Starting point is 00:00:00 Just surviving his mediocrity. Higher standards force you to operate at a level of excellence. Welcome to the Bedroft's Koolian show. There's a big fat lie they're telling men and fellas, I'm going to tell you the truth. And I'm going to tell you exactly what this big fat lie is and how it is slowing you down, keeping you fat, broke, dependent, and dumb because they keep telling you that showing up is half the battle. Well, I'm here to tell you that showing up is exactly. none of the battle. Now, I've been seeing this a lot lately, man, like gurus and influencers on social
Starting point is 00:00:37 media talking about like, hey, man, if you just show up, showing up is half the battle. No, it's not. It's exactly none of the battle in business. It's none of the battle in fitness. It's none of the battle in fitness. It's none of the battle in a relationship. It's none of the battle on a sports team. And I've never been in combat, but I can tell you that showing, up alone does not help you win the battle and it's certainly not half of the battle right what you need to understand is the people on social media who are telling you that showing up is half the battle just show up are the same people who are placating you because they are either looking to sell you something or they're trying to get engagement likes comments to go viral and so they're trying
Starting point is 00:01:24 to pander to your emotions of feeling bad for yourself a feeling sorry for yourself guess what you might have times in seasons where you're losing and not winning it's just a fucked up season of life for you or in business or in relationship but you still got to show up and you still got to go to battle the best you can in those losing seasons and i share this with you because the big lie has been that showing up is half the battle these are the same people then who would encourage you that if you just show up you can get a participation trophy this is how to people got soft and weak. This is how society began to degenerate into accepting mediocrity as the highest standard and the highest form of achievement that if I just survive, no, you're not supposed to survive,
Starting point is 00:02:16 you're supposed to live, you're supposed to thrive. Just surviving is mediocrity. Higher standards force you to operate at a level of excellence. And you only do that when you show up and go to war. So think of this for a moment. I'm going to help you guys out for a moment. So all these bullshit scammers, I've heard preachers and pastors say this on social media. I've heard thought leaders and gurus say this. I've heard influencers say this. Just show up. Showing up is half the battle. It is none of the battle. Do you understand? Because imagine if you just showed up to the gym on a regular basis, but you had no plan in terms of workouts. You didn't know what machines and equipment you're going to use.
Starting point is 00:03:04 And I've seen this in real life when I was a personal trainer 20-some-odd years ago at LA Fitness. I worked there for three years. And I would see the same people showing up. And they would just aimlessly wander around for 30, 40 minutes, doing random machines. They wouldn't even adjust the seat, adjust to handles, adjusts. to wait. They would just sit on a machine and whatever setting it was on from the last person, they would just crank out 100 repetitions or three repetitions and then move on to the leg machine
Starting point is 00:03:35 and a shoulder machine and then aimlessly wander around do some lap pull downs. And then they would always walk to that juice bar near the exit of the gym and then buy themselves a 500 to 700 calorie smoothie. And over time I'd see them coming to the gym regularly, showing up, but fatter, more out of shape. Why? Because they were consuming more calories than they were actually expending. They weren't really working out hard enough and intently enough to break down any muscle for their bodies to rebuild it. There was no intention, plan, or execution behind showing up. And therefore, they got fatter. You may have seen this in your relationship or in someone else's relationship. Two people who just do the bare minimum in a relationship. They just show up.
Starting point is 00:04:29 He doesn't open the door for her. She doesn't show appreciation and gratitude for his hard work. They essentially just neglect the relationship. They neglect each other. They take one another for granted. They just show up to the relationship. And you know what happens? They soon becomes two ships passing in the night. They begin to. to build resentment from one another. And over time, they're either separated, divorced, or even worse, they're in the relationship and absolutely resent and hate each other. Showing up is none of the fight, none of the battle.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Let's look at the business front. Could you imagine, if I was like, well, you know, I created this brand called FitBody Boot Camp. I created a logo. I created the idea of it. It's a group training program. And, you know, I hired some people. I got some graphic designers to make a website. I've showed up.
Starting point is 00:05:31 No, that is exactly none of the battle. That is like the bare essentials to do. Because I only win when I make a sale in business. When I sell a franchise location to someone who wants to own one in a specific territory so that they can open that thing up and help people burn fat and build muscle. and they can make money so that I can make money. That's how it works in franchising, right? I sell a franchise.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I help them build out their location, do their marketing, do their sales, fill it up, deliver results to hundreds of clients. And then when they make money, I get royalties out of it. That is winning. That is the battle. That's the battle. The sale. The revenue.
