Barn Burner: Boomer & Pinder with Rhett Warrener - The Winnipeg Jets Have A MASSIVE Connor Hellebuyck Problem π¬ w/TSN's Darren Dreger | BB Clips
Episode Date: June 17, 2026Boomer, Pinder and Rhett are joined by TSN's Darren Dreger to discuss one of the biggest rumours making the rounds in Winnipeg: could the Jets actually trade Connor Hellebuyck? If it were to happen, i...t would represent a franchise-altering decision for an organization that has built around one of the NHL's elite goaltenders for years. Dregs shares what he's hearing about Hellebuyck's future, why speculation continues to grow, and what factors could ultimately determine whether the Jets keep or move their star netminder. The guys also debate Winnipeg's current position as a team caught between competing and retooling, what a Hellebuyck trade package could look like, and whether moving him would signal a much larger shift within the organization. Are the Jets heading toward a major crossroads, or is there still a path to keeping Connor Hellebuyck in Winnipeg long-term? Let us know what you think in the comments.Video Link: https://youtu.be/s0rm660w4Ss#nhl #nhlshorts #nhlplayoffs #nhlpredictions #nhlhockey #nhlpicks #stanleycup #stanleycupfinal #winnipegjets CHECK OUT OUR STUFF β¬οΈBARN BURNER MERCHhttps://nationgear.ca/collections/shirts/FlamesnationBARN BURNER SHORTS https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj_bcGtvvo-cW2DHEDZ6dEO5ePDmlhZc9&si=jo8iNGxT4ImhS2Y8π² Follow us:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fnbarnburner/X (Twitter): https://x.com/barnburnerfn?lang=enπ§ Listen on:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/be/podcast/barn-burner-boomer-pinder-with-rhett-warrener/id1648562889Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3Mc6Qd5U22R2zbMlQ7RxIiProducer: Jack Haverstock Hosted on Acast. I guess on trades, we know that Larkin is out there and nurse and we hear names like
Shane Wright and there's some other Metavish in Anaheim.
Do you expect there to be some, I mean, it's kind of a silly question, but it does feel
like there are some players who have been talked about moving for a long time.
Okay, the most captivating for me is Connor Hallibuck.
And when you look at the Winnipeg Jets, they need an number.
two center. They need a number four center. They need bigger and more aggressive defense,
you know, tougher guys, physical guys that aren't easy to play against. They just got rid of
Logan Stanley. I know. Yeah. I don't think you could play a high and up and a full lineup,
but he is. Maybe. Yeah. And I mean, if you're willing to consider Hellebuck, and they are,
let's just be, let's just be fair in this. Winnipeg is willing to consider moving Connor Hallibuck.
and if they are, then you've got to tick off at least a couple of the boxes that I just described,
preferably a number two center, and maybe you get a defenseman on top of that,
and you worry about the 4C down the path, because there's always going to be that player
potentially available in free agency or a trade.
But you move Hala Buck, okay, what are you doing in goal now?
And then that gets a little slippery for the Winnipeg Jets.
what I know is this.
Shovel Day Off is listening to the teams that are calling.
And teams are calling on Connor Helibuck and why?
Well, because we all heard is end-a-year media availability
where he made it abundantly clear how unhappy was how the season went, right?
So where is he now?
You know, as his mindset changed, is he willing to be patient
and allow the jets, you know, to plug some of those holes?
I don't know.
I'm giggling because,
and I think it was,
it was an absolute home run for Shevleday.
I got,
Sheikley and Hella,
guys that are going to leave.
Everyone's going to leave Winnipeg.
We've got them signed up.
They want to be here.
And now.
So those comments at the end of the season,
like part of me was like,
wow, there might be something here to what is what you're talking about now.
And the other part was like,
is this just a guy that's really frustrated and really competitive
who thought he was,
on a cup container and the season went sideways.
And he's just saying, I don't know how to fix it.
I'm not the GM.
Or is he saying, I need better GMing if we're going to do.
I didn't know how to take that.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, he did to be better.
I guess the one thing, it doesn't matter who the GM is.
When you look at the assets that the Winnipeg Jets have,
what are you willing to part with that you need to part with to acquire a number two center?
And the tricky part is the same challenge that she'll lay off his face for years and years and years.
and it'll be the same.
If shovel a off is let go tomorrow,
which isn't going to happen,
he's in early days of a contract extension,
like I can't think of another team
where there would be players,
like Winnipeg is the team
that most players who have trade protection
have on their no trade list.
It's Winnipeg.
There are other teams,
Canadian teams primarily,
but Winnipeg is right near the top of
that food chain. So what are you using for collateral or bait to acquire a number two center
that doesn't have trade protection, right? You don't just find those players. So then you get into
the younger pieces, Salamonson, Perfetti. I mean, Cole Perfetti is a restricted free agent.
You know, they're talking, but they're not, they're not close on a deal. And then you have to go
into the realm of Connor Hallibuck because of what he said.
And I would say this about the Winnipeg Jets.
I know that ownership group very well.
They're as loyal to their people as I can't think of another owner in the National
Hockey League and there are many good ones, if not great ones.
There's more loyal to their staff, their players, their organization people in general
than Mark Jibman.
All right.
But that cuts both ways.
If you're unhappy and maybe you don't want to be there,
Okay. All right. We'll figure it out.
So Winnipeg is definitely high on our radar to watch.
Do we all like, it's odd.
Winnipeg should have been all last year at this time,
high up president trophy, didn't they win it before?
Anyway, one of the top 10 teams in the league for sure.
Edmonton, same thing, Toronto.
Yeah.
Like all these teams.
But back to Winnipeg, did they follow?
off the turn up truck
or is there something
I've heard coaching is an issue
I'm just going to say it.
Is there something to it?
Well, I don't know that
because I'm not in the room. I guess what I would
say is when I watch
their star players that I think of
Shifley and I think of Kyle Connor,
I mean, those guys are so offensively gifted
right?
That I can appreciate that at times
you just want to let the horses run a little bit
but I don't think that Rick Bono
allowed those guys to do that.
You know, I think that he was more,
he was more demanding of defensive detail.
Like, we need you guys to be as responsible,
responsible as you possibly can be.
Look, you'll have time in the offensive zone to,
you know, Babcock used to call it the fun zone
to do what you're going to do and all of that.
But we need you to be able to defend.
And, you know, when I watch this team,
and I isolate those two guys because they're the head of the snake
in a good way, not a bad way, right?
You shut down Mark Sheffley and Kyle Connor,
and most often than not,
you're probably going to find a way to beat the Winnipeg Jets.
And that happened more often than not, I think, last year.
And that put added pressure on that blue line.
And then at times put more pressure on Connor Halebuck in the goaltending.
So maybe I'm answering your question that way,
Wrette, without knowing whether or not the players feel like Scott Arneal is an issue.
I don't think management thinks it's a, it's a,
a coaching issue.
Yeah,
well,
that's fine for management.
I love Barneal in there
because I had heard that,
but Edmonton made a coaching change.
Toronto made a coaching change.
They're one of the teams that should have been,
you know,
when we look at Florida not doing well,
well,
Christ,
they were beat to piss.
Like,
you're not going to fire Maurice.
No,
right?
So,
no.
Anyway.
