Hi, how we doing, everybody?
Welcome to the, welcome to the show.
The old barn burner here on a, so let me see, Wednesday, November the 6th.
I believe that to be accurate.
How are we doing, everybody?
It's a cold one out there, Dean.
I slipped on the dock again.
Oh, geez.
Ouch.
Got to get those spiky shoes that the trainers wear.
Yeah.
Or like some rubber hockey matting or something, like the stuff they'll have.
Yeah.
I would save the dog too over the winter while the boys get their blades on.
Have you, have you worn those?
Because you're talking about the shoes with the, uh, yeah, each, each toe has its own little deal there.
I had those years ago when I went to Australia the first time.
Got them in Australia right, down and a.
Yeah, those are a little disturbing.
I've never really known to think about those.
I don't know either.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I mean, maybe there's major health benefits to your feet.
I don't know.
Maybe I would not have
I've heard debates about this.
This is an odd start for us,
but I've heard debates where maybe barefoot is better for everybody.
I've been told barefoot's a good deal.
You did very well with bare feet for thousands of years, I'm told.
Shoes are a very recent invention, I believe.
I wonder what the thought was when the first person.
I think I'm going to wear something on my feet.
What are you talking about?
It's those hot lava rocks, Dean.
Yeah, temperature and there's sharp objects.
and that, I'm thinking, you pussy.
What is the shoe? What are you talking about?
What is that? What have you got
in your feet? Hey, sweetheart.
What's going on over there? I'm guessing that's how the conversations
went back. Who invented the shoe, Jack? Can you find out?
Bill Zapato. Bill Shoe Williger. Hey.
Something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Retro, big night, last.
night pizza wings flames win trump what i believe uh i believe trump did win what's the comeback kid
coronado 45 47 he's that's that's right there for you i said we were talking he's 45 46 47 but yeah
i had to uh 7 i had to stay up the old uh the network there said trump's going to talk i got i'm going to have
to stay up for this. He, uh, he never disappoints. He, uh, he's a showman. Did he do the,
listen to 10 songs in a row and just dance or did he address some stuff? What did he do?
There was no dancing. I was really ready for the, home stretch. I was really thing there to get her
going, get the crowd going. But all the people were wound up and, uh, his speeches are so
awful. Well, his speeches, they're wildly entertaining. It's just in what perspective. Are you, are you
They've never seen anything.
The greatest comeback.
They've never, never seen.
You're like, okay, this is the one where he finally just actually says something good and direct and it's clear.
And it's like, oh, no.
Yeah.
It's like there's a prompter there.
And you know, it's being fed with something.
And, okay, now he's off prompter.
Now he's freelancing now, okay, this feels like it could be prompter.
This feels like it could be the prepared stuff.
Oh, no, now he's riffing again.
this is uh oh i was wondering how many people he was going to bring want to brice into shambo to come up
he had dana white going it's like this is really something this is quite something oh well
we're uh we're not going to talk about that i went it is i want to say what because i said it at
the at the richmond's last night i said the best part of any election in north america
because that's what we somewhat pay attention to is to flip back and forth between all the
different networks.
Yeah.
And the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
the,
it is quite
a roller coaster.
Yeah,
there's,
uh,
varying,
it feels like
a lot of
emotions,
an,
on emotional night,
for sure,
for a lot of people,
but,
uh,
and that Coronado.
And I'll tell you what,
hey.
The player,
Matthew Coronado,
shoot the puck,
kid.
Keep shooting that puck.
Flames,
looked like they were
dead to rights.
they're down in the third period, but wait a minute.
On 3-1 at one for-
Wait a minute. Is that off the cheater came in offside?
Yes, he did.
Okay, one goal game.
Oh, we're going to tie that son of a gun and then it's overtime.
Let's take a look at the, well, let's take a look at the tying goal because this is late.
Late stages of the third period.
17-14 of the third period.
Backland's in there.
We're digging away.
We're digging away.
We're digging away.
Coleman's in there.
Everybody's in there.
Coronado's like, I'm going to come to the front of the net.
Oh, got a blocked. Okay.
Do you buy myself some time? A little spinneroo.
A little spinnerooly.
Wire it.
You like the spinnerooney?
I like the spinnerooney.
Yeah, I do too.
I still like watching Montreal's defense, not do anything.
Max Lapierre told us this would happen.
Like what?
They got somebody's guy and there's nobody really challenging.
I was just hanging back.
Yeah, Jake Evans was, I'm good, I'm good.
I'm just going to, look at the, oh my good, anyway.
It's Warner's Whiteboard.
What do we got?
Well, the two guys in the slot, not even the defenseman who was kind of tied up in front of the net,
who eventually leaves and kind of tries to block the shot.
The two other forwards, both sagging back into, where?
Like, you're not taking the D pass back to Miramana.
I mean, I guess you're taking away the backdoor.
Backland is wide open back door.
you want it and there's a great seam there to find him if you need it well there's two sticks there
but yeah i hear what you're saying like it's either the wing or the center that's got to get all
over coronado it's not good yeah sorry the right d or the center that's that's that's who's got to be
there no yeah yes or someone or anyone really but hey it's a hybrid man so whenever they figure
out what that is and where they're supposed to go you know what they'll be good screw that cornade is
so good they didn't what are you going to do they're intimidated it is a nice this is this is
this is Warner's whiteboard for McLeod Law.
It's the opening statements, but I like this.
We get to break down the game film with retro for McLeod Law.
And of course, they're Calgary.
It's what Calgary-based, Calgary-Born.
They're here for Calgary people.
They know what life is like here.
They know the challenges that we face, and they are here for you.
When you call McLeodlaw, when you go in these, oh, it's just Calgary.
It's very nice.
MacLeod-Dashlaw.com, not to say if you don't live in Calgary, you can't use McLeodlaw.
They're very diverse, but no.
question about it. They, uh, they're proud of those Calgary routes. They understand the community.
They have very proud to serve the community and looking to make a positive impact on the city
of Calgary. Yes, the whiteboard. Now that we go to overtime. I'm not sure what the breakdown is here.
Three on three. Just as a heads up to everybody who's about to watch the clip. It's a three on three
situation. It is overtime. And so there's Suzuki and Matheson is a defenseman. DeVorak is taking the
draw to me dean this is just reeks of great coaching by huska does it this is brilliant stuff
he just grown on i want you to knock the stick out of your opponent he threw that up you just hold on
really light yeah chalk what happens next week here how'd you lose your stick bud how did you lose your
stick like were you holding on did they drop the puck when you weren't right no it looks like you're
ready i don't know caught the ref and i does honestly does uh does monta bow even move on this
Like look at it.
I wonder if he's taking a quick peek to his left to see if Suzuki's got Backland.
If he was,
I mean,
just watch the puck holder.
I wouldn't get to.
There's one guy at the slot with the puck.
Yeah.
I often give the D shit for letting the pass go across,
but if the goalie's looking the other way,
then it doesn't.
Your job is the shooter goalie.
Yeah.
Just stop the puck.
Yeah.
Now,
where does it beat him?
High glove?
Because if you go and stop it again there, Jack,
stop it now.
If anything, the goal he's drifting too far to his left.
Well, this angle doesn't give us a good idea of that.
But it looks like he doesn't.
I feel like that angle shows me that if anything,
he's cheating to his glove side.
Well, if the camera's behind Cornell,
we can see if he's covered the net properly or not.
Regardless.
But yeah, it appears from that angle,
but I think he beats him on the other side to, you know.
Is it under his glove?
It would seem like if there was room to beat him,
it might have been blocker's side,
but he still beats him somewhere.
Is there a chance that goes off?
of the skate of Matheson or
it's the typical
if your guy scored
one hell of a shot
if you're goal he let it in
what are you doing dude
and Mr. Rist are from the top of the circle
NHL does he see the release because you got
the diving foot in there in front
of the shot that's right yeah that was the Don Cherry
thing is like if you're going to block
it I'll get to go away you're not see it
you're distracted by that
but to your point
and we talked about this last night
on Afterburger.
This had the potential to be a game that Flames fans wouldn't have been
totally jacked up about.
They had a good start in the first period,
and then they kind of fell asleep,
and then they came back, but there was a short-handed goal they gave up.
They gave up a power play goal against.
They were down three to one with the unfortunate goal called off.
Shout out Jamie Bringle.
Yeah.
Could have been one of those nights.
Oh, boy.
this because Montreal wasn't very good and they win.
It does make you wonder about the long term of this all, right?
Because it's like Montreal's in year three.
They don't look like they're a lot closer than they were in year two or year one in a way.
And the flames are kind of not really tearing it down that far because you still got.
That is dressing pinder that you bring that out.
No, no, I mean, it's just, I'm not, but a good, a good point.
Oh, it is.
So what I'm saying is they're much more competitive was than Montreal.
was when they started to rebuild. That'd be my assertion. But the challenge is is that, let's say
you're aiming to be good three years, like how much contribution are you getting from Hubert
O'Caudry-Backland at that point? Even Uyghur should be at an asset and decline. So they
kind of, with this, what, seven, six and one start feel like, you know, you might be handing a
pick from 11 to 20 to the habs this summer. And that's how this team needs to do, big
pitcher. And granted they're without
Slavkovsky because they
bottomed out, they got a top pick.
And they got a number one. He wasn't playing.
Ryanbacker isn't playing. So there's some high
draft stock that they have invested in that
was not there. I don't watch a lot of halves.
We watch this one game. But to your point,
that doesn't feel like
they're not coming. Without watching, it doesn't
feel like a team that's knocking on the door
as a impending powerhouse
in the east. No, and there's some nice pieces
you'd love, but it's
I don't know.
And the flames, I sort of thought, okay,
they were nine from the bottom last year.
There's a really good chance.
Like, Ottawa's got to pass them because Ottawa,
you know,
there's too much talent for that to fail again.
They changed your head coach.
They finally addressed their goal.
Ottawa drafted ahead of them.
They're going to pass them.
Utah picked ahead of them.
Utah's going to pass them.
Buffalo was behind them actually,
but I think they stay ahead because, you know,
another year older for all for the youngest team in the league,
Buffalo Sabers.
I thought even it seemed like Columbus would have a chance to get past them
because they don't lack young talented players.
But if you're not going to get past here, you're in great danger of sending a first rounder to Montreal.
That could be a very, very high selection.
And that, that, that, that, if you're strictly looking at being good in fall 27, this hasn't been a good month for you.
So it's top 10 protected.
That's correct.
Yeah.
But again, this is the Monahan deal.
You sent a first rounder to Montreal so they could eat the last year of Sean Monaghan's salary.
That allowed Bradshaw living to go sign Nazim Kadri.
In hindsight, it's an awful move because it's one where you did it and it would
make sense for a couple of year window, but they weren't competitive in those two years since the deal.
So now you're in the part that we always knew was going to be painful.
And the only way to mitigate the risk is it'll be Florida's pick going to Montreal,
which looks like it could be 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, as long as you finish in the bottom 10.
Now, it's early days, but they look like they're better than the bottom feeders.
Are they?
Okay.
Can I stop you there for one second, though?
Yeah.
was just said somewhat fortunate to get those two points in a way, right?
Like a close offside, very close.
Oh, they could have lost last night.
And they, yeah, it wasn't like they were undeniable and they were going to, right?
So they had a win.
They were better than we thought they were going to be.
There are 13 games in and they're in a playoff spot.
That's more than the big pitcher I'm talking about.
Totally.
But would you, again, I'll just play the other side because
this is what we do.
Did you expect Nashville and Colorado to be believed?
Of course not.
No.
And I'd expect they'll be better.
And I don't expect claims to be at a playoff spot.
I'm just,
it's all of a sudden looking very real that they could finish like 11 to 14 from the bottom
rather than bottom 10,
which is what you need to do.
Don't you depress me,
you son of a.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Tough day.
Tough day.
Tough day.
Yeah,
I don't know.
I think I maybe fall more to.
to the Reth side.
We saw them beat New Jersey.
We saw them beat Montreal.
But we also saw them handily outclassed.
Two games.
In a couple games, right?
14 games in, there's two, been two ugly games.
That's it, right?
Well, wow, they came back from 4-1.
And this, I think, is just...
It's small samples.
It's a season.
Yeah.
It's a season of hockey.
You will have a 3-0 win against a team like Jersey.
You will have a shitburger.
against a team like Utah.
Well, and you look at their wins.