Starting point is 00:06:12 The profits is the battle. And then let's look at a sports team. How many millions of dollars do pro athletes get? paid, whether it's baseball or basketball or football, they don't just get paid to show up to the court. They don't get paid to show up to the field. Could you imagine? I just get paid to show up. No, that's why you hear they get traded. They get traded. They have expectations set on their contracts. If they don't get that ball in the basket or knock that ball out of the park or if they don't run that ball into the end zone, they get paid for done. The battle is paid for done. The
Starting point is 00:06:51 is one when you do the thing you're supposed to do that you are obligated to do. In business, it is to generate profits. In the gym, it is to actually put on muscle and burn fat. In your relationship, it is to create a meaningful, loving relationship to raise a beautiful family in with core values and make that next generation better than the one that you came from. and in sports you better get that ball across the end zone over the fence or in that basket because just showing up to the courts is not enough and when you've been told that showing up
Starting point is 00:07:33 is half the battle you begin to believe that and therefore you begin to accept the bare minimum I don't even want to call that the minimum don't even show up if you think half the battle is that Well, people buy a ticket and they show up to a ball game. You think they're going to get paid millions because they showed up? No, man, you got to get off the bleachers onto the field. And that's still not half the battle. When you're on the field, you better start fighting. Whatever field it is, the field of relationships,
Starting point is 00:08:05 the field of business, the field of your health and fitness, or your mental health. Listen, man, I know people that go to therapy, and year after year after year, they're still the same degenerate fucks. Why? Because they show up, but they don't practice what their therapist has suggested to them. And so they are just dysregulated, emotionally bankrupt, mentally corrupt, humans. It's unfortunate. They live in a state of constant anxiety and stress and depression because they keep doing the things that kept them in that stress, anxiety and depression.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Just now they have a therapist that they pay $250 a session to. Showing up to a therapist does not have to battle. Knowing what to do is not have to battle. Doing the things over and over again and not getting results is not half the battle. Doing it until you get the results. That's the battle. That's the battle. The battle is the execution.
Starting point is 00:09:14 The battle is doing the work. The battle is failing once, twice, 10 times, and getting back up with enthusiasm and executing again with the expectation that this time I will win. And if you don't, you get back up again and you execute. But I'm telling you right now, man, everyone who tells you that showing up is half the battle, they are just placating you. They are just stroking you to make you feel good about yourself. Why? Because you will like that. You will leave a comment. You'll say, thank you for that. I needed to hear that. Fuck that shit. You know what you need to hear? Guys, quick break from the show to tell you all about this. Did you know that you need three roots of turmeric? And you're still not getting everything you need. And that's why I created the Trulene Everyday Wellness Shot. Starting point is 00:10:20 mix it up and drink it. And when you do, it tastes like orange juice with a kick of ginger and turmeric. Best of all, you get your 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C, ginger, turmeric, vitamin D, zinc, B12, echinacea, astragulus, and now we've loaded it up with electrolytes to keep you hydrated all day long. Starting point is 00:10:55 Use my name Bedroast to get 50% off and order the best damn supplement that you will ever try. Peace out. You need to go to war with the demons in your head. You need to execute and change your habits. You need to change your routine. The routine and the habits that you will. taking led you down to this path of being broke, being fat, being dependent, being dopey, being desperate, being depressed.
Starting point is 00:11:21 You showed up to everything. Fuck. I showed up to school. As a young boy, I showed up to elementary school, junior high, and high school. I barely passed. I barely passed. If I wanted to get into college, I couldn't even gotten into college. My grades were so bad.
Starting point is 00:11:39 When I say I barely passed, I mean, I had to beg my kids. counselor a week before graduation, please let me graduate. Let me graduate. We're from Armenia. My parents brought me to this country. I'm going to be the first person to graduate from an American high school. Please let me graduate. I showed up, but I didn't do any work. I didn't learn anything in school. Now, if you've watched past episodes, you also know that I'm self-taught, self-educated, and I learn by investing in the things that I feel will benefit me. I love entrepreneurship. I learned how to become one of the best in the world.
Starting point is 00:12:19 I love personal growth. I've done the deep work, and I've worked with the therapist, and I've hired the coaches and the experts. I've read the books, and I've applied it to my life over and over again until I got results. And just recently, even, when more work was exposed to me that I needed to do, I was like, fuck it. That version of me will be dead soon, too. I will execute and execute and execute until I've won that battle.
