Big progress. So expect him to be, they're going to want to get him in the lineup. I have hypothetical pairs. It's a very looking blue line. I have a quote here if you like it. Conroy has a bone on to get Miramanov in the lineup. I'm not,

it's not accurate. I could have got that wrong. It's weird that. Brendan Parker would say that. He's so polite. You have. So these are your pairings or these are? No, I just get like they have, I think they're extra as Gilbert right now because they want to see Hanley.

They just got him. I think they want to get Miramanov in. Five of those six guys can play the right side. That is like the exact opposite of most NHL clubs. Uighurs are righty that's played the left almost the whole time here. Anderson is a right. Pahal's a right. Miramanoff's a right.

And Hanley's played left and right in Dallas. There's a lot of flexibility here because you've got two guys that can play both sides. I wonder what they do with the pairs. There was some thought that, who the, who knows? And what they've kind of been doing is separating their two really good ones, like Weger and Anderson have played a lot together. They're sort of letting other guys play with those guys to try to ease the load a little rather than have a pair of two waiver claims or, you know,

guy with 29 games the last three years with guy who played 39 games this year. we'll see what happens. Well, you can mix it up how you want. That's still the case. The guys are games played. Yeah, just rather than those guys out together, give them a Uyger, give them an Anderson, then put Uyghur and Anderson, then put Uyghur and Anderson.

Like, there's going to be a lot of minutes for those two and Shillington, I believe, as well. I didn't see last night's breakdown, but I imagine there was three a lot bigger than the others. You should look at it. It might surprise you. Yeah, and you know what? The game script might have helped that too, right? Braden Pahal, what, 21 minutes?

In comes the, again, with Dallas, who knows? Was this part of maybe they talked enough about Tannaev over the recent few weeks? Maybe these are some names that moved. Emilio Pedersen of the Flames goes to Dallas. He was a sixth rounder in 2018. Riley Damiani is a fifth rounder in 2018. He's also 23. It's same guy, same draft, both looking for.

Change a sooner. I guess new fresh starts. Well, and the flames just don't have centers. Like, if it's a comparable player and one's center and one's not,

that's a good deal. But I don't know that either of these guys are destined for a lot of of NHL hockey. They could be. I mean, how do we feel about

Yeah, got it. That's what we were saying. That's what we were saying is, yes, the Tampa Bay Lightning looked like they were waiting for some kind of reinforcements to come in. They looked tired. They looked overmatched. It did not look like a team that was

hanging on to a playoff spot and knew they had to win. No, and I think if this was another portion of the season, you'd understand if Tampa maybe looked a little past the flames, but we were just talking about it yesterday. they were four points up, two games in hand held by the Islanders. That's now two back with two games in hand for the Islanders. Like they are right in the thick of a chase here. Nothing is guaranteed for these lightning.

They look like I think they're a team that's played so much hockey that they're done. They look like a tired group. They look like a group that has had those long playoff runs and it ain't going to happen again. They do, but it also, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they got into a series. and it's still Vasilevsky and it's still that power play and it's still point in Kuturov and Stamkos and Hedman. Well, we can have that bet in a month if they make it. But no, I'm with you.

I could see them missing. I could also see them getting in and being a nightmare. But, I mean, it's almost the end of that window. Doesn't it feel like that? 100%. Is Headman's 33. Stamcoast is a free agent? Yeah.

God, he's been good. Career goals, 25. Now his career high. A four point night is a career night. He's a point away from career eye and points. He's shooting it. He's around it. Is he relieving any of the stress that Pinder had over centerman?

Yes. Like, honestly, if this guy could be a center, that changes a lot. It does. And we kind of talked about it last night. I want to hear your thoughts on it. No, it's just, they move them to, you move them to the middle and say, well, this is not a long-term thing. Just get us through this, this tight spot. Yeah.

