy have you run into my buddy claire down at kukenusa when you've been down there haven't been down there much i got to get down there there there there you go it's trucks it's deals and no nonsense experience just the way calgary likes it capital shev capital shav dot ca a 13103 lake fraser drive in the southeast they had the mechanical bull and everything going there last week they like to have a good time i think i i it's been a long time since I've done the mechanical bull.
Starting point is 00:20:29 I think I was telling you when I was cleaning out the house last year, whatever, it's like, oh, there's my old rollerblades. I'm done rollerblading. My rollerblading career is done. I'm kind of,
Starting point is 00:20:39 I'm retired from that. I feel like my days as I sit here as a, uh, an aging gentleman, I'm not sure I'm ever going to ride a mechanical bull again. Just might be done with it. It's going to take a lot to get me on there. But I don't ever like to say never.
Starting point is 00:20:54 That's just for you. It's not who I am, for you. I appreciate that. That's what makes you a fun guy because you never know. You just never know. It's like Jack, getting out there, doing things.
Starting point is 00:21:06 That's right. Just a, just a wild man. Poor Jack. God, I don't know if it's poor Jack. Jack's making his own damn decisions. This is not a...
Starting point is 00:21:17 Are your buddies trying to get you to go out? Are you being lured or... Yes, I'm being lured. I'm 27. I've been to Stampede like 10, of the last years, and it's the same thing every time. It's like, I wanted to go to Montana. Nobody wanted to go to Montana.
Starting point is 00:21:33 I'm like, okay, I'm not going to St. Pete. Go by yourself. Go find, you know what? I'm going to pitch a tent. See, I don't know, are you? I feel like we're somewhat responsible. Because the way you say, you know, I'm 27. You're kind of using that with the frame of your, I've been there, done that. I'm getting, I'm an old guy now.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Yeah. It's more of a stampede thing. Like, I want to do things. It's just, I don't, like, I don't, I'm not eager to go to stampede. I've done it every summer. There's lots of lovely wives to find at Stampede. Go find a wife and settle down. Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:12 You like country music. You like having drinks. Yes. You're a real personality when you get gone. Come on. You know what it is? Self-control. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:25 You've got enough self-control to stay home and be. be a miserable. Prick. Why don't you just have enough self-control to go, okay, I've had eight, that's enough. I don't need 18. Yeah, I haven't learned that yet. It'll come around, Jack.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Neither. Well, I mean, Craig Conroy can go to the, go to Stampede. He can go to the lake. He can go do whatever he wants because, his work's done. They had the, they had the, the old draft. They had free agency.
Starting point is 00:23:00 They had their prospect camp. And he just got some, he got some business done. And now every, pretty much everybody that they planned on signing RFA's is this whole thing. It looks like the roster is intact for the coming season. The trade of the Coleman trade's done.
Starting point is 00:23:20 And now they've got. That was a boring trade, wasn't it? Well, you, yeah. I mean, I think it was a little bit it was a bit out of left field. Now, I know we talked about it. I felt like
Starting point is 00:23:34 there was a good chance that a Coleman deal gets done before the start of the season out of respect from the flames to Coleman. Now, I don't know if Coleman said, I would like you to trade me. But how much better is it for a guy with four kids? I'll go get us.
Starting point is 00:23:49 It's only one year left in the deal. But still, it'd be nice if I can get moved in the summer. We can get a place. kids are into schools, whatever we need to do. It would just be nice if that's the case. And my family can be with me instead of starting in Calgary and maybe we're moving, we don't know what's happening because there would be.
Starting point is 00:24:05 It would not that it would be a huge distraction. He can handle it. The team can handle it. But a lot of distraction. It's a lot of traction. It's a better thing. It's a better life decision for circumstance for him to go right now. I think it was not a favor.
Starting point is 00:24:21 But I think it was. I think Conroy did do it for that. Yeah. I would the flames have gotten more if they waited? I kind of watched you guys. I don't think there was going to be a first rounder coming to the flames and a Blake Coleman deal. We might be wrong. There's no way of ever known.
Starting point is 00:24:35 So you get a second, a third, and a fourth. And a player who, I like the player. I liked when he was in San Jose and moved to Minnesota, he felt like a guy the flames should get then. I don't know what kind of game. He's only 30. I think he's got some game left. And I think that the most recent viewing, talking about, of course, Jacob Middleton.
Starting point is 00:24:56 His playoff was not great. He was playing with Bogosia. And I don't know what that says. It's not a shot at Bogosian. I just wonder if you were, like those are two, Begossian's a heavy-footed guy at this point of his career. I don't know who Middleton will play with. I assume it's going to be somebody that's maybe got a little bit more mobility.
Starting point is 00:25:16 People rave about this guy, about Middleton, the guy. The guy's in the room. They loved him in San Jose. They loved him in Minnesota. he did kind of these, I forget what it is. They're like sitting in these, well, you might even have one. It's like a tent or something that you use for sweating. It's like a sauna.
Starting point is 00:25:35 And you sweat. It's like the hot ones chicken wings thing. So they would sit in these sweat boxes and he would ask questions to his teammates and stuff as they're like dying inside the. So I mean, he's a good guy. I think that there's going to be as much about losing Coleman the leader. you get some back here with this guy. I think he's a very,
Starting point is 00:25:56 he's a respected guy that, uh, the teammates love. Anyway, um, but at first blush, it was like, oh,
Starting point is 00:26:03 geez, I thought maybe, you didn't think there'd be a first, right? Yeah, okay. So, so,
Starting point is 00:26:06 so I don't know. It was, it was a weird one. It kind of caught, caught me a little bit by surprise too. You let it sit and marinate. It's fine. I don't care about the deal.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Yeah. Yeah. I care about the deal, but I'm not judgmental of the deal. I just felt like it was like, oh. because it was built up in Calgary as a more such an integral and he was but it just was like okay bye and it's over. And maybe we get to the point in the season where there is somebody like Strom or whatever that look like they're going to be trade bait come deadline time.
Starting point is 00:26:43 But this will be the first time in a while for Conroy. He's not keeping an eye on a Hannafin or an Anderson or whoever. Now maybe White Cloud is a guy. I don't know. But there's no big, obvious impending UFA that we're going to be keeping our eyes on, I don't think. So the news is Simone Nemich got his deal done. They made the big swing for him a couple weeks ago. He was a restricted free agent, needed a deal. He's played three years in the league, so he was ready coming out of his entry level. They sign it to a five-year contract extension. It kicks in this year at 7.25.
Starting point is 00:27:19 Now, without talking to the player and the agent and all of this sort of thing, we were only left to guess. And we wonder what's what's it going to be. And the word coming out of New Jersey, again, could be innuendo and rumor. He looked around at the other D on his teams. I'm going to want all the money. I'm going to want nine million is what I'm wanting. Pay me. Max term, you know, Max term, all the money.