One is over Vancouver.
Then it's they beat the Flyers.
They beat the Blackhawks.
They beat the penguins.
You know what I mean?
These are, yeah, you beat the devils.
But you've beaten some teams that are,
we expect not to be playoff teams as well, potentially.
What happens when you go through the,
when you got to churn your way through the east against some tough teams?
We'll see what Boston's got coming up.
the LA Kings seem to be playing pretty well.
I just, I still think, and again, not looking to be negative,
but if you are hoping for this to be a team that's going to be in that bottom,
I think they're still going to be there.
But I think that there's some, there's some things you want to see.
Your goaltender played pretty well.
You're seeing some of your young guys contributing.
Yeah, there's lots of great indicators for the future in terms of your three
youngest players had significant impact on this hockey game.
That was a really, really great thing to see.
and you know that that that's really what where the focus i think is you can you know it's not
overreacting to one game but to say connor zary bounced back after maybe one of his shake
your outcome uh outings to see mac coronado argue to play the best game of his
nchal career and to see dust and wolf continue to put together really strong starts he's had
one bad start this year that's it fellas everything else was really damn good are we going to get to a
point where maybe we have to call Craig and say, hey, you're doing too well, trade some of these guys?
Like, we don't need to finish 12. 13.
Some of them will do it. I think we'll solve themselves.
Like, let's, again, it's the small sample, but through 14 games, what have you made of Andre
Kuzmenko?
Not good enough.
I think you can move them.
Of course.
It's just what your return is.
Yeah, the decision tree is walk to free agency and potentially lose for nothing, trade or
You're trading him at this point.
And I think there's been clarity through 14 games that, you know, while he's exciting and fun and incredibly high skilled, wildly inconsistent and not a guy that you can pay into your mid 30s at market rate, right?
Might be a huge addition to a team that's trying to make a run.
Maybe some scoring issues.
You're a team that's, oh boy, if we could just add something on the second line, you run into an injury on the wing, totally agree.
So that's going to sort itself out.
Anthony Manta's going to sort itself out.
And those are the two big UFAs.
and if Dan Vodar wants to keep putting together strong starts,
they really love Devin Cooley.
That's going to sort of self-vote.
So you're asking maybe they'll trade some guys.
I think those three guys, I'd be shocked if any of them are here beyond the deadline.
A couple things.
Number one, I don't think we need to call a Conroy because we know he watches.
So if we want to get the message through to him,
we'll just get on the show, he'll download it and watch.
And number two, it's Wednesday.
So it's time for one of our special guests.
Very excited.
It was a tough loss for Montreal last night.

Jamie McClennon, TSN, analyst, host.
entertainer.
Great guy, entertainer.
What's a prognosticator?
That's someone who predicts the future.
Agitator.
Yeah.
Shit disturbers more.
It's like when you have a crystal ball.
Do you have a crystal ball?
Does TSN have one of those in there where you kind of...
I do need a crystal ball.
You were just talking about crystal waters.
Yeah.
My plumber was literally eight feet away from me fixing that sink right there.
And I'm, you go, you literally like, you need a plumber.
He like, looked at me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mike,
do you house calls?
I love them.
Yeah.
It's what it is.
Something goes wrong.
Oh,
geez.
I need somebody.
And then so,
my head is too big.
Yeah.
Do you want to start Googling or start looking around?
No,
it's just crystal waters.
Good.
And I'm not an agitator.
I just feel like I speak my mind and there's nothing wrong with that.
Sometimes I've got a face that people want to smack.
But other than that,
it's all good.
I heard you talking about Kuzmese.
Menko. I agree with you. There's a reason why he was so polarizing in Vancouver.
He'd either be a world beater or you couldn't, you wouldn't hear his name on a broadcast for
three games straight. Yeah. Rick Tock, it was done. I was calling a game last night in Buffalo and
Ottawa. And I went on the talk back to my producer and I said, have you heard this guy's
name? I can't remember who it was. It was like Drake Batherson or something. You heard
Batherson's name once tonight.
Because usually when your top players are engaged,
play by play, it's talking about him.
You've got to weigh in on it's a good chance here or whatever.
There's nights where I watch the flames, I'm like, that Kuzmenko, I haven't heard
his name.
You don't hear Ab say his name once, you know, or, you know, here, great chance by
Kuzminko.
What a pass.
What a defensive play.
You don't hear him in the meat of the game, which is concerning.
I do agree he has value.
You know, there's guys that have value on that roster,
but they're chipping away, man.
They get points.
They get wins.
They get all these little things.
So, you know, Connie could sit back and kind of deal from a position of strength as the season goes on.
Yeah.
Peak pain is 11th from the bottom.
That's if we're being fearful, then you're sending the 11th pick to Montreal.
You're going to have Jersey and Florida's picks, which will be very late in round one.
That's what we're trying to avoid here.
Yeah.
Well, that's, I mean, I think.
that's what you're trying to do.
But I mean, at the end of the day, for Connie, he's got some young players that are pushing
through at the Coronado.
Obviously, it's really nice.
Zari, you mentioned making a bounce back game.
Like guys like that who are just learning on the job.
And I like the fact that some of these veterans are, you know, they're not just going
through the motions, you know, they're engaged.
And that's helping these young players, you know, kind of be pros.
and see what it's like daily.
And as the season goes on,
you can start to mix a match and try,
you know, challenge guys,
put them in situations where they can either have success
or they fail and go, okay,
that wasn't for them.
But that's up to Huska on a nightly basis.
It was one of those nights last night,
if you dream on the future,
if you're a flames fan,
it was your kind of night.
Connor Zeri was demoted to the fourth line
in the previous game.
He scores in the second period to give them,
that made it won nothing, I guess, at that point.
Coronado first round pick, demoted to the AHL, brought back up, ties it,
scores the game winning goal.
And for Wolf, he only faced 23 shots, but, I mean, 15 of his 21 saves were in the first
period.
It was kind of a shooting gallery.
He's been really good.
I think that there's always that kind of, I think he's good.
Is he good?
Can he be good?
We think we're watching something special here.
Can he can?
I think he can.
Last day, it was kind of one of those nights where you felt pretty good about it.
I think we should just agree on this show and maybe I'm wrong.
Like, he's a good goaltender.
Dustin Wolf is an NHL good goaltender.
The only thing that I continue to look for is what is his progression?
What is his ceiling?
Is he a backup?
Is he a tandem?
Is he a one?
Or is he elite number one?
Elite number one, there's what?
six, seven of them in the league.
So that's the goal.
Can he be UC Saros?
And Saras has had a slow start, but he's still an elite goaltender, in my opinion.
So, you know, that's the question for me.
You know, Pinder, you talk about it all the time.
All this guy has done is win and win awards and dominate every level he's gotten to.
Now he's on the biggest stage.
It's going to take time, but I like him.
I think he's a, you know, he's, I think there's no doubt he's an NHL goaltender.
It's just where now, where does the dust settle for Dustin Wolf?
That's really what it is.
No pun intended.
How do you approach him and Vladar if you're the flames, uh, goalie crew, La Barbara, Siglut and others?
And could, could you throw Cooley in there too only because he's played so well that
Wranglers are nine and two.
They lost last night, but I didn't get winning streak ended.
Well, Cooley's an interesting one because I think it was an,
kind of a sneaky little play by Connie, right?
Like you bring them in and there's depth in that position.
Keep in mind, now remind me,
Vlodar, is he on expiring contract?
So there's your exit plan, really.
You know, if you ask me,
if there's an injury or a team that's looking for
either an upgrade or somebody who can be an NHL goaltender
that doesn't cost you a million,
you know, millions and millions of dollars,
That's Vladar, because Wolf's not going anywhere.
And I think Cooley is kind of, I don't want to say found money,
but he's a guy that can give minutes at the NHL level and has.
And, you know, Vlodar, I think, what did Tree get for him?
Was it a second rounder he paid for him from Boston?
Third with Boston.
I want to say that's three years ago.
Okay.
So maybe you can relay him into a second now.
I just want to say, it's mediocre.
It's a third.
I think you could turn him into a second rounder.
in the right setting.
Again, you know, for a team that either has an injury or something.
So that's that's to me where there is some,
some flexibility for Connie.
Again, it comes back to Connie having strength with his cards
because he doesn't have to do anything with any one of these guys.
What's the league consensus on a guy like Vladar?
Like I look at Colorado and I'm like,
how long are they going to ride this out?
Is he a solution for them?
Is that becoming not yet maybe?
It's not yet because they went and got Kachanin, right?
And they put him in the minors and, you know, he's come up.
There's Eustace Annen, who's got the biggest head you've ever seen in your life.
I walked by him and I was like, oh, this kid has like got this squatter.
It looks like he's chubby and then you're like, he's chiseled, but he's got this furnace face.
He looks like his thing.
You know what?
Is it an orange on a toothpick?
Yes.
Heed pants now.
No, it, he, they like him and he's played well for them at the H.L level.
I think the biggest question, Marcus, is Georgie five, right?
Like is he, like 60-some games last year led the league, I believe in wins.
It's just he is wildly inconsistent to the point where I think they're trying to take minutes off of him just so that they can get his game in order.
So I do believe Fla Dar, if you're getting back to your initial question, Rhett,
Ladar has value
but is Joe Sackick saying
is he better than the guys that we have incumbent?
I would say no
because Joe believes he's got
Annen who they're developing
and Kakin and who they kind of
believe can be an NHL guy.
And you've got to get your number one
in order.
I'm just more looking at a team that has
you know, two guys
and then they've got no NHL experience
afterwards.
You know, for the guy, the guy's up the road.
If Stewart's here blows his knee out, now you're looking at Calvin Pickett, Pickard, and
Olivia Rodriguez, or Olivia Rodriguez is the, my daughter's favorite singer.
She might be a good.
Apologies.
But Oliver Rodriguez, and he didn't look great in the preseason.
So all of a sudden, now, if you're looking for a veteran guy, that's where Connie has got
some leverage and goes, I got a guy who can play.
and he's not going to cost you the king's ransom,
but it will be a second rounder or a live player of my choice.
Okay, so then back to the original.
You understand that you can really work on shining this jewel
as an asset at the trade deadline in Vladar.
You can also see what you can learn about Dustin Wolf in his first full season
in the NHL where he's actually got a shot at winning a job.
Are you comfy just alternating them unless there's a superlative performance?
Because that's what they've done.
They've alternated with the exception.
of after of Lidar shutout, he started back to back.
That was the only consecutive starts we've seen all year.
I'm comfortable with it because I'm looking at the big picture.
And the big picture is, you know, what is a magic number for Dustin Wolf this season?
Keep in mind this season.
Like if there's a step ladder of progression, you don't have to force feed 65 games on him
and go, oh, you know what?
He's not a 65 game starter.
Maybe the progression is by the time he's 27, he will be a 60 game starter.
So do you build it up and get him 45 this year?
Can you get him something with a five in it?
So I like the fact that they're going back and forth because what you're doing is you're keeping it very competitive, which it is.
You want guys fighting for the net.
You don't want it to be, hey, it doesn't matter how I play.
I'm going right back in.
That luxury is only for six to eight guys in the league.
Everybody else should be fighting for the net because for the most part, the league is tandem.
So I would say, you know, right now going back and forth, but there should be a separator at some point where it's like, okay, this guy, let's see if he can handle a five game stretch of playing five games in eight days in a bunch of different cities under different circumstances and kind of inch him through that.
But, you know, La Barbara and Jordan Sigelette, they know what they're doing.
Like they've been there.
They've got a pulse.
They understand how these guys are wired behind closed doors.
a lot better than I am because I don't know.
Danny Vladar, I've met several times.
It seems like a really good guy.
I've met Dustin Wolfe a few times.
Seems like a quiet guy who just kind of does what he,
you know, stops, pucks and does what he does.
But I don't know him personally.
These guys will know them and kind of know their fabric.
So to answer your question,
I'm fine with it going back and forth.
But I think there will be a few times
where there will be separators this year.
And you might see Wolf get something in the high 40s or low 50s.
that would be my goal for him this year to see where on that progression.
The flames will play in Boston next up,
and we'll talk about the Bruins tomorrow,
but Bruins were in a bad way,
and then they kind of turned it around and won a couple of games back-to-back,
shutouts for both goalies, and then they lose to the Leafs.
I was reading this morning,
it's the first time in eight regular season games
that the Leafs got to win against Boston.
