Bigfoot Society - A Marine’s 3 Bigfoot Encounters… Including One Caught on Camera!

Episode Date: April 16, 2026

In this episode, we hear from Jay, a Colorado native and former U.S. Marine, whose life has been shaped by multiple encounters with something she cannot explain. Her experiences begin in the wide-open... ranchlands of southern Colorado, where as a child she came face to face with a massive, shadow-black figure that moved with speed and purpose unlike any animal she had ever seen.Years later, during Marine combat training in North Carolina, that same presence returns. While standing guard in the middle of the night, Jay watches as a towering figure remains just beyond the fence line for hours—silent, unmoving, and fully aware. No sound. No movement. Just something standing in the darkness, observing. Then in 2019, during a hiking trip through Mesa Verde National Park, a growing sense of unease follows her every step. Nothing is seen in the moment, yet something feels off the entire time. It isn’t until years later, while reviewing photos from that day, that the full picture begins to emerge. Shapes appear where nothing should be. A figure peeks from behind a tree. Another stands across a canyon. One image suggests something even more unsettling—these things were far closer to the trail than anyone realized. These encounters span childhood, military service, and family life, unfolding across remote ranchland, active training grounds, and one of America’s most visited national parks. Each moment adds another layer to a story that refuses to fade.If you’ve ever wondered how close these encounters can get, this is one you need to hear.🗣️ Share Your StoryHad a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience?Send it to bigfootsociety@gmail.com – your story might be featured on the show!🎥 Watch & Subscribe on YouTube🔴 Subscribe here → Bigfoot Society YouTube💬 Leave a comment & let us know your thoughts!📞 Leave a voicemail with your story → Speakpipe (Use multiple voicemails if needed)👥 Share this episode → Watch & Share🎧 More episodes → Podcast Playlist🌲 Recommended: New Jersey Bigfoot Encounters💥 Support the Show & Get Perks✅ Join the community on Supercast – Become a Member✅ Listen ad-free & early on YouTube – Join Here📱 Let’s ConnectInstagram: @bigfootsocietyTwitter: @bigfoot_societyTikTok: @bigfoot.society🧰 Tools & Partners I Use (Affiliate Links)These help support the show at no extra cost to you:Beam (Better Sleep): Try BeamWildgrain (Better Bread): Join HereSeed (Probiotics): Get SeedMedi-Share (Healthcare): Learn MoreLMNT (Electrolytes) Free Sample Pack with your first purchase! : Get LMNTOrganic and non-GMO groceries delivered for lesshttp://thrv.me/uarEhS🎙️ Podcasting Tools:Repurpose.io: Try ItDescript: Sign UpStreamyard: Start RecordingRiverside.fm: Try Riverside🎧 My Audio Interface: View on Amazon☕ Buy Me a Coffee – Support Here🛍️ Grab Some Merch – Shop on Etsy📬 Mailing Address:Bigfoot Society125 E 1st St. #233Earlham, IA 50072

Starting point is 00:01:53 So stay with us. All right, welcome back to Bigfoot Society. you have another episode for you today. I'll be talking to individual named Jay. Some information about Jay is native of Colorado. Jay also served as a United States Marine from the years 2008 to 2012. Thank you for your service for that. Definitely, Jay. Welcome to the show. How are you doing today? I'm doing well, thanks. Fantastic. This is going to be, I know a little bit about where we're going and it is kind of get really interesting I think, but you know, it is always always a fun interview when we're able to talk to individuals that
Starting point is 00:02:41 served in our military and how they're able to come forward and to share encounters that they had. So thank you so much for that. Is there anything else that the listeners would need to know about you before we get right into what you've experienced. Now, I think that pretty much covers it. Fantastic. Well, Jay, I know that we have three different main encounters that we'll be talking about today. So feel free to take us back to the one you would like to start with.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And I'll let you share that. And then we'll talk about it a little bit. And then we'll continue on down the line. Okay, sounds good. So the first encounter happened in the late 1990s. around the age of 12 or so, I lived mainly in the city areas of Colorado up north. So I didn't really have a whole lot of time during the year to go down and really be in the wilderness. So whenever I could, I would go visit my grandparents.
Starting point is 00:03:47 And they lived out in the southern part of the state in a kind of a really rural area where they had a ranch. And on this ranch, pretty much any wild animal you can think of and associated with Colorado. That's what we had down there. Pignon junipers and prairie grass, plains, and all sorts of different cactus and brush and various different foliage, but nothing that I would have struck me as habitat for a bigfoot. So I spent a lot of my time during school breaks and any kind of vacation time that we had going down there and just kind of exploring the area. There wasn't a whole lot else to do, but to go out and really just be in nature. And so on one particular visit, I had been cruising around on a four-wheeler and had actually gone over to a family's house to.
