Starting point is 00:03:36 1 tbc 1 tbc 1 tbc 1 tbc 1 tbc 1 tbc 1 tbc Hey, what's going on? It's Quinn David Fernos. Welcome to my show, Quinn David Fernos Presents, The Bean Town Podcast for Friday, July 1st, 2022. What's going on, how are you?
Starting point is 00:04:12 We're live streaming Instagram, and we are live streaming our podcast and trying to get all. Our chords disassemble them such. What's happening, my name is Quinn, and this is my show. Thank you for tuning in. To another installment of the Bean Town podcast. That was of course, stars and stripes forever played for the first time on a very irritating, almost mosquito-like electric piano, which is pretty exciting for the fans out there sorry for watching instagram you got nauseous
Starting point is 00:04:48 uh... you can follow us on instagram i'm at q dot dot queen d some mouthful uh... q dot queen d you can uh... email the show being done podcast yaku dot com you can check out all the latest ups and being down but being done podcast dot com don't forget to check out the beantown blog. So what's going on? How is everybody?
Starting point is 00:05:08 I don't know why my Instagram looks so dark. Geez, let's turn off the brightness a little bit here. It says paused. That's not what I wanted. I just want the fans to be able to consume. I want them to be able to invite happy Fourth of July, happy Independence Day, everyone. What's going on? Hello to my friends to consume. I want them to be able to and buy happy Fourth of July, happy Independence Day everyone. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:05:26 Hello to my friends in Pakistan. It is not in Independence Day for you all. I know, you know, everyone, look, everyone in Pakistan is going to listen to this episode. They're going to be rolling their eyes this whole time because I'm going to be gluten about my three day weekend, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,
Starting point is 00:05:45 and all those poor bastards over there about my three-day weekend, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and all those poor bastards over there in the mid-east, if you will. Packy stand doesn't like to be referred to as the Middle East. But it's not really central Asia. It's kind of its own thing, you know, it's not India. What would you call Bangladesh? Do you call Bangladesh Southeast Asia? We ought to get a, you know, we're bump on my foot.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Where did that come from? You know, like a bloody scam. It's small but powerful. Yeah, the, the, the Pakistanis are going to be upset this whole time. So I'll try not to rub it in too much, but hello to my friends, HydraBad, hello to my friends, Karachi, hello to my friends in the Kiber Pass. If you're listening to this,
Starting point is 00:06:32 congratulations on your cell service. My name is Quinn, this is my show. We are one of the top 500 shows on the north side of Chicago. And although this podcast, a low-oh, let's see what am I trying to say here? A listener discretion is advised when you're listening to these podcasts, this patriotic themed podcast.
Starting point is 00:06:51 One, this podcast, one will actually use some language while I'm off my game. I was really, really zoned in, really focused on the Sousa. I'd practice it like three times this morning just to try to make sure that I remembered how it actually went. I need to cut my fingernails. I'm a wreck over here.
Starting point is 00:07:09 And then, you know, number two, podcast is objectively terrible. And we'll use some language. Yada, yada, yada. The bean heads out there, they get it. They know how it goes. But the point I was trying to make here is, I don't know, this, the back half of this week has been weird. I took a nap yesterday for about 45 minutes.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Just because I was just working from home, I was in the office on Wednesday, and then yesterday, I was just kind of like, man, I don't know, I just need to take a nap. And I did, and then I went for a run. It was 92 degrees outside, it was miserable. But that just tells you how hard it is for me and my body and my mind to wake up to run at.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Not egregious times, we're talking like 6am. It is such a struggle for me. I will literally just be like just not at all interested in running that early in the morning. And it'll be so hot in the afternoon, and I'll just be like, nope, can't do it. It doesn't work for me. So I go out there, it's 4.30 in the afternoon, 4 in the afternoon,
Starting point is 00:08:21 blazing heat. Hadest part of the day almost run for miles and I'm just feeling miserable, but honestly, I don't know what it is about my body. When I try to run in the morning, I feel like the Tin Man should find a way to do a Tin Man, to do a Wizard of Oz themed Bingtown podcast episode.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I think we're 240 episodes in or something. I think we've earned that right. Hey, I hope wherever you're listening from, you're having a cold bev courtesy of the Bingtown podcast. Not that we would ever sponsor your cool bev, but I don't know, maybe we could get Bingtown Brew going. Pencil, stick that in the big ideas folder. We haven't had a big ideas podcast in a while.
