And away we go on a rainy day here.
I don't know if it is.
Is it?
It's because, you know, I was driving here.
The wipers almost to the point where he had to go from the low to high.
Almost had to go low to high.
Kind of.
Yeah, right in the middle there.
Risking?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I'm a good driver.
So I've managed.
You proved that yesterday when you gave the guy the bird.
I did.
I didn't give a bird.
Burned out his car.
I was thinking about it, though.
I was going to throw under his car that caused the stink.
I hope he's okay.
Yeah, I'm sure you do.
And it was, because there was just a little bit of,
thinking about it.
A little bit of flickering of flame.
Like not a huge engulfed in flame.
It was just a little bit.
It was kind of one of those where it's like,
you better deal with this or it could get worse?
Yeah, something.
First thing, get out of the car.
For sure.
Grab your wallet, whatever it is you need.
Beyond that, hard to say.
Wow.
Candle Lake.
Clubhouse and the restaurant burnt down.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
There's an investigation.
I bet, yeah.
Yeah, there would be.
Um, at least they waited until the end of the season.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
Wow.
So post labor day, almost October, who to thunk it?
Um, so yesterday, 27 degrees beautiful day today, kind of on the chilly side.
Calgary weather, eh?
This Calgary weather is, uh, wait 10 minutes.
Yeah.
It'll change.
Yeah, you know, 10 minutes.
Never know what to wear.
So crazy.
Yeah.
I had a sweater on.
Take it off.
Oh.
Yeah.
Just cost, take it off, put it on, take it off.
It looks like sun now, Dean.
It does kind of look nice out there, yeah.
Jack would open the blinds first.
You'll see it.
Maybe now you'll take your shirt off.
Then it's a get cold, you put a shirt back on.
Dog start bark.
Yeah, never know.
Jack was a little, as you said, perhaps perplexed or flummoxed before the show started.
What was good?
Come on now.
Come clean.
What's going on?
Just a little static.
I don't know what Red did yesterday.
You said he kicked something.
You kicked something.
You can't hear it on the stream, I don't think.
So it's fine.
It's just annoying.
my headphones. What if I push this button? Will that help?
I don't, what button? Well, that one, you know, isn't even the power.
There's, there's an extension cord with nothing plugged into it except the power bar,
which has nothing plugged into it. No, but we got power.
See, the red light. That means there's power. Yeah. Yeah, we got a lot going on over here for
one laptop to be plugged in. Two power bars, extension cords, but we're ready.
I heard you got to build, I don't know, you think you're building things.
I don't know what's going on.
Because here's the thing.
We were talking about the other day.
You live here now?
Is that for now, eh?
Well, the weather's getting me down.
I can't handle this weather.
It's hot.
It's cool.
I'm getting on here.
What am I going to do?
Because now the thought is if there's going to be three guys and they're going to be in the same town,
then they want them in all in the room at the same time.
I kind of agree, except it's, uh,
except I was doing the math on my gas costs.
Dude, I'm telling you, it's a, it's a significant pay cut.
I'm going to talk to people.
People get a kind of a fuel deal. Hey, uh, Johnny Petro Canada.
Can we get some UFA cards?
Fire over some cards. Uh, but they want us in the room. And if we're going to be in
the room, then we should sit together, but we can't really sit together the way we are.
People, that's the thing that you don't even know we're in the same room. You may not know,
just by looking at the stream on, on, on YouTube, but we are, we're kind of side by side.
Look at the picture. It means really bright and I'm not. Yeah. If I reached over at, we could
at some point and I'm not gonna because I'd have to move and stuff but um are you moving or you're
taking a step uh so we're yeah we got to get a desk we're doing a thing over there and then we're
moving a thing over there so yeah it's great you know what the problem is I consider myself an idea
guy yeah there's a lot of them in my sphere around here it feels like ideas a plenty
accomplishments not a lot yeah yeah been a
The thing of it is when the show ends,
I just kind of want to get out of here.
I don't need to hang around and start moving furniture and stuff.
It's a nice day out there.
Let's go.
Let's go.
We moved to couch yesterday.
What are we movers?
I know.
How's your back?
It's not good.
Not great.
You know what?
Lucky we got McLeod Law.
So good.
We've got McLeod Law.
I'm going to sue these bastards.
They're going to get it.
Personal Lynch.
Yeah.
That's Peter Klein.
He's on my, what he called?
Speed Dine.
I was going to say hot dial.
I don't know what that is.
That's something different.
You know what happened last night?
I didn't think it was ever going to happen.
Flames lost the hockey game.
What?
Yeah.
The juggernaut?
Yeah.
Six goals,
a game,
not just,
I thought this is the way life was going to be.
We were way off.
Thought they were going to lose a bunch of games.
But then last night happened.
It was a bit of a spoiler alert.
I guess if you didn't know what was going on.
But yeah,
Flame clues last night.
You didn't catch it.
Yeah,
if you weren't.
If you didn't have it taped on your VHS.
I again, don't tell anybody, but watching on the Flames website,
it's on Flames TV, but then I pump it through my,
that mirror television.
But the quality, it's not like, it's not 4K, let's say.
My wife walks in and she looks at the screen and it's not,
is this a video game?
What are you watching?
We need a new TV.
I'm like, well, it's a thing on the phone and then it's up to there.
It's in Abbotsford and it's preseason.
Is there no one talking?
It's like, no, it's hit and miss.
They're kind of, there's play by play for a bit,
and then it goes away, and then it comes back,
and then it's too loud, and then it's way too quiet.
But, yeah, old Abbotsford, you know,
we're going to talk to in about 50 minutes.
Matthew Sikaris, longtime Vancouver sports guy,
wrote for the Vancouver Gazette,
Times New Roman, the Vancouver.
I think it was the Gazette.
You're right.
Yeah, the Vancouver something.
now he and Blake Price,
they were doing their afternoon show on a radio station
that I think just quit altogether.
You just stopped doing radio.
What?
Yeah, they just pulled the plug.
I don't know.
I don't know.
So anyway, they have a podcast, kind of like us,
and they are within the nation network.
So we're kind of partners.
Is it a sister podcast?
Is that, I don't know what it is.
But anyway, we're going to chat with Matt Scare's coming up.
Let's call it.
23 minutes.
See, when you say Matt,
Sycarus, it throws me off.
I just know Sycarat.
Math, yeah.
Secarison Price will talk to Matt.
I wonder if he was in Abbotsford last night,
or if he was watching the video game feed
on his TV and his office
through his phone or whatever.
McLeod Law opening statements,
you bet you've moved to coach
and now your back hurts
and you need to sue your boss.
Or in, I mean, let's just be honest,
whatever your legal situation is,
personal business, big or small,
they are the ones to,
contact there in Calgary. They are here for Calgary people.
MacLeod-dashlaw.com.
The flames, to this point, so they played against the Seattle Cracken, beat them,
played against the Edmonton Oilers in a split squat. So two, two games there,
won both of those. Could they keep it rolling last night in Abbotsford,
which I think is near Vancouver?
Jacob Pellche, best game of the preseason. Now, he's been in a couple.
Here's Peltier on the left side. He's going to make a little who Zoop.
but shoot that puck kid i know you're trying to shoot that thing second period kinnucks one nothing shot
off the draw here jake bean left shot finds its way past yri petera assist to uh tice here he is tyson
berry there it is seeing i sam hansick retro we were we've been critical of the young man
a little bit nice feed there to mat vea gridden good shot but patera look at zing
Tatar gets across, gets an arm on it to make the same.
I thought I went in.
Looked like it went in.
Should have gone in.
Sam Hansick, watch him here.
Off the draw, little chip, little chase.
I'm going to get around you.
Oh, turns on the jets, cut into the net.
Draws a penalty, that big Deharnay, the former oil.
Sheep shots.
Elbows them right to the jibs.
Best chance on the power play, though, does come to Kiefer Sherwood of the Canucks.
Nice save there by Dustin Wolf.
To the third, two-one, Canucks.
Odd man rush, Marty Pospicil.
He's going to sift a pass right through to Hansik.
Tips at home.
Come from behind, tie it up.
There it is.
Decent.
We're tied to two.
Five minutes left.
Andrew Bashah, Calgary Kid, Medhat Tiger.
Look at the pass.
Through traffic, Dryden Hunt, through the wickets, scores three to two.
It's a pretty pass, Rhett.
It's a pretty pass for the 18-year-old.
pass pretty goal how about it now flames short-handed last a few seconds of the game
daniel sprang through everyone and then oh does one of those that looks it's not really how you
i think jared ternorty maybe wants that one back right there it's a little
maybe a little soft on that one where's the poke check i don't know yeah i don't know i don't know they don't know
well, you know, they're there one more time.
Well, that's actually, that's the big goofy guy in by that point.
That's, uh, oh, they changed.
Yeah, that's Devin Koolet.
So Pospisil falls down in three on three.
What happens then, Rhett when you fall down?
Three on two at minimum.
Yeah.
Patterson, side of the net across DeBrusc scores.
That was pretty too.
And you can see it there when, uh, because Pospasel, he kind of goes around the D man,
falls down and you could see a click pretty.
Oh, geez.
Oh, I'm.
Oh, I bet.
better get up because it's going to be it's going to be trouble going the other way.
Yeah, that's a pretty finish right there.
Watch Pospas.
I'm going to go to drag.
Oh, darn it.
Oh, right.
Shit.