Starting point is 00:27:42 This is not Max term. It buys one year of unrestricted free agency. And it's not nine million. at 7.25. This feels like it's a bridge of sorts, but I, I'm fine with the term
Starting point is 00:27:58 and the dough, I think. We'll see as we get to watch this player. I always, I give GM's credit in a way. That's, you're buying something you've never used. It's like buying a tool or buying, hey, here's a new guitar.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Can I play it? No. You can look at it. it though it sounds great okay um i'd sure love to at least hold it and see how it feel you got to pay full freight so it's seven seven and a quarter he's but he's 22 years old i i like the deal i think it's a fine compromise between paying over nine and eight seven years or let's do two years or three and see how it goes i i think it's good work for both both sides how old's ball and byron 25 a couple years older. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Drafted in the same sort of realm. Yeah. I think it's a good deal. I think it works. And again, I wonder if the Breer thing has played into it where it's like the bridging and the this and of that. Well, if he's that good, you're going to get. Yeah. So I think he's got to be happy.
Starting point is 00:29:11 He's making some good money. Maybe not as much as he hoped. But he's set up. I like the deal for the flames. I'm trusting that that kid is at least a two, three. Yeah. And even in today's value or world, that's a four. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:30 That money's a four defenseman, a four or five even maybe. Like it's not outlandish money for a kid that's got that much upside. Yeah. I do agree. You could be a top four making seven, seven and change, seven two, five. And no one's going to be, who, this is a huge overpay. If anything, this feels like it will be a good value and you may have to pay. But again, I kind of just, this feels good to me.
Starting point is 00:29:59 This feels like a, this feels like a common sense for both sides. So you know, you go on social media to see what other people, how they're reacting. Yeah, it's pretty, pretty level-headed for the player. You're being well-paid. And I do wonder if there was a bit of show of faith from, well, not so much for the show of faith. is this is the player saying, you know what, you paid up for me. A couple first rounders.
Starting point is 00:30:22 I was in New Jersey. I was kind of, you know, I was back of the bus a little bit. You ship out two firsts. The door is wide open for me to play here. Power play all of this. There's some other guys in the mix, of course. But it does feel like there was a show of good faith here from the player as well.
Starting point is 00:30:39 It gets done relatively early in the summer. And it's not obviously for crazy though. I think both sides were, sounds like they're or looks appears like they're happy and content to be working together on this. So go get them. Yeah. Conno.
Starting point is 00:30:55 He's doing too good a job. There's no stress right now. He's. I know. In New York being a lazy bastard. Yeah, because he's, he got this done. It was the one big thing that you and you did. You wonder. Just because he's played so little, but was a second overall pick and all,
Starting point is 00:31:12 who, this could be a, this could be a real bugger. Got it done. found away? I mean, it's because he's so nice. Might be. I do. I think it's what you said. I think the kid wanted to go to a situation where he felt wanted. I don't know if you sensed that. And again, we're in a million miles away from it. Maybe it's all a bunch of BS we're making up. But it does have that kind of feel where it's like, finally, I'm at an organization where I went from being popular and now we got these other
Starting point is 00:31:39 guys and they're taking all my eyes. Nobody gives a shit about how I'm doing. Screw it. Get me out of here. And now I'm in a spot. Good. Thank you. I'll show. Let me do it. Because he doesn't need to sign now. He could look at it and say seven and a quarter five years. Okay, thanks. I'm going to go boating. All day, every day, whenever I want. He doesn't need to sign it today, but he does get it done.
Starting point is 00:32:01 So it does. There's some blue liners, retro. They've got some guys on the back end, on the right side, these right-handed guys, Nemich, White Cloud, Perek, and Pahel. And then for left shots, ball, Middleton, Hanley, and Kuznetso. and then you've got Bristevich, who we want to be on this team. So in the way that Conroy's work is done, it's not totally done.
Starting point is 00:32:25 There's some decisions that still need to be made, but you're on mute. There's nothing major sitting on Connie's plate, keeping him up at night. No, no. He'll be up by you. Are you going? I should pop over.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Well, he called. He wants to hang out. Oh, I see. Yeah. Yeah. We're to talk some business. Nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:48 You got to call. You'll be harder to. sign the than Nemich in the end. Yeah. Yeah. It's a big dough. It's a big dough.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Outdoor dental. If you've got, you know, if you got great big something, maybe that's what Jack's doing. Maybe he's sitting at home. He's, I would go out,
Starting point is 00:33:04 but I've got this, I got this toothache that I got going. I'm not sleeping great because of my apnea and all this. All you need to do, Jack, is go and see Dr. J. Patel at outdoor dental. What are you waiting for?
Starting point is 00:33:15 The Solaya laser. It's right there. Advanced Dental technology. If there was better technology out there, Dr. Jay would get it. This is top of the line. They've got 3D printing for your appliances,
Starting point is 00:33:29 night guards, Invisal line. They've got this CBCT imaging for more active diagnosis and stuff. The Salaya laser. It's like they're building spaceships over there. I was in there. They did all that stuff. I could see my chair.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I was really impressed with my jaw structure. He was. or you were? I was. Okay, else gave a shit. Snoring treatment. That's a laser. It's simple. It's painless. It's the gentle tension in the soft palate. It reduces snoring.
Starting point is 00:34:02 You're sleeping deeper. You're sleeping longer, better, feeling better. It's all worth it. There's a lot going on over there. Outdoor.dental is the website. Go and see our buddy, Dr. J. Patel. Make a part of your summer plans. What else is going on? Sammy Stampede is on. The hockey world is
Starting point is 00:34:20 going to start slowing down. Jason Robinson is not a Seattle Cracken. He's not a Dallas Star. What about this Columbus shit? Like, nothing to see here. What are you guys talking about? This is embarrassing, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:34:37 Like, I don't know if it's embarrassing is the right word, but I'm blown away by this. I'm like, so you're going to carry on as if nothing's. Nothing to see here. Nothing. We're going to type up a couple press release. leases. We're going to send them out. And then you guys can just leave us alone because there's nothing, there's nothing
Starting point is 00:34:54 going on. She didn't have a sleep over at that guy's house. No. What are you talking about? No. Just to cut, just quick shut eye. Nothing happened. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, Dean. Yeah. If you don't know what we're talking about, last week when we're doing shows
Starting point is 00:35:10 and leading up to free agency, well, these, all these players with two years left, you know, Zach Werensky's got two years left and he's kind of said, don't think he's going to re-sign. Well, there are they going to go. The Leafs will. on them. Tampa Bay's preferred destinations, all this sort of thing. And then we had a talk. And actually, you guys are all wrong.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Zach, you tell them. Okay. Well, I love Columbus. And it's been my home for 10 years. And okay. Okay. Fair enough. Right from the time it started to come out when Don Waddell did the, yeah, we'll talk after the draft. We'll talk later. It's weird. Because if he's going to get traded, you might want some draft picks and there's a draft in 48 hours. Are you going to maybe take advantage of that?
Starting point is 00:35:59 So I don't know. It doesn't mean that it's not real or it's dishonest or anything, but it's a weird one for sure. Because it went. Now, at the same time, Columbus was not trying to build a trade market. They did just sit there and watch everybody else talk about them, to be fair. Yeah. So you're right. they weren't out there, I don't think, but I thought they were getting railroaded by the players.
