They would run a commercial from about early May through, basically the month of May, when high school graduation was happening and they had a song. I don't know what it was called but I could probably I could probably sing it with the outro music or when the intro music

is done well we'll circle back to that it's a great song and basically it was there were like five different commercials they're all exactly the same the only difference is it was basically like a slideshow made on Microsoft PowerPoint you know to highlight different graduates From across the state line. I don't know how they chose which graduates got highlighted for that It was some like interns project or something to contact all these 18 year olds and be like, hey, can we use Your photo your name image likeness NIL For this cool slideshow commercial. I don't know, I

never got on it, but oh well. Probably because when I was a senior in high school, my private Christian high school had me labeled as a junior and my lockers, not that I, my locker, not that I used my locker all that frequently, but it was amongst the juniors, which was just kind of bizarre. It added to my feeling of isolation, because when I was a junior, I'd mostly hung out with the seniors. And so then when I got to be a senior,

I mostly was stuck with the juniors. I never really knew my classmates. I knew like three people in my graduating class. That's how life goes. Same kind of thing happened in college. Who knows? And then, of course, a good shout out to my dad, Steve Furness.

As I was preparing for this show, which I prepared very little, I literally go to YouTube on my phone, type in the title of the song, which is called In Bunches, and then Quin Furnace. So pretty clear, right?

There's not a lot of other Quin Furnaces out there. There's not a lot of Quin Furnaces who have recently uploaded a Father's Day tribute song, as we do every year. And it still didn't show up. I had to go to my channel and find it. I don't know if it's because when I uploaded it, it was originally unlisted.

And then I switched it to public on Wednesday of this past week. But just frustrating. No one's going to be able to hear my beautiful angelic harmonies. So let's do that in a second. If you're curious, the song, or let's say this, listener discretion is advised when you're listening to the Bean Town podcast.

Number one, we'll cage in some language. Number two, the podcast is objectively terrible. So the song that WREX, which was our NBC affiliate, would play, I want to know who actually originally recorded this, because maybe I could do a sick cover next year for graduation. Something along the lines of, A special time for family, a special time for friends. Graduation's here at last.

Now the chapter ends. You're at the top of your class. The future waits for you. And if you're visualizing it, that was a whole commercial. They just played that song, I assume it was a 30-second spot. And it would just be like a blue background with like five-second snippets of senior photos being thrown across the screen to be like Quinn Furness from Hallstrom

homeschool workshops if I ever got that glorious recognition but I never did 11 years later still a little salty slightly salty that could be a good horse name Belmont Stakes were last weekend. I watched it. What was the name of the guy who won? It was Ivan Zaho, something like that. Belmont Stakes winner. You know, we're big on horse names until the Kentucky Derby, and then I'll be honest, it kind of drops off for me here. I still try to catch the preakness in the Belmont Stakes, sometimes live, sometimes after the fact. This year, the winner of the Belmont Stakes was, you know, this is so door knock.

That's what it was. I type in Belmont Stakes winner into Google, and I just scroll like halfway down the page just to see, hey, who won the Belmont Stakes this year? Door knock, D-O-R-N-O-C-H was the answer. So let's not bury the lead anymore. Every year on Father's Day, and this is going to be a little bit of a scattered episode, we're going to do this Father's Day song, which

is a hit, a certified banger. And then I want to talk Dune and Dune II a little bit, because we did a whole episode dedicated to Dune and predicting the plot two months ago. And Rachel and I actually watched it this past weekend, both of them. It was a double header, Friday night and Sunday night, which is a lot. I mean, that's like five, five and a half hours of doonage. So we'll share my thoughts. What I meant to do this week

to prepare for the show was to go back and listen to that episode and then see how I did, which would make this episode on my projections, which would make this episode on my projections, which would make this episode much more rich and enchanting even. But I didn't do that. So we're not even going to be able to compare and contrast. We're just going to have to share my notes. And then I have a long flight to the West Coast tomorrow.

So the plan is to stock up on some podcasts, including our old Dune predictions episode to see how we fared. And again, as a reminder, I had never read Dune or seen it or really have any idea of what was going on with it other than the basic premise and the cast in Dunevo Nuff's most recent films. And so I basically predicted the plot of Dune 2 based off of my predictions for Dune 1. It wasn't even like I saw Dune 1 and then predicted what would happen in the sequel. It was like I had to predict both. So it was kind of messy.

