Starting point is 00:00:00 One of the greatest superpowers you can develop in life is inner confidence. And today's episode is exactly about that. Guys, welcome to the Bedros-Coolian show. My name is Bedros-Culian. Today, we're going to do a deep dive into building inner confidence. And the reason I'm talking about inner confidence is because today with social media, so many people out there are out flexing fake confidence. Fake confidence is external confidence.
Starting point is 00:00:24 So external confidence might be a fancy watch, nice clothes, you know, going on a trip somewhere and taking. taking a photo shoot, renting a Lamborghini or a private jet for the day and a hangar somewhere and taking photo shoots implying that you paid for it all and that's your jet. That is false confidence because anytime you meet those people in real life, IRL, as the kiddos call it, you get to see that they can't even make eye contact. They can't stand straight. They look either past you or they look at your feet because they have no true track record because external confidence is all about the flash. It's almost like if you go to Universal Studios,
Starting point is 00:01:00 and you're taking that tour and you're like, wow, this looks like New York City. And then you turn the corner and you realize it's all just a front. It's just a front. It's artwork. But then there's no building behind the artwork. It just looks like the front of all these different buildings that you're familiar with with the New York City skyline. But then as that tram turns the corner, you realize there's stilts holding up these fake walls
Starting point is 00:01:23 that are painted on, right? And so that's external confidence. Internal inner confidence is this certainty. that you have. It is this undeniable feature that is within you that says, I finish what I start. I have a track record of achieving things that most people have not. And therefore, I have experiences in ways that others don't. And I have been broken more times than I care to share. And each time you are broken and you build yourself back up, you become more unbreakable. And that's is inner confidence, you see, and people can sense that energy on someone, just like they can sense
Starting point is 00:02:06 desperation. You've been around someone who, you're like, man, they look confidence on social media and their videos and their posts, and then you meet them in real life and they look insecure. Why? Because it's one thing to perfectly alter and tailor a piece of content and caption and music and edits to make you look larger than life. It's another thing to see them in person and then realize, oof, they are lacking what they profess that they had online. And that's because they really don't have the track record. They really haven't done what they have. And this is like when I talk about online,
Starting point is 00:02:40 when I say there's a lot of people who profess but have never practiced, right? All these online business coaches that you see. So many of them out there profess but have not practiced, meaning they haven't built businesses. They haven't dealt with the shit. They haven't made hundreds of millions of dollars. They haven't had an exit or a sale. And so they don't know how it is to.
Starting point is 00:02:59 lead people, build teams, have marketing campaigns, sales teams, be betrayed by your business partner, find yourself in a ton of shit, hemorrhage money, solve through the problem of hemorrhaging money. And all of those things, by the way, end up building massive inner confidence, an unshakable, undeniable inner peace, right? And so you can look at inner confidence as the gas pedal. When someone has inner confidence, man, it's like there's a gas pedal and they just know how to mash it and stay on it. Where someone that is lacking the absence of inner confidence is naturally the brake pedal of life, right? These are people that have ideas but don't execute. These are people that start but never finish. These are people that talk about it but never do
Starting point is 00:03:45 it. They profess, but they don't practice, as I said, right? These are the people who have maybe broken promises to others and themselves. And so how do you build inner confidence that makes you unshakable, unbreakable, and undeniable? Well, let's dive into it, because I think you're going to get a lot of value out of this episode, even though it's a shorter, more impactful episode. So the goal of developing inner confidence is this.

Well, imagine this.
Starting point is 00:05:29 If you have a friend who you reach out to and you're like, hey, man, let's go and work out. Tomorrow, let's you and I go work out. And your friend's like, cool, man, what time? You're like, 8 a.m. Sweet. 8 a.m. I'll be over. 8 a.m. comes tomorrow morning. Your homie's not around.
Starting point is 00:05:46 You text them, you call him. And it's like, oh, man, I slept in. Didn't work out. You're like, all right, no worries. How about tomorrow morning? We go then. The next day. Cool.
Starting point is 00:05:54 What time? 8 a.m. done. 8 a.m. comes the next day. Homie's not there. 8.15 comes. He shows up. Disheveled.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Late. You guys get to the gym. He's complaining. He wants to cut the workout short. There's not enough time. He's got to go to work. That's because he didn't show up on time. Right?
