Hi, it's Hannah Burner.
And Des Bishop.
Thanks for calling the burner phone.
If you leave a message after the tone,
we may have to make it into a podcast.
Hello, our little dialers, and welcome back to Burnafone.
It's Des and Nicole here.
Nicole is in her apartment with her dog by her side.
If you hear any, if you hear any licking, annoying licking sounds.
It's Nicole's dog.
And I am in the addition hotel in West Hollywood.
By the time this comes out, I won't be here.
So I won't be worried about any weird fans.
Not that I'd be worried about that anyway, by the way.
But I'm at the edition.
West Hollywood. Bad Wi-Fi. So I apologize if we have any dropouts. And it's great to be here. I'm here on a press tour.
Are you familiar with the Jeff Lewis show, Nicole?
I don't think so.
I wasn't either. But it turns out that it's like a whole, it's like a whole world that their followers are called chumps.
And, you know, when I got announced that I was going to be on that, I got so many messages.
just like, oh my God, I can't believe you're going to be on Jeff Lewis.
Like really dedicated fan base.
And I did it yesterday.
Went well, thank God.
I was worried, you know, because it's like gossipy kind of stuff, you know.
But I got away with it.
And he seemed to like me.
I mean, he's gay.
So I think that helps, you know?
And so if anyone listened to me on Jeff Lewis, welcome.
Welcome to the pod.
I didn't promote the pod, though, but maybe, just maybe we'll get some new listeners.
Um, I, you know, it's so annoying. Like this morning, I was like, oh, there's a couple of things I want to talk about. Like, things that have happened in this world. And now I've forgotten. But anyway, we have a great prompt today. Hannah suggested things that your 18 year old self would be embarrassed that you do today, which I thought was, uh, I thought was a good prompt. Great response to this. I did get a lot more.
annoying noises sent to me, but I'll bank them.
If we have time, we'll actually get to a few that were on the list last week.
But this one is actually, this one is a, this one is a good one.
So I guess we should just, oh, by the way, thanks to everyone for commenting on the special.
It's out now on YouTube as well as Hulu and over in Ireland.
You've got to get the number, the Irish numbers, they got to get up.
So if you're an Irish dialer, you got to get in the game.
And so let's go.
Things that you do today that embarrass you when you're 18.
But first, did you get a note on how you pronounce something?
Oh, sorry, that is what I wanted to do first.
Sorry.
Yes, correct, Nicole.
That is what I wanted to do first.
Please.
So I was just listening to the episode where you
asked a noise that bothers me.
A noise that bothers me is when Desmond
Bishop says compost
instead of comp,
comp, okay. So anyway, I just needed to get that
off my chest because that shit, that shit
was like, I don't know
what that shit was. That was not like
cringe. That was like nails on a chalkboard.
So,
have a good day.
All right, well, just for the record,
we can post this in the
not obviously it's not racist
but it's uh it's ethnically it's ethnic discrimination
because what she doesn't realize and this happens a lot in my marriage
where Hannah thinks that I say something wrong
but what she discovers is that it's pronounced differently
in the part of the world where the language was created
now you know that I'm not inclined to take the English
side. But it is the language named after their country. And an Irish accent, an English accent
are quite different. However, there's more similar in areas between Irish pronunciation and
British pronunciation than there is American pronunciation. And compost is the pronunciation
from the other side of the water. Okay? And just because in America, they have bastardized
numerous pronunciations doesn't mean that you are correct. However, you are absolutely
fine to find it nails on a chalkboard the way that other parts of the world pronounce words.
But I think you'll find that in this situation, you're going to have to need to open your mind a little bit to the way that things are pronounced on the other side of the world.
I'm also aware, by the way, that it's shocking because I have a New York accent, but then I have Irish pronunciations of words.
I get it. It's weird. But in this situation, you're going to have to be a little more tolerant
because it's not an incorrect pronunciation. It's how they pronounce it in another part of the world.
A more cultured part of the world, I might point out, a part of the world where you get health care,
all right? So maybe you should start composting and have a fucking public health system.