Starting point is 00:09:05 I think we need to add that to that. I'm drinking from my Jack links cup courtesy of Uncle Andy and Jack links. Thank you to a good friend of the podcast Uncle Andy Denison for the cup. Haven't whipped it out in the new apartment yet, but it's exciting. I got new neighbors today. It's the first of July. It's a Friday and new people just moved in across the hall more or less, and we share the same kind of back patio space. So I didn't go chat with them. I didn't want to talk to them or anything
Starting point is 00:09:37 because they're moving and lifting heavy stuff, but it's exciting. It's the start of a potentially contentious relationship or we could be best friends. And it's really, when you're talking about neighbors, those are really the only two options. We spoke frequently about neighbors when I lived in Rodgers Park. We would talk about Richard. He was the guy who was a lawyer. He lived above
Starting point is 00:10:06 me in one unit over. And he had these two golden doodles. And man, they were always just uh, uh, Maggie and George, they were terrible. He would just sit, go sit out on the stoop in front. And then yeah, it is classic jack links. You're right. Thanks for tuning in. Good to see you. If you're, if you're looking for anything substantive, we're talking Instagram here. I am really sorry. You're going to be disappointed. If you're looking for anything substantive, we're talking Instagram here, I am really sorry. You're gonna be disappointed because I was thinking about doing, honestly, I was feeling pretty good.
Starting point is 00:10:33 I was feeling pretty comfortable about what we were gonna do on the show. Last year for the Fourth of July, especially we did our salute to nationalism. And at the start of this week, I was still fired up about the Roe v. Wade stuff and not that I'm not, but I was thinking, or not that I'm not now, but I was thinking, let's do the top five worst Supreme Court decisions of all time.
Starting point is 00:10:54 But then I was like, this is a comedy show. No one tunes in to talk about terrible Supreme Court decisions. That's just kind of depressing. Okay, we want to celebrate We want to do fireworks. I should have done a fireworks live on here But I have to go to Indiana to get them. So I'm really striking out here Then I thought oh Well, let's do something you know cuz I so I played if you missed it on Instagram You can go back and watch them sure either now or this is over
Starting point is 00:11:21 I don't know if you ever wanted to hear like a very haunting sure either now or this is over. I don't know if you ever wanted to hear like a very haunting, demented version of Stars and Stripes Forever with an electric piano, but played in a high register so that it sounds like a toy piano almost. Like one of those music boxes,
Starting point is 00:11:35 you open up, you got the little ballerine and dancing around, except she would, you know, remember when Trump would have those rallies and you have like the Trump girls, they would be like 12-year-old girls, and they would come out and dance. There's a song, and I know how it goes,
Starting point is 00:11:49 and I don't particularly want to sing it for a variety of reasons. Also, I don't know the words. But that's basically what it is, tiny dancer style, Halton John. So then I was thinking, hey, let's do a deep dive into John Phillips, Sousa, or at least military marches. And then I was like, hey, let's do a deep dive into John Philip Sousa or at least military marches.
Starting point is 00:12:07 And then I was like, no one wants to sit here and listen to me read a Wikipedia article about John Philip Sousa. I even listened to an hour worth of John Philip Sousa marches while I was working yesterday to try to get inspiration. Think maybe we'll take the podcast in this direction. Maybe we'll do this. Maybe we'll do that. And then I was just like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:12:29 Like that's not, I don't know. There's nothing there for me. The musicologist in me is fascinated by that stuff. But everyone else listening, all 17 and a half of our fans, I don't think would be that interested. So kind of struck out in that. And so basically where we ended up for the show for today was that I would open with stars and stripes forever with a fun twist.