And then he plays okay. And then he gets a little bit better, but the points are gone. And now the points are starting to come back. It's not, can he be your number one center? But if he can be a centerman and still provide the offense, you know he can give you, then it, it kind of does change your whole top nine strategy potential. It really does. It doesn't mean they won't still try to add young centers, but if he was not a center and

It was like, man, this is a, this is sticking out like a sore thumb here. That makes Craig Conroy's shopping list a lot more tricky this summer. Centers are the hardest thing to add. You know you got two good ones, but they're 33 and 35. So if Sharon Govich at 25, 26, 27 wants to be a center, not just a winger that can score that changes a ton for this group. And I still don't think he's creating as much offense, but he seems to be creating more of late.

And obviously we just watched a four point game. But if he can be a 25 to 30 goal center, then leave them there. That's way more valuable than a winger, right? That's, that kind of feels like best case. Like he's just now gotten to 25. 25's a career high. 20 games left. I may, maybe. Like, again, I'm sort of saying best case scenario isn't the most likely. But if that were the case, God, isn't that something that fell into Connie's lap? Not only did you make a deal with Tofoli that people kind of pan the player, like what is he? But he turned out to be a centerman that is, you know, with Hubertow has now come to life with him

more than any other center he's played with in Calgary, which is crazy. And whether it's Kuzmenko or Hunt or, you know, last night, Peltier, that line is starting to create some offense. I guess I'm curious, too, though, when you start getting into games that matter and you're going up against the other elite centers in the Western Conference, how does he line up against a Kopitar? You go down the line of centers in the West. I don't know.

Maybe that's not where you put him. Well, I mean, he would be their third best defensive center. So you would have a lot of heavy lifting with Cadre and Backland because they're great 200 foot centermen. You don't need him to be that. But I would sort of put a comp to like Sean Monaghan. Who would you rather have? Like he's a much better skater. They're both good shooters.

Neither of them are good in their own zone. You load them up in the O zone. You try to give him soft matchups at home. Like he's not a number one center. But if he could be the 2B or 3 center, that's a tiny bit of work. Yeah, they don't have a number one center. But if you've got three. twos. Yeah, and that's kind of what it looks like. We've kind of been talking about Backlin

as a three center for four or five years. He keeps staying at that really good checking number two, like almost a Selpke type center. Like he's going to get his 45 to 50 points as 15 goals with the heaviest minutes of any center on the team in terms of who he's playing against. And it gives you some reason to think that there's this is sustainable. This is not a guy's first year in the league. He's been, he's scored now not to this clip, but he had a 24 goal year. this is not crazy to think that this, that you do have something potentially special here moving forward. It's,

it's a tremendous fine if that's the case. And then you mix in, like we said, with Zari, pospousal, they were kind of found money. Yep. What if the guys that you're really counting on,

like Coronado, what if the, Hansik, what if the first round guys that you do expect, and Zeri was a first rounder, of course, but then if they start to factor in a little bit, and if he'll take in a lot better last night,

too. I mean, we all know he could shoot it, but his relent. relentless work to retrieve pucks and breakup plays in the ozone, like really good F1 player, that's starting to show up at the NHL level. It's been at the A all year.

People raved about it, but that was looking better last night. Well, one thing that you give Conroy credit, you don't get to find out if those guys are good if you fill all those holes before they're given a chance. Well, and I guess our point all summer was,

Matt Darrell wouldn't have, didn't try these guys. And he didn't think they were ready, but how would he have known? You watched him in camp for a week. that was it. And he'd already made the team up in camp. It was the Bs against the A's. Of course, they didn't look good. And I said it last night, maybe he did us all a favor because he gave him another year to

You can see it both ways. That's fine. Yeah. They are now contributing. And if those other guys contribute, even better. I would have a tough time believing at least one or two of these cats couldn't have got you more than Lewis, Richie, Luch. No.

But there is that thing where it's like, make them over ready, overwrite. Somebody asked last night, one of the questions was, Markstrom wasn't good last year and they just fell short and he's really good how is it only the goal tender that's making difference? I'm like it's not.

