Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of the Bellied Up podcast.
Bellied up.
I'm going to call this one the breakfast club, Charlie.
Yeah, we're just sitting here like a couple gentlemen having some coffee.
Yeah, it is.
No breakfast, just straight coffee, guys, jet fuel in the morning.
We don't need those carbohydrates and sugars and proteins.
Now, just give us that straight caffeine right to the dome, right, Miles?
And I also want you guys to know that you're about to get morning, Charlie, which means,
that what's up
he's uh he's more intense than after bright-eyed and bushy-tailed bright you know what
I did today miles I came in I was ready to podcast because Jared was like 815 we're hammering
to go well you told him 815 you said 815 check the text Jared no yeah I thought we're
started 830 I told the 815s earlier yeah so then he came in and he played
it off. He's like, yeah, Miles isn't ready yet.
He's just woke up.
Because I thought we were starting at 30.
I know, but I thought last night we said we were going to start at 9 and I said,
tell Charlie 830 so that he's ready to go.
And he went for a freaking 815.
You guys don't have any faith in me.
Well, either way, I'm happy you did.
I'm happy you did.
Look how ready you are.
You know what I got done?
And I was suckling coffee, which is why I'm so jacked up right now, Miles.
And while you were just washing your nether regions in the shower, you know what I was doing?
I was scoping and I was scoping the dryer vent.
Just brushing and scoping the dryer vent.
The dryer vent.
Yeah.
And you know why?
Yeah, you know why?
Because it wasn't drying well.
And you know what I found?
Guess how many mice?
Actually?
Yeah.
How many?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, my God.
Yes.
It's less than 10.
And if you guess it, you get a prize.
There was seven mice.
Guess again.
six guess one more time five yes you want to know what your prize is dust pants downstairs buddy all right
all right yeah but folks this is a good PSA it is a good PSA that is a good PSA that we have here on
the bellied up podcast drier fires happen more commonly than you think okay you get a buildup of lint
which is very flammable if you put lint in a little baggy and you take a camping and there's a storm
and you're about to freeze to death,
but you got a little flint and some lint,
you can make a fire and that fire could save your life.
That was another PSA.
I wasn't even planning on putting in here.
But that is an additional PSA.
Now to the original PSA.
This is what you get in the,
for morning trial, you get unlimited PSAs.
Keep going.
To the original PSA,
you guys have to check your dryer event.
I'm not talking cleaning the lint trap,
although you should do that every time you dry clothes.
Randa talking explicitly to my girlfriend right now.
I mean, I go over there, Miles, you know, after not being there for a few weeks.
You can't get the dryer, the thing out because it's so thick.
Oh, my God.
I pop it up.
I'm pulling.
I pull off a sweater every time, dude.
And she's like, ooh, don't do that in front of me.
I'm like, in front of you, you got to.
Anyways.
Why didn't she want to do it in front of her?
She thinks it's disgusting.
I'm like,
I don't know.
So this is a class, I have, I say it all the time,
gals can get away with stuff by just saying oopsie daisies.
Well, yeah, pretty much.
Oh, you walk in, you're like, you've got to be cleaning the lint trap.
And then you go, oh, well, oopsie daisies, I forgot.
And then they just get off the hook, you know, until the house burns down.
And then it'll be, oh, the house burns down.
Oopsie daisies.
You know, that's another oopsie daisies.
Maybe say the house is burned out that she's like, why are you yelling?
Why are you yelling?
It wasn't oopsie daisies.
You know what?
She actually, she's figured that out that like I've gotten over the oopsie daisy thing.
So when I get like upset at something, she knows exactly how to make me just calm down.
And I would love to know the answer to that.
She, um, she asks me how something works so I can mansplain it to her.
She knows how it works, but she goes, I just don't.
Nothing calms Charlie Barron's down more.
than mansplaining. Yeah.
And I go, it's important.
I get like all Dick Barron's.
It's important because if you let the lintz sitting there, okay, it's next to a heating
device and the lint and who's flammable.
All right.
Now that's going to set the place right up in flames, you know?
Gets me going.
Yeah.
God, why'd you have to shower, Miles?
I overdid it on the coffee this morning.
So anyways, back to the original PSA, guys, clear your dryer vent because it can start
on fire, start your house on fire.
and that would be a shame.
Did you know that you had a potential issue of mice in the dryer vent,
or that's a new finding for yourself?
No, I suspected as much.
When we were kids, we had a similar issue,
and my mom was actually folding clothes,
and she saw, she's like, oh, someone left their little toy in the wash.
Who had a mouse toy?
Oh, my God, that's a real mouse.
She dried the mouse.
So how do you, how do you prevent that?
You're just going to put something over the,
are they coming in from inside the basement?
Are they coming in from outside?
Like, you know, Miles, we're here in the Great North Woods.
We put our homes on the Mises home.
So they get to come in.
They get, they get rights.
They get rights.
They can come in if they want.
They can jump in the little,
and if they want to go down the drive-in,
it's not going to be pretty, but they can do it.
I can't stop them.
Because the way the little flappy thing works, right?
Can you put like a metal?
I could.
I could put a metal grate.
Yes, I could.
Unfortunately, though, that would create more drier vent clogs because that metal grate is going to be a snow fence for the, for the situation.
So I don't know.
I don't know what the right answer is.
It's probably you're right.
Put a metal grate on and then clear the dryer grate more.
Clear the dryer event more.
Yeah.
And it's just unfortunate because the dryer vent is underneath the deck.
So I had to get underneath the deck.
That's how I'm all dusty right now.
That is one advantage.
So at my house, I got the laundry room on the second floor.
So the dryer vent goes up a story higher.
Oh, you know.
Okay.
So then you can, the dry event goes up.
No, so the driver rent goes straight out.
Oh, that's nice.
So it's not on the ground level.
So we don't have to worry about mice getting in there.
Yeah.
Birds.
In my case, voles.
Bowls.
Oh, you're a big vole guy, huh?
I got lots of voles in my house, Charlie.
Now, is that our voles more populous?
I feel like we have voles here, too.
You know?
We saw one run across the road the other day.
But are you, where are they doing your grass?
Eating it all up.
You got mounds?
I got like traps and stuff now, so it's not as bad.
Oh, no, dude.
You're killing the bulls, man.
You literally have a trap in your garage.
I saw it.
No.
We literally swept up rat poison the other day.
Also, I did not.
First of all,
we were going to do something where the joke was I end up on the floor.
And Charlie's like, oh, oh, geez, let me sweep up this rat poison before you lay down here.
I don't even know where the rat poison came from.
I'm going to be honest.
And then Charlie got on the ground, looked under his workbench.
He goes, oh, that's where the rat poison came from.
Yeah, I didn't know that there was a rat poison thing here.
If you didn't put it down, who did?
I don't know.
Probably the previous owner.
But the thing is...
So you're anti-rat poison?
No, I don't really understand much about it.
So here's the only reason I would be against it
is if you had like a bunch of mice eating that poison,
then they run outside and a bird of prey eats them.
And then through biological amplification,
you impact that bird of prey.
Because I can't be out here killing owls, Miles.
Okay?
They're an endangered species.
So, I mean, you don't, you don't want to see a snow owl dead in your yard, do you?
No.
No, and we do have a snowy owl.
Yeah, in our neighborhood.
Right.
So the problem with the poisons, and I got to check into what's going on here because I don't know, and that's a problem.
But if I have these little mice, these little critters running out there, you know, that's like, that's like poisoning McDonald's, you know?
That's like putting rat poison in McDonald's, Miles.
Like, like, I get, forget.
That's a drive-through.
This is a fly-through for the, for the birds of prey.
The praying birds, Miles, the birds of God.
