Starting point is 00:00:00 There we go. Let's, uh, let's do this thing. Vives. How are the vibes? Immaculate? Hi. So good. I mean, geez, what a time to be alive covering the Calgary flames of all teams of all 32. We get one. What a true of this. How's your dog? How's your goddamn dog? Yeah. Dog. Um, dog, um, dog last night. Dogs looking a little, dogs looking a little, uh, little sick. They'll be time for the vet for the old. Welcome to the show. Bet365 presenting Presenting sponsor,
Starting point is 00:00:35 presenting partner, official gaming partner, Barn burner and Afterburner. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365. Get that account open. If you haven't already, use the promo code nation
Starting point is 00:00:44 when you sign up to do so. Get that up on your phone. Yeah. Get it. Get it. Yelled it at me. I already got it. Get it.
Starting point is 00:01:00 You put some bets in today. So then when you get it, you go up. swipe. No, fine. Bad three six, huh?
Starting point is 00:01:09 Right? Then it'll get it. Okay. And throughout the course of the show, we've got the super chat. We will take the money that you donate and pass it across to the
Starting point is 00:01:31 good folks at the youth centers of Calgary. They will put it to good use. And then we'll take your comment and put it on the program. Seems like a good deal. Patrick's bitching. Please don't scream. into your mic. Get it!
Starting point is 00:01:45 That's quite a night last night. You're bucket tipping. You realize that. You're being an asshole, Dean. Yeah, I know. Well, jeez. That was,
Starting point is 00:02:10 I mean, man. What was the final? Six? How'd they get two? Yeah, they didn't get that second one at the end. There wasn't a fly by the bench, I noticed. Jeez. You had screamed out overtime,
Starting point is 00:02:24 but it didn't, it wasn't to be. Yeah. Too late, perhaps. And, you know, Scott Lawton kind of scored the last one. He did. And the first one, I said to you as we were watching from Cowboys Casino yesterday, I kind of said, is that even really a quality scoring chance?
Starting point is 00:02:44 Because it's kind of from well out. It's a bit of a shitburger. It's not really screened. It's definitely not tipped. It goes through a spot. A goal that doesn't want it to go through. It's a bad goal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Like, um, Willie's goal. Willie Nealander? We willie. Nice goal. Oh yeah, yeah. Awesome Matthews. Which one though?
Starting point is 00:03:05 Either. Fair. But the one. The up top there? Nice goal. Who did, because Domi's past, they had that incredible camera angle of him saucing it over two flame sticks
Starting point is 00:03:17 and landing just as it's getting released. Like that was pretty. That was real nice. A little plays. If you didn't have that replay, you're like, oh, yeah, what big deal? More you look at it. You're like, how did they get through those two?
Starting point is 00:03:28 Oh, is that true? Nice. Yeah. That's very nice. Bobby. Over to Bobby McMahon. Um, I see some people are kind of, um, the offside. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:42 I says, how can you, how can you call that offside when you can't see the puck? It's got to be definitive. That's kind of what we were saying. I'll tell you what, Danny. If they had lost three, two, this would be a major talking point today. Yeah. I, um, it's, it's really not, uh, front of mind in terms of everything else. At the moment it was important, but they blew the big of these guys.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah, felt big at the time. And I, I agree with what everyone in the, in the comments is saying, I didn't see anything that was conclusive to overturn it. Did I think it was offside? Yeah. Could I have proved it? No. That's the key. So unless they're, they got an angle we didn't have in the control room, it's kind of a weird call. And they often do a, angles that we don't have, but from the viewer's perspective on Amazon, nothing they showed off. You're like, there it is. It's offside. You're like, well, it probably is, but I can't see the puck now. Well, now I can't see his foot. I can see the puck. But you never saw both. Like if you said,
Starting point is 00:04:37 if the rule was, we are going to take multiple angles. Yeah. And we're going to, we have them all time synced together. We're going to thread them together. We're going to be able to kind of, you know, like matrix this thing. Yeah. Some overhead stuff and around and so. And we're going to be able to then make a a decision, a educated decision, even though maybe we can't see the puck. But that's not what it is. It's got to be conclusive. Got to be. I feel still even talking about it.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I mean, look, let's just be glad it wasn't a game that went to overtone. Look at you. We got to move on. What's wrong? I don't know what else we're going to talk about this game. How your nails, Dean. Yeah, I just let's be glad. I said to you a lot.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I said, they've loved. lost, you know, down by three, by four, by five, you can say whatever about this offside goal. Listen, if you watch this game, if you watch this game, I'm not sure. And I said it's maybe just because it's front of mind, revision is his, whatever, I'm not sure I've seen the flames as outclassed as they were last night for the pretty much the balance of the game. It was so much the haves have-nots.
Starting point is 00:05:52 the they're they're winning they're definitely not winning it was such a gap and to watch and not even to mention name but just watch the flames players out there yeah and they're trying they're chopping away and they're skating and trying to make plays and they're getting it's blocks and it was demoralizing as an observer as a fan i would guess on the bench as a GM, a coach, demoralizing night. It's not a win. You need points. You didn't get any.
Starting point is 00:06:24 But I would, I would think at a certain point, I was like, what do you say to these guys after 40 minutes when it's just, they're not winning this game. Changing the goalie. You know, like the message to me would be, guys, if we're going to be, if we, if we're going to make the playoffs, this is the kind of stuff we're going to be up against. High level skill. Teams that make hay on the power play. Speed, skill.
Starting point is 00:06:48 This is, if we want to get there, this is a good, pretty good sample of what we just might see when we get there. And it, it was, it was, yeah, just deported, Borlai, whatever you want to call it on a number of levels. I look at the last three weeks and when they play elite teams, Florida, Tampa, Carolina, Dallas, Colorado. So they just, it's ugly. Like they're either getting heavily outchanced and staying in it strictly by goalie, or they have to turn it into the most low event affair you've ever seen and just play a heavy trap and wait for mistakes. But you look at those games, they haven't done well.
Starting point is 00:07:33 They incredibly got a point against Carolina, despite hardly touching the puck most of the night. Great effort. You know, they get a loser point in Dallas. Great effort. But in the other five games, they've been absolutely young. Colorado toyed with them at times. Toronto was a much better team last night.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Tampa Carolina, or Tampa Florida, excuse me, they, they, you know, I think the flames were trying in one and not in the other, but it didn't really matter. They got destroyed in both on scoring chance differential.
Starting point is 00:08:02 They aren't that good. And we know that. And you feel for Dustin Wolf more than anyone last night, because he's upside down in the first period. Holding Toronto the two seemed like a small miracle at a time. Yeah. And it's just like, who are you going to line?
Starting point is 00:08:15 up next like where does the best flames skater slot in on the leaf's roster their sixth best like i don't know it's like who is even the best flames skater yeah i don't know um it's just they cannot score they are the lowest scoring team in the league they're awful at offense and that that makes it really tough when you run into a team that can score and does play keep away and it's it's part of that bigger conversation we have when so when when when does this end When does the scoring woes bad, low scoring hockey for the Calgary Flames? When can you look at it and say, oh, well, now they're middle of the pack or one of the top 10 again? Well, the rest of this year, they're just a low scoring team.
Starting point is 00:09:00 And then we'll see what Connie does in free agency. He's got a ton of cap space, which can be a great thing and also be a dangerous thing. But they're not calling up any help anytime soon. Like, Porek will get some minutes next year. you'll probably see Gridden and Basha in the American League. Arir Suna, Sunniyev's going to get signed this spring. But all those guys are a couple of years away. Even you just look at the first 20 games of Matt Coronado.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Like they're, you know, he's trying to figure out a league. Those guys aren't ready to help. So yeah, you could go spend some big money and chase some scoring and free agency. You could swing a deal involving Rasmus Anderson because he's going to be a UFA in a year. But yeah, it's going to be a offensively challenged team. as long as Ryan Husk is at the helm, and they have similar personnel, because that's his only script to get Ws with this team.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Lean on the goalie and play low event hockey. If you were to, like, if you text that buddy, oh, flames six, too. Ooh, yeah, goalie get pulled. Yeah, he must have been shit. No, he was their best player. Best player. He was their best player.
Starting point is 00:10:03 What? Uh-huh. I had a buddy, you say, oh, that must have cost him a lot of Calder votes. I said, he might have got some mercy votes last night. You obviously didn't see this game. Yeah, you know what? It was, and we were going back and forth as we were watching from Cowboys Casino last night
Starting point is 00:10:21 with Adnan Verk, who was hosting on the prime broadcast. And it was, I said, the thing was, I said, here's your challenge. Here's your task for the night. We're doing a little watch party. You need to get Barnburner somewhere into your. Now, I don't know that he ever got there. He said, first intermission, we'll get there. And I don't think that he got to it.
Starting point is 00:10:43 And by the time the second period, I mean, it was not a barn burner. I texted him. I said, in fairness, this is not a barn burner. And he was saying, yeah, and we were really bumping the tires on Wolfe or, you know, Calder and heart maybe got heart votes, this sort of thing. And now he's out after two periods. So it was just not a good night. It was a great night of cowboys.
Starting point is 00:11:05 I mean, we had a hell of a good time. Those chairs are incredibly comfortable. You ordered food from one restaurant. I had one from another in the facility. they bring right to your chair. You got two cup holders. The thing slides right out front. They're going to get to know me there.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I was going to say it's almost one of those things you don't want to tell people about because it's so great, but we should really tell people about it because it's so great. Yeah. Yeah. It was awesome. You know, big thank you to them. They did a great job.
Starting point is 00:11:33 I know a lot of places have a tough time getting the Amazon games up. They were all over it. Yeah. And good to see a lot of the Barneys out there, not to mention Joel Otto, Mason Raymond, and others. How nice a guy's Mason Raymond. Incredibly nice. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Hey, how's it going? Good day. Hey, ho, hey, hey, going meeting everybody. Joel Otto. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. How we do it over here? Good to see you. Oh, ho.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Hey, signing autographs and taking pictures. I mean, in that respect, great night. It was very good night. Great night. Yeah, if maybe you, uh, flip the jerseys around and the Leafs wore the flames jersey, it would be a perfect night. And in fairness, even the Leaf fans that were there weren't, uh, D bags. No.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Kind of held it in check, which. They've been humbled. That was four or five coming in. They were all growly about their team, but that was the get right spot for the Leafs last night. No question. So with Cowboys Casino, of course, it's a casino. Yeah. It is attached to the bar that is also known as Cowboys,
Starting point is 00:12:28 where last night they had a wrestling event, I understand. Yeah, I believe it was U-18 wrestling, or what's the word we used to. Yeah. Starts with them. Yeah. It ends with Idget. Not dwarf.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Little people not. It was, anyway, there was a wrestling event. That's how they marketed it. Those are my ones on. We were popping corn. I mean,
Starting point is 00:12:51 deep recliners. Really nice. We weren't putting our feet up, were we? It was just we were sitting in the nice, cozy recliners. They did recline? Did they recline?
