Starting point is 00:00:13 Hi, you guys. Welcome to the show here on a Wednesday. It is Barn Burner with Retro. He must be a game day. He's got his Backlin shirt back on. And a game day for Pinder is he's got his Blue Jays shirt back on. Yeah, we'll talk about the Jays later. We'll see how that went for you. But it's a game day as the flames are up in Edmonton today. Talks the lower. Be nice to everyone. That's how what it is? Sweatpants. It is sweatpants weather, in fairness. It's sweatpants and nice shoes. A guy who's from sweatpants and nice shoes.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Come on. The region is actually joining us. We're happy to have our next guest. We're going to join us throughout the entire hockey season. He is former flame coach and goaltending great Jamie McClannon. Noodles. How are we doing, buddy? I'm good.
Starting point is 00:01:05 So how did you guess what I was wearing? I mean, that is crazy. Shot in the dark. Yeah, just a shot in the dark. dark. I'll admit I am sitting in the parking lot of a casino, a long story that I won't get into, but I am not, I'm wearing shorts. It's like 30 degrees here. So it is. And I am sad because the Blue Jays were terrible. I'm not terrible. They weren't good enough. They were terrible. Okay, they've got to get their act together. So, and I am looking forward to Flames Oilers tonight. So there's
Starting point is 00:01:40 lots going around. And I did see, I may have had a little bit of insight to where that Flames Oiler outdoor game. I saw that Nickelback's playing a couple songs after the second period. I don't know if you guys saw that. I didn't see that. Yeah. October 29th at the outdoor game, your boys, Nickelback. It's tough to come up and comers get the spotlight. Yeah, that's right. To showcase their work. Because I always love to see that. Last time, Retro and I talked to you, you were actually heading out.
Starting point is 00:02:07 You had just gotten somewhere in, was it, New York or something, you were going to see them that night. How was that show? It was a very fun show, a very, very late night, barely made my flight the next morning. And I actually spoke with Chad this morning, actually. He was in Nebraska, so had a good chat with him. But honestly, it was a great time. And, you know, the concert's always good. They put on a very good show.
Starting point is 00:02:34 So it's a lot of fun to kind of visit. And, you know, they have to work a little bit and then they get to play afterwards. So it's good. So it was fun. Comparing a night out with Rett where it's probably some whiskey and maybe getting tossed out of some place and then some drive-through burgers or something. Wait. And compare that to partying with Nickelback rock stars.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Is it similar? Are there differences? Honest to God, there's not. I mean, and here's the funny part. So, you know, let's go back to 04.
Starting point is 00:03:09 This is when, you know, this is when we were kind of in our prime, we'll call it, of our, enjoying our lives on and off the field, on and off the ice. So that's what it was,
Starting point is 00:03:20 drinking little whiskey, late night food, you know, lots of laughs. And that is literally what it's like, you know, hanging out with Chad and is, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:31 lots of, some drinks. really good food and lots of laughs. And then there's, you know, depending on where we are, there's late night food. Like I, when I was in Alberta with them in June, it was, I think, Chinese food at like five o'clock in the morning or four o'clock in the morning. So it's, there's no difference. I think if you just enjoy yourself and you surround yourself with good people, guys like
Starting point is 00:03:54 Rhett, guys like, you know, Chad, there, it's the formula to having fun is the exact same. you i was going to say who's the common denominator always though maybe you're the key to success well i don't know about that i'm really i'm i'm i'm a good backup vocal singer put it that way i uh i hang in the if you guys are the lead i'm a really good support cast so that's uh i'm right i'm always i it's a joke but i'm not lying i am the forced gump of all of these things i'm always in the background of all of this nonsense so There it is. I'm Forrest.
Starting point is 00:04:32 So do you get to hang with them at the concerts backstage and things like that? Or is it more like, hey, I'll meet you at like 1 a.m. at this undisclosed restaurant in New York. No, I'll go out before the show. Like that particular one, the last time I did you guys, I went out that kind of before the show, saw them visit and, you know, they're busy. Like, you know, people forget, like, they're working. Like, there's meat and greets.
Starting point is 00:04:52 They've got to do prep and that. But, like, spend about an hour before the show with the guys. And then they've got to go do their warm up or do whatever their routine. to get ready. And then that particular night, we were side stage. And there was a group of us, you know, it's funny because you forget along the way, like, who's fans of the show, whose friends of the band and that, that particular night, David Bryan was there, who is Bon Jovi's keyboardist. And I've met David several times. And, you know, that's like, you want to talk about rock star as well. Like that guy, he told me that night, he goes,
Starting point is 00:05:28 they're going out in January, he thinks, on a tour, it'll be their 40th year as a band. And so it was pretty cool. And we were, like the night we were in New Jersey, obviously, he, he goes, I live 10 minutes from the day. Yeah, I bet. Yeah. So it was kind of neat. But it was neat. But yeah, we had a good time.
Starting point is 00:05:45 But yeah, I'd go side stage and, you know, watch them play. And then afterwards we go and hang out and they've got responsibilities again. But then you go out afterwards. We always joke about us. The fans, if you want to call it that, the people that listen to the show and come to events, just guys. It's a love having it. You're the nickelback roadie. You're the groupie, I mean.
Starting point is 00:06:06 They must be really pumped that you're the one. You're the hanger on that follows them around. Big ugly mess. Yes. That's a, I am. I joke. I'm their mascot. You know, the big head and float around.
Starting point is 00:06:18 But yeah, I don't know. I just enjoy, like I say, the people in the band, regardless, you know, I'll be friends with them if they ever decide to pack it up even. You know, it's just, we've been friends for a long time and got a lot of respect for their, you know, their work ethic and what they've been able to achieve over, you know, 20 plus years now. It's pretty impressive. Well, I don't want to get too hockey heavy. It's your first visit with you. We're going to get you on every week. Looking forward to it. And thanks for doing that, by the way. It's a game day here. They're taking a, it's a younger roster that's heading up to Edmonton tonight as it is. There are three goalies here. You have Jacob Markstrom. You have Dan Vladar and then you have David, David Wolfe. Dustin. Having three goalies, how big of an issue? Do you carry three goalies?
Starting point is 00:07:05 Do you just send the one guy back to junior, or back to the A, even though he's ready for the NHL? Is it as awkward and messy a potential situation, or can three guys coexist even for a little while to start a year? You can coexist. I went on a rant the other night. We were in Halifax calling a game, and afterwards we were talking about goaltending situations.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And I particularly brought up, you know, Alberta's goaltending. You look at, you know, Campbell and Skinner, and then you look at what's going to go on in Calgary. And for me, I went through, like, the stats over the last couple years. And it was two years ago there was 119 goaltenders used in the league. So there's only 32 teams. There should be, you know, by on paper, it's 64 goalies. Ottawa used seven goaltenders last year.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Toronto Maple Leafs used six. I went through with the analytics. Like Calgary, sorry, Edmonton used two. There was only six or seven teams that used two goaltenders. Everyone else used three, four, five, six, or seven. So my whole argument is everyone what points to the cap and roster spots. I think it's absolutely embarrassing having an ebug go in and play in the league.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Like that's, you know, that would be like tonight you're watching the Blue Jays play and they run out of pitcher. so you're waving a guy from the stands. Kyle from Kinkos is going to go and throw it on the mound and see how that unfolds. Like that's always bothered me. And I know that's not a popular opinion in the goaltending community because people always celebrate, oh, the eBug, it's a really cool story. And it's usually a kid from the local university.
Starting point is 00:08:47 And I'm not trying to, you know, crap on them. You know, the Scott Fosters and the David Ayers and guys like that that got opportunities. but I think especially if you're looking at like the Calgary Flames, what did they miss the playoffs last year by? Three points. Two points. Okay. So you imagine if they, you know, in a huge battle,
Starting point is 00:09:08 all of a sudden they had to have an eBug play or a team that they're fighting with and that team gets to play against the eBug and rinses it. Like I just, it bothers me. So my rant is I've always believed a third goaltender should be on the roster that doesn't count against the cap. And that way, because starting goaltenders nowadays, you see a lot of times a starter will go work with the goalie coach for 20 minutes and then he gets off the ice.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I was going to ask that. There's got to be a rest. Compared to when we played, rest is now actually considered and calculated and used. And in a situation where you only have two goaltenders and a guy that's playing 60, 65 games in a year. For him to get rest and be available for practice, it doesn't add up. The scales don't work.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Well, you see, there's about eight teams that have 60 game guys nowadays, Calgary, including one with Markstrom. I think Demko's one, Vasilevsky, outside the back injury, would have been one, Hellebuck. But outside that, it's mostly tandem situations. So a lot of times the starting goaltender, his whole focus that day is just get out, get the work he needs for that night,
Starting point is 00:10:27 and get off the ice. So even if he comes on, he's on for what, 18 minutes. And if you want to have a 35 minute practice that morning, a third goalie or the trainer, or you have to adjust practice, right? Well, that's just it.
