Starting point is 00:00:00 I don't know. I have a lot of, speaking of having money down, a Colorado avalanche right now. With Bet365, you could have done all right. Yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 00:00:13 with bet three six five, we talked about the three-go-early payout. Three in the first period, you'd have been, it's a dub, tickled pink. Yeah. Five unanswered, though.
Starting point is 00:00:27 I left after to get some ice cream because it was an ice cream night last night. Clearly. There's ever an ice cream night. Last night was the temperature. Beautiful. Just gorgeous. So we went for ice cream as a family. Then we stopped by Uncle Cool's house.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Uncle Cool. Self-proclaimed. Isn't that an Abbasan? There was a Daddy Cool. And that loser came out and said, oh, yeah, McKinnon's hurt and it's tied. That loser. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Ruin our knife. He got me. Yeah. Uncle Cool. Wow. No way. Turns out he wasn't full of shoes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:03 He's kind of told the truth. that's a tough turnaround when you think about being up 3-0 and then a period later having both of your superstars at less than 100% and in one yeah the vibes went downhill in a hurry macar back perfect thank god one nothing two nothing three all right there we are we're back baby all right we're good apparently this guy matters and you say it all the time if you're gonna if you're gonna block it
Starting point is 00:01:30 block it or get out of the way maybe get out of the way not sure I said that to block. He should get out of the way. Hmm. It's three nothing. 12.15 or whatever it is of the second period. Old Nate dog. Oh, he got a love.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Off the outside of the cany. Is that fair? Yeah. The right knee, the right extremity. Ryan, if you stand up, we'll show the people. Yeah. What happens? Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Right. Right. Okay. Which area is just, are you going to point to? No, I was going to just whack him right there. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:02:16 okay. Well, it's not too late. If he goes down. You got it'll show. I might earn one. I believe he played four shifts after that. It's a good chunk of it on a power play where he looked like me.
Starting point is 00:02:25 When they showed the close up on the bench, it looked like he was ready to get out there. He was yelling at bed. No. Yeah. Wait, no. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 He was just shaking his head. Or hoax. He was definitely out there a bit. But to your point, it kind of looked more like, you at the Jasper Pond Hockey than Nate McKinnell. Oh, geez. Can you just put it on my tape?
Starting point is 00:02:44 I'll go to the net here trying to shoot it. I can't get there. So we're not, I don't want to play doctor, but like, are we assuming that Nate is just going to be irrelevant and or useless the rest of the way? Or do you,
Starting point is 00:02:55 I feel like it's one of those ones. Maybe it's a boomer's thing. He's great in two nights. I don't like, it's going to be tender. You never know. Can he skate? You never know because,
Starting point is 00:03:05 but I would think so. I think he'll be back skating. Okay. They'll smash that thing with ice and compression. Rice. Trankill inflammation. Does the rice stand for a go? Tragalizers and cortisones and ear pods and nose hair trimmers.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Have they contacted you yet? No, but they listen. Yeah. They listen to the show. So it's rest incline. Because K.L. loves us, right? That's what how he's going to get back to Calgary. He's been gone home.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yes. Can't figure out the rice analogy. Mr. McCar will tell. I do wonder, though, is it too late? Even if he does get filled with horse tranquilizers. Tata ha. You need the 950 goalie to stop being a 950 goalie. And he definitely was 950 in the first last night.
Starting point is 00:03:53 I don't know. They're frustrating to watch the abs because they seem so close to creating so much. And then there's always the, ah, ugh. And Vegas does such a good job of protecting that house in front of the net. It's silly to say because it happens so little, but they are. team that could rattles off. If there was ever a team
Starting point is 00:04:10 I don't believe they will. Yeah. No, and you know what? Like, there's never been a series. Like, there's only been,
Starting point is 00:04:15 what, four ever where teams have come back. Two of them were in like a six team era pre, you know, television and the other two was Boston Philly.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Did you research this? And then the other, it's to the tune of 98% yeah, is 98% of the time. You have a three nothing lead. Right. And the point being,
Starting point is 00:04:35 no one ever watches a team down 03 and saying, oh, this is the time they're coming back. Because the odds are so stacked against you. Every time it's like they're dead, they're screwed. But to your point, like we are watching one of the more prolific teams of the last decade. If you knew you had Primo McCar and McKinnon the rest of the way, maybe you give it the 5% chance instead of the 1% or 2% chance. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:02 I'm with Ryan on that where it's like, if you had your top dogs, Nate Dog, yeah, get that? If you had your top guys 100% enrolling? Goalie had shipped the bed for the last three years. They haven't really been outplayed. Like they blown leads late and awkwardly in games where they felt like they've been in control in the first two. And then game three,
Starting point is 00:05:23 I can't help but think they kind of just throw up their feet a bit up to 3.0, which is like, you can't. But it's also, you know, Vegas obviously adjusts and plays a much better second period. And then the wheels start coming off from Colorado with the Nate injury halfway through. but it's not like it's like, well, we've watched your games and Vegas is clearly the better team. It's like we've watched your games and we've watched Vegas like it critical moments make a big play and get a big save. But they certainly haven't outplayed the abs. Doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:05:52 No, but it's it's not like we've watched three, five, nothing games and they can't hang with these guys. No, it's not that they can't hang, but I think I'm giving more credit to Vegas. They can hang. They're hanging. Correct. We all thought it was going to be a short series the other way, or at least. the consensus one. And it's stupid
Starting point is 00:06:08 hockey and it's stupid NHL. And when you go and watch the other conference, it's the same thing. Two game sevens were a team that got through. It wasn't the better team. And again, if you want to explain a lot about hockey, who's getting the goal attending? You switch to the 950 goalies here.