By the way, you know, Diler, that I'm absolutely joking with my anger. But yeah, it's funny.
Hannah sometimes laughs at me and I'm like, bro, it's just the way we pronounce it over there.
Yeah, I did clock it when you said compost, but I was like, that's for sure, like an Irish thing.
So I just tried not to laugh.
And I was like, so he talks.
He like, but it's like a select few words where you're like Irish time.
Yeah, there are.
And, and, and, and, but here's the thing.
I don't know which is which.
Do you know what I mean?
It sneaks up on me.
Sometimes you'll like slip out like a feckin.
instead of fucking.
Yeah.
Sometimes that like slides out when you're talking really fast.
Well,
feckin is the way that you get away with saying,
fuck.
That's where feckin came from,
you know?
Like you say feckin and you're not cursing.
You know what I mean?
Just so silly, really.
So,
but see,
a word like compost,
like nobody talked about composting
like when I was a child.
Like even compus things like that that's really has become a thing over the last 20 30 years, you know.
So because, you know, I moved to Ireland 1990.
So 36 years ago.
So that's a word that definitely became part of my vocabulary in my Irish years.
I say leisure too.
I can't say leisure.
I say leisure.
It has like a level of luxury to it, though.
I think that that's kind of like a fancy way to say it.
Really?
I like that.
But here's the thing, though.
Some words were changed in me by this level of shame coming the other way.
So when I first moved to Ireland, I experienced a lot of people making fun of the way I said certain things.
And over time, I adapted.
And now it's quite humorous to me that I'm getting it the other way.
However, I never said compost.
I always said compost.
but I definitely used to say leisure and then I changed to leisure.
And now leisure seems weird to me.
It actually seems harder to say.
So I say leisure.
And then I think I wouldn't actually say tomato.
But I think that's one of the ones that I change based on where I am.
It can be a fun game, like Peewey's Playhouse where like when I say an Irish pronunciation, well,
he's an Irish pronunciation?
What was the magic word?
Did you watch Pee Wees Playhouse?
or are you too young for that?
I really got in at the Peewee's Big Adventure era.
So that was like when he was already popping a little bit.
Yeah.
So,
yeah,
so I apologize.
Well,
I'm not apologizing.
It's the way I say compost,
all right?
So I don't apologize.
It was,
it was ethnically insensitive to leave this voice inel.
By the way,
I got called,
I got called racist.
for my Irish versus Italian bit by like Italians.
Well, highly, highly well received.
Yeah, quote unquote, but no, highly, highly, highly well received that bit,
mostly by Italian people saying that they love it.
They're Italian.
They're not offended.
But of course, but what makes me laugh is when somebody says racist,
I can absolutely understand if you think it's offensive, okay?
And literally the end of that bit is commenting about how like the G word is a strong word.
So being offended doesn't bother me.
But racism is not the word.
What would you say the word is for when you're like making fun of another culture of the same race?
You know, what would you say that is?
That's, and it's not xenophobia because it wasn't a case of like them living in your country.
There's another word for it.
And I can't remember what the word is.
But I guess it's not discriminatory.
I don't know what the word is.
But that's not the right word.
Is it just culturally insensitive?
Like, I don't know.
I don't know if there's like a more intense phrase for it, but like Italians,
specifically Jersey Italians love to pull the race card, quote unquote race card for themselves.
For Columbus death.
That's racist.
That's racist against Italians.
Oh, yeah, that's racist against Italians.
Oh, did you see the little Italy controversy?
Did you see the little Italy controversy?
No, what's that?
Well, it's funny because Mayor Adams, like a number of years ago, put out a map of ethics.
ethnic enclaves in New York, right?
Immigrants, sorry, immigrant enclaves, not ethnic enclaves,
immigrant enclaves, okay?
And Little Littily was included.
But of course, it wasn't a story.
But Mamdani, I guess, reposted it or it became a story
and basically saying Mammani did not include Little Italy in the immigrant enclaves.
And there was uproar, of course, and it was like,
this fucking momdani's trying to make us communist.
What about Little Littaly?
And on one level, first of all, it was, it's like one of those things, like an oversight.
