Starting point is 00:00:15 It is Friday, and we are back on Barnburner, a very special non-Hawyan T-shirt edition of the program today. Boomer is in Nashville doing a little pre-scout for our upcoming trip. But fear not. In his size eight or nine shoes, small feet, not huge shoes to fill. Let's be honest. So let's welcome in. It is myself and Rhett and Cabby, our man in studio today. We love it.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Good morning, fellas. Live studio audience. Sometimes. I get excited. Oh, you don't start hitting. So just. Like it is the block. Like Vladdy hits?
Starting point is 00:00:47 Because if that's the case, good. Not that. No, okay. Because I better move if that's the case. Yeah, bat speed high for Vladdy. Redso,
Starting point is 00:00:54 you'll have a bruise right here. So just tap. Hey, Hey, fellas, how we doing? Everyone good? Well,
Starting point is 00:01:01 your eyes are bloodshot. There's a little bit of, but I thought it would be more disheveled, to be honest. I was feeling great until about 20 minutes ago. Now I'm like, oh, they hit the wall here.
Starting point is 00:01:11 What's going on? I got back at about 1.30 last night. Welcome to the show. It's a presentation. of Bet365. Man, we hit that parley on Wednesday, too. Yes. Well done, sir.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Oh, boy. Good times. Gotta love it. We love it. We love it. Hey, your bet's never ordinary, whether it's the money line, you got puck line,
Starting point is 00:01:29 you got point spreads, player props, totals, whatever you want. Grab the app, get on it, Bet 365. I will start by asking you guys about your favorite sports trip
Starting point is 00:01:38 of your lives. I may recently have had some experience with something along those lines. Cabby, to like superstar world class athletes, but in terms of going and watching games, favorite sport trip ever, do you have one?
Starting point is 00:01:52 Oh, um, uh, FIFA World Cup in 2010. Come on. We were in, uh, Cape Town. So, and we saw,
Starting point is 00:02:02 how nice is Cape Town? Uh, it's beautiful. It's like Vancouver. That's what it's just warmer. Yeah. But yeah, just warm.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Well, I guess it depends what time of year you go. Uh, we were there. We saw Ghana play Uruguay in the quarter finals. And it was just electric. It's my first time going to the World Cup. And that would, that would, that was probably my favorite.
Starting point is 00:02:22 You have swam with sharks off Cape Town. I have. And you also have been to a World Cup. What, Germany? We were in Germany and he was six at the World Cup. So that's right. Italy won that one that year, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah. That's when the Frenchman Zadain. Oh, Zadine Zaday and the headbutts. Yeah, that was crazy. And dude fell like you got shot with a rifle. Like, come on, man. That's the one thing. We're going to see World Cup and like, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:02:45 six months. And we're going to see all that. All the drama. It's that circus again. And that's the worst part of soccer. This guy's embellishing call. I also like, I, uh, I went during the 05 lockout. I went to Yankees, Boston for the series.
Starting point is 00:03:02 And I wore, you wouldn't know, but he would. I wore, in New York, I was a Yankees fan and in boxed. And so not only is it that great robbery. It's the one series in the history of baseball teams. come back from three oh no that was at 2004 yeah okay i was there too i was there for games four and games five yeah those those are actually that's probably on the list too yeah uh if you want to get involved you can do so uh super chat throw a little money onto your comment if you're watching live on youtube we'll put it on the show all the money goes to the youth centers of calgary great cause and
Starting point is 00:03:34 our great listeners help us raise over five thousand bucks for the youth centers of calgary we're now starting year two supporting them with our super chat money um ryan you smell like seattle Seattle smells like me. And not like the Egyptian black roast that you get at Starbucks for a while. Why don't you tell us about your last 48 hours? Oh, okay. So we leave at one. Nine guys, prop plane.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Boom, we're gone. You're there pretty quick. Playing a little dice on the plane. Passing some U.S. 20s around. And you're just off to the races. Away where we go. You know, get to the hotel. Boom. Off to the ballpark.
Starting point is 00:04:09 And look, it was 02. And everyone's kind of like putting on the brave face. Like, you wish it wasn't O2. They're supposed to be favorite in this series. But it's like, you know, maybe they'll be, things will change. We're all right. And then the Seattle Mariners put up two in the first. And you're like, oh, man, like this might not be it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 But it was it. The boys got on the bats. Bieber settled in. And where did you guys sit? How do you guys get, like, you guys get nine tickets together? We sat nine in a row on Wednesday. And last night, we had a section of five and then like four rows back four. So it was just awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Blue Jays dug outside. Lots of Jays fans yesterday. And the team's just absolutely raking. He shurs her. It was like, the guy's 41. That was cool. He could blow up, but he's also a first ballot hall famer. He might be just that psycho that could do it.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And he did it. And we'll show it later in the Pinder report. But John Schneider comes out to get him and he's just like, no, like screams them down. There's a message for all the kids playing sports. Yell at your coach. Yell at your coach. Stand up for yourself. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:08 And so, you know, the city's upside down with Jay's fans. Obviously, the Mariners fans are excited. but it's, you know, it's a 40 million people that here for one team. A lot got down to Seattle. We had a big seafood spread at lunch yesterday. Like, the fellas are unreal. It was a great time. We spoiled ourselves.
Starting point is 00:05:26 It was pretty awesome. Well, it's nice that you got rested for the watch party this afternoon. Greta is right. You got to get home and get some sleep. Greta today, 408. Game five. I've showered many times and shower again. Anything that can be washed off has been washed off.
Starting point is 00:05:44 No regrets. No regrets. 408 today. Greta, watch party. Doors will be open. The alley, great viewing party there for, what was it, Jack? Was it game one against the Yankees? It was the D.S. Like the back alley? Not the back alley.
Starting point is 00:06:01 That's a little stabbier. Yeah. Sorry. I'm new. I'm new here. You are new. Yeah. Like we having, you know, when did you move to Calgary?
Starting point is 00:06:11 Like you used to. You always loved it and came out a bit. I remember you saying that. Once a year, this cool guy on team in Toronto loves Calgary. Like, yeah, that's amazing.
Starting point is 00:06:19 But you've been here four years. Like the back alley might have been a place if you had fake ID you were at when you're 17 in this. I went there once at a stampede, I think. Oh, yeah. Oh, dear.
Starting point is 00:06:28 And it was just like the loudest rock and roll music or heavy, I've ever heard in my life. I'm like, does the music change? No. No. Just guitar solos.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Yeah. So I, but the staff was quite. Yeah. They're wonderful. They're wonderful. Great HR practices. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Lots today on the show. We've got football picks coming up. We got Darren Dregor going to join us in how many minutes, Jack? I can't be trusted. Do you know what time it is? 17 minutes. 17 minutes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:59 So we're off to a good start. I haven't told you. We are in the McLeod Law LLP studios. So McLeod Law, you got legal issues. Luckily, no legal issues. There was about a, what, 50-50? We're back. I don't need a lawyer.
Starting point is 00:07:11 If you do, things happen quick. you need good advice. McLeod law. There are boys. Calgary people, boys and girls. You're not on some phone, a 1-800 number with someone in Toronto. It's Calgary,
Starting point is 00:07:23 born and raised. They understand how things rock around here. No legalese. Down to earth people. Let's go. You can understand what they say. I've talked to the people and I haven't left there confused.
Starting point is 00:07:32 So it's kind of nice. That is important, I'd think. Yeah. It can feel confusing at times. And odd for me. So I missed a Flames game on Wednesday. No, you didn't. So they didn't score a bunch of goals?
Starting point is 00:07:44 They played. You didn't miss it. Then they score a goal? I heard they got one. Is that right? Yeah. I was, I caught myself yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:52 I'm like, we're going to have to change the tone. The tone because we're getting pretty loose and it's easy to pick on a team. And they're only a bounce away from scoring. Anderson could have two more goals. Correct. A little bounce here. Maybe things will change.
Starting point is 00:08:09 It's pretty easy to pile on though. It is easy to pile on. And look, like here's the thing. like cabby i don't know how much you're around this but this team has been perpetually like mediocre they're never that bad but they're never that good and yeah you have a couple years like i think 2019 they win the west 22 you get the battle of alberta against the oilers and that team was unreal like chuck lynn holm and johnny were the best line in hockey like outscored the crap out of everyone they all had 40 goals like 100 points of two of the guys it was insane but generally speaking since
Starting point is 00:08:41 1989, they've just kind of been like, well, we're going to be seventh to 12 in the West. And you guys in 04 changed it. And there was a bit of a run there. But like, there are people here that are like, just be bad for a little bit. Like bad enough that you can go get a superstar. Let's add to that. Yeah. They work their tails up, but they need to star. What do you know what the highest draft pick ever for the flames is? I do not. I'm probably 40 years of drafting. What would you? Actually, no. The team has always been pretty good. I don't know if there's ever been a year where they're like, you know, their last to get Sidney Crosby number one overall like Pittsburgh did. So I'm going to, the highest, I'm going to say 11th pick.
Starting point is 00:09:23 No, it's been higher. Four is the highest, but they've never had a top three pick in the history of the friend. Never was. Wow. Yeah. And so meanwhile up the road. Wait, is that what you guys want? You guys want a 12 tear down?
Starting point is 00:09:32 You get McDavid's and you get dry sidels and you get these high end. All the superstars, the McKinnons, the like, look at teams that, cups and you're like, oh, okay, there's Sid, there's Malkin, there's Flurry. Like all those guys are right at the top of the draft. Because we can't sign them when free agency. They don't seem to come to Alberta. Unlike you.
Starting point is 00:09:52 You're smarter than them. You came here. See? They're tougher to negotiate with and bring to our beautiful city. And I think they have gone and got guys, but it's typically when they're good and they've got money to spend. Like, Markstrom was
Starting point is 00:10:08 top of the market when he came here. Tanna was a guy that was very coveted when he came here. But to your point, like you're just not going to sign in superstars and free agency. It almost never happens. Go get a McKenna. Like,
Starting point is 00:10:18 when you see them last in the league, where they are today, does it make you think about like, okay, Connie's going to deal with the stuff when it gets to them. Oh, he's expiring this year. I'll get,
Starting point is 00:10:28 but can you fast forward this a bit? Could you maybe have some awkward conversations with Cadre and Coleman's suitor? Well, I think you can only because I don't think Godry and Coleman are here because I think, don't get me wrong. I actually think they like Calgary. and they're comfortable here and their families like it.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Yes. But they came here for opportunity to win. Most hockey players, that's the biggest money, winning, then city and taxes and all that. I think Codry and Coleman came here because they thought the team was going to be decent. They got paid,
Starting point is 00:10:58 but they thought the team was going to be decent. They were going to have a chance to win. Yeah, and they did, to be fair. I think without that, a lot of the veteran guys are going, well, I got a couple of years left here. I want to take a stab at it again. Like, Nazar's 35.
Starting point is 00:11:12 He's got how many years left in the league? Like, there's no givens at this point. Like, at that age, at some point, father time is just like tapping you. We don't know when that is. Is it three years? Which he's got left on his deal. Is it five? Is it two?