Starting point is 00:06:25 It's three nothing the other way. Yeah, and Colorado's not getting. They're not getting enough. That hurdle goal, yeah, looks nice, but situation like that. You can't let the church outside. Yeah. On the, whichever, I guess it's the,
Starting point is 00:06:36 it's the Carlson goal. It's a shot and he blockers it kind of right into the slot and it's then it's there for Carlson to shoot it in and yeah, I don't know. We haven't talked a lot about it, but it is kind of oilersy to roll with the tandem of guys that neither. Their numbers were so much better. Yeah, totally. So essentially you go and patch up your net mining, which you hated because you had
Starting point is 00:07:00 Giorvia and Annen a year and a half ago. And over the span of two weeks, they go get. Blackwood and Wedgwood for really relatively low prices. Like seconds, thirds, you know, prospects that weren't going to fit into Colorado's future. That tandem has worked really nicely together. We all expected Blackwood, the younger, higher pedigree goalie to become the one. But this year, Wedgwood outplayed him to the tune of like they win the Jennings and he's got the best goals against the same percentage in the league amongst qualified starters.
Starting point is 00:07:30 And it's like, okay, like it's not name brand goaltending, but like how are you going to argue with these numbers all year? And then here we are in a big series and they're just not getting it. I had a nice giggle there because I remember last year, Nate's like, freaking Heiskenin's out and we're still getting beat by these guys. And what are we doing here? What are you going to say,
Starting point is 00:07:50 Matt? And I, he's going to be in front of office going. You go with Wedgwood and Blackwood. And what does Wedgewood do? He's been unreal in the regular season. A 2.02 and a 921. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Are we going to spend assets that we need to? No. And I don't know what you do. And again, if you have superstars to the tune of Macar, McKinnon, and all these other great players, like, you just can't go and get a $10 million goalie. Your cap's not built for it. They've done a really good job. And the $10 million goalie may not play better.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Doesn't matter. No, I was what I was just going to say was, noodles comes on, right? We love noodles. St. Louis Blues, him and Churick, some of the win the Jennings. I believe they won the Jennings. They go up against Detroit. They lose. This was the number one team in the NHL.
Starting point is 00:08:33 It's the same scenario. Like this shit like this happens in the NHL playoffs. It's the craziest thing, but the goaltending, like if you knew, if you knew which teams are going to get 950 goaltending, it'd be really easy to brag that. So I think it's not. If he's giving nine or a goaltending, they're down in this series 3-0. You're being too simple. Like I think maybe they get one, but they're not 3-0 if this.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Carter Hart's been unbelievable. And like, you know, Nelson hits a post and it goes out and there's a obscene pass that hits this. And they're getting some bounces. It's good luck. Like Carter Hart is not. 950 goalie. No one in the history of the league's ever been that, but he's on a heater and they're getting a lot of bounces. And if you look at the shooting
Starting point is 00:09:10 percentage, the same percentage, it'll tell you that. I'm not saying Vegas isn't good. Very well. Don't we say that about Cup winners a lot? So, yes. Brovsky's out of his mind. Yeah, Nassilowski, you can't beat him. And so that was my point. If we just knew ahead of time which goal is to be 950, it'd be real easy to figure out the sport out. Yeah, I
Starting point is 00:09:27 think somewhere in there you need to give Vegas more credit. They've defended really well. Because they won't quit. They have hung with this team that No one gave them a chance to win this series. Except for Jack. And red. Did you pick Vegas? But you were just trying to get back into the.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Yeah, this is no great insight. It was more along the lines of the president trophy. The winner never wins the Stanley Cup. So there's that. That's the other thing. And then the third thing we haven't talked about that needs to be addressed is that with this superstar cast of players and top half of the roster stars, they had one of the worst power plays in the regular season all year.
