Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, well Rachel's not going to do the introduction. Hey, what's going on? My name is Quinn. This is my show. Quinn David Fernis presents the bean town podcast for Friday, August 19th, 2022. What's going on? How are you? What's happening? My name is Quinn and this is my show. We were one of the top 500 podcasts on the north side of Chicago. We're the People's Podcast and we are the 112th ranked comedy podcast here or there in the Islamic State of Pakistan. We got that sorted out. Rachel's shaking her head at me. It's true.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Me? I'm F. Football, AFF, ABLE, Charismatic. I can't spell that one. And joyous, I would say. Some people are joyful. I'm joyous and Mary for sure. What's happening? My name is Quinn and thanks everyone for, of course I already said that.
Starting point is 00:01:18 My name is my whole brand. I'm getting a lot of peeing. this is why we need a second microphone. You don't have to talk. You can just have your little peanut gallery comments. And people will be able to hear it. And then at least the jokes will be funny. Rather than me just like pausing for two seconds, well, you say something and then me responding. It's less fun for the listeners.
Starting point is 00:01:41 They're not in on the inside joke. And this is a family show. Bean Town is a community of inspired individuals coming together for the greater good. Like, what's they, they hold the sum is greater than the parts that proverb. I think that's a proverb seven or something like that. We are coming to you live on a Friday afternoon here and I'm really itching for a drink. I brought home like 10 cans of diet Pepsi from law orientation this week because we paid for them and I'm gonna get a little diet and while Turkey going on in a second here but I can't do a long recording today because I'm going to go work out right
Starting point is 00:02:31 after this right the bike for a little bit and it just seems like a recipe for disaster. Once I have that first sip I got to be careful too because ones I have that first sip it's been such a long week I'm just going to go down and I haven't packed yet so I got to make sure I do that. It'll been such a long week. I'm just going to go down. And I haven't packed yet. So I got to make sure I do that. It'll take me five minutes, but I got to make sure I do that. Because once I fall asleep, wake up at 7 a.m. Take the bus to the blue line. Boom. We're at the airport. We're going to Hawaii. That's what it's all been culminating towards. Thanks everyone who listened to the last five installments, our five-part US 50 states power rankings from last week.
Starting point is 00:03:18 It was quite a journey and a special shout out to brother of the podcast Walt Furnace, who made a fun little visualization map with the five different categories each having a different color or shade, if you will, to represent where they ranked. Deep South was a lot of red. And then you got to your North Dakotas and Nebraska's and Georgia's, and it was slightly less red and then all the way to Minnesota, Washington, Hawaii and such.
Starting point is 00:03:52 A deep forest green, a Sequoia green, if you will. Sequoia green sounds like a good, I think it needed to like a linebacker for the 49ers and the early 80s or a female jazz singer from Harlem in the 30s. So, Koi, a green. That could be good. And I wanted to, before we get into today's topic, which has yet to be determined, Before we get into today's topic, which has yet to be determined, I wanted to revisit last week's bean town, poll trivia question of the week and then also also introduced another new, not a poll question,
Starting point is 00:04:35 or maybe something will pop up later in the episode, I don't know, but a new game, a word-al-inspired game that I was told about last weekend that I'm having a lot of fun with and I'd like to share with you all the listeners because I think my listeners are car are cultured. They enjoy fine arts they enjoy music and they enjoy competing for sure. But last week our question was a spin off of the week before. of the week before. Last week's question was, can you name the top five US state capitals by elevation? And we got a couple listeners response, I think. I don't know when got it on the, no one got it nail on the head. We had we had four out of five, I think. And we had zero out of five. Tallahassee was not a good guess.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I don't really know how to sugar coat that. Our washer and dryers freaking out. There's stuff falling all over the sides, which is the worst when that happens, because then you gotta try to squeeze in and get it out. And it's just Sometimes it goes into freak out mode and it gets really tough to get the stuff out Future Quinn problem But to tie this tie this thought off and then we'll pause and then I'll fix that
