Yeah. No, there's some, there's some talent in there. But I, I just now, I get. frustrated where it's like, okay, every movie has to have a certain look or a certain feel

or a certain theme behind it. I just want to sit and lose my mind for two hours and forget about life. I don't need any underlying messages or, you know, how many matinee movies have you been to in your life? Oh, my God. Thousands. Yeah, we used to think. Thousandss because even, I mean, my first 10 years at TSN when we're going into studio,

there's a movie theater across the street. So if I'm doing overdrive at 4 o'clock, I'd go to a 130 movie, 130 to 330, go over to the studio. So I would go, and there was times where I booked the movie around the time that it started. They're like, yeah, this is going to be a crappy movie and I'm only going to watch 90 minutes of it,

but there's popcorn there. And I leave halfway through and I go, they're like, how's the movie? I'm like, I don't know, I don't know how it ended, but it was all right. I've done that hundreds of times. Just Kurt. Everyone was that ass hat, Monty,

We had the cards to go to the movie theater. We'd go with, we go to call me and call me. You get the pop card. We'll pay for the tickets. But it just, I like I've always felt that the movies, now the traditional movie, everybody watches movies on their phone, including me. So it's, you know, I feel like it's still, we do this. I don't know if you guys have ever done it.

Like we do it with the kids in the summer. We do a drive-in. We go to the drive-in and do a double-hand. and do a doubleheader. I think it's a night as a family type of thing. But I take my son to movies on the weekend. Like he doesn't mind it. He loves to a movie,

but the only issue is that they're not as good as everyone says it. It's probably because they're producing so many. Every streaming service has a... You're right. It's trying to catch up. I'm more into series now and stuff like that. But in the end, like I do like a movie. I do, like I'll go sit through it.

what is Vancouver's plan? That's the first and foremost, because they're probably trying to sell to the defensemen were competitive because you're not, you know, you're a year away from potentially extending him and deciding him deciding his future in Vancouver. Right?

So these the, what, second best defenseman on the planet, arguably? I think, like I'm, I'm a Macar. Five, maybe number one. I'm a McCar guy, but I mean, if Hughes isn't one A or two, then, you know, it's a challenge. But they've got big decisions to make. Like, I, you know, I half-heartedly joke. I did a sports center hit, and I said, could Demko not have been in that deal?

Like, they got three goalies, right? So Sheeloff just won in the H.L. He needs waivers. He's not going to make it through Wills. I think he's a pretty good goaltender that has a chance to be an everyday guy. I don't know if he's a Vladar or better type of thing

because he's a big goaltender, nice butterfly, good skills. We saw it in the playoffs against Edmonton. I thought he handled the moment pretty well at 22, 23 years old. Played his way out of the league this year, though. Like he played his way down to Abbotsford. He was not good. Yeah. No, you're right. You're right. He didn't. But I could also

say that, you know, that team wasn't that team wasn't the team that we saw the year before. So, you know, heronic, like there were guys downed and then he also won a frickin. Yeah, it was great when he was down. But I would say I'll take a chance on a 24-year-old goaltender that has the skill set. Maybe the team could play better in front of him. So they got his side. You've got Demko at 5 million.

You've got Lankin starting a 5-year extent, 4 or 5-year extension at 4.5-year extension at 4.5. something like that. And then you're going to have Shilov. So that's where I start with Vancouver. What are you doing in a net? Because you're going to lose one goaltender if they put him on waivers. And are you making a decision on Demko extending him? Or are you going to move him?

Because you're not moving Lankan and you just extended him. So it's really Demko or Shilovs. That's the way I look at it. You see you that's coming summer like a year from now. And the hope would be you could get him right and get a King's Ransom for him. Like I understand you probably don't want to give a division arrival a ton of cap space, but what you really don't want is a guy to turn into a top 10 goalie in the league like he was before his injuries in division. That's the big no-no for me.

But he can sign them in a year potentially. It's one more year. Right. But Edmonton doesn't, I don't think you're sitting as Stan Bowman sitting at McDavid's cottage right now going, we're going to wait another year to see if this guy's avail. Like I think, you know, you're selling to him. I'm going to get a goaltender right now. And, you know, I don't know what it looks like, but it's going to be different.

And that's what I keep preaching. And maybe that's the wrong word, but it's got to look different in net there. And I don't think it's somebody to challenge Skinner. I think what you do is you've got a Pickard who makes $8.50 or whatever it is, we'll call it a million. We won 22 games for them last year and was seven and one in the playoffs for them. That's a good number two. I think what you do is you look latterly.