Starting point is 00:10:02 and it has been really tough this series against Vegas. If you get power play goals in any sort of regularity, it's a different series right now. Of course. You're kind of stating the obvious how they could have win.
Starting point is 00:10:15 If your goaltending was better than the other team's goaltending and I'm not even saying here's why they should be winning. I'm saying like, here are the issues Colorado's having. They're getting out, goaltended by the other team.
Starting point is 00:10:24 They're losing. The superstars are hurt. And the power play somehow was awful in the regular season, got a little better towards the end of the year. Like, I don't know how. That power play should click. at 40%. This is my point.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Like, you know, even if you said, okay, well, except 10th best in the league, they were what, bottom 5? When Neiman, who did he score the goal on Minnie, right? The Wollsted, but just put it in the slot. When you can make that shot, your power plate should be. So you've got McCarra the point, you go, okay, there's McKinney, you got Natchez's full speed. And everyone else.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Landisg, war, quadry, net front wall, or whatever you want. Seven other guys that would be in our top power point. Totally. They go over for four in the power play yesterday. But again, I feel like yesterday is game if you just put it in and of itself you have a three nothing lead and then the water starts coming in and then your best player goes down and you know the other best player is not 100% right mccar said afterwards he said i wish i could have done more i was kind of a passenger than i
Starting point is 00:11:21 even played 27 minutes but he was not himself and then you watch mckinan go down in there as well natuchin didn't play in the third period he got dinged up or something so he missed the back end of the second and all they didn't respond to the pushback at all no they they really cratered and even in color yes could they've won they didn't do enough to win and when other teams i haven't seen it much when vegas is kind of hanging in there yeah keeping up i think they're almost frustrated wasn't a three nothing minnesota in that clinching game for colorado too like we expect colorado these types of performances. Vegas, the first time all year, they come down from three. Yeah, Vegas should come back from three in Colorado.
Starting point is 00:12:07 They never lost a game when they were up by two. Three is a lot. Well, you're right. It's just stunning. It really is. And again, not trying to take away credit from Vegas because where they were at with two weeks left in the regular season, you looked at the roster. You're like, Marner's having a, you know, down year by his standards.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Do you look a little old? You're not getting saves. they're flat. Has Cassidy lost the room? Take some stones to do what they did and swap out coaches at that phase of the season. And it's been a masterstroke. That's not an inside the park, Homer like your kid does. That is a grand salami.
Starting point is 00:12:45 This is the fifth decker. Right out of the torterella move. Yeah. Right out of the ball diamond. I mean, nobody's, well, Jersey did it, right? Yeah. We keep saying nobody, but it's so rare that it's so, and it's so late. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 He was Gary Lawless. I think it's now 23 games. They're 18, 4 and 1. One of those losses. Now, and that really makes you wonder about Cassidy and how the guys were getting along with him, right? It doesn't mean me why. Thanks, Krista Claire. Yeah, I think Tororello's one hell of a coach.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Yeah. I don't know if he's 18, 4 and 1 when they were a dog shirt before. Something. It must have been real obvious. I mean, the people that had the view of the room and the years of the player and the coach said, we got to get this guy out of here. And you want us a cup?
Starting point is 00:13:35 How many years ago? See, they should give him to Edmonton. Well, the problem is he's good. The first couple of years. So cold. I'm being cheek. If you could get your three. Cassidy.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Only twice if President's trophy winner has been swept. Oh, 2019, Tampa by torts and the jackets. And in 2022, Florida got, they got tamped. And they were talking about, Who? Florida. Got Tampaed.
Starting point is 00:14:03 They won with Hubert O and Weger the last year with those two, I believe. They won the president's trophy. Yeah, I didn't know. The next year, different group, and they go to the cup final after barely squeaking in. Flames had more points than that year, didn't get in. Pittsburgh lose to Chicago game 82. They sneak in. What's important, though, you would know this being a coach.
Starting point is 00:14:27 You got to have a brave face. Things are not good. Geez, you can't. best players down and one of the best defensemen in the world is this. We're letting in goals and all this sort of thing. So for Jared Bednar, when you sit there post game, you got to, stoic, you got to look confident. Even if you're churning inside and you're feeling like, holy crap, we're going to lose this thing.