Montgomery hot seat or it seems to be under fire,
He sat pastternack, but he was back in yesterday's, says no big deal.
And that happens, I guess, but to sit your star for an entire period.
What are you hearing, I guess, is what it comes down to?
Anything at all?
Or what's the vibe on Boston?
Because it's not really a, I mean, it's win now.
It's not a rebuild, but they are kind of young.
I don't know where they are in their arc, I suppose.
I think they are lumped together with all of these other teams.
So the Boston Bruins have six wins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have seven wins.
Tampa Bay has seven wins.
Ottawa has six wins.
Detroit has five wins.
Buffalo has five wins.
And the Montreal Canadians have four wins.
So with six teams are separated by six points.
And some games like the Ottawa senators have two games in hand on some of them.
Detroit has three games in hand.
They've only played 11 games.
So I would say this.
Like there's, you know, it's easy to point at Boston,
and go, geez, like, what's going on there?
I could go to Tampa,
lost three in a row. I can go to the Leafs that,
you know, lost two on the weekend,
and hey, they got a big win and a big shout out last night,
got the monkey off their back.
You know, now they, it's back on.
I don't know. I think, you know,
these teams, the one thing I always point out,
there's more organizations that have won the Stanley Cup in October and November.
Like, this is what it is.
Some of these fan bases are like,
yep, they're destined to do this.
They're destined to do that.
So I would say to Boston, to all of these teams,
Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo, the Leafs, Tampa, you need consistency.
And I haven't seen any one of those teams that have found their game on a consistent basis yet.
Now, the season's still young, for the most part, we're looking at 70 games left.
We know what it's like the first month and a half where your habits aren't there.
some nights you look like world beaters,
some nights you look like, hey, we're out to lunch.
So I look at Jimmy Montgomery being on the hot seat
because there's an expectation in Boston.
But I would say Detroit has that expectation.
Buffalo, you know, Montreal,
all these teams that are trying to take that next step
and chase down the Tampa's and the Florida's and the Toronto's
and I include Boston in there.
So I look at the Atlantic as it,
I think this is going to be a dog fight.
And you can't lose five games in a row.
row if you're in the Atlantic because you will be at the bottom and you win five you might get
that separator might be up there you know kissing up against florida who you know doesn't seem
like they've taken their foot off the gas here at nine three and one so that's the most
interesting thing for me is i look through the league and a team that's won seven games feels superior
to a team that's won six and you're like okay you're bad one bad weekend away from being you know
kissing up against San Jose, who's got four wins now, you know.
So it's way too early for me to be, you know, it's more about the internal expectation.
Very level-headed take noodles, very level-headed and common sense.
I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Frank said it too.
This is just going to be the Atlantic this year.
Like it's just going to be a lot of pressure and rotating chairs outside of a couple.
And there will be fan bases that will be on fire and losing there, you know what,
because you're like, what's going on here?
You wake up one day and you're out of the playoffs.
You're in a wild card spot.
You're in a top three spot.
And you know what?
This market will be like that in Toronto.
I think it'll be like that in Tampa.
It's certainly like that in Boston because I think Boston just comes with this like,
hey, you know, we expect to be a top tier team every year.
They've just got this, you know, I think there's, I think it's on Twitter or something that
that one kid that's been to how many like parades.
Parades.
It's actually gross, right?
So that's, you go into New England, there's that expectation.
It's like, that's what we expect because we see winners every year.
So I think, you know, you look around the league, they're outside of Winnipeg, I guess.
You know, L.A. 83 and 3.
Like they're, but like the guys up the road, you know, they're 500.
And it looks like McJesus might play tonight.
I thought I read that.
But, you know, either way, like nobody has found they're just niche of a,
Like, hey, we're dialed in and this is the way we're going to play all season long.
It's still been your roller coaster up and down outside of a couple teams that are at the top
and a couple teams that are at the bottom.
Senators took on the chin last night in Buffalo.
You were there, as you mentioned.
Yep.
Good, what is it?
Good at home, not so much on the road.
It's, they're one of those teams.
And Ryan kind of brings it up.
Where are we at?
because it's you've been rebuilding.
You get some high picks.
You get some exciting young players.
Get the goalie.
But yeah,
you get the goalie,
but the results kind of seem the same.
Again,
early.
It is.
Do they give you any kind of confidence
or what,
do they give you that kind of vibe that,
this is a year that they do make a charge
and a real threat at a playoff spot?
The only reason I would say yes,
that they give me a different vibe is I feel like this year we'd be speaking.
Like a year ago we were speaking,
their six points out of a playoff spot.
Like they were always, like they've always had dreadful, dreadful October and
November's.
Chasing.
Chasing.
So you're never in a position where it's like, and then they come on near the end and you
go, boy, you know what, we ended up with 82 points.
So now, you know what, next year it's going to be 90 and we're going to be a playoff team.
And I always say, well, who's coming out?
But maybe it's Boston this year.
I don't know.
Maybe, you know, Matthew stays out longer and it's Toronto.
maybe it's Tampa.
Like, I don't know.
But somebody's coming out, or there's going to be a fifth team from the Atlantic,
and only three from the Metro.
But I will say this, like Ottawa has a lot.
They look different this year.
And what I mean by that is they're more mature.
Tim Stutzla is, I think he's got 16 or 17 points now in 11 or 12 games.
Brady Kachuk has had a nice streak.
the things that were hurting them last year in a few losses this year have creeped up.
The inconsistency, the game within the game.
So I'll give you an example.
Last night, I thought early on the senators were the better team.
You're playing against a very, very struggling Buffalo Sabres,
a desperate team that had lost three in a row.
So you knew they were going to hit the ground running because Lindy Rough, you know,
benched Samuelson, he benched Yuki, Yuki Harah, Yuki Haru or whatever, the defense, right shot.
So there was turmoil going on there.
You knew Buffalo was due for a big game.
So Ottawa starts really good.
And UPL, the goaltender, makes some big saves early.
And then if you look at what Ottawa struggled with, starting periods.
They start the second period.
They give up a goal 17 seconds in.
You barely, you know, a coach is barely on the bench and they give up a goal.
Early in the third period, it's two goals in like 23 seconds.
Games over.
You can't win games when you drop the puck and you're chasing the game.
And the other thing I'll point to was last night in a vacuum,
Ottawa's got a really good power play.
They were 0 for three last night.
You got to score in your power play.
And their penalty kill, they gave up two goals on the penalty kill.
So there's special teams.
You go throughout the league.
if your special team stink,
you're having a tough time
winning games are getting points in this league
because everybody five on five knows how to play.
Just not a lot of wiggle room for teams like that, right?
Like you say, tonight, it's a goalie wasn't sharp.
Then the power play wasn't good.
Our PK wasn't strong.
We weren't ready to go.
You just got to be so consistent
and things have to go right on a nightly basis
when you are one of those teams.
And the league's kind of full of them.
They are.
Even the good, even what we say, the great teams, the good teams,
they struggle with it.
So it's hard to know.
Now, Buffalo,
or Buffalo.
Lenova, some wings,
little pizza?
No, I didn't.
I literally went down yesterday morning.
I had like too much on my plate.
I didn't even go to morning skate.
So then I just went in.
I had to go to Target because my wife had to return.
Like,
they went to Target two weeks ago and bought a bunch of junk.
Yeah.
And then apparently the lady behind the counter was 114 years old.
She left one of those tags on.
Oh, no.
So my daughter couldn't wear these pants.
You can't wear it out, yeah.
So as I'm pulling out yesterday, like by wife calls and goes,
can you return these pants to Target in Buffalo?
I'm like, you don't think I got a job to do here?
Like now I'm at Target walking through customer service.
Can you take this tag off?
They're like, are you stealing this?
Yeah.
anyway, so, and then of course, retro, you know that I love P.F. Changs.
So I had to pop in there at Galleria, get a little P.F. Changs on the way out.
And then sat at the hotel for a couple hours, called the game and drove back last night.
So it was a quick in and out.
And I had to charge my car because I, I, Tesla, so I, you know, was big head there with you?
Were you in between the benches with Robert?
I did talk to Robert, the mascot, but I, I, uh, I,
I was up top because I was working with the young guy named Matt Cullen because Gordon Miller was calling the game, the Leaf game last night.
So I was working with a new guy.
So when we work together, the young guy is side by side.
And there's no room in between the benches when Rob Ray is standing there.
Like he is an absolute monster of a human being.
They're putting him in the Buffalo Hall of Fame, which I think is great.
You guys know I love Rob Ray.
I think his son was there or he had a kid with you.
Yeah, Robert.
Okay, good looking kid.
Like, it just like, blonde-haired, yeah.
Yeah.
Anyways, he walked by, had a little chat, stop and chat with him.
And then, you know, shook his hand.
And it's like, his hand is like him handing you five bananas.
It's so, his hand is so big.
Like, it's like it just swallows your hand.
Like, he's such a monster.
But what a good guy.
God, I love that guy.
And of course, Marty Biron was there.
Had a good chat with Marty.
Did you get to talk?
Okay, you think I talk, this guy.
Man, Marty was, he was on fire last night.
But it's good.
It's always nice to see, I didn't get to see Duffer or anything, you know, the main crew
because I just kind of did my thing and got out of there.
But, you know, I was happy for Buffalo in that sense because I don't like to see teams
that are trying to turn it around struggle.
And I really like Tage Thompson.
I really like Alex Tuck.
I think Dylan Cousins is going to be a really good player.
I just think he struggled early on.
I think UPL, the goaltenders, kind of come around as a guy that they can trust.
He's big, man.
Has Levi been better?
You know what?
My comparison of Devin Levi is he's a young Mark Andre Fleury as far as when you
watch Mark Andre Fleury early in his career, he was really busy, just active and fast and
explosive. And as Flurry got better and more experienced, it just his game just kind of shrunk
and just came together. You could still be explosive, but you don't have to go out of position
and open holes and, you know, look small in the net. And, you know, I look at Levi and I've watched
him play. I like his skill set, but I think he's really explosive and he almost creates holes for
himself because he's trying so hard. I want to stop this puck. I want to do this instead of letting it
come to him. But I think he's a good young goaltender. And he could be a guy if he
settles in that maybe, you know, the next Olympic time around, not this one to be kissing up on
it. I like him. Pinder shaking his head. There's no bloody goalies. We're talking about
freaking Aiden Hill and Sam Mott. Here's my, do you want my argument?
What the hell's happened to all our goalies? Is a disaster. Do you want my argument for this?
Okay. Because I actually had an argument to somebody about argument debate the other day.
So first and foremost, I need to go on record and say, I don't have much passion for this four nations thing whatsoever.
I'm sorry.
I know we're in the media.
I know we need to build it up.
It's best on best in that.
The best goalie is not playing in it because he's Russian.
Arguably, the best player might not be playing in it in Kuturov.
He's Russian.
Drysadle's not playing in it.
He's a top five player in the world.
So it's not really best on best.
It just happens to be four countries that are playing against each other.
Secondly, people are like, okay, Canada, they are the worst on paper when it comes to goaltending, okay?
Because the other goleys are better and they're big game goaltenders.
And I'm going, okay, well, define big game goaltenders because, hold on, somebody's ringing my front door.
I can't go.
So big game goaltenders are guys who have won before.
Okay?
Well, if you look at Jordan Bennington is the one.
He's won and he's played on the biggest stage and he won a game seven of the Stanley Cup final.
Aidan Hills won a Stanley Cup.
Darcy Kemper's won a Stanley Cup.
I think Mark Andre Fleury should be in the conversation as well because he might be a great mentor.
And in a short tournament, maybe he can call back some of the old magic.
So there's a fourth Stanley Cup winner.
Those are all Canadian guys that have played on the biggest stage, which is the Stanley Cup final.
Because when Rhett and I were kids, when we were playing road hockey, we didn't go, okay, who's going to be in the final for the Four Nations Cup?
We played game seven Stanley Cup final.
That's the biggest plan.
You did for the Canada Cup, though.
Come on now.
Like, let's not get too crazy here.
I don't want to see Bedard play with McDavid at least once, right?
We can at least agree on that.
I get it.
But you're, I was being a smart ass, but you know what I mean is, is.
is the biggest stage in hockey is the Stanley Cup finals.
It's nothing else.
It's nothing else.
So these guys have been on the biggest stage and had success.
Now, their teams have helped them.
