All right, folks, welcome to the bellied up podcast.
I'm sitting here with my buddy Miles.
Hello, Charlie.
Miles, where are we today?
We are at the American Legion here in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Post 21.
Post 21.
That's a great, that's a great post number, especially in the state of Minnesota because you got Kevin Garnett.
Oh, yeah.
No, I was, I was thinking that exact same thing.
You were.
Totally.
I'm all about the KG.
What I like about the American Legion here in Moorhead is they have bingo three and a half nights a week.
Dude, I love this place.
Every fact they hear about this place makes me love it even more.
First of all, three and a half is so it's, it's what did he say?
It was Tuesday.
Three days a week and then on Saturday, it's every other.
Every other.
And you got a whole bingo board up here.
Like this is, this bingo board is bigger than the score.
score box at my grade high school gym.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm sure.
I think it is.
I mean, look at how big that is.
It is.
It's very big.
It's nice.
Not every place gets a bingo scoreboard, dude.
A light up bingo scoreboard.
They hung all the events for the month in the rafters like a championship game or two, which I love.
And Charlie, we just missed it.
I'm so bombed.
Sunday they had the Julie Lee dance party and Julie Lee is a polka band and I tell you what, Charlie,
I'm gutted for you because I know you like to cut a rug to some poker music.
Miles, you know I've pulled my calf doing the polka. That's a true story. Yeah. I mean,
what a lineup of events. Uh, yeah, September 15th, we unfortunately, we also just, no, is that today?
What's today? The 60s guys, they're playing.
and oldies from 60s and 70s.
We had the retirees lunch.
The 9-11 5K, great cause.
A celebration of life.
Ronald,
rest in peace.
These are past events, by the way.
Let's look to the future for a second.
We got the Saturday.
Oh, we got karaoke night.
American Crystal retirees luncheon.
Yep.
I said that one.
But you got national P-O-W, M-I-A.
But the karaoke nights on September 18 folks, that's, I mean, and there's bingo.
Bingo goes right into karaoke.
Like, it just, it's a feeder.
It's like the river just feeding it to win.
The wolf river feeding right into Lake Winnebago right there.
I don't think enough people are doing combo bingo karaoke nights.
No, and it's, that's a tragedy.
And that's what's wrong with this country, Miles.
and I'm glad that BFW Post 21 is holding it strong.
I think the highlight coming up.
There's a few here, Charlie.
The Pinole tournament?
American Legion.
Sorry,
I said BFW.
I always,
that's my bad.
We can't sit here.
And did you hear the hesitation as soon as it came out of my mouth?
I was like,
wait,
did I just say that?
I screwed up.
You got too many tabs open in your brain,
Charlotte.
Yeah,
shut some down.
That's what I'm going through right now.
You got a lot of tabs open in your brain?
Yeah.
It's,
you know how like,
if you got your browser.
Oh, I get the analogy.
No, I mean, I'm trying to explain how bad it is for me right now.
You know how like at the top it says like you can see like Facebook.com and, you know, all the other websites.
Yeah.
I can't tell you would have been specific with that if you could have just.
I have so many tabs open in my brain right now that you can't even see Facebook.com.
They're all squished together and you could just see like.
the logo of whatever website
you can't even get an F. No.
Wow. Okay. And there's
so many tabs that you can scroll back and
forth on the tab section. Oh yeah.
They're like P with like orange
behind them. Yeah, exactly.
God, fuck, what's P. with
oh, wait, that one I know.
Is that Pinterest?
Yeah. That's, honey, that's
Pinterest. Oh.
Well, Miles,
Black and orange into the pee.
That's so weird.
Let's talk.
Let's talk to my house now.
Yeah, you don't want to open up my incognito drops.
Even more tabs open.
Let's talk.
Penknuckle tournament, Charlie.
You're got to be dry rubbing me, really.
No, dry rub night is later in the month.
Okay.
Peanoke.
There's steak night, one of the nights.
steak night tonight
well we got to stay i think
oh yeah what i love about
american legion
number post 21
is in the backyard
they got horseshoes you don't often see that
no a lot of people have have given up horseshoes
for bags because you know few too many kids took a horseshoe to the head
but not here
not here no you know that actually brings up a good point
Charlie, as a kid, did you ever take a horseshoe to the head?
Not the head, but maybe.
I could have swore you taking one to the head.
No, I definitely have been hit with a horseshoe.
Once on accident, a couple times on purpose.
You know, you grow up with brothers, horseshoe is a great weapon.
My brother, Billy, he had these blue horseshoe set.
And, um, but for what?
Oh, like for playing horseshoes.
yeah we didn't have horses yeah i was gonna say yeah i know this is that would have had if you if you if your
family had horses i had been like oh my god your childhood was just too much no it was a lot i mean
but uh great fun you know and occasionally yeah you know you can't you got to take the good with
bad uh the good news is billy gets a horseshoe set for uh his birthday one year and we're you know
unfortunately, you know, sometimes you got to take a horseshoe.
It's the closest thing around when we're searching for weapons.
Okay, so you've got a horseshoe thrown at you.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, sure.
By my brothers.
My brothers were, and I was part of that too.
You used to set your nieces and nephews on the mantle.
No, not nieces and nephews.
Your brothers say your brothers.
My siblings, my siblings.
And I've grown out of that.
That is actually very funny, Charlie, what you just did right there.
Number one, you had to clarify, it was your brothers that threw a horseshoe at you because
if your dad throws a horseshoe at you, that's bad.
That's not good.
But your brother is fine.
If you do pranks to your nieces and nephew like that, that's bad.
That's bad.
But if you can pretty much get away with anything other than murder with your siblings and it's
socially acceptable.
It is because, you know,
you know, that's the place where you got to get, first of all, I'm not going to go down this
route.
But it's nice to get a little wrestling in and learn out of fight in a safe area.
You know your brother's going to take mercy on you, 99% of the time.
Like, he's not going to finish you off, but he's going to let you know that you shouldn't
have done that.
Right.
And being the second brother, you know, I had to let.
Let some people know.
I'd let some people know, you know.
You got to let some people know who's the prince around here.
Well, I got it both ways.
My brother, Andy, could kick my ass for a long time.
And unfortunately, Billy, he didn't quite get there, you know.
But, you know, that's how it goes.
Anyway, I don't know what we're talking about.
But we're here.
Your childhood, Charlie.
We're here, Miles.
You got any good, I love hearing about your childhood.
You know, there was this one time I was thinking, Miles.
I was out with my dad.
Okay.
I'm maybe seven.
seven years old.
Yep.
And I'm fishing with a standard slip-bobber situation.
I've never told anyone this.
So this is about to come out right here on the belly-up podcast.
I'm fishing with a standard slip-bobber.
My dad, he's pulling in a daredevil.
Okay.
And that daredevil put some tension on the line.
He goes, Charlie.
And I go, yeah?
He goes, you got one.
And he hands me the pole.
and I bring up my very first Northern Pike.
Yep.
Yep.
We get back to the dock.
And my mom goes, did you catch anything?
And I go, we got a Northern Pike.
And my mom goes, who caught it?
My dad goes, Charlie did?
And I was like, did I?
And up until this moment right now, that has been the story.
that I caught that northern pike,
but my dad hooked it.
And that's how my dad was teaching me a very important lesson.
As a fisherman, you lie.
Okay.
You know, isn't that nice?
I mean, usually people lie and say they caught it even though they didn't,
which is kind of what you've been doing your whole life.
Yeah.
But it's nice.
It's nice to know that lying, yes, it's not good to lie unless you're a fisherman.
You know, and that's what that you need, you need to learn that lesson that, hey, if you're, if you're, uh, you can stretch the truth.
I mean, you can't completely lie because people will know, you know, but, uh, yeah, but weights in the fish.
Waits in the fish. That's cheating. That's different. Cheating is different than lying. Okay. If you're out there,
freaking fishing, fish and wall eyes and you're putting extra filets. Do you know they did that?
they would fillet wallets
and they would shove fillets
inside those wallies to give them extra weight.
They were just putting weights in them.
And extra fillets, though.
That is smart.
Why?
The extra fillets?
Well, yeah.
What do you mean?
People are going to find that out.
I know, but if you felt the fish,
you wouldn't be like, oh my God, there's a lead weight in here.
That's what's smart.
Yeah, yeah.
It's the next iteration of cheating,
which we can appreciate, but also frown
upon. That's frowned upon, yeah.
I don't even think it's frowned upon. I think
it's scolded upon. Well,
we know what it is because
they got wait some fish. I
thought those guys were going to die.
I thought they were going to die.
That was mob mentality. That was
insane. That's awesome.
Oh, my God. I mean, they got it
coming, you know? They had it
coming, yeah. I think they are going to
jail.
They should. I think, oh,
they absolutely should. Because it wasn't it that they
like had done this at many
tournaments and basically like came away with like over a hundred thousand dollars and
winnings yeah we're talking fraud level cheating there i don't you know on these fishing
tournaments man there's there's a lot of i don't know that i like all the incentive i mean so here's
here's okay what do we expect you are taking a group of people who you said what did you just say about
fisherman was the lesson you had to learn about being a fisherman as a kid.
