Starting point is 00:00:12 Hello, everyone. Welcome to the program. It is a Monday. It is Barnburner, Boomer, Warner, and Pinder here to get things going for you to kick off another week and another Monday and another show as, yeah, Rets moved on to the NFL season. It's all, all bills all the time. It's coming up quick, fellas. You got mini camps, optional camps going on? What do we got? Some autographs down there. Any walk-ons? You're going to walk on this year? Hey, if Chase Claypool can play for the bills, who can't? I'm just like Canadian. Hey, Chase? Yeah, just like you.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Let's go. Because the NFL has that Canadian ratio thing too, right? Yeah, they've got to get the numbers on that. So many Canadians on there. So you'd have a, you'd have a leg up there, Warner. You'd have a leg up. We're in round number two of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now, does anyone, I'd never really, I mean, it's, is it janky?
Starting point is 00:01:08 When there's a round one game and around two game. and actually the round two game goes before the round one game. Do we have any, because it was, I was reading online, some people say, this kind of get your, get your, get your poop in a group, NHL. Well, first off, I mean, we're outraged about everything. So clearly this is violated someone's ability to live on this planet the way they'd like to. They're on the other conference. I don't think it matters at all.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Yeah. Yeah. The other, the other Eastern Conference game goes tonight. What are we talking about here? It's like one day ahead of their next opponent. I think it just was that it's round two, but it's round one, but it's round one, but it's round too. I don't know. It's not as as the Canucks and Flames playing
Starting point is 00:01:45 three games after the playoffs had started that were regular season contest. That was CFL. That was Jayfley. That was that last year. No, it was COVID, buddy. Come on. They canceled all those games for COVID. Well, yeah, because I remember that, but it feels more recently than no, than that. It was three years.
Starting point is 00:02:03 It was a long ago. Because, but yeah, definitely it's one thing when your team is, or the team you're following, whatever, your favorite team is out for the last few weeks of the season or last few games. It's another when they're still playing meaningless games while the playoffs are Oh, hey, we've got playoff hockey here, but sliding over to this channel where we've got two meaningless fucking games between teams that aren't going to playoff. 80, yes.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Oh, my God. Yeah, yeah. That was the worst. It does seem like it wasn't that long ago. Right? It was three years. Playoffs. Dutter it, et cetera, it just come in.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Yeah, it said it was the midseason replacement for Jeff Ward. Win. Be really, really good the next year. Yeah, that was oilers. Garbage the next year and then last year. Like, it's a while back already. So if it was garbage last year, then what was it this year? It was much better.
Starting point is 00:03:00 It was better, but it was still at the end of the day. I mean, honestly, we... It was a planned out garbage. That's what it was. Yes, it was garbage day, so we'd taken the trash out, actually. Yeah, you'd rented one of those bins. in the driveway. Instead of chasing it down the street,
Starting point is 00:03:15 the ship flying all over the place. That's right. Yeah. Yeah, far more, far more respectful. It was a much more watchable season. The group the year before was despicable. And it looked like they'd quit.
Starting point is 00:03:27 This year it was like they're young. There's a talent deficiency. But look at them try hard. And gosh, we're seeing the kids. That's fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Yeah. People liked coming to the rink this year. Maybe. a little more than the year before. Yeah, I think so. I'm not sure. It feels so long ago. That's how it,
Starting point is 00:03:47 you always think when you get into round three in the Stanley Cup final, then you think back to round one. It's like, geez, remember when Washington was playing or whatever? So, so long ago. So now to sit here and even talk about
Starting point is 00:03:57 the flames playing, it feels like so long ago. So long ago that we were talking about the sharks and Game 82 against the sharks. And Wolf and all that sort of. Had to win that, didn't you? Or jazz. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Well, anyway, we're here to get into a few. Now, programming note, for those of you who tune in every Monday, we'll watch the clock. If you watch it live or whatever, you just come in on a minute, Frank Zarevelli, daily face off, the whole insider thing. A bit of a fluid situation today. Isn't dehydrated? No, not that type of fluid. We're not sure.
Starting point is 00:04:35 We're not, our confidence is middle of the road in terms of, having him or not having him today. He has a thing. This thing has taken him away from his own show today, but he may be finished with the thing with enough time to join us. So the thing's totally diarrhea, right? I didn't ask. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:56 He didn't offer. I didn't ask. Okay. So we'll see. Now that we're all up to speed, we can continue with the show. We will have a Pinder report coming up. Oh, gosh. But there was a match.
Starting point is 00:05:11 that was played on Saturday night. And it had to have been one of those ones where everyone was watching. Did everyone watch? No. I didn't watch it. I was at a charity gala thing that did not have TV screens. Not ideal, but it was what it was. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Okay. Well, Rhett, did you watch? No? Yeah, I did. Okay. Jack, did you watch? Every minute because I fell asleep listening to P.K. Oh, the ESPN broadcast.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Yeah, after the end of the third, so I missed the goal. But I saw it. Talking about his hammer. Jack, were you watching Game 7 Saturday? Yes, I did. I had the double screen going. I had the basketball and the hockey. The basketball.
Starting point is 00:06:00 What, what, uh, the nuggets and timber wolves. Are you a big, uh, hooper? You're hooper in a dimer? I like watching the nuggets. I like Yokic, but this Edwards guy's been really good, too. So it's a good series. Tony. Can you hear that?
Starting point is 00:06:17 I heard of a dog there. It's Buster and the Bear. They're into a bit of a row, apparently. Buster and the Bear, that sounds like a great cartoon. Yeah, I should write a kid's book. Anyway, so, copper, fellas. Who had copper? Copper, right, that was,
Starting point is 00:06:41 well, that was, uh, from Detroit, Jason Lackenfor, right? Was that Jason Lacken for it? Oh, that's right. In Baltimore. Yeah. And as soon as he was wrapping up the, the segment, Copper knew that was like his Pavlovian thing. Oh, it's time.
Starting point is 00:06:56 We're getting to go outside now because, but he's done talking about Joe Flacco. So he's going to take me outside now. So anyway, intonation would change and yeah, lacking for his voice at the very end of the interview. And he's like, shit,
Starting point is 00:07:08 that's my time. Yeah. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Didn't copper have his own, Instagram? Twitter account or something.
Starting point is 00:07:17 There's no. Yeah. Well, now he's in here. It's never dull. Retro, it's never dull. There's the bear. Put bear in your lap again. He's too big. He's too heavy. Too big.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Come here. Too many, Truff. Too many. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Come on. Yeah, big bastard. I don't know why this brings me so much joy. Hey, what's up? Wow. It's because booms in his happy place. I'm doing. Hey.
Starting point is 00:07:53 I'm doing a show. It's the YouTube there. Doing a show. All right. Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh, yeah, Leif's from Saturday. But so to my point, it just felt like you follow along on social media. People are texting.
Starting point is 00:08:09 You're texting the Leaf fans in your life. You know, how's you? How are you hanging in there? How are you doing? It felt like it was one of those things where the hockey world was watching this game. Because either way, Boston or Toronto, somebody's run of bad luck in game sevens. or maybe beyond that, was going to continue and somebody was going to get over a hump.
Starting point is 00:08:27 And for Boston, if they were, probably a little better than if Toronto. Like Toronto for sure don't lose game seven. But Boston, you know, don't lose it either because you dip, you dumped out of a 3-1 series lead a year ago. You do it this year. You'll be the first team in pro sports, really, that's ever done that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:08:47 So fellas, come on now. Just don't do it. and it didn't take long. I was kind of disappointed. I found myself oddly kind of cheering for the Leafs in this one. I don't know if the Leafs winning, it's no lose really because they can get crushed in the next round or the next or the next and you can still have success
Starting point is 00:09:10 when it comes to having Leafs fans have their hearts ripped out. That's where it is. Yeah. So I would just over a minute in. Like two minutes. Is it two minutes? Like a hundred and anybody. Somebody had it down to the second.
Starting point is 00:09:22 It was, yeah, okay, fairly, fairly quick. Anyway. And not a goal that I think the Leafs would be happy to give off. I think they fell asleep. Kind of a weird dump into. I mean, not super weird, but you're like, oh, okay, I guess it could be. By design, though, right? Like, that was a...
Starting point is 00:09:42 The only reason I ask or question it is because Lindholm was going off and not watching... What? Humpus? Hampus. Humpus. Going off after. And it didn't look like he expected a play out of it.
Starting point is 00:10:01 You watch his reaction. He's like, oh, that's a dump in. I'll just get a change. Yeah. Anyway. Because there were other, there was other videos. It's like, the Bruins have been doing this since, like, Tori Krug has been doing this.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Dump it far corner, bank it off. So either way, whether it's, uh, on purpose or by design or not. It doesn't matter. Uh, Leif's did not have. have the intel on it, if it was a design play, or if it was just the dump in, they didn't play it very well. No. Play it, play it better than that.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Mitch Marner getting crushed as is kind of commonplace. It's a Monday, so Mitch Marner must be getting destroyed in Toronto. Morgan Riley, not getting a ton of praise for how he handled it's Ilya Samsonov, who he didn't think was going to play in this game. I did play. Another twist in the injury front. It seemed like he didn't really play. play it that well. It shouldn't be the goal that ends a series. Let's say that. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 00:10:58 They, you go that deep. You'd like to just, you know, somebody play it and do, do something with it. But it ends up in the back of the net. And, uh, I guess for you Warner, watching this play, if you're, if you're going to lay blame or praise, because Pasternak, he winds it up. You, and it's easy when you're watching the highlights, he winds it up and he blows by Marner and comes in and makes a nice play, but your thoughts just on how the play came together and what you saw there. Well, again, I don't know that it was designed, but if they've been doing it for years, then maybe it was.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I mean, Pasta Nac does wind it up. Either way, you've got to hit it in the perfect spot there. Like, let's be honest here. That's, that's, there's, there's, there's, well, if it does hit a perfect spot, the, the, the leaf's reaction to a dump in is, you know, not. ideal. Right. Like, so Marner is beside Pasternak here as he comes off the bench. I don't know. I don't know. Right. And not for long because now now he's tied. He's he's, he's given up that good shape. And there's four guys in the zone here. Right. Look at the numbers.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Not Pasternak's or it's not Marner's puck. It's easy to say. It's a D man. made with them. That's not if, if it's not a dump or it's a hard rim, he, No, it's not Marner's guy to cover. Yeah, he's a winger. He doesn't come down to the goal line to get Pucks on dumpins. He's not recovering pucks off of dumpins. It's that nice. It was the worst possible bounce for Marner, Riley,
Starting point is 00:12:38 Samsonov, the entire Leaves team. Keith, Shanahan, Trinivage. It's like, yes. Everyone's short of Beryl Ballard. That's a bad balance for. It couldn't have gone better for the Bruins. It landed right on his tape. I'm sure there's a lot of time where a guy busts in,
Starting point is 00:12:54 Okay, you're dumping it in. I'm going and it doesn't come right to you. Yeah. And then maybe you don't have the skill. I'm trying to think of if it's Trent Frederick. Is he going to grab that puck and go backhand and beat Samson off? But to your point, it was kind of a, well, I guess if you hate the Leafs and you were very happy. But as I just, I didn't really have much skin in the game.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I was, let's play two overtimes. I got nothing else going on tonight. Let's go. Let's get some real drama because through three periods, it was very tight. It was a very fun game to watch. And I just felt for everybody who had an interest because, yeah, your heart would be racing a mile a minute.
Starting point is 00:13:35 But over in a hurry, and now it becomes a big week in Toronto. What's it going to be? Players and coach talk today and the management aren't scheduled to talk until Thursday. What the age? Well, Shanney's busy. It's a new process. That's not how they do things, but it's also a new GM.