It wasn't even his map.
But also, like, if you change the map to ethnic enclaves, then, of course, the littlely would be included.
But if you're actually talking about immigrant enclaves, little Italy is not an immigrant enclave anymore.
It's a historically immigrant enclave that has been preserved a small area to historically connect it to its past.
which I think is wonderful.
But it's no longer an immigrant enclave.
It's an ethnically Italian enclave, right?
And by the way, Woodlawn wasn't included.
And I promise you,
Woodlawn in the Bronx has more actual immigrants from Ireland
than Little Italy has immigrants from Italy today.
Actual immigrants, right?
But, you know, whatever.
With the Mamdani stuff, they're always going to blow it up.
But at the same time, I'm just like,
yeah, just fucking change it.
Who gives a shit?
But yeah, all the Staten Islanders were.
Staten Island was upset, you know?
What about fucking...
There was like a clip going around this guy.
He's like, this fucking guy, he's not even fucking from here.
You know, I'm like, bro, you're not even a fucking immigrant.
You're fucking...
I'm an immigrant.
I was born in another country.
Go fuck yourself.
Anyway.
So, uh, so, that, that kind of thing.
But, but, but, but, listen, the Italians, for the record, the Italians experienced
real discrimination when they first arrived in the United States.
you know so i'm not dismissing any of that and by the way that bit uses the word guinea which
its origins are actually quite nefarious you know but i'm trying to make a joke about how
we we bandied it about willy nilly that would be something hand hana would make fun of me for that
sentence but we banded it we banded it about willy nilly in the 80s and that's what that bit's about
and all the people that love that bit are like you know it's like a memory of like holy shit
that we did chuck that word around quite carelessly uh in our youth
So anyway, needless to say, we're not getting bad that of shape.
By the way, Diler, I think this message is hilarious, which is why I included it.
I'm not in any way, shape, or form upset that you're not cultured enough to know that the language has various pronunciations.
You know what I get made fun of a lot when I come back to the States these days?
Irish people use reckon, like very commonly.
And when I first moved to Ireland, I was like, reckon, you reckon?
You know, to me, that was like a southern thing.
You know, it's like, ah, reckon, things are a bit weird around here.
So, but now I say reckon all the time.
Like, do you reckon we should go?
And a lot of times people back here make fun of me.
Do you think reckon it's weird?
Um, I think that would be less of an eyebrow raised to me.
I, like, just because that is such like a Southern thing too, like, I don't know.
That wouldn't, that wouldn't catch me like compost, call me, you know?
But that did make me want to ask you, do you actually have a,
nails on a chalkboard word.
Like for me, that would be, I figured you might have a lot of these, but for me, that would
be when people say espresso instead of espresso.
Do you have something like this?
Well, this is, this could be another prompt.
No, this is next week's prompt.
Just for the record, everybody.
Nicole has landed on a great prompt.
What word do people say incorrectly that drives you and say, what a great prompt?
What a great prompt, Nicole.
You really.
I finally did it.
You've really, today.
is the day that you truly have arrived.
And it's also, it's perfect because it's like a really tiny, annoying thing that I can
already hear them getting so mad about.
So like, that's like really the heart of the prompts on this show.
Is something teeny tiny that drives you crazy?
That would make you angry enough to leave a voicemail where you sound really angry.
Yeah, espresso.
That doesn't drive me crazy.
It just makes me laugh.
Well, people hate the word moist.
I have a whole routine about it.
It doesn't bother me.
Honestly,
I don't,
I don't,
I don't,
I don't know if there's,
I,
I,
that would be ones where I would need the prompts to remind me.
You knew,
you knew straight away.
Yeah,
espresso versus espresso.
That one like definitely came to me,
but there's for sure other ones,
um,
that are like,
not as overt as that.
Like,
I'm trying to think there's definitely like,
miss,
uh,
said like phrases or
sayings are like nip it in the bud versus
butt like stuff like that that's like kind of
But it's nip it in the bud right? It's the bud.
The bud with a D.
Isn't it?
That's what you're saying?