Starting point is 00:36:24 And then it was like, well, what's going on here? And I still believe that. Maybe they did have a conversation and they cleared the air a little bit. I don't, it's just odd. It's just a very odd situation. There's no effing way. Werensky's there three years from now. No chips.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Yeah, I. Unless they're going to win a cup. And then he'll be, oh, this is the greatest thing ever. and they're not going to win a cup. So good luck. It won't look great on him because he did come out and he had this thing. I've been in Columbus for 10 years and it's my home and I love it here, this whole sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:37:01 I'm open to. Why do they have trade for him? Anyway. Yeah, I don't know. In a way, I hope that he does stay now. I wanted him to stay because I don't want these teams to get run through the mud. I think, yeah, you draft a guy, you give him an opportunity. He does a great job for him.
Starting point is 00:37:19 for you. It's a good city. Yeah. Is it the best city? No, but it's, and you're trying to build something? And all of a sudden,
Starting point is 00:37:29 you're a star Norris trophy guys. I was getting, I was actually getting annoyed with the guys because it's like, okay, enough. It's all fine and good that you have control over your career or get some say in this. It's also an honor and a privilege to be able to play in the league. Because it's not like that one,
Starting point is 00:37:48 if he does stay, It's not like one puts the brakes on, but I feel the same way. Because if we saw in the course of however many months, you've got this offer sheet, you've got Kachuk leaving, Quinn Hughes leaves, all different scenarios.
Starting point is 00:38:02 But then if Werensky also leaves with two years left, it's like we're into super team territory, depending on where he went. It's just all these teams are loading up for guys and how do you, I don't think anybody, unless you're a fan of the team that gets these guys. Yeah. But if you're not
Starting point is 00:38:20 Throw the Robertson thing in there where he said no to a team That's right. I want to get paid. Okay, well, we've got a team that will pay you what you want and we've got a deal. No, I'm not going there.
Starting point is 00:38:32 No, I'm not. I don't want to go there. Okay. Yeah. It was getting to be a bit much. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 00:38:39 And then I guess more recently, the reports, Kiro Marchenko, the big Russian winger is like, oh, he's going to want to. sounds like he's sticking around. So I don't know what kind of team
Starting point is 00:38:51 Bones is going to have Boon Jenner left in free agency. They've got some guys signed there. They were a good team. They were a good team, but the interview again, all of it, I don't want to talk about Columbus for too long, but you throw what Bones said at the end of the year, into the mix,
Starting point is 00:39:07 and you go, what the hell's going on in Columbus? Yeah. They need those guys. I don't know why I care about, like we can move on. but if Werenski leaves, it may as well be, just,
Starting point is 00:39:21 why do you have a team there? Why, why bother it? Just, just, just, just move on out. We'll do the Pinder report.
Starting point is 00:39:31 He's in Saskatchewan, I believe. Have you heard what's going on out there? Like out by, uh, by my, by my hometown and all that. Wobema? It is,
Starting point is 00:39:41 it's not, I'm not from Hobema. Um, out in Manitoba, the, the, the, the water.
Starting point is 00:39:46 is being a real son of a gun. It's washing out roads and crops and people are underwater and basements. We had people last week that live in Calgary, but have family back there had to, they drove back because there was three feet of sewage in their parents' basements. Mother nature's being a bit of a bee. That's, yeah, for that part of the world.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Major detours to get from point A to point B, which is only a couple miles. You're doing 30 minutes of driving or 45 minutes of driving to get around because all the roads are washed out and stuff. Beautiful country though, Dean. T's and peas. Boy, the bugs are bad, though. Bugs are bad.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Yeah, D.U.G said they'd carry away. Yeah. That's a lot, but. Yeah. Our buddy Dregs, he was going back to his cabin. They said, yeah, we had to drive another 40 minutes, get around the water. The water's right up under the bridge.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Might be over the bridge here right away. The dam's spilling over. I can't make sense of it, Dean. I'm not a horticulturist, so I don't know if it's good or bad. maybe that's needed for the I don't that feels like it's too much maybe too much yeah it feels like it's a little bit too much
Starting point is 00:40:55 a little bit too much Jack are you still there I'm here yeah yeah sitting in the sitting in the closet in the broom closet over there still haven't come out of the closet dean you uh you went to the football game last week yes we did it was lots of fun retro
Starting point is 00:41:16 yeah because we haven't uh we have not spoken since the big night for the for the boys oh man VA seven touchdowns are you kidding me stampeters put on a clinic they just they they should have something some kind of a gimmick for every for every game stampede bowl the two and all they hung a licking on the the argonauts and you were there I was there every my dumb buddies were there they were they were yelling and screaming retro was there Retro, you were there, bud. I was there.
Starting point is 00:41:50 They were wound up. Greg, oh, I had my youngest and a couple buddies with me. They were all jacked up because there was a big party going on. There was a boulder ride, being. There was a boulder ride. Oh, nice. Yeah, and then I absolutely stuffed my face with potato salad and pulled pork and pulled beef. So it was like, ooh.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Yeah. I'm here. I'm, I need. to be on my couch. Yeah. And then Jack and his buddies, entertaining as always, acting like idiots. Pinder was trying to put on a show, but was useless. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:29 I talked a lot to Pike, sadly, and Gould. It was annoying. I saw a little bit of Bob Germany, but I don't know if he was mad at me or something. Oh, no. Yeah. And the stamps, absolutely snoghubble. Yeah. Absolutely pumped him.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Nice. Jack's buddies are a unique brand. of people. See, you know, I think Jack's rude, because if I had friends like that, I would go out all the time. All the time. And especially if they're trying to get you out.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Yeah, that's a good friend. They know you're sitting at home picking your nose. They want better for you, Jack. I know they do. They have my best interest. Be like me is what they're saying. Yeah. We like them. So big thanks to Greg over at Bontan meets.
Starting point is 00:43:16 He hosted our tailgate party there last week in advance of the Stampede Bowl. Bontan meets it's the look July is going to be sweet. Kind of sucked in June. Not that it's all weather dependent, but if you're if you're just going by the, I'm just going to run over to the store
Starting point is 00:43:32 over here and grab some stakes. You deserve better than that. You deserve better than that. Greg put on a show for us. He'll put on a show for you. It's the best of the best. Has been for about a hundred and whatever, 110 years, 105 years. 25 years.
Starting point is 00:43:49 25 plus years Southern Alberta and Calgary's Consumer's Choice Award winner for Best Meat in Delhi Bontan Meat Market, 28, Crowfoot Circle in the Northwest. Some local yokel joke outfit here in Buffalo what was it?
Starting point is 00:44:09 20 ribbyes for $40 and I'm like, what kind of garbage are you signing up for? Yeah. It was a truck on the side of the road. I'm like, ooh, this is dangerous. Yeah. There needs to be some sort of quality control going on here.