What was it?
It's okay to lie.
It's okay to lie.
As a fisherman.
So we're taking a group of people who all believe that.
And then having a tournament together, what did we expect?
It's kind of true.
It's like if I put Charlie's beer on the corner of the thing and he knocks it over,
that's my fault, not your fault.
Yeah, or, or.
well so what do we do with this information miles do we do we have to ban all fishing tournaments
knowing that there can be no truthful not just a funny observation well i just wanted to take your
observation to the next level it's it's like the concept for love island you know it's like they
just take the horniest people yeah who have the biggest egos and put them on an island and tell them to find
love.
Yeah.
I guess a better, yeah.
No, that's a pretty good analogy.
I mean, I don't know.
I think they got a...
You're like, what?
They didn't make it?
You know what they need?
You know what they need?
We need Binox boats out there on the fishing tournaments.
Benox boats.
Just guys out there with some nice glass.
Just keeping an eye on you.
Charlie, that actually, you know,
I don't know if you should enter tournaments
because I've seen your fish before.
Oh.
But this would be a great job for you at the tournament.
Oh, excuse me.
Hey, neither of us should be in a fishing tournament.
Although, dude, we together had an incredible fishing experience.
Yes, we did.
With Bobber Bass.
We'll have that forever.
We will always have Bobber Bass, Miles.
we might not be the best in the bunch
but we can get ourselves some snakes
and some bass too
some blue gill
some crappies
no one can put fish in danger like you
and I can
mostly you that was your fault
well it was Jake's fault
for not tying it right
but we rescued the fish
God that was a great moment
one of the top fishing experiences
of all time
in the moment it was the best fishing experience
of all time
with the moment of retrospect it's up there top three it's the best night of your life in the last
seven years you said did i say that that's what you said you said this is the best night of my life
in the last seven years coming coming off a high dude i was that was so much fun you also may
have been a little yeah jake there was a
reason Jake tied the worst knot ever.
I don't even know if he did a cinch knot on that.
I think he just did a over under a round and throat.
I don't even know.
I think he just went like looped it around and just pulled the night.
Oh, man.
Well, Charlie, we're here at the American Legion.
Post 21.
Close your tabs.
I got, I got tabs.
What tabs are open?
I just open a new tab with the power.
ball machine.
You don't see that a lot in bars.
Have you seen that in bars?
No, I haven't.
Playing the power ball at the bar.
I haven't seen that.
So we can just go play scratchers.
We should do that.
Should we get some?
It's not very often that you can play scratchers at the bar.
No.
We should do that today at some point.
Well, let's do that.
Let's take some callers.
We'll do that.
Before we take some callers, are there any tabs you want to talk over with me that we can
close them together?
so you can be more in the moment.
Here, are you good?
Are you just going to be running with tabs?
I think I'm good.
This has helped close some tabs down.
Okay.
Or at least just minimize the browser so they're out of sight, out of mind.
That's good.
That's good.
Yeah.
We at least cleared off your desktop of the screenshots.
Yeah.
No, now I just, yeah, I just have all of these screenshots on my desktop.
So the caller shouldn't be able to group them and we should be good.
Okay, got it.
Let's do it.
Do I unplug your tour quick?
Oh, yeah.
Thanks for doing that.
Jared.
Folks, I'm coming to town.
Am I coming to Fargo?
When's this coming out?
Charlie, we come around the mountain.
When he comes, he'll be coming around the mountain when he comes.
He'll be coming around the mountain.
Isn't that really something?
Because he's in Fargo and there is no mountain.
Yeah, Fargo.
Great.
And I went this week
This week
And by the way
If there's any tickets left folks
Go buy them
Go buy them
Fargo
I'm here often
I love it
And I will say this
Last night
And I did my favorite thing
I did my favorite thing
I did in Fargo
I went for a walk
Slash run
Along the river
It's beautiful
And a kid caught
A pulled up
A fish
Right as I was running
Catfish
I looked like a small cat
Yeah
almost like do you have bullheads here?
Yeah.
Might have been a bullhead.
Anyways, we'll see you guys soon.
Oh, geez, the leaves, miles, they're changing.
That means every scenic road in the Midwest is now a fall color tour day.
Incredibly.
You get what I'm saying.
Whether that road, though, agrees to participate or not, that's the real question.
You got people driving 20 on.
The limit?
Passengers taking picks through the windshield.
And somebody's stopping near the top of a hill because one tree is really giving her more than the others.
Really giving more than the others.
That's what the kids say these days.
Oh, it's giving.
It's giving.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But the way this was anyways.
Looking at the leaves, it's great.
Right, Miles?
Oh, God, yeah.
But looking at the leaves while you're supposed to be watching traffic,
that's how someone misses a stop sign, drifts over the center line,
rear ends the car behind them.
You do the math on that.
If another,
rear ends the car behind them.
Hey, Miles.
Some creative people can figure it out.
If another driver turns your nice little leap-looking drive into an actual axi,
make sure you call Nicolay Law 1855,
Nikolai.
Hello, Bob, you got Miles and Charlie from the Bellied Up podcast.
How you doing today?
I'm good, fellas.
How are you?
Doing good.
Bob, Bob, Bob.
This is indeed.
Where are you guys today?
Well, we're at the American Legion Post 21 in Moorhead, Minnesota there, Bob.
You really like saying my name or something, Charlie?
Well, Charlie's middle name is Bob.
Did you know that?
I'm Chuck Bob.
I think your dad's a Bob, right?
My grandpa.
Grandpa, my dad is a Bob, so yes, I'm a junior.
But, yeah, it's a great name.
Bobby Jr.
I mean, I don't like being called Bobby Miles,
but if you want to start our relationship that way, I guess that's...
Bobby Jr., you sound like a Kennedy.
Oh, God, no.
I don't want to get political, but nothing like that guy.
Good Lord.
Rob to a good start, Bob.
Which,
which Kennedy do you think we're talking about?
The current
secretary of health and whatever.
For a second there,
I was thinking something against JFK,
like a real big thing.
Bobby Kennedy Jr.
I know, I know,
whatever his name is.
Yeah, I get it.
I like most of the Kennedys except for that,
that one, Bobby Jr.
Yeah.
Well, and we're not a politics podcast.
So we'll move on from that.
We'll leave it there.
But what's on your mind, Bob?
Well, first of all, I'm calling from O'Clair, Wisconsin.
And I don't know if you guys have done the show from here, but I hope at some point you do.
I've been there.
I've done a couple shows there.
And Miles, that would be a great spot for us to do a bellied up live.
It's actually like almost a perfect meet in the middle for us.
Because going to Minneapolis is like a little bit further drive for you.
So, O'Clair is much, it's closer to halfway for Charlie and I.
Yeah, we should do that.
Also, if I can recommend lacrosse, I went to college in lacrosse and lacrosse is so many great bars.
I mean, you guys, again, Charlie, I'm sure you've been there.
But yeah, across bars.
Oh, the bar scene is fantastic.
You guys could have a blast.
More bars per capita than anywhere else in the world.
That's right.
That's right.
England Cross.
Oh, yeah.
Some say it's Appleton, but to that I say, well, I don't know.
No.
I didn't do the, I didn't do it.
So I found.
I'm not,
I'm not checking the math, but, you know,
and I'm not here to start fights or,
or create division in these divided times.
We don't want to do that.
We already started in on the Kennedy, the political stuff.
Yeah.
That's true.
We don't want to go further down the political road.
So, no, we'll just.
used to work in politics, but I don't anymore. Okay, I got to know about that. What do you,
like, what did you do? Were you like getting people coffees or were you running campaigns?
I kind of both, I guess, but I started out working on campaigns. I was, I guess he'd call it a field
organizer in a number of different campaigns. I also worked in the Wisconsin State Capitol for a couple
of stance for you added up probably seven and a half years total so okay um yeah what do you do now then
i am an executive recruiter a head hunter so completely different career than i had in politics but yeah
basically uh companies hire my company to find them uh executive level talent and i go out and i find
those people so what's the uh most obscure job you've had to head hunt for
Oh, Miles.
Because Jared,
Jared was kind of head hunted here in Fargo.
He thought about taking position.
I think he's still mulling it over.
But there was a part-time night janitor at an adult shop here in Fargo that he had his eye on.
Jared, you were going to leave us for an adult toy store, dude?
Yep, part-time job at the local sex shop.
What's the name of it?
It starts with an R. It's called Romantics.
Romantics? You were going to be cleaning up at Romantics?
Does it end it with an X?
It does.
Yes, dude.
Yes.
Only thing would make it better if it was three X's at the end.
Then, you know, there'd be huge miss by them.
I work there.
I would tell them to change it.
Maybe Jared.
Maybe you just take that part-time job and think about how much we could learn on this podcast if you did it.
Just for a week.
Yeah, we can do a YouTube video where it's like,
We sent an undercover person to do a janitor job at a sex shop.
Yeah, very dirty jobs.
The dirtiest job.
I wonder what kind of messes are made there.
I mean, Charlie.
Can I hang up?
No, no.
I'm just saying, like, it's not like they have, like, a theater there.
You know?
I'm guarantee they have some form of theater.
It's not probably a traditional theater you're thinking of.
