All right, chatted for long enough, so let's get on with this show.
Starting point is 00:03:55 All right, Bigfoot Society. How's it going? We got Justin here from Cryptozo of the Corn. How's it going today, Justin? Oh, Living the Dream. Thank you for having me. Dude, such a good time. How's your booth been? I see you over at the booth. Busy. Yeah. Any good stories over there? Yeah. Not ones we'll probably talk about right this second because they're fun ones. Wink, wink, yeah. Some good ones. Everything from fairies and orbs to some Bigfoot stuff, which is always exciting. Let's talk about Crypts of the Corn for the listeners that, haven't checked you guys out.
Starting point is 00:04:26 So tell us a little bit about what Crypta Z of the Korn podcast is. Perfect. We like to say where we're scientific and magical thinking combined. I'm Justin. Mycoauses J. I go by the great and powerful mystery, and he's always a J clone. There's a whole bunch of them. There's like a closet full of them.
Starting point is 00:04:42 You just pick one. But no, like scientific and magical thinking. I was an endangered species biologist. I was a field biologist that specialized in endangered species surveys, habitat surveys did a lot of eDNA work which is for everybody the big foot field you know is kind of a hot button term but so i did that with other species and stuff like that our record we rediscovered two species is what my crew did so extirpated species which just means locally extinct in one big range expansion uh which was a catfish about that big it's a frecklebelly mad tom had a 480 mile range
Starting point is 00:05:20 expansion. So that means that their range grew so dramatically. Alligator Garb back in Ohio was a big one for us because now they have legal protection. So they've been missing from Ohio for about 180 years. And once they were confirmed to be back,
Starting point is 00:05:36 they get legal protection. So in the U.S. and most of the world, extinct or locally extinct species have no rights. So just because there's good habitat for it doesn't mean it's protected until that animal is back in its habitat. The other one would be the Iowa daughter we discovered in a place in Illinois that was one I had to go to court with a lot
Starting point is 00:05:56 because it literally stopped, I can't, I won't say the name of the company, right. A giant delivery service company. They're a sponsor. Yeah. I'm just kidding. They were, they were supposed to wait to put in a warehouse, a fulfillment center of the world. They were supposed to wait to put that in until after the survey was done. And they had already started.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And we found the endangered fish there. so they had to stop building it. Like I'm telling you where we were standing in the site, I could see the building they were building. So they had broken a lot of rules, and they were extremely not happy with us. Give me high five. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:32 That's amazing. Yeah. So now it's a wildlife area. It's gorgeous now. They tore all that stuff out of there and repaired the riparian zone, which is healthy for healthy waterways. So you get a lot of that mixed in with the cryptid stuff.
Starting point is 00:06:45 I was going to ask you about that. Yeah. So we do the science behind the Sasquatch. atmospheric creatures, one of your favorite topics, which we'll talk about. We mix in what makes biological or scientific sense to show you that the cryptid field is full of stuff that makes sense. And some scientists will, you know, and I was a scientist for a period of time. I'm not paid anymore, so I don't get that moniker. But we have scientists on our show that come on and talk about their feelings on cryptids and the paranormal and stuff like that and how it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:07:15 So we do a lot of that. And then Jay's the conspiracy guy. Right, yeah. He brings a whole different flavor. Have you been into Cryptozen your entire life? Yes. Okay. I was a lake monster guy, a sea monster guy.
Starting point is 00:07:28 I was a fisheries biologist was my actual job. So I love fish and salamanders are my favorite things. So I believed in a lot of ocean and sea and lake monsters and stuff like that. Never believed in Bigfoot until even three years. I had a Bigfoot encounter, which will kind of gloss around. over because we talked about that. I think it's been long enough when you talk about it again. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:51 It was a lot of encounters happened. Even after that, I still didn't believe in Bigfoot for three years. So I've seen a Bigfoot, but I was literally getting ready to go to college, you know, going to biology. So I'm like, I didn't see a Bigfoot. I just couldn't have seen a Bigfoot. And then now back, I was known at the guy at the lab that was the Bigfoot guy kind of deal, you know, so yeah, I was always into it, Lake Monsters mostly.
Starting point is 00:08:14 and now it's everything. The thing I love about your show is literally everything. So if you want to get out into the crypted universe and even crazier stuff, like stuff out in the sky and like floating things, upper atmospheric creature, black eyed kids, we have a whole episode coming out in a couple months about speech recognition in other species. Oh, wow. We actually have a biologist working on it with cetaceans,
Starting point is 00:08:44 or whales, the Baleen whales, you know, stuff like that, that they have probably just as complex language as we do. And so where do you draw the line for sentienthip? Computers and mushrooms and all the, you know, the big mix. They'll get a little bit of everything. So the way that I was introduced to Justin's podcast is I was trying to come up with an idea for a series name for a podcast I was going to do in my Patreon, which was going to be Iowa-themed.
Starting point is 00:09:11 And I was like, oh, my goodness, I should do call it Crypto's of the Corn. I better check to make sure no one has it. And then I was like, oh, there's a one. So I was like, oh, cool. And it turns out you're cool. So it was awesome. It's a very, very good podcast. But I do want to first talk about, and this is a really random rabbit trail I just thought of,
Starting point is 00:09:31 but do you have any feelings on how they are trying to bring back extinct animals into today's world like the thylacine? I have a lot of opinions on that. I'm sure you do. I love to hear him. Coloss's bioscience is the company. doing it. The main company. There are several other out of Texas, but they have labs all over the world. So they
Starting point is 00:09:50 actually already have the facility built in Siberia for the mammoth. Oh, wow. So they have rules, right? They have categories and rules to select a species to unexstinct. It has to be man-caused, so you can't just bring back a dinosaur.
Starting point is 00:10:06 You know, the extinction event, or at least the final nail on the coffin has to be something related to humans. You know, so it knocks out a lot of those other things. they have to have habitat that still exist to this day. So you can't bring, we couldn't bring back to mammoths if Siberia and the Yukon didn't still have habitat for them. Keep mind, these were a little bit bigger than Asian elephants and African elephants are today, but they were cold weather derivatives.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Like they needed a lot of cold, but when they went extinct, we lost a lot of species with them. They were called the cornerstone species of an environment. And the winter specifically, what mammoths would do is they take their tusk and be like a snowplow and re-exposed vegetation that was covered by feet of snow. So all these little species depended on these monsters to move hundreds of tons of snow so they could get to the food. So when mammoths went out, you know, everybody else was like they died in the winter. They have to have a living relative that can carry an embryo or they can pull an embryo from. We don't need to get into all that. It's really hard.
Starting point is 00:11:10 it's a lot easier to do this kind of work when you have an ambrose. So for the mammoth, it's the Asian elephant. African elephants aren't very closely related to mammoths whatsoever. Asian elephants are. Asians and African elephants are very distant related themselves. They're kind of the two last branches of the big Packarderm family. Sloths are another example, two-toed and three-toed sloths, aren't really related to each other very closely at all.
Starting point is 00:11:34 They're the same thing where they're the last two branches of this tree that was all crazy. So they have to have habitat They have to be man destroyed. They have to have a living relative. So their list is mammoths, trilocines, dodos, and stellar sea cows. Now, a cellar sea cow is just a giant manatee that was in the Pacific Ocean, and we actually think they were in the Atlantic Ocean, too. They were hunted to extinction in about five years because they were big as whales,
Starting point is 00:12:00 and they were really easy to stab the death. Because they didn't really fear anything, because they would live in kelp forest. So the only real predator was orcas. Orcas can't go into kelp forest, they'll drown. The stellar sea cow was really good at making pathways and, you know, not drowning inside kelp forest. Humans drown in Kelp Forest because it's like swimming in a bunch of nets. But, yeah, so they weren't, they were more like the Dodo, you know. They always make the joke.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Dodo's were dumb. Now, Dodo's evolved with no predators, so they didn't have that instinct that, hey, something's coming up and grabbing our eggs. You know, let's deal with it. My opinion is everything except the Dodo still has sightings to this day. We have done several episodes on Mammoth sightings. Oh, sure. Yeah, up in Canada, Alaska, right? Yep.