Starting point is 00:44:26 How was summer? Well, it was good until about that first or second week of July when I. July 4th, I really went for it. The meat wagon on the side of the road. Yeah. Grab some ribbyes. It's not taver corn. You don't want your meat off of a roadside trucker.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Extra special cheap ribbyes off the, out of the truck. Yeah. Oh, fellas. Well, we're going to do the Pender Report here in a moment. Do we want to do a message now, Jack? Do you want to do a message? Sure. All right.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Here's a message from Air, B&B. Well, it's getting closer. FIFA World Cup 2026, everybody getting together. You can feel the energy. People are pumped up. The bars, everybody is going to be jacked. And it's coming to Canada. I'm excited to see footy fans take over Vancouver and Toronto
Starting point is 00:45:20 and I'm super pumped to see Canadians embrace our team at FIFA World Cup 2026. I know I'll be one of those people crowded around the screens at restaurants and bars cheering on the matches this summer. I love that vibe. When the windows are open and you're cheering and you can hear your neighbors cheering and everybody's kind of rooting for the same team, that same cause, it's hard to beat. I can remember watching Portugal and Italy play on College Street in Toronto incredible fans delis cafes jerseys France ends up winning the tournament they're celebrating pouring out of a French restaurant cars are honking flags are waving nothing beats the fandom I know a lot
Starting point is 00:46:00 of people are going to the games Airbnb no better way to do it you get everybody together you get a nice spot everybody comes together to watch the games when it's game time food going in the kitchen kids are running around cheering running out into the streets It's getting closer. I'm pumped for it. I totally agree. Certainly, really exciting months coming this summer. I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Airbnb, the world is meant to meet. How's the FIFA going down there? I know yesterday it was a bit of a bummer. They're not happy with that goaltender or the output. Yeah. But I don't know if they were the better team. I'll be honest, I've watched a lot after the kind of the first round robin stuff. I've paid more attention to it.
Starting point is 00:46:47 And it's been pretty entertaining. That Mexico, England game was unbelievable. It was awesome. Last night, it was drinking a lot, so paid a little less attention, but watched the goalie flub, and it was like the American, my American pals were not impressed. They don't like not winning. They're very arrogant.
Starting point is 00:47:09 Yeah, the weird that way. Yeah. Love winning. We're American. Yeah. You've gone and effed it up, bud. Yeah. they, it didn't feel close.
Starting point is 00:47:21 And again, I, I'm not a student of the game. But, yeah, the flub, as you mentioned, because we were having dinner and the game was on in the background with the volume off and I was, that doesn't look, that looks okay. Yeah, it's in. Is that a real goal? Why didn't you kick the ball? Why didn't you, you're the goalie. Can you just grab it or kick it or what do you? Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Look. Well, that's, that feels like a big goal right now. that's three to one now. There was and there was and is a lot of chatter down here about the dawn making his presence felt. Yeah. I bet. They love it.
Starting point is 00:48:01 Not everybody loves him, but they didn't mind that move. Yeah. Well, we'll talk about that. I feel like that's our FIFA coverage. But it's time for the Pinder report. It's a presentation of Village Honda. Now, you. might have a show, but you got a show and shine.
Starting point is 00:48:21 You know what I mean? Anybody could put a show on, but it's the sixth annual Honda and Accura show and shine coming up August and from noon till 4 on the 22nd of August. And all you need to do is go online. Register your vehicle at village honda.com. Maybe you just want to go and see the beautiful, uh, the beautiful machinery celebrating Calgary's automotive community with the afternoon of impressive. some builds, favorites and modified rides.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Just enjoy the show. Everybody's welcome. They got awards for best in show, best modified, best classic vehicle registration, just $10. That'll go to charity, which is a kid's sport, helping kids get out there
Starting point is 00:49:01 and playing the organized sports. Learn more, village honda.com. And of course, if you're in the market for a new or used, pre-owned Honda or whatever it is, villagehonda.com, go see Anthony.
Starting point is 00:49:14 I feel by now, he can see big Nethelins fan. Netherlands been out for a little bit, so he's probably approachable by now. He's a sweet boy. We'll take a look at the Pinder report. Do I need to play the thing when there's no Pinder? All right. We talked about it.
Starting point is 00:49:33 We'll get into the Flames. This is where we'll start the website, Flamesnation.ca. If you're ever like, I've been away for a little bit. I wonder what's going on with the Flames. There's been signings and do trades. What have been doing? You just go to Flamesnation.C. Check it out.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Actually, I forgot to send that in. didn't I, Jack? What else if I got in here? There was a couple things I was going to send in. I don't think it's out of the more. Jack can't handle it anyways. You're probably right. Yeah, you're probably right.
Starting point is 00:49:56 Ryan Pike, he has his opinion on the Nemich signing. He says the flames have all sorts of flexibility after signing, Simone Nemich to that sort of deal. So you can learn more at Flamesnation.ca. Yes, Nemich is a flame. He is, he's got himself. now we like the deal for the kid coming out of entry level
Starting point is 00:50:20 you start making $7.25 million dollars there was probably some champagne corks flying I would think 22 years of age it buys one year of UFA status so that's good for the flames a modified 10 team
Starting point is 00:50:36 no trade clause in year five so flexibility there as well last year 26 points 11 goals and 68 games but it feels like we will get to learn a little bit more as to what this player really is coming up this season. Flames were also, now that was this prior to the Nemich deal, we talked about centers,
Starting point is 00:50:54 Mason McTavich, would you have paid for Mason McTavich what you did for Nemich? And it sounds like, according to Eric Francis, that they were in on McTabich, but couldn't put together a deal or an offer better than what St. Louis did because they got them in the end, picks 15 and 29,
Starting point is 00:51:09 and of course the flames had six and 30, and they didn't want to trade six. Tough. So if you're wondering, well, how come the flames aren't in on that? Sounds like they were in on that. And I wouldn't have minded of getting in on it. But I would be more excited about a Carlson than a McTavish. Oh, for sure. Yeah. I mean, yeah, that for sure. But I guess if they offered the two picks that they did, the first of Colorado and Vegas, if they offered those for McTavish, I guess if you had to pick one, would you've rather had McTavish or would you rather have Nemich? because I do wonder if that was offered. I'd rather have Nemich. Well, no, not now, not knowing that we got Carols.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Yeah. Remember, right? Like that's kind of the other thing where it's like, well, we don't know what we're going to end with from a draft perspective. Yeah. Anyway. You mentioned Leo Carlson. As we sit here and we do this taping today, we're still sitting and waiting.
Starting point is 00:52:12 The Philadelphia Flyers kicked the door in a offer. sheet to Leo Carlson, five years, 18 million per season, heavily front-loaded. If Anaheim does not choose to match, they will get four first-round picks, but he is a huge player for them. He is one of their best players. They have many good young players, but Olin Zellwiger was traded out, and he was not playing a ton, but still he was one of their young prospects, one of their young guys. to lose Leo Carlson would be
Starting point is 00:52:45 would be a serious blow. It doesn't mean they have to wait for all four of these first rounders. They can take them and trade them as the flames did and as teams have been doing. But it's a bit of a pickle. And we talked about it already on the show. We don't need to go too deep into it. It's going to change either way.
