Welcome to Burning
Hell
You guys know where you are
You're back in hell
with Hannah Burner
And we have a very special guest today
His name is Sunny
It's kind of like Cher
He just goes by one name
He's very mysterious
He DMed me on Instagram
And he is the rule
of the iconic meme account, Sunny Side Up, is that what you call it, or Sunny Five?
Just Sunny Side Up, yeah.
So you're actually 12K away from hitting a million followers.
Yeah.
How does that feel?
Feels pretty good, I guess. I've been doing it for four years, so I'm not, like, surprised,
but I guess I'm excited.
So once you hit a million, you think your dick's going to feel bigger?
Like, what's going to happen?
I don't think it's going to make any difference, honestly.
Like, I thought, like, maybe two years ago when the number was so far away,
I thought it was going to make a difference, but now it's just like, no.
You're so cute and humble, and you came in 10 months early, which was so polite of you,
and you seem so sweet, and you're, like, kind of shy.
So why the fuck did you decide to put yourself through hell with me?
Because you DM'd me.
Yeah, I mean, I just like doing podcasts, and I thought it was, like, a funny name.
I mean, originally I thought it was a weed podcast because it was, like, burning.
I was like, okay, that sounds cool.
Yeah.
You're like, smoke weed, talk about mental health.
get harassed, whatever.
Yeah, and then I came here and there's no weed anywhere.
Do you want some?
Um, I have. It's okay.
Last time I smoked, I cried for 12 hours in a corner.
Oh, yeah.
I'm really bad with weed.
Yeah.
So my question for the Sunny Side Up meme account is, when did you start it?
I started it when Instagram first started as like, kind of like a personal page.
And I'm a music producer, so I first wanted to gain a following for my music.
Cool.
And I started with just making.
funny videos with my music and then I just kept making other types of content and memes.
Like what makes your account cool is the kind of memes you're posting. So like do you find
it in special places? Like you're a Tumblr guy, or you a Reddit guy? So I honestly use, I am a
Tumblr guy, I'm a Reddit guy, but most of the, so a lot of the content on Sunny Side Up is
content that I make. That's very interesting because I feel like the bigger meme accounts, they
have a brand. Like you can tell like, oh, that was daddy issues. Or,
oh, those girls no job.
They're, like, slightly different.
What's your, what differentiates your meme page?
I guess my meme page, it appeals more to, like, alternative lifestyles.
Cool.
I like making memes about conspiracy theories, like pop punk or alternative rock.
It sounds like it's kind of like for the outcasts.
Yeah, it's like weird, not too outcasted because everyone knows Aver Levine, but it's kind of like
ironic at this point.
Yeah, it's almost like making fun of alternative lifestyles.
But I am that. I make fun of myself in most of the memes, though.
Is that therapeutic for you?
Yeah, it's great.
My parents are a little worried sometimes, because sometimes I'll make, like, really sad memes.
And then, like, they never said anything until recently.
What did they say to you?
My dad texted me.
He's like, are you, like, are you okay?
Like, me and your mom are worried?
I'm like, dad, I'm fine.
This is, like, what I do for a living.
It's funny because your friends will be like,
the kid has almost a million followers.
Yeah, he's posting suicidal memes, but, like, he's hilarious.
It's lit. Exactly. So maybe it's good that your parents are kind of like just checking in on you.
Yeah, it is good. Sometimes I feel sad, I guess, and I make a sad meme, but I think it's therapeutic.
Well, that's what I say about my tweets, because I always say, if you want to know I'm going through, just look at my Twitter.
Like, you can definitely tell when, like, I just, like, ghosted someone or, like, I feel hurt by a dude or, like, I quit my job.
And I think a lot of people try to have successful humor online by.
thinking like what's funny but what makes an account funny is when people start to realize your
unique humor like when people tag me and be like oh it's about like a tall guy or liking cats or
liking astrology like that's what makes i think people kind of like my humor because they start to
know who i am and i feel like you've really hit that now in the head there's so many meme pages and i guess
it's always good to be different and yeah it's so saturated yeah i try to keep like the basic like
theme of that account just like music memes and like just like pop culture stuff and um it's been
beneficial like all the people that i make memes about like fall out boy weezer like a bunch of bands
i like i get to work with them sometimes that's sick yeah can you tell when you post it within
like a minute how well it's going to do i used to be able to but now that the algorithm's like
always changing and everything i mean i don't always delete things sometimes i'm comfortable
with something getting less likes because long as it's on brand yeah sometimes if i think it's
I'm like, I don't give a fuck if people didn't think this is funny.
I'm holding and I'm standing by it.
I have a question.
How did you find me?
I have no idea.
I don't know.
Sometimes I just like look through.
I think you were following me already, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sometimes I just look through like my likes and my followers.