Starting point is 00:12:54 And then I would close with another susomarch, which is the plan. We're going to we went piano couch. We're going back to the piano and, you know, at least less than two hours here. I don't plan to stream for any longer than that You know, it's it's gonna be like Five more minutes the way that this is going got total writers block total podcasters block So you know what let's just use let's use this time to give thanks I know our Thanksgiving special is still Four and a half months away. Can you believe it's July 1st though? Boom, the year is halfway over.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I don't know about you, but I I don't necessarily feel like Christmas and winter in the holidays just happened but I definitely feel like it's a little spooky that we're coming up on that stuff. I mean you look at my my year I mean I've got July is gonna be fun. July is gonna be good. Work is not, works busy, but not as crazy as June. In fact, July is honestly like outside of December, probably like my lightest month. But then you get to August.
Starting point is 00:13:58 August gets busy for me. I got two weeks in the beginning, and then I got, you know, whole orientation thing in my job that I help run. I have, then after that, we're going to Hawaii, which is awesome. And that's, that actually reminds me. Let's stick a fork in my coin's timeline, which everyone tuned in to listen to. I need to jump, I need to start figuring out, I need to start planning ahead, which is something I do a lot of on the bean-town podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:25 How do I want to do my 50 state power rankings and who here from Puerto Rico is going to start bitching because they weren't included on the list. I guess we'll do an honorable mention. Okay, either become a state or don't, you know, but stop waffling. WAFFLING. And speaking of waffling, we're going to stick a fork in the state's conversation. Rachel was, you know, was over, well, this is her apartment too. But she mentioned, hey, I, you know, I had said something about like, you know, I never
Starting point is 00:14:55 bought flour or sugar, which is true, when I lived on diversity in Lincoln Park. And subsequently or consequently consequently I never made pancakes Waffles, though they don't have a waffle maker never made pancakes or crepes C-R-E-P-E-S with you know all those French people are they probably put a little like Line over one of the peas or something because they got to be cool I never made that when I lived there for a full year. So I was like, you know what? We're gonna change that we're gonna change that. We're gonna get unhealthy.
Starting point is 00:15:26 We're gonna butter them up and a throwing an extra egg to make it frothy. And so I went to the grocery store. This was actually, gosh, what was that? It was like Monday or Tuesday morning. Working from home, it's easier to just wake up and be like, I still have two hours if we really need to sit in front of my computer all day.
Starting point is 00:15:47 So I'm like, you know, let's go for a walk. And if I'm going to go for a walk in my ass, we'll hit jewel. So I got some flower, I got some sugar, got some eggs. And we'll be locked and loaded next time we need to make some pancakes, which is exciting. But the state's conversation, which is exciting. But the state's conversation, you know, I had started to formulate a plan
Starting point is 00:16:10 to powering all 50 US states, which in many back in 2020, to finish that thought, because I was going to go to Hawaii in 2020, which would have been really interesting, you know, like if COVID had never happened, one life would be completely different obviously But I had I had planned to go to to Hawaii by myself in April of 2020 Rachel. I started dating in February of 2020 so April 2020 you know we were
Starting point is 00:16:35 Together but not you know terribly serious at that point So it's not like oh you're leaving Rachel behind you know been a month and a half but I'm kind of curious, what would my trip have been like if I had gone to Hawaii solo? It'll probably never happen because, and that's fine, that's not a bad thing. I'm like, I don't think I ever want to go to go all that way by myself now. Like now that I have a partner and, you know, before too long probably have a family, like that doesn't sound interesting to fly that far just to hang out by myself.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But it would have been interesting. It probably would have done, you know, not a beach guy. So I would have gone to the beach at least once. But honestly, it probably would have been like, for 90 minutes, then I would have been like, I'm hot. I'm sticky. I'm sandy. Let's go take a shower. It would have been like, I'm hot. I'm sticky. I'm sandy. Let's go take a shower. It
Starting point is 00:17:26 would have been a lot of hiking. And it would have been just like a lot of drinking probably, which is not a bad way to spend a week. Anyways, we're going in August. It's going to be good. I'm still going to do some hiking, but there'll be some more beach time. There'll be some more my ties. I'm gonna be the poi boy still. Boy, if you're not watching on Instagram, you can probably watch this video afterwards. I think that's how live videos work.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Doesn't this beautiful live on air being taught podcast sign from the Rainbows family? Doesn't it look beautiful in here? It's kind of backwards. You need like the, you know, ambulance sing where it's mirrored so you can actually tell what it's saying. But that's a me problem.