Starting point is 00:53:02 Leo Carlson is going to get paid this year. He signed the contract. It's just a matter of, is it checks? Do you still get paper checks? Do you think? I don't think so. What's the logo in the top? Is it the Ducks logo or the Flyers logo?
Starting point is 00:53:13 It's going to say $18 million this year. Boy, that's a lot of dope. I would take that, just one. Yeah. I want one of those checks. Give me a check. I would think as the player, your agent's probably, well, we got a chance. I'm going to get some money.
Starting point is 00:53:29 Okay, yeah, well, we'll wait and see. I believe you, Mr. Agent. I believe you. But then finally it comes in. Okay, remember we were telling you that there might be a big offer. This one is $18 million per. is it real? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:46 Well done. Oh, oh my God. Pen. Pen, pen, pen, pen, pen. So we're getting down to it. We'll find out if he's going to be, it's like we say,
Starting point is 00:53:56 it feels like the ducks are going to, are going to pay it. But it might change up the way they're going to have to do business. And already it feels like it's going to change how a number of teams are going to be doing business moving forward. Claude Drew is going back to Ottawa. He signs a one-year deal. It's a $2 million cap hit.
Starting point is 00:54:13 He's got bonuses in place to make an additional $3 million. Had 49 points and 14 goals in 82 games. He had zero points in the playoffs, as did a lot of members of the senators in that first round. Tough. Speaking of the senators, they are without Brady Kachuk because he was dealt to Florida. And then they've traded some of those.
Starting point is 00:54:41 picks, but Elliot Friedman, who is, who is, we love El, we love Freach, he was on his final 32 Thoughts podcast this week and was talking more about this deal. And he said he actually had somebody reach out from the senators. His Friedman's quote, I did have someone who reached out to me, one of the players, he said, the podcast caused some problems and it was just time. Now, the podcast he's talking about is the Kachuk podcast. He and his brother Matthew, they do a podcast. During the season, off season, they do the thing. Stupid.
Starting point is 00:55:15 And yeah, I don't think if they didn't do a podcast that the trade didn't happen, I don't know. But we did here after, and it's again, it's after the fact. And is it sour grapes? Is it bullshit? Is it whatever? That some of the guys in the room aren't going to be crushed to see Brady going on. This is when they had their old man Keith on. And they were talking, this is about the time.
Starting point is 00:55:37 I think that Allmark was, wasn't playing back-to-back game. that they had some injuries and Keith clearly kind of taken a bit of a run at maybe the durability of not just the senators necessarily but today's player I broke my wrist or something in the olympics so yes that's what happened to play through injuries guys holy christ this whole team my pinky hurts I'm out for six days that was coming at I knew right when he said that I'm like don't say it I just had a bad sleep so I can't play today Oh my God, disgusting. All right, well, we're going to move on here. Can't play back to back.
Starting point is 00:56:19 So, mess management. That is crazy. I mean, back to back, that used to not be whatever. Grant Fureer played 70 games in one year. I think 72. So, again, there's two sides to it. Keith is saying, you know, players a little bit soft. Now, if you're a senator player and you hear that and you're easily offended by it,
Starting point is 00:56:38 it's like, maybe it's because you're soft. But. you would be sitting there thinking this guy's this guy's going to be leaving now he's kind of shit talking our guys where's the senator's stuff well what it was is they were talking is because the senators were missing oh no no no i'm saying where's oh on the set yeah yeah i just i i understand what they're doing because they're going to grow their brand and they're probably brilliant and it's part of the social media movement and i'm not part of it and i'm an idiot and people say you should do that should they probably have a game plan they probably have a PR person and they're probably
Starting point is 00:57:15 going to make a jillions of dollars which they already are and they're probably thinking past career we're building their brother to me that looks I don't even want to say if I'm going to be honest it looks extremely arrogant for the kichucks to have their dad I get it they're all played in the NHL and there's this and there's that if me and my brother played in the NHL we're not going to have my dad on to talk about yeah I don't I don't I don't uh do what you will clearly you're going to and you've had more success that i ever will so maybe i'm just jealous i think it's a poor look yeah and and back to the the sins and losing brady we said it at the time and it wasn't about i don't i don't i don't think that that trade doesn't happen
Starting point is 00:58:03 or does happen because of the podcast but it just had to feel where it was like i i think a lot of those guys in Ottawa would be just fine with Brady going somewhere else and playing hockey. As good as he is, if you're a captain's not bought in and you know it and you do know it, we're near in those rooms. So I think we said it at the time and it's clearly true. It seems, yeah, it does seem like it's true. And whether it's sour grapes or whatever in hindsight, it doesn't change the fact that it's not sour.
Starting point is 00:58:34 It's a kiss my ass move where it's like, oh, so you're too good for us. Good, get the hell out of here. Yeah. Other things, NHL-wise, we kind of talked about Jason Robertson. He is, there's 15 players, I think, that elected for salary arbitration.
Starting point is 00:58:52 So those things are going to, they think they start, they have the meetings. And a lot of them get figured out. They'll, the players and the agents, they'll figure some things out with the teams before they go in there.
Starting point is 00:59:04 I don't know how this Robertson wants to go. This is a lot like Columbus to me, where it's weird. how much do you want? You clearly don't want to leave, but you want all the money and they think they're in the neighborhood and no one's offering you.
Starting point is 00:59:18 Can't he be offer sheeted? I don't know. I think once you elect for arbitration, I know, prior. Yeah. Could you like, I don't,
Starting point is 00:59:28 I don't know the, I don't know the CBA well enough, but it's like, all I was trying to compare was, you're not Leo Carlson clearly, because nobody's coming around going, hey, we want.
Starting point is 00:59:41 aren't you. Yeah. I don't know. That's messy in Dallas as well. For a franchise that looked like they're in a great spot, yes, the Robertson thing was going to be tough to get done just because of their cap space. But now you've got the Harley stuff out there. A lot of people are taking shots at Jim Nill and his handling.
Starting point is 01:00:00 And I'm going, what's Robertson doing? He's handcuffing these guys to the nth degree. And it's arbitration. And maybe they should have just shut up the guns. Yeah, great. Go to arbitration. Yeah. I wonder what it's like for Harley,
Starting point is 01:00:15 because all of this happens and, well, Harley and Maverick Bork were believed to be going the other way. Now they did trade Maverick Bork. Now Harley's sitting around there. You get over it. I think that you have to, I mean, it depends on every individual, but I would imagine he's mature enough to go, well, yeah, I'm a good player.
Starting point is 01:00:31 That's exactly, if you're going to make, you're going to give something up. Yeah. So I don't think it in the long run. I don't think he's going to Dallas. I'm not going to play hard for you. Yeah, I know. And if he is, then move him.
Starting point is 01:00:45 Like, speaks to your character. Yeah, you get over it if need be the tender people. Let me look at Jack. I mean, Thomas Harley is making 10, I just want to call it 10.587 million a season in Dallas. You okay, but you're right. You can take your 10.5 million in Texas and be good with it. I think you'll be just fine. Other stuff going on.