Starting point is 00:12:42 And even in Siberia, some of the bear hunters say that they find mammoth trails still. You got to talk about Siberia's a size of a massive country that, you know, a couple thousand people really live in. So you have essentially, you know, this massive amount of land with a small group of people, and it's almost unhospitable. Even during the summer, it's known as mosquito capital of the world. the swamps that form in the tundra are so intensive. It's almost no research gets done there because it sucks. It sucks in the winter. It sucks in the summer. If you're a biologist, where are you going to pick to go?
Starting point is 00:13:18 You're going to go to the Yukon or are you going to go pick to go to Arizona? I know where I'm going. But the trial scene still seen to this day. Very credible eyewitnesses, a lot of photos. The habitat's still there. The mammoths still seen to the stay. And the stellar sea cow still seen to the stay. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I don't know. We did a conspiracy kind of episode. about it that I kind of wonder if they're not recloning these animals if they just found them and are making a big what to do about it. How about this? Do you think it'll ever come up like, let's bring the giganticus back? Or would that not even be an option? Right now, as far as I know with their genetics, it wouldn't be an option.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Okay. The only thing we have that's kind of related to them would be an orangutan, and it's not very close. Okay. So just genetically it would be very, very, very difficult. occult to even do it. We have the DNA, you know, we have good teeth samples from these guys that aren't fossils, they're actual teeth from giganipithecus, and some jaw fragments, so we can pull DNA, but to actually bring them back. So I don't know. The long term, I'm fine with them bringing back those kind of animals. Like I said, if they actually listen to those criteria that they set forward, and there's habitat, and there's protections,
Starting point is 00:14:33 and, you know, they can do it ethically. Yeah, bring them back. The thing is mammoths, you know, it's very limited ranges, so you can't have the 40 million mammoths that used to exist at one time on the earth everywhere. But you've got to, like, people, like the Yukon, sure, you can release a whole bunch of mammoths up there. They're going to be fine and they're not going to run into people's towns. But trying to convince, like, Canada may be a little more difficult. Canada, even in the Yukon and stuff like that has a little bit higher population densities. So it may be a little harder to convince, like, yeah, we're moving this 12-ton animal
Starting point is 00:15:06 and next door, he's fine, you're not allowed to shoot him, but, you know, he'll stay out of your corn. Another cool behind the scenes thing about why I really appreciate Justin is when I get a, I get a lot of
Starting point is 00:15:22 like evidence in my email, I get a lot of photos, but I also have gotten some sounds recently, and I remember I was listening to Tony with the confessionals, and he would bring up, just in my biologist, I'm like, oh, I know who that is. Yep. And he's like, Justin's my guy, if I have a sound,
Starting point is 00:15:39 and I was like, oh, that's a good idea. So I was like, I sent you a sound from Alabama. It's interesting. We can't really get into it. It turned out, well, we'd say what it ended up being, though. I think that's okay. So, and it wasn't a good match.
Starting point is 00:15:54 That's what I do of the confessionals and several other people, is if I can knock it, if I can figure out what it is, a lot of birds, like, there's so many birds you don't realize that make, birds besides your hands can make giant gutteral sounds. that are really terrifying. You don't realize it's something, you know, that big.
Starting point is 00:16:10 I'll try to ID it. Location helps a lot, like night hawks and tape jars, not tape jars. Night jars, the big wide-mouthed frogbirds. They make really, really, really scary sounds. I'll try to idea it the best I can. If not, I'll give you a best of, like, it's close but not really right. And that one, I believe it was, if I'm remembering it was, Wild Boar was about the closest I could get.
Starting point is 00:16:34 With the teeth cutting and the... It was a hunter had approached me, and he was like, I ran into this sound that I recorded while I was hunting snakes. And in the video, you can see his arm is shaking. He's like, I don't know what was going on. I was like, I'm not a biologist. I was weirded out. It sounded weird. Like bears, for example, and porcupines make really weird noises.
Starting point is 00:17:00 If you're not around those animals very often and you hear a porcupine trying to mate, it's a scary sound. Everybody in here knows about the woman screaming with bobcats and mount lions and stuff. It literally sounds like two women murdering each other kind of deal. But bears, now with tree knocking with Sasquatch, this isn't all of it or nothing like that. But bears will cut their teeth is what it's called. It's a behavior where they slam their canines into each other. And if their bears are big enough, it actually sounds like you're taking two-by-fours and slam them together real quick.
Starting point is 00:17:34 And it's a warning thing. it's not a good sound to hear because if you're hearing it, some bear or somewhere is letting you know you're too close and I'm really bothered by what you're doing. So turn around and walk the other way. It's like rattlesnake rattle.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Do you think any sounds that we think might be Bigfoot sounds could be actually misidentified bear sounds? Misidentified animal sounds for sure. Not all of them, like never, all of them. I mean, you have stuff like the Sierra sounds that have been analyzed forward, backward, left,
Starting point is 00:18:05 and right kind of deal. And there are plenty of what I believe are big foot sounds. But like, you know, the boat you're in and the boat we're in, you get sent a lot of stuff and you're like, well, that's a nightjar. Right. And you just don't know that bird exists. Even though you live in this state they're in or whatever, you know, there was one we got that was absolutely terrifying.
Starting point is 00:18:25 I believe it was a hoop owl from Texas. And she was having paranormal encounters in her apartment in town. And she's like, there's a demon that's screaming at me. And she played it, and it was a little tight, it was like an owl that's six inches tall. And it was nested. She found it later. It was nest above her window cell where she couldn't see it from inside her house. And at night, this little group of owls would sound like freaking demons going off.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Oh, man. Bigfoot Society will be right back after these messages. This is Daniel Fischel. And Ryder Strong from PodMeets World. Cat parents unite. We have to look out for each other. Yes, we all know the feeling of being ignored by our little babies a little too well. Yeah, I often wonder to myself, does my cat even love me?

Starting point is 00:21:19 Missed shots, turnovers, letting my team down. And for a second, there's doubt. But then, I realize I've done enough to be where I'm at. The early mornings, the extra reps, the days I wanted to quit and didn't. So I smile. Self-doubt is natural, but my smile is a reminder that I'm,
Starting point is 00:21:40 resilient. To put more smiles out into the world, Colgate has supported female athletes for over 50 years with the Colgate Women's Games. The Colgate Women's Games is the nation's longest running indoor track and field series for girls and women. Colgate, your smile is your strength. So there's demons in the walls. Well yeah, there's little, yeah. But yeah, so yes, for Sasquatch sounds, I do think a portion of them are rarer animals that the average day person in the woods doesn't get it experienced. Interesting. Do you mind if we spend some time, if you could share again your Bigfoot encounter that happens, as it's been a while since we...
Starting point is 00:22:37 I'm going to give just the real quick version. Absolutely. Because I think when we did it, it normally it's like an hour to half. So side note, there's an other episode with Justin a few years ago, and it's about two and a half hours. So if you enjoy this, you can get really deep into adjusting conversation. Yeah. But go ahead. And I've done it on our show a couple times, just a real...
Starting point is 00:22:57 because everybody always asks, you know, so here's just like a flat one. But real fast, we had a family farm, northwest Ohio, Hardin County. We had the biggest tree lot in our county. We don't have a lot of trees. So when I say woods, you know, for the story, it's a very, very small woods, you know, it's not anything massive, probably a couple hundred acres. So, oh, Jay's actually calling. Oh, right. Yeah, I want every one.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Everybody pray for Jay. He's at National Bowling right now. Oh, that's true. some money. All right. No, so a lot of weird stuff happened. We had a farm. At that time, I was breeding competitive chickens.