I can't lay here.
I'm not getting the call.
I guess they're going to go back the other way.
I'm going to bust my ass, though, or at least make it look like I am.
So there you go.
Flames fall in overtime by a score four to three.
Interviews can't keep in the game, Cooley.
That's right here.
And he actually on that sprongle,
looked like he'd hurt himself as he came across with maybe the left leg maybe a knee maybe a lower body but he stayed in yeah i came up the stairs i thought i heard myself
i know stairs get you're still doing those things hey 2024 they're still making people walk upstairs isn't everything a
i escalator by now damn it it's too much it's too much so there you have that the uh been a lot of yeah yeah you think no oh too bad
because that looks delicious.
Yeah, it would be, but it's not.
Yeah.
What do you think, Jack?
Guys, I know you're definitely dialed in to the flames and what's happening.
Were you gutted by the loss last night?
Yeah, absolutely devastated.
No, I didn't.
Really tired this morning.
No, I didn't watch any of it.
I wonder if maybe Pospis will cost himself a job there with that.
A lot of good play from some young kids.
out there he's going to have to
bounce back and show something the next game.
It was tough to tell on
the feed, but both sides
were talking about the pace of the game.
The flames felt like this was a definite step
up in terms of pace.
Oh, so it was fast.
Yeah. So there was, and
we'll hear from Ryan Huskin
in the Pinder report, but it sounds
like maybe some guys elevated their
game. Some guys not
so much. Really? Yeah.
You'd feel like you want to.
Yeah, some guys.
Because it was a young lineup, right?
It was very young.
This is the chance to.
Yeah.
Maybe the last because they have two games, two days off now.
The next game is Saturday.
Gone.
Ranglers start their training camp, I think, on Sunday.
Three different groups skate today.
So you wonder, do you skate?
A few of you will be headed home.
You know, don't put the stuff in the stall.
Just put in your bag.
You walk in the bag sitting by.
Oh, we got a road trip coming.
I thought Saturday was a home game against the, oh, okay, well, fair enough.
But talking about Bash, yeah, kids been real good.
I didn't know a lot about him.
Can you give me some history here?
Because I have none.
Calgary Kid, plays in Medicine Hat.
And I know when we were doing the first round, our coverage of the first round of the
NHL draft, there was thought, go for bashing.
and you get,
was Bash,
are going to go in here,
be nice to get Bash,
and they took Gridden with that second pick.
And then they got Bashar the next day
with one of their second rounders.
So is this great.
Perfect.
That's fantastic.
Would have liked him in the first,
get them in the second even better.
And just from being in Penticton,
and through these,
he's played two of these games,
noticeable in every game,
making plays,
and this is another guy.
They got something here.
Again, he's not a game breaker,
maybe,
but this feels like much like Zeri
this is the guy that's going to get in there, make plays,
going to be tough to keep him out of the lineup at some point.
At some point.
Gavin McKenna, right? That's the kid in medicine hat.
Yeah, he's all right too.
And they've got the first rounder from last year
that went to Columbus.
They've got a bit of a juggernaut.
A wagon.
That's the word.
They've maybe got a bit of a wagon.
They got that Richie boy.
Yeah.
What's his name?
Rider.
Is it rider?
Yeah.
Richie.
Rider Richie.
Oh,
yeah,
there you go.
Rough writers.
Right.
Is that why?
No.
God.
Anyway.
People always ask about Zane Perrick.
Well,
how was Perich?
Perik,
he is,
I don't know,
when you're that skilled
and things are easy,
I just wonder if,
if you come across
almost looking,
not disinterested,
but it's just kind of,
are you giving it your all?
Because it does kind of seem that way sometimes.
I'm not crushing the guy because he's got so much, so much skill.
But you can see when some guys are really chugging and working hard and he doesn't really have to in order to keep up or to be in the play or to join the rush.
It just looks so effortless for him.
But I know people are interested and I guess I should be more interested, but this isn't the year for him for me.
No.
Anyway, it's kind of like, yeah, go out there and get a feel for it.
Yeah.
We'll see you next year at camp.
Yeah.
Everything is kind of bonus.
Yeah.
Because he could, he could have, I mean, if he's undeniable,
even if he's putting up two points a game,
the conversation at the end of camp is going to be,
are we really going to keep him and burn a year on this,
yeah, on this squad?
And as, uh, as we do this,
the flames have assigned Matt Faye Gridden and Andrew Basha to their respective junior clubs.
So there you go.
Uh, Gridden was the first rounder,
showed flashes.
He's a,
I didn't really know how to
kind of describe it
watching him in Penticton,
but he feels like that
European guy with a lot of skill.
He just has kind of,
you'll see he'll cut to the net.
There's nothing,
not a whole lot.
And then flash.
You see that,
that skill that's,
oh,
okay,
there is something there.
And you saw it with that shot last night
that I think on a lot of goal
he probably gets in.
So Gridden to the
Winigan cataracts.
Schwinigan.
And where was he?
Is the USHL last year?
Yeah.
They said,
Hey, you know what you should do?
You should,
uh,
should come to CHL.
And Andrew Bash,
off to Medicine Hat,
where he will,
uh, play for the Tigris.
That's how they say that.
Flames now six goalies,
17 defensemen and 31 forwards
in caps.
So still a lot of guys.
Still a lot of fellas kicking around there.
Too many guys.
Coaches would be pissed off.
Uh,
double ice.
Oh, gross.
didn't seem
Huska didn't seem too upset
yeah but he gets upset
fakes it in front of the camera
probably
um who did he call out
he said there were guys that didn't
well he didn't really it was just at the end
named some names he's
he called people fat the other day
and lazy yesterday
my words your words for sure
yeah your interpretation
not verbatim for sure from Huska
he did uh yeah
because he was commending who was he commending
on being in great shape.
Zeri.
Zeri worked hard this summary.
Could have put his feet up.
Had a great year last year.
Kicking back.
Came into camp.
He was in great shape.
Like most of our guys are,
I forget how he'd turn.
Oh, I see something there.
And he didn't mention names
in a negative way, but he did mention one name
in a positive light.
I'll have that for you, the Pinder Report.
It's called a tease.
Sure.
That's what that is.
Great.
Tease.
Oh, you're going to be upset.
You're going to be like, come on.
want, tell me. I'm not going to tell you. I'm not going to do it.
Why are my eyes so bad? I can't even read this.
Is that the macular degeneration?
Sure is, Dean. You want to bore my glasses? You want to try him on?
No. Come on.
All right. Maybe one of your hats.
What the cubbies?
You want the cubby's hat? Oh, baseball. We'll talk about that in the Pindor report. It's
common. We sat and watched De Eugene. I watched a little bit of Padres, Dodgers last.
How about that?
Tatis Homer?
I may have fallen asleep.
Oh, well.
It was a big day.
Rye whiskey will do that to a guy.
A double order of chicken and ribs.
It's not what it was?
Chicken and ribs.
Oh, yeah, the full platter.
I usually feel like one of the others,
ordinarily it's probably enough, depending,
but why not?
The night was over immediately.
Oh, and a Paul Newman cake.
Had some Paul Newman.
What is a Paul Newman cake?
Oh, Dean.
I'm unaware.
I'm going to make you one.
No, you're not.
This is you're an idea guy.
You think it'd be a great idea to make me a Paul Newman cake.
Alberta, you know what we're going to do?
This is our meaningful moment of the week.
All right.
Alberta Blue Cross presents the meaningful moment of the week.
If you're planning a trip, make sure you remember to pack travel insurance from
Alberta Blue Cross.
When you've got Canada's most trusted travel insurance in your back pocket,
you can focus on making the right kind of memories while you're away.
Visit ab.bluecross.ca slash travel for more information.
More, what could be more memorable than a visit from Matt Sakeras from Scareas and Price.
And maybe you needed some travel insurance to get to Abbotsford.
Did you go to Abbotsford last night?
Did not.
Went to Penticton.
Sure.
Spent some time with Pinder.
That was interesting.
He, um, you only need a little.
Is he in Oz right now?
Did I hear this correctly?
Yeah, he's in Australia.
So did he figure what?
I'm already one hour into a 17-hour flight to Sydney by being in Pentick and I'll just leave from here.
No, it was, we've had all summer off.
So as soon as training camp starts, you know what I should do is take another couple weeks.
There you go.
And go to the other side of the planet.
Get it really off.
They can't reach me over here.
But I like the way you, you characterize that.
Hey, I ran into Pinder.
That was interesting.
That's all the feedback we get back.
It's always interesting or that was something.
Yeah, or just I saw Pinder.
Yeah, I mean, he looked like he was really fitting in in Fantecton.
And we had him on the show last week.
And he was there and on time and his usual ball of yucks.
And so he had a great hit with him and talked a little bit about the flames and talked a little bit about, of course, trades last year and everything that's gone down between the two franchises.
But I got to say, guys, like, I've been accustomed, I've been here in Vancouver 7th.
17 years now. And I've been accustomed to the flames being sort of the stalwart rivalry.
You know, like sometimes it's a little heavier than others. Sometimes it's a little more, you know, fiercer.
Of course, we had the infamous line brawl with tortarella and all that. And, you know, while the Canucks at one point when they were good,
had a really good rivalry with the Blackhawks and then lost to Boston in the final. And so wound up hating Boston.
and there was some rivalry there.
There was always Calgary.
And of course, in 2015, we saw it again in a playoff series that the Flames won.