Well, no.
But it probably is a black couch in a room.
with a TV and a DVD player.
Really?
Gotta be.
Yeah.
I've heard,
allegedly,
I've heard things about it.
Odd.
Yeah.
Anyways.
Sorry,
Bob.
So what's the most obscure job
you've ever had haunted for?
I'm so distracted by that conversation.
I'm trying to get my thoughts back in order.
Hang up.
That is a first.
We've never had that happen on this podcast.
No one's hung up yet.
Well,
Well, people have hung up, but not on purpose.
And no one's just ever even asked for permission.
Very Midwest of them.
Very polite.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Boy, I'm trying to think of obscure.
I mean, I've done some, I'm trying to be vague.
So I don't, like, reveal any information.
But I did a role.
I've done a couple of government roles.
I'll say that much.
And those are always interesting,
because it's a completely different sort of client you're dealing with.
Not only are you dealing with the hiring people, but the public.
So there was one search in particular that was a government role in Texas and one of the largest counties and cities in Texas and that we were subject to being included on public meetings.
So somewhere online, there's video of me.
sitting in a Zoom call,
not saying much, but still sitting there
because again, it's open to public meetings.
So that was pretty interesting.
But most of them are just,
you know, your leadership type role,
C levels,
director level, VPs,
and it's for,
we're pretty industry agnostic.
So anything for manufacturing,
finance, tech,
nonprofit, etc.
So I know that's probably not a very exciting answer.
No, I feel like head hunting in Texas
is actually easy.
if the person shows up to the interview in a suit with cowboy boots a belt buckle and a cowboy hat on and a bolot tie you're tired
I feel like every executive in there looks like that in Texas at least that's what I think
unfortunately my video or my interviews were all via a video so I couldn't see what kind of boots they have
what kind of head what kind of head hunter are you in I mean I know well I work remotely it's great
Did it work?
Did you ask, next time you do it, you ask him to get that Zoom cam on those boots and prove something.
Yeah, I feel like if you're if you're headhunted in Texas, you just got to look for people that look like Doug Dimidome of the Dimmesdale Dimidome.
I don't know what that is, but you.
You and Charlie are probably too old for that reference.
I don't know how, Miles, how do you know how first of all, you call me Bobby to start with it?
Now you're, you're assuming I'm too old.
How old do you think I am?
don't know who Doug Dimidon.
You don't know who Doug Dimmodome of the Dimsdale Dimitome.
Well, I know.
But that could be non-related to my age.
Well, this is a fun game.
I'm going to guess your age.
Can we do that?
By the voice.
Guessing the age by the voice.
I'm going to guess.
I'm going to guess you're 43 years old.
Okay.
Is Charlie going to guess?
Um, I mean, look, Bob.
Just guess the number.
Charlie. Bob, you got a 45-year-old's voice.
And maybe it's the authority that it's coming with. But yeah, somewhere around there.
I mean, he worked in politics for seven and a half years.
He's talking like he definitely did that in his 20s.
That, Bob, or you're talking like you enjoyed a casual cigarette break.
And then you sound like you enjoy a casual cigarette break and you put cologne on before you come back inside.
I don't, but thanks, I guess.
But no, I'm 46, so Charlie was closer.
All right.
Yeah, you're definitely too old for Doug Dimondome, owner of the Dimmesdale Dimitome.
Can you explain that, Miles, for the older folks, just so we know what you're talking about?
Do you know the show fairly odd parents?
No.
I've heard of it.
Yeah, he's a character in that.
He owns the Dim'sdale Dimidome.
Was that on Nickelodeon?
Yeah.
Okay.
nice I still remember you can't do that on television and those kind of shows in Nickelodeon
I remember hey dude hey dude yeah I don't remember hey dude I remember all that original all that
was great yeah Charlie you remember the hey dude song hey wait wait uh oh started up for me it's a little
wild and a little strange when you make your home out on the range I'm not doing anymore
But I remember, hey, dude.
Yeah.
Right.
That's right.
Yeah.
That's right.
Were you guys in the era of the show, Doug?
Do do.
Dude.
Doug was a little.
Do do the boo.
I was probably watching more MTV at that point.
Oh, badass.
I am jealous of guys here at.
You went to college?
I did.
Yep.
You did.
Lacrosse.
He said that.
Yeah, you did.
What years?
you go to college.
Well, you can do math, Miles.
I just, it's just easier if he says it.
98 to, I graduated in 2002.
Oh, dude, you went to college than like the best time ever to go.
Yeah, that was peak humanity right there.
It's just, just, no cell phones.
No cell phones.
Oh, I just.
It was so.
No cell phones.
Computers were a luxury.
I remember the first time my roommate got the original.
original Xbox and we would play Halo, but you had to run the phone line into your computer
to try to play online.
It was great.
It was just the best time.
Just the best time to go to college.
Napster.
It was like peak party culture, you know, like Hollister pop collars and shit.
I was a little later, but.
I was on a collar popper miles.
But it was around that era, though, right?
Oh, yeah.
What was your favorite band?
Who were you ripping?
the most off Napster.
Beastie Boys or Tribe Cult Quest.
Sublime. Nice, sublime.
Nice.
Sublime. I was backstage
for the Beastie Boys one time
when I was a PA.
Nice. What did you find out about
the Beastie Boys? Just want to do a flex.
I,
you know, that they were really cool.
I don't know. I was like so excited
to be there. I couldn't even like
comprehend what they were saying.
You know?
I saw them play at the Target Center in the Hello Nasty Tour.
And after the show, I was talking to like, we tried to see them.
And we saw them get into their bus, but I was talking to some roadie guy.
And he went to the back and he got me a piece of paper with like black duct tape on it.
And it had shoe prints all over it.
And it was the set list that had been on the stage with them.
Oh, that's cool.
I've got that somewhere hidden, you know, secure somewhere.
But yeah, it was apparently taped down the stage and they had the rotating stage for that particular tour.
It was cool.
That's awesome, man.
Yeah.
Well, Bob, you must have called in.
Well, hold on.
I got a question about the head hunting here, Charlie.
Oh, okay.
All right.
So you are head hunting.
Yeah.
We're going to do a reverse head hunt.
You have a head.
You now need to hunt for a company, okay?
Or an industry.
you have Charlie and I's head here.
You're like, all right, these two guys are looking for a job.
Yeah.
Where, really?
Where are you going to, what company are you going to be trying to hook Charlie and I up with?
You can go, we can be a package deal.
Actually, let's go.
We'll do a package.
We'll do the stepbrothers.
Okay.
Yeah.
We interview as a package deal.
Yeah.
Sure.
So, however you want to.
One salary, like on the, it's always.
in Philadelphia when they apply for jobs and they share the salary?
Sure. Yeah.
Okay.
And that actually works out because a lot of times, like I was actually late today and
Charlie's late a lot of times.
So one of us is going to be on time.
One of us is going to be at least 10 minutes late.
And the other will only be five minutes late.
So are you guys driving to work together?
Is it like you live together?
You come to work together.
No, sometimes.
Maybe sometimes.
Yeah.
So what, like, company or industry are you looking for?
We don't care.
Either one.
Whatever you think we'd be given for.
We are ready and willing to work.
I think whatever, I think, first of all, wherever you guys work, you can't be hybrid or remote.
You guys need to be there on site.
We're boots on the ground guys.
Boots on the ground.
But I think we could be doing our podcast virtually, Charlie.
But we're boots on the ground guys.
We know that.
We don't want to do it virtually.
No, no.
But I think that you guys need to be in a place where there's like a lot of open cubicles and maybe two or three water coolers.
Because I think that you're going to be the types of guys who are going to walk around and bust balls.
Yeah, we're going to be chit-chat.
Do companies hire ballbusters?
Like, is that, is there companies that will just hire someone to do that?
I'll keep you posted if I find any.
But maybe romantic.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
But no, I see something like that.
Again, I don't know what industry.
I just got that. Yeah.
All right.
So he basically said we're not going to position.
So he basically said we're personality hires.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
Like the exact opposite of what he's looking for as a head hunter.
These guys will need to be managed by someone.
These guys.
I mean, they are not self-starters.
Respectfully, no.
I think you guys are morale guys.
You know, where you're walking around.
You're organizing the fantasy football and the chili contest and all that crap.
And you need that guy.
You want retention.
Oh, yeah.
You want retention?
You better get us in there.
We'll retain.
Yeah, when a company talks about benefits, you guys are the part of the benefit package.
You know, you guys are the, you make it fun.
I like that, actually.
Yeah.
But also don't objectify us either.
Yeah, we're more than just a package.
I wasn't
I wasn't referring to
No I'm neither mine
I'm just saying
I'm just saying
You know we're more than
You know
We're we're good at things too
I have good penmanship
And that's lost these days
Not a lot of people have good penmanship
You still do cursive
Oh yeah sometimes
Also I'm pretty sure we could probably get our notary license too
I think we're a notary
I've never notarized anybody.
I just wanted to do it and get the stamp.
Let's go.
If you ever need any, he notarized.
How long does it take?
What takes longer to become a notary or to become like someone who can marry people?
I've done that too.
I went online and I think.
