Starting point is 00:00:08 Hey, what's going on? It's Quinn David Furness. Welcome to my show. Quinn David Furness presents the Beantown podcast for Thursday, July 23rd, 2026. What's going on? What's happening? How are you? My name is Quinn, and this is my program. Quinn Davis presents the Beantown podcast. We're coming to you live on a Thursday, July 23rd. I am the creator, the host, and the It's a chief passenger princess of this program. Road trip in tomorrow all day up to Minnesota to honor the late great Grandpa Dave, the man, the myth, the legend himself. And so that involves about a seven-hour car ride. To get up there, and my brother graciously offered to drive and throw me in tow. I always like putting things in tow. It's like, originally when you started putting things in tow, you were probably toned them behind your car,
Starting point is 00:01:14 but now it's just kind of throw them in the back seat or wherever, and you got them in tow. T-O-W, tow. Because he's got the rental car, and I said, hey, let's not put the thousand miles round-trip-ish on the brand-new car. I got a $50,000 car over here, okay? Let's put that on the rental cars. So he's graciously offered to go behind the wheel. That was the name of our driver's ed program in my hometown growing up. It was behind the wheel.
Starting point is 00:01:49 And you would sit, what is it? What is drivers that? It was like a two-week course. You did it like almost every night. It was like 10 or 14 days straight almost, maybe Sundays off to honor the Lord. It was every night, at least when I did it, I don't know. It was probably like an hour, maybe two hours each night. Golly, that would have been for me, what is it, the summer you turn 15, you do driver's ed.
Starting point is 00:02:19 So for me, that would have been 2010. Shakira World Cup. Abri-la-da-ha-ho. Just time for Africa. No one ever said I could do a Shakira impression, okay? But speaking of the World Cup and, you know, global affairs, hello to it. our friends in Pakistan and Nigeria. Thank you for making us the 178th and 78th ranked comedy podcast in your great states. Kudos or not kudos. Shout out, I guess, to Spain. I don't even
Starting point is 00:02:55 want to shout them out. I guess acknowledgements to Spain for defeating Argentina in the World Cup final. What a snoozer of a game. Holy cow. Argentina had like one shot on goal the entire game or something, it was just really not pleasant to look at. But yeah, driver's ed, because you turn 15, and then you can get your learner's permit, and then you have to do, you know, 50 hours or whatever, and then you got to, you got to do your training drives or whatever with the driver's ed instructor. I think you've got to do that before you get your permit. So what is it? It's like you sit in the classroom. We had this really depressing classroom that was just for drivers ed. And, I wonder if it's still there.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I said behind the wheel was what it was called. I think it was called Drive Right. I can't remember. It was one of those two. They both refer to teaching young people to drive programs. One of them is what I actually did. And then another one was, I don't know. I think what I did was called Drive Right.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I don't know. How many, like, Drivers Ed schools are there, you know, in a town? The size where I grew up, is it just like the one that has a corner on the market? or what? And do these driver's education programs have to be like endorsed or licensed by the Secretary of State or is it more just like you can do whatever you want? And, you know, we're just going to prep you for the learner's permit, which you don't even have to take a road test to get a learner's permit.