But we'll share thoughts on that. And then I've got a communal trivia game that we're going to play together. Usually on the Bean Tom Podcast, I do my research. I come in. I've got a trivia question. But what we're going to do today is I was thinking about this game yesterday. I don't know what triggered it. But there's a great Sporkle game that we'll play together that gives you the 50 states. And you have to go one by one from alternating between top 25 and bottom 25, or top 50%, bottom 50% in terms of population.

So the way that works, we'll explain it. But basically, you click a state that's in the top half, then the states in the bottom half. So as you can imagine, the first half of that game is pretty easy. But then once you get to the Utahs or Louisiana's of the world, it gets a little tricky. So we're going to see how far I'm able to go.

I'll walk you through it together. We'll play untimed. And then if you want to play on your own and try to beat me, because I think I'm probably predicting that I can get between 30 and 35 states, which might not sound like a lot. But man, once you get to those states that are in the 20 to 30 range, it's really tricky. So I'm going to do my best.

So Father's Day is this upcoming Sunday, two days from now. And as is tradition here in the Bean Town podcast, we like to write a new song and release it to the public. It's partially attributed to my dad, it's partially attributed to all the dads out there, the concept of dads, fathers, padres. Not the cheater Fernando Tatis Jr., who I like to boo when I see him play, but all other dads really. And we've been able to keep up with it fairly consistently. This is year seven of the Beantown podcast. We definitely missed at least one year, maybe two. So we have like five songs out there, maybe six.

If you're wondering if you've forgotten what some of our other songs in the past have been, and maybe you wanted to go back and listen, well, I got good news. Good news and bad news for you. Some of the songs are standalone singles on my YouTube channel that you can go check out. Some of them even have sweet remixes

that we debuted on the Pledge Drive Telethon fundraiser this past year. And then some of them are just baked right into the episode in which I released them, and I never came out with a standalone single, which makes it a lot tougher to find, obviously. But some of the ones we've had in the past last year is our biggest kind of a breakthrough hit, Daddy Long Legs.

And the original artwork by yours truly was fascinating. And then, of course, we had the killer Rachel-inspired remix, Daddy Long Legs 2.0, which is a certified banger. We might play it at the wedding. We haven't really decided yet. Going back, let's see. What else did I have? Because I'm pretty sure there were, oh, man,

I was going to say, I'm pretty sure I have other standalone singles on here. Not the case. Let's see, back in 2020, we had a song called Cornbread Muffins. That was my Randy Newman parody. The thumbnail is a great picture of my dad from probably 15 years ago or so holding up

a yellow Minnesota Golden Gophers sweater. And it's just a very kind of half smile. It's a candid picture. So let's see, we might have dropped the ball in 2021 and 2022. That might have been how it went, but I'm not going to go back through all this stuff there. We try to release a new Father's Day song each year, and it's a lot of fun. So first, Trump is back, right? He's out of court, for

the time being at least, and he's on the campaign trail. And we're like a week late on this. I think it was like last Sunday or Monday when he did this. It was absolutely insane. But I don't even know where the speech was. You've probably all seen the sound bite by now or heard it. If not, you got to go listen to it. Basically, Trump, I don't know if this was another teleprompter issue or what it was, but he really got going talking about electric boats and manufacturing and how he was talking to boat manufacturers

about how Joe Biden's electric energy policies are gonna cause some issues. Specifically, if you're on an electric boat surrounded by sharks in the open ocean, what happens if your boat sinks? You got to choose between getting electrocuted or jumping off into shark-infested waters. And if, yeah, it does sound crazy and it's exactly what happened and he went on for like two solid minutes about this. And the best part was looking at the people behind him, all his zealots, all his enthused MAGA supporters, some of which were just really starting to, I don't know if they, you know, it was too hot, maybe getting some heat stroke or heat exhaustion at the very least, but they were starting to look a little bit wary of where the speech was going. So electric, electric sharks, watch out. Well, the sharks weren't electric, but if your boat sinks,

they could be, which would be pretty cool. That could be the new sharknado thing, right? First you had electric eels, now you got electric sharks. And then the other great clip, a big pre-Juneteenth celebration. I don't know if this was at the White House or if he had to travel for it. But Kirk Franklin, who if you don't know is a big name in gospel music, doing a concert for the president, his cabinet, Kamala's there. And again, you've probably seen this clip by now,

but Joe Biden, well, Kirk Franklin, I think he's playing smile. It's a total banger. And everyone, Joe Biden's surrounded by like 20 black people, and they're all getting down with it. And Joe Biden is just kind of standing there, unsure what to do. And you know what?