I had a feeling you had.
Yeah, I did the online thing where you pay 25 bucks and you get approved to marry people.
do you have that hanging up in your office next to your notary license i have a card in my wallet
nice dude you know you never know i've done it twice there you go so jealous never done it
i want to get a married card or a marriage can i be the ordained minister at your next wedding
sure dude yeah i can't do a catholic anymore so yeah you never got it annulled you're still married
I, well, I don't think that's how it works.
What do you mean?
In the church's eye, you're still married.
Nah, they got over that.
I don't think that's how that works.
Give a time, Miles.
They'll come around.
As a former, a reformed Catholic, I can tell you, I don't think they've really modernized their views on divorce.
It just depends what you focus on, Bob.
Yeah.
We're buffet Catholic.
If you buy them a new sanctuary, Charlie, I'm sure you can get that thing.
Yeah.
Donate a wing.
Yeah.
I'll donate a few pews.
Donate a Virgin Mary statue outside and then you can get that thing annulled.
That was a that was a Sopranos episode, wasn't it?
Right.
That's right.
Paulie, I think, bought one for the church.
Yes, he did.
He did.
Oh, I love that show.
By the way, speaking of growing up Catholic, I have to say that ever since
I've been listening to your pod.
I've been listening for a while,
and I've kind of doing piecemeal.
I haven't gone like an order exactly.
But I,
because of you guys,
I now find myself singing on Eagles wings to myself.
Yes.
And I remember,
like,
some of the extended longer lyrics to the song.
I remember the guy's name that wrote it
was Michael Junkus because I,
I remember.
Is he still alive?
Because we need to get Junkish.
I googled him.
And I think he's still alive.
We need to get jonkis on the podcast.
Jared, can we see if we can follow him on Twitter and DM him?
Michael Junkus, dude.
I have, so.
We have to be the number one on Eagles Wings podcast in the world.
In the world.
We are doing more for religion than we are than Christian podcasts are.
Yeah.
According to this, he's still alive.
Is he on Twitter?
he's in Minneapolis he's a priest of the archdiocese of st. Paul in Minneapolis.
No kidding.
This is a start goes to start door knocking.
Oh, dude.
He's in Archdio priest.
In 2022, he retired from active ministry and teaching, but stated an intention to keep writing music.
That's on Wikipedia.
So let's go, dude.
We got a, we got a junkist.
What a great name, too.
Any controversies before we get in touch with him.
I mean, according to his Wikipedia page.
No. Well, if his Wikipedia is clean, that's as good as a doctor's note.
It says,
Jock has composed to him. I bet this is great podcasting and you're reading from Wikipedia.
Yeah, it's awesome.
Jack is composed to him.
He is best known for in Eagles Swings followed death of a friend's following in late 70s.
It has since been quoted by Joe Biden and covered by Lana Del Rey.
No kidding.
Lana Del Rey did a cover?
Dude, we got to play out this episode.
with Hulana Delray's cover of On Eagle Swings.
I can't wait to hear that.
What verse do you know that you want to sing it?
Oh, I, I'm not going to sing it, but I'll say it.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear.
And when I was a kid, I always thought it was, and salmon will bring you no fear.
But the snare of the fowler, I always thought was a cool phrase.
The snare of the fowler.
I imagine that someone who traps birds, right?
I guess.
Yeah, actually, dude, probably.
Yeah.
Google that.
Maybe someone who's throwing up one of those nets, right?
Yeah.
Well, these are all great questions for when we get jauncus on the podcast.
Oh, we got jauncus.
And then Charlie, we can also use a priest, right?
We can get a confessional out of that.
That would be great.
We could get them to meet us at a bar in St. Paul.
Yeah.
Or maybe we do our first bellied up inside.
his Catholic church.
Yeah.
Do you think we could get a special...
Where are you guys bellied up today?
The altar.
You heard of it?
What is that bar?
You're just drinking communion wine the whole time.
Oh, that, well, pre-blessed, it's just wine.
Correct.
And then we could be, maybe we can get some authentic unleavened bread.
Yeah.
Oh.
And pre-blessed, it's not sacrilegious, you Catholic.
out there, just so you know.
It's just bread at that point.
Just bread.
We're following it by the book.
Yeah.
You wouldn't just have like a stack of hosts between you and crush.
Well, we actually discussed this yesterday on one of the episodes that that is, it's almost like private equity got a hold of communion.
Because they used to do actual unleavened bread that you would eat.
eat real bread and now it's just
the wafer, private equity wafer
shit. It's like your favorite
restaurant getting bought
by private equity and all of a sudden
it's just a Cisco truck pulling up.
I wouldn't be
surprised if they buy the wafers
now from Cisco.
The Newman Center
at UW O'Clair when I was a kid, I remember
they had the real bread.
And me and a friend of mine asked
the priest after Mass one time
if we could get the recipe.
He was just like, no.
What?
Yeah.
That's kind of bull crap.
It would have made a great sandwich or something.
Miles used to make on Lovid bread in his school.
Miles was making the hosts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So anyways, now you didn't call in the headhunt for us or to talk about on
Eagles wings, but we're glad that that happened.
But what were you calling into chit chat about here, Bob?
I left several messages.
kind of forgot what exactly I called about, but I was writing down some ideas.
And there are a couple things I want to ask you.
Number one, and Charlie, I'm sure like me, you're excited about the brewers clinching the
Central last night.
Oh, God.
Isn't that awesome?
I mean, four in a row.
First time in the Central that's happened.
Now, I believe that the Milwaukee Brewers have the greatest logo.
Yes.
In sports.
Yes.
And I was wondering what you guys thought were.
some of the best sports logos or mascots in the Midwest.
This is a great question.
Is that, Miles, you're familiar with the Brewers logo, obviously.
Yeah.
It's like a mitt with a B and an M.
Yeah.
Correct.
I mean, genius.
And they tried switching it up for a bit.
They tried doing an MB for a while.
They tried just doing the Milwaukee Brewers,
but then they were like, you know what,
we got to go back to the classic.
And do you know, Bob,
the difference between the.
original M.B and the new MB?
It's more centered. I believe the ball has two
stitch lines as opposed and they're centered as opposed to the
original which had one kind of left to right. Left to right. And what that was
representing was a ball being pitched, I believe, or it was showing speed on
the ball. I think, but now that I say that, it's sitting in a mitt so that
doesn't make any sense at all.
So sometimes you get told things and you take them for truth until you say them out loud
again and then you're like, that can't be true.
But anyways, yes, that is the stitching on the ball is what's different.
So Miles, what do you think is one of the best logos?
Well, let's, what sport you want to go with first?
Oh, we'll dial you in.
Let's say football.
I do think that the Vikings logo is cool.
It's much cool.
cooler than the Packers logo.
No. Packers logo is just a letter.
Yeah.
Objectively, it's just a letter.
Well, what are they going to do?
Show a guy packing meat on the helmet miles.
I mean, they're just...
That'd be a good job for you guys.
I mean, just a steak as the logo would be kind of sweet.
That's not a bad idea.
A big T-bone steak as the logo.
The pack?
Are they the meat packers or are they packing all sorts?
They're packing cheese.
The Acme meat packing company.
Okay, meat packing.
Or they might have done cheese, but no, I think it was pretty much meat packing.
Okay.
Yeah.
So and the Vikings logo is cool.
A Viking is cool.
You think the Vikings is cooler than the lions, though?
I mean, the lions is regal, you know?
Also, why is Detroit the Lions?
Do we know that?
Like, there are no lions in Detroit?
With the tigers there first?
Yeah, they had the tigers, but well, they don't have tigers in Detroit either.
Would they have a big zoo in Detroit?
Why the hell are they the lions?
That is a good point.
Jared, would you mind?
And normally I'd be like, oh, maybe it's a mountain lion, but the logo is clearly just a regular safari lion.
It's straight out of the lion.
It looks like Mufasa.
Yeah.
We're getting another city to start with, though?
Like they were the Toledo Lions.
But the lions are not native to North America.
No, they're not.
And that's a fact, folks.
The Detroit Lions were named to compliment the city baseball's team, the Detroit Tigers.
Okay.
And to represent a fierce regal king of the jungle image.
Okay.
But what about the Tigers?
Like, why were they named the Tigers?
To compliment the Tigers.
So whoever named the tigers
Actually, you know, I'm a change
I think the Cleveland Browns are the best Midwest
That's such a great logo.
That I might say competes with the Packers right there.
What do you think?
The Detroit Tigers got their name as a tribute
to the Detroit Light Guard,
a famous local military unit that served bravely
in the Civil War and earned reputation as tigers.
Okay.
All right.
So there it is.
There it is.
Can't say anything about that now.
That's just...
Civil war ties.
Civil war ties.
I would like to point out that I did mention that the tigers were there first
and then in the context of the lions being named.
Oh, yeah.
After the tigers.
Good job, Bob.
I'm starting to think, Bob, that you're not headhunting all day.
You're just Googling stuff all day long.
I mean, the amount of...
I do like, I like useless trivia, yeah.
It's not useless.
There are trivia nights where you can win free beer.
Oh, I'm...
I'm...
I turn into a monster when I do trivia, like hyper-competitive, total, total asshole.