Starting point is 00:04:27 So I don't really know how that works. But yeah, you sit in a classroom, right? For driver's ed, I don't really remember much about it. I took it with a friend, a homeschool friend growing up. And it was like two weeks maybe. I don't remember exactly what the format or structure was. But then you got to do like six drives with the instructor. And I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:04:49 The only things I remember about my drives with my instructors, one time it was the parallel parking lesson, which wasn't on the actual test. But we spent maybe 45 minutes because you can do these drives with your friends. just like knock him out so it'll be like 45 minutes for one 45 minutes for the other you change off halfway so the one lesson was parallel parking and she did it and i think it was combined with the hill parking right because it's like when you park downhill you're supposed to turn your wheels towards a curb when you park uphill you turn them away from the curb parking break both times simple stuff right
Starting point is 00:05:29 and my friend had to do like 10 parallel parks or something and I think I either did one and he was just like yeah we're out of time or I never even had to do one I don't remember nowadays I consider myself to be a proficient parallel Parker if we're if we're talking parallel Parker that's something that the plot of that spider man with all three you know Andrew Garfield and Toby McGuire and Tom Holland I think that was called parallel Parker
Starting point is 00:05:59 where was i driving driver's ed something oh now if you're doing a scale of like beginner intermediate proficient expert or something i'm kind of in that 75th 75th percentile because i i i like know the physics and i know what to watch out for i feel like i would say about 60 to 70 percent of the time i just nail it the parallel park no notes don't have to do any weird adjustments it's just nailed and then another 25 30% of the time it's like i kind of got it but i got i got a scooch a little bit we've all been there when we got to scooch our car just a little bit adjust and then like 5% of the time i just totally blow it and i got to either give up on the spot or take a new approach i feel like once you blow the parallel park once the odds of me going back
Starting point is 00:06:59 out and being like you know what if we're going to tackle this again are very low it's like we're just going to start from scratch and find a new spot because isn't it especially if someone's out there watching you the sheer embarrassment of being like they're this guy's going to try to do this again i don't think so jack so that was the the parallel parking a driver's ed and then one time this was the most vivid memory we lived in a town in like half an hour maybe like 20 to 30 minutes west of our town, Winnebago, which is what the county is named after, but the name of the actual town of Winnebago, was just a straight shot west. If you're driving from, you know, Chicago to Galena, Illinois, across the state from one end to the other,
Starting point is 00:07:48 eventually you'll pass through tiny little Winnebago, and there's a McDonald's there. So our drivers had less than that day was highway driving. So it's not like an interstate highway to get out there. it's U.S. 20, but it's, you know, four-lane highway. So, you know, people merging, good practice, you know, wide open, flat as far as the eye can see. So we drive out to the McDonald's. We take our, I remember who was driving at the time. But one person drove there, the other person drove back.
Starting point is 00:08:16 But in the middle, the halftime swap, we go to McDonald's. And our instructor, Arthur Law, L-A-H-L-A-H-L, Arthur Loll, I think it's Dutch or German or Saxon or something. You don't see as many Saxon names these days. He went through the drive-thru, ordered something, paid for, you know, paid for the order himself, but there was no offer or anything to be like, hey, do you guys want anything? Not that this driver's ed is a millionaire who can just pay for, you know, 15-year-old snacks and lunch, but I feel like as the driver's at instructor, you're just chill and hanging out. I would be upset, you know, as the instructor, If I ask someone and they're like, yeah, I'll take a triple quarter pounder with cheese,
Starting point is 00:09:01 extra large fries, and a milkshake. You know, back in those days, 2010, that would be like at least $7 or $8. Now it's like $25. But, you know, that would kind of bug me. But if you ask him, I don't know, maybe he just didn't trust us enough. Because if he would have asked me, do you want something? I would have been like, yeah, but how about a 49 cent cone or a McDouble, which back in those days, kids was 99 cents.
Starting point is 00:09:24 And it's like, you know what? These kids are driving me around. I'm just hanging out because we were good drivers. You know, no one ever had to use the emergency break or whatever. It's not the emergency break, but like the second break that they have on their side of the car, right? No one ever had to use that on me so far as I can recall. So it would have been nice to have been offered, you know, a McDouble or a cone or a fry or something. So, oh, well, by the way, listener discretion advice when you're listening to this program,
Starting point is 00:09:56 number one will occasionally be some language number two this podcast is objectively terrible we're drinking an old style here i got a 12 rack a while ago now like a month and a half ago and i just haven't been drinking much um the alcohol hasn't been hitting a ton and just you know i'm much more inclined as much as i love a cool summer bev frankly i'm much more inclined to it's like go hard on a Sunday afternoon in football season or something like that. And not like irresponsibly hard for me, but just like, you know, three or four drinks in the afternoon within a span of about three to four hours. To me, that's about as much as I can push it. I've also, I've been completely off my whiskey game, which is unusual for me. I'm a big whiskey fan. And it's just been wrecking my stomach too much.