Everyone's making fun of Joe, but I'm going to take a moment to stand up for the president here because as someone who has played my fair share of gospel music and has played in black churches and with black groups, you know, in college, it's, you know, you want to get funky, you want to get down with it, but then you're also like the only white person there and you're like, if I get too down with this, is it cultural appropriation? So you got to be careful.

So I think Joe did the right thing just kind of standing still. And hey, if there's any way to lose the black vote, it's pandering. And so I don't think Joe's really pandering by just standing there listening to Kirk Franklin. So good for him. I feel like that's a best possible outcome for him.

So we'll see what that does for the black vote for Joe. I feel like he's probably got to have that locked down fairly well, right? Without having looked at any of the 529 polling myself, I just, yeah, I don't know. Unless they really hate electric yeah, I don't know. Unless they really hate electric boats. I don't know. How does the black vote feel about electric boats?

I don't even remember what her name was. But she was way too into it. And then Scar Joe parodied it on SNL and absolutely nailed it.

And I don't know, they probably didn't even put the Jesus words in red, which is my favorite part of the Bible. I love, it's nothing worse than a black and white Bible. Am I right, guys? You spend all that time getting through the minor prophets, the major prophets, the Samsons, the Samsonites, the Philistines,

the Philippines, the Philippians. And then finally, it's like, OK, we get some color in here, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Best part of the Bible. Only other thing I wanted to mention before we play our trivia game together was Dune. And so we watched Dune, Dune 1 from, you know, four years ago or whatever, Friday night, and then Dune 2, which came out just this year on Sunday night. And I have never read the source material before. I've never read the original Dune. I've never read any of the spin-offs, or not spin-offs, but sequels. So I'm only aware of Dune from what

I have seen on social media, or people talking about the movies. I've never actually sat down and checked out the source material. So Rachel and I had been wanting to watch it just because it's a pretty legit big sci-fi movie that's up there, just in terms of sci-fi with the Star Wars or the world or Harry Potter's Lord of the Rings, which isn't sci-fi.

It's fantasy. But just big time, big production type movies with huge cast. It's like, OK, we've got to check this out. We've got to be in the know on this. And I feel like some of my predictions were right. I'm almost positive I predicted Oscar Isaac was going to die at the end of the first one.

Also, spoilers for you here. I'm trying to remember what else I predicted, though. This is where it would have been nice to actually review my podcast before listening to this. But my overall review, I give Doom, let's just package them together. I'm going to give it like a, I give Doom, let's just package them together. I'm gonna give it like three stars out of four. It's one of those things where, you know, especially with Denis Villeneuve, you know

that seeing it in theaters is gonna be a way better experience because of the visuals and the audio. And so when you're watching it at home on your old TV with an iffy sound situation, you just kind of miss out on those things. I would say the toughest thing for me is to be expected about these films, but because you're trying to cram this gigantic book into two films, they really have to move through some stuff fast. And it leads to a lot of just quick deaths that don't leave you with a ton of

emotional impact, for me at least. It also means that a lot of the kind of themes and character development are just kind of like very rushed. And I think if you knew the source material and were like aware of how characters are going to act and react and respond and what's going to happen to them. It kind of makes it easier for you to just be like, yeah, this character, x, y, z, this is gonna happen. But when you're just watching it fresh and you to just be like, oh, yeah, this character, x, y, z, this is going to happen. But when you're just watching it fresh

and you don't know what is supposed to happen or what's going to happen with characters, that makes it a lot tougher to kind of recognize those themes. And so there's obviously, like, the main character, Paul, Timothy, is the main person, the person you're rooting for. And by the end, if the movie has done its job correctly, you're supposed to not hate him, but see him

as the anti-hero, the oppressor, that sort of thing. But it just happens so fast, especially in the second movie. He goes from the main guy you're rooting for, to all of a sudden the movie ends. And you're kind of like, OK, I can see how I'm supposed to root against him, but it all just happens so fast. So interesting stuff. You know, situation where it's like five, five and a half hours between the two movies, but it also feels rushed in places.

So just a huge cast, right? And that's always tough, too, when you have all these big name actors you're expecting, like Christopher Walken or Jason Momoa, or who plays Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh. You're expecting them to have big, legit roles, and a lot of them just don't. And so it's kind of just like, OK.

And then you got the whole thing with Austin Butler in in the second movie and it's just I don't know he's very one-dimensional right he's like oh yeah he's definitely the bad guy he's gonna match Timothée Chalamet and then more spoilers ahead they finally have a final duel and well he dies so just yeah it's kind of like kind of just like you know that the Timothy is gonna gonna win at the end so anytime he has these like these hardcore like one-on-one duels it's kind of just like yeah I'm okay the biggest question I have is all these sand worms when they they're creeping up on the people, they're always underground. And then the people can like ride the sand worms. How do they get them to stay above ground?