Starting point is 00:12:59 I wonder. I know the back did. I don't know if there was a foot thing. For what, just to kind of paint the picture, this, if you've been to Vegas and you've been to a sports book, this was very much a sports book field.
Starting point is 00:13:10 They got the big screens, almost to the point that we'd think, maybe if it ever becomes legal when in the old alberta's then that'd be a that'd be a spot anyway thank you to cowboy's casino a great partner of ours we're going to be back there month soonish very soonish details coming up on that um it's bracket time right brackets are in full swing it's a flames game day get your helmet on there was a guy with a helmet on last night. There was. It was like a fireman.
Starting point is 00:13:42 He saw an old, old show shirt. We, uh, yeah, some of the dyed their beard. There was a lot, huge oversized St. Patty's glasses. I'm all for it. It was festive spirits. Yeah, it was great. It was great. Um, so if you, if that's, you, you want to go watch, uh, hoops or whatever, that'll be a good thing to do. Tonight, it's another one for the Calgary Flames. It is a game day. They are in, uh, the, uh, the,
Starting point is 00:14:09 garden tonight? Yeah. The garden. The mecca. Here's what the way this is going to play out. All the big Homer honks in the media are going to say, you know, the best thing for the flames is they're going to be able to get right back out of tonight. And then all the negative numbers are going to be like, they're playing awful.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Now they got the Rangers fighting for a playoff spot, travel, short rest. Don't know what goalie they're going to start. So, you know, we've got to pick a lane here. It feels like you're kind of picking someone. Just a generic kind of. No, there's homers and there's pessimists. That's how it works. What do we know about the Rangers?
Starting point is 00:14:50 We, oddly, the flames 71 points. Rangers have 72. This has been kind of a tumultuous season. They traded their captain. It was kind of a pissing match, very kind of out in the media.
Starting point is 00:15:06 the general manager has taken some real knocks. They've made a lot of moves. I don't know if they're better off because of them. J.T. Miller is prank. I mean, they got Yusel Parson in now. I just kind of like, I mean, it's Carson Sousy is a ranger now. Adam Fox has been injured. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:27 I don't know. Foxy's back tonight, but has been injured. You're right. Sussie and Dahan, two of the guys they added in trade this year. Both healthy tonight. So again, Chris Drury, once you know what you're doing, let us know. I think they're going to make a big cut in free agency here. They've been clearing up money along the way on this thing.
Starting point is 00:15:53 You know, the Goodrow, you look at their captain leaving. This is a big market. They need another star to play with Panarin. It feels like Zabanajad and Crider. have fallen off a bit. They're going to be players in free agency. Zabanajad looks, yeah, it looks like the, like how old is he?
Starting point is 00:16:15 Not that old, but he looks like he has slowed down in a big way. And maybe he hasn't really ever been a speedster. But it feels like if he's not on the power play, just kind of, you know, moving around and trying to get open, whether he's in that bumper spot for the one time. I don't see a whole lot of jam left in his game. Panarin is still the guy. He's got a nine-game point streak, 13 points in the last nine games.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Trocheque is four in his last three. Always like this Will Cooley character. That's a nasty to him. Good player. Miller has fit right back in there. Great. Alex Lefrenier, 38 in 68, 15 goals. It felt like last year that playoff was really going to be kind of a jumping off point for him.
Starting point is 00:17:04 I don't know how they feel about them right now because it was kind of mild disappointment. Then the playoff happened and it felt like, all right, he's finally, he's coming of age now. I'm not sure if this is yet, you know. Yeah, I think back to be a disappointment again. How the season started. If I recall, he had a really good start. I'm looking. He had like five or six in the first month of the year.
Starting point is 00:17:31 But yeah, it's cooled off a bit. it just feels like that whole environment hasn't really been conducive to Oh, look at last year though. Like that's long stretches of good play for the team. So it's 19, 20, 21, 22. So it's 22 year old season or 21 year old season, nearly 30 goals. Good. Are you going to be a superstar?
Starting point is 00:17:48 No. But after, you know, three years in the league, you wondered what the hell he was. Like, at least you now know, this is a top six guy that plays the wing and has been a difference maker. You see the six goals and eight games in last. years, sorry, the 14 points in 18 and 16 games in last year's playoffs that you referenced. That's what I guess what it was and that's how it goes. You go from, you know, coming as a rookie, 12 goals.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Ah, you're a rookie. Then 19. All right, 20 goal guy. Then the backwards step to 16. Then is he available in trade? Is this a guy that's just kind of how it works, whether or not he was, just how the media works. Yep. And then kind of responded last year.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Anyway, I don't know, they've got a great, it just feels like they've got one of the best goalies in the world. their defense should be solid and they should not have a hard time scoring given that star power. But yet they find themselves in a dog fight here to get into the playoffs after being a president's trophy winner. Hasn't been pretty, but boy, there are a team you wouldn't want to face if you were the president's trophy winner who will get the second wildcard. Like if you're Washington and all of a sudden you're rolling into a series and it's like, oh yeah, there's Fox and Panera and and Shisterkin and oh, look who's heating up now. there's a former first overall pick, there's Crowder who scored 50,
Starting point is 00:19:02 there's Zabinajad, who's one of the best Swedish snipers in the game just a year ago, like Keanu-Miller, good young defense. This is a scary team if they get their shit together, but they've got to get in for it to matter. We are going to, we're going to have, as we say, boots on the ground. We are going to be going to the Big Apple in about half an hour, so a little less,
Starting point is 00:19:23 as intrepid reporter Ryan Pike of Flamesnation.ca, is on this road trip, or at least in the New York area, he will take in, is he doing all these games? I mean, there's three games within, they're all kind of right there.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah, it's all close. Yeah, they're all kind of right there. So we'll check in with him. Thoughts on that game last night. Is there anything else to be said about the game last night? I will just say that
Starting point is 00:19:50 losing Zerre to suspension, probably not great, even though he's been just okay since come back from injuries, but the combination of him man, Backland gone. Like, look at the goals against the last two games. It's a reminder of what Backland does.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Like, I can score a lot, but someone's got to play against the Matthews and the McKinnons of the world at Center Ice. And I don't see anyone in the roster right now that can do it. Boy, if gone, you notice it.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Whether it was the late second or the third, we were sitting there watching and they had the Marner and Matthews line out. And I joke that. It's just like watching the fucking Globetrotters. They're just little back passes. and hey, no lookers and zip. It's like, this is now embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Yeah. Losing, losing, whatever, but when they are toying with you like this, and I'm not, what are you going to do, fight? You're just so far back in the skill department. Yes. It's frustrating and disappointing. That's going to be Connie's great challenge.
Starting point is 00:20:51 You've got a goalie that can help you compete right now, but no other position group are you competitive. you got God bless them Joel Joe Hanley playing top pair and it looks like they got a bunch of second and third lines. I don't know that any of these players on this cavalry flames team cracks the top line safe for the Rangers tonight. They could they could put a line of Sabinajad Panarin and Crider together like which flames knocking any of those guys out. Yeah, it's not. Yeah, I would think that's what do they call it? Rhetorical.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Yeah, it's a rhetorical. Kind of a rhetorical questioner. Service Credit Union. It's the big share contest. back. You've got a little bit of time left. You heap hearing us talking about it. Well, chip, chip, chip, chip, chop, chop. Is that what it is? Shape up and ship out? Well, you know, yeah, I guess just kind of hurry. L.A. L.A. L.A. The service big share contest is back. It's in full swing. It's your chance to win a million

Starting point is 00:22:10 Say, I am going to open up a little he-hoo here. I want to be a part of what you have going on here. You good folks here at service credit union. I like the cut of your jib. And I'm signing up. You can double your entries when you invest in a registered account like a TFSA or an RSP. You set up your paycheck, automatic deposit, bonus entries. Starting point is 00:22:44 Tell them boomer sent you. That's right. Here for the he-ho. I need a little, I was wondering about the rates you have right now. What's today's rate on the, uh, the he-who index? I'm sorry, what? Service.com slash win.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I'm sure it's in there. somewhere. I'm sure it's in there. Boy, it's a big day too. We are going to, we'll get to the Pinder report in a moment. Also, the bracket.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Oh yeah. The play in round is over. The wild cards have been decided. We've set to, and we didn't want to take away from yesterday, St. Patty's Day. We didn't want to get things all kind of, you know. Today's a day.
Starting point is 00:23:24 It gets going. It is the bracket that everyone's talking about. There will be other. you'll hear about in the month of March that are clearly just inferior in comparison. It's the barn burner candy bracket. It is backed by popular demand, and we will decide just what is the greatest candy of the land. 16 of the sweetest treats have been ranked.
Starting point is 00:23:48 They've got their first round opponents set, and we take a look at it. We've gone, and... Sweet 16, baby. Look at it. We go deep. You know, we go deep into it. 16. The cola bottles are the defending champ for the last time we did this.
Starting point is 00:24:04 They've got the blue whales. There you see nibs, jolly ranchers, Swedish berries and Twizzlers, Mike and Ike, sour patch kids, gummy bears, classic. Fuzzy peaches, I think they will be a force to be reckoned with. I agree. Today are... That's called upset there, I think. Could be.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Yeah, could be. Today our focus is on the 512 Twizzlers taking on... Skittles and if you're a top five seed you're doing something right as we take a look at just what the Skittles are all about. Skittles a fan favorite somehow managing to be hard and sticky at the same time. You'll enjoy these little fruity pellets provided you've never eaten fruit of any kind for the sake of comparison. But whatever, who likes fruit anyway? Stupid fruit. Who wants some sugar-coated rocks? Me please. They'll stay in your fingers, stay in your mouth. If you spill them in your pockets, they'll stay in your pants. And God forbid, the bag tips over, they'll go spill it all over the goddamn place. In fact, I bet if you go and look under the seat of your car right now, you'll find one of these little bastards.