Starting point is 00:10:50 The other thing, I don't have to tell you, you know, we frequently record this show on Friday, late afternoons as the workday wraps up. And that's, you know, for me, prime time for a beer and a glass of whiskey. I mean, how many episodes of the Beantown podcast have you listened to at this point where that's the MO? And I've been trying to prioritize, you know, not only just getting in my long runs on Saturday morning, so that I always am able to get those in, but just like not feeling like I really got to drag my ass out the door to make it happen. I want wanting to feel a little bit more fresh.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And there's levels to this. If I drink in any capacity, it already, it makes it not quite, it's not like waking up that, is that hard. It's just the BM factor. We had the MO earlier, and now we have the BM. And then if you add whiskey into the mix, like, if it's just a beer or two, it's like, okay, it's going to be a little bit rougher, but I can, you know, I can manage. You have the whiskey into the mix, and it is a real, gone. wantlet trying to get through, you know, eight to ten miles. And that's the, that's the ultimate thing is like, I want to enjoy my run to the extent that it's like I'm out there, stretching my legs, feeling the breeze in my hair. And with some of the stomach issues I've had just in the last
Starting point is 00:12:11 year, two years when you introduce the whiskey, all of a sudden your stomach becomes not only a factor before the run starts, but during. And that is not fun when you are like three miles from home and it's 6.30 in the morning so there's no public restrooms or anything out there. And you're just, you got to, you got to find a way to finish it off without shitting yourself. It's not, it's not fun physically and it's not fun mentally playing those gymnastics to start your weekend. So this was all an explanation for why I still have can. hands of old style. I think I got two or three left in the fridge, but nursing one right now here on a Thursday. Our Animal of the Week, sponsored by our good friends at the Samson

Starting point is 00:14:06 almost went a full cut on the back patio this week because I'm starting to get into like scruffy mode, if you recall the Wichita State Small Forward and eventual New York Nick Ron Baker who I think now is like an insurance agent or something in Wichita.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Good for you, Ron. Had a cup of coffee in the NBA. But he really had kind of that clingy helmet hair. That's kind of what my hair starts to look like. So considered it, but then I thought, you know what? We're going to a nice memorial honoring Grandpa Dave. And I just don't want to
Starting point is 00:14:43 don't want to F it up, really. The good news is, why would I ever F it up? I own my own hair, staffing, boutique, virtual agent firm. Jay Chillon. And I come across this video on Reddit, and it was like clips of different animals being shown,
Starting point is 00:15:53 stuffed animal versions of themselves. And the first animal in this rotation was a koala. And so even though this show has nothing to do with Australia or eucalyptus or anything at all, koala related, I've decided to name the koala. the animal of the week. Koalas were my,
Starting point is 00:16:18 low key, no cap. It was my favorite animal growing up. You know, when you're growing up as a kid, it's like, oh, you got to have,
Starting point is 00:16:26 you know, you got to have your go-toes, your favorite color, your favorite animal, because these are things you're going to be asked. And so at a certain point, you kind of just got to commit to something.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Like for me, it was green was my favorite color. Now it's like, I don't have a favorite color. And same thing for animals. It's like, do I have a favorite color? favorite animal it's like well i got the marvelous miss muff over here lying on the floor
Starting point is 00:16:47 mad because mom left for supper with some friends and mike big we call it big mike she couldn't go with but other than that no i don't really have a favorite animal but 25 years ago when i was a little tyke i said you know let's go with the koala bear they see you know like me they seem very motherly kind slow and they just like to eat and sleep all day and that's pretty much all they do and I really saw myself in the koala but isn't it you know the the brand of you know are you in every gas station or McDonald's in America and you go to change your baby
Starting point is 00:17:25 the changing table right it's like the koala branded changing table what is it called koala care they really monopolize the market didn't they if you've ever that's why every baby in America knows what a koala is because they're getting their heinie wiped next to a baby koala. Koalas, of course, native to Australia, I think. They eat eucalyptus leaves.