I know, but you're preaching to me, like, I should be using rat poison when you literally have it.
I know.
I'm not, I'm not preaching to you, Miles.
I'm preaching to myself.
I just see myself in you.
You see yourself inside of me?
Jared, I did not say inside of him.
You guys are making it sexual this morning, and I don't know that I like that.
What are we talking about today, Jared?
We've talked about it, Miles.
We've talked about it.
So it's Labor Day.
So if you guys weren't doing this job, what job would you have?
That's a great way to start it.
Miles, what would you be doing?
Well, before this, I was like trying to, like, do marketing, you know?
And so that business probably would.
wouldn't have been able to be sustainable in Fargo long term.
So I don't know what I would be doing now.
You'd be a for...
Would I be working concrete again?
I don't know.
You'd be a forester with me.
You know, would I just be my wife's secondhand man
just helping her shoot weddings?
And she's just the bread winner.
And I'm just her...
I just follow her around at weddings and shoot videos.
You guys did that for a while though, didn't you?
Yes, that was like her business.
and then I started helping her out
and then you bet you happened and then from there
but yeah she was she was doing pretty good
you guys you guys could have been at the top of the wedding
we could have been we could have been
god well we still could have had it all but instead you chose this
you bet your wedding films would go a long ways now I bet
they probably dude if you did that if you did a you bet
you bet you produced wedding video yeah except
for like it would be pretty like you know we like to we like talk about being you know
financially responsible yeah it's like so then i'm just gonna have to be like doing wedding videos for
like pretty cheap because it's like then it goes against you bet you brand you know oh yeah yeah
yeah dude every weekend shot every weekend shot oh it's the worst could you imagine sitting down
you guys and i know anne does this but could you imagine sitting down after filming like
12 hours of someone's wedding. I've done it before, Charlie. And editing it? Yeah. Oh, what's the secret to that?
I mean, you're just like, let's get the kiss in there. Boom. Three minutes is what you're getting.
So you put the kiss in, boom. Father and bride, uh, father or the bride, uh, bride dance, boom.
Mother son dance, boom. Cake cutting boom. Uh, best quote from each speech, boom, boom. And then wam,
bam, thank you, man. Yeah. And you want to, you also want to make sure that you're making this.
an emotional roller coaster for him.
Oh, really? Yeah. So, like,
if you can get people crying and, you know,
especially if you can get, like, the dad crying,
that always makes everyone else cry.
He's the guy who doesn't cry.
You know what I mean?
So you got a formula for this.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
How do you, so where do you start?
And then there's sometimes a dad, like, I remember,
God, and I still hate it to this day that this is like,
so there's a thing called the first look, Charlie.
I know your first marriage was a long time ago
and you probably this wasn't a thing back then
but basically
that's a double insult
which is really well played dude
high five on that one
you freaking prick
that was real good
in the wedding there's this thing called
the first look where so people
realize
I know what it is you don't have to explain
but it for the viewers
it calms me down to man explain this to you
just let me do it okay
So basically
Brides started realizing
that having the first time you see the bride
walking down the aisle
is not great for all of the rest of the day
and like getting photos and stuff done
before the ceremony is much better
for your schedule than it is
in between the wedding and the reception.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So like the only thing was holding them back from that
is like, I don't want to see the bride tell she's walking down the aisle.
So they developed this thing called the first look.
Wow.
And I didn't know that was the backstory.
Yeah.
I mean, it's basically just for logistics.
It's like, all right, if I see you at, you know, 10 a.m.
after we all get dressed, then we have a bunch of hours to shoot photos and get all
the stuff out of the way and we can see each other or whatever.
And then we'll do the wedding and all that.
Oh, is that also why they cut the cake before dinner?
Probably.
Dah, that always drives me nuts.
It's probably the before.
dinner so then when everyone else is eating they can go do sunset photos oh man it's what are we why
are we it's the entire wedding day is now just centered around photo and video shoot yeah should be
centered around god and his union of two people what god has united man must not divide amen
amen um so yeah and but the the the the ship part about that now charlie is it's now extending
just the groom doing the first look where he sees his bride all dolled up before.
Now they're doing dad first looks.
Oh, dad doesn't need to see that.
They're going to walk her down the aisle.
They're now doing joke first looks where the best man dresses up in a wedding dress
and the guy turns around thinking he's going to see his bride and it's actually his buddy in a
dress.
Oh, my.
They're cross dressing now in church.
Oh, my.
it not a hand and I remember this one bride that I did a wedding for she wanted the dad first look
and I took one look at the dad and I'm like this is not going in the video. What was he doing?
He turned around and it was like, yeah, nice. You look great. And he just like, she like tried to hug him
and then he just kind of like walked away. I was like, oh man. Oh, dude. So there was no
tears on that dad he probably probably was just he probably was just seething with how much money he was
paying you he's like is this why it was five thousand dollars extra where did you include that in
part of the package miles that first look i don't know i don't remember but uh so yeah it's gotten
it's gotten quite out of hand i mean the amount of first looks that are happening are just
and I think the shit part about the first look is like there's a lot of pressure right like if you're if you see your bride for the first time walking down the aisle you know you got a better chance at an emotional thing because you're about to actually get married right oceans are much higher yeah whereas like if it's 10 a.m. and you're like still sweating from putting your socks on yeah you know and you do this first look you're like you kind of have to play it up for the camera.
It's just terrible, dude.
It's not organic.
Yeah.
No, that's, I mean, you know, look, and I know there's people out there that are like,
oh, that had it on my wing day.
I loved it, whatever.
Good.
That's great.
But, I mean, to me, that sounds like, you know what, I'll just keep it to me.
Not going to make generalized statements.
That sounds like a real pain in the pecker.
The first look.
Yeah.
I mean, it turns out to be much better for the schedule.
Yeah, right.
You know.
No, I get it.
I get it.
So anyway, but that's what you'd be doing.
Well, no, it's an option I could have been doing
because I've dabbled.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, you know a lot about it.
It's fascinating.
You should do like a wedding video podcast, you know?
Right.
What are we just like critique wedding videos?
Yeah.
That would be kind of funny.
That would be like...
The problem is that it just divulges into instead of critiquing,
you're just like making fun of the couples
and the people involved in the wedding.
It would go self-reacting.
it would go south fast.
Did you ever watch Mystery Science Theater?
No.
MST3K.
It's like they're like sitting in a theater
and it's a silhouette of an alien and a dude,
just a couple aliens,
a couple of robots.
Robots, really.
And they would just make fun of B movies the whole time.
Yeah.
Anyways, a good plug, Charlie.
So what else?
Are we ready to take some callers?
I think we're ready to take some callers.
Guys, Labor Day weekend.
the Midwest starts with one person saying, if we leave a little early, we will beat the traffic.
Then everybody leaves at the exact same time. Turns out you're not really that original with that
idea. You have campers, boats, coolers, bikes, and enough cargo strapped to vehicles to start a second
household. You didn't strap it down, tight enough. Oh, I did. It's not going anywhere. You never said
that it's not going anywhere. Now look what happened. It crashed into that car and that person's injured.
are we going to do? Well, I'm going to call Nicolay. You are. That's not, yeah, actually, make the
insurance companies pay. Screw them. That's what we bought it for, right? That's right. Yeah. Call 1-855.
Guys, if a long weekend ends with leftover, it should end with leftovers in a cooler full
melted ice, not a serious accident. So if you guys end up in an accident over Labor Day weekend,
She'd call Nicolay Law 1855 Nicolay.
You want me to be in the moment with you and be on my phone?
No, I want you to feel bad that people have to do that just to get a hold of you.
Okay, it's not like I'm...
Like, I don't want anyone to feel bad in life, but this is a moment I want you to feel bad.