Starting point is 00:14:47 You got to show steady confidence. Coach, you have all the momentum in the world going into the second period. What kind of fell apart for you guys? Everything. Just given what. happened in that game and where the series is at now? Like what is kind of the emotion at the moment from you and from your group that you've noticed?
Starting point is 00:15:06 Well, it's low. It's as low as it can get, you know, because you got a big hill to climb. And so the next 24 to 36 hours is for you got to find a way to get over it and regroup and go again. He should have done the torts. Should have taken the fine and loss of a draft. I'm going straight to the bus. Stunner.
Starting point is 00:15:39 It is one of those things when you, he's got big arms there. Yeah, he's like, man. Holy. If you, does McCar get hurt?
Starting point is 00:15:49 Does McKinnah get hurt? And does the, you know, you miss, Mchushcheon doesn't play and all this. You know that going in? Maybe you feel differently about it. But Colorado has been such a juggernaut for so long.
Starting point is 00:15:59 I'm disappointed in the rest of the team because, okay, you absolutely. Well, you had McKinnon. So you had McCarrow, a superstar, build your team around kind of guy.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Is the rest of that team not good enough to get a job done? They're not playing well enough. They're better than, but that's my point, is it? Their best, I thought, and even going into last night, Logan O'Connor was everywhere.
Starting point is 00:16:23 He's been their best forward. It's always that way though with good, even the good, when you don't expect anything from the fourth line, I always go back to Jersey when Jersey won, Detroit, when Detroit won, draper Maltby McCarty right it was those guys that you were like holy shit I'm gonna go these guys are unbelievable
Starting point is 00:16:42 Eisenman and Federer. Yeah, well, they're going to do their thing. It's the other guys that step up. So it's not surprising to hear that. Now, they're still losing. No, but to summarize everyone's point, you need more from cadre, you need a lot more from the Brock Lobster. You need more from NACIS. Yeah, it's all fine and good to say, oh, we got Nick Waugh. Yeah, Nick Waugh's, how about you? Jack Drury.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And they've had some big performances from those guys. It's been Kelly earlier on. And, you know, I haven't mined some of Drury. K-E-L-Y. Because such a great You know what? The series isn't over yet, but this will be the 10th season
Starting point is 00:17:23 for Jared Bednar. I wonder. And the only reason I bring it up, because I don't think he's a bad coach, and I think... Sweater vest? Because of his sweater. No, it's because David Carl's coaching in Denver. And he's the top candidate outside of the NHL
Starting point is 00:17:36 that's been very picky in shoes. He's been offered multiple spots, but has a young family is getting compensated nicely at DU. It might be the only spot where he'd jump. Yeah. And I don't think that necessarily means he's an upgrade on Bednar.
Starting point is 00:17:49 We just know that coaches have shelf lives. Well, the average tenure in the league is under three years and you've got a guy sitting at 10, you're just wondering, is there a different voice, a different tactic, or just a freshening we can do?
Starting point is 00:18:02 Now, again, they might come back and make this a series, and I'm not putting the loss squarely on one person's plate being Bednar. The support cast doesn't be good enough. Injuries, bad luck. Goldthending's not good enough. I think Bednar is a good coach, but I do find it curious that David Carl lives in the city.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Top candidate for a couple years. That makes it interesting. And I was one, Bednar was out there with his sweater vest. I was kind of wondering, well, maybe that's, maybe it's,
Starting point is 00:18:25 but then you're like, Jesus, we lost McCar and McKinnon. Didn't feel like a rallying cry, did it? No. They won 55 games in the regular. No,
Starting point is 00:18:35 I know. Yeah. And look, what's the expectation? We've seen, yeah, they'd trade 15 of those wins for another round further in the playoffs. We get that.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Yeah, but it is, like Jim, I'm with the, I don't know. Who was coaching Boston when they had 130 some points? Jimmy Montgomery. See ya. Yeah, he was off.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Like, that's, that's, but was that the right move? I mean, they did fire. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm just saying like the league,
Starting point is 00:18:58 the way that it's operated, there is such short tenures, and this is one of the longest serving guys out there. And the top candidate. F out of here is in your backyard. He's thinking how? I'm yelling him. How did I get fired when we won the president's trophy and got to round three?
Starting point is 00:19:15 It might be an interesting. The two of the best players in the sport both got heard in a span of seven days. What's the bigger curse? The president's trophy or the Jack Adams? We honestly see it happen all the time.