If you're a sand worm, you don't want that sun exposure. You want that fresh, fresh spice. You want to go all the way underground. So how do they get the worms to stay above ground to ride them? These are the questions I have. It should be more like a submarine. So Dune gets three stars. Dune 1 and Dune 2 is a package deal for me. Go check it out if you haven't already. It's on Macs. Pretty solid. Pretty solid.

All right, last thing we're going to do here, I got to wrap up. I got to get ready for this wedding here. So again, as we mentioned a little bit ago, we're going to do a group trivia game together, play along at home. You're not clicking two states. But click A, click B, whatever. A is always pick a state that is in the top 25 most populous states, or the top 50%. Click B is always going to be click a state that is in the lowest half. So for example, if I wanted click 1 to be the most popular state, we'd go California.

Click B if I wanted it to be a low population state, we'd go Vermont. It's going to be easy in the first half, and then we're going to really get into murky waters here. And I'm just going to do my best. If you want to play along at home, before you listen to me play, you could pause, and then we can compare and contrast,

because I'm just going to walk you through how I'm doing. And we're going to see how far I get. My prediction is I'm going to get about, there's 50 total clicks. I'm hoping I can hit 35, which would be making a mistake with 15 states left. I feel without having really thought about this much that I can get to 30. I think it'd be pretty bad if I didn't get to 30. After I hit 30, though, I think all bets are off, because I think there's going to just be a lot of states like Kentucky or Alabama, where I'm like, okay, these aren't the gigantic population centers, but I don't know, like, how does that compare to, like, a Nevada or something,

which just has, like, Las Vegas, which is Vegas, which is big, but then not a ton else, right? So let's go ahead and give this a whirl. I turned the timer off because the timer for this game was like three minutes. And I don't want to feel that pressure. OK. So we're on practice mode on Sporco.

Play along at home if you'd like. So it starts high, then you go low, then high, then low. So high. And I'm not trying to go like, oh, what is the most populous state? What is the least populous state? If you know, you know to start, at least. So high, just like we said, let's go California.

And just assume I'm getting them right. As we continue to progress here, I'll let you know if something shocking happens in the first half of the game here so California high low let's go Wyoming all right next high let's go Texas next low let's go Florida. Next low, let's go Delaware. Next high, let's go Pennsylvania. Next low, let's try Alaska. Next high, let's go Illinois.

That could be another fun quiz. We could do the same exact setup. Alaska's got to be number one, but I would guess Montana's probably two. OK, we're back to highs.

We're starting to creep up on some questionable calls. I feel more confident in the highs than I do the lows. But highs, we still got some states like North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland. If I was paying more attention to my election results, this would be easier because of the electoral college. Let's go North Carolina for highs. A lot of people in North Carolina.

For low, let's try Nebraska. It's a lot of sand and cows. Not a lot of people outside of Omaha. All right, we are 20 down, 30 to go. Next high, let's go with a couple I like, Georgia, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maryland. Let's go Georgia for a high. Okay, we still got Arizona too, that's got to be high. Next low, let's try Kansas. Not a lot going on in Kansas, I feel like. OK. Next high, let's do Maryland.

It's very densely populated, kind of like Jersey. Same with Massachusetts. Low, OK. Let's go South Dakota. It's got to be low. It's got Fargo, not much else. OK. Another high.

Let's go Massachusetts. That's 25. So we're halfway. I feel like we're past the point of, oh, that was really embarrassing and stupid. And now it's just like, tough. But it is what it is. We're halfway.

We need another low. Let's go with Maine. I have been to Maine. And even the quote big cities like Portland are not big. So Maine is low. Okay Next high things. I'm considering Arizona, Colorado Tennessee, Virginia Virginia has to be high. It's huge. Okay, Virginia isn't high low. Let's just do West Virginia. It's It's not as like desolate-wise as some may think. But again, the big cities, Charleston, they're not big.

So West Virginia's got to be low. Yes. OK, 28 down. Next high. Arizona, I'm tweaking about. But it's huge, right? Phoenix itself is gigantic. So Arizona's a high. Okay next low. We got we're getting into

some like Midwestern things like Indiana, Iowa where I'm fairly certain at least like Iowa's definitely got to be low. Indiana I feel it's probably closer to the borderline. And then your deep south states like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana I don't have a great sense of. So we're looking for a low. Let's go to Iowa. I mean it's got to be low. Yes. Okay. All right. Next up we need another high. Things I'm considering. Minnesota, Colorado's got to be high. Okay. All right. We're into 31. So we've kind of hit my my tar like 30 is where I felt like it was gonna be okay.

