Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of the Bellied Up podcast.
I'm here with my best buddy, Charlie Barron.
Oh, Miles.
Flew all the way from Wisconsin here to Fargo today.
Oh, what a flight it is.
So convenient.
Charlie,
Milwaukee to Fargo.
Jared, you don't know this, but Charlie calls me at like 9.30 last night.
I bet you're shit in your pads.
No, it was more so, uh, what is it going to be this time?
you know
and so let me just tell you out of the phone call on
no no no let me tell it
so I answer phone and he's like miles
so what do you think about
maybe pushing the podcast to 2.30 tomorrow
because we're here at like 11 a.m.
And I informed him that
Russell Nicolet is going to be here at 2.30
so we can't do that, all that stuff.
And he goes, ah, titty fuck.
I didn't.
I didn't.
Mom, I didn't not say that.
He's like, I just don't want to get up that early is what he said.
Yeah, I don't.
I had to get up at friggin 5 a.m. dude.
And I was driving and I knew I would get home and then I'd be all amped up, you know.
So I had to take a TPM, had some wild dreams.
And before I knew it, my alarm was going off.
And I was like, why am I?
alive right now.
And by alive, I mean not asleep.
But Charlie, you'd do anything for this podcast and the listeners.
Anything.
That's even get up at 6 a.m.
What time do you get up this morning?
I told 5 a.m. miles still tripping on that TPM, dude.
And, yeah, we're just coming out of it now.
You know, so if I'm a little slow, it's because I had a spiritual experience while my eyes were
closed.
And for those that don't always talk about, you're talking about Tylenol.
PM. Yes. Yes. Okay. Yes. For all of you who want over-the-counter hallucinations, Tylenol, PM.
Potentially a spot new sponsor. Hey. Yeah. I'm sure they would love that. Oh, my gosh. They say take two. I've never took two.
I'm not right in that dragon. No, sir. Wait, so you got that way with just off of one? Yeah. Oh, wow. Yeah. I don't know what's
going on in my brain chemistry, but as soon as it gets that blue pill, it's,
Time to blast off, mother trucker.
Which blue pill are you talking about?
The little blue pill or?
No, Tylenol PM is a blue pill, Miles.
What other blue pills are there?
I believe Viagra is notoriously.
All Viagra.
Some people take that for heart issues, Miles.
It's not just a boner medication.
Some people take it to work out.
Yeah.
Do they?
Get their blood pumping more.
Well, it is a vaso contractor,
which if you're into a lot of vaso-restrictors like nicotine,
maybe there's actually, you know what?
Folks, I'm not a doctor.
He has no idea what he's saying.
I do not, I hallucinate on Tylenolp.
Do not take any of my medical advice.
I have no schooling in this.
I haven't taken biology since sophomore year of high school.
That's a disclaimer.
Legally, are we covered?
Let's call Russell.
I think, I think this is a situation.
where the apple could not have fallen farther from the tree.
Oh, yeah.
My dad would be,
my dad would be like,
what are you even?
My dad constantly says,
where he,
I was just on the phone with him,
walking the sidewalk.
I was like,
where are you?
And I was like,
I'm up in Fargo.
He's like,
why?
I was like,
I'm doing the podcast.
He's like,
do people actually listen to the full podcast?
Because I tried to listen to an episode and you guys
weren't having a good day.
Something like that.
I was like,
Thanks, dad. What a rave review for the podcast, Charlie. Thank you for that. Yeah.
Well, that's making everyone who's listening for the full episode feel really good.
Hey, well, you know what? It's just because it's my, not my dad's cup of milk, doesn't mean it's not yours, folks.
And here's the other thing. My dad listens to me bullshit all day long. The last thing he wants to do when he's relaxing is listen to me, run my mouth.
Yeah. I mean, I think it's also, um, my mom says that she just gets frustrated.
on how much stuff we just get wrong,
kind of like
constrictors and whatever you're saying.
What? What's another thing we've gotten wrong?
Yeah, I don't know.
Cut to like someone out there
has a super cut of facts we've messed up.
Oh, well.
We're not professionals, folks.
That's why we're podcasters.
You made it here today, though, Charlie.
And you're in good spirits.
I always love to see you in good spirits.
I love to see you in good spirits, Miles.
You know, it's tough, though.
It's tough.
We're ending, end in summer.
We are, yeah.
Gosh, darn it.
When do you think the end of summer is?
Oh, I mean, it's probably when you leave the cabin for that last time.
I would agree.
I also think you can, I don't know what it is about humans and our ability to detect different types of air.
But there's a moment when you walk outside and you're like, it's fall.
the air just feels like fall.
It's just that little bite, that nip in the wind.
It could still be 70 degrees out, but you're just like, it's now, for whatever reason,
the air is full.
Yeah, it's not Jack Frost.
It's Tommy Fall, you know?
Something like that.
Tommy Fall.
But yeah, Charlie, Lake season, I would say, is probably over in the Midwest.
There's some stragglers that like going out all the way until it gets really cold out.
but I would say for the majority of people,
lake season's over.
They hung up the crocs at Labor Day
for a lot of folks, you know?
And but the best thing about
the best thing about the best thing about the end,
the best thing is a sneeze or a cough?
That was a cop.
Now that's how you know you're a dad
when you got to ask because says sneeze or a cough.
That's true.
Yeah.
My kid does mock me when I sneeze.
He thinks it's very funny.
Oh, I'm not my dad. This is how my dad sees.
Ask you. You know, that's how he does it.
My dad goes, uh, too, bruh.
That's good.
What does he add the extra little jibri at the end? I don't know.
Yeah, I like the jirubi.
Is that Swahili miles?
I don't know.
All right.
We, I don't know what it is.
Okay.
But yeah. I mean, I think the best thing about the end of lake season is that that means that
means that another lake season's coming up.
That's true.
And that's what we need to remember here in the Midwest is the Midwest lake season is not a goodbye at the end of the year.
No.
It's a we'll see you later.
We'll see you soon.
And I think actually, Charlie, this is a good moment for us to remember all the good times that we had in the Midwest lake season here in 2026.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah, the good times.
Let's remember the good times.
like when I when you when you lead the lid off when you leave the lid unlatched on the bait bucket
and they all swim away god that is so poetic miles just a great time oh my gosh you know you leave
the screen door open on accident and all the mosquitoes end up in the porch yeah all the good
stuff yeah all the good stuff like like uh you you you come downstairs and you find that the
toilets overflowing because someone took a massive dump in there and didn't tell anyone and just
said, this will probably fix itself. Well, no, it won't, Bill. No, it won't. Yeah, because I mean,
cabin plumbing is notoriously bad. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I'm going to miss, I'm going to miss forgetting
to put sunscreen on and getting third degree burns all over my body. Speaking of sunscreen,
I'm going to miss that one sunscreen bottle that I had for three and a half years, fall.
off the edge of the boat.
And who knew?
It didn't float.
What was in that sunscreen?
Wait, what do you mean?
I mean, you would think it's a bottle.
There's air in there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, maybe I didn't use enough.
You got the leaded sunscreen.
I got the leaded sunscreen.
You got to buy the unleaded.
Maybe I will buy the unleaded.
But that sunscreen lasted me a long time.
Miles, that sunscreen's been.
I'm with me longer than 99% of all my sunglasses.
Rest in peace, Iogs.
Yeah.
Speaking of I gogs.
I'll never forget that second pair I bought from the Quick Trip this year that fell to the bottom of the drink as I was looking down at the pole that my little nephew accidentally dropped in the water.
And I was like, can I go down there and get it?
Bye, buy sunglasses.
Bye.
Bye.
I try dragging.