I just see if like anything interesting is happening.
Cool.
You think I'm interesting?
Yeah.
I thought your stuff was pretty good.
Cool.
I appreciate you.
Yeah, that's how I follow you.
So you have a meme page.
What job did you have before this and like how was the transition to like have to
tell your parents I'm running a meme page well I used to work for my dad and I worked for him for
four years what kind of job he is in the garment business oh wow and he's been in the garment business
like since I before I was born are you a city kid yeah where in the city well I grew up in Brooklyn
oh me too midwood yeah I'm from park slope this is some authentic Brooklyn shit happening right now
that you're witnessing real Brooklyn street knowledge you're all about to get some real
Brooklyn street cred after listening to this so he works in the garment district you worked for him
When did you realize and have an existential crisis that you hated yourself and your job?
It was probably around the time, like, October 2014 was then my dad fired me.
You had a fuck happened.
I like, so I was, I had a really important job and I was doing like production and sample design and all this stuff.
Yeah, that's high pressure.
Yeah, I sent like the, I sent someone the wrong quantities in an email that was like something with the shipping or something.
and I've been fucking up for a while
because I honestly like I was doing my job
but I didn't care at all
It was like handed to me so it wasn't
You're not passionate about it
You didn't feel like you earned it, I get it
Yeah and around that time was when I started
Like gaining followers on Instagram
I guess just from doing goofy stuff
Yeah
And then I had like a one or two months
Where I just sat home and just worked on the Instagram
And then I started realizing
I could probably make money from it
So I started like trying to get like random jobs
Cool
Like I did like freelance for some app that's pretty big now.
I was working at this ad agency.
It's not around anymore.
It's called the Blue Market.
Cool.
And we would promote apps through Instagram influencers, mainly like generic big meme accounts,
like relationship goals, but like those accounts that you really don't know.
So you started to see the money in it.
Yeah.
I was the one like feeding them content.
And it was like I would have to make like 30, 40 meme videos a day for apps.
Oh shit.
So I was just all day just like cranking them out.
So you were getting good at creating.
Yeah.
Did any of it promote your own page?
No, nothing.
Yeah.
But the people who worked there and, like, the boss and everything,
they were cool with me running my pages there.
Good.
And just, I was able to grow and make money, so it worked well.
Sometimes it's hard to find a job that's cool with you doing your own thing.
Exactly.
This was, like, the perfect place for me, so.
So then when did you transition from that gig?
So in May 2017, almost two years later,
it was at a point where I was already making, like,
triple the amount online than I was making at my job.
Holy shit.
And this is just from people reaching out to you wanting to do ads.
Yeah, I never reached out.
I've only reached out to like one company my entire life.
You have that vibe that's not thirsty.
And that's why I think people want to work with you.
Because they're just like, this kid isn't trying too hard.
And that's the energy that people like gravitate to.
The thing about me is I'm not motivated by money.
I thought you're going to just say I'm not motivated.
I'm not motivated by money.
Okay.
I'm motivated things that by things that make me have.
happy. So that's why I quit that. Oh, I love that. Yeah. So, like, I quit that job. And I was like,
from now on, I'm not doing anything I don't want to do. And that's how I've been living.
I fucking love that. I'm actually the same way. People don't know this about me, but after my
tennis career, I went into sales at 22, cold calling. And that's some intense shit. And I was on
that, like, competitive grind. I'm very competitive. And I started making money. Like, I was 23,
and I was making money and cold calling, selling digital marketing.
That's where I learned a lot about digital marketing by selling it.
But then I realized how unhappy I was making so much money.
I was still living with my parents.
Like I didn't even need the money.
And I was just like, all I want is to never feel this emptiness in my soul again.
And that's how I transitioned to like doing marketing and then making videos.
And now I'm on my own too.
So it's a freedom that.
like money can't buy? Exactly. And even if you have a lot of money, you feel like you have
free time, is your brain really free? No. Like how do you find that piece of mind? Money can't
buy you peace of mind. Even though I had the best, like I thought at the time it was the best job. Like
I'm making memes all day and getting paid for it. Yeah. But like after a while, there was just so
much, there's a whole world out there. And I already had, I was at like, I think 300,000 or 400,000
followers. Cool. And I was already making, like I said, enough money to not have the job. So I just
bounced and then moved to L.A. for two months. Did you like L.A.?
Yeah, I still go there like once every month or once every two months. I have some work there
to do. Cool. And I worked on like music stuff there too. I love that you weren't like, I'm going to
make a viral meme account. These things happen organically. Like even my Twitter, I just like tweeted
some random things that went viral and then like had fun with it. I never was like, I want to make a
viral tweet. I just was fucking around my friends. And I remember sitting being like, I have so many thoughts that
I want to write down.
That was the only, like, process that came to me before starting a Twitter.