You've got a bunch of kids that have come in and made the team better. We showed it on yesterday's show, the roster from the Battle of Alberta series. So that's less than two years ago. It was basically what, May of 2022. There's three forwards and two defense left. Like there's been a massive turnover of this roster.

It doesn't look like the same team. if you had a jersey with a name bar on the back in 22, most likely that's now stuck in the back of the closet. Like that guy's gone. With that win, they've now won 10 of 14. And even with this stretch, they've lost ground to Nashville,

who has just traded for Jason Zucker this morning. So he will come in. So the two teams in the wild card spots, Nashville and Vegas. And we know what Vegas has done and we'll continue to do theoretically, potentially here today. But they are six back of,

Vegas. I mean, they're they're well back and have been playing well and the goalie's been good and they've just traded two of their top 4D. I just I get it. We're negative, we're half empty.

And as Rhett said last night and we'll just repeat it. It's been a hell of a job by Huska and the coaches. Somehow, some way, they've avoided some maybe malcontents in the room. the inevitable stripping down of a lot of the veterans and UFAs on this roster.

They've just played hockey. It's been, is a game day or off day, they just, they show up, they do their work. There's been some stinkers in there. But you can, you can count the stinkers on one hand. The impressive performances have far outweighed the duds. Six or seven is a hell of a run when you consider that TANV's been away for now, what, half those, three of them at least. And now you've gone one without Hannafin.

And look, I think Hanley is a much better player than what they would have slid in prior to his arrival. And we'll see what Miramano of is. They might have papered this thing over really nicely, at least for the, what, 20 games remaining. When I said yesterday, I said, you know, how are they staying? I'm like, well, the kids are going to play. They're giving you everything they got.

They're going to give you everything they got because it's an opportunity. The new guys coming in playing on D, they're not thinking about the end of the year. They're thinking about 20 games to impress the contracts and make sure that they're part of the plan moving forward. So all these guys that have been given an opportunity, they're not affected by the trade deadlines so much. I mean, they're affected if they've come in,

but they're not distracted by leaving. And they're not distracted by, oh, we might not make the playoffs. They're excited to play hockey. That's it. That's it. This is their chance to prove their NHLers, to prove, maybe earn more money,

whatever it might be. So it's, who knows? Miramatov is going to try to show, he's hardly played for three years. This guy should look like an uncaged animal. Hanley is finally going to be given an opportunity to have everyday minutes in the NHL.

This is a guy that's only had one or two year deals mostly in the HL since he became a pro. Like there's all kinds of motivation for these guys. Yeah. So we'll continue, but that's the opening statements for McLeod, law. If whatever it is,

good or bad, sometimes it's not always bad where you need legal. Maybe you're buying a house. Maybe I guess do you need one if you're getting married still? You'd have some kind of go to the justice of the peace or something. If you're getting unmarried,

It's nice of them. And it's a second round pick and a third round pick. Second next year. Second 2025. This year. Third this year. Yeah, and so the flames with one year left on his deal got a third plus Sharon Govich, who we just talked about might be a legit top three center on an HL team's eclipse grew highs

with the third who turned into SUNYev was playing at UMass, and they get a third in a second. A little less value, I'd argue, but it's maybe in the eye of the beholder. It is in the eye of the holder. What do you do with that second rounder? But now, Tafoli goes and joins Monaghan. They were former teammates, remember? Oh, yeah.

Former teammates on us. Dejaveu all over again. But Winnipeg making some moves. We know Colorado has been doing just about everything. They've been very active the last couple of days. There's a look at some of the stuff. Yeah, like you go through it. From Daily Faceoff.com.

You know, I really didn't hide it. He wasn't like tactical or sneaky. It wasn't a bit of a, like a sly dig. It was very on the nose. That's not Jack Edwards way. No, it really isn't. To be discreet. So there you see that's a Foley deal.

He goes to Winnipeg. Here's a Chad Rue. Rueedle deal. They're very upset in Pittsburgh. Gensily last night. Gennie Malkin came out. He said, we apologize to the fans. You pay money to come here and watch these games.