No top 10 goal in there, Jamie.
You know there isn't.
There isn't.
You rank them and they're not.
None of those guys are top 10.
You're right.
But they don't have to be a top 10 goaltender.
They have to play like one.
Yeah.
They're not going to lose a term because of goaltending.
They're good enough to win with just okay goaltending.
Right.
Yeah, like, I just, they're not good goalish.
They're okay.
They'd be the weakest goaltenders of the whole tournament.
But, but the, but the most decorated.
That's the craziest part.
Like, technically, the most decorated.
Your team awards were good collectively.
I don't want to cheer for Jordan Bennington.
He seems like a Richard, right?
Like, Aiden Hill was gotten for a fourth rounder.
Things happen.
Like, I get it, but I, you know what?
It ain't sexy.
So you need David and Crosby and McKitt.
You need.
as Canadians, we want the best players and the best goalies and the best defenseman and not
like.
And I better like them.
I almost,
I don't know if they saw this CSN list,
but they had Chris Tannib as the seventh.
And I was like,
okay,
like now,
now we're trying to be,
we're,
we're going to think ourselves right to screw ourselves right into a hole here.
There was no town of Buzzman who's in Calgary.
You know how it works.
He's a leaf and all of a sudden.
We had Drager on last week.
I think that was maybe his submission.
He's like, yeah, I took it pretty hard when we threw Tannis.
Okay, so I missed the day on my show because I was calling the game and it came back.
And they're like, oh, we're going to go over Craig Button and Mike Johnson's list.
And Chris Tannock, I was like, what?
And they're like Chris Tannif is on the seventh on the list.
And I go, I love Chris because this isn't a, we all love Chris.
Of course.
Great defender.
Oh, he's not the best defenseman on his.
team.
Morgan Riley is, you know, Morgan
in a tournament
where you need to be high-paced
and skate. And I understand that.
If you're doing the Rob Zomner picket, hey, we need a
penalty killer for the Olympics, then let's do this.
But I'm like,
I could think of five guys
just off the top of my
head that I would place in front
of that. So again, if you're
going back to Rett,
if you're choosing the best of the best,
doesn't matter where they slug.
I agree with you, Pinder.
I agree with you, Radd, as far as, you know,
the goaltending would be fourth in this tournament out of four on paper.
But my argument is still, the person came at me saying,
well, they need to have, you know, this is the biggest stage.
They need to have success.
And I was like, well, they kind of happen.
It just, on paper, none of them are a top 10 goaltender right now.
I just, I used it last week.
I want to use it again.
It's a bit of an Albert scenario.
Albert, Albert.
Albert, Albert, he's going to come back, he's going to play well.
Do you remember Albert?
Do you know the Albert reference, James?
I played the commercial at the end of the show last week.
Remember the Canadian Tire commercial where poor Albert?
Yes.
The last guy picked at the outdoor rink.
Yeah.
And he found a guy on a lawn chair that wasn't even going to play.
They picked him ahead of Albert.
Yeah.
Well, that's so you're thinking his name on his jersey and he's a big winner.
So you think that out, so what you're saying is like,
Aiden Hill is going to be the Albert.
Albert, Albert Bennington.
MVP of the tournament.
He was already the Albert for the year in the NHL.
He was added for a fourth and was what, a cup MVP?
Like, that's Albert.
Yeah.
But he wasn't, it wasn't a guy from Port, you know, Port Codham who had 40 rum and
coax and wore a jersey to the game.
And we're like, go stand in the net there.
Like the guy is, you know, he.
He was one of the top 80 goals in the world.
Probably 60 to 80.
You would have slaughtered in the beginning of that year.
And he ended up being what, an MVP of the?
Jordan Bittington just took over.
second place in the St. Louis Blues
All Time Wins category last night.
Yeah.
And he'll pass Mike Lute and be the
winningest St. Louis Blues
goal. I think what people
don't like is Jordan Bennington
the personality. You know, that's what
it is. They don't like the... I thought
it was funny the other day where
he had that sly look on his fate.
Like, they were giving up an eight spot
and it was ugly in Ottawa and he's
starting to push around. He's at the
bench and he's trying not to
laugh, trying not to laugh. But he's laughing going, I'm going to be an idiot here because,
you know, Joe Hoffer forgot to put his pads on tonight. Now I got to go clean this mess up,
because that's what it was. It was a mess. That was an ugly one. But honestly, I don't disagree.
I think the Canadian goaltending, I think we're in a downtrend cycle. But there's some good ones.
And it just, you need one that's special to push through and we'll see who it is.
I don't know.
We've seen guys get better as they get older, you know.
Anthony Stollars put up a shout out last night.
The guys never played more than 28 games in a regular season.
He started 23.
That's the max he's ever started.
He's the Toronto Maple Leaf's number one goalie right now.
Like, you know, and he's 30 years old.
You know, I saw guys get better when they were 29, 30, 30,
31 because they understood the mental part of the position.
So we'll see.
I mean,
goaltending is a weird position.
Unless you're really special,
everybody else is just kind of really good.
That's it.
What if we got weaned you off the rum and coax?
Could we get,
because you're a Canadian.
We got your burger certificate.
As you get older,
you're wiser and you're more composed.
I can barely touch my toes.
And I never had flexibility when I played.
I haven't had brown liquor since April.
20th, 2003.
White rum.
It's specific for it not to be something.
Wanda. One was good because I enjoy my life.
There's not a problem with that.
But yeah, I mean, I don't know.
Could you imagine me making a skate save in today's world?
Get out there.
I'll never forget this.
This would have been 2003, 2004, something around there.
I'd explain for the flames.
And it was the second period.
We were playing the L.A. Kings.
and somebody went to share it was like Ziggy Pulpsey or something took a slap shot from center ice
and I just stood there and I directed it to the corner kind of like just rolled my stick and with my
skate out and kicked it to the corner and Robin Riggier was coming back to get the puck and he screamed
skate save old school hockey and I laughed because I was like oh my God I just made a skate save
Now, this was 20 years ago when they were still just kind of inching their way out of the game
because Marty Breder, I think, was still making them.
But man, oh, man, I'll never forget that as long as I live.
Like Reggie screaming that as he was coming back into the defensive zone, skate save, old-time hockey.
I'm like, yeah, pretty much did that.
It was a shot from so far away I could have, I cleanly made a skate save.
Heal toe and away we go.
Exactly.
Get that heel out there.
Okay, we kept, you got one, I got one more.
Retro, go ahead.
I just want to say next week, when are you on cribs?
Because we had the wide shot of your house.
This is very, very fancy.
Yeah.
Like, I thought you were in TV and like a backup goal.
This is where you live?
That is my God.
I'm not allowed.
I have a little setup, but I was told by Jack, I can't have my setup.
That's true.
It's like, no jerseys, no nothing.
So I'm like, okay, I'm going to sit in my kitchen.
I would leave my kitchen if I had that.
There's the deck and the pool and all that out there.
And then this is, this is, we like space.
So there's a great room here.
So if I'm echoing, I'm yelling and screaming.
I'm in my kitchen.
Well, I wondered, is there any hardware on that mantle back there?
Do I see a trophy or some kind of a, is that the,
I don't be my kids.
I don't, I don't, I have like my office over here.
Yeah.
Like I don't, I, but my office has a jersey.
I know, I understand.
I don't think it was a shot on the backdrop.
It's just you have a very, it's a lovely.
Yeah.
Jealous.
You got to save.
It's not how much you make.
It's how much you save.
That's what it is, right?
Let me some of those fancy water bottles and get off.
There is.
I'm sending water bottles.
You never send me an address to send them to.
We'll talk to these guys.
You have a very low chance of.
Yeah.
Talk to Jackaraj once out.
I don't even know where that guy lives.
Yeah, you'll, you take the shit and abuse,
but then you go and try and make.
good, well, I don't even have what I need.
And now, because I'll let you go because you're keeping your long time.
I need to know another very important question.
P.F. Chang's, I get a lot of people don't like, I love it.
I get it's a chain.
I love it.
What's your, what's your order at P.F. Chang's.
Okay, so I've kind of done this greasy order lately, which is I.
So everywhere, because I was in Denver last week, there's a P.F.
Chang's and I order through Uber Eats all the time.
But I order kids portions so I can get more of it.
So I go with the kids fried rice with chicken because it's just egg chicken and the rice and some terriacchi.
There's no onions.
I don't like any of the nonsense.
So it's just that's what it is.
So I get the kid the kids chicken fried rice.
Then I get the Mongoli beef.
I ask them for extra well done, a little crispy.
Okay.
But the kid's portion of it.
And then I get a kid's portion of orange chicken.
And that's my go-to.
all of them come with rice and and but I like the fried rice it's a little too much to eat for lunch
but I like to just mix and match sure that's what I do at at P.F. Chang's right now and do you try and
sell it all thank you the kids are going to love this because the kids they're they just love
people embarrassing like I do this a lot when I'm on the road is I will order off the kids
menu because I have the palette of a four year old so I'm like can my son get some chicken
fingers and fries? They're like oh oh oh
like dinner for two i'm like no just for one just bring up one like and then the person comes to the door
and it's just me standing there and i've ordered chicken fingers and fries and it and it comes with
popcorn and an apple instead of anything other that the western they have they have a good iris menu
how many how many sets of cutlery do you need uh just one i'll eat with my hands it's fine my kids
the kids chicken fingers they can just use their hands it's that's what i do it's kind of a greasy
move it's not me being cheap it's i'm
I like that food.
It's plain and it's simple.
You start messing around with adults' food and they're throwing onions and tomatoes and nonsense in there.
You're like, what the hell is this?
It's all dressing and garnishes.
I don't like.
You used to go to the Mongolia grill, rice and sauce and meat.
Well, I wanted my picture on there, but you'd have to order like 50 bucks worth there.
You'd have to sit there for three weeks to get your picture on the wall.
It's terrible.
Like, where they waited?
They weigh?
Yeah, that's how you pay.
It's how much it weighs.
Oh, that's 1.8 pounds.
You just have chicken and rice and vegetables or whatever they put in that.
It was.
But it would make you think because you know you're paying by the weight.
They're going to weigh us.
Okay, what's the best bang for my buck?
What's delicious, but is yet light?
Airiaci sauce.
Don't put too many sauces in there.
It's going to weigh that.
They condemn that place.
It's not there anymore.
I think that's Sontara now, isn't it?
That's gone.
It's something different.
It's a lot.
All right.
Great stuff.
Noodles.
Appreciate you, buddy.
Thank you.
You bet.
There he is.

your crystal clear choice for home comfort.
It's putting a brave face with those goalies.
I'll tell you.
I'm looking back.
Last best on best,
2014. Luongo Price,
third stringer was Mike Smith.
I don't think he's
trying to say that it is
he admitted that it's obviously. No, I know.
Yeah. And I just want to
no one's given me a good answer. What the hell's happened to us
developing goalies? It's been like 10 years.
I don't know that there is.
I don't know that anyone can give you an answer.
I think.
Why are we falling behind the rest of the world developing
goalies? I don't have the answer. I think
do kids want to be goalies?
Do parents want their?
kids to be goalies.
Is it is it more exciting to
score highlight real goals and
like do you get more excited about
Connor Bedard and Connor
McDavid and or is it
goaltenders? I don't know
that's changed. I don't see a lack
of goalies and you know, a tiny
small window to the world I have of minor
hockey but I don't know. Yeah.
No top in guys anymore.
Pinter's pissed.
The hell's goalies.
Having a bad day.
No one likes his four nations.
No one wants to tell them.
It's going to be great.
But we just need to start doing international hockey, right?
And if the IOC is easy to deal with, then you wouldn't have this issue.
But they're not.
And so the NHL's not going to shut down their season for three weeks to go to the Olympics
and volunteer their guys and not get any financial gain out of it.
So what you have to do is build a tournament that's interesting.
This is a diminished problem.
It's the product.
It's the first step.
As long as Russia's at war, it's a political,
nightmare involving them in the tournament i don't know what you do that being i loved the candidate
cup gretsky to lose you and that's kind of what this is it was a different era and sometimes i
wonder if with our sport our talk about hoggill and our sport is not soccer the nfl has no
qualms about being the NFL.
The NBA goes to the
Olympics, but they don't
have any qualms. They're not looking
for global
you know what I mean? Best
on best. Why can't we just celebrate
what Noodle said? Game 7
Stanley Cup finals? Good as it gets.