Starting point is 00:11:25 Like, you wouldn't want to be caught holding the bag on a number two center that could help a lot of contenders that would get you a nice return at this point. We wondered about that contract and it was signed. Could you move him down the road if you needed to? He's played really well. He's an asset. And I don't think that dump of the. those guys, however you want to describe it, even if you do trade those guys, guarantees you, McKenna.
Starting point is 00:11:45 No. There's no guarantees for this. It's just you're playing the odds. It's an odds game. And look, maybe you get a little lottery luck or you don't finish dead last, but it's not like McKenna's the only guy. Like, you're talking about Keaton-Veroff playing in North Dakota, 6'5 defensemen. Like, that guy would help too.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Yeah. Like, put him and correct together for a decade to be happy. Well, you know it's a massive conspiracy, not even a conspiracy, but Gary's got handshake deals with all the teams that build the arena. You get a first overall pitch. Yeah, the islanders pick one, so they're going to win. Oh, wow. Clearly.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Pits were needed in a race, so they got one. Utah's going to get a number one soon? That's a renovation. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, renovation still. Okay, what about Buffalo? Because, like, Buffalo's got a couple of stars.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Cabby and Rets and X. They've had first overall picks. Yeah, the L.B., right? Like, I call the other catch. Sorry, I'm jumping on you a little bit. No, that's the other guy. When you get first overall, you don't want own power. As good as old power is, he's not the, uh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:12:38 that's not Sid and McKinnon. It's not celebrating. Yeah, I hear you. You want to time it well. So, which is like more, more art than science. But with,
Starting point is 00:12:50 like, with Buffalo, I know, you know, you said that team's cursed and they might just be cursed, but, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:58 Dallin and Tage Thompson might want to get the bleep out of Dodge. And if this team, if Calgary needs scoring like it does, I don't know if that's an option. And you probably have leverage a first and some, 31 other teams all over those
Starting point is 00:13:12 Fair enough, for sure. Then that's where it goes back to We're clowns. I'm just going to include you because I feel like we're brothers already. You're a clown for showing up here. Tage Thompson and Dahlene are like, where? No.
Starting point is 00:13:24 How are you talking about? Hey, man, they can, you know, you can make it work. They've made it work before. I mean, 1989, but like, listen, they can make in the run that you went on. Yeah, they need a hashik again. That helps. The goaltending helps.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And we've got the goal here with Kiprasaw. Right. They have the young. got the goal. It's interesting because we sort of have this thought, well, like if Wolf's good, like you're just not going to bottom out. But it's not really true.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Like the Islanders picked one. Yeah, they won the lottery, but they've got a good goalie. Boston has a good goalie. They were really bad. Nashville is a good goalie. They were really bad. It could still happen.
Starting point is 00:13:57 And look, it's five games. What if they go four and won their next five games? Like, now you're fine. You're back on the... But like, Stanings. Can you throw them up, Jack, just like where we are today? Because it felt like, you know, back to back to Utah.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Devin Cooley's first game. Tip your captain. We played really well. And that was a nervous spot, I think, for the organization when he had a real tough training camp. But like,
Starting point is 00:14:18 this is where they are. They're the lowest scoring team in the league and they're 32nd right now. Now, this is going to change. Like, Tampa's not going to finish 26. We know that. But it's not,
Starting point is 00:14:28 it's exactly the opposite of what we saw last year, which was a really hot start that kind of changed their fortunes. That is weird seeing them at the bottom. But again, it's only five days. Are you guys, like, concerned or are you guys like ready to reach for the panic button? I don't know if concerns are the right word because I think just a lot of this fan base is just like ready to be like, okay, we can.
Starting point is 00:14:48 We will stomach a tough season. Yes. To find a potential superstar. I guess is how I would worry. I think we've we've muddied about for long enough and that mucky middle that everyone, it's so hard to to build. and become a top caliber team. I've said it for the last year. I want to be a team or I want to have a team in the city
Starting point is 00:15:15 where you're like, this is a 10-year window of guaranteed playoffs, home ice advantage. And at the start of the year, when all the pundits are talking about it, the flames are in the top five to win the cup type of thing. When I go to Bet 365, I want the flames up there. The futures, yeah. The futures, you want to be like plus 500.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Yeah, oh, they're good. Not great value, but like it's still five to one. Not like plus 3,000. Yeah. I don't want it right now. Yeah. And then you got this new rink that's two years away now. That's not a long way.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Like it's like all of a sudden you're like, man, like maybe being like stinky bad and helping it a bit for one year wouldn't be the worst. Okay. But wait. When does who when does Huberto come back? Like, we'll be back tomorrow. It sounds like that. Huska was on, uh, I think, 590 in Toronto talking with the fellas on a hockey show. And he said, He was going to be back on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:16:06 they got a roster decision to make. It doesn't sound like it'll be a veteran. It's going to be Hansick or Gridden because you wouldn't need it to have them on waivers, I believe, by today. So it sounds like a kid will go down. And He will help, but Huberto is not a superstar. He may have been that at one point. He's not.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Well, help with some scoring, at least setting up some plays. That's not going to hurt. He's your points leader. He's going to help you. Like, make no mistake about it. But I don't know if you go from 32nd in the league to. About up to fifth. Sixth.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Yeah. Because of Huberto. Yeah. Fair enough. Okay. You guys said you'd met before. I didn't realize that. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:41 We hang out all the time. Well, I mean, we met one time. And I was, I was pleasantly surprised at, A, the, like, the number of stories that he, that he had, like, has in his back pocket. And just the, not the complexity, the, the colorfulness of the stories. Which I don't, I don't know if you guys are really shared with the audience. The stories have been told. Okay. Well, are you going to know.
Starting point is 00:17:06 be a Greta for this watch party? I would have, but I've got other things that might actually. So when people see them out in the wild at a game or whatever, then ask Red for some like some premium stories because he has them in his back. No, you know, we had, I think it's probably
Starting point is 00:17:22 in like 12 years. We've worked together almost maybe 14, somewhere in there. And it's like over the years, you're like, man, we got a rollad decks of stories. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yes. I can imagine. Yeah. Do you want to do football picks now, Jack? Do we have time where we had here? Did you do picks?
Starting point is 00:17:37 I did. Are you good at this? I'm awesome. The records are terrible. He's one of us. This is beautiful. Yes. I'm Ruth.
Starting point is 00:17:46 This is your circus. We're let's go. Basically, you should fade us. Whatever we suggest, you should just go the opposite. If you're fading us the whole season, you'd be sitting on an island right now.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Fade the Barnberger crew. If we're ready, we'll do it. Again, Bet 365, grab the app. Never ordinary at Bet365, whether it's the money line,
Starting point is 00:18:05 whether it's points, spreads, player props, live in game betting. It's all there for you. And the boom cat did them all yesterday. He did us. Did he film a little video for us? Yep. Jack, how was, do we have the boomer picks? We could do that. We played it yesterday.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Okay. So he picked every single game. No. Yes. He's won for one? Wait, what? How does it? So how does that math?
Starting point is 00:18:26 We picked three games. But he said he picked every game. He has been so bad that he's trying to catch us. He's playing a little kid all the game. And catch us is relative. like no one's 500 we've been dog shirt like it's not been good at all uh well this is where it turns the tide all right let's turn it's week seven or whatever week six a week seven whatever we're in week seven rashi rice week he's back oh man chiefs are about to go to sixth gear yeah yeah let's see we got
Starting point is 00:18:55 you go first uh you got the graphic for us uh i like the commanders against the cowboys because i think the cowboys just hey jerry it's just a gear he's got the boys rolling as our rave rat famously said a few weeks ago and I don't know what they've been rolling, but it might be doobies because they've not been that good. Seahawks, I just like them more than you're in Seattle. So, yeah, Seattle's very good, boys. Love Seattle. Taking them at home and then Tampa Bay on Monday against Detroit. We've really liked the bucks this year. The Lions kind of got spanked by the Chiefs. I don't know if the Lions don't win this. I just think Tampa Bay keeps it close. Those are my three picks for this week. and I believe I got a Monday nighter in there, if not two of them.
Starting point is 00:19:38 So we'll have to wait until Tuesday to recap. Retro, what do you got? I don't have any reason, usually, for what I pick. But I feel like the Jags have been decent. And I got a couple of Jags on my fantasy team. So I got to go to Jags. Or you got, uh, yep, Etienne in here. Who, uh, who's the other, um, Lawrence, maybe?
Starting point is 00:20:00 You got, uh, Brian Thomas Juniors. Brian Thomas. BTJ, he's good. This is how dialed in. Yeah, he was a huge fantasy head. That's right. The Falcons screwed over my bills last week, and they won't do it again. I'm just going to, I'm praying the Niners find that hard soul that they had a couple
Starting point is 00:20:16 weeks ago. The Rams that they, uh, they battled. So I'm going to take the Niners. Do we have Purdy back this week, Jack? Sounds like he's questionable. He's questionable. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:26 And Brock. So is Juan Jennings, I think. Also, question one is like playing with five broken ribs or something. I have no. I have no idea why I'm taking the Raiders, other than there's a 12 beside them. That's the only thing I'm thinking. Divisional rival, you know.
Starting point is 00:20:39 And I hate the Patriots and the Titans will have a new coach. That's right. It's always an inspiration. I always want to play good for the new coach. I'm going with the Titans Plus. And you're going to Nashville. Oh, are you going to be at that game or around? So we have a Barnburner trip and we've got like 30 months since coming with the end of the month.
Starting point is 00:20:59 We fly in on Halloween night. Oh, that sounds amazing. Flames Predators. matinee on Saturday, back to Broadway, and then Sunday, Titans Chargers, then back to Broadway. And then we file. Oh, my gosh, dude. I'm actually surprised that you have a voice, considering you were just at a screening blue jays.
Starting point is 00:21:17 He is a professional because, like, I came back in, you sound great. Great's a little overstating. Why don't you walk us through your picks, though, Cabby? These are mine? These are mine. Oh, sorry. I'll go last. Cabby, you go.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Okay. Colts. Indiana Jones love him Michael Pittman Jr. I just don't trust the Chargers so I went with like I'm a big chargers guy and I can road dog yeah I went with the Jets at home because Aaron Glenn and they can't be they're 0 and 6 and this dude has been in this position before with the
Starting point is 00:21:49 Detroit Lions in 2021 and he was the defensive coordinator for and that was a season where Dan Campbell's like we're going to rip you know bite knee cap and they were like three and 13 or three and 14 whatever it was So he's been in this spot before. And I think guys are just going to like either fight each other at halftime or rally and beat the Panthers. Shout out to Chuba Hubbard, who I think returns. I think we returns this week.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Yes, he's back. But Rico Dowdow has just been an absolute monster on the field. And the Vikings, listen, Philadelphia got spank last week by Scatibo and Jackson Dart. And I trust Brian Flores' defense with the Vikings. So that is my pain. Listen, this is not betting advice. This is just, these are just some, again, fade us.