No, I have too much I'm doing.
Too much.
You're not doing, you don't have any more than the rest of us.
Yeah, well, you think...
Why is your stuff more important than our stuff?
You don't know what I have going on.
You have a tour and you have content.
He thinks he knows me, but he has no idea.
This is the real life of Charlie Barron's.
Okay.
Let's hear it then.
What do you got going other than the tour and making content?
Oh, dude.
You don't say family because we all got family.
You don't even have a kid.
Oh, we all have family.
We don't even have a kid.
I have 11 siblings, motherfucker.
10 nieces and nephews.
A grandma who is addicted to gambling.
I am doing shit.
I have all dead grandparents.
At least yours is still living.
Well, now this became a sympathy play.
You know, I'm,
I have to deal with the trauma of having all dead grandparents.
Miles,
I'm sorry about your trauma.
Okay.
But I feel like you're using it as a weapon against my busyness
because I'm a very important person.
Well, that's what you, yes, we know that.
You've made that abundantly clear.
I have not made that abundantly clear.
The peoples have made it abundantly clear.
I'm not running for governor.
Oh, my God.
I would not run for governor.
I would walk for governor.
Okay.
Are we going to do the belly it up in the Oval Office in Wisconsin?
It's not an Oval Office, Miles.
It's a square office.
You can tell this is day three of recording.
Oh, wouldn't it?
Isn't that so funny that someone has to text another person just to text,
me to get a hold of me i didn't say it was funny miles i said it was probably very annoying very annoying and
frankly i'm here talking with you dick wad okay so like you're kind of like you are the person
taking me away from dante right now all right and if you can't see that i can't fucking help you
i can't wash your rose colored glasses enough to get you to see your own issue in this okay and also you're not
the easiest to get a hold of either. What are you talking about? When have you ever struggled
getting a hold of me? And if I don't answer, I usually text and say, hey, I'll call you later.
It's true, actually. That's true. Well, let's call this bloke. Who put a skeleton up on my deal?
Yankton. We have to see if he's been to the ice box.
yeah go ahead yeah Derek how we doing today boys oh we are cooking and and crimping here my guy
well good deal good deal where are you guys at today we're at my uh we're on my cabin because uh
yeah you know we that's where we're at oh very nice yeah you don't need to explain yourself charlie
this is our podcast yeah i could podcast wherever we want we can do it everywhere we can do it everywhere
I guess how many mice were in my dryer vent this morning?
Oh, I don't know.
Hopefully not too many.
Well, there weren't too many.
No.
There was five.
Oh, right.
Need to have the girlfriend bring her cat over then, huh?
Yeah.
Yeah, there you go.
That's actually a good idea.
That is not a bad idea.
Shove the cat in the dryer vent.
They kind of like the live ones more.
Oh, right?
No, just put the little cat house right next to the dryer vent.
Well, oh, right up there.
and have them just guard it from the outside.
That's not a bad idea.
That's good.
It is under the deck.
It's dusty under there.
Right.
Yeah.
So what's cooking with you?
What are you doing?
Well, actually, we were just unloading some liquid cars at work, liquid fertilizer.
So just got them all hooked up and waiting for them to go empty.
Oh, there you go.
Nice.
Yeah.
So.
What's on your mind, Derek?
what'd you what'd you call in well a couple things here um one thing my dad has been married five times
oh wow five times five times so there was carrie mary joe my mom and then his last wife that
they just split up here a couple months ago and now he wanted to do you want to
months to get back. Well, he's actually living with ex-wife number two.
Okay. Mary Jo.
Mary Jo, yes, which is my sister's mom. And so, yeah, that's a whole other deal.
So dad had my sister with ex-wife number two, and then ex-wife three, he had my brother,
and then my mom had me, of course. And then my mom, she had to.
two girls prior with two other guys.
So, yeah, the whole, the whole family tree is, is pretty wild.
Yeah, I mean, it's less of a, it's more of like a family, uh, arboretum.
If, you know, yeah, I mean, you guys are all different sort of strange of something in there.
That's fun.
What's the last most recent wife's name?
Uh, good gosh.
Now I can't think of what it is.
That's not good.
That's too many wives.
Well, and I told my dad, I said, you know, marriage just isn't your thing.
I said, just live with them.
But no, he just goes on and marries anything.
Marries anything?
Yeah.
It's your mom you're talking about, man.
Well, yeah, yeah, my mom, of course.
She was a blessing.
So between your dad and your mom, we're talking seven divorces?
Yes.
Well, six divorces, I guess, because six.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
I mean, Christmas has got to be wild for you guys.
Yeah, it was.
Yeah, we're all kind of spread out around now.
So we don't get together very often.
So what, like, do you guys all live in the same town?
No, gosh, no.
I mean, sorry.
Like your dad, is he been living in the same town?
in his whole life? Oh, no. No, he grew up in Western South Dakota, moved to the east side of
South Dakota, and now he's back out west with living with ex-wife number two again. So, okay. I mean,
because if you're going to have that many ex-wives, you've got to be moving around. Otherwise,
they'll all start talking and then you won't find another wife. That is, does your dad have a Harley?
No, he does not. No. Yeah, let's dive into your dad and, and let's get into what's going on with him, you know?
What do you think is the reason why he's got so many divorces?
Gosh, I don't know.
He is just, I don't know.
He's hard-headed, I guess, I don't know.
That's about the only thing that I can come up with.
And I mean, he's a super swell guy, charming with the ladies, that's for sure.
Like, I remember growing up when I was 14 when my mom and him split up.
So he was out in the dating world and he had like a little like a to go bag.
And he had like cologne and mince and toothpicks.
And like, yeah, he was he was ready to be with the lady at a drop of a hat.
He's got a go bag like an apocalypse situation.
Yes.
As soon as the nuclear bomb hits the.
marriage he's got his go bag and he's ready to be out there dating again oh for sure yes yeah did you ever
look in the go bag besides those initial items no no i didn't want to give any deeper i i seen that
i didn't want to know any other extra activities that were going on so i just i seen what i seen
and i got out of there so yeah you want to see you want to get dig into the uh the harder parts of
a bag, but we'll say.
Most definitely, yeah, I didn't need
to know that.
Okay. Well, I am also, I'm
curious of your relationship status.
What's your current relationship
status? I am
happily married for five
years now. Okay. It's about
that time. Is there a little
voice in the back of your head that's a little
worried that you're going to go the same route?
I
I know I think I'm good where I'm at and I was always growing up I was like I'm only getting married one time and that's all.
So I picked a good one right off the bat.
So we should I shouldn't have to worry about going through the same things dad did.
Okay.
That's good.
That is good.
Learn from the mistakes.
Yes.
What did you say your dad does for a living or did?
He, well, he was, he worked for the state of South.
Dakota. He's actually retired now. So, yeah, he just bums out every day, call him, you know, and ask him what he's, what he's got going on and usually watching Westerns on the boob tube and drinking his coffee. So I also am doing the math on how much money your dad doesn't have now.
So you think about so he's got 100% money, right, that he goes down to 50% after that. So he's down to 50% after that.
So he's down to 50% money.
Then after the second divorce, he's down to 25% of his money.
Oh, wow.
Then after the third divorce, he's down to 12.5% of his money.
Oh, my God.
And then after the fourth divorce, he's down to his 6.25% of his money.
This is like inverse investing.
So basically from when he started getting married till now, he's like around 3% of his total
money that he had is now all he has left.
And last, is he living on social security?
No, that's assuming that he didn't, he didn't pick a honey baby.
That's true.
Yeah. Maybe he might have picked up some money along the way.
Yeah.
It was he no, no, none of them were, uh, where, were the money bags or nothing.