Starting point is 00:25:15 And if you do, just go ahead and eat it. Not like suddenly now it's bad for you. Skittles, taste the rainbow. Ah, Skittles. It's, you know what it is? It's the colors. it's the shiny package the bag it's brilliant mark because you go in there
Starting point is 00:25:33 like I'm looking at the bag bags I can't and it's it's kind of glistening red bag colors the the shiny bag yeah they shimmer it's got a little shimmer to you're right oh your research yeah well that's what we do right it's we don't half ass anything around this place
Starting point is 00:25:54 god no wouldn't dream of it right It's just, what am I going to, what am I going to go for? Look how pretty, just it, it just, you know. Those colors pop. Oh, the colors pop. It's red. You take it, you take like four or five of them and give them one of those. So you're not separating by color?
Starting point is 00:26:19 I'm a bit of a weirdo like that. You are? Eat some yellows. Then I'll move on to a different color. Really? Greens. You're throwing multiple flavors at the same time? Sure am.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Yeah. It's just kind of, you know what it is? It's one of these? and then one of these. I feel like I've been doing this wrong the whole time. That's how that's going. Harris. So the Skittles and then the,
Starting point is 00:26:41 you're 512, the Twizzlers. Oh, yeah. If you had a vote, not that you're looking to sway the competition or the square the audience, the voting public. You know, I like both, they're both, I like in different spots.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Something about the Twizzlers, the movies is nice, road trip I like, but if we're just, go on straight candy. You want to put a bowl of something out that's going to draw some attention. Skittles are a winner, man. Fan of both. Let's get Jack's opinion. Jack, where are you at on Skittles versus Twizzlers? Skittles, 100%. Not even close. Not even close. All right. I don't get the, so you pick them out and sort them by color, like you're a five-year-old? Yes, that's correct. So when would you be enjoying the Skittl treat? Because I find if it's a road trip,
Starting point is 00:27:40 I'm grabbing a little, ah, some Skittles just have some sweet to go with whatever else I'm shoving to my fat face. Let's say I'm at a house party and someone's got a little container of them. If it's a bowl, so you're rooting through. I might grab a little handful or I might whatever they're doing and then I'll just sort them. I'll put the yellow's here and the reds here. Green's over there. Oranges over here. Then I'll be like, okay, how am I going to attack this?
Starting point is 00:28:02 What am I saving for the end? So is that only with Skittles or is that just all multicolored candies? I'm trying to think of another. I don't know that, uh, Well, there'd be your starbursts. Probably to do colors. Yeah. But I'm not one of those psychos that has to eat all their peas and then all their mashed potatoes and then all their turkey and then the stuffing.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Like I'm okay to have a bit of everything. Hey, Ryan, what would you do with Mike and Ikes? How many colors are there? We've got a handful. We've got the cherry, the lemon, the strawberry, the strawberry, lime and orange. So good. I think, you know what? I think you're way off.
Starting point is 00:28:41 I think you have slept on the mic. and Ike's a little bit. I'm sure they're fine. I've never had the inklin to actually acquire them. Now notice something with the packaging with Mike and Ike a little different than the others. They come in a goddamn box. That's right. They come in a goddamn box. It's tough because I've got some of these things done. Okay, so who's going to survive round one?
Starting point is 00:29:09 Yeah. Then I got to get them in this week. I feel like I got to get Twizzlers in now. I got a banger for Twizzlers. So I got to get that going because Jack's got me worried now. And I mean, these, then there's this. Remember I said to you yesterday? Like, look at the, look in the bag. Remember I said they cut kind of a white kind of a.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Salt water, Dean. They live in oceans. The blue whales, just a little salty dusting. Delicious. Yummy. Yeah. Well, you know, good times. Good times.
Starting point is 00:29:42 So where do we find this, Jack? We wanted to get it on flamesnation.com. But I guess we don't have that technology to get them put on the web? Stupid company. Can we get it on the website? Ooh. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Maybe let's talk to Flash Stevens. Maybe Flash can get some. He can put the link in his article. That's right. Jeez. Really, how fucking hard is it to get on a website? I don't, yeah. It's the web.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Where do we go to get it? Oh, I don't know. Should we go online? No. No, you know what? Hey, Barnberger listeners and viewers will mail you out a fucking ballot. And then you can, with a prepaid stamped envelope and you can send it back to us.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Because it's 1972. How do you feel about this, Dean? Well, it's so stupid. Isn't it? Like, let's just call, like, cut the shit. Well, here's the thing. You wouldn't want to have extra web traffic to your website. You wouldn't want to drive.
Starting point is 00:30:41 You would not want to send people to the website. They might stay and read something. God forbid they look at something else. or an ad or anything else that's on the website. Yeah. Can't have it. Where do we find it, Jack? I just put it in the chat.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Mm-hmm. And it'll be in the show link description, the podcast link description. And we will circle back on the website thing. I don't. I think the guy we have on today's. I don't know. Yeah, let's talk to Pike's the guy.
Starting point is 00:31:13 You got to stop going to these bureaucratic middlemen. You got to go to the people to get shit done, Dean. You talk to Pike. It's a pipe bomb. That's how you get shit done. Anyways, when you click on the link, bring you here, you're going to click vote here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And let's do it. See, this part seems easy enough. It's just getting there. Yes. I got an HTTPS colon slash slash common ninja dash site dash D2258 FC2-2-3 dash. Yeah. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:31:50 Yeah. What I like about this is on some of these sites, the moment you vote, you see results. Yeah. Only Jack can really watch and, because that'll sway people. They'll be like, oh shit, we're too behind. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Bill, I didn't change my IP address so I could vote again. But we'll reveal all the results at the same time end of the week. Should be fun. Yeah, Friday at 11 voting ends. Oh. Yeah, pretty good. Is that going to give us enough time to turn around the bracket, Jack? Or do you want to bump that up a bit?
Starting point is 00:32:20 well jack's going to have a little bit of a heads up right it's kind of like he's going down to the wire someone's got to be 11-1 you know what I mean I mean R Jalb be on it okay awesome that's great it's kind of like when you're watching uh you know WWE or something and there's a big match the winner's going to WrestleMania yeah like as soon as the match is over they've got the graphic ready
Starting point is 00:32:44 for the main event unbelievable department of graphics and how they can turn that around so quickly. Was I a little harsh there? You know what? You're just being boom. That's how it is. And it's entertaining as hell. So if I worked for the website, I'd probably be upset. And if you're a viewer of the show, it was funny as hell. So I'd just say keep doing you. Well, yeah. It's entertainment. I still feel your position is sound. You don't need to defend your position. It is a sound argument.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Yeah, I think it, I think it is very sound. Yeah. I wonder what the side of the argument would be. No, well, we can't get it on the website because blank. That was a verbal. To play both sides. That's what you did. You just verbally shoveled whoever said no. But that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:33:40 So if, so the answer would be don't want to. Don't know. Nah. Like what would be in that. Don't want to. Nah. Don't know how. I can't.
Starting point is 00:33:53 I don't know. I can't give you a reason. reasonable answer. There's no reason why you wouldn't want to. Yeah. Can't have people going to the website. Don't want web traffic. Hits are bad. Now you're doing it again. Emma? You're whining yourself back out. Is that what they call passive aggressive? Is that what that is? It's aggressive. Yeah. That wasn't very passive to be fair. Okay. So, no, no. Do you want to try passive aggressive swing at them? No, it's good. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. You know what? And it's really not fair because they may not have even heard from us to say, can we put it on the website? Did we?
Starting point is 00:34:36 I emailed, yeah. And then it, it was one of those things where I emailed someone and then they passed it on to someone else. And then they were just more, it just got more. Right. I'll tell you, it's so great to be away from that big corporate giant mentality that we've been used to for so many years.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Yeah, there's no bureaucrats and middlemen hiding here. Or any emails, that's right. You want something done, it gets done. Because it's just, you know, you don't have to worry about that. By the way, March 1st is when our new email addresses, I have emailed three different people multiple times from different email addresses, just in case. Hey, crickets.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Do I have a cricket sound effect? I must. I thought you were going to do a stop hammering or a shovel or a just thing sucks. I feel like I have to have a, I guess not. no, I know I do. I just don't know where I put it. Go fuck yourself. No, that ain't it.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Although I sent you some drops this morning. Yeah, you did. I was doing, I was doing, sorry, I was doing my Skittles. I knew you weren't, you wouldn't have today, but, uh, look, the Leafs won again. Yeah. The Scottish lady with the monster hammer, she left town and they're back on the country. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jack, how don't I have crickets?
Starting point is 00:36:05 Do I have crickets on this board? I feel like it comes with the crickets. You must have taken it out. There is. I have it on that board, but I don't have it on my other board. You have two boards plugged in right now? Yeah. You're an animal.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Well, I mean, quality shit like this just doesn't happen, Ryan. You know, you got to do things to get shit done. What's on the one board that's not on the other? I know the one board's got everything, I thought. The one board, it's got like a, it's got some generic stuff that like Jack said, it just kind of, I don't know how the, because of course there's the,
Starting point is 00:36:46 classic, there's the show end. There's the, that's the, that's, you know, we could use that a lot. Last night's game. The website deal. All that could work.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Hammering Hawaiian shirt, hero, god damn it horn. Nine times blue it sucks. Dyeria dead. No. Oh, fuck. Going great. Oh, my God. Pinder 41 Coors. God damn bracket theme. That's on the one board. Anything jingle your bells there? Yeah, it just fucking sucks. No, no, what was the... That's the one. I feel like some of them still are better with the beeps. Yeah, a good hard beep is actually wonderful. Or even a really light bleep.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Like our old boy DeForest, he was the best at the lightest bleeps of all time. Yeah. You could catch the, and the, they were so lean. And then there are some, you can't have them beeped. Oh, fuck. Like you need. You needed that. You need it.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Yeah, you need it there. For sure. Now, is this the insider hotline if we, uh, yeah, absolutely. Sure. I mean, he is dropping bombs and really keeping us a breath. Pike bomb, It's a pike bomb Pike bomb, baby, big
Starting point is 00:38:15 Pike bomb, bike bomb, It's a pike bomb, get ready for a big pike bomb. Oh, man, we go to the insider hotline, its presentation of Crystal Waters, plumbing, and heating your Crystal Clear choice for home comfort 403-219, 4100 or check them out online. Webcastleclair Calgary.com.
Starting point is 00:38:38 The internet. It's really making waves. Ryan Pike. What is this. Joins us from Manhattan. I am currently in Midtown Manhattan. I hope my audience, okay. I'm in a hotel lobby in Midtown Manhattan.
Starting point is 00:38:53 It's all right. It'll do. Great. Until it won't. And then we'll crush you for it. But so far is so good. So you're in, you didn't go to Toronto. You said, I'm just going to skip that sound thinking and planning in hindsight.