I'm here to report.
I think the Canucks and Canucks fans are now looking a little further north of your city.
You don't care about us.
A new rival.
It's a seismic shift here that we're looking up the highway to that team in the Alberta capital.
as the new rival after last year's playoff.
Well, you can have them, quite frankly,
because they've been, they've been,
they're not fun to deal with.
Yeah, they've been in our craw for long enough.
If you want to take a few years,
by all means,
you go ahead.
But I was thinking about that this morning.
It's the playoff series last year,
and of course,
everyone's still talking about Edmonton.
What's the vibe in Vancouver?
Because it's still very cup or bust in Edmonton.
This is the year they're going to pick up right where they left off.
I don't know if anyone was expecting that run that Vancouver went on last year.
What's your sense as to where they do?
Yeah,
Well, I mean, the season was a big surprise.
Like, I think even the most optimistic Canucks fan at this point last year was talking about making the playoffs,
maybe being the third seat in the Pacific Division, but by no means being the division champion in the regular season,
by no means, you know, being in the President's trophy race in April as they were last year.
So it was an absolute surprise and a very welcome one after what we had been calling a decade of despair here in Vancouver.
The only other time they qualified for the playoffs was in the expanded bubble playoffs during the pandemic year.
Other than that, you have to go back to that 2015 series against the flames.
The last time they legitimately qualified for the playoffs.
So we had got nine years guys between Stanley Cup playoff games in the city of Vancouver is a pretty long time.
And this came after really what was the best era of Canucks hockey.
So it was really dramatic.
It was really quite a fall from grace.
the team had fallen quite out of favor with fans here.
So last year was the respite that we all need it.
I mean, we sat here on the show and said many a times,
oh my God, thankfully, we just have a different story than what has played out year after
year after year for the better part of the last decade.
So there's a lot of optimism here this year.
I don't think it's quite as cup or bust as it is up in Edmonton.
You know, number one, the Oilers made it to game seven on the finals.
The Conucks didn't even get halfway there.
So there are different stakes there as well.
I think both teams are a little bit different in terms of their life cycles.
And, you know, for a lot of Canucks fans,
they look at Thatcher Demko under contract for two more years,
Quinn Hughes under contract for three more years and think that's the window.
And if we can get further than the second round this year,
that will be a successful season.
That would represent progress.
Moves fast.
Because you mentioned the Quinn Hughes when I was just kind of looking this morning.
There's three years left on.
I still feel like Quinn Hughes is a baby.
Like, he's just, he got a Norris.
This is just starting three years left.
It does start to, it feels like the vice is three years, not a lot of time.
Yeah, I mean, like these now, like Patterson, Hughes, Demco, like, these are now fully formed
players.
Like, we used to talk at this time of year, how much untapped potential is there?
How much further can they push the point totals to needles?
Remember, you're going to improve from within.
That was a really.
common phrase here in Vancouver for a number of September's improvement from within. And,
you know, to their credit, they've, they've all improved. I mean, Alias had a terrible second
half of last season, but they all improved. Norris won in, he just won in Norris, as you
mentioned. Demko is the finalist for the Vesna. Harrison was on a hundred point pace until the
second half when he sort of lost his way. So these are now fully fledged players, stars. You know,
Some might say that Quinn can be a superstar now.
So there's no more improvement from within.
Like this is what they've got.
They might be able to uptick some of the point totals,
but we know what they are as players.
And yeah, it's go time.
They've got approved now.
And, you know, management has been very clear on this that,
okay, there's a difference between being a very good player in the national hockey league
and being a player who can help win you a Stanley Cup or drive a Stanley Cup run.
And they're at the point.
now where they're hoping to turn the Quinn Hughes's and the Leas Pedersons of the world into guys
like Sidney Crosby and of Jenny Malkin who are able to play their best and get their team through
playoff series and eventually, of course, win championships.
Do you have that?
I should have looked for it because I saw there was the terminology about Demko's knee,
how it's an injury, but it's not, it's, I don't know, there's some murkiness around it,
which can be good or bad.
I'm not sure, but he's not, he's not ready to go.
C-Lovs and they signed Kevin Lankin.
We saw there's a lot of goalies hanging around.
But none of them are Thatcher Demko, who is going to be a big part of the success that the Canucks enjoy if they do this year.
How troubling is it, I guess, from where you see?
Yeah.
Well, first of all, Bimmer, you've had me go back to Google to get the name of this muscle again.
Like, I'd never heard of it until.
at I, yeah.
ACL MCL, MCL, so I don't know.
Exactly.
You know, that was the extent of my knee knowledge.
ACL, MCL, PCL, meniscus.
But this was the week that we learned of the popliteous muscle, a small triangular muscle
located at the back of your knee.
And as I understand it, more often than not, this muscle doesn't do a whole lot.
Like, this isn't one of the big, important muscles.
in knee movements, other than a few positions that goaltenders are now getting into
and being coached to get into uptight against their post.
So, yeah, the troubling side of this.
So the good news is, this is not a you're going to require surgery issue.
The good news is this is you can play through this issue.
The bad news is that Dr. Demko tells us, and he did some extent,
of research with his medical team.
They cannot find a single instance of a hockey player having this injury to this muscle.
So there is no precedent.
There's no playbook here.
And it's been a little bit frustrating for him over the course of the summer because
for whatever reason, this muscle hasn't healed or hasn't gotten to the point,
strengthened, that to allow him to do everything that he needs to do, to play goal.
at the level that he has played goal.
So there's no timeline for his return here.
That said he is on the ice.
He's taking shots.
So like you look at it and nothing sort of looks amiss,
but there's still a whole lot of uncertainty.
And I would have to think, yeah, even some concern and some fear about what this could be,
given the lack of historical information.
Dean and I are both big believers in Rice.
And that's rest, ice, compression,
compression, elevation.
I thought it was Eclare.
That works.
That too.
So there it is.
Yeah.
That's a great guess.
That's well done.
Yeah.
The old.
There is guys.
So it sounds like this is one of the,
only Demco will be able to give a green,
because yeah yeah that's it so are you good you're not okay i guess you're not playing yeah yeah
that that's basically it we're we're basically uh waiting on thatcher demko to say okay um i feel good
enough that i can play through this and you know that's the part that i think some kinnucks
fans are quite worried about that this is just something he's going to have to learn to play with
and it can cause some pain.
So, you know, he's had a bit of a riddled injury history to begin with.
And now we have something that could well be chronic going on.
So, you know, all the more reason that the fan base here is full-throated and behind Archer Sheelof.
Well, I was going to say, what he accomplished in the playoffs, you feel a lot better going into game one in a couple weeks knowing that you've got that.
complete off the cliff.
Right.
I mean, and just to recap, guys, last year they needed three goaltenders to win games in the first round and became like only the third team ever to do that in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The first since I believe there's a Pittsburgh team actually managed by Jim Rutherford, one of the cup teams that needed three goaltenders.
So yeah, Demko wins game one, gets hurt.
Casey DeSmith comes in wins game two.
against Nashville gets hurt.
Archer Sheelofs has to come in.
And the next thing you know, excuse me,
your third string rookie goaltender,
who's got a handful of NHL starts,
is carrying the mail against the Eminemps and Damiener beats
the Edmonton Oilers in a playoff series.
Well liked.
I'm trying to think back to the playoffs.
Obviously, you win some games and you help your team out.
You're going to be well liked.
But I thought the conversation was how much.
the guys really like him in the room oh they love them they uh i mean they love them and the
fan base in the market fell in love with them i mean is uh he's a cult hero here uh he's a cult hero in
lapvia too he led them to a bronze medal at the world championships two years ago i i mean you know
for a a country that loves hockey but doesn't typically win much um you know he's uh he's a hero
he's a national hero so yeah uh an amazing uh story an amazing progression from sort of
of a late round pick that no one really thought about.
And the next thing you know, a couple of years back,
he made a handful starts towards the end of the season.
And he's now become a critical part of the Vancouver Canucks present
and perhaps the Vancouver Canucks future as well.
If you were a fan watching last night,
maybe you took the summer and you didn't pay that close of attention
as to what July 1st and free agency held,
you may not have realized that Jake Debrusk was a Vancouver Canuck.
It was weird.
As we got close to it, there's always,
Calgary's maybe sniffing around Jake Debrusk,
And then there's the debate, well, why would you do that?
Where are you in your arc of winning or trying to win, that sort of thing?
And then he landed in Vancouver.
And I don't think it was what three weeks ago talked about how Vancouver made his decision real easy.
The money was there.
It was a long-term deal.
Good money.
Were you surprised to see Jake DeBrusk land in Vancouver?
No, because we knew they were going to go out and get one of the best free agent
wingers available for Elias Peders.
We too had heard the Calgary thing, though.
Well, we had heard that he wants to be in Alberta and watch out for the flames.
And then the Canucks came and offered him the max term at 5.5 million,
but also offered him an opportunity to play with a pretty good centerman and Elias
Pedersen.
And one of the things that became apparent last year, guys, as they went through the series
against the Oilers, is they were a winger or two short.
They just simply did not have enough scoring punch on the flank.
and Elias Pedersen was playing through a nagging knee injury.
And in his first real Stanley Cup playoffs,
he had played the bubble playoffs,
but that's an entirely different animal,
or at least most.
So he was really struggling,
and he didn't exactly have a whole lot of goals beside him.
