Hello, everyone. Welcome to the podcast, Tuesday.
Is this AI?
The 3rd of June.
No, we're here.
It's actually us.
If it was AI, that's what we'd say, though.
Listen up.
Listen up.
Can I jump in?
Are you going to babble on?
You always ask to jump in.
Presentation of 365.
Get the app and be responsible and all that.
That's always.
Official partner of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Never ordinary.
And we've got the super chat.
And they give it one horn.
Okay.
donations inside the YouTube chat.
As we do this live,
we will show your comment on the program
and then move the money over to the youth centers of Calgary
by way of a donation.
That's what we'll call it.
Right.
Ret, back to you.
What day is it?
Tuesday, June the 3rd.
What happens on those days, Dean?
June 3rd.
Well, I know probably for a lot of people,
it's different things,
but for guys like you and me,
it's the first Tuesday of the month,
which means there's a discount at your grocery store.
Butter.
Butter.
go get your butter it's butter day you're welcome guys yeah load up on the butter get your butter on
that's whatever else is on sale too yeah get to the grocery store jack yeah get to the grocery store
be responsible my mom loaded up the fridge of some butter before she left got to meet jack's mom
on are you talking about your mom's thing she came to the nine nine nine is that right yeah i don't know
what her normal friday night is but uh probably a different look for her i'm thinking
just watching a bunch of 20-year-old idiots
try not to vomit all over the place.
Did she take part?
No.
Did you have a courtesy dog?
Just the general admission.
Why you quit?
You quit in front of your mom?
I guess, yeah.
Yeah, he did.
He was too worried about the night out.
My mom would get her cane out and whack me with it.
Now, what was the focus?
Because really, there was no real, it seems like everybody else kind of,
I think there was a real effort and strain.
and then finally some disappointment.
It just seems like you had some hot dogs.
Look, there's a bunch of dogs at the table.
I'm done.
It doesn't feel like you really went for it at all.
No, he's worried about the night.
Priorities for Jack were party night Friday.
And then second,
I was like, well, if it's easy, I'll do the 9-9-9-n-n-n-where.
Whereas I was willing to sacrifice the high-kicks.
Nothing in the cold basement with all my clothes off like a piece of a lot.
He said them done.
I was committed for about half an hour.
That's, geez.
There is honest.
I never have to worry about reading and reading through things with Jacks.
Like, is that what he's really?
There's a transparency.
I love to respect.
One of the few people in my life that just kind of, oh, you may not like it, but here's the, here's the truth.
Telling that what it is.
Good.
Got it.
I am getting an update from an unnamed six foot eight source.
Just starting to feel better from the nine nine nine today had headaches for days.
Could be anyone, really.
Yeah, not to.
It's as though he went to hot dog bender, almost.
Some random.
Yeah.
John wouldn't want me to say his name.
So anonymous source it is.
Yeah.
He wouldn't want to do that.
No.
He didn't order the meal after eating seven dogs.
That was,
I was going to say,
is it maybe.
Quite a move.
Maybe you just need to cleanse your palate,
get something new in there.
They have all the different colors, right?
Yeah.
Maybe it's maybe you don't digest well if it's just all the same thing in there.
He's calling it the hot dog wall.
It's just the wall form.
You couldn't get past the wall.
And you'd be up and moving around and stuff.
A little.
If people went and,
if you just go and sit.
Do people do still drink the Alka-Seltzer?
We put the tablet in the...
Plop, plop, fizz, fizz.
Yeah.
Oh, what a relief it is?
I don't know.
Now, you'll see Joey Chestin.
He does the hopping around.
And he's always torquing and turning.
Yeah.
Chew, chew, chew, chew.
All that movement helps a...
Yeah.
I do that with lawn clippings in my green bin.
Right.
Just kind of shake it so all the clippings will settle down to the bottom so I can put more in.
Yeah.
Good time.
Do you wash out your green bin?
They got the companies now, the tour around or clean them.
I need to.
People don't have houses?
Listen, you go tell, oh, I, what, to go clean out the bin?
Yeah, she doesn't see the bins.
Babe, do you want to go grab the pressure washer and just give the green bin a quick rinseroo?
The bottom there.
Just give it a quick rinse through, babe.
That's a blue job.
Is it?
Oh, yeah.
Anything involved in going?
outside, blue.
Yeah.
There's a lot of jobs at my place.
They don't have any color to them.
They just don't get done.
Those are aspirations and dreams.
Those aren't jobs.
Because there are multiple blue people that live in the household.
So to say they're blue jobs, I'd just.
They'd be getting done if they were.
I wish there was a few more blue jobs.
Pinda report coming up.
And that's about it.
It's pretty lean today.
We do have Tommy Wilden Jr. joining us at the end of the program.
You're supposed to keep that quiet, but now you've let the cat out of the bank.
No, it's all right.
That's all right.
They are tracking towards a cell load on Sunday, which would be 6K, 31 degrees, and it's minor soccer day.
So it's a banger for the calves on Sunday.
31 on Sunday.
What are you trying to do?
He's trying to get free tickets.
I like free.
Let's talk to me on the size for me.
Gotcha.
Yeah.
I get it.
We should be excited, more excited about,
it's the Stanley Cup final.
They're making us way a week.
That's a problem.
There's a bit of a wait for sure.
I think it's a time they want you to do,
you know,
the new age thinking,
some self-reflection.
They've given you a week.
And if you're not a fan in Edmonton or Florida,
you've been given a week to reflect on your own circumstances
with the team you support.
And if you are in Florida,
Edmonton,
this has been a nice stretch where you
could get some brownie points like you're oh honey let's you know let's let's watch that movie oh hey
i'll get there let's do this work because now you know for the next two and a half weeks there's a big
if your honey is being a pain in the ass at this moment in time you need to kick honey to the curb
why isn't honey there with you maybe why isn't he or she why isn't honey honey should
f off and let me focus on what i'm trying to accomplish here just please um part of it is too
unless you're directly invested,
I guess in either of the four remaining team,
certainly the two.
There was very little drama in round three,
so it just feels like we've had very little
lead in our pencil for about a month.
Lost momentum.
It always happens.
There was a lot of drama when rant
and had to score at will
to win a series against Colorado.
There was a lot of drama
when the Jets
somehow fluked their way through the blues.
I was going to say,
let's take our shitty attitude
and take a look at the playoffs.
they have taken place so far.
Are we going to look at P.K.
Saban's bracket or the one we're thinking?
We're not going to do self-reflection.
I guess we could.
Like, if you lived in Winnipeg, what would you be saying?
Like, we had a nice year and then we...
Can we get Nick Elyler signed?
That's what you're saying, if you're in Winnipeg.
Do you really want him, sign?
I mean, who are you going to replace him with?
I'd like to re-s possibly get guys, sir.
I don't know the...
He's a good player.
I don't know the farm system.
That's the thing.
He is a good person.
player, but you have that, who will play here?
So even if he's not very durable and there are better players and it's maybe more than we
want to spend, but if he'll play there for you, he's a good hockey player.
And they don't need no trade.
Like even if you get a no trade.
Yeah, he's got a no trade.
So I'm leaving Winnipeg to go.
Oh, okay.
Had a really good year.
Do you want to do that?
Just quick, quick thoughts in hockey markets?
God, that's very sports.
But yeah, let's get it.
Well, it doesn't have to be.
And it could be, these mosquitoes are the shits if you're.
Yeah.
And I wish the Jets would have got through a round too.
So, yeah, hockey thought, non-hockey thought.
Whatever you want to do.
What are the Jets?
Could they have beat St. Louis?
Or they did beat St. Louis, I mean, but should they have?
I don't know if they should have.
And they didn't really have a chance against Dallas.
Until their goalie wants to be the best goalie in the playoffs.
That's a good point.
I don't really see.
They can't win on the road.
The goal is.
Well, the goal might have something to do.
See?
his honey is in the way.
Is it?
Well, yeah, because he's at home.
He's got the honey beside him.
You'd take honey on the road.
You need some side pieces.
You've got to set him up here.
That's not, I'm sure.
No, okay.
I'm trying to figure it out here.
What's so good at home?
We can't lose the road forever.
We're going to do something.
What about?
Travel with the team?
What I've read about Hella buck is he's an outdoorsy guy.
That's why he likes Winnipeg.
He likes fishing and all that sort of like.
Does he like it too much?
Was he like this?
There's a prime spring.
How outdoorsy you are?
You live in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg is not outdoorsy.
Yes, there's lakes around, but they're paining he has to get to, and it's minus 100.
Well, not in spring.
Not in May.
That's what I'm saying is that, like the weather's finally turned.
He's like, I can get outside.
The fish are biting now.
The ice is off.
The season opening, Manitoba.
Soon as the playoffs hit.
Walleye, they're smashing.
Hey, that's why he goes right to shit in the playoffs.
Big jig heads.
They're killing them.
Yeah.
Woo, dog.
You got to rest in the last week of the regular season and just send him doing a big fishing trip.
Get that out of his system.
He turns into Italo the Bignan all of a sudden when the playoffs are all around.
It was the other guy.
They were.
Henry was shot.
Jack.
Which one got in shit?
Ital.
Oh, they both got it did.
Jack.
Barbed hooks, Jack.
You can't do it.
Can't do it.
Catch and release.
Barbed hooks.
Don't fuck around.
I just pulled it red on my shirt.
Oh, no.
I got a brown shirt.
But not as.
No business meetings today?
We could build out a list of criteria for you to,
I just,
to pull a rat.
What did,
what did you do?
So yeah,
he said he was coming to the 999 and didn't show up.
He pulled a rat.
All right.
Well,
so they got to get.
That's boring.
That's one.
We tried to do.
That's a lot.
We got to keep on.
That's the next.
St.
Lois.
Los.
They were.
Montgomery got him going.
I would say they had a good year.
I think since they changed the coach,
they looked one of the better teams in the league.
I think they would have given Dallas a tougher run.
They're super physical.
Berlberg and Holloway looked great.
Holloway was missed for the whole playoffs of that injury.
That would have helped a ton.
What's Colorado?
You're a big Macar fan.
Colorado.
Get Sid.
I know it's just,
it would be so fun
everywhere outside of Pittsburgh.
Yeah.