I love Twitter because, like, most of my real friends in real life aren't on Twitter.
So I could kind of, like, say whatever the fuck I want.
And no one's going to, like, be like, yo, dude, what are you saying?
Yeah.
Like, none of my friends are on there to call me out on, like, why do you keep tweeting about
that guy who goes to do last week?
Exactly, yeah.
And then my Twitter people are like, oh, fuck that dude.
And they don't know that, like, I was an asshole.
Exactly.
Exactly. Like, same thing with me. Like, I'll tweet some, like, really sad shit. And, like, people, I don't know that I think are funny also will like it or whatever. It doesn't, like, Twitter doesn't matter to me. I have literally 50,000 tweets. Yeah. I've been on it for 10 years.
Holy fuck. Yeah. I started in August, I think.
So there was my first one where I was like, okay, I can, like, maybe I'm funny. Yeah. And it's funny because with humor, there's, like, the loud, crazy humor. And then there's people who are just, like, witty or, like, more internet funny. Also, people are like, I love internet friends.
thought internet friends was so weird because it's like who do i want to open up to on the internet
but funny internet friends are great because they're literally just people connecting over laughing
like i have so many people that will write funnier shit back to my funny shit that i'm like i like
you and you bond over this just like commonality of laughter right which is not it's not like we're
like opening up about our deepest darkest secrets and sometimes you don't need that for bonding
and connection and happiness i could do that with like one of my weird close friends that i know so
you're kind of killing the game right now like you got your music you're on my podcast which is a huge
deal yeah you're about to hit a million followers you should throw a party but what's your like
biggest insecurity physically emotionally what is stuff that like naggs you about yourself
well i just lost like 50 pounds holy shit yeah so like my insecurities have gone down but then
i started dating once i lost like 50 pounds i was like because i haven't been dating really since i'm
like 25. I've just been so busy in this like internet thing. How old do you now? I'm 20 I don't want to say
I just don't want to so no it's okay I'm in my late 20s yeah so did you not date because you were
busy with your career or because you were insecure or both well it was both like my career kind
of distracted me from that I just didn't feel like I was also in the right place like on the mental
level to date I feel like you have to be like financially like um confident in yourself not necessarily
rich but just like happy with what you have and so not in terms of like I'm going to go on a date
and be able to afford it it's more like I feel like I could provide if I had to exactly like I'm not
I'm not into like I'm like trying to get married at this point you're not I am oh you are I mean
I'm not like trying to like I'm not dating like crazy you're dating to meet the right person exactly
I'm just not dating for fun anymore pretty much oh it's adorable but it's because you're kind of
feeling more confident in who you are that and also
so I'm just like um I don't know I can't explain it I just know like I just know what I want at the end of
the day what do you want I'm not playing games so do you want what kind of girl are you looking for
I don't really have any like specific things that I like about any girls I just like meet friends all
the time and I'm usually friends with the girl before we start dating cool when was your last
relationship um I had like a small thing in the summer okay with a little smirk on his
face. Yeah, it didn't end well, so. Yeah. But it's great that you're putting yourself out there again. Yeah. What's it like
dating after losing 50 pounds? Do you feel like you're your new person or do you sometimes forget and
feel like you still have that 50 pounds? I definitely feel like a lot more confident just like in
every way. But I also like when I was younger, I used to date, but it was so different when you're like
20 or like 22. Like you're not thinking about anything besides like sex. Yeah, marriage.
is not in the cards yeah so when i was younger like i never like dated with intent of anything i just
like went with the flow most of the time yeah so now i'm kind of just like you're really sifting through
yeah like i'm not like wasting any time it's funny because i think when guys are in the early 20s
they're thinking about sex girls in your early 20s you're thinking about how do i make in my boyfriend
which is why like shit never works because those are two completely opposite goals yeah and sometimes
the guy would be like well if i date her i'll get a lot of sex and sometimes the girl will be like
like, I'll have sex, so he'll want to date me, and then it might work out.
Right.
Yeah, my early 20s, I, a boyfriend was, like, a gold medal to me.
Like, I felt like it added validation to me to be like, but then I got this boy toy.
And I think recently after, like, a bunch of heartbreak, shit that fucked me up, for the first time, I feel like I don't need that, like, metal.
Right.
And I don't care to have a boyfriend anymore.
I'm either going to meet my partner or, like, I don't give a fuck to deal with boy toys who fuck me up or I fuck them up.
That's my mentality pretty much.
Yeah.
Like, I'm not going to say I've been dating, like, a lot, but I also keep in mind I haven't, like, really ever dated as, like, a normal person.
Yeah.
You know?
And just, like, everything is so different now, like, when I was younger, sex was always good.
And now sometimes you can, like, be with a girl, and it's bad, and it's, like, neither of your fault.