Starting point is 00:23:37 I had like 500 birds. So everybody's seen dog shows and stuff like that. That exists for chickens. So I had some chickens that were just a little shy of a thousand bucks a bird kind of deal. Yeah, I mean, just like dogs, you know, you can get, once you get to look, I had $5 chickens too, so don't get me wrong. I had a lot of egg laying chickens.
Starting point is 00:23:55 So we had weird stuff happening. Like we had horses and my mom was a goat farmer, so we had 50, 60 goats. So we had this big grain bin in the barn, dad would buy grain by the palate and get it delivered because it was cheaper when you're going through that much feed and put it in there. So this lid was like an OBS sheet, four by eight. It started getting left up and only a couple of me and the older siblings were only people that could lift up by yourself. So rats were getting in there and stuff like that. So we were always fighting with each other.
Starting point is 00:24:25 stuff was getting moved around the farm a lot and like it'd be like a rake would now be in the corner of the fence and that kind of just a lot of weird little stuff enough of the way we were starting to kind of nip at each other and getting fights because life was already hard and now one of my siblings were making it harder for everybody else moving stuff around
Starting point is 00:24:45 the first year I'm trying to it's been a minute yeah absolutely the big event we had the first year was, so this had been 2010-2011 over the two big years of the stuff happened, was our driveway was about a half a mile long. It was like an appeal land. Like our land was in the middle of a bunch of farming land and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:25:13 So they had to give us like a little strip to get way back to our house. So it was a big long driveway. It disappeared to nowhere. Couldn't really see a neighbor kind of deal. So I was working at McDonald's. It's Fourth of July weekend. I was closing. So I got off like 1130. We had the campground we would go to and watch fireworks. It's Indian Lake. But locals, you know, you know where Indian Lake is. So it's about half hour away from the house.
Starting point is 00:25:36 I call my mom and I'm like, hey, you know, I'm just going to go home for the night. I'm just going to, I'll shower and then I'll come up in the morning. So I get home. Our house is like you shaped. So the kitchen and the living room are kind of next to each other, but not connected. You know, you got to go through the whole house. They're both glass. they both face into the woods. We had three dogs. We had Sonny, which is 150 pound golden poodle. And he was my daughter's service dog. We had Bailey.
Starting point is 00:26:05 He was like 40 pounds. And Clarice. Clarice, the dog that pooped why we did the first episode. Caldac. Yeah. Yeah. So she lived a long time. Pour one out for.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Yeah, pour one out for Clarice, everybody, when you're drank of the night. So I get home and I try to let the dog. dogs out and they won't come out. And I thought that was kind of weird. They wouldn't even come to the kitchen. Now knowing what we know now is, you know, answers questions later. But I was like, come on, I'm yelling at Sunny and stuff like that. Nobody wants to come out. So I'm like, whatever. Close it. I walk. I go to the living room, walk around the whole you of the house. I lay down. The whole time I'm walking through the house, the dogs are like glued to me, which they haven't seen anybody all day or whatever. So I lay on the couch and Bailey and Corrice hop up on me.
Starting point is 00:26:51 the weird thing is a sunny hopped up on me too this is a service animal this isn't some big goofy dog this dog is trained to help my brother that can't walk to balance and he didn't do these kind of actions so I yelled at him and he laid like on the floor right beside me so that was already weird behavior for him
Starting point is 00:27:09 way off I hear boom boom boom on the other side of the woods there are like four or five families that kind of live on this woods they're all older couples you know, everybody's 60s, 70s, kind of the older farmers. So I'm thinking they have family where it's Fourth of July weekend. Somebody's lighting off fireworks, right? And about 10, 50 minutes pass, and it goes, boom, boom, boom a little closer.
Starting point is 00:27:35 I'm like, okay, so their kids are going through the woods, you know, whatever. 15 minutes pass, boom, boom, boom, a little closer. Now it's not sounding as much like a firework. It's sounded like somebody's taking a sludge hammer in the woods and beaten on a tree. It's always three. about another 10, 15 minutes passed. There was an old dead tree right in the corner of the yard. Boom, boom, boom on that.
Starting point is 00:28:00 So I call Nick. He's our neighbor boy, my best friend growing up. I'm like, hey, are you in the wood? What are you doing? And he's like, no, we're in Pennsylvania. I'm like, okay, well, there's somebody out in the woods just screwing around and stuff like that. What started freaking me out at this point, the dogs aren't moving. They're not making any noise.
Starting point is 00:28:19 They obviously can hear what's happening. They're not reacting, which is what's scaring me. Like I said, Sunny, I defended my mom against somebody that tried to grab her one time. That dog was a trained animal for protection and help support my brother. So I'm sitting there. There's guns in the next room. I don't want to get up because the room's all glass. At this point in my head, I'm like, I don't want whoever's out there to see me where I'm at in the house.
Starting point is 00:28:44 I'm laying flat on the couch. Then you hear, boom, boom, boom. on our big metal barn. The horses freak out and actually break out. And they're going nuts in the field. You hear them just running in circles, just, you know, making all kinds of noise, getting goosebumps. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:01 And I'm so scared. I'm just frozen there. I can't move. Like I said, there's guns like 20 feet away. I just got to get up and grab one. So it's about 100 feet, like, where it hit. I'm freaked out. I'm so, so scared.
Starting point is 00:29:16 About another 10 minutes past, there was an old Porsche car, like 30 feet from where I'm sitting. boom boom boom I'm literally like in tears at this point the dogs are making no noise and it's freaking me out and I'm like there's somebody about to come in the house at that very moment my aunt-uncle were living us at the time came flying down the driveway and their convertible blaring music
Starting point is 00:29:36 I come out I'm ballin they just take me into town and they're like you know we'll come back out in the morning and deal with it well Nick's dad is retired military police retired detective they were home the next day well he came out and he heard the story and it was just me, dad, and him. And he's like, you know, he's like, Bill, it was, that's my dad. He's like, it was a guy with a sledgehammer. I found where your son said he hit stuff, and I've seen this stuff, but he hit everything with a sledgehammer four times.
Starting point is 00:30:05 And I'm like, no, it was three times. I remember it's burnt in forever. It was three times. Everything, was three. He's like, no, it was four. And dad's like, well, why do you think it was four times and why do you think it was a sledgehammer? Well, we'd go to the barn and like eight, nine, nine, feet off the ground, you can see four big indentations. So he's like, the only reason you could only reach up there is with a sledgehammer, you know, doing the full swing, and you can see the four marks he hit. They were right in a row. Later on, we found, you know, knuckle marks of just something punch in the same spot. Just making noise. So that's the first big year after about October, everything stops. All the weird stuff kind of goes away and everything goes right back to
Starting point is 00:30:49 normal. April the next year, it all kicks back up to 10. The piles of stuff are like huge. I'm not like, hay bales, car hoods, saw horses. Oh, just stuff moved around?
