Yeah. Oh, yeah. And we were there with another family. Yeah. And they said, well, you can buy so many tickets. And I said, this is my money. I'll spend as much as I want. Sure.

But dad cuffed me upside the fucking head. And so it's all the long. You'll come with me. All right. Real quick. I did get to crop dust a bunch of oil fans, which was the only blessing in disguise of being there. Yeah. Because, you know, he had a bit of a night on Thursday, a bit of a night Friday.

I think it was. And just major, huge back oil of France, crop dust. It had to have been last year. We were there. We were in town. And of course, the girls wanted to go to the mall. And because I remember seeing people trucking their roller bags through the, like just the swarm of people. And I couldn't decide if that was, well, if you're.

staying at the hotel, at least you're not having to park and drive and that sort of thing, but you are having to navigate these crowds with gear. A goalie bag? Yeah. We did it once. We loved it. I got to give them credit. The boys loved play.

Hell of a tournament. Yeah, tons of fun. And how did we do? We got a gold and the silver. Two gold medal games. Decisive both. Yeah. Double A kid, not's good.

Div one's four in a great year. Nice. Excellent. Yeah. How about you? What was the year weekend? I don't do anything. It's not accurate at all.

What about the bills game? It was a barn burner. It's a big weekend. I found a karaoke machine. I couldn't say no to on Friday, made you. Oh, you were hammered. Weird how we started the night.

We weren't too keen on the karaoke. No, it's a terrible idea. A lot of standing ovation. Until it's a great idea. Great ideas. Yeah. And then the bills had me tied up and knots.

Not enough. They might be the most fun team to cheer for, though. Bills? Yeah. Oh, right now, yeah. I don't know. Like their games are entertaining.

The defense is. just bad enough and the offense is that elite that it's never over and it's always entertaining. I don't know how they won that game. It would be interesting to see how many of their games hit the over. Yeah, it would. Because it feels like you say, they give up points. That run

defense is porous. Is a bit of a a headache, I would guess. They're terrible. Terrible. It doesn't feel like a recipe for long term success. When you think about January football, it's like, can you run the ball? Can you stop the run? And you're like, well, one out of two is not bad. also of Josh Allen.

Maybe that'll make up for the inability to stop the run. And not to have more fantasy football talk, but I have him. It's the first time I've ever had him. He joins a club that's already got Corel Caprizov in his prime. Brock Faber emerging as a star, an excellent goaltending tandem in the wall from St. Paul and Gustafson. They also got Zuccarello still producing.

Eric Sinek, Falino. This is a good team boys. And they're in a division that's got the stars in the abs. who are probably the two best teams in the West right now. Minnesota making a statement, chips pushed in. How did they get them? Well, center Marco Rossi, who's not huge, but absolutely is a scoring center. He goes to Vancouver.

They have huge center depth issues after trading, you know, Horvett and Miller and Lee's Patterson being hurt, but looking like he'll return this week. Zee Boyum, who was selected after Zane Peract and is having an excellent start to his NHL career. And Liam Ogren, a 21-year-old who was about a point per game last year in the American League and is absolutely an NHLer now. They get three roster players today and the Wilds first. This is Blockbuster Boys.

That Ogren, because again, I was doing the old Warmeys. Yeah. He was the pick that came along with Faber in the Theology. What a trade that was. So goodness. Not too shabby. And that was when they were paying Souter and Parize, like $50 million a year to not play hockey. They didn't want to move Fiol.

They're like, we just can't afford this guy. We've got to turn them into some futures. And then when these biopain pain is done, we'll have some kids. What a deal. He's probably pumped. because he couldn't get in. Yeah. So what,

like, what are your, because I can see both sides. I like it for both teams. If they sign Hughes, obviously it's one thing. If they play him for, and then he leaves a free agency,

that's another thing. Yeah. It's interesting that they have, like, Marco Rossi's been talked about as available for a long time. I don't know what that means. The bridge in the summer

they didn't sound long term. Right? It could mean that he's not a good, they feel he's not going to be, uh, a number one or a number two center. I don't know, but he's been available. Obviously, Boyham has had a great start to the year,

and you have to give up something to get. Yeah. I agree with you. A Hall of Fame defense. Like, Hughes is super. Somehow he's underappreciated for a guy that leaves the league and de-scoring half the time. So late starts, Steve.

Norris trophies and all this. It's a massive, massive deal. It's a, yeah. To try to think of a deal this big that went down, like, it's bigger than Randen it. I think it is. I think it's more similar to the Cichuk, because everyone knew Cuch wanted out of here, and you felt like Trilling wasn't going to get anything.

