I don't like our chances to resign this player. And I'm not going to pay this. I'm not going to give up these assets. So are we concerned at all about the wellness of the league in that regard? No. So you're okay with the Dodgers? Well, I don't think we have that issue in hockey. The Dodgers payroll would be probably,

eight times the lowest payroll in baseball. And you have a floor in the NHL that probably keeps you within 70%. So not a direct comparison, but halves and have-nots. there's reason to be fearful of it. But I also think that when every team's in a spot to spend, they will. Like, I don't worry about the Buffalo Sabres making the playoffs this year and being like, well, we got to cut some payroll next year. like I think they will then who's a have not if it's not Buffalo well the flames but you're referring to it differently

get Rasmus Anderson because they know they can't compete with Vegas in signing him. If not in general, then certainly it seems like with this player. Yeah, and look, if you traded me, you're going to trade him to Boston. Okay. So anyway, if you're months away from free agency, the player's right is to wait. That point already. You've told us it for over a year. You can't even just say that, yes, it might be a concern or this is the reason.

I mean, you're trying to give it a reason. reasons it's not, but it's not, oh, the right context. I will, which is important. Absolutely, Vegas is the place to be right now. Absolutely, Florida is a place to be right now. Am I worried about that being a long-term thing? No. In the sense that nobody wanted to play in Florida 10 years ago.

Nobody. They couldn't recruit flies. And nothing changed except they started winning and got a competent owner. So that's what every team should try to do. Because there's no way that people are going to sign in Buffalo over Florida, ever. The tax situation will, loan is of enough consequential value that it won't buffalo can't keep up they have to pay significantly more if it's a hundred million dollar cap rasmus anderson has to get 12 in buffalo but what if they're winning that's even if they're winning but i'll throw what about when detroit they got everyone right

Detroit was they were a juggernaut they were winning the hall of famers guys were going there no salary cap yeah and then they paid more we're saying the same thing yeah the rangers used to sign everyone there was no salary cap they were shit I still think number one on every guy's list is winning. So when you're Vegas and you are winning or you're Florida and you are winning or your Dallas, LA is not a good example because it's taxes. Why isn't everyone racing to Edmonton then? Pardon me?

My question at the start was, is this a concern for the league that guys, teams won't even make a trade for a guy because they know they can't sign him because he wants to go to. I don't think that's exactly what happened here. I don't think you get that far down the road negotiating with a player as the only team that has rights to negotiate with him. And then all of a sudden he says,

I'm not going to sign. Like, something happened here. That's the only thing that explains it. Is that not the whole point of what I'm saying? Like they were this close to get, Rasmus signed is kind of my point. I don't think it was impossible for the Bruns. This didn't happen. And Vegas will pay

a higher price for a quote rental because they're confident they're going to sign the guy. I think and then they're out of cap space. I think it's almost the flip side, whereas Vegas knows they don't have to spend as much to trade for guys because they're going to get them anyway. So Rasmus wants 10 from Sweeney and the Bruins and I'll take seven and a half or eight here.

Sounds like it was close at eight times 8.75. So I'd expect the number to be similar in Vegas, maybe a touch less because of the taxes. But like the Vegas gold nights offered the most as a rental to Craig Conroy. That's why he traded in there. So they literally offered more as a rental. And we just talked about why. And again, so the point off the start was that once it became clear that RAS was wasn't signing an extension, teams are like, well, the offers.

I'll give you this. Yeah. But it's not going to be close to what the offer was. a minute ago or probably to what other teams are offering you. So should I hang up the phone now? I guess I'll hang up the phone now. And at the end of the day, even though, because we talked about the other, I just Vegas knows they're going to get the player anyway.

So they don't need to give a ton. It's still a first and a player. Now the player is someone that they signed as a free agent and the incoming player is going to take a spot. So it's not a, it's not like they actually lose much. No, but it doesn't really matter where they got. the guy. Like it's,

the return for Craig is the return. Yeah. First, a second that could become a first in an unlikely scenario that they're the best out of 32 teams this year. You got a prospect that probably plays

programs. We don't know if he gets to the NHL or not. And you got a guy that's a four, five. It's certainly a four for them right now. That's a nice return for a rental. Yeah. It's just not a rental.

It's interesting that because McCriman is so cutthroat, that he gave up a first. Do you know what I mean? It just feels like, Well, I think it becomes too loud to tamper if that's... I'll give you a second that because... And maybe you're right. That would be the sirens for me,

as if it's an underwhelming off for a rental. Like, we typically don't see rental defensemen go for prices like that. That's a really nice return. And again, they're going to resign them. But you'd be hard pressed to find a defenseman that moved in the last year of his deal for more than what the flames just got for Rasmus. Now, the picks are going to be late, but the roster player is a good player. Like, he's playing over 1845 for the nights this year.

