All right, Bigfoot Society, you've got the privilege of talking to Burton's tonight. Burton is an individual that reached out to me. He had seen one of my episodes that were based on a situation in New York to do with Bigfoot and then reached out to me after that about a situation that he had happened a while ago. But Burton, it's a privilege to have you on the show today. How's it going, man? Not too bad. Fantastic. Is there anything that the listeners would need to know for background about yourself before we get started. Not really. I grew up in a small town in western New York. A lot of woods. A lot of people don't
Starting point is 00:03:09 realize when you say New York, they think you're talking about New York City. It was a very rural town. I've been around a lot of just big animals, woods. I've seen, I've been in the woods. Gotcha. Burton, I'm going to have you go out. ahead and if you wouldn't mind taking us back to when this interaction all started for you. So it was probably 10 years ago I had this dog. His name was Marley, he was a big yellow lab. And at the point the story happened, he was blind and deaf because he had diabetes. And we were, it was me, my mom and dad, we were watching TV in the living room the one night.
Starting point is 00:03:55 And he jumped up. and acted absolutely rabid. He was just going crazy and barking at the door to go towards the back of the house. And we let him through that door. He went to the next one. He was barking. He'd honestly thought somebody had broken in or something. It was like four doors to get to the back of the house to get outside.
Starting point is 00:04:19 And every single one, he just kept barking, jumping at the door and snarling. And I've never seen, he's a lab. He was like a lovable sweet dog. He had never had problems with anybody or anything that I can remember. And we let him through the next door, let him through the next door. And we got to the very back door that led outside, me and my mom, dad. And we opened the door and we started to go out. He tried to run out.
Starting point is 00:04:49 We had to grab him by the collar thrown back in. And he was just acting like he wanted to go out and, kill something and at this point he was probably five six years old he was an old blind diabetic dog he napped usually and so we went outside it was 10 11 o'clock at night so it was late and we stood there on the bed back for a second looking around it was real dark back there and we looked to the back corner of the yard and there was just a big silhouette there. I mean, it's, it was just, it looked like a big person standing there completely still. And the entire time, we stood out there, I don't know, probably five minutes. And the entire time, we could just hear
Starting point is 00:05:49 the thing breathe. It sounded like. you had somebody sitting there breathing in your ear and it was 50, 75 feet away. And it wasn't like it was labored breath or it was running or it was tired. It was just sitting there resting just loud. And you could, whatever it was, it knew that we saw it and it didn't run. It didn't care that the dog was barking. It just stood there breathing, which was off-putting. intimidating. After a few minutes though, my dad was sitting there and he'd better go back inside.
Starting point is 00:06:33 And afterwards, he always, you bring it up to him, he's like, oh, that was just a black bear. But it's the black bears aren't supposed to be around this part of the state in New York. And I don't think if they were that they would be that big. You know what I mean? The only thing I could think that it was maybe a horse. Maybe it was a horse that was standing directly facing towards us for five minutes straight, perfectly still. But that doesn't seem like any of the horses I've been around. There's a large Amish population around us. So they would have horses.
Starting point is 00:07:15 They would come down. They had a hitching post by the house. And I'd bring the dog out to see the horses. and he never had a problem with him. But just the fact that he was that worked up about it was, he didn't get that worked up. You know what I mean? He acted absolutely insane about whatever it was that was outside. And then we got out there and it was whatever,
Starting point is 00:07:41 it was just standing there at the corner of the yard, just looking at us, watching us, and breathing. So anyone who went back inside and then I grabbed a flash, like trying to go back out and look because we heard me and my mom were like this it's weird it's really weird whoever that was whatever it was weird went back out the shape wasn't there the silhouette wasn't there there there I walked around looked after a few minutes the dog calmed down I put him on a leash took him out for a walk and looked he sniffed around a bit and it's there's just nothing there So it's, their house is right next to a railroad track and the canal.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And where we're at New York, it was a town's maybe 500 people. It's not a big town. There's a couple other small towns, five miles in each direction. And we're right next to a huge swamp, the Manizuma Nature Preserve there. So I think it was just something crossing through that there's something walking past. And I don't understand how the dog could have smelled it or saw it or knew that it was there. But it was something that he was sleeping, relaxing, and he woke up and was trying to attack people to get outside to fight it. It was just very, it was off-putting.