And then you end up getting this huge package. Obviously, it was a four-piece deal as well to Calvary. Cole Schwint being the minor one. The other one's all major. They both include a first rounder, roster players to help the team trading the star. And I get it. Minnesota's deep. They've been doing really well in the draft the last five years.

They've been waiting and waiting and waiting for that cap pain to be done with the buyouts. And chips are in in a division that might have the three. best teams in the West if he helps them as much as they think you. I agree with you. Chips are in, but I think it's just a savvy move by Gillette, care, too, where it's like, if this guy's available, and these are pieces, because I think they probably like all those pieces. Yes. You should like all the pieces you gave up. But he's like, well, we need a difference maker instead of these pieces. I wonder would they maybe see, you got to give up something. Yeah. Like, obviously, it's not like

they were unhappy with Boym. They see Boyleman and Faber is maybe similar players. I kind of think back, remember when it was Burns and Carlson, it's like, well, they're both kind of the same. More isn't always more. You have to give up some studs to get one of the best in the world. And interestingly,

like, I don't know that Vancouver's going to be worse this year because of the deal. Ogrin helps them. He's going to play there. He was sort of in and out in Minnesota a bit this year. Absolutely. You needed someone that could eat minutes if you're going to move Quinn Hughes. And William looks capable of that already very early in his crew.

What, this is his first full season. Yes. Like incredible. To a career. Second full season, excuse me. Yeah. Because he came in and started in the spring after his son. That doesn't.

If you have the hand on top of that, Marco Rossi, real quick. Second line center last year in the regular season for the while puts up like 60 points. You're like, wow, what a season. They play him as a fourth line center in the playoffs and then bridge them and don't sign them long term. And you're like, okay. Interesting. All of a sudden there was like, what about offer sheets? is this guy a trade target.

It just felt like they had the chance to marry him long term last summer. They didn't do it. And Vancouver, Philippeal hurt. They trade J.T. Miller. Horvats been gone for a bit. Pedersen hurt. David Camp was their number one center a couple days ago. They need centers bad.

So I think both teams are better today. Yeah, I think you're sad if you're a Canucks fan. He's your guy. He's one of the best players that's ever wore in a Canucks jersey. But you cannot look at the trade and say, didn't get enough. You have to make that deal. that you've lost a Hall of Fame defenseman,

but you should not be sad about the fact that they've accepted where they are and are trying to build for the future. So we all kind of felt like Hughes was going to leave Vancouver. Yeah. That he was destined for New Jersey. At some point it feels that way. Do you feel the same way that New Jersey is the eventual landing spot regardless, or does this change it now?

It drops the percentages for me. Like he did a nine-minute press availability, I think it was yesterday or the day before. and the way he talks about his first four hours there, he's absolutely saying. It's what you're going to say. No, it is. But when you watch the full nine,

like this isn't a guy going up and spinning. Like he has a lot of really honest answers. Yeah. And it actually leads you to believe that this decision was probably pretty much made in the summer. They made a real run to like, are we going to be able to sign you? Because if we aren't, we need to know. And then the bad start is the final nail in the cough.

And he was already leaning that way. And then it was like in the last two weeks. He said, yeah, like, had the chance. chat with Jim Rutherford. I don't know what the deal was coming, and then he goes to New York with the team. Let's hear the clip. We got a clip from Quinn first? Quinn first.

There was a few, before we react to that, they go and pick him up from New York. I think Garon flew out. They forgot to put his bag on the plane. Need that. And again, you're going to say the right things, but when you listen to Quinn Hughes talk, it doesn't feel like he's come right out of Agent PR training. No, for sure. And he also had, because I wanted to see what the comment there was. He talked about how last week that game in Vancouver kind of felt like he knew that was going to be his last game as a Knoch.

It's kind of like, yeah, this has been in the, works obviously for a long time, but for him to kind of detail how I had the last meal with the team. I knew that was going to be it. And I knew that was my last game. They did a pretty good job of keeping this under wraps. He even said he went to dinner with his brothers because they're playing New York, New Jersey's right there. They knew before it broke. It was a night before the deal happened. Yeah. And so we'll see. I mentioned this in the, we did a little YouTube breakdown for four minutes on Friday night. The CBA's changed, but they have lagged a few things.