Starting point is 00:04:51 have dinner. And we had been there for several hours. And so about the time that everyone started to leave, I was a little bit behind everyone else. It was later in the evening around 10.30 at night. And couldn't have been better conditions. It was still not too cold, not too warm, probably somewhere around May when this all happened. And I hopped on the four-wheeler because I had to take it back to the shop where it was supposed to be um in going from my aunt and uncle's house down to the ranch house where we had been staying you have to go along a pretty curvy road the initial part of it is very wooded it has a lot of pinion juniper's all lining the the stretch of road for about a mile and then it really opens up and and you get into more of the
Starting point is 00:05:51 pasture area where you just have kind of speckles of the different foliage and everything, but nothing too dense. And so I had gotten past the really dense parts of that road, and everything was pretty visible. It was a full moon out and didn't see anything, no animals, no weird feelings, no anything for this one particular stretch of the road. But then when you go about another mile or so, I came to a point where I had this overwhelming feeling
Starting point is 00:06:36 like something was wishing death upon me. Like I had absolute dread, absolute fear, could not think straight, was almost in a panic looking every direction trying to figure out what it was that I was suddenly experiencing. On this one particular road, there's not really a whole lot around it. There were some pinion ginnibers right off to the side about a half a mile ahead of me, but everything else is pretty far spread apart, and I couldn't see anything. And so as I'm traveling along this road, I'm thinking in my head of anything, like, I need divine intervention or something.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Because whatever this is, it means me harm. And so I continue on cautiously, but at full speed, trying to get through this stretch of road. And I start to go past these pinion junipers. and I didn't see anything when I was initially passing them. Nothing stuck out, no, eye shine, no nothing. But as I drove past them, I saw motion from behind me.
Starting point is 00:07:53 So I turned to look and outstepped this giant black figure. And it took about two steps to where you could actually see the bend of the knee as it was making the steps up onto the road area. When it got to about the stretch of the road, it sprang forward, got down on all fours across the road, and took off across this pasture.
Starting point is 00:08:26 And this pasture wasn't a small pasture. It should have taken anything, at least a minute to get across, and this thing was it cleared it in seconds. it was pitch black ginormous I've seen bear running down there
Starting point is 00:08:47 I've seen mountain lions I've seen elk and deer and any of the bigger game animals that we could have had down there that this could have been and this was unlike anything I had seen before
Starting point is 00:09:00 it had a very unusual run when it ran to The closest thing I could wrap my head around is if you took a jackrabbit and a greyhound and you meshed their movements together, that was kind of what I saw. But even then, that's barely hitting the mark. Absolutely terrifying. And definitely changed how I interacted down there. I can't imagine seeing that. I mean, your age was around 12 from what you said before.
Starting point is 00:09:43 That is some wild, wild stuff. How tall would you estimate that it was? It had to have been probably around seven because there's trees down there. I mean, they can get fairly big, but these ones off the side of the road were probably about maybe eight feet, and it blended in right along with them. So I want to make sure that I have the right way of imagining off of what you said. So it came up to the road, but it is it that it is, I'm imagining like when you see like, not to say that's what it is, but like when you see a large cat like spring, it's like on all fours.
Starting point is 00:10:32 It springs across something. So was it like it was diving. across. Got it. Okay. So it went from these bushes. It took about, like I said, two steps. And when it took those two steps, you could see the knee come up on each of the legs.
Starting point is 00:10:53 But when it got to the edge of the road, that's when it kind of sprang forward, like launched itself forward over the road. And I want to say it would have been the front hands, paws, whatever. you want to call it, were the thing that touched ground first, and then it took off from there. You said it was a full moon. Was there anything, sometimes people report seeing specific weird things to do with the eyes when it's a nighttime encounter? Did you notice anything specific about the eyes? I noticed nothing.
Starting point is 00:11:41 It caught me completely off guard. How long would you say the entire encounter took? Maybe 30 seconds before it was too far for me to really see anything. And so let's see, 30 seconds and all. What about the amount of time from when you see it, take two steps and then up to the road and then spring across the road? Oh, man. I am, I mean, that didn't take very long. at all because like I said
Starting point is 00:12:28 those were right off the side of the road so you I mean this thing it it had quite the gate on it so maybe another 10 15 seconds
Starting point is 00:12:44 gotcha okay and then how far away from you was this what you saw again as it it sprang across the road no more than 10 feet.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Oh, man. I don't know how you got through that as a 12-year-old. That is absolutely intense. In that short amount of time, were you able to see any details that would have given you clues as to, you know, I'm thinking maybe anything about the hands or the arms or head shape?