Starting point is 00:13:51 So I don't know what to make of it. if it's a thing or another thing. So you got a bug, a little stomach flu? Well, and then the other question would be, you know, how deep are we into Brendan Shanahan's vision for the organization? And is there still belief that it can work? Yeah. The old Shannon.
Starting point is 00:14:06 I think there's been a lot of bad luck here. If you look at the caliber of team and caliber of goalie, the Leafs have faced for a decade here, it hasn't been, you know, really juicy matchups. Now, have they shot themselves in the foot? Absolutely. But it's been a really, really tough run for what could be outcomes for teams that just routinely get over 100 points.
Starting point is 00:14:28 They haven't really had a powder puff matchup at all in the eight or nine years where they've flamed out up for one. But it's eight or nine years. But that's the thing, right? And so you can sell either side. You can say, look, maybe it's bad luck. But sorry, Shanny, like, we need more than one second round appearance over a decade. Like, you start doing the math on what the gates are at that building for regular season games.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Never mind when they can charge for round two and round three in theoretical Stanley Cup finals. I was like, we need to be doing better than this. Bottom line is results of business. You haven't gotten them done, whether it's your fault or not. Like, is that happening? I don't know. There's got to be the whole, we're reevaluating everyone here at the end of the year. Everyone's report card, so to speak.
Starting point is 00:15:08 How old's Matthews and Nylander and Marner like 25? Mid-20s. Marner just turned 27, I believe, actually yesterday. Happy birthday too old. So he might be older, but in that vein of age, right? Riley will be like a year or two older than that. Anyway, I'm going to, what I'm going to refer to is to McKinnon.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Right. He loses and he kind of says, I haven't done shit in this league. Yeah. Are you hearing that out of the Leafs players? Does it sound like they're kind of, but not that strong? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Like Matthews, like you praised, you praised Kneelander for being no pressure. But sometimes it's easy to play with no pressure when you don't have any pressure on yourself because maybe he it doesn't really matter that much to him and i'm not i i'm i'm i'm i'm sure i'm making shit up and it's easy to sit here and and and nitpick guys and this that look at nilander's body language after they scored does he look upset like all of them are like and i guess there's it's it's in the moment and
Starting point is 00:16:23 maybe that's lost dark tissue there A lot of scar tissue there. This group has been called losers for a decade. They hate this shit. But they haven't been able to overcome it. So I don't know. I mean, you could really sell it both ways. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:37 For them to lose, it's almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's, well, yeah, this is how it goes. And I don't know. To trot out luck, it's hard to look at it. I think every goalie they faced in the last seven years is one of Vezna or something like that. Well, I'm hilarious. But yeah, be better. Just be better.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Come on. It's not like they've gotten around three or they've lost in a cup final against the you can't just get goalied for eight years. No, but it would be nice if one year they goalied somebody and they haven't been able to do it, right? Well, but that's the point is that Colorado didn't worry about the Vezan trophy winner this year. No likelihood of it. One, no one's questioning Colorado's character, right? This group has been audited a thousand times over and it's to the point where a lot of people think you can't come back with those four guys.
Starting point is 00:17:24 anymore. So I guess the question is, do they feel close like maybe Colorado did after McKinnon had the, you know, he had that kind of statement at the end of the season or, yeah, I'm pissed off. I'm tired of. They feel like Washington. They feel like a group we don't think we'll ever win. That's what they feel like if we revisit where we were on the cabs before they won. Because you're just like, they're not going to win. That's a group that's just not going to go. And I don't think they are going to win if they just maintain the. Yeah, I think they have to make some serious changes. The decor was not good enough at all. And those two goalies. Keith said it's best decor he's had. I thought Benoit, this Benoit kid was their best D man.
Starting point is 00:18:03 But you'd love done. I didn't think Riley, I thought Riley was average at best. He made just mistakes and he just looked maybe and, you know, he could be hurt. This is the other thing that happens. You get here. He just kind of slow, slow to react, that whole thing. And then what, and then what are you taught? You got Lubushkin and a bunch of third pair guys. Edmondson, McCabe, T.J. Brody was healthy at times in the series. Mark Giordano's too old now. Like it's just, it's a lot of four through sevens. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:34 So there's going to be changes for sure. I think they have to do something with Marner. And does Marneux even want to go back there? How tired is he of all this? Well, he's got control of the whole situation, full no move. So, yeah, what does Mitch Marner want is probably what happens. Yeah. One year away from free agency, full no move.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Blow it up. Oh, they got to blow it up. They got to blow it up. okay so how how do you so you don't bring back samsonoff he had the one year arbitration settlement wool looks like a nice guy but you want to insulate him with someone to help because there's been injury issues all the time because it doesn't it sound like wool like if he's heard it wasn't exactly what you want it sounds like he heard something you heard himself with point one second left in game six and that's where I would sort of follow it under the unlucky thing right
Starting point is 00:19:20 or it's just like of course that happens to this team in the last milliless a second of a game six that was already over. Right? Like that's just, not giving any excuses, but yeah, that's shitty luck. Yeah. Yeah. So our, uh, our, our, our buddy tree, what will he do? If you could swap out Marner for a legit top pair defenseman and get some cap savings, you do it. It's just that that sounds really easy to do. It's probably really, really hard to do. Because it's like, does Marner want to go the place that you're going? Does the team making the deal have the extra cap space to accommodate Marner's salary.
Starting point is 00:19:59 And it's like, yeah, teams just aren't really throwing around top pair guys. I have them. Yeah, exactly. And wingers are tough. Like, we've seen it. Like, you can score 25, 30 goals and be worth almost nothing in this league. Like Anthony Bovillet, a really good player. Got traded for the fifth round or twice this year.
Starting point is 00:20:13 So what kind of team? What would be the fit for Marner? Utah, Vegas, Chicago. How does Vegas do it? Like, with their cap. Atrangelo is the one I see floated. And again, this is all just. like for funzies, but like,
Starting point is 00:20:28 that they will lose Marsha So, Chandler Stevenson, and a few other forwards theoretically to free agency. You're locked into hurdle, Stone, and Eichel. Are you giving up Marner? I mean, how old is Petrangelo now? Older. And so that's sort of, for Vegas, you can sell it as sort of extending the-
Starting point is 00:20:48 -tranjol's 34. Exactly. So for the Leafs, it's a short-term fix, but Marner's only got one year left anyway. And for Vegas, they say, we're confident we can resign anyone. Like we get the guys we want, period, stop. Look at Hanifin. He came in with no deal.
Starting point is 00:21:03 He's already locked in. We extend our window rather than having a 34-year-old, we get the 27. Yeah. And for the least, it's like, now we got a legit top pair defenseman. That's one of them. And it's like, do you feel like this team's going to struggle to score without Martin? I don't.
Starting point is 00:21:15 He had a pretty may year, albeit by like a normal standard, is a great year. But for his own, it was his least impressive. Nealander sort of supplanted him as their second best player in my mind. and they need to, you know, they're one year away from Tavares' money coming off, which will help. But they just, they need to find a way to bolster the blue line.
Starting point is 00:21:33 And they have four forwards that make like 40 million bucks. And the petrangelo thing, because I saw that, I think, if you spend a lot of time on Solius. He's 34. He has a no move clause as well. There's three more years at 8.8. That feels, really feels like, not the answer for the Leafs,
Starting point is 00:21:52 a guy who potentially is past his, due date and we'll be making too much money and old. I won't want to go there very soon. Yeah, even. Yeah, the whole thing is like, it's going to be hard to come up with the trade. Everyone thinks it's going to work because there's no moves. And it's going to be tough to get value for this is a distressed asset in a lot of ways in the sense that he controls it all. He's not coming off his best year.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Everyone's called him a loser that's never going to win. Like, it's not the best time to be selling Mitch Marner. And he controls the whole process. So we're going to see these for months, like these mock deals. It wouldn't be crazy to have them show up again just because you can't get all the things done that you'd need to get done to get a deal. I think what you saw, though, is it's not like next year cup favorite kind of a thing. But watching Matthew Nyes and watching Wall come in and play as well as he did, you can, okay, so there's something there. You've got some star players that you're going to keep.
Starting point is 00:22:52 You're going to make some changes, but you're not devoid. of young talent. It's not as though you've been shipping out picks and prospects here at a crazy rate. You can kind of start to say, okay, well, Nyes can be part of what is going on. The old forwards are not an issue. Yeah. It's the, it's the decor. Yeah. It's the decor that needs addressing.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Like, it's, it just is. And if wool can do it, great. My concern with Wal is he's, I'm not a leaf's honk, so I don't fall out that closely, but it seems like he's hurt a fair bit. Yeah. which is kind of what Freddie Anderson when he was there, right? And you never gave them a great series. Right.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Like he's had a couple for Carolina. Yeah. So you have a great regular season and two games into the playoffs. Like, and you can't, you can't manage like that, but there are tendencies. You need to get a durable,
Starting point is 00:23:43 reliable veteran to play with them, right? That's, that's the puzzle piece that fits with Wall, who's cheap and young and they like. Should have got a guy like Mattias Hachholm, when Edmonton got him, you know?
Starting point is 00:23:54 Like, There's a guy that's. Yeah, I mean, the Han of things would be big upgrades on what they rolled out there. No question. But the problem, Dean, is like you sort of said they don't, they're not light. Like, they don't have their first rounder next year. They, they've got a lot of second, thirds and fourths out the window. Like, the kids that are coming are already there in a sense.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Like, Nyes is what, his second year? And Robertson's now kind of almost not really. I don't even think of a project and a prospect. Like, who else do they have? They've been trained their picks a lot. Yeah. Yeah, they get the centerman. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:29 But they don't feel close, right? They don't feel like a tweak away to me. They've, they still feel like a hundred point top ten team to me. So in this tournament, they win. If Martner wants out and they can go get, again, it's hard to do. But if he wants out, he's like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:24:48 I don't give a shit where I go. They, they've got the, asset in the player. And you can call him distressed all you want. Are you kidding me? He's extremely talented. 100 points. There'd be a ton of kids or kids,
Starting point is 00:25:02 teams that want them. Like, we wouldn't want them in Calgary? I would. So I don't know what you do. Are you flipping them at the deadline? Either way. Don't care.
Starting point is 00:25:13 You want to stay? You're 100 point. How many of those guys are out there? Yeah, not like 15 maybe, right? And he's, I think he's top,
Starting point is 00:25:22 out at 99, but yeah. You know what I mean, though? And maybe he's better at being the guy. The Utah one just screams as a fit because Arizona has been stockpiling assets forever. The owner's finally going to spend. The last guy was so cheap for so long. Even the deadline moves they did. They never retained salary on anyone.
Starting point is 00:25:43 If you look at the Zucker trade and the statured trade, like peanuts, they wouldn't retain a nickel. Like finally, it's like, okay, purse strings. and you sort of had the cautionary tail in Buffalo, but this is, I think, a very different spot in the sense that I think Bill Armstrong's been ready for this. He knew this team was moving or would have a new rank right about in the next year or two. Like they have a lot of assets.
Starting point is 00:26:06 They stockpiled. And like he said, they stockpiled. They're ready for this. Buffalo hadn't stockpiled. Exactly. Money on free agency, which is a terrible idea. Like you're not talking about martyr and free agency. You're talking about making a trade for a guy.