So yeah, he's all on his own there.
Do you get a pre-nup?
I know, no, no.
Oh, wow.
He just didn't learn any lessons.
No.
So he's literally just got no money now.
Yeah, no.
I mean, the retirement,
yeah, that's about all that he gets.
And so, yeah.
Wow.
Yikes.
That's impressive.
You know, he does have a commitment to something, though.
I can tell you that.
Right.
He's committed to giving his money away.
He's committed to believing that this is the last time he's getting married.
I that's that's what I need uh your advice on is like what should I tell my dad
that Mary rich because he's he's already asked his second ex wife to get married again
nice dude cool so like where do you think he picked this skill up like what was his dad like
oh he was uh yeah no he wasn't anything like dad for sure like he he he was married
to my grandma, you know, just
her. And
yeah, no, I don't know where
dad got this trade at, but yeah,
I'm glad that it, I
don't pick any of that
trade up. I think he's watching
too many Westerns.
Yeah.
I think he just wants to
be an outlaw
where he just, you know, jumps from town
to town. Well,
he did grow up in the Western South Dakota.
You know, maybe that, that's
probably why, you know, he picked up that cowboy just gets tired of one girl and
moves on to the next town.
Yeah, call him.
Yeah, call him Deadwood.
Jesse James.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Where, where, uh, where's, uh, how old is he now?
How young of a man is he, huh?
Oh, gosh, what is he?
68 or 69 this year.
Hi.
And he's still in, uh, he's still fighting.
He's still fighting.
Yeah.
40 years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was pretty good stretch.
The first three were, you know, only a couple years.
Bang, bang, bang.
Yeah.
My mom and dad were married like 14 years.
And then I guess I don't remember how long number five was, I guess.
A couple years there.
So what does your mom have to say about him?
Um, she cares about him because he's my dad.
Okay.
And, uh, you know, I don't know.
They, they, they get along to a point, you know, to make things work.
But they keep it together for the kids.
Yep.
For sure.
For sure.
So, wow.
So, yeah, it's, uh, it was pretty interesting to, uh, to grow up with that and, and watch
all the the girlfriends and wives come and go.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
We didn't even talk about girlfriends.
Yeah.
Probably girlfriends as well that he didn't marry.
Oh, gosh.
Yeah.
And I'm guessing there might have been an engagement ring in the to go back just in case.
But like I said, I didn't go any deeper.
Is there one that you thought got away?
Who's the one aside for your mom, who's the one that got away?
There was a gal from, uh,
Um, Highmore, South Dakota. And she was pretty nice. Um, that she, and she did have some money too. So that was also a bonus. But, uh, we, we, we were watching, uh, neighbor's horse. And it ended up killing her dog. And then after that, they, they split up. So. Okay. You were, you were, wow.
Okay. Well, that's the most South Dakota.
South Dakota shit right there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. It was pretty rough times.
His horse killed her dog and then they split ways.
Yeah.
The neighbor's horse.
They were watching.
Oh, neighbor's horse.
Who was supposed to be watching them when he, I'm guessing?
Well, that could, that could have been on me, but, you know, I was out chasing girls, too, you know, so.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, geez.
Oh, geez.
What happened were you supposed to bring the horse?
back in or let the horse out what did you forget to do well no he was just out in the pasture and and um
she was down busy and dad and and they let the let the little weiner dog out and it ran in with the
horse and uh yeah the the horse ended up stomping the dog to death so i yeah yeah i mean wiener dogs
are annoying but i will say not that annoying no no winner dog deserve that and they're honestly
not that annoying they're kind of just boring.
I'm surprised the weir dog went up to the horse.
Yeah, well, and it was a stud horse, and it was pretty ony.
That's why we had it because our neighbor had young kids.
Oh.
And we took it so it didn't hurt any of the neighbor's kids.
And, you know, we were just watching it.
And yeah.
Yeah, that's really sad, actually, now that I think about that, poor little winner.
Yeah.
I mean, you started this, you started that with saying that the weiner dog pretty much deserved it.
and now you're like, oh, this is so sad.
Well, I thought about it more.
I was like, oh, no, because, you know, for me,
a weaner dog is, you know, an idea.
But for some people, weaner dog mouse,
that's their life.
They love their weiner, you know, dog.
And so anyways, I get it.
I get it.
I'm picking.
I get why she would leave.
Where do we go from here with your dad?
Do you think he's willing to hear you out,
take your advice or is it a lost cause?
I honestly, I've told him
until I was blue in the face that, like I said,
marriage just isn't your thing, Dad.
And he just, he cannot get that through that,
you know, just living with someone is perfectly fine,
but he has to have a ring on him to, I don't know.
Is he Catholic?
Negative, no.
There's no way.
There's no way the church would keep a nulling,
I mean, unless he's just like using fake names and going to different churches and getting it old, you know?
Yeah, that's true.
Is he, what?
Catch me if you can.
Your dad's kind of catch me if you can a little bit.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Your dad is batting 0% by the way.
Very much so.
Yeah.
Like he's never had a relationship workout.
Batting 0% has 3% of his money.
Statistics.
We're never going to see a run like this ever again.
It's almost impossible to do this.
To not even learn to get a pre-up on like the third wedding.
Well, hang on a second, Miles.
Hang on a second.
He's, he's, I kind of, maybe he's right where he needs to be.
He's not finding a sixth.
He's going back to two.
because she's got all of his money.
Oh, yeah, she would have the most money.
Smart.
Well, number one's probably got the most money, but what's going on with number one right now?
I don't know about her.
She was kind of right after the high school.
They got married.
And so, yeah, I don't know much about her.
I've just from my aunts and uncles telling me.
But, yeah, no, I don't know where she's at now.
Is he maybe like good luck Chuck and like after he divorces women, then they just like find a lasting relationship?
That could be.
That could be.
Does that happen?
It hasn't happened with my mom yet.
She's still, she's out there looking for for a keeper too.
Is she upset that your dad went back to number two and not to her?
No, she's actually kind of excited about that.
Really?
That he did.
Oh, yeah.
Well, not that that he didn't ask her.
to live with her again so
oh okay
he didn't really like number
she didn't like say oh I always thought
he would have been better with the wife that
he left me for
yeah no no he's
she's she's she's happy with
with what where he's that now so
okay well and he's happy
uh I think so
um I I I hope so
I mean he's getting up to that age where
he's he uh he needs
to actually set some roots down and stick with something.
He's 60 years old and you're like, okay, now he needs to settle down.
Yeah, yeah.
It's time.
It's time for him to...
I mean, your dad's got to have a huge hog, right?
That's kind of at the center of this whole thing.
Well, you know, I don't want to say, but I mean, yeah, it sounds like it is.
That's why he, you know,
he had the to go bag and he was ready for anything so he knew because there was
ex ex-exel magnums in the go bag yes yes uh just willem defoeing it out there
that's nice man well good for you yeah yeah good for you yeah congrats
um yeah now that's on the genetics yeah not to brag or anything but that's great
So let me ask you if your dad's happy and your mom's happy for your dad,
then what's stopping you from just being happy here?
Well, and I am happy for sure.
I just do it.
Does he have to get married again?
I mean, are we talking to data or opinion?
Because data says he has to get married again.
Well, I mean, if that's what we, maybe, maybe I just tell him.
him, hey, go for it.
I mean, he might have hit a home run on number six.
That's true.
With number two.
These little giants one time.
Yes.
All you need is one.
He may have 99 marriages, but that 100th one just needs one time.
One time.
I love a little giants reference.
Yeah.
One time.
Maybe I can give him that speech, maybe.
Yeah.
That one time.
And maybe, you know,
Charlie
last, so I think you should try
a tactic that I tried with Charlie
last night.