Starting point is 00:31:02 Yeah, but it was getting put into like piles in the corner of the fence and stuff. Yeah. Just huge piles of stuff. My dad's now convinced it's a guy coming on our property and doing this to us and screwing with us. And he'd been out there trying to shoot whoever this guy was and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:31:15 He was going to do it too. My mom, that was the year my mom was diagnosed with cancer. So everybody in the family was just on end, on edge. And now this guy's coming onto the property and just really, really screwing with us. So my dad would have killed him if he got a chance. He would have. So that year, though, my really expensive chickens started going missing. We could have been missing other chickens before, but we'd have never known.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Oh, one little thing I did forget is why the bin was getting left open. A lot of grain was missing. It was horse grain, which anybody that's had horses knows, it's malacist based. So it's really sweet to the taste. You know, it's basically it's candy if you're an animal. Or you don't get to candy. You know, if you don't get to go buy something, it's really sweet. So that was, a lot of horse grain was missing. I could have been missing chickens that first year, but they were like the egg layers and stuff. You know, we had 200 of them in a building. I didn't know. What had known, it was five of them missing. These guys, though, all had names. And, you know, we were selling some of their eggs for an egg for $60,70
Starting point is 00:32:20 because it was a showbird, you know, it could win. They started going missing. Now the whole fence was electrified. You can't get into it. The only way you could get into it, there was a nest box you could open with your hand and flip it open and take a bird out and close it back up. And then the door, there was like
Starting point is 00:32:38 a normal door you could open and close. Nothing was breaking into it. Somebody was stealing chickens. So we went and got a red healer. Her name was Luce. see she was an absolute monster I mean this dog was we bought her from the Amos she was trained to
Starting point is 00:32:54 protect the farm and she would kill everything we came home not farm animals but any raccoon any fox any animal that wasn't supposed to be there after night she would murder I mean this dog was a monster one day we came home and she was covered in blood
Starting point is 00:33:10 and we couldn't find a cut on her it was two coyotes she had killed so she got him pinned and just started ripping at him until they were dead like I say this dog had no fear of nothing. So when we did this, all the stuff stopped for like a month. What Lucy got in the habit of doing is she would patrol the tree line and if a raccoon kept running into the woods, she'd stop.
Starting point is 00:33:35 She knew that it's gone, the threats moved on. The problem we're running into is if they ran up the first tree. Because in her head, she can still see it. It hasn't left to the threat selection. she'd sit there and she would bark all night until you went down there and you took a, you know, something to knock the raccoon out of the tree and it could run away or she could get it, whatever. But once it needed to move off of the property where she could see it.
Starting point is 00:34:01 So one thing I didn't mention is that we had four wheeler trails and horse trails cut through the woods. You know, they're just like cookie cutter punches. We ride horses. My dad had installed stadium lights for work in horses. My mom and me showed horses. So horses don't sweat like we. do, you know, they can overheat really easy. So we worked them at night so the horses wouldn't get too hot. And it's like for training and stuff like that. So one night, Lucy is barking at a raccoon, we assume.
Starting point is 00:34:29 And she's just going nuts, going nuts, going on. So me and Luke, that's my brother with muscular dystrophy. Going and get like a baseball bat and a golf club to go knock this raccoon out of the tree so it could run off in the woods or whatever. We start walking and Lucy's standing in front of one of the holes, which is really, really, really, really Because why she's barking there, a raccoon could run into the woods. It was weird. We get like 30 feet away from her, and we see it. And I say it's Luke stopped, but he'd already stopped. These giant Sartreuse eyes were just looking down at Lucy.
Starting point is 00:35:05 You see him blink slow, blink slow. The third blink, they're staring right at us. And I remember trying to tell Luke, like, don't run, don't run. We ran. We were back to the house. We were in tears. My dad had had enough, and this is the guy. And, you know, he gets the gun, and he stands right there.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Lucy's still barking in the same spot. And he's like, you am after, you know, you've scared of my kids. You've ruined, you know, you've messed with our life. Come out of the woods. Right now, I'm going to start shooting in the woods. It counts the three. Me and Luke are standing outside. Counts three.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Nobody comes out, obviously. So dad aims into the top of the trees, shoots about 10 feet in the woods. It sounds like a bice. and is just ripping through the woods. Dad falls back, runs up to the house, you know, takes us inside, and he's just like, I wasn't a guy, wasn't a guy, wasn't a guy, wasn't a guy,
Starting point is 00:35:56 all he would say. Like I said, we didn't really talk about it for years. And like my mom was going through non-Hopians and Phoma, which is a hard one to beat for cancer. Yeah. So, you know, like, so we just, you know, other life events happen. We moved out of the country.
Starting point is 00:36:12 We moved into town. You know, we gave up the farm because mom was the big pusher of the farm. and when she was sick, you know, obviously. So there's the short version of the Bigfoot encounters. So I've seen the outline, I seen the silhouette, you know, the big head, the big shoulders. That's all I really remember. I didn't see any good facial features. I didn't, you know, the eyes, I was 16 at that time.
Starting point is 00:36:32 The eyes were just, they were about three inches apart, so that's just a huge face. Okay. But Star Shrews, it wasn't glowing, it was shine from the big light. But you know how like, when you're standing behind the light source, you kind of just look like a big shadow. That was the effect we were getting due to the stadium light. So where me and Luke were standing, we were kind of standing in the light, and it was in the shadows. So, yeah, there's the short version.
Starting point is 00:36:55 I'm sure you've analyzed that a few times as a biologist. Is there anything that lives in that area that could account for what you saw? No, I mean, personally, I would say no. You know, everybody just brings up Black Bears. No, like, I think Black Bear sightings are a lot of road sightings maybe when you're driving really fast. Like on the highway, you'll see something big and black in the woods real fast. Sure, that could be a bear. But when you are 30 feet away from this thing, and bears don't have shoulders.
Starting point is 00:37:26 I've been with grizzly bears don't have shoulders. They're huge animals, but you don't have that big football pad look to them. So in our part of Ohio, it would be the only large mammal that could even get to close that. But it was probably about seven and a half foot tall. So it wasn't one of the monsters you hear about, you know, the nine, the ten foot. But he was for a 17-year-old kid that weighed 100 pounds, it was plenty big enough. Did you ever talk to any neighbors or research the area to see if other people had seen similar things? Not for almost a decade.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Okay. Because we started doing the podcast. And if anybody listens to our show, check out the Greg interview. Bigfoot Society will be right back after these messages. This is Daniel Fischel. And Ryder Strong from PodMeets World. Cat parents unite. We have to look out for each other. There's a little voice that says, what if I mess up?
Starting point is 00:40:26 What if I'm not ready? I see a whole highlight reel of everything I don't want to happen. Missed shots, turnovers, letting my team down. And for a second, there's doubt. But then I realize I've done enough to be where I'm at. The early mornings, the extra reps, the days I wanted to quit and didn't. So I smile. Self-doubt is natural, but my smile is a reminder that I'm resilient.
Starting point is 00:40:53 To put more smiles out into the world, Colgate has supported female athletes for over 50 years with the Colgate Women's Games. The Colgate Women's Games is the nation's longest running indoor track and field series for girls and women. Colgate, your smile is your strength. He grew up with my dad. He had an encounter with Bigfoot two miles from where we did the same year. but he never talked about it until we started doing the podcast stuff and he was like I knew this guy a whole life growing up you know never ever didn't like Bigfoot didn't talk about Bigfoot he shared on our show one time we had to start getting he had a drink for a half hour
Starting point is 00:41:50 before he could even talk about it because he was he's six foot five he's just this mountain of a man and he talks about how imposing this thing was to him and yeah so uh no so several farmers and locals did come forward after. And that 2011 was a huge spike in our area. We look up the BFRO, go to Hardin County, Ohio, and it's about the only group of sightings. I think some of them have been removed now, and I don't have any idea why. But if somebody's researching it, I know that, you know, sometimes they'll pull those just for a time to look into it more. But we had a spike in 2011, and then it went back down to nothing. Mine never made it on, ever. And I send it in, and I don't know if I'm not a great type or if anybody's ever seen anything I write or anything like that it's
Starting point is 00:42:38 rough so there could have been something with that you know it was but yeah mine never made it in and I submitted it but that's it's their website absolutely so there's a short Bigfoot encounter but I think it was a juvenile male that was eating food so a horse grain I think he was eating a lot of the horse grain because it's super sweet like I said and it's you know it's very you know addictive if you don't get those chances. I think he got mad at the dog because he was coming on to the property every night and that dog then started stopping him from being able to do that under the cover. I think if we wouldn't have coming outside, Lucy probably wouldn't have been a dog very much longer kind of deal. We've all in this room have heard their horror stories, but
Starting point is 00:43:20 dogs in Bigfoot do not get along. I don't think Bigfoot mess with people very often as far as the actual danger. It's like the 911 call that you hear on most. Bigfoot podcast except for mine. Yeah. There you go. Poor dogs. Thank you for sharing that. I could tell you actually were, you were going right back to that.