And then I snap back into being a semi-nice guy when I'm done.
Do you get upset at your teammates or who do you get people for cheating?
Who are you getting upset with playing trivia?
Myself, if I get one wrong.
Oh, I see.
Yeah, I'm that guy.
Okay, got it.
So you're probably really fun to golf with.
That's probably why I haven't golfed in like 10.
years because it's just it was too frustrating for me.
I wish I, I mean, I sometimes wish I could get out there, but it would just annoy me too
much.
Yeah.
To pay that much money and suck at something.
Yeah, I mean, it's sometimes I just like to call the golf course, the dominatrix.
You're just, you're just paying for pain, you know.
Yep.
I didn't know you like to call it that, Miles.
my buddy described it to me like that one time i thought that was very accurate pain to be never
mind uh we've already had enough romantics talk on this um what do you think is the best
NFL logo now if we're limiting it to the Midwest i would say
There's only like five teams, right?
Or six teams.
The Bengals.
Bengals, Browns.
Supposed he got the Chiefs.
Cults. Chiefs, Colts.
Kind of like the Colts.
Just the horseshoe is just solid and strong looking.
Yeah.
Kind of a nice.
It's a lucky charm.
I was gambling.
A casino woman gave me a horseshoe.
I was like,
yeah.
That's cool.
Now, if you went all NFL, I think I'm a closet Raiders fan.
And I think the Raiders have the best logo.
They have a great logo.
It's a cool logo.
I like you know, they suck, but they have a great logo.
Yeah.
I like classic.
Yeah.
Everywhere they go, they suck too, you know?
Yeah.
It's like everywhere they go, there they are.
Yep.
Yep.
They should have never left Oakland.
It's the argument that, uh, the owner of the team matters a lot more than,
than when we think, I think.
You know, yes.
I think, I think that I like, I watched, I watch the clip.
Did you know that Lane Kiffin was the coach for the Raiders at one point?
Yeah.
Do you know that, Charlie?
I don't, I don't know.
But anyways, I watched the video of them talking about when they drafted Jamarcus Russell.
Uh-huh.
Oh, God.
And Lane Kiffin was the coach at the time.
And he said that he wanted to draft Calvin Johnson, but Al Davis was hell bent on
Jamarcus Russell because the way they painted it was because he just like wanted to piss off
one of his other rich buddies who didn't want them to draft Jamarcus Russell and that's why
they drafted him.
Really?
Yeah.
I talked to someone who's in that world in the drafting world and they basically told me that
it is such a crapshoot that they don't even put that much pressure on themselves over it.
So many random people have done great.
So many great people have flopped.
I mean,
look at the Johnny football thing with the Browns.
You got Calvin Johnson.
You got to Marcus Russell.
Tim Tebow.
Just doesn't seem that hard.
Well,
I mean,
Tim Tebow fell to like the 20-some pick.
Yeah,
it's just odd.
He was a great college player.
And,
you know,
you know,
you know,
look at our boy Jack Strand.
Man.
Backup quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons right now
went to Minnesota State University
Morehead where I went to college.
Oh, wow, you guys played the same position, dude.
That could have been you.
You could have been a backup for the Falcons right now.
I believe he's from Bloomer, Wisconsin, too.
He is.
Oh, boomer.
Oh, yeah.
Wow, you do know what a trivia, Bob.
I mean, it's close to here.
Blumen Blackhawks.
The talk of the town.
That's probably true.
I probably should have known that.
I'm embarrassed.
I didn't.
Yeah.
But I like the logos that are like full caricatures.
Like the old Patriots logo or the old Broncos logo.
The dolphins.
I love how the dolphins have a
Buccaneers old logo.
That was cool.
That might have been the best right there.
Yeah.
Was that like just an orange version of the old Patriots logo kind of?
No, no, it was like a pirate with a knife in his mouth.
Yeah, with like a feather in his cap, right?
Feather in his camp.
It's kind of like the Raiders logo without the shield.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's true.
Oh, it's like a fancier version of the Raiders logo.
Knife in his mouth, yep.
Yeah.
It's if you're going to get it, if you're going to tattoo a logo on you,
I think the Buccaneers logo is one worth tattooing on you.
Everyone wants to be a pirate, you know?
Just for a day.
It's life is the life for you, Char.
It's a pirate's life for me.
You know, you sail the seas, you know, you get the booty, you know.
Treasure Miles, treasure.
Yeah, that old Buccaneers logo, it's kind of uncomfortable because he's like, has a knife
in his mouth and he's kind of weirdly.
He's winking.
It's kind of weirdly sexual.
Yeah.
Hair blowing in one direction.
I mean, yeah, he's a good looking guy.
What's his name, that original, that original Buccaneers?
Bucco Bruce.
He kind of reminds me of Zorro.
Let me see him. Can I take a nice look at that?
He's got a huge hearing, too.
Dude, why would you get rid of that?
Why would you get rid of that?
It's just turning too many people on, Charlie.
God, I mean, that guy, man, oh man.
And he's probably, he's not winking.
He just doesn't have that eye.
Well, they would put a patch over it if that was the case.
Not Buckle Bruce, dude.
He didn't care.
He's like,
Show all the wounds.
Guy, that's a big feather, too.
What is that?
The pelican feather?
Let's figure out what kind of feathered.
You think that the guy who's sailing the Caribbean is got a pelican feather in his?
Yeah, dude.
Migration, you know?
Sure.
What, you don't think pelicans fly down there?
Have you ever been down to Fort of miles?
They got pelicans.
Yeah.
Are you kidding me?
that might be where they hang out most of the time yeah it probably are i don't know back me up on this
bob where we're pelicans native to i guess there is the new orleans swamp land like yeah i would
i assume like uh any place where there's a marsh yeah birds migrate yeah it's their thing
i'm not i'm not a pelican expert but i think that uh not yet you're not but i bet after this call
you're going to go down that rabbit hole.
Yeah, yeah, call me in a week.
Going to that Pelican nest.
Yeah.
Well, is there anything else you want to talk about, Bob?
Well, while we're on logos, I just have to say, the Minnesota Twins, I think used to have
a great, the T.C. logo, whatever the hell they have now is terrible.
I just want to throw that.
I agree.
I think the T.C. logo is one of the, yeah, I think it's a terrible logo.
Really?
Are you thinking of, like, the old school where they actually have, like, the T.
twin characters.
I mean, I like that too, but I also just like the TC because I think it's unique.
I just think the M now that they have is.
I think the M is way cooler personally.
Oh, no, not that one.
The old like almost looks like a M that you'd use.
Yeah, that one is sick.
That M is way cooler in a T.C.
But it's kind of like every other.
M.
Yep.
Yeah, Bucket.
Yeah, Bucket.
Kirby.
Puckett.
What a fun name to say, dude.
well okay i did have one other thing i wanted to ask to miles i think you your son is what two plus years old now
yep so i moved back to um o'clair about last fall like in november and part of the reason i moved
and part of the perka moving is i have a two and a half year old nephew now what are the best loud
toys that I can purchase for my nephew to piss my sister and my brother-in-law off.
Well, this is actually a great question for Charlie because he already did this at my house.
Nice.
Do you remember what you bought Charlie and then got on a flight and left?
Charlie,
but a couple things.
I did.
I bought a couple things.
One, I got a real sick Nerf dart gun.
that is a lethal.
An electric one.
It takes 12
AA batteries. Miles had to
clear out six remotes just to
fill this sucker up.
His dad is probably pissed right now
trying to turn the TV on it.
But the most prize
possession I brought into the Mount Pleasure
household is
a little DJ booth
for the young buck.
There's so many buttons on that thing.
and they all light up in different ways and the battery gate has screw holes on it.
So, you know.
Oh, and it also has a like a disco ball light on it.
Thank you, God.
Yeah.
How does he like it?
He does like it actually a lot.
Hell yeah, he does.
Does he cry when he can't have it?
He knows the buttons now too where it's like,
and there's one that's just like, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
And sometimes just keep pressing.
that button over and over. He's going to be a little DJ, uh, DJ Call. But now it's to the point
where what he like, it's become background noise to where it's just like you kind of like,
I remember, I don't remember if it was my brother, my sister was over and he was playing with
that and they're like, God, that thing is annoying. I was like, I, I've become desensitized to it.
I don't even notice it. That's okay. I'm going to send you a little DJ bouncing beats just for just to get it
back in it. But I think.
a drum set probably one-ups the DJ table.
The DJ table you can turn off.
The drum set is much more jarring.
Because when someone can play drums well, it's kind of nice.
But a two-year-old cannot play the drums well.
So it's just going to mostly be piercing to the ears.
And that's a tough one to give.
You got to set that up and put it in there and surprise him.
and then show him how it's done, get him addicted to it within like 10 minutes before his parents can say,
how are we going to get rid of this thing?
Yeah, when I was a kid, my uncle gave me in different gifts.
One time it was a keyboard.
One time it was a toy AK-47 that had a nice, really loud rattle.
And then I remember a toy chainsaw, which I'm guessing.
you couldn't even sell anymore.
But I realized as I got older,
it was just to piss my parents off.
And I thought,
well,
I have to keep that going.