Starting point is 00:26:18 He's good to your extent. Yep. It is good. And they've got some really nice young pieces there. Like the Done kid's an intriguing piece. They have Keller, Machelli. Like it was a really offensively,
Starting point is 00:26:31 you know, interesting team. And they had Marner. They could be an explosive offensive. Didn't they draft a bunch of defensemen? Younger defensemen, I thought. They took that,
Starting point is 00:26:41 uh, Shimishev last year at six, I think, in the draft, who was a huge Russian defenseman. Yeah. Maybe he's not ready. But again,
Starting point is 00:26:50 what, lots of picks, lots of problems. That's the only thing is if the Leafs are going to make a Marner deal with the hopes of getting better in the back end. I don't know how they, I don't know if there's an answer there. Well, you trade them for two first and then you move those for a defense. Yes, that's exactly do.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Yeah. And that's what the Canucks did, right? They moved Boer Horvatt and they didn't get a player back. They took the first from the Islanders and they went out and got Philip Aronic from Detroit. Yeah. It's not easy to do it that way, but you can get around it, right? It's just that there's not a lot of teams that aren't up against the cap that want to be good next year. Utah's won. That's why Marner is a great fit.
Starting point is 00:27:21 They're going to be aggressive and they have cap space. People do love to dance on the leaf's grave, though. It's one of the things. It's jammed in your face a lot about leaves. So, yeah, you have to. Absolutely. So, I mean, it's not exactly a, not a glowing. But, I mean, so let's take a look.
Starting point is 00:27:40 It was an interesting night Saturday and then the fallout for the poor leaf faithful. These overtime games end on a strange bounce or rebound. Send it to the net and get people. to the net. Lenholm, right wing corner. Posternock is there. No, my God, no.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Oh my God. Oh, my God. Without this coming out too badly, I mean, I think we all knew it was probably going to be Boston. It's very evident. Teams play the Leafs. They set up the game
Starting point is 00:28:53 for the Leafs to beat themselves. All right, we don't want to talk, man. Just go, just go. He came back from a 3-1 series deficit in Boston ruined it. Dang it! Yeah, Boston did ruin it for sure. It was all going, it was all according to plan right up until Boston decided.
Starting point is 00:29:38 We could score this overtime winner and maybe we'll get it. So yeah, everybody, again, it's dancing on the grave. The Doritos, I didn't realize that Doritos would jump on board. Yeah, I've got that later if you don't have it now. It's sad to see. Yeah, it's not sure. It is extra salty this year. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:29:56 It's nacho year. The internet, man. And now the Toronto Sun, obviously, never one to pull any punches. We stink. Front page Toronto Sun. On the heels of another predictable Leafs playoff exit, Alec Manoa rocked in his first start for the wretched Blue Jays. What a sad time to be a Toronto sports fan.
Starting point is 00:30:23 I don't know that one of 162 really measures up to the other, sure. Yeah, well. One of those things for you to come to the defense of the Blue Jays is the most stunning thing. No, it's just like, man, like that's this core. But you know what? A lot of people saw this coming. Sportsnet, of course, respected journalists and
Starting point is 00:30:45 prognosticators. Leaves, leaves, leaves, leaves, leaves, leaves, leaves, leaves, Mark Specter had Bruins and Seven. Sunny. Bruins and seven. Everybody else had the leaves to win this series. Actually, Wayne Scanlan had the maple leaf ass. Had a boy, Wayne. I don't know how the leaf ass did.
Starting point is 00:31:09 And then again, Gord Miller's not the guy to do it, but he sent the tweet out not long after. And he did preface it by saying, now maybe this is too soon or it's not the right time. This may come under the heading of too soon for leaf fans, but Seth Jarvis, who scored 33 goals in the regular season for the Hurricanes,
Starting point is 00:31:27 was drafted by Carolina with a 20-20-first round pick obtained from Toronto to take on the last year of the Patrick Marlowe contract. That's an out right there, friends. That's just to eat money. Just to eat dough. On a guy they didn't need again. On a guy they didn't eat in the first place. At all.
Starting point is 00:31:47 Yikes. And then again, back to SportsNet, putting together the final math on it, since 2018 and potential series clinching games. Oh, one and 11, scoring on average two goals a game, giving up over three,
Starting point is 00:32:04 four percent of the power play, 72 on the penalty kill, an 899 save percentage. So Ryan, it's the luck argument. That's a lot of bad luck. There is some bad luck in there. There's also some bad hockey.
Starting point is 00:32:19 There's also some guys that have wilted under pressure. It's all these things, man. Yeah. Yeah. The Lou Lamarillo three-year deal. The three-year deal for Patrick Marlowe was insane. Three-year. Three.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Lou. Frank Saravelli, daily face-off, our hockey insider, he joins us. You, of course, had the Bruins,
Starting point is 00:32:42 right, in your picks, I'm sure? Nope, I had the Toronto Maple Leafs. You did, eh? Yeah. I thought the Bruins were right for the picking.
Starting point is 00:32:53 I still knew. Maybe they would have been, if the least are healthy fellas. We got to, like, again, we don't want to excuse the shit out of this. Nielder missed three games and Matthews missed two. Am I right? That's excusing the shit out of it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:04 So if the bruise missed Marshan for three and passed her for two, that wouldn't have made a difference? I'm being difficult here, but. I mean, it's, it's not a. This is, so this is my argument is I saw Mitch Marner. No, sorry, it was Willie Neelander say after the game. We were so bleeping close. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:33:23 close to what you guys won three of the 16 required what are we like again what are we talking about here last year was five and that's the high water mark yeah of the eight year Austin matthews and company experience yeah well to be fair you're down three won it this is the second time we've done this funeral for them right they got they lost game four and it was they're dead anyway so they almost came back from that what does okay i almost want a cop frank three times Yeah. The almost rings. He's got almost a handful.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I got to order some almost. Cornering the market and almost for sure. And we were talking about before you came in. We got to blow up the core. It's kind of what it was here for a long time. You got to blow it up. You got no move clauses and you got guys with guarantee it's not just that easy. And even if you wanted to play fantasy hockey general manager, okay.
Starting point is 00:34:18 So say you can move some guys. Who are you going to get? What? You have some assets. You have some. you have some highly skilled players. But even if you had your pick, what are the players? How are you going to make this turn around?
Starting point is 00:34:32 It doesn't feel like it's a quick fix for Brad Trilliving. Doesn't have to be a long one. I mean, the idea that this team can continue to play for players that make north of 40 million in an 87.5 million dollar cap, like it doesn't compute. It has never really computed. and they need to make changes.
Starting point is 00:34:57 That, like, to me, the scariest part about this is that we all look at the Toronto Maple Leafs roster and say how under man defensively they are. And that wasn't an issue at all for them in round one. That's not why they lost the series. Yeah, Boston, the score. It's especially once you got later in the series. This is zeros for what felt like almost all of six and seven, wasn't it? You can't even say it's goaltending.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Ilya Samsonoff played absolutely fine, especially for a guy that. that found out he was starting at lunchtime on game seven. I mean, to me, when you have your last 14 playoff games and 13 out of those 14, you score two or fewer, where's this vaunted core? And yeah, did Austin Matthews have his moment in this series? Of course he did. Did William Neelander, he's been the one guy I've never questioned when it comes to the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:35:52 That guy's all heart. I guess you could say maybe John Tavares chipped in. He scored and factored into a couple game winners. Yeah. Where was Mitch Marner? And you look around because it's hard. Going whatever it is, going into round number two, eight of the top 10 teams, like all of them 100 points.
Starting point is 00:36:14 These are all very good hockey teams. It's very hard to win. So for the Leafs, there's not a ton of shame in it. But do they look like a team that would have beaten Carolina? do they look like a team that would beat Florida? Nope. Not really. Not really.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Florida didn't look like a team that beat the Bruins last year either. That game's a little bit fraught with crazy tournaments. Like we see eight seeds and wild cards. The Colorado lost Seattle last year. Crazy shit happens. It's just that for the crazy shit to never go the Leafs way is pretty entiting the amount of cracks they've had here. Guess who's afraid of the Toronto Maple Leafs? The Toronto Maple Leafs.
Starting point is 00:36:47 No one. No one. And that's the truth. There's all this talk. in the market of, oh, man, like what, why do we always run into the Bruins? Why do we run into the lightning? Oh, it's unbelievable. And then you get through the lightning and you get the Panthers. And it's like, well, at some point, you were way ahead of, miles ahead of where the Florida Panthers were seven years ago. Why have they passed you by? Why is no one afraid of you,
Starting point is 00:37:20 like you're afraid of them. You haven't made any strides as an organization. And there's this, I call it a loser's mentality because I really believe that that's what they have. I think it permeates from the very top of the organization all the way down where it's like, can you believe all these eyeballs and pressure and all these different things that are conspiring against us?
Starting point is 00:37:42 And it's like, it's weird. I've never heard the New York Yankees act that way. I've never heard them say, what dammit we play in new york and this is hard and you man the a le sucks we've got the red socks here and all these no i've never heard i've never once ever heard the bronx bomber say that you're gonna tell me toronto's bigger there there's more pressure there's more everything than new i don't buy into any of that i think that in toronto you're treated like i ain't god the newspaper might have your picture up and poke fun at you but if that's you're not even hard i'm not no
Starting point is 00:38:23 lagging Toronto media, they're not, they're not scary. They're fans. They're not scary. And so to have that as your crutch, it's, it's unbelievable. There's a healthy dose of arrogance chipped in there. Like, we should win because we are one of the gold standard original six franchises. Like, last time I checked, there's five more of them, and they're all more successful than you. Yeah, since 67, it's not close.
Starting point is 00:38:51 You're the worst of the group. All more successful. So how does that happen? So there's a healthy dose of arrogance coupled with a loser's mentality. And that is a toxic, toxic drug. I'm just kind of, because as we do this, Toboros is the captain. One near left.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Does he have control of the room? Because I feel like he's a guy that wants to win. I don't think he can keep up anymore. I think he's overpaid. But if your captain can't, you know what I mean? Grab the room and drag them into a battle. Is it on the captain a little bit or the team?
Starting point is 00:39:34 Do you don't like it? What? I know what you're asking. I don't really like I don't pretend to know John Tavares incredibly well, but I don't think that's his, that's not his nature. He's not going to. His pedigree.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Yeah, he's, he's not one of those raw, raw, you know, let's get into it guys. Um, and his play is certainly, I think he's had a kind of borderline remarkable transformation from power forward to elite netfront presence. But that's by necessity because he can't keep up anymore. Like the fact that he was able to produce the way that he has been the last couple years,
Starting point is 00:40:12 despite the way that he slowed down, I think is actually a hat tip to him in changing his game. But he's not it anymore. And he is overpaid and he knows it. How do you reconcile all those things? things. I just think it starts at the very top. And I'm not advocating for a change at the president level with Brendan Shanahan or Sheldon. I just think they, Sheldon Keefe, I think they need to reevaluate every part of this operation. Okay, but if you're not advocating for Shanahan being out, like what are we talking about? Nine years, he's got more fingerprints than anyone else here.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Why is he even present? They all, all these, my point is every single facet of the entire organization should be on the table. And if you're going to do it and clean house, you've got to wipe out all the lifers, all the people that have been there 25 years that have perpetuated all the same narratives and BS. Don't just change out the president and don't just change out the coach.
Starting point is 00:41:11 You actually need to change out everything. Bring it, Wendell Clark. Did Wendell Clark win? I don't know if that's. Or what to do. I don't know if that's going to be part of me. Now, do you anticipate, Do you anticipate Keefe being let go?
Starting point is 00:41:29 I do. I mean, it's hard to envision the path back for him. How many times are you going to be in the same exact spot and have the same result happen? Pete DeBoer. Why, yeah, why is it that Pete DeBore is 8-0 and Sheldon Keith and the Leafs have nothing to show for it? Better pregame speeches, yeah. Did you see the clip? Yeah. was not, I was not coming out of my seat.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Then somebody put the clip of Craig Barubi next to it with him at the Blues locker room before game seven in the same building. Did you see it? Did I not bring up this? We talked about it. It's like how much is the cameras in the room and this is how much it is like that's exactly what he would have done if there wasn't a camera room. I don't know. I don't know. I can't speak to Sheldon Keefe, but I know Craig Burby pretty well and I would say that that's exactly how he would act.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Yeah. Yeah. That's kind of how he acts. He's not putting on a show for the cameras. Yeah, no, like that would be how he would act like getting off the bus. There's not been many, many guys leave the coaching position in Toronto with their head held all that high. When you think about it, I mean, Randy Carlisle was humbled and Babcock came in.
