Hey, what's going on? It's Quinn David Furness. Welcome to my show. Quinn David Furness presents the Beantown
podcast for Saturday, October 10th, 2026. What's happening? What's going on? How are you? My name is Quinn, and this is my program.
Quinn David Furness presents the Beantown podcast. We are recording live on a beautiful Saturday,
late morning, 11 a.m. 10, 10th, October 10th, October 10th, October sky. That movie about the Rockets.
Hakeem Olajuwon, Tracy McGrady, James Hardin, really good stuff.
What is?
He's like a kid.
He's building rockets.
Was that Toby McGuire or am I?
I think I'm conflating.
I think it wasn't Toby McGuire, was it?
Now I'm thinking about Cider House rules.
Michael Cain.
Apple Cider, donuts.
Mm, that's good stuff.
I love, I think, like, Halloween.
fall is the only season where we get really like legit authentic seasonal donuts right apple cider
donuts pumpkin donuts umpkin donuts underrated it's not you know they're not like really pumpkin
is more like pumpkin spice it's like a cake donut with a little bit of pumpkin spice running but you don't
really get good christmas donuts right there's no like pine donut i suppose your fancy bakeries
in more wood-laden areas could make a uh uh a
donut in the shape of like a Christmas tree, but it's really, you know, Christmas is about the
cookies, right? You don't get like a Thanksgiving donut. I never had a donut ladled
gravy on top. And certainly, you know, Easter, I'd never had a marshmallow fluff donut.
So, fall Halloween really got the chokehold on donuts here. I want to say thank you to our good
friends in Pakistan. Thank you for making us the 78th ranked
comedy podcast in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and of course our good friends in
Nigeria, Lagas, Abuja, Benin City.
Thank you for tuning in to our program.
What's on the docket today?
Well, a real smorgish board.
S-M-O-R-G-A-S-B, probably like an O with a cool slash through it, R-D, something like
that.
Close enough, right?
Swedish, smorgish board.
Do you think everything in Sweden is just like, you know, it's always yellow all the time?
It's just people, they wear yellow clothes because of the flag and it feels like,
what are the countries out there that really just, whether it's because of their flag or
something else, it's like they really lean into one color.
And I don't know if that's actually true about Sweden.
I'm just, I guess it doesn't, maybe it's, whether it's,
it's true or not, it's just my cultural perception of it. And that's got to count for something,
right? Before I expand further, listener discretion advice when you're listening to this program,
number one, will occasionally use some language number two. This podcast is objectively terrible.
We got Sweden yellow for sure. I don't know how much they're leaning into it these days,
but if we're going to stay in the same region for a couple different countries that are coming
to mind. When I think the Netherlands, I think orange, because everything, you know,
there's certain things like that.
I don't know the right way to describe it or what word to use.
But when you're watching a Jeopardy clue and it's like, oh, you got like a trigger word
and you don't have to know everything about a topic, but you just have to like be able to
associate a trigger word to a specific, you know, answer.
And if something is orange, it's the Netherlands.
Like yesterday there was a clue about King Christian.
I think Christian the ninth or something.
And I never heard of this guy.
I don't know when he was king.
But his name is Christian.
And it's like, boom, if you're Christian, you're Danish.
And again, it's not like that's a 100% infallible truth.
But it's just this word association, right?
What are some other things like that?
I don't know.
You can write us and let us know because I've got colors on the brain.
Beantown Podcasts at yahoo.com.
What are other good, like, jeopardy or just trivia triggers in general?
It's kind of hard to just think of it off the top of my head.
You kind of know it when you see it.
Other countries, Ireland, the other one that comes to mind,
and then I'll have to just brainstorm a little bit live on the air,
see if I can think of anything else.
When I think of Ireland, I think of green.
I think that's probably like just about the most extreme example you can think of.
Everything Ireland is green, the Emerald Isle, right?
And to be fair to Ireland, you get a nice little orange secondary color,
not as primary as the Dutch, but still present.
I think, you know, green really rules the day.
Anything else?
I mean, when I think of Spain, I think of red, probably because the flag's got some red,
although it's got some yellow too, and then bull fighting, running of the bowls, Pamplona.
I think that's one of those things culturally I'll never get to.
Like, there's nothing about the running of the bulls when I hear about it and what entails,
you know, whether you're running or just observing, whatever.
but there's nothing about that particular scene
where I'm like, oh yeah, I think that would be really cool and fun to do once.