I remember Miles Dragon buck tails for that pole thinking I might catch a reel or a rod or even just a line and nothing in the muck.
But it's a good memory.
You dropped your rod in the leg?
Yeah.
My son also dropped his, the rod we caught bober bass on.
Not the bobber bass.
The bottom of the lake.
We were going to frame the hot wheels rod.
We were going to frame it.
What about the rig, the rig with bobber bass?
So we're going to do the mount.
Yeah, we still got the, because I took the bobber off because he can't handle a hook yet.
Okay.
Yeah.
I took a lure and just took all the hooks off.
So he like, it still looks like a fish on there.
Yeah.
And you just cast that.
Oh, okay.
So he's not catching any fish.
No, not yet.
Next year is his year.
Okay.
He's still a little willy-nilly with the tip of the rod, you know.
Were we there when he caught his first fish?
Mm-hmm.
God.
Memories.
I was there for your son's first fish.
Miles, that means.
a lot.
Yeah, you were guiding my son that day.
I was guiding him.
And this is what happened.
As we were standing at the end of the dock,
I think we put a hot dog on the end,
and he pressed the button and just fell into the water,
no cast at all, and a little fish came and grabbed it.
That's what you get with Charlie Barron's guiding services.
You know, that's how it goes.
But you can't complain if you're catching fish,
you're getting your money's worth.
You're catching fish, you're catching fish, baby.
Yeah, I'm miles.
I'm also going to miss, Charlie, the inner family drama and theatrics of putting in and taking out the docks and all of the family drama in between.
Yeah, I'm going to miss backing the boats down the boat lift.
And my dad's saying, you're going the wrong way.
And I'm listening to music.
I'm not hearing anything he has to say.
And he goes, you're going the wrong way and getting heated and heated.
and I'm not listening at all.
And then finally knocks on the window.
And I say, hey, what's up?
And he goes, you're off the ramp.
And I go, oh, okay.
Ah, the memories.
Yeah.
It's an oddly specific one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know what I'm going to miss my mouth is putting the boat in the water,
putting the 14 footer right in the water and going,
oh, I guess that wasn't such a good rivet job after all.
just water trickling up through.
I'm going to miss digging our prop, too.
I'm going to miss digging the prop.
You know,
Miles,
those rocks,
they come out of nowhere.
We got a new prop, though,
by the way,
brand spanking.
No way.
We just got a little paint chipped off so far.
No,
really?
Yeah.
You got,
who sprung for that?
My dad,
he bought two of them
because he knew that the first one was going to be.
Did he really?
Dude,
did he,
the video and say, ah, it's time to get a new prop.
He was a little, he actually, so Charlie and I, if you didn't see it, did a video about
dad when you dig the prop.
And the reason why we did it is because Charlie took one look at our prop on her boat.
And it looked like a, like a bear took like three bites out of the.
It was impressive.
It's like the worst prop you probably ever seen.
And, uh, we put that video out.
And my dad said he ran into a buddy of his, like at the bar or something.
And he came up to my dad and was like, was that your prop?
It was like basically scolding him.
Like, you're better than that.
Your prop shouldn't look like that.
Really?
And he didn't throw you under the bus at that moment because you're trying to say I ding the prop?
Well, I know that you didn't because you made it very clear as I was giving you a razzing you on the prop.
You've also had that boat for 20 years, right?
Yeah, I mean, we probably had two props and maybe three.
props in 20 years.
I like that your dad sprung for two
right off. So he just never had to deal
with it again. Yeah, it should
last another 20. Yeah, he got enough
props at the next time. And he'll be in a nursing
home by then, so he won't have to worry about
it. Oh, geez.
He bought his last prop.
Dad,
it's a joke. We got
at least another 25 with you.
You know, Miles.
You know what I'm going to miss maybe most about the lake is, you know,
it's going to be at least another half a year before your buddy comes over with a Timo
flame thrower that your little nephew is going to see him be obsessed with the entire time he's up at the cabin.
So I made you the funkel with my Timmu flame thrower?
You made me the funcle, yeah.
What did his parents think of his, of him rocking around with a flamethrower?
You're not touching that.
it was fun though i mean it's only shaped like a assault rifle right it shaped like a bazooka is what
it's shaped like a mini bazooka it looks like if you put a giant silencer on an assault on an
they are yeah they know how to sell stuff to americans
so that's what i'm going to miss about the lake charlie and remember folks
The end of Midwest Lake season isn't a goodbye.
It's just a we'll see you later.
God.
Just think about that when you're pouring RV fluid into your toilet.
Another turning point of fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the rest of wrecks you where to go.
So make the best of this.
Something don't ask why.
It's not a question,
but a lesson learned in time.
It's something unpredictable.
Like throwing your fishing rod in the lake.
But in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
And I will raise you up on eagle's wings.
How do you know all the worst?
How do you know all the words to that Green Day song, but not your church song?
On Eagle's Wings deserves better, Miles.
Get your ass to mass.
I do.
I just do it for the bit.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
All right.
Well, then let's not do it for the bit and let's prove it.
Let's hear it.
And I will raise you up on Eagle's Wings.
Bear for the Cross of Life.
made to shun like the sun and all you live in the palm of his hand.
Hunt.
Hunt.
Hunt.
It was slant rhymes back in the...
Yeah, kind of like Eminem.
Yeah.
Like Eminem wrote a church song.
Oh, God, that would be good.
We should ask Eminem fellow Midwesterner if he wants to borrow one of our beat.
for his next album.
We have beats.
Well, you know, he could remix our
on Eagle's Wings.
I'm sure he's Catholic.
Yeah.
Can we look up what religion is Eminem?
He's probably non-Denami.
I don't know.
For sure, Catholic, dude.
The way he, the way he rhymes.
It's just no way that there's data on that, is there?
On the internet?
I'm sure at some point it's come up.
I'm sure some interviewers like, hey, what church did you go to going on?
Have you watched eight mile?
Yeah.
Have you watched eight miles?
Well, I'm sure Rabbit, before he was Rabbit, was, you know.
Has never officially labeled his specific religion.
But.
Okay.
Well, we won't know.
We are agnostic to.
He did actually, didn't he put out a song called Rap God?
That's true.
This is true.
I think we so Eminem thinks God is a rapper.
No, he thinks that he is God.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
Kind of goes against the whole Catholicism thing.
I suppose.
Well, I suppose, Miles.
That's what we would call a false idol.
Golden Calf.
All right.
Should we take some callers?
I think we should take some callers, Charlie.
Let's do it.
Logan, how you doing, my guy?
Good.
How are you?
Oh, real good.
my name's Charlie. I'm here with a friend of mine. His name is Miles.
Hello, Logan.
Hello. Where are you driving to?
I am on my way to Kansas City to pick up combine parts. If you want, I can swap you off of
car play. Oh, no. It sounds good.
What parts are we getting for the combine there, Logan?
Um, hydraulic hoses, among other things.
My father had a little accident last night.
Oh shit.
What happened?
Bodily accident or machinial accident?
Uh, so we were, uh, we're picking corn and he was unloading on the grain cart, and he hit a hole.
And he stopped it immediately.
And when he stopped it, it just kept unloading onto the ground.
And he went to shut it off.
and the whole machine just died.
Oh, shit.
So, yeah, yeah.
So I'm driving five hours one way to pick it up and drive five hours back.
Wait, just hoses?
Well, and then like where it cools the hydraulic oil, that component was shot too.
Okay.
So we have to, and the closest one was Kansas City.
Now, I'll be honest, I'm not very good knowing about hydraulic hoses,
but does something like that screw up a hose pretty good?
I've never seen this before.