Starting point is 00:22:38 And thank us later. Okay. I like the underdogs this week. All right, Jackie, what do you got? I'm with Cabby on the Colts and the Jets. Let's go, Jack. The Colts are just a better team. Sure right.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Chargers. I'll take them in LA plus one and a half. The Jets, they stink so bad. But it just feels like they got to get wins at some point. So we'll take them here against the Panthers. And I'm on the commanders against the, Cowboys. Commanders need to win. Big division game here to three and three. I like them. They missed Jaden for a couple weeks, but he's back. He's back.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Yeah. I think C.D. Lam's back for the Cowboys, but that sounds right. Yeah. This is a good spot. Lamb says he's ready to go. Pickens and Lamb back together. We'll see how that goes. And Dax's playing at an MVP level. So not to not to close shade at your pick. It should be a great game. Hopefully not 40 to 40 like it was in game one or week one again or week two against the Packers. Yeah, no one likes a tie. Who? too. Okay, well, I'm Dreger in any moment. He joins us on the Crystal Waters. Guest hotline. Cabby, air conditioning, a must in the summer. Yes. Winter, make sure your furnace is ready to rock. We're in that transition now. It's getting cold.
Starting point is 00:23:45 And garage heaters right now is the move. If you want to not have a frozen vehicle, you want to do a little man cave, maybe throw a little dartboard back there with beer fridge. Whatever it is. Talk to our pals at Crystal Waters, your crystal clear choice for home comfort in Calgary. what do we want to lead with Dregs with today? Like I feel like we're the flames and what are we doing here? Might be the, I don't, I mean, give them one and then we'll move. We'll do some flames for sure. I also.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Can it be salvaged? Yeah. We've got to go out east a little bit. Washington's played well. I'm a little surprised by that. I thought maybe they'd fall off. And you know what? You weren't super bullish on Schaefer, but he's looked awesome apparently.
Starting point is 00:24:24 I didn't say that. Did I? Well, I think it was like, it was just more of the, like, played? It was more of like the is he the Owen Power one overall of the Sydney Crosby? I was worried about it. I was worried that in that World Junior game he just ran into the goddamn net and hurt himself. How good can
Starting point is 00:24:40 he be? He had the net. He's apparently been awesome. I haven't seen the aisles yet, but like he's all over the highlight reel. He scored his first goal. He's got a point in his first game and they're not great. He's been working. Let's talk oilers. I know you love talk oilers. I never heard of his legs.
Starting point is 00:24:56 I think we should talk about. Did you watch the Bouchard stuff? Oh, yeah. He got cooked. He got cooked. Okay. This was when last night? Last night in Long Island. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:25:06 Oh, he was special. I'll try and find the clip. He was real good. He's here, by the way. Okay, good. Let's get to it. Even his teammates are like, well, so good. Wait, stuff is coming out of the dressing room or like literally.
Starting point is 00:25:18 They were just saying that yes, he makes mistakes, but he does lots more. That's really good, too. Let's get to it. Our insider is here, Darren from TSN, joining us on a Friday. Drake, we've got Cabby with us today. And he is a Calgary. He's one of us. He's nearly dead because he was in Seattle for two nights.
Starting point is 00:25:39 So be careful. Yeah. I'm listening to the segment. I'm looking at Cabby. The man never ages for starters. Appreciate you. Thank you, sir. And man, it's memory lane for me, right?
Starting point is 00:25:52 Cabby was a one-take wonder back in the big studio at T.S. I'm not sure that that's true, right? Why take? Hey, guys we just sit in the hallway when cabby was taping some stuff and we just a lotpads we'd be taking notes going okay that was pretty smooth you know the mannerisms the gestures the way you can look over here off camera that cabby is top natural i i appreciate the embellishment but i'm a 47 take wonder i think i held them up multiple times what is this guy going to get out of the studio and i'm recording links for
Starting point is 00:26:26 That's all, time he presents. These guys are, like, what is this freaking dude? Five lynch shouldn't take 45 minutes. So thank you for the embellion. Anytime, man. Anytime. Great to see you. How are we doing?
Starting point is 00:26:39 Well, back at 1 a.m. this morning from Seattle, it was absolutely electric. I'm sure you've been paying attention. Yeah. The Js felt like they might be out on a long walk here against Seattle. It was not going to go well until it went very, very well. And all of a sudden, it's 2-2. So have you been watching? Is it got your attention?
Starting point is 00:26:57 Well, it kind of does, yes. So just give you an example of the hype that's around this team. And not just, you know, obviously Blue Jays fans hype. It's real. It's North American and it's global. So we had a regional game last night in Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. And I'm battling something. You guys know me.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I'm the king in the mute switch because I'm always coughing, clear in my throat. I've always got something going on. So I can feel the tick. in my throat all the way through this game. Second intermission, part of my job is to do an insider trading segment with James Duffy. All right, well, he's going to the highlights, what's going on around the NHL. And just as he's getting into him, I can feel something common. And I don't know, Rhett, maybe you don't know this because you haven't been a broadcaster most of your life.
Starting point is 00:27:48 But for those of us who have, that's nightmare stuff, right? There's nothing I can do about it. So Dothi looks over to me as he's about to come into the segment to say, Darren Dregor joins us now, mini insider trading. And Dregs, let's talk about the Leafs and Keith Belly and da-da-da-da. I can't even open my mouth because I know I can't talk. Oh, my vocal cords have seized. So he actually starts telling the story that I'm supposed to tell.
Starting point is 00:28:17 He doesn't very, I mean Dothi's the best, right? So that buys me about 20 seconds. I try and hack it out. well then he looks at me and goes you good and I'm like yeah I think I'm yeah the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to go all in this year like I like I can't straighten out
Starting point is 00:28:36 so the only thing that saved me back to the Blue Jays was obviously the game is going on the Jays game is going on and I was sure I was going to get torched on social media or you know is Dregor alive that kind of stuff I mean I think maybe 10 people notice so
Starting point is 00:28:53 everyone was watching the game. I want the Jays to go to the World Series. They saved me last night. Jack texts about the Steelers game last night to our group chat. And I'm like, Jack, nobody's watching the afternoon. No one is watching the ice. No, no. The 41-year-old people were watching.
Starting point is 00:29:10 It was not Flacco and Rogers. It was sure as their last night. We'll start with the flames. They're last in the league right now that had a real tough time scoring goals. What should the level of concern be? Or is there maybe a different way to look at it where it's like, hey, this could be high pick this year, which could be helpful. Well, there are five games in, right?
Starting point is 00:29:27 So nobody's pushing a panic button, but all of the things that we talked about coming into the season are real right now. And they can change. They can flip on a dime here. And, you know, maybe 10 games from now we're having a completely different conversation. It sounds like Hubert O is going to be good to go as early as the weekend here. So that'll be good news for the Calgary Flames. There should be because they can't score.
Starting point is 00:29:50 Their offense is dried up. again, an area that everybody knew was going to have to pick up where it left off at the end of last year. I don't know how you guys would rate goaltending. Cooley looked not bad. I mean, he didn't have a very good preseason, but he didn't look bad. Dustin Wolf is the savior for the Calgary Flames, as he was last year. And I think this is fair in saying that, you know, aside from the first game, he's been average. And unfortunately, when you're not scoring and collectively, your goaltending isn't standing.
Starting point is 00:30:21 on its head and bailing you out of games, you're not left with much. So I wouldn't say that it's panic time yet in Calgary, but five games from now, 10 games from now, if they're still in the same situation, they're not scoring, the goal-titting is this, and it can't keep the puck out of their own net, then, yeah, I think the level of concern, at least inside that organization, is going to climb. I know Rasmus has been the big talking point all year, we don't need to get too far into it, but like, do you see a world where a trade in the fall makes sense? or is this league always just going to be like new year, see where the standings are,
Starting point is 00:30:56 you get better values at the deadline? Yeah, I mean, that's the way I would still lean. But we also know when you get to US Thanksgiving, many teams look at what they have or don't have, and they're like, all right, maybe we need to do something a little bit more drastic. But the only way that you trade Rasmus Anderson, I think, at that stage, is if somebody steps up with a premium. I know that going into the season, both the player and,
Starting point is 00:31:21 the Calgary Flames thought that they just leave it settled for a while. And we're also open to the idea that, hey, if things go well, maybe better than expected, you know, the door is always open. Now, the smart money is on Erasmus Anderson trade, and that hasn't changed for me. But there is still that remote possibility that he extends. I mean, you guys be the judge. You know, you scrutinize the flames a lot closer than I do. He looks pretty good to me, right?
Starting point is 00:31:51 I mean, I know he went into training camp with the right frame of mind through the preseason. You know, he can be a bit of a smart alec from time to time, but he's a gritty dude with a great personality. He's very, very good in that room. But how motivated is he? And in part, that helps explain why he's playing the way he's playing. I think he's playing very, very well. You know, he's in a contract here.
Starting point is 00:32:15 And he wants to make sure that he's putting himself in the best environment to collect that big contract, either from Calgary or from another club, and to make sure that the trade interest in him stays as high as it's ever been. And I think that's all real. Okay. Ret was talking about Evan Bouchard just before you got on. He's one of those polarizing defensemen, incredible offensive instincts and a guy that you're just left scratching your head sometimes at the mistakes, the D-Zone. There are beauties yesterday. And he's got four years. He's got his new deal from the Oilers. And this team will be measured in the spring, not now. but like it's an interesting talk point.
Starting point is 00:32:53 They lose to the Islanders last night. Well, look, and I know people who watch that game very, very closely, and it's up there. It's up there with one of the worst showings in a long, long time. And I, you know, I think what frustrates people from time to time, probably fans more than anything, is how calm Bouchard can be when he's making those colossal mistakes. Right?
Starting point is 00:33:20 it's almost like, yeah, yeah, no, okay, well, stuff happens. I'll be better next shift. And then, no, you're not better the next shift. And it was just a calamity of errors last night for Evan Bouchard for the Oilers. I mean, but, you know, again, in fairness, you do measure the body of the work. He's one of those players that seems to attract more negativity. But when he's playing and when he's going, man, he is just lights out good, especially offensively.
Starting point is 00:33:48 The problem with his resume is, you know, his blunders defensively are just next level, their next level. And that was one of those last night. And with all due respect, I mean, Evan Bouchard obviously is in the Olympic conversation. For sure, he would be and deserves to be. But how many games like that can you put together early in the season before management of Canada goes? I can jump in on that? Because I don't think there's any way you can take him to the Olympics. Olympics. And I'm not saying that because you can't run the risk in a one game scenario where this guy turns the puck over just haphazardly.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And I get how good he is. But there's too many other good players as good that don't do that. Yeah, I'm with you. It kind of feels like P.K. Subanded me a bit. Like this is a very, very high ceiling offensive guy, but they just wondered about like, geez, like, is there too much risk in terms of the defensive play? You don't need the. His offensive upside doesn't override his mistakes in that type of scenario. The Oilers and when you're doing an 82 game season and absolutely.