Starting point is 00:17:59 They're marsupials. M-A-R-S-U-P-I-A-L. Do the koalas have pouches? Is that the thing, like the thing that marsupials are known for? it's like, oh, if you got a pouch, you're a marsupial, no cap. I think, I think that's true. I mean, I don't know what are the main marsupials. Obviously, the kangaroo.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Get this, the AI, the Google AI overview. This is how it starts. The koala, an iconic, or is an iconic tree-dwelling marsupial. They just came right out and said it. So, yeah, these guys, no cap, they're iconic. Native to Australia. It's the only extant representative of the family. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Fast core, fast calarque today. P-H, buckle up, guys. Strap in. P-H-H, get in tow. P-H-A-S-C-O-L-A-R-C-T-I-D-A-E. 27-letter word, holy cow. Its closest living relative is the wombat. It's easily recognizable by its stout, tailless body,
Starting point is 00:19:09 and large head with round, fluffy ears, and large dark nose. They weigh 8 to 33 pounds. That's a big range. Let's see. So let's click on marsupials. A diverse group of mammals. They are natively found in Australasia,
Starting point is 00:19:31 found word. Fun word. I really having trouble speaking here. Reading. I need some hooked on phonics. Call LeVar Burton. I need a lifeline. One of marsupial's unique feature
Starting point is 00:19:42 is their reproductive strategy, the young are born in a relatively undeveloped state and then nurtured within a pouch on their mother's abdomen, extant marsupials encompass many species including koalas, kangaroos, opossums, possums, Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies, and bandicoots. Dude, a bandicoot is crazy. I feel a crash bandicoot, right? That's a game. He doesn't look that much like a bandicoot to me. I when I look at Crash Bandicoot
Starting point is 00:20:14 I'm getting Fox Like 100% And I think When I was a kid I absolutely was You know I had no idea what a bandicoot was And to this day it took some joggy in my memory To be like oh yeah
Starting point is 00:20:30 That's actually the name of an animal I just assumed Crash Bandicoot Was just a fun name And he was a He was a A fox You know, I had this thought, and I want to address it quickly, but something else that came to mind,
Starting point is 00:20:50 I saw this in the Wikipedia article, and then there's something else that I wanted to get back to with wombats. But I always found it interesting. There's, you know, I think these are the only two animals like this where we add a second animal to the back end of it just for fun, even though it's not really a thing. The koala bear and the panda bear, neither one of them are bears
Starting point is 00:21:12 I feel like I give the panda bear more of a pass because pandas kind of look like bears you know they're a little bit more round and fluffy I would say
Starting point is 00:21:28 than your average grizzly but if you just were like yeah you know in Asia they have these types of bears they're black and white and we call them pandas I'd be like okay yeah that makes sense it kind of looks like a bear But you go down to Australasia, which I guess is the new PC correct term for Australia. When I was a kid, it was just, we have this big old continent that was kind of an island and also a country called Australia.
Starting point is 00:21:54 But now to be PC for the Libs, we have to call it Australasia. But that's neither here nor there. But koala bear, I mean, these things don't really look like bears. They look more like Yoda than they look like a bear. So I don't know what the deal was with adding bear to koala. Are there any other animals where we're like a teddy bear? Basically a bear, but it's actually just a teddy. I mean, is there anything else like that?
Starting point is 00:22:22 Is someone going to come up and tell me a polar bear is actually its own thing? I don't know. I'll get the zoologist on the line here. But I did just want to point it out. Are there other animals, not bears necessarily, but it's like where we add a second animal name to the back? and it's like that's not really a thing at all. Email us if you know of it, if you hear of anything.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Email us Beantown Podcast at yahoo.com. Again, that's Beetown Podcast at Yahoo.com. The other thing I wanted to just, it's a final thought, and then we move on because I get stuff I still got to clean up. Excuse me and figure out here before. I got some moves to make. Let's just put it that way. tonight
Starting point is 00:23:09 some driving to suburbs and all sorts of stuff there was some I don't know if it was like Nickelodeon PBS what it was but we used to watch it as a kid and I'm trying to remember like what do I even Google here what made me think of it
Starting point is 00:23:26 is the like school team name the mascot whatever was the I don't know if it was fighting wombats mighty wombats or just wombats but what was was that show? I have no idea. School team name Wombats kids show. Let's see how good our keyword search
Starting point is 00:23:50 does here. Work it out Wombats. That's not it. It wasn't a, it wasn't a, it wasn't a, it wasn't a, it wasn't a, it wasn't a show about wombat's it was like the name of the school like not the you know not the the royal lions or something but the the wombats it's not what it was i'm looking at it work it out wombats absolutely not if anyone has any uh any intel or insight into this you got to email us let's try one more google search kids or or kids show where the school mascot was a wombat. It was something. It was like a kids mystery detective kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:24:40 I'm trying to think. It wasn't the name of the high school or school was like X high school or something. I don't know. This makes for a really good air. X high school kids show. It's the last thing we're going to try. Then we're just going to have to move on. The X's.
Starting point is 00:25:04 It's an American animated television series. James Bond. Oh, this might be it. Ran from 2005 or 2006. A single 20 episode series? How would I even seen this? The X's TV show on Nickelodeon. Anyways, I mean, that might be it.