Starting point is 00:39:10 I mean, all due respect to Toronto, but I've been to Toronto enough. I've seen it. So if you have a choice between an extra day in Manhattan for Toronto, I'm happy with my choices. That's fair. Yeah. So how did you book your hotel? Did you use the internet or a website? Carrier, pigeon, mail?
Starting point is 00:39:31 I jammed a bunch of money into an envelope and said hotel and then threw it into the lake and then someone called me. Yeah. So now you're on, obviously you're on this trip, Flames Rangers tonight, Madison Square Garden. Are you doing all the games now moving forward on the trip or what's your plan out there? Rangers tonight, it's a devil's Thursday and the Islanders on, I think it's an earlier game on Saturday. So, yeah, all three events. That would be good. So, all right.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Can we unpack the disaster that was last night? Like, what are we going to see tonight? Like, is this a group that still believes? I start to wonder now. This has been a really ugly stretch. I mean, they're not going to be a team that can outscore their mistakes. And so they just need to make fewer mistakes in the other team. And that's a tough way to play.
Starting point is 00:40:26 And when you take as many penalties as they did, like that second period killed them because, you know, you take a penalty nine seconds in, you get scored on. Uh-oh. We take two more penalties before the end of the period. You get scored on in both them, that's the game. And, you know, regardless of how well they played at five-on-five, and I thought they were decent at five-on-five, but the leaves have the ability to just wreck you with their special teams.
Starting point is 00:40:48 And you give Austin Matthews that many clean looks. And I thought, you know, on a couple of the goals, both the goals that Max Jomey was in on, I'd even strength, there was big defensive lapses that gave someone a clear look or way too much time for the buck. And again, you know, even the max domics in the world, you can't give clean looks like that. So, you know, they're going to have to be a lot more disciplined and a lot more composed against the Rangers and finish going forward for the last 16 games. So just three for three, the Leafs Power Play looking at it. I mentioned it to Boom last night.
Starting point is 00:41:22 We're sitting at Cowboys Casino watching those comfy recliners. and I'm like, how does this team with this personnel and this coaching staff and these players have a dreadful penalty kill? I'm looking today. It's updated as 27th out of 32 teams. Of all the hallmarks this team has, they all fit into a good penalty kill. Goaltending, hard work, structure. You know, they're not undercoached.
Starting point is 00:41:46 They're probably overcoached of anything. How in the world does this team have an awful penalty kill? It's the one thing that it's like, is this piece from a different puzzle? How is this not fitting? Well, I'll point out, since Trent Cole came up and got his legs under him as the PK coach, they've been much, much better. But I would say generally speaking, I mean, the flames are not one of the NHL's better face-off teams. They have nobody who is right-handed and can take a face-off outside of, like they've had Matt Coronado taking the strong-side face-offs at times because they don't have anyone else who's righty who can take face-offs. And so that's been a big problem.
Starting point is 00:42:22 And that's why we heard so much heading on the trade deadline about Craig Conroy, kicking tires on a right shot forward who can take face off and help out the penalty kill. And we heard this a lot during the, the unfortunately many Bradshaw living, you know, postseason availability at the end of the season, usually a playoffless season. I think the phrase the tree is usually used was you ask too few to do too much. And if you look at the flames right now, I mean, you're seeing a lot of weaker, arguably too much weaker, because you're asking to do a lot.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You're asking Grassness Anderson, who's, you know, I don't think it's unfair to say at times you struggled defensively this year, but they don't really have anyone else do the tough minutes. And so you're leading really hard on Anderson and you're really, you know, you're leading really hard on Weeger and, you know, Paul and, you know, the rotation of the fourth, the third pair has become a bit of a mess the last little bit, just in terms of them rotating bodies in and out. And so you kind of need to have different players, have specialities, and they don't overlap because, you know, Michael, Baclin up until they acquired Mark and Frost is playing both sides of special teams. I love Michael Bacclan. I don't think he should be playing both sides of special teams, especially I don't want to say at his age because like I can talk, like any of us can talk. But there are better uses of Michael Baclin's time and the hockey he has left in him than
Starting point is 00:43:41 putting him out in every situation. But he was out there because they didn't have anyone better suited to it. So as this project, the flames have going on moves forward, I think we'll see. some guys come in, a few probably young guys who can start, you know, using the burden on the older guys. But I mean, this is year one. And let's just call a spade of spade. There's going to be some nights like the Toronto loss.
Starting point is 00:44:07 There's going to be some nights like that Tampa Bay loss that they just get away from them because they're a team that has some holes. I think they'd probably admit. And they hope that their hard work can overcome their deficiencies. And I think for a lot of time this year it has. but, you know, I remember you only have the horses you have, and you can only ask them to do, to work harder and play discipline and all this stuff. Before at a certain point, they don't have that much left to give.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Just looking here, because we talked about it, it's one of the things that'll be dealt with in the offseason. But for Kevin Ball, he's averaging 21 minutes a night. And I think for a lot of, for the Flames defense, it took 60 games, but we are at that, spot now where the guys that you trust are playing too many minutes. And then there's some guys that you maybe don't trust. They're in there, but probably too many for them. And then they've just got too many guys that maybe shouldn't be getting minutes at all, right? Jake Bean, Miramanov has now been, been out.
Starting point is 00:45:09 We love Braden Pahall, but there's limits. I know people, why don't you move Pahal up higher? That's not the answer. That's what he is. You have to cap. You play everybody to their strengths. And they've just been unable to play many to their strengths. either too high or too much.
Starting point is 00:45:24 And it feels like now finally the dams broken on them a little bit. Yeah, you know, and I don't think it's unfair to say. Like, I love Joel Hanley. Joel Hanley is a great seven. And Joel Hanley playing in your top four, I don't think it's a Joel. It's not Joel Hanley's problem. Joel Hanley's been very good,
Starting point is 00:45:40 much better than anyone who expected him. But I think in a year, if you have, say, a Zane Perrick in that role, in that top four mixed with Anderson and Weager and ball, maybe the flames are a more cohesive team because the you know, Hanley or his equivalent is down a slot and it allows you to do different things. And I think that, you know, I wrote in the season preview, I would add it by way to make no predictions whatsoever because my big prediction of the
Starting point is 00:46:08 flames is I don't know where the hell these guys are because we had no idea what the goaltending panel would turn out like. I always drag on our pals of ESPN. We love, we love Wish, but ESPN pointed out that they had the flames, goaltending tandem at the season. ranked 30th because you had a guy coming in with 15 NHL games and you had a guy coming in off major hip surgery. Well, the good news is they've been pretty good. I think ESPN updated the rankings are 13th now, which feels much closer to what they should be. But at the time, we didn't know.
Starting point is 00:46:38 On the blue line, they had eight defense minutes within the season and of them, two of them were guys. We felt like were reliable, good NHLers who knew what they could do. And then he had six projects. And the good news is some of the projects that turned out okay. I mean, Kevin Ball has turned out to be Kevin Ball. He's big. He's consistent. He's got a sneaky good shot. Paul Hall is a really good third pairing guy.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Probably shouldn't be higher in the rotation than that because he's really good at being a third parent guy, but probably not good at the other things. So we've learned things about them, but I think we're also at the point of this thing where, okay, the things we've learned of now just leading to other questions, because if the thing is, hey, you're better than you thought you could be or great, how do you become consistently good. How do you become great? And the answer is changes, but they're hard to do in season, right? Yeah. Boom had mentioned this morning, like, how does this group find more
Starting point is 00:47:30 offense? They're dead last in almost every offensive metric. Even strength goals, shooting percentage, total goals per game. It's an ugly scene and there isn't, you know, a superstar for the Wranglers that's ready to break in. I think there are a couple years away before the Gridden, Bashar, Sunyev types will be on the big squad if they arrive on the big squad. Yeah, I mean, you know, I'll say this. I, the regulars are a very lean group right now.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Sam Hanzek is nearing a return from an injury that kept him out for a better part of a month. So that will be a positive. We see him play in the NHL and he was pretty decent. He's been good with the Wranglers, but, you know, he's been building up his game. I think, you know, I personally expected a little bit more from William Stronggren in the second half of this season because he was really good in the first half. And then he sort of slid back a bit and sort of faded into the background a bit as the Wranglers have sort of leaned out. And, you know, you would have hoped that if he was someone with NHL upside, he would be sort of taking the team on his back at these times.
Starting point is 00:48:34 So, Wovialb has, but he's not an defensive different bigger. To answer your question, Brian, I don't, I mean, Connor Zari will help. He's back in his suspension starting tonight. that'll help. But, you know, the Flames, there are a team that has to do it by committee. And a lot of their guys are having really tough, effective seasons, Yeager, Sharon Govich, I don't think his true level is this.
Starting point is 00:48:56 I think he's better than he's shown. But he's also sort of been, he's the center, then he's a winger, then he's the center. And I think maybe that sort of gets in your head a bit in terms of what your responsibilities are. And, you know, we've seen a few guys in that role. I think having more consistent centers will help. But I just think the big challenge is, you know, their power play good, but it sort of slid back.
Starting point is 00:49:19 It was about 15th and now it's sort of sliding back closer to around 20th. Part of that is, you know, I think teams know what the flames are and how to counter them. But, you know, they're a team that will outwork at 5 on 5.5 and then they have to be very patient and rely on you to make mistakes. And if they're not getting the balances, like if you make three mistakes in the game, the flames are hoping to spawned at least two of them. because they don't have the firepower to just take over a game. But, you know, they, I wish I had a good answer for you. Yeah, I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:49:49 It's the right answer, though. You know what? And it's, it's going to keep Conroy up at night. How do you, how do you try and figure this out? It's because you are, so many fans, you're on that tipping point. It's just, just go down. You're clearly, because we said, this is,
Starting point is 00:50:05 if you wanted to envision it, want to make, definitely want to make the playoffs. careful what you wish for because that's what a playoff team on on certain occasions can look like and they can really run you into you want five or six four five games of that or
Starting point is 00:50:21 or where he had. I'm kind of done this is and not trying to make it sound like it's a hot take I like Sharon Govich and I said to Ryan last night it's too bad for Conroy because the deal is a good deal the guy scores 30 wants to stay
Starting point is 00:50:39 five million bucks it's not terrible though if but i just don't know at some point the player has to take some accountability did he get injured early yes has he been moved up and down the lineup positionally and all of that yes but he just has this has been a dreadful year he has 12 goals and that just it's almost flattering his shooting percentage is 21% which is not terrible he's on the ice for 17 minutes a night he's getting power play time they're using him as you would as you would want at some point the player has to
Starting point is 00:51:14 come through for you if he is that guy I don't know maybe he isn't that guy right you said is he a 30 goal guy maybe maybe not but he's got to get more than what he's been doing and right now when you when everything else has fallen off the table offensively he's one guy you should be able to count on because he's done it before
Starting point is 00:51:34 zeri hasn't backland like all these these guys haven't done it this guy has the shot and the skill set to be able to do it. And he's not only is he not doing it, he's just kind of invisible right now. I use a thing I call the James Neal test for offensive players. If you're not scoring, what are you doing to help the team? And if the answer is not a lot, you might find yourself playing in Eminton because there's nothing else to do with you.