Starting point is 00:13:25 nothing specifically about the upper body the the main things that stuck out to me were the bend in the knee and the color of it the color of this thing was as if like all the shadows around it were just being absorbed by it i've heard that i've heard similar to that out from uh some organ encounters that is just the just pitch black yeah absorbing that's it's a good way to put it But so what happened after, you know, you're out on the four-wheel or you're 12 years old and then you have this, this life-changing thing happened to you? What happened after that? Well, I mean, that day was kind of the end of my exploring outdoors in terms of just feeling like I could go anywhere and not really have to worry because I, you know, I, had always been taught about certain things to look out for like look out for these tracks or look out for
Starting point is 00:14:37 this scat or you know but nothing nothing prepared me for anything like this so i had no frame of reference at that time like bigfoot was not even in my repertoire at that time um so i i couldn't feel i couldn't go out anymore especially at nighttime even even if it was just out in the front yard with the light there I would feel uncomfortable. To this day I won't even drive down there at night with my windows rolled down in my car or be outside if I don't have a big group of people. I just, it's too much. I can understand how it would definitely affect you like that. How long was it before you told someone else what you had experienced?
Starting point is 00:15:31 probably my mid-20s. Okay. Like I said, I didn't have any frame of reference for this. So for me, I guess I kind of, they had been having a bunch of weird activity down there at that ranch house anyway. So I kind of just jumbled it all into that realm of like paranormal type stuff. And I almost thought like, okay, this is something demonic because of how it made me feel. So I just kind of threw it in that basket because I, like I said, I didn't have any reference of Bigfoot. It wasn't something that people in my circle were talking about people in my family.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Like I didn't, you know, this was before you could do a YouTube search or a Google search. I don't know that asked Jeeves really knew much about Bigfoot back then either. Right. It's a great point. There was not a lot of Bigfoot information on accessible. I mean, you would have had to be books and libraries and things of that nature. It would be hard to get the information as opposed to today where it's easy. Now, so you didn't talk about it until you were 20.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Were you ever able to have a conversation with the relatives that were from that area about what you experienced that day? Not with those relatives in particular. I have had conversations with my mother about it because she grew up down on that ranch until about I think 73 is when she was out of there. So she spent quite some time between the 1950s and the 1970s. Okay. What was her reaction when you told her
Starting point is 00:17:28 what you experienced that night. She wasn't surprised at something like that could be down there. She never, beyond the feelings of being watched at times, she never experienced anything herself. And so for her, it was kind of a little bit of a surprise, but not too much. On this episode of plant killers, we'll explore one nation's most notorious fruit and vegetable killer, bad dirt. What makes bad dirt so bad?
Starting point is 00:17:58 The answer? The ingredients. But fear not true crime enthusiasts. This story has a happy ending. Miracle Grow organic raised bed and garden soil. It's made with quality organic ingredients from upcycled green waste like compost and aged bark. Unlike the other guys who can't say the same, looks like bad dirt's murdering days are over.

Not out of the realm of possibility, but definitely not something that was on her radar either. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:19:31 And what a way to get introduced to the subject? How did this then affect you? Sometimes people, you know, they experience something like this and they launch into trying to figure out what it was or did it just, you know, you said you were very, very apprehensive about going back to that area and really how you handled yourself outside? So I didn't dive into anything because like I said, you know, I didn't really know what exactly I was facing. Like I figured it was paranormal in some way, shape, or form. You know, that's what my mind kind of jumped to at the time. But I kind of just put it in the back of my mind with anything else that had ever happened down there and just kind of moved forward. I would still go down and visit, but I would definitely, you know, change up my behaviors a little bit.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I wouldn't walk as far as I normally would. I wouldn't go to more of the wooded areas to go play or do forewilling in more of the wooded areas. And I would definitely wouldn't go out at night. So it changed how I existed down there, but it didn't change my love for the area, if that makes sense. No, it absolutely does. You maybe, you know, if I'm trying to put myself in that situation, I think I would, I would definitely be treating it. I'd be more apprehensive. I would maybe you just be aware that there's something else out there that you hadn't been told about as a younger child.
Starting point is 00:21:14 And I think, you know, I would be, there would be a respect and definitely watching my back from here, there on it. But yeah, pretty wild stuff. There was definitely one feeling of like, I had always been told about the different animals and what to look out for. So the fact that I wasn't told of anything in particular to that matched this description, that also was kind of like an isolating feeling
Starting point is 00:21:43 because then, you know, okay, and what is it that I saw then? So. Do you remember? in the years since then, was there, let's say maybe a book you read or something that you watched that made you realize, okay, what I experienced that night, that could have been this thing that we're calling Bigfoot. It was actually the second encounter that did it.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Okay. All right. Well, I think if you're good to go, I think that might be a good time to move into the second encounter then. Okay. So the second encounter happened in May of 2008. At the time, I was a brand-new spanking Marine. I was in Marine combat training at Camp Geiger.
