Episode Date: May 28, 2026

Boomer and Rhett get into a conversation about the Conference Finals and why this round has felt like an absolute disaster from an entertainment standpoint. The Vegas Golden Knights completely steamro...lled the Colorado Avalanche with a sweep and now the Carolina Hurricanes have Montreal on the brink with a 3-1 series lead that honestly feels even less competitive. The guys talk about how lifeless the Canadiens have looked, the lack of drama in both series and whether everyone is basically just sitting around waiting for the Stanley Cup Final between Vegas and Carolina to finally start. Is this one of the worst Conference Final rounds the NHL has had in years or are we being too hard on it? Let us know what you think because right now… this feels rough.Video Link: https://youtu.be/qDbbjWmTpiY#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #vegasgoldenknights CHECK OUT OUR STUFF ⬇️BARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8📲 Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=en🎧 Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:00 Well, we're into it here and Pinder is away today. He's golfing. Beautiful day for golf. And if he were here, he would, you know, tell us how there's probably still a series. So you get, you know, it's, uh, get a couple of bounces. Oh, well, it depends. Depends on what side you're taking.
Starting point is 00:00:18 That's true. If, if we say, hey, you know, all the haves need is a bouncer to here. Oh, this thing's over. It's over. It's over. It's all you tell me. The duds. Fetch the coughs.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Stud. Thank. Oh, boy. Jack, you were right. Yeah. Are you still over with Montreal? You're dust? I am.
Starting point is 00:00:37 You've had enough. You've had your fill? I've had enough. I think, well, from all appearances, the most staunch of Hab fans have started to. You'd have to be, you'd have to be, I don't even, you know what to, without being completely insulting.
Starting point is 00:00:55 You always said, worst game seven ever, Anna-haun came to town to play the, Calgary. Highlet touted. Calgary. Yeah, that was not great. Dudd. That is very,
Starting point is 00:01:05 I've got to think that if you bought tickets to the Habs, game four, semifinals, Stanley Cup semi-finals, yes, Big, fellas. Fellas.
Starting point is 00:01:17 Fells. Montreal, 43 combined shots in games, two, three, and four. That is the few. over a three-game stretch in a playoff series ever. And two of those went to overtime.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's true. Yeah. Yesterday, the Carolina Hurricanes win by a score four to nothing. It was three-nothing in the first three in a span of 247. And I think we all just kind of, all right. What else is going on? I went and I did some painting outside, had to do some painting on my step. I did some repair there.
Starting point is 00:01:57 I did too. we got we're a shovelers do it a big production for the grade nine grad yeah yeah we're out spray painting and come oh yeah had the guy do the air rations yeah raking all that's right yeah yeah yeah don't need to sit watch that don't need to be watching this could this be the worst third round ever because on the other side where that was no scream in hell as much credit as you want to give vegas and we pump their tires galies galas more yesterday. It was not really,
Starting point is 00:02:33 I mean, I don't know. As fans, I'll ride on the edge of our seats, I want a, I don't want, but I do want a triple overtime. It matters.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Everybody. Now, Montreal is probably saying, look, if you watched us in round one and two, we gave you a lot of entertainment. It was free. We did that for you.
Starting point is 00:02:52 There were still instances where they, I don't know, periods. I'm sorry. I was all in. And I'm like, Jack has, I don't even know if Jack swayed me, but I'm all in on Jack right now because they're boring.
Starting point is 00:03:10 And I thought that this was going to be high flying, exciting, exchanging of chances. Yeah. Track meat style of hockey. And it is a dog's breakfast. And if you go back to round one, it was, yes, okay. I still think it was the best series, out of all the series that we've had,
Starting point is 00:03:32 Tampa, Montreal. The fact they couldn't put up a shot in the second period in that game and what did they have? 11 total? Yeah, they've had 12s. 13s. They found that extra shot.