So coming back to Vancouver, they got to do something with their goaltender. And you're right, it is a bit weird that they take Evander Kane and give up a fourth. So they basically got them for free. And does Kane make you a better team? Yes, but there's lots of baggage that comes with that, right? And they're already coming off a very dysfunctional dressing room last year. It should be hypersensitive to the room. There should be no one going in that room.

So the big decisions to be made in Edmonton and I look at it in Calgary, not as much, but I think Raspus Anderson is a massive, like I think he's a massive chip. He's been playing for cheap for what he does for it. So, okay, so then let's separate the two. The money and the term. What's it going to look like for him financially if he goes to UFA status? In a year, I'd say eight and a half. half time seven minimum right so something with an eight at it maybe a great year maybe more you're trade the marketplace so you're putting 60 million that's pretty much no i'm not doing the numbers well 65 what am i seven eight times seven million sixty five to 70 million bucks 60 plus million

You get that mid, you know, mid-20s player that could fit in with the young guys. And that has to be if Anderson, you're going to bring in somebody young. like you know i don't even know what the trade looks like but bow and byron should be a guy who's on the radar like bow and byrne byrne i don't know why age range they should hunt for sure yeah yeah well like the lindholm deal is the template you got a first you got some prospects and picks and you got a roster player that maybe you can flip or keep if it pans out and kuzmiko did both here he was unreal after the trade that

year dog shirt until they traded him and then great again in l. like that's got to be where you start You say, okay, the minimum here is a first to prospect a roster player and let the bidding war begin. Keep adding better roster players and more picks if you want them. Yeah. And we talked about it earlier this week, James. I'm curious your thoughts. What we're hearing from the insiders like Pierre LeBron is they've exchanged their numbers. Here's, you know, here's our ballpark.

And here's like, ooh, that's tens of millions apart on a seven, eight year kind of a term. So we're going to, we're going to make a trade. you've made it clear that you're probably ready to move on. We're probably, when do you want this deal done? Because a lot of times it's, hey, we're fine bringing him into the season. He's got a contract. He's a sign player.

I feel like this is a situation where I'm not doing that if I'm Craig Conroy, but what are your thoughts on that? The only reason I think you could probably have peak, potentially a peak return right now is because I think the UFA class is weaker. So you're looking to a lot of managers and in people I talk to are saying you might see a more proactive trade market than you do UFA. You're not spending like managers aren't just going to spend money for the sake of hey, we got extra. We got cap space so we better do this. Because why would you waste money and that's the wrong term? Why would you spend money on a player

that's just okay for your program instead of if you, you know, if you covet somebody, go get them. instead of going, hey, you know what, we need a second line center, P.S. suitors out there. He's really a three, but we're going to force feed him in two and overpay him in UFC or as a UFA. It doesn't make sense. So what I'm hearing, again, I'm sure you guys hear the same thing and we see it on, you know, X and all of that is managers, like there's a lot of chatter going on.

Now, I say it every year. Maybe I'm hoping it's just wishful thinking. I feel like all hell's going to break loose here. and in a good way where it's like we're going to see a lot of musical chairs. We're going to see a lot of teams. And I'm going to pose this to you three, though. Is there one team that is waving the white flag going, we're rebuilding? Like Chicago.

Exactly. Pittsburgh. And who? Chicago is still part of that? Chicago is, okay, Chicago, yes, is bottomed out, but they're trying to get better. So they're not coming down. They're starting to build. You're right.

There's one team that I think has probably been given the green light to start to move some players out. It seems like Pittsburgh is the team. But you got Sidney Crosby there. And what does Sid want to do? You got Gino and Lattang and Carlson and Term and no move clauses and all that clauses. So you're going to have to be creative. But that's a team that I would circle and go like if I'm, you know, Ebenton asked me, like, who would you want?

well, Brian Rust, like you look at a guy that maybe you could play with dryside. So I look at, I guess the reason why I bring them into the mix is all these teams are probably selling to their owners like, we're going to get better. So where are these players coming from? But where is the improvement if it is, you know, quote unquote, a little bit of a weaker UFC class? Yeah. How do you steal from the talent pool that's out there?

There's only a certain amount of talent. So is there a team that goes, you know, we don't think we're going to have it this year. So we'll wait another year. Like I'll give it. I think Montreal could be a very interesting case study. Because what they need is experience internal growth from some of those young players continue to. They made the playoffs last year. And they're a good team.