Starting point is 00:22:31 And Marine combat training is kind of like a continuation of boot camp where they kind of fine-tune certain aspects of your training, where you're learning how to do various combat tactics, if you will. And one of the things that you had to do was you had to stand guard duty so that you could learn how to really perform those duties in case you did actually encounter something in your career. And so we had what was called a battle buddy at the time, which was basically another Marine that you were assigned to kind of stick close to. and so my battle buddy and I, we got assigned to a night guard duty and we got taken to this area. I have no idea exactly where on this base it was. We were kind of in a field type position at the time. And so it was just rows of Quonset huts.
Starting point is 00:23:37 You had one dirt road that would lead between the two Quonset huts. and then on either side you had like maybe like a street light or something not quite like a light pole so you had one row of Quonset Heads another row of Quonset Heads and a road in between dirt road that dead ended at a fence that had Constantine wire and then there was like a little mechanical shed at the very end of this which I assume controlled all the lights. And so we were the second to the last ones that had just before that fence right underneath the spotlight and had to stay there all night. I don't remember exactly when we got there. But it was later in the evening as things were starting to get darker. And everything seemed to be going pretty well. There hadn't really been anything. There weren't any animals, there weren't any people. It was a very kind of remote location in terms of where all the
Starting point is 00:24:49 other stuff was happening. And so we were kind of just standing there quietly, didn't have cell phones, didn't have anything like that to distract us, just us and our rifles and all these, these buildings. and somewhere around probably 1230, I kind of just started getting this feeling like we were being watched. So I was looking around, trying not to make it obvious that I was really, you know, zoning in on things
Starting point is 00:25:23 because I thought initially there, you know, it was one of our instructors coming to mess with us. And so I started scanning everything and I couldn't really see, anything along the gate area or not the gate area but the fence area didn't see anything around the kwanzer huts and everything and so i kind of just zoned off into the wood line which was just outside of this fenced area and what i saw was basically like a figure very similar like
Starting point is 00:26:06 to the first encounter where it was that same kind of black that just absorbs everything around it and it was just slightly darker than the shaded areas around the tree line that it was standing in but it was standing in just past like the first row of trees it didn't move beyond so I take the back it moved ever so slightly when I first saw it and that's kind of what a alerted me to its presence. But beyond that, it just stood there and it watched. Didn't see any, any eye shine, didn't see anything super crazy. I could make out, like, more of the bipedal figure this time.
Starting point is 00:26:52 I could make out kind of like the actual frame of a head and the shoulders, but couldn't see really any detail. And so I just kind of kept it in my view, but I didn't. really let on to the fact that I had seen it or somewhere within, I think, maybe a couple hours, I noticed it just kind of like start to fade back into the background. And it just did that ever so slightly. You just noticed that it would get further and further back, but it wouldn't really move beyond that until it was completely out.
Starting point is 00:27:36 out of view. And then maybe about two hours later is when the sun came up. And that's about the extent of that one. Okay. So that is, that's some really interesting stuff. What would you say the distance was from where you were at to where it was standing in the tree line? Somewhere between 20 and 30 feet. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Because I think we, we had one constant. between us and then fence line and from the fence line to where the trail line was was probably another 10 feet. All right. And it sounded like
Starting point is 00:28:23 you were able to see it there for a few hours. Oh man. And it didn't seem you know, it didn't seem threatening or anything like that. I got more
Starting point is 00:28:38 of like, just like it was bored or curious and it was just watching to see what, you know, these two people were doing. What would you say, were there any giveaways that or details you notice that, that told you, okay, I'm looking at something different and this isn't just another Marine that's, that's spying on us. and making sure that the new recruits are doing what they're supposed to be doing. There were a couple things. So one, the area would have been kind of a difficult area for them to get to. I mean, North Carolina has a lot of dense forest area to begin with. So being in that kind of environment and that close to a military base in general would probably, you know, be not be impossible, but it would be quite a difficult task to go
Starting point is 00:29:41 and really be undetected by powers higher than me, I imagine. But two was the size, because those are also not small trees. I mean, it's much different than a pin-yard juniper. Those are fairly small compared to the tree height that you can get in North Carolina. And with that, I mean, you could tell that it was close to the branch height of these taller trees. I wouldn't say it wasn't like high up into the canopy, but it definitely was blending right along with the trunk to the lower branches of these things. Would you be able to try to put a number to what you think the height would be of it?
Starting point is 00:30:34 probably about eight feet maybe okay gotcha and then you'd mention that you could see you know like the frame of the head and the shoulders
Starting point is 00:30:54 were you able to tell anything about like the shape of the head at all it the shoulders and the head all seem to kind of go in like together they didn't there didn't seem to be a whole lot of definition.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So devoid of a neck, I guess, is what you could say. As far as like if there was a round head or a conical head or anything like that, I couldn't really tell you just because of how the leaves and the tree and the shadows kind of like fell on everything. Gotcha. How about this? let's say you're trying to put an estimate on how, how heavy it was, or could you notice anything about the type of frame it had overall?