Starting point is 00:42:45 It didn't work. And Sheldon Keefe, if he has let go, it's going to be, they all kind of have the same story. They were unable to get this. It just feels like it's a perpetual underachieving team. Go ahead. But doesn't that speak to what Frank's saying? Yeah. It's not a single piece.
Starting point is 00:43:03 You have to clear out a bunch of space. And it's the same thing in the GM position, right? Like all those guys. He looked like a ball of stress this year and all the past years. Like he was ready to explode, explode on officials, explode on whoever. And it's like you have maybe the best job in the league. treated like royalty, every single thing at your disposal. Go look at the Arizona Coyotes last year.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Worst plane, worst hotel, can't even get smoothies for players after the game. Yeah, hotel bills going unpaid. You have not a care or worry in the world. Every competitive advantage that could possibly be put at your fingertips, you have it. And instead, it's like, damn, this Austin Matthews chase of 70 goals. is a, quote, major distraction. It's a major distraction.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Yeah. I just, I can't like, perspective, please, someone. Yeah. It's good theater, though. They rarely disappoint you. Well, that's kind of what made Saturdays game so awesome. Yeah. Is that the, like, the other end of it for whoever it was,
Starting point is 00:44:14 I got to tell you, Boston is a way tougher medium market than Toronto. You tune in to 985 the sports hub today if the Bruins. lost and they'd be asking for heads on on pikes and not Ryan pikes right they they would be all over it uh so if so the so the Leafs are potentially uh looking for a coach see this morning Rick bonus announced his retirement in Winnipeg so there's another coaching job available there seven yeah I was going to say that's Eldon Keefe would make eight which is also known as one quarter of the entire league Ryan Huska slides up to six So today he was 16th before bonus.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Now he's the 15th longest tenured coach. And if Keith gets whacked, he will be the 14th. Yeah. Jeez. So what does that say about, I just go down the list to Paul Maurice. 2,000 NHL games coached. And walked away from that Jets team and threw his hands up.
Starting point is 00:45:22 What is it? Like, I'm not a football guru. I know I cheer for the bills. But a football coach to me can go in at halftime in the second half of the game. It's completely different. They were down by 17 and the schemes have changed.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Adjustments. And there's adjustments made and all of a sudden they stormed back and score 28 and win the game. What is an NHL coach capable of doing? as far as how much impact can he have on the game? It's a really good question because I actually think in the series this one specifically, I thought they made a really good adjustment in games five and six to four, seven. They were like, okay, we know we're not going to score.
Starting point is 00:46:16 We've got to be a little bit opportunistic and we've got to defend way better. and I think they did that against Boston. And they were the better team in those two games. But then I watched things like, okay, this is a really small snippet and not a big sample size, but I don't know if you know this, if you watch the game or not, but if you saw the goal that the Leaf scored,
Starting point is 00:46:41 they go up one-nothing with 10 minutes left in a game that had been scoreless. The very next shift, 20 seconds after, the goal, Joel Edmondson is leading the rush and getting a scoring chance on net. Joel Edmondson, yes, game seven winner, but has no offensive upside or instincts. What are you doing? That to me was like, holy smokes, should, like, I'd call a timeout right there. Guys, we got to get our head screwed on straight.
Starting point is 00:47:14 You know better than that. We know better than that. This is not something that we preach. this is all about knuckling down for the next nine minutes and 45 seconds and we walk out out here into the second round great a team goes up one nothing in the third and calls their own time out okay now everyone just settle settle down all right so but instead the fourth line went out immediately following the joel edmondson shift the fourth line gets hemmed in their own end and then after that way deeper you know you get into o t
Starting point is 00:47:47 and guess what, Mitch Marner, sleeping when he comes on the ice. Not paying attention. Morgan Riley, not paying attention. Cross corner dump, off the boards, in, set play. Where's the attention to detail? How much of that is on the players, Wrette? How much of that is on, look, mistakes are going to happen. But how much of that is on lack of preparedness, all those other things?
Starting point is 00:48:14 And I've always said, I don't think coaches could come in and there are there are adjustments you can make but i think they're minor to a coach dragging the emotion and the attention do you know what i mean does that make sense what i'm saying i don't think the schemes change like in football i think they change a lot i don't know a lot about it but i assume they had changed a lot in hockey there are minor adjustments that can be made but for the most part it's such a fluid game you can't have you have general
Starting point is 00:48:51 ideas of how you're supposed to play and the players need to be sticklers for the details in that I just think that for a coach it's it's more about making sure the guys are engaged and invested and getting the emotion out of them and I don't think
Starting point is 00:49:11 I don't know I'm not even answering your question probably but I just don't think that a coach can change the the game plan too much and have too much impact, they're going to have more impact on making sure the players are ready to play, are focused on the play. As a timeout, and you laugh about it, boom, but if that's what it takes to make sure your guys are dialed in and that Joel Edmondson isn't rushing the puck,
Starting point is 00:49:36 like, know your role here, but, right? And I think that's where, that's, NHL coaches, that's why I think there, they are. interchangeable. Like, I just do. I agree to that. Yeah, because you can't have the same guy
Starting point is 00:49:53 extract that will forever so much as if it was just scheming, well, the best X and O's guy, I'll never get fired. That's not what it is. It speaks to your point, right? It's like, can I get the most out of my players attention and effort-wise? Why is the longest tenured coach
Starting point is 00:50:05 in the league? I referred to him on this show last week, John Cooper as Ted Lassow. He ain't the X's and O's guys there. Yeah. He's got the, beard, whatever that guy's name is. That's his assistant coach.
Starting point is 00:50:19 That's running. That was your bonus for a long time, right? Undisperate organizations. Yeah. Yeah. Well, hey who. That's the leaf. That's the leaf story.
Starting point is 00:50:32 What did you make? No, game seven, it was a tight series. Was it a good series between Dallas and Vegas? It was close. And at times I felt like it was exciting, but it was, they were, both teams really seemed content. We're not going to give you much. We're not going to try.
Starting point is 00:50:47 be opportunistic and pounce when we can. And it did come down to a one goal differential in a game seven. I felt like the four clinching games, three clinching games, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Felt like we saw maybe three goals total in a 140 minutes span or whatever that is. It was, was it a good series? I would argue anytime a team loses the first two games on home ice and roars back to have a three, two series lead is probably a. pretty good series, all things considered.
Starting point is 00:51:23 Dallas is, they're a really hard team to play against. It was physical. Yeah. They're, Colorado, they're a force of nature. I don't know that they're as detailed and complete as Dallas is. They're way more frenetic.
Starting point is 00:51:41 They're way more going to punch you in the face. But I think Dallas might be able to take eight punches in the face and still be standing. Which structure against Star Power? So that's your view there? Well, I think that's a knock on Miro Haskinen and a knock on Wyatt Johnson and Jason Robertson.
Starting point is 00:52:03 They may not be Nathan McKinn and Rale McCarr, but they're pretty damn good in their own right. That's what the story was last round, at least what it was supposed to be. The team that gave up the fewest goals in the regular season against this high octane offense and the offense took that defense to the woodshed. Let's hope that Dallas can go to school a little bit
Starting point is 00:52:24 maybe on what happened in round one. I don't know. But I'm kind of with you. When you get, I mean, this Johnston kid, he is 20 years old. And what he's doing is, it's remarkable. He's played in two game sevens. He's got a goal in each of the game sevens.
Starting point is 00:52:39 He's a point per game guy at 20. That's not bad. When you then throw in your Ben, say, like you said, Rupé hints, it probably, to your point, we maybe don't give enough or we need to make sure we give enough credit to that offense because there's, there's a lot of it there for. 8.20 goal scores. Right. Eight.
Starting point is 00:53:00 How many do the flames have this year? It's not about the flames, Frank. Why are you going to drag the flames into it? What is the Calgary show? What do you got to do? I think if Dallas is worried about how they stack up against the flames, that's a great question. That's right. I don't think they're worried about that, although they didn't get pumped in the season series.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Yeah. But I mean, looking forward to that. The thing about all of this is there weren't a lot of upsets. The teams that were supposed to, for the most part, got through this round two. You said it last week and we had you on. This could be one for the ages. This is one of the rare, what, the fifth time where it's all 100 point teams. Wow. Eight of the top 10 teams have advanced. This is a powerhouse second round. It's going to be electric. There's not one bad series in the group. There may be a couple shorter series. Yeah. I think there's the possibility for Florida and Boston to be shorter. I think there's the possibility for Edmonton and Vancouver to be shorter. But that doesn't mean there won't be fireworks to get to that point.
Starting point is 00:54:00 Well, let's talk Vancouver and Edmonton. Both teams were favored to get in. Both do get in. Now, Vancouver, did they have trouble with Nashville? Is it just kind of a team that, you know, it's their first time? back into the playoffs. A lot of guys there that haven't been there or haven't been there in a long time, that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:54:21 They had to come back, what, in game one, they score the two goals and get there. And then they pull the goal in the miracle comeback in game five or whatever the heck it was. Full marks to Vancouver for getting through. How do you like the way they stack up against Edmonton? Because you talk about a gentleman sweep.
Starting point is 00:54:37 Edmonton was, I mean, they cruised over the Kings. I guess that became a term, didn't it? The gentleman sweep. I think we heard it here in Alberta. two years ago, to be fair.
Starting point is 00:54:46 Flames one game one and then it was, boo. How do I size up the Canucks? They're a hard team to size up because there's a lot of things that I liked. That fight to come back in a couple games, you know, when the chips are totally down. I liked some of the sides on their back end.
Starting point is 00:55:10 The fact that they showcased more of that with Myers and Zateroff and Susie and Cole. I thought that was important, but there are a lot of things that I don't like. They don't have their top goalie to start this series. They may not have them at all. Elias Pedersen was completely irrelevant and absent in round one. And they are a one and a half line team that's now trying to take down maybe the best offense left standing. That's going to be really hard to do.
Starting point is 00:55:42 And I When I squint real hard I'm trying to find a path for the Canucks to win this series and I'm not short of that top line, absolutely dominating the Oilers, which is really hard to envision. I don't know
Starting point is 00:55:58 how the Canucks can win the series. Yeah, if there's Demko there, at least you've got that card to play, right? He's a Vezna finalist. He's the best goalie in the series. They've shown they can play a good defensive game, but like, fuck, you're talking about a Latvian guy. one had heard of playing net for this team.
Starting point is 00:56:15 Seelovs. He's a hero in Latvia, the laid back Latvian. He'd be great for Dina Moraiga. The question is, how's he going to do against McDavid? I think he's actually pretty good. Yeah, 23. Like, there's a nice little run here, but. And he's got some size, and he definitely looks confident.
Starting point is 00:56:31 He's got some swagger. But this is a ridiculous power play. This is two guys that are averaging almost two points. a game in their careers in the playoffs. This is ridiculous what you're going up against. When you watch the Oilers, it's like you can outplay them for 60 minutes, but it's like one or two power plays you gave them that they didn't deserve, they'll still be you.
Starting point is 00:56:55 Like that's what's so horrifying about this team is like you can be structurally sound and great, but you still might just have your doors blown off. Well, I slow for a foot off the goal line and shit. We had this great stat today from Paul Padudy. I tweeted it earlier about power play merchants. and I was kind of just making fun of the term.