Starting point is 00:10:40 They'll bring in some kid. They'll have, again, some hack. So my philosophy with this, and I think somewhere there might be a happy medium is it's not about the rich teams having three goaltenders and your third goalie makes 2.8. It's having somebody who's capable of being an NHL goaltender that wouldn't embarrass himself and maybe they make a maximum a cap of 700 or 500, but they're your third
Starting point is 00:11:10 goaltender that you bring on practices, you bring on the road, you bring everything, you're responsible for having a goaltender. and then, you know, that person plays whatever you see fit. And that's the way I've always envisioned it is the team should have three goalies. So let's get back to Calgary. You're right, Boomer. Dustin Wolf's too good for the HL. He's been the best goaltender the last two years there.
Starting point is 00:11:39 And he won. I think he won league MVP. So, you know, he's ready to play. they do have the luxury of not having to wave him to get him down, but then is that going to stunt his growth a little bit? Like, I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, if you carry three and you got Wolf down to the Wranglers to play a few games here or there.
Starting point is 00:12:00 But like, he's too good. I think he's going to be a really, really good goaltender. He reminds me a lot of UC Soros in Nashville, the way he plays, how his mechanics are, how good he is in the net. So that kind of leaves like, is there a marketplace place for Vladar. Because if Markstrom's your guy, a veteran guy who I think's going to have a bounce back year, and then you bring Wolf along, maybe that makes Vlodar expendable,
Starting point is 00:12:27 which there are teams that are looking for goaltenders. But the challenge is, you know, Connie's not just going to give them away for free. And then who would be your number three? Because I'm going back to the scenario where every team is basically using three goaltenders or more every year. So that's kind of my long round. on this is I think there should be three on every team, but they only have two. I think at some point, if everybody's healthy and you're happy, Vladar might have a marketplace to get moved.
Starting point is 00:12:57 The challenge is that this league is so hell-bent on the hard cap with zero exceptions that everyone's capped out and they're not using it on a third goalie. And Gary's never saying yes to, oh, what about a veteran exemption? What about a third goalie? What about an extra couple million? No, everything's hard no. Yeah, I get it. It's tough, right?
Starting point is 00:13:13 It's so frustrating though because, you know, there is a time, like I said, like it was, I was in Toronto. I wasn't at the building that night, but the night that David Ayers came in, that was a lose-lose situation for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Because I remember, you know, the two injuries, Ayers comes in and the look on Rod Brindamor's face. Like they're trying to win the division. They're battling. And here comes a Zamboni driver from the Mastercard Center who actually is the practice. goalie for the Toronto Maple Leafs. And he's going to come out and they're all tapping him on the pads and it's like,
Starting point is 00:13:49 oh my God, like this is amateur hour. And again, this isn't a slight on David Ayers. It's more, it's a bad look on the league. And then Ayers ends up, you know, Carolina put an absolute defensive clinic on where, you know, Pierre Engball scores right away and basically rides a stick down the, down the ice like Tiger Williams, thinking that he's, you know, scoring. a cup winner. He beat the Zamboni driver. And then the Zamboney driver locks it down. And honestly, like, it was bad. And now it's a bad look on the Leafs. They lose to a Zambooney driver type of
Starting point is 00:14:25 thing. So I just, that was a lose-lose situation for both sides. And I never want to see that happen again in the era where, like I said, I called the game the other night. Pittsburgh Penguins missed the playoffs by one point. Can you imagine if that was, you know, because of an ebug goaltender, of a situation, an injury like that. I just, again, maybe it's, it's not that big of a topic of the board of governors and GM meetings, but I think at some point there should be, to your point, like an exemption put in there
Starting point is 00:14:56 where we can just have NHL players play NHL games. So back to Wolf. How do you see the shaking out? I think early on they have the luxury of putting him, you know, with the Wranglers just because he doesn't require waivers. And then you find a marketplace for Lidar. But I just, I also go back to, you do have time as well because if your schedule's decent, usually it's starter starts like, you know, seven of the first nine type of thing.
Starting point is 00:15:24 And I'm expecting a big bounce back season from Markstrom. So really, you're just dealing with that backup position going, okay, who's going to play? Like, I don't see this as a 50, 50 games, whether it's Vladar and Markstrom or if it's Wolf and Markstrom. I think it's Markstrom's net. And when he needs a night or two off or, you know, scheduled back to back. Max, that's when you go with Wolf and our Vladar. Don't want to always just talk to what goalies with you.
Starting point is 00:15:48 It's just kind of the way it ended up here today. Sure. This is heading into year four now of Jacob Markstrom in Calgary. And I was curious, your thoughts, I guess just on the probability or likelihood of a bounceback, what possibly could have happened because two years ago, it's a 922 save percentage. Vesna finalist in last year, 892, just right off the cliff. And obviously there's a lot that goes into it. but I guess just from one year to the next and your thoughts on just Markstrom, the NHL
Starting point is 00:16:15 goaltender where he sits. I think he's a really talented goaltender. If you look at the history of even his, just the numbers, not even just going through the numbers. You've seen good season, bad season, you know, good season, like consistently inconsistent, if that makes sense. So if you're going by the numbers, and you can throw Connor Hellebuck in there as well, too. Like there's been some goaltenders where it's like you look at, okay, off year, great year,
Starting point is 00:16:45 great year, off year. Like they kind of alternate. And I think, you know, last year, just watching Markstrom's game. And it might have started, you know, against, I mean, I know people will circle that, the playoff series against Abington, where it just fell off a clip for him and he just didn't recover. And, you know, and actually, the flames had a really good start. I want to say it was 3.0 and 1 or something last. season.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Yeah. And then McDavid scores from the parking lot on the wall on in the second period of that game, which was just a, you know, a bad seeing eye. Good for McDavid, but like it was a bad goal on Markstrom. And you could, it was like a balloon. It just deflated. And, you know, that was kind of a microcosm of his whole season for Markstrom was he was, he's a big goaltender, six foot six and when he does not playing well he looks small in the net he looks busy he's trying too hard i know he's competitive he works his ass off but what happens is sometimes working harder is counterproductive for a goaltender because you're you can't like ret when you play you could hit harder you could skate harder you could shoot harder you could do all these things harder
Starting point is 00:17:59 when you dug in as a goal you can't dig in if you dig in it's counterproductive like i it's almost you're stiffer and you want to chase the puck and you're, I'm going to work so hard in the net, you end up opening up holes and you end up over pushing. There were times where I was watching Markstrom and he'd push from right to left and he'd go flying almost 10 feet out of his net because he's so strong and so into it. So less is more sometimes. So I think Jason LaBarbera work with him. I think they've got a great relationship. If you take a look at, you know, what Markstrom's capable of when he's at the top of his game. It's just using his side. and his skill because he has a lot of skill in the net.
Starting point is 00:18:38 So that's what I'm looking forward to this year is if it's going to be a bounce back year, I'll be able to watch just as a fan and from the outside watching. You'll be able to tell if he's on his game by the lack of motion that he has. You know, it's kind of like it's almost less is more in the net type of thing, just using his size. So that'll be interesting to track early on. Do they still sell beer in Halifax? They did when I was there.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Yeah. It's been a while now. Yeah, there was, I mean, you know, there were people that were well served and maybe slightly over served at the game and enjoyed themselves. I did not. I was all business the other night, which was a very proud. I had an early flight out yesterday morning, too. So that factored into my decision making, which probably 10, 12, 15 years ago, it wouldn't
Starting point is 00:19:30 have mattered what time the flight was. Whereas the older I get the, I'm starting to plan. the hangover plan how things look and then I start to weigh okay is it worth it is it not and that particular night it was not worth it so I just had a bite to eat and we all had one beer and then some people had it headed out and I went to my room like a responsible adult how do you have to a lot more time for that hangover now is it I I don't know I've always had this weird I shouldn't admit this like I didn't get hung over I get tired. Yeah, I'm tired. But like, you know, you're up till six. You practice at nine or ten or whatever you're doing. And then like you're fine. I need a nap. But like the, I almost had like a built-in hangover solution. I don't know what it was. Like I go to Vegas, you get those. I don't know if you ever seen or had it in Vegas that hangover heaven. You get the IV. So I would have them ordered to my room for 11 a.m. after the night out. And then you get an IV and you're right back at it.