Starting point is 00:32:07 It was extremely bulky. Because my initial thought when I saw this figure was, okay, you know, this is just some instructor that's going to be messing with us. but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that the size didn't match. Because, I mean, you have some Marines that are pretty bulky in their size, but this was,
Starting point is 00:32:33 particularly the width of the shoulders seemed completely out of the realm of human possibility, if you will. It's, It's really hard to say because part of the frame was along in that tree area. And it was only, you know, I could only see so much between the shadows and the trees. Because like I said, it was standing within that first row of trees.
Starting point is 00:33:10 How wide across would you think that the shoulders were? Oh, four feet easy. Yeah, okay. That's wild stuff. Yeah. And the other thing, too, is the next day, nobody said anything dark. On this episode of plant killers, we'll explore one nation's most notorious fruit and vegetable killer, bad dirt. What makes bad dirt so bad?
Starting point is 00:33:39 The answer? The ingredients. But fear not true crime enthusiasts. This story has a happy ending. Miracle grow organic raised bed and garden soil. So that was a big kind of like question mark on there because, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:08 if it had been an instructor or something I would have expected to have my butt handed to me, like, how come you didn't, how come you didn't say anything? How come you didn't, you know, interact with this figure you saw? is we I like I said I didn't tell my battle buddy anything that I was seen um but the next day I nobody came to debrief nobody came to like question me nothing like that it was just like I saw something and no one else in the world knew about it okay now during those hours that you were noticing this and watching it did you at any time hear any sound from that area? No. No sound. Oh, wow. So completely quiet the whole time. Yeah. And I'm talking like no, no insects, no animals, no nothing. Okay. So that is definitely, uh, that's extremely
Starting point is 00:36:11 interesting. And, and so I'll reframe my question in a minute a different way, but that is really good to know. So you're not, you're not hearing any environment, environmental sound. Uh, did that, was that what it was like the whole time or did that kick in at a certain time during that night? The whole time. Well, I mean the whole time of the encounter. I want to say I don't remember any animals during that time, but there were definitely bugs at one point. But I don't remember there being any sort of sound during this time frame. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Gotcha. So let's pretend that you're in that area and that you have your eyes closed. And so you're just using your ears. There would be nothing that you're hearing from that area that would tell you there's something over in that tree line. Right. Wow. Okay. So that that's pretty freaky. I mean, you're seeing something that you're estimating to be eight feet tall, four feet across at the shoulders and not making a sound of any kind for hours. Nothing. Not not a, not a, a tree break, not leaves crunching nothing. I, I, the only thing that tipped me off to there being something was feeling like something was watching us. Mm-hmm. My goodness. Did you ever have a conversation with your battle buddy after this about what happened? No. No, we, we weren't on the best of terms, so we didn't talk more than what we had to, so.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I get you. I got it. That's wild though. If you think about it, there's someone out there that to this day have no idea that during training there is a big foot right there. You imagine like what would happen if, and I don't know if you guys would have had weapons on you at all, but like what would happen if you started, you know, shooting weapons towards that direction? I mean, it could have been terrible, you know. I wonder sometimes how much the weapons actually played into it because we did have M16s at that time. they weren't allowing us to have them loaded.
Starting point is 00:38:28 But obviously this thing wouldn't have known that. So we did have them on our persons. But so I kind of wonder, between, you know, I don't really think the fence would have been much of an obstacle, but between us and the weapons, there being two of us and essentially being armed if that was like, if that changed how the interaction went down or if it would have been a completely different interaction
Starting point is 00:38:54 had it not been the case because there again we were both females as well so and that's actually a half a second before you said that i was like did another thing is they're both females too and i wonder you know sometimes that does play it actually plays i think it plays a ton into encounters if there are females present and that's a whole discussion in itself did the topic of bigfoot or or anything else is strange like that other cryptids ever come up during your training at that camp? Yeah, okay. No, we didn't hear anything. We didn't get any sort of brief about any kind of animals or anything like that. And that's not even, you know, suspicious animals. That could have been like coyotes, for instance. They didn't have any sort of
Starting point is 00:39:43 briefing for us on any kind of animals. I guess, you know, they assumed that we were in the fence, so we were good. I don't know. But. Which is another good point. All this happens. happened within the fenced-in area of this marine training camp, correct? Now, we were in the fence line, but it was 10 feet outside, at least 10 feet outside of the fence line. Thank you. Thank you. That makes a huge difference.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Okay. So you're inside the fence, but it is watching you from the outside of the fence for, Oh my goodness. That is so wild. Yeah. For at least a couple hours, it was watching. And like, I wasn't, you know, I wasn't checking my watch regularly or anything. But I do remember at some point before this all started, I had looked down at my watch and it was past midnight.