Starting point is 00:06:06 The five elevation five highest elevated US state capitals from Number five all the way to number one This is unofficial per reddit. We have Salt Lake City, Utah number five Carson City Nevada number four Denver, Colorado at three Cheyenne Wyoming at two and Santa Fe, New Mexico at one. So thanks everyone who did participate in another fruitful bean town podcast trivia question of the week. And the other thing I wanted to share with you was, you know, there's a million, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:40 word ol' inspired games out there. Well, I came across one, thanks to a recommendation from a friend last weekend that I wanted to share with you. I've had some fun with it this week. Today was a day where there is a song while I'll tell you what it is. Basically, it's like wordle but listening to a song. So they'll start off with a one second clip
Starting point is 00:07:02 and you try to guess the song. If you don't know it, then it goes to two seconds. And I think it goes like one second clip and you try to guess the song. If you don't know it, then it goes to two seconds and I think it goes like one second, two second, four second, eight second, 15 seconds or you lose something like that. And I've had ups and downs, like today was a down, I didn't even know what the song was. But two or three days ago was Lithium, by Nirvana
Starting point is 00:07:24 and I got that and I guess, number two. So a two-second clip. And then yesterday, my crowning achievement, me being the sort of pop fanatic that I am, I got hot and cold by Katie Perry, one-second clip. And it's not like we're just playing the course. So it's easy. It's just playing the course, so it's easy. It's just boom, start of the song, which is just like a drum, electronic drum beat kind
Starting point is 00:07:50 of thing. So it's pretty proud of myself. Anyways, let's go check out. Let's, we should do an episode live from the washer and dryer closet. It's just pretty cramped, but maybe next month, TBD, be right back. All right, crisis averted. Man, sometimes I don't know what the setting is, haven't figured it out yet, but when the washer or when the dryer's going,
Starting point is 00:08:14 the dryer's on top, it's one of those stackables, Lunchables stackables, mighty kids meals, sort of deals. The mighty kids meal never really stuck around, did it? That's not a thing, right? You can't just like go order a mighty kids meal. That was like a limited time, you know. So let's see. To finish the thought, the dryer just goes crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:41 And because we have very limited space, we put our detergent and fabric softener and sheets up there. And sometimes, Man, it just goes like a volcanic eruption. Okay, this is according to McDonald's Wiki. The Mighty Kids meal, you're going to learn something new on the show today. Because when's the last time you thought about a Mighty Kids meal? Introducing 2001 as a responsive burger king's big kids meal, I didn't even know that. The mighty kids meal was a variant of the happy meal. It was designed for children who had outgrown the traditional happy meal, but weren't yet ready to order a traditional combo. We've
Starting point is 00:09:17 all been there. Customers were able to choose either a McDouble or a six-count chicken nuggets as their entree, French fries or a gogert, strawberry yogurt as McDouble or a six count chicken nuggets as their Entrez French fries or a goger, strawberry yogurt as a side and a drink. The meal also included a toy. So how is that different from a traditional like McDouble combo meal or something? I guess you get the toy. The mighty kids meal was similar to the traditional happy meal included two additional nuggets for the chicken, McDouble, and McNuggets option and featured a Mac double instead of the happy meal traditional cheeseburger. I wonder how long it was around for. So it's literally the exact same thing as a happy
Starting point is 00:09:53 meal except two extra nuggets or the extra patty. So says yes, McDonald still offers the mighty kids meal. I guess because yeah, I didn't even think about that. You never really hear about it. I suppose you probably go to, you probably go to a McDonald's and they probably look at you funny. Cause you know, it was a loss to me actually heard
Starting point is 00:10:21 and advertise him on mighty kids meal, but I'm sure they still understand what it is. And I, but here's the thing, it might be a little outdated because you go to a half, you get a happy meal. You're only two options, the four piece chicken nuggets or the hamburger, like are those the only two things that you can get? I feel like they've got to have expanded their options
Starting point is 00:10:43 by now, right? You could probably get, you know, ramen, happy meal. You could probably get a surf and turf. So if you got the surf and turf mighty kids meal, that's twice the surf, double the turf. Okay. Speaking of surfing. Did I mention we're going to Hawaii.