Starting point is 01:01:12 I saw this one this morning. I just, when you think of Daniel Alfredson, you think of the Ottawa Senators. He was, you know, synonymous with the Sends. He is going to join the Toronto Maple Leafs coaching staff. Kind of weird.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Really? Yeah. Michael Andlauer, the owner of the senators, released a statement early this morning. One of the first moves we made, Daniel Alfredson, in December 23.
Starting point is 01:01:41 While I wish he wasn't joining an arch rival, Alfie is forever an Ottawa senator and the door will always be open for his return. He's done so much for our organization and community. He has my full respect. So how could you do it, Daniel? How could you do it? That's all.
Starting point is 01:02:00 I would be a little surprised. I've got to think that they do like him enough in Ottawa and basically, but maybe there's no spots on the staff. He felt like a sin for life. Yeah. An associate coach is what they're calling him. You couldn't go talk to Green?
Starting point is 01:02:19 Well, that's what I was saying. You step on on his, is that you can't approach Travis Green to talk about, I don't know. Whatever, folks. Whatever. We talked about Zach Werenski and Columbus, Allswell, that ends well. Nothing to see here. They're moving on. Alex Ovechkin is coming back for at least another season.
Starting point is 01:02:38 I don't know if that was news last week when you guys did the show, but he's coming back. The NHL will release its schedule for the upcoming season. The 84 game, regular season. We'll find out who's playing where and what and against who. Next Wednesday, they'll trot out the opening night matchups, and then on the 16th, the full schedule will be announced. 84 games per team, two additional divisional games per team.
Starting point is 01:03:07 84. a lot of games I don't know if it's a little early for flames predictions I don't know I think we probably I want to see schedule first dean see who they're playing who are those extra two games against I got yeah we talked about the stamps it's the year of the horse red
Starting point is 01:03:33 you know that 5836 at the stampede bull Vernon Adams record books 20 of 25 405 yards, six touchdowns. Also scrambled for a 22-yarder. Seven on the day. Five-way tie for most passing touchdowns in Stamps. History.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Peter Liskey, Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickinson, the all-time greats. So an exciting one. Jack has still only seen, he's only with his own eyes, at McMahon, has only seen the stamps lose once. What's your all-time record there now? We're four-in-one now. Four and one.
Starting point is 01:04:11 Yes, sir. Numbers speak for themselves. Staps are on the road. They'll visit the 3-1 Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. That's a 5 o'clock mountain start. It's always tough going into Montreal for some reason, Red. I don't know why. Seems like when teams go to Vancouver, Roxy,
Starting point is 01:04:27 tough to get wins there and you go to Montreal, Shaperie. It's sometimes there too. It's tricky. There's definitely distractions. It's definitely distractions. You've got to stay focused. Stay on top of them.
Starting point is 01:04:40 Yeah. radiation, constipation. All of it. All those things. Our buddy bowl, Levi Mitchell, he was carted off the field early in the third quarter on Sunday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A ankle injury, he underwent surgery on Monday morning.
Starting point is 01:05:00 The 36-year-old has had an unbelievable start to the season. That's an unbelievable career. Already 1100 passing yards, nine touchdowns, one pick through four games this season. but it feels like the season may well be over for our buddy beau. Is that the Katie Cowboy? Is that what he's? Yeah, he's from Katie, Texas. The old gunslinger, Rhett?
Starting point is 01:05:21 Yeah. I hope that's not it. You're going to reattach some ligaments with that surgery, maybe a couple screws in a pin or plate. He wasn't really a scrambler to begin with, you know? He was more of a pocket passer. So maybe, maybe he's still got the arms, the arms still got it.
Starting point is 01:05:40 He's still got it. I got a feeling when that guy's done, he'll do a lot like Dave and move into the, or maybe the media stuff. I think it's media stuff, yeah. That's a good point by you. He's done that before.
Starting point is 01:05:50 Yeah, maybe if I'm Davis Sanchez or somebody, I'm shaking in my, my boots because he will be, he will be a sought after guy. Maybe he'll want to do Barnburner. Hey? Then he's taking one of our spots.
Starting point is 01:06:03 Then we'll be a other. Please. What do I open my big fat mouth? Idiot. Stupid. Yes, the FIFA World Cup. The Portugal is done. And it's, was it, Rinaldo?
Starting point is 01:06:19 Could be his last game. Could be. I think it is. Yeah, he's going to be done. Rather attractive, I'm told. He's a handsome gent. The Spaniards move on after a 1-0 win. And Belgium, as we mentioned, laid the cleats to the Americans by a score of 4 to 1 in the round of 16. Be interested to see what kind of excitement level.
Starting point is 01:06:43 remains moving forward. Because it was, the Americans love a winner. There was a lot of hype on the U.S. media and everywhere about what was going on with that soccer team, but we'll see how it goes now. And I know we don't hear a lot about them this year on the Pinder reports, and it might be just a coincidence. Pinders got a lot going on in his life.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Haven't heard a lot about the Blue Jays as of life. Odd. Yeah. The Jays yesterday were beaten 10-1 by San Francisco. The Jays are seven games below 500. Kazuma Akamoto homered in the sixth inning yesterday for that only run. That ended a stretch of 29
Starting point is 01:07:24 innings without a run. 29, so that's two games. 29, no runs. They have lost 10 of 13. How's that Vladdy doing? He's been good, right? No. Oh, no, no.
Starting point is 01:07:40 Why? Is he still stuck at four home runs? Four? Four? Only four more than me and you. When the hell is the All-Star break? It's coming, yeah. And he's not going to take part in that.
Starting point is 01:07:55 They're only three and a half back from Wildcard, Dean. That would be poor to take. They're three and a half back. There's lots of games to play. Half a season. Good for you. Good for you. Let's see.
Starting point is 01:08:07 Part of me hates it because, you know, you enjoy how, you enjoy how, easy the conversation is when he's not around, but it's like, it's just different. I actually don't like the fact that Jay sucked because they were fun to watch last year. Yeah, it's no win. A lot of hope. Way more fun when, uh, when they're good. Yeah. And, um, just in the end, just, I hate seeing Jack the way he, uh, the way it's going.
Starting point is 01:08:39 Stampede is here. Summer is here. We've been talking about hot Jack. I don't even talk about all this, and it doesn't seem like he's really taking advantage. Part of me feels maybe responsible. I don't know. I did this on the weekend. Then I forgot to post it, but it is Stampede time after all.
Starting point is 01:08:58 Let's go. Hey, you buddies, it's boom. A little summer update for you. Hope you're having a great one so far. It's early July. But, you know, we deserve it. June kind of sucked for weather. Anyway, it is here.
Starting point is 01:09:13 It is a beautiful day. It is Saturday. it is like 1.40 p.m. The first weekend of the Cary Stampede, Rodeo, Chucks, Midway, food, tents,
Starting point is 01:09:25 music, concerts. Let's go. I hear a lot of people they always talk about, you know what? It's a lot. I don't know if I got enough for the stampede. I don't know if I can do it. I don't know what they're talking about. So it's 140 in the afternoon myself. I love Stampede. I can't wait to get there.