When was the last time that you were depressed?
What day was that?
Thursday night?
I saw, I don't know, I did a little creeping.
On your ex?
Yeah, it doesn't matter.
I mean, I like, I have him on mute, but sometimes you just, like, see that she liked something and you end up on her profile.
Also, if you've mutual friends, like, it'll just pop up.
Thankfully, I don't.
That's good.
I mean, except the friends that she made through me.
True.
I had to unfollow some people because they were friends with my ex, and then when I followed them back, when I kind of got over it, they were like,
Why'd you want to follow me?
And I was like, you've got to respect my mental health.
Like, you're posting shit with my ex-boyfriend.
And, like, I just don't want to see that right now.
Yeah, that makes sense.
But for when you break up with someone, where would you see them?
Now it's literally any second you could look at them.
So it takes so much self-control.
Yeah.
When you date, do you ever tell them about your massive meme page?
Like, when do you drop that?
I think for the most part, I'd rather not.
Because bitches love memes.
Yeah, I just rather not.
I'm, like, really, like, humble.
kind of guy and I'd rather not like be celebrated in person like that I don't know I love that
I don't I bring it up only if it comes up but it's not like it usually ends up being the topic of
conversation and I just don't want it to be it's cool though because you that's not the
like reason you want her to feel connected or attracted to you yeah it's time for a first game
it's called instomosity how long do you think you spend on Instagram a day my I
phone says I spend nine hours a day. Is that true? Yeah. Oh my god. Well yeah, I'm running five pages so I need
to be on it all day. Do you feel like you ever take like give yourself breaks for your health or you're kind of just
used to it? Yeah, it's kind of like at midnight in like New York time I'll tap out. That's my tap out time.
When do you tap in? I'll tap in the earliest 9.30, 10 a.m. That's good. If you were going to say like
6 a.m. you wake up, I'd be like you're a fucking maniac. No. I used to be like really.
really good at waking up, but the last few months, my, because I've been going to L.A. so much that my
sleeping schedule just slowly moves down. And little by little, now I'm waking up, like, at 11, but
I feel like that's New York City success when, like, you don't like L.A., but you have to go because
of your business. I mean, I love it. I have, like, a whole life there because of the internet.
I've never been to L.A. I'm going to go for the first time in a couple months to some press,
but I've never been. I just talk shit about it. Yeah, it's like the social media mecca.
I heard that you get in an Uber and the Uber driver tells you to follow him on Instagram.
Oh, my God.
Like, when I go to L.A., everything is free because I have followers.
That's fucking crazy.
Where in New York, they're like, hey, you're supposed to pay for your coffee.
That's 125.
What are you doing?
All right.
No one gives a fuck in New York.
I like that, though.
Yeah.
But then it's nice to get some perks, but I could see it driving you crazy eventually and, like.
Yeah, because people in L.A. would introduce me as, like, sunny side up.
Oh, you know him.
He has, like, a lot of followers.
Yeah.
I'm just like, don't, let's introduce me as sunny.
Like, let's say he doesn't, let's say they don't know the account.
It's kind of awkward.
And I don't think, I don't expect anyone.
It's all social climbing.
And, like, that people go there to climb.
That's why I don't like that whole vibe, like, where someone I'm friends with is introducing me as sunny side up.
So he could gain clout points.
Yeah.
And it's just like.
It's like this point system that everyone's aware of and they've accepted.
But it's nice to go in New York where no one gives a fuck.
Yeah.
In New York, it's also like, oh, you're not cool.
because you have a lot of followers.
Or yeah, it's corny if you go around, like, fawning it.
It's kind of like my high school.
If you were wearing stuff that everyone else was wearing, people would think you're lame.
But if you, like, walked in with, like, a tutu and, like, boots on, people were like, that girl's fucking cool.
Right.
But not all of America's like that.
No.
Which is crazy.
Yeah.
What makes you delete a photo besides just, like, what are the various reasons why you delete a photo?
And how long will it take you to delete it?
When I first started, I used to give it five minutes.
And now I kind of give it like I'll give it like a half hour an hour
I'll try to get it like up to a certain amount before the hour
And then I'm just cool with it
It's funny with the algorithm sometimes I'll post and it'll be like okay
And then it'll get a second like rev
Which is interesting and it's important to notice those things
Because then you could delete stuff that shouldn't be deleted
Right I try to own my shit
Yeah
But I also run my stuff by friends beforehand
Do you have any friends that are like very honest with you
The thing is if I run it by my name
meme friends they're all going to be like oh hell yeah sick yeah if i run it by my roommate like he's
like a normal person he has a normal job yeah it's like the most normal job you can ever have yeah
and i want to know his um opinion on it yeah because he doesn't make memes he's just like
a regular person on the internet he's a person that would be scrolling and you want their like
that's when i do the same thing because i don't run my stuff by any comedian friends i have one best
friend who's like not in the spotlight at all and she's just like very like she'd call her
of basic and I'm like do you think this is the funny shit you've ever seen and she's like yes but
she'll also say like no right exactly no my roommate too he'll be like I don't understand that and like
I don't think he's basic he's just like different than I am yeah like he's not in like an artist
community or anything like that yeah just like just like a regular job I mean I love him like
shout out to Elliot shout out Elliot my boy yeah I like grew up with him we're like best
friends it's it's important to have those people in your life that will tell you no yeah
That's, like, one thing someone told me about success.