Yeah, no, I don't think there's a lot
of people celebrating that. It's just that we used to
have these great international tournaments. Yeah, but I don't
know that they can be had anymore and I don't know
that they're necessary. It was, it was
epic because it was people
didn't use to travel like people didn't just pop over to australia like the whole world has changed
and that's a weird thing for me to say well you didn't pop over to but it was different you didn't know
what the russians were the russians weren't playing that was the thing like you had victor teakinoff this
evil coach and this team of russians you know the red army that they that they played a different
style and they were a mystery because we didn't well they all play here now yeah they're all in
they're all in the n hos part they're all the n nachel and i i i still just
think when we like how did Vancouver 2010 resonate you with you was that like a high water
hockey moment or was like yeah whatever oh my Olympics team Canada everyone's best was in the
in the NHL then nothing's changed since 2010 in terms of guys from other countries playing in
yeah but you're talking about a world cup not the Olympics and I hate the Olympics because it's
such a political bullshit thing but I do like the competition of the Olympics because of the
generation of how long the Olympics have been a big deal.
To me, that's a little bit.
If you're going to join into the Olympics, I can get behind that.
I still think it's an odd tournament.
It's like women's hockey.
Well, it's Canada versus USA.
That's not the men's skin.
There's seven, eight good countries.
I know.
Well, who's good?
I'd be Canada, USA, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic,
Slovakia.
Philly Sweden are strong.
I mean, Sweden won goal of the Olympics.
So over the last few Olympics,
that we went to.
Yeah.
Who won?
Canada won in what, 14 and 10?
The last two.
The prior one that they won in Utah.
That was in 02.
In 06, they were a disaster in Italy.
We went with an old team.
Yeah, that was.
Sweden won, I believe.
I just think that it's
everyone's time for the Russians.
It's not like they've had all the success
in Olympics or anything.
No, but that's kind of my point.
I mean, do I like the Olympics?
Sure.
But you know what?
We don't like the 06 Olympics.
We don't talk about that.
It was a disaster.
We don't talk when they went to Nagano and sat
Gratsky for, do you know what I mean?
We reminisce over the wins.
Okay, sure.
Sure.
Right, but we just have to understand that, you know,
like what 96 or 98
Nagano did in Czech Republic was incredible.
It cemented Yager and Hasick is legends
forever in their country.
Maybe the two most famous sportsmen of all time.
I don't get the shit about that, though.
Well, then you're not going to grow the game globally.
I mean, the NHL has to get good at this.
It's going to grow their game.
That's fine to think that.
How are you going to do it?
This is quite a conversation we're having.
Like, where are you making ice in Australia?
Like, if Australia is not, I keep bringing up Australia because you go there.
But if Australia is not supporting hockey and big into hockey, then does that not scream
hockey continent, like type of people that would actually get behind hockey?
They're not going to build a bunch of rings.
They've got other shit that they watch.
I don't have a lot of hope for hockey.
That's not really where I would just think you've got.
you know, six to ten countries in Europe and North America that there's a lot of interest
in growth in the sport and there's really good domestic leagues.
And to see those countries play with their best players together would be amazing to watch
because when you saw the lineup in Salt Lake and it was like, oh, my God, there's Sack.
What about 06?
Why are you talking about in Italy?
Well, I'm just, I'm, they don't have to win for it.
Like, I'm understanding that these tournaments provide great moments.
I'm not saying it has to be good for Canada or we should cancel the tournament.
That's their ludicrous take.
But we romanticize about the wins.
Those are the ones that are special.
That's why it's good.
It's because we won and we over game.
Remember the winning things in sport.
Yes.
Anyway, I just think hockey is a different animal.
It's a different beast.
Kids, it is very difficult to get involved.
And if you want to make a global, where is it growing?
Well, why are they in Finland and Czech Republic already this year, NHL?
That's fine, Ryan, but they've already follow hockey.
You're talking about globally.
That's not going to make it bigger in Finland.
Finland's already into hockey.
Well, I mean, it gets closer to the NHL brand.
It led to your revenues is the plan the NHL has.
I'm not pitching this as like you need hockey in the southern hemisphere.
That has nothing to do with my take here.
It's just we have the countries that already like it.
Let's put their best players together.
I would like to see Canada against Russia.
Right now, politically, you can't do it.
I would love to see, you know, Sorokin, Schisturkin,
and Vasilevsky,
Bobrovsky, all in the same team.
That would be insane, right?
Like, you love to see it.
Because it's best.
It's way better than an NHL game
on a Tuesday. That's why.
You'd have Bard, Crosby, McKinnon,
McDavid on the same team.
Holy shit.
I guess those are just
I'm fine with it, but I'm not
frothing at the mouth for it.
And you know what? And for,
I mean, it feels like we're ganging up
on Ryan. I don't think we've,
I guess we're not the guys.
I've never been really jacked about it.
I was jacked when they first got into the Olympic,
Salt Lake, Jerome, Sackick, that whole thing.
That was very exciting because it was fresh and new and we hadn't seen it.
And then they kept doing,
even the one after the golden goal, which was the one where they just went,
ran roughshod and just beat everybody and they won the gold medal.
It was like, oh, they won the gold medal again.
Oh, six, they got pumped.
Like even, even that one was kind of, okay, well,
it wasn't as good as, as the last time.
I remember we had, we're going to get the,
we had the kid hockey team.
We're going to get them up early.
we're going to have breakfast and we're going to watch the gold medal game.
And they won the gold medal game.
I was like, yeah, okay.
So they won the gold medal again.
But I just, I'm not looking to, it's not an I'm writer.
I feel like there is a lot of me sentiment towards it.
Like Jamie kind of brought it up.
So I don't know what to.
I like it to the Olympics.
Everyone's always down in Olympics.
And then as soon as the anthems are played and you see the athletes, everyone.
If it's the Olympics.
If it's the Olympics.
If it's not the law.
I mean,
Four nations.
I went and watched Iggy and Kipper play against each other in Toronto.
What was it called then?
The 05, the 0405.
Lockup of hockey.
Yeah.
Or was during the lockout?
Just before the lockout.
Yeah.
I don't know.
It was a made up event by the NHL trying to do what you're saying, best on best.
And it was sold out.
but no one's getting tattoos, right?
And as you said, like, there has to be history behind it.
So the first one's not going to have the Olympics.
Absolutely.
I can get behind the Olympics because of the history of the Olympics.
If this was a Canada Cup with the same trophy and the same jerseys and you went to
Copseum and you played the Russians, I think there'd be a lot more interest than what
there is now, but you have to start somewhere.
I think there would be interest, but not like it used to be.
This is not the bad old Russians that we didn't know anything about.
Yeah, the Red Army thing was a part for sure.
Yeah.
The other thing I think we've missed on is I think the two best nations in the world at the sport by a mile or Canada, USA,
the USA participation in the league by players is higher than it's ever been.
And I think we've missed out on a decade of what could have been incredible rivalry.
Like even if it's just those two and you say Sweden, Finland, do your own thing.
Go to a European tournament.
If you had a Ryder Cup, Canada, USA every four years, I think it would be unbelievable.
Because you start building those rosters, there's no weak sisters.
There's no like, how's this guy?
What's the motivational fact for these guys?
Like, if it's not an Olympic goal, it's just the best on best.
You're going to have to, like, I was actually going to ask noodles, but we took him,
kept them so long.
It was what if you're getting named to this team, are you actually happy about it?
Like, if I'm one of the guys that's the sixth defense, TANF, if I'm TANF, am I going,
yes, I get to go to the four nations, or am I going, yeah, hello, beach in Mexico,
Oh, here we come.
Like, and I've been there.
I've been in rooms, guys.
And I'll tell you what.
90% of them are going,
fuck, I wish I could go to the beach.
And no one felt that way about the Olympics, right?
So that's what you have to get it to.
You got to build it to that.
You're not going to build.
It's not the Olympics.
Like you can't.
I think you can't.
And that's maybe where we differ.
So why haven't they done?
I mean, like I think soccer, like the Olympics mean nothing and the World
comes to everything.
You can't start there.
But I think your plan should be in 20 years.
You don't need.
the IOC and the Olympics.
You have already a best hockey specific thing.
You only go to hockey cities.
You're not at 2 a.m.
in freaking Pyong Chang or Beijing.
Why is the NBA not doing it?
Because there's no countries that can compete with the USA.
It's not an interesting tournament.
Like who's the second best country in the world of basketball?
It's no good.
That's why the World Cup Soccer is great because you've got 50 nations that are really good at.
And hockey you've got like,
that's why it's good is because the whole world plays it and it's good.
You're talking about six countries.
which is better than what the NBA has to offer.
You could go play.
What's bigger globally?
Well, I'm saying the tournament would be interesting with.
That's all it is.
I mean, every time the Americans put team together, it's the dream.
You're trying to make an argument for a tournament that no one gives a shit about it.
If it's not the Olympics, you're not going to, the World Cup's great because the World Cup's been going at it for many, many, many years.
Yes.
And that's what the hockey should start trying to build.
World.
But they don't have the world playing.
You're not getting Argentina versus you.
USA in the final of a hockey tournament.
You're going to get Finland again.
There's 5 million people in Sweden. Yeah.
Great.
It's not going to be huge.
Finland has 5 million people.
So how many people in Finland will watch if they're in the final?
So what?
It's 5 million.
It's not even 100 million.
Like what are you talking about?
Oh, it's going to be huge.
For 5 million people you're talking about it's going to be a global.
So why is it huge for the Olympics?
The same team, like the same number.
Because the whole world watches the Olympics.
People that don't watch hockey are watching the hockey final.
Probably.
Do you watch fucking high jump?
Not really.
On Tuesday?
Are you watching high jumping on Tuesday?
I'll pay attention.
Do you watch it?
Yes, you do.
Gold medal.
Oh, it's on?
Yeah, I'm going to watch the pole vault.
Why?
Because it's the gold medal in the Olympics.
Yeah.
And so they have the brand, just like soccer's World Cup is the brand.
Like, that's what you want to watch.
I don't know.
I can't name a.
soccer player from Turkey, but I'll watch when it's the World Cup.
Yes. I think we sufficiently
beaten this thing to death, Dean.
You can move on. Back to you, Dean.
Oh, I don't think we have.
I feel like there's, we got weeks.
When is it coming up? February? We got a lot of time.
I mean, look, it's, it's, it's hard to hype because
I'll watch once they're on the ice, but it's going to be
like to build enthusiasm is tough.
It's an event that hasn't really.
The thing about the Olympics is that the Olympics was around before, right?
And then you're included in the Olympics.
So that's why it becomes big.
to just try and build something off to the side.
I mean, rugby does it.
You know, Canada Cup was a thing that worked really well.
I don't think it's as crazy as you guys think.
The WBC has been a tough one.
If the Canada Cup was so good, why did it end?
Because they got back into the Olympics.
They had the Canada Cup because they couldn't get into the Olympics.
And then the Olympics, well, okay, they're in.
And then that, well, okay, now this feels real.
And so now this is coming back because the Olympics
haven't had best on best for something.
Right. So it doesn't feel the same. Once you've gone to that level, the highest level possible,
to then bring it back down and say, hey, this is, this is going to be great.
It's manufactured and people can sense it and know.
Yeah, it will be until you get the games. And then you'll be like, this is actually the best hockey I can see.
And you might, then that, that's what you need to change people's mind.
It has to be a better hockey product than you can see.
It's going to be the most skilled players playing together. It's not always the best hockey.
A short tournament like that, there might be guys that despise each other trying to play together.
Like it doesn't.
Well, for sure, for sure.
Look, I don't think this tournament is going to be the one that changes everyone's mind.
It's not.
But you need to start doing something with getting the best players in the world playing against each other on a non-diluted 32-team league to, I think, show how much talent there is in the game.
Like, your fourth line would have all-stars in it.
It's going to be incredible when the game.
But yeah, in terms of enthusiasm, I get why it's not there right now.
I get it.
What is this?
That's the question people keep asking.
They've never seen it before.
It's hokey.
I mean,
what if Albert Bennington
soils himself in the crease?
Then we're really not going to
please someone be better than Bennington.
You know what I mean?
If Canada wins this thing and people and Canadians are excited,
hey, this tournament was great.
But if Canada gets bounced,
it's like, oh, so there's four teams,
a Canada's, oh, this event.