Starting point is 00:57:15 I mean, their power play and penalty kill added up to 145%. 100% on the PK, plus 45% on the power play in a series. Like, good luck trying to win against that. And they've had about a week to rest up. They'll be feeling it, yeah, none of it, I just, because I'm with you,
Starting point is 00:57:37 I know Vancouver fared pretty well against them in the regular season. I know they had that, everyone's referencing the first game of the season, but that's a lifetime ago. It was also the exact moment in time when the Oilers were in the ditch, the only period of time during the entire season. Yeah. This is not one of the season series you're placing a lot of stock in, I'm guessing. No, and perhaps I place too much in it in the Winnipeg Colorado series. It doesn't mean shit, right?
Starting point is 00:58:04 Like it's just a different brand of hockey teams are playing. Sometimes it means something, but not all the time. Yeah. And but here's the tough part for the oilers and not to get too far ahead of ourselves. Like let's just say hypothetically they do beat the Canucks. How do they fare with whoever comes out of the Central? How many games are those two play? That's a big thing right now, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:58:26 Like even if, like I would say Vancouver, I'll give you a little bit of an edge if you had wrapped it in five. And Edmonton had to go back to L.A., but it was the opposite. Like it's the rest becomes a big thing here, boom, doesn't it? It's a weapon, as McDavid said. Rest is a weapon. Yeah, if you if you're really, really hoping for the Oilers not to make some noise, you need this series for them to go at least six or seven games. Because if they get through in five again and watch Dallas and Colorado destroy one another,
Starting point is 00:58:57 there's a path, Frank. I see a path for the Oilers. As they say, as they say, what else is going on? Anything to a side of you down to the final. four series. Anything else happening? We've got a draft lottery. Yeah, draft lottery tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Dropped a podcast today with J.P. Golfo, who coached Macklin Celebrini this year at BU. He was a great to just tell us all about Celebrity and what he's up to. So check that out. Top 50 free agents dropped last week. Oiler fans were upset that I didn't have Warren Fogle in the top 50. That's very a other fan of them. Yep.
Starting point is 00:59:37 and a almost up to potentially eight coaching vacancies like there's a lot there's a lot on the old hot stove these days there you go yeah and i asked frank uh we chatted on the weekend i'm like you could go into this thing he's like uh once it's going to be enough for a while for me after watching the nerds watch the lottery balls bounce for two hours that was yeah i was sequestered in a room uh for a number of hours without access to my phone, which was in some guy's briefcase down the hall. With the commissioner and with some others. And it was, you're good. Experience.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Yeah. And I saw, like, the process, I could just watch everything else on TV. The process is what I wanted to see. And everyone was like, look at you the next day. Chicago lands Bedard. Of course you're out here saying, look, nothing to see here. That means there's exactly something to this. You're in on the fix, Frank.
Starting point is 01:00:33 We know. God. Carrying water for me. me of all people yeah of all people at least gary got your name right so there's always that at the end of the day jeez always that frank severally severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severelli severellia yeah dera daily faceoff daily faceoff dot com do go check that out the list of 50 the top free agents he's got that on there if you're you know wondering who are the flames? I think the lottery might be more interesting
Starting point is 01:01:09 to the flames fan base. I don't know that the top 50 is going to be picked over heavily by the flames. Yeah, there's a chance. There is a chance for sure. Um, Pandalfo? I got his number.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Yeah. Hell yeah. When the, when the flames win the lottery to tomorrow night, then Wednesday will get them on the show. Yeah, book them for Wednesday morning. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:27 Okay. Could maybe cancel if by some. We'll slide noodles a day. That's fine. Small percentage. The flames don't win. I mean, they got 5% chance.
Starting point is 01:01:36 It's like a given. What did he say the 140% the penalty kill and the power? I've got the graphic in the Pender Report. You're going to like it because you can talk all you on about coaching, winning and losers. It's every single special teams battle won the series. Yeah. It was, yeah, like there's.
Starting point is 01:01:59 How's your coach? What players do you have? Do you have good players? How's your power play? That helps. Yeah, that tends to help. Do you know what this weekend is? this weekend yes i do i do ryan you got a draft of some sort we got no more important than that
Starting point is 01:02:18 nope i don't so go to my already happened that's a big one for me that yeah that was yesterday yeah tell him red envision yourself in a body of water in your gitch with your hands wrapped around your lovely bride who's about to bear your children which would that make her a shit shit shit shit shit shit shit yeah shit that's that day. Damn it, Rhett. I didn't pick it. Mother's day, guys. How do these things creep up like this? Next weekend. Mother's day. Shit. That's right. And they're sneaky. They're sneaky about it. Do you know that? It's a test for them. Yeah. No, they test us. They don't bring it up. It's not mentioned.
Starting point is 01:03:20 Yeah. It's like they want you to fail. Yeah. So are you golfing next weekend? Are you, are you, was it next, was it next week you were thinking of going and doing something? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:35 Vena Nova, Calgary's lab grown diamond specialists. Now it's, I mean, it's this weekend coming up, but you have some time. The only store in Calgary that specializes exclusively in lab grown diamonds. We've been telling you about lab grown diamonds. And we've been telling you about Venaena over for a long, time. Somebody's tech, you need ideas.
Starting point is 01:03:55 This is what you do. This is what they do. Go in and say, and here's my guess. I'm going to talk to Justin maybe today. They're going to know what you need. Yes. We're dumb. They know we're dumb.
Starting point is 01:04:09 The wives and they also know we're dumb. But the feed it over, they know what we need. We need help. And they will help you get through it. largest selection in the civil. It's the only place that specializes it. And then earrings. Does she wear earrings?
Starting point is 01:04:27 Does she like rings? Does she like this? They're going to be able to navigate those rough waters for you. Now, if you don't know about lab grown diamonds, where are you been? What are you been doing? And give your head a shake. Labgrown diamond, same chemical composition and crystal structure as an earth mine diamond. Those earth mine diamonds, get this one that's pristine.
Starting point is 01:04:50 It's out of a lab. It's perfect, perfection. And in a lot of cases, 60, 70, sometimes 80% less than what you're going to pay for that dirty, dirty, dirty mind diamond. Venanova.com. The three of us donkeys across the board here, we've gone to Venanova. We've used Venanova and it is batting 1,000 for us. Let them bat 1,000 for you. Second level of Stephen Avenue Place, downtown showroom, Oregon.
Starting point is 01:05:21 online, venanova.com. This is Monday. Mother's Day is on Sunday. So you've got some time. And you're welcome. Pinder, figure it out. Yeah. I'm actually got it written down right here, Mother's Day.
Starting point is 01:05:36 You've got your little daytimeer there. Use it. If the mother, if they're happened to, we're very excited about it. You just don't want to forget it. That's it. I'll just tell my kids because it's their mother, right? that I love that. It's not your mother.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Do you still get something for your mother? Yeah, we'll usually do like a picnic or something. Hmm. Do you think they like that? Yeah, she does. Some wouldn't. She does. I mean, she wouldn't tell you if she didn't like it.
Starting point is 01:06:14 No, we're pretty well. Yeah. Most of my life, I'd say. Yeah. Oh, you're retro? You do a little something for your, your mom? Huh? I'm not doing nothing.
Starting point is 01:06:25 No? Call a drunk at 2 a.m. sing country music too. Yeah. Bama try. Take a piccicah b'em. Take a piccum.
Starting point is 01:06:36 We'll do the Pinder report. Busy weekend. Alec Manoa, don't worry about it. It's not your fault. He should have taken about earlier. He's dusty.
Starting point is 01:06:46 He's brutal. Should have taken about earlier. Village Honda. The Honda Civic continues to lead the way in reliability, value, and performance. The 2024 Civic received a 10 out of 10. You can't do better than that.
Starting point is 01:06:57 That's the least. here to tell you. Car and driver magazines comprehensive vehicle testing the Civic Type R, the Civic S.I, ranked number one and number two respectively in the sport
Starting point is 01:07:07 compact category. They've been doing it for years. They are the very best. It's Village Honda, Northwest Automol, and online at VillageHonda.com, and they bring you... Ryan Pindindoo.
Starting point is 01:07:21 Rhyndon. Fellas, let's start at the Scotia Binks out of them yesterday, where it was game two between the Wranglers and the Firebirds. Calgary victorious in game one, game two, a couple of leads for the fellow. No. No. Well, Wolf. Three, two Wranglers late.
Starting point is 01:07:42 Third period, Firebirds tie. Controversial overtime winner. Was it offside? Was there too many men? Was it goalie interference? Here's Trent Callhead coach of the Rangers. Close there. It looked like an offside. I think we saw it. that. But I think the guy's foot was raised. So I think it was fine with the offside. And the, the player jammed the puck from behind the net. But I think it was a good goal. So it's not, you can't review a lot of those things. You can only review certain things in our league. If the puck crosses the line, if it's kicked in those things. So it's not really much for
Starting point is 01:08:15 reviews. So, but, but no, I thought, I thought it was a goal. I'm okay with it. You know, he's not making excuses. Trent MF call. That's right. Get out of here with your excuses. Don't want to hear it. You don't want to hear it to win the game. Don't have to make excuses. One one is the series. The series now switches to the Coachella Valley,
Starting point is 01:08:37 Palm Springs, friends, where they'll be playing games three through five in the best of five. Sought off at one. Somebody wins two games. They're moving on. That's simple. Those jerseys are quite cool.
Starting point is 01:08:50 They're very good, yes. The white yokes, would you call it, that come down the arms? I kind of like them. Took the young men to the game. A bit of a bit of, an issue I noticed when you take off your shirts for t-shirt helicopters, you do have to remember to put your t-shirt back on before you go home and made a call to the saddle them today.
Starting point is 01:09:10 We had a t-shirt left. Oh, I was wondering. I thought maybe you didn't notice. Well, I had a jersey on, but there was a t-shirt underneath and it's multiple layers. How drunk were you, Ryan? Great parenting. I was kind of just taking the edge off at trying to get back to sea level. Drunk's not the right word.
Starting point is 01:09:31 Looking for some electrolytes maybe. That's what we'll call us. 12 hours earlier, you were up here. And then you dropped way down there. He had to bring her back. Okay. Cornado looked great. Pelchay, just okay.
Starting point is 01:09:47 Klopka made some nice plays, Wolf, some big saves, and the sack of a series, two teams that played each other last year. This Peltz could get his head out of his hoop, too. Let's go. Enough talking about it. Yeah, he wants to be good. Get lost. It's time.
Starting point is 01:10:00 You could have got lost. time. Now a question. When you say, is there a number to call? Hello, Saddle Dome. It's Ryan. It's 4-4-7-46-46. Press 1 for customer service. Did that a few times today. Right. Hi, I'm looking for a shirt. Hello, this is Samantha and customer service. Hi, Samantha. I'm a big idiot that drank too much at the game. And when my pal drove me and my children home, I realized we were missing a T-shirt and a hat and maybe a jacket. What can we do? Thank you, Samantha. You left those details out. the first that was talking about it was a shirt was back to sea level the t-shirt helicopters so you were back to sea level when you forgot the hat the jack that's when i came to i was okay i'm back
Starting point is 01:10:42 baby what the hell is all our belongings so yeah which was it which did you notice first was it the shirt then the house soon as he walked in the door uh happy mother's day it was like where's this t-shirt i'm like he's worn a jersey what do you mean where's the teacette he's missing there there's an inch of fabric missing there then you then this morning i'm like where's my jacket I put it in that damn Your own jacket Moving along Right
Starting point is 01:11:10 We have a very exciting Exclusive live stream tomorrow As Ryan Pike and I will be hosting The live stream of the NHL's draft lottery Here ye, hear ye, here ye, come one, come all losers Non-Playoff teams Gather around the podium Let's listen to Bill Daily talk about things
Starting point is 01:11:32 and watch lottery balls bounce. 4 p.m. join us. That way going to help us out with that live stream. And you're not welcome, Dean, unless they win, then you can come on and apologize for your negativity. Then I'll, yeah, give my thoughts. Last night, we saw the final series of round one conclude. It was in the stars, Dean.