Charlie,
me and him were sitting around the fire
after a long day of shooting content.
Charlie just goes,
maybe I should make a movie.
And I just looked at him and said,
I don't think you can.
I don't think you can.
And then you called me.
Called you a pussy.
Yeah.
And he was screaming it.
And I said, I don't think you can.
You're dead.
doesn't think you can.
Your mom doesn't think you can.
Your girlfriend doesn't think you can.
Jared for sure doesn't think you can.
He did say Jared for sure doesn't think you can.
And that, Jared, that got me steaming the most.
And the look in Charlie's eye was, I got to make this movie.
It was.
It was.
And I,
and I use what I like to call reverse psychology in that moment.
And I think you could invoke this on your dad, be like,
I don't think that you even I don't think you can not get married
no one thinks you can so go ahead get married
everyone knows you're gonna
everyone knows you're gonna you know
I don't think you have the restraint to not propose
yeah
that the old reverse psychology
might everyone's telling him not to get married
you need to start encouraging him to get married
then he won't want to get married
oh there we go yeah
Start sending him profiles on Facebook of women that he should marry.
And then he'll be like turned off by the whole thing.
There you go.
I thought maybe just send him a bunch of divorce lawyer's numbers and.
You just bully him.
That's another approach.
He's like,
oh, I got a new girlfriend.
Like, I found a new divorce lawyer for you.
That's funny.
Like for his birthday to just like,
print like find an old phone book and just go to the divorce lawyer section just frame it for
him that's cute yeah he can he can hang it up on his wall for
future references take his phone and change all of his favorite contacts to just divorce lawyers
in the area so what he opens up his phone to go call you know wife number two instead it's
divorce lawyer that's more 2026 recommendation suppose well honestly I'm pretty sure
his divorce lawyer was number one on his saved phone numbers.
There's no way.
Really? Really?
Pretty sure, yeah.
I mean, think about, I mean, talk about finding the prize client as a divorce lawyer.
Oh, yeah.
They just gobble him right up for sure.
They talk about him at conferences.
Got a picture of dad on the, they're like, you have to find a client just like this guy.
I have now done five divorces for him and it's just copy and paste.
They probably send him a Christmas card every year.
They call him on his birthday.
They sent him on a trip to Cabo for his fifth one.
Edible arrangements he gets.
But they're like, honestly, we're a little nervous because after the second one, we said,
hey, if you get five divorces, your six ones free.
And we never thought he would get there.
but now we're probably going to have to do the next one.
So learn from our mistake.
So they stop sending him to Cabo so he doesn't find another wife.
Yes.
So his dad, he's like, dad, just don't get married.
He's like, what do you mean?
The next divorce is free.
I got to take him up on it.
Well, yeah, that's a, that's a no-brainer for him for being free, free divorce.
Your dad's got a punch card at the divorce firm.
Well, we got to look at the positive.
So the positives your dad is his own man.
he doesn't care what anyone else thinks.
He doesn't care about anybody.
And that might be a reason why he's had five, five wives.
For sure.
Yeah, I mean, I mean, he's following his own, you know, six shooter.
You know what I mean?
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So how many kids total again?
That's the right answer.
I mean, there's what, five of us, five kids between...
Are any kids full siblings, or are you guys all have siblings?
All half.
Wow.
So, yeah, they're, like, on my dad's side, we all have the same dad, all three different moms.
On my mom and dad, all same moms, different dads.
Wow.
so a lot of ones and done's huh yeah yeah for sure okay yeah definitely kept kept uh kept everything
interesting growing up so sure that's what you call it's like how you cope with it you know
you're like as an adult you're like yeah it was interesting even though it was just childhood trauma
would you say it was traumatic no he said it was interesting kept it interesting no that i that i that i heard
is that what you're meaning when you say it yeah i mean it it was uh yeah kind of uh just knowing that
you know i didn't have like true-blooded siblings i guess not really traumatic or anything but
no but you do like them yeah yeah yeah do you guys have you and your like are you close with
those siblings and kind of bond over the fact that your dad's kind of wild or not um
Me and my sister, with my dad's side, we talk quite a bit about it.
I haven't really talked to my brother in a while.
So, yeah, he don't really know, like, how he feels about it, I guess.
Give him a call.
Check in with all your siblings, you know?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it would take a little while to get everybody to take some time with all of us,
but we should.
that'd be good to reminisce.
Yeah.
Yeah, you guys have a,
have a family reunion sometime here.
Yeah, that would be.
That would be.
For your dad,
we'll just call it a singles mixer.
Yeah.
So there is one other thing that I,
well,
a couple different things if you guys have time.
Sure, sure.
So another thing,
so I want to pitch my bar,
my hometown bar quick okay cool so heckless south Dakota um the tipsy tractor okay you guys should
come on come on down and and do a do a podcast down there okay um pretty pretty good time um
they got uh pole tabs um travel board they got buck hunter so i mean there's always a good time
Chuck loves big buck hunter.
Yeah.
Chuck loves big buck hunter.
It's a great game.
I mean, that guy could play it for hours, you know.
He's, he's standing there.
He's shooting his gun, you know.
There's beautiful women that show up on there.
He's going for the record.
He's hunting bear.
He's hunting deer.
Yep.
You know, and he just, he loves big buck hunter.
I do.
Don't you, Chuck?
I love it.
Yeah.
It's a great.
game. I see some familiar
faces. Yeah. What's
your favorite part? So, Miles,
I'll just tell you, we've said
this on this podcast before, haven't we?
I don't think we ever have.
Oh. You don't have to. Yeah.
Yeah, let's leave it as a cliffhanger.
I mean, if there's any call
to do it on, it's the one with the guy
who's got five divorces.
All right. My ex,
my ex, back in college,
she did
a modeling shoot for Big Buck
and she became one of the big buck hunter gals.
And she's still on all of the games.
She signed a pretty, a contract you signed in college.
When they say they're going to use the thing forever,
you'd just see the money and, you know.
So anyway, she's still up there and she's not getting residuals,
but she probably should.
Actually, she was in parks and rack when they're playing big buck on her.
That's her on the screen.
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
So just, yeah, there you go.
Charlie loves Big Buck Hunter.
All right, Miles.
Well, come on down.
I mean, we'll have you for sure.
We'll set up a tipsy tractor.
I'll pay for you to play.
All right.
Okay.
Well, I'm not actually not, you know, as hard of a Big Buck Hunter fan as Miles.
He likes to watch Big Buck Hunter.
There's necessarily love to play.
You know, that's why you always podcasts with your buddies, you know,
because they really, they support you.
and they never throw you under their own tipsy tractor, you know?
Yeah.
So they won't kick you when you're down at all, right?
No, they won't kick you when you're down, piddle on you, nothing.
Nothing.
What was the other thing you wanted to discuss with us?
Okay, so I think you guys should do a bellied up or a Midwestern time capsule.
Oh. That's Jared. Jared, get on the mic.
Wow.
We were going to do it. You bet you time capsule where we would for our company and we
tasked Jared with it. And Jared, where is the time capsule?
No word to be found.
You had never got done.
That guy we didn't do it.
Yeah.
Yeah. You just get a bunch of stuff off of T. Moo and, and bury it.
I, Chuck, you could throw your, throw some, uh, your, your, your dirty glasses.
there so you prick i'm sorry little bastard are they dirty right now they're a little dirty i clean they look
pretty good they're not clean hang on now i'm cleaning my glasses no keep going keep going you better roast
miles now well i i don't know i there's not much to roast on miles i mean just are you kidding me
are you kidding me miles why don't we throw one of your xxxxl shirts into it there you
How about that?
Okay, I do have one for Miles.