Starting point is 00:20:35 So, you know, I don't, no IVs in my near future, put it that way. Well, not until Mika retirement night, March 2nd. We need you out here for that. Let's go. Well, I will be out there. So I might have to have some sort of medical. Just be a line of gurneys laid. I'll have a medical staff on hand there.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Yes. I will have to figure that one out. And now, as you guys know, we all talk for a living. That's the worst part is if I stay up all night and you're laughing. and yucking it up and drinking. My voice, like you sound like you crawled out of a dumpster. So it's,
Starting point is 00:21:12 that's the hardest part is, you know, I've had, I'm supposed to go to, I was supposed to go to Vegas this weekend for, um, the Raiders and Green Bay playing. And I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:21:25 I don't think I'm going to go. And the guys on the show are like, you can't be on the show the next day because you'll have no voice. I'm like, no, I'll have a voice. And then how I think about it is, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:35 after a late night out, your voice is a lot rougher on air. Yeah, we work with the guy like that too. There's a guy in the top left corner there who goes out, puts it right to the floor and then comes to work the next day. It sounds like he's been gargling razor blades. I was also well-behaved yesterday, gentlemen. We can set me over under later on beers, but I'm telling you, I'm going to stun you all. Wasn't it Peter Marr? Vinegar.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Don't you have to drink vinegar or something? You got to gargle some. That was Peter Marr's. magic solution was a little bit of vinegar. I don't know if you drink it or gargle it or what you do with it. I don't know. You put it up your nostrils to wake you up. I don't know what you do. Like I've never heard of vinegar. Oh, that would be tough. I just like I say, I feel like that the older I get, I try and find remedies. And if it's not worth it, then I'm like, okay, I can't do it. Can't do it tonight because I've got this and that. It's a responsible Jamie, which I don't think you guys have seen before in your lifetime.
Starting point is 00:22:35 It's disappointing. Well, we appreciate this. Before, casino, does there anything you want to share there? You're outside of casino. It seems kind of random. It's not shady. It's a business meeting. It's nothing shady.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I'm not, I'm literally not, I don't have a bag of coins and I'm going in. Yeah, I need to go sit down at a table and go over some things. I just watched the movie casino. That kind of business you're doing? What's happening?
Starting point is 00:23:00 No, no, I'm not meeting with, what's that Saul Rosteen or whatever? his name is Sam. Sam Rossi. I'm sleeping Sam Rothstein. Yeah, no, no. It's just a business meeting and drove up here for that.
Starting point is 00:23:15 But it was kind of funny because I'm like, I got to do this interview. Yeah, I'm in the parking lot of a casino. And there's no like, no getting around it. Like I walk in there, I'm at the casino. But yeah, it's not for entertainment-wise, put it that way. Beautiful. Thank you, James. We'll talk to you next week.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Good luck. Split the 8th. Double down, split the eights. You know how that works. I'll keep that in the back of my mind as I'm yelling and screaming at the tables. Beautiful. All right. Next, Nudels. See you.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Take care, guys. We'll see you. There is. Former Flame goalie and goalie coach, sister coach, Jay McClend, going to join us throughout the entire hockey season here on a barber. Doesn't get hungover? McKee was like that. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:23:59 Yeah, there was a, it's rare, but there was the odd guy that, exactly that, where it's like, yeah, I don't. I'm tired, but I'm not fatigued. That's it. I'm like, are you kidding me? Oh, I know. Dying. You had that new regime in Mexico, Dino.
Starting point is 00:24:17 It was all the ice in the world, vodka, and then just some soda water. Yeah, I was just making sure you had hydrate. Yeah. There's just smarter ways to get hammered. That's all I'm saying. You don't want to drink two liters of soda. Shot the sourmos. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:33 No. Sourmos. Sauerbuss. Is fire, so it's the sourpuss, the fireball, has something replaced fireball or is in the pink Whitney, I guess is then?
Starting point is 00:24:43 Baja Rosa was a little back. Yeah. Oh, that was one too. Stupid. Doing shots or shooters as we would have called it back in the day. So, I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:57 Flames Oilers tonight, 7 o'clock. You can watch it on the Flames website. Two games remain. They made some cuts yesterday. Not great news for Benny Dimes, Ryan. It was coming because he was on waivers the day before, but I still think we'll see Benny Dimes at some point.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Oh, Benny Dimes. I think he's their fifth center. That's kind of how I view him in the org. 35 remain. They got 21 forward still kicking around, 11D3. It looks like a lot of people. It does, doesn't it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Well, and a pike bomb, pike bomb, chatting with Ryan, because of what they need to do with the cap, if you have some assurances on LTIR with Oliver Schia, with Oliver Shillington and we already do on on Pellche. Like you need, what is it, 10 games or 24 days at a minimum to use LTIR. Otherwise it's just IR, sorry, you get no cap relief. You're going to get that with Peltier.
Starting point is 00:25:46 If you give that to Shillington, what they may do is they might actually have Hanzek make this team just to put them right to the cap so that LTIR window opens up above that. You don't want to waste cap space and then go into LTIR. You want to get right up to the top of the cap. So there's a chance that Hansick makes this team and doesn't play and then get sent to junior. I don't know that we're really going to see the best 23 guys when this has done so much is there's a lot of cap gymnastics.
Starting point is 00:26:09 That's this is not our top. This is not our top. It's just I don't want people to be like, oh my God, the first rounder made the team. Oh my God. No, he's not making the team. Haven't heard enough about him. Yeah. And he's like, look, he's been one year of junior.
Starting point is 00:26:24 I did grab a shot of it there. Flamesnation.com. Go to the website today. You talked about the Pike bomb, Ryan Pike putting in the work there. Talking about obviously the game coming up tonight. And I think he does actually get, I think that's one of the top stories on the website today is just about can the Calgary Flames fill out a roster
Starting point is 00:26:41 without using long-term injury cap relief. So for guys like Rhett and I, you can look at it and see it and. Yeah. The written word and try and absorb it that way. The challenge is like, none of this is exciting. But if you want to try to forecast roster moves,
Starting point is 00:26:55 you kind of have to understand it. Otherwise, it's like, why is this happening? Why is that? Well, it's because they got to do cap genastics because of Gary's stupid cap. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So there we go. That's what's on that and more, obviously, today at flames nation. Dot, CA.
Starting point is 00:27:09 On the line up tonight, right? Oh, sorry. Go ahead. What? I was just saying line up tonight, like you said it was young. You want to know the guys that actually have jobs that are going to Eminton? Sure. Dylan Duby, Igor, Sheringovich, Walker Doer.
Starting point is 00:27:20 They all make the team. And Austerli, I think,'s done enough that he's your six, Zadorov as well. That's five skaters that we know have jobs. The rest is bubble or have some fun before you. You're gone. Are the Oilers putting out their best? McDavid's on the ice. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Oh. Yeah, you're going to get to see it. That's a sacrifice. You've sacrificed some people. The, uh, we have some good news and some bad news for you, gentlemen. Yeah. You're getting into the game. We're very close to final cuts and you get a chance.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Solo, you're on the second to last preseason. You get to play. The bad news, 97's coming out of you. And you're not touching the puck. Yeah. Yeah, you'll know which one he is very, very quickly. Have you seen the flash? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:07 So, yeah, that's, I mean, that's a scoop. And then was Friday. The goalies, Vladar is going to start. Thank you. Yeah, I was going to ask which, which goalies were going to go. And then one more against the, what, the Canucks. And then wrap it up. And I think you'll probably see the real roster Friday.
Starting point is 00:28:25 But they don't want to send vets for two road day trips. That's why you saw the vet. You're not going to get it. Any satisfaction. seeing your best no remember wasn't that last year that you're not putting Markstrom in you don't get to see Markstrom no way you saw him turned out flames fans are the ones that didn't want to see Markstrom well I love McLennan I don't know if you guys remember but about game five or six there was this shot by yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:28:51 yeah PTSD over here noodles yeah we just play the puck off the glass misses it so yeah two more preseason games for the team and then they will get things rolling next week. We will also get it rolling at Greta Wednesday, October 11th. That is coming up in a week from now. Get those tickets. You can buy them at Nationgear.ca. We're going to be at Greta on Wednesday night watching the game, playing some games, having a hell of a time. There is some money for charity? Yeah, kids sport. Why wouldn't you? And there's a chance, five chances to win two spots to the nation outdoor hockey experience, October 29th. And then you see there's additional raffle entries and swag bag, $30 game card.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Details and to buy the tickets at nationgear.ca. Details, greta bar.com slash events. They got some drink specials. They got some food specials. I believe they're firing out pocket dogs, it said on the website. Yes. Very nice. I don't know if you men saw this last night, but.
Starting point is 00:30:00 I did. We talked about it yesterday, did we not? Talked about it all last season, I feel like, too. Yesterday, you posted during the Pinder Report a lineup, kind of random and weird, a roster, a starting roster for the Washington Capitals going into their game last night against Boston. That would be a good game, whatever. Do you notice anything?