I don't speak a lot of mechanic ease either, but I've never seen this.
Hey, you're doing what you can, though.
You're making the long trek there, and apparently there's a hydraulic hose shortage, and where are you?
I'm in central Illinois, not Chicago.
You would think that someone in central Illinois, like, you know, somewhere around,
Frick Springfield.
They don't have a hydraulic
place, you know?
Well, I think it's, yeah, I think it's the part that it plugs into is what
Oh, I see.
Probably too much pressure on that and it popped off or something.
So, Logan, I don't know a lot about farming.
You know, I was in the trade.
But it seems to me that every farmer I encounter,
it seems that they do a whole lot more mechanicking than they are farming.
Is that kind of accurate with the profession?
Yeah, I would say there's just as much mechanicking as there is actual farming.
We have a couple of mechanics full time and they would definitely say that.
Yeah, I mean, if you can have a couple full timers, that helps.
But I just feel like those machines are always busted.
Yeah, even if you get a new one, it still seems to have a lot of problems.
So why that's just the nature of the beast?
The new ones, you need like a USB port to fix them.
And you're like, who thought this was a good idea?
You need computers.
That is 100% accurate.
What a pain in the pecker.
Yeah.
But you didn't call in to talk about your mechanical issues, did you, Logan?
No, no, but I got a couple other things.
Do you want me to just go ahead and shoot them?
Shoot them.
All right.
So three years ago, my wife and I decided to get a foreign exchange student, which turned into us getting two.
I like how you act like it's like a back of Costco.
Yeah, like, oh, we, you know, we decided to get a, you know, we decided to get a shed out back.
and they had a bogo.
We decided to buy a golf cart.
It was a big decision for us.
Well, I mean, do you think I'm kidding?
That's actually what I was scrolling on Facebook and there was a picture of a kid.
And it said if he didn't have a home by Saturday, he wasn't allowed to come.
And I'm like, honey, we can't, we can't let this happen.
And we signed up like that night.
That's, it really was.
It was like a foster, you know, like when you see a dog that needs adopted, it was kind of
like that that's wild man i've never known someone to have so much empathy for someone in need of
a overseas place to stay but you know you see miles every screw has its whole so um that's good
good for you Logan yeah um and uh so he stayed with us for a year along with another one the one
had to go home, but he is still with us three years later.
Well, this is no longer an exchange program, my guy.
I think you adopted someone.
Yeah, I don't know how it happened, but it happened.
And we're just trying to figure out, you know, we've taken them a lot of places.
But, you know, I listen to this podcast all the time, and I'm just sitting here like,
huh, I wonder where you guys would think he would need to go to get a true Midwestern experience.
Okay.
A couple questions.
One.
Before we get to your question.
One, are we sure that this isn't like a kidnapping situation?
That was my question also.
I do have proof.
It's not.
My wife and I actually just went to Poland in August to visit his whole family.
they willingly let him come.
Okay.
All right.
How old is he?
How old is he?
He just turned 18 September 2nd.
So he's been living with you from 15 to 18, if my math is correct.
Yep.
And he full time.
Like he's not going back to Poland for summers.
He went back home for five weeks this summer.
And that's it?
Yep.
Okay.
Is this, is there, is that normal in Poland or are they just like Russia is getting a little too crazy?
Let's send them to America.
Poland is pretty pro America like the people are there.
It is not normal for a one year exchange student to end up being here for three.
And then by the time he's done with college, it'll be five, six years.
And they might work here too.
So that is not normal.
No.
Okay.
Well,
what's the reason for that?
He's as crazy as we are.
Okay.
All right.
He loves it here.
He likes the farm.
He just loves America.
So he just wanted to stay.
That's great.
Wonderful.
All right.
So my-
This is going to be another random niche question for you.
What kind of ping pong does he play?
Does he play?
play Polish ping pong?
I don't know if he plays
Polish ping pong, but the kid really does
love to play ping pong.
I knew it.
The Polish love ping pong.
We used to play Polish ping pong in high school.
Really?
What is Polish ping pong?
I mean, I don't know.
I don't know if this is just specific to me,
but we call the Polish ping pong where you play ping pong,
but if you lose a point, you then
the other person gets the ball in hand,
the other person on the other person,
on the other side of the table has to lift their shirt up and the person gets to whack the ping pong
as hard as they can and try to hit him in the stomach.
We call that Polish ping pong.
That's awesome, dude.
I kind of want to play that.
I'll ask him tonight.
I doubt that's a game he's played.
Okay.
Well, maybe you guys should.
Try it out with him.
Yeah.
Binding experience.
Father son bombing time.
Oh, wow.
So have you adopted him?
we are known as his American parents.
So he calls you dad.
No, I mean, in his phone, I am Logan Dad.
Logan Dad.
English, he's still working on the English.
And he's Crispin's son and mine.
So there you go.
Wow.
That's really cute.
Yeah.
And you got a good relationship with his folks?
oh yeah yep yep they've been here one two three or four times already to come over and visit oh that's great
wonderful well you know it's they they do things different over there and pulling miles i understand
the exchange program it can be good and all that but having a son of my own and just shipping them off
across the world to go live with another family i just can't even fathom that i'm not saying it's wrong
I'm just saying I can't even fathom that.
Give it 15 years and once have this conversation.
I mean, I thought his parents were nut and thuds personally.
I couldn't do it either, Miles.
I thought the same thing.
But I think after they go and you get to know the family
and you see how much the kids enjoying it, it's different too.
Yeah, I suppose.
Yeah.
So do you have any kids of your own?
Nope, we got dogs.
What kind of dogs?
So they, yeah, no.
Yes, we have a, let's see, we got a Beagle, we got an Australian Shepherd, we got a junkyard dog with an underbite, and we got just a mixed, kind of like a hunting dog.
Nice, nice.
I like it.
All right.
Well, back to the original question, Charlie.
Where, what's his name, Chris, Crispin?
Yep, Crispin.
well i think you guys got to see the uh world's biggest fiberglass loon up there in
mercer wisconsin that's not accurate the largest fiberglass loon is in vergus
minnesota uh that's bullshit miles uh jared look it up look it up and you're going to owe me
ten dollars which i'm going to put into that gambling machine right over there after the show king
Kong, 10 bucks. Yeah. Largest fiberglass loon. I mean, fiberglass. Yeah.
Just world's largest loon statue. That was not to bet, Miles. Largest fiberglass
loon for sure is in Mercer, Wisconsin. So what happens if you're both wrong?
Oh, shit. No, that's the world's largest floating floating. Floating.
Floating. It needs to be on the land. First of all. That was in Silver Lake Minnesota.
I will give this.
I will give some credit to Silver Lake Minnesota for floating a five years.
I wish that more people would think about that.
Do they have to bring that loon in every winter?
Or do they do?
They bring it in.
Well, you would think.
And can you jump off that wound?
I got to go to Silver Lake to find.
Well, now we just got to another place.
Don't go to Virgus.
Don't go to Merse or go to Silver Lake.
That's.
It does mention Vegas on the bottom.
Let's go.
The city of Vegas, Minnesota.
also features a famous 20 foot tall giant statue can we figure out the height of the one in mercer
bucks gosh darn it bucks son of a gun so yeah go check out some fiberglass loons would be what we recommend
all right what else you got charlie i'm just wanting to get a how big is it mercer loon is 16 feet
though other one is 20 feet son of a gun let's go well i'm going to use that other 10 dollars over there
the timeless journey machine to win back some money and not have it go to Grover Gaming,
friends of the children.
Oh, you could bring them to Fargo to gamble because all the money goes to charity.
That's true.
Yeah, you can.
Can you go around to casino at 18?
Sure.