Starting point is 00:52:03 I like Sharonkovich as an offensive player, but I think the big challenges him. Like, he kills penalties and he's okay at it. But, you know, the top key, you know, he's playing with Coleman on the PK because Coleman is a really good two-way player. When Coleman's not scoring, he's keeping the puck out of your zone. When, you know, Rooney is not scoring, he's at least, you know, eating up some minutes on the fourth line and killing penalties for you and winning some faceoffs on occasion.
Starting point is 00:52:27 You know, he's, he's not amazing, but he's a fairly prototypical flames fourth line center in the last few years. I just think that's a challenge with me with the Sharon Gover. Like he's just, you know, he's, I don't call him a one-trick pony, but like this year, he's playing like a one-trick pony. Because if he's not scoring, what's you doing? And we're not seeing the level of dynamism that we've seen in the past. Like, I guess Toronto is a lot of, you know, skating up the wing. Oh, they steering into the boards.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Oh, well, I guess they're not the puck anymore. Yeah. And I said 20, 21%. Either way, it's just, we kind of talk about it when it, when there's a trade made. and you think you've made a good trade. It's like, well, what are the team the trade you know? And right now, we're almost seeing carbon copy stuff from the first stretch of games that he had in New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Comes in as a young guy. Okay, that's your first year. Then breaks through in a bit with the devil's 24 goals. Nice. The next year, hmm, we're not seeing as much. Lindy Ruff takes them off the power play, puts them on the penalty kill, drops them down the lineup, 13 goals. Comes to Calgary.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Boom. 31 goals. Hey, what a trade. Here's the money. Great trade. Look at this guy. What a bunch of idiots in New Jersey. This year, hmm, 12 goals.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Got a penalty kill guy. It's very much deja vu for number 17, I'm afraid. Consistently inconsistent. And Pike, obviously, we've got to put huge dough down that he's going to have that bounce back here next year. But, yeah, I think, just to paraphrase, boom and I were saying last night, like, he's clearly not 12 goal bad. And, you know, we sometimes see the first year of new contracts, tough for guys for whatever reason, mentally. Maybe you ease up without thinking you are just subconsciously.
Starting point is 00:54:13 I also don't know that you're going to be able to put them down for 30 very often, but somewhere in the middle, there's actually a helpful player, right? It doesn't have to be these polar extremes. Yeah, and especially, like, if the idea is, like, I'll shout out a player. Matt Cornell has been so consistent for the flames this year. And he's been in the top nine, pretty much all season, outside of that one week where they put him on the fourth line. He's been in the top nine all season because consistently you can like, okay, it's been two, three games.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Cornell is going to score a key goal here or make an offensive play that leads to a goal. And it's like Plotford. And Plotford players are the guys you can build your group around. The reason why the flames, you know, a few years ago when he was a pending free agent, plunked down the money they did for Michael Backland was Michael Backland did the things he did consistently. So maybe he wouldn't chip in offensively at a ton. but you kind of do with a reasonable parameter what you're going to get from backland in any game segment and you can build around and i think that's a big challenge of the flames right now because
Starting point is 00:55:13 sharon govich he's sort of been all over the place and he's had those stretches where you look at him and you go there's the guy he was last season and then you see some of the stretches that they could go that's probably the guy that made them want to trade him to calgary for to foley and if he could find if he could be a consistent like 20 goal guy and bring that level of offensive engagement in execution on a 20 game level consistently, I don't think he'd be as frustrating a player to watch because I think people are especially fans. I get fans to ask me like, so what's up with Sarangovic?
Starting point is 00:55:45 What's wrong with him? I'm like, because we've seen the flashes of pure brilliance and then we don't notice him for like two weeks. And I can only imagine here the flames coaching staff or, or Craig Conroy, you know, the big challenge might be maybe, maybe you know, getting to change up his training, maybe you sort of just get him to clear his head. You know, he seems like a guy might be in his own head right now. But, you know, if he can unlock it, I mean, the nice thing, nice thing for the flames is
Starting point is 00:56:14 that big deal doesn't start until next season. So that's a theoretically next year problem. But you also, you know, you kind of need to figure him out because if you're going to have him on your team for five years, even with the cap going up, you want him to. to have a thing that he can lean on when he's not scoring that makes him effective. Because that way, maybe he can be effective more consistently. I was just looking at Coronado. I think we had done kind of gone through.
Starting point is 00:56:41 He had never gone, he hasn't gone six games in a row without a goal. Very consistent for a young player. Yeah. He has a New York kid, has gone five without a goal. Oh. Tonight, boys. And he'll be, he'll be playing against his beloved New York. Islanders his childhood team on Saturday. So he's a child with him after practice a couple
Starting point is 00:57:03 days ago. He's he's pretty excited about that. Nice. So what does Ryan Pike do in Midtown on a I mean, I guess with time change. You don't have a lot of time. If you're going to this game tonight, we've got to get you ready. We've got to get your makeup on and your wigs and all that sort of stuff. Get you ready. Get to eat right. I don't know what we're going to do for food, but we're, I think we're going to go wander up to, to Bryant Park, maybe up to the Times Square for a bit, poke around. We did the 9-11 Memorial this morning. That was,
Starting point is 00:57:32 it's well done, but it's not exactly a feel-good place. Right. No, it's, you need to kind of check it out and see it. Now, you were getting some,
Starting point is 00:57:41 were you getting food recommendations from people? Was that, were you on Twitter or X, canvassing the people? Not this time. I have, I have enough friends who live in New York City, they keep telling me,
Starting point is 00:57:53 like, oh, you got to try this place. But, the nice thing about to Manhattan is, You can basically throw a rock in any direction and hit somewhere that's halfway decent for food. So I don't think I'm going to go hungry. Well, we'd like to check in with you again if that's possible.
Starting point is 00:58:09 I don't know what your travel plans are, but if we could get you again, that would be great. How's your Thursday, Pike? How's your Thursday? I got to go to New Jersey on Thursday. New Jersey? New Jersey. Well, it's not far. I think you can see it from where you're at.
Starting point is 00:58:26 What's the distance? Give us the pin us the picture here. I got a 30 minute train ride. Yeah, you're going to take the train over? They have trains here. It's weird. Yeah, you kind of do a thing where you kind of, because there's water between where you're at and New Jersey. And the train still get you there.
Starting point is 00:58:43 A river, I'm told. Yeah. I didn't know it was possible, but apparently they're able to make it work. Yeah. I was told, though, that when you get to Newark, don't be, don't be lollygagging around. Get to the rink. Get inside and mind your peas and cues because a little bit danger can be a little bit danger over there. Mike, when we do check in next with you, I'd like you to have an answer for this question, but Coke bottles are blue whales.
Starting point is 00:59:13 We've got our candy bracket going now, and we'd love to get some of your insight on that. Oh, I mean, it's Coke bottles all the way. What would be, so if Ryan Pike, he's getting ready for a trip to New York, he's getting on an airplane, there's a snack, the snack counter, the bags of candies and stuff. You know, maybe maybe I do want. a sweet, no on chocolate, that's for a different day, but maybe a candy. What's it going to be? What would Ryan Pike dig into?
Starting point is 00:59:38 There's the brand. It's hard. It's hard to go against Skittles. They're very versatile. Mike and Ix, though, are a nice dark horse because you have a nice flavor variety for Mike Nikes. Now, how do you eat your Skittles? Do you go through the bag like a maniac and pick them
Starting point is 00:59:54 out color by color, or do you just kind of put them into the palm of your hand and have a couple? Palm of the hand. Yeah. One of the time or are you throwing multiple colors at the same time? Yeah. How are you doing it? Oh, you got to mix it up like two or three at a time.
Starting point is 01:00:07 You don't want to put like a giant handful of Skittles. But you got to- You guys are out of control. You're insane. How's your tongue going to handle all this chaos? It's a lot. It's like, well, I have coffee in the day and I was going to have a sandwich and I also have an ice cream.
Starting point is 01:00:19 I'm going to put all in the blender and have to say, you guys are maniacs. You're insane. You could probably tell the conversation we had earlier in the show. I'm not sure if we're pointed in that direction. Pike, I'm happy you're out. out there. Now, if somebody wanted to get something put on flamesnation.ca, who would they talk to? Allegedly me, but I don't know what my powers are anymore. Okay, because here's what we were thinking,
Starting point is 01:00:43 because we have, you saw the graphic, right? We've put some effort and time into the candy bracket. We'd like to make it as easy as possible for the people to go and vote. And we were thinking maybe the easiest thing that, the barriers of entry, right? The easiest would be, go to flamesnation.ca and there'll be a, you know, maybe a banner or something where you can click on it and it'll take you to where you can vote. Is that like, is that doable deal? How hard is that? I have no idea.
Starting point is 01:01:13 I don't, I don't, our web people basically say, put things in this template and don't break the website. And I do my best not to break the website. So to go back, you would then not be the one to talk to. That's correct.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Following that. Okay. My mistake. Good stuff. I can make things, but who knows. Go have some matzabal soup. I get to get some coffee. I'm dangerously undercapinated.
Starting point is 01:01:38 All right. We get it, buddy. Outta boy. Thanks, Pike. Pike bomb. Ryan Pike, New York City, Manhattan, Midtown. You get mugged or what's the 365 odds on that? All I know is when we went to New Jersey, we were going to,
Starting point is 01:01:55 oh, we're going to morning skate, kind of everybody said in what they had to. going to go out where you get this is the security down there where you where you're headed let's go for a walk get some lunch probably no what do you guys want to eat we'll get it brought in you'll get a brought in yeah it's trust us the teams literally get a police escort onto the freeway when leaving the arena they wait for the cops are sitting in front of the bus cherry is going you guys ready to go and out everybody goes. And then after about, I don't know, two, three, five miles, the cop cars kind of veer off and the bus keeps going to Philly or wherever it's going.
Starting point is 01:02:38 Excited states, man. It's crazy. Yeah, kind of crazy. How do you feel about the Pike Skiddle take? I like it. I'm fine with it. Again, I'm not trying to convince people to do it my way.