Starting point is 00:30:22 You asked me, I said, oh, there's, on that top line, it was Baxter, which is normal, Alexander Oveskin, again, normal. And Matthew Phillips, the Calgary kid, the former buff and Victoria Royal and stocking heat and all, you know, we know a lot about Matthew Phillips. There were a lot of people that really wanted to see him get into a game or get more, just more of an opportunity here. It never happened. Offseason comes, he's a free agent, signs with the Washington Capitals. Not a huge deal. Kind of a league bin is one way, though, and he's making some decent money.
Starting point is 00:30:58 going to go to Washington. Last night got on to the top line. And so are you going to notice, are you even going to notice them? Can you keep up? He'll be on waivers in a month. The best players of the world. Let's take a peek.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Phillips. Phillips stands tall. The smallest player on the ice tonight. Wins it for Washington. Does all Washington in a nation? This is on Daryl. Sorry, guys. Everyone else in the entire city wanted him to play more than two games last year.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Everyone. Assistant coaches, general manager, assistant GMs, player development people, Stockton coaches, Calgary coaches, Heat coaches, Wrangler's coaches, Victoria coaches. Only one guy didn't want to play this guy last year. It's a shame. I told he's got a bad attitude. He's got a shitty out. Yeah, I was going to play the post game.
Starting point is 00:32:12 It was just, oh, shucks, you know, I'm just so happy to get a shot here. It just feels so great. It's a new team and new tech. Yeah, you're just real, real jerk this guy. Shit! Was it, what? Wait, wait, stop. That's one player.
Starting point is 00:32:27 I know. But was it good? I didn't watch the game. Somebody just wrote that he was good. And there was some of it. Well, yeah, he's coming down on Pastor Nack. He's not a defenseman. I was still a rister from distance that beat an
Starting point is 00:32:40 NHL goaltender. I don't know if it's necessarily the pastor that critique on that play. I know what's he's not very good. What's he, what's he making 900? It's about is he an NHL or. It's not about as he a 30 goal guy. And you know what? 30 goal guy to be,
Starting point is 00:32:55 and 20 goal guy to be an NHLer. Put yourself in his skin. Good on you. Stick it right up there, shitter. That's what I said yesterday. Yeah. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Whether it's whoever it is, you just look at the logo, it's the flag. claims. I gave you a lot of good years. Well played by Conroy. He's letting him go to eat wet with Washington, learn how to play at an elite level, and then bring him back. Bring him home. Less than 800 grand he makes.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Fuck. There's lots of guys making $750,800. Not many playing with Ovecquen and Baxteram, though. We'll see what happens. I'm happy for the kid more than anything, right? I mean, you can't go back in time. he got screwed here. We all knew he got screwed.
Starting point is 00:33:42 We all said he got screwed. We all wanted to see him. And he's not getting screwed there. Didn't bitch and moan. No. I think that's my thing with Phillips the whole time was that everyone, everyone from his coach at 10 years old said what a great kiddie is. Well, and you know what, Rhett?
Starting point is 00:34:02 And I mean, to your point, it wasn't a, this guy's going to be a star. Give him. chance let him play some games was all anyone wanted it wasn't a you have a budding superstar you're keeping this kid down there was never that it was just he's he's played really well at every level and had to overcome so much you know yeah maybe size isn't as big it's certainly been held against him and he's had to overcome it overcome it work his ass off work his ass off work his ass off again and then work his ass off some more and have a good attitude about it but
Starting point is 00:34:39 we couldn't get him in. Well, let's be honest. If he's 6-1, Daryl's bringing him up and playing him a shit ton. At that age, it's not like he's 19 guys. Like, I'm sorry. The bias Daryl had was size. Good for you. You've got a 6-vote one guy leading the American League in scoring.
Starting point is 00:34:53 You're not going to call him up? Any word on how Yuso Valamaki's camp is going down in the desert? Oh, what, he finished a half point per game in Arizona last year? Yeah. Wow, we got that, uh, that kit from college. It's fine. Connor Mackey? No, they lost him to, too.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Yeah. He's gone too, yeah. Oh, Pullman? Wasn't there a poolman? Poolman's gone? Yeah, those are all real names of real people. And he's probably in the Hall of Famer. It's just like last year or something was crazy.
Starting point is 00:35:28 That's all. Simone was. Nicky. Yeah, well. Yeah. Oh, well. You want to do, you know what? Let's do this.
Starting point is 00:35:38 You set this to me, Pender. I had, you know what? I had it in my notes and then I kind of forgot about it. so it's a good thing you brought it up. This day in flames history. This was an exciting day. I mean, you would talk about time machine going back in time.
Starting point is 00:35:49 We were pumped on this date. For McLeod law, let me find it here. I want to get the exact, I won't have the exact info when I get into this. Like the exact date? Because it's this date. So what days is today?
Starting point is 00:36:03 Well, it's 2017. 2017 on this day. But for McLeod law, they are out. You know what? There are friends. They're your friends. They should be your only.
Starting point is 00:36:15 They're the solution to any of you. You get yourself into a little bit of a pickle, any kind of a legal situation. It's McLeod law. They have a vast. What is it you need? We'll send you here, send you there. They have experts and the very best in the business, regardless of what your needs are. Personal injury, they can take that stress off, your shoulders, you're not alone, let them handle.
Starting point is 00:36:35 You're legal, your insurance, your medical claims. You focus on recovery. They take care of the rest. Peter Klein, at the head of the. that list and at the head of the line helping you out, he's your one call. McLeod-dashlaw.com. 2017, on this date, we were very excited. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:56 As the Calgary Flames signed a somewhat unknown, unrestricted free agent. Oh, named Yarmory Yager. Yarmory Yager. And we had to say, you know, just get me sure. Just bring him in. Just try, what's the, where's the harm? What's the possible, how could it possibly go wrong? What's the worst case scenario?
Starting point is 00:37:19 What's the worst case? You bring him in, you give him a shot, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. What's, what's the, the worst that could happen? Well, sit-ups are free. Is that what it was? He was not in very good shape. His groin was bugging him. Not in good shape.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Wasn't 100% and it didn't last long. The boy, we were excited, weren't we? Everyone had a Jagger jersey. It's awesome. Yager's in the closets. Scored one goal. As I recall, let's take a Peksy at the Yager.
Starting point is 00:37:52 This is the Yager highlight as a Calgary flame. Brett Kulak there to clean up. And he finds Goudreau. Two on one with Yager. Goodroo with Yonar. Gidroo Yon. His first is a Calgary play. Restores a three-go lead.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Composure in their own zone. That's the key to this goal by Yager. And it's Brent Kulak. Grace under fire. It was cool to see, you know. It was fun. He finished the season with the best plus minus on the whole team because he left around what, the Christmas time,
Starting point is 00:38:40 and they had a shitty spring. So if you sort by plus minus, which we understand is not perfect. Yags leading the team that year. Boy, Yags, contributing. I thought he was around a half point. I thought he was fine. It's just he was hurt.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Like if he was healthy, that would have worked great. And is still playing. Yes. And the team he owns in Czech Republic. See, I should have bought a team. I don't know how much money he's making. I think he's playing to keep it afloat. That's what I understand is.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Yeah, this is not a moneymaker. This is not a printing press. This is a, I guess I'll play another year. So we can. Yager, do you know what the ticket sales are like when you're not playing? And I think it's a, I don't want to do anything else. why wouldn't I keep playing? I'm not dead yet.
Starting point is 00:39:27 I hope that's what it is, but it's sounding like that's not exactly it. He doesn't seem like a guy, it seems like life's kind of, it's been fun. There's been some good times along the way. I remember as a rookie going into Pittsburgh and him and Lemieux and Francis
Starting point is 00:39:42 and all, I mean, it was a laundry list of Hall of Famer. They're pissing around on the ice, morning skates, going out. there, no helmets, no gear.
Starting point is 00:39:56 They loved playing. They had fun. And then it was all, then we went on the ice and it was. Yeah. All serious and breakouts and this and I was like, oh, God. It would be fun if you had, you know, like three of the best 10 players in the league, wouldn't it? In the world at the time.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Yeah. The world. Yeah. And you'd already had a couple rings like. Yeah. Two rings in the last five years. Yeah. That would be fun.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Yeah. Yeah. You're not stressed out about tonight's. Panthers match up. We're good. I got the PJ Ford. We're going to Atlantic City right after the game.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Ford Murphy coming to town. You're not a little worried about that. Jarmer? Come on. Hey, Johann Garpinav is just down this hallway. You guys better get your shit together. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:40:45 all yogs. Sign with the waves on this date back in 2017. My God. He's playing again this year for a cladno. Shouldn't have been. Last year, 14 points and 26 games. Why didn't they wait so effing long to bring them? Like, why?