35 is what I wanted to get to. Now we have a low place like New Hampshire. Vermont is so low, New Hampshire is squished between that and Maine. I think New Hampshire's got to be low. Yes, okay. That was probably the first one I clicked on where I was like, this could be dicey. Okay, now we're starting to start to cut our teeth a little bit.

We've got 18 left. The highs I'm considering are Minnesota, Tennessee right now. So let's go... Tennessee's got a lot of people. Let's go Tennessee for a high. Yes. Okay. Now lows, I'm considering Mississippi. It's got to be low. There's not that much. There are no big cities. Mississippi's a low. Yes. Okay. All right. We're at 34. Let's just, you know, try to go with the ones that I feel most confident in. So Minnesota's got to be a high. It is. Now the question next door door Wisconsin. I'm not ready to click it either way because I actually don't know which one I think it falls

under. So we're looking for a low. We need something with a little bit more confidence here. Things I'm considering for lows, we already mentioned like Alabama, Nevada was we mentioned at the top that's one I really don't know about but a low here is Arkansas which I feel pretty good about let's try it Arkansas for a low okay we are 36 down there's 14 states left if you want just a check-in where we're at and our next pick is gonna be a high. Alabama, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. So that's the population we're working with here. We've got seven highs,

seven lows. I'm trying to really critically think is there anything obvious I'm missing especially for a high because that's our next pick don't I don't think any of this is obvious to me places like Nevada New Mexico Missouri have some big cities but then also just a lot of nothingness same goes for like a Washington I feel like Washington's high let's let's go for it this is my first high where I'm like me yeah, I really don't know. Washington high. Got it. Okay. Now we're looking for a low.

I've got questions about South Carolina and Wisconsin. Those I have no idea about. We need a low. Utah, I mean the valley, but other than that not a lot, so I'm gonna go with Utah and even Salt Lake City is not huge, Utah got it. Okay, 12 to go. This is better than I legit thought like around 35 is when I was gonna flame out and we're at 38. So okay we need a high. I don't know if this is as riveting for the audio audience, but I'm having a lot of fun over here. Okay, we need another high. We're looking for a top 25 state population-wise. We just did Washington,

so do I want to do Oregon is the question. And I say go for it. There's a lot of action in the valley. Oregon, here we go. Hold your breath. No! I failed. Oregon is not top 25. So let's just check our work here. Pull up a list and see where we were at with the states we had left. See how close Oregon is. I really I got duped when I went with Washington. I was like, oh, if Washington's in there, Oregon probably is too. Okay, so Oregon, if you're curious, is 27th. Okay, so I missed it by two. The other states we had, Alabama is top 25, it's 24th, but right on the borderline. And if you're curious what's the difference between 25th and 26th Louisiana and Kentucky, it's a matter of 50,000 people. So I don't feel that bad.

Connecticut, which we missed, is bottom. That's 29. Indiana we didn't touch on. That is top. OK, higher than I thought. Indiana is 17th. Yeah, that one was a blind spot for me. Kentucky's got to be on the borderline.

Yeah, 26th, that is the border. Louisiana is the other border. It's 25th. So Louisiana was a high, Kentucky was a low. I think I, I don't know if I ever would've got that. Missouri is 18th. That was when I floated and I was like, it's not, you know, desolate, but I don't know.

So we missed Missouri. Nevada, I had questions about Nevada's lower. It's just got Las Vegas and Reno, basically. Nevada is 33rd. That one stings a little bit. New Mexico is 37th. I should have gone for the, I felt, as the game went on, I felt better about the lows than the highs.

It kind of switched to where I felt initially. Mexico, 37th. Oklahoma is, let's see, where is Oklahoma on this list? 28th, so close to the borderline. Oregon, we already mentioned, is 27th, very close. That's what we got out on. And then South Carolina is 23rd, so on the borderline. And where did Wisconsin follow as 20th? I should have, you know, I had tried to package Washington

and Oregon together, I should have tried to package Minnesota and Wisconsin together. So the big blunders, I would say, missing Indiana, that was the highest one I didn't get, 17th. And New Mexico was the lowest one I didn't get at 37th. So, not, we ended up getting 38 right. We got out on guest 39. So that was it.