Yeah, that's the, but I think that's the actual.
I think you're right. Yeah. That's the correct expression.
Yeah. Nip it in the bud. Yeah. I think it comes from gardening.
I feel like we googled that once.
Look it. Look it up. Nip it in the bud.
Look up the history of it because all the etymology.
It comes from gardening.
Etymology is so interesting.
There used to be this guy that come on the Sean Moncrief show back in Ireland.
Sadly, he's passed away now, but he was great at the origin of words.
It was so fascinating.
Like, I just, I wish we could get it.
I want to get an etymologist in.
Go ahead.
What is it saying?
It is nip it in the bud, and it does come from gardening.
It means to stop.
Okay, so you left.
Sorry, say that again.
No, I just laughed at the way you said it comes from gardening.
But that's just exactly what it says.
but just the way you said, it made me laugh.
So what did you say?
Like gardening in general.
Right before, okay, stop a problem early, right before, right when it starts before it can grow into a larger issue.
So a flower nipped in the bud is cut before it can fully blossom.
Hannah, like, Hannah's constantly making fun of me for, like, sayings that I just say really naturally that she's like, what?
Like, what are you saying?
Like, you know what I said recently?
She was like, what?
I said, a stitch in time saves nine.
And she was like, what?
And I was like, you don't know that?
I was like, no, I have to explain it.
The whole idea of saying that was, I was trying to be economical with words.
And now you're like, what?
Do you know a stitch and time saves nine, right?
Yes.
And I did remember what I was thinking of also.
Okay, go, go.
For all intensive purposes versus for all intense and purposes.
Oh, yeah.
Actually, I wouldn't be able to tell you, I would have said for all intense and purposes,
is there?
Not intensive.
You're correct.
Right.
So people say for all intensive purposes, for all intensive.
But I don't even know if this is like the same kind of subject,
but it's also stuff that is kind of annoying to me because you don't really notice
when people say it out loud, but when it's in writing, it's just so clear.
Yes.
Well, there's a lot of stuff.
Like, so here's the thing like, you know, when I'm doing clips,
I don't mind when I use the F word.
I use the F word a lot.
but on the on the subtitles i will always blank it out i like the word the word fucking writing
just seems more powerful to me than in speaking you know so i never leave it in in subtitles
it's interesting writing it just has more it's more embarrassing though when you write like
for intensive purposes uh so the one the one that got me that's not incorrect but just
like has shocked me and i feel like it's become more
popular. I always thought something is addictive, but Hannah says addicting. And a lot of people say
addicting these days. And I looked it up and it's also correct. But to me, it was like,
I never heard anyone say it's addicting until recent times. And I literally was in like recovery.
Like, addictive was always the word. But now it's addicting and addictive are both acceptable.
And if you Google it, it's I looked it up like it's grammatically correct. It's very addicting.
Anyway, that's next week's episode, right?
And so message us.
I love it when the message, when we have the prompt from the episode, you know?
And let's not forget our number, which let's not forget, as I say that, I literally have to go and like find it.
Even though I nearly know it's 917.
I got to go back in my messages.
where is it? Oh, fuck.
You got to save it in the old notes app.
It's in my notes, but my notes app is all fucking weird right now.
It's 9-17-512-1-7-58.
There it is.
And for international dialers.
No, hey, Nicole, if you've got to fucking read the number, do it properly.
Do it like a DJ.
Do it like a DJ or don't read it at all.
Go again.
I'll pass.
No, come on, Nicole.
It's your time.
I can't.
I don't know how to be a DJ.
I thought I did a really good job.
You read the number.
I thought I put some stank on it, but I guess my voice didn't change at all.
I was like, I killed that.
917-5-1-2-17-58.
And if you're messaging internationally, leave us a voice note on plus 1-646, 4-2-3-3-0-20.
We're back on Bird of Phone.
the way, I had a request come in on Instagram to do an entire episode in DJ voice.
This dialer, I think her name was Annabel.
She messaged in and she loved it.
In fact, I think we need to clip that the top five microwave mistakes.
I think we need to clip that, but I think that went down well.