Starting point is 00:25:27 I can't remember. I don't know. A Nickelodeon animated series about a family of secret spies who struggle to balance their crime-fighting duties with everyday life. I don't know if that's what it was or not. I don't know. If any of this rings a bell,
Starting point is 00:25:43 email us. You know how to find us. I wanted to, so I don't know where this stands legislatively right now, but, you know, that we've been, as a country, been having this whole daylight savings time debate for a while. And, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:00 there's been a push to stop changing the clocks every six months and just settle on a single time. And for a while, I thought the push, and I think we've talked about this on the show before, I thought the push was to get rid of daylight savings time so that whatever the time is in the winter, that's just the regular time. And there's no, you know, March comes around,
Starting point is 00:26:24 set your clock forward an hour so you get later sunsets. We're going to get rid of that. But now the house comes out, the House of Representatives, and they in a way they don't ban daylight savings time. They do the opposite. They permanentize daylight savings time
Starting point is 00:26:41 so that your time in the summer from March to September or November or whatever it is, that's the permanent time. And so we become a permanent daylight saving nation, which the pro of that is the later sunsets. And the con, of course, is the later sunrises, which the biggest sort of argument I've seen against it is for kids in schools, you know, in the winter who are going to school at 7, 7.7.15 in the morning and it's dark for the first hour of their school day, which I understand. But as someone who's not a kid, and even if you are like, it's dark in the winter when you wake up no matter what. So it's like who cares if it's dark for the first hour of your school day or your work day or if it's, I would rather have a sunset because we get, you know, here in Chicago, we're not quite
Starting point is 00:27:36 as far north as, you know, you mainers or Minnesotans, but we get some gnarly sunsets. We'll get, you know, 4.30-ish, 4-20, 4-30. I don't know what the earliest sunset is here in the winter. So if we can permanently keep those sunsets post 5 p.m., I'll take that. Okay. It doesn't impact me as much now that I almost exclusively. work from home but I have distinct memories of working in an office and from you know late November to mid-February or something you step out of work at 5 p.m. and it's just pitch black
Starting point is 00:28:16 downtown already and you got to commute an hour home that is that's pretty soul-sucking. That's the worst isn't it when it's dark on your commute to the office and dark on your commute home from the office that's pretty brutal. So maybe, maybe this will help out with this a little bit. I don't have a super strong opinion. I also, I mean, there's a little bit of a childlike wonder every six months. Well, not really, but just it's kind of nostalgic, right, to be like, oh, yeah, we got to change the clocks. And, I mean, if you, if we get rid of, if we settle on one thing, you know, daylight savings time or standard time,
Starting point is 00:28:57 no one's ever going to change the clock on their microwave or their oven ever. again and that's just kind of a sad thought it's a fun thing to do every six months so i don't know that was just my my rumination my musings on daylight savings time i did isn't there i think it's uh it's like newfoundland or something right this isn't even so much daylight savings time now this is just time zones in general newfoundland or whomever it is nova scotia labrador Prince Edward Island, any one of those lesser provinces out to the east, jutting out into the ocean, looking yonder across the pond. One of those, I think it might be Newfoundland.
Starting point is 00:29:46 They do half an hour, a shift from the rest of the world, basically. I mean, I'm sure there are other regions across the globe that do some funky things with time zones. I mean, don't get me starting on China. it's a country that like stretches as far east-west as the U.S. basically and they're on one time zone when they should be on like four or five how does that work you like cross the border not that this is happening all the time but if you cross the border from like Vladivostok into China what you like go back you lose like four hours or something wouldn't it be crazy if you
Starting point is 00:30:29 you have dinner and at 5 p.m and then you cross the border and you go to a nice little cafe for lunch. I mean, what do we think that is? We'll do a quick little, we'll use our clock app here to check. Go to the World Clock. But while we're doing that, yeah, the New Finland being like half an hour, it's just, it's terrible. Why can't we all, you know, 24 hours in the day, that's enough there.