Sorry, Jackie, your mouse here.
Jack would be fine with it.
I think the people in Pittsburgh would be fine with it.
They got a year to figure out what to do with Marty Naches,
who fit great and then didn't do a lot in the playoffs.
So you could have that chat this summer.
They did so much last year.
Shifting on the fly and trades.
Both goalies, two or three defensemen, three centers.
How many of those guys, sorry to put you on the spot?
UFAs, of the people.
Brock Lobster, be out of there.
Was Lindgren? He's out, right?
I'm not sure he's going to. I'll pull it up.
Because, of course, oh, the leaves can use linger.
They gave up a haul for the Brock Lobster, like a ton.
We're talking their top prospect in Callum Ritchie, a first rounder plus.
How am I not?
Jesus.
Word of caution.
Don't do that.
Well, I mean, if they're still playing today, you'd say, go do that.
But yeah, that stings.
Who did it?
Florida.
Florida spent for Marchand, albeit not as much.
He kind of had Boston over a barrel.
They spent for Seth Jones, although he's got term left.
so different. Both of those
feel like they were under market value.
Yeah, I thought you were buying.
Like Marchand was willing to go there.
So they get, it was like, uh, Tarasenko last year.
Yeah. Yeah, he had them over the barrel. He had the no move and he's like, I'm a,
I'm a franchise player. You're going to retire my name here.
This is the team I'm going to. You guys figure it out.
Maybe not so much the Seth Jones, but they get him at a more attractive number.
And what is Seth? Like he looked like shit in Chicago, but you knew he was better than that.
So there was a little risk there. Yeah. And they got Chicago to eat some salary,
but they also gave up pretty good haul.
two first
first plus
tell you what if I had my GM hat on
I think I would
I'm not I'm not going crazy at deadlines
my draft picks are too valuable
yeah I mean if you look at the Oilers
they love Jake Wallman
it's just that only two teams are left
so yeah there's 14 teams that did some of the deadline
it didn't work it's like well one cup a year
well to say that there aren't deals that are easy to make
because they're affordable
you're just talking big game
or third rounder
game hunting.
Yeah, if you're giving up one of your better prospects in the system or a high,
a first round pick.
Can I amend your position?
How about just for rentals?
Those are the ones that sting.
Like you look at what Vancouver gave up for two months of man,
Elias Lindholm.
Yeah,
not ideal.
Should have known that five assets.
That is all you get.
I wonder how much of that comes down to the owner hanging around your office.
So what are we doing?
Vancouver.
A lot.
Who's of it like, can we get?
Who's out there?
Who can we get?
Well, that'll be our organization this summer because the Oilers win,
and then we're going to be like, we can't let that happen.
We're going to have to.
Just a few free agent signings away, guys, obviously.
L.A. Kings, we've got to keep going through the teams in the West.
Well, Colorado.
Well, yeah.
But did you got to figure what you're going to do with Natchez.
They need number two center.
You need number two center.
Free agents.
Nazim Qadry needs to go home.
I'll take it.
Except that he's not from there, but he want to come up there.
Why, you don't trade your dogs.
Well, he's a dog.
They got to get their dog back.
It's rule number one.
give him away or leave him at your co-hosts?
I thought you told me that this guy was useless and we couldn't trade him ever.
Well, when there was seven years left on that deal and he quit against Chicago.
But no, he just looked much better at.
He honestly, the last two years, he's been very good.
You would be worried about him aging.
And right now you're like, he's aging wonderfully.
And there's depending on when the conversation came up.
I just think at different times the tradeability guys, at that point, it was hard
trade.
You're right.
Yes, in hindsight.
but at that point, I don't think he was tradable.
You came in here and you railed on him.
Last play, Chicago.
He was turnover, turn over, turn over.
It was embarrassing.
Yes, and at that point, it's very hard to trade him.
After back-to-back, he's got 60 goals on the two years.
I think it was Kelso's fault.
He had him out doing all that media stuff.
It's too much, Kel's that really what it was?
Ever since he said no to coming on our show and promoting his book, he's been great.
Less media is better for him.
Doesn't like the pressure, D.
Yeah, that's what that.
Hard mass.
What?
Really?
What are you looking at?
You're a book.
What's he's staring at Jack?
I just wondered if we got.
Jack didn't read it.
He didn't read.
No, he said we asked him to come on the show.
We did?
I inquired about his availability to plug his book that he launched,
I believe last fall.
He said,
we'd be good to him.
That's my whole point.
I'm going to sue him.
Right?
And maybe that's the secret sauce or not.
He was great this year.
I'm a.
So in Colorado.
The Brock Lobster,
UFA, Johnny Drew Am.
Joel Kibiranta Jimmy Visi up front on the back end.
It is Eric Johnson, who's a hundred.
And yes, the Rangers Lingren, I believe.
Ryan Lindgren.
I don't see him here.
Old Sam Malinsky.
Ah, yeah.
Oh, Mr. Malinski down on the corner.
It's the number two center.
That's what they're missing.
And is Landiscag?
Is he back?
Is he playing?
He's making $7 million.
There's 32.
He's got four years left on his deal.
All right.
Look great.
in the playoffs.
Scoring chances.
Well, he was back.
Expectations are like,
could he be a third liner?
And he was one of their best.
No expectation.
And you can skate.
You look great.
Like that's the thing.
It's like you going out there.
I don't think I would have.
If you went out on McKinnon's line and scored a goal,
that like,
yeah,
you look great.
But I don't know that you did anything.
He didn't play with McKinnon and he looked good.
Okay.
But,
like,
what does that mean for the 25,
26 call it?
As they build out, as they build out that roster.
Yeah, it's actually probably a pain in the butt more than anything because of how much money he's owed and they've been having LTIR the last two years.
So they're paying $7 million to potentially their third line center.
No, to their second line winger.
But yeah, like, it's definitely, he's certainly not a star, but he moved the needle more than I thought he could, given that, you know, we didn't know that he's a goddamn inspiration.
And he's a captain, but he's 32.
He's an inspiration.
How many games did he play?
He would have jumped in.
Game three.
was flown this summer, he'll be good.
Maybe 10 games, that's it, right?
It might be in-house.
They've got their guy they need.
10 games.
Didn't he come in in the playoffs?
Oh, sorry, it's only round one.
It'd be five, four or five games.
Is there like three or four games?
Game three did he come home?
Yeah, look, I just thought, is this guy a fourth liner?
And he looked like one of their best forwards.
Sure.
I don't remember him that fondly, but yeah.
He scored a goal and he got back on the ice.
It might be more of a, it's something to build on.
Hey.
Let's not knock it.
Let's not beat it.
Let's not beat it about the Bush.
I like it.
Yeah.
So Colorado is good.
Are we worried about them?
I think they are what they are.
I don't know if they're quite good enough.
What about Dallas?
LA first because they got knocked out first.
All right.
L.A.
Sorry.
Process.
New GM.
I know.
I got them written down here.
Let's go.
So funny.
Winnipeg.
It's not how we do it, dude.
L.A.
I think they're a good team.
they effed up and if camp here can be good,
they'll be in good shape. What are your thoughts
on their new general manager and his ability
to build out that team?
I don't know how much he's got to do.
I can't stand still, though. That's why the old guy's not there.
Why can't they stand still? I think that team's well, I mean, if they run
into Edmonton and around one next year, who do you like?
Well, then that's why Rob Blake doesn't have a job?
Okay, but you're arguing then the rest of the league should do the same thing.
Like, why are the flame's going to make a move?
if Edmonton's in your division.
I'm only saying that it's a really, really good team,
and they haven't got out of the first.
They had them by the balls.
They just didn't squeeze.
It was over.
They had them.
LA is way closer than any other team that's matched up against Edmonton.
I agree.
I agree.
And I still think they'll add.
And if Kenny Hollins know for one thing,
what does he love?
And you know what?
Buff the stuff won't F up and turn the puck over ever again in that situation.
So.
Buff the stuff.
Goet and Byfield?
Yes.
A new name for him.
Buff is Byfield?
Yeah. Okay.
Ken Holland loves his veterans.
He loves his winners and he's going to give them too much money and too much term.
Jonathan Taves.
Maybe they're deep down the middle.
I don't know that they need the center because they got Dono Byfield Copatar.
But Brad Marchand, Brad Marchand,
that reeks like Kenny Holland.
Too much money, too much term, veteran winner.
I don't know what the hell you're talking.
Pull names out of your ass.
Marchand's not going anywhere.
They're going to win the cop.
He's going to re-sign in Florida.
He loves it.
So they're not going to sign it, then?
God.
Go ahead.
For it, everyone.
Signed everyone.
Heckblan.
They'll figure it out.
You guys, all these, all the pundits,
they come up with these scenarios where shit can't happen.
And then, oh, if the GM wants it to happen, they find a way.
Montour went.
Like, the thing with the king is.
They didn't want her.
I don't, you don't slow play it.
If there's a.
It's now.
Well, Copatar and Dowdy, you're still good.
Fiala 28.
Copa's 37.
Right.
All he out.
22. Kempe's 28. Old Warren Fogel, 29. No, I'm with you. I think that we look at the Kings a lot
differently if that puck gets out and they win. I think they are, I don't know how the rest of
the series look. Never mind the whole crazy goalie challenge. It could have been a sweep
as crazy as that says. Yes. That said, he gets brought in not because they're okay with status quo, right?
we don't know
and Rob Blake's probably like I'm good
we don't know
90 million in the bank
I'm on the beach I like surfing
I could do this or I could not do this
I'll not do this
or maybe him and Roby
gotten a big F you maybe
Oh geez
Roby
Maybe he and Roby
I don't
I again I don't consider
Cap Space because I don't have to
but are you really taking big swings with the LA lineup?
I got a lot.
They look good.
They look really good.
I want guys that fit in.
You saw what happened with Dubois when guys don't fit in.
Got out from under that.
You know what you need.
Did they not win the Pacific?
Begast did.
Begast did.
Sorry.
We'll talk about him at a moment.
Yeah.
They're next on our list.
I like L.A.
I'd leave it alone.
If I'm going to make a move, it's at the trade deadline.
Minnesota.
hate them.
I guess just,
just the last thing for
Riddick is a UFA,
Gavrikov on the back end.