Miles, when you did that volunteer fire deal up in, by Fargo, you need to take a picture
with your mustache and then you can throw that in there because you were looking really
good in that mustache.
Oh, wow.
That was supposed to be mean, but it came out really nice.
Yeah, what are you doing?
What are you doing?
Oh, yeah.
Sorry.
Yeah.
I was supposed to roast him.
You know, we'll just, I'll connect.
you guys after the call.
You guys can just talk in private
about, you know, how much you like
and I'm happily married, okay?
Right, right. I don't want to get caught
by the divorce bug, okay?
What about Miles'
short shorts?
Oh, I haven't seen those.
Yeah, no, I don't
know about that.
That's something that maybe I know that not a lot of
people know. I like to show off my quads.
Myles is a little quadzilla
over here, which is fair.
I like it.
But where would you put a time capsule, a Midwest time capsule, Charlie?
Where should we bury it?
I think we got bury it in the backyard of our, of, you know, where we got buried.
This is in our time capsule.
This is the Midwest time capsule.
Midwest time capsule has to be buried in a bar parking lot.
Like the, the back area, you know, or like the little patch of grass that they have there.
Yeah, every good bar has got one patch of grass.
Yeah, the wild weeds that no one takes care of.
Yes, that's where it should be buried.
And then how would you mark it?
A bunch of beer.
Oh, maybe a beer pyramid or something.
A pyramid, not bad.
What I think is do bottle cap headstone for it.
So every time you drink a bottle beer, you take your cap and you go put it.
You glue it to it.
No, you just put it in the ground.
and you just keep putting bottle caps there.
So it's a little like flat gravestone.
I dig that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe like those like orange poles you put in your driveway in the winter so you don't.
That's a better idea.
That's a better idea.
Otherwise the snow removal guy is going to hit it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All year around have it up.
Yeah.
Well, definitely, uh, definitely got to have like, we can use an ice auger.
Oh, yes.
Yes.
Yeah, but what do we put in the actual, we got to put a beer from this year in it and see if it's still good.
Brandy, got to put that in there.
Put some Barrens Brandy.
That should stay good.
That should hold.
And we got Barry it deep enough, so it's, you know, it's like a seller.
Jared did a bunch of research on it.
Jared, what do we need to do with this?
You need to make sure it's airtight.
Airtight, okay.
You got to make sure there's no water that can get in.
You don't want moisture damage.
Oh, yeah.
So it can't be.
just put one of those things that come in the beef jerky pack in there?
Yeah.
Oh, the silicate gel?
Yeah.
We just put that.
That'll take care of it all.
And then we'll put the bag of beef jerky in there.
Yeah, we'll just open a bag of beef jerky and throw it in there.
That should be good.
That should be good.
You got to have a, you know, like a fishing lure in there.
Yeah, fishing lure from that year.
You know, I think put some peasant lure.
pickled northern in there.
I like how we're just putting food and drinking.
This sounds like a doomsday bunker situation.
It's like, well, it's less of a time capsule and more of like a breaking case of emergency
situation is what this is turning into.
We should put a hard, we should put a flash drive or a hard drive with all the bellied up
episodes up to that point in there.
We should put some Coles Cash in there to see if they still honor it.
God.
We can put stacks of coals cash in there.
And not just, let's not stop there.
Let's put some Culver's Scoopy tokens in.
And let's put.
We got to put drink tokens in there.
Yeah, put some wooden nickels in there.
You bet.
Put some dice in there.
Just because we're not sure what the future has,
maybe there's a dice confiscation.
The great dice confiscation of 2046, you know.
I want to make sure that dice is still around for bar dice.
Put some duct tape in there.
Because you're going to, part of this is what do you need in the future and no, pick it back up, Jared.
What do you think?
You're just looking at things around the room.
Well, I'm looking at things.
Yeah.
Lamp.
No, you don't need a carpet and you don't need lamp, okay?
But duct tape you will need.
Also, you want to pick things that are specific to now.
Like duct tape's been around so long.
That's not specific to right now.
What I want to know is how.
How long does duct tape last, Miles?
What is the expiration date on duct tape?
Don't you want to know that?
Jolly's like, Jolly's like, let's put a hunk of concrete in there
because they know that we've used that at this time in life.
There's many different ways to think about a time capsule miles.
There's not one way to do it.
Okay.
There's several different ways.
Okay.
So what do you want to put in there?
Funny guy, huh?
what do you want i don't know oh he doesn't know guys he doesn't know miles he's going to bully
relevant to right well it gave me one example miles
an iPhone to put an iphone you put an iPhone in there you just took jared's i'm jared's an
extension of me okay that's true that is true i could see in a universe where you gave i mean you guys
have the same beard.
His is a little bit more well-kempt
than yours.
Jared's.
He also doesn't have any grays yet.
I got grays.
Get grays?
Oh, yeah.
Those look good, though.
You two could, like, write notes to each other
and then open it, like, 30 years from now.
Oh, yeah.
I wonder what...
We could write a note to the future Midwest.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, that's good.
Yeah.
See?
Yeah, that's a good one.
He found it.
He found it in the...
there. Oh, we should, we should write a note to your dad too and congratulate him on his 13th wife.
Yes. Most definitely, yes. Well, we can do that. What would you put in there? Oh, gosh.
God, put me on the spot. Maybe a drone, you know. Okay. Sure. Yeah. Just kidding. I had no AI stuff for me.
are all drones a i like that anyone's scared to come out and say they like AI around charlie no one's
scared of that miles they are now they're not yes they are now they're not i actually this is actually
a good moment i want someone who's super pro ai to come on here and talk to charlie that would be good
that's what i want that'd be good that's what i want that'd be good the problem not the guy no that's
fine. I just, yeah, this is for the listeners. If you are someone who loves artificial intelligence,
get on the hotline. Tell us what you want to talk about. We'll get you on the line with Charlie
Barron's and I'll mediate and you can go head to head with Chuck Barron's. And I'll also say it's not
it's not anti-technology. Okay. It's just pro not being a douchebag. You know, there's a way to
do technology where you're not a total asshole to everyone who doesn't have money. That's the point.
all right.
Hey, save it for the debate.
Yeah.
I just want people to know what to frame.
It's not like,
and throw in your qualifications.
If you work for an artificial intelligence company,
we also want someone who knows what they're talking about.
Also, if you have any numbers you want to give us on how much money you're burning on this stuff,
that would be really.
Save it for the debate.
Well, I'm just telling, I'm just telling them.
If they got information, that'd be cool.
It's going to be the debate of 2026.
I'd be happy to.
That'd be fun.
All right.
Well, and I will make sure that I stay unbiased and not stir the pot.
I will make sure that I don't just say stuff just to get a rise out of people.
I will mediate fairly and positively.
Yeah.
And I do believe that you will do all those things that you just said you wouldn't too.
Thank you, Charlie.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
but no, that would be great.
So not a drone.
What else would you put in there?
Oh, Gersh.
Gersh.
Maybe some, well, I don't know.
Ice?
Yeah, right.
We just talked about not having moisture.
Ice and a Yeti.
Ice and a Yeti.
You know what?
It should be, that's an air type thing.
You've got to put it in a Yeti.
There you go.
and then bury that yeah don't give yety any ideas they're going to come out
not a sponsor you're going to come out with a yety time capsule that costs 40,000 dollars
not a bad that's i don't know why they don't have yety coffins either those are coming
a hundred grand for a yety coffin it's a dying business it's a time business oh boy well listen
It was a great, great little chit chat we had here.
Yeah, most of the, maybe start the Midwest goodbye.
But just want to say, Charlie, go pack, go, fuck the bears.
Thank you.
A big, big Packers fan.
Heck yeah, dude.
And then what else?