Starting point is 01:02:49 I'm okay with everyone doing their own thing. Okay. I'm just telling you I'm a bit of a psycho that I will sort by color. Oh, yeah. I'm on an airplane. You got that little ring that holds your. your drink, pour them in there. After wiping it down, obviously.
Starting point is 01:03:02 Of course, yeah. Okay, the yellow's here up here. You know, orange is here. Who's going to get it first? Who's been a bad skittal? What about, what about pens? Do you get pens in different colors, too, and sorted colors, or is that?
Starting point is 01:03:17 I don't know what you're talking about. Right. Um, I haven't uncorked the green yet today. Rangers are blue, flames are red. Psycho. That's a good word. Yeah, word, not mine. sociopath. Hockey, North America is Calgary's best run adult recreational hockey league since
Starting point is 01:03:36 2008. Summer hockey. You love it. Throw on your flippy floppies, grab your bag, throw it over your shoulder into the box of the truck or whatever you get there. It's not frozen. Your skates aren't rock hard when you put them on. Summer Hawk. There's women's division. There's a co-ed division. Starting point is 01:05:04 Nope. I'm Jack, you know, like created designs on playing for the penguins and lined up
Starting point is 01:05:11 a scene. I just want to make sure you're over the heartbreak. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Yeah. Let's do the Penner, the Pinner report. Huh? Penner report. Brought to you by Village Honda.

Even I got to thinking, well, would it be the worst thing in the world to find out what I might be able to get for my vehicle? I'm going to drive the one that I've got. I'm going to drive it right into the ground or maybe, you know, see what it's worth and maybe a little upgrade. Million dollar buying event is back. Village Honda wants to buy your pre-owned vehicle, even if you don't buy theirs.

You can begin the appraisal process online at VillageHonda.com. Ryan Pindlew. We'll present the Pinder Report. Just heard from Pike. There's a bunch of writing going on on Flamesdation.ca.
Starting point is 01:06:24 Writers writing. Who knew? Beyond the box score, Flames do not. not have luck of the irish get blown out by may police an accurate headline uh from flash there and then why was dust and wolf pulled after the second period in toronto do you have the unsolved mysteries theme or x files maybe that's a good yeah i should probably get that should probably get some mysterious kind of mister mysterious bed anyway was he pulled or did did wolf say f this i'm not going back in there if none of you other bastards are going to get of a shit. Join me right. Believe me now. That's what he said.
Starting point is 01:07:01 They're right back at it tonight against the New York Rangers. We've got, yeah, it's game day. We know that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Interestingly, the Rangers just okay. 4-4 and 2 in their last 10 at home, 16, 15, and 3. It's a very not mediocre roster with very mediocre results and they're tough to get a read on this year. Let's take a look at the playoffs in the West Calgary Flames. What you got? What you got? Well, they're two points out with a game in hand.
Starting point is 01:07:32 They were two points out with two games in hand last night. Need those games in hand to turn into points in the standings if they want to get back into this thing. So the games in hand themselves aren't worth points. No, no, no, no. What they represent is an opportunity to get points. And so last night they went 0 for two in their opportunity for points. And we'll see. They beat the Rangers 3-2 earlier this year.
Starting point is 01:07:58 People booed Adam Fox. It probably won't be as much booing in New York City tonight. The rest I can't really tell you. Although I did like the Coronado tidbit you had. We'll revisit our bets later in the program. Now, it's boomer math on that. I do like it. If somebody wanted to check, but I believe over the course of the year,
Starting point is 01:08:18 because we talked about who's been the most consistent guy. I think somebody had said Coronado is, well, really? And then you look at it. And the longest kind of drought, now there's level of play and all of that. I get that. He's been pretty. He's a half point of game guy. And he's got, I think it's 16 goals now.
Starting point is 01:08:35 He's not gone for long stretches without scoring. And I think the longest stretch was six games. Yeah. And now he's gone five. Maybe feels like he's due. New York state of mine for Long Island kid. All right. Schedule.
Starting point is 01:08:51 What's going on? by the way, a lot of these teams in action night should be a bit of a banger on the Tuesday schedule. We'll revisit that. The month has not been great. You got your doors blown off by Florida after losing to Tampa. You somehow eke to point out in Carolina, despite getting vastly outplayed.
Starting point is 01:09:07 You did get a win in Philly. You lost in Dallas. You won with a single goal against Montreal. Thank you, Dustin Wolf. Blue a third period lead to Vancouver. Got your doors blown off by Colorado. We got your doors blown off by Toronto. It doesn't get a lot easier.
Starting point is 01:09:21 There's a lot of L's there. A lot of L's, tough month. Second of a back to back tonight. Five o'clock start from MSG. It's then going to be the Devils and Islanders before a two-game homestand. Seattle, Dallas, and then Edmonton, Colorado. It's a tough month.
Starting point is 01:09:39 Yeah. Might be for the better. Might be for the better. We'll see it goes tonight. Rangers, let's tell you about them. Lining up like yay. Panarin Trocheck and Will Cooley. That's a makeshift top line.
Starting point is 01:09:53 I would suggest the Lafrenier, Miller, and Zabinajad line is more dangerous, just based on their career trajectories. But, hey, that's pretty good top six. And then Chris Kreider has been taken out of that top six. He's playing third line with Carrick and Parsinen. The third line had a bit of a tweak. They've got Barard moved down to the third line. Othman out and Parsinen has come in.
Starting point is 01:10:17 Brozinski and Rampi will play the middle and the right side. on the back end, that fourth pair not playing acquisitions this year, Carson Sousie and Calvin Dahan, why don't you have some popcorn? Lovely facility. You can look around the press box. MSG, what a place to be. Poor Seuss. Or maybe not.
Starting point is 01:10:37 I don't know. It's going to get traded here. This is going to be great, fresh start. You're going to play. This is going to be awesome. Not playing. He scored in his first game, if you recall. He's like, this is great.
Starting point is 01:10:49 I love being a great. Ranger. Yeah. See ya, kid. Okay. Also, Shasturkin and net has been confirmed. He was in the starters net and left the ice first, so you will get one of the great NHL netminders of the last decade at one end and hopefully one of the great
Starting point is 01:11:05 annual goaltenders of the next decade at the other end. Flames a fair dwell against Shasturkin. They have. They actually have at least at home. At least at home. I would be very, very confident that his numbers against the Calgary Flames are his worst against any team in the NHL. They've yarded them for like five and six multiple times. Odd.
Starting point is 01:11:25 Igor Shasturkin is two and three lifetime against the flames with a three. 0.02 goals against. And a 9.16. Still a 916. They've peppered them apparently. But either way. Under 5 hundred against the flames. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:41 And then the Rangers, they're playing for the similar stakes to the flames just in the other conference. They're holding a second wild card. But look at the game's play. They're only a point up on Montreal. all who hold two games in hand. Also Detroit within striking distance with their game in hand and even Columbus as well who they just beat in this recent run of play.
Starting point is 01:12:00 This is a great race. There's a lot of teams here. There's going to be a lot of good hockey down the stretch. We'll see if the West turns out that way too. Yeah. This is a massive game for the Rangers. Really is. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:11 This is a team that they have to feel that is beatable for them. They're at home played last night. Points are important. this will be a hot one. Yeah, and they've used Shisterkin and back to backs. That's how desperate it's gotten here. They've really liked John Quick, but it's like, hey, look where we are in the standings. Everything, we've got to go our best guy.
Starting point is 01:12:30 What do you expect the flames to do in that? I haven't seen anything online since we started the show. I haven't checked. But they're not going to skate today. They probably held a team availability. They likely wouldn't want to divulge their starter if they didn't have to. Are you expecting a dambled our start or a Dustin Wolf? Because he really wasn't the problem last night, but then he
Starting point is 01:12:47 did get credited for five against. Yeah, he did get. I'm kind of inclined to say Wolf, but you know what? What also doesn't help is Vladarlet's in that first shotty faces. Yeah. It's like you want to have confidence in the guy. I don't know. It's a good question.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Yeah. But I'm kind of with you. I would lean Wolf, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it's Pledar, but when pushes come to shove and they really need a game, they've gone to Wolf a ton. We'll see. Yeah. Fliddard only faced three shots and the third one went in.
Starting point is 01:13:19 That's, you know, he's ready. I don't know. And I don't know. The more you keep going with the wolf, the longer it's been since he last played and the doubt creeps in. Other curious thing to see will be where Connor Zeri slides into this lineup. Does he go play the Backland slot and you reunite the Fairby Coleman backland line with just, you know,
Starting point is 01:13:40 obviously Zeri being backland or do you keep Frost in that second line? I don't know. We'll see. Zeri could play wing or center, but honestly get Igor back to the wing it'd be my preference. Yeah, I would think whatever you can, whatever it's just,
Starting point is 01:13:53 it feels like it's a lost season for Igor and we kind of, I kind of ripped on them there, but it just, it's got to be hard. I've said this before when you just put yourself in the coach's shoes behind the bench, you're just so desperate for offense. And you've got a guy who can shoot it as well as just about anybody and who has scored 30 for you last year.
Starting point is 01:14:13 And you keep rolling them out and rolling them out. and it just doesn't feel like there's a lot there. It's like, help me, man. Help me help you. You score. It's great for you. It's great for me. It's great for all of us.
Starting point is 01:14:25 But I can't score for you. All I can do is put you out there a bunch and on the power play. And that's, I'm doing my part. If you could come through, that would be great, but it is not happening. Pike makes a great point, too.
Starting point is 01:14:36 There's no second skill. No. He doesn't hit. He's not great defensively. And there's a bunch of guys that are like that. If you're not scoring, what are you doing? but they're really good at that one thing.
Starting point is 01:14:48 So you look past a lot of other shortcomings. And then when the one thing you do well goes away, frustrating. Yeah. Okay, let's keep moving. OV's chase continues tonight for the all-time goals record. He is now eight away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's record. They're doing some great work.
Starting point is 01:15:05 This is from the Washington Capitals website. I don't know if we can make this bigger or not, but this is his history against the Detroit Red Wings. 25 goals and 40 points in 37 games against the wings. It also shows how he's done against Morazic and Talbot. He had a hatrick famously, I think when he passed Gordy Howell against Morazic. So a lot of interesting notes regarding Ovi eight to go. Let's get it done this year.
Starting point is 01:15:32 I don't want to have to wait all summer for next year. Let's get it done. It would be awesome. And then they can just move right along with the playoffs and not have any distractions. Here it is. On December 31st, 2021, New Year's Eve in Detroit. Ovechkin scored his 275th power play goal to pass Dave Anwar check for the most in NHL history.