So we know in the new CBA max term for a team keeping their players now seven years, not eight. That kicks in September 15th of next year, not July 1. The agents of players fought hard to keep another three months of that right so that Minnesota will be able to offer eight years. And if he plays rates of free agency, the longest term you can sign to go to a new place is only six years. And if you look at him in a Caprizov type salary, which would be 17 and a half million, and the ability to signing bonus, which has been neutered pretty effectively in the new CBA, you can offer probably in present day value of money

an extra 30 or 40 million for him to stay in Minnesota at like a same AAV. That's wild. No pun intended. No, it's like that's a lot of money. One year, because that's what was eight years versus seven. Even that was significant. It's a real advantage it felt like to a lot of the teams.

And now it's two for this three month window because they're lagging the eight year thing. And by the time he's of you, it's only six to a new team. If he likes it there, that's what it all is going to do. That's what it's going to be. It's 100% that. And I've never heard anyone not.

Yeah, people like especially, they're actually a really exciting team now. We made fun of the wild for decades. I don't think it's a destination for guys to get to, but I've never heard anyone play their goal. This is miserable. I hated here.

No, it's a hockey market. And as he noted, which I hadn't thought about, close to home. Like, it's probably as close or closer than New Jersey is. I do kind of wonder if,

if some of that, if the wild are going to be a competitive team and if the experience is a good one, if the whole play with your brothers thing. Like we're still brothers. We'll spend a lot of time together. Don't play hockey forever. And we're all summer and.

If I'm Bill Garron, I would say to Quinn, get all this money and the moment you want to get traded will move you. You want to play with your brothers. We'll trade you in four years. That's fine. Yeah.

But like get this deal. and you let us know when you're like here's the real truth of superstars if they ask for a trade go do they ever like no sorry you're staying i know and especially especially him because everyone wants the elite guys superstars yeah you can get that's what i said with no trades and that like especially with mac david you if you do not if you decide today's you'll look at patrick waugh i'm done trade me yeah you can get traded yeah you'll get whatever you want when you're at that level and he is at that level. go do the right thing. And honestly, if you're in the spirit of change, there's better coaches for young teams. Not trying to run Lundy. It's just not a fit with this group, man. The moment they hired it, we were all like, that's a head scratcher. Is this a friend's deal,

or is this the best available coach for a young team that's lacking structure? Well, there's a guy. I'm going to shut up. Jay McKee call. I'll do it for you. I do like it. We don't need to.

There's nothing normal about the DeBuffalo series. There's an absolute desperation out of just pure pride and fan apathy. you can't go 15 years and if you don't think he can get you there

how far out are they six points you got 50 games to make up six points but you have to show that town that you're trying to and I don't know if Lundy's a guy or making a trade who else are you getting is the bigger question would he go there I don't know if you offer

Now, there was, I think it was Jeff Merrick on the weekend who said, if you install a new GM, do you make a coaching change? And if you do, do you call John Tortorella? Good.

That's the identity that would fit. I don't even mean this ignorantly, but I think at some point long in the tooth becomes just effing old. And so is torts there. Torch is on the cusp. Like, you saw torts packing it in. not packing it. He doesn't pack it. He's changed. Even Serge said it on the show. We all do. And he has for sure.

But when you think of torts as a coach, what do you think of? Structure, work ethic, accountability? Yeah, but why do we have to re- We don't have to? We don't have to. I'm not lobbying for Torst to get hired here. I'm not. That's not my first pick. But what I am lobbying for is a coach that gives this club what they're missing. They're not short on talent. Like you've got Rasmus Dahlene. You've got Tage Thompson.

You've got some really nice pieces to be. build around the goaltending, you know, when it's there, it's not a problem. But like I look at, if you think there's a way to make the playoffs, you make that change now because you've got an Olympic break and you've got a Christmas break. If you're going to install someone, you have to do it before these big windows where you can put a plan in place if you're a new coach. That new GM had better have a bunch of conversations with the players to understand what they think of, let you rough and it should be based on that.

And Yarmel's not tied to him. That is not a Yarmel higher. So I'm with you. If that, if he gets the vibe that no, no, this is, we need to make a turn. The problem I have, and it's the damned if you do, damned if you don't, with coaches. Like if Colorado doesn't hire Bednar, who do they hire? And they got in,

they were hot on them for a while. Like, how do you bring in some nobody? And now he's probably regarded as really good coach. Is he a really good coach? I don't know. Was Mike Sullivan a really good coach? Because Dan Balsma was a really good coach till he wasn't, like,

do you go to, Pete DeBore again or a torturella and rehash it? I don't even care about the, I've been a coach that's one X, Y, or Z. That team needs a structure and an identity. Lindy's not giving him it. Okay, great. So I don't know who that guy is necessarily,

but if you're already thinking about changes and you don't believe the season's lost, it's happening. If you think the season's lost, absolutely let him run out until the summer. And see, it's a very simplistic way, I don't think the Sabres are where they're at because of coaching. I do. I think they could,

every team could probably use better coaching. But I don't look at that team and think they're, because I don't think they're Supreme Leas. They have some okay players like Tage Thompson is a goal score, but their goaltending is not great. Dahlene is a good, is a very good player. He's really good.