Starting point is 00:40:35 So I can tell you that much. You know, it was past midnight and it was before the sun came up by at least a couple hours. But for the vast majority of the time, this thing was just chilling and the forest line watching us. Man, it makes you wonder, like, what is going on on the Bigfoot side there? it like they're watching, they feel like they're watching something at the zoo or like, I mean, if you look at the map in this area, there's a ton of forests around this area too. Yeah, it is extremely dense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:09 A lot of forest, plenty of wildlife and waterways. I mean, we would have wildlife on the basis all the time, like in Lajun. And the waterways would go all the way through there. I mean, you could eat, you had every sort of different thing from like little creeks to, like an ocean. So. Absolutely. And yeah, that's a important detail. This is definitely, when people think North Carolina, I think they're thinking over by Asheville.
Starting point is 00:41:42 But I mean, you're over by the Atlantic Ocean pretty much in this situation. Yeah. We're right off the coast there. Yeah. So that is an important thing. Now, how did this, you know, you have this experience. Did you know right away, did you have a feeling like, okay, what I'm seeing, this is a big foot? Or did it take some time for you to also make the connection of what I experienced that night was probably a big fun?
Starting point is 00:42:10 So it took me a little bit of time, but that was also around the time when they had like Monster quests coming out with like their Bigfoot episodes. So I remember watching that and kind of. Like, it wasn't like, I think, when it aired on TV, but it was like you could go back and watch it on, like, Verizon had a thing on your phone where you could watch certain TV episodes or something. And that was like the cool new feature. And so I remember watching something about Bigfoot on there and kind of being like, huh, okay. So that would make sense because that's what I saw, or at least that looks a heck of a lot like what I saw. And then, of course, that siding too was also like, well, that seems very similar to the thing that I saw when I was 12. So that's when, like, the puzzle pieces started to really connect.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Totally, totally got it. And then for future listeners, she is talking about the original run with Doug Hycheck, just so people are clear on that. And that's extremely interesting. And that was only your, you said, your second encounter. right? Yes. Oh my goodness. Okay. So let's see. So that, that was 2008. You are, let's see. So you're, you're probably in your 30s at that time, I would guess. No. I was, oh, so I take it back. So the first encounter actually would have been, I said late 90s, but it would have been early 2000. So it probably would have been like 2001, 2002. So at that time I was about, 18 for the second encounter. Oh, okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Sorry. That's cool. Okay, so, all right. So then, yeah, let's move on to your third experience then. Okay, so my third experience, so my husband and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and this was in September of 2019. And so we had decided that we were going to take a weekend trip down to Mesa Verde so that we could do hiking because that was our thing.
Starting point is 00:44:32 We would go and we would do the whatever close destinations we could in-state, do hiking trips, occasionally go camping, things like that. And so we went down there the night before, stayed in Cortez, so we could get up early the next morning. And so on the 23rd is when we would have been in Mesa Verde. And we got a pretty early start. We were there maybe an hour after the park initially opens. And at that time, one of the trails was closed.
Starting point is 00:45:12 I forget exactly which one it was that was closed, but we were able to do the Petrogriff Trail and the Canyon Trail for hiking. and then we went and saw the actual cliff palace. So those three were at least open. And so initially we started our hike in the petroglyph trail and then ended with the canyon trail. So for the petroglyph trail, you basically go in this area that hikes up along the canyon
Starting point is 00:45:46 until you get to the petroglyphs. And then it's a short distance after that where you basically crest the canyon and you're out back into the main area. And so when we were on that trail, I don't think we had been on there for very long, maybe 10 or 15 minutes. And I started to get this feeling like something wasn't quite right.
Starting point is 00:46:12 And I don't know that I would necessarily say it like I felt like I was being watched. I just felt like uneasy. And as we continue to go on, on that trail, the feeling kind of got more intense. I just felt like, okay, something could possibly go wrong here. So I love taking photos of nature and things like that. And we had a daughter back home with my mom at the time who loved wildflowers. So I was taking pictures of flowers and rock formations and all that stuff. And so I remember feeling like I needed to take extra pictures of our locations. Like, in case something went wrong, they would, if they found my phone, they would know
Starting point is 00:47:00 exactly where we left off so they could start searching. And so I started doing that. I started taking extra photos. I think by the end of it, I ended up with like 250 plus photos. But that Philly never subsided. The entire rest of the time that we were hiking through these areas, I felt that uneasy filling. And it didn't matter how high up we were or how low in the canyon valley we were. Like I said, the petroglyth trail goes along the canyon, but then the canyon trail itself goes down into the canyon and loops back up. And this entire time that we're hiking through all these areas, there's dense wilderness
Starting point is 00:47:49 or there's like rock outcroppings and all sorts of different features and scenery and foliage and everything. I mean, what you would think of for that area of Colorado, it's not exactly the most, like you would think more desert-like. You wouldn't think, you know,
Starting point is 00:48:14 Bigfoot habitat. It's not something that I was thinking about. I thought like as soon as we left more of like the Pogosa Springs area, the Durango areas, that that was it. Like we were out of the potential areas where something like that would live and into more the desert canyon areas. And it was just, it kind of blew my mind exactly how densely wooded this area was and just really eerie filling the entire time. So we get done with the hikes. We go back. And of course, like I said, you know, I wasn't expecting Bigfoot in this area.