They'll bring him back.
He likes it there.
He's good.
Tanner,
Geno,
UFA,
finally after that crazy deal.
Tampa assigned him
and then they
out of the trade,
right?
Trevor Lewis.
He's done.
I couldn't play the fourth line.
You're cooked.
And Kuzmanko.
UFAs.
Kuzmanko.
You owe me, too,
by the way.
True.
That hot chicken sandwich spot closed.
Hot dogs.
Yeah, I eat nine for you.
You did.
What a friend.
Sorry, Ryan.
Next team is Minnesota.
Did you say?
Many.
They get out from under about $15 million in buyout hell from the Parisé suitor.
Finally, that drops to like one and a half million of penalty.
They got money finally.
They've been operating at like 85% of the cap for the last half decade.
They draft well.
They have good kids.
They don't want to pay Marco Rossi, but they like Marco Rossi.
Weird little conundrum there.
That is.
Nyquist is a UFA.
Justin Brazo.
See you.
On front.
John Merrill on the back end.
So nothing.
Caprizov.
Zeve Boyum is going to be a regular NHLer.
They're D, man.
Brock Faber, Jared Spurgeon,
Jonas Brodine,
Jacob Middleton,
Zev Boyam,
David Iurecheck is 21.
They're okay back there.
They're really good.
It'll be,
depending on the order of who signs what.
don't be surprised if Caprizov has the highest salary on paper on his new deal.
July 1, he can sign.
He's currently making nine.
And he's going to get, I think, given where the cap spawned,
why wouldn't you ask for Drysidal Plus money?
Drysiddle signed it when we thought the cap would be not going to $115 million in year two of that deal.
He's a hell of a player.
And what are you can do?
Like, argue over money?
He's going to write it down.
You're going to say yes.
And now you've locked them up.
I was just trying to think of a way to argue.
you, I'm like, well, I don't know what Billy's going to tell.
He's huge for them.
What does Billy Garen say?
And again, we're going to watch the club for three months without him.
It was not good.
Did you just get 15 million in cap space?
We're giving it all to Carill.
And you know what?
He's already getting nine.
And that's a pretty easy reason.
Yeah.
And if he's that good.
If you can get him long term and you're in Minnesota, there's no guarantees.
You've got the rest of the team looking in good shape, like your goaltoning is good.
The D is good for four more years.
It's tremendous.
The Rossi one's an interesting Calgary talking point because he's a center and he's an
offer sheet candidate and a lot of people around the league talking about it.
There aren't top two centers in the NHL at his size.
And I think he just put up 73 points.
Like what do you do if like and you also go to Ericksonac and like Boldie?
He's not one of your best two centers, but he probably wants to get paid like a number two.
I don't know.
that's that one's fascinating because they might like him,
but they might not want to pay him what somebody else might
that's desperate for a center.
So are you saying that they won't be able to afford him
because he's going to get offer sheeted?
No, I'm saying he's a candidate for the offer sheet
because I don't, I think they're leery about his ability.
Like, I think they played him down the fourth line in the playoffs
and he had, what, 73 points this year?
73's high, but he had a good year.
60.
Thank you.
It's reading the boldy numbers, I think.
last two seasons, 21 goals, 24 goals went from 40 to 60 this past year.
And he's young, young, young, coming out of entry level.
So with, but, and you did talk about.
So what are you saying they're going to give up on them?
No, I'm just fascinated to see what plays up.
He's an RFA.
He needs a deal.
And he's the type of guy that everyone's like, offer sheets, offer sheets.
There's a guy.
Wow.
So for Minnesota.
It makes it easy for Billy Garin.
Not easy, but you go to Arb or you?
Not Arb yet.
don't believe he has our rights
well then you stick it to him
that's what he's trying to do
and the agent's probably trying to get an offer sheet
I feel like the kid is young enough and good enough
at 21 and 24 goals
40 and 60 points that the projection
is going to be fine and if you ever wanted
to trade him you could trade his ass
yeah for a hall probably right like
what are we talking about sign him
but it's a point of contention in Minnesota
it's negotiations haven't gone well
it's a different world to your point
about no they've got money
Yeah.
They have not had any kind of flexibility cap-wise for so long.
They've had to really kind of dance around.
Didn't they just sign Marcus Johansson?
One year, nine-hundred.
So, I mean,
it's a bottom six-wing.
Guy that can play center if need.
I just wonder if it's positional need,
although they're so deep at D you would think.
I don't know.
It would seem weird that they...
Well, if your D is deep enough too, you can trade to add...
Yeah.
And I'm not saying dismantled the day.
I'm just...
Yeah, same with the...
I love the...
I guess what I'm saying, they're in pretty damn good.
spot. Yeah, they are. They are. And they've been
really well run because they've been on a budget.
It kind of reminds you when Buffalo got bought
by the Pagulas and it's like, hey, look, we have money now.
Let's go of fun. Spend that. And all the decisions
they made were brutal. It was like Christian Airhoff
for a billion years. Ville Laneau. It was awful.
Remember those two deals? Oh, my God.
Just awful. The moment they had money
is like you were better on a budget. What are you doing?
The main thing I would do
is change the jerseys to those
North Stars. The black,
black green, yellow. The reverse
Retros are gorgeous.
And then just plan the route.
Yeah, that's it.
That's what I would do.
What a plan.
Yeah.
Thanks.
Who's next?
Vegas.
We're not doing all the teams.
Just the West where we cook after that.
I'll be just exhausted.
Vegas, I think they're hooped.
I think they're good, but they're not good enough.
Other teams are catching up.
They're too aggressive.
They're getting older.
And the flames hold their first next year, which is fascinating.
Because I could see a case where they win the Pacific again.
And I could also see a year, like a couple years,
ago where it's like, yeah, we were just dinged up and had a longer run and we were out of steam.
The one fly in the ointment to my argument, Dean?
They're in Vegas.
It is like they could easily end up with Martin.
We talked about it yesterday.
Go ahead.
Good.
Go get him.
And the thing about McCriman is, I mean, he goes for it.
He's aggressive, but he's not stupid either.
He's not going to have a team that he feels can't win and he's just going to, ah, like he's, he knows what he's
doing they have Riley smith brandon sod tanner pierce and all over 30 they are done as ufasas
uh back end actually nick hagg's an interesting offer sheet target he's huge rfa arbrites
zack white i mean they're signed everybody's pretty much locked in there aside from hagg who is
an rfa if you were Craig conroy and you see all these guys on the right hand side of your
depth chart on the blue line.
You got Kevin Ball on the left.
That's like the end of the list.
Would you?
I'm back to just throw in the towel.
Hey, egg, hey, hey, throw in the towel.
Second rounder for him.
Trade these guys that had good years like you just said.
And now they're moving.
Get them out of here.
What do you want?
What's, who are you talking about now?
Godry and whoever.
Oh, I see.
Coleman's up in a couple of years.
I'm not, I guess what I'm saying is I'm not adding and I'm not
taking a stab at a defense
How old's Haig, though?
I feel like he'd be better fit for the season.
26.
It's the,
you're right back to the same.
The hell's that matter.
Wow,
you're not signing a 30-year-old.
That's sort of what I mean.
If you were going to move out of Raspus
and bring in a hague,
you're younger.
I'm asking what that.
But you also didn't want like 25-year-olds
because they weren't going to be.
No,
you watch your things.
And when we talked about a Zegra's type,
we just don't know what the hell he is.
It's hard because you can't just stop playing games.
Because you think,
well, we want, we were not good enough.
I don't think this year.
Well, you know, we're just not going to, we're going to give away all our players and we're
going to just sit for a year or two.
Let us know when the lottery is and if we're picking first or second.
So.
Can't do it.
Like that flyers deal.
Are you, are you, is it a good?
Was the price one you could afford?
Yes.
Did it make sense?
Yes.
To some.
To others.
Like, why?
Trade away.
Don't bring in.
I think you needed to address your complete dearth of centers under 35 years of age.
And you did that there.
but I don't know that I look at either of those guys and are like,
yes, that's a core piece.
Kind of wait.
Like,
Fairby was brutal.
He'll be better.
But I don't really know what Frost is.
It's just in the terms of adding someone who's in their mid-20s.
You still have to put a product on the ice.
Yeah.
And look,
it's not going to be expensive.
If you give them four and a half million bucks to play the left side for 18 minutes
a night and you've got a little more toughness,
that doesn't stop you from either tanking or push you into.
contention. It's just giving you some left
shot options. You don't have any. It's like Jake Bean.
But again, just getting back to
Vegas. Ickel
28, Stone 33,
hurdle 31, William Carlson
32, Barbishev 29.
Nick Waugh
28, Colossar 28.
Yeah.
Good older. Interesting
spot.
When you read the names, though, it doesn't sound
intimidating. It never has, though, has it?
I don't know.
To me, that's been the whole thing with Vegas.
It's a very good team.
They're better than the sum of their parts.
I think you got lots of stars.
Iichel's a superstar.
Yeah, I think Stone is a star.
I think Theodore is a star.
Patrangelo was in the brother.
I do not trust that Stone's going to be anything.
The health is the issue.
Yeah.
And he's only got two years.
He hasn't done what you'd hoped.
I don't think.
Disappointing us there.
But they'll do something.
Like, you know, McCrimmon, he's going to,
someone's going to take the goat horns and get shipped out of town.
they're going to bring in a high profile player because that's every single year.
Kelly going to cook.
Stone over point a game this year, 67 and 66.
I don't doubt that.
It's just whether he plays.
And he was hurt in the Oilers series.
If you watch that series, you're like their goalie wasn't good enough.
He can bounce back.
There's not a hockey.
But they didn't score enough.
Yeah.
There's not a hockey person out there that doesn't like Stone.
It's just, are you going to be in the lineup to contribute?
And it would be nice for you to be able to walk when you retire.
It's like Peter Forsberg, right?
When he was healthy, he's a force of name.
nature.
Alex Petrangelo 35, he's got this year, like two more years.
So you're, I, I just said, that's about right for him, though.
And with Stone, he's 33, two more years.
They're not, those are the two ones you worry about.
It's not like you've got them for four or five more years.
Who are their kids?
They traded most of them away.
I know this is the issue.