Starting point is 00:34:55 In a short tournament, no way. No. No, and then, you know, you're not going to take him primarily for the power play for that big shot from the point. Because you have other players who are terrific power play quarterbacks in the HL. Yeah, of course, of course. You know, and how much times are you going to get, you know, on that power play anyway? Yeah, I mean, it's, it's, I recall, as we're having this conversation back to 2010, and a lot has changed since then, but that was Eisenman and Babcock.
Starting point is 00:35:25 And their design of Team Canada going into Vancouver was not, hey, we need to flood our roster full of players who were going to be gamebreakers and outscore our mistakes. It was exactly the opposite. And you look up front, all the centermen that they had on that team, right? But more importantly, their philosophy going in, and maybe it was a mistake. but hey, Crosby scored the golden goal and it worked out well in the end was we're fine with winning a 2-1 hockey game. We're good with that. We need to be able to defend, keep the puck out of our net, and get the greasy and timely
Starting point is 00:35:58 goals when we need that. So I think that speaks to the Canadian roster in many different forms, but doesn't bode well for guys like Kevin Bouchard. Do you want to talk about the Olympics? Because what's going on with the rank over there? I heard that it's an absolute disaster and that it's like this, it's not even clubbed. Yeah, well, I mean, the United Hell, the PA, the IOC would have you
Starting point is 00:36:20 to believe, oh, no, no, there's nothing to see here. Everybody move on. It'll be fine. You know, that's because they don't like the idea of fear mongering, because what happens when that narrative gets out there? The reality is the facility is not ready. And I had a conversation with somebody close
Starting point is 00:36:36 to the international scene this morning who say it's not even close to being ready. They're hoping that it could be ready as early as December, and they're hoping that they'll be able to have a test event in the facility in January. But let's just play that what if game for a moment. What if it isn't ready?
Starting point is 00:36:52 And what if they're not able to test it in January? I mean, we're talking about NHL players here, the best of the best, flooding into Italy to play on the ultimate world stage. So I'm sure that the PA and the NHL will continue to push as hard as they can, you know, push the IOC directly, you know, push the NHL to push the NHL to push. the IOC directly. I know that Canada, I think it was Pete DeBoer was part of the entourage. He's got some time on his hands now.
Starting point is 00:37:24 He was part of the entourage that was in Italy a week or two ago. So they would have had a firsthand look at where the facility is, the accommodations and all of that. But it's a growing concern. I mean, it doesn't have to be top notch. I mean, there are some sacrifices that every Olympic athlete has to make, including the mega millionaires of pro sport, national hockey league, all right? But we're talking about maybe sacrificing some creature comforts. You know, maybe you don't have the king size bed, you know, that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Obviously, in the Olympic Village, you don't have that. But come on. Your arena, your venue to play on and compete on has to be up to snuff. otherwise it gets to be potentially dangerous. I don't know. So we'll have to watch it almost week by week. And that's just not my thoughts. I heard someone else talking about this.
Starting point is 00:38:20 You could put up boards and ice and the guys could go play. But if the infrastructure to produce a show and send that across the country and for people to watch, why the hell is the NHL going over there if they're not going to get anything out of it, right? Like if that's not in place, okay, we got boards and we got. and they're playing. Yeah, but we can't run a camera and broadcast this event. Like, I heard that that's part as big an issue. Probably.
Starting point is 00:38:51 Yeah, probably. And look, you know, again, it was not a shoe in slam dunk that Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League were going to reach agreement to have the National Hockey League players go back to the Olympics. And a lot of what we've just talked about, I'm sure, was on the high list of concerns that the commissioner's office had. Now, Marty Walsh and the National High League Players Association has felt strongly for a considerable amount of time
Starting point is 00:39:19 that NHL players had to go back to the Olympics. Connor McDavid, the faces of the sport internationally wanted to compete best on best at the Olympics. Okay, well, they got that. There were concessions made by NHL owners to make it happen. So now, you know, I'm thinking that, Commissioner, Batman was like, yeah, Marty, I told you, man. It's one thing when the Olympics are in North America, and we control the environment,
Starting point is 00:39:48 and keep in mind, that's, that's an NHL-sized arena. It's supposed to be. So, again, I'm repeating myself, but I'm sure that both the League and the Players Association are keeping closed tabs on this. I expect it'll get done. It'll have to get done. But as we're having this conversation today, there are some concerns. We won't hear about it for Ted.
Starting point is 00:40:10 years of how bad it was. They'll still present it. It'll be a fire. 30 for 30, Doc. This is the story of every Olympics. Summer and where venues aren't ready. Like, there was not a roof on the swimming thing at Athens. They always find a way they play the anthems. We start to cry and we fall in love with it all. Like, it's just
Starting point is 00:40:26 it's always late because it's the Olympics and it's always. The rooms in Sochi, you had like terrible, they're terrible accommodations. The doors are like falling off and stuff like to make out like it was worse than IKEA quality. Sure. Sparge. Ikea. I love a good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Sorry. Have you seen much as Schaefer? The reviews have been raved from his early, early action, the first overall pick from last summer with the Islanders. Yeah, I love this kid. And what's not to love? I guess I'd be, though, firmly in the camp of, okay, let's just pump the brakes here.
Starting point is 00:40:57 You know, let's let this kid develop and see where he gets. But when you have an NHL coach, Scott or Neal, the Winnipeg Jets, who made the comparison to Kail McCarr. Now, he's talking purely from a skating, perspective. And in fairness to Arnie, you know, he's talking about a real minute sample size of watching this young man and seeing what he saw firsthand against the Winnipeg Jets. So I'm okay with it. I mean, this kid has an abundance of confidence in a good way. He's not a cocky person. It's not a cocky hockey player, but he's not afraid to show his skill set. So I am,
Starting point is 00:41:36 I am looking forward to seeing how he develops. And it feels like he is ultimately, if you want to really long-term project, it feels like he's somewhere in that, you know, Quinn Hughes, Kale McCar sort of category. But if he develops to that level, you know, is he going to have the explosiveness of McCar? Probably not. That's a tough one.
Starting point is 00:41:59 But maybe he defends as well as Quinn Hughes does. I mean, if he's a combination of both those two superstar defensemen, then Schaefer is going to turn out to be elite, and he's certainly on that path. That's amazing. You mentioned, or Ryan mentioned, Rasmuch- Anderson being in the final year of his deal. Michael, Caprizov,
Starting point is 00:42:18 Kyle Connor, re-signed with their teams. Martin Naches is in the final year. That's right. The final year of his deal. How heavy do you think the bag will weigh for him on July 1st? And he's going to get in Colorado. Either Colorado or some other team.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Well, they didn't want to pay random. Now it was like they're going to have to pay. same amounts keep Natchez if they're going to keep them Dray. Absolutely. Absolutely. And frankly, you know, it's the cost of doing business. But, you know, Marty Natchez is going to have to probably make a decision here, right? You know, Kurokaprizov wasn't taking less than he knew he was worth. And his agent was demanding, okay?
Starting point is 00:42:56 Well, that's fine. You know, he got that from the Minnesota Wilde because he also did he had considerable leverage. The Minnesota Wild are unique in that. they recognize that they can't ever replace Capriza. I don't know that the Colorado Avalanche feel the same about Marty Natchez. They certainly didn't about Mika Rantan. And that's why Mika Rantan was surprised as anyone when he was traded. You know, he felt like, as he said, he felt like there was a negotiation that really was just getting started until it was over and he was being dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Starting point is 00:43:30 So this is the one thing that interests me, though, guys, not to make this. it's always about the numbers. When it comes down to star and superstar players, of course, it boils down to the numbers. What does the structure of the deal look like? How much signing bonus money is Marty Natch is going to be able to draw out of the Colorado Avalanche? But Colorado is also one of those teams, which is interesting considering how wealthy ownership is in Colorado, one of those teams that is pretty budget sensitive. Not necessarily cap sensitive. There's a difference there, right? And we're going to see that. that gap between the haves and the have-nots,
Starting point is 00:44:08 I think we're going to see that increase over time here. So the salary gap jumps to 104 next year, 113 the year after that, and then it'll climb exponentially after that. And I've had owners recently tell me, owners for big teams in the NHL, that's their concern. The health of the league is terrific,
Starting point is 00:44:28 but the gap is widening because there are teams like Colorado that aren't going to spend it. Now Colorado's done an excellent job. job of keeping their nucleus in place, making tough calls as they did on rent. And then let's see what they do on Marty Natchez. It feels like they've kind of got to make that deal happen. But they're more or less a budget team.
Starting point is 00:44:47 So it could get interesting. How does these, because the Sabres can't pay $110 million. No, they don't generate. But I don't know the implications in the CBA of how, is there revenue sharing? There is. So that you can get there. Yeah. There is.
Starting point is 00:45:03 alone can't and is that going to move teams around like this i was actually going to ask because it's personal interest and i played with sabers i love the sabers yeah what the hell are sabers going to do this year and long term because these are issues yeah and there's always the sale rumors around the buffalo sabers with terry pagula right always they're always out there i mean we know he owns the buffalo bills his primary focus all of that um he's committed to the buffalo sabers but i get two of those extent. Yeah, I get two of those a year. And, and, you know, if they're brutal again this year and changes are imminent in the front office, then, then maybe we're having a different conversation towards the end of the year. I need somebody way smarter than me with a commerce degree to
Starting point is 00:45:50 do a full, one feature on the changes that are made to the revenue share system. I know changes have been made. Significant changes have been made. So small, Smaller market teams like Buffalo, 100% the Winnipeg jets are protected. I just, I don't know what the mechanisms are to make that so. And how does that translate into hard dollars? Like what are we talking about?
Starting point is 00:46:16 How many millions of dollars in revenue sharing do those teams take out? I don't know, but I know for Winnipeg specifically, it was a real big deal in renegotiating, the collective bargaining agreement and getting that element included. Big deal in the sense that long-term survival in Winnipeg was more or less on the line. What's hot around the league?
Starting point is 00:46:43 Like what are you getting calls on? What are you watching? Kevin Adam's seat is hot. Yeah. And back to Buffalo. Like, geez, it's owner, it's GM, it's coach. It's 14 years of no playoffs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:53 What are you going to do with Tage Thompson? Alex tuck his deal is up. Yeah. You know, look, I mean, one game, you score eight goals doesn't erase all of the woes and and you know maybe that gives a bit of relief in that market from a fan base perspective but they're still feeling it no question about that well part of the thing what isn't part of it just the way they came out like it wasn't even that they didn't score there was no it was flat flat and no compete no compete i mean your coach early on
Starting point is 00:47:25 is going jesus christ we can't these guys don't even try like i'm saying that but it's came across that way. It 100% did, but you know what? But people around the league notice that. I'm talking about other coaches, other executives and players, right? Your general manager is the architect of your roster, supported by ownership. Your coach coaches, that's what he does. At the end of the day, it's the guys with the skates on that control how hard they compete
Starting point is 00:47:52 and what their execution looks like. Kevin Adams doesn't control that, but Kevin Adams has had a tremendously long, runway as general manager in Buffalo. So if he gets dispatched, he cannot look back and go, yeah, I didn't have enough time. I didn't have the autonomy that I needed. I mean, that's, you know, so, and, you know, does it help or does it hinder when you've got Yarmal Ke Kalainen who's just sitting there? It reminds me when Easter was here.