No, not.
I don't.
Yeah, you can.
You got to be 21.
Sign somewhere and says it.
Get them a fake ID.
Show them the real American experience.
All right. I can do that. I have a few connections for that.
There you go.
Have you taken them to Waldrug and Mount Rushmore yet?
No. What at Waldrug?
Yeah, it's quite the magical place.
It's kind of the Disney world of South Dakota is what I think Waldrug is.
Yeah.
We will be in South Dakota in February.
Are you going to go to Deadwood?
we're going on a visit hunting trip
it's out the middle of nowhere
yeah that sounds about right nice
that's where dude daddy's from
out in the middle of nowhere South Dakota
if you get on the interstate
headed west
you'll see all the wall drug signs
so you'll run right into them and if you just
keep following it you'll run into it
another thing
that you can do is and
are you driving to South Dakota
yeah
Yeah, we are.
Just come up to Wisconsin first and have a nice pre-feasant hunt stay at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
And what's so special about this resort, Charlie?
Well, it's got an indoor water park.
And actually, it doesn't have to be the Kalahari.
You could do the Great Wolf Lodge.
You could do Noah's Ark water park.
But, yeah, get yourself some Wisconsin Dells action in there.
and also make some time to visit the house on the rock,
which is a house on a rock.
Oh, pretty.
Miles, what else you got?
You could get them up to an interpretive center here in North Dakota.
Do you guys like camping and shit?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We actually own two campers.
Well, do you like portaging and sleeping in a tent?
Miles, I don't think you can portage a camper very.
I know. That's why I said a different type of camping.
Oh, okay.
Sure.
Where are you going?
You just got to get up to the boundary waters in Minnesota.
That's just it's done burning.
So next summer, it should be ripe for the portaging.
Has he caught a walleye yet?
He has not.
He's going to start going hot in this year.
And I think he might start going fishing too.
Is he going to go bull hunting or gun hunting?
Gun, I believe.
How does that work for someone who is not a citizen of the United States and or a citizen of the state you're in get a hunting license?
What's the protocol on that?
Well, you're supposed to have a social security number.
I knew supposed to was going to be in his answer.
He's like, I have a farm.
So he actually, since he's at a college now, he's going to get a job through the college,
and they're going to give him a social security number for that.
So he's looking at that, and we also have my buddy or my brother has a duck hunting club,
and one of his members is in the legal area, and he's actually looking into what we need to do for him.
So I don't really have an exact answer on how to make it legal yet.
Yeah, you're just going to delegate that to the school and the lawyer.
Smart idea.
Yeah, yeah.
Because I, yeah, it's over.
It's above my pay grade.
There you go.
I'm actually a little more curious on when he first came to the states.
What were the things that he was enamored by?
Did he walk into a quick trip for the first time and was like, holy shit, you Americans are doing it right?
actually
so when he first got here
I didn't think anything of it
and we picked him up
and we have a F-250 pickup truck
and that's what we picked him up in
and he just kind of stared at it
like if you're in the headlines like what in the hell is this
come to find out his parents' first car
was a 0.66-liter engine
that's that's awesome
two third's leader
yeah yep and if you went up a big hill
it hit about 30 mile an hour so
and that's that's if you didn't have a lot of people in it
so when he saw our truck he instantly was kind of in shock
and then we took them to dairy queen on the way home to get a blizzard
that's a nice treat the DQ
yeah and it was a medium
and the kid ate about a third of it
and said it was way too much.
Oh, man.
Wow.
Wow.
Yeah.
So after going to Poland, I can definitely say size does matter.
Whoa.
Okay.
Do they not have big portions?
You know, we went in Poland and we went to Czech Republic too.
They definitely know what a big beer is.
is, but everything else, not so much.
Tiny portions.
Tiny portions.
Yes.
Yes.
Which they are also tinier people.
Yeah, maybe we should take note as a society.
Yes.
Yes.
Seriously, I think they're doing some things right over there.
Maybe not the 18 ounce ribai.
Are they shorter?
Well, I don't know if we need to give that one.
Yeah.
You know, maybe just a small cup of mac and
cheese for a side instead of a whole plate. Maybe not a super size of McDonald's.
Maybe like three chicken strips, not five. Yeah. Yeah. The cheesecake factory really messed up
portion sizes for the rest of the world. That's where you're, you're Applebee's.
You're drawing all this back to the cheesecake factory? Yeah. What's the math on that? I'd love to know.
Miles, sometimes random words just pop out of my head and then I got to defend them.
I prefer not to.
I think we can trace it back to McDonald's.
Oh, yeah.
Super size.
That's true.
That's true.
But if you look at a super.
But Chuck says it's the cheesecake factory.
Well,
just got that much cheesecake flowing through the walls.
It's not even the cheesecake in the factories.
They're a salad.
I mean, the salads are like family size servings, you know.
Yeah.
And you're like, I can't eat.
much lettuce what do you think i came here with like a family of rabbits what are we going to do here
you know and um you know it's kind of embarrassing i'm getting a salve from the cheesecake factory
but i'm trying to be better miles so charlie i also i have a question for you yeah so i know that you
grew up there was 12 of you yeah but for some reason yeah i feel like at some point you guys had a
foreign exchange suit.
We might have and not known it.
It's like,
I just feel like we got that many,
might as well just throw it on.
Yeah.
Just tack it on,
put it on your tab.
So I know you didn't have ones.
No,
there were random kids at the table that people weren't sure where they came from,
but,
you know,
they were there.
And we weren't all too happy about it.
There was just enough food to go around.
So the forks came out.
You ever been stabbed?
in the hand with a fork
over a burger miles?
I have not, no. Yeah. I've
seen people take for less
bull lucky charms. But
anyways, do they have lucky charms
in Poland?
No, they don't have a lot of,
they don't have a lot of the stuff that we do.
Oh, Jared said
that's Ireland.
Ireland. Lucky charms.
It's a,
ah.
Yeah, it's
pretty simplistic thickings over there
when you go to a grocery store.
Yeah.
Do they
so we have Polish
hot dogs?
Polish sausages.
Polish sausage here.
Yeah.
Did you get some of that when you were over there?
Yeah.
You guys should look up.
It's called Zepka.
It'd be like
a lighter.
Their gas station.
Oh, Zepka.
I feel like I've seen a Zepka
somewhere here in America.
Remember you know Poland.
Remember?
Oh, yeah.
So where is Crispin from?
He would be,
uh,
let's see,
it'd be close,
an hour from,
uh,
Warsaw.
He's from an hour from Warsaw.
You know where that is.
Uh,
Klotsko.
Klotsko.
Oh.
Let's go.
Yeah,
you know where that's at.
If you look it up real quick on Google.
Clots go.
Damn it.
He,
he, he hit the bit.
What,
you know,
You know, we were trying to have some fun here, but like I was going to tell you all about Klaus
but, you know, like just north there of Elton Pro.
So, well, Charlie, yeah.
I wasn't hot on my thing.
I had to go get my phone.
That's why this delay happened.
Anyways, I think you got a good little set of ideas there to take them through the Midwest.
Do you get paid to have a foreign exchange student?
So, no, you do it all for free, but the person in charge of, like, finding host families and stuff,
they actually get paid for every student they place.
So shameless plug, I will this upcoming school year be a coordinator for EF exchange program.
So if anyone listening is interesting having a exchange student, you could find me on the social.
and I'll help you find yourself an exchange kid.
Miles, I'm not getting an exchange student.
Charlie's been talking to me about, you know,
wondering about the meaning of life and finding a new purpose in life.
And he's finding his why.
He's finding his why he's been telling me a bunch about how there just seems to be a
hole missing in his life.