Dorofia is great.
The kids now are good enough to play and make a difference.
And they lineup doesn't scream of them.
They're not young.
They've got this Cole Schwint.
Oh, 24-year-old center.
Tell me about them.
How do you get a Cole Schwint?
I don't know.
I don't get one.
I don't tell you that.
Yeah, I mean, I'm looking at the prospect list and people who are into prospects be like, well, how don't you know who those guys are?
I'm sure there's some good players in there, but.
They've also traded every first rounder they've had, except the most recent who they'll be trading later, I imagine.
But Brennan Brisson was the latest victim of that.
Yeah, unless they pivot a little bit.
Start hanging on to picks here for for a spell.
And again, something we haven't seen them do yet.
They've been win now, win now, win now.
Yeah, I feel like that owners.
I agree.
I'm not here to F around kind of guy.
It's crazy because even here, they don't have a first this year or next.
They traded both of those in the Hannafin and Hurtle deals last deadline.
Oh, yeah.
But then beyond the first round, they're in decent shape.
this year they have so you can wait four years for a second rounder
it's their minus two draft picks
anyway who else what next
Dallas man I feel for
Jim nil because he's made good deals a good GM
they've drafted developed well they've signed guys shrewdly
look at the ticket they got Duchyne on you look at them
how they brought Harley into becoming one of the best young
defensemen in the game
they locked up most of their young kids
they go get ranting in
they should have a franchise goalie
and there too you don't really
hey don't worry about the regular season
we'll get our wins they got 50
of them I believe
just what happens when we get to the playoffs
we're built for it
is debor coming back
one year left
I don't think he gets an extension
yet they'll be like no you got one year left
we'll talk about it we'll see where the season goes
it's a bit of the hellabuck
Winnipeg situation too where they've gone
further and they've done better than Winnipeg.
But Ottinger's
needs another Calgary series
He needs to close a door on it
on a, yeah.
So now the interesting thing in Dallas
is Jason Robertson's name,
whether this is just rumor or not, is out there.
He's one of the only young guys
they don't have locked in long term, if I'm correct?
He's 25, one year left
before RFA status with ARB.
He's two years from UFA.
He came back late in the season from injury.
I think he got hurt, what, game 82?
Left in a while and then returned.
And then he didn't have a great playoffs.
And when you lose as a team that there's expectation to win a cup,
everyone needs a scapegoat.
I would be very careful about trading a 26-year-old
that looks like he's going to score 40 goals every year,
even if he had a bad playoffs.
I don't buy any of the bullshit they're talking about trading.
Yeah, I don't know if they are,
but it's just the names out there,
whether that's other teams,
trying to get Jim Nill to put the scapegoat horns on somebody,
but like,
scapegoat horns see that, that was crazy.
Goat horns.
A scapegoat would probably have goat horns.
Yeah, I think that works.
Jesus.
But if you have the gold warranty feels like you've earned them,
or if you're a scapegoat, maybe you're unfairly being.
That's where they're scapegoat horns.
They're not just goat horns.
Okay.
What are you going to say?
I said, I would just,
do you bring Jamie Ben back?
Lo money?
Depends on what he wants because he was not impactful.
I like him as a player,
but he wasn't impactful at all.
Assume it's manageable.
Yeah.
You're a right shot defenseman.
Is he good in the room?
He's the captain.
If he is, you bring him back.
Matt Dushan, that's going to be tougher.
He's earned a lot of money here with his play the last two years.
I think he played for a little cheaper than
he was hoping to.
Yeah.
Like him, but.
And one more year left us again?
Yeah.
I think he'll last one more than Ben's.
This year and next.
so essentially two.
Okay, two more.
9.85, expiring at the end of the 26, 27.
Okay.
They paid Wyatt,
it paid Rope,
they paid Hayskinan,
I think they paid Harley.
Tomas,
one more,
he's got this year at four,
and then RFA.
So I haven't paid him yet.
Yeah,
okay.
But I think there's,
if I'm Jake Ottinger,
I'm going to need my,
my feelings to be sued a little bit.
He did a really good job
in the exit interview that he did with the media.
I could do that. Even if I was pissed to
the core, I would come out and say the right things.
And so I just give him credit
because that could have turned into a disaster.
And he's
whether he's actually sour
or not, we don't know. But that was
a good job of not making
a really tough offseason for Jim now.
At least publicly. Because it's two things.
Not only did I get pulled
two shots, two goals.
Should I? Yeah, I probably could have made it. Okay.
Was that six minutes in?
not only did I get pulled
then I got fucking thrown under the bus
by my coach after the game
I'm pasted
I wonder if there's something deeper though
maybe that's why Pete DeBoer's not getting an extension
and I
and maybe he's in that Rick Tockett spot where he's like look
I'm not coming back for one year we'll just part ways
or maybe I can get a job pain in the ass
he doesn't want to do it with it's hard to say
that's another one of those things you don't need
you don't need to be a psychologist
there was more to it than just
allowing two goals and two shots.
Pete DeBoer has some serious doubts in Jake Ottinger
and his ability to win for this team right now.
He could have sugarcoded it at the end of the
when he was doing the press conference and he didn't.
He didn't.
He put Casey to Smith in game elimination game.
That's a choice.
Fireball offense.
And again, they got it back to 3-2
and DeSmith allowed the first goal shot on net in,
if I'm correct.
Yep.
Like that, easy Pete.
Yeah.
And I think it's, we all understand this.
Word of caution.
Teams that get to the final four all think they're going to win the cup.
And when you lose, you get really, really pissed.
We've got to fix shit.
You're probably still an incredibly elite team that's got a great shot of being a contender the next year.
All four of these teams, Carolina, Florida, Edmonton, Dallas.
So don't go knee-jerk reaction a star out of your market.
Oh, I think you should.
It's good for our show.
It's great for our show.
I don't think Jim Nell's going to do it.
To your point on Robertson.
So of those teams,
and you said L.A. needs to do something.
I don't say anything they need to.
What I'm saying is Ken Holland comes in.
He's not going to sit on his hands judging what Ken Holland's career spent.
He's going to swing and he's going to go chase vets that have won.
Because the first thing he did when he got to Evanton is, bring in Mike Smith,
bring in Duncan Keith, like veteran, veteran, veteran,
like that's who he is.
That's how he GMs.
So that's what I expect them to do.
They don't need to do anything.
They're a good team.
I don't know.
That might be it.
I think Ken Allen comes in and he does not sit on his hands.
They got some cap space.
It's only half a couple of good young goalies in the system.
Right?
Like it's not like Ken's bounced around from team to team.
And bringing in Smith might have been an absolute necessity because they didn't have
goaltending.
Yeah.
I'm not saying they're bad.
They made sense.
But you're saying there's a track record that this is how Holland's going to.
Yeah.
I think in free agency, he's chased winners and guys with more ten.
And that's what I expect to.
Right.
So I expect to be active in free agency.
But every GM who signs free agents are getting guys with tenure.
That's all I'm saying.
Right.
So what I'm saying is I think he will be active in.
I'm,
you just,
okay,
I don't want to get into a fight,
but you're just saying like this is a well-known calling card that this is what
Ken Holland does,
that he brings in old guys.
He brings in vet.
I don't mean old and bad.
But if you're,
if you're going to the UFA market,
you're getting guys that have experience.
You're getting old.
players. And he was in Detroit and Edmonton. And in Detroit, when he was bringing in those old,
that's, there was no cap. And they, yeah, bring, bring, bring everybody in. Why not? Um,
but that would seem to be, what else are you going to do in LA? You're not going to go to
market and bring in a 22 year old. You're going to go and get established players. Yeah,
I mean, you could trade a Turcotte or a Grant Clark or one of your goalies. But yeah,
I think they will be active in free agency. And he loves winners more than older in the tooth guys.
Like when you listen to him after they brought Duncan Keith Edmonton,
he was just glowing about this guy that looked like he was kind of cooked in Chicago,
about all the winning he'd done.
And he was asked,
like,
what makes you believe Duncan can be successful?
And he says,
the annual records and like almanac of the NHL is what.
Like he's a proven bleepin winner.
That's why I think Marchands have fit there.
Yeah,
I don't disagree.
I wonder how did that work out in Edmonton?
and is that is that a lesson learned for Ken Holland?
I went and brought in guys that had won cups and were right near the end,
maybe at the end, and it didn't work for me.
Do I do it again?
Yeah.
Because that's what I've done or this time I'm not bringing in.
You didn't win cups, but remember when he came in there,
they were having almost no playoff success with two of the best players in the world, right?
So he's more than comfortable to burn some boats for now,
is sort of more what I'm saying here.
And if you look at Coppatar and Dowdy, that's probably the, and Kemper, like, important guys, it's probably time.
I just don't know where the holes are that you're trying to, like, to me, you look at the LA lineup.
They couldn't play the fourth line, so they need some forward depth.
Okay, but the fourth line is, what are we talking about?
That's not, that's not.
So you're in the drain.
No, no, I'm just saying if you add a top six forward, that pushes everyone down.
That's what I mean.
Go get another impact forward.
Who?
Marshand.
Is he a top?
six. Yeah, I think, well, I mean, he's absolutely a guy you want playing big minutes, whether
that's second or third line. I don't really care. But yeah, he's a, he's a very good, like,
Brad Marshand was the best player in that Toronto, Florida series. I'm not trying to,
that's a feather. It sounds like we're arguing with you and you want this, but you seem
convinced that Mershant is, and maybe so, but I don't see Marshand as a top six anymore.
And yes, he's having one hell of a playoffs and yes, I love how he plays and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
That doesn't mean that I think that would be an absolute word of caution,
or I would be offering a word of caution to Mr. Holland saying,
be careful.
I agree.
Yeah, I'm not saying that's a smart move.
I hope you've learned from you the past because to me, that is, you're chasing.
Yeah, and that's why I say it fits the bill, right?
When you look at his transactions he made in Edmonton,
this one would be.
That doesn't mean you can't learn from that.
I don't think he's saying I needed to do things differently there.
Like this is his team in the final.
All the Jeff Jackson guys this summer are sitting in the press box.
Like aside from Klimberg and like some, who would it be like cap an?
Like it's mostly Ken Holland's team here.