Starting point is 00:48:23 And they had barrel and it was like, why is this guy taking my job? Like it's got to be a disconcerting for Adams. Yeah. So what, you know, to answer your question about what's hot around the league, I mean, really it's part, in part Buffalo, in part Calgary, the teams that have sag great out of the gate. L.A. L.A. is surprising.
Starting point is 00:48:46 Yeah, no question about that. But then you look at on the flip side, I think we all thought Detroit was going to be better. I think we all thought that maybe the Montreal Canadians had made a step, right? Did anyone think the New York Rangers were going to be, this bad. Shut out three in a row at home. You know, they were two at all on the road going into Toronto and they earn a point against
Starting point is 00:49:07 the Leafs because of the overtime loss. But they just, they can't score, which is mind boggling, really. But for me, they're a bit of an outlier because I'm a disciple of Mike Sullivan. I think he's a fantastic head coach. So I think this is the tinkering and he's going to find a way. So the hot stuff around the league, because of some of these poor starts is, you know, you do look at Florida, you know,
Starting point is 00:49:30 now they've got four guys with long-term injury. With the ad of Kulikoff and NoSec. You know, they pick up Subrango off waivers, but, you know, that's not going to move the needle much. So what's Billy Zito going to be up to? And then you add the Brady Kachuk,
Starting point is 00:49:46 you know, surgery onto his right thumb into that equation. And Ottawa was another team that has been sagging out of the game, right? Chemistry isn't there. The execution isn't there. You know, but you can't wave your magic wand and bring in a high-level player. You don't replace the players that I've just talked about,
Starting point is 00:50:05 but that doesn't mean that there is multiple conversations happening with many general managers about some of the possibilities that could be in play down the road. Yeah, fair enough. What's the weekend look like for you, Dregg? What are you going on? You get some meat on the small baseball? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Yeah, baseball, football. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I don't know. We'll see if that plays out. I hope so. Yeah, baseball, football and just hockey. That's all I do. My kid moved out, moved west.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Really? Yeah, so the smoker, I'm going to have to get creative. There's nothing worse than putting, like, a piece of meat like that big on a smoker. Forget it. Like, you know, I guess I could put a big punk on there and just share it with the neighbors. Not big blonde, but that's, you know. That's your short friend bus you got there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Awful. Thanks for joining us. Always appreciate it, Gregs. Have a great weekend. Yeah, you too, guys. Thanks. Enjoy the games this weekend. Appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:51:06 All right, there's Darren joining us on the Crystal Waters guest hotline. Again, heated garage, better than a not heated garage. Actually quite affordable to get it done. Don't have that ice box of a vehicle waiting for you when the winter comes quick. Crystal Waters has solutions for all budgets,
Starting point is 00:51:21 including financing and affordable payment plans. They're your crystal clear choice for home comfort, call them 403-219-4100 or check them out online at crystal clear calgary.com it's weird it's like not trade season and we that's what you want to talk to the insiders about it's like it's early it's five games yeah it's like overreaction it sounds like you guys are a concert like it's we the way that you're you're speaking about your beloved calgary flags well i don't know it's just like we saw this group work so hard to get to 96 points last year it's remarkable that they could do that with that roster but they're just
Starting point is 00:51:57 Is this not what you had in the start of November or mid-November? I was expecting it to be like, oh, are we going to, this is, we get a lot of games left, Gabby, like 60 to go here and where we are nowhere near. And they played their asses off. And it was like, this is awesome. Yeah. And Wolf was good. And they were battling.
Starting point is 00:52:17 And you're like, you know, you got to give them credit. They are, they're earning it. It's the kind of team you want to cheer for as a fan because they're leaving it out on the ice. Yeah. But there's a but. But the talent level, the effort level, awesome. The talent level, you just don't match up with the high-end teams. And it's got to be a combination of effort and talent.
Starting point is 00:52:44 But so I guess we've been anticipating a fall off, expected it last year. I fully expected this year. And if they can prove me wrong, grand, great. but I think it's going to be a lot harder. And I think there's actually expectations in that room this year. Yeah, they're talking about 97 points. They lost by a time. And last year,
Starting point is 00:53:06 and I don't know how much that plays into it, but last year was a clean slate. It was like, I don't know what we're going to be. Let's just go try and see what happens. I think this year's different where there's a little bit more pressure. They think they're good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:20 They should think they're good. Well, you sure. And every team. But yeah, like when do they have doubt? because they believe, but you can't keep believing if you're winning one out of every five. At some point, you're like, oh, this isn't the year we thought we were going to have. I was watching the chase, episode one, Husk said they just need one to four more points this season, 96 last year, 97 to 100 this year to get in the play.
Starting point is 00:53:44 But, okay, so you're my question, do you guys, like, give them, or how much grace do you give them? Because, like, there weren't the two back-to-backs already in the early in different cities? Tough teams. Like it's, yeah, tough teams. It's not like a, you're not playing, you know, Buffalo and, I don't know, Tampa or the Rangers in the first. You know, it's like the schedule's been, hasn't been that friendly. So do you allow some grace for these guys?
Starting point is 00:54:11 Yeah, I think like no one's going to come down hard on these guys if they don't meet the playoffs. I don't think a lot of people look at the roster and say it's good enough. Like their top line looks like a second line. They've got great depth in the bottom half of their roster, but they just don't have stars. Yeah, I think there's a reality to it. I actually don't think. There's no disappointment.
Starting point is 00:54:27 It will be easy and it'll be convenient to be able to pile on some days. But there's actually no harsh criticism of it because you can look at that roster and go, this is what they are. I don't think they didn't have effort in any of the games. I think they were outclassed by the Oilers for the first half of the game. They came around and worked hard at the second half and got some very fortunate breaks. They had a tough travel day back to Vancouver. And Wolf wasn't himself.
Starting point is 00:54:55 and that's fine. 1-1 going into the third. It's fine. They were still trying. I think against St. Louis, they had effort. They couldn't put the puck in the net. Against-
Starting point is 00:55:04 Vegas. They are up. If Anderson scores, it's 3-1 instead of 2-1, and maybe it changes things. Close. And then you're back-to-back and go to Utah for a tough game.
Starting point is 00:55:16 A big question was Cooley. He actually played well. You just couldn't score again. I don't think they haven't tried. And as a fan and as a guy watching, I'm okay with that. If my team is out there actually giving an effort, it's fine. This is not watching The Sabres.
Starting point is 00:55:30 It's not like, look at all these young stars, why isn't it working? It's the exact opposite. Like, you got a lot of barn painters, not a lot of Van Gogh's here, right? Like, you're painting, but it's, it's not, you're not dealing with this, you know, phenomenal line, wealth of, like, riches and talent. Like, you're just not. They're going to be a blue-collaring hardworking team. Yeah, they're going to win three to a tough time scoring goals.
Starting point is 00:55:52 It's going to be tough for them to. If it's full-flets in three, like, it's just feeling. like, well, they're not going to win that one. And we've seen in the NHL two off, we are five games. They could absolutely rattle off. The four and one, sure. If they win three in a row, well, go.
Starting point is 00:56:06 We're right here. So it's not, it's not. Waving a different flag on next, call it next Wednesday. Here's the thing for us. I won't wave a different flag because I don't truly believe that without some very fortunate or some kid that comes along out of nowhere, unless you get a top three pick at some point,
Starting point is 00:56:25 or hit a home run in the fifth round with some fluky kid from Europe. You don't line up when the playoffs start. You might make it in. You might battle for a spot. And I can respect that. But that is not going to give us a 10-year window of sustainable winning. Eliteness. Yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:56:44 Fans here want a contender, Gabby. It's just that. It's not like, oh, we could get in once and like, let's trade futures to get like, no, like build it out. this team will be paid this fan base will be patient there is a new rink in two years when you move into a brand new facility just across from the saddle home can you be a young exciting talented team and they're on their way to doing it it's just it takes a while what do you guys remember about how st louis did it in 2019 hot goalie they were last place in january bittington gets called up and he
Starting point is 00:57:16 was unbelievable no good team but it might be the only team that's won a cup that like in the the cap era that didn't have a superstar. And they just rode the hottest goal in the league that year. Like, Cittington was a nobody to like, now he's in net for Canada. Bro, that could be this team. Good.
Starting point is 00:57:33 Could be this team. You got the goalie. You got the goalie. You have, you could argue. And I did it last year. I was a, let's not screw up the season and win too often.
Starting point is 00:57:43 And then they started winning. And I said, well, if we're going to, how about we go add a 30 goal guy because we're going to need that to get us in there. And not saying that it's very difficult to do, but you can look, we did it preseason. I did, I was, one day I came in, I'm like, this team's terrible. We got to play a seller is awful.
Starting point is 00:58:05 And the next day I came in, I'm like, well, you got a goaltender, ball and Weeger and Anderson are pretty good. If Perrette can play, now I've got a top four. That's all right. Like Coronado. You got Coronado. Grin play as well. Hubert O can get this. You can.
Starting point is 00:58:21 sell it as a playoff team but you can't sell it as a top tier contender contender when you go into another when you go into Toronto and the Leafs put your lineup on the board
Starting point is 00:58:37 and the boys walk into the room to get their skates on they're not looking at the Flom's lineup going as a defenseman okay who am I watching out for here well the kind of just that line's good And then that line, yeah, they're good.
Starting point is 00:58:54 And the third line, okay, that's, that's back. That's, that's a good line. I'm not sure about the fourth. Like, you're not going, oh, my God, Kovilchuk's coming down on me. I better be aware. Yeah. With the yellow.
Starting point is 00:59:07 Okay. Covalch. Yeah. When he's on, I got a. That number 10, Pavalbury, just make sure you get your gaps in a good, there's none of those on this team. Yeah, you're going to have to play them. They're anachellers and they're, they've got good depth.
Starting point is 00:59:21 It's just there's no worry when you line up against them. I want to tell you about Vina Nova. I'm not sure if you're aware. No, I'm not aware. Diamonds, you can dig out of the dirty, dirty earth, or you can have them made in a lab. And this is a genius thing. Our buddies have been hitting it hard.
Starting point is 00:59:35 Vena Nova's moved to the market mall location. You can save up to 70% off a diamond that's lab made, not a dirty, dirty diamond. Make sure you check them out. There are good pals. We're talking 50% to 70% less expensive than Earthmine, and the lab technology continues to improve. which allows them to be more affordable.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Visit the showroom and market mall. Our better halves, very happy. Oh, nice. I go to market mall. Lots of parking, apparently.