I think I'm happy to just like watch the cultural depictions of it and the clips.
I think I'm more likely to go to the R.C. Kola and Moon Pie Festival in Bell Buckle, Tennessee in mid-June than I am to run with the Bulls.
Granted, it's also like an eight-hour drive, a couple hundred bucks total trip.
versus, you know, seven, 800 bucks in flights and all the money you're blowing on tapas.
Excuse me.
Tough.
It's okay, Mike.
Got water down the wrong bike.
Get yourself together, man.
Holy cow.
All right, let's try to clear it with another sip.
Hopefully we don't mess up.
Tough.
And this is where having a competent co-host would really help me.
maple man um what were we we were on colors i was going to come back to that but there was something else
we were going through and then i just totally nuked it with an errant sip errant sip sounds like he could
be like a wild west gunslinger doesn't he i just finished um we are drinking water by the way
it's 11 o'clock in the morning on a saturday and i'm going to have some october fest's
later in the day, no particular reason, just hanging out on a Saturday.
But it just felt like 11 a.m. is too early.
I can only, these days, I only do 11 a.m. if I've got a really fun, specific reason,
which my lifestyle, I lead that's like twice a year.
It's like St. Patrick's Day, and then we got, we're going to the Vikings game in two weeks here up in Minneapolis.
I'll be drinking beers before noon for sure.
but otherwise it's like yeah
I'll get into it in like the 2 p.m. hour at the earliest
otherwise I'm asleep by 4 p.m.
There was something else I was going down to rabbit hole
and then just the water just crashed the party
so kind of like when that monsoon
a tsunami hit Indonesia
what was the name of that
Ewan McGregor film
was it Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman
did they reunite for that
or is that another lead actress?
And it's about like these British tourists, I think is a true story.
The British tourists who are in, was it Indonesia, I think,
during the tsunami, like 20 years ago.
And it's called like the aftermath or something like that.
Let's see.
Ewan McGregor tsunami film.
The Impossible.
Let's see.
Naomi Watts, not Naomi Watts.
Nicole Kibnett. I knew it wasn't Nicole Kibn because I feel like I would know about that
because I'm a huge AMC head. Dude, I made this great joke. Made my wife laugh. Best thing in the
world you can do is make your wife laugh. Little tips for the, tip for the guys. But we were
sitting at the doctor's office the other day and it was real dark. Like you're in like a meditation
room. It's like you're only seeing like the light of the screens and stuff. And, um,
And it was kind of, not like an awkward, uncomfortable silence,
but it was just like a pause in the action.
And the doctor was fumbling around with something.
I was like, I feel like Nicole Kidman's about to come on the screen
and talk to me about the magic of movies.
Maybe doctor's offices should have more popcorn.
I say more popcorn as if they have any to start with.
I love this Wikipedia article.
I'm not going to go down this rabbit hole at all
because I've never seen the movie The Impossible.
Yeah, the 2004 Indian Neutral,
ocean tsunami but it starts the article starts the impossible and then parentheses spanish lo impossibly
was it okay i was going to wonder it's a spanish film how do they decide if a movie is like a english
film or a scottish film or a german film because it's in english okay but it's a spanish film is that
just because the production company is spanish distributed by warner brothers production
companies telosynco cinema so that that tracks lo impossibly right mike that's what we call
maple these days one syllable verse two it saved me a lot of time in my day other countries
associated with particular colors i don't know i think i i hit i hit some some three big ones right
Ireland, green, Sweden, yellow, Netherlands, orange.
I guess Norway gets some solid red for sure.
I don't know if I feel quite as strongly about red Norway as I do like yellow, Sweden or green Ireland, but it's up there.
I don't know if there's anything else.
Canada red for sure, but it just, it's, I feel like the association is more with like a maple leaf in.
it just also happens to be red rather than like the color red.
I think Brazil green is pretty good.
Although they got like some yellow too.
Like their soccer jerseys are yellow.
So maybe it's yellow more than green, but the flag's green.
So see what I'm saying?
A lot of these countries, you start to think one thing and then you break it down even more.
And you're like, actually it's this.
I think we'll move past this.
Australia yellow is pretty good.
Yellow tail.
Yellow tail, yellow, uh, yellow, uh, yellow, uh,
sushi, right? That's a yellow tail. It's like a type of fish or something.