Starting point is 00:43:40 It took a long time to being able to share it like this and stuff like that. But yeah. I'm sure that your podcast is similar to mine and that you open up your email and you have people just contacting you every single day. Yeah, that's probably. It can be overwhelming, but it's amazing. It's great. It's great, like to be the one that gets these.
Starting point is 00:44:00 reports and then to be able to follow up on them. Have you found that, okay, once you get a lot of Bigfoot reports for Ohio? Yeah. Not our part of Ohio, but where I'm from, not here. I'm from northwest Ohio, the corn part of the state. Ohio's got four big biospheres. I'm from the flat part. So not a ton. We get more locally, like people will come up to us and share. But the Hawking, Salt Fork, the east side of Ohio. is big foot heavy. So I was going to ask you, because what I found from mine is that I'll start, it's almost like the meme where you have the guy with the red strings on the wall
Starting point is 00:44:43 and you're like connecting them. And you start to figure out, oh, okay, there's another one from this area. Have you figured out any potential hotspot areas that you've actually gone and investigated yourself because of your podcast? One time, we only went one time, like I said earlier, I got a bad knee. So going out and doing stuff is really hard, let alone bring in equipment and stuff like that now. So we only went one time, and it was, I'll tell you guys, everybody can go. It's a state park.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Conkel's Hollow, which is in Honking Hills, which has an extreme amount of big foot encounters in that area. And they're very unique big foot encounters. We've got tons turned into us. Some we don't share publicly because they ask not to. They more want opinions. Same. You know, and you get the same stuff. with that area, the encounters are really scary.
Starting point is 00:45:31 But I mean, tree shaking, noises, bluff charges, the throwing pebbles and stuff like that. My opinion about the rock throwing and stuff, if they wanted to hit you with a rock, they would hit you with a rock. If they're not hitting you with a rock, it's for a reason, whether they're either trying to scare you off
Starting point is 00:45:47 or get your attention or get you to look away. So with that part of hocking, why the encounters, like people say they get followed all the way back to their cars until they leave. And, you know, the stuff won't stop until they leave. My opinion is that these animals are extremely migratory. And when I say that, some people get tripped up on that word. They're not migrating due to weather.
Starting point is 00:46:11 I can't tell you how many emails we get saying, oh, Bigfoot's not scared of the cold. Never said they were migrating because it was snowing. There's Bigfoot in Alaska. They're doing just fine in Alaska. I think it's more food-driven. If they're that large, you know, we're talking about a lot. of calories being taken up. And if you don't want to be found, you know, with your presence
Starting point is 00:46:29 noticed, you've got to kind of keep moving. And I think it's also reproductively driven. I don't think they reproduce every year. I think it's more like us, you know, where a female will reproduce several times in her life or whatever. I think they pick these areas that are hyper-safe and easily defendable. And the reason these encounters, I think this area is one of them, where they give birth or reproduce in some way. I think these areas are one of them because the encounters are so so scary. Nobody ever gets hurt as far as we know. Nobody ever gets hit with a rock. Nobody, you know, but they're terrifying. They're false charging. They're throwing sticks. They're shaking the branches. That's a big one in that part of hawking is they'll grab these two trees and just
Starting point is 00:47:08 shake them. It's to make sure you don't come back. You've got too close, in my opinion, to a really small big foot, like a real baby. And they're making sure you know that do not come back here, you know, they're keeping their kids safe. And we see that in a lot of primate troops. I don't know if Bigfoot is a primate. You know, we all have mixed opinions of what Bigfoot is, sure. But as far as behaviors, we look for the animal kingdom, between us and the animal kingdom for behaviors and kind of match them up to what we see in Saskatch Sports. That's one I would say. Conkles Hollow is a beautiful park. It has an accessibility one, and it has a real hiking trail. So there's both there. If your accessibility is limited, oh, you got bad knee like me,
Starting point is 00:47:51 there's a trail for that. This is Daniel Fischel. And Ryder Strong from PodMeet world. Cat parents unite. We have to look out for each other. Yes, we all know the feeling of being ignored by our little babies a little too well. Yeah, I often wonder to myself, does my cat even love me? Well, there's only one solution to solve that. Sheba. Missed shots, turnovers, letting my team down. And for a second, there's doubt. But then I realize I've done enough to be where I'm at. The early mornings, the extra reps,
Starting point is 00:50:18 the days I wanted to quit and didn't. So, I smile. Self-doubt is natural, but my smile is a reminder that I'm resilient. To put more smiles out into the world, Colgate has supported female athletes for over 50 years with the Colgate Women's Games. The Colgate Women's Games is the nation's longest running indoor track and field series for girls and women. Colgate, your smile is your strength.
Starting point is 00:50:45 If not, they have a really, it's this really cool ravine. And when you get there, you can really get the feeling of why there could be something 10 feet off there. You know, you could have a man about 30 feet away from you. You probably never know it's awesome. Thank you for sharing that. I know it's great when people in the community can share things. And I know there's not a lot of sharing, but it's always great when someone can share something like that. And yeah, I mean, go out and enjoy the state parks.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Absolutely. Like a lot of Ohio sightings are car sightings. We have a lot, a lot, a lot of car sightings. And it's people driving around at night in the state national forest. and enjoying themselves and a Bigfoot runs out right before, right after. I don't know why they do that. To me, why won't you wait until the car's down the road a little bit?
Starting point is 00:51:35 But they do this. Absolutely. So we are going to do a hard transition to talk about my favorite Cryptids of the Corn episode, which is the hyena episode. Has anyone heard the hyena episode from Cryptids of the Corn? Yeah. Then you're in for a treat.
Starting point is 00:51:54 So is it possible to do a elevator? Vader pitch for what happens. We'll do really fast. All right, go ahead. Hainas. Anybody seen a hyena in North America? Just checking. Just putting that out there. No, so a long time ago, a guy named Sean Vananus, Vanahus, however you say his last name, great listener to the show, good friend of ours now, sent me an email saying, hey, when I was young, I seen a hyena, here's where I seen a hyena. He's like, I thought it was some beached. I don't know if it's an episode or whatever. So I'm like, whatever, I'll look into it. A lot of hyenas are seen in North America.
Starting point is 00:52:26 and by a lot, I mean a lot of hyenas are seen in North America. So we started looking into it. We did a documentary, and there's a second documentary coming out about it like we're working on already. An extra. And there's an extra half hour of the first one that never got released of encounters and going to these encounters and showing you this stuff. So how could a hyena be in North America? The first thing you think of is zoos and pets, right? Escaping.
Starting point is 00:52:52 It doesn't have to do anything with it or doesn't have to be related to those events. So in the early 1900s, you could order any big game animal from a back of a magazine. I'm talking to lion cubs, grizzly bear cubs, you could get big megafauna delivered to your house for $25 off of a back of a magazine. So some of our research we found in three years in the early 1910s, there were about 3,000 hyenas imported to the U.S. in a year. Where do they all go? you know when you buy this hyena cub and you think it's going to be your dog and it gets to be 150 pounds and it can bite through your leg in one go they have crazy jaw pressure yeah I'm sure some people shot him I'm sure half the people are just like
Starting point is 00:53:37 well go live well how could a hyena survive you know and why don't we see him so that's great there's great questions you guys do a good job no so hyenas have really cool biology they're really really tough uh PG Oh, I'm not going to talk about that. Okay, all right. Yeah. There's some non-PG biology about hyenas. If anybody wants to know, talk to me later.