Starting point is 01:15:52 All right. So he likes to play in Detroit. It feels like it's happening, right? Eight just does not feel like a lot anymore. It was double digits and high. It's, ah, will he hit it? Will it be this season? They got 20 some games left or maybe just under 20.
Starting point is 01:16:08 I'm not, I think. He's been really steady. I'll say that. Like he's kind of been clipping it a half goal of game all year. And that's kind of what he's going to have to do. Yeah, I'm trying to find Washington here. 15 games. 15 games left for eight goals.
Starting point is 01:16:23 So he's got to be just a hair better than a goal and a half a game. You know what would help? A hatcher. Go do that tonight. Go ahead. Goletti from NHL.com. Go ahead. Nothing.
Starting point is 01:16:34 I'm just kind of. Okay. If you're wondering, Ovi's got 25 goals and 37 games against Detroit. Ovi's got 9 and 16 against Morazek. including 798, 799, and 800. Wow, that's how you get to a milestone number. That was in Chicago against Marazik two december's ago. Marzik also once saved all 15 Ovechkin shots
Starting point is 01:16:56 in a Detroit victory back in 2015. 15 shots in one game for Ovi. This guy's an animal. Hoo! Still doing it. Yeah. Jack and I were just asking, like, you know, We're not a huge bureaucratic company.
Starting point is 01:17:13 So if Jack and I are filing for a work trip. Grievance? Who do we talk to about our petty cash expenses, day money? Because we just, we got this video made. We wanted to pitch you on it. Oh, okay, sure. Yeah, boomocracy, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:31 We'll see. It's great. Obviously, we have a lot of fans back home in Sweden, a lot of young kids who start playing hockey because of the NHL. You know, I wish I had that chance when I was a kid growing up playing hockey. so you know I think it's a great thing that the NHL does right now. I remember just being really excited for the opportunity to play in Europe and a great hockey city like Stockholm.
Starting point is 01:17:50 The fans were super excited for us to be there and as players to experience something like that at a young age. It was a lot of fun and we had some time there so that was cool just to see different things and it's something that always goes over well so it should be a great experience. Passing across Crosby! He scores! He's a lot. My grandma, she's 90 years old just for her to see me play. It'll be a lot of fun.
Starting point is 01:18:16 Penguins, Predators, Sweden, Stockholm. That's very fond of the Swedish build. Jack's a Penguins fan. Right. Yeah. I like the color yellow personally. Two teams that don't it.
Starting point is 01:18:33 You can man home base. We'll be in Sweden in November. Deal? Boy, November's not a good month. Probably going to need you around. really yeah what if i show you this graphic um you know what just look at sid's face yeah that's the likelihood so sid what do you think or or even or you know what even old philip
Starting point is 01:19:04 there yeah it feels like really i don't think you're going to sweden bud you if you're serious i what good duster though it's good you know what it's it's really something it's all it's it's kind of bordering creepy with the yeah you know the twisters in there it's taken on a life of its own for sure tis uh jack sorry about the news he was really sorry jack i'm i'm going and i got that i got the steelers game in dublin as well so that's right i brought in ireland as well
Starting point is 01:19:33 get your passport ready i guess yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah uh okay that's enough sweden stuff tonight's i've been to stockholm really tell me a story uh it was late 90s, there was a kind of a beer league trip. We're going to go to Sweden and Finland and play, I forget if it was three or four games. We're going to go to, we took a boat, like a big kind of a cruise ship overnight.
Starting point is 01:20:04 I'm from wherever it was. I guess Helsinki to Stockholm or we were in Tampa, day the game in Tampa Day, at a rink that's like underground. All that's above ground is a, kind of a it's the elevator shaft kind of deal. So about three or four guys at a time could get into the elevator with their hockey bags. You go down, come back up.
Starting point is 01:20:23 The Zamboni is electric for underground. You're just kind of a hollowed out. It's hollowed out rock. So we played there. We played in the rink. They have the big, the globe in Stockholm. There's a smaller rink that's attached to it, like the practice rink.
Starting point is 01:20:37 We played there. And I don't mind telling you, hell of a good time. Yeah. Yeah. Good people. People like the people. It'd be great if you guys could go, but. Because you'd have a great time. You'd love it.
Starting point is 01:20:50 It's disappointing. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry, fellas. I was in Malmo a couple of Septembers ago. Malmo. Malmo. Malmo. Yeah. Good people. Swedes. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:02 Better than us. Again, common thread on this show. Tonight's games. Let's get to it. Okay. So Senators, Habs is a huge one. Montreal, we told you two games and had two points back of the Rangers. they're going to be going hard. Ottawa, they're trying to get real in top three, maybe even home ice in the Atlantic division. They've been on such a nice heater.
Starting point is 01:21:21 Flames Rangers, we've talked about, Islanders, Penguinos. Let's make this a three-point game, Jack. Is that all right? Just so we can help the flames in their quest to get into the top 10? Sure, Ryan. Wings trying to remain in the hunt out east. Blues, one of three games in the next six against the predators.
Starting point is 01:21:43 Blues of the easiest schedule of the four teams vying for the final wildcard in the West. We'll see if they can get business taking care of tonight. Dallas, they're on a collision course of Colorado. I don't know what you do for the next month. Toil your thumbs, whatever. You got Anaheim tonight visiting you. Chicago, Seattle, pass.
Starting point is 01:21:58 Utah, desperate need of points to try to get into a wildcard. They'll visit Edmonton and the nightcap. The Jets could do the flames of solid. They are playing Vancouver in Vancouver. Pretty good slate. Per good. Per good. So every team in the West,
Starting point is 01:22:18 if you can look in action, flames, blues, Utahans, and Canucks. So the playoff standings we showed you today, going to be different tomorrow on all fronts. Okay, Major League Baseball.
Starting point is 01:22:33 We told you about opening day next Thursday. That's a lie. Opening day was this morning. And his second hit of the ball. game. This one goes to the wall. Otani's doubling in the top of the ninth. He finished two for five
Starting point is 01:22:54 as the Dodgers won four, one over the Cubbies. It's the first ever MLB opening game with two Japanese starting pitchers. And of course, they're doing it in Tokyo, where it has apparently been superb atmosphere. They start the regular season here, then return to North America and jump
Starting point is 01:23:10 in when everyone else gets going next Thursday. So a happy official opening day to you, Dean. And to you. Already in first place. Yeah, I was going to say there's, uh, it's heartwarming to see the Dodgers doing well. So that's good. The plucky underdog that, uh, well,
Starting point is 01:23:28 like the team you cheer for, just outspending everyone in their prime. Not sure that's accurate. But you said, for the Yankees, yeah. Long, not, not for a long time. That is true. Uh, I saw this giant anaconda and I thought, I've got to show this to boom. This is in Brazil. And you're going to say, Now, where is the snake?
Starting point is 01:23:52 Where is this? Oh, my God, there it is. Is that two of them stacked on top of each other? No, it's probably about the length of two city buses, though. That is a huge thing. Oh, sorry, Jardim. Brazil, off the list. You're passing that by.
Starting point is 01:24:11 Hey, buddy, quick stop and Jardim. I'll stay on the bus. Pass, thank you. How do you do on flights? Can you sleep well on flights or no. Oh, man. Just, yeah. No, no, I don't.
Starting point is 01:24:24 Yes, I do. Yeah. Okay. Why are you showing this? This guy's sleeping. Have a look. What a game, eh. Boys, you're just dying.
Starting point is 01:24:37 How many chips do you think you could get in? That's some cringles. Yeah. That's good stuff. Yes. Yeah. You know what? I don't,
Starting point is 01:24:47 I don't have a problem with that, actually. Good. I feel like that's some sort of awareness. You got to have, even if you're totally gassed. You take like a chin strap or something to hold your jibs together. That's no good. You know that guy's a loud snore. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:05 Saw and logs of this mouth open. No good. Now, that's good fun. This is not good fun. This is when a cruise ship goes through a tsunami or tidal wave. All right. No big deal. This is the size of, oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:25:23 That's not good. Wow. And look at dude up top. He's like, did I get some water sprayed on my no my cargo pans. This is silk. This is not very good. Oh, my goodness gracious. It's a lot of water. That's a lot of water. Don't they have technology to see like this coming? Why is there so many people? They really should, Jack. Yeah. Drunk driving.
Starting point is 01:25:46 I mean, that's like you look at that right there. Is everything like like when all the water comes up there? there's going to be some people missing. I'm thinking. Where's all that water going? Yeah. I think they're designed to have a go places, but for that much water, it's going to take some time to drain. And is that the right angle to take that wave back to Jack's point? It feels like you want to take that head on, or is that the 45 degree angle that they're coaching people to take? I don't know. Come on, Jack.
Starting point is 01:26:16 Cruz. You can strike that off your list. Well, I did one last year, whatever it was. No tsunamis? I had already struck. Never again. done one and done uh kids boys specifically very very dumb this is something our boys would do i think grabbing on to the back of 270 on a freeway and look there's a kid in the middle he's just hanging off the license plate there what if your arms get tired they're going to get tired but you're
Starting point is 01:26:51 going to die if you let go geez getting the speed wall You're cooked for four or five hundred kilometers here until this guy needs to take a piss. You're done. Or what if a baby deer jumps in front of the semi truck and he's got to put on the binders? Yeah, no? Stupid. Jack and his buddies went out. Look at this kid.
Starting point is 01:27:16 He's love it. He's like, we might not live. I'm dying soon. Jack and RJ, I think they left the watch party a little early last night. Yeah, they did. You're trying to spend some BS. but oh yeah we're going to go home totally went out and look they went to their buddies a guitar player they went and watched them play irish music live isn't this great
Starting point is 01:27:36 beautiful stuff oh a shoe came off there i'll be on my way sorry friends yeah maybe don't be on the roof now have you ever been to this place to madison no it's like a massive old mansion with like 20 rooms but it's all a pub and it's a notorious you've T hangout. Spent many nights in my 20s there. Not falling through roofs though. Yeah. It's not an ideal. Because it is just like some plastic kind of sheeting.
Starting point is 01:28:19 What were you doing up there? Because again, stupid. Very dumb. That's your Pinder report on a Tuesday, Dean. There you go. It's the Pinder report for Village Honda. Complementary. Get the appraisal done in your vehicle. Million dollars has
Starting point is 01:28:36 been committed to buying pre- vehicles by Village Honda. I'd take them up on it, if I were you? You can begin the appraisal process online at VillageHonda.com. Your dealership for life. For life? For life.