Starting point is 00:09:24 It wasn't a normal thing to happen. You know what I mean? It stuck out. And then when we all three of us went outside and we were standing on the back porch watching this thing for minutes and it's just standing there watching us watch it. It was it stuck out. Were there any weird smells around the outside that you noticed that night? There wasn't. It was a pretty, like, it was a, I remember that it was like a still quiet night.
Starting point is 00:10:06 It wasn't windy, but I didn't smell anything. I know, I remember that it was very quiet. Was that a quiet that you'd ever experienced before, or was it a norm abnormally quiet? It was pretty abnormal. Normally, if it's quiet out there, like, you can hear stuff off in the distance, but it was very quiet, very, very, still and the only thing we could hear was just that it was like a horse breathing in your ear. It was just weird. I've been around deer, I've been around cows, I've been around horses, but for what was 50, 75 feet away and you could just hear it breathing, like there was just a huge
Starting point is 00:11:01 amount of air going in and out, you know what I mean? It was like a just like an airport pump just in and out. It was weird. Now the next day, did you go over to see if you could find anything out of the ordinary in the area where it was standing? Yeah, it was probably July or August, though, so it was really dry. And it was on the road next to the railroad. They have like this little access road.
Starting point is 00:11:36 It's dirt road. And it wasn't wet. there wasn't tracks. I walked the dog up and down there. I used to walk him up and down all the time at bad night in the dark. I've walked miles up and down the railroad tracks with that dog, and he never had any kind of issue. He was never freaked out.
Starting point is 00:11:56 He was always just chill. And he was never upset or freaked out just to see him wake up from the middle of nothing, and naping and wanting to go outside and fight something was, it was crazy. How did your dog act the next day? Was it back to normal or were things still a bit off for him? He was pretty much back to normal. He went sniffing around, but he didn't, he wasn't freaked out or upset. It was like whatever it was had passed through and was gone and he was good with it.
Starting point is 00:12:37 He just seemed really, but I don't, we didn't have windows open. We didn't have, I don't know how he could have smelled something or, I don't know how he could have known something was out there. For him to act like that and us to go to the back door, we expected to go out and stand there on the porch and be like, yeah, there's nothing out here. He's being crazy. Go back in. But the entire time we were standing out there, he was snarling and barking at the door. whatever it was just didn't care. I didn't view a dog as something that it needed to be worried about.
Starting point is 00:13:16 It didn't view the three of us is something it needed to be worried about. It just stood there and it was very confident almost. It didn't do anything threatening, but just the way that it behaved was threat. because it knew that nothing that was going on with us was a threat to it. Does that make sense? Yeah, absolutely. It was just very self-assured or it was just in there. You caught me, saw me, and just what are you going to do next?
Starting point is 00:13:54 And then when we went inside and I went back out, it was gone. You'd mentioned before that it is in. in the same area or that Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge is in the same area where this is or nearby. So I want to point out to listeners, it's a massive refuge in, I don't know if you consider it central New York, but it's right next to 90. If you take 90 across New York, and it's about what 10,000 acres, it's a really big refuge. It's a big area. Yeah, there's spots in that swamp that people probably have never been. into. It's super hard to navigate. I used to go out fishing out there all the time. Yeah, it's a big, it's a big area. The town where it happened is, like I said, it's like 500 people. It's between Rochester and Syracuse. It's right along the Erie Canal. It's right along the railroad tracks. It's right along the old Erie Canal before the current one was built. And it's just the site. So where they live in the, the town right there
Starting point is 00:15:07 by the tracks in the canal it's super dark so they're back in the side of their house where the tracks are there's no light there's lights from across the canal from street lights but that's 500 feet away so it's just dark you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:15:23 it's not like streets and sidewalks and stuff it's like where the woods butt up to the town and if you wanted to walk through the town and you walk down the canal, it'd be maybe a thousand feet where you'd have to worry about someone's seeing you. But even then, probably nobody is going to, especially at night because it's just, it's nothing there.