Jeff Skinner's hardly played.
Arvinson's hardly played.
Emerson's in the press box.
It's Ken Holland's team in the final.
Could be my team if I got.
I don't disagree.
I think if we were running this team, we might have a banner or two.
Wouldn't have been given Jack Campbell 25 million.
Very smart.
Yeah, we're very sorry.
Out of all those teams, I don't know.
Who do you feel best about Colorado, Dallas, L.A., Minnesota.
I like where L.A. is going.
I liked how they played.
I know they soiled themselves to lose that series against Edmonton.
But to me, their team, the, I watch Dallas play, and I want more.
Yeah.
I watch Colorado play, and I want more.
Winnipeg, I don't.
Cool, he's going to show you.
Hellibox everything.
and if he's going to be Hella Buck playoffs,
then I'm not worried about it.
To me, L.A. was the team
that was best positions to win and have success.
And I feel like they've been good for a while
and their kids are coming along
and their veterans are still contributing.
I don't know.
Here's a better way to twist the West.
Like out of those eight teams we've talked about,
who could fall out?
Because if you're Utah and you're like, we're close.
Or you're Craig Conner.
Like, we had 96 points.
We just add some offense.
we're in or you're anaheim and you're like this is our year to get in where you're
Vancouver and it's like no no no last year was a Melrose place we'll be better like who do you
who in your mind is like oh look out this could come crashing real quick and like out of
I don't know they all look good we talked in the least glowing fashion about Vegas they had 50
wins and 110 points good team they're a long way from falling out it can happen and they were
dinged up in a second round like that's just but if I mean to your point you would think
Minnesota. They played without Capriza for a long time.
I don't know about St. Louis still.
It was a fun run for them.
But it's interesting with Minnesota, just looking at the regular season in terms of goals for goals against.
They were minus 11 and maybe that changes.
St. Louis plus 21.
Oilers plus 23.
Three months?
Plus 44.
The only team that made it in the West at minus.
Players were minus 13.
So that's what you're talking about.
Starved offense versus defense.
It's, yeah, it's that a freeze out for three months.
You're missing.
Like, that's, there you go.
So if you're Billy Garon,
just be healthy kid.
Pay him his money.
Keep them in many.
Do you like,
what did you,
do you like the Vikings?
Get you season tickets.
What,
do you like,
um,
Timberwolves?
Hope he likes vision.
Do you like Target?
We'll get you a target card.
Go and balls,
big mall.
Yeah,
do you like big malls?
Shit.
That happened to shot.
Um,
damn.
Great steakhouse,
sir.
Is that right?
Oh.
St. Paul or Minneapolis?
In St. Paul?
It was in.
He's going to say everything's in Minneapolis.
I've been to Minneapolis a couple of times.
I have no recall in that town.
I don't remember eating their restaurants.
I think I've been to the mall.
Just hammered the whole time.
I think the mall's in St. Paul, isn't it?
The Mall of America?
No, I think it's in.
Was it many?
Yeah.
Because the rink is obviously in St. Paul.
Right.
All the other sports teams are in Minneapolis.
Yeah.
Well, there you go.
That's our deep dive.
God, that's a lot of sports.
Jack, how was it?
How was our deep dive in the Western Conference?
Really, really good.
Oh, thanks.
How boring, though, was it?
I wasn't bored at all.
Okay.
Really?
What the hell else?
I said he wasn't lying to us.
He's transparent.
Fair enough.
I shouldn't pry.
If he says he was, he was.
I think he's bullshit.
Thanks, Jack.
I think you're following.
Let's do the, you know what?
The origin, the origin golf term is coming up.
We're a couple weeks away.
10 days.
10 days.
We're going to be out in Strathmore at the Strathmore Golf Club.
Our buddy was just down in Nashville.
What's how he's doing?
15 days, I think.
What's the date?
What's the 18th?
I thought it was the 13th.
Okay.
Register your team at the tap room.
There's a tap room in Calgary and one in Strathmore.
Damn.
Get in there.
1130.
Check in.
One o'clock start.
Is that a, are you happy with that start time?
One P.
You like that?
Get a good base in there, get a couple beers in you.
Some hot dogs.
Big brunch.
They're not going to make you walk it.
A couple blondes and Mexicans.
Those are beers.
With your hoof?
No chance.
No.
18 holes with cart steak, dinner.
Whole prizes.
Wednesday, June 18th.
Hey, Dean.
It's a scramble.
It's not half prizes.
What?
He's saying that there are whole prizes as in.
instead of that.
You get the...
Good one, Ryan.
Yeah.
What's a shotgun start?
It's when...
You're in small towns.
I shoot guns.
It's like a...
Have you ever been to Western night?
The first shot is you hit the ball
and then the guy tries to take it out
with the 12-gauge.
It's like skate shooting.
Yeah, very similar.
Then you shot gun in a beer.
Can be dangerous.
You only do it on odd holes when they're kind of going the same way.
Right.
Right.
So if you're coming back, it's tough.
So that'll be.
And again, that starts at 1 o'clock.
So you really got your head down to swivel.
Yeah.
Shit, 1258.
Heads up, boys.
Register at the tap room.
We'll see you there.
Did you want to golf in that?
Um,
I got to run past the warden and see what we got that day.
Because, well, they asked us what we want.
Come on out.
Are you going to do it?
Do you guys want to golf?
What are you going to do?
I kind of volunteered us not to golf.
Yeah, you don't like to golf.
I prefer golfing to not golfing, but I think you're the opposite.
Well, the thing is, I thought if we're going to be there,
it's to promote the show,
visibility, that sort of thing.
I thought there'd be more in it if we were just at a hole doing something,
giving out our beer, our Barnburner blonde to golfers as they come through,
shit, talk them.
Is there a Hawaiian tropical?
team that needs an extra player well that's good idea the dumb and tummer yeah it might be that way
oh my god some lucky son of a gun so yeah it's going up on the 18th hey let's do the peter report
presentation of village honda they want that used vehicle yours but they're not going to i mean they're
not pushy about it they want it they're not they're not ringing your doorbell and be like hey i see you
got a uh see you got a twitter
2014 accord sitting out there.
Yummy.
They're not doing that.
I've been watching you in that accord.
It's not the type of behavior that we condone
or that you're going to see from the good folks at Villageonda.
Another professional.
Very professional.
Complementary.
Preezes.
Yeah.
VillageHon.com.
Ryan Pindoo.
Just a absolutely stacked Pinder report with so much happening in the
Can't wait.
courts, you know.
Let's go to Flames Nation.
If anything's happening, it's going to be there.
I mean, writers.
You know.
Oh, talking, HL coaching, the draft and Scotia Place public art.
Trent Cole, great, best mustache for hockey, now officially, best mustache in the league.
Is they looking for a coach?
Did you know that?
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
Good on Trent call.
That's weird because guys down there know that I would be interested.
Have you expressed a formal expression of interest?
The letter?
Open up your AI and see if you can do it.
This could be a project for later in the week.
I feel like we did this once already.
Yeah, we had the old,
at the old place.
Yeah, we could do it again.
That was one of those things.
You always should because when a 2021,
I don't,
we're talking a long time ago in the,
in terms of AI.
It was very new then.
Oh, we should do.
We should get you a cover letter for the flames,
whatever.
I wonder if it wasn't here.
When the coaching job, it was when Miss Love went to Washington.
Wasn't it for GM?
Yeah.
I thought we were in the old studio.
Anyway, so we get the AI to put this.
Oh, this isn't really funny.
This is, this is very good.
Brilliant.
This is better than I could do.
Yeah.
Oh, my.
It was one of my first kind of light bulb moments of AI.
AI, hey, okay.
Jeez, so it's going to take our job at some point.
Okay.
Wow.
That's not.
So that took four seconds.
Yep.
Jeez, wow.
You're right about this.
No school thing.
Yeah.
Get them out.
Yeah.
So, you know, if you're interested in the Scotia Place public art information.
Well, I am.
Programs, yeah.
There, uh, I want some of my pieces to be put up there.
Which piece would you like, what?
Got a lot to juice.
Hold your piece.
And again, it's more, uh,
Pike, oh, yeah, a lot of Pike.
It's more Pike on the Pinder report.
If anyone knows, I was thinking about this yesterday.
Pike would be offended if you heard you talk.
What do you got a problem?
with Pike? What's your Pike problem?
Is reporting so good? We have to talk about it?
No problem at all.
We say Darren Dregor says something we're all excited.
I just sat here and just read off
somebody else's bullshit and how is it
my report? I just thought yesterday you said
as well my problem is so Pike
it's not like you're very... I didn't say my problem
was with Pike. I said the Pinder report is
just based around Pike's opinion so it's
not it's not it's a Scottish
Pike opinion piece. We need a Pike
Statute. Pike Place.
Art, a wrench. It's a huge
ranch outside of coach bike fire.
We do have hockey tomorrow.
It's not going to be.
It's too bad it wasn't a pipe because
Pike's a wrench.
Because you could pipe would work.
Hmm.
All right.
Well, tomorrow we get hockey.
Great.
Just keep this momentum going.
That's the worst part.
Is we sat through a shit round three.
It's all right.
Well, now you get to the fight.
Can't even be excited for this.
Round two was no.
You can be excited for it.
you're going to have to remember thanks for nothing we got some some old friends doing the lord's work
with the panthers we'll get to them in a moment here's your schedule reminder that it's going to take
way too long and be way too painful two days off between two and three there's one way to make it
quick and snappy though yeah florida let's go that's they're home let's go cats 12th take two on
the road and then go home save jet fuel let's go now here's the thing
thing. Do you remember
the Sam Reinhart
Sam Bennett draft?
I do.
The top four
players selected in that
draft all in the final.
I was going to say that was in Philadelphia.
Swass level was what out of ten?
It was high.
With nine? Yeah. Okay. It was high.
Yeah, you see the shorts.
These young whippersnappers aren't sweating yet,
but they're young. There's
former Calgary Hitman
killer Sam Ryan Hart on the right. Aaron Echblad, nice tan. He was always going to fit in in Florida.
There's Sam Bennett. You get a bad shoulder at that time nobody knew. Couldn't do a chin up.