Yeah, well, from the league's office,
the best thing to happen is for the Americans to win this.
that's where you have the most to gain.
That's your huge TV audience that you're trying to engage.
Well, I know.
You're...
Brothers together with Austin Matthews, you know, the Hughes boys,
like star goaltenders, Oughtinger, Demko, Hellebuck.
Like, that's the biggest gains possible here,
aren't in Sweden, Finland, Canada.
It's if the U.S. dominates.
That's the best thing that could happen to the league revenue-wise.
I know that's what gets me going, for sure, is Batman's revenues.
No, but you're wondering why they're doing it.
Like, that's why.
I'm not wondering why they're doing it.
I get to doing it.
and I just don't know that it's like I yeah I guess do you understand what I'm calling us I just feel like if I don't know if if it's not do it or do it with four teams mid season yeah it's it's definitely not ideal but I still think it's better than nothing I know you might take the other side of that but I want to see candy USA it's been way too long Christmas is coming the time of sharing time of giving brotherhood and we're going to
try and make Christmas a little warmer and a little brighter for some people out there.
We are going to be kicking off our top shelf elf Christmas auction campaign in a couple weeks.
It's already in a way underway because we've had a couple of auctions.
We had one couple weeks ago.
That was to get to the game for a bunch of people to get to the game against New Jersey.
Now we got another one coming up here.
All the money raised from this auction is going to go to closer to home and their adopt
the family Christmas effort.
November 21, Calgary, New York,
at the dome.
This is for 25 press level tickets
and 25 food and drink vouchers.
There's so many people.
Think about that.
You had 25, you're going to the game
and you're having your popcorn and your hot dogs
and watching Schisturkin and that.
It's, whew, it's going to be a heck of a time.
But the most important part is all the money raised goes to it.
great cause. You can get in on the auction. Bid now, the website, nationgear.ca. You'll see the top
shelf elf auction link. Get in there and put your bids in. Bids been a little slow. I think it's
maybe because, Red or Brian, you say, well, they like to lurk in the weeds until the very end.
Don't put you back on a couple days. Yeah, it ends on Friday. And then we'll get you hooked up with
the tickets and the vouchers and all that to go and see the only visit until the cup final of
the Rangers in Calgary on team that's right boy it'll be a good one right flames have had the
rangers way until last year i think we'd seen shasturkin at the dome get soiled twice that's true yeah
last year they kind of put the boots to them you had the trouba hit on pelche the flames had that
uh rally and then what a loss in overtime they would just they've played some fun games lately didn't
trouba light up cadre as well yeah yeah there was two games last year yeah there's a big big one there
again, Truba in New York, because last year by the end of the season, they were really done with him.
I think it's more just the situation as salary put them in.
He's our captain.
He's making too much money.
He's slowing down.
He's taking penalties.
I don't think it's entered like darn all nurse territory, but I think we all understand that this is done once it ends.
And they've got some great young talent on defense.
Yeah, for sure.
They can't.
Snyder, Keandre Muller, Fox.
Yeah.
Yeah, Fox.
Boo Fox.
Come to the game, Boo Fox.
That's been a fun enterprise the last few years.
Nationgear.ca is the website.
Go in there and get your bids in Friday, late afternoon.
I think it's 4 or 6 p.m. somewhere around there.
And we'll get you hooked up with those tickets.
Thanks to ATB Financial once again for a very generous donation of that prize pack.
Let's do the Pinder report.
There was a Flames game last night.
We talked a little bit about it.
There were other games last night.
There are games tonight.
the return of the greatest player in the game.
Tonight.
Well,
debate apply, I suppose.
It's the Pinda Report and it's a presentation of Village Honda.
More flexibility.
It's what you need.
You go in, you look at the lot.
Well, I don't necessarily see.
Well, you're part of this wood automotive group.
So we can take a look at this,
the whole smear of cars that are within all of these dealerships.
And I have access to all of them by just sitting in this one spot.
You're my dealership for life.
You're the one-stop automotive destination for me moving forward.
That's what you'll say.
I imagine that's what you'll say.
Village Honda, Northwest Automol, VillageHonda.com, and they present.
Ryan Pinder, Ryan Pindo.
The Pinder Report.
Fellows last night of victory for the Calgary Flames in Montreal,
and a big one for the young future core of the Calgary Flames,
if that's what it's going to be.
And here's Ryan Pike, if you're what I call a, quote,
rebuild optimist, end quote.
He flames three youngest players,
Wolfs Aaron Coronado, playing key roles in a dramatic roadwind,
has to leave you smiling a little bit.
It was a fun one.
We were at Richmond's pub,
and there were a lot of Barneys that turned out,
and we're quite pleased with two points further out of the basement.
It's probably exactly that.
The great young players on this team making strides
that you have to be excited about.
We'll deal with the draft stuff later.
And exciting plays.
It's not like they were, oh, they look good,
they were involved in the play.
You could score on goals, big goals, big moments.
Awesome.
I agree with part.
I know it wasn't easy for his party to move down the hall to the Wranglers,
but it was only one stop.
And if he wants to go ahead and be a legitimate top nine scoring winger,
that's a real good place to pick up from the H.O.
One of the things, because I know we did the show last night,
we never got, but I just reading online and saying the sentiment being,
is this the last time that you'll see,
Coronado go to the American hockey league? Is he here and now here for good?
You'd hope so, right? I think it would be a significant setback if he did have to go back.
I'm trying to think of, you know, you just kind of need to.
He's past, he's past Hansik now, who we'll get to in a moment. Yeah. That's clear. He's past
Pelchay now. That's clear. And Manth is hurt. Like, who's taking his job that they have? Like,
yeah, that's what I don't, I don't see the situation arising. And then you're going to get to the
deadline and you're going to be a Coosmanco and a man.
the lighter. I think he's around forever, guys.
Yeah. You can't, don't, you can't
disappear. You can't look overwhelmed
or like the stage is too big because then
there's no problem
sending him back to the American Hockey League. But
when you have that shot
and I would think you're gaining
the trust of the coaching staff, we're seeing
them out late stages of hockey games.
You hope, like you say, you hope
it is, but
come on, kid, dig in. We're happy for you.
This is a, and it had to feel
good for him, after like you say. That would have
been a humbling walk down the hall.
Yeah.
And that's the spot you're going to learn some things too.
You're going to play against top opponents, like learn from Blake Coleman.
A lot of D-Zone starts.
If that's a role he can thrive in, that's not unlike the FroLeaks,
magic panties and kichucks of the world, that usually means better things are coming
to.
There you go.
Okay.
We'll move on to the next one.
It's the overtime game winner.
Dean, you said last night, that's about as fast as you could score a goal in overtime.
And you're not wrong.
It was originally recorded as six seconds.
officially it goes down to seven seconds at overtime.
Here are the fastest goals ever in NHL history.
Kempay, five seconds.
Nealander, Athanasiu, Ovechkin, Legu, Sundin,
six seconds.
Then you got Coronado Baneers,
Patiairetti, Duchenne, and Gagne at seven.
That's, it's tidy work to score seven seconds in any period.
Fastness in flames history, and like you say,
it's tied for second all time.
I don't know either you can't do it much faster than that.
Be hard.
I mean, I'm sure there's some weird circumstances.
Yeah, like you got to knock the guy stick out of his hands and then cut through.
He's got an empty net.
It's a five and a throw out of no.
And then you got to, yeah.
Dustin Wolf, another solid night.
Here's an interesting little stat, the pike bomb, pike bomb at five on five this season.
Safe percentages are sorting column.
Dustin Wolf, fifth in the league.
That's a great sign.
I know that the penalty kill has not been great.
And that's usually where, you know, when it's rolling at 72%.
That'll hurt your save percentage.
a bit. But Dustin Wolf
in the sport of hockey five on five
has been excellent this year. Don't let anyone else tell you
otherwise. In one bad game, you got torched by
what, Utah?
Yeah. Pretty good.
Oh, boy, Wolf.
Boy, Wolfie. Standings
will start in the West. What do we got for
flames? Well, we got a wild card
spot. There it is.
They are officially tied on points
of Vancouver who will two games in hands.
It third in the Pacific. Blues are one
back. They hold a wild card. Oilers in action
tonight, they can move into a tie with the flames with a victory over the golden knights.
We said second in the Pacific.
And as you had noted yesterday, Dino, they've had some trouble on the road.
Yeah, weird.
Not surprising they're good at home.
They were good at home right out of the gate.
And they are again, I think it's one eight.
The bag is flew, eh?
Yeah, I guess that's what it is.
But they are 03 and 1 on the road, 8 and 0 at home.
So maybe it's all the, you know, maybe it's a bunch of party animals.
We don't, we don't, at home, we got to stay in.
We don't go gambling and stuff.
But boy, when we get to,
when we get to Winnipeg.
When we get to Edmonton, all bets are off.
I tell you, we tried to have a good night,
but I looked out and saw Portage in Maine, we had to leave.
I was at the mall last night.
Agnes.
They were closing down the mall.
They had to kick me out.
Yeah.
I was having the time.
Flames will play Boston tomorrow.
Dino.
We'll have more on the bruntz tomorrow,
but they're clinging to the final wild card.
We'll see.
It's awfully compact in that Atlantic division.
That's the point that Frank on Monday and noodles today have both made.
It's just an elite division.
And there's going to be some major roller coasters in the fan bases involved.
Yeah.
It's two playoff teams tomorrow.
Another Stanley Cup preview potentially.
Here's your schedule.
Beyond Boston, it is Buffalo on Saturday in 11 a.m. matinee.
And then it is a troublesome part of the schedule.
Retsman flagging this one.
home first game back against the Kings and then back to back out on the road two games in two different cities
and two nights I'll play Vancouver on the Tuesday so all the way from the east in Buffalo to home versus the Kings Monday and all the way to the West Coast on two this is not ideal where's your constipation radiation
penetration where's the fear and concern here I need a lot of drugs and
paraphernalia.
Red lights.
Ear lights.
Nose filters.
Role blockers.
I imagine they have all those things, though.
They want them, yeah.
Or I could just jump in the lake again.
It was real close.
Or a cold, pardon.
Last night, Vancouver.
Hey, they're going to Vancouver.
Just go to the ocean there.
That would showy.
Just hop in there.
Great you go.
Last night, first pro goal for Sam Hansick.
How about that?
Ranglers would lose.
Have a look, though.
Down 2-0 to the baby oilers.
Looks like William Stromgren gets a piece of it, sends it to Cairns,
rifles it over the net.
Morton puts it through the paint and they score.
Santa percent of the call.
Hansick wearing 42, his first pro goal set up by Hank Horton, Sam Martin.
Love Dr. Seuss.
Really do.
Think he was a normal dude or not?
I was wonderful.
Oh, he was whacked out on all.
I feel like rolled all he'd be whacked out too.
Seuss?
Oh,
he's a dopeer.
Yeah.
Well,
it was it was Robert Munch?
Is that his name?
That guy's books.
I don't know.
Well,
you know,
he was high as a kite.
Yeah,
makes sense.
Yeah.
Raffy?
That guy.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Now,
but you know what?
I'll say,
it stops with Mr.
Dress up.
Yeah,
we can't.
No shit talking Mr.
Dress up.
I mean, he was hanging out with Casey and Finnegan and some, you know, the tickle trunk.
But other than that, seemed appropriate.
There was always a stand up guy.
I heard Thomas the train, huge lush.
Yeah.
Just massive boozehound.
Like I went on the road, you wouldn't see him for weeks.
Oh, yeah.
Just bust my bumpers or whatever the hell he would say.
It's been a while since we've had the Thomas the train in the house.
Going deep in the archives there.
Yeah, I'm trying to dig for it.
NBA for the Wranglers.
Another one against Bakersfield.
They'll play in front of maybe a thousand people at the dome.
It's not.
Oh, support the boys.
Supportable.
Go get them.
Playing well.
Try there.
Go get them.
Good team.
Yeah.
Tread call.
Still looking sharp.
I'll tell you what I saw.
I saw an interview with him.
That dust.
Honestly, he strikes fear in me through a computer, like through a TV screen.
But also, he's yet seems like the lovable character in a Western.
Like, as long as he's on your side, you're not working.
On your side.
I'll never double cross you.
You know what it is?
Don't sass Trent calling.
No.
He's the sheriff.
It's the Wranglers and he's the sheriff.