Starting point is 00:31:01 We can all be on a standard bottom of the hour, top of the hour, or whatever kind of thing, not the bottom of the hour. Newfoundland just had to be its own thing. It really doesn't affect me at all. I just think it's stupid. And I want that written down. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:20 So last thing, we're going to check here, and then we got maybe one or two more things, and our trivia question will wrap up. Time in Vladivostok, Russia. So if you don't know, this is like all the way far east, it's like the only big city in East Russia. 8.43 a.m. in Vladivostok.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Russia and then Beijing because they're like all in the same time zone right or it might be it might be flipped we might have to go to like far western China for this to make sense if you catch my dig Beijing 643 a.m. That's not as drastic as I was hoping for does it work the other way like what time so it's 643 in Beijing what time is it in uh what do you think they're doing in um almatie kazakhstan isn't that a a city it's not shown up here on my my world clock here astana kazakhstan 3.44 a m none of this is hitting as hard as as as i wanted it to our clock search has been fruitless how many time zones should china have we'll see what AI has to say about this
Starting point is 00:32:41 should ideally have five time zones but it just has one time zone so it should range from plus five to plus nine five six seven eight nine that's five but instead they just use plus eight China and Newfound and you know people who want permanent standard time you guys just all
Starting point is 00:33:04 maybe go form your own timeless country all right we're moving off the time zones. I apologize. There was like half of a joke in there. Last thing here, before our trivia question, NFL training camp has officially opened for some select teams.
Starting point is 00:33:24 I think the Vikings' players report on, rookies report on Sunday and veterans on Tuesday, something like that. But I saw this Panthers linebacker, a second year guy. So they already got the veterans out there. He already messed up his knee today, which is too bad. My wife and I, you know her from the show, Rachie Baby 95, officially booked tickets to the Twin Cities late October, going to see Daniel Jones, Jonathan Taylor Thomas,
Starting point is 00:33:51 and the Indianapolis Colts square off at US Bank Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings. So looking forward to it, this will be my third ever game. Chargers, loss, lions, loss. And we'll see a, they can get their act together against the Colts. So looking forward to that. It won't get up to training camp this particular trip up to Minnesota,
Starting point is 00:34:19 partially because we're leaving the day it opens. But I don't know. I could have gotten a big citrus autograph when the rookies report. Isn't that just the coolest thing? The Vikings in the third round, they draft the nose tackle from Iowa State. Dominique Orange and his nickname is Big Citrus. This is perfect. We got big citrus on the Vikings.
Starting point is 00:34:44 And over here on the floor, sleeping, we got Big Mike. And from American Idol, I think season five, something like that, Michael Lynch with an E at the end, Big Mike Lynch. So there's a lot of big mics out there. Big gulps. Might have to get a big gulp tomorrow. It's good stuff. Let's finish this up here. I didn't come in with a particularly compelling trivia question off the top of my head,
Starting point is 00:35:15 so I went into Sporkel earlier today and thought, you know what, we're going to talk time zones a little bit. So let's play this geography game together on Sporkel. I think it's a three or four minute time limit. Four minutes it is. But we should be able to go faster than that. So the game essentially is going to be there's 28 cities, and we just have to put them in the right time zone bucket. So I'll just narrate as we're going and you can play along. I don't think there's any funny business with Alaska or Hawaii here.
Starting point is 00:35:49 What would be really fun to sort the Chinese cities into time zone buckets. And there's just one bucket. But this is, I think I clicked play when I found the quiz not to like scope out of the cities, but just to see the structure. So I think we're just doing eastern central mountain and Pacific here. But here we go. We're going to play the quiz. There's 28 cities.
Starting point is 00:36:12 I will talk it out as we go and see how you do. And hopefully we go perfect. But I don't know. I don't know if they're going to get tricky right out in Arizona. It's like they are Mountain, I think, is like their official thing. But everyone else in Mountain observes daylight savings. But then Arizona doesn't. I think that's how that works.
Starting point is 00:36:37 I guess we'll find out. I'm sure they are going to want to put Phoenix. here or something. So let's see. Four minutes on the clock. Here we go. Play quiz. Okay. You won't believe what the second city is. Okay. So Oakland is first. That's Pacific. Lock it in. And I think we do get instant gratification here or penalty tells us if we're right or wrong. Okay. So Tucson is the second city here. It's not Phoenix, but Tucson. I'm pretty sure the way it works with Arizona is they are mountain time, but when everyone else in the time zone, other states jump ahead from, you know, in the summer, they elect to stay behind. And so then they're on the same
Starting point is 00:37:19 level as Pacific time in the summer months, I believe is how that works. Let's test it out. Let's see if Tucson is in mountain time. It is. Okay. Philadelphia, 100% Eastern, lock it in. Atlanta, this is less than 100% because, you know, it gets weird of like Nashville and stuff, but Atlanta is eastern for sure. Okay. Tacoma, that's in Washington, CETAC airport. Tacoma would be Pacific time.