And that Hudson's a star, I think. And that Demadoff has a chance to be really good. Slavkovsky is starting to use his size. we saw Suzuki and Caulfield turn a corner. But they're still young. So do they have the luxury of waiting another year and maybe plucking some players from teams that either get desperate or that need to move money or need to, you know,

if they move carry prices contracts somehow, they'll have a ton more flexibility as well. So like that's an interesting team that I look at because I think Montreal is a really up-and-coming team. but do they believe they're a cup contender next year or they did believe that hey we made the playoffs our next goal is to try to win a round or two like to get to that next level internally so are you looking at the pitts and going can we add are you looking at a team that is pressed pressed up against the cap and go okay well i'll take that contract but i want that 22 year old that is playing in your minor league team that we think's going to be a really good player or or maybe a live player at 27 28 So there's only a few teams around the league that kind of might have that mentality. Everybody else is either selling to their manager or their owner. We're going to be better this year.

Like, what's Nashville doing? Didn't I read that Roman Yose's like had some sort of a rare condition, right? Does that mean he's not playing? Does he not, you know, like it's concerning, right? After Barry Trots is, you know, he swung for the fences last year, is he going to double down or is he going to try and move some assets out? Right? What you're describing is the perfect market to sell an asset in.

Exactly. Everyone wants to be a buyer minus a few very small examples. And that, to me, screams trade Anderson before the calendar turns to August. That was my long-winded answer to Craig Conroy is sitting with some pretty impressive chips in his, or cards in his hand. Because, yes, Nazim Kadri, term on his deal. Pretty coveted guy, though. like I think there's a lot of teams that would be looking at it. I see if you'll do the cap space thing.

Totally. Eat half. Let's go. So that's my point is like you're, I think Calgary could be sitting there looking, looking pretty good. If Connie wants to be patient, if Connie wants to ask for a king's ransom for some of these players on his roster.

And then we've got internal growth for some of the guys that you just laid out, the Zaris, And is there a defenseman that you feel like is? Correct is that kid. Greg will make the same this year. He's going to. So what about that mutant right shot there? Clapka.

He'll be, yeah, they just signed him. He's two years at one and a quarter. I saw that, but I like him. I like him. Like I think he's got a chance to push up to a top six roll. If he wants to get a little like consistently meaner,

he's a good skater, a big guy. like. So I think Calgary could be in a very unique position at the draft here, when teams are very desperate to build their team. I don't think you'll see a lot of teams. They might be forced by this to start the season, but maybe not the end product they want, going, okay, we're going to keep our cap space and see who becomes, who by Thanksgiving, U.S. Thanksgiving is going to drop out and be sellers. So you're going to start the season with a team that maybe you feel is 80% complete. And then you go, yeah, let's see if this guy and this guy can play.

And then you go, that can't play, but we're going to use our $8 million in Capspace to go get player X from that team that didn't. It's not going to make the playoffs. Okay. And that's probably every summer that's similar, right, with different UFAs and different RFAs. That can all be different to a certain extent. Right. What are the flames? Like it all goes back to you for me.

What are the flames? I know what my opinion is. Okay. So my thought process, the flames are a lot like the Montreal Canadians then. Then you can be patient and you can look at internal growth. But you know, Montreal has veteran guys on their roster as well. I don't know how coveted the Gallagher's are and the Josh Anderson's are and guys like that. But that we were just talking about the cadres, Coleman's, you know, backlins, guys like that.

that are older, still a little bit of term left. Montreal made the playoffs. They were kind of the same, when you look at it, the points and all of that, like they were right there. It just they were in a different conference. I think Calgary has the luxury of some time here to just let these guys play and let the offers come in. And you could deal with the, it gets back to the first conversation.

You got to deal with the Rasmus Anderson situation. That's your biggest chip. Yeah, I agree. and on the flip side, we hear it all the time. Especially, and it's like you say, this is every year. There's a player who's got one year left and no, it's going to be traded. Yeah. If I'm another GM and I'm looking to buy, I may as well get 82 games of this player rather than 20 or 25.