Starting point is 00:41:00 Because clearly training camp would have helped him out. I think he was trying to get back to a spot where he could get on the ace. It sounded like he was rehabbing all summer too. Like he was not a model of health, if I remember this correctly. No, well, he wasn't. And the thing is, we had been banging the drum for a while. Like, what's the worst thing they could have? A model of health is, but he's still healthier than the three of us at any time.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Right? Yeah. like yeah and like you could see he wasn't moving with ease and he was still a half point per game guy like it was like crazy you can do your 45 minute massage and go drink and your electrical stem suit you're never we've never been as good as shape as yager is right now yeah no yeah how old is he right now 51 i'm just trying to pull it up yeah 51 wild 17 would that be six seven years ago so he would have been 45 i thought yeah wow I'm doing. Lots of tread left on those tires.
Starting point is 00:42:00 But cloud law, Calgarypersonaljury.orgia is the one website for the personal injury stuff. Peter Klein, there he is, looking sharp. He's in great shape. Peter Klein, he's climbing Everest and stuff. I'm sure he's doing it. Yeah, right?
Starting point is 00:42:15 Yeah. We saw him not that long ago. Guy looked like just lean. Good shape. Fit. Frank said I looked lean. So I got cocky. I went and stepped on a scale.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Yeah. The black shirt did look good on you. The backland looks a little. What are you saying? It's white. It's just the color. It's a shade. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Dean looks really good today. Look, black. Yeah, that's right. McLeodlaw, McLeod-dashlaw.com. We'll do the Pinder report. Do you bring up any baseball in the Pinder report? Got some baseball.
Starting point is 00:42:50 I got three items. Yeah. Why is there no, Xing last night and some video and stuff. X. That's not Twitter. Twitter. Twitter.
Starting point is 00:43:02 I had a busy day. I told you. I had to buy flowers. A coaching seminar. It was, uh, it was not the runaway. I'll bet you're real impressive at the coaching seminar, real addition.
Starting point is 00:43:12 I was fine. What are you going to a coaching seminar? What is? What are you? Are you, what? High hopes of climbing the ranks? No. The association has got, uh,
Starting point is 00:43:23 coaching coordinator and they're they want lots of coaches to come out and get some tidbits is brad moran and former hitman had what like nearly 20 years pro and he's in the rafters in me yeah exactly and so he's running through like okay here's some basic stuff for you seven for you nine that you want to try to incorporate into your practices shit little things look at all his hand position all the flots here skates go online and go yeah but when you when it's a guy in the on the rink this is a horse shit oh i bet it was wicked i'm pissed off it wasn't there Look at old toll Blake over here. All time walking.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Everyone's all keen. The new coaching staff, the new manager, it's like, all right, I'll fucking go. It's pipe down. There you go. It's all right. We've got to mix that into a few drills. I mean, if you're coaching tier one like you are, you have better be done. Assistant coach, very, very, very labor intensive.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Yeah. Again, just such an amazing coincidence. Incredible feed for eight-year-olds, yeah. Sure is. Oh, tree. Oh, tree. You're in Toronto now. You can't be tossed out.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Careful, bud. There's not in the burner. Use your burner. Those who aren't watching online, Brad for Living has texted in and said, Jay's suck. Well, Daryl was in yesterday. He must be offended by the Phillips comments because he hasn't come back today,
Starting point is 00:44:41 but trees in today. Aren't they part of the payroll? Like, isn't it? MLSC? Like that's a guy. Kind of. Jays are not MLSC, but they are Rogers. Yeah, Rogers.
Starting point is 00:44:50 It feels like he's similar. Rappers, I guess. Part of the community. in the very least. Not the way to endear yourself to your new town by re- not be wrong though. You know,
Starting point is 00:44:59 spit in truth sometimes is not popular but buys you some credibility down the road. Well, we had this with Nickelback coming up and we were going to throw this up. I don't know if you've got it there, Jack,
Starting point is 00:45:11 but I wasn't sure if Noodles was going to be able to see it. But of course, one of the memes you always have is from the Nickelback song photograph and people will then take when he's holding up the photo, they'll take some,
Starting point is 00:45:23 some picture and put it in there. Somebody had crafted one. Yeah. Backeback's in the news today. Nickelbacks in the news today. And of course, uh, Ryan was watching his blue jays yesterday.
Starting point is 00:45:36 And I, I believe they, they lost. It did lose. Yeah. Look at this photograph. Every time I do it makes me laugh. Every time I do it makes me laugh.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Is this in your folder boomer? I just, I just sent it to you. Okay. I thought I had thrown in the in the folder there, but somebody, it quick work. That's the thing I like about the internet
Starting point is 00:45:55 and about the people out there is good imaginations. I did go on the X last night. I just posted the sad pender face down on the bar. Mischette. Come on now. We need to label these things.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Sleepy Bichette. That's what it was. There is. Photograph. Every time I do. Yeah. I have a little dare to be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:24 That kind of captures the spirit of it. We'll get into it. The Pinda Report is brought to you by Village Honda. It's such a good picture. That's a really nice work there. Huge selection of used vehicles at Village Honda. Everybody wants used, they got them. All makes all models, all budgets, over 70 units on site access to more than 400 more through the dealer group.
Starting point is 00:46:50 Make Village Honda your one-stop automotive destination in Calgary. They are worth the trip. They are online. and they bring you the Pender Report. Fellas, game day. Let's start there for the Calgary Flames. We have a lineup. We have a starter.
Starting point is 00:47:02 Let's go to the forward group as the Calgary Flames are up in Edmonton. Not a lot of sure things here and a whole lot of bubble guys. Dryden Hunt, you make this team? Been pretty good. Been around it. Bad turnover the other night.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Feels like a guy that could fit in on a fourth line in a limited role. I would like to have heard Hansik's name more. Well, yeah. And again, I think he might be. might be hanging around longer than he normally would have. We'll see. Not what I mean. And yeah, by the all means, do some things tonight.
Starting point is 00:47:31 Then make us talk about you. That'd be lovely. Klapka's in the mix. Conor Zari as well. Rizitschka. Rosie. All right. Go on, Rose. Here.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Another chance to impress. Pospacil, Pedersen, a few others in there as well. But in terms of sure things, really, it's Dubay-Sherengovych, Doer. Everyone else is praying they could get job 12 or 13 for the forward group. Defense looked like this, just two regulars. Zodoro. and Austerly. That'll be your third pair this year, I imagine.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Who's going to get to the seventh team, man? Is it solo or is it Buffalo's own Denny Gilbert, retro? The tough guy, fighting anyone, anytime, any place. He's a real pugilist to that boy. Yeah. He got a new golf membership here in Buffalo, so he's... That's your insight. Denny Gilbert.
Starting point is 00:48:18 Mm-hmm. My insight is... That's a shitty feeling sitting. in that fricking room in Edmonton tonight looking around going, we're about to get our asses handed to us. And we're going to be judged by our guys on how we perform.
Starting point is 00:48:35 I won't touch the puck and we're going to get stomped on yet I better play well. Go get them. Do you guys want to do a split squad or something? Do it an inter squad or maybe that'd be a better idea. Shuffle it up after a period? And then Zedorov
Starting point is 00:48:52 and whoever else do and then they'll be the leaders and have trying to, you know, we gotta play hard and we gotta go. Zedorov will be dropping the gloves get me out of here. What do I need to do to get tossed out of this thing? We know Gilbert could get out of there real quick if you want to.
Starting point is 00:49:10 That guy will fight anyone. It will be Vladar starting in net. Don't know if we're going to see a split or not, but you'd expect Jacob Markstrom's going to get your final preseason tune up in Vancouver against his old foes on Friday. So have we seen the last of preseason Dustin Wolf?
Starting point is 00:49:26 or will that be tonight? Hmm. It does feel like he's going down and Lidar's going to start the season's backup though. It does. And that's fine, short term, right? It sucks for him because you know he wants to be an NHLer,
Starting point is 00:49:42 but I think he also has to realize it's common. It's just unfortunate. This is, it's waivers, it's what we have to do. Charters, five-star hotels and get injured. Fame.
Starting point is 00:49:56 It awaits. It's coming soon, Dustin. Hang tight. As for some of those bubble jobs, I think we know there's 10 forwards on this team. Who is 12 and 13? I don't know. Hunt, Klapka, Zari,
Starting point is 00:50:12 Rzitschka. It's going to be a revolving door, Pender. Let's not, we don't have to pick one. I agree. I agree. And on the seven, like they've really like Solov, Solov, but also a guy probably plays
Starting point is 00:50:25 number one, number two minutes in the A, so that wouldn't be the worst place for him to start. Gilbert, I really like his seven. He stepped in and changed the energy of games. Just an embarrassment of riches. Well, I mean, if you had showy guys just banging on the door. Seven, that might be a little more of the riches, but yeah. Yeah, I know. Where's Valamaki?
