Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - The Carolina Hurricanes Are BREAKING The Montreal Canadiens ☠️ | BB Clips
Episode Date: May 26, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett discuss the Carolina Hurricanes taking a 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens and whether this series is already slipping away from the Habs. Even though the score loo...ked close, the guys point out how one-sided the game actually felt, with Montreal managing just 13 shots on goal after another rough offensive performance the game before. The conversation turns to whether the Canadiens have any real answers for Carolina’s relentless structure and pressure, or if the Hurricanes are simply on another level right now and already feel destined for the Stanley Cup Final.Video Link: https://youtu.be/yR93PA8rj5w#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #montrealcanadiens CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. watching the game last night text comes through an art group chat oh jack yeah i'm done with
montreal i'm done done boring as hell we thought carolina was boring you know what
Montreal is boring.
Jackie,
open my eyes.
Yeah.
That text made me realize.
He said, what are we doing?
I'm over Montreal.
I watched the game and I wasn't paying attention.
And then I saw at the end there, the amount of shots they had to me.
Yeah.
At one point,
they had the ticker going of how many minutes since the last shot.
Yeah, my kid yelled that out, 24 minutes without a shot.
Well over 20 minutes.
It'll be tough to, you know, win a hockey game.
With averaging what, four shots a period, whatever it was last night.
Well, depending on your shooting percentage.
That is true.
That can't be the game plan.
No.
Mark 10.
And you know what?
We've called the caps boring.
Maybe what they do is make the other teams boring.
Not what I'm not?
Cains.
I would say yes,
except that if you go back,
every series and the habs are the same,
when you go a whole period in game seven of a must win,
Yeah, I don't know if that's
On one hand, if you're the coach
What hope do we have
Hang on for dear life
Okay, then let's hang on for dear life
Because I don't think there's
Do you think though? Because I'm not
When you look at that lineup
Is that a
Let's hang on for dear life and defend
type of lineup? Because in the start, like, I'm, I'm clearly an idiot. I was like, I like watching these guys play. They're giving them. Well, they have looked very good and fun and entertaining and back and forth, especially the Buffalo series where it was a little more open. There was room in the middle of the ice. That was the big conversation point for the Habs and Sabres versus the opponents they played in round one. But I just don't think they can play they want to play against Carolina. Well, I guess it might be both then where it's like, we can't go for it. So yeah, hang on. But they're not designed.
No, they're not those that way. Let's buckle it up tight here, boys.
The good news is, I noticed between last night and this morning, they found an extra shot for Montreal.
Oh, there you go.
So it was last night it was 12.
Okay.
They've got 13 now.
They found a Alex New Hook shot somewhere.
Oh, somebody hit a parlay on that.
They are just jacked.
You're not to bed all pissed off.
Yeah, because there was a, about a 50 footer from Noah Dobson in the third period that was registered as the 12th and final shot.
So it was a 24-minute span between that and the end of the game.
But they found one somewhere.
It might have been in overtime because I didn't see one shot credited to the Habs in overtime
matching their one shot in the full third period.
Yeah.
So if you're going to go, you know, in a tie game in the playoffs in round three,
two shots in, you know, the decisive two periods, third and overtime, can be tough.
And you know why the game's crazy?
They could have won this thing.
Absolutely.
They had a goal disallowed for being offside.
It was offside, barely.
but it was.
Great call.
And then in overtime.
Suzuki,
Suzuki,
35 seconds in,
breakaway,
misses the net,
10,
25 seconds after that,
Matheson,
crossbar,
could have won it.
Yeah.
They were not the better team.
Because as,
as the overtime went on,
and it was,
this is about when Jack chimed in,
it was just icing,
icing,
icing,
pepper, pepper,
pepper, pepper,
icing,
dobbish,
save, save,
icing.
Dod,
It felt inevitable, and in the end, I guess it was.
The referees put their whistles away.
That non-call on the too many men.
I actually blew the effing whistle to stop play to call the penalty
and didn't call the penalty.
Like if the canes somehow lost that game, there's some serious spawning to do.
Yeah.
Because it wasn't even the first call that was like,
eh, that looks like too many.
It was just the most blatant and egregious one where it literally hits the guy in the skate.
and you're like, well, you're busted here.
It's like shooting it over the glass.
Sorry, I don't want to call it, but.
I have to.
Like, it really isn't a judgment call at that point.
It's a massive bleep up.
They're both standing there.
They're both there.
It's clear the one's changing for the other,
and they're both on the ice and the puck hits one.
They blew the whistle.
What are we doing?
They put the face off at center.
Why did you blow the whistle?
Oh, and St. Louise admitting defeat on the bench.
I was like, I'll shoot, that's going to be tough to kill.
Oh, darn.
And meanwhile, Rod, the bod is like,
What are
Fellas.
Remember his face.
What are we doing here?
Yes, that one.
What is happening here?
Because even if
there was a Hudson trip before that
that's, you know, did he, okay,
let him play.