That's a good defenseman. Is he a star? Absolutely not. Is he going to stop them from bottoming out a ton? Probably. But if you turned and tried to flip them at the deadline, I think you're getting at least a second for White Cloud. So if you got a first, two seconds,

one can become a first and a B prospect. Like, that's a hell of a haul. Unless things change, I did not get the sense that this is a in, in and out. No, I think they should, but I don't think they will. Yeah, I think White Cloud is going to be here.

Which is crazy because they've got five right shots. and it's like, how are we finding room for Perret? Well, you don't have to move White Cloud, but you've got to move somebody. Yeah, and so maybe you move Pahal for a late pick or whatever, but there's just, I don't really see a pathway for Perretto play anytime soon, and that's going to be a challenge moving forward. Verstavich is steady, and the coach knows what he's getting.

At some point, yeah. Two other righties that are established NHLers. How the hell do you get your top prospect into this league? I would wait. To me, it's, it's, you know, where do you put the cart in front or behind the horse? Get Perrek in, let him play. And when he shows, okay, he's pushing white, whoever, down. I don't want to make the trade to make room and be like, ooh, it's because he might not be ready for another year or more.

Oh, right, he's 19. He can always go pick up. I want him. You go out and prove that you're ready to take someone's job before I just silver platter it. No question. I think this sort of more comes from the perspective, like the team tank fan is like, you got a great chance to get a star player if you're picking in the top three or four of the draft. If this team was committed to that, there's a really easy pathway to doing it. You definitely flip White Cloud. You get more future assets and you start playing the piss out of your kids to figure out what they are and to see where they can have success.

Because if you're asking Zane Precht come in and play third pair of minutes, I don't know that he's going to succeed. but if you're asking him to run PowerPlay 1, I think he can have some success. I think that's what you'll say. Based on what, though, and I'm throwing some cold water on it. I'm of the opinion to play guys to find out. The more they play, the easier it is. Unless they're not capable. Yeah.

And I've said this all along. I would have played them. I would have played him. I would have played him. They're not. They're trying to bring him on. They're smarter than him. This is what they do.

He was getting injured. He was injured. They'd have been playing him if he was healthy. Well, how much? They weren't at the start? Third pair in and out? But the more he would play, you would, that would make itself clear. Let me finish, though, because I'm going to where you were.

I don't think they were playing a baton at the start. And I wonder if they're seeing something that we're not. They clearly do not trust some of the flaws of his game, but they also aren't allowing them to show the strengths of his game. And they also at the start of the year, we're making playoffs. And if you're going to cost. Project 97. Yeah.

So, I mean, last night for Stevin, is playing on the power play. That's great, right? So that's good. Obviously, Perrek would be playing power play if he were still around. I just, I don't know.

I just kind of tend to. I just want to see it until we see it. I don't believe that. But he hasn't been healthy. Well, he has a time. And they didn't do it. How many games?

I don't want to do this again. But it's so, how many minutes do you think he's averaging? He's hardly, it's not a big enough sample size to judge utilization. I actually don't think you guys are arguing. You're arguing just to argue. He hasn't played.

He hasn't played. And he has. being injured. So it's fine. But has he played good enough even when he has played the little bit that he has to say, I have to play. It's all of the above. He's not where you hope him to be. and he hasn't been given an opportunity. And he's had injuries. And as a 19 year old, it's going to take you time to get into the league and get comfortable and it down. He might be a 22 year old before he starts to. He might be. And that is that is the profile of very, very high end offensive defensemen that aren't great defensively.

They take quite a bit longer than the well-rounded D for obvious reasons. It's tough for coaches to put them out, which is why you wish this organization would have the foresight to lift the white flag and actually say, look, like if we're bad for this year, it's only going to help us long term. And you'll learn more about this kid rather than wonder. What would it look like?

You move White Cloud. You definitely move Coleman. You take calls on cadre. You get rid of a winger or two. Just in terms of correct. That's all we were talking about. Slot him into the top four. Give them an NHL caliber partner.

He hasn't had that all year. He's never played with Weger. He's going to be 15 to 20 minutes tonight on the power play. That's what it is. Yeah. And give him a partner that's a top four defenseman. Yeah. Not a waiver claim.

Like you've only played him with waiver claims. It's been like Bean, Hanley. Bean. And Pahal have been his partners. Like, what are you trying to turn him into? Yeah. No,

I understand. Look, I do believe it's everything. I think that you know. And I agree with what you're saying. Like he hasn't really given them this. this long stretch where they've been able to work him in, I just worry about a pathway because I think they're going to trust

the steadiness of Bristewitch more than him. And as long as Husk is trying to get in the playoffs, which is his job? He's not. How are you going to get him in? He's going to coach to win because that's what a coach has to do. I don't think he's reality. And I think that's part of,

I think that's part of what you saw with the, why does Anderson get traded right now? It's like, well, the coach is just like, If guys are here, I'm going to play them. If they're at practice, they're at morning skate, I'm building my roster. And I think that the discussion was had internally. Okay, well, there's no extension.

So Boston is like all these other things. Do we just now go back to work and status quo? Because the injury concerns are still there. It was already, well, should Rasmus be playing against the islanders? When do you start sitting this guy? Even the Chicago finale of the roadship? You're already in that. Yeah.