Like, as you get bigger, don't surround yourself with yes people.
Exactly.
And that's, like, pretty much.
Like, look at what happened to R. Kelly.
Yeah.
Final question of insomosity.
Who are you jealous of on Instagram?
I'm jealous of the new small meme pages that are really good at graphic design and
Photoshop and 3D renderings.
Ooh, I haven't even seen 3D renderings.
I'll show you some wavy memes.
I can't wait to see.
They're like, yeah.
I want you to do.
Is there, like, one page you want to shout out for people to look at?
Every time I get this question, I always forget, like, my favorite ones.
And I always say, like, the same one.
I'm trying to think right now.
A recent new favorite.
I guess, like, this girl, Gary from Teen Mom is really good.
Oh, I post her stuff a lot.
I saw that.
Yeah.
There's this, some people, I don't know if they're a girl or a boy.
It's almost like it doesn't matter these days.
Exactly.
I don't care.
Who knows what they are anymore?
I'll post anyone as long as they're funny.
and non-problematic.
I just follow Gary from teen mom.
Yeah, she's hilarious.
There's also this guy, teenage stepdad I really like.
Cool.
And he does like all these retro, they look like 80s video games, like 3D style.
I love that.
I love that.
And they say like the funniest words on them that like a 12-year-old would say, you know?
I'm following these two.
Ooh, I love that vibe.
The internet is full of so many little niche things.
And I hope that listen to this podcast, like people.
people can see like you don't just have to follow fuck Jerry nothing against
fuck Jerry it's just that like you can find your own shit now for people listening
who want to be entrepreneurial on Instagram do you have any advice for like
meaming or starting a page first advice is to do it a lot and do it every day and
never stop because if you like a lot of people will DM me they'll post one meme
that they didn't even make they'll DM me and they'll be like hey I just started a meme
page can you give me a shout out dude even if I did
give you a shout out you wouldn't get any followers you wouldn't even if you did get followers you
wouldn't be able to keep them there yeah like you have to have at least like a couple of like
maybe 30 or 40 posts up for people to it's funny people hit me up to all the time and they'll be like
you tag me and it's like you can get 3,000 clicks from my profile from an insta story and when people
go to your page and they don't like what they see they're not following you exactly so like
it's almost like actors or actresses who were like I just need a big break and it's like if
right now I was the casting director are you ready right
Right, exactly.
Get fucking ready.
Exactly.
Because opportunities are going to come all the time.
Exactly.
But get your shit ready.
If they, if they DM me, let's say they had zero followers, but they have 40 posts and they
made every single one of them, I would look through them.
I would actually like, oh, they're actually trying.
Yeah.
But when you don't even try.
Do you recommend posting every day?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, it depends.
I start posting every day.
Yeah, it depends what kind of page you are.
If you're more of a personal page, it's harder to turn out content all day.
Yeah.
I would understand.
But I find it harder to post photos of myself than tweets.
Like, I have all my tweets lined up.
I'm so excited.
If you were, like, pick a photo of yourself to post, I'd be, like, squirmish.
That's why it's, like, it's, like, harder to post content every day if it's pictures of you.
Yeah.
And I'm not, like, insecure about my face or anything.
I'm more, like, insecure about the idea of posting myself for affirmation from people.
Give me a compliment.
And it's like, I'm fine with getting compliments, but I don't want to ask for compliments.
Right.
What has your trajectory been like?
Like, has it been steady or has it recently, like, slowed down because the algorithm?
them was it really fast in the beginning or slow in the beginning um i guess generally it's pretty
slow if i compare it to like other people that started where i am and where they are now it's been
slower but i think it's mainly because i post a lot of original content and not everyone wants
my original content and it's a lot safer if i just post other people's content that i know
already did well but uh for sunny side up i don't i mean it is for followers
but I'm not like counting every follower and like hoping that like I reach like so much because it's really more about the branding and like yeah it's like enjoying the journey and not constantly like even like when I brought it one million you're like yeah whatever yeah because I have another account that's already like way over a million like I made a bunch of side accounts so I can kind of have other accounts that I can use to like um do you recommend having multiple accounts I mean I recommend anything you can do I just do the most yeah
Every day I wake up, I post about, like, 40 posts a day between all the pages.