It's always hard to know, you know.
But anyway, if you in...
Go ahead.
DJ voice episode should be when we do the live call-ins episode.
Oh, yeah, well, okay, yeah, let's go.
We got a caller in here.
You'll have to be in character.
You need the whole time.
We've got a caller in here from Tom's River, New Jersey.
You're live on Pernifone.
What's your point?
Honestly, is there anything, like, of all the things that give, of all the things that give me anxiety,
traditional radio, like, in Ireland, particularly, like, with callers,
particularly on, like, serious subjects.
or even like when politicians won't shut up
and like the host needs to wrap it up
and the fucking person won't stop talking
and the host you can hear the host being like
and oh and oh and they can't fucking wrap it up
that the person won't finish their fucking point
that gives me so much anxiety.
Anyway, give us a call 917512158-646
42372020 on the WhatsApp number
we're going to go to a dialer calling in here now.
Go ahead.
Our prompt, what?
What would you do today that would embarrass your 18-year-old self?
Hit us, Nicole.
And this is a great transition from Nipit in the Bud.
Something I do now that younger me would have thought was weird as hell.
I wake up in the morning and I water my plants and I fill up my bird bath and I cut up an orange for the birds and I bring out fruit and I deadhead some plants to decorate the bird bath.
And then I like watch for them.
And I have it set up right outside my window where I work.
So I can look at them all day along.
I love watching the birds.
And I don't have the Merlin app yet.
But I know this bird talk would actually get you talking about Merlin.
So I do think I'm going to download that soon.
All right.
Have a great day, guys.
Bye.
How can you not have the Merlin Bird app when you've got like a little bird family?
Even the fact that she knows to say Deadhead.
Like I only learned the word deadhead last year.
because Hannah and I, we did like a full garden,
like I got the landscapers in,
and we redid the whole thing.
And they were like,
oh, my guys are coming over to deadhead, all the plants.
And I was like, you're talking to me like,
I know what the fuck you're talking about.
I didn't know what deader,
but she was just like, and I deadhead.
That's great.
You know, that's real adulthood, man.
That's adulting.
You know, I've never set up a bird situation,
but I do enjoy, you know, when the birds come and hang.
you know do you do you enjoy it my version of that right now is we have a lot of stray cats in our
neighborhood and there are kittens do you like right around the block so everybody is feeding
and taking care of the kittens but they need to t-n-r then i know but like a lot of them i've seen
with like the little eartips so i know that they've all they're t-n-ard okay but this particular i mean
there's babies so somebody is out there who has
hasn't been Tienard.
Yes.
But they're really cute.
And they're orange kittens.
So they're very cute.
But why is the shelter,
why is the shelter not taking them in?
The babies.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Someone's going to have to call.
It might have to be me.
But,
yeah,
that's my version of watching right now.
Because Aiden's cat,
Seamus literally showed up at our door.
You know?
And then we trapped him in the garage and sent him to the shelter.
He got neutered and everything.
But then Aiden adopted him.
So he was like an actual like literally showed up at the door.
Like we actually rescued the cat.
Like in terms of like, it's a rescue.
It's a rascal.
But like Seamus actually was the one true rescue that just like rocked up stray,
covered in flees, hungry.
And yeah.
He has red hair.
Yeah, that's why we call him shame.
The cat distribution system.
Yeah, so we call him Seamus because he has red hair.
That's why.
That's a good name.
Yeah, Seamus is a great name for a cat or a dog, to be honest with you.
Shamas.
I like people.
Noghiel.
Right.
Yeah.
What's your dog's name?
Her name is Raspberry, but she came with that name and it was too funny to change.
So we kept it.
Okay.
I met a Chinese girl once when I was in Beijing in Renmin University.
This Chinese girl was like,
learning English. And she just stopped, like, random, like, stops me outside the shop in college.
And it's like, hi, do you speak English? I was like, yeah. And she's like, can I practice my
English with you? She just, like, wants to practice English. Random girl. So I was like, yeah,
of course. Hi. She's like, what's your name? My name's this. I said, what's your name? She goes,
apricot. Apricot. Because when they start learning English, they picked her own name. I was like,
why did you pick the name apricot? She's like, because I like apricots. It's like, that's not really how we do it,
but great name.