Starting point is 00:37:50 New York, presumably the one in New York. So that's going to be eastern time. It's about as far east as you can go. Cool. Okay, Oklahoma City. This is one where I feel like the non-geography buffs might start to get mixed up a little bit and try to get too fancy with like, oh yeah, Oklahoma, that's, you know, home on the range that's out west campfire songs.
Starting point is 00:38:11 But, no, I'm very positive that Oklahoma City is a central time zone city. So we'll put it on our central and we're right. Okay, El Paso, this is an interesting one because it is pretty, it's like at the far west edge of Texas, essentially. but I think Texas is a permanently central time state I might be wrong
Starting point is 00:38:35 I don't feel that confident in this one and I think the like time zone border down there is between New Mexico and Texas oh we got to move faster here so I'm going to go El Paso Central nope it was mountain first blood I messed up
Starting point is 00:38:48 Houston I'm pretty sure that's central Miami is eastern I'm mad we missed El Paso San Francisco is Pacific San Diego is Pacific, Seattle is Pacific, Washington, D.C., eastern. Las Vegas, this is another, oh, I can't remember. I think Las Vegas is doing Pacific now, but I'm not super confident in this one. I'm going to guess Pacific, but it could be Mountain.
Starting point is 00:39:19 It is Pacific. Okay, I changed it up to the last second. Detroit is Eastern, but it's very close to being sent. Central. Yes. Los Angeles Pacific. Milwaukee, definitely central. Dallas Central. Phoenix. Here we go. Well, if we said Tucson was Mountain, let's do Phoenix Mountain. There we go. Salt Lake City, I think, is like the epitome of mountain in my mind. Yes. Albuquerque. If El Paso's mountain, Albuquerque's got to be mountain. Yes, Minneapolis, Central. Denver Mountain. Nashville is a tricky one. I think. I think Nashville is central, and Louisville is eastern. Not that Louisville is here, but I think Nashville is central. Yes, that's a tricky one, I would bet for a lot of people. Boston is eastern.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Boise, well, our actual last one here, Chicago is central. So now we're left with Boise. I think Idaho's got a weird split going on. I think it's like the top. The Cordoline is Pacific to be with like Spokane and stuff. or maybe I've got that backwards. But eastern Oregon is mountain, so I'm going to say Boise is mountain as well. And it is.
Starting point is 00:40:37 So the one we messed up was El Paso. Let's just look at this here. Texas time zone map. The last thing I want to investigate to see like where the cutoff is. It's just the last two counties on the western tip. I didn't realize that until now. Yeah, so there's Hudspeth County, and then the last one, the western tip, is El Paso County.
Starting point is 00:41:05 And those two are on Mountain Times Zone, while the rest of the state is on Central Time Zone. Well, we got this map here. I've never looked at a county map of Texas before. I wonder if there's any really fun names. Titus County, Angelina County, Jefferson County. How many Jefferson counties do you think there are in the U.S.?
Starting point is 00:41:27 A lot? Cattle County, that's fun. Swisher. Def Smith, how about that? We might not top that in the top part of Texas, a couple counties from the top. Def Smith. What a name. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if we're going to beat that, but I'll do a final scan here
Starting point is 00:41:51 before we get our outro music clued up here. This is a fun one. Glasscock. What's not to love? Tom Green. Val Verde. I'm thinking about Valver. Val, I can't say it.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Valveda. Not Valvita. Valvita. Real County, R-E-A-L. Real. Jim Hogg. H-O-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G-H-H-H-H-O-G-G-G-G. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Making our final scans here. Colorado County. Brazos County. What is that? Arm County in Spanish. Van Zant. Must be big cheap trick fans down there. All right. With that in mind, Johnson. Of course, there's a Johnson County. Let's end it there. Oh, what is that one? Thrack Morton. Throckmorton. I don't know. The text is too small. Throckmorton. I think I like Jim Hogg is really fun. Deft Smith and of course Glasscock. Probably be my favorites.
Starting point is 00:42:59 Let me check my list here. I think that's what we got for. We thank you for playing trivia with us.