I don't know. Let's move past it. If you think of anything else, email us. Beantown Podcasts at Yahoo.com.
Again, that's Beantown Podcast at Yahoo.com. Any other countries that are strongly associated with one color.
Okay. And don't give me, don't send me a flag that's monochromatic and be like, oh, so Uganda is this color or whatever. I don't know what.
Uganda's flag actually is.
but it's fun to say Uganda.
We spend so much time in our lives,
trying to be politically correct
and say, let's get the pronunciation just right.
But I think sometimes I like to really lean into my American accent
and say, Uganda.
Excuse me.
Or I was in a geography, B once,
like a state B or maybe it was my brothers.
I don't know.
But the moderator is reading the questions.
He says the country of La As.
instead of Laos.
That's not even like an Americanized thing.
It's just kind of like weird.
To this day, before and after,
I've never heard someone else call
the Southeast Asia country La Asse.
I feel like there's not a lot of words in general
across the globe where the OS sound is us.
It's like, what does that even rhyme with?
Kiribati.
That's a funky one.
Kiribati.
K-I-R-I-B-A-T-I.
Let's keep going.
We've got things on the agenda.
I promise it's not just the Quinn-Slam poetry hour.
The Animal of the Week, and this goes with one of the other thoughts I had.
I don't remember.
Oh, we were watching Chopped, my wife and I, and it was a truffle-themed episode.
And that got me thinking about those truffle-hunting pigs.
So our Animal of the Week is a pig, which I don't think we've done before.
I feel like we talk about Wilbur and, uh,
and Babe from time to time on the show,
but we don't often talk about, you know,
just the general mighty pig.
Famous pigs in history,
you have the aforementioned Wilbur, Babe,
Miss Piggy, Porky,
fans of the Washington commanders.
Are people still leaning into the whole,
you know, when I was growing up,
you know, you're like,
you're playing.
your Madden video games and stuff, which I actually have another topic here that's going to mention Madden in a couple minutes here.
But, you know, if you're going to a Washington, you know, previously the artist formerly known as the Washington Redskins, you're going to a game.
And it's because, you know, people always kind of knew like we shouldn't be calling our team the Redskins because of like what Redskins refers to.
but we're just going to go with it and decide that Redskins is in fact going to refer to, you know, pigs and hogs.
There's a neighborhood in Baltimore where this show was conceived when I had sex with a microphone called Pig Town.
It's like southwest of the football and baseball stadiums.
I never really got around to their old meatpacking district.
I don't really know what Pigtown was like.
but you would see the people go into these Redskins games
and they're dressed up, they got the pig noses.
And I don't know if that's like still a thing.
They've been the commanders, what, for like three or four years now?
They were the Washington football team for what, two seasons
as they transitioned out of the Redskins.
And I don't know commanders, I guess,
because it's like Commander in Chief.
I don't really know what the exact lore is behind the name,
but we're really, I think, starting to get far away from the whole, like, dress up like a pig thing,
which is too bad because it's fun.
You don't see as many pig noses in the NFC East these days.
By the way, what the, a truffle.
Truffle is one of those mystical foods where I'm like, I don't really know what it is.
I know that it lives underground, and it's kind of like a mushroom,
or in my head I associate it with mushrooms, and pigs, for some reason, can smell.
them really well and that's like their their biggest utility outside of tasting good just had a
couple pork links this morning but what i mean gun to my head you say okay so like what actually is a
truffle what's going on there i'm like i don't i don't know i so let's go to wikipedia it's the fruiting
body that's pretty fun of a subterranean eskimicin fungus so it is
related to mushrooms. One of the species of the gene is tuber. So it's like a mushroom and a potato.
They had a baby. More than 100 genera of fungi are classified as truffles. Okay, we're getting
into a lot of Latin words here that I can't pronounce. Truffles are a type of fungi, so they
are found in close association with tree roots. Spore dispersal is accomplished through fungivores,
animals that eat fungi. Okay. Good drought tolerance.
Some truffle species are prized as food.
They're cultivated and harvested from natural environments.
So we haven't figured out how to genetically engineer artificial truffles yet, have we?
Cultivation.
There's a statue of a guy.
I was hoping there'd be a statue of a pig.
Unfortunately not.
This sentence from Wikipedia says,
truffles can be cultivated.
Why, they're really giving it to us up front, aren't they?