Mills Hoglander had a very nice season with 24 goals,
but he was also quiet and struggled in his first playoffs.
So the Canucks said, let's go out.
I mean, they took a big run at Jake Gensel,
at the trade deadline last year.
They were hoping to take another big run of Jake Gensel in free agency before his rights were
traded to Tampa and he signed there.
The management group here knew Gensel from Pittsburgh, so they had big belief there.
When Gensel fell off the market and then you may remember in the early minutes of July 1st,
a bunch of those free agent winger started signing left, right, and was Malthus signed in
Calgary pretty quickly?
There was a bunch of wingers that were off the board within minutes.
free agency starting.
And Debrusk was still there, and they knew absolutely they needed a winger who could
score some goals for Elise Pedersen.
And, you know, they also wanted a winger who had a little bit of playoff pedigree,
who had been there before, played in some big games.
And of course, Debrusk had done that with the Boston Bruins.
So, yeah, a couple of goals last night.
Needless to say, like his dad, he's got the gift of Gab, so he's really charmed the market
and all of his interviews so far.
And, yeah, they're hoping onwards and up.
and that Jake Debrusk is the guy who can unlock even better from Elias Pedersen
or at the very least eliminate the excuse that Pedersen doesn't have wingers to play with.
Right.
And maybe and there's always,
and if it doesn't work out,
there's always Craig Conroy.
It was,
you know,
Zedorov and then Linda,
if you guys need anybody out there,
just call Craig and he'll fire some guys out there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well,
I mean,
double-edged sword,
right?
Like,
I'm sure it was difficult for some Flames fans to see Lynn home and to see
Zadoroff in Canucks colors last year.
But I hear Hunter Brestevish had a pretty good camp.
He could be a very good player.
And certainly we took note of all the goals
that Andre Kuzmanko scored down the stretch last year.
So, yeah, look, I do anticipate the Vancouver Canucks
are going to be busy by the trade deadline.
They were last year.
It's sort of the modus operandi of this group.
If you look through Jim Rutherford's history in Carolina,
in Pittsburgh. He is often made big moves. He is often made big moves before the deadline.
And of course, we saw that because both those Calgary, Vancouver trades happened well in
advance of the actual deadline itself. We talked about this with Pinder last week when he was on
our show that for the Canucks, the big gaping hole is right side defense, second pair right
side, because we anticipate Philip Ronick playing with Quinn Hughes again this year.
and would they take a run at Arasmus Anderson at some point later this year?
Now, you know, you're sort of running out of plum assets to give up if you're the Vancouver Canucks,
but there's a school of thought that they might be all in this year,
that this management group after kind of being all in last year, like three quarters all in,
but didn't really want to pay the premiums at the deadline,
whether they'll get even more aggressive and take very big swings like Anderson and some other front line players.
What's Anderson's, I mean, we know him here in Calgary,
so we have our opinions built on him,
but from other markets, what isn't Anderson look like?
Or what's the appeal there?
I mean, I guess I would ask guys,
what isn't the appeal with Anderson?
You know, he ticks so many boxes.
You know, right side guy, plays heavy minutes,
good defensively, good offensively,
great contract, term loud,
Um, wow, wow.
Yeah.
We're in a there.
I mean, you know, Blake and I have talked about it on our show.
Like, if you're making a bid for Rasmus Anderson and getting them this year,
particularly if you're getting them in, you know, advance of the trade deadline.
I mean, I think that's a sun, moon, and stars return for Craig Conroy, right?
Like, yeah, I don't think you move the player unless you're getting like three prime assets back.
Um, I would suspect that.
if he is available this year, he will be one of the best players available this year.
So I, and look at a scarce position like right side defense, I mean, I think, you know, Calgary could instigate a bidding war on this player and, and walk off with a haul.
Trouble, trouble being, though, Matt, if if they do move Anderson, the, the next best right-handed guy might be Rhett Warner.
I'm ready.
So I'm not sure.
my my pulley monitor knee muscle is in great my polychamus is in great shape yeah but it's
going to be it will be and the only thing that can derail that here is if they exceed expectations
and the kids come in don't know they're supposed to be bad they start winning hockey games well you
can't trade anderson now because that's happened a number of times over the over the years but i do he's
got the two years left until cheap until he is traded or leaves as a free agent it's going to be
talk about when and how much do you get for for rass and and you just hit it rat like he's 4.5 5.
Like if he's free this summer, he's a nine million dollar player.
Like he's pretty much being compensated 50% of what market value is.
So yeah, frankly guys, like I'm not sure we've and you know, around the league people might be
surprised by this opinion if you don't know Rasmus Anderson as well.
as we do in the Pacific Division,
and certainly as well as you guys do,
watching him grow up.
And the other thing I'll note,
he was selected with a Vancouver Canucks pick in the second round.
You may remember the Sven Berci trade guys.
Brian Burke was doing his utmost to run Sven Berci out of town.
And Jim Benning in the Vancouver Canucks took him out of jail
and gave him a second round pick for Sven Berci,
and they turned around and used the pick on Rasmus Anderson.
But a lot of people around the league would probably not understand.
when we say that this is a player that if he goes to market,
we'll have had few peers, I think, on the trade block in recent memory here.
Like, I can't remember right-shot defensemen on a great contract.
Complete defenseman plays every situation being available with term.
Like, so, yeah, I think it's sort of one of the big names to watch this year.
on the trade bait boards,
Saravelli's trade targets board.
Yeah.
Because I just think...
And 27.
Yeah, no, that's it.
Like, again, he takes every box.
Like, there's really no wart on the players.
So, yeah, I mean, I would not be surprised to see him
as a best available player on the trade block all year.
What are, now, when are you doing the show now?
Because it was, it was afternoons, then we're going to mornings and it's
When do we get Scarcerty Prize?
So 1130 Pacific time the show kicks off on YouTube and a bunch of other social platforms.
We do some early recording work in the morning.
And then the show runs from 1130 Pacific, 1230 Mountain onwards.
Do you miss the radio?
Yes and no.
Boomer, I miss it when there's a big live breaking story.
Like we used to get that on our show, both when we were midday's.
and when we were the PM drive slot.
Sure.
It was like a massive something would happen.
Like, believe we were on air the day.
You remember that day like several summers ago?
Was it Taylor Hall for Adam Larson?
Those three deals all went down.
Yeah, Sue ban.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah, for sure.
You know, when stuff like that drops during your show,
that's a pretty cool adrenaline rush.
Yeah.
You know, that part I miss.
I miss, you know, working with some of the people.
we worked with back in the radio days.
But, you know, this side has its advantages as well.
Boom, misses the mornings.
He loves getting.
Yeah, really?
The 3.30 alarm going off, those were the days.
No, I don't, I don't miss getting up.
That was the hardest, hardest part of the whole.
Were you still conditions to get up at a ridiculous hour?
Were you able to break that?
Yeah, it took about two days.
Really?
That a boy.
Done on Friday.
By Monday.
was sleep until about 8.30, 9 o'clock. No problem.
Oh, boy. Because I've heard so many morning radio guys in our business say that,
that, you know, when you do it for as long as they do it, and then the end comes,
you know, you're up at 4.4.30. That is your lot in life. You see,
you see sunrise more often than you see sunset. I hear those are the same people who say,
oh, I couldn't, I couldn't retire. I'll be too bored. I got to be doing something.
I don't get that either. I think. No, I don't get it either, too.
Like, I, if I could retire tomorrow, play golf every day and sit on a beach here, like, that would be a pretty good life.
I think I could deal with that for a number.
I'd give it a try anyway.
We'd try for a few years and then see how it's.
I give it the old college try, boo.
That's right.
Yeah, that's right.
But a good talk, and you, sorry about Pinder and Penton.
Yeah, no, no.
So much.
Again, he brought the flavor.
And thank you for the invitation here.
Gentlemen, really appreciate it.
By all means, have a great season and call back.
Likewise. Anything you need. Reach out, buddy. Good to talk to you. So Carison Price.
They, of course, YouTube, you can get the podcast. You download the audio version, whatever.
People know what the hell are doing. We're on a podcast right now.
I'm telling people about it. Come on Jack, smart not what are you talking about.
Yeah, I don't know, because in Edmonton, there's no doubt. Stanley Cup, we're going back.
You're going back. I don't know that you feel the same way in Vancouver. For sure you don't.
Well, a year ago, you didn't know.
what they were going to be new coach they were hopeful yeah but it wasn't a i would they were a huge
surprise let's be honest yeah well i remember last year when sarah valley put out his his predictions or like
everybody does he had vancouver being a playoff team and i'm not throwing him under the bus but pindra's like
what is he's what are you talking about uh vancouver they're not going to be any good at all chunk
they got a couple of good players but and i still don't know we watched it with our own eyes and it took a
little while and I guess we you see in football how much a difference how big a difference
coaching can make and it's not necessarily a shot to green or budro or whoever was there before
but talk it connected with those guys almost immediately and i was going to say adam foot's there too
i was going to you have to they're all they got them going in the right way yeah but you
i was going to ask it but it's a stupid question how do you go up against the oilers
yeah do you remember that i'm trying to remember
It was game seven they went to, right?
In the cup?
No.
Edmonton and Vancouver in the playoffs.
And wasn't Vancouver just dog shirt in game seven?
Yeah.
Like no emotion?
Yeah, they were cooked.
Yeah.
And the other thing was Pedersen was just getting crushed.