Starting point is 00:15:51 The front of the house and the other side of the house kind of faces town, but it's still a big empty, is just empty out there. You know what I mean? And then you've got trying to think, I think like seven miles down the tracks, one way is the other small town. The rest is all woods and cornfields and coyotes and deer in between it. And then the other way, it's probably five or six miles down the tracks to get to Savannah, which is right by Montezuma. So it's all, they're all little small towns connected by one or two roads. the tracks and the canal. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:16:36 In that area, did you ever hear any other stories about people that had weird interactions or thought they saw something similar things? Not really. I don't think a lot of people would want to talk about it. I know that I had friends growing up that lived out in the country and we'd go out sometimes and you could hear weird stuff. at night out there like sticks knocking together and stuff. I don't think too many people really talk about anything weird that they've seen.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Or they brush it off. You know what I mean? Because it's what I feel my dad does with the, oh, it was just a black bear. It's no big deal. Like they have to live there and they don't want to, they don't want to live there if something weird is out there. You know what I mean? like they'd rather just brush it off.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Oh, that's something natural. It's something normal. But I think it makes them uncomfortable to be like, oh, that's something that I can't explain. That makes sense, especially in a lot of these smaller towns out in the east. You are going to have people that will not really talk about things that they've experienced. So you mentioned that you've actually heard something that was making like a wood knocking noise when you're out in the world. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we've heard of woodworking.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I had a friend I would go and stay the night with and hang out at his house. Yeah, you'd be outside at night. You'd hear it sounded like a baseball bat in the tree. I brushed it off. It's not looking for it. You know what I mean? It's not coming to get you. Or it's just something you'd hear late at night out in the woods.
Starting point is 00:18:33 this area where you saw something out in the shadows was there anything ever out of the ordinary besides this that happened on the property anything hitting the side of the house or any weird sounds that didn't quite you know fit into the surroundings not that um not that i can really think of. I think it was, I think most of the time the dog, if things were passing through there, the dog just didn't notice that it was passing through. I think that's the one time where something caught his attention and we went and looked and saw that something was out there. Yeah, I wouldn't doubt one bit that things had been walking past there for a while, but it was never, we never had anything else really bother us or anything else make its presence known.
Starting point is 00:19:37 It was the only time I can remember actually seeing something and then I thought about it. I was like, I think that was a big foot. Just because I couldn't explain it any other way. After that time, when you saw something at the edge of the property, did anything, did you, did you experience personally anything weird after that was out of the ordinary any seeing anything or experiencing anything um not really no it's i haven't had anything weird happen since that as far as the like woods or as far as big foot yeah not really now like i said it's been a while now now i'm moved out i'm moved away i'm out by
Starting point is 00:20:38 Buffalo and I have my own house and I have two dogs and the dogs I have now I got a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler and if it's just the thing that sticks out to me is like they like to bark at stuff they anything that's outside they know it's out there if I had either of them acting the way that the my lab my sweet lab was acting I'd grab a flashlight and grab a gun and go out and probably see what's going on. It was just very out of character. It was a weird situation. My dogs now, they bark at everything, but if they were acting that just intense, like trying to go through doors to go get something,
Starting point is 00:21:29 I would think something was seriously wrong. And they're more likely to act upset about, to put it that way. But no, I haven't really had anything weird as far as that or not any, no. You mentioned that you have moved out to Western New York, the Buffalo area. And I've talked to a few people out there. Have you run into anything out of the ordinary out there or heard anything? from anyone out there that's just not too normal? Not really, no.
Starting point is 00:22:13 It's, I don't go out too much at night. Sometimes I'll go out for drives at night and stop. The weirdest thing one time I was driving past the field and I saw two deer standing on their back legs, but it was just two deer fighting. Really freaked me out before I realized, like, oh, it's just two deer punching each other in the face. but it's not too much.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I don't get out as much as I used to either. We got coyotes that come into town every now and then. That's always spooky hearing them that close. But nothing crypto-related or crypto-zuel and whatever related. I want to say thank you for reaching out to share what was happening to you that one night over by Monash.