Starting point is 00:50:42 Someone's just in the comments. Has he been sent down right in the, he was at the, he's at the Diamondbacks playoff game. Right. He's in, he's in frigging Milwaukee. He's going to say, what's he doing? Okay. We'll move from there to, well, yeah, you showed at the Matthew Phillips School. We don't need to show it again.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Well done, sir. Major League Baseball playoffs. What is it about baseball playoffs or everything's just a little different, Dean? It's like you take, ah, there's another game tomorrow. This is one of 162. Ah, you know, there's 67 games left to go. That's all gone. You don't stress about losses and the regulars.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Hey, you know, just whatever. Nope. Playoff baseball. Every friggin pitch matters. It's a roller coaster. emotions. Sure is. Standing at the TV, arms
Starting point is 00:51:29 crossed, clenched fists, hearing the blood in my ears, vision fading, nothing like playoff baseball. You better shut that TV off. Thomas, back away from the TV. Press the life alert button on your next thing. Matt Chapman almost did a very nice
Starting point is 00:51:47 thing for the Blue Jays. Two men on. He tags a ball. Two feet further. I feel like the narrative is very different today about the Toronto Blue Jays. Chapman lost one deep to right center, going back Taylor on the track at the wall. He makes the catch. He made the catch from a four-three lead.
Starting point is 00:52:07 That's how close it was for the Jays. Gosman was not sharp. I did like him in the fourth where he mowed down 7, 8, 9, but third time through the lineup, short night for the race. It's weird. I said yesterday the twins were the one team that got to him. They put up 10, whatever it was, 10 run, 7 innings and walks. Yeah, they weren't.
Starting point is 00:52:25 We weren't offering at the splitter until the fourth. So was it, those are your worst three hitters and, of course, Gosman got them or was it he's finally locating this pitch either way. Well, it was two nothing in the bottom of the first. Yeah, which is not a death sentence, right? I mean, it's two runs. It was could he settle in? It's great.
Starting point is 00:52:46 Bullpen, four scoreless innings. Love your approach. Yeah, it's not a, hey, look it. It was almost, I mean, almost said there's a lead. Well, I mean, yeah, it was a two-run shot in the first inning, but, you know, it's no big deal. One guy killed them. That Royce Lewis had a day. Two home runs, all three runs, the twins scored, and they are favored again today.
Starting point is 00:53:07 How was Springer? Can I say something, Dean? Yeah. Pinder, remember I talked about with Frank the day about the blue, like the real dyed in the wool? Is that what you said? Mm-hmm. Those are real fans. Like, the rose-colored shades are on, the glasses are on.
Starting point is 00:53:25 the, we'll find hope in all that's lost. And that is Pender with the Blue Jays. Hey, it sucks me a down one oh, two runs in the first, uh, eight more innings. What are you talking about? They got three, they got three runs.
Starting point is 00:53:42 They're talking about it. That's what I'm saying. It wasn't like a lot of five spot, right? It was not like, the first thing I said was he wasn't sharp. That's their best pitcher and he didn't, he didn't pitch that one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:52 And they scored. Yeah. And they scored. scored one run. Now you were right, low scoring. I called the under. Springer 0 for five. Big spots too. Big spots. You big money. This is where you're supposed to be. Eighth. They can't even get them to third. That's frustrating. Boe makes the gamble coming home on a platinum glove shortstop who throws them out at home. That's not a smart play. It was right there. But the twins were better. And now you have no tomorrow's. You must do anything you can today
Starting point is 00:54:22 to extend your life to tomorrow. So the exact opposite of the regular season? That's right. This is the cruelty of baseball. Small samples now. Do they have any champagne, though? Any champagne left? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:54:35 They've got to win two games in a row. The Twins, I think, have a lot of champagne on ice today. Probably, yeah. Here are your games. Let's take a look. Four of them. It's Wild Card Day 2. You didn't talk about the other scores.
Starting point is 00:54:49 What happened in the game? Well, that's what we're doing right now. So the Ray's lost at home. They host game two against the Rangers. That's your early start, 108 in the afternoon. Diamondbacks, they won on the road against the brew crew.
Starting point is 00:55:00 They're up 1-0. That game goes at 5.08 Mountain. And the nightcap Phillies at home did take care of Miami last night. Pump! Did you see the attendance for that Rangers raise game? Fucking embarrassing. It shouldn't surprise you. 19,000.
Starting point is 00:55:15 Lowest playoff attendance since 1919. Last afternoon, yeah. Hot. But there's a roof on the place. Is there flooding down there? I thought there's flooding. I know what there is. There's a huge, huge chance of apathy.
Starting point is 00:55:30 That's what I'm seeing. Yeah, there's percentage is high. Yeah, like 99% for a low give a shit meter. Yeah. It's embarrassing. It's too bad. And it's just a good team every year. Oh, it does make playoffs.
Starting point is 00:55:42 Yeah. Just the playoff team year after year. How many markets would kill for that? Like just the team that gets in every year. Oh, my God. What do we need to tell you here? Tonight it is Burrios against Sunny Gray, another Syon candidate going for the twins. If you don't like watching the J's trying to hit against good pitching, this might be another tough one for you.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Is it tonight or this afternoon? 2.38. Tonight or this afternoon? 238. Excuse me. Yeah, today for the Jays. Same start time all three games, if necessary. Berrios might have a short leash.
Starting point is 00:56:13 There's no point saving anyone. If he wobbles in the second inning, Dino, why not go to you say Kikuchi? Chris Bassett. Anyone else. I saw your bets. I'm a little nervous about that. I don't have a good feeling coming up in my betway bets. To the NFL, the Madden curse.
Starting point is 00:56:31 This is different. I haven't seen this one before. You get on the cover of Madden, what happens? You're done. Goes badly, yeah? So how's she going to do this? Because, I mean, she's been selling out tours for two years. You know what?
Starting point is 00:56:41 You'll curse Madden. She's not going to be stopped by anything. Nope. Didn't see that one coming. But I guess then again, maybe I've been paying attention the last two weeks. This is the best player in the NFL, right? A lot of attention.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Brise Hall getting more attention than he wants. He went on to play Madden, and people climbed into the old, hey, chat with my opponent. Hey, buddy, maybe you could score some touchdowns. The Jets wouldn't have one win. Maybe the Jets would win more if you could score a TD in real life, not Madden. He just wants to place video games and distress.
Starting point is 00:57:17 People all over. Can I just play some bad? There's some fingers to point in New York. I don't know if it's Breece Hall, who by the way is no longer limited at all in his practice and or reps. It's going to be full Bruce Hall, Dino, which I know your fantasy team's going to like. Let's go. And finally, no more Matt Canada. We've got very sensitive.
Starting point is 00:57:35 I have to scratch it off. Jack was embarrassed. He says, I'm not putting the Matt Canada stuff in. Oh, well, what? Wait a minute. He's still texting me about Matt Canada three times a day. He says, I don't want it in the PIN report. I'm telling him, this is a.
Starting point is 00:57:49 the show thing now. His obsession with the offensive coordinator of his favorite football team. Jack, what the age. Never the sophomore quarterback's fault. It's always the offensive coordinator. And he's like, I can't have it at the Pinderport anymore. And he still texts me about Matt Canada every day. He's got a burner. He's on Twitter. He's doing this, doing that. Let's give it a week.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Like, he doesn't need some idiot from Calgary getting mad at him. He's had enough. That'll be a bit. Hope it doesn't have social media. Yeah. Yeah. Then he'll really feel the temperature go down if you lay off of him. Well, the Steelers really turn it around once the guy in Calgary stopped chirping the O coordinator.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Tried to play some PS5. He doesn't need a guy in Calgary chirp. Fellas, it's a final regular season game of the Canadian Premier League season for Cavalry this weekend. They're going to raise a brand new trophy no one's ever seen. Let's take a look at the standings. Here's why they're home and cooled. Look at that. 10 points at top to table.
Starting point is 00:58:43 Tommy, you stud. And yeah, those next four blue spots, those are they four other teams? teams they're going to make the playoffs. Calvary will have a buy. Even if they lose their first game, they get to try to come in the back door of the draw. They're in a really good spot here. And for those other five teams, a lot of positioning to be sorted out, including Athletical Ottawa can slide into that top group as well. Let's take a look at the slate this weekend. You know, party with the Cavs Saturday, 3 o'clock here in Calgary as they host Pacific. Valor at the Halifax Wanderers on Friday. You have Vancouver FC against York 9.