Starting point is 00:12:41 But showing up is not half the battle. I showed up to school. And I should not have graduated. I should not have a high school degree right now. But I do because I've got the gift of gab. And I persuaded this counselor to actually let me graduate. Bitch was out of her mind for letting me do that. What the fuck.
Starting point is 00:13:04 And so I'm here to tell you, man, you got to raise. your standards number one number two you have to understand that the battle requires many micro fights you don't just show up once to the battle the battle exists in your head it exists in your heart and exist in reality and you have to show up and when you battle and you fight sometimes you're going to lose sometimes you're going to get knocked out sometimes you're going to get knocked down each time you have to get back up you have to dust yourself off that's what it takes You've heard that before, right? Dust yourself off and do it again.
Starting point is 00:13:37 People say less of that today and they say more of the well, showing up is half the battle. You know why? Because no one wants to hear on social media that you just showed up. You didn't put in the effort. You thought showing up was enough because that's how the world has conditioned you and they've given you participation trophies and certificates and fucking ribbons for showing up. And now you've been conditioned it.
Starting point is 00:13:59 If I just show up to the relationship, it's good enough. If I just show up to work, it's good enough. fuck you, I'm firing you first if you just show up. If I just show up to this battle, it's good enough. If I show up to the sport, it's good enough. If I show up to the gym, no, it's not. It's not. That's why 82% of gym members don't get results.
Starting point is 00:14:18 That's the reality. The actual stats are 82% of gym members year after year do not get results that they're looking for. They look the same or continue to get fatter. Now, one might argue, well, they're there to kill time. Sure. if they have time to kill, I don't have time to kill. I can make more money. I can't make more time.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Why would I want to try and kill time? Waste time. Fuck. It's that mindset of time to kill that you end up on the couch. Watching four or five hours of sports every Saturday and Sunday, rooting for a team that you don't own, cheering for men whose names that you wear on the back of a jersey, who if these men saw you wearing their jerseys on the street would not stop you
Starting point is 00:15:02 and tell you thank you. Why? Because you are contributing to their wealth. You are contributing to their wealth. You're cheering on their wealth. You know their stats. You know how fast they run. You know how far they throw.
Starting point is 00:15:13 You know how many points they make per season. But you don't know the favorite color of your daughter. You don't know exactly what hobbies your son is into. You forget the meaningful dates and anniversaries in your relationship. Yet you know the stats of men whose names that you wear. on your shirt. Yeah, I'm just letting off some steam. You don't own the team.
Starting point is 00:15:38 They don't give a shit about you. You're cheering for them to win. You don't see them cheering for you to win. And then what do those commercials do on those shows? Well, they sell you food that's going to make you fat. Alcohol that's going to make you numb. So now you're killing time, entertaining yourself. Let's just call it what it is.
Starting point is 00:16:00 It's escapism. You're escaping your reality. Because if you liked the reality that you live in, you would not spend time watching grown-ass men running around on fields. And by the way, listen, look, I've had Super Bowl winning champions and pro-bodybuilders, like pro-athletes as coaching clients. I love them and I respect them. but I would never spend time hours at a time randomly cheering for a team that I don't know, an individual that I don't know. I've cheered for my coaching clients when they got on the Olympia stage.
Starting point is 00:16:45 I cheered for my coaching clients when they got on the football field. That was the extent of that. I cheered for my friends who fight in the UFC. But I'm not spending hours learning. stats. See, that is the whole mindset of just showing up as half the battle. No, you think those cats just show up to become pro fucking Olympians to win a Super Bowl ring, to win the fight and the belt at the UFC? No, they showed up. They trained. They got injured. They kept coming. They kept getting their face and head bashed in until they won. And that is the battle,
Starting point is 00:17:26 my friend. Yet you'll get people together, you'll sit around, and you'll watch them play. And then you'll wake up the next morning, halfway hungover, show up to the gym with no plan, no intention. And you think you got yourself a good workout. You give yourself credit because you think you got a good workout. You come home and you eat sloppy foods. You got fatter from that workout and you're wondering why it happened.