You know, Miles,
I'm not getting his change student for Logan who's running like the Mary Kay of people
over here.
Is this?
I would even take a cut.
Is this multi-level marketing for foreign folks there, Logan?
I cannot confirm nor deny anything.
I'm just doing my job.
Let me ask you, the coordinator who found you, is she getting a cut of your coordination?
You know, that's actually a quick question.
I have no idea.
I bet she is.
Did we just uncover?
Yeah, what if we did just uncover some sort of a scheme or something?
and we're on date line.
You know?
Like, these two idiots.
Also, you get a red dot on your forehead.
It's from the Polish guy in that golf course over there.
You know, Charlie, I really think you should consider it.
What, getting in exchange, Miles, I can't take care of a plant, dude.
Yeah, but I think it's kind of one of those things that when you're thrust into a moment of responsibility, you rise to the occasion.
Yeah, but I'm not.
thrust into this. I'd have to decide
to do it. And usually
when you're thrust into something, it's when you have
an unexpected pregnancy. Logan got
by the last MLM guy that got
him to get a Ford Exchange student because
he created a false sense of
urgency. Crispin wasn't
even planning to come over.
And he just found a
random photo of Crispin on the
internet and just said,
if we don't find a home for him, he can't come.
And then you guys got
suckered into the deal, the classic sense of urgency sale.
They kidnapped Kristen. They brought them over here.
Wow. That's exactly. And now that we're talking about it in front of the phones,
my Facebook's going to be like, hey. Charlie wants to adopt a foreign exchange student.
Jericho over there. And yeah, Jericho. We're with Jericho from Transylvania.
He's looking for a nice Wisconsin home. And he's got 32 hours left.
before he's stuck in vampire land forever.
Can't go out there in the dead.
So, Logan, what do you think of that idea of maybe Charlie?
Because he seems open to it.
What would you think about him?
I think this would be great.
Especially you can sit there in their profiles and you can say like what your interest are.
So you can put like comedy, bird watching, hot dishes, etc.
And it'll pull up other, you know, students who like the same things as you.
So then you could have a bird watching buddy.
You could have somebody watch your sets to give you some new jokes or some things.
You could almost build free labor team out of foreign exchange students.
Actually.
You could be like, oh, put on there that you're interested in video editing.
And then you get a.
Oh, dude.
Now we're talking.
Free labor.
Works for and not harder, Charlie.
Likes Premier Pro.
Well, we're talking.
Like to sell merchandise at events.
Yeah.
You know?
No, I'm thinking about it more seriously, Miles.
Uh, likes to personally assist people in travel plans.
You know, stuff like that.
Yeah.
Does not like money.
Good communicators with people outside of the organization they're in to make the other
person's life easier due to great communicators.
You know, you can put that as like an interest of yours.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, even though that's, yeah.
You know?
Yeah.
It could, you know, it could help the people in your life.
Well, then they'll send me an email and I won't get back to him for three weeks.
And they'll be like, this guy doesn't like good communication.
That's true.
Well, I'll think about it.
I'll think about it.
In all seriousness, what would have to happen for Charlie to be able to get a foreign exchange student?
Yeah, please.
Let's keep going down this rabbit hole.
so you just sit in an application and you just uh you got to take pictures of your house that
way they know you're not a living in some shady area or have a bad house and you got to commit
to feeding them uh you know two to three meals a day stuff like that two to three yeah do especially
if it's poland you know like two american meals are like four in poland um you do have to go through
a background check, so I don't know if
you'll pass that, but you can do that do that.
Yeah.
Well, that's where we end.
I mean, what are they
looking for in a family to take a
foreign exchange to? Just cleanliness,
clean background, and that's it,
an ability to be able to afford
food for the kid?
I mean, yeah, those really are the big things.
I think you could do all
of those. You could pass
this test and you could have
you could have crispin 2.4.
0.0 at just traveling with you all the time, teaching you a new language.
Maybe that's not a bad idea, Miles.
Then you got a travel companion.
You know, you can take online school.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe I could get a dog.
I'd have someone to stay home with the dog, too.
Yeah, there you go.
Just leave him at home by himself.
It's a good idea.
No, I get the dog so neither of them by themselves.
I mean, his is 18.
That's true.
Yeah.
I think Charlie's just got a new life ahead of him.
I think this is Charlie turning the next page.
Yeah, I think we might be able to fill that hole in your chest.
You know, the more we talk about it, the more I'm warming up to the idea, Miles, honestly.
Yeah, I could get a Polish.
I'd do that.
And it doesn't have to be Poland.
It could be any country.
I mean, the options are, you could have two or three if you are.
Yeah, you could get a Brazilian.
you could get a this whole you get a Kazakhstanian you know you can get them all wow like
Pokemon yeah we'll start calling you Charlie catch him Charlie catch him yeah that'd be good that'd be
real good and then I got a free vacation spot right in all these countries yeah you got to pay for a
hotel yeah we just yeah we just went to three different countries that you know it was pretty well
all free because of it we're going to go to
Belgium to see our first exchange girl next year.
Well, shoot.
That's not a bad idea.
You know, you see the world.
You make some lifelong friends.
Dude, you know what he's doing?
You know what Logan's doing?
He's pimping out for an exchange business on here, on our podcast.
Yeah, I thought that's what we're doing.
Yeah.
But, oh, is that what we're doing?
I'm just, I'm slow.
I'll put that on my application.
Slow on the pickup.
all right well where can people find your your business here Logan let's let's close a loop on it yeah
if you just uh google eF exchange program you will see their website and from there you can uh you got
questions they have like like uh you're frequently asked questions i'll answered and if you're
really interested you can you can go uh sign up and whoever your uh local coordinator uh in that area is
we'll reach out to you.
Just you got to make sure you give the name Logan Clark, you know, from bellied up.
That way I get a little piece of the pie, you know?
Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Yeah, that's all fine and dandy.
You want to place kids, all the other stuff.
But really why you're calling is so you can get more people to sign underneath you, correct?
And so if you want to become a coordinator, you just hit up Logan so that he can get three people underneath him.
And those three people can get three people under them.
And that is my.
Miles is what we call a, a good business plan.
Yeah.
All right, Logan, well, this is great.
You helped us.
We helped you.
Charlie has, I mean, he's, I think he's, his wheels are turning.
I'm thinking about it, Logan.
I'm thinking about it.
Purpose in life.
I'll be a daddy after all.
You know how to get a hold of me anytime.
Anytime you, uh,
have any questions.
just fire away. All right. Hey, good luck with the combine, my guy. Hey, before I go, I do,
you guys haven't had one of these in a while. I got to buy seller trade. Is it a combine?
No. Is it a foreign exchange student? It's actually a trade with you two. Oh, okay. Good.
Okay. My brother has a hunting club, and I think you guys are kind of into that kind of thing.
and we have a three-bed, two-bath cabin on the premises.
And we were going to offer a trade because I know Charlie gets bummed a lot of tickets off of him on this show.
There's no exchange in anything.
That's true.
You get bummed a lot.
You just give and you give and you give, Charlie.
Well, you give and you give and you give.
And I close the deal.
Let's say it that way. I hear what you're saying there, Logan. So is it a duck camp from what I remember you saying?
Well, and we do. There's deer hunting out there. I mean, duck's the big thing, but there's deer hunting too.
But we were going to see if you would trade some sort of stay and go duck hunting. And my brother would be your tour guide.
He is the expert of that in exchange for on Charlie's side to get his in tickets to one of his show.
and Miles, we were going to see, I just built a man cave.
Okay.
And we were going to see, there's a nice couple spots on my wall that look a little empty.
Okay.