He's healthy. He's played. Unbelievable. Just, just get them out of here. Just make, what's the most we can get? Get it done. So,

um, and I, the only reason I'm leaning into the preck chat is, uh, Bobby Germany and Michael is had a great nine minutes on like, is the foundation, sorry, Kent,

Like, I'm not trying to be cheeky or anything like that. I'm just, I'm literally think this is the most important player they have in their system right now. And how have they mistreated him? Well, I'm not saying they have or haven't. I'm just trying to find the path for him to getting, Get healthy and play better. It's clear and simple for every player that ever wants to play. Right.

So let's just look through the past. I'm not trying to fight. I'm presenting facts here. He has an excellent world juniors. He gets dinged up in it at the end. Just let me finish. Why can't I have a comment? But I'm just,

I want you to react to this once it's all there, not halfway through. He goes on the five game, Rody. They get home. He's healthy enough to play. And coming off an excellent world. juniors for what he's great at. Do they play him in the NHL or do they immediately sign him to the A?

His first games are in the A. This was a great chance to get him into the lineup. But you have, well, whoa, whoa, whoa. So two things. He did put up a bunch of points. And I thought I took a shot at him because I thought it showed what he is in that goal, empty net goal. Here's a kid that is a stud offensively that isn't in it to win it.

That was a bullshit play at the end. end of that game. It didn't matter. Probably didn't change the outcome. But if you're a, you think Jerome Ginnler would let that guy score? Jerome Ginella would shoot his leg off. Yeah.

No, he's not your own. I get it. So, well, that matters. It's, it's not just, hey, I've got the puck and I'll piss around and do whatever I want and

score a few, like you want guys that want to win. There's a character test too. And I don't think that that was a good sign of. I agree with that. And so then he, then you're saying they didn't play him right away. I thought he was injured.

So when he missed five games in a row, that opened the conditioning. I understand, but he left the world juniors injured. Right. And so now that he's healthy, where is he playing? Yes, but that's because they probably were already four games in. That's the choice they made. But they were four games into sitting him. They're saying, we can sit you one more to finally, instead of doing five games further down the road.

Yeah. And I mean, five games further down the road might put you into that Olympic window, which would be some benefits from. Maybe they want them to reset and get. away from hockey. Maybe they want them in the gym that whole time. I don't know. I'm just curious what the plan is. It's not your business to know what the plan is. It's their business. No, and they don't have to tell me. I'm just curious. Like, if you're a fan of this team and you said, like, who are some of the most important pieces for the next 10 years? Like, Zane Prex is going to be

very high in that list, if not the top for most people, because he's young and he's an extremely high skilled player. And so, you know, I'm not saying, ooh, they put him in the A, look, they hate him. No, but they could have played him in the NHL at that point. What is it? And I'm just curious because I try and speak your language and we've worked together a long time and generally it feels

like you're a huge proponent of the American hockey league and letting them cook and letting your prospects come along. But you are the end, you're the complete opposite with this guy. You want him in, you want him power play, you want him big minutes, you want him and like, no, you only have. He's played,

let me finish. He's played 11 fucking games. Yeah. And has been injured and has been, he's proven to be putting himself in harm's way. Yeah. At what point do you look at it and say, okay,

well, we need to be smart with this player. Let's send it with, it's a condition extent. Send it to the American hockey league, which generally, that's a great move. That would be a smart thing.

He's 19. He's a kid. Send him there. It just feels like with this guy. It's backwards for me. It's backwards for you. And you're taking this, usually it's big picture to look at 11 games. They haven't done this.

And the coaches, like, holy cow. So you have one conditioning stint. You have one bullet to use. They've used it now. That's the only different part. Because if he had the ability to play in the American League all year, I'd be thrilled with that. Why would you need to keep it? But why is this a slight?

The bullet. Why would you need to keep his conditioning? This is why I personally am curious of what the plan is when this conditioning is done. What do you think it would be? Well, I hope it's not in the rafters more than playing. That's my concern. That will be dictated by his ability to perform. Yeah, in the system that, yeah.

What do you mean? Yeah, you can't just throw a kid to the, I'm, but you know how I feel. Dougie Hamilton came here and I'm like, why end up, would you trade for this guy and play him 14 minutes? It's stupid. Play them, play, I'm all for play. Yeah. But I'm also for.

And his play was also indicative of a guy that needed more minutes When Dougie came in and this is that's just that's the point I'm saying is yes you have to be good enough to play You have to earn it too you can't if he's if he's down at the dome moping around pouten I have no clue But I may play them but he's got to be able to do it and that's what I keep saying is They see more they see practice habits they see attitude they there's something that is saying, and at the start of the year, they're thinking playoffs.

So he's been gone for it feels like two months. His last game was November 7th, and he played all of his games this year, minus two in the month of October when they were the worst team in the league. But they still felt that they were going to be a playoff team. That's on them. They should wear that hat.

That is a mistake, and you should have played them more than.