I guess you did know. Yeah. And then some young German on the left that that was the year
there was decided not to screw up a really high pick. That sucks. They could have fuffed that up.
I know. I remember interviewing Eckblad and it was kind of one of those things. You, uh, you're 30-year-old man or what?
You're a man, eh? Yeah. Like you're what, six, four? Like, jaw for
days you're like Jesus been shaving for yeah what 12 years now so you guys just talking to my tax
advisor we're gonna move some stuff like holy shit this guy 30 story with you pal Jesus got to take my kid
to this new daycare like what he's 18 everyone matures different rates dean guess so still waiting
uh now we mentioned jake ottinger in the awkward poll nobody and i mean nobody had a better
view of that than ray ferraro who does the color on the east
ESPN broadcasts rinkside.
And as you can see on the bottom of the image,
he had to sit right next to Jake Ottinger,
who went to the room, then came back,
and had to listen to Ray Ferrero break down the pull all game.
Here's Ray.
I do a game.
I think my only way to do it is to be as honest as I can.
And I judge the act, not the actor.
So when Ottinger got pulled,
he went back to the locker room.
And then when he comes back out,
one of the first things we show is like,
the two goals and then him getting pulled. Now, I'm well aware he's a foot away. And if this makes
say, I don't think about it. I just like, I'm going to do my job and I hope I hope to hell he knows
that I'm being fair. It's the best place to do a game, I think by far, but there are times and when
Jake was sitting there, that that's uncomfortable for sure. So when you say that they are showing the
last two goals, Jake's sitting there next to you and he can see clear his day. Well, this is about me.
Oh, absolutely. Like when the goalie sits there, they can't see down in the corner. So some of the game, he's just watching it on the monitor. And so when we go to the highlight, there's nothing to watch. So he's just watching to see what the highlights are. And oh, yeah, guess what? It's you again. Oh, God. Oh, man. Ray's great. That was a tough night for Jake. Yeah. Both those things are true. Yeah. No, I love Ray. He's so good at it. And you know what? That's,
try that you'd probably try to soften the touch right if you're sitting well it's very early
the game of peter to bore maybe a risky you'd be trying to do whatever you a little bit of a
if it was the other way it's had it was time real shit goals there I'm the guy to my immediate left
this guy here his shoulder pads just right rubbing against my ear he was awful tonight and you got
to wonder about his future at this club yeah tough uh two
signings last couple days. We get chep to speed.
Gianni Gord signed a monster
Chris Tanna of like extension with
Tampa six
years. He's already, what,
32, 33? 2.33 million.
That's an incredibly low cap hit
in tax-friendly state of Florida.
And six years where maybe they
just robert Island this guy
if things go sideways. How old is this
turkey? It'll carry him, I believe, until
it's 39-year-old season. Right.
I'm in.
I was going to say that's kind of like one of those managing or coaching things.
I'll last two or three years and still get paid for another four in the back end.
Why not?
Perfect.
You want to suppress scouting, Chris?
Congrats, Yanni.
Special assistant to the special assistant to the gym.
You like that.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
You're living in Florida.
No, I mean, when they were here.
Six more years, a five-star hotels.
Hey, right, we'd like you to go do some junior some scouting.
Scouting.
How did that work when you were going to Red Deer for on a scouting trip?
I don't know.
I don't remember.
Didn't you hop in with somebody?
Somebody was going up to Red Deer to watch.
Was it Jim Playfair?
Sutter and Steve.
Which Sutter?
Steve Leach.
Which?
Ron, Rich?
One of the twins?
Yeah.
Okay.
So you're going to.
You're going to Red Deer to watch some draft eligible players.
Brandon wheat kings rebels Steve Leach our Sutter Rhett Warner and what did you bring with you a laptop or some notes or a pen or like I had a cooler you got a cooler of beer oh dear now it's got to it's a road trip can't make this shit up you're the fucking best I felt like assistant assistant coach gig over with the flames you say go for some uh
Martini's at original Joe's.
Hey guys,
just lining up this head coaching HL job.
Wondering if we can meet at wine night at merchants to talk about the job.
I got I got a skybox at the Cowboys tent.
Maybe we talk about the job for this kid rock concerts.
You imagine they're sitting there.
When's warmer coming to see he's coming.
Yeah, yeah.
I could just pull here.
Is he got a cooler?
So how many were in there?
Jack, if we're going, whoa, just a couple.
I'm the rookie.
I got to contribute.
Just remember, we blackballed him.
That's what he said the other day.
Two idiots he's been working with, blackballed him.
I love it.
God bless you.
Noah Kate signed a deal.
I don't think anyone cares, but Craig Conroy and Morgan Frost might.
They're pretty similar players, similar age, similar point production.
Will it be a similar four times four-ish deal for a centerman, better at defense than
offense, kind of slotted in the third line?
Do it.
Do what?
Morgan Frost.
Morgan Frost four times four, do it.
Would Frost do it?
You'd probably on a shorter term deal, maybe it takes four?
Isn't they make him five?
Is he?
Yeah, I know, but I think he's due for a race.
Guys don't like going backwards.
They sure don't.
I should know what he makes.
Yeah, I know, but we've stopped carrying so long ago.
God, have we mailed it in, yeah.
I mean, I think he's still with the flames, isn't he?
Connie still GM?
Connie's still GM, right?
What is it?
How long does it take?
Internet down?
I'm looking for them.
My eyeballs are terrible.
It's a contract.
I was not going to show up.
He's not on.
Christ,
all my thing.
He needs a contract.
That's Ryan, back to you.
Back to me,
guys.
It is an interesting question because Frost didn't show it to me.
2.1 million last year.
That's it?
Yes.
He's cheapest chips.
Two-year deal.
Give him four times four.
That's more than two.
That's a big raise, right?
He's not going backwards.
I'm not giving him that much.
Oh, Darren Ferris is this agent?
Great guy.
I shouldn't say that.
He might be a great guy.
He just said,
he said he's a great guy.
What that's the problem of that?
I said it with a,
maybe he's an assholes.
Have you worried about?
No,
I said it with kind of some sarcastic kind of a.
You?
Connor's airy.
Four times four?
That would be lovely.
Yeah, geez, you know what?
You like four so much.
Let's do it eight years.
Yeah.
Until the end of time we'll give you four.
Give you the old,
uh,
Bobby Binea deal.
Yeah.
Do you guys believe in the broadcaster jinks?
Nope.
Yes.
I don't know what it is.
I don't believe in jinks.
Play the club.
You know, I'm just going to say it.
I'm not going to worry about the broadcaster jinks.
David Tandex got a shutout going.
He's looking for a second shutout of the season there.
Shut out, shut out, shut out, shut out.
I can't set it.
Can't ruin it.
It's up to the guys on the ice.
I know on baseball times guys, guys try not to mention the know.
hitter.
Nobody talks to the pitcher and they come back to the dugout.
I'm not sure what it's like in hockey on the bench, but
I'm going to go ahead and just say the word, shout out to
go brave.
Try and break the jinx here.
We'll learn something.
It's been solid here tonight against the ghost pirates who have struggled to
connect offensively and struggle
to connect on the power play as well.
McCullen with a drop pass shot on and they score.
Okay, I'll take that one.
That's my bad.
Change the tune real quick.
you know i'm not here in the booth that can't affect anything on the ice shut out shut
shut out sheaths hell honky here ghost pirates and obviously you know anything i say
won't affect what's going on the ice scars uh that's my bad i'm sorry you know that's one
thing i really love about play by play guys is when they really make it about them you know
really put themselves into it until they're like they're yeah i've been thinking about
this thing when this guy scores i'm gonna go on this like six-minute diatribe without knowing
and this is not fair to him i feel like that guy's probably a shithead
I feel for a Tendek, the goalie there.
I do too.
Totally.
He was doing great.
It's not his fault.
I should go without a limb that far.
Just start land.
Just feels like a guy that don't need to hang out with that guy.
Yeah, I'm good without that.
Yeah, but you're one of those.
Who do you want to hang out with?
You're too cool for anyone in school that went to broadcasting school.
You guys.
That's who I want to hang out with.
No.
I got a new steak marinade.
I'm trying to know.
You might want to come on.
What about a beer batter for fish?
Steak and fish together.
And to all the
Northern Saskers and Albertans.
We're praying for you.
Goodness gracious. It's on fire up there.
Things are not good.
Come on rain.
Thinking about you guys.
You need some rain.
Rough.
I've got something to lighten the moods.

He started eating and then it's owner pulled him away from the bowl.
Two pieces of kibble?
You're done.
You're out of here.
Dylan Barkin.
Good luck at pop there.
Look at that.
He's not messing around.

Sorry, Jack.
It would be perfect.
We'll have to do all 32 tomorrow to punish you all.
I don't know, man.
Like it's June.
I don't know how we saved that for the Pinder Report.
It's great stuff.
It should have been our lead.
We did this whole UFA.
how are you going to rebuild your roster?
Jack, do you have any comments?
How are people like in the dogs?
And we had Licholai Yellers just sitting there waiting?
Yeah, yeah.
Tyler Toferry.
Sweet.
Happy birthday to our good friend, Pat Steinberg.
I believe it's his birthday today.
Is it really?
Let's check it out.
Is he still our friend?
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
Because there's McLevin.
Oh, I changed your name to.
McLeaven?
McLeaven?
What kind of a stupid name is?
Fogel what are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?
Oh, they let you pick any name you want when you get down there.
And you landed on Mcloven.
I was between that and Muhammad.
Why the fuck would it be between that or Muhammad?
Why don't you pick a common name like a normal person?
Muhammad is the most commonly used name on earth.
Read a fucking book for once.
Fogel, have you ever actually met anyone named Muhammad?
Have you actually ever met anyone named McLevin?
No, that's why you picked a dumb fucking name.
Fuck you.
Give me that.
All right, you look like a future pedophile on this picture, number one.
Number two, it doesn't even have a little.
doesn't even have a first name it just said Mcloven what name one name who are you seal
Fobo his ID says you're 25 years old why wouldn't you just put 21 man

so happy birthday
Are we allowed to do that?
No, we'll find out.
Sorry, Jack.
A little editing project copy later today.
AI or not, I've been seeing this reoccurring character.
I feel like this might be real.