Starting point is 01:11:54 It was in them. Down 2-0, heading to Vegas. Oh, my God. They win in seven, knocking off the defending Stanley Cup champs. there will be a new Stanley Cup champion this year, friends as the stars are through to round two, which means we have a fresh round of crying Jordan memes, right? Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:12 Get into it. Uh, that was, of course, the least, oh boy. Yeah. In Boston, tough crew. It was good then. I think that was when they, I think they had caught a puck. Very exciting.
Starting point is 01:12:23 Yeah, and then they scored shortly their after life was, life was good. Yeah, no, winding the clock back a little further. I think we had Nashville as well. Remember the kid crying? Oh, no, there we are. LTIR. That was Michael Stone's sister-in-law there that was posing with Stone's jersey and LTIR instead of Stone on the back.
Starting point is 01:12:41 No one's laughing about that anymore. And then there's the young boy in Nashville. That was tough. Yeah. Six years old crying on the internet. It's tough. Anyway, we'll wait for another week and a half for another round of crying Jordans. Only seven of those left.
Starting point is 01:12:58 Sports will do it to you. Yeah. Yeah. You had noted the exclusive Doritos for the spring that we see released in Ontario. Right. It's a not a spring in Ontario. It is, again, nacho year. Very good. Here's the special team stats that Frank referenced.
Starting point is 01:13:18 If you want to look at the, how's your power play, how's your penalty kill? The team that had the best special teams in every single series won. The closest was the Panthers and the Lightning. a very slight edge for Florida. And then some were just romps. Like Edmonton, Boston, New York, they went to town on special. LA are the exact opposite ends. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:44 Yeah. You went zero percent on your power play L.A. Do you think that's an area we can improve on? Well, at least the penalty killed did kill off just a little more than half of the oil orler powerplace. Holy shit. 45% settled down. Kings stink. Yeah, honestly, I don't know that midseason you ever would have said it,
Starting point is 01:14:04 but I think the National Predators are a much better team than the L.A. Kings. If you look at the second half of the year, Nashville will be a top five team in the league by many measures. And maybe I'm trying to create hope for the Oilers to stub their toe, but that's not exactly what I'm doing. We'll move along. It's exactly what you're doing. Yeah. Tonight's matchup, what do we got? It is day two of round two and the Bruins right back at it.
Starting point is 01:14:30 staying in rhythm. Game day off day, game day off day, game day off day, right into round two where they get the Panteros. This is a rematch of last year's first round where the Bruins were so heavily favored. No way the Panthers who finished with less points than the Calgary Flames who missed the playoffs would have a chance. And then the Bruns blew a 3-1 series lead and Patrice Berserun and a Bulls, just in his back. Bob went 950 and the rest is history. I like a good rematch, fellas. This could be fun. And I saw breaking news that Bobrovsky is going to start game one.
Starting point is 01:15:02 I changed from last year where they started Alex Lyon. A reminder of how grim things were at one point. I watched a couple of these games, regular season games. They were awesome. Yeah, this should be feisty. Very good. So Panthers and Bruins, okay, what about Tuesday? What are we looking at, Jacko? Tuesday,
Starting point is 01:15:20 Wednesday, because we got to, okay, so there we are. Game two, Rangers hurricanes. And then we get out of stars. Colorado well-rested, as are the Oilers setting into the western semifinals or Western yeah and then there's your Wednesday Bruins Panthers game two and we finally
Starting point is 01:15:36 get Oilers Canucks started which what in the hell are they thinking? I think there's just building availability issues that's all it is yeah it must be some monster trucks or something hey yeah so I saw this there's
Starting point is 01:15:54 a lot of anger and violence in the world we love when people get together just to make peace right there's the Crips and Bloods, that's Flames and Canucks fans here as we unite our hatred for the Edmonton Oilers here for hopefully as much as two weeks as possible. Gosh. And then back to hating the Canucks, right?
Starting point is 01:16:14 Sure. Yeah. Are we, now is that universal? Everybody's, the lesser of the evils is Vancouver, right? Oh, sure. Okay. I mean, it's your biggest rival. You don't cheer for your rivals, period. Got it. How do we feel about it?
Starting point is 01:16:37 We're trying. Really pumping up this Nashville is a good team thing. Nenshi. Frican Nanchi. Salki Award winners, nominees, the finalists. Alexander Barkov's going to win all of these until he retires. And then we'll get pats on the back to the fellows that finish runner up. That'll be Matthews and Jordan Stahl this year.
Starting point is 01:17:03 It's part of Austin Matthews game. I don't think it gets enough credit for action. a good defender. Many of your top scoring forwards or not. Is there any chance that Barcroft doesn't win it? I would suggest that if you went to the Betway and looked, you'd have a huge number next to someone else winning this award. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:21 So it's not impossible. It's a non-zero probability, but it would be like one in ten maybe. Because Matthews scored a lot of goals this year. I don't know if you saw that. Yeah, he's going to win the goal scoring trophy. Yeah. As he should.
Starting point is 01:17:35 That's how many he scored. Yes. Oh. But it was a distraction for the team, as Frank reminded us. Yeah, that's true. You've got to be careful with that. Long shot to win the con smith. Would suggest that.
Starting point is 01:17:48 Rick Bonas, his time has come to an end. He announced his retirement this morning. It'll be a celebration in Winnipeg of a hell of a career. 2,600 games in the NHL. Who! Longtime assistant associate coach. I noted it with Frank. He was in Tampa.
Starting point is 01:18:06 a long time for an assistant and associate, I believe when John Cooper arrived to use an associate coach there. He was with Winnipeg the first time around. A one point. That's a while ago. That's crazy. Yeah. So there you go. A wonderful, I was going to say, a wonderful guy. Yeah. Not a bad word to be said about Rick Bonas around the hockey world. So good on him.
Starting point is 01:18:28 Hell of a career. And good health to he and his family and enjoy retirement, sir. Interesting vacancy, too. Yeah. Yeah. It's got on you or could you get a little sexier? You can get sexier. No question about that.
Starting point is 01:18:48 They are able to do it. Could for sure. WHL retro, did you see this last night? It has been an absolute nail biter. Effing, believable. Now look at the season series here. We're going to game seven between the Blades and Warriors, but how we got there is insane.
Starting point is 01:19:02 Look at all the overtime steam. Game one, game two, game four, game five, game six. free hockey abound. There was one game through six that ended in regulation. That is zany. And a lot of comebacks. I'm going to go ahead and suggest game seven could go to overtime.
Starting point is 01:19:20 It's crazy. Isn't that nuts? Yeah. In tune town, Rhett. Game seven tomorrow night. I'm stressed. Are we going? Let's go.
Starting point is 01:19:31 I can't go while I was counting on him making the next round. Oh, see. Well, yeah, it's going to be tough to go to the next round they lose game seven. No fun. You don't want to use your good karma? They had like, was it Friday?
Starting point is 01:19:45 Yeah, it would have been Friday night, 11,000 plus rock and I don't know. That's what you were dreaming of. Some of that playoff. You do center. Gave up a four goal lead in the third and then win it in overtime.
Starting point is 01:20:01 Drama. I sent this later to Jack. I have a photo with one person you'd know very well and another that we're all getting to know well. there's Tij Ginla that's good work son and do you notice the fellow over his shoulder,
Starting point is 01:20:19 Rhett? Is that crying Jordan? No, that is not. It's not Craig Conroy. It's not crying Jordan. That's Jerome McGilley's father. Who is your teammate, Rhett? Oh. Yeah. I thought you're doing crying Jordan again. Yeah. And
Starting point is 01:20:34 he also works with the Calgary Flames who you played for and his capacity we're all expecting will increase. with the team next year. As his youngest, Joe is off to the Western League. Teague, Ceege, congrats on a gold. Monster tournament for him as well as Gavin McKenna, the 2026, I guess projected first overall pick.
Starting point is 01:20:55 Canadians down 3-1, stormback to stomp the cocky Yankee Doodle Dandies. Yeah, something like that. Major penalty, and they feasted. They went Oilers-esque with the man advantage on the five-minute power play, You show Byron Ritchie and his kid. Yeah. Yeah, have you sent that to Jack, that photo?
Starting point is 01:21:19 I don't know. Spender report. Yeah, the Warner report's coming up next. You'll get the Ritchie photo there. Warner Wednesday. Calvary FC in action Friday night. It was cool. It was rainy.
Starting point is 01:21:35 Guess who didn't care? Not making excuses. Charlie Traffey. He's linking up with Camargo and Charlie Trafford is off to the races. Trafford into the box. He takes a shot and Charlie Trafford. Cabrie boy. A little touch by Camargo.
Starting point is 01:21:53 As Charlie opens up his legs, he's got one thing on his mind here. He's going all the way. He's going to have it go himself. Lovely. Do we need to get a horn or something, like a or a cannon? They do the smoke, Dean. I know they do, but I've, like, for some odd as should be scores. The crowd goes wild.
Starting point is 01:22:10 We need to get. Cablamo. We need something. I like it, Dean. Yeah? What about that quick six? Is she retired? Can we prep for the round?
Starting point is 01:22:20 Sorry, Jack. Now, can you play that highly one more time? We'll just, because now we can maybe throw some things in there. Like, uh, Trouford, he's linking up with Camargo and Charlie Trafford is off to the races. Trafford into the box.
Starting point is 01:22:33 He takes a shot and Charlie Trafford has been to the odds. Yes. Yeah. That's a great little talk about Camargo. I will, uh, Chat with Ian Allison about a Shiboom. A Shibo or a Kablamo and an awu-a-woo.
Starting point is 01:22:51 Potentially. Yeah. Maybe one, not both. Maybe both. I don't know. Yeah. It's, yeah, to be there in person would be a little more exciting than the perhaps the video suggests.
Starting point is 01:23:02 But maybe a Shaboon would be a shot on the video. He just wants to add to the. Yeah. Increase. Yeah. Okay. Noted. I'll pass that along.
Starting point is 01:23:12 I think of the white caps tomorrow, MLS. and you know what? Three degrees. Cold, rainy. Just the way we like it. Just the way we like it. Just the way we like it. Those Prissy Prima Donna MLS
Starting point is 01:23:30 Wimps. Yeah. We can't handle that. Watch your language. Yeah, a lot to say Wimp. Bunch a... Jerk faces. Soft, soft, soft.
Starting point is 01:23:41 Softersens. Sissies. Ah. That's right. Sorry, guys. I take it. I'll take that back. It's just how into this I am.
Starting point is 01:23:50 Didn't somebody get kicked out of government for saying something? It was called someone a wimp. Sicko or something. I'm not sure what it was. Wacko. Wacko. Wacko. Watch your mouth, mister.
Starting point is 01:24:03 Frick and Nensi. Come on. You can't see that. Two of you, watch it. Beat it. You go. So Tuesday should be fun. But yeah, you're going to need a layer probably.
Starting point is 01:24:14 That's good. Watch the white cat. Shaboo! Let's hold for some shabooms and awougas. Okay, you want a shabom. Our boy Tim Naki is betting over 110 grand a hand now, and he had a serious decision on his hands. Let's take a look. It's day 84.
Starting point is 01:24:31 Going to Blackjack and betting 10 cents people of Instagram, follower, I've got there are 1,190,19,000 of your legions in here now. So $119,000 bet coming right up. All righty, back in the goddamn Thunderdome. And on day 84, we had they, $119,000 bet. We're now trying to become Timmy to Millie is the plan. This bloke could operate a monocle for both eyes and he definitely peas and pulls. But he needs to be good to us on the felt today. I want to see picture picture to go deeper into the Millie Sevens. Gross. 10 double down.