Let's Google truffles and pigs and see if there's anything there before we move on to maybe thank
our sponsors.
Pigs have a long, per AI, pigs have a long history being used to find underground truffles,
though dogs are much more common today.
You hear that, Maple?
I was just, I had this thought as we were getting ready to court, because I knew I was going to mention
pigs today. I was like, you know, we associate the pigs with truffle hunting. That's all great.
Can a dog learn these skills? It's like Anakin Skywalker, you know, is it possible to learn these
powers? And Palpatine's like, not from a Jedi. That was kind of like Michael Kane playing
Darth Sidious. That wasn't so much Ian McDard, McDiarmid, however, whatever his name is, he's Scottish,
right? He's not English. But he uses the English accent. What if Palpatine had a Scottish accent?
They should have gotten Sean Connery back in the day.
Why pigs were used.
Keen sense of smell, chemical attraction.
Hello.
The fungi released a compound very similar to the sex pheromone
found in the saliva of male boars.
There you go.
Why pigs are rarely used today,
pigs love to eat truffles.
Handlers often have to wrestle the fungi away from the animal.
I got bad news for these pig handlers.
If you throw big Mike over here into the mix,
She's going to chomp on everything because she eats grass.
She eats wood chips.
She eats chicken bones and bagon strips.
So she's definitely going to eat your truffles too.
So Maple, this might not be the job for you.
Excited pigs dig aggressively with their hooves and snouts,
tearing up the delicate forest floor and root systems.
Italy officially banned the use of pigs for truffle hunting in 1985.
And difficult to manage.
Pigs are heavy, stubborn,
and harder to transport and train than dogs.
So there you go, Maple.
You still, there's still a possibility you could do this.
Trufflehog, that'd be a good horse name.
By the way, I've just like randomly stumbled upon some great horse names this past week,
or they popped in my head.
And I won't reveal any of them, although I'd love to give you a little taste,
because I'm looking at the list as we prepare for our season 10 special,
which is still six months away.
And, dude, I'm telling you, this, I'm not just saying this to blow smoke up my own ass, nor because it's the 10-year celebration, which is really exciting.
I think we're going to have more celebrations, not just anniversaries.
Next year, we're going to have more celebrations.
Maybe we do one of those, like, revival tents that the evangelists do.
I'm going to come back to evangelists in the second half of the program because we got to do a little eulogy for a certain preacher, scam artist.
But yeah, we're probably going to do a lot, you know, probably maybe try to get into like some MLM stuff and raise money and probably defraud some of you guys.
So that's coming up next season actually.
But no, my actual point was I've got some bang and horse names.
I've just been writing them down.
And I don't write things down where I'm like, oh, that's okay.
Like I'm only putting names down here in the list.
I'm like, this is really solid.
I think I just counted.
We're up to 14 already,
and we still are only halfway through the cycle.
So this is your reminder.
You don't have to save up for April or May or whatever.
You can email us throughout the year, Beantown Podcasts at Yahoo.com
or tweet at us at Beantowncast and submit your horse names.
These aren't actual horses' names.
These are you name them.
What is it?
It's like you go to the pumpkin patch and it's like you pick them.
You name them.
Okay.
Got some really good ones here.
I wish I could share some with you,
but we got to say,
we got to hold our cards close to the vest,
as they would say.
Let's check out our sponsors.
Speaking of staying close to the vest,
I don't have a good transition for that.
I was trying to think of something like magic or something.
I don't know.
We saw a magic show at the Pumpkin Patch last weekend.
It was very kids-oriented,
but this guy was having fun.
he was probably like 70 years old, still doing his magic.
Reminded me of this old Presbyterian preacher in Minnesota
whose church we used to go to when I was a kid.
Dwight.
Kind of had that same energy.
But this guy's name wasn't Dwight.
I don't know what his name was.
Didn't even think to ask.
There is no good way to transition,
but there is a good way to hire a home inspector in Central Oregon.
Are you tired of selling your house for less than a quarter of what it's
worth, all because you couldn't find a reliable home inspector in time.
Well, Oregon listeners, I got good news for you.
Home Pride inspection services in Bend, Oregon is Central Oregon's hottest new home inspection
provider with inspection services, including things like heating and cooling, roofing, plumbing,
and so much more.
Maybe a septic scope?