Starting point is 00:18:10 That's not a you problem. Well, it's actually a you problem. But I guess what happens if I, does that work? Wait, I just figured out how mirrors work. If you're missing this on Instagram, you are missing groundbreaking technology, my friends. So every time I've streamed and I've used my live on AirBenton podcasts, Neon Sign, I've held it up, but looks to be normal for me and then it's backwards for you all watching on camera. I just realized, what if you flip it around? Boom, that's something that I didn't learn in AP Physics.
Starting point is 00:18:47 It reads normal for you, and I don't even care, because I know what it says, but now you can read it. Left to right, right to left, okay? It's beautiful. You're welcome. We are solving centuries old man's biggest questions here in the bean-town podcast, which would be a much better topic for today's show
Starting point is 00:19:11 than what I failed to come up with. But yeah, we're gonna do a 50 states power ranking. I'll give you a little teaser. I wasn't prepared to talk about this at all. I'll give you a little teaser, and here's our call to action in the week for the Bean Tom Podcast for the Bean Heads. Email us, Bean Tom Podcasts, yahu.com, tweet at the show at Bean Tom Podcasts, at Mia, I'm at White Buns with a Z.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Follow us on Instagram to watch the live stream. Thanks to those who have tuned in. Appreciate you, thanks for being here. We're not gonna be long, I promise. We played a little susat at the beginning, we're chatting a little bit, then we're gonna finish with some susa No one wants to spend an hour of their fourth of July weekend listening to the bean-ton podcast
Starting point is 00:19:50 So let's keep it to like 25 30 minutes, okay? We're already at we're already at 20 so I'm almost I'm almost ready to wrap it up But I'll give you a little teaser and oh what I wanted to say is bean-town podcasts call the action of the week. Email me. You can either email me one of your favorite states, one of your least favorite states. You can try to predict what we're going to do on the show. So that could be fun, you know, predicting quins one through 50. And no, we're not including Puerto Rico.
Starting point is 00:20:22 No, we're not including Guam, Washington DC can hit the showers. If you guys want to get in on the action, then file a paperwork. Okay, that's all I'm going to say. But let's just make one thing clear. In the bottom 10, you're going to see a lot of southern states. And I know the South is easy to rag on. And no, it's not a racial thing, it's not a literacy thing, it's just they're terrible. I have a friend who's going to Arkansas for her partner's
Starting point is 00:20:54 family reunion next month and I feel nothing but pity and sorrow. I mean, can you imagine going to Arkansas just in your life? I can because I've done it. And it's terrible. There's a lot of, it's like the south, but also the Ozarks. And that's kind of a terrible combination. The one thing I'll say, prices are cheaper, which is good, you can go to a gas station, and you could probably get a 36 rack of nadi light for $9.99. You could go on the Ozark walking tour and see the sights
Starting point is 00:21:44 and sounds where they shot, although they didn't actually shoot it in Arkansas or Missouri. But just, you know, look, I'm not shy. States like Arkansas, Alabama, which we've spent a whole podcast episode, shitting on Alabama. Louisiana. And this is going to be interesting. States like Texas and Florida, which are big players in the just national conversation, they are making a strong case to be bottom 10.
Starting point is 00:22:15 You never thought, if you're in Texas, you never thought you'd get compared dark and saw, but here we are. Then you're going to have some of those more mid-range players. Where does Quinn Reyna state like Wisconsin? A lot of history there, a lot of family memes. It also got a whole bunch of problems home to Scott Walker, Ron Johnson, Paul Ryan, the Symphony Orchestra that fired me. I mean, lot of a lot of things to consider Where are we gonna place a state like Nevada?