Starting point is 00:54:00 Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. No, I won't go into that. No, they're really good at adapting to cold and altitude. Hyenas can be found on mountaintops to the deep savannah. They are completely fine with below freezing temperatures and even sub-zero temperatures for short periods of time. So hyenas, the modern species we have lived all the way into the UK and actually almost all the way to Siberia.
Starting point is 00:54:22 And humans were the big reason their range is restricted to Africa and some of the Middle East. So hyenas, the species we have now are completely capable of surviving pretty much anywhere in North America, besides like the really northern part of the Yukon. Now with their behaviors, everybody's seen the hyenas on TV or in person, they're loud, right? They're voisterous, their pack animals, they kind of get goofy. They have two sets of biological behaviors. So when they're in big groups, they're like that. They're loud.
Starting point is 00:54:51 They're noisy. they don't care if they're seen or whatever. They completely flip the switch when it's just one or two hyenas. They become almost identical to big cat behaviors. They get super secretive. They don't make noise. They become fully nocturnal.
Starting point is 00:55:06 They avoid humans completely. So hyenas aren't dogs and they're not cats. They're their own group of animals. They're much more close related to things like musculids. So your mink, your weasels, your skunks. I know they look like a canid. They're not a canid in any part of their biology. So that's why they can switch into this, like big cat roll.
Starting point is 00:55:24 So in our opinion, what happened is a bunch of hyenas got reintroduced to North America. Our hyena that lived here just went extinct 11,000 years ago. So there was already a hyenae here relatively recently. They got reintroduced. People shot at them, and they hid. And they are in very, very limited numbers. They're probably carcass surfacing off of highways. Almost all of our sightings are road sightings, where people are driving late at night,
Starting point is 00:55:48 and they see a hyena stand up and carrying a deer carcass off the road, right? Because it's food. You know, why would you, there's no need for a hyena to hunt in North America if you just follow a road. You know, there's plenty of deer or skunk or whatever to eat. In the early 1900s, like in the 1920s and 30s, we had like bulldog bears, what they were being called. And bugger bears and these animals that were popping up all over North America that were killing cattle. They were killing deer. And they said they looked kind of like a bear, but their heads were really well.
Starting point is 00:56:18 wide like a dog. So they called them bulldog bears. It was the own name we used a lot in the documentary. So a hyena kind of looks like halfway between a bear and a bulldog. And their bite pressure, like they were killing these cows out in Nebraska by just biting their guts and yanking. That's what hyenas do to big mammals is they use their jaw pressure to just put one kill blow and then they kind of back off. And you know, the animal, you're not going to survive that. You know, you're going to die eventually. So that's our whole kind of theory with hyenas. I'm talking, after we did the first episode, we got flooded with encounters, we did the documentary, we got flooded with encounters. Because most people don't report them, because you see it and you think, oh, some guy down the road must own a hyena and it's out.
Starting point is 00:57:02 You know what a hyena looks like. So that's an actual definition of cryptid, is an out-of-place animal. Michigan's have a problem in one of their forests with emus that are reproducing right now. Emus apparently can survive the weather quite fine. We have them here in Ohio. We have emu farms that survive all year outside. They're good parents. So they establish, there's not many things in Michigan that can eat an adult emu, let alone try to steal its babies.
Starting point is 00:57:28 So I think the same thing happened with these hyenas, and they're just in the reclusive form. But how many weird sounds, we've, Bigfoot people have talked about it a lot, where you get almost the laughs. Yes. And what if that is, every once in a while, you get a hyena nearby. And it could be a co-vergent like habitat where if it's good for a big foot, it's good for a hyena kind of deal. You know, we see that with species. Both spotted and brown hyenas are seen in North America. So it's really easy to tell them part.
Starting point is 00:57:57 One's got spots. One doesn't. Super easy. But browns have the shaggy hair and stuff like that. Browns almost look, when you see a spotted hyena, browns almost look like sick because they're a lot, like they're hunched over more. They look, you know. But yeah, there's hyenas in North America. So if you hear it laughing in the middle of the night in the woods, it may be Bigfoot, maybe a hyena.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Bigfoot Society will be right back after these messages. This is Daniel Fischel. And Ryder Strong from PodMeet's World. Cat parents unite. We have to look out for each other. Yes, we all know the feeling of being ignored by our little babies a little too well. Yeah, I often wonder to myself, does my cat even love me? Well, there's only one solution to solve that.
Starting point is 00:58:46 Sheba. Feed your cat, Sheba, and go from feeling ignored to... to truly adored in 12 days guaranteed or your money back. There's a little voice that says, what if I mess up?
Starting point is 01:00:37 What if I'm not ready? I see a whole highlight reel of everything I don't want to happen. Missed shots, turnovers, letting my team down. And for a second, there's doubt. But then, I realize I've done enough to be where I'm at. The early mornings, the extra reps, the days I wanted to quit and didn't. So, I smile. Self-doubt is natural, but my smile is a reminder that I'm resilient.
Starting point is 01:01:05 To put more smiles out into the world, Colgate has supported female athletes for over 50 years with the Colgate Women's Games. The Colgate Women's Games is the nation's longest running indoor track and field series for girls and women. Colgate, your smile is your strength. Have you found a lot of reports coming from certain areas or are they spread out? It is. Almost every state we have at least one report from at this point. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:49 Oh. I'm talking even Alaska's had a couple of high-knit sightings. A Canada, we've gotten a bunch from Canada that it's too hard for us to deal with those right this second. Because I've never been to Canada. these areas that are popping up. There's no rhyme or reason, really, from the map we've kind of built so far with this phenomena. It's very rare to seem near big metropolitan areas.
Starting point is 01:02:11 That's about the only thing, but it's about the same with Bigfoot. Not saying they don't ever get close to a big metropolitan area, just rare for those things to happen. Are they ever seen in caves or around caves? Yes. Okay. Yeah, Kentucky. The Mammoth Cave area has a bunch of hanging sightings. Oh, dear.
Starting point is 01:02:27 But, I mean, it makes sense. those are shelters for animals. I don't have anybody seen that recent video of the cavers out west crawled super deep into this cave they shouldn't have, and they started hearing the... And he rounds the corner, and it's a mountain lion. They had cornered this mountain lion. So in the mountain lion's defense,
Starting point is 01:02:47 these people had, quote-unquote, chased it all the way down in this deep dark cave, and now it's turned around, and it's not happy. And these people are just sitting there laughing about it. Like, oh, look like a big cat in here with us. It's not good. Yeah, that's not good. Not a smart move.
Starting point is 01:03:04 From all the reports you've received, what do you think the closest someone has gotten to one of these hyenas when they've said? They've taken stuff out of trucks. Really? Yeah, so everybody's heard the dog band stuff. Like the, I'm just blanking on it, the Beast Bay Road, where the guy that's cleaning up carcasses had the carcasses disappear. That's happened with the hyena phenomena too,
Starting point is 01:03:26 where they kind of see them out of the rearview mirror and, like, leaning up to grab, like, a deer or whatever they have in the back and yank it and run. The garbage truck guy from the documentary was about one of the closest full-bodied encounters we've had. It was right at dusk, so we don't get a lot of the day encounters. And that wouldn't make sense biologically for the hyenas. We talk about when they're in low numbers, they switch to being fully nocturnal. So people aren't, you know, you don't get to see a big distance at night and stuff like that.
Starting point is 01:03:54 So this garbage truck driver said that basically a hyena was stealing garbage and he feels that he was just, the high name may be running a little bit late that day. And so it normally had probably been done by the time he comes around to collect this stuff. But yeah, very close. I mean, people have been, me to you, you know, from these things. Do you think this, is the scientific community on board with this, or is this a thing where you kind of get pushed back about it? All right, so it's good question.