You ever think to yourself, I wonder if my home inspector will get it on his hands and
knees and crawl through that septic pipe and investigate for me while Steve will do it for you?
and that's just scratching the surface.
Home Pride Organ is both contractor certified and home inspection certified,
so you know you're getting the good stuff.
If you're tired of big real estate's wranglehold on the home inspection market
and you want a safe certified home inspector you can trust,
call Steve at 541404100.316 or email homeprideorgan.com.
Again, that's 54140410316 or email homeprideorgan.com.
HomePride organ inspection perfection.
I also want to give a quick shout out to the Samson Q2U series,
which I talked about fornicating with about 15 minutes ago,
and that's how this show was born.
Samson is a tender lover, a better listener,
and even better if you want to talk right into him.
That's right.
Samson is a male, and together we had a baby,
and that was the Beantown podcast.
When God speaks, he uses a Samson.
We think Jesus and Mary Magdalene were really getting it on,
I mean, I feel like it.
She was a babe.
Jesus, you know, kind of had an edipus complex.
And so, I mean, he's not going to sleep with his mom.
Next best thing.
My best friend's name is Mary.
Might as well.
There's nothing else to do here in, you know, Bathlehem, wherever Jesus spent his time.
I don't have a fully fleshed out thought.
I'm actually, for all of my biblical expertise,
I don't consider myself much of a Mary Magdalene expert.
Most of my knowledge is in numbers and Leviticus, generally speaking.
Cuts by Q, Bob and we, we all know the hairstyle, we all love it.
But how many Chicago-based independent barbers can actually give it to you the way you deserve?
Enter Cuts by Q is a little like Endersand Man, only different.

Q. Mike, you want to read the Beantown Sportsbook ad copy? Here it is, buddy. Just wanted to do a sniff.
Speaking of Mike, rest in peace, Mike Ditka. Tough one. I had to watch some clips from kicking and
screaming last night as I was falling asleep. I don't know if Mike Ditka had any other acting credits
outside of that. But rest in peace, big fella. Huge fella.
Hey, sports heads, has it been too long since you made a terrible decision?
The all-new Bean Town Sportsbook is now live leveraging the latest AI, advanced analytics,
and obnoxious in-app advertising to turn you into a slam dunk.
With the WNBA finals right around the corner, that's right, it's the Dream versus the Valkyries.
There's never been a better time to send your bets up, up, up, up, up, and away into orbit.
Mid-ad read trivia question for you guys.
Do you know what cities the WNBA two final teams represent the Valkyries and the Dream?
I'm a total women's sports head, so obviously I know the answer and I'm locked in.
I was watching the Valky close out the defending champ Aces last night who are from Las Vegas.
So there's a city to cross off your list.
I just made it that much easier for you to guess.
The answers are the dream are from Atlanta.
and the Valkyries, I think it's only their second season.
I'm going to guess they're from Oakland.
The answer is Golden State.
And I think the Warriors play in, well, did they,
the Warriors did play in Oakland?
Did they move to, like, San Francisco or something?
Or do they still play in Oakland?
Let's just say the Bay Area and go with that.
Yeah, the Golden State Valkyries.
What if there are other,
sports teams that use their state nickname as their place.
The Sunshine State Panthers, good hockey team.
Actually, the Panthers play in a city, I think, called Sunrise.
I think we've done a trivia question about that on the show before.
Or you could have the Beehive State Jazz.
Dude, that would be badass.
Imagine you got to catch an early fight to play the Beehive State Jazz,
and then you can't even have a beer at the bar.
You've got to drink a Coke with coffee creamer in it.
Mormon wives fans know.
Or you could have the Land of Lakes Vikings, big football game coming up.
That one doesn't really roll off the tongue as well, does it?
And finally, don't forget about the, I don't know, what's another state nickname.
We're doing a baseball team.
The Keystone State Pirates.
Hello.
Going to Pittsburgh for a duel with the Keystone State Pirates.
All right, let's finish this up here.

You're looking at me like I'm crazy.
You wanted to do the ad read?
You don't have the X factor, dude.
You got to, I don't know,
this would be better if we video streamed this.
Sometimes you're vocal.
Sometimes you're not.
Not today.
Okay.
Let's get back to the show here.
Welcome to the second half of the Beantown podcast.
Rest in peace, big fella Jim Baker.