I love that.
Did you take a language in school?
I took Italian in freshman year of high school.
I failed.
Mr. La Cada character.
He showed us the godfather as part of our class
because he was from Howard Beach.
He's from Howard Beach.
It's like mafia love indoctrination.
Because he's literally from Howard Beach at the peak of the Gaddi era.
And then I took French in Ireland.
But, you know, I didn't.
love languages until I, you know, until I got into the, the comedy learning of the languages.
But in so in any of those classes in school, did they make you pick a name? Like for our Spanish
class, we had to pick Spanish names, which for some people, they just have a direct translation,
but Nicole doesn't have like a Spanish name. It would just kind of like have an accent. So I picked
Raquel as my name. Rachel. But then it becomes like an alter region. But then it becomes like an
alter ego.
I know.
It's bizarre.
It's weird we did that.
Somebody feels wrong about that.
In China, that all the
laway, like all the foreigners pick a Chinese name.
So had I not been given a Chinese name by the Chinese family that I was living with,
which was a much better name of Han Sheng, which, you know, is like, like has meaning,
they would have called me
De Se.
So it's like
Dess, like Dessu.
Because, you know, there's like a S.
The problem is that S also means like death.
So De S is like a bad name.
Because like David always becomes Da Wei, you know?
And like Melanie would become like
Meili.
You know, so like there's just like,
I'm glad that I got Han Shung,
which has meaning directly connected to me.
But Raquel,
is like, I'm not happy with who I am and I'm trying to have like, I'm trying to create a whole new
personality.
Well, I was like, well, this name is like the coolest one.
What about like Nicoletta?
That wasn't an option.
Really?
I don't know what the, what the guidelines were, but yeah, a lot of people, their name was
that was in Spanish?
A translation in my Spanish.
In Spanish?
Yeah.
So I was Raquel for whatever reason, but leave in the Spotify comments if you also had a
Spanish name in your class. Yeah, that's funny.
That had nothing to do with your real name.
All right, well, let's take another one.
Hi, does.
10,000 percent, what my teenage self would be embarrassed by is wearing granny panties 24-7,
giant underwear lines in my yoga pants, wearing pads and says handpons,
all the Hannah-coated stuff.
I would have cringed at that in middle school.
and there's no doubt that that's what I'm doing these days.
Amen.
I mean, I've never understood the, you know, like the amount of uncomfortable things women do for beauty, I don't get it.
You know, that's a very Hannah thing, the granny penny thing.
That's like a Hannah, it's part of her identity.
Like she likes granny panties.
What's your, do you have a preference of undergarment, Nicole?
Um, if I'm like at home, it would be granny panties or nothing. If I'm out and about, it would be, I guess, like, a thong, but I only wear like athletic type material. But it all kind of suck. Like, it's funny that we are all cool and have accepted like, it's not like, if you see my bra strap, why do you care so much? Like, I'm obviously wearing a bra. So like, why do you care? Like, this becomes such a good.
so why do we, I don't know why we still weirdly care about the panty line.
Yeah, why do we care?
Your bra showing is fine, but your underwear showing is not okay.
So, I don't know what's up with that.
But also, what about you?
What's your preference?
Well, I'd be free baller most of the time, but that's not like really a preference more than just like, I like, I forget.
No, I just, you know, I don't know.
I just got out of the habit of wearing underwear.
And it's just, like, really handy because I don't have to fucking worry about clean, you know.
So the only time I wear underwear these days is like if I'm wearing trousers with an uncomfortable material, you know, which might just like irritate me.
But again, you know, it doesn't need to be discussed in detail, but I'm not circumcised.
So I don't have to worry about the level of chafing, perhaps, that a more exposed appendage might have to deal with, you know?
So anyway, I commande almost at a time.
And it's absolutely...
Well, I don't wear jeans anymore.
I bought, I went to, I bought like one pair of jeans that, like, a little bit I wore.