Starting point is 01:04:20 Okay. It's a mixed back. Okay. And that's all, it's, the science, one thing you'll learn from our show is there's no such thing as the scientific way of thinking. because science in itself, scientists, high-level scientists, they're both extremely credible in the same field,
Starting point is 01:04:35 can disagree about a subject, completely. So when somebody says, well, this is what science says, you can find the exact same article of the opposite opinion from somebody that's just as credible. So you can, I can't announce it yet, but there is a state official
Starting point is 01:04:55 that maybe has proof of a hyena where they're from. stop it. And they didn't know that this as a phenomenon like this. They thought it was an exotic that got out from somebody's farm. So they're trying to figure out like, well, who locally has a hyena illegally?
Starting point is 01:05:13 Do they have video or? There's physical proof. Dude. That's awesome. Look out for part two. Oh, part two is going to be great. Even better than part one, which I suppose possible. I mean, we don't know how to film anything, but yeah. So I will say
Starting point is 01:05:27 Justin Crypt is of the the corns have these amazing documentaries you can watch on YouTube. I highly recommend them. What are some other ones you have besides the hyena? So right now it's just hyena and it's the giant catfish in North America. We actually have another one coming out here later this year, urban homesteading. We do what we want, right? That's what we do. So I homestead in my town.
Starting point is 01:05:53 So we're kind of walking you through the process. You don't have to go full bore and do this. But how to have a medicine garden, how to raise some quail, how to, you know, have berries in your yard and stuff like that. I live in a quarter of an acre, and I've canned enough food probably this past two years to last a decade out of my little yard. And just kind of, so that's kind of one. Yeah. We also have this.
Starting point is 01:06:13 Thank you. Good thing this was right in front of my face. Actually, you were going to get a few minutes up the very end. So I would love to transition to this. If you can talk about this amazing event you have up. So we're putting on, Crips is putting on the Ohio Bigfoot Jamboree. It's October 5th and 8, Ohio at the Norwich Lane's Bowling Alley. Check out the Facebook page and all the information's there.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Kind of deal, that's the best way. We get to speak at all these amazing events, and we get to go all over the country and do this stuff. And we actually been invited to other countries to speak. Really? We had turned down with the girls this year and stuff like that. But we've been very blessed, and we really wanted to bring something home to our community. Like this side of Ohio gets all the attention goods. It deserves it.
Starting point is 01:06:56 but we're all driving like I tell you what from our town to like a Hocking Hills Pick a festival over here there's like a carload of people or several cars you have to drive all the way down for that festival's three hours away so we're bringing one home one of the speakers is actually in the audience Jake Dressel hey all right Jake but no I love Jake to death but it's the bending area is free for the public the speakers are tickets they're already half sold out as of recording this or doing this publicly So if you want tickets, space is limited, but it's only 50 bucks a ticket. We're making $0.
Starting point is 01:07:31 We're doing this for fun. We'll make that very clear. There's going to be a lot of science-based stuff. A couple of the Bigfoot researchers, like everybody here probably knows B-Mills. Love B to Death. She has a brand-new presentation for our events exclusively. She's debuting at our event. So I love B-to-death.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Joel Thomas has done a lot of documentaries. Oh, cool, yeah. So Joel's one of the speakers. So he's going to kind of talk about that of how you go out and do these. things while you're trying to do with the film crew and they have your flavor. We're speaking. Oh, and John Hickenbottom, the state naturalist. Love John to death.
Starting point is 01:08:05 Anybody ever heard? John's great. Best mustache in Ohio. He's won that several times. But yeah, there's going to be food 50-50. There's a charity event. Like I said, we were out Ronald McDonald's House for a long period of time, so there's a charity event, typically kind of geared towards that.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Like, relaxed is the feel. If you listen to our show and you get to know us, we're very much relaxed. Oh, yeah. So that's the goal. Justin, in the last few minutes, is there anything else that you would like to make sure the audience knows about your podcast, how they can listen to you guys, how they can follow along, all that good stuff? So available on every podcast catcher, everywhere you listen to any show you're listening to right now, we're available. We also, cribsicorn.com is our website. You can listen to everything there.
Starting point is 01:08:46 We do several other smaller shows that we just kind of do for the fun of it. Like, Freaky Forenton of Friday is My Pet Project where you get it to learn like 15 minutes about a freak of nature every week. this week's was the inland Taipan, one of the most venomous snakes in the world but it's very docile it does not want to
Starting point is 01:09:01 just don't pick it up you're not going to get bit if you don't pick it up but yeah those things you can find all the information we have the Facebook group oh we do Cubs and Coffee
Starting point is 01:09:10 every Tuesday morning 9 a.m. Eastern Standard time it's an hour of just kind of hanging out on Facebook live and Instagram live and on YouTube live
Starting point is 01:09:18 just hanging out for an hour just talking about what happened this week and just relax and kind of thing I think that's pretty much it. Jay is normally the promoter. I'm so bad at this.
Starting point is 01:09:28 You guys make a good duo. So if you're into Bigfoot Society, I would really recommend that you start listening to Justin Crypt is of the Corn. You will love it. And to everyone who's here watching live, thank you so much. I appreciate you all listening.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Literally, I could not do what I do without the support of you all listening. And there's a few Patreon members here as well. I appreciate you guys more than you know. And if you haven't listened to either Crypters of the Corn or Bigfoot Society, please give it a try. Take it a try. Start with the hyena episode. That's a great one.
Starting point is 01:10:02 Yeah, and that one took a life of its own kind of deal. Absolutely. And if you want to start with none of mine, listen to the last year's live episode with Martin Groves is a really fun one to listen to. But have a good one with all of them. And I just want to say thank you guys for being here. Alex Pedicoff. And we are live at Monster Fest in Canton, Ohio. So I just wanted to catch up with Alex.
Starting point is 01:10:35 What have you been up to, man? What haven't I been out to is the question. I've been doing my series Strange Places, as well as plenty of Bigfoot beyond the trail. Kind of like balancing 50-50 now between Bigfoot stuff and then strange places, doing a lot of stuff. UFOs, weird locations, doing some stuff on this crazy radar base, abandoned radar base in Vermont that's connected to the Betty and Barney Hill abduction.
Starting point is 01:11:01 So that's a fun one. Brown Mountain Light stuff with Hell Bent Haller. Gosh, we got a lot of crazy stuff coming up. A lot of cool Pacific Northwest Bigfoot stuff, too. That's a little bit of a teaser. I was going to fish for a teaser, so there is potentially Bigfoot stuff coming. Plenty of it, yeah. There's going to be some direct follow-ups to previous beyond-the-trail episodes in the Pacific Northwest.
Starting point is 01:11:23 So keep out for that, and there's going to be other cool stuff, strange places out there as well. Yeah, we're just keeping busy. You know, we're doing a lot of stuff at STM. We've always got many, you know, coals in the fire kind of thing. So we've also got some incredible documentaries coming up, but I can't, unfortunately, disclose any details. But some major stuff. Ooh, more to come.
Starting point is 01:11:41 I love it. Thank you, Alex, for spending a few minutes with us, and I hope the rest of the day goes well. For sure. All right, we got Aaron Dees here at Monster Fest 2. How's it going, Aaron? It is going great, Jeremiah. It is so good to see it.
Starting point is 01:11:55 And what is the thing that you are looking forward to about today the most? I am just most excited to see everybody come together, to see the community just, you know, gather over a shared passion. People come from all over the place for this, all over the country. So it's very exciting to see that and just be a part of that energy. Absolutely. So good to see you again. Thanks for chatting, Aaron. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:12:19 So guys, this is Matt Arner. We've talked to him. He is the gentleman that we talked to about Bigfoot in the Poconos and other areas. And he's from the Sasquatch Experience podcast, correct? How's it going, man? It's going great. It absolutely is fantastic, and I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to be here with you, too. Absolutely. You got any cool updates about Bigfoot stuff out in Pennsylvania? Well, right now, our area is kind of off limits. And the reason why I'm saying it's off limits is nature doesn't necessarily want us to be there.