If you have anything for the man cave, that would be your trade.
All right.
What do you think, Charlie?
I think we can do.
How far are you from Effingham?
I'd be about three hours, maybe four, about four hours.
I know.
I'm coming through Effingham, Illinois.
Miles, did you know there was an Effingham, Illinois?
No.
Do you know where the F-Effingham, Illinois is?
No. Neither do I.
But it's south.
It's south. Okay. So that's a show.
And then I got some other place in Illinois I'm playing.
All right. You know what? We'll get you tickets to that.
Give us your name.
Actually, when you find out which show you want to go to, unless you already know,
just send us, send Jared that show, and we'll get you tickets to that show. Yeah, it would be how many
tickets you want and what's your name, what's your full name, right? Yeah, you just send the tickets and the full
name, and we will get you as many as we can to that show. And yeah, we'll, and then we'll have to get
and send us the details on the old hunt club. And I'll look through our office and see if we got any good
man cave stuff laying around. I know we got something. Awesome. Well, I will say that was a good trade then.
And I won't do the Midwestern goodbye. I've already taken enough of y'all's time. Thank you very much for
talking to me. Yeah. We'll talk to you soon now. Yep. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Wow. You'll learn something new
every day, Miles. We're joined by our guest today here. We got Russell. Nicolet, ladies and gentlemen.
Fear in the flesh.
The beard to fear.
Thanks for having me, boys.
Appreciate it.
No, thank you, Russell.
Thank you.
Hey, I'm glad you make the trip to Fargo, too.
It's a beautiful drive, isn't it?
Oh, it was a beautiful drive except for the semi that threw a rock in my windshield.
Oh, no.
And if you had been injured, who would you call?
He'd call himself.
Yeah, I would.
I'd have been on.
Pick up.
You got two phones?
Yeah.
I do.
I actually do.
So call yourself from the bag phone in your car.
car. Yeah. So Russell, I have a question for you. You know, I think about lawyering often. Do you?
Yeah. I sometimes am like, how can, if you just present the evidence, you know, it should be a, it should be easy to digest, but being a good lawyer is not necessarily presenting the evidence, but how you present the evidence at times.
true and you got to be persuasive and concise so you don't lose the judge or the jury and you're talking
to two guys here can be pretty persuasive right charlie not always concise but definitely persuasive
we know how to goose a judge so charlie and i've been working on a little list of things that
we think if we were a lawyer we would like to try out on the judge ah yeah and you tell us you can be
the judge.
You'd be the judge, John, if this is a good
idea. If this would work on the judge.
Yeah, we're working. Okay. And I, before we
get in this, I would just like to say, your
beard is looking great today. Thank you.
I appreciate that. Wow.
I just wanted to get that out of the way. Can I get you a drink?
Yeah. Yeah, I probably. What would you like?
It's on Charlie. Charlie's buying.
Yeah. Let's go through your questions first.
Oh, oh yeah. I forgot about the question. I would
questions i was just enjoying your company oh well yeah just glad that you're here i appreciate that guys
okay you go ahead charlie so let's say let's say i got some in my pocket for the judge some that's
hard and cold a beer a beer uh-huh and i say hey judge after this i got some in my pocket for you
It's hard and cold.
It's a beer.
See, you have the funny ha-ha with the hard part, and then you say cold, and that's where it throws people off.
Oh, if I were to tell the judge, I got a beer for him after this.
Like, we hang on, we have a beer.
I buy you a beer.
That's what I'm trying to say.
So I think a judge would appreciate a cold beer after a long day of handling all kinds of litigants and everything going on in the courtroom.
But I don't know if a beer.
would sway a judge, although I think it wouldn't hurt
because the judge would know that you're down-to-earth lawyer
and you're in there, you know, understand the dilemma
that judge has of, you know, trying to deal with all these issues,
but needs a little right laxation time after work.
So you'd be like, well, how about this?
To make Charlie's idea better, telling the judge
that you were thinking about how tough his job might be
last night over a beer.
So not only does it signal you're a down-to-earth guy,
you're also being empathetic to the judge
and is the way his job is.
I mean, I think it wouldn't hurt,
but also generally,
in my experience over the last 19 years,
I have not seen many judges.
I haven't seen any judges,
any judges that have been bribed with a beer.
I didn't say that.
He's bribing.
His tactic was bribery.
I didn't say bribe.
I was just saying, you know, get a gift.
Isn't that bribery?
It works in the Supreme Court.
I did not suggest bribe.
Can you bribe a Supreme Court?
judge? Well, I just, you know, the judges in the Midwest are held to a higher standard. A high standard.
They hold themselves to higher standard. Higher standard in the Supreme Court. Yeah. The supremest court is in the Midwest.
Got it. So guys, if you are injured, you got to call this guy. Give him a jingle and he's going to help take care of you.
Sounds good. 1-8555, Nicolet. Nicolet. Larry, what do you up to today? You got Charlie and Miles
in the belly to podcast.
Well, I'm actually just holding out from the rain at work here.
Where are you at?
I'm working in Traverse City, Michigan.
I'm from Gaylord, Michigan at the moment.
Oh, I was just up in Travers City.
Yeah, I saw that.
I was working here.
I didn't get a chance to see your show.
That's all right.
Some people got to work, Charlie.
Everyone can't just be parading around the United States, making jokes all the time.
You know, Miles.
Not everyone could just be wanderlust and, you know, go birdwatching in every city and just say a bunch of jokes all the time, all right?
Some people got to work like Larry.
Well, Larry, as you heard, not all of us can go whine and dine in Traverse City.
I went up to the sand dunes up there.
Of course you did.
I took a stroll on the dunes of sand, the sleepy bear sands.
oh yeah that's a nice area
that does
Larry'd love to get up there but he's got to work
oh yeah that that spot nearly
killed me years ago when I was younger
did it why did you fall
into the sand that
well
there's two parts of the sand dune
there's the part that overlooks the water
years ago they didn't have a fence
line up there so you could wander down
to dunes yeah
well
I went to
wandering down and a slow walk turned into a trot and that trot turned into a brisk run and next thing
you know i was tumbling down were you doomed larry oh yeah by the time i hit the ground at the
water side i was breathing heavy and i lost my glasses and stunned and then the worst part was is i still
had to walk back up on things larry you're one of those kids that could break his leg in a sandbox growing up
Oh, I certainly was.
Wandering down the dunes.
Sounds like an OAR album.
It does, doesn't it?
I was wandering down the dunes.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
It was a crazy game of poker.
I will not support OAR slander on this podcast.
There's no OAR slander.
It's the soundtrack of divorced ads, Miles.
It's middle school kids.
Are the mills?
kids are into O-I-R again?
When I was a middle school kid, dude,
that was when I first started listening to him.
But now you're divorced dad age.
And congratulations on keeping it together.
But Larry, you didn't call in to talk about that time
where you almost died in the softest place in the world.
You had something else important on your mind.
Oh, yeah, I was looking for a little bit of advice from you, too.
Okay.
All right.
We can do that.
Yeah.
What's cooking here?
So recently, I just bought a piece of property on Drummond Island there in the U.P.
Not to brag.
Oh, Drummond Island, huh?
Yeah, if you get the chance, you should swing over there.
Oh, Charlie's been there.
Charlie knows it.
Yeah.
I forget the lake.
It's on, though, Drummond Island.
Drummond Island.
Beyond Lake here on.
beyond Lake Huron
Oh, yeah, it's the drummond island.
Yeah, you know, that is a nice spot, right?
Just not short of Sue St. Marie,
who some people call Salt St. Marie,
if they're not from there.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And that's nice.
You're just by the,
you're just a Cockburn Island away from being a troll, aren't you?