Starting point is 00:06:11 The next day you guys plan on working out together. Again, he flakes. Doesn't show up. You call him. He's like, bro, I slept in. My alarm didn't go off. Soon you're going to stop calling this guy or texting this guy and inviting him to work out with you. Why is that? Well, because you kind of lost
Starting point is 00:06:25 respect for him. You don't trust him. You don't believe that he honors his own time, let alone values your time. And so you begin to distance yourself from him, right? You lose what confidence in him. So if it's plausible that you could lose confidence in somebody, isn't it also plausible that you could lose confidence in yourself? Absolutely. And how do we lose confidence with ourselves? Simple, by breaking the promises that we keep, that we try and keep or make. And when I see people say, like, I'm going to wake up at a certain time and then they don't. They hit the snooze button. You're breaking a promise. You think that's inconsequential. You think it's small. It's insignificant. It's not that big a deal. I'm here to tell you, you're wrong. You're wrong. Even the smallest
Starting point is 00:07:14 of promises that you make, you have to keep. If you don't, you're telling your subconscious mind, you're giving a message, you're sending a frequency to your subconscious mind that you are a promise breaker. And therefore, you don't have credibility with yourself. You no longer have confidence with yourself. See, confidence, inner confidence specifically is like a credit score. Each time you make promises and you keep them, you build your credit score, right? Each time you pay your bills on time, you pay your credit card on time, you're never late.
Starting point is 00:07:48 you start building your credit score. And because of that, people have more confidence in loaning you money to buy a house, to start a business, to get a car. Right. If you can build your credit score, that means you've built your reputation. That's all the credit score is, is your reputation with the world that says, this person pays their bills on time. They keep their promises. They spent the money and they're paying on time. And therefore, we feel confident in loaning this person more money. Now imagine if you didn't pay your bills on time and the bill collector started to put you into collections and your car gets repossessed and your home gets foreclosed or there's a lien on your mortgage, right? All these things happen. Well, what's happening? Your credit
Starting point is 00:08:35 score is falling. It's eroding. When you go to try and get a loan, you're more likely than ever to get denied for a loan after that, right? And if you do get a loan, it's going to be much smaller than you wanted and the interest rates are going to be through the roof and the terms are going to be horrible horrible like you miss one payment and the whole fucking thing is going to be due right because they don't trust you they've lost confidence in you based on your past that is your reputation so your reputation with yourself is your confidence your confidence how much confidence you have that's your credit score with yourself and if you say you're going to wake up at 5 a.m. and then go work out wake up at 5 a.m. Don't hit the snooze button. Go work out. Keeping those promises
Starting point is 00:09:18 end up building your personal credit score, your reputation with yourself. Once you're able to keep your promises to yourself, then you can start working on other people, keeping promises to other people. See what most people will do, they'll put others first. Oh yeah, man, I'll show up for this person, I'll show up for that person on time, I'll show up for that person and do the thing. But you don't show up for yourself. And that's the greatest disservice you could do to yourself because you are eroding confidence. And remember I said the lack of inner confidence is the breaks on your life. Hey guys, quick interruption to the Vedderos Koolian show. Listen, if you're like me and you love fitness, you love helping people and you love being an entrepreneur, you might want to open up a

Starting point is 00:10:35 When you have inner confidence and the higher and stronger your inner confidence, the more gas pedal you have on your life, the more things you are to go and adventure and do and seek out and want to go dominate. Why? Because you believe that when you say you're going to do something, you will. You're a promise keeper, right? But if you're constantly breaking promises to yourself and others, you're now pumping the breaks on life.
Starting point is 00:11:01 You go, oh, I got this idea how to make more money. I got this idea and how to get in shape. I got this idea and how to have a great relationship. But I'm not going to execute. I don't trust myself. I don't think I'll finish because the last time I started something I didn't finish. because the last time I started something I didn't finish. So why even start this because I'm not going to finish it?
Starting point is 00:11:13 And now you see yourself as a loser. So no one else will tell you that, but I will because I care for you. I love you. I want to see you become the best version of yourself. It's the little decision. You tell yourself you're going to quit alcohol, but you don't. You're breaking a promise. Your subconscious mind says, this guy, you can't trust him.
Starting point is 00:11:33 This guy has no credibility. This guy lacks confidence. And then boom, you subconsciously. slam the brakes on your life. You inadvertently end up late to an interview and you miss out on a great career. You were going to go to that event and get pumped up and motivated and inspired. But last minute you decided not to because you don't really follow through with what you say. Anyway, why go now? It's just going to cost you money, plane ticket, hotel, event ticket. But the last time you went to an event, you didn't follow through. So you're like, ah, I'm not going to go and follow
Starting point is 00:12:08 through, I'd rather spend that money on buying some weed, drinking more booze, doing some more stupid shit, right? So I'm here to tell you, man, one, start keeping promises to yourself, little promises, stack little Ws throughout your life every day. Those little Ws start stacking into bigger wins in life. Number two, start taking on new challenges, new skills. If you don't run, go run, do jujitsu, MMA, Muay Thai, go figure out, start reading. reading books, start doing new things that you know are going to benefit you in life.