Do you schedule a lot, or is it hard?
Nothing. Everything's right there.
Wow.
I don't have any plan.
I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow.
And that doesn't give you anxiety?
It's been giving me anxiety recently because I met someone who, like, I kind of, he was
kind of like, someone I looked up to for a really long time.
Like, he's a really big producer, DJ kind of guy.
And he was just, like, asking me questions.
It was weird.
he was like, what is your five-year plan?
Like, what do you?
And I'm like, I don't know.
And it started to get me thinking, like, where do I take this?
There's no road that's already paved for me to go because most of these big.
This is a new thing.
Exactly.
Like, all these big accounts, like, they all make a lot of money, but most of them aren't making content.
And they didn't, like, I'm not hating on them, but they didn't gain their followers, like, with their own content.
Were there any big accounts that helped you?
Like, they were sharing you?
All the big ones.
Yeah.
I mean, I know fuck Jerry before he was big.
Yeah.
And right around the time when he was getting to a million,
I was like making a lot of content and I was sending him a lot of content that I found.
And he would credit me and he got me like my first, I think it was about up to like 50,000 maybe.
That's awesome.
And that's when he stopped like crediting me all the time.
What the fuck?
Why do you stop?
It's cool.
Like it doesn't matter.
Yeah.
Like I didn't need anyone.
Yeah.
I didn't need it.
I think you have to have that attitude because like when people started cutting off the names off my tweets.
I lost my shit in the beginning.
I freak out.
But then I started happening so often that I was like,
I can either live my life constantly trying to murder everyone's family for doing that.
Or I can just chill out and be like onto the next tweet.
Like I'm already making new shit while other people are sharing my old shit.
Like I don't care.
I look at it is a good thing.
Honestly.
You have to have that outlook.
Yeah.
I see like sometimes I'll see a meme I made like two years ago or four years ago.
I'm like, wow.
This thing like.
It lived.
Sometimes they don't last that long memes, you know?
But sometimes like if you write about it.
the right subjects that aren't always like current events yeah you can the meme will be good that
evergreen shit can live forever exactly that's why it's your legacy that's kind of like most of the
memes that I make are kind of like they'll do good in a year from now like you work hard to credit
people yeah I it's really hard to credit everyone because you don't know where shit comes from
sometimes but and sometimes I'll find someone's really good tweet and then they have no like
Instagram in their bio and I have to turn into a fucking inspector gadget but I try to do it
because, like, I just want people to be happy and, like, no one to.
You don't need, like, be for no reason if you could easily just do one Google.
Yeah.
But it's funny when you said the five-year plan and stuff, I'm going to throw this out there.
I think having a five-year plan could actually add anxiety and, like, prevent you from doing as well as you could.
Yeah.
Like, it's, like, putting a scoreboard where it doesn't have to be.
It's almost, like, putting a glass ceiling on shit.
Like, I want to have the attitude of, like, I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm
working hard and the sky is the limit.
But if you're like, I want to reach this, I feel like it's almost like for creatives,
it's putting yourself in a box.
Yeah, I think he was kind of more like, not how many followers do you want to have?
He was kind of like, where are you going to take all this?
Yeah.
He wants you to start like being more.
Like start thinking about the future and like, do you want to like start this kind of
business?
Because he was telling me about like all kind of businesses that he started that I didn't
even know about.
Because it's like leveraging your followers, whether it's like inviting them to like music
festivals or like, do you feel like you have.
have a good community that you fostered or it's like a bunch of random people well it's definitely a bunch
of random people and but i think like the way that i grew my account was just posting about these
niche things that i like and i just want the following of those niche things it would be sick
to merge like your people and music and doing like a music festival fun event maybe like stand-up comedy too
yeah that would be cool i've done a few like different kind of events and it was great that's sick i love when
you take online to offline and then you're just like fuck everyone who says that
millennials just like the internet it's like no it can create communities offline yeah
we're gonna finish with a game seven deadly sins what are you greedy about I don't know if I
am greedy about anything you think you're not greedy about anything no I have a question yeah why do you
think you gained so much weight to begin with yeah um i think it was just over time like not thinking
about it and not caring about myself enough to like do something about it why weren't you caring
about yourself was it like a self-hate thing no i think it was just like sometimes you're like
overweight but you're not overweight enough that you're like you're having health problems so you're
kind of like in this in between space yeah you don't really like you don't really look at yourself
in the mirror it's funny because the male mind is so different with it like
like girls could be like I'm clearly not what society says is thin where like dudes could be
like whatever yeah it was just like whatever like it wasn't I didn't see it affecting my life
and it wasn't affecting my life at all because dating wasn't like as important to you or like yeah
I mean I was like with girls or whatever it was never like an issue getting girls for me
even though I'm kind of shy and not like the yeah but you have swag you're from Brooklyn
type you know yeah also like I'm a huge donor yeah like I smoke this is like the only time
It's like the first time I'm not high and probably like a long time.