Crush.
Because he wasn't showing up.
Well, and he had a shitty attitude in front of the media.
He had the full pout on.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And Miller was doing everything.
It was,
J.C. Miller was a horse for those guys.
And you wonder if Demko doesn't get hurt.
Because as good as Sheelovs was.
Demko's a Vesna.
Well, you play different too.
Good or bad?
You're right.
It could go good or bad.
But you got a goaltender like Demko in the net.
You're going to approach the game a little bit differently.
Freewheel a little more.
He's got it.
Yeah, he can stop it.
And if he makes the saves, it allows you to create more offense.
Whereas with the other guy, you're like, okay, we better just play under control.
And it's weird.
It's,
and it won't be for everybody.
I get it.
And how Secura was talking about,
well,
the flames,
you know,
it's not really the flames.
And we're not really the flames.
Canucks,
so hateable.
It's been a while now that I just don't,
they're kind of indombed.
Did he say it was nine years?
They hadn't made the playoffs.
Yeah.
I didn't know what was that.
I didn't know.
I knew that they weren't,
but I was like,
who nine is not far off the old savers at 13.
Pinder would know between his,
Jim Bennings and Trevor Linden's and all that.
He'd have all that right figured out.
So yeah, good, go.
Hey, have a great year, Vancouver.
And if you need a couple guys, you want to send over some former first round draft
picks or whatever.
I do like hearing how much everybody, or at least,
Secarus thinks Anderson's worth.
Because I'm in the same boat and I think most people would be.
If you're from out east and you don't know them that well,
maybe you're like, who's this guy?
But if you look at the numbers, pretty easy to figure out.
four and a half for him is it's so at the time it was good money and you just if he if he develops
and improves and it'll be a really good contract and for sure it is and now it's when when do you get
the most you would think or you hear some well he's got two years left so you don't want term
when the cap hit is that when it's that low you want that term for that player i'll have him for
as long as possible i would think oh so i've got a top two defenseman at four and a
have for two years. Yeah. I'm an Anderson guy. I have been for a while. And I just think on top of
all of it, I just, he gives a shit. He plays the right way. Right. He cares. And he sticks up for teammates and
he gets pissed off when they lose, losing matters to him. And you could tell. And even last year,
maybe what do you call it pouting or whatever when things, you know, no Johnny, no kachuck.
It took him a little wild around his game out, I think. I thought the start of the year was a little
off for him. But then as the season went on, whether it's with Uighur or whatever it was, I just,
you hate to see him goal, but I agree. I think that he would be a guy that brings you a hell
of a return. And you have to look at it for sure, long and heart. Conroy. Let's sit on your
hands, Conroy. But I have, works not over. You know what I have? I have a lot of connie for
conifidence in Craig. Terrible. What about you, Jack? Do you have,
You have Connie Finance and Craig?
Lots of Connie Finan.
Yeah.
Connifidence and Craig.
I've got Connie Finns and Craig that he will find the right time and the right deal for Rasmus Anderson.
I'm going to ignore you.
I don't know why you would.
So funny.
Hey, uh, origin brewing, our buddies.
Hey, somebody texts me from origin.
Yes, Big Mark.
I should have texted back.
I saw guys.
Oh, you're too cool.
Well, you're the guy that doesn't return tech.
But it's like, hey, you guys need some beer dropped off at the house.
Yep.
Yep.
Just lightning fast.
Yeah, yeah, sure it sounds good.
Steal it all.
You need some of those IPAs right.
Yep.
Yep, that would be great.
That'd be wonderful.
They have got, what do you do the, I just feel like with October Fest, this is kind of the.
That's the movement.
But there's like tubas.
I don't know.
It's a um-u-lumpus.
I don't think that's how you run a tuba, but.
You got a license for that tuba?
October fest next Friday.
Strathmore.
11 to 11.
11's a big shift.
That's a big shift.
Free entry.
Are you up for it?
Can you do it?
That is.
That's going to be heavy.
Yeah.
I have faith in you.
I've seen you work.
Definitely need a room.
Definitely need a room.
Sterling on your room.

And go to the website.
They got a bunch of different things.
They're always doing stuff.
They've got the tap room.
It's not just come in and have a drink and there's some food.
They've got the Origin Kitchen going now with that Buffalo chicken dip.
Comedians, they got stuff for the, I shouldn't say,
but for the ladies, I think they do kind of like, it's like an art night.
Crochet.
Come have some.
some drinks and make some arts and crafts and stuff.
Check out the damn website.
Love it. Love it.
And you can do one of these when you get there.
Be careful.
You elbow someone.
They might come at you.
There they are.
Of course, they've got the new,
they got the new brewery slash tap room here in town.
There you see.
It's a paint, sip, and create.
That's kind of, a little stand-up comedy.
Private event.
Maybe you want to rent a private?
you need the place.
You should.
Cags full in the back if you need it.
And the Octoberfest party.
Origin Brewing.
orgia to check out that and figure out more.
Do the Pinda report.
Have we had any connections with the down under?
Jack?
I talked to him briefly yesterday
as we were testing his connection
for a show we will do in three hours.
Very spotty.
Wait.
Don't.
Wait.
Yeah.
Okay.
I won't bring it up.
It's better this way.
Okay.
Isn't it?
It jumps right out at me, though.
It kind of is like a...
I figured it might.
So Pinder has gear and is able to do a show from where he's at.
Yes.
Not our show.
No.
You'll notice I wasn't exactly trumpeting that.
Just a couple weeks.
Hey, whatever.
Just be able to relax and have.
have conversation.
Yeah.
See how much we talk to each other?
It's unbelievable this week.
Unbelievable.

The Pinder Report.
We saw the highlights earlier.
The flames dropped their first of the preseason, four, three in overtime.
Dustin Wolf played each of the first two periods, made 17 saves.
He's been very good.
It's a small body work, obviously, sample size, but he has been very good.
Cooley took over in the third, allowed the tying and game winning goals,
but for sure place to be.
Understand it at all.
Sorry.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know if that's player.
Is that goaltending staff saying here's
how we need the workload to be for the goalies?
Can I see some science behind this is the most effective way?
I just don't understand.
Anyway, I don't really have a huge deal.
Now, potentially some bad news.
Don't tell me that.
No points for Matt Coronado also left the game.
game didn't return. So, but especially in a preseason situation like this, safe, it could be the
smallest little, you know, I'm feeling a bit of a tickle. I got kind of a, you're done. Take off your stuff.
You're good. Uh, as well, Jake Bean injured, we think, well, left the game didn't return.
Kevin Ball is already on the sidelines. You're what I'm faking it. Uh, so who knows what opening
night if you, I don't know the ball was certainly going to be in that mix.
and Jake Bean probably fighting for a spot there maybe opens things up a little bit I thought Tyson
Barry just okay just okay well okay I think we're thinking that Tyson Barry is the Tyson
Barry of 25 26 year old Colorado running I'm being nice I didn't think Barry was great
it wasn't there's a reason Barry's here on a PTA yeah yeah like that's what I thought because
the game two day whatever it was two days ago oh yeah definitely looks like this is this
is the guy in the NHI got he's going to get it's going to
I got an assist in that opening goal, but I'm just, whatever.
All right.
Bash her back to Medicine Hat, as you heard, Matt Vey Gridden off to win again.
Sam Hansick continues to elevate his game.
Scored a goal, as you saw.
Could have had an assist on the, if Gridden finds a way to put that one in the net.
I believe it's now six points in three games for him.
Not too shabby, pal.
Not too shab.
Answers the call.
He gets some called out.
Yeah.
Flames coach, Ryan Huska, asked what'd you like, bud?
I thought we took on a little bit of water tonight for sure.
I mean, this was the, when you look at all of our games so far, this was the highest-paced game that we've played in.
So I felt like it was a challenge at times for some of our players.
And at the same time, I thought there was some players that elevated their game.
Like, again, we had another good night from Hansig where he showed that he can play in a game that's a little bit more pace than we've seen so.
So there it is.
No one got called out for poor performances,
but Hansick gets a little.
He looked, the highlights you saw is as much as I've seen
a thing.
I'm like, that looks pretty good.
But that is, it's not cherry pick and he was,
yeah, he could have easily had a goal and an assist,
couple points, maybe a three point night, depending.
He is, he has gone very quickly from a guy that you
weren't noticing.
He has become very noticeable.
He is what you thought is big, strong, good skater, goes to the net, making plays,
vision, the whole package that you were sold, maybe not a bill of goods going back
to yesterday's show.
I'll be a callback there.
But that's only good things for, for him.
The Wrangler camp, again, opens on Sunday.
Three separate groups skate today.
We'll see what happens as far as further trimming as far as the Ross, the rest of it.
And you know what?
Jacob Peltje, I thought was all right last night too.
Notice him making some plays.
Did you find what Pike said yesterday interesting that he does?
I thought he was more of flash.
And Pike was saying, no, no, no, no, he does more of the behind the scenes kind of stuff.
There was one play.
He came back and broke up a two on one.
Defenseman was out of position.
Maybe he, I think he was maybe a little fortunate.
How I think you would probably give him a pointer as to how to maybe play.
that two on one but he got a stick on it and then turned it back the other way but he was where he
needed to be he's bailing out his defenseman so i don't know maybe the the the the part i don't like
about that scenario is that i want a guy to put up some poor i know yeah you're too young to be doing
the let's evolve into a 200-foot player lean into your skill lean in if you can shoot it and you've got
some points let's lean into that we'll find some guys if we need to to be yeah we need to fill
defensively
bottom conscious.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Take a look at the schedule.