Yes.
I'll have to be a good one.
I mean,
oh,
the first starting point is if a toy doesn't have a try me button on it
at the store,
steer clear of those.
You want something with a button that's going to make noise.
I,
for one of his,
I think his first birthday,
I got him or maybe second,
And I got him a, like a wooden set of instruments.
And it's got, you know, like a little toy xylophone.
But it has a bunch of other things.
It has a set of Maracas and a tambourine.
And he uses the Maracas as drumsticks on the tambourine, which is such a jarring sound.
But again, I know I can leave and they'll have to deal with it.
Yeah.
That's the whole point.
And the point is you give that present right before you're leaving.
right as you're out the door.
Yeah, me and child were shooting a video that was very similar to this situation.
He went to Walmart.
He dropped like 250 bucks on annoying toys.
There's a tax right off.
Brought it to my cabin.
We shot the video at like 9.30 p.m. that night.
The next day he gets up at 5 to go to the airport.
Just left it.
Well, you forgot.
You forgot the other part.
I remember he showed up and I was like, and I was like,
How are you going to fit all this in your suitcase?
Nope.
And the best part was I got back to the house.
We shot it at like nine,
but I got to the house at five.
Anne was leaving with Augie.
And I was like,
Augie,
check this out.
And I let him press a couple buttons so he knew.
So he got that little taste.
Yeah.
That is exciting.
I recently bought a slot car track for when he comes to visit me.
but I'm also enjoying the hell out of it too
because slot car racing is awesome
and it's you guys know what that is right
it's where you just put it on the track
and then you just basically pull the trigger
and it just goes around a track
like a hot wheels kind of track
is it like magnetic
it's magnetic and electric
so you plug it in and then the car
connects to the track via
magnets or something
it's like a little metal strip that goes down
in the middle of it's great.
I've seen that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We had one of those growing up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I bought one and when he comes over, I haven't shown it to him yet, but it's going to,
because he's super into cars now.
So it's going to be just, he's going to blow his mind.
Actually, the most annoying thing that I kind of put a little bit of a ban on is my wife
bought a thing off of TikTok shop where it's a car that you turn it on and it goes on its own.
But the track is all these things you connect together and it like moves and shifts on its own.
and the car just follows the track around.
And it's really cool at first,
but then it's just,
it's just loud enough and just annoying enough
that it,
where it's almost like torture.
That I eventually was like,
I'm putting this in the basement
and I just hope to never see it again.
So I'm picturing it just being perpetual.
Like it just constantly goes.
And of course,
he plays with it for like a minute and a half
and then he runs off and does something else
but doesn't shut off the car.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, the attention span is always the issue, right, with the toys.
Because if I'm going to get something noisy, I know that it's going to be used for maybe two minutes tops at a time.
So I need to get the most noise for my buck at that point.
Yep, most of those are a buck or something that doesn't turn off when they leave it.
Right, right.
That's good, too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yep.
All right.
Nice.
well Bob this has been great dude yeah yeah I'm a huge fan you both of you guys
individually and I think the fact that you found each other and we did
have it sounds like he's giving a best man speech at our wedding yeah I mean I knew both
separately but together they're just yeah you know it's like the sum is greater than
or the whole is greater than the sum of the part whatever the hell that's
That's you guys.
Yeah.
Let's go.
Together we make a good hole.
Wow.
We fill each other's holes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah.
Well, I will be honest, I didn't expect most of this conversation to go this way when I first left voicemails for you.
What did you expect?
Well, I think more importantly, Miles, it's important to know that I didn't expect any talk about romantic with an ex.
RFK Jr.
Or me,
trying to decide where you guys would be best fit in a employment situation.
So. Well, that's what you get here on the billied up.
I've enjoyed it.
Don't get me wrong.
I've enjoyed it other than you call me Bobby.
But other than that, I've had a really nice fun.
Well, it's been, it's been real nice.
That's what you get, Charlie, when you got two guys with 48 tabs open in their browser.
Yeah, you get a little bit of everything.
And we got to.
You guys are ever in Elclair.
Yeah.
Let me lie.
Okay.
Yeah.
First round of high life.
on me. Okay, Bobby. That sounds good. Miles. Miles. Gosh. Miles. I can't. There's no like,
how do I, what nickname do I give you? You know, I can't. Call him blocks.
Oh, fuck face. Moron. Dickhead. I actually get that a lot.
Kilometers. That's pretty good. All right. All right, Bob. You'd be good, my guy.
All right. Tell your folks. I says I. All right. Watch.
Just had to get one more in there, Miles.
Well, he offered me a high life.
So that's retaliation.
Beards, beer, Miles.
Well, should we take another caller?
Yeah.
Kyle.
Hey, Charlie.
Hey, I'm here with Miles.
Hi, Kyle.
Hey, Miles.
How are you doing today?
I'm doing good.
You need a gift idea, Kyle?
I do need a gift idea.
For who?
For my neighbor.
So I have a,
a neighbor who I've only met this guy one time.
One time.
And so he comes over all the time and mows our front yard.
Hell yeah, dude.
Which is fucking awesome.
I have no idea.
I'm guessing like 40s.
Okay.
Well, why are you saying it like that?
Well, what's so funny about your 40s?
So he looks like he could be 29 also.
Oh, definitely not.
Okay.
Definitely not.
He looks like he works construction.
And so, I mean, he could be 35 or he could be 52.
It's hard to tell.
Yeah, it's like if you describe an average 40-year-old, it's probably someone who has got some sort of neck beard going on.
Fuck off, Miles.
Maybe some dirty glasses that they wear.
They're cleanish today.
You know, a little bit of a wrinkly shirt.
The shirts are always wrinkly.
Life's too short to...
Oh, that's part of the design of the shirt.
I was like, what is that on there?
It doesn't look like.
Looks like you just were in the back room at Romantics.
It looks like it's tied-died with Spunk.
The shirt I'm wearing.
So you're like, you're like, hey, I got to get this guy something for mow in my front yard.
Is it a little annoying that he doesn't just do the whole yard?
well because we have a fenced in backyard
okay you can't get there
you should let them know you should show them where the
where the gate is to the fence
I've thought about it
now are you not
is this a passive aggressive mo or is this a kind
mo like are you not out there getting your lawn mode
no this is this is the kind
mo um so
I work on the road a lot so
I'm gone most of the week
and so sometimes it
it's a little long, you know, because it takes maybe a week and a half between mows or something like that.
Sure.
But he mows.
So he lives right straight across from us and he's got, oh, he's got a big yard.
He probably lives, we live in town and he's probably got like over an acre lot.
Like so a big, big yard.
And so he mows his yard and then he comes across and he mows our yard and then our neighbor right next to us.
Wow.
yard so and he's never done this before but this year he decided to start doing it yeah is he pushing
i just i mean yeah no he's not pushing he's just uh he's got a writer i mean i don't know i think
he borrows it from work and i mean i want to check in on him he may he might be having some
marital issues well he's he's not married there's there's no one living over there with him um that i
know of at least.
Maybe he's just lonely.
Yeah, I have you talked to him.
You said one time.
The only interaction I've ever had with him, his name's Mark.
So just to give the name, Mark, he, he, uh, we had a bunch of rain a couple weeks ago.
So we live in central Indiana, you know, we were right in the middle of all that, like,
flooding a couple weeks ago.
And so, like, it was just so wet that it took, we couldn't move for two weeks because
there was just too much water.
And so we, I went out there because it was so long.
I was like, I need to mow.
And I'm out there mowing at like eight o'clock.
And he, uh, he's driving by and his white contractor ran and he just yells out at me.
No, no, no, don't, don't do that.
I'll get it.
I'll get it tomorrow.
That's my only interaction with him.
Wow.
What did you say?
I said, hell yeah, sure.
I'll take that.
Nice.
And you asked for his name and
Well, so
I mean, I've never asked
his name because my wife, I think
My wife has talked to him, I think,
once before. So
my
Oh.
Oh.
Okay.
Okay.
You think?
Oh.
You think once before?
Well, he has a bunch of dogs.
And so I half
wonder if he does it out of kindness
because he has some kind of
like shithead dogs that just kind of roam the neighborhood.
Okay.
So he's not exactly the most popular guy in our neighborhood.
He's trying to get back in good faith.
That might be it.
It also could just be that he does it out of the kindness of his heart.
Because my dad in the winter, so my dad owns a concrete construction business.
So he's got a couple two tree skid steers.
Nice.
And so in the winter, when he wasn't working, he would just park a skid steer in our driveway.
And when it would snow, he would.
just clear all of the
houses driveways with the skid
steer in the winter. In your neighborhood?
Yeah, because he just didn't have much going
on in the winter and he liked
doing it and so he would just go
and clear everyone's driveway out with the
skid steer and you know, I
reap the benefits because people would bring
over, you know,
chippers and scotch
rube bars and stuff as thanks.
So I think that that could be
the way to this, to
the gift you should give. Give him the
gift of food.
Yeah.
The food?
Yeah, because you don't know anything about this guy.
So to get him like a gift, you know, that would be like an actual product you go by,
it's a single guy living by himself.
The biggest pain in the ass is going to get groceries.