And like, with jeans, I do want to wear underwear, 100%.
But I just don't really wear jeans anymore.
And most of the time these days, I'm wearing Lulu Lemon trousers, which are, like,
Lulu Lemon does not promote their men.
men's clothing enough. Because it is amazing. And I'm aware that Hannah has a deal with Lulu Lemon,
but I am speaking as somebody that does not have a deal with Lulu Lemon. I'm speaking as somebody
who am a Lulu Lemon deal adjacent. And as a result, found out very late in my life that Lulu
Lemon does menswear. And it's incredible. And I don't care. People can complain all they want.
Sounds like a promo. It's men need to know that the Lulu Lemon pants are so good.
I literally wore them on television this morning in L.A.
Like, they look super elegant, but they couldn't be more comfortable.
And I can't praise them enough.
So here's a question.
Are you getting rewarded for paying your rent or mortgage right now?

I love their recommendations.
They always say what to accessories with, which cute silver or golds,

Guys, we love Butcher Box.
I told you a couple of weeks ago that I messed up
and I forgot to change my Butcher Box subscription
to this house.
Well, guess what?
I got a delivery this week.
I actually, just right now,
cooked the most amazing skirt steak on the grill for Hannah,
husband of the year.
Hannah's mom brought over cucumber
that she had grown in her own garden, and Hannah chopped up to cucumber, made a beautiful cucumber
salad, we had skirt steak, cucumber salad, and some peas. Not that exciting, but we love peas.
Anyway, all I'm saying is, when Butcher Box is come to the house, everything runs smoothly
because you don't end up looking in the fridge and going, oh, my God, there's nothing to eat.
Well, that happens to me a lot. And Butcher Box solves that because I always know I've got something
in the freezer. Once I have that subscription coming to the right house,

So my little dialers, this is Des.
numerous days since the abrupt ending of that episode. So let me explain. I was in L.A. when we
recorded that episode and the hotel I was staying at, which unfortunately I did name at the beginning
of this episode, just the Wi-Fi was very poor. And for some reason, the audio on the last 18 minutes
of what we recorded just did not upload.
And we have discovered now late on Sunday night that we cannot retrieve this audio.
Now, maybe we will be able to retrieve it in the future.
But for now, I mean, listen, it wasn't that bad.
We had a half hour of an episode.
They're a very good episode.
Very good prompt.
Nicole, who's not with me right now, but she's going to play out some of the prompts we
didn't get to.
And I promise you, I will do everything to get this audio.
And we can continue to chat about this.
prompt. If you hear this, keep messaging in.
And we'll continue the discussion next week.
Needless to say, I was really enjoying the episode. I'm not saying that there was anything
particularly golden that came out in that last 18 minutes. But my recollection was I was
pretty happy with it, to be honest with you. So let's not be too despondent. It's only
18 minutes. And such a great prompt. So many good messages that came in.
Nicole will play out a few more, and we'll be back next week.
As always, message in with the future prompts that you might like.
Hannah sent me a great list recently, so we're actually going to be, we're going to be locked and loaded for quite a while.
I should be saying next week's one right now, but I didn't actually have the list that she sent me right in front of me.
But incredible.
Actually, you know what?
Let me just check in my notes.
did I perhaps write it in?
But I don't think I did.
And I didn't.
So, anyway, love you guys.
Miss you guys.
Han and I just came back from a beautiful Amakasi dinner.
Omikaze, perhaps.
Japanese sushi, just absolutely lovely.
out in West Hampton
and I came back to discover this news
about the audio, which is
very sad. And it's not Nicole's fault, by the way.
So let's not be thinking that Nicole made any mistakes.
So we'll talk to you next week.
Send me some messages.

Something that I would
cringe at if
Teenage Me found out I was doing now
Would be
Sitting on the back porch
crocheting and
identifying
Bird calls
Anyways
Hi Des
So something I do now
That my teenage self
would be embarrassed by.
And just to be clear, my current self is also a little bit embarrassed about this.
But every time my husband brushes our cat, he adds her fur to this ball that he started
about a year ago.