Starting point is 01:09:42 I mean, it's not going to be today because it's, Saturday. It's like 1.40 p.m. So, anyway, happy stampede, everybody. It's pacing. It's got to pace yourself. You're on mute, bud. You can't stay out all night if you don't get a good nap.
Starting point is 01:10:12 That's right. You don't know what I was doing the night before. Yeah. Or later that day. Crushed at the night before. Need a little siesta to recover, had some grub, had some buntan, little nappy poo and right back into the... Yeah, that was Saturday. That was the woman that I live with.
Starting point is 01:10:30 She had some stuff going on, you know, because it's meetings or work meetings, but we're doing it at Stampede. We got to go to this place. So I had to go and drop her off at an establishment downtown and then she was going over. It's like, who. The drive to Stephen Avenue was, was exhausting enough for me. I got to. How busy were the roads even?
Starting point is 01:10:53 Yeah, well, yeah, it's tight down there to begin with. Yeah. And I got, of course, I've got my, you know, got the big rig trying to navigate through there. It's tough. That'll do it for the Pinder report. I saw Pinder was out. Pinder. I saw Pinder with John Bender sightings and people were out. Yeah, he sent me a picture and I immediately replied, overserved. Anytime you're texting me pictures, you're completely wasted for sure. Like, I know this. And it was like, he was, are you, uh, he was like, are you in. I'm like you know I'm not in town and this was at one in the morning I'm like and even if it was what I'm going to come get you out of jail no yeah what are you reading you're reading something that's got your attention that you won't want to talk about it i tear exactly right you're exactly right I'll put it in the I'm not taking pleasure in it but um I put it in the chat some things

Starting point is 01:12:13 You're doing things. Hey, you've got friends over, backyard this sort of thing. You got, oh, you know what? We're going to make some food. Let's just throw, slow everything down, tap the brakes, and we'll, you know. Or you go taco time. Who wants some tacos? Tacos, soft tacos, hard tacos.

Starting point is 01:13:18 And I think it's a good thing. My taco intake is, it's skyrocketed. Skyrocketed. Skyrocketed. For the whole family. And I never had those. the beef.
Starting point is 01:13:31 Crisp meat burritos. The crispy meat until well the thing showed up and you opened the lid on it. Kind of like a pot of gold or one of those treasure chests. Oh, when the thing opens and you went straight for it.
Starting point is 01:13:44 Oh, let's see. There's the soft, the soft. Well, what are those? The crispy beef. You know what you were doing. Oh, so good. You knew exactly what you were doing. So good.
Starting point is 01:13:55 They flake a little bit so you can get a little messy. But they're very controllable. very controllable. They're not wild. You're not going rogue. You're not doing any of that. I'm not trappinal everywhere. I'm losing half of it.
Starting point is 01:14:10 The bite was too big. I can. That's right. You do make it look easy, though. It's not as easy as it makes it look. Hot sauces are awesome. The mexy fries. You can get the sour cream on there.

Starting point is 01:16:10 but you must be 19 or older. Please play responsibly, Bet365, official gaming partner of Barnburner. And today, Jack went in there to kind of look at Stanley Cup odds. We've seen some players moving around.
Starting point is 01:16:23 Will a Kale McCarr extension if it happens? Will that affect the Avalash? The Edmonton Oilers, the fourth best odds. or however you want to, however you want to, they like the Oilers Red. It's plus 900,
Starting point is 01:16:40 but ahead of Vegas, ahead of Tampa, ahead of Minnesota, how do you feel about this? I think Colorado and Edmonton are actually kind of nice little picks there. Dallas has dropped a lot. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:16:58 I don't, I have a hard time with Edmonton, but then you're like, well, how are they worse off? They had a crappy year last year. They got rid of the nurse. I think they've improved
Starting point is 01:17:06 with their goal tending, I would be, I am a little frightened about how much success they may have. I kind of feel similarly. I don't know that I thought it was a little, maybe a little cherry picky. The Oilers have finally got the number one goalie that they've needed. Well, Freddy's 37 and he was part of a,
Starting point is 01:17:31 part of a trio last year. We'll see. I still don't like it though. that's just one of the few that one of the many things you can check out at Bet365. Bet 365, the presenting partner and sponsor of our program here.
Starting point is 01:17:49 Barnburner. I guess we got, yeah, we got a couple in there, Jack. We got a couple of these bad boys in there. It's the super chat for the youth centers of Calgary. Money that comes in as we are live on YouTube. We'll go directly to the youth centers of Calgary.
Starting point is 01:18:06 Happy 250th birthday, the USA from Jeremy. $5. Did you set off some fireworks? You take your pants off? Do you get all crazy? There was a lot of fireworking going on down here. They do a good job with the fireworks.
Starting point is 01:18:20 My goodness. Yeah. Very engaged with the fireworks. And you can buy it everywhere, right? Just at the pharmacy, grocery stores. It's, there was lots of money spent. Yeah. Why don't we do more fireworks stuff?
Starting point is 01:18:37 It's, well, it's not legal, is it? I don't know if it's illegal. It's weird because there are some places where, oh, look, they've got some fireworks here. I can, can we buy it or yell out or is there? What is the, they had a store in Northern Sask. I think part of the reason is, to be quite honest, and the right reason is you better be careful where you're lighting them off because you don't need to spark something that's going to cause havoc and wreckage. Is it fired? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:06 safety first, like with so many things that we talk about. Please play responsibly, right? Yes. Just with everything you do, be responsible. Phyllis! For the last two years, I have been trying to figure out a good, I'm thinking of trade for number 10.
Starting point is 01:19:31 Come to find out he has a no move. Two things, Jeremy. He would waive his no trade. if we could find someone to take on number 10. Yes. Guaranteed. Yeah, I think the issue is not necessarily going to him and asking to wave it. Who fucking knows.
Starting point is 01:19:53 Who knows? But, yeah, there's a lot of things. If there's going to be a Jonathan Hubert O' trade, there's a lot of things that are going to have to happen. Cap keeps going up, Dean. Maybe it can happen. Maybe it can happen. No move clause is certainly part of it.
Starting point is 01:20:10 Yeah. But it would be part of it for sure. So thank you, Jeremy. So we have two, two of them, one from the same guy. But we appreciate you, Jeremy. We appreciate you. And yes, things are now coming in. I guess we can bring them up.
Starting point is 01:20:28 There's Lowell, RIP 960. This one's for Pat. This one's for Pat. The, the, uh, the, Word seems to be today that Rogers, who has, they have been shutting down radio stations, as is Bell. I mean, we've seen it. TSN radio stations have been, have been closing. It sounds like today that our old radio station, the fan 960, is off the air. Now, it's happened over the course of
Starting point is 01:21:01 this show, and of course my phone is going bananas. So I know people are, I'm not going to dance on anyone's grave. I don't, there's good people there. From the time I was, I don't even know, 13, 14, all I ever wanted to do was be on the radio. And I worked there for a long time and we were treated pretty well.