How's it feel?
It feels good, actually.
I'm kind of liking it.
I mean, I did smoke today, but I didn't smoke right before.
Okay, okay.
It's funny.
I love potheads, but I can't handle pot.
The thing is, if you don't do it every day, all day, and you just do it like once a week, you get too high.
And then you're like, I hate this.
I would do it once every six months and I'd freak out.
You can't do it like that because you get way too high.
I get so paranoid.
But if you're like, if you're,
doing it every day you're kind of always just like in the middle yeah you know and it's like it
becomes like just like a little sedative i used to do um i always used to be prescribed to adderall
yeah and i didn't like the way it made me felt jittery yeah at the end of the day like my hands
were always sweaty and i was getting work done and i was very productive but at the end of day
i felt like shit yeah wait what's your nationality um my mom is egyptian and my dad is persian
you're exotic as fuck yeah i'm like a middle eastern jew uh weirdo
Or, like, prints.
Yeah.
Who are you envious of in general?
Not just meme accounts.
I don't know because I, the older I get and, like, the more popular online I've gotten, I've met, like, everyone I ever looked up to.
Once you, like, spend time with them and you realize, like, I always wanted to be, like, a huge, like, musician or something.
And once you spend time with them and realize that it's not always so awesome, you kind of like...
Well, you're like, oh, they're living the same life that I am.
They're putting their right foot in front of their left foot and walk down the street.
Except they still have to, like, go on an airplane every day and do this and do that.
And it's just like...
Yeah, you think the life is like...
You think it's fun going on an airplane to another city every night and going to a hotel room by yourself?
No, it's lonely as fun.
It's not fun.
Who's one of the big people that you've met?
I don't want to, like, name drop, but I've been a fan of Skrillex since I was like 15.
Before he was Scurlex, he was in this band from first to last, and I was a fan of the band.
Yeah, I hung out with him because we had like a mutual friend.
Uh-huh.
And it was just really fun, really good day.
So it was like a legit hang.
Yeah.
That's fun.
I don't want to like name drop or anything.
No, it's okay.
I force you too.
He's also really not like, like he doesn't like being on TMZ.
No.
No, so it's like.
You guys are similar like that.
I just don't want him to be mad that I name dropped it.
Oh no, it's okay.
He probably won't hear this.
One side.
Oh no, he definitely listens.
I don't really get starstruck, but I was teaching tennis after college to like rich people out in the Hamptons.
And once they were like, oh, this girl is.
Chelsea's going to come to play doubles and I was like fuck another person I have to teach no one warned me
this is annoying and it was Chelsea handler and I legit played two hours of tennis with her and I'd read
both her books and I don't even read books and I was like it was incredible well I didn't just meet her
and shake her hand like I played tennis with her and at the end I asked her one question I was like
do you have any advice for like my career and she was like I got lucky and I was like oh yeah like
She was the same person.
She was funny.
She was cool.
And then afterwards you realized, like, damn, we're all living the same life.
When was the last time you experienced wrath?
Because you seemed like a pretty chill dude.
Probably around the time that last relationship was ending.
So it ended like a little tumultuous?
That's a big word.
Yeah, that was a big word.
I don't know where that came from.
Yeah.
It's sometimes things are dragged out for no reason.
It's like that Dane Coke joke where it's like we could end it right now peacefully or wait five years and end it
violently. Right. It wasn't five years
thankfully. It was the whole
situation was only like a month
and a half or two months. Yeah, but sometimes
if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be.
For like four months after. Well, they say it takes
half the time with the relationship to get over
it, but that's some bullshit. It depends on the
situation. It was double for me. I know people
who have you like a toxic relationship, it could take
fucking years. I mean, it wasn't even
toxic, so it was just like, everything was
good and then she was just like was... She was out.
Yeah. Yeah, that will fuck you up too.
because there's no logic behind it we didn't even get to know each other yeah but it doesn't
matter i just you're like i'm over it i try to just say like if it's meant to be you can't fuck it up
exactly and like if it got fucked up wasn't meant to be that's like the only way you could
i didn't like survive in your head bother her or do weird shit i was just like you're like i just
post memes about her every day not even like with her name she doesn't the great thing about
this is that she didn't even follow me that's great on on that account on sunny side up
She didn't like Sunny Signup.
Ew.
No, it's cool.
Why didn't she like it?
No, it just wasn't her.
I like that.
I've legit knock on a second date with a guy because he didn't think my Twitter was funny.
No, she thought I was funny in person.
Yeah.
But she was just like not, she was like some people are like different.