Starting point is 01:25:03 It is a double down. Oh my God. It's so much harder to do it with this amount of money on the line. You do not throw maths out the window just because the stakes are higher. Ten on the the table go 10 picture 10 off picture you pull pissing motherfucker please 19 i'll take 19 now go low no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no you fucking pool pisser at least he looks disappointed for me that is absolutely fucking rank and i will see you all tomorrow when we will be beating even more. That's fucked. That one hurts.
Starting point is 01:25:52 The double down. And look at the look on that. Take down. Yeah, the pool pisser. Look what you did, you little jerk. You had to do it. Like you said,
Starting point is 01:26:06 you don't just throw the maths out the window because the stakes are higher. The maths are still the maths. That is a kick in the canerbils. Yeah. Rhett was having a tough time getting his boat launch.
Starting point is 01:26:18 We talked to you about it on Friday. He's still working at getting his boat on. That's a quarter smill, Dean. We get a quarter smil. Here's Rett's boat. Oh. Oh. How do you get that hitch on the front of your truck?
Starting point is 01:26:33 That's a nice little ladd in. Oh, bad back. I do like the real-time yet slow motion of the dude falling out the side of the boat. Yeah. And bink. And then, whoa, yeah. Yeah. This one's called Gator One.
Starting point is 01:27:01 Mountain biking in Florida. This should be fun. That's a good idea. Gators like, what are you doing? Come on. I got to get there. Like, who's the Apex Predator here? Bicycle or
Starting point is 01:27:29 Gator. It's like, why are you on? You're sitting on my head, man. You're the one I'm going to have a problem with. Yeah. Come on. I got to get through here. This is in Florida.
Starting point is 01:27:42 I don't care. So this is just, He got his eyes close. He's out. He's high as a kite. The Everglades, Rett, is the same dream of, eh? Retirement.
Starting point is 01:27:51 Walk by him with the bike in between you? All right. I'm going to walk my bike by. Use it as protection. He's in between you. Pardon me? Go, go, go, go, go. Get the hell out of there.
Starting point is 01:28:10 Just listen to a little tail. Yeah, he got a little chomp off there, didn't it? Yeah. Anyway, that'll be right in retirement. One of those e-pits. bikes. He doesn't have to pedal as hard. You just have to worry about the gators. Yeah. Can't we?
Starting point is 01:28:25 Another gator. Oh, no, that's a crock. They look at size of this monster. Holy shit. It's like a diesel dean. It's like a V6. Oh. I don't like that at all. It's like literally the water splashing from the vibration of his like roar. Yeah. He's he's all horned up. That's right at last call right there.
Starting point is 01:29:05 Yeah. Put in the vibe mode. We got this pal that goes into the Everglades at night and film shit. It's, uh, well, this Tim Nacul, but it's pretty good. Florida Everglades,
Starting point is 01:29:16 and I'm helping this swamp puppy cross the road. You won't get hit by a car on my watch, buddy. Hey, Mr. Coddenmouth. No way I'm going to yonk you. Just kidding, I did.
Starting point is 01:29:24 But never do that, guys. Time for the rock test. Yep, he's right there. Works every time. Not today, Mr. Crocodile.
Starting point is 01:29:33 You sure are handsome, though. This corn snake sure is feisty. I'm not going to hurt you little guy. I just want that 20-foot Burmese python. I found this little kitty cat in the road. Good thing I got him across in time. Check this out. This is a panther chameleon. A very gentle yoink. He's going to be my new pet. Isn't he gorgeous? Have you seen any big pythons, Mr. Swamp puppy? No, no, don't go. Ooh, bullfrog. Yoink? Oh, it's okay, buddy. Don't run away, Mr. Swamp
Starting point is 01:30:01 puppy. I'm going to save you from that 20-footer. Python, yoink. Where's that 20-footer? This yellow rat snakes just chowing down on me. It doesn't hurt too bad. Every trip in the Everglades, I find one of these native Brooks King snakes. Florida, man, I don't know. You gotta stay to the east. You gotta get on the beaches. Stay away from the rainforest.
Starting point is 01:30:28 East or the west. This middle portion. No fun. Lake Okeechobee. No. When I saw this video this morning of a fishing boat out by Dunedin. Mm. And then dozens of sharks.
Starting point is 01:30:42 just kind of. So it's a drone, it's a drone video, and it's literally like dozens. Don't fall in. Thanks for passing that along, Dean. Let's go to some boxing highlights. Dean, you had a big boxing event on the weekend? Yeah, I was.
Starting point is 01:31:02 Boy, this is a good one. Yeah. I have a size disparity here, Rhett. Like Mike Tyson Punchout. I don't even get some of this. It looks like dude's got a... Oh. Good night.
Starting point is 01:31:25 Yeah, it's going to end that fight there. It's over. I had money on the other guy. Yeah. There was a real fight on the weekend. Same sort of results. Yeah. Tell us about it.
Starting point is 01:31:37 Canello. Canello. Upper cut over. Oh, good knock about it. Super lightweight. Is that what that... I don't know what the weight would be. I think it was something like that.
Starting point is 01:31:49 that. Canello, he's one of the best to ever do it. And still doing it. He's been doing it forever. Yeah. Just remember the first rib you ever had? Like a joke? No. A shovel for that. Give me those ribs. Come here. You. Someone filmed their kid having a rib for the first time. Watch the face, Rhett. Oh, yeah, give me more of that.
Starting point is 01:32:26 That's the good stuff. Yes. Yeah. Oh. Delicious. Dean, your kid was back in the gym working out. The last time we checked in the weights fell back and scratched up your car. Sorry about your luck there.
Starting point is 01:32:42 This time we're in the backyard, though. We're out of the garage. This is my kid, is it? Okay. Listen to Drake probably. Oh, hey. That's a good spot there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:52 You grabbed him right at the weight. Oh, thanks for the spot. Take your time. Let's watch this again. He's like, I'm going to need some help coming up here. And so the guy giving him the spot basically gives him a hug. What? Look at how slow.
Starting point is 01:33:07 Still not off. That's a terrible spot. Horrible. What are we doing? Grab the. Brutal. I'd be done working out with that. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:21 Still not off. Yeah. Oh, hey, did you, uh, what's, what's it? Oh. What do I do? Thanks, man. Now, somebody lost their hamster, I think, down at the bottom of the old well. Gerbil?
Starting point is 01:33:40 Now, let's see. So dad's gone in to fix the problem. He's gone to the bottom of the hole here in the yard. The kids are Jack. Comey the hammy the hamster's back. Perfect. Good work, Mom. Yeah, we got Hammie back.
Starting point is 01:33:57 You love a good cappianne, don't you mean? Is that comedy or tragedy? What do we got there? That's a bulls, yeah. Buster. Busty, no. And I don't know if this is, this is sent in by the Hilton's,
Starting point is 01:34:24 who, of course, have the family farm that grows all the beautiful barley that makes a beautiful malt, that makes a beautiful beer at origin. But it looks like this, our neck of the woods, wrote the tall grass here on the farm. this is going to go leave five sure leave
Starting point is 01:34:51 jeez how fast would you run they knew that thing was in there these people are stupid yeah i was going to say this is uh i would actually want to see when they stopped filming that's what i would have started it but i wouldn't be filming the cat i'd be filming the idiot with the camera in the face of the cougar yeah it'd just be hey uh those are some of the most horrific videos of those cats
Starting point is 01:35:18 that are coming at guys on paths in the mountains. I feel like yeah, not it. You are in trouble. Yeah, we've got a quarter section. We're looking to sell. That's your Pinder Report on a Monday fellas. There you go. Village
Starting point is 01:35:34 Honda, pre-owned vehicles, they got them. Over 90 on site, access to more than 500 more inside the dealership group. It's all makes, it's all models, it's all budgets. With that dealership group, it's the power. they have and purchase power, bringing whatever it is that you need. Your one stop, truly one stop, automotive destination in Calgary,
Starting point is 01:35:53 worth the trip, Village Honda located in the Northwest Auto Mall. Do you think Johnny Village Honda was at the Calvary game? I know he was. You know he was. He'll be tomorrow. Of course he was. So is there. He's living there.
Starting point is 01:36:09 I wonder how he, because there was an F1 race yesterday too, the one down in Miami. Yes. An actual race for the one guy. wins them all didn't win it. The yes, Max Verstappen had to settle for second. Which means he actually got on TV because normally he gets so far ahead,
Starting point is 01:36:24 they just stop showing him and it's the race for second is what they start watching. That seemed to be a trend when a guy starts to win. Who's before him? Well, Lewis Hamilton had a run. Lewis Hamilton had the run for a long time. Schumacher for a while. Even Villeneuve had a couple years where no one was touching him.
Starting point is 01:36:41 Look at you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I feel like we've done kind of all we can today. Certainly not going to dive into more flames talk. Well, you know, I was going to say, now, this is kind of it now. You 18s are done. This is, right? This is the last opportunity for scouts and teams to watch these guys on the ice before the draft comes.
Starting point is 01:37:14 T. Jiginla has done nothing but elevate his stock. Bob McKenzie released his top 14 or 15 today ahead of tomorrow's lottery that involves all the 16 teams that didn't make the playoffs. Yeah. Teage's top 10. See? Where?
Starting point is 01:37:33 How? That number exactly, I'm told. Numara enough or D's? 10. It's right in that range. Teage had what? In the gold medal game of goal two helpers yesterday? I believe so.
Starting point is 01:37:49 They storm back there. You said it, the major. I wonder when Jerome was holding up the number one. I thought maybe somebody asked, when are you taking Teesh, round one? With our first pick. Yeah, round one. What if you win the draft lottery?
Starting point is 01:38:02 Oh, Mm-hmm. Rhett says we need to get another pick, if that's the case. We're going to have to do something to get back into the first round to take Teesh. It's got to be him.
Starting point is 01:38:15 I need an update, Rhett, on your child, who really wants to see the Florida Panthers play, but is above first round NHL playoff hockey. The Panthers are now in round two. This was his take
Starting point is 01:38:26 yesterday. Dad, who won the game? Saturday night. Boston. Because Boss used to be his old squad. Really? And he grimaced. And I'm like, what?
Starting point is 01:38:38 You don't like boss anyone? No, I do still kind of like Boston. Trotto would have been an easier out. Yeah. For the Panthers. So he's a little concerned that Boston's going to put up more of a fight. Okay.
Starting point is 01:38:52 But Boston's close. Well, it's not closer to Toronto. There's a lot of parameters your kid has set out for things. Hey? This is a tough, tough, uh, articleer for Gary Betman put throwing these series out there to get his attention. He doesn't want to go see round one playoff action in Florida with his dad. No, no.
Starting point is 01:39:12 Too soon. Too soon. So is this is we now round two possible? or is Sastuteung getting in it? I could talk him into it, but he thinks the Rangers are going to win and that probably should go back and forth in the semis.
Starting point is 01:39:25 We'll go to New York, Madison Square Garden, and back and forth between Florida and New York. Seems. That's reasonable, yeah. Seems reasonable. Seems reasonable. Well, he is your child, right?
Starting point is 01:39:41 It's done. Don't worry. It's not like we make plans anyway. We just fly by the seat of our pants. Yeah. 15, 20 minutes before. of the flight. My mother-in-law gave me shit today.
Starting point is 01:39:52 Really? Dear she. A couple weeks noticed at least, can't you? Oh. Pardon? Is that the tone we need to take with you, Rhett? What was that about? What was it pertaining?