Starting point is 00:22:49 I don't know why I said it that way Nevada Where it's like there's some cool stuff going on there, but also there's nothing going on there You know and then you're gonna have the the top players, okay? Tell the rain most family to cover their ears because Rachel thinks I'm crazy. Minnesota, put it, you know, pencil that one in for your top 15 at least. Vermont, maple syrup, Bernie Sanders, Burlington, camel's hump. It's a great place. French radio near Montreal, okay? So there is going to be be a lot of I think there's gonna be some surprises. We're gonna see where the chips fall. And that's gonna be coming up, but I gotta get started on that. I mean, we're going in like six weeks or something like that.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Seven weeks, I think we leave seven weeks from Monday, I think is how it shakes out. So, should be exciting. Last piece of business, because I promised you I wasn't going to go too long, I'm a man of my word. Do you take tax rates into account? I wasn't thinking that, thank you to the Instagram commenter, but I certainly think we should and if you don't know if it's from Illinois listeners Illinois has temporarily as of today Suspended grocery tax and maybe fuel tax too. I'm not sure and I don't really know What that means over how long it lasts See I never took a
Starting point is 00:24:21 Business class. I took a micro economics at rock Valley College when I was 16, and that's really the extent of my economical knowledge. But yeah, there's a lot that we could take into account, and I'm sure for some states we'll take it into account to bolster my argument and for other states we'll ignore it, to also bolster my argument. for other states will ignore it, to also bolster my argument. And that's just, it's my show, you know? And I run the ship how I want to run it. And I'm not gonna apologize, but sorry if I did defend anyone.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Okay, we're gonna go back to the piano. That's it. I mean, if you're tuning into the show, you're thinking, okay, there's all been intro. When is he gonna actually get to the episode? Sometime, you know what, I can't stand up here for 90 minutes every show and come up with completely new material,
Starting point is 00:25:15 the best joke tellers in the world, the best podcasters, the best comedians, they don't have new material every single week. Sometimes they just show up like me. You know what? It's not sometimes they show up every damn week they show up since January of 2018. Year five, I think this is absolutely like 236 or something like that. I come to you live every time. I'm here, never miss a show. No guest host, no Jimmy Kimmel. Oh, let's have Chelsea Handler sub for us.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Sean Hayes. Nope. Not a thing, not when I sprained my finger, not when Trump was running for president, not when the lightning won a second World Cup, not when there was a tornado, World Cup, Stanley Cup, not when there was a tornado in Rogers Park, no. I keep it coming. I come at you fast, I come at you hard, and I'm unapologetic.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I'm a bulldog like that. So, I'm moving a polygetic. I'm a bulldog like that. So I'm moving back to the piano. Thank you for listening. If you wanted to watch a really underwhelming live stream, you can go to my Instagram, at q.coindee, and you really didn't miss much, except for that light bulb moment where I figured out that
Starting point is 00:26:46 if I flipped over the Bington podcast neon sign that it would actually be backwards from you but frontways for you. So if you're just tuning into the Instagram stream now we opened up with stars and stripes forever by John Phillips, so we're in a close at the Washington Post March and the twists is that we're doing it with like a toy piano, electric piano kind of sound. And this is one that I rehearsed once this morning. So we're going to just see how it goes. So thanks everyone for listening. That's going to be the end of the show after we play our music here. I appreciate you. And I promise we're gonna get into that state's power
Starting point is 00:27:26 ranking pretty soon here. It's gonna be multi episodes, that sort of thing. So that should be exciting for the America heads out there. Okay, that's what I got for you. Everyone, stay safe, stay sane. And here's some music to play us out. music to play us out. I can remember how it starts little bit of the same thing.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I'm going to do a little bit of the same thing. I'm going to do a little bit of the same thing. I'm going to do a little bit of the same thing. I'm going to do a little bit of the same thing. ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ ʻ‿ʻ