He's better than we think. But their goaltending is subpar. And so it all depends on that in two. Turn a lot to. If they think this roster is under delivering or not this. All I'm saying is if you bring in a new young head coach who's chomping at the bit, it's like we're, you know what, we're going to be hard to play against. We're going to have work ethic. We're going to be hard. I don't think it's that easy. But the point I made earlier is probably important as well where Lindy didn't change out anyone. Do you give him the chance to bring in his own? Now that's hard to do to go get a assistant coach's midseason. But could you, I could see this. Now I'm playing the, not conspiracy, but geez. I said from the start that Lindy Rupp will move upstairs. Lindy Ruff will move upstairs after he's done coaching this team. I thought it was a two-year window where he was going to come in and actually crack the whip, and he hasn't been able to do that.

I would have expected he would have brought in a bunch of guys under him, as opposed to keeping the guys that he inherited. Staff you're talking about it. Staff, yeah, assistance. I still see that as a possible scenario where he becomes the president. He brings in some guys under him this year, a guy like Michael Pecker, Jay McKee, X Sabres guys.

Now, is that important? Maybe not, but there might be more than one car, you know what I mean? There could be some layers to this that play out. That's the thing. It doesn't feel like Lindy Ruff is fired and leaves the team to me. Because

what were the circumstances upon him coming in? I don't think it was, come in and we're let's make the playoffs. And if not, then you're out of a job. It's just he's, he's got ties to that team. It does feel like. It was the wrong hire.

It was a friend hire. And I don't, but all I'm saying is I don't think that he's just shown the door. If there's a coaching change, he's going upstairs and there's a change of some sort. How much autonomy does kick a line in half here? That's really. I think he's got a ton of autonomy.

And so if he believes roughs the guy, then he's still there. Like, I don't know what you've accomplished. If you know that Lindy's not the guy to get him over the hub and you just leave him for the, years like well we didn't want to do anything mean you see that's the thing that's hard to know

why doesn't lindy have his own staff was he told he couldn't bring them in he chose not to is Kevin Adams this guy does he like the guys that he has I don't I'm that's a million miles away from it but it's hard to think that those guys owner said they're longer as long as as Kevin Adams

those guys were with Don Granato yeah probably Ralph Kruger some of them rest like the there's going to be some sweaty seats. Yeah. Well, Kevin Adams can rest assured knowing he was given a lot of rope. He was, or at least he was there a long time.

This is not a hasty firing. The hockey world has watched that team for a long time and wondered, okay, don't know how you got the job, but be that as it may. The job you've done, it seems not a lot better other than just young drafted players coming in. Cousins, Chicago a couple of years ago that got a run. Former player. Luke Richardson. Yeah.

Like someone like that, second lap, he's seen the young rosters. Again, they might keep, Lindy, and I'm not telling you, I'm an ex and those guy. I just look at a young team with talent playing without structure and work ethic. And I'm like, coaching is a big part of those two things. It's not like they are all uncoachable and they all can't work hard. You just need to push the buttons and give them that structure. and he's never been the, oh, we're playing Lundy Ruff tonight. Get ready for this structure.

You're going off of one guy's opinion that you've heard. And you telling me that it was a friend hired to begin with. Those two things together don't add up to me. And still has a record of success. I mean, it can be more than one thing. It's absolutely more than one thing. It's not like this is a cup winner that's been furthered away. But you just, you keep telling me, you watch them in the D zone.

I'm like, that's coaching. That maybe it's the D-Code. It's the same D-Zone as it was four years ago. much is on Lindy, how much is on the assistant. Either way you do for improvement on the coaching in my, like they need a huska type guy if they want to get that young roster to, like hard work and

structure. Don't really question it from the flames much in the last two and a half years. Cheese. Peck. There's some, and again, I'm always saying savers names that I know. But if I was the owner and I, I would. I would hire Rob Ray as

the president and I would get those two guys. Say, you can come work under Lindy and Lindy when this season's over you could come upstairs and be an assistant GM with me and help me out because you do know the game you've been around the game you're you've great great knowledge you're one of the winningest coaches of all time this is not you don't have to toss him out with the trash yeah and you the one thing you don't have to do with michael and jama key is try to sell them on moving to buffalo yeah and that's going to be a thing if you're talking to torts you're talking to debor or this