And then in addition to that, well, do you have a wife? Yeah, you got a kid. Oh, so you're going to leave them behind mid year. And it took about 8, 10, 12 games and he finally started, fuck that. Get your wife. Get your kid. move down here. Let's get you set up. What can we do to make you comfortable? Come to camp,

be healthy. We control all of that and let's start the year. I just, sometimes they work out the deadline deals, but in this, I just think for the player, the buying team, and for the flames, it just makes so much sense to get it done. What you just said, only increases

a chance of that player extending. He's at one year left. You bring a guy in for a year. He gets to know the community. Like, Miko Raton was asked to make a decision on Carolina. You might have spent less than 20 days there because he was at four nations there on the road a ton like yeah if you're totally you could be totally sold that you're not staying but yeah it gives you more of uh you're nice you just have to figure them out yeah yeah you're right the longer they stay

you're longer they get to know the city they decide if they want to make that their long-term home or they're ready to move on like it it happens and and like we've talked about a couple weeks ago the players are packages now it's the you know the wife the you know the parents Like they all have a say in it where I felt like maybe I was wrong just because I was single most of my career. I felt like in my generation, red, our generation, that didn't factor in as much. I think people were just like, we're going because we got to play here. We're going there. Like it just nowadays players are more choosing their destination.

That's meant you had to keep her because she wasn't complaining that you were gone. Well, maybe. Yeah, I just, it's just different. put it that way. But I think you look at it. My question now is, habitually, do you get more of the deadline or do you get more of the draft? Like that's the, I don't know. Here's a, like, do we know what the flames were offered for Jacob Markstrom at the deadline as opposed to what they got for him? Exactly. And then Mark is different every year. Last year, guys got halls at the deadline.

And of course, the year the flames got all those sales two years ago. It was like, yeah, the returns were a little like this. So you just, you don't know. And if you're Connie, you forget the market. Set the price. What is fair and what do you think you can get? If someone hits that, pull the trigger. Yeah. That's a great point. And that's what I was getting at where it's like, he wants this much money. Yeah, you don't want to pay them. But if you're not getting what you need in a trade, pay them. Who cares? Well, I think it comes down again, Rasmus controls his own destiny. here. So he decides if he wants to stay or move. But if he indicates that he's not going to sign a

long-term deal, he opens the door to Connie to go, go find me that move, you know, and get what you need out of it. And so then that's the case where Connie sets his price. And if he gets it at the draft, or he gets it tomorrow, or he gets it, you know, July 3rd, then so be it. The one thing that I don't think we can deny is you could argue Connie might have the number one player that chip in the league really I don't know who else to you know who whose teams is available unless you know dubus sends out a note saying Sydney has decided that he's going to you know accept to trade it'll probably be to like one or two places so it's not even a marketplace it's just like get the deal done with that team type of thing you know if hey I'm going to go play with

with McKinnon. Okay, get that deal done. What does that look like? I want to go to Montreal. That was my favorite team growing up. Okay, what does that look like? There's no, hey, let's see what San Jose is going to offer type of thing. Like it just, there's, so I didn't, I think I shot down my own argument.

I still think that Rasmus might be the biggest trade chip if they decide to trade him. He's the guy that you, like there's lots of young guys that might be available. Like we hear Peturca. we hear by one it's an interesting one tyru's name just popped up in the last 24 hours from frank but like those guys often get talked about and they just stay where they are because they're in their young 20s and it's like yeah we can't find an equal values

I think it's easy to find a market guys like rasps get traded every year they've one year left they're veteran guys you know what they are in this league it's not hard to figure out what you have to pay to get them what is j j j per turka he's not a driver 23 is a left winger that's flirted with 30 goals back to back years riding on sustainable shooting percentages. So there you go. So I mean...

On a bad team. On a bad team. But would he be a good support player, a top six winger? Yeah. Played with a skilled centerman. Yeah. But what is Buffalo want? Like, they apparently are hard to deal with because they don't even know what they want, apparently.

Yeah. They don't even more first rounders. They've had a billion of them the last 15 years. They don't know what the fuck they're doing. Do you understand that? Right? It might be the best sound clip of the year. It's an early favorite.

It goes back to what you started with. There's a talent pool out there. And who's going to be able to pull or take a swing and get, like, even if you, that's my opinion of Paturka. But I mean, you're not, I wouldn't disagree. I've watched, I did a bunch of Buffalo games this year. I've watched him live, like a talented guy. I think, but I think Buffalo,

like I've said and maintained, they got a bunch of good players. They just don't, I don't know if they put it together as a team. Like I would be calling Buffalo on talk. I'd be calling Buffalo on Tage Thompson. Everyone.