Starting point is 00:11:04 We're gonna land in a little over 24 hours here. Gonna have to do some point break, recreation. It's gonna be fun. Point break, I watched back in like April or May, the original, the Kiana Reeves Swayze one, because I feel like it's one of those iconic films for better, for worse, and I watch it, and I just did not enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:11:31 I think it just wasn't in the right mindset, but it was just so poorly acted, and I never thought that the action was that great, so it was just kinda like, yeah, this is very average. I wanted to thank our sponsors here, Ho-Pride Oregon, when you need your home-inspected and central Oregon, guys, you got to call the experts, trust them, they're safe, they're certified, they'll get you taken care of,
Starting point is 00:11:57 Ho-PrideOregon.com or call 541-410-03 one six Steve picks up say hey Quinn sent me And hey the Cubs one beat Milwaukee eight to seven. That's pretty good back and forth of fair Also our good friends the Samson Q2U series you want crisp clear audio quality What we really need is a microphone that can pick up me when I'm two inches away from it But also Rachel from across the room. She's not here anymore but she had some she had some peanut gallery comments as she has had the last couple weeks since we moved in together and Man you're missing out on some comedy gold
Starting point is 00:12:41 But that's not Samson's fault. You know, Samson is, Samson is the everyday working man's Mike. You know, it's a mic you speak into not one where you pick up everything happening in the apartment. And with that being said, God speaks, he uses the Samson or with that in mind, I guess. Finally, our good friends cuts by Q Little neck trim little beer trim nose hair shaving Brazilian but wax whatever you need you know who had a lot of Brazilian but waxes and cuts by Q did not get the contract Love Island. I've I've seen a lot of love Island in the last month
Starting point is 00:13:23 so one of those shows where really like, like the shifting relationships aspect of it is kind of interesting. There's some good like betrayal and stuff, but then that's like 2% of the show, the rest of it is like, slow mo music montages of like girls and G strings and silly games that you know what I want I got a little bit of this like last week but I want more games
Starting point is 00:13:54 with consequences for losers I want to legitimate like hey if you lose this you're probably going home right like you know like Hell's Kitchen or something losing team sends up two for for nomination. That's what I want more of a love island. Because right now it just feels so random and unpredictable. And just not, you know, it's okay. It's just okay. When you need to fresh do some a snap, you call the experts at cuts by Q or email us cuts by Q at Yahoo.com. You can also email the show.
Starting point is 00:14:30 We are beantown podcast at Yahoo.com. Again, that's beantown being podcast Yahoo.com. You also go to our website beantownpodcast.com, catch up on the latest beantown blog posts. I've had a couple. Couple is calendar year. What was the show we reviewed Euphoria? I think there was some, we had another one since then, maybe in June, I had a blog post, so. I'm keeping it pretty current, pretty hip, if you will. I wanted to just briefly give you some tips because we have a nine hour flight tomorrow
Starting point is 00:15:05 and I wanted to impart some wisdom. Maybe for the next time you have a nine hour flight, whether you're going from London to Dallas or Honolulu to Bangkok, it's probably a little bit more than nine hours. Or Vlad of a stock to Karachi. It's probably about nine hours. Maybe a little less. It's a hell of a flight though, non-stop. Here's some tips for what to do on a nine hour flight to help pass the time. I'm not saying I'm doing these tomorrow, I'm saying these are things you might consider trying. Number one, mix up your prescription medication and maybe you have a drink at the bar beforehand. Look, I'm not a medical expert, I'm an unregistered nurse, I'm not legally allowed to give you medical advice.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I'm just saying that probably it's either you're either gonna black out and it's gonna go great, time wise or you're gonna have the worst nine hours of your life or both. And really it's sort of a 50, 50 flip of the coin thing and I'm not here to predict what what the result will be. I'm just saying If you want to jump in head first That might be a good strategy
Starting point is 00:16:35 Number two read a book Americans. We don't read books anymore But it's something to consider But it's something to consider. Especially tomorrow because it's going to be light the whole time. So if you open up the window, you're going to get straight sun. Coming back, we have a red eye, but go in there straight sun. Leave at 10 in the morning. Get there three in the afternoon. Gain five hours.
Starting point is 00:17:03 You know what would be bad ass would be or two in the afternoon, nine hour flight. If you had a flight with unlimited fuel and you went west, you could just, if you flew at the right speed, you would never see a sunset again. How is that for like a futuristic sci-fi novel premise? The flight that never saw darkness or if you went east Kind of reverse you can never see the sun again. That's a little bit more depressing So reading a book not a bad idea You know, I just realized two seconds ago. Not that I really watched stuff on my fire tablet, which I've had for gosh, four years at this point. Maybe only three years. Three years in change.
Starting point is 00:18:00 But I noticed a couple, like a year ago or so year and a half, you can't listen with your headphones to anything on there. Like you can't watch a movie or a TV show for like Netflix with my headphones. Now if I'm not using my headphones, I was trying to volume up in the external speakers work, but obviously that's not a great idea on a plane or a bus. So I've just gotten into the habit of hoping that there's a TV mounted on the back wall of the seat in front of me and if there isn't, then I'm just S-O-L. I'll mention that listener discretion is advised when listening to being time podcast. I'm working on one, we'll late which I'm a two's podcast subjectly terrible. And we're getting closer wrapping things up here.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Last couple episodes were an hour each and I've just had a really long week working late. Although I did not have to work late on Tuesday unexpectedly, which was clutch, but every other day this week I've worked late. And I'm just ready for a break. And ready to stop talking. Today, even was crazy busy. Normally, a Friday would be like, not bad, but today was just so much for a variety of reasons.