Starting point is 01:40:11 Travel stuff. Yeah. Weeks notice. That, for the first time, I doubt it. Good luck. I'm certainly not going to do it now. The last time Rhett had his schedule planned out more than the week of half in advance. It was an NHL schedule and he was playing for the team.
Starting point is 01:40:29 Yeah. There it is. Oh, wait. Just got something I'm going to share with the group coming up here. But we'll do our Betway bets. How would we do that? Do our Betway bets and then a little something and then we'll get the H out of here on a Monday. Betway, bet the responsible way with Betway.
Starting point is 01:40:50 We're off to round number two of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now, how did we do in round one, I guess? Would be the way to look at it. I had, so the East went four for four. I had Winnipeg and then Vancouver, Edmont, Dallas. So it took all the favorites. Way to go. Really?
Starting point is 01:41:18 Right. Yeah. Deep insight there. Winnipeg was not a favorite. So that was his only mistake. Yeah. Yeah. Figured I needed to go against the grain a little bit.
Starting point is 01:41:28 Where were you going to get that one win, that one series win where everybody was going the other way? Thought maybe that was it. I almost couldn't have been more wrong. They did win a game. 7 and 1 is actually very right, Dean. So pat yourself on the back. That's a hell of the first round. No, for, for, for, there's retro.
Starting point is 01:41:46 Four and four. 44 had Toronto to win. Did not, but had the other three in the east. And then tough. The West threw you a bit for a bit of a loop. What am I going to do? Pick, you can't pick the Oilers.
Starting point is 01:42:02 Yeah, like, don't like now you. Did you truly feel Nashville or were you thinking this is going to be where I'm going to make up ground? I did think I'd make up a little ground. Right. And you too had one to pick. Dumb.
Starting point is 01:42:19 So four and four for round number one for Retro. And the Pinder. Oh, there's Jackie Boy. who also had the Leafs. Jeez, Leaves. But nailed the other... Yeah, nailed the other three in the East. You had L.A. to beat the Oilers, Winnipeg as well.
Starting point is 01:42:36 Wow, we were way off. So I thought we were all taking Emmetton, and then I saw Dean didn't take Emmington. I thought we were all just taking the L on that one. No, I definitely took Edmonton. Or sorry, I thought we were all taken against Edmonton. Yeah, no. No, you, and you didn't.
Starting point is 01:42:53 I did not, no. Because there was no way the King, I mean, we can, we can look for voodoo and all kinds of weird hokey shit to happen. The Kings were not going to beat the Oilers. Not going to waste some negative oiler juju in a series. They have no chance of losing. So I'm saving that shit up. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:43:13 Yeah, yeah, we need it all at once. Yeah. So five and three for Jackie boy. Pretty good. Yeah, pretty good. Pinder also going five and three. I went against the grain on the bolts. I really thought that could have been a great upset.
Starting point is 01:43:25 but we're trying too hard maybe. You know what, though? You forget where we were two, two and a half weeks ago. That was shaping up for it be a six, seven game series. We were hoping so. Yeah, it did not. Thinking Toronto. And also you can, I think, never take the Oilers.
Starting point is 01:43:42 So we'll find out as our round two picks are set to be unveiled. There you have it. Carolina and the Rangers. Now, the Rangers did win game one. I'm still going to go with Carolina. Boston, Florida, give me the Panthers, Vancouver, Edmonton, much like last round.
Starting point is 01:44:00 I'm not wasting oiler negative juju here. Oilers win. And Colorado will beat Dallas. Those are my picks for round two. Rets got the Rangers, the Pantaros. Now he's taking the Oilers. Well, I've learned that we could.
Starting point is 01:44:18 Oh, okay. And Colorado to beat the Dallas stars. Give us your, the thought process on the Colorado pick. Did you watch them last round? I did. I have,
Starting point is 01:44:31 what I did. That'd be enough. Okay, fair enough. Now, Florida to beat Boston, anything there? Anything to share?
Starting point is 01:44:39 Boston is, they're tired. Florida looked good. They, well. Okay, there it is. That's the analysis.
Starting point is 01:44:47 Boston tired of him. Look, yeah. And you like the Rangers. They won a game home. series lead have anything to do with it. A lot of the games, so I just feel like I'm going to. They win three more. Yeah. It's math.
Starting point is 01:44:59 It's simple math. All right. Well, good luck. Improving on your four and four. Pinder, walk us through. Like Carolina as well. Got to get that split coming back to rally. Working on that fellas. Florida's a better team in my mind. They just looked like a team built for the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:45:16 And obviously, the Oilers suck. And Colorado, I'm with. Like them. Star Power, they can turn it to 11 and put people in the, in the old, uh, Chelsea World. Oh, I see. There you go. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:32 So there you go. And Jack, give us, give us the details. I, I felt bad because I picked Carolina to go all the way. And then the Rangers won, but I'll stick to my guns.
Starting point is 01:45:46 But the Rangers look really good yesterday. You don't need to, listen. That's not. Our plate. you do what your what your what your range is the bod. No, no, no, no,
Starting point is 01:45:56 no, Florida's the better team. Vancouver, I don't think they're very good. I'll take Edmonton and then Colorado. They're going to go all the way. Is no one taking Dallas? No one has Dallas.
Starting point is 01:46:14 No one has Boston. Yeah. We're kind of splittsies on, well, you're the only one that took Vancouver, Pinder. I just don't think the Oilers have the star power. They're special teams. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:32 Yeah. Hey, crazy shit happens every year. Make this series be the one that crazy shit happens. Thank you. There you go. But it is shaping up to be a hell of a second round. There's no Cinderella that snuck through and beat out a heavyweight that's going to get rolled up in round number two. Somebody might get rolled up, but not because they're not deserving to be there.
Starting point is 01:46:55 you know what's that? Yeah, and someone in the comments makes a good point. If you're cheering for the flames, conditional picks, the Vegas ones off the table, you still have the Dallas Vancouver West Final as getting two conditional picks for the flames. A fourth to a third from the Canucks and an additional third from Dallas.
Starting point is 01:47:13 So if you're just straight, what's good for the flames, it's Dallas Vancouver. And Dallas has to make the final, right? Correct. Yeah, that's right. Vancouver's pick would trigger as soon as they get to the Western Final. Stars have to beat Vancouver.
Starting point is 01:47:25 for you to get the additional third in the TANF deal. There we go. There we go. Bet the responsible way with Betway. The official gaming partner of Barnburner and Flames Nation, there you have it. Create a new account, scan the QR code on the screen, redeem your bonus.
Starting point is 01:47:46 Place a bet, no minimum amount required. If it loses, you'll get a refund up to $200. You can use that to then bet on your favorite sports. Offer only available outside of Ontario. So get on your jersey and get your, get your green on. Yeah. And cheer for your favorite teams here in round number two. Round number two.
Starting point is 01:48:11 It sure goes from lots of hockey to. I know. One game tonight, two tomorrow, two Wednesday. If there's a dud, you can't switch to another red. That's not where we're at anymore. That first day when there's no playoff hockey is always, oh, son of a gun. what are we going to do it's the pulp fiction john travolta meme go for a walk what do you
Starting point is 01:48:35 like what and last night the hell you what catan oh love katan great great who won settlers hi me we can't play catan because things were too contentious every time we tried that people have a full veto on katan we own katan got it can't play katan it's a good game i know it's a game. I know it's a popular game. I don't know enough about it though. Just need your wood, your or. Kind of a nerd game though, right? Download it on your phone, Dean. Kind of nerdy. Definitely nerdy.
Starting point is 01:49:08 Yeah. And that's not, you're not a nerd. So candy crush it is. No, you know what? I've been playing, uh, I'm playing gin, gin rummy on my phone. That's what's what's, that's not nerd. That's old fashioned nerd. Ancient. Cool kids are playing it. gin rummy. Good game.
Starting point is 01:49:31 It's great game. You need double gins? Delicious. Tough for the Wranglers, as you had laid out in the Pinder report. One game one, how to lead in game two. I mean,
Starting point is 01:49:44 Trent calls, you know what he's doing? He's trying to set the table. He doesn't want any excuses. No negative. But there's evidence. It would seem to suggest that if not offside, then too many men on the ice.
Starting point is 01:49:55 But either way, a collapse. In the late stages of the hockey game, now it's an even series going to Coachella Valley, wherever that is. But you know what? It's not all about wins and losses, guys. A little heartwarming video here for you from the dome from yesterday's game. Chris Sutter time. Chris back in the Jumbotron where he belongs, getting the crowd wound up.
Starting point is 01:50:25 Blast me. Everybody loves it. You know who else loves it? Yep. He's that. Big D. One son of the Jumbotron, one son on the ice. Proud popper right there.
Starting point is 01:50:41 Sitting there in the second deck. Hiding, I guess. Sting. Better seats. It's a better vantage point. Great for viewing. Yeah. He doesn't go to center ice.
Starting point is 01:50:53 He's always at the end zone behind the net. Sure. Sure. Yeah. See the whole thing. Big D. Well, man, how do you think we did today? Out of 10?
Starting point is 01:51:10 Sure. Seven. Yeah, seven's a good number. Six and a half. Too high, yeah. Why, Frank was great. We argued about the Leafs. I think you're overestimating.
Starting point is 01:51:23 We've kind of, or underestimate. Look, at, rats, there's a track record here. Dean wouldn't be too negative about something. It's a good point by Ryan. I feel like maybe, I'm putting myself in here, maybe a quart low today, a little, kind of, feel like our usual vim and vigor we are maybe a little. Well, it always stinks when we start off with sports talk.
Starting point is 01:51:47 Yeah, who did that? Like, it never works. And I think that Tim Nackie, I mean, that threw us all through. How are we rallying from that? That's a quarter million dollars. Dean. Oh boy. It's a quarter million dollars.
Starting point is 01:52:04 That poor bastard just lost. What are we going to do? Hoopla and Hoopla and no. No. We're not going to do any of that. No. But you just laid out there. We're not doing any of that stuff.
Starting point is 01:52:16 Not after that. And you know what? I was going to say right off the start when he was doing his walk, doing the walk, setting things up. He wasn't wearing a hat. I was like, well, where's your hat? What are you doing? I wasn't quite the same.
Starting point is 01:52:26 You know, his hair, wispy. It looks like maybe you had a shower, no product in there, no hat. What are we doing, Tim? No. I'm not here to tell him how to, he's had a hell of a run. But I'm kind of a superstitious guy. If you're, if you're going, stick to your, you know, I'm worried because that sort of loss. Those are the ones that can start a trend. Yeah. Is he resting on his laurels? Is that what we're seeing, Dean, with the new hat? There might be some laurel resting. Yeah. Those laurels might have some some restage on them for sure. I do wonder too, though.
Starting point is 01:53:03 Yeah. That's like a, that's like a two banger today. That's like two losses, yeah. Right? You double down, you lose. And what a kick in the, what a, it hurts.
Starting point is 01:53:15 When do you just disappear from the internet? Hey, where's the guy that was doing the bets every day? Remember that thing? Tensi was in to. Every full of, yeah, I was like,
Starting point is 01:53:25 I'll see you tomorrow. We'll be betting even more of that guy. Did he, uh, there's got to be some sort of calculation. as far as what he's making from being, having a million, whatever they're followers and stuff. He's got some partnerships.
Starting point is 01:53:39 He's doing all right. He's selling merch. Yeah. But if you just accumulated a million dollars plus, yeah. How many years of this BS do I have to work? Do you think he'll sell $250,000 of merch today? No.
Starting point is 01:53:55 No. Now, Rhett, when you made your first million, where you're like, okay, like, that's good. Now I don't need to play hockey anymore. I'll just go. Mine was not based on. I was had guaranteed contracts. It was not based on the flip of a rick and guard where the