Starting point is 00:59:21 That's Friday as well. And then Forge Athletico, a huge one for which teams are in and which are out for the CPL playoffs. See, it's Bruce Meadows on Saturday, Dean. I know you're looking for things to do actively. I'm not, but, yeah, see you there. Love it. New trophy. Trovee.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Yes. Trophy. Lifting. Yes. Celebrate. Raise it high. For failing hands. Hold it high.
Starting point is 00:59:50 Disneyland, Disney World. Who's been where? I've been to land, not world. Retro? Both. Really? I've done land as well. You're on the west side of the country.
Starting point is 00:59:59 It's more likely you do land, but some people have been to world. I think you went during the pandemic. You got to wait for a pandemic to hit. Lifeline was made for you and me. Apparently, it wasn't the happiest place on earth for one lady who's suing them. This from the New York Times. A woman experienced a, quote, painful way. and suffered, quote, severe and permanent bodily injury, end quote, after going down Walt Disney World's 214 foot water slide called the humonga cowabunga.
Starting point is 01:00:30 According to a lawsuit, she and her husband accused the park of negligence. You ever had a wedgy so bad you wanted to sue Disney World? No, I wanted to smack the crap out of my brother, but no, no, not Disney. This is America, right? This isn't happening anywhere else on Earth, right? nowhere else in the world does even be considered. Sounds like she needed a good serving of the humonga cal. I would like to see the,
Starting point is 01:00:56 there's got to be some video of this. I would hope so, Red. Right. Like severe injuries. What are we talking about? What kind of injuries? Upper body, lower body.
Starting point is 01:01:08 Is she day to day? It feels lower. It's got to be honest. Painful legy. Permanent bodily injury. Humonga, Kawabunga is a great name. That's a Pender Report, fellas.
Starting point is 01:01:22 It's Friday, baby. Is it? Friday night. Time for a ride on the humonga, Kawabunga. New in-stock inventory on the ground. Village Honda. Start your automotive adventures at Village Honda.
Starting point is 01:01:41 New vehicle pricing is MSRP. Northwest Automall online villagehonda.com. They're your dealership for life. MSRP. Major sober, Ryan Pindon. under. Two beers yesterday. Two. Well, brag to us about your BS.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Like, not BS. Hey, Ryan, congrats and not getting. You had two. Loser drunk. Yeah, they were getting snout on a Tuesday afternoon.
Starting point is 01:02:05 It's just growth. Why, what did it look like last year? Didn't you just have two last year? You were very, that's the growth. Calm and collected. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:18 I lopped off 20 last year. Was it 20? I'm not buying it. So you had a, table. And people were, I got a table for 10. People are going to be coming and going. It was very kind of a, how did that end up?
Starting point is 01:02:33 That's good. Yeah. Sat by yourself. All the 15 people. Yeah. Calgary buddies, Vancouver people. So many buddies. Good times.
Starting point is 01:02:46 Sound tight. Only a table for 10 or 12. Some guys had to stand. So many buddies. So what are you doing today for the must win? I don't have plans. Come on. I'm switching the jersey.
Starting point is 01:03:00 I will do something. I just don't have plans again. Mama bears home. So we're sort of in like putting out fires mode. What's going to happen here? Oh, really? Like what? Well, the flowers arrived yesterday.
Starting point is 01:03:10 So that's a good start. And like, well, yeah, I'll do that today. Yeah. I'll let her hear you say that. Hmm.
Starting point is 01:03:17 Right. They don't like that. No, they don't. They don't seem to. But it is good to see you too. Thanks for coming back. Have you heard of the humonga,
Starting point is 01:03:29 Cowabunga, babe? I'm tired. I'm jet leg. Get your hands off me. We talked about Greta. Again, Nationgear.ca. Get those tickets for the Greta season opener party next Wednesday.
Starting point is 01:03:42 We're going to be at Greta. The location. And I mean, again, you've just probably going. It's probably going to Google it, but it's 10th Ave. 2.13, 10th of Southwest. We're going to be there. Have we explained how good of a deal that is, by the way? Because you're like tickets, what?
Starting point is 01:03:58 30 bucks in arcade money, grab bag, food and drink specials, money going to charity, 20 bucks? How's the math we're going on? That's some boomer math there. You get 30 bucks for the video games
Starting point is 01:04:10 and a donation to a charity and food specials for 20 bucks. That is my kind of math. Have you seen these new calculators? My kid's calculator has a case for it because it's so complex. Yeah. And I,
Starting point is 01:04:26 we need, needed somebody in the neighborhood needed to borrow it their kid needed it or something i didn't do the does it work check just turn it on and see if the batteries work i couldn't even turn the fucking thing on i was like where's the power i don't i left it on the front step here figure it out i don't know what the hell this says there it is wednesday october the 11 next wednesday gretabar dot com slash events for some details there's darrell's during the chat that's very lovely is darrell back in the chat sure you same show what are the odds chiming in A place to be, Big D.
Starting point is 01:05:06 Lots of room out there at the ranch. It's a farm, is it a ranch? What are we calling it? Oh, he's got everything. It's a ranch. Yeah, I don't know what the... Ranch has cattle, right? Ranch has cattle.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Yeah. 800 was the number. And I don't know that it's, we're within the, it's the neighborhood of 800. That's how many turkeys are sitting at Bontan right now. Oh, that's a lot. The tractor trailer. showed up eight hondo for this weekend which of course is thanksgiving weekend here not to
Starting point is 01:05:38 change the subject at all but just feels like you're off it a little bit yeah are we over the tudukkah it was a big thing it's still you can i feel like i need to try it more you can hear about it but it's just not a focal point anymore i'm going to text keller and find out i feel like it was kind of a novelty right yeah it was okay it's a what it's a turkey and a duck and what What? You can still make all three. You don't need to friggin ram them all together into the same. I mean,
Starting point is 01:06:10 you know. Well, and like we talked about, when you do that, it still comes down to how good is your gravy and your stuffing. That's right. That's right. I feel like it would be fun to do,
Starting point is 01:06:22 but if you've done it once, I could see it losing steam. And the poor turkey, like the turkey's taking it. They don't do this when they're alive. Like the turkeys take. What is it, the chicken then the duck or the duck then the chicken? Which one is?
Starting point is 01:06:35 Chicken then duck, I believe. Huh. No, boy, I know. Anyway, tomorrow on the program, tomorrow was Thursday. Ask Rhett makes its return for the hockey season. A presentation of Bontan meat market. Highest quality product. Satisfied customers.
Starting point is 01:06:55 It's what we've come to know and expect. That's all it is. Is the best of the best and happy people up at 28 crowfoot circle in the northwest, Bontonmeetmarket.com. It's just annually, consumer choice award winner for best deli meat market in the city. And what are we doing to Ask Rett?
Starting point is 01:07:10 Is that tomorrow? Thursdays? We did Thursdays, right? I'm open, I mean, with whatever one. Thursday is the best day. Thursday. Friday is that fifth day
Starting point is 01:07:23 where nobody wants to work, so that's not a good idea. Email in your questions. Ask Rett at Flamesnation.C.A. We have a few coming in. I'll pass them along to you, Retro. So you can have some time to kind of let them marinate and really kind of
Starting point is 01:07:36 better, it's spontaneous, but sure. You're right. Why aren't you coming to work on Friday? Science. It's all about science, folks. I got into a bit of a thing yesterday. Thing. I remember I started the show yesterday. I said to you,
Starting point is 01:07:56 Retro, I said, it's Tuesday, this whole thing, because we've talked about it before. The first Tuesday of the month, you go to the grocery store. Yes. Good. And you load up on, you know, your butter. Wasn't that what it was specifically butter for you? Seven bricks.
Starting point is 01:08:10 So much butter. 15% off on the first Tuesday of every month. It's like, well, you know, whatever. Maybe it's because we're getting older. It sounds like an old person kind of thing. Is that an old person thing? It is. It's like coupons.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Is that what we? I don't have a change purse yet. But no, I went, I got Thanksgiving coming, all the things for the meal and all that went out yesterday. Get through the, uh, till. And I'm waiting for the. the end, and, uh, and you save today on 50%. It's, uh, oh, do you have your scene card? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:42 My what? Your scene card. Well, no, I'm not a teenager. I'm not collecting points to go and see. Friggin' mean girls. Like, no, I don't have a, and scene card. Oh, that's too bad because if you did, you'd get 15% off today.
Starting point is 01:09:03 Got to have the card. What's that? Yeah. It's the, if you have a scene card, you'd get 15%. I've been doing this a long time. Now, I've, I've never had a scene card. Don't have one, never had one. Always get 15.