Oh, you're going to be, are you going to be in Fargo anytime?
Me and the wife are looking to maybe come see a show sometime?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're going to be in Fargo.
October what?
In October.
Do you know what the date is? I know what the date is.
I have no idea what the date is, my house.
October 9th, 9th.
9th. Yep.
It's 8th or 9th?
It's somewhere in there.
What I know is I'm going to be there and so are you.
We'll get you tickets.
Oh, that would be awesome, Charlie.
Yeah.
The wife is a big fan.
Let's get your dad there too.
I don't know if we should do that.
Okay.
All right.
There's two shows on October 9th.
Yeah, what time?
You want the earlier or late show?
Late show would be awesome.
All right.
You guys, I sure appreciate everything that you guys do.
I work at a co-op,
Agtegra cooperative.
Spend a lot of time in a cab of a machine,
and it's definitely a pleasure to listen to the podcast.
Makes the long days go by pretty good
with listening to you guys.
You guys do a great job.
Well, that means a lot to hear.
We thank you.
Thank you very much for listening.
And we'll keep it coming for you, okay?
All right.
I sure appreciate it.
You guys have a good one.
Have a good way.
Watch out for divorces.
No, you hung up.
No, I know.
You hung up right away.
Well, Chuck.
Yeah.
Miles, I suppose.
I mean, I didn't want to say it on the call.
But you're sorry.
So far, you are on track to be that guy's dad.
What?
There's no evidence to say you're not.
Miles.
First of all, I had one divorce.
At one point, he also had one divorce.
Yeah, I know.
To get to five, you got to get to one.
You can't wait for him to hang.
up and then just throw this at me.
If you wanted to do it, you say, how old was he when he had his first divorce?
Dude was probably 21, okay?
I'm, I'm twice that man's age, not quite twice.
Shut the hell up, Jared.
All right, let's do another caller.
Guy, what's cooking?
Oh, nothing much.
Charlie, how are you?
I'm doing good.
How about yourself?
Oh, hot, sweaty, ready to get home.
I feel that. I feel that. What state are you in?
Great state of Texas.
Wow. I used to live in Texas. Do you know that?
Oh, really? Dallas.
Oh, well, I don't really like Dallas all that well.
Yeah, it did its thing for what it was and now it's gone.
But what city are you in?
I'm from Victoria, about two hours south of San Antonio.
Neil. Okay. Yes, sir, yes, sir. Well, you said you're looking to get home. Where are you working at today?
We're just over here in Quiro about 45 minutes away from home. We're not doing too much. We're just lancing a cooler and stuff like that over here at Bold.
Can we translate that real quick? Yes, sir. So gas compressors, they have cooler fans on
the front of them that cycle the oil through the fan to cool off the oil as they shoot it down
the line and everything and the tubes on the inside get clogged up really really bad so we're taking
a water jitter and running a lance down in those tubes to kind of clear out all the peripin
and oil and scale build up and whatnot oh okay I see like uh like a nice little um modium shall we say
oh yeah you could call it that yes sir yeah see cleaning the pipes miles you know what he's like a
different kind of plumber yeah yes yes sir you could call it that charlie was cleaning pipes this
morning it was in the form of a dryer vent yeah vents you know all of them damn dryer vents boys
i tell you guess how many mice uh let's go with three five close close close mice in the dryer
Five blind mice.
Five blind mice.
They're blind because they're in my dryer vent,
and now they're dead.
But.
So what did you call in for today?
Oh, and I forgot the voicemail I left a while ago,
but I do need a little bit of truck advice.
Yeah.
You got some for me.
Yeah.
So I got a 0273 diesel.
Oh, nice.
Man, I know that model.
I know the 027.
Come on, Miles.
I know. I love that truck to no end, but it is, it's getting 260-some-odd miles on it.
260, I know that about those trucks.
They can go a long time.
Sure can.
Those 273 diesels, man.
Those suckers will pump.
Oh, I love it.
But I just, I've been keeping up maintenance with it.
and it's just becoming more and more of a money pit
and deciding whether if I want to get rid of it
and go to a lower mileage mechanical diesel
or just keep it and save up some money to buy another truck
and give this one to my kid.
I mean, that's a good option giving it to your kid, you know?
But he is going to wreck it even more than you would.
well that's the thing about that one is he can try to wreck it all he wants to it's still a solid steel
truck it's not aluminum like these newer ones no that's that power stroke and that's something you got
to consider when you're buying a new truck is you know it's like are they building things as good
as they used to and are you going to is that you know going to turn into a money pit even faster than
your other one oh man yeah well like my boss he bought a used work truck
Ford F-350, I think it was a 22 or 23 model, something like that.
I only had it for a couple of months, and it was just dog slow.
And we ended up, what was it, spun a bearing or something in it,
and I had to take it to the shop, and they've had it for, gosh, maybe two, three months by now.
And we've paid a little over 18,000 to have them rebuild the motor and delete it in that.
everything. Are you kidding me? As soon as it goes out of warranty. Yeah. He bought it used from a,
what the hell is the fleet fleet dealership, something like that. And I think it only had
80,000 miles on it, something like that. So less than 100,000.
Dang. Right after we bought it, did that. So, okay, here's a question. You know, I know a lot about
the 0273. You got the X-L.
You got the XLT or no?
Yes, it's just bare bones, no automatic locks, no power windows.
Nice.
You just get a radio with it.
So, okay, you know, are you able to find, because you really like that truck,
are you able to find anyone with lower mileage on it anywhere?
Or are they like all, they're all just, you can't find them.
I've looked and looked all over the place, Facebook mainly, a good old marketplace.
There's a bunch of them around here.
It's just finding them either for low mileage or for a good cost.
Everybody wants a got amount of money for it if they want to get rid of it.
It's like a highly sought after power stroke diesel.
Yes, sir.
It's just all mechanical is what everybody wants nowadays.
They don't want no computers in their truck.
Hell no, no.
Because then they get these jerkoffs got to charge you so much to pay for that.
It's just ridiculous.
You should be able to work on your own deal there.
You shouldn't need a computer.
They used to fix a car with a wrench.
Now you need a USB drive.
Oh, yeah.
It's ridiculous.
It is, but I love my mechanical diesels to no end.
Plus in a doomsday scenario, you can run it off vegetable oil, you know?
Oh, yeah.
I've been thinking about that, too, getting a little, because on my truck,
all I got to do is take a tuner to it,
and I should be able to run, you know, biofuel and everything else off of it.
That's sick.
And you got the four door on that guy, right?
No, sir, just the extended cap.
Oh, the extended cab even better.
Oh, man.
Daily driver, rough and rugged.
Love it.
There you go, dude.
Probably some pretty good gas mileage on it, given that it's diesel.
I mean, I know it's not a lot, but it better than if it was regular gas.
for what it is
I guess you consider it it gets
decent mileage
it's a bus dude
it's a massive bus
I think it weighs
8600 pound wet
you know that water
just soaks right into those tires
two miles
well Charlie
you actually know a guy in Arlington
that's selling one
in Arlington
oh yeah
he's got that tan one there right yeah it's uh it's got only got 1208 000 miles right i think he said
128 maybe how much is he looking to get rid of it for uh let me think you might have to call him uh we
can't remember off the top of our yeah uh but i know uh he works for v markets
uh vehicle markets vehicle markets yeah that come
Yeah, I have to look it up.
Yeah, that's the four door, though.
So, but you want that extended cab.
That's a, I mean, I'll just take a seven three at this point.
Seven three.
Oh, shit.
Oh, that one just sold.
Larry sold it.
Yeah.
But anyways, it's, it's a, you know, that's an automobile right there.
Oh, yes, sir.
I love it.