Here's what's going on for you.
The regular season is coming.
We're led to believe that it is going to be played at some point.
In fact,
sooner than later.
Wow.
Do you like that?
That was awesome.
Awesome.
We're high end.
So high end.
Saturday.
Saturday.
Saturday.
It's Vancouver.
They don't even care about us anymore,
but they're coming to town to play the flames at the dome.
Monday,
home game against the Cracken.
Wednesday off to
Winnipeg next Friday.
There you see it.
October 4.
Look at that.
Dizzy.
They'll wrap up the preseason with a pair of games against the Jets
and then yes.
Season gets going against the
hoity tooty Vancouver Canucks.
Very arrogant.
They're in themselves Canucks.
They're in Vancouver saying, I don't want these tickets.
When's Edmonton coming to town?
We don't like Calgary.
There's no rivalry.
You people are boring.
Nice guy comes on the show.
What did you guys say about me?
I don't know what happened.
It's preseason.
We know these things don't matter.
It matters to the players.
Young guys want to impress and the coaches,
they're evaluating things, but I don't think coaches
are getting that bent out of shape by results or anything like that.
It was a wild one between,
well, you know what,
It's, let's just suffice to say, it's not preseason for, not everybody is taking preseason as a, yeah, whatever.
It matters to some people.
He's going to retrieve it with 10 seconds left in regulation.
33 seconds left in the power play.
Geeky rumbles up the left side and center.
Speeds across the blue line to the left circle.
She's scoff!
From a tough angle with two seconds left.
It's 8.7 lightning.
No, in fair, it's 8.7.
Two seconds left.
Against Florida and you're wound up,
but Michigan doesn't have an off switch.
Listen to this donkey.
From a tough angle with two seconds left.
It's 87 lightning.
Yeah.
I love the enthusiasm.
It's great, sure.
Yeah, it's great.
So, of course, Geeks was in the circuit chef trade.
That was a big trade that went on, what, late June?
didn't see coming
but Sergachev
long time lightning defenseman
was actually drafted by Montreal
then it was the McDonough deal
now
he's a Utahian
is that what it is?
He was Syracchev
was that not what it was I think he was that
young kid the
he's in Colorado now
didn't Sergachev
go to Tampa for
oh McKinnon's old teammate
a new teaming
Oh was it Drew Ann?
Yes okay
you might be right.
I think I am.
You're probably right.
I don't remember much, but when I remember.
Yeah, thanks for calling me out on that.
You're right.
So who am I thinking of?
Who was the, in the, uh, Surgachev?
Because that was a, uh, that was kind of viewed as a, really, hey, trading a good young
D for, for malcontent, for a forward who's not very happy.
Stevie Y, well done.
Um, Cirgachev is still just 60, sorry, 26 years old.
Yeah, it was, uh, traded from Montreal.
all with a second to Tampa for
Drew Ann and a sixth. And then
from Tampa to the Utah hockey
club for Connor Geeky, J.J.
Moser, and a seventh.
And a second coming
up in the 25 draft.
Had to pay Gensel.
Guess so. Guess they did.
Enjoy that. How hard is it to play
with Hedman? I don't know.
Not difficult.
No. Okay.
Now, preseason
dude.
You don't want guys
getting injured. We had an injury last night. I'll just let you, I'll say this, just for,
because we're going to show the video. Drew Dowdy, left leg. Oh, no.
That could probably get this whole game and continue to build his game. Talks about, you know,
you're playing in Toronto, up and down here last year, but he was the guy they went to in game seven.
Dowdy or the wrist shot blocked by Brassan, broke the stick up Brasson.
And I'll play the first four-
into that series against Boston.
Elix fell down three games to one.
They went to Joseph Wolfe for the next two.
Oh.
Now, Drew Dowdy,
shaking up and holding that left leg.
Him and Tanner Pearson, former teammates got tied up as
simple boy, Pearson just trying to drive this puck in the zone.
Look at the Southern Nevada Toyota dealer's instant.
there's instant replaying and watch his right leg something had to give it's left kind of got caught up against the boards
oh it does not look good for the kings kind of awkward how he went down right there it's not uh
right ankle he's not a guy who's going to stay down the thing you hate to see in the preseason these guys
trying to get so not great kings obviously a playoff team last year going to get by evenden at some point uh here
Here is the Frank Saravelli Frank Baum.
Sources say L.A. King's defenseman Drew Doughty,
a left ankle injury.
Initial x-ray showed a fracture,
but he's scheduled for additional imaging today.
Hope it's only a fracture.
You're lucky if it's a fracture.
If it's a, yeah.
You're praying for that.
There's some tendons and ligaments.
Ligaments.
Ligaments in there.
So not,
yeah, gross.
Feel bad.
Like Drew Doughty,
not the way you want to start your,
your season.
baseball we brought up baseball I guess I got brazen but you know teams are they're clenching they're
getting the pennant they're getting into the wild card things are going you and you fell asleep watching
baseball last night too much something chicken and ribs both both full here is if if it were to start
today now it's not playoffs are not starting today too bad but if it were this is kind of as you
look at the the wild card setup the brewers guardians fillies and astros have all clinched
their division. The Yankees, Dodgers,
Orioles, and Padres, they are all
in. And
in the wild card,
Mets, diamond backs tied for the second spot,
Braves are one back. A.L.
Wildcard, Royals and tigers are tied
for the second spot. Twins are two
back. Mariners, I don't
have a lot of, I'm not sure about the,
I'm not, uh, it feels
like they're a little too far back.
Just to guess.
You got it?
Well, I had a little, there you've got.
A little easier to them.
There we go.
Now I see it.
There you go.
Today.
Games that matter.
Royals at Nationals.
A win today puts KC in a spot to,
they can do it with another win tomorrow.
They will be it.
Orioles at Yankees.
If the Yankees beat the Orioles today,
they clinch the AL East,
a first round by and home field in the DS.
Padres Dodgers,
you watched last night.
Dodgers up by three for the NL.
It feels like it's kind of an inevitable there.
But there are a few things.
Each of the best of three wild cards,
they start October 1st, which is Tuesday.
Okay.
And then the divisional series will open October 5th.
I love the old playoff baseball.
Even last night, you could start to feel it.
Having Shohei Otani in the playoffs will be pretty good,
even if you don't like the Dodgers.
The guy is a very good baseball player.
He seems to know how to, yeah.
Very good baseball player.
Some strike out last that I was like,
yeah, doesn't happen.
Yeah.
So yeah, the tigers are in that A.L.
Wildcard.
They in Kansas City are tied for second.
They are on some kind of a heater.
I believe they've won nine of 10.
Pinder loves a good graph.
So I figured I'd throw one in,
but it shows either across the bottom.
It shows the timeline on the left.
It's your probability.
August, they're based zero.
They're out.
You're not making it.
And then as of September, there you see it,
there are 91% as of today to get into the postseason.
So they, it's a spike.
Usually, is that a good thing?
Well, it depends what you're talking about.
Yeah.
Blood pressure.
No.
Because I've seen that exact graph or something else,
but I don't remember what it was.
It definitely wasn't my portfolio.
I know that.
Investment.
It's the start of steady.
It was the start of that today.
We've been given the White Sox a hard time because they're no good.
They wrap up against the Angels tonight.
They then played Detroit, who as mentioned, are very good.
Detroit's beaten the White Sox nine times this year.
So it feels like the inevitable, but here's the thing.
They have 120 losses.
One more loss, it'll pass them in a way,
by the 62 Mets for the most single season setbacks in the modern era.
So one loss, history is theirs.
Two nights ago, they pulled out a win.
Ha ha, 119, like we're staying.
Last night, they went to extras.
Could they keep it alive against the Angels again?
This one's going to force.
What a win.
History.
Andrew Benintended delivers once again.
Ozzy Gee and former Sox manager.
Yeah, a bus.
Post game show.
You know what?
I'm just going to be honest.
That could be, you know,
Wysaw played very big.
They got the win.
Yeah.
They did a good job come back.
Everything pitching was well.
Martine was starting a game the way you should.
All the thing happened.
It can be one of the worst games I've seen a long, long, long time.
All right.
You want to save that for the postgame show?
Yes, please.
Because I have a lot of things to talk about.
This is Big League, bro.
Yeah.
All right.
This is Big League, bro.
Well.
And he would have seen some bad baseball this.
gear that's one of the words about bad game i've seen a long time i would think you talk about
yeah because the angels are how happy are the guys covering that team stay tuned for the post game show
30 30th straight loss you need shack and charles and guys like to do it because yeah they're gonna be
you need to be doing some some games arts and crafts you need like origin you got to have stuff
we're doing tonight we're knitting during the post game show we're going to do some artworks some crafts
we're doing something today.
You know, I've always kind of,
maybe it's, there's the money ball thing,
but even going back,
I've always kind of liked Oakland.
They had Konseco and they had McGuire,
and they were always kind of the,
who's that fast guy?
Ricky Henderson.
Ricky.
Yeah, Ricky.
You know, man, Ricky.
And I just kind of got watching stuff last night
because they're leaving.
They're going to Sacramento and then maybe eventually Vegas.