Starting point is 01:09:22 What's, uh, what's the deal? What's the deal with this? Would you like to sign up right now, sir? I'd be happy to get you a forum. No, I don't want to sign up right now. I just want the 15% off. This is like like this place and this place and this place. Let's get a manager involved.
Starting point is 01:09:40 did you. Well, I mean, I filled the cart. I was 15 points off. That's a great. I love where you've gone with this. I appreciate your stick toitiveness. It's definitely old man boom stuff. I was hoping to hear you walked F out without paying.
Starting point is 01:10:02 Leave that cart. Just leave it. Say, cool. You guys reshows. Dean, here you go. That was the first thing. I'll give you a fucking. scene.
Starting point is 01:10:11 Yeah. Because you know what? It's like the quarterback doing this checkdowns. Yeah. First, my first option, walk out, leave the cart,
Starting point is 01:10:18 leave all the, fuck it. I'm out. Do you, here's your scene card. Stick it. But I had gone through, there were people in line.
Starting point is 01:10:27 Oh, and I had a, I had. So you called the manager? Well, no, what I did is I left. I'm like,
Starting point is 01:10:35 oh, well, this is, I can't go back now. So I'm swipe it and pay. I'm hot. I'm hot. I'm hot.
Starting point is 01:10:42 So I get to the vehicle. I text my wife. I'm like, this is some bullshit. You want to get a load of this. Friggin, you got to have some scene card to get your 15. It's been this way since like the dawn of time.
Starting point is 01:10:55 First Tuesday of every month. You get 15% off. Oh, you got to have a scene card. What am I riding my scooter to the theater with my scene card? What the age? She's like, well, I have a scene card. I'll send it to you. No, don't send it to me.
Starting point is 01:11:09 I don't want you. scene card. I don't need a scene card. I just need my 15 pet trucked her back in. Just customer service. Just want to talk to somebody about the scene card. I don't need a scene card. I have so many cards, many cards. I don't need another card. Just looking for that 15% off. You know, I'm a valued customer. Come here a lot. Be great. I forget to do that. Well, I do the thing. Here you go. Gives me the slip. Ten scene points. No. Here's the thing. Not looking. for the scene points
Starting point is 01:11:43 looking for the dough boomer you can just get the scene card on your phone you know shut up jack if you want to tune to the jack cam right now jack can you hold that up first he's just he's pressed the button on the phone and then there's his scene card and he gets his 15% every Tuesday now there's he just weighs it
Starting point is 01:12:07 yeah but he's the guy right in the scooter there's the jack cam yeah bugger fucker off got some gravy on it. Grandpa's got enough apps on his phone. I don't need no damn... I don't need your own. I don't want it on my phone either.
Starting point is 01:12:23 It takes up memory. But I enjoyed it because I knew you guys would enjoy it. So I made sure I leaned into all of it. And it just kept going. It's like, here's your scene points. Like, I don't... I can't need...
Starting point is 01:12:35 Buddy, I can't be more clear to you. I don't care about scene cards or points. I just want 50 to 50. to 15% off. So be careful out there. Before you go sauntering in and fill in your cart full of stuff. There's stuff. There's a lot of idiocy going on there because
Starting point is 01:12:52 what's the cashier thinking? Cashier could have just went. Yes. And her scene or his scene card. And then they get the points. Could have. 10 points. Those big 10 points. Yeah. What's like going to get you? Half a bag of nibs?
Starting point is 01:13:09 That gets you the free butter. That's good. Talking about movies. So I can go I might have to have popcorn to me. Doug's coming to tell him. Is he? The DUG. Flying in,
Starting point is 01:13:19 driving, how are we doing? Hamilton. Flying to Hamilton. Oh, nice. That's a great airport. It's a little hack. Go to the hammer. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:27 Great airport. Did we like, how was Jamie McLennon today? Happy? Very sportsy. It was pretty sporty. Yeah. I was freaked out.
Starting point is 01:13:38 I didn't know what was going on. I know he was in his vehicle, but was that a big sunroof? there? I think so. It's bigger than a sunrope. Moonroof. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:46 I wanted to comment on it, but I feel like you guys know, Jamie much better than I do. I'm not there yet. You know what I'm shy. It takes me a while to warm. Yeah, break out. Two beer.
Starting point is 01:13:55 Yeah. If you could just kind of break out, that'd be good. No, big sunroof. He's riding in style. Okay, Terrell. Brin Big D. Big D's got a scene card.
Starting point is 01:14:08 He's probably not, Big D probably doesn't care about 15% either. but uh yeah he might like the process of it all dean yeah so yeah jama mcclin fancy car so jama mclin i'm gonna join us uh now what do we got coming up tomorrow tomorrow we got darcy hortic chuck on the proffordy chuck so our boy ozzie brad i look over who's this big fucking white chargers oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh this cut we're gonna find the other side of that story geez unless it's a even even the ozzy brad see bombs still kind of give you the twitch not anymore i'm not I'm doing it, but I'm married to In Oz's, who knows?
Starting point is 01:14:46 I guess so. He doesn't miss, though. So we'll get Horticichicks out of that story. Let's, uh, let's do some Betway bets. Hey, Betts of the day. It's got to be baseball. Betway, get the Betway app on your telephone on your little phone. It's like the scene card. You get the app.
Starting point is 01:15:02 You just go. It's right on your phone. Is it that easy? Super easy, bud. That easy. It's that easy. It's stupid. I don't know what the hell's the matter with you.
Starting point is 01:15:11 Just get the app in your phone. What kind of ancient fossil? Why is this so hard? That's the easiest thing in the world. Just get it on your phone and then you press it. Look, there it is. There's some odds for today. I'm sorry, Ryan.
Starting point is 01:15:27 I'm going to the Twin Cities. Twins minus one and a half is paying plus 135. It's sunny gray. He's been good. Jose Rios. Over two and a half runs allowed. It's my. minus 110. He's been three or more pretty consistent.
Starting point is 01:15:47 See, I don't mind this bet in a regular season game. My concern for you is if he allows two in the third inning, like they're just going to another pitcher. You might be right, but I think if it's a short leash, but he still could allow those early. That's my thing. I don't know. It's his former team.
Starting point is 01:16:02 It's playoffs. It's a must win. The best playoff guy. Don't love him in this spot. So I'm going to take over two and a half runs allowed. I hope, listen, for your sake, I hope I'm wrong. but I got a busy Thursday. I don't need a stupid.
Starting point is 01:16:15 I kind of don't know if I am. Waste my day. Over two and a half runs allowed for Jose Burrios minus 110. So those are my bets of the day. I'm on same game, same state, but I'm going to hitting, not pitching. Royce Lewis single-handedly destroyed the Blue Jays. Over one and a half total bases plus money.
Starting point is 01:16:32 Yep. And who wants to make amends for a boneheaded playing game one? That would be Boba Shedd, who I believe finished with a pair of hits as well in this contest. Over one and a half total basis. he's paying plus $1.15 also. I like this quote afterwards about that play that you're talking about. So what were you thinking on that play?
Starting point is 01:16:51 Well, I was pretty much sure with where I was at that he was going to have to make a perfect play to get me out. And that's platinum Glover, Carlos Correa, that did make the perfect play. The other thing with Bo, he ain't fast anymore. He used to steal 25 bags a year. That ain't him anymore. He's below average. What's the hell do you beat this year? Is this guy old?
Starting point is 01:17:11 How old we're? No, but he's just not fast. I don't know what it is. I think he wants it so bad and he thinks he's faster than he is. That's the problem there. He's definitely cocky. He wanted to win very badly
Starting point is 01:17:24 and he's made a poor decision. See, again, you can't just... Poor decision. Cucky. Stay with your process. Shouldn't change because it's wild card. Now you've got to be a hero. Stay with your process.
Starting point is 01:17:37 And you're staying home to watch today? I'll be somewhere. I'm not sure. See what's all. I'm not figured it out yet. I don't want to be at home. Two days left of the Aussie mother-in-law. I'm not hanging at home.
Starting point is 01:17:50 Just because the baseball game's on, you can't watch the baseball because he'll be nervous or just in general. I don't want to be at home. Generally, just try not to be at home. I sleep there. I have dinner there. I have breakfast there.
Starting point is 01:18:03 The day is the time to not be in the house. It's such a nice place. He was at home with Aussie mother-in-law while the wife wasn't around. Like that is it. Interesting. Yeah. Humonga,
Starting point is 01:18:16 Cowabunga. That's the not wanting to be home. Thank you. Jack Wilson. Jesus. That'll do it. We'll be back tomorrow. Ask Red Darcy Hortichock.