I bet you brought him over a nice casserole, scotch, like Miles is suggesting.
You may want to steer away from Scotchrews.
be allergic to peanuts. That would be
well he's got dogs.
Yeah. Just don't put
raisins. Yeah, just
feed scotch and rubas
the dogs with the chocolate on top.
That seems like a good idea, Charlie.
Oh yeah. It's not real chocolate.
If it's milk chocolate, it's probably
fine. Yeah.
But I think, yeah, just
you and your wife make up a nice hot
dish and bring it on over and say thanks.
Yeah. That might be
that might be it. I mean, that's like kind
the Midwestern love language for everyone involved is just a nice hot dish.
Yeah.
Well, the hardest part is I just never know when he's home either because he comes and goes
and it might he might come home at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
He might come home at like 10 o'clock at night.
It's hard to tell.
Does he have a porch?
No.
Just a door?
Well, there's a door something.
There's like four doors on this house and I don't know which one.
you know, so just put it by the garage.
He's going in through the garage.
Just make four dishes and put them at all four doors.
You've got it covered.
He's not going to miss it.
I mean, this guy also seems pretty vigilant.
I think if he sees, if you put it on any of the doors, he's going to find it.
Yeah.
Well, I was thinking just like by the mailbox even because he's got, our mailboxes are right
next to each other on the street.
And my wife's idea was just to get a gift card.
And I was like, well, is that a good idea?
is a gift card not enough there you go that's a great combo gift card and a hot dish and you're gonna be
chilling yeah put it in a put it in like a metal pan though or like an aluminum pan though because
you don't want to have to do the awkward get the pan back to you thing yeah that pan is a goner and then
maybe the gift card in the hot dish a nice little surprise for it yeah buried in there kind of like
the cracker jack box you know
that's not a bad idea
that's a great idea
yeah make sure you get one that's not sensitive
to heat though if he puts it in the
other it just melts
get him a metal gift card
yeah but that's
exactly
he's so funny
just
give him
he's like I tried your cassero
yeah a card with a gift card
paired with a hot dish
is like, that's like a Midwestern guy's dream.
Yeah.
Gift.
That might be a good idea.
Yeah,
because my wife,
she loves to bake and cook,
so that'd be perfect.
She's the office baker at her office, so.
And some cookies.
Some cookies.
She's always making cookies.
Yeah.
What kind of cookies is her best cookie?
Ooh.
Um,
she does a really good chocolate chip.
I mean,
you got to go with the classic.
Sure.
Yeah.
You know.
Yeah.
But you know what you do?
I mean, she can make good everything else.
So here's what you got to do.
You put those, those chocolate chip cookies in a cooler.
Get yourself a couple of those ice packs.
Put in fill it with beer and put the cold cookies and beer.
Oh, man.
This guy.
The hot dish on top and a gift card.
Oh, that's it.
And then you could also, you know, you don't know if he's,
what kind of diet he's into.
So get him an edible arrangement.
too like a fruit basket.
Yeah, throwing some edibles too.
Throwing some edibles.
We don't know what kind of vice.
Maybe throwing a couple scratchers.
Yeah.
Possibly.
We want to do a big old Midwest gift basket.
Yeah.
That sounds like a good idea.
I would go for some.
Throw in some wooden nickels,
some drink tokens to the local bar.
Yes.
Yes.
Give them a few random things out of your junk drawer just in case his needs
filling.
Two tree extra batteries and don't just give them double A's.
That's what everyone's doing.
Give him a C.
Oh, yeah, you got to get him a C or a D.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or the circle ones that taste good.
Yeah.
The ones that look like, like mentos.
Yeah.
The watch batteries, yeah.
Yeah.
And just a random key, too.
Don't tell them what it's for.
He'll figure it out.
Yeah, that's kind of nice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Is he a good looking guy?
And then just throw in the treasure map that you just hand drew.
Just to see what happens.
Yeah.
Is he?
No, dude, what you need to do is if you want some landscaping stuff done,
do, like maybe you want like a dead tree removed.
Just make a treasure map with the buried treasure underneath your dead tree.
Oh, dude.
And then he can not only look for buried treasure, go on a treasure hunt, you get the tree removed as well.
This is a guy who has access to equipment.
He's got a stump grinder in there somewhere.
I'm sure he does.
I do have some stumps in the backyard.
It used to be,
our yard used to be like 75% trees in the back.
So I've happened.
The wind?
Well, we cut a bunch of them down.
It was just all,
it was all invasive species.
Oh, there you go.
Yeah.
So I think another thing you could do,
the other route you could do is by dropping hints based off your gift.
So you could like give them like a gift card,
but also throw in.
weed wacker line basically being like hey well i mean oh he already does that okay oh well hey supplies
maybe get him some new mower blades yeah yeah yeah some new more blades and definitely some weed
whacking line because you know weed whacking line i feel like you always lose it this is a great
question actually i'm curious what do you call a weed whacker i call it a weed whacker some people
call it a weed eater some people call it a trimmer what do you call it a weed whacker traditionally
Weed wacker, yeah.
What about you, Jared?
Weed wacker.
What about you, Kyle?
It's just the weed whacker, yeah.
Wacker trimmer.
The weed eater was something I think they sold on 1-800 numbers, which was the blades.
Oh, okay.
I think it was green and it had blades.
I think they called it the weed eater.
And I think that's the origination of that.
Now, I'm pulling that out of my ass and deep into the memory bank.
So you guys know not to trust me.
But I think that's true.
Yeah.
I think that goes without being said.
Yeah.
At this point.
It's like,
this is a great example.
It's like when my mom still to this day, when we leave her house, she says drive safe.
Yeah.
And we did tell my mom at one point, we said, mom, how about we agree on this?
We will continue to drive safe until you tell you tell us to not drive safe.
Yeah.
So when you want us to not drive safe, then say that.
But if you want us to, we'll just assume that you want.
us too. What'd she say after that? She didn't love it. I'm a mom and that's what moms say.
That is what mom say. And so what I was going with that is I think people assume that we don't know
what we're talking about. Yeah. So we'll actually alert the audience when we do know what we're talking.
Perfect. From here on out. Fair enough. No. Yeah. Otherwise it's a waste of words.
It's a waste of time. Yeah. Waste of time. Now let me ask you this too. Is this guy a good looking dude?
I mean, I don't think he's particularly bad looking.
All right.
Oh, God.
He's been talking to your wife.
Oh, I mean, I'm pretty sure they've been neighbors for like eight years longer than we've known each other.
So it's going to happen.
It would have happened a long time ago.
Maybe it did.
Are you aware of everything in your wife's past?
She's pretty honest about most things.
So I'd like to think I wouldn't.
Well, why does it?
Charlie, we got Steve.
What are we doing?
I don't know.
Why doesn't you?
your wife what I'm here's where I'm getting at you know maybe he's maybe he's looking for you know
a group to you know connect with that maybe his wife could hook him up with one of our friends is what
I'm saying okay yeah maybe uh throw a phone number and a name in with your gift yeah that is possible
yeah well and I the only weird thing about that would be I honestly we don't know enough about the
guy if he honestly he might have a girlfriend he might have a lady on the you know that just doesn't
with them or something like that.
And that's why you, with this gift, you got to just get them everything.
The kitchen sink.
Yeah.
Throw a faucet hose in there.
Yeah.
That's a great point.
Yeah.
Get them a Brita filter that you screw on to the, to the kitchen sink.
Oh, there you go.
Some of those, you know, I broke the Brita filter a long time ago.
So you got plenty of extra filters.
Okay.
Throw in some filters.
Yeah.
Throw in some furnace filters.
And then put in a note that, I mean, that's,
maybe the best gifts.
Yeah, you got to check your filters.
Yeah.
It's tough, though.
He's got to get the right size now.
I mean, it takes a...
Get him a gift card to the hardware store
where they sell filters and you're good.
And then you got a lot of conversation starters with them
the next time you see him.
You say, hey, did that furnace filter fit or no?
And if he says yes, now you know his filter size.
If not, you know where the hardware store is.
I mean, this guy is saving you a lot of time and hardship by getting that
that grass guy.
maybe find out why he's cutting the grass, you know?
Find out a little more about him.
But let it start off with this Midwest gift kit.
Yeah, I should ask him because, yeah, we push Mo regularly.
And he's got that rider and it makes it look easy.
Zero turn?
Mm-hmm.
Oh, this guy knows what he's doing.
Oh, yeah.
And he puts the stripes in it and everything.
Does he really know?
Yeah, he stripes it.
He stripes.
So he does diage.
diagonal stripes starting from our yard into our neighbor on our uh also it's like a unified front oh yeah
oh wow no he doesn't even put that much effort into his own yard does he does he sit on the uh front
stoop looking at your houses ever maybe you maybe enjoy looking at it just like he couldn't stand
the way you were cutting your lawn and so he just said screw it i'm just going to do it if i got
look at it all day yeah oh that that might be a possibility because you know
I'm not as bad as Charlie on, you know, my yard, but...
I'm pretty bad.
Yeah, I just, you know, it's cut and it's good.
That's all I care about.
I could give two shits about lines and things like that.
That's as bad as me.
We're on the same page.