And, yeah, the ballpark is,
a dump and and and and but there are some people there that love that ball team that have been
there all those years and last night was the last night game at the Oakland Coliseum they play
one more game this afternoon against the Texas Rangers it'll be the last game ever or at least
as it sits and you just look at these as a guy who went through it when I was younger
when your team leaves Winnipeg,
they're going to, and you just kind of sit there
and you don't know what to say,
you're trying to drink it all in and take it all in,
you still don't believe it,
and maybe they couldn't stay.
But the owner could not seem to get things going
with the city of Oakland.
They can't agree on a ballpark,
they can't agree on this, this, this, that.
I want to soccer, I know you're the answer.
That's not the answer.
It doesn't seem like, well.
Land out.
I felt bad for these guys.
I felt bad for all these fans.
There were many tears.
Look, a father-son moment.
Yeah.
Their jerseys.
Matt?
Chapman?
Arold us?
Oh.
Yeah.
Post-game show coming out.
So yeah, last one today.
And I was hearing because we've talked about, how about that shot?
Golden Hour, upper deck, last night game.
Dude's got his Stewart jersey on.
What was his name?
A pitcher.
Played for the pitch for the J's.
Anyway.
Rod?
That's right.
Do you think I'm sexy in this baseball unit?
Sucks.
It's too bad.
You relate more to it than I would.
I think that probably I was never an Oakland fan,
so I'm not really enthralled with anything Oakland.
You don't care.
I don't.
really heartless
jack what do you think do you care
do you feel do you see those
I can recognize how important a sports team
is to its town I can't imagine the city of Buffalo
without the bills for the sabers
yeah I would be devastated if that happened to one of my teams
like if the Steelers moved
that'd be I don't know what I would do
yeah somebody had a they did like a time lapse video
of getting off the whatever the metro
or whatever they've got there and then walking into the building.
And yeah, it's an old, it's a concrete,
but it's still, it's where you've gone to watch baseball your whole life.
They're leaving.
If that's your thing, that stinks.
Yes.
And it's not, it's not like they were going in Winnipeg.
Well, they got a big, it's Phoenix, it's Arizona, it's the US, this whole thing.
Sacramento, we're Oakland.
What, how is, what's the, where's the upside?
How's this working?
What is this going?
So there you go.
Last,
last game ever.
Today.
Today.
And then they'll play road games.
And you're going to watch,
right.
The last home.
Well,
it's a one o'clock something or noon.
I'm not even sure what time.
You're darn right.
I am.
I just hope I can hold it together.
Big massive ace fan.
Motion,
emotional guy.
I actually have an awesome
Oakland jacket.
It's one of those,
like a starter jacket that sims up,
and it's embroidered with the Oakland.
And you're not wearing it.
Why?
I was going to wear it,
but it's,
you know.
Raining?
Yeah.
I didn't look at the rain.
You want to get it wet.
Get it wet.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll maybe wear it.
You know what?
I'll play.
I'll maybe wear it tomorrow.
I won't see.
Yeah, I know.
That's the,
uh,
the Pender report,
a presentation of our good buddies.
Not even a.
Snake?
No.
Oh,
you know,
okay,
before Jack's got some.
I see he had some files in there.
Idiot one,
idiot two.
He had some,
he had some files.
I'll skip that today.
You want to skip that.
skip that today? We'll hit the idiots tomorrow.
Okay, because it got somber
at the end about Oakland, is that what it is?
It's too hard to pivot.
Yeah. Let's not have it.
Make a segue to some idiots now.
All right, fair enough.
Yes, Village Honda,
Northwest Automall, VillageHonda.com.
The new Accord is an award winner.
The new Civic is an award winner.
The pilot is all,
they redesigned it for 2024,
and it's,
it's what you're because I was kind of looking at
what you think of when you see the pilot you're okay I think I know what that is
you'd look at this and think this is the pilot oh my this is
different upgrades upgrades yep you're going to like it same doors
take one oh the the yeah
there's nothing kind of like closing the door of a Honda vehicle
it's so satisfying
that's why I bring it up every time I can with you so
very happy
VillageHonda.com.
I want to talk about, well, you know what?
We'll talk about cavalry tomorrow.
Because cavalry's got it going.
Did they play here this weekend?
Retro?
You're not sure.
I don't know.
Which is why we'll talk about the cavalry tomorrow.
Sorry.
You're the worst for that.
Who did he get traded for?
For God, for Christ, but they're in.
What you need to know is Calvary.
They're third in the CPO.
And they're getting ready for it.
And you're going to want to be there to check out Cavalry FC.
They've got the pink out coming up.
They are coming off a victory 2-0 over York.
It's Vancouver on Saturday at 5 p.m.
5 p.m. against Vancouver, I believe they are two wins and draw zero losses against Vancouver.
5 p.m. at ATCO.
I'm going to take a look at the old weather app.
Yeah, I'm going to take a look.
tell you what you can be expecting on Saturday.
You're going to go?
Marco Carducci, I'm sure we'll be there.
You know what?
16 degrees.
That's fine.
Yeah.
Maybe just a nice little kind of a sweater.
Yep.
Sweeter weathered.
Your Oakland jacket.
Take your Oakland A's jacket, your zip, your zippy,
and watch them cruise by Vancouver FC as they get ready for the post season.
Team of the week.
Pender kept telling me you got to be top two.
or you want to be tough too because then you get a buyer
double elimination or something damn thing oh so you want to be
at the top of the standings thanks pender come on tommy
appreciate that thanks tips would have no idea otherwise
that you'd want to have one of the best records going into the playoffs
uh tonight we've got football
yes are you going to fall asleep and have that watch you for a while
uh no no i like the football yeah it'll keep me going
the Giants and the Cowboys.
What are the Giants?
Cowboys are kind of...
I don't think the Giants are very good, but they're coming off a win last weekend
where all of a sudden Daniel Jones...
Look great.
Capable. Yeah, he...
Everyone's pulling up the numbers.
Whose numbers of this?
Is it Daniel Jones or Trevor Lawrence?
Well, it's actually Daniel Jones.
He's...
It doesn't take long when you have one good day, but they are coming off of victory.

whatever the sport,
whatever the moment,
it's never ordinary at Bet365.
We go to our Bet365 app
to take a look at this game tonight.
And no surprise,
the Cowboys are five and a half point favorites.
But I don't know what's happening,
Rhett, the Cowboys defense
has fallen apart
no good no good they are the worst and this is one of the top five it was a top five defense last couple years
their run defense is dead last they are allowing 5.4 yards per carry in the last two weeks on the
ground the cowboy's defense 84 attempts 464 rush yards and seven touchdowns
seven rushing touchdowns hard to win
On the other side, Devin Singletary, a little bit older.
I shouldn't say he's old.
Over 59.5 rushing yards.
He has been basically the bell cow for them.
And remember last, I think he had a touchdown last week.
Remember he gave himself up at the one yard line,
dropped down so that the clock would run.
They wouldn't score, give the ball.
So he would have another on that on his touchdown total.
But this is rushing yards.
I'm going to take over 59.5 rushing yards for,
Devon Singletary against the, we'll call it Putrid run defense.
So bad that Jack dropped the Dallas defense in our, in our,
I did.
Yeah.
They're terrible.
Jesus.
They were minus points last week.
Yep.
They were costing you to have them in your lineup.
Well, the week before there were even more minus points.
Yeah.
You don't want that.
Every drive they scored.
Yeah.
They're struggling.
They have a new defense.
It's what Mike Zimmer is their new defensive coordinator.
One of their best run stoppers.
They let him walk as a free agent in the off season.
Jerry. Come on, Jerry.
Come on, Jerry. And further
to this, if you're just looking at the game, now you can go
straight up, or you can use that spread of
five and a half. Giants are one
and seven with Daniel Jones as their starter
against the Cowboys. They are one and thirteen in
prime time with Daniel Jones.
0 for 4 on Thursdays, 0 for 3 against the Cowboys.
So it would seem to, history, at least recent history, would
suggest could be a night for the Dallas Cowboys to pull out a victory.
But there's something about the-
Maybe Jonesy's coming, he's finding him so.
I don't think so.
No, I don't think that's the case.
I think is it neighbors there?
Yes.
Malik neighbors.
It's all he needed.
Hey?
Lake neighbors,
stud.
That one catch he made last week.
Unbelievable.
Up the ladder.
Catch and usually when you go slow-mo, you can say, oh, yeah,
his feet were in.
You needed to slow down the slow.
Can you zoom in?
Holy crap.
How'd this happen?
And it's just, you can,
just the tippy tips of the toes and you see the black pebbles there start to kind of,
amazing,
amazing player.
So I don't know.
I'm not a Cowboys hater.
There are a lot of people that hate the Cowboys.
We talked about this,
but I'm okay if this was an interesting game tonight.
Because we kind of got,
keep it good.
We kind of,
make it good.
Because your bills screwed us the other night out of some entertainment.
They were no.
fun and then that second game i guess depending if you had money on the uh bangles that game was also
no fun no good no good but that's how it goes but you know what it is tonight's just another opportunity
to get it back gib give give give baby bet 365 promo code fm bonus start up that that that account on
your phone in games too get oh in game all the time all the time don't just put you're not just putting
you're not just putting your oh there's kick off i guess we're done we did we get all our bets in i guess we're
done. No, you're not. No, you're not.
Because it was, yeah, that's what it was. The Giants, they were playing Cleveland,
they pooched the opening kickoff, and then Amari Cooper scored in the first play.