Starting point is 00:48:56 That was not a saying in my brain. Like that couldn't happen. They couldn't live down there. So I didn't immediately do a deep dive into my photos to see if I caught anything or anything like that. Like that's not at all what the purpose of those were. It wasn't until a couple years later when I was actually trying to do some art pieces for our house where I started to kind of go through those pictures and really dive into like the different areas and the different angles and zooming into things.
Starting point is 00:49:30 And that's when I happened to cross this one figure. The first one that I saw was the figure poking out of the tree. where I saw it and I thought, surely not. But what is this thing? And the more I looked at it, the every different way I tried to look at it and making it brighter, making it darker, any different way.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Like it didn't change what I was seeing. I was still seeing this figure. I was still seeing something reach out with one hand and the eyeballs and there, you know, So that led me kind of into a deep dive into these photographs to see if I could find anything else, and then I found something. And that's when I started looking at this figure that was standing across the canyon. On this episode of plant killers, we'll explore one nation's most notorious fruit and vegetable killer, bad dirt. What makes bad dirt so bad? The answer? The ingredients. But fear not true crime enthusiasts.

There again, from a distance or if you weren't really paying attention, these things would just look like trees. But there was this thing standing behind this tree across the canyon. and doing a very poor drop of it because it looked pretty distant from the tree, if you will. And so I kind of sat with those for a while, would occasionally pull them out, show them to, you know,
Starting point is 00:52:33 a family member here and there, maybe a friend, but I didn't really do anything. And then I started kind of getting more into Bigfoot and started listening to podcasts. like I started listening to like Wes's podcast and then I got into listening to yours and that led me to actually reaching out to you. And in doing so, I wanted to go back and look at those photos,
Starting point is 00:52:58 making sure like I had everything for you for the interview. And that's when I noticed that second one. Or not the second one, but the third one. And that third one is the one that I think looks like a female holding an infant standing with like a side profile right next to the tree like it's going down like it's going to go past the tree they really are some some interesting photos and it's okay that you you had said it's okay to put them in the youtube version correct yeah absolutely absolutely um the one yeah i mean man there's there is definitely when you have one zoomed in and I mean you can see what looks like it is it looks like it's
Starting point is 00:53:53 reaching a handout and you can see like two eyes and like it's just it's it is it's really wild stuff I see a lot of photos but but uh these are some really pretty pretty interesting things have you been back to this area since then I have not um and that's not to say that I wouldn't go back there, it's just time hasn't allowed for it. But, so with that initial picture that you were just talking about, that one was crazy. So that one, when you look at, so if I go back and I look at some of my other photos, we were literally a minute from where the petroglyphs were. and it was right off of the
Starting point is 00:54:44 would have been the right hand side of the trail from where the petroglyphs were in the tree line over there so I don't know how far that would have been maybe 50 feet and that that's a huge maybe I don't even think it was that far but it was off just a minute past the petroglyphs wow and if you look at
Starting point is 00:55:12 I mean, it's such an interesting area because the park really kind of juts down into the Ute Mountain Reservation. And then south of that is the Navajo Nation, which, I mean, that whole area is so, so incredibly active when it comes to Bigfoot and other things. And so I'm really not surprised. Sasquatch isn't going to stop at the reservation. reservation line and the park border for sure, it's just going to go right in there. So I'm not surprised at all. What did your, uh, what did your husband feel when you started noticing these things? So initially when we were hiking, I didn't tell him that I was feeling any certain way, because I mean, it's not unusual for me. I, I'm where it's people, I guess it's more in tune to
Starting point is 00:56:08 like different changes in the atmosphere, if you will. So for me, it's just kind of like I could walk into any room. And if something changes, I'll feel it first or I'll notice something or just anything kind of, I guess, weird like that. But so I don't often mention it to him. And he didn't seem to really, if he had felt anything at the time, he didn't say anything. but later on as I started to find these pictures you know he's always been very much one of those like I personally need to see it to believe it kind of people
Starting point is 00:56:51 but even even that like seeing these photos it makes him even kind of put a pause and go wait a minute this is something I'm seeing something I don't know what I'm seeing that I'm seeing something and I can't deny that I'm seeing something. Sure. Sure, sure. So, it's a really interesting photo. Has the fact that you, now you have this evidence captured of things on some things that were there during the hike.