A classic.
scam Christian evangelist scam artist in the mold of
Billy Graham, Billy Crystal, Jerry Falwell,
Ken Hovind is a little bit more of a niche deep cut
that most people probably don't know about.
Joel Osteen, all the people that righteous gemstones,
so spot-oningly, that's right, just made up a new word,
spot-oningly, roasted.
Jim Baker, without going through his whole
but he was, you know, big in the, like the 80s with his wife, Tammy Faye, who ended up, like,
not being a terrible person.
She did some good things.
And then she died.
I thought the movie, the eyes of Tammy Faye, which was, what was that?
It was like a documentary 20 years ago.
And then Jessica Chastain movie, like five years ago.
She won the Oscar for it, Best Actress.
I thought that movie was fine.
It wasn't, you know, I'm not going to remember it in a decade, but Andrew Garfield playing James, Jim Baker, and you've got to respect the spelling.
That's got to be Dutch or something, right?
B-A-K-K-E-R.
Where did that extra K come from?
And then Tammy Fay passed away and Jim remarried to Lori.
And I wasn't, I didn't even know anything about Jim Baker, although I'm sure my parents did.
I was introduced to the Jim Baker Buckets by friend of the show,
Ryan Austin English,
via I assume Vic Burger,
one of my favorite content creators,
part of the Holy Trinity Office Hours Live podcast
with DJ Doug Lusenhop and, of course, Tim Hidecker.
And Vic Burger, like a decade ago,
was just, and he still, you know, does all sorts of stuff and projects,
but a decade ago, he was really firing on all cylinders with his YouTube content
between, like, Trump stuff right around the, you know, election leading into 2016
and then the first couple years of the Trump presidency, first term.
And Vic also loves to, you know, make fun of grifters and other boisterous personalities.
There's a really good Pauli Dean Christmas compilation.
but one person in particular that Vic really honed in on was Jim Baker
like Jim Baker and Alex Jones those those videos from like 10, 12 years ago or just iconic
and some of that stuff is still on YouTube some of that's been taken down
but you can still see a couple great Jim Baker clips from the Vic Burger
YouTube channel if you want to go have some laughs be a little scared
But what I love the most, I could never be a good grifter like Jim Baker was because I'm too financially conservative.
What I mean by that is like if I'm trying to scam you out of money, I'm such a small time crook or I would be a small time crook.
I'm not a crook in any capacity right now.
If I was going to be a crook, it'd be small time because I'd be like, oh yeah, donate $50 to the show.
And I won't, you know, I won't donate it to charity.
I won't use it for show purposes.
I'll defraud you.
Okay, when you do our telethon every year, and spoiler season 10, it's going to be a telethon celebration.
I match that money one for one to charity, usually the United Way of Metro Chicago.
It always has been, always will be.
We're not doing it to make money.
We're doing it to, you know, raise money for programs and kids who can benefit from it.
This is just a silly little side project.
But, you know, we're doing like, you get into the Topaz Elite Club with 20 bucks, okay?
you watch these Jim Baker videos, and he's got the buckets, which if you don't know anything about it,
basically it's like a doomsday prepper thing. Jim really leaned into that in his later years.
He had a TV show, and he's got these buckets of, you know, freeze-dried rice and whatever,
just crap food.
And it's like if there was an apocalypse, probably pretty helpful to have.
He even advertises you can poop in them.
But we're betting on there being an apocalypse or like a, you know, Jesus.
this Christ coming back to Earth kind of thing.
And I think the odds are relatively low in my lifetime.
But the point I'm trying to get to here, Jim would be like, yeah, if you donate X amount
of money, we'll send you like these 20 buckets.
And you know, it's a lot of food, but it's all just, you know, heavily manufactured.
The number that he'll ask for as a donation, like your one-time donation will get you
20 buckets or something.
It'll be like $2,500.
It's like if you donate right now, you call today, pick up the phone, share your credit card info or cut us a check for $2,500 or like $2,000.
We'll send you these buckets that probably has the cash value of like $100 or something.
Maybe a little bit more than that.
I don't know how much a bucket costs.
But it's, you know, I'm over here asking for $20 to be in the Topaz Elite Club.
Jim Baker is saying like, yeah, what if you just picked up the phone and you sent $2,000?
That would be pretty nice, huh?
And I'm over here thinking like, man, my take-home pay after taxes and FICA and all the other stuff, you know, we're talking like, what, like five-ish percent of my annual salary to get some buckets and support a grifter.