Like I didn't take it personal.
I didn't care at all.
But I want my person to have the same humor as me.
Even if they're like not necessarily into the whole Instagram thing.
Yeah.
That's actually better.
Like I don't really love guys who cared too much about Instagram.
But I want them to like respect.
it and get it. Right. She respected my other ones a lot, like this other one that I have.
Okay. It was cool. The secret one. Yeah. When was the last time you were a sloth? Like, do you ever
get lazy and like not post one day? Oh, no way. No, never. The only day I don't post is Yom Kippur.
Do people ever get annoyed at you for being on your phone? In person? Yeah. I don't care. Like,
most people who hang out with me know what I'm doing on my phone. Do your parents care? I mean, in the
beginning when I wasn't making money yeah I mean actually they always thought of it as something that
like they knew that I wasn't good at anything else so they know but you're good at music yeah I'm good at
music so they they put me in music school too I mean I paid for it but they still like approved yeah
like they would were down were they like immigrant parents who wanted you to be like a lawyer or
something they didn't want me to be a lawyer they are immigrant parents so yeah so both of them
um had to escape from where they were to wow yeah
Like refugees.
So you really are living the American dream.
Yeah.
Like Chelsea Handler, I got lucky.
It's amazing.
You and Chelsea are pretty similar.
Right.
When was the last time you let your pride get in the way of something?
I guess there's this kid that's involved in a project that we were like a bunch of meme accounts we're working on.
And like two months ago, he posted a meme that was like completely making fun of my account.
And like I never like tweeted about it.
I never said anything about it because I don't want to be like that loser who like.
Like, I have so many followers.
Yeah.
And it's just going to look...
Like, not even 10,000.
Yeah.
And it's just going to look dumb if I'm just like, oh, like, fuck you.
He's just trying to get your attention.
Yeah, exactly.
So I never, like, said anything.
But then I realized, like, why do I even...
Like, today I was thinking about it.
Like, I was thinking about going into the group chat and being like, I'm not involved
unless that guy leaves.
Oh, shit.
Yeah.
And then I was like, because I know they would all be down still because they all have, like,
but it doesn't matter.
But then I was thinking about it this morning.
I was like, why the fuck do I care?
Like, I'm the joke guy.
Yeah.
I can't take a joke now.
Yeah.
Like, and then I, today I also saw like.
But you know, the thing is, like, he's being petty and as guys, you're like, oh, it's just a joke.
But like in girl world, it's like, fuck that bitch.
She's being petty.
No, I was, I was like very pissed, honestly, like, because I'm, you probably heard a little.
Like I told you.
Because it's not funny.
It's not a joke.
He was trying to come at you.
Exactly.
I'm one of these people that, like, help the little guys all the time.
Yeah.
And like, if I like something and if someone dams me, hey, can you credit me?
Yeah, I'll credit anyone if they made it, you know?
He's jealous of you.
And I'm always that guy who's, like, not a dick to anyone.
Yeah.
You know?
I knew, like, one of my friends was talking shit, like, that I post tweets on Instagram.
And I'm like, I hate, like, not a lot of people make fun of that.
But I've heard people talk.
And I'm like, where do you think every fucking meme that you like on Instagram is from?
A fucking tweet.
Yeah.
So, like, me posting on Instagram is not some crazy thing that's bullshit.
Right.
When was the last time you lusted over someone?
All the time.
What do you mean?
What do you do to call?
cope with your hell. Like, what advice would you give people who are currently in hell right now?
Don't lie to yourself. Surround yourself with no men.
With what? With no men, not yes men.
Oh, I wonder, like, get men out of your life? I'm like, fuck it, men are trash.
I'm really on the men are trash wave. I just want to talk about this for a second.
Yeah, because I get DMs. I mean, it's the same. I look at it as the same way. Like, a guy is
DMing a hot girl on Instagram, he wants ass or he wants something out of it. A guy's
DMing me on Instagram he still wants something
so I still get the same aggressive energy
so I still get the same like entitlement
and like people will like send me a meme
they'll be like make sure you credit me like bro
you didn't even make this meme do you get
a different type of communication from
women like most
women won't DM me like just memes
it's like a dude messaging me just being like hey and I'm like
stop and he goes follow me and then I'm like
no and he's like what the fuck's your problem bitch
and I'm like sorry right
like I don't want to I also I don't
open most DMs because I just don't want to open the floodgates because I want my DMs to be
for me when I want like yeah I don't want any DMs also DMs stress me out they're like checking
your email yeah I don't want I want there I don't like the one to be there I'm very like ohcd
about notifications cleanse your energy from yes men your issues and problems get them addressed
yeah and on that note thanks for coming to hell with me yes are we going to burn now or
yeah now we just set the studio on fire
Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha ha ha ha ha.