Starting point is 01:00:01 Yeah. There's a team. How are the team town so big in the city? They're enormous. Like, these are like, I don't know, 15,000,
Starting point is 01:00:10 30,000 foot square foot. Yeah, it's not a Walmart. Being from Toronto, I just, we, I don't have space for that. No,
Starting point is 01:00:19 true. They'd have to be, I don't know, like eight someone's condo like 800 square feet but uh yeah just yeah anyway the team town i do i do do you know salute salute the the diamond uh you don't knowva you go there you put out there and say hi to just so me okay maybe if you go to villan you want to you want to have the budget to go to team town but anyway if you do have the budget for both get it all done they're doing great up there and uh big shot at to justin our pal he's he's got kids same image of mind we go head to head
Starting point is 01:00:45 and hockey so oh nice even baseball diamonds in the hockey race all right just any fights in the Did you see any fights in Seattle? And no, he almost got punched. Night one, there was some fellows in front of us that we're not happy. Like, we're cheering. We weren't being too obnoxious. Yeah, right. But there's nine of you.
Starting point is 01:01:03 I imagine the confidence. There's nine of them. There's some big fellas. Okay. We had to cool things down for a bit. Who is the, who is the mediator? Who is the one that's like,
Starting point is 01:01:12 I'm usually like the, I will help things get a little tense, but I'm also quick to diffuse. When I see a fight coming, I'm like, okay, I'm right, No one's throwing hands here.
Starting point is 01:01:22 We're all friends. He presses the gas and it's like, well, hold on. Let's just let's hear for the chill team. We cheer for the blue team. This is sports. It's entertainment. It's not war. But there's some of that too because geopolitical tensions are what they are between our two countries.
Starting point is 01:01:38 Was anybody, did you see any 51st state propaganda over there? No, then not a lot of that. It's Washington states, maybe a lot more like Canada than other country. It's in a lot of ways. It's pretty liberal. Okay, watch party today, 430 at Greta. Remind you of that. 408 first pitch.
Starting point is 01:01:56 Greta, Viali. It's going to be great. We've got, I believe, happy era specials till the end of the game. And, man, Blue Jays three in a row would be fun. Gossman, Bryce Miller, man, Ernie Clement, batting like 500.
Starting point is 01:02:07 Gladdy, five home. Vladys already passed Batista for most postseason home runs. Like, this guy's unbelievable. Like, talk about. Even a men as the nine hitter is starting to rate. Yeah, he has many. Back to back games with, oh, you, what you saw. Yeah, man, it's, bro, I was, I was loud.
Starting point is 01:02:24 I never really said this publicly. Or maybe we did on that podcast we did it a few months ago. But loud wrong about this front office. Oh, was I ever wrong? Were you out? Spoken about it? We're just in a group chat. The group chats that would get any of us canceled.
Starting point is 01:02:38 If our group jazz, in the audience, they were ever leaked with, with identities and names tied to phone numbers. Oh, my gosh. should we be in some heat. So anyway, front office, like the, this is, okay, the St. Louis Blues of 2019, the most overachieving squad ever.
Starting point is 01:02:58 And this is the one that we're rooting for and got to salute Atkins and Shapiro. And they got a lot of, like, they're screwing it all up. He's going to walk. Then Bichette's going to leave. His team sucks and so on.
Starting point is 01:03:07 We're doing this without Bichet. And now it's like they're two games away from World Series. Two wins away. Without Bichet. Without the guy that was leading the American League and hits at the time was injured. Yeah. get him back.
Starting point is 01:03:18 Schneider? I thought he's got to be a lock. Yeah, I don't know who would be close. He's got to be a heavy favorite for that. You can check on that 365. But I would suggest that early on, I thought maybe things came too quick for Schneider, but he's been great.
Starting point is 01:03:35 The first year, I was just like, is he getting out maneuvered in chess here? Or is it a guy in his first MLB managing job that figured it out? It looks like it's a lot of it. Well, there was also, like the what was it was it was first year or second year that they take burrios when he's cooking out it against minnesota so like and i think as more experienced sports fans know like that's a front office decision yeah that's not a manager
Starting point is 01:04:00 that's not oh no that's just being a worst issue is just all day yeah cooking i'm so angry i'm cooking and uh and then the yeah and then next year we're we're down nine one or we eight one against the mariner's some bishette and spring around into which i night you'll feel myself sister was there. Oh man, that game sucked. You lose that lead. Oh, that was a vicious. That was a vicious hit. And you're like, they hit the deck and you're like, this is, yeah, over season, curtains, blouses. Damn. Game blouses. Let's get to the Pindreport. We do it for Village Chonda. Our good friends in the Northwest Auto Mall and online at VillageHonda.com, they're your dealership
Starting point is 01:04:36 for life. Calgary's winters. You're familiar. We know you need a reliable vehicle. Head up to Village Honda. Say hello to their great award-winning staff. We start with the Calgary Flames over at Flames Nation. The writers are right. What are they talking about with the Calgary Flames? Well, I guess you could talk
Starting point is 01:04:53 a bit about Devin Cooley and his solid start. There was some trepidation regarding Cooley's first start. They elected to go with Wolf in three consecutive games in less than four days out of the gate. But he was good in Utah.
Starting point is 01:05:06 They just couldn't score for him. Sounds familiar Dustin Wolf, doesn't it? I think that's, that might be a bit of that. Elsewhere, Jonathan Hubbardo's return is imminent. It sounds like 8 p. tomorrow in Vegas. You were to return. The question will be who goes. I get the sneaking suspicion. It'll be Sam Hansick that stays and Matt v. Gridden that goes down. Is that sound
Starting point is 01:05:25 crazy to you? Nope. They're going to mix a match and move that around and it's not the end of the world. A kid can go play a bunch. We can't overreact to all this. Yeah. And look, it's 19 years old. Going to the H.L. It's not a bad thing. MacGudevay Gridden wants to be big minutes, two minutes left, top line. We'll see. We'll have that figured out probably by tomorrow morning, skate will have an idea of how things look for the flames as they play Vegas for the second time already in six games. They also got two with Winnipeg coming up in the next week and a half, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, the Rangers who we'll see. But it's a tough schedule. Man, these guys could be two and eight by the time.
Starting point is 01:06:02 Yeah, we'll see. Hopefully not. But Vegas did not look like a team that was going to be easy to play. And they rallied from a two-o deficit scored for an answer the other night. They're always good at home. That's been a house of horrors for the flames playing in Vegas. much and get pumped. They got pumped in front of their mothers on mom's trip.
Starting point is 01:06:20 Golly, bro. A shot for 10 men. A man. Give some, like slow that down. It sounds worse than it. It's Justin Kirkland's jersey. He's some kid gloves,
Starting point is 01:06:29 homie. Yeah, they seem to not be up to speed on Justin. Kirkland's due 23 from 58 last year. There are lines. They've, they've, uh, shuffled them up.
Starting point is 01:06:37 Zeri up top with Cadre and R. Yigor. Fairby Frost and Coronado, the two Philly guys and the Harvard educated Coronado. Hansek, Backlin, Coleman is your checking line, Lombard, Kirkland, Clapka, the fourth line. And that lineup right there would give you the indication
Starting point is 01:06:53 that maybe it is Matt Vakridden, that is the odd man-out. Kind of looks that way. Deep airs, let's see what they got. They tried Daniel Miramanov. You will not be trying that much more often after the chaos we saw earlier this week against Vegas. Jack Eichl, definitely posted them a few times,
Starting point is 01:07:10 turnstile, see you later. Ball and Anderson have been unseparatable. They are the immovable things. They stick together, Hanley with Uighur, who plays on his right side, Weger, after left with Miramanov, and it looks like Pahal and Porek. They've flipped sides with Porek here. They'll know how if Pahal play his offside because they're both righties. Can Porek get the right jersey number two? What are we doing?
Starting point is 01:07:31 Yeah, 19. We're a professional organization. So Pals, a daily face off. Get her going, boys. Come on. Crank it up, crank it up. The schedule and the standings. Neither look great for the Calgary Flames.
Starting point is 01:07:43 There is the next two. It's good. You win games against good teams and then you can build a streak. All right. Let's get streaking. You're going to need a streak because here are the standings we showed you earlier. They are 32nd in a 32nd in a 32 team league, albeit just five games in. The other teams have played less.
Starting point is 01:08:02 Oh, damn. That doesn't help, does it? It's weird to see San Jose there with, you know, zero wins and above the flames. I should have had one in that. Where's that the empty narrow that they couldn't score the other day? Yeah, they did the old, who was that? Patrick Stephan, remember against the Oilers?
Starting point is 01:08:18 Lovartius called that one. That was an unbelievable one. Incredible stuff. We'll keep moving. NHL news. Jack Eichol has more points than the flames have goals. He is the first player to double digits and points. He's been great.
Starting point is 01:08:30 He's got that new extension. I don't know that there's a man happier with the team he's on than after what Jack Eichol went through in Buffalo and to go to Vegas a prime no contender. He's a happy boy, I'm thinking. Yes. He's just waking up, just loving it every day.
Starting point is 01:08:42 Am I pool or am I golfing? What am I doing? Life in Summerlin is awesome. I'm sure he's got a beautiful mansion and everything. And Mitchie's there. And Pavel Dora Fiav is scoring a bunch of goals too. Like what a one-two punch on that BP one. Yeah, big time.
Starting point is 01:08:57 Other NHL news, we've got games tonight to walk you through real quickly. No games last Friday. They've blessed us with four tonight, though, which is good. Tampa at the wheeled wing in Detroit. It would be Minnesota Washington. Not talking enough about Detroit. Stevie Wise plan. Maybe coming together.
Starting point is 01:09:12 His eyes are a plan. might be working. We'll see. Again, very early. Vancouver's not been off to a great start. I think of Chicago. That Frank Nizarre looked good. Yes. He scored another one the other night. And the Mahmout, Utah will host the sharks who have done a very good job of getting to overtime and blowing leads, but not winning in regulation. There's the slate. Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. Jays, Jays. After an O2 start against the Mariners, they are in Seattle for one more night because of this lunatic, eaving it up.
Starting point is 01:09:43 That's right. First Ballot Hall of Famer, 41-year-old, telling the manager, I am not coming out. Let's go. Stuff of legend to stay in. And then that. And is he pumped up? Yes, he is. Five and two-thirds from Scherzer, then handed to the bullpen in what became a bit of a laugh. The bats are back, Gabby. They're hitting the tar. Man, they scored what? Four games, four games, one and two? Combine? Yeah, maybe. And then like 21 or 23 at T-Mobile.
Starting point is 01:10:13 Like it's just absolutely other other side of the coin. And this mother bleeper, have you seen, have you, there's a, there's a something I saw on on Twitter or IG recently where it's just him, his self-talk. Yeah. And it's just mother bleeper. Like just getting himself like just going, like getting to that place where, you know, he's going to retire the side or he's going to battle. You know he's a, he's a gamer three-time Syung award winner, two-time World Series champion.