Starting point is 00:17:56 But then you're watching peptide videos. on YouTube and Instagram thinking that the next peptide that comes out is going to be the one that helps you. It's not. It's not. You must change your patterns of life. You must change your routine. You must change your habits. You must change the actions because the belief systems, the actions, the habits, the routines, the patterns of life have gotten you to where you are. I don't know if it's a financial situation you need to get yourself out of. I don't know if it's a relationship that you need to fix. I don't know if it's a business that you need to build or if it's your health that you need to solve. But I'm telling you right now, the showing up is half the battle mentality
Starting point is 00:18:34 is not going to help you one bit. Winning is the battle, period. End of story. As our friend Kamala Harris would say, hard stop for crying out loud. Guys, I want to see you win in life, man. And we live in a time where inflation is through the roof. Gas prices are high. Tons of uncertainty in the world. But let's not forget. Almost 30 years ago, we had the same thing. You know, 2000.
Starting point is 00:19:10 It was the whole Y2K thing. Oh my God, it's going to turn the year 2000. And all of a sudden, everything's going to shut down computers and technology. And it's going to be the end of the world. I remember, I was alive. I was an adult. In 1999, November, December, people were emptying out their bank accounts, thinking all their money is going to disappear because everything's going to turn
Starting point is 00:19:29 to zeros, they said, right? That's not what happened. And between the time of Y2K, of January 1st, 2000, to like, I don't know, 18, 20 months later, we had Y2K to worry about. We had an economic crash to worry about. we had the 9-11 world trade centers coming down and the terrorist attack on this country. Let's not forget if you've been old around long enough
Starting point is 00:20:03 and you're old as me, you remember anthrax on the news, not the band, anthrax, the poison, showing up to people's homes and envelopes. Like there's always uncertainty in the world. Understand that. Their job, the opposition's job, the newscasters,
Starting point is 00:20:21 I don't care if it's Fox News or CNN. Their job is to put fear, doubt, and uncertainty in your head and your heart. And they've been doing it for as long as I've been alive. Then in 2008, the housing market crash. I wasn't just, I'm going to show up and build Fit Body Boot Camp. I fucking started Fit Body Boot Camp doing the housing market crash. The market crash in 2008. By 2010, unemployment was at 11.5, 12%.
Starting point is 00:20:48 And I'm starting Fit Body Boot Camp. trying to max out my credit cards, refinance my home, go into massive debt. It wasn't just a, I'm going to show up and it's going to be half the battle. I was like, I'm going to fucking show up in battle until I win. That's how FitBody Boot Camp became an Inc. 5,000, Inc. 500 company. That is how we built this thing to Entrepreneur Magazine's top 200 franchises in the world. Do you understand that?
Starting point is 00:21:17 That's how we survived and thrived after the pandemic. It was not the show up. enough. The fucking team would show up here every day during the pandemic and we'd have three level 10 meetings a day so that we can message to our franchisees all over the country and all over the world. What they need to do next to stay in business, to keep serving their clients, to keep making money. It was we are in battle and we're going to win. Now we've showed up and we hope we win. There's a difference there. We're in battle and we're going to win. And I would never know if I lost because I'd be dead.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Like, but what if you lose? I would have to die to lose. I need you, my friend, to adopt that mindset, that I will have to die in order to lose. And that means if I'm alive,
Starting point is 00:22:13 showing up alone is not enough. I must set higher standards and expectations for myself. I can no longer, you can no longer, except mediocrity as the standard. Fat floppy tits that I can milk should not be the standard.
Starting point is 00:22:28 stretch marks around your waistline and belly button, my friend, should not be the standard. Wearing crocs as a grown-ass man. Man, around town should not be the standard unless you're going to jujitsu and sir jujitsu. Crocs that you're wearing, I get it, I get it, I get it, I get it. All my jujitsu friends, I get it. I wear flip-flops, you were crocs, all good. We get on the mats with clean feet and we don't rub our toe jams on each other. I get it.
Starting point is 00:22:53 The rest of you, going to the gas station, to the grocery store, surviving through life in your crocs. Shut the fuck up. What are you, child? And there it is. So I hope you got a lot of value from this episode. And if you did, do me a favor and share it on social media. Take a screenshot and share it on social media. Let's wake some motherfuckers up, man.
Starting point is 00:23:13 And if you didn't, well, I don't know, man. Maybe you should stop following me, subscribing, and all that shit. But if you truly did get value, it would mean the world to me, especially if you're on YouTube that you subscribe to the channel, that you like and comment so that you can message to the algorithms. to share this with more men so that we can speak into their heads and their hearts and wake more men up. There's never been a better time to win in life. But you have to show up to the battle to win.
Starting point is 00:23:41 And if you do, you will. Guys, thank you for watching this episode of the Bedros-Coolian show. And remember this that averages the enemy. Success is your responsibility. And change can take place in an instant if you are willing to flip the switch. I'll see you next time.