So it started out as just like a tiny little like ball of fur.
And now every time he brushes her, he adds to it.
So now the fur ball is about the size of like a large mango.
and it's hidden away so if people come over, they don't see it,
but sometimes we have like a little show and tell
and we might show people, and it's quite embarrassing.
Yeah, it's kind of gross.
We also have a bowl of her whiskers because we just love our cat
and I never had a pet before meeting my husband.
So the things we do for our pets.
Hey, this is Jason calling about something I do today
that my teenage self would be,
embarrassed by I am the proud owner of a Toyota Prius a fuel-efficient hybrid looking back my
teenage self if I knew I had a fuel-efficient four-door hybrid car I'm sure my
teenage self would just be not only embarrassed but thickened by the
very thought, especially since I was kind of a 90s sports car, two-door, non-fuel-efficient kind of person.
Something I do today that would embarrass my teenage self is save Tupperware containers
and not like the ones you buy, like once that yogurt comes in and rent and solid dressing, whatever.
And I used to think it was so gross
And my great grandma did that
And like my grandparents did that
And now I'm like
Oh, I have little throwaway Tupperware
To send my friends home with food
That I don't care about and don't need that
So, oops
Hey, Dads, love the show
So a younger me thing that I'd be embarrassed about
Well, there's a few
I have children now
One's about to be a senior
And I always yell at her
to clean her room so she does not have a pig sky, even though that's exactly how I live my life.
And then I also say things like, close the door, we're not trying to air condition the whole
neighborhood when it's 96 degrees out.
So that would be embarrassing for sure.
But, you know, my mom knew what she was talking about.
Hey, Des and sort of Hannah.
Huge fan of both of you.
Something that I have done as an adult that I think I would be embarrassed of as a teenager,
although I think it's pretty badass, is I decided to have a baby by myself.
I used a sperm donor and just did it on my own.
and I think that teenage me would have been like seriously you couldn't find a man to marry you
what is your problem but I think that the wiser version of me obviously thought it was the best
idea and I have no regrets I'm incredibly happy but I do think teenage me would be really
really disappointed hi does something I do today that my teenage self would be embarrassed of
is having, like, light road rage.
Like, I'm trying to turn on a green light,
and the person going straight is going too slow.
I will look them in the eye.
And I'm from the Midwest.
Somehow I always have a New York accent when I'm driving.
I'm like, could you go a little faster?
I'm trying to turn before the light turns red.
Could you go a little faster?
or if I'm like turning, if I'm trying to make a U-turn or something or even turning left on an arrow
and somebody is trying to turn right on red, I will also make eye contact with them through our cars
and just be like, what are you doing?
I guess it's more like road shaming than road rage constantly.
It's not a day goes by where I'm not road shaming.
All right.
See ya.
Hi, Des and guest.
I would say one thing that I do now that I would be like mortified by as a teenager is like pretty much anything I'm willing to leave the house in when I'm running errands.
I feel like when I was a teenager, I was so vain.
I'm like always had to wear makeup.
Always has to look cute.
And now like the way in which I am willing to be seen in public is horrifying, honestly.
Like if I really take a good hard look at myself and then then.
like I would die and I just know that 15 year old me would be like what are you doing?
Another thing is like small talk.
Like I feel like when you're young, you're like so like edgy and you're like, I'm not going to
talk about the fucking weather.
At work, I will have the same conversation 87 times.
Oh, wow, it's beautiful out.
Oh, wow.
We're supposed to get some rain.
Oh, wow.
like, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, like, just mind-numbing small talk because that's just part of being an adult.
And, like, I just feel like 17-year-old me would be like, why are you talking about things that don't matter all day?
It's just like, because that's how you just get through a work day, little alley.
That's just the way the world is.
But anyway, those are two things that I definitely think would make me cringe.
something that I do
now that I'd be embarrassed of as a teenager
is that not only do I watch Jeopardy
every day, record it,
and then watch it back and stay up to date on it
if I miss it.
So, yeah, I'd be embarrassed by that
as a young youngster.
Oh, well. Bye.