Starting point is 01:21:25 No place is perfect and there's nothing that's 100%. But there are good people there. And I know that's not what people want to hear. They want us to be setting off fireworks. But it's not good. If you're a flames fan, It's not good having less content out there. I mean, we need to step our frigate game up.
Starting point is 01:21:43 That's for sure. But it's not great. Too bad. This one's for Pat. There's Bill. $2.000. Fan 960 gone. Crazy. End of an era. Absolutely it is.
Starting point is 01:21:57 The 960 AM frequency. What do they do with it? Do you put stuff on it? Well, they still, you know, there's, what do you do with Flames games? Where do you put those? Because they are the radio rates. older. I don't know. That's for
Starting point is 01:22:10 people who make far more dough than me. But, and there's a J.H. T's and P's for the employees of the fan 960 today. Yeah. Boy, if I was still there, I'd have got a nice package. Oh.
Starting point is 01:22:31 Should have wrote it out. Four years too late, Rhett. Should have wrote it out. No. I'm with you. It's It bums me out, man. great people down there. Bumbs me out for sure. Sucks to be,
Starting point is 01:22:48 I mean, sucks to be an employee and it's also. Yeah. Anyway, damn. Maybe change is good. Maybe there's, make things happen. Yeah, sure. I mean,
Starting point is 01:23:01 the things are going digital is not earth shattering. Nope. It's the It's the way it is. Hey, oh, Netflix is a big thing. Is that right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:14 Okay. Wow. Who could have seen that coming? Who could have seen it coming? That'll do it for the deals there. I'll do it. I want to give another special tip of the cap to our good buddies. Sean and everybody over at Crystal Waters.
Starting point is 01:23:32 I had another person. I think it was a couple weeks ago where Justin from Viena Nova, He's like, hey, I had a major issue here with my hot water tank. Crystal Waters, you say it all the time. Crystal Waters, they, they jumped up and got us taken care of. Had another person the last couple. Yeah, no good. Hot water tank, needed some help fast.
Starting point is 01:23:56 You were, you were right, boom. I said, well, yeah, do I steer you wrong on stuff like this? Important things. Crystal Clearcalgary.com is the website, but just remember Crystal, Crystal Waters. Crystal Waters, Crystal Waters, Plumbing. the waters home comfort and then well maybe look into it you know well yeah you've been talking about uh maybe maybe this is the year to get the AC maybe there is some deals to be had maybe it's time to think about my my water quality or my my air quality in my house I do need to do the air quality
Starting point is 01:24:28 I got two dogs and a bunch of pigs that live in this house they don't clean up after themselves gross I can only imagine what I'm sucking in here airwise all the time slow you down dude it probably is slowing me down. It probably is slowing me down. Crystalclear Calgary.com is the website. What's, uh, so you are, you're in New York. When are you heading back, uh, heading back this way tomorrow. Are you really? Had enough? It's a lot. Yeah. Small spaces. Yeah. Do you, and your humans are bigger now, right?
Starting point is 01:25:06 Yeah. Yeah. We found out the, the, the, same way going back. You go back to the farm, go back when they're little kids. So let's just stack them on top of each other. You put five of them in the same room, whatever. But then they get to be six foot and taller, and they stink, and they eat a lot, and they're, oh, this house is way too. We can't do this anymore. And other people
Starting point is 01:25:25 are getting older as well, so they are less energetic. Yeah. Set in ways, perhaps. Yeah. That's fine. How's food? Food portion. are good. It's so gross though. We went for a burger
Starting point is 01:25:44 and a beer to join to watch a soccer game. Got the burger and I'm going to upgrade to the sweet potato fries. I'm a salty guy, so maybe it's just my preference and maybe other restaurants do this. Shoveler took a fry. She's like, is that sugar on the sweet
Starting point is 01:26:04 potato? I'm like, it can't be. Certainly it was. And then the dip, I like a spicy Chipotle kind of thing with my sweet potato fries. It was like a maple syrup mayo dip. I'm like enough with your sugar America. Enough. It's too like just overwhelming.
Starting point is 01:26:22 Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet. Sweet. Too much. Yeah. The one boy, he's got a good friend here, the youngest. He sent a text after went over his buddy's house. He goes, dad, there's a house for sale across the streets, but we got to move back. Yeah. So he's ready to stay.
Starting point is 01:26:37 There you go. All right, bud. the summer sked is in effect Tuesdays and Thursdays and Thursdays and less I mean things happen we jump in whatever goes on but that's kind of the the plan here moving forward some will be some interviews some longer form interviews some will be live stuff we'll be in studio will be in Mardi Loop we'll see if Jack can get into the I was going to say well I think there's more chats but uh I will come into studio Thursday Jack but I don't want to sit in the closet so please let me know if
Starting point is 01:27:10 Yeah, Jack's in the closet. You're on the shitter. I'm laying out in the hall by the coffee machine. Somebody showed up and tried like 12 keys on the door just now, and none of them worked. So maybe we're going to shut down too. It's not going to be good. Yeah, maybe that's, yeah, maybe we're, what are you guys doing? We're also shut down.
Starting point is 01:27:33 It's over. Oh, we've got another one here. We'll throw her up there. I'm not sure with that. Between hockey night and Canada no longer being on CBC and the fan 960 shutting down, sure is sucking to be a fan of hockey. It does feel, but here's the thing.
Starting point is 01:27:55 There's still hockey night in Canada. It's just not on CBC. And unless you're out and whatever, rural and you're using your rabbit ears and stuff, you're still watching hockey on Saturdays. And 960's gone, but you're still going to have people talk. talking about the flames, you're going to have, hey, it's just, it just changes.
Starting point is 01:28:16 Things are changing. Look at it. We'll be here for you. We're right here, fellas. We're right here. $5. I was thinking of throwing the bird in the air into my pillow ads on this difficult day. There's some, we spent a long time there, dude.
Starting point is 01:28:34 People always ask how many years it was. I never really remember. I was close to a decade. I don't know if it was exactly, but it was... Yeah. I was there before you, and I was there before Pender. The only one that was there before me was Steinberg. For Pat, actually, Steinberg.
Starting point is 01:28:55 They should let Steinberg just go through whatever you want to take. You want to take some furniture? What do you need? What do you want to take from here? Well, yeah, we'll be back on Thursday. Will we have a Leo Carlson thing figured out by then? Probably. That'd be right about the time.
Starting point is 01:29:13 And, you know, Conroy will be at the, he'll be at the cottage by then. We won't be getting updates from Conroy. No. And I think Pinders off all week. So we'll have a, we'll have a Jack studio doorlock update, a retro back from the U.S. update. Can you pick up my dog? Where is he? At the kennel.
Starting point is 01:29:38 Why do I? I don't know what time I'm going to get in tomorrow if I'm got time. to get over there to get the dog. Oh, I see. Are they going to let me just take the dog? Yeah, whatever. Well, we'll talk about it. Keep it.
Starting point is 01:29:49 We'll talk about it. I do have, there's a bit of PTSD for some people involved. Not so much of my end, but if you tell your kids that I'm going to get your dog. I've got the dog. Yeah. There'll be some real emotions there, I would think. Okay. See you, buddies.
