Starting point is 00:02:14 Welcome to the Bigfoot Society podcast. What follows is a few minutes teaser for a member's only episode I just released with Mr. Kevin Cook from the Iowa Bigfoot Information Center. If you know your Iowa Bigfoot history, this is a extremely big deal in order to get Mr. Cook to come on record to talk about his time. in the late 70s, researching Bigfoot in Iowa. To hear the rest of the episode, you can become a supporting member on Patreon or become a YouTube channel member. Enjoy. Do you remember when you first met Cliff? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:51 I believe there was something that was written, and I don't know what it was. I'm trying to remember back. That's been like in, what, 77 or something like that? He, I believe he had just contacted Mr. Deaton about the sculpture. And I met Cliff. Cliff worked for his, if I remember right, for his father-in-law that was the Chevrolet dealer in North Des Moines, Northwest Des Moines. I can't remember the name of the Chevy dealership. But he married the guy, the gentleman that owned it married his daughter, Betty.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Lebrecht. And I just can't remember for sure how I actually met Cliff, but we started, however it was, I might have been looking at a car for all I remember, but we just started talking and Bizding and he had mentioned something about Bigfoot, and he was wanting to do this museum replica, and the one thing led to another, and I was young, and just started the family, and so I was hesitant about it, but as the replica was finished, we took, basically, I ended up taking the whole summer off of work when we traveled with that thing, because I figured it was more of a opportunity to travel with this replica and hopefully get some more information about what people were seeing.
Starting point is 00:04:29 And so took off the summer, traveled throughout the Midwest, exhibit it, talked to a lot of people, talk to a lot of people, law enforcement, wildlife conservation, conservation officers, people from all walks of life. And it was pretty interesting. And then, of course, reality sets in when you get done, you got to go back to work.
Starting point is 00:04:53 So Bigfoot became more of a part-time hobby at that point because you did have to make a living and support of family. And then over the years, Cliff and I lost contact. And I talked to Cliff about a year before he passed away. And we had a good conversation. And we talked about some of the people that had come to visit him or that he had visited. I think there's a gentleman up in, is it, Idaho that deals with, I guess, the
Starting point is 00:05:27 footprints. Oh, yeah, Dr. Maldrum. Yep. Okay. Yeah, he was talking about him. and coming to see one or another he ended up I guess the replica
Starting point is 00:05:39 or Cliff sending pictures or something but anyway so we just visited about the past and what was going on and at that time we decided that we were going to stay in contact and then of course then they passed on and pretty much
Starting point is 00:05:56 that was the last communication I had with Cliff. There's something you said a few minutes ago you did run into some weird things that you can't really explain, but you're not really sure? Yeah, I mean, I never, at the time I didn't think about them being weird, it's just sounds that you've never, that I've never heard before. Growing up in Iowa, you deer hunt and pheasant hunt,
Starting point is 00:06:19 and I was a pretty good hunter, so I was pretty familiar with the woods, and I knew what was going on, and they just hear things that aren't, in my mind, just weren't normal, that you weren't supposed to be there. And I could never, never prove one way or not. other. But that even piques your curiosity a little bit more when you do hear something that you're not familiar with. Oh, absolutely. Were they things like tree knocks or whoops or anything like that? Most of it was either a whistle. The, along the, uh, Mississippi River, um, I believe it was I had relatives that lived down by Kilcock.
Starting point is 00:07:05 And down in that area, there was a boop, and I, here again, it's been a long time ago, but if I remember properly, there was some hoops that I had heard down there, never really got into tree knocks. And I was more focused on vocal, vocalizations. And so I didn't really, and to be honest with you, if I heard him, I might have passed it off as something else at that time. I can look back on it and go, yeah, I probably heard some, but I didn't know what they were. But I can't say for sure.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Can't say for certain. So eventually you started with Cliff, the Iowa Bigfoot Information Center, which pretty much is a group of you guys that would get together, right? And you would have them go out and research different reports of Bigfoot sightings around Iowa. Is that pretty much the easiest way to describe what the Iowa Bigfoot Information Center was? Yeah, most of the research was done by either myself or Cliff or both of us. There was probably, from what I can remember, there might have been a couple other people that I knew that went out with me a couple times. But back then it was a lonely hobby. You didn't have four people out with, like said, drones and infrared cameras and everything else under the sun.
Starting point is 00:08:31 and a new bunch of people following you around. You were on your own. All your expenses were your own. And here again, just getting into raising the family, he did what you could and tried to make the most of it.