So they were down seven nothing. The Giants are ass. And then they ended up cruising by the,
by the Browns. I love football. It's nice to get on the coach. Yeah.
Wish it was raining out now. Even more reason for me to.
You know what I get to do tonight? You'll enjoy this.
Being a parent of...
We never heard about the two-hour mandatory either.
Well, the thing, we did the two-hour mandatory the other night.
The kid gets to do the mandatory tonight.
Who gets to take the kid to the mandatory?
Oh, you see.
The mandatory parent.
So you can sit there.
Uber.
Christ almighty.
Daddy's going to go across to the pub and have nine beer and watch the Giants and Cowboys, sweetie.
We're going to have a few wings.
Yeah.
We're going to Uber home.
Is that okay?
Yeah, I don't know.
You know what it's like.
My wife said to me, because I was getting a little hot and bothered about it.
I'm like, this is ring out.
What are we doing?
What is mandatory.
So my kid's not going to be able to play.
I've paid everything if you don't show up for this thing.
Why are you surprised?
This is the way it is now.
And she's right.
It's never easy.
Register today.
But if you don't register by this date, then the price goes up.
Well, okay.
Register.
We're going to need a cash call.
Okay.
So more of that.
All right.
Practice.
Why isn't this part of the,
yeah,
just lump it in.
As soon as you sign up,
oh yeah,
I had a cash call.
Yeah.
Why don't you just add that to the price of admission?
And this year in the ringette,
they threw in a little extra.
Oh,
and there's a mandatory ringette Alberta thing.
Yeah,
I'm right there.
Give them a little bit of cash.
It's like trying to get out of Mexico.
It's like a little bit for you,
a little bit for you.
What's going on here?
So yeah,
I went to the mandatory, and it was, they had it at a theater.
So they booked one of the little theater and things.
A PA wasn't working and the sound wasn't working.
So when you get, I got there a little bit late.
Sorry.
Maybe five, five minutes late, 10 minutes.
And I thought this would be good.
It'll be started.
But they were having technical issues.
So they hadn't started.
So jokes on me.
You got the full two.
But they had the sign up sheet.
Just put your name and your name.
And then I walked in.
it was full and there were two or three guys standing there we all just kind of looked at each other
i said our names are on the paper we have so i have signed up there is proof we were not checking
IDs yeah and then it was the boy that popcorn smells good i got to go grab some popcorn did you
guys want okay i'll be back trucks trucks are rolling baby i did get some popcorn for the road yeah well
You're there.
I got to go home.
It's got to be a good 10 minute drive from here.
Am I going to go without popcorn and pop?
Not a chance.
You just busted you.
See, I don't know what it's good.
I stayed for like a bit of a thing.
Listen,
it was their fault.
Okay,
we're going to take a break.
If everybody wants to go stretch their legs,
I'll stretch them all the way to the parking lot.
That's why we came.
I'm going to stretch them all right.
So I got it.
I got it.
I got it.
It's another one.
Wow,
this won't be good.
They'll have it all down.
Yeah, yeah.
So Jack, tonight, football, five and a half, cowboys.
Now, is this on the road?
It is.
For someone.
The giant.
Yeah, the giants are at home.
Someone, definitely.
Someone is on the road.
I can never do this show without Rett because it's those sorts of contributions.
Are they on the road?
Somebody is.
Yeah, in fairness, you're right.
Yeah, you're right.
So it's at, uh, it's in New York.
It's in New York.
Five and a half on the road.
Cowboys.
What?
Well, I'm just trying to.
Are you worried?
No, I'm trying to think where I would be.
I'm not on it.
Well, get on it.
What would I?
What would you be on if you were?
I don't trust either of those teams.
It's the problem.
It just feels like they're kind of like they are, they're almost notorious.
When you go on the cowboys, they're going to screw you.
Yes.
They are going to screw you.
Oh, so, DAC, DAC, five touchdowns, 900 yards.
Next week, you're on them.
Five fumbles, 87 yards, and a broken knee cap or something.
I've had zero luck with the Cowboys.
Their defense, it's weird.
Yeah, they've been horrible.
It really feels like one of those games or anything could happen.
Like Daniel Jones could have a good game and the Cowboys D could be dog shit again.
Yeah.
What's more likely?
The Cowboys defense improving or Daniel Jones having another good game?
the defense is because I went looking
that I was going to scoop up this Dallas.
I'm like,
well, Jack dropped Dallas and so
while the coordinator's gone
and their best run stopper is gone
and these guys are,
hmm, like they're dead last
in the NFL for
then it's giants all the way
because nobody's holding back Daniel Joan.
But what if,
you know,
what if the Cowboys get up and then Danny Dimes
got to throw it a bunch,
then that's neighbors.
Yeah.
I mean,
the Brown's D isn't horrible.
It's not terrible.
And they were able to move the ball.
Pumped them.
So, yeah, I don't have a great day.
Dable, still coaching.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, buy into Dable.
He's going to.
Easy.
I'm all over the giants.
Was it a mid-season hard knocks where they had the behind-the-scenes stuff of the GM?
Dable was there and the owner or whatever talking about losing Seekwan?
It was the off-season.
It was an off-season hard knocks.
Do you see any of that?
No.
They are, it's free agency.
and they kind of go back to Saquan
and they basically say,
we think it would be best if you go to market
and just see what's out there for you.
And then, you know, circle back.
Would you do that for us?
We have your word.
You'll circle back and talk to us before you sign on.
Well, you guys know what I want.
So it's basically, just give me the money and I'll stay.
And then things kind of go quiet.
And they're sitting in the office and the one owner says,
tell you what, I'll be pretty chapped
if Sequin ends up in
like Philadelphia or something.
Oh, yeah, I don't think that will have
and then they cut it.
I thought we were getting a call back.
Did we not?
Yeah, he's going to Philadelphia.
It's like, oh, shit, son of us.
Yeah.
Is he any good?
So far,
so far, Seekwon's been pretty good.
He's got five touchdowns in three games,
something like that.
He's been pretty good for them.
Yeah, he's been unreal.
But the Eagles are in a bad spot.
They got no AJ Brown.
Devante Smith got absolutely crushed.
Did you see it against the Saints?
Guy comes in, head hit, crown of the helmet right on his head, concussed bad left and didn't come back.
So I don't know what their passing game is going to be this week.
Anyway, we'll do our NFL picks tomorrow, which have been going so great.
You're excited for it.
I'm, so we believe I went two and one last week.
Yep.
I'm going to stay the course for one more week.
I was,
I had a,
no,
I had a plan.
I had,
I think we'll probably still get there at some point,
but I had a new methodology for how I was going to make my football picks,
but I'm not going to trot that out just yet.
I'm going to have faith in myself.
It's only three weeks.
You were very close to going one and two, though.
We had to,
we had to talk you off the Cowboys.
This is this fucking guy.
What a prick.
we did for like five minutes.
Isn't that help?
See, and I want there again.
It's the Cowboys.
I can't.
And I'll take the Cowboys.
The Ravens are rolling too.
They have to win this game.
And there again, just true to form,
Ravens, thank God I got in the Ravens.
And then the Cowboys, touchdown, touchdown.
I'm going to get it right in the tookus here.
It looked good, then it would look bad,
and then they did hang on.
So I don't know.
But yeah, I have, it's very sophisticated, too.
Oh, yes, yes.
Very sophisticated way of going about things.
But we'll maybe wait a week.
Be careful with the Ravens this week.
Wait a week.
Yeah, they got your bills.
Sunday night.
See, that's what in the thing.
I've got the Ravens defense.
I don't like the prospect of going up against the bills.
Prime time again.
Is it in Baltimore?
I believe so.
Yeah.
show a video, but it was really only going to be for your benefit.
It was, it was showing the, uh, at that blowout game on Monday night, they were playing
Mr. Brightside during one of the stoppages. And you think we're football players, do you know,
don't celebrate too early. Oh, do got to be too, but I guess when you're up by 50 at the
half or whatever it was, and they're just all, they're like playing air guitar and they're like
holding air microphones up to each other's mouse. Like, how's life? Life pretty good. You guys
You guys having a fun time.
Kincaid's just dancing around doing the frigging finger guns.
It's going to, what could go bad?
The lot could go bad.
It's Buffalo, Dean.
What could go bad?
It's Buffalo.
What could happen?
For sure, something's going to.
I got faith in them.
I think they'll be just fine.
Thanks to Matt Secaris of the Gazette for coming on.
Yes.
Check out his,
check out his blog.
Articles.
They do a good show.
They do good work.
So they had hats and stuff.
They've got their own merch.
They've got an excellent studio too.
Very nice.
Is it the wall building?
I think it's one of the big fancy.
What are you?
What am I implying?
What do you say in, Jack?
A few chords, but other than that is pretty great.
Yeah.
But I mean, the show's really good.
Right?
Yeah.
whatever we lack in set design,
we make up for in creativity and accuracy and
humor, wit.
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Well, you're not here tomorrow.
I can be for some of it if we start early
or we can't go late.
Yeah, yeah.
I think because it's your boy,
your boy's playing.
Watch your boy.
I might watch it today and be disgusted enough that I've.
Good.
Yeah, what times is that game?
we have a better relationship if dad doesn't watch yeah can't make it thanks uh for tuning in
we appreciate you have yourself a good one back tomorrow that'll do it see you buddies