Helped it along a bit.
I'm okay with let him play,
but there is, sir,
I don't even like the puck over the glass
stupid call, but the Buffalo Sabres in
2006 didn't get a chance
to go to the Stanley Cup final because of that.
It's a call.
Yeah.
And if it's a call, it's a non-judgment call, you blew.
You stopped the, they stopped the game for it.
Yeah.
And then decided, ah, we're good.
That's the, you know, like we're on the spot where the day after,
but I bet if you went back to October 7 or whatever the day the season started,
you would not find a more egregious non-call on too many men.
Because sometimes the guy I'll sneak on and they don't see it.
Everyone in the building saw that.
There was no confusion about what.
it happened. Dude, they called the play. They stopped it. They blew the whistle because they were
watching. They go, that's too many men. Yeah. Because if you're watching, if you're watching on,
on TV, it's okay, well, there's St. Louis Holden's head and there's, okay, it's, and then Craig
Simpson's kind of, uh, you can see the referees here, the lines when they're standing together,
no one really wants to make this call. They don't want to be the one to, and then they go back to
the main camera with the scorebug up in the corner and there's no penalty. I'm waiting for
the little Kiron that says power play. I'm going to, let's it.
Where is the two-minute power delay?
Are they going to let that go?
And they did.
They sure did.
They dropped it at center and there was five a side and they, oh, my.
Oh, this is, that's as bad a miss as there's been in the playoffs.
Everyone trying to get halves out win.
It's Gary.
You know, he loves.
Dolbush was trying.
Indefensible?
Yeah.
Yeah, I think it kind of is.
I don't mean, yeah.
It's rude.
It's rude.
Well, it is rude.
if you're at Carolina, you're freaking F out at that point.
If they lose that game, I think so.
It is all we're talking about for the next two days if they somehow lost that game.
And what would the league say?
You can't defend it to your point.
It's indefensible.
A mistake was made.
Yeah, I guess so.
Well, that's millions and millions of dollars.
Thanks for your.
What did they say after the, that Anaheim, Euler puck did it cross the line, not cross the line,
ref wasn't in a position.
Was there any?
No,
but the difference there was they got the call right.
It just,
the process was horrible.
But I just mean,
was there ever any explanation given?
No,
they don't like giving out explanations.
So I don't know if there would have been.
It just would have been,
that was last night's game.
Right.
And then again,
the difference being if it costs you a game.
So it costs the Oilers the game.
No,
but again,
it did cross a line.
Like we,
everyone looked at it and said,
they'd,
I don't know how someone called it in.
Boy,
they're lucky you did go in.
Right.
No,
I,
yeah.
I see what you're saying,
but I just,
it does feel like there is a,
they will never make the referees have to,
or they're,
okay,
because then the toothpaste is out of the tube.
Right now,
it's like,
if we just ride this out,
this controversy,
and we don't let the officials
or we don't make a statement,
people will move on to the next thing.
It's almost like talking about it makes it last longer in the new side.
I'll tell you what it is.
It's exactly same thing as he's,
F,
can I have the thing because I'm going to get wound up here.
You want to do?
do it or whatever politicians they just tell you a story and then you let it go yeah you'll
they'll forget about it but here's the one thing i wanted to say and i had about 18 facial expressions
while you were talking john torturolla got spined a hundred thousand dollars for screwing up
yeah a hundred thousand and the vegas nights lost the second round pick f you n hl you need
accountability you have to have some accountability you can't be the judge of the jury and then not
hold yourselves accountable. That's bullshit.
I agree.
And I don't know what
all these other leagues do, but
I don't think it's crazy to suggest some
leagues would allow
conversations with officials post game
to describe what's going on. Like you said toothpaste
out of thing. I feel like it's, it reminds people
they're humid if they actually have to answer for it.
Oh, I'm not saying they shouldn't.
But I, no, I just mean like, I don't think.
It is very politic-ish.
They could make that change where it's like, after
playoffs game, there will be a scrum with the
lead official. You could do it. Oh, of course
you could. Yeah. But again,
they won't. It's politics.
They will not answer for when
they screw up. That dude
that works down at City Hall, that
water thing forever?
Didn't he get a raise?
Another extension? Like, fuck you.
Yeah, good work on that exploded pipe. Here's another
20. We didn't know anything. It says
here in the fucking report that you did.
Idiot.
Chicken's going to get a workup today.
I hate stupid.
Stupid is no good.
And you know what?
Stupid's fine.
If you go, yeah, on me.
That was stupid.
That was stupid.
My bad.
Be stupid.
Just own it.
Okay.
Well, at least you recognize that you're an idiot.
Stay indoors and don't leave your house ever.
Accountability.
It's hard to find out there.
Thanks for finding that, Jack.
Yeah, I mean, it was.
Jack, let's go.
It hit him in the skate.
And even the players admitted defeat.
They all just kind of slumped down.
And, oh, right.
Anyway.
They blew the whistle.
They blew the whistle.
They saw it.