There's been an episode with a kangaroo trying to get somewhere.
There was animal.
Got me.
Last couple of days ago, he's having a tough time at security and customs.
Remember the old saying, Dean?
remember half of what you hear what
no none of what you hear
remember the Titans no and now you just
can't believe anything yeah I know we're in a post fact era
it's true you ever seen an elephant in a convenience store at
yeah okay Thailand
it was painted
Jesus Christ
well who's stopping it
I made it what are you doing sorry we're at capacity sir
I'm coming in.
Where are the nuts?
Loves peanuts.
Do you have any salted in the shell?
Do they like peanuts?
I think so.
God, they love peanuts.
They love them.
They hoover them up.
Cartoons have taught me anything.
That's right.
And they hate mice.
Let's jump to 97, Jack.
A lot of kidball and softball in our lives.
Oh, it's so great.
Okay, we won't skip.
Let's go to this.
You can't last minute.
It's not his fault.
That's your fault.
Well, Rets into parkour.
So we always want to show the parkour.
I'm not into parkour, but my kids had an artist at school the other day.
That's a musician, really good.
And he was into parkour and he broke his ankles.
Both at the school.
Yeah, jumped off of something that was a little high.
Like this?
Yeah.
I missed the bus.
Now, you're probably going to get moving.
There's cameras everywhere in London.
I'm assuming this is.
London. Get going. Is that illegal?
Yeah, is that legal or not, Dean, to jump on the roof of a bus at a bus stop?
I don't think it's in the rulebook. I don't know British law that well.
Jack? It's incredibly boring. Yeah, let's move.
When are we going to get those kind of buses?
Why don't she's a double decker and go jump on one?
Martin. Marloup? Yeah, they got to take out all the telephone lines and lights and
movement other block story higher so we can fit the double deckers in. Just another five, 10 years out of the pile.
I'll tell you what. Thank God there was a guy standing there today.
Oh, yeah. Right by the pit because he put his,
arm up. He gave me one of these.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
As I was, could have drove right in.
I might have drove right into the safety first.
A huge crevasse.
Thanks to him.
Yeah.
We can have a scintillating show today.
Kid ball, let's go.
I feel like I would like this kid.
Come, Curtis.
Everyone's cheering for Curtis.
No.
Cling it, Curtis.
That's right.
Come on now. Let him throw it around, Curtis.
Got a hustle now, Kurt.
Kurt.
Kurt!
A thriller at the end.
Head kind of snout back there.
Come on, Kurt.
I'm worried about that left hamstring.
No, just look at the ball of diamonds there.
That's quality dirt they got.
I was going to say, that's not the dusty shale we got here.
That looks moist.
Some bad bounces on that infield.
I'm messing, though.
Good job by the third base coach.
Yes, send.
Gets end.
Just beat the throw.
Curtis didn't want to go.
he wasn't going to go.
Didn't want to leave.
Didn't want to risk it.
No.
Not a risk taker.
It's nice to watch someone that's the best in the world of the craft, no matter what it is.
Like this show?
100% like this show.
It's the best of what they do, not just some slubs.
This guy's probably the best of this, which is making incredible bagels and doing this thing.
These bags are so good.
We're impressed.
We're playing this clip, of course, because let's drop off a few dozen.
There is nothing better than.
Is this a Coggan?
Montreal style.
I don't know what it is.
There's plenty.
I'm very hungry.
God,
there's not good bagels.
Oh,
if you put it in front of them.
Do you like bagels?
What?
It's a dancey doughy piece of shit.
Oh.
Go stand outside.
Montreal style bagels?
What's the difference than normal?
The way they cook them.
What does that,
but I don't know.
What's the end result?
How is it different?
Oh,
it's chewier and crisperier on the outside.
It's like a little sweet.
All right.
Jack and I are sour at this loser.
All he does is win, apparently, which is pissing us off.
Yeah, what the hell is this all about?

We could have won one of those.
And so he only bought four tickets ever.

I know the odds are astronomical, he said, any news release.
I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.
You got some dough to do it.
Yeah, you got it.
Hey, good for you, but.
Some of the nerds went out and did the odds.

Yeah, I just tapped out.
Started getting hard and I was like, yeah, let's just go drinking tonight.
It doesn't seem like it's worth it.
Did you hang around, Lethbridge or did you just get out?
No, I didn't hang around at all.
Too windy.
You missed the wind.
Yeah.
It is windy.
Yeah.
Um, we'll hear from Tommy Wilden.
Coming up?
Yes.

Jay's opening three games set with the Phillies.
All right.
All right.
It's been red hot.
Oh, good.
Average up to 301.
3.01, Dean.
That's over 300.
I think.
We'll get back to on that.
Plus 150 for two total bases.
That does not include walks.
A double would do it.
Two singles would do it.
or maybe a grand slam, but do it.
Also, Vladdy, we're going to play the home run game with him.
He's at home, swinging a hot bat.
I like it when it's close to plus 600.
We had it in the 300s the other day.
Let's go, Vladdy.
There you go.

Is he a superstar?
What?
Yeah.
I would say he's comfortably a top 15 player in the majors,
but I don't know if that makes a super star.
superstar or not, I don't know.
I think he could be.
Is that including pitchers?
I think he's like top tannin salary.
He's, I get that.
I just try to build the case at where he would.
I know you are.
I don't know.
Yeah.
He's Cuspy.
If he has a year that you're like,
everything comes together, yeah, he's a superstar.
Yeah.
He's hoping.
Doesn't.
Oh, who cares?
It's baseball.
Oh, Teddy Jr.'s money.
Who cares?
Yep.
Yeah, who cares.
On five in a row, Phillies have lost four in a row.
Philly's got the better pitcher today.
We'll see what goes.
Nice.
Well, make sure you get to bed early tonight, Dean.
Big game.
Tomorrow, big day.
Yeah, game day.
You carb-loading tonight, Red?
Yeah, for sure.
Okay, what do you eat?
You love bagels.
Oh, by the way, I'm not eating on Monday.
So don't bring pizza.
Mondays are a day off.
So Monday's pizza day, Jack?
My bread.
Geez, I brought in stuff the other day.
I don't eat sweets.
old Jack, I said, I brought in, went to the bakery,
brought in cheese buns and stuff. Pinder was the only one
that ate stuff. I did not have that on my bingo card. I was kind of surprised.
Those cheese buns did not make it to my house.
I ate like five of them in my car.
Good for you.
Wouldn't he one in the studio? You know, good on there. Some of that fancy brisket
you boys been making down south.
Oh, yeah, he is on the brisket.
So those ass clowns that were at the 999, they're the ones
making this brisket? Yeah. How many of your months and
he's even finished it.
One.
Out of how many, five?
Five.
Yes, five.
And these are the guys that apparently did the 99 and 30 minutes.
Right.
No.
It's better.
Stories changed.
Changed your tune a little bit.
Yeah, tomorrow, the Stanley Cup gets underway in Edmonton.
They got in this year.
They will be wound up.
And you'll listen, rightfully so.
Go have fun.
They're hosting game one of the Stanley Cup file.
Don't be afraid to lose.
We'll love our picks tomorrow.
We'll do our picks.
Oh, gosh.
A lot of deliberation.
That'll keep me up.
I'm doing the noodles thing where you've got to put the lineup over the lineup.
The spine of the team.
Yeah.
And we'll talk to him tomorrow.
Perfect.
Well, thank God.
Thank goodness.
Yep.

Yeah, good. I'm trying to blend them

wearing a hat on your show these days it seems but it's also to uh to tone down the hair with a little bit
of wind outside today so keeps me somewhat tidy and also promotes the brand right i love it and the
horseshoe that fits in nicely with the spruce meadows the swag is uh they've done a really good job
tommy quite impressed uh you guys are a nice little run of form you've won uh four in a row before that
draw at forge which is a notorious notoriously difficult place to play and it was actually cool to
be sitting at a pub watching it on TSN and being like, oh, yeah, yeah, this, you know,
watching it go with buddies and explaining about the league and that rivalry, which has been the best
in the league in its seven years. What have you made of the recent run of play? And I guess your
takeaways from that weekend draw at Hamilton. Yeah, I think what's been really nice is,
I think since we lost to Ottawa when we had, you know, down 3-1, lost Brad Camden to a red card,
but tried to stay in the fight.
I think we responded well.
We had a three-game week,
and we played Edmonton Scottish,
and then I think everything,
we blew the doors right open.
So six different scorers.
I think it was nice there to see some of the young players
we've got coming through.
So your Nico Moroniaks and your Max pipegrasses
scoring their first goals,
your Michael Harms getting assists.
James McGlinchie, 17 at the time,
getting his debut.
I think that's shown what we've got underneath.
And what that did,
was that gave us that bit of confidence going into York,
where we got our first win of the season,
first away win on the road.
And we've been notoriously good on the road the last couple of years,
which is interesting because the year we won the regular season in 2023,
we're incredible at home and OK on the road.
Last year, and again, we started this year,
it been really good on the road.
So we put back-to-back results against Pacific and Valour
and won 4-0.
And again, four different scores and all the games.
So I think what's been nice, Ryan,
And is yes, your stars are shining, your tobies, your muses, your Camargos,
but then there's others that are chipping in, your varlings of this world,
your Levi Langs that are chipping in with goals.
And we're keeping clean sheets for the most part.
The game against Forge was always going to play out that way.
I think of all the games we've played, and there's a lot of games we played.
Only two of them have ever finished by more than one goal apart.
So they're that tight.
It's razor thin.
And so we knew that they would, after we scored early, they would get a response at them.
But like always, you know, coming away with a point at their place means they don't jump ahead of us in the standings.
And they also have to come to our house here twice.
And I think that puts us in good stead as we enter the second round of games.
Yeah.
Look, you mentioned the real clean sheets that Marco's kept.