Yeah, I would limit the amount of sass.
I'm firing out if Trent calls around.
I would say don't sass the sheriff.
Don't sass the sheriff.
But I did not shoot.
Baby sass the deputy.
What do we got?
Well, scary last night.
This happened while we were at scary.
at Richmond's pub,
Dylan Holloway, Calgary boy,
look at the shock
it deflected, Rhett,
off the stick of his teammate,
missed his throat,
but caught him right on sort of the collarbone area
beside his throat,
like did not hit,
this could have been disastrous.
We didn't know he was,
you actually pointed out to me,
rat the, I think they carted him off the eye.
Well, I mean, he skated for about another 15, 20 seconds,
finished his shift,
went to the bench,
and then ran,
into some difficulty. And yeah, they
stretched him off the
off the bench.
Good news. Parents are with them
at the hospital. Everything's okay.
Airway unobstructed. And what a great
site today. He's back at practice
with the blues. You love to
see that. Yeah. Sporting
a big red mark
on his collarbone throat area.
Scary guys. You think about this game
and how many thousands of games
there are a year.
We are so fortunate we haven't had
sort of that Clinton Malarchic nightmare thing
happened for decades.
And of course, St. Louis went through it with Jaybo.
Remember Jay Bowmeister had that episode
as well. So one of my
great teammates this year had
had to go to the hospital. Puck in the throat.
Yeah. I don't like that at all.
Avalanche, boys,
they're starting to put it together a little bit
returning some bodies to health,
but really it's just the stars that have been carrying
them. McCarr left last night's game, but had two
assists before he did. And Nathan McKinnon had five
assists. Both of them have extended their season opening point
streaks to 13 games. What?
13 game point streaks for a pair of teammates.
Yeah. And McKinnon, as for his, 25 points
through 13 games. Tidy. Second time he's done it, 13 games
to open a season. Wainer did it four times. That's insane.
As for McKinnon himself,
six goals, 19 assists.
with five last night for 25 points.
And how's he doing this year?
Well, he's graded everything.
Yeah.
His own time controlling the puck.
Entries successful, slot passes, slosh shots.
Always second there.
Pick it up, bud.
And points he leads the way to.
He is the defending Hart Trophy guy.
And it doesn't help David's case missing a few weeks.
It's his to lose at this point.
Hope McCar's okay.
He missed the second half of the second period.
Took one shift in the third and then didn't play the rest of the way.
Bednar says tweaked something.
So hopefully it's nothing too serious.
If he came back and tried it at least for a shift in the third,
you'd hope it's all right.
But hope he's good.
Lighter slate tonight.
Let's take a peek at the NHL action.
As we see just three games,
Pred's got to get her going here.
Barry Trott said some things yesterday.
I don't know if you saw it, Dean.
He said, yeah, if this thing doesn't turn around,
I'm working on our rebuild plan,
i.e., I'll just put these guys back on the trademark that I say in summer.
Probably don't know what he wants to do,
but he's, I think there's some motivation of this group wants to stay together.
Yeah.
I mean, they're better than this.
Those, that comment from O'Reilly, this is maybe the worst game I've ever played,
this worst game we've played.
That's not a great opponent, though.
Washington has been, feels like they've been kind of over their skis,
scoring goals playing well.
They've been great.
Yeah.
Yeah, full marks to Washington.
We all had them taking a step back.
The other game, Detroit at Chicago, it's Patrick Kee's, Patrick.
Cain returning to his old stomping grounds, I believe,
his only prior visit, he scored the game winner.
And McDavid will be back as the Oilers host the Vegas Golden Knights.
Knights struggling on the road.
And the Oilers, I believe, around 500 without McDavid.
So there you go.
There's the Fridge bomb.
One view.
I wish I could get a few more.
Oh, yeah.
Either that or I was right on that one.
Nerd alert.
We'll move to Calvary FC.
They're hosting the CPL final.
Saturday 1 o'clock at Atco Field.
There it is. It will again be stinking forge against the calves.
And you're also going to be live coast to coast on CBC Sports,
which is a treat for this league that does not have a TV deal,
only a streaming deal.
It's going to be fun, fellas.
And as for Forge and Calvary, it goes way back.
This is year one of the CPL on the left.
There's Tommy and Bobby, Bobby Smyronitis, Tommy Wilden Jr.
And then on the right, a few more graze for Tommy, a little salt for wisdom.
Well, Bobby's been working on that beard since 2019, I think.
Stinking Forge.
Get over it, Bobby.
Bobby.
What are we doing?
What's going on here?
I can't grow it on my head, so I'm going to grow it.
We're not fooled.
It's getting cold.
That's fooling us, Bobby.
We're in a toque.
What are you doing?
Not fooled, pal.
Should be a fun one on Saturday.
Well sold out, but there are some hopping up on resale.
If you're keen, just going to cost you a bunch.
Also, I might have a CBL commissioner on Friday.
He'll be in town doing the media rounds.
Tomorrow's awards banquet night.
A big showcase weekend for the CPL.
Tommy's got all his trade secrets in that notebook there.
He's got two hands.
Bobby's looking at it.
He's like, if I could just steal that note,
my precious, the precious.
He's got the caramel milk secret in there.
What's in there, Tommy?
Secrets.
It's the kernels.
Herbs and spices in there.
When you told you're better,
her haves and our roommates what was up last night.
Did you just say, sorry, you're going to be out.
I've got dinner with the fellas.
What did you say?
I don't report back.
Just do what I damn well put.
Dean, you said you hardly talk to you.
Yeah, she sent me a message.
She's like, hey, do we have, I'm at my thing.
I don't know.
Oh, right.
Was that tonight?
I just noted that, you know, just out having dinner with the fellas.
Right.
This is what that looks like, right?
Delicious, yeah.
Nothing, nothing untoward, babe.
We're just going to have a bite to eat.
They're not to have a little bite.
Yeah.
That's for dessert there.
Does that look like Jameson?
Yeah.
What's a thick steak, isn't it?
Good on.
Boys are dumb.
We know that.
What else do we got to proving the case that, you know, males, we can be a bit of idiots.
Yeah, here we out.
Look, we got to be found a jugs machine.
Well, what do you got to do?
You got to start launching shit in the jugs machine.
Sure you do.
Oh.
Oh.
You got to move.
Yeah.
feel like he was ready
and I feel like that's got to be
about max output for the jugging machine
I got the jugs cranked up to a Honda they got her
they got her cranked up yeah
couldn't even his hands in front of his face
cheese
you know like girls can be a little odd too
they love their little
dogs that fit in purses the yappy
little let's let's go that I believe this is the shoveler
dog got a little stinky so you got a little
little swim.
That serves her right.
Yes, it does.
Throwing a dog in there.
It's good for the goose.
It's good for the gander, right?
Now, this, this looks like an old, you, you graduate from boy to dumb adolescent into man.
And when you're a man, I make sure you develop trucks in park.
Not ideal.
Not he got to hurry here.
Oh, geez.
No.
Oh, that's not the way the wrong.
Road goes.
Oh.
Long lines of the tree.
Went down again, eh?
No sense.
Hurt yourself.
You're not stopping it.
Except defeat.
Put it in park.
Well, you know, I mean, back down.
Have the front tires on the trailer.
Yeah.
Oh, boy.
Just your brain.
This guy's an idiot.
Lots of the clothesline here.
Here we go.
Oh.
He, yeah.
He's trying to Superman swing that thing.
It didn't work.
It's not work.
No.
Finally, Dean's been cheating ahead looking at the videos come up next.
What do we have next, Dean?
Why don't you tell us?
Oh, I look forward to this.
It's titled, cute puppy.
Cute puppy, let's go.
That I'm totally in for this.
This should be great.
So this is from one day when I was vacuum in my room,
when I was living in Australia,
and I vacuumed behind a cushion that was on my floor,
and sucked up a funnel web spider,
which is one of the most good spider's in the world.
And this is a pretty big one.
It was just in my bedroom.
I started to cry for about an hour
and I didn't sleep in my room for three days.
So that's on Australia.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
That spider is huge.
That spider is huge.
He was just minding his own business,
sitting behind a couch.
Hang out with your pillow in your bed.
No big deal, guys.
Tourism Australia.
Proud sponsor here on the line.
I'm supposed to do.
There is your Pind Report on a Wednesday, fellas.
Just throw out the whole that.
Thank you.
Just here.
Accenerate it.
So did you empty it out?
No, it just did all hit the trash.
It's gone.
Burnton.
Village Honda.
Your dealership for life.
Maybe it's time for that service.
Maybe it's time for a new vehicle altogether.
Or maybe it's just time to go and talk footy with our buddy Anthony.
He's excited for Saturday.
I'll tell you that.
Yeah.
Used vehicles.
New vehicles.
Soccer chat.
That's what they're good at up there.
It's your dealership for life, village honda.com.
Jets won again last night, eh?
They're good, but they beat the Uts.
The hockey team.
Three Zip, Halebuck, 21 save shutout.
It's too easy.
21 on Hullabuck.
12 and 1, four straight wins.
Kyle Conner's streak is over.
He had that point streak going, 12 games, 19 points.
You blew it?
They might be good.
Oh, they're good.
No?
Regular season, good, Dean.
They won the division last year, right?
Like crazy?
Then they go, what, pump, or do they finish second?
Pinder, do you need a...
I'd love to be milking a huge hangover today, nursing one,
but it's just not the case at all.
I'll call them yesterday.
Incredibly disappointing.
What else do we have last night?
The freaking sharks of...
one four or five.
Overtime.
That's good for them.
Hey, you don't need to lose all the time.
Mix in a few wins here anywhere, you know?
We didn't mention it on the flames, but the Manta left that game too, right?
I think we believe.
That's correct.
Yeah.
You got into it.
Antony.
Antony, Matt.
Which then, so what are you going to do if he's, you're on the road, right?
So you got to get somebody to Boston.
Rooney was scratched.
You've got to say 12, but you'd love an extra body.
Yeah.
And take posthal and throw him onto the Hubert O Sharon Govich line.
Maybe.
Yeah, that's where I've got him here.
Probably what you do.
Yeah.
Then you go fourth line, Rooney, Kirkland, Lamborghini.
Yeah.
Who would they call up?
Who would you call up?
Well, if you're going to go down that road, maybe it just get Klavka back.
I'm going to find out what's,
wrong with mantha before i'm calling do it yeah no you need to know you need a body but yes we need to know
not need a body he might play i need to know i need to know yeah baby girl what i need to know i hope that
doesn't get us flagged because i'm that that good really on uh on the note there so yeah sharks win
over the jackets in overtime canucks they went again six one and one of their last eight for the old
uh conuckleheads out there you're doing it with lankle heads out there doing it with lankos
And she loves guys.
They're going to get Demko at some point in theory.
Quinn Hughes, three helpers, fastest Kinnuck ever to hit the 300
assist mark.
Impressive.
And what was he?
The fourth fastest D-Man ever?
Third.
Bobby Orr, Brian Leach, Quinn Hughes.
That's a good list.
Decent.
Jeez.
We taught, because we did the power rankings yesterday.
Is that yesterday we did the power rankings?
Really got into it.
And I don't know where we put.
the Kings, and I still don't know where we put the Kings, and I don't know what to think about
the Kings, but they beat the Wild. The Wild had won three straight and seven of eight. Five
one Kings. Yeah, they got to Gustafson last night. Well, Trevor Lewis, former flame, forever
a flame, two goals. Big Save Dave in there. Kings are eight, three, and three, they won five
of seven. Still don't know what to think about them. They got Ritt Dog in that. Big Save,
Big Save Dave, right?
That's who it is.
That's great. Yeah.
Dave printing.
Careful.
I just know we had kind of moved
that big save thing over to
Vladar. I couldn't remember how that worked.
Did you see Torts
last night after the
after the match?
This was a back and forth one. They ended up falling
6-4 where they had multiple points.
1-0-2-1, I believe.
Nait just gets the game winner with 31 seconds
left, then an empty netter, 6-4-Caroline
over the flyers. Torts was not
talking.
Yeah.
Yeah. No.
And then just walked away.
Fortorts.
They're not good yet.
Connect has been good, though.
I like Connectney, boy.
I just re-upped them.
That's a shame.
You would have been a good.
Two goals, two assists.
Heck of a night.
Yeah.
I believe if, and I can, who's to say?
But I feel if you go back in time,
the Connecting may have been a flame.