Well, I mean, I don't get it that long.
Oh, did I say that on this podcast?
Yeah.
I forget what I said.
Charlie neglected his lawn so long that he got, he, he decided to...
No, he decided to...
to go with the argument that he was doing one of those wild flower lawns.
I did, bro, but.
Hate to break to you, Charlie.
Dandy lions are not part of the wild flower lawn.
Seems pretty wild to me, Miles.
You've got to get some clover mixed in there.
I do have some clover.
I do.
That's about 90% of our yard.
So clover is so nice to walk out.
I think in the back, Charlie, he's got some of that wild flower.
I wish, Miles.
I wish.
That's tough to live in the wrong state for that.
Yeah.
We got to get some better dirt in Milwaukee.
I'll tell you that much.
Well, I'm glad I think we gave it on.
What route do you think you'll go with your gift?
Well, I'm thinking definitely of the gift card and, you know,
should definitely give them some cookies.
That was a good idea.
I didn't even think about that.
Because your wife's a baker, you know.
She is a baker.
Let's lead with our strong hand here.
Yeah.
She's always making cookies anyways, so it's less cookies I have to eat.
A little slimmer around the waist.
There you go.
Yeah.
How old are you, by the way?
I'm going to turn 28 in two weeks.
You're about to turn a corner where even looking at a cookie gives you a belly, by the way.
So you're not there yet.
So enjoy the cookies while you can.
I think it's advice.
You know, not everyone's is blessed with metabolism that Charlie Barron.
has. Oh, I know. Yeah. Just stress and uppers. Yeah. Just kidding, kids. Just kidding.
No, but look, I think you're in a good way with this. And I would, what really we need here,
though, is this gift to start a conversation with your neighbor. And, you know, a few more touch
points, I think. And I think of generally speaking, I think, and I'm giving myself this advice,
a couple combos with the neighbors. A couple more would do probably good, you know?
Yeah. And you think about it selfishly, if you talk to a neighbor more than twice a month,
it just goes without saying you pretty much have access to the tools in their garage and they
have access to the tools in your garage. So that's kind of how it goes. That is true. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know if.
I don't know because I like having not access to them.
It gives me a good excuse to buy new tools.
Well, that's true.
That's a great counterpoint.
There you go.
I mean, no one has to know.
Well, yeah.
You know, you can still buy them.
But there are some tools that you're only really using once a year and they take up some space.
Yeah, they do.
So, all right.
Well, this was good.
I'm glad you called in.
We could help you with that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm glad you guys could help me with my problem.
Before I get you off the line, though, I got to,
I got to defend you a little bit, Charlie, here on something you guys have been talking about.
Nice.
Great.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Let's take Team Charlie here real quick.
I think Zales is a respectable store.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And I think that, you know, the watch was a nice gift.
And, you know, I mean, it might.
I, if out of context, it might have some, you know, different meanings or some connotations to it.
But it's still a nice gift.
It's a great gift.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
And there, I have not understood the Zales.
I used to work at Annie Anns and I would watch people go into Zales all day long.
I thought one day I'll have that Zales money.
And now I do and I'm being shame for it.
You know, I got my white sweating ring at Zales.
Yes, you did, sir.
Yes, you did.
And is it a nice ring?
Oh, yeah.
That's what I'm talking about.
You hear that, my mouth?
I don't know if the argument was ever that it was bad.
It's just such an obscure, like, I don't know.
Obscure.
It's better than K's.
Yeah, exactly.
And no shame.
It's actually good.
You didn't go to K's for your employee because everyone knows that every kiss
begins with K.
That's true.
In fact, that did run through my head.
I would have been a disaster.
I saw K's.
I thought that was more of an engagement store.
but Zales, now that's a classy
institute.
I don't know.
No, they're definitely
classier than K's, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I can't talk.
I really shouldn't be talking
because I bought my wife's wedding ring
online.
So.
Well, I bought it from a nice gal at
Zay.
Not the wedding ring.
That's a different story.
But the watch, you know,
and I got an engraved there.
I got an engraved there.
engraved. What did you write what did you engrave? Uh, watch out for deer. No. Did you do I
I didn't I didn't end up going with that? Keeper moving. No, I said, uh, did you. Did you
this way I engraved that. I said let's look at the raw because anytime Colleen would edit a video.
Oh God. She would hate it when I wanted to look at the raw footage. You should engraved a man of
minute to walk minutes on it. Yeah. Shit, that would have been way better. This is a way to keep
track of your minute to walk minutes.
That would have been a long engraving.
Hey, this is the engraving.
Hey, thanks for working here.
I got this as a special gift for you.
And then it just cuts off.
To remember all of the Manitowoc minutes that we shared together.
I hope the best for you in your journey going forward.
Thanks for all of the laughs.
P.S.
Let's take a look at the raw.
We could have engraved that.
They have a,
they have a character limit miles so we just had to cut it down to that but um anyways well i do
appreciate uh you coming to my defense here you know someone's got to miles picks on me for a little
he does you're you're defenseless against him sometimes i know he loves playing no my
he loves it i do not believe i turn the other cheek and i just let you punt
I'm on me here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I could fight, but I'm a lover, not a fighter, Miles.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And if you guys got time, I got one other thing I wanted to talk about.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I'm a cradle Catholic, you know.
And I have never once in church or on angels wings.
On, well, yeah.
Or on eagle's wings.
Yeah.
On Eagles wing.
Yeah, I've never heard that.
He said on Angels.
Yeah, same difference.
How dare you disrespect Mike Jansko like that?
What's his name?
What's his name?
Johnis?
Johnis.
This, Mark Johndiss.
You might be a little young.
It might be before your time.
But let me tell you this in the late 80s,
in the late 90s and the early 2000s, the early nots.
I think they're still.
doing it. They are. It just depends on
maybe you got to find a different parish.
When was the last time you were in church?
Sunday.
Well, hey, do they have a
suggestion box at the church?
They do. I mean, I could switch to one of the other
Catholic churches in Moncee, I guess.
Do like a cover band and go
drop like 20 in a jar for
the choir and just ask
them to play angels.
Or damn it. Eagles.
I mean, this is the collection basket.
Yeah.
It's a better title right there, Angel wings instead of Eagles.
Don't you try and mess with.
Shunt your mouth.
That's blasphemy.
Listen, you put a 10 spot in the collection basket every week with a little piece of paper
that says on Eagles wings and this will be a 20.
And you do that every week.
You're going to hear that song.
But you better come with a 20 because they're going to do it.
Oh, yeah.
It'd be better than, oh, what have they been playing?
somebody's knocking on your door.
How is that going?
I have heard it.
I can't pull it on my brain, though.
It is a,
it literally says on there like,
Baptist like slave music on there,
on the little thing that they have on the miscellet.
And I'm like,
what the hell are we singing?
And it goes,
somebody's knocking on your door.
Somebody.
knocking on your door.
Oh, sinner, why don't you answer?
Somebody's knocking on your door.
Oh, that's a nice one.
It is a pretty nice one.
It just sticks in your head for about three weeks after church.
Have you heard this one?
Dance, then, wherever we may be.
I am the Lord of the dance said he, and I'll lead you down.
Wherever he may be, and I'll bring you all the dance.
said he that's one that makes you want to tap the foot maybe swing a gal around that's kind of
okay yeah i've never heard that one before that's kind of like a post-easter song post-eastern
springtime you're headed into summer yeah it's like let's get a banger in here you know let's let's
knock up the the bpms a bit you know yeah and maybe that was the problem my grandma was the uh
was the organ player at our local parish growing up so maybe she didn't like that
kind of music and
yeah
she didn't want to learn it so
yeah that could be it
newfangled huh well start
spreading the good word about eagle's wings
mm-hmm get in
we're doing some boots on the ground
marketing for Mike Junkus
I mean I think
oh yeah I think what I want
Miles I'm not going to rest until
Mike Junkis is number one
on the billboard charts
I will not rest
until that's the case
I was just to get him on this podcast
but sure we can go there.
Hey, that might be the next step towards it.
I'm going to use whatever influence I have
to push Mike Junkus to a platinum selling Catholic artist.
We can at least,
let's at least get them on the top of the Billboard Catholic charts.
Yeah.
Let's get them.
Yeah. Well, Kyle, we appreciate it, man.
And this has been great and have a good one.
Yep, you guys too.
See you, brother.
Well, Miles
Did you think the first
Because we sing
We've been singing an eagle's wings
Since like episode two
Episode one or two yeah
Really
And so Charlie this is the one bit
That has stood the test of time for us
Wow
This is
And it's really becoming a movement at this point
It is a movement
A social revolution
Within the Catholic faith
I think the world would be a better place
If more people were listening
To eagles wings
I think so too
I think we
Yes
100%. It could save the world. Not to be cliche or corny about it, but music specifically that song.
Could heal the soul. Heal the soul. So guys, we appreciate you tuned into another episode of the bellied up podcast. Remember to tip your bartender.
And I will raise you up on eagle's wings.
Make you to shine like the sun and hold you in the palm of his hand.
One day we'll get singing license too.
No.
Okay.
Okay, hope you guys have a good one.
Goodbye now.
Toodoo.