Too many whistle.
They could call it?
Let's meet up and talk to everyone.
Okay, what did you see?
I saw too many.
What did you see it?
I think there's too many as well.
Yeah, guys, it hit them in the skate.
There was too many.
So are we going to call this?
No.
It's over time.
What's the conversation?
How about it?
Maybe the city police were like, do you know what's going to happen?
Yeah, if you just do this, you call this penalty, they may score on it?
Yeah, breaker, breaker.
So Carolina was not very good in game one.
They've been very good in games two and three.
They have two wins to show for it.
They look like themselves, right?
This, yeah.
Like game one, they did not.
I don't know if you were to build a case for this having a lot of life left this series.
How would you do it?
I'm, well, sadly, I was kind of cheering for much, you.
Now I feel bad for Buffalo because I don't know if they're any effing good.
because I thought they were fun and exciting
and Jack's kind of right where it's like
if you're not even going to get shots for half a game,
this is painful.
And remind me a game seven against Buffalo
because they got the two nothing lead,
but they really didn't create much.
They totally shut it down after that.
Yeah, they closed the mill at two nothing in the first.
Yes, it was anyway.
You can't discredit them for winning.
It's fine, but you watch a period
in a game seven against Tampa Bay,
zero shot.
Okay, well, it was game seven,
So that's the only reason.
If you were going to a regular season game watching that, you'd be appalled.
Shoot it.
And if you paid a thousand bucks to go watch and you'd be appalled.
You'd be like, ooh, yeah, I'm a Habs fan, but this is not good.
And they win and you're like, yay.
And you can't take away from what Carolina's doing.
They're good again.
They've neutered every team they play.
They're 10 and 1 guys and their only loss was the one coming off
an 11-day break where they looked at a source.
That's what I think when I,
not to say Buffalo wouldn't be doing better,
but it does feel a little bit like
either of those teams
would have had their hands full here.
They're healthy, they're good.
They really do.
While they are suffocating,
they're also generating themselves.
It's not like they're just sitting back.
It's dull, boring.
It's not passive at all.
It's, they go get you.
I feel like it's that Sutter, L.A.
style.
Yeah, they finish all the checks.
We're going. We're going. We're going.
Finish checks.
We're going. It's funny because when you talk about a team that defends as well as they have for years and it is really tough to get shot against, you assume it's a team sitting back and trapping.
But this team comes hard with two four checkers all the time.
Yeah, you get no room.
Like they finish every check.
We're watching.
There's a finish check.
There's no one's peeled away.
And when you see this time of year in a seven game series, a star player holding a puck and a guy peel away.
at the last minute, you're like, you're missing a chance to add another nick,
that war of attrition we talk about.
Carolyn doesn't miss those.
Every single chance they have, they finish.
On that two one goal, Jack, not that it's the best example of it,
but they don't play scared, they just go.
If there's a puck, if there's a race, if there's a battle, they're going to go for it.
And it was, it's Kay Andre Miller right here.
I'm just going to go around Josh Anderson for this puck.
Montreal has just scored a minute earlier.
and he just, I'm going for it, even though there's clearly a player between me and the puck
and then Hall has, like, it's just a dump to the corner.
And then Hall is there to get to get three play to get three, it might be.
I think it is.
I've seen a couple teams do it recently to get three cracks at it.
And the tie game was, was gone about.
But they go, go, go.
Like Pinder said, like you're saying, their defense is built on we're giving you no time and space.
the pug's in the offensive zone or the defensive zone,
you get no time and space.
If it's in the neutral zone, guess what you get?
No time in space.
No time.
We're coming at you.
It's a nice pickup,
Coundre Miller.
Like, it hasn't been a long time that Tulski took over for,
I think it's Don Wadell who's now, what, Columbus?
But it's like little ads here and there.
There's in a certain type of way you want to play,
you want a player to play if he's going to play for Rod.
They got 23 of those guys.
Like, it's, there is no superstar.
There is not a, you need that jersey, get it sign, hang it in your basement for 30 years player on this team.
But it's the style of play that wins this time here.
And they become a destination if they win.
They want to know six.
I don't know that it happened after that.
It was a different world.
It was.
It's a friendly tax place.
The climate's lovely.
But for whatever reason, they've had a tough time.
Like, Ranting and looked around and said, yeah, I'm good.
I love it.
You would love it, Dean.
This is right up.
Nicola Eelers, I think is loving it, but he goes only played in Winnipeg Fire.
I could move, too.
If you want to go, let's go.
Is it a good tax situation?
Oh, yeah, Carolina's.
I could use a bit of a, yeah.
It's not a good exchange rate situation.
But once you start making the U.S.
who the hell are you going to work for?
I'll find something.
Oh, kids.
You got getting hired down there.
Bunch of jerks.
This guy could run the socials.
I could do something down there.
No, you can't do nothing down there.
What are you going to do?
Dog walk, change tires?
Tire shots?
Ramps?
Ramps.
times man yeah