That's tough.
I just put that in Maple's College Fund.
So I don't have anything else.
I do strongly recommend carving out five, ten minutes if you never watch.
a Vic Burger Jim Baker special on YouTube.
There's a couple ones still out there you can watch that are spectacular.
So rest in peace, big fella.
Say hi to Tammy Faye and maybe you'll scam some people in heaven or hell or whatever the afterlife holds for us all.
A couple other things here.
It was on a walk the other day with Maple and I just saw this.
I don't have a long bit or anything on it.
love when I see this. I was walking past a mechanic shop. And they had the thing where like the
tires are just rotating. You know about that? There'll be like a stack of tires. And the one on top,
I don't know how it works. Maybe we can Google that. But it's just kind of like rotating without
any sort of like energy input. There's just like something perfect about the shape of the tire
sitting in the shape of the other tire. It's, I was, I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I
I was going to Google tire rotation, but that's just where you put your car up on the lift and they move the tires around.
Spinning tires out front.
I think there's a Seinfeld, like, clip that references this.
I googled spinning tires out front, and I just got car advice about driving in the rain.
Art of Racing in the Rain, right, with Velomintamiglia and the talking dog.
I don't really know what that book or movie was actually about.
I watched like 45 minutes of it in a hotel room one time with my wife.
I think we were like, I don't know if it was like we were at an all-inclusive and we were falling asleep or something or like,
out of stay going to a wedding and had some time to kill.
I do not recall.
But yeah, that's all I know.
about that movie. I'm just trying to find how these tires spin, but nothing that I'm Googling is giving
me a satisfactory answer. It's all just car advice. So maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I'm making this up.
Or maybe I just don't know how to Google search for this. Let's do one final thing. Trick
where tires spin automatically. Nope.
Nothing.
It's all just, you know, oh, you're probably talking about doing donuts in a parking lot.
Or Reddit thread.
Why do my tires spin when I press the gas?
So, you know what?
You're just going to have to use your imagination.
If you know what I'm talking about, email, it's Beantown Podcasts adyadjahoo.com because I feel like I'm going crazy.
I will package these next two into one here.
Last night was coffin night at home.
What that means is we were watching.
What did we watch?
Oh, the traitors, new blood.
And there was a challenge or a murder involving everyone lying in their own coffins, being buried alive.
I was like, okay, that's, you know, we watched it.
And then we go turn on Widows Bay.
And whereas an episode with Hamish Linklater, and they got to put them in a coffin and take them out to sea.
I was like, now I got to finish the trifecta by watching coffin flop.
from I think you should leave.
And there's no real jokes there.
It's just we had a very coffin-themed night.
But that reminds me of the Pokemon coughing, K-O-F-F-I-N-G, evolves into wheezing.
And the reason I bring this up,
I don't think I actually used either of them in what I'm about to share.
But I got to carve out a little bit of time later today
to take a second crack at this.
But you all probably know the 17-0 game at this point,
or in baseball it's 162 and 0 but it's basically you know without getting into all the weeds of how it works
it's basically like you get you know a random wheel spins and you get like a team and a year and you have to
pick a player and basically build out your starting lineup for a football team or baseball or basketball
whatever it is and try to build out the best lineup you can but what makes it fun is you know
once you use up a position you know you're done with it so you got to decide when you get a certain
team or whatever like who's my best option where is there still value elsewhere it's it's it's a fun
thing to do so i was up at like 4 a.m this morning and ultimately went back to bed for like an hour before my
run but i was i was doing a little bit of a twitter scrolling and i came across someone created
and it's getting some traction on twitter i've seen someone created a version of the nfl 17 and o game
but instead of nfl players it's Pokemon
and it uses things like their attack stat for offense
or their defense stat for playing defense obviously
and speed goes into it and special, all that stuff.
But you can, you know, I did a round when I was literally half asleep
where it was just gens 1 through 4,
which I don't even know Gen 4 very well,
but there were a lot of variations.
You can do all the gens, whatever.
So you spin the randomizer and you'll get like Pokemon Gen 2 electric.
and then from those you have to decide, you know, is this whatever,
I was going to say elect a buzz, but there's a Pokemon that he like evolves into in Gen 2 or something.
I don't remember.
But other, you know, another electric Pokemon.
I don't know why I picked Electric because I couldn't even think of one.