Starting point is 01:28:51 Now you have a little something there. It's either to your right or your left. Yes, I do. Yeah, I think so. Hearingloss.com. Great friends of ours, great partners. Travis and Sabrina, they do a lot to give back to the
Starting point is 01:29:06 community. And they're in all these communities. In BC, they've got five locations. In Calgary, they've got five locations. They're doing giveaways and they make donations and they do all kinds of things. And they happen to know what they're talking about when it comes to hearing and hearing loss and making you hear better, that sort of thing. And just for just for some positive vibes, we are going to have a nice little giveaway. This has been donated by the hearing loss clinic.
Starting point is 01:29:39 Let's see what we got. So we have two packages? Because it looks like we've got a matching There's going to be two. Yeah. So we're going to do one at a time. So let's, the first one, we'll do it for say a week.
Starting point is 01:29:51 A little bit of, a little bit of, you know, a little bit of wine and Erasmus Anderson, Jersey. We assume it's Rasmus. Maybe it's Glenn Anderson. They've spelled his last name. Oh, you can't show the, you can't do that.
Starting point is 01:30:08 Remember you silly goose? Silly goose. So there's, You go. An authentic Anderson jersey and a bottle of wine will be. Can't do that. Yeah, I don't know if we can do that either, but you know what? It's the internet.
Starting point is 01:30:24 So what we're going to do is we're going to put on our socials, our X account, our Instagram account, and you'll be able to go in there. You're going to have to do some following. You're going to be following the hearing loss clinic. You're going to need to tag, do all that sort of fun stuff in there. And then we will pick one of you and make you big winner. That was a great jersey matchup last night. I think you would set it right from the start.
Starting point is 01:30:48 Right away. Those green ones popped and then the flames really, really bright red. Awesome to admit it. Yeah, hate to admit it. But the, uh, the St. Pat's jerseys, I like that. Looks good. So, uh, so what you'll need to, Jack, what would be the best in the YouTube description?
Starting point is 01:31:05 Or what, what do you want to again? Because we don't have a website. We should really get a website. It'd be so great. What do you want to do? I'll make the post on the Instagram and then I'll, I'll put the link in the description of the show. There you go.
Starting point is 01:31:18 Like that. All in all of, I was like, can you repeat all that? All the information as to how to enter and how to win will be put in those posts on Instagram. And that'll be up later today. And we'll run it throughout the,
Starting point is 01:31:31 the course of the week. And then we got another one. So about that. Thank you hearing loss clinic. Yeah. Which, by the way, hey, probably time to boot. an assessment, get yourself in there.
Starting point is 01:31:41 How's my hearing? I get my eyes checked. I go to the dentist all the time. Why wouldn't you put a little hearing assessment into your regular wellness routine? Should do it. Hearing loss.c.a. We'll do a little bit of our, so, so the, I had said the, I'm going to go in here and take a looky, a little looksie at the 365 app, Beth 365.
Starting point is 01:32:08 Breaking news. coming in from Bet365, where every nail-biting overtime win as a barn burner, every face-off, hat trick, power play, shot on goal, pedally shot, and every suspenseful minute in between is amazing. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365, an official partner of the NHL, download the Bet365 app today. Do it! And use the code Nation to get into the game.
Starting point is 01:32:32 Must be 19 or older. Please play responsibly. Flames and Rangers, I'm going to go player. I'm going to go anytime goal. Let's see what we got here. Matt Coronado. Matt Coronado.
Starting point is 01:32:47 Anytime plus 350. Oh, I'm tailing you hard. And if you want to do a little big game, you could say he's going to be your first plus 2,000. Wow. That's not nothing. It's just begging you to put a little down. It's just begging you, you may as well get in.
Starting point is 01:33:05 I'll play some Coronado. That sounds fun. Because be responsible, right? We're not being crazy. It's just, hey, we're having some fun here. Be irresponsible. No, I need a ruling while we're on the Coronado topic. Jack and the youths, they're all horrible spellers because they've just, you know,
Starting point is 01:33:18 they have auto correct on their phone and they say, yeah, I'll just click this button. It'll spell things right. You never have to learn out of spell anymore. They're, there, there. He's confused by the rule. Yeah, right. Yeah. He calls Coronado corn, that a pass or fail for a nickname.
Starting point is 01:33:36 Because it's not Cornado. It's not really a nickname, though. It's just, I can't spell it. So it's just corn. See, that's the thing. I'm okay with the nickname because if you call him corny, it's like, you know, corny. Sure.
Starting point is 01:33:49 Yeah, Coronado. But because Jack doesn't know how to spell his name and thinks it's Coronado, corn. Then I can't, then it's harder to let, let slip. Okay. We'll have to go to further review on that. Well, you know, what's conclusive or not. It's like back, there used to be a vehicle called an old,
Starting point is 01:34:05 I think it was the Oldsmobile Coronado. C-O-R-O. Like, have the Coronado. It's not a corn-corna-o. Sound like a Coronado. Coronado. You know. Renato of Corona.
Starting point is 01:34:19 So, yeah. So because of Jack's stupidity, I'm with you. Okay. My bets, I'm jumping on some puck lines tonight. I love the Jets at home to spank a Canucks team. Everything has been difficult. Parkline, park line. Yeah. It's a park line.
Starting point is 01:34:34 Also going to do that with the senators who are rolling. Red hot. Yes, it's a motivated. Habs team, but the Sends are beating everyone these days. They've looked great. Brady Kachuk is a man possessed since the four seasons. Stay hot, Sends, stay hot. Yeah. Was it six in a row? I believe for them.
Starting point is 01:34:53 Six or seven, seven, two and one in their last ten. Six in a row and they're just cruising. You like six? The Habs, also strong. Also seven, one and two in their last ten. It's a big. It's good. I need an empty netter on that to secure that for me, but I'm playing the puck line. Yeah, wow.
Starting point is 01:35:15 That is pretty good. Yeah. Beat the Blackhawks, beat the Rangers, beat the wings, beat the flyers, beat the Bruins and beat the Leafs in Toronto sends feeling good. Nice. There you go. Bet 365. Get the thing on your app. Get into it.
Starting point is 01:35:29 promo code nation when you sign up if you haven't already. And if you're, if you're one of those people, I don't really know. You're not Jack. You can figure it out. Hmm. It's a heartfelt, unnecessary. This is the one here. David jumping in.
Starting point is 01:35:46 Hey, Jack isn't stupid. All right. Interesting point of view. Thanks, David. That's somebody's, yeah. Somebody's thoughts for sure. Well, yeah, I guess we can do the, give one of these, yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:03 It's the super chat. Proceeds from our super chat. Go to the youth centers of Calgary. All you need to do is get into the chat during the live part of the program. we take the money, we get it to the youth centers, and then we put your comment on the show. Safegis is from Scott. Scott Kerr says,
Starting point is 01:36:22 safe to say Monty trade top five worst in team history. Well, I'm not there yet. It's got a very good chance of being a top five worst trade in franchise history. But again, there is still a probability of Flames finish in the bottom 10, and you would send Florida's pick, which might be picked 29 or 30, which is an easy swing and miss range. It would be nothing. for Monahan potentially, but it is tracking to be a disaster, yes.
Starting point is 01:36:47 Because you traded Monaghan with a year left. And a first round pick. So it basically cost you a first round pick for Sean just to leave. Yeah, and Sean has had some serious injury woes that led to that. And then the following season, he was dinged up halfway through and never came back. They resigned him. He had a healthy year last year. I traded to Winnipeg at the deadline and then again this year, another major injury.
Starting point is 01:37:15 It's been really tough. It's got a chance to be. Yeah, it's not great. No. It's not great. So it's got a chance. Let's say this for Montreal, pretty good trade. Yeah, it's going to hard.
Starting point is 01:37:30 Because then they took Monaghan the next year. Yeah. Him to know it first. Winnipeg. That really is a master class. That's some Kent Hughes master class right there. Boy, that's what you wanted when people kind of. can play what's conroy get he got to be if you have the cap space we'll take your player and a pick
Starting point is 01:37:50 how the player's got another year but it's not like what was the worst thing that was going to happen with sean is that he won't play for you everybody loves monahan he's a great guy quality guy and then he did play for you and you then got to add another asset two firsts yeah that's decent just to rent sean monahan you got paid two first Yeah. And yeah, I do think like it was a weird year because the cap all of a sudden is growing like crazy. And a lot of teams had injuries which opened LTIR space. But it feels like a missed opportunity for the flames.
Starting point is 01:38:26 That 20 million bucks in cap space or whatever it is, you don't get to keep that next year. Wasted opportunity. You didn't in the Pinda report do the bottom 10 deal today. That was yesterday. Not today. It's three points still. It's the Islanders and 10th from the bottom. Four point are coming up Saturday afternoon.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Right. it's a lot of games left. It's a lot of games left and look, we talk about it all the time. The games are way harder this time of year, time of year when you're playing teams that are headed to the playoffs or believe they're heading into the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:39:03 Go watch the first five games of the year and measure what those flames wins would look like today. Like, they've been into the red on the odometer all year. Like, give them credit. it. There's not been many nights. They're like, yeah, they just didn't work hard. A lot of other teams have a lot of those.
Starting point is 01:39:21 They don't have them right now. So it's an early game, which means early edition of AfterBerner, our post game show, after every Flames game, home or away on our YouTube channel. We go with a live post game show called Afterburner, the
Starting point is 01:39:37 hosts and the all rotates and tonight, it's a Pender program. Pender Afterburner. I believe Mike is going to be working with me as well. So here we go. Buckle up. Well, second game in as many nights.
Starting point is 01:39:52 If it looks anything like last night, you might need one of those NASCAR helmets for the show. You two are going to be bickering at each other. Potentially. Yeah. It is funny that when you encounter someone who is of some similar ilk, and you're like, I'm not sure I dig this guy. This guy.
Starting point is 01:40:15 This guy drives me crazy. I like Mike Lotz. He was having way too much from pronouncing Russian last names on trade deadline. I don't need this. There you go. That's a lot. Yeah, somebody,
Starting point is 01:40:28 Rhett, we believe is off this week. He's got some, I mean, he's allowed, right? Yeah. He's a lot of taking a little time.
Starting point is 01:40:35 Yeah. So he, for the better part of this week, we think is going to be off. May check in to say hello at some point, but busy, busy week as he is out east with one of his voice. Believe we'll have noodles tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:40:48 He is, of course, with the senators to kind of track their travel. Seven in a row. Buckline win. Yeah. Let's go. So noodles tomorrow. We'll hopefully get Pike back Thursday, drags on Friday, some games. It's a busy barn burner week for sure.
Starting point is 01:41:06 Love it. Yeah. But for now. See you, buddies.