Yeah, close to it.
Yeah.
See, Charlie,
knows that area.
Really good.
You bought some property there, Charlie, since you know the area, is that a pretty good investment?
I was thinking of the tour village myself, but, you know, someone wants to go Drummond Island
right over there with the other Sturgeon Bay by Pigeon Cove.
I mean, it's a nice spot, isn't it?
How many acres did you get there on Drummond Dial?
I got five acres on the island.
Good for you.
Good for you.
My dilemma was, is do I, do I?
I just want to put a little cabin there, but I'm just tossed between, do I build something?
And I don't have a lot of time with the job that I have.
Or do I buy one of those pre-built, like, Amish shed cabin type things?
I just have a prefab.
I'm going to tell you this, my buddy, Adam, he got himself one of those Amish cabins.
And all he had to do is put up the concrete footers.
and I'll tell you this, he's between two rivers.
So he put those on stilts about three foot high.
Those three foot stilt concrete, Miles,
what do we call those in the concrete business?
Like pillars?
Basically pillars.
Yeah.
And so yeah.
And so yeah, it's Roman down below and Amish up top is what it is.
Get it?
That's a pillars joke, Miles.
So you're pro-O-Omish prefab.
I respect the Amish woodworking.
He's saying he doesn't have time, which is why I'm saying if you're going to go pre-fab,
get an Amish prefab.
Yeah, of course.
Why not?
And they're not crazy expensive.
No.
Those Amish aren't totally.
I think they'll just do it for like, just like a half a cow.
It's a little more than half a cow, but I don't think they're taken into account current
inflation rates.
So you can get a good deal on those.
You mean they haven't been up to date on what?
you know, inflation is on the internet?
I don't think so.
The prices are affordable, but I'm told I can build one cheaper, but like I said.
Yeah, you can.
You absolutely can.
It'll be a big pain in the pecker, though.
Oh, yeah.
Even if I had the time to, you know, build it, disassemble it and take it up there and
reassemble it.
I mean, I know it would be cheaper and I have plenty of help to do it.
It's just with the, like I said, with the job I have.
I mean, you can't even get to a Charlie Barron show.
You're not going to have time to be prefabbing your own cabin.
And the way you injured yourself in that God's biggest sandbox, we're just...
You mean...
No nail guns for you.
Yeah, you injured yourself on sand?
I would stay away from power tools and sharp objects.
You're going to drop a wall on yourself, my guy.
You're going to gutted at some point.
Maybe get a bubble.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe see if they have a problem.
prefab Amish bubble you can put yourself.
I mean, to my defense, it is a really steep hill.
Yeah, it is steep.
No doubt.
Why don't you just fall on your seat and slide down?
Well, I have to go back and jump the fence and give her another try.
Yeah, I think you got to, I think you got to conquer your fear.
Look the belly and the beast.
I think you got to go.
I think you should get an Amish prefab.
yeah but that now he's on an island miles how the hell is that going to work
they got a ferry right yeah the ferry will can take pretty much anything across
okay well then you got to think because i mean you're going to have to ferry something anyways
even if you build it yourself so you're already in for the ferry cost yeah so why not just
have it already built for you especially since you don't have the time yeah
That was what I was leaning towards, but I keep getting plenty of people telling me, well, just build it.
Just build it.
Well, so with the building.
Charlie, he did say that he's got plenty of help, which does, you do got to factor that in.
And how cool is it when you can say I built this thing?
That's true.
You know, I mean, and honestly, this is, it's not like you're living in this home right now, right?
No.
All right.
So what do you do for a living?
I'm a pipeline welder.
Oh, okay.
All right.
So he's got some skills, some welding skills.
So, yeah, you can just and siphon off that pipeline, put it right into your house, get some free natural gas, do.
I mean, now we're thinking.
You know how to get that underwater, right?
Yeah, I don't know if I can get the state of Michigan.
Yeah, they're never going to approve it.
You just got to do it.
You know, you're on an island.
Yeah, you're making do.
Haven't you ever watched Castaway?
I got to do whatever the hell he wanted to.
Yeah.
He's on an island.
Yeah, that is true.
They didn't even let him talk to a volleyball.
Yeah.
Make sure you bring sports equipment just in case there's a big storm.
Oh, yeah.
I guess I'll make sure I bring the ice skates with me unless if I have a sore tooth or something.
There you go.
Yeah.
Smart.
Now he's thinking like a prepper.
That's the Yupor.
wanted to hear call in. Are you going to dig a bunker? No, unfortunately, any dirt work is
out of the question because it's pretty much solid rock. Okay. Well, hey, you know,
you're one jackhammer away from a bunker, though, my guy. I got plenty of equipment. I guess I
could bring that across. Yeah. You know what? You build this yourself. Put a boring machine on
the ferry and start drilling. Now, that's not boring.
That's not boring at all.
No.
No, I think, holy.
Sorry.
Charlie Barrens.
Charlie Barrens.
Charlie Robert Barron.
Charlie Robert Barron.
Chuck Bob Barron's.
Are you kidding me?
What was your confirmation name?
What was your confirmation name?
Look.
Rook. Luke. Luke Barrens. How dare you? That's staying in the episode. That's not going to it later. We can't. I can't right now. Sorry. There's nothing to do.
Okay. Some happened at the bar. Oh, my God. Charlie.
You got to explain what happens.
I'll do later.
I'll do later.
No, because they might be in here.
Say it real well.
All right.
So,
Charlie's 12 years old.
He,
there was a couple of nice gals
that just got out of their car.
No, one gal,
one fella, dude.
One gal one fella.
I think it was two gals.
I mean, Charlie,
what color shirt was she wearing?
but it was what was what was the color of her car purple shirt Charlie it was just it was
Charlie got distracted by a couple of bazookas outside is what happened and I've never seen anything
there's only two things in this world I've found that stops Charlie Barron did his tracks one
seeing a red red breasted McGarion what it was yeah Morganzer and two
a couple of bazookas.
And that was entirely.
It was,
it was, it was more of,
it was more of,
I just term wasn't expecting
to see it,
but I was like,
it's a little chilly outside.
I was just,
and there's nothing wrong with it.
It's just,
it took me by surprise.
And it's good,
it's good.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
And, you know,
but I'm not trying to be rude or anything.
It's just,
you know,
that was,
anyway,
so let's talk.
about the UP a little bit more miles oh my gosh sorry about that we got we got to we got to
we got a tight no it was sorry about that it was nothing like Larry Charlie I mean you got a you get
it Larry oh I got it yeah no it was nothing like this is like um it it you know it's not somebody that
you know, you would be, you know, I'm just going to dig myself deeper.
Yeah, I'll transition here, Charlie.
Okay.
Question about welding.
One, how rich are you?
Two, do you have a good sun tan?
Because I learned over the weekend from my buddy who welds is that you get sunburnt from
welding.
And I, again, I don't know anything about welding.
I'd love to learn.
But is that, I mean, I didn't know you get sunburned from welding.
Oh yeah. Yeah, if you're not wearing a long sleeve shirt or or if you're wearing shorts or something, you can easily get sunburn. Mind you're working with power that's, I mean, the arc rays and the heat's stronger than what the sun puts out. That's crazy.
So, I mean, my neck is generally quite burnt up on the sides just from the exposure to the arc.
Will sunscreen prevent that?
I mean that for a short term, but when you're doing it all day long like I am, it's not going to work.
And then you constantly have the dust and the grit and the sand.
So you're constantly in sweat.
You'd just be, you'd be making mud on the side of your neck by the end of the afternoon.
Is there any like protective lead hood?