Starting point is 01:10:38 It's the six team he started. he started for in the playoffs no other pitcher has done that this guys are we at all worried about him post career like he's got a spot here to to let it all he's got an outlet for this is true this is one of those guys that like has to go be a golfer when he retires because he needs something to like he's got over like he's got he's got to go there is some competitive and I think it's natural for him where do you where do you go for that you don't find it I can tell you yeah there's not a lot of 20,000 Put your kids in youth hockey and act like a nut job.
Starting point is 01:11:13 We're good at that. We'll have to go find some time with the monks like Victor Wenbanyama did in the offseason. Did he go see the monks? Yeah, but to see the monks, bro. I don't know that Max feels like a monk at me, but we'll see. He'll be yelling at a monkey. Did Johnny Taves do that? Fight the monks.
Starting point is 01:11:27 Johnny Taves went over to Asia and got the body back. He's with the Jets this year. Look at the boys in the dugout after Scherzer. Like, they are just dying. So you'll see some spring burgers. up and up. That's awesome. Here's Vladine out.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Yeah, there's a sparing moment. Pete Walker's like, yeah, I didn't want to feel that, but I felt it in the, like, you know. You got pushed it away too, dude. 500 start of his career, playoffs and majors included. And that is why you go get Max Scherzer. 500? 500 total. He started in Detroit.
Starting point is 01:12:02 He is going to. Arizona, his career. But he became roast of prominence. Yeah, sure. With Burlander and who's the other, the third horse. He was like Annabel Sanchez, a couple of guys. Yeah, and there was a, it was a good, man. Forgetting who, but yeah, but did not have a great regular season.
Starting point is 01:12:19 ERA over five had it. 25 earned runs. His last 25 innings had not pitched for three weeks and then does that on the biggest stage in the playoffs. There's also, there's also, sorry, the 20 to one, we got belt to ass against KC. And homie gave up seven earned runs. And that was like his second. last start and then I think the last one was against Boston or Baltimore but then has that last night that is epic and we're very celebratory but I think all of us were going into that game going
Starting point is 01:12:48 okay is the experience is going to be good or is this going to fall like it was I was worried and then I was so I was too he was frothing and stomping around the mound as they were getting loose for the in warmups and you're like this mania is late to it he's still throwing 96 Is he have icy hot on his testicles? Like is he like? Yeah, it was impressive stuff. Speaking of icy hot, we got the Flacco Rogers Bowl last night. The icy hot bowl, Jack, walk us through it.
Starting point is 01:13:19 You were the only guy. The only guy. The only guy. The last one of the game. Joe Flacco, 10 days into his Bengals career, 31 to 47, three touchdowns, like 350 yards. Jamara Chase, 16 receptions, 161 yards in a touchdown.
Starting point is 01:13:34 He had 23 targets. That's unbelievable. Was there anyone else on offense? Like salute to Chase Brown, the Canadian, the running back, but 23 targets? Three targets. Jack, that tells me he was not getting covered well. Is that accurate? Jamar Chase is like one or one.
Starting point is 01:13:52 It's Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase. It's the best receivers in the football. If you give him Burrough, he was what, Triple Crown last year? Yes, man. He was like, he was unreal. And screw the Browns, man. Of course they trade him to the Bengals. What are we doing?
Starting point is 01:14:06 Big Steelers guys. division trade goes to Cincinnati and just lights, lights up the Steelers. Jack, what are they doing? Joe Flackle's the only guy that your head coach is afraid of. Mike Tomlin has been saying for years, like, you knew it. We want to keep Anthony Richardson upright because we don't want to go into the game and cook us. And they did, I mean, they pulled out a squeaker last night. What an awesome game.
Starting point is 01:14:31 Great game. For the, for the 13 people that watched it. Yeah. Yeah, it was seniors night. There's Richard Rogers and Flacco. What a night of sports, hey? Making you feel young, huh? Rogers was great.
Starting point is 01:14:43 He was. He was. Salute to Aaron Charles, four touchdowns. What is he? Fifth now and passing yards all time in NFL history. He's a first bow. He was a little sour. You got bowled over after a touchdown.
Starting point is 01:14:54 His teamer was celebrating and tackled him. He's like, get the bleep off me. It's like, yo, my Achilles, bro. Yeah, it's true. He's had a few of those. He's like, do you know, ancient I am? Let's not go jumping on me, big boy. Are careful.
Starting point is 01:15:07 There's two eyes, man. Like, that is the most intimidating dude ever. What is it called melachromia or something? Or something? Something chromia is what it's called. Awesome. What if it's just a contact? And this is part of his mental mind.
Starting point is 01:15:21 Like, just mind fucking everyone. I'm going to Scherzer to, uh, when we're in Nashville. That's going to be my, we'll go full for. That would be nails, actually. You get to throw the one brown in there. That would be so funny. This graphic,
Starting point is 01:15:35 sponsored by Cialis or some E.B. Pell. Yeah, maybe Adel diapers. Good work, boys. Big night for the old guys. Love to see that. Stampedeters are back at McMahon tomorrow. Jack's going to be there in the Coors Corral, lighting it up with his boys as the Calgary Stampeders
Starting point is 01:15:51 are still vying for home field. We'll see two big games on the out of town scoreboard tonight that will help impact who hosts the West semifinal. But it will be Stamps, Argos, 5 p.m. at McMahon. How pumped are the fellas, Jack? The boys are Jack. Looks like we'll get some decent weather too.
Starting point is 01:16:07 Love that. Love, love, love that. Pink Power game as they raise funds to fight against breast cancer. Always good cause. Fellas love getting the pink mitts on, the pink shoes and socks. Let's go get it, boys. They snapped that losing skid last week with a big win in Hamilton. Final home game of the regular season,
Starting point is 01:16:23 and if they play well, you might have a home playoff date as well. Calvary FC is on the road there in Vancouver. Langley, to be accurate, at the Willough Bay community puck. 2 p.m. kickoff against Vancouver FC tomorrow. Cavs looking like they'll be third in the CPL,
Starting point is 01:16:40 which is a playoff spot. It's a very unusual playoff format. Five place four, winner of that place three, one and two, he played two. One goes to the final. It's confusing as heck, but you know they're in,
Starting point is 01:16:50 and they're the defending champs. So we'll wish them well in Vancouver tomorrow. Finally, to close the Pinder report, some Lugans in Seattle. Look at how, look at that. Is one dude missing a tooth? One guy is pulling the tooth. play for the Kelona Rockets. I don't know if you know I'm right, but he could
Starting point is 01:17:07 anytime you give him a smile, I'll tuck that tooth away. It's like, it's quite something. What a beauty. The jacket I'm wearing is a buddies. He somehow got it from that's gorgeous. Somebody in Toronto's stepdad or whatever. It's got 92, 93 world champs on the back. It is a leather bomber. It weighs about 15 pounds and it is undefeated in Seattle this year, boys. Where is it right now? There, there is that. That's our book. Legend. That's some dumb and dumber right there. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 01:17:38 So you're saying there's a chance. And there's a chance. There's your Pender Report for Village Honda. Lots of new vehicles on the lot. And if you're looking for pre-owned over 90 plus access to over 500 more in their dealership group, all makes, all models, all budgets, village honda.com. Your dealership for life. Is it Kevin Nash, big sexy?
Starting point is 01:18:02 I think so. Or was a NWO? NWO. It's going to NWO. Maybe NW. You big wrestling head girl for now? No. No. I was at when like Ultimate Warrior
Starting point is 01:18:11 Wrestling, WrestleMania 6 was like in 1989 and then I was like, okay. There are girls I need to go. We got to go ride our bikes and where the girls are playing soccer. Me watching wrestling is not impressing the ladies. I can't go on this date, actually. I'm watching the WrestleMania. Not happening.
Starting point is 01:18:29 A couple other items to do. We'll get to your super chats here out today. If you've got a sports trip you want to tell us about, throw a little cash on it. We'll give it to the use centers of Calgary. We'll get to those for the end of the show. Got to tell you about the hearing loss clinic. Now, Cabby, have you ever had your ears test?
Starting point is 01:18:41 Yes, I went to one by the university district. Yeah, so there's five locations in Calvary for the hearing loss clinic. Five in BC. We're talking Invermere, Cramarck, all throughout the Columbia Valley. And, of course, a brand new location. You went to just by Chinook, gorgeous setup. It's funny because, like, you have, and that's great. And, you know, we work with headphones on for a living.
Starting point is 01:19:02 So you've got to be careful on this stuff. But everyone goes to the day. Dennis, everyone gets their eyes checked. Feels the people are sleeping on getting their hearing checks. Get in there and it's their way of helping you live better. Got some issues. They can help you live a better life. Deal with those loud rooms a little better.
Starting point is 01:19:18 Communicate more, more social. Untreated hearing loss has been linked to things like dementia. We don't want that. Get in there. They're great. And it's, hey, Cleveland Health,
Starting point is 01:19:27 there you go. We know he gets sick of the old lady harping on you, but you can take him out if you don't need them. I think it was my wife's suggestion to go get my ears checked, actually. how is your wife lovely she's a chill she's wonderful she's just a bold question to kind of out of the blue yeah cabby look actually right there like we're not we're not from me careful little back sir he takes shocks but man the shussellers taking a few of your wife you got to be careful no cabby's here because of your wife like she lured you into calgary we got you because of her so
Starting point is 01:20:02 so big thank you to her she's loving thank you dr richard's a three-year-old a one-year-old like they're full on right now. She said, doctor? Yes. Yeah. Wife is a chiropractor. Out there in Beddington. Bring her down here. Speaking of which, like, we're going to have some medical work done in the studio here. I don't know if you know that.
Starting point is 01:20:22 What do you mean? Invest meds coming in. They're going to take our blood and see everything's going. So this is the thing with the way the world is right now. Oh, boy. We want to get ahead of stuff. You better wait a couple days. We're not doing it before or after Nashville.
Starting point is 01:20:35 We're not doing it before after Seattle. We're going to give a little time here. We're going to mix a few waters. Invest dashmed.com is the website. And Canadian-owned, they are one-of-a-kind, world-leading in terms of the technologies. Tell us about some of the stuff we've had done. I've done it all. They did the whole scan and they found the issues and we have to work on the issues.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Ventative. And you're not worried about it because you actually feel like your control of things. And just like we both said or everyone said, you're going to go to your doctor's appointment. You're going to be like, I've got to plan that a month. out because I'm going to take care of myself, which means that you're faking it. Talk to invest med, get in front of it. Don't be stupid. Put some money on yourself and your health.
Starting point is 01:21:19 You can't get old and spend your money if you can't get old. You want to be able to do things. You don't want to be all in rough shape. So get there healthy. Invest dashmed. com. It's dot. ca.
Starting point is 01:21:38 future health preventative. Test the blood, say, okay, Pender, what the hell is this? So there's all kinds of, like literally coming here to the studio? Yeah, there you come in. Wow. All kinds of scanning and like advanced screen. Are you guys going to pop in that day? Can I look?
Starting point is 01:21:51 No, I'm afraid of the results. I should know. Like your BMI is 55. You've seen a treadmill before? Let me introduce you to one. Rettsters down to his playing. This is as light as he's been since 08. That's awesome.