And we didn't hold up our end of the bargain. And if you're Kyle Dubus, you're probably like, geez, the GM didn't make a move to give confidence to the players. Well, through 60 games, what are the players showing you? They've shown you they're not good enough for the playoffs. sadly with all those stars it is dubus can look in the mirror and think to adding eric carlson and go that was just an absolute way yeah but they didn't give up anything off their roster right doesn't matter it takes away you can't tell me that letang wasn't sitting in that room going yeah they were married to that old core with no prospects either way so he's like eh we'll give it a try but it didn't work and i don't know that it was probably things prior to that where you did you need Jeff Carter

you go and that was the old GM and it no you didn't just over because it's not it didn't just happen this you could see this was years away yeah um so there's there's the deal gensel is gone he's a Carolina hurricane the penguin's got a bunch of stuff there four prospects three prospects two picks

and bunting who can be a shit disturber and placed around really good players can produce he saw that in Toronto I don't know that without them he does but uh There was a lot of pieces for a team that has bare cup. So I get that. Conditional first,

which is basically going to be a second. They have to win the cup. It's kind of what they get. So as these start to come in, so to Foley gets you a second and a third. You saw in there was a whole bunch of stuff, but it's a second round. Do we go back now and we wonder?

Because remember at the draft, we were talking about first rounders, and no one traded a first round pick last year. Yeah, not at the draft. 10 had moved prior, but once we got with the season, it ended no one moved another and as you sit here conroy got a first for lint home yep and a first in the hanifan hanifin deal yep and then what were the other first did in the walker deal was that a first

oh yeah and that was getting rid of ryan johansson's money was a big part of that it wasn't that sean walker was worth more than say a christana that's not the case yeah because the first doesn't go in in that trade with the oilers gave up a first to get a really good third line center and a banger that looks pretty pricey. I would have thought that different types of parts would have been, like if Gensel doesn't get a first, but Henrique and Carrick does, I just,

that feels like the Oilers got fleeced a bit. But maybe Bunting's a big piece of that because Pittsburgh wants to still say, hey, we got a roster player. They're not dead yet. Math doesn't like us, but we're not eliminated. I don't know.

The, the Oilers move, we're in Calgary, we don't give them a lot of love, but it just seems, we've said it all long. I don't think that they're, they continue to add depth that forward. And it's like, I don't see it.

I'm not in love with the Oilers, so I don't stare at their roster and envision it at night. But they need D. They need to stop scoring. They finally got a top pair. It's at Coleman Bouchard, and that's a really, really, really nice pair. One superb defender with an elite offensive defenseman,

nurses finally slot it properly on the second pair, but you got Cody Cici next to him, which should be a third pair player. And they added Stetcher who we like, but he's a 6-7. Like, are you, is he supplanting Kulak or Deharnay? He's a made. It's in, he's a third pair guy. Yeah.

And so, and that's exactly what Kenny Holland said. He was a 6-7. And that's great. But you don't have a top four. And this is what I'm getting to is that if you had Cici pushed to the third pair and you had a TANV come in, now that's a cup winning blue line. Because you've got Beckholm and TANF in your top two pairs. It doesn't it feel like if you had that first rounder,

a good defenseman was more than available? Yeah. And if you did want to go forward, like Gensel versus Henrique, come on now. It's like, what, six years younger and all the playoff experience? I'm not six. And I hear conflicting reports. So the Oilers, they were going to trade that first rounder in a TANET deal. With what? And then, yeah, exactly.

And what kind of bad money and with what? And then you get closer to it. It's teams, teams talked a lot about we would do a first. But when it came down to, okay, let's talk about this deal. Let's TANF for a first. What are we doing? Well, I mean, how about a second or a, when it came down. Take this bad money off our hands.

When it came down to it, the first rounders were, they evaporated in a hurry. They gave way John Marino, who was a nice player that they got for basically nothing. He was an oilers pick that didn't sign as a college-free agent.