The only, you came with a huge couple of saves in the second half against Forge, if I recall correct.
you end that one-one-one what's Marco Carducci meant to you here in year seven he's one of the
the few OGs that have been there since day one yeah I think goalkeeping gets better with age it's a
it's a specialized position that a lot of it is instinct-based so you've got to be in these scenarios time
after time it was like you know the penalty save he made in conquer calf you know he's faced a lot
of penalties and not necessarily being the best but he's starting to read things the more and more he's in
those involvements, his one-on-one ability now is better, he's off the line. But his distribution
is always an asset for us because he gives us the extra man and possession. So whether we play out
through the back and he's the third man, or we play direct and try and release our attackers early,
he's got a great passing range to be able to do that. But he's maturing into just a calm leader
that when it is a bit chaotic, he just brings the tempo down. And yeah, he's, you know, even the game
here against Valo 4-0 probably flattered us at times because he's made a couple of big stops and
saves to protect that shutout but the week before you know he he didn't have much to do against
pacific so i think it's about sharing the energy at this point but marco's been terrific in when he's
been needed uh you had a i don't want to say similar but there's certainly some familiarity with
a slower start to the season and then hitting stride once you get into may june that felt like
last year. That is what's happened this year. You've been on a really nice run after a just
okay start. Is that just the way things have fallen or do you see some similarities with your
group where you start to find your form a little later in the year for whatever reason?
Must be the coaching. It's the only common denominator. Yeah, it's a funny one that, right?
Because I think because we start early. So we came out the first six weeks of our, we came back
like as soon as New Year's day was done. Lad's were in. Like the,
the third of January in, we're preparing for that, you know, February battle with Pumas.
And then after that, you kind of finish at the end of February, and you're like, well,
a little bit of a break. And then we've got to get the lads up again. So from an emotional
perspective, the forming storm in Norman and performing, you rise and then you dip. And I think
what it's taken us is we have a certain way of the way we want to play. And we're very principle-based.
And sometimes we get it wrong at the start because, you know, we're giving
way errors. I think there was an error leading to the Vancouver goal and things like that.
But in the long race, we find that those are the things that break down teams when you play
them four times. So if we play very pragmatic at the start and tried to grind out the odd 1-0,
that's when you do it at the end, the end of the season. You've got to try and get through
these high presses to low blocks. And I think that's what we've been working on. And also how we
defend, you know, defending inside what we call the fun or anything inside the posts.
We're very good at that. And Jay, my brother, works a lot with
our defensive unit on that. So it's repetition is the motherhood of mastery and it takes us a bit
of time to get flowing. And then when our stars start putting in the goals like they have been doing,
then the defenders do their job, it's football becomes an easy game.
You've got some, it looks a little windy and cloudy and overcast out at Echo Field this morning,
but Sunday's looking stupendous, like 30 degrees, screaming hot. That might not be ideal for someone
that's got to run 10 kilometers and chase the ball around.
But I'll tell you what, if there's a game that might sell out this year,
it sounds like this one's on great pace.
Now you've got the weather.
You're playing great.
That's got to feel good.
Yeah, it's trending towards over the 5,000 mark, that's for sure.
Obviously, our capacity 6,000 unless it's a final where we bring in an extra 1,000.
But I think what's great about this is people who come to the games and you know you've been here
and you talk to your friends in the pub when you watch it live.
anybody that's come here and we see it in the airports all the time it goes from who are you like they
see the crest but when you're on that flight either out of calgary or coming back people go oh great
result people are now starting to see the brand know the league seeing the results and seeing what we've
done and when they come to spruce meadows to experience it it's just such a really cool experience
i think we're unique in terms of what the sporting environment and the landscape that we provide
here and then add to that that it is the minor soccer game and there's a lot of lads here that have come through
the CMS system and the Alberta soccer system.
And they're going to be wearing their jerseys reporting to the game.
So I think there's a nice passing of the torch.
And we always say that, you know, Nick Ledger would use that saying a lot when he does
the camps about if you can see it, you can be it.
And I know, you've brought your twins to the game and they'll see your Ali Moosies.
You know, they'll see Shemit Shones or Sergio Camargo and kind of something about them will
liken them to it.
And, you know, I know my son, Jacks, likes to watch Toby Walshefsky because he's a number nine.
And they want to be like them.
So I think that's a great passing of the torch and look forward to a great day.
Yeah, it's a good reminder why this league's here and what it's here to do.
Nick Ledgerwood had to go over and play in Germany as a teenager to try to chase his dreams.
And now in 2025, if he was 16 years old, this would be a league that would be all over him.
And he'd be likely either getting or soon to be getting big minutes in this league.
and we've seen players purchased from this league and go on to great heights,
you know, playing on our men's national team, moving to MLS,
heading over to Europe into top leagues.
It's pretty impressive in seven years how much can the landscape can change in this country.
Just a thought on the state and the health of the league.
I know you had to fight through COVID early.
I think you'd love to have a few more teams at this point.
There is a new commissioner after a short run from the last one,
but a successful one.
Where are you at on the overall health of the league now,
just a year out from the World Cup.
Yeah, I think it was a case of the pandemic,
was never in the risk matrix.
Ian Allison always likes to say that.
And we're fortunate we have an incredible ownership group.
The Southern family have been incredible
in terms of promoting the sport, this community,
and what we're trying to do as Canadians.
Where the leagues are, I think,
when we've done Colonna as CPL on tour
and Quebec cities being similar in LaValle,
I think what you're seeing is why we're doing that
is because they're markets that are interested.
And I think what's happening now is ensuring that it's not just a really good ownership
group because FC Edmonton was a team in the club that had lasted for 10 years in the NASL
and then obviously came across to CPL.
But if you don't have everything from, you know, an ownership group that has, you know,
a decent amount of wealth to, you know, a facility of your own.
And I think what you're seeing with these size facilities, the 5, 6, 7,000s are probably the best starting point
so that it becomes a really good atmosphere.
And, you know, the CFL stadiums are fun to play in,
but it doesn't do the league justice in terms of the amount of people there.
So, Forge, for example, I think there's six, seven thousand people in there,
but it doesn't necessarily feel like that, even though it's a cracking stadium.
So I think what they're doing now with any clubs that are coming in,
making sure there is a model that becomes sustainable.
And I think once the World Cup comes through our shores,
I think the ripple effect will be very similar to how the MLS experienced after they launched
after the 1994 World Cup.
It takes time.
Mark Noonan always tells the story
that he was working for the MLS in those times.
And after the first eight years,
he commissioned the letter to be going out publicly
saying we're folding the league.
And there was only a couple of the owners said,
hang on a minute, let's try this, this and this.
They got together.
And now we see what we see
where you've got your messies in there
and a team owned by Beckham
and you've got superstars going in there
and crowds that are just massive.
So it does take.
take time in North America. We're competing against some incredible sports here with hockey and
NBA and NFL and CFL and all those. It's just, it's, it's, it's what happened. So we've just
got to be a bit patient, but the overall perspective is still positive. Good, nice little run at
home with another trip to Halifax squeezed in there. You've also got the second leg of your
Canadian championship tie with Vancouver FC coming up early in July. You excited about that? I know
the, it is a unique atmosphere. I'd call it probably one of the most, I guess, famous or
maybe what would you call it like a flagship type venue for this league at this point.
I know the commissioner spoke very high, but especially after the final.
Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean, our place, I'm always going to be biased to our fans because
I feel an energy and a connection and I think we have a great atmosphere here. I think Halifax
is similar going there as an away opponent.
You know that they want to give you a hard time
and there's the East Coast banter,
but afterwards you might see them, you know,
when you go into the restaurant downtown,
they'll give you a bit banter,
but there's a lot of respect and admiration there
that it's left at the gates when they leave the stadium.
I think our performance there was very surgical
in terms of, you know, being in the game,
scoring, you know, just before half time.
Then, you know, to get the two goals from Ali Moussi,
just killed them off because it was a tight game.
But they're at the top of the league
or near the top of the league right now.
They just felt a second.
They're making this league interesting.
What's good about our travel schedule as well,
right, with going and playing them again this month
is we'll have done, you know,
we've done five of the East Coast trips already.
You know, that will be the sixth.
Then they have to come to our house.
And then with it, the travel gets shorter
and it's massive in terms of energy management.
As it pertains to then the Canchance,
You know, the important thing in any first leg is stay in the tie.
You know, it's no different in the Conquercaf one.
We learned from the Orlando game where, you know,
you can't win a game in the first leg,
but you can lose it because I think when we were three no there,
it didn't make for much of a game.
It was a big mountain to climb when we went down to Orlando.
We did something different in Pumas and even the way we performed in the second half,
even down to 10 men.
It was remarkable.
If Ali Musi scores that goal at the end,
we've done the unthinkable and pushed it to extra time against the
a giant of Mexico.
So with Vancouver, we knew that it would be their cup final, and it was.
They played very well against us.
They played tough.
They've got to come to us in July 8th for the second leg.
And then we'll probably have a few more bodies back, not only from international duty
that are around now, but from injury.
And when you have your cobsers and your Goutis and your Michael Bulldissimos and your
Bradley Camden's available again, that's a strong squad.
Yeah, no question.
You went out of your way to mention them by name earlier, but I did want to circle back on
Toby Worshefsky and Ali Moosey, just how nice it must be to have two guys combining already for,
what is it, nine goals this year?
Like, they've been dynamic.
Yeah, we've, you know, we use a lot of things in training that will replicate situations they'll find themselves in.
And I said, you know, my brother works on the defensive side and Nick Ledgwood works on the
attacking side.
And then I'll bring it together for the team cohesion.
But a lot of situations we're putting them in is they're getting double team now.
So if Toby's got two, there's a man wide open.
If Ali's got two, there's a man wide open.
And we saw that in the final when Sergio Camargo scored.
People started forgetting about him because they were that obsessed with stopping Toby,
stopping Moosey.
But they're still scoring, and they're scoring in different ways.
I mean, you look at the goal that Toby scored on the weekend.
That's just him.
He does some magical things.
You know, Ali has the same thing.
So to have a couple of Mavericks in the team,
then you have people like Shemit Shome and, you know,
Sergio and Jay Edmund, Nicholas Veiling, Fraser Edd,
that play a very functional role for us to allow those guys to do what they do.
And yeah, they've been a joy to work with because both great lads as well
and add something to the locker room.
Well, we look forward to the game of the weekend.
Weather should be great.
The form of the club has been outstanding.
Congrats on the recent run.
Enjoy this nice run of play where most of it's at home over the next month.
And we can't wait to see you down to that cofield, Tommy.
right sounds good thanks right