Had they had the first round pick that was sent in the Dougie Hamilton trade.
You mean the Lindholm-Bennepin trade?
Right.
That's what it was.
Right.
The pick that they used there, I do believe that they had Kinecti in the crosshairs.
So I get my ears right or wasn't the original Douggy Hamilton trade?
No, I think it was the original one.
Yeah, okay.
The Boston.
The Leafs went.
I think that's how Boston had those.
Isn't that how Boston got those?
Oral and, uh, Shinishan three in a row.
And then the next three off the board were like Kyle Connor, Thomas Shabbat and
Matthew Barrasaw, swing and a mess.
Look at you.
You're getting good at this, dude.
Yeah, there's some peach rally tie-ins there.
So I had to remember that one.
I see.
There it is.
He was running amateur for them at that point.
That makes sense.
Uh, we have something called the super chat.
And I don't know how it works.
I don't know how you get involved.
but we saw some last night and there's occasionally
people will pop up so they've made a donation.
They've spent some hard-earned money.
They choose how much it is.
But we feel then obligated.
If you're going to drop some coin to get into the chat,
the least we can do is chat to you about it.
So we'll go.
I'll be able to grab the first one here.
Oh, Billy Holden out of boy, Billy.
$4.99.
Appreciate you.
Matthew M.F. Coronavis.
his hands in tight ability to pump the brakes and be shifty and that it's like a like a
like barf emoji but it's so sick is that what he's doing that I guess sick man sick in a positive
way yeah not in a jack way yeah no jack yeah that's yeah how are you feeling I never mind I
probably should even talk to him put him on the spot but he's not wrong he look this is a good
spot for him on the left side I'm gonna spin off the wall he loves that spinnerooney
He does.
And then wires it.
He's got about 20 more of those this year.
Great. Hit 20. That'd be fun. He's a four already, right?
Are you buying 20?
I'll buy 20.
Last night was game number 13.
Wasn't he in the minors?
For one game. But he missed a few flames ones. I think he missed the road trip.
Miss two. He's only played 11, Dean. Do the math on that.
Yeah. Let's go.
Yeah.
So am I selling him short?
Are we going to, no, that's a 24-goal pace,
but he doesn't get those games back that he missed.
That's right.
I think he should be flirting with 20.
That's a great call.
All right.
Look who's back in here.
Oh, Billy Holden.
Money to burn.
William Holden, that's why,
with the Hubie Uighur-Caudry cons,
this could be a Minnesota wild Parisé contract.
This could be a wild Parisé-s-s-sus-souder cap-fed and state.
stuck in the middle.
So I think what Billy's getting to here,
old Billy Hold,
not loving the long-term big money extensions.
So here's going to be fine.
You can get out from under that if you wanted to.
The others, I have different concerns.
Codry, it's the term.
He's worth the money.
And Hubey, it's just bad in many more ways.
Term, money, and the way it's structured.
It's a triple threat of awful.
You can have one.
Weaker's not an issue.
Yeah, I don't, I don't.
Yeah, weaker's been fine.
Good, good players.
deserves some don't.
Well, he's making a sense of change.
If he's a free agent now, he's going for seven, eight.
Like he had 20 goals last year and he's a top pair, top pair defenseman.
You could move him if you wanted.
Yeah.
Yeah, you could go some Nato or something.
I'm hearing some rumblings that may be looking for some better options as far as a partner
for McKenzie Weaker.
Not Miro, hey?
That maybe Miramanov is.
The thing is, there's a really easy.
easy guy to put with
weir. It's great, but then
the rest of your decor looks
like fecal matter.
I'm playing with Rasmus Anderson, but then
what's the rest look like?
Ball and company.
Yeah, I feel like that's the
Anderson Ball.
Right? Ball. They want to, there's
maybe some chemistry that they're having. Just wondering
if maybe on that second pair,
if there's a, uh, another answer.
That's what I'm hearing.
A hall, maybe. I don't know.
That's a lot for young Rett.
Feels a lot, yeah.
Oh, you know what though?
I like him.
He gives you everything he's got.
Yeah, no, he's a perfect third pair guy.
I think he's great.
That guy was on waivers and it's like he is great at his job.
He's a perfect six right now for this team.
And maybe in the new year, it's a guy like Bristevich that will get a chance to play.
They got lots of right shot guys in the system all of a sudden.
Maybe weigs needs more of a steady.
Weigs, you know, go do your thing.
I'm going to hold a fort here.
I really had that.
I mean, is that?
Maybe a little?
I don't know.
I'm just saying for the,
that would be how I would think would be a good fit there.
Yeah.
He's been very good without a steady guy, right?
Like he's been excellent with Miramatov,
and I don't think Miramato was necessarily good, but.
Well, maybe that's why we're hearing some things.
Anyway, uh, old Ken, Ken's doubling out,
but Rhett,
will you answer my question from last night?
Is this zone defense?
The teams are playing.
the reason for players being open in front of the goalie.
You didn't, you dodged the question last time.
I don't know shit about this zone defense.
So sure.
Yes, absolutely.
I would think in theory, every system,
if you knew where to be,
would probably have guys covered.
But I don't think they've really figured out that hybrid zone or whatever it was being called.
You're going to have to give me more detail.
And are they actually playing this zone defense?
More like freelancing to me.
I was going to say it and I think they get it.
My thought process would be if you have a defense pairing
like we saw last night where there's one guy along the wall
and another guy below and then oh Gallagher is alone in front
or whoever the hell it was.
Probably when you get back to the bench, it was like, oh shit,
I should have just stayed in front of them.
I don't know what I was thinking.
Because you were in the dry saddle was open 30 seconds in.
Yeah.
Systems problem or you were below the goal on the wall.
Well, it's shit, that's, I, I don't think the zone says take away the walls.
Right.
Yeah.
Reverse.
I don't have the puck.
Oh, dear.
That works, too.
That's the sneaky play you call for it.
The dumb forward just throws her right.
Reverse.
Reverse.
Ha!
Yeah.
So thanks for all, everybody jumping in the super chat.
It's, uh, we know it's your hard earned money.
And we promise you.
We're going to have details coming up.
We're doing something, uh, we're going to do something nice with.
I've been an update on that today, by the way.
So hopefully soon, we'll have some fancy graphics to show you.
There we go. There we go.
I'm happy to hear that.
It's a phenomenal cause.
It's going to make you happy.
Well, most people happy.
It's not been a happy day.
At least not everywhere.
Hey, I guess I'll do this here.
Just give me a sec.
Give me one second.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Argue again?
No.
Hey, Redd, how do you feel about the 4-Nate?
No.
I can't wait.
What are you going on?
It's February coming.
You know what, Rhett?
You're through your crazy.
That tournament's straight garbage and totally contrived.
You know what I'd like to talk about?
I need another pizza is what I need.
Did you get the delivery pizza to one you go?
I wish we were downtown and Jack wasn't sick because I'd buy him.
I know.
I bet you were talking a big game last night and you didn't have the patience to wait for the wheel.
I didn't have the patience.
I didn't have the patience.
I left.
You would have had a perfect wheel in the,
fridge half eaten. I don't know
that there's much better on earth than pizza out of the fridge
the next day. It is just sensational.
And you know what? That kind of pizza. If you get it from
the chain or whatever and it's that thin cardboard or whatever,
it's not good. But if you get
good homemade pizza
the next day. Damn.
So good. Now, I know Jack
is somewhere in the mix here.
You've been talking right about sending Jack some
food. Yes. For a
few days now that you were going to set Jack up
some grub. He missed out on wings yesterday.
He was kind of brokenhearted about that. We were going to send him
some food.
Has it materialized? Has there been any
now, F them.
Oh, gee.
Get his own damn food.
I have that, kids.
Tough day.
I offered. He didn't send me his address.
So clearly he's too good.
Much like you not sending noodles,
your address. I send it to him.
I'm getting some free water box.
Then you just rip them a buy.
poor jack poor jack no no no it's not poor jack doesn't want me to be part of his life so he doesn't
want me to know his address he thinks i'm just going to pop by and hang out with him and play he's got
the mustard scene every weekend you're welcome there you know that yeah right you're welcome anytime
no boys love it i saw his crew on friday my goodness what a bunch jack's got some real riff
raff in his oh it's a lot of road scholars in that mix
English teachers with this spelling.
Yeah, we're not, we're not salm in the whole lot.
That's right.

Bet 365.
We got a hell of Thursday night of tomorrow, boys.
Jack and I are already so excited.
So we got to get through today.
Mind hockey game we like.
And then we got unreal football to open week 10.
What are we got?
Ravens.
Bengals, Ravens.
Bengals, Ravens.
The worst past defense in the NFL
against Joe Burrow and company.
The runner's nice and high.
We got all kinds of props we're getting excited about.
It's going to be a good one.
I'm a favorite to win this week.
That is amazing.
And Jack is a divisional foe because, of course,
he's part of Steelers Nation.
Very intrigued.
Mike Williams.
Game changer.
That's what I'm reading.
Hey, Jack?
Yeah, they changed the game plan in New York all right.
They just threw the ball down, Lizard.
Yeah, I guess we'll see.
I don't know.
Okay.
Good, good, good good good.
Goodie to jump in there, Jack.
Bill better.

I don't know. I just feel like we can have a fun one tonight.
No lead is safe in Edmonton.
That's what I want.
Manifesting it.
Two plus points for Jack Eichel.
Two plus points for Leon Drysidal.
Point Knight in E-town.
That's what we're banking on.
don't have to like it.
That's what I got tonight, though.

What did it put guys in the spot.
You're not supposed to do that.
What's the line for that football game?
I think maybe you said it.
What was it?
Six or seven, I thought.
I'll check again.
I'm calling her up here.
Ravens home minus six.
Yeah, six.
Against the Bengals.
Six and a half I'm seeing.
Yeah, there's a bunch of...
T. Higgins still kind of not sure if he's playing.
Yeah, he's missed some time,
but that didn't stop Joe Burrow from throwing five touchdowns last week.
Mm-hmm.
Five.
Five.
Wow.
Also making things spicy, the Cincinnati Bengals allow the most yards to
quarterbacks running the ball.
That's what Lamar's great at.
Nine.
Fireworks, baby.
Yeah.
I'm excited for it.
It looks like it.
Yeah.
Of course,
and the flames are in Boston.
I'm talking about reunion night.
What was the thing you sent in the chat today?
It's nacho day.
Today?
Not a joke?
Today is not a day.
I can go eat some nachos because it's nacho day.
This was in your phone?
Yes.
Got his email on there. Come on.
Now, I've tidy that up.
Repeat.
It doesn't get to his phone.
I was going to say it doesn't answer it anyway.
It's irrelevant.
Yeah.
So that comes up every year as a reminder in your phone.
Today's Nacho Day.
Big days.
I think if you look at it until 2036,
either it doesn't expect to be alive or Nacho Day ends in 2036.
Recurring until 2036.
How do you choose to celebrate, Ryan?
I might go home and nap.
That's how I'm going to get into it.
on nacho day.
But feels like that might be all right.
Yeah.
Feels like that could be a good use of your time today.
What, where do I got tonight?
Not much.
I could do nachos tonight.
We got all the ingredients, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I can do nachos with the fellas.
We got some play date.
Kids coming over.
Boys, nachos.
Let's go.
Nacho day.
Retro.
What am I doing for nacho day?
Yeah.
If you were to celebrate,
and I know you do,
you're big on that.
Are we going out?
Are we doing it at home?
We're putting meat on there.
What are we doing?
Some details.
Well, you've got to have some meat in there.
I don't think I've got to go out this year.
Extra salsa, extra sour cream.
Don't feel like making anything at home.
Guacamole?
Yes.
I don't screw it up.
The guac?
Make a good guac.
Some crap.
What makes a good guac?
Fresh.
Yeah.
Got to be.
So you like having bigger chunks or do you want to blend it down?
I don't care.
I just want to.
more fresh.
Just has to be a ripe avocado, not something you're overripe or not ripe enough.
Yeah, it's been in the fridge and stored for, no.
Yeah.
Some lime, lime juice in there?
No.
No?
Of course there's lime juice in there.
Some tomatoes, garlic.
You ever put key limes in there?
Put garlic in there?
Get garlic in there.
Chicken or beef?
What are you putting in there?
Don't be fooled.
It's a trick question.
Still got it, kid.
See you buddies.