A water Pokemon, Faralligator.
You want him to be your, you want him to be your quarterback, your defensive tackle,
your strong safety or tight end where do you want to put them and so I played through a round last night
and I've got to say I'm pretty proud of myself I know that the point of the game is to go 17 and 0
from what I saw no one's gone about 15 and 2 so that made me feel even better when I went 9 and 8 okay
just not really paying attention to the stats that much more so like oh you give me a nittle king
that feels like a middle linebacker right or you give me a tourist that's got to be my my full back
So that's how I did it.
Played it half asleep.
Pretty proud of my results.
Nine and eight.
Winning season.
So we'll try our hand at it again later today
and see if we can get up to 14 and 3 or something.
But if you're a big Pokemon buff and a football fan,
that game was right in my Q zone.
I tell you what.
It's hard.
Maybe you throw a little like Beethoven Sonata in there.
All of a sudden we're really cooking with gas.
So that's the Pokemon 17 and O game.
Let's finish up with our trivia question,
and I just wrote it or came up with it this morning,
and I don't even know where it came from.
This was like two hours ago, literally.
I was like, oh, yeah, we'll ask about this,
and I have no idea how I thought about it.
But the one kind of asterisk I have on this is
there's not like a universal set of there's going to be eight right answers or 10 right answers.
So I framed the question in a way where it's a little bit more universally agreed upon.
The topic is karate.
More specifically karate belts and colors.
So instead of me asking you what I originally was going to do was like,
Nate, you know, what are the, how many different karate belt colors are there?
And I couldn't find a clear answer initially.
so I read through some different pages and one was like, oh yeah, there's seven.
Another is like, there's actually 10.
And then another one was showing the pictures and there's certain karate belts that are like half this color, half another color.
I'm like, this is getting way too complicated.
So what I decided I'm going to do is I'm going to give you nine karate belt colors and you try to put them in order from most basic to most advanced or as I wrote it in my notes, least to most badass.
So the official question, put these nine karate belt colors in order from least to most badass.
And here are my colors.
Black, orange, red, green, blue, purple, brown, gold, and white.
And the tough thing about that, I only wrote these out in the actual correct answer order,
so I was just trying to like randomize it in my head as I was going.
So again, we basically have what, like black, orange, red, purple, blue, gold, green, brown, and white.
Those are your nine colors.
So I don't know how you really want to approach it, but you can kind of do it however you want to do it.
Maybe easier to start with the ends where if you think you know the ends and work your way in.
You know, you can think about it and problem solve however you would put.
personally like to.
This is probably one of you, you'd want to give yourself an extra beat, so you might want to
pause.
I don't know, while you're figuring out your trivia, Maple, you have anything else for the
listeners today?
No.
Just licking your lips.
You know, as I've gotten older, having chapstick or Bert's B's or Carmex or whatever
it is, constantly handy and frequently applied has become a very high priority for me in my
30s.
I feel like 10 years ago was like, oh yeah, like I have some Carmex, you know, here and there.
Like, it's good to hydrate your lips, you know.
But it didn't, it was kind of like, you know, an afterthought.
Nowadays, it is like, I cannot, if I'm leaving the house, it is critical that I got my tube of chapstick
because otherwise it get really cranky.
Chap lips?
Mm-mm, not for me.
That's a way I've changed in my 30s.
I also just, I can barely do whiskey anymore.
which is a damn shame.
It just wreaks havoc on my stomach.
Tough, tough, tough, tough.
All right, that's enough time.
Here is the answer.
Putting these nine karate belt colors in order
from least to most badass.
We start with white.
Then we go gold.
Which I was surprised by.
I thought gold's like, you know,
you're Michael Phelps out there.
That should be a little bit higher up than number two.
But, you know, I don't.
squabble with the
sensei okay
we go white gold three we have green
four blue
five purple
you know purple is right in the middle
I feel like someone says oh I made my purple belt
I'm like snickering at them but purple is actually
kind of halfway to badass
six orange
seven red
eight brown and of course
number nine black
again white gold green
blue purple orange red
brown, black. There is your order. And there is your show. I want to thank everyone for supporting
our program. Quinn David Furness presents the Meantown podcast. We will come at you next week with
some more fall fun action. And for all of us at the show, I hope that you stay safe. I hope you stay sane.
And we'll check in on you guys next week. Take care.