Starting point is 00:57:31 How has this affected things since the way that you, you, you. view Bigfoot, F at all? It was kind of like confirmation, confirmation of everything that I've seen. And so, like, okay, my eyes weren't actually playing tricks on me. These things actually are out there. They are real. They are in areas where you at least expect them to be. Because, I mean, that first photo, the one across the canyon, about the time that I was starting
Starting point is 00:58:02 to fill that unease is about the time we capture. that. It was within probably 10 minutes of taking that photo or like 10 minutes of me starting to fill that way when I took that initial photo. And then the second one
Starting point is 00:58:22 that I sent you or the one where it's peeking out like I said, we were right off the trail and that was in a high traffic area. There were a ton of people checking out those petroglyphs. And a minute up at the road, or up that trail, this thing was right off the side in the forest. And then the last one I sent you
Starting point is 00:58:47 where you can kind of see the backpack at the edge of it. That one, that just shows you exactly how close we were to that tree line. I mean, neither one of us saw anything or anything like that. And that was so close. And for them to be able to be that close to us, and not be detected and to really blend in with the scenery and everything is just mind-boggling. Like, to have them in that area that's more desert-like and everything kind of blew my mind to begin with.
Starting point is 00:59:20 But to see exactly how close they were to the trails and to other people and completely seemed, you know, maybe perturbed that one, you know, with the hand creeping out and the eyeballs and everything, he looked a little perturbed or it looked a little perturbed. but, yeah, just to have them that close to a bunch of people, to trails that are traveled regularly, just people need to be more aware. Absolutely. Absolutely. And, I mean, to, it's, and especially, you know, this happened in National Park and, you know,
Starting point is 01:00:04 my personal belief is that, you know, Bigfoot is in our national, at least some of them in our national parks. And that's a whole other discussion in itself. But I mean, Mesa Verde National Park, you've got these, these photos and they're very, very compelling. And it really makes, I know that there's been people that have reported things, you know, in other places, other national parks like Kusemite and we talked to an individual out in, um, I'm blanking. What is it? Uh, Wyoming. What's the Wyoming one? What is it? Uh, they're going to Yellowstone? Yes. Talk to the individual in Yellowstone National Park that was a worker there and had a, um, had an encounter. And so I, you know, I would say from what I'm talking to people and you can look at the reports, uh, they're
Starting point is 01:01:05 definitely in our national parks. But based on what you've experienced in your three different encounters, do you have any thoughts or feelings about what you think Bigfoot is exactly based on what you've experienced? I don't think it's one particular thing. I think there are multiple different types. So some, I think, are genuinely flesh and blood creatures. that are, you know, maybe this goes back to the whole gigantropithecus theory that, you know, gigantropithecus didn't actually go extinct and just found a way to migrate and adapt and so on.
Starting point is 01:01:55 I don't know exactly if that works or not, but I view these things as kind of like that, where they're, they're flesh and blood, and that's what they are. Like, particularly the one in Mesa Verdei, just looking. Looking at some of those photos, like the, you know, the female with the infant really just struck me as this is just an animal trying to exist and care for their offspring and whatnot. But like, the encounter that I had on the family land, that one was dark. that one was that struck fear into me, which the other two didn't. And that kind of leads me to, well, what if this had some other property to it? Because I felt that fear long before I got to it. And it was one of those things where I was not in control of my emotions. I, everything was jumbled.
Starting point is 01:03:05 everything seemed like to the extremes. And I feel like that was some form of control that you wouldn't get with just a normal animal. It is, it is one. I look at it as one of the last great mysteries of our world today, not just our country, but definitely of the world. And it's a thing where it really makes you wonder what is going on out there, especially when you have people like yourself where it can affect the way you're feeling in certain areas, how you're reacting. And, I mean, it's just, it's wild, wild stuff.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Do you ever, do you wish to have another experience with something out there? Are you okay with the ones that you've had so far? I think it would depend on the kind of experience. if it weren't a hostile experience If I could control the type of experience I had I wouldn't mind seeing another one I could take it or leave it I guess is what I would go with
Starting point is 01:04:24 The hostile experience That's life changing When you have one of those where it seems like Your life is actually in danger You don't want to experience that again But when you see things on a different level, it kind of changes it and it makes it so it's, or yeah, I could do that again. I could see that again, but if I never did, at least I had those experiences or at least, at least I know that I'm not
Starting point is 01:04:52 going crazy or, you know, no matter what anybody says about me or whatever, you know, anytime I've recounted these tales, it's kind of like the perspective that I've taken with it is, I know what I saw. I now have evidence of what I saw. I now have evidence of what I saw. I'm good either way. Exactly. Exactly. No one can take that away from you. Jay,
Starting point is 01:05:18 I just want to say thank you so much for sharing with us your experiences over the years.