You know, like you got the hood with the neck thing, like that you get at the dentist
off so you can toss over there.
Well, we're not working with that, that much radiation that I need lead for it.
He's not doing x-rays.
He's getting sunburned, though, you know.
I mean, and he's saying the sunscreen isn't doing it, you know.
I mean, I work around x-rays because a lot of my welds are x-rayed before they go into service.
Okay.
So what, are you, are you pretty well off?
You know, does the stereotype hold up that?
Well, there's just rolling in the dough.
He bought a place on an island, Miles.
That is true.
Well, we do pretty well, but it comes with its own share of stress and everything.
Yeah, he's got some burnt neck, Miles.
He's earned that money, you know?
Okay.
Stereotypes do exist for a reason, so.
Oh, God.
Do you hear all you said that?
He said that with some BDE.
Yeah.
He's, he's just.
some his bank account is hung miles i know i got it um so what do you do we talk about what you're
going to do with land you're going to hunt and stuff or what what's the plan with the five acres
it's mostly going to be just to go relax that across the the street for my property is a few
hundred acres of state land oh there would be they're in the deer hunting on the island is
pretty amazing. So I'll
try to make some time
to get up there probably during both season.
How did the deer get there?
They swam.
Actually? Yeah. They'll swim
that far? From the tour
village miles over to
the west side of
Drummond Island. I mean, that's
only like half a mile. They'll swim
a half a mile. Well, they go to that little
island, frying pan island.
Okay. And they take
a rest there. They're island hopping. Yeah. And
And they jump into Lake Huron and they go over to Jones Island.
And that's got a long history, doesn't it, Larry, Jones Island?
I'm sure it does.
Yeah, it does, actually.
I think my brother was telling me about Jones Island.
And then they jump right into that little cove of Lake Huron and they get on East Crabb Point Road.
And then they're pretty gosh darn near coastal area's house at that point.
and the in between drum and do you're right i'm sorry i'm sorry that that stays open but the other side
towards canada on the east side that has a tendency of freezing over so i'm sure they can walk across
yeah in which case they walk across but i was getting the more adventurous i was getting the larry
deer out there they're like i see this cliff let me jump off it so i mean you got five acres of land
on an island with a prefab omish cabin on oh not you're not playing
planning on hunting because you got the state land.
What is a guy do with five acres where he doesn't have to keep it nice for hunting land?
Are you going to start like just blowing shit up with Tannerite and stuff like that or what's the plan?
I don't know if I'll go to the that far with blowing stuff up.
But it's just going to be a nice relaxing spot to when I do get a break, go up and hang out at.
And there's lots of, you know, off-roading trails and hiking trails.
And it's known as one of the, maybe I'll get into bird watching.
It's known as one of the better places for that.
Hell yeah, dude.
Hell yeah.
This island, why are moon, why do more people not know about it?
If it's got that good of hunting, that good of bird watching.
Sounds like you need to get.
Because a lot of people don't call it through a podcast to talk about it.
Now it's, okay.
Now it's screwed.
now we screwed the pooch we let it out we got to go back and bleep out the name of this island
sorry jared um it well it's it's not an easy thing to get to is sorry the thing you got a ferry to it
it's not like you just pack it up in three hours you're at your cabin you got to drive well
he's in travers city so that's not too far of a snort you know but um but still a hike i mean from
Trevor City what we're still talking like two hours to sue st. Marie is that right yeah well I'm
working in travers but I live in Gaylord oh that's right you're in gay I'm only I think it's just
shy of two hours to get to it god that's a great dude that is it's a pretty easy drive that's great
yeah and could you take your own boat over there if you parked on like a little marina
yeah there's multiple marinas I'd have to get a boat first
but I could if need be.
Hey, you're, you're smart to start with the actual household.
I think Gordon Ramsey would appreciate that or Dave Ramsey, whatever.
Gordon Rams.
You know, Charlie's still flustered from Bazooka 1 and Buzuka 2.
It was just, it was a funny thing as more than anything.
It wasn't like, I was like, oh my gosh, I want it.
It was, oh my gosh, what's going on?
You know.
It's just, you're almost 40 years old, dude.
We're cutting this out of the episode.
No, you're not.
No, we are not.
Yeah, we are.
No, we are not.
Anyway, let's get back to Larry over here.
Well, I think you got a good spot, Larry.
So I guess after all that talk, what do you think?
You think you should build it yourself or are you going to get the prefab Amish building?
I think I'll probably end up going with just the prefabbed.
Amish cabin.
You got welder pockets.
You got cash.
You got.
You got that arc cash.
You got that.
You got that J.B.
Weld money.
Just why are you doing it?
Just fuck build a
mansion.
Yeah.
I don't.
I don't think I need any.
thing that excraviant.
Hopefully,
hopefully maybe when I,
probably another 20 years,
I'm hoping to maybe buy something bigger there and just retire there.
You got a wife?
You got kids?
I got a wife.
Nice.
Was she stoked when you bought this?
Or was she like,
what'd you do?
Oh, no, we had,
this had been in the work for a while.
We had saved up and decided this is where we were going to get just a,
little spot to build on and then maybe later on in life like i said by a little more property
closer to where and closer towards where the power is in town and build something
or buy something there that's awesome dude we're really happy for you um thank you how you how are you
going to get water over there what's going to be your tactic with the rocky ground uh i'm
waiting to figure that out.
A friend of mine that lives on the island,
he is going to have his water well drilled this year.
God.
And I'm interested to see how that goes for him,
like how deep it's going to be or how much it's going to cost.
It's going to cost a lot.
But, you know, maybe you can borrow some of heavy equipment,
do that yourself.
Yeah, I used to work on oil rigs.
Oh, I do it.
I know my way around it's got that oil rig.
money too. That's where I got my start was in the oil field. Let's go. I mean, for a guy who
gets injured by sand, you've had some dangerous professionals. And you chose a dangerous island,
dude. Don't fall on that thing. It's all rock. You couldn't handle the dunes. How are you going to
handle Rock Island? Well, I'll just have to take it day by day and see how it goes.
Okay. I make sure your crocs are in sport mode up there. Okay.
you like that one miles i got him with that one all right well we appreciate calling in man
this great well i appreciate being able to talk to you guys i hope you guys have a good day yeah you
too yeah and uh watch out for bazookas up there i'll keep my eyes peeled all right okay
miles we're cutting that out yeah we are no we're not do that was so funny because it was just
such a natural male reaction.
You know what I mean?
It happened so fast that there's like,
there was no, it was just like,
Charlie is a,
is a male human being.
But, but I wasn't.
And it was just a natural, I mean,
I was able to withhold myself.
But,
but it was just, you know, it's like when you're at
the doctor and they hit you in the knee
and your leg pops up, you know?
Yeah, but I wasn't like,
Like the person-
You're a guy with testosterone.
The person we're talking about was like 60.
So it's not like I was...
What does that matter?
You're like not that far off.
It's like in your age group.
I know, but I'm not saying that I was...
Kind of almost in the same generation as that woman.
I'm just saying.
If you did the math, what does it?
Divide your age by two and add seven.
You are in the range for her.
Oh, for sure, Miles.
I'm out of the range, but you're in the range.
Now give it time, Miles.
Remember you when you were making fun of me for being 30?
How old is your bitch ass now, huh?
33.
Yeah.
You have to be careful.
This is the age Jesus died.
That is true.
But you did come back to life, so I'm feeling pretty good.
I've been actually taking more risks this year driving behind the wheel.
You're like, this is the lucky year to come back to life.
I've been driving fast and taking chances.
That's good.
That's good.
You got a chance.
it take it well you got a chance you all right is that it jared guys thanks for tune in to another