What's the, we're all boys bellied up at today.
We're at my cab and.
Which is awesome.
Which is a great name for a bar, by the way.
My cabin.
That's pretty good.
Yeah, I'm headed up to my cabin.
Oh, the old log cabin.
The old campaign grenade.
The old cabin grenade, do you know?
Oh, do you ever fix your deck yet?
It's fixed enough.
I took a look at it, dude.
And that is what we call a Band-Aid over a bullet hole.
It absolutely is.
I'm not even defending myself.
It's, I'll say this.
He's fixed as a bandaid over a bullet hole.
This, I, I stabilize the patient.
Okay.
Yeah.
We're going to, we're going to have to do some work here, but I don't think I'm going to have
to do that work for at least another five years.
I go, Charlie, you fix it and he's standing where he needed to fix it and he just starts
rocking back and forth and the whole deck was shaking.
Not the whole deck.
It just.
Just, it was designed.
It was designed.
For earthquakes.
Yeah.
It's got some flex.
It's got some flex in case that there's an earthquake here in Wisconsin.
It would need a, it would need a whole rebuild for it to not do that.
Or at least it would need a whole rebuild.
But we're not going down that road now because who has time?
You know, there's other projects I'd rather do.
my deck just took a little bit of his shit on me too i just got in the built and then we had a tropical storm
come through and then kind of pulled the uh flashing from just above the door off of the roof so now it leaks
right in front of the door when it rains oh no and so is it just rotting out that wood there
no it's not rotten quite yet it just happened maybe a few weeks ago or so but i'll get on it fixing it
not here too long yeah we take your time you know wait for it to be a real problem yes sir yes sir
yeah oh man that's how it goes anything else uh on your mind here uh no not really not that i can think
of at the moment wait a second we didn't even talk about your truck did we what was a big problem
uh man there's all kinds of issues going on with it's got a big old oil leak on the uh
The pan seal blew the brakes on it just last week and had to fix that on it.
We just got done talking about how badass of a truck this is.
How it was going to survive the apocalypse?
Well, if I kept up with the maintenance as it should be,
it would probably would survive the apocalypse.
Oh, so you realize, yeah, so it might be a little bit of user error as well.
Yeah, most definitely user error.
that the brakes it had worn down the pads weirdly on one side rather than the other instead of wearing
evenly and went to go press on the brakes and it completely blew the pistons and the caliper
completely pieces.
Wow.
That's almost impressive.
Yeah.
I mean, what are you doing with this truck?
Are you drag racing?
No.
This thing makes a solid 200.
hunter in horsepower. It ain't dragging nobody. But it'll drag a trailer house though if you hook it to
there it is. There it is. Well, so what are you hoping to you're hoping to find a mechanic here today or
you just want to tell us about everything that's wrong with it? Just kind of complaining about it.
I'm a mechanic, not by trade or anything, but by force, I guess. So is there any job you won't do on your
car because no i don't think so i if i had to i'd pull the motor out of it and rebuild it if it went
down yeah yeah that's good that's got to give you confidence in the apocalypse right yes sir i'm
completely against paying anybody else to do something for me that's you're awesome you're you're
talking to the right guy that's charlie barrens yeah so what what is something that you had to pay for
at some point in your life and it just killed you.
Getting my septic put in from my house that we just had put in.
Yeah.
That bugged the hell out of me.
I dug the trenches and laid the water lines from our water well all the way to the house.
I laid the electrical lines that they came and hooked everything up.
But we laid the electrical lines for it and hooked it up to the house and ran all the wires for
the septic and everything else.
and we just, we could not by law,
touched the subject.
Probably good, you know.
Yeah.
Yeah, looking back on it now, probably.
My wife and I,
our first house, there was a little tiny home,
and the septic that we had home built
was just two little 500-gallon totes
in metal cages that we had dug a hole
and put them down into the ground
and made her own little drain field for it
and everything, and they didn't work out too well.
They only lasted about two or three months.
What happened?
It just filled up, backed up, and kept clogging and everything.
I mean, what were you guys eating?
It was, yeah.
Is it your fault or your wife's fault for that?
I'd like to say mine, but she's at the house more than I am.
that's that's it it's nice you gave that a go though you know oh yeah we gave it a good
hurrah but well it bit us in the ass in the end I guess so you lived in a proper tiny home like
it would be labeled as a tiny home or just a smaller house yes or no it was a actual
considered tiny home it was only I think 800 square foot so what so um what was that like
I'm very curious because tiny homes became a big fad here.
I don't know if they're still around, like if it's still considered a fad or not,
but people were really loving tiny homes.
What is your, after living in one, what is your review on living in a tiny home?
Well, for my wife and I, it was great.
I mean, we didn't have no issues with it.
We had people come over all the time.
We had a small little deck that we had put up on it and people come hang out.
We do little fish cookoffs and everything.
And then after a while, she ended up getting pregnant.
We figured that wasn't going to work.
We were either going to have to add on to it and buy a whole new, complete, separate building to tie into the one building.
Or we just move, get us some land and get a trailer house.
So that's what we ended up doing.
Nice.
Yeah, the trailer house, I mean, that tying homes were always there.
They just call them like a trailer house.
That's true.
It's classic millennials.
to just reinvent the house on wheels.
It's not a trailer park.
It's a tiny home community.
Yeah.
Oh, yes, sir.
I mean, the trailer house is tiny as well, but it serves needs.
It serves its needs for me and my wife and my kids so far.
Hell, yeah.
Yeah, you get what you need and then you rock and roll.
But no garage for your truck.
So you got to wait for good weather to start repairing it.
Well, it's kind of like a family.
compound that we live on with my in-laws and everything, but they're far enough away. And the place
is wooded enough. You can't see nobody or hear nobody. So they don't really bother us too much.
And they got a garage and everything shop set up over there if I ever needed to use it.
You could have just been describing a paradise or threatening somebody, you know? Like,
ain't no one going to see you or hear you over there. Oh, it is a very nice place out there. I love it.
That's awesome, man.
Well, being out in the woods.
Hell yeah.
Well, pretty slick.
And we wish you all the luck with your car, your automobile.
If anyone's out there that has an 0273 diesel truck that they're trying to get off their hands,
it's got decent mileage on it.
You got to let us know.
We'll let you do a little buy, sell, a trade.
Oh, yes, sir.
I'm willing.
Mm-hmm.
Absolutely.
Well, real good.
We'll keep you posted on that.
And do watch out for those mealy's, okay?
All right.
Yes, sir.
Y'all watch out for deer as well.
Y'all take care.
All right.
Bye, no.
That's what I like, Miles.
That's what I like to hear.
What?
Just all that.
That was a real nice guy.
Okay.
Yeah.
I thought you were talking about something specific, but yeah, the whole call.
Yeah.
Kai was a nice guy.
He was.
Maybe he would have liked Pye.
You know what I like about Kai is he seems to
value the correct things in life.
He sure does.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah. Yeah.
You could have, you know, moved out of his tiny home and got a bigger house, but he said,
I'm going to get a trailer because that's all he need.
It's all he needs.
It's all he needs.
And you know what?
Honestly, if he wants another deck for his trailer, you just back that truck right up to
it, dude.
Yep.
Put the tailgate down.
Yep.
Truck deck.
Yeah.
I mean, it's probably full of something.
well they just put some boards over top of the
smart thing yeah smart yeah some little deck boards
right over the top of it it's just like almost like a thing
you just set on top yeah yeah yeah just kind of
there you go I like it well
Miles has been another great episode of the Bellied Up podcast
this it is yeah remember guys to tip your bartender
and we'll see you next one and clean out your dryer vent
okay hope you guys have a good one
Goodbye now.
U-Daloo.