Starting point is 00:12:44 No one says you have to read a book from beginning to end in one sit down. You can commit to reading three pages a day, can't you? You can commit to reading three pages a day, 15 minutes of reading. And now you experience a new adventure through someone else's lens. That might inspire you to go do something different in your life. Maybe to change a bad habit. Maybe to start eating right. to start speaking well.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Go join Toastmasters and learn to speak. Every town, every city has a Toastmasters where they teach you how to speak and give a toast and you're in a crowd of people. Go join a running club. Like do things that are new to you that are outside of your comfort zone. And then the third thing is,
Starting point is 00:13:25 everything that you decide to execute on, in other words, everything that you start to do, execute and complete. See, what ends up happening and there's studies that show that you can build new, You know, pathways in your brain. You can. You can take on new skills at any age. Remember, I'm 51 now. At 48, I started jujitsu, Nogi Jiujitsu. And here I am going almost on three years now.
Starting point is 00:13:50 And my body and my brain has developed new neuro pathways to start remembering and executing new positions and submissions, right? I wish I would have started in my teens and 20s. I didn't. I didn't know about it. I wish I would have started my 30s and 40s when I knew about it, but I kept putting it off. And at 48, I started jujitsu. And it's crazy to see how something that involves so many things to remember while under pressure, stress, and fight or flight, right? Because you're not just like sitting in a cool environment, peacefully trying to remember and recall something. While someone is trying to break a limb or suffocate you or strangle you, you have to remember how to counter that, how to get out of that position, put yourself in a more advantageous position,
Starting point is 00:14:38 and then attempt a submission all while they're trying to get out of that, right? So if I could start that at 48 years old and build these new neuropathways in my brain, so can you. But guess what happens if you start something and you don't finish it? Brain surgeons have seen literally, while operating on people, these unfinished, undeveloped, incomplete neuropathways in people's brains. And then what they realized is, man, when these people go and finish what they started post-surgery and then they look at their neuropathways again, those neuropathways are complete. So if you've started things in the past, you started to execute and then you left things incomplete, go back and complete them, right? One rule that I created from my son and daughter
Starting point is 00:15:22 as they were growing up was, I don't care what sport you pick, what instrument you pick to play, guitar, piano, whatever, drums. We have to set a start. and a completion time, right? If it's, if it's soccer, for example, my son, Andrew when his soccer, you got to play the whole season. You can't just quit halfway through because you don't like it. If you like it, great. You don't like it? Great. Still got to finish it. We start and then we finish. And so when you start executing, be sure to start completing things, right? That's why I do the six-week challenges. I'm not going to commit to running my whole life. But I'm like, you know what? I'm going to hire running coach. I'm going to train for six
Starting point is 00:16:02 weeks and then run a marathon, which is what I did some 13, 14 years ago. Since then, all those six week challenges stuck. I've done a ton of those six week challenges on different things. MMA, jujitsu, chess, improv, salsa dancing, guitar lessons. And for six weeks, I stuck to something. And at the end of the six weeks, I did the thing. And then if I liked the thing, I made it part of my life's hobbies and part of my life structure. If I didn't, I check. it off and I go, cool, man, I've run a marathon. Cool, man. I tried playing the guitar. It ain't for me. I got fat sausage fingers. But drums? I love drumming. I'm good at drumming, right? I started no ghee back in 20 or
Starting point is 00:16:46 gee jujitsu back in 2019 as a six-week challenge. After the six weeks, it didn't stick. It wasn't for me. I didn't like the ghee. I didn't like the lack of movement. I didn't like being held in place and having to hold others in place. I wanted fast, like dynamic movement. learned about no ghee, it was my bag, right? And so I'm here to tell you, man, if you can start keeping promises to yourself and others, if you can develop new skills, start taking on new skills and new hobbies and take on new adventures in life and put yourself out there like lean against the sides of your comfort zone. And finally, you can start executing and completing the things that you put your head to, even if it's a short timeline that you give yourself so that you can say,
Starting point is 00:17:26 I checked it off, or I like this thing, I'm going to continue the rest of my life, you, my friend, will develop amazing inner confidence. And when you do, it's all gas pedal. You start achieving more of your goals, more of your dreams, more of your ambitions, and no more break pedal where you have a fucking boring, mediocre average life. So guys, I hope you got a lot of value
Starting point is 00:17:45 from this episode of the Bedros-Cool-Cool-in show. And always remember this, that average is the enemy. Success is your responsibility. And change can take place in an instant if you are willing to flip the switch. I'll see you next time.