Starting point is 00:03:45 If that was a one-off, okay, but this is a trend now. Well, poor Marty. They were exciting in game one. Remember Jarvis scores in the first minute, but they tie it up before it's a minute old. How much of it is Carolina?
Starting point is 00:03:58 And I'm not even shitting on them because this is how you win. Let's try and keep the other team from scoring as a put, let's just outscore the other team. You're allowed to do that. Well, you can, yeah, there was a, there always used to be arguments about that exact fact or those two points of view in our dresser in McConger. Tell me more. There were some guys that were very much in the, if we score a whole bunch.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Yeah. We're going to be a good shape here. Okay. And then there were other guys that couldn't. skate. They were like, if we don't allow any goals. Yeah. We can't lose.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Yeah. Like I overheard some of those actually sometimes. Remember the media, it's like, Peter Handles the road. Sorry, guys, you can't come in right now. Rooms close. It's a little carms is close. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:04:50 It's, it's all, I mean, you do what you want is that you go back and watch mid-90s playoff hockey and Jacques Lambert, trap and it's not exhilarating stuff no and I don't think this is
Starting point is 00:05:06 that I don't either and I'm but that's what I was going to say I'm not that's exactly my point we're not at that it's not a deliberate we're just we're not even going to try to cross the red line unless we yeah no but one team
Starting point is 00:05:22 is way better than the other way better than one the one like the the one team is not exhausted and is way better than the other. I think the team that's getting beat up on is tired, young, and done. They've played a lot of hockey.
Starting point is 00:05:40 They've played overtimes. Their goalie's been great. It's kind of their first kick at it. They were in last, but Gretzky talked about it on the, this is men against boys tonight. This is what we're looking at. I'm just sending Jack and note.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I don't want to see if we can find this clip. But anyway, to further berate the league, there hasn't, we talked, we do a show, so we talk about it lots. There's not a lot, there hasn't been a lot of, if Buffalo wasn't in, for me personally, yeah, round two would have been. Like I said it the other day,
Starting point is 00:06:20 kind of went through the brackets and kind of came away that, yes, there was that Dux Oilers thing that we were oddly invested in for whatever reason. Tampa Montreal. Tampa Montreal series was good. But out of the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 7, 8.
Starting point is 00:06:37 However any deep we are now. The one series, I think you would have circled at the start of the playoffs where you've got the most series going on. It would have been Dallas, Minnesota, and yes, it went to 6, but there were games in there were 6-1 and 5, like they weren't,
Starting point is 00:06:55 right? Like, those should have been the 2.2. teams that clobbered each other and maybe, but they weren't tight games. No. Like you can't, you could go to game seven, but if every game is a six one blowout, well, that doesn't make the series good, right? Yeah, it's in doubt, but it doesn't make, make it necessarily that competitive. It doesn't mean you're on the edge of your seat watching from puck drop till the final buzzer.
Starting point is 00:07:27 And I mean, getting ahead of ourselves, not so much that Carolina may not win the series. They're going to win this series. They're going to play Vegas, but we've got time. I don't know what to expect for next round. It should be decent hockey. Vegas will be rested. Carolina is not going to be tired. Like I got to fully convinced their winning game five.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I don't know what Montreal has that Carolina can't handle. I mean, the only way I think Montreal wins is if Carolina decides. to have another game one where Rod's going up. I see it's not. Yeah. There's not my chance. Right? Like I don't see that happening again.
Starting point is 00:08:06 So you should have two well-rested teams at least. There's not much to say. Well, find out. It's been a, it's, we just kind of threw it. It's been as lopsided as,
Starting point is 00:08:22 at least in terms of shots. And if you want to go a step further, you know, the shot attempts and scoring chances, Somebody, again, I think it was James Myrtle was talking about the high, high danger scoring, or just scoring chances. And Montreal had 14% of the, from the entire game, had 14% of the chances. And that is the second lowest in any game all season. It's as lopsided an affair as we've seen all year, certainly in the playoffs, and you could expect.