Starting point is 01:22:05 That takes a lot of work. I can imagine like, like, You retire, you know, the, the doctor come out, you know, the golf trips. The doctor told me when I retired. You put all back in Washington, Nashville. The doctor told me when I retire. You're like, your body's been through, you've been through the ring. It's time to just take foot off the gas and do nothing.
Starting point is 01:22:23 And I took that as. Too hard. Yeah, a dozen beer and two bags of nachos. Oh, my, my, bro. There's a place in Bridgeland, a little, a small grocery store that has these, like, almost like, these, these, these, they're seasoned nachos like, oh, with the, with the, with the spice, the rub on it, you can kill a whole, like, I might tonight, game five, when you're at, hammering.
Starting point is 01:22:49 It's gone. Yes, bro. God. Zero discipline. So, I, you know. What's your, uh, cheap food? What's the one that gets you? It's the chips, chips.
Starting point is 01:22:58 It's either all dressed or barbecues. Savory guy. Not a sweets? No, not sweets. I like salt. Salt on the tongue. Yeah. I'm with you, man.
Starting point is 01:23:06 I'm the. So I, listen. I might show up at Greta and like it and just have a, you'll see me in the corner with a giant plate of nachos. Morgan, he was going to drop chips down the road, like, just like Hansel and Gretel will lead you in.
Starting point is 01:23:17 Oh, geez, I'm a Greta. How do they get in here? Fourth, 408 first pitch, we're reminding me again. It's going to be great. We had game one against the Yankees there at about 25 fellas. One guy brought his girlfriend,
Starting point is 01:23:28 but the rest of the room were just Lugan's like, it was awesome. He made a mistake. Yeah, so there it is. Today, can't believe it. We could nap, but we're going to do it. Again, we're going to roll it back for game five.
Starting point is 01:23:39 The Jays are back in this series. It'll be a ton of fun. How many people are skipping out of work early today? Everyone. Oh, yeah. There's zero focus. If you're worried about rush hour, you might not have to. It might start a little bit earlier today.
Starting point is 01:23:53 Well, just walking this is from downtown on 10th, I've got to love that. I remember at the old shop. So we worked on the morning show at the radio station here for, like, you and boom, probably almost a decade and a half. I was a decade there. The highest rated moment, according to our old. old boss ever in the radio station's history thinking okay it was a big flames game it was a play it was the Jose battee bat flag oh yeah game it was in drive time yeah and that game
Starting point is 01:24:16 seventh inning took 45 minutes all the chaos beers on the field the ball that russle martin throws back then the hose bomb and the relief they come back from o two to win the series that was the highest rating moment according to our boss in the history i believe it it was a massive that that was the year it was sports that was saved one year or two years because there are no Canadian teams in the NFL and the playoffs. Excuse me. But the Blue Jays just went on this run in 15 and in 16. Epic games. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:42 I was very fortunate to be at that bat flip game. And that was in a way. I lived in Toronto so I wasn't like I didn't have to travel to go and everybody in this action. Nause was there too. You mentioned a lot earlier. We watched the flight of the ball. So didn't notice, didn't know that Batista
Starting point is 01:24:58 had that moment at home plate. Afterwards when we saw it on our phones, people are sending the clip like, what? Because everybody in the state, you know, as soon as it clears the wall, then it's just chaos. Everyone's jumping, lost my breath. Again, I'm surprised that you still have a voice. You are a professional, bro. Because you're two days in Seattle.
Starting point is 01:25:14 Well, he doesn't talk much, Kavri. He likes when he gets out in public, it's a real clear. I mean, when he's here, he has to. But when he's in public, they had a muscle for me. It's a little ball and I had a dyer. That Jack and you had a hoodie that just came over your face and a couple of eye sockets. And that's how you experience. Like that guy in the basement of Pulp Fiction.
Starting point is 01:25:33 You can come, pin it. but you have to wear this. Don't be the gimp. Get the gip out of his cage. First pitch in an hour. Let's go. How do you even think about it? Where was Tarantino even in his brain to think of that?
Starting point is 01:25:46 That movie's insane. Pulp Fiction. And the music, have you seen Pulpiction? I have multiple times. It's so no idea what's going. No, and it's out of order. It's not chronological.
Starting point is 01:25:54 It's wild. That movie's nuts. Samuel L. The Wolf. Oh, that movie. I think we pretty much got everything done, Phil. Yes. Like, I think, Jack,
Starting point is 01:26:03 we got any housekemen. We got to do super chats. That's about it. That's about it. Let's jump into that. We'll see. The comment section. Comment section.
Starting point is 01:26:10 Always dangerous. Use centers of Calgary, the beneficiary when you attach a monetary donation to your comment in the YouTube, YouTube live comments. Let's see what people have got going on today. Peter Houston, two bucks. Cabby on the show adds a whole lot of class. I put the ass in class. Hopefully don't rub off on them at all. He's elevating.
Starting point is 01:26:31 Yeah. But now we have to go back to Monday next week. and it'll be back to. And he's kind of got a positive vibe about it. That seat over there is usually Eeyore. It's not a little. It's a very different vibe. Thank you, Peter.
Starting point is 01:26:45 Appreciate the two bucks with the kids. Appreciate you. Rice E. There's, look at that avatar. That's our boy. Cheers to Rett for being captain of the ship this week. Walking Sticks, Red MVP of the week. Oh, you know.
Starting point is 01:26:55 MVP. Battling this year to battle, boys. He's always been good in the room. Team guy. Shout out to Mike as well. He was great yesterday. Yeah, I heard Mike was very good. That's good.
Starting point is 01:27:04 Mike look exhausted. Yes. A poor Mike was, was he gasp? He did the after-Bern and a show of it. He's crazy. He's a lot right now.
Starting point is 01:27:14 I think we got the In the Dome Boys on Saturday, by the way. So if you like F-sharps and people are running the Oilers, that'll be a fun watch. That's their legends. Did you have a new clip from them that you set up? Oh, yeah. It was. What were they railing on this time?
Starting point is 01:27:26 It was something about the Oilers. Great's to make it look easy. They can't stop for it. Uh, I can't stop, sorry. Big Bears, six nine and nine, and winning against the Oilers and losing every single other game this season is really the best possible. I'll come through it. There is a lot of this,
Starting point is 01:27:44 cabby. This is what we call Team Tank. The people that are like, be bad to get a very good player, but definitely win those four against the Oilers. The rest of me don't care. Is it possible to get Gavin before you get the new building? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:57 You get them a summer. You'd have one year in the dome and then one in the new ring. Let's do it. Sounds easy, right? Oh, yeah. Just go get the Gavin. That lottery thing doesn't, it's very easy to figure over. What if he ends up in San Jose with Will and Macklin?
Starting point is 01:28:10 That's too much. That's a 10, 12-year window. That's the problem. Then you got to play those bastards. They're in division. My bad. Thank you, Big Bear. I do agree with you.
Starting point is 01:28:20 That's a team tag box. Listen, five bucks. Wait, didn't Joel Fairby just get here? Last year, yeah. Five million a year. I think three years left in a steal. Wait, wasn't he with Toronto last year? No, Philly.
Starting point is 01:28:32 He's been okay, though. He's had a chance. He's not putting them away. Snake pit. But again, like, he's definitely a checking winger. And if he can find that scoring touch, that's an asset that's very good. If he's not going to score, it's like, well, you're just a checking winger. But I've liked his work out.
Starting point is 01:28:45 Cabby, if you like Brisket, and you're in Kelowna, go to Team Eats. Oh, yeah? I want to see what's going on. Okay. I haven't been to Colon or a while, but thank you, Bruch. Thank you, Red. I will have to check that out. What are they got there?
Starting point is 01:28:56 What is it? Oh, you know what? I said Briskey. I'm not afraid to beg Team Eats. We'll send DM Jack and send us some of that brisket because a big boy here wants to shout out. It comes in a vacuum sealed pack.
Starting point is 01:29:08 Oh, nice. He just had his kid out there for hockey tournament, so he's very familiar with TV, it's barely. Did we see the Bush fails? The Bush was awesome. No, we didn't. I'd love taking cheap shots. We could close the show with a little bit of.
Starting point is 01:29:20 I think it was a breakaway that he gave up. Jack, I haven't seen this because obviously being a lunatic. Here we go. Hill of Evan Bouchard. He, always thinks he's got more time, but you don't. The first turnover hit the goalpost and went right.
Starting point is 01:29:36 He's like the second fastest guy in the NHR, right? Conner's first than him. Oh, Barzl can fly. Yeah, I think he went fastest skater one year. Yeah. That's what I'm, that is very casual. He actually is back checking harder than I thought. Well, he did.
Starting point is 01:29:49 It's just, you've already made than this thing. I mean, if you just turn over the pocket. But I think there were instances prior to this where, like, I read in the article, So the article was basically this is as shitty as he's. Tough night for me. Well, you know what? I mean, in his defense, you get him out in October. You don't want these in April or May.
Starting point is 01:30:09 That's right. You know? I mean, like much of the chagrin of this fan base, but enjoy it now. There you go. That's where you feel the best. Thanks for the 199 for the kids. We appreciate that. Any other super chats, Jack.
Starting point is 01:30:22 That is all. Okay. Kathy. Thank you. Thanks for coming in. My pleasure. I had a lot of fun. You're in town.
Starting point is 01:30:28 and we love you and you're incredibly talented. So I want to see Moria. I'll be back. I'll be back more often. Retro walking sticks this week. Thank you. Appreciate it. Love being here,
Starting point is 01:30:40 right? Can you show the people your hair? Like you, yes, we got to. Oh, what was the consent? What was the consensus?
Starting point is 01:30:46 You looked like Devin Travis, bro. We talked about it. I think Stroh had that haircut. I got about a five head going on here. This is not ideal. A regular, a forehead. Someone,
Starting point is 01:30:55 we threw the video up on Instagram me at the barbershop yesterday. getting the haircut and someone's like you can project the game on pinders for it okay well you're not stephen a that's aggressive you know uh we've chatted with the fellas said look they win game three like i'm cutting them all we like we like we're all in like let's go like fire up the boys are like yeah yeah yeah and then i get on the show yesterday i tell right he can't cut your hair in the middle of seriously just won i'm like okay we have to table this and so we we we were sitting down having some delicious seattle seafood as you have to do when you're in seattle and we did a all in favor raise
Starting point is 01:31:27 your hand. We had quorum. So we went to the barbershop. Chop, chop. Top top. Team players. Well, it's a mullet. I don't know that looks good, but it's something. Looks good. Looks good. My wife's in Australia for two weeks. I'm going to try to get one of these my kid. She's in for a root-in-week-old. 10-year-old? Like, youth large, can we do that for them? Yeah. He'll be the coolest kid at school. Absolutely. That's that's the luck. It's going to be good, man. It's going to be good. Thanks for being here today. I really appreciate it. Thanks to all the sponsors of the program. We'll see it 408 today. at Greta for the Jays watch party.
Starting point is 01:32:00 See you, buddies.