Starting point is 00:19:21 But I'm winding down. I'm really more than anything excited to not talk Gonna hit the gym after this hit the bike still recovering a little bit I messed up my groin more than I should have at a 5k last week and Just not running this week and not gonna run next week just gonna use next week as an intentional break and Take I haven't run since last Saturday morning. So, feels weird.
Starting point is 00:19:52 I don't like it, but it is what it is, trying to get healthy. Other things to do on a nine hour flight, consider standing up at least once. I know we get comfy, you might have a nice blanket. You're digging into a good egg at the Christy novel, but I do encourage you whether or not you need to go to the bathroom to at least stand up once.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And do a little hokey-poky. Get the blood vessels shimmering. If you're blood vessels shimmer, see your doctor. Okay, that's not natural. I don't know if it's because you mixed your prescription medication and I drink it the bar before you went, but not really my problem. Okay. It's totally your call whether you take my advice or not. Most of these are experimental. Other things you can do on a nine hour flight, you can watch the entirety of Bob Patterson, the early late 90s early 2000s sitcoms, starting Jason Alexander, because I think they made like seven episodes.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Now it's, you're gonna have a harder time finding that on the inflate entertainment these days, but if you make a special request, call United, get on the helpline tonight, get on hold for two hours, make a special request for United 219. Maybe they'll hook you up, I don't know. Other things you could do in honor of united you could listen to George Gershwin's rap city in blue
Starting point is 00:21:35 27 times on repeat That's that's pretty torturous. I do love rap city in blue, but 27 times in a row is a lot It's actually probably a little bit more right rap city in blue is like 15 16 minutes Wapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwapwap window you can see Monica. So you think they have a special ti Kia store on the big island of Hawaii M O M A U N I K E A Monica. It's a volcano themed store. It's a big ground floor and then by the time you get to the top it's just like 10 square feet. I think that'd be bad-ass Not that monochia's Crater is 10 square feet, but it's scaled for size, right? You can't make an action like Kia the size of monochia. That's just crazy. There's no room on the island, right? There's only room for one monochia. You can't have a
Starting point is 00:23:01 Anachia, that's an exact replica, okay? So get off my back about the math. Those are mostly my ideas. You could poke the person next to you, which is Rachel or a stranger, because I valiantly volunteered myself for the middle seat. So just hoping it's not like
Starting point is 00:23:27 an offensive lineman or something. I would love like a 60-year-old 85-pound Asian lady who sleeps the whole time and her legs are so small and short that you can get out into the aisle without even waking her up. That's the American dream. That's what I've been living 27 and a half years for right there. Hey, if you are Bean Town podcasts call the action a week,
Starting point is 00:24:02 if you have any other hot tips for how to survive a nine-hour flight, maybe you've done it before, or maybe you're just speculating, you can email the show, beantonepodcastyahoo.com and get us beantonepodcastyahoo.com and let us know what you think. Guys, that's what I've got for you. I could go on and on and on, but I'm not going to, because I want to work out, and I want to shower shower and I want a cool bev and That's just the way it is I hope everyone is doing well. I hope that you're having a good week
Starting point is 00:24:32 We might do a little recording action ahead some having not had. I'm currently having a hiccup with my voice recorder It only works when it's plugged into a USB So if I wanted to use the voice recorder, I would have to be like plugged into the wall, like my iPhone charger, but not the core, just the plug. In theory, what I could do, I'm not going to do this for this trip, because this is ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:25:01 But if I ever wanted to use the recorder, for anything really in the future, I ever wanted to use the recorder, for anything really in the future, I would need to whip out the extension cord. This would be the silliest looking thing of all time. You'd have the Sony handheld recorder with a USB stickin' out of it, plugged into like the USB wall charger that goes into the outlet,
Starting point is 00:25:19 plugged into an extension cord, plugged into an actual outlet, which would just be ridiculous, but it works in theory. But I don't know, I can't, I switch the batteries and everything it just won't go. So, really nice, no explanation. Oh well. I hope that you're having a good week.
Starting point is 00:25:39 I hope you're enjoying, back half of August here. Can't believe it's almost September, almost football season. Not sure what next week's episode is going to be like, because we get back midday Saturday, jet lagged as hell. So if I make time, record something from my laptop, and then put that in the upload that to SoundCloud
Starting point is 00:26:00 or something like that, I don't know. We'll figure it out. That's what I got for you. I'm going to go to or something like that. I don't know, we'll figure it out. That's what I got for you. I'm gonna go to Waikiki Beach and sip on some rum or something and you won't hear for me. Except for the occasional social media post. State number 50 coming in hot. Stay safe, stay sane. I'll check in on you next time. Bye. I'm just gonna go. nd nd nd nd nd nd
Starting point is 00:27:32 nd nd nd nd nd nd Thank you.