Starting point is 01:12:54 It's rattlesnake season. And just the terrain. is just extremely rough for walking, and it's a little hot out there. So we're letting nature, you know, basically, you know, keep its area nice and quiet. And then hopefully soon I'll be able to go up and record some evidence from our wildlife recorders and trail cams. That's awesome. We'll definitely keep in touch if you're able to get any cool evidence. It's always fun chatting with you, dude.
Starting point is 01:13:30 I will always let you know because we're always big fans of the show. Thanks, Matt. All right, we got Jeff from Strangology here. He is frantically trying to set up his booth in the last minutes before the VIP come. How's it going, Jeff? You know, it's going well this morning. We're just kind of trying to put everything together and have a nice display for all the VIPs and the general attendance all throughout.
Starting point is 01:13:59 the day for Monster Fest. What do you think the hot item is going to be at the Strange ology booth this year? Oh, well I've got these brand new shirts called the Fordian Social Club shirts. First time at an event I think people are going to love them. Dude, I love it. How can people get that if they're not here? Well, I've got an Etsy shop, strangeology. Etsy.com where you can grab that shirt as well as dozens of other designs for cryptids, aliens, and all out Fortiana. This thing is so great. All right, we got Jeff Craig from the map in black here at Monster Fest 2. How's it going, man?
Starting point is 01:14:35 Doing well, excited for a big event this year. I was here last year, and it's looking like it's shaping up to be even bigger this year. I'm telling you, people at Van Meter, they're always like, is that map guy back? So, dude, people love your stuff. What do you think the top thing this year at Monster Fest is going to be for you? The top thing for me is I just always see in the community, whether it's the people, that attend or my fellow vendors and Jeremiah, who I met at Van Meter a year and a half ago. I wish I could have come back last year.
Starting point is 01:15:09 I love Van Meter. I love Iowa. And that sounds really weird. So I'm like a political candidate. Well, if you are political candidate, you should come to Iowa. Always fun to chat with you. I'm glad that you're here this year. But thanks for chatting, Jeff.

Starting point is 01:18:51 Always great to see him. I'm actually wearing a shirt that says, I collect Bigfoot stories that he designed. So I'm a huge fan. I mean, you even did the logo. So great to see you, Jonathan, again. Good to see you, too. Thanks for coming out and documenting the show. I'm really stoked for this.
Starting point is 01:19:07 Absolutely. Do you have a big, new thing for Monster Fest this year? Yes. Yes, I have a few new prints out right now. I have the Remember Only You Can Prevent Toxic Swamps. It's a Smokey the Bear version of The Mothman. And I have a new Bigfoot print. It's called Bigfoot Origins, and it has a gigantopithecus skull.
Starting point is 01:19:31 It's got a woo-woo UFO on there and then a DNA strand. Jonathan, thanks for being here. We always appreciate seeing you. Thank you. Have a good one. dude. Nailed it. Hey, we got a special individual here. We got Ken Gearhart, Cryptozoologist. How's it going today, Ken? It's going great, brother. So good to be here. Absolutely. It was fun riding from the airport to Canton with you yesterday. But what kind of cool stuff you got at your
Starting point is 01:20:06 table today? Well, I have a selection of all my books, all six, and a couple of DVDs, stickers and photos, the usual fare for this type of event. Got any cool projects that you're working on or some maybe secret stuff? Well, I do have a secret project, a little teaser, something that will hopefully develop later this year that I'm excited about, potential expedition in, I think, a very promising area. Other than that, I've been teaching online cryptozoology courses, so that's something that people are interested in.
Starting point is 01:20:42 They can reach out to me. We cover a wide range of cryptids. It's a sixth class course. It comes with a certificate. And so far I've had three sessions, and all the students have been very excited about it. I know my buddy Scott has been loving that, but what's the best way people can reach out to you for that?
Starting point is 01:20:57 Well, of course, they can find me on my website, Ken Gerhardt.com, and I'm also on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, and all those other platforms. All right, thank you, Ken. No, no, it's going to be quick, yeah. We got Eli Watson here, director extraordinaire from Small Town Monsters. How's it going, dude? It's good, man.
Starting point is 01:21:17 I'm glad to be here. Dude, I was so excited to see Ogopogo. I got emotional. It was great. How did you feel about the premiere last night? I think it went well. I'm just happy that people actually like it. How can people watch this movie?
Starting point is 01:21:34 Well, now you can get a copy on Blu-ray and DVD, I believe. But it will be out later this month in July. for Amazon Prime, I believe. Awesome. Eli, always a pleasure to chat with you. Hey, thanks. Thank you, dude. Yeah, no problem.
Starting point is 01:21:52 You guys, we got Lyle Blackburn here. Lyle's a cryptozoologist. He's been on the podcast before. How's it going, Lyle? It's going great. Dude, it's always good to see you at festivals like this. But what do you got going on right now? Any cool new stuff coming up, man?
Starting point is 01:22:07 Well, I've been working on a new book as I have time. It's about the infamous Lakeworth Monaster. which is a legendary creature phenomenon that occurred in Texas in 1969, only about 30 minutes from where I live. So it's one of those sort of my hometown monsters, and it really needs a book. People keep asking me about it, and it's kind of a legendary Bigfoot meets Goatman type thing.
Starting point is 01:22:34 I love that. My audience will be happy to hear that. That comes up every once in a while from my listeners. So it would be exciting to see that come out, see that come out, but thanks so much for chatting for a bit, Lyle. You bet. Thanks, man. Here we got Mark Muncie from the Erie Travels podcast here. How's it going, Mark? Oh, good, doing well. Greetings Travelers. Thanks for coming here to Small Town Monster Fest too in Canton, Ohio. Absolutely. What kind of stuff you got at your booth today, Mark? Well, we've got the books.
Starting point is 01:23:04 I did three of the Erie Florida book series, Erie Florida, Freaky Florida, and Creepy Florida. and then I ran out of adjectives, so I did Erie Appalachia. And then the sequel to that, Erie Smoky Mountains is coming a little bit later this year. And then my wife, the illustrator, she's the real talent. She also illustrated a natural Ohio for history press. And so we've got that here too. Then we've got her art and then some of her crochet as well, because she's the talent. I just do words.
Starting point is 01:23:34 Absolutely. So Smoky Mountains, that's going to be awesome. Can you give any sneak peek about that? Yeah, well, it's basically a round trip. So you start in Chattanooga and then head into Severeville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge. But we've got every little holler monster, unusual place that you can stay. It's basically a seven-day road trip around the mountains and filled with dark history, ghosts, monsters, spear finger, Cherokee legends, and all kinds of fun stuff.
Starting point is 01:24:04 So that is going to go so well. Oh my goodness. I'm excited to get a copy of that. But thanks for, thanks for stopping by, Mark. Yeah, thank you. All right, we got the Paul Bartholomew here from Whitehall, New York area, right? Right.
Starting point is 01:24:23 Yeah. Paul is a person I haven't been able to chat with yet, but we're going to set that up for the future. He's got such a wealth of knowledge about Bigfoot in the Whitehall area of New York. But what are some cool things you got at your booth today, Paul? Right. Well, we've got, when I went to school, I went to school at Castle in college, and the professor there was Dr. Warren Cook. And he went to China in 1985. So we've got some artifacts that he brought back from China here. We've got one of the castings of the Che Wren or the Wild Man from over there. And he went there in 85. And here's some of the Bhutan stamps, the original Bhutan stamps. And there's a Chey Rin, um, uh, um, uh, um, uh, science magazine as well from 1985. So we've got sort of that representation.
Starting point is 01:25:12 We've also got a bunch of things from the Whitehall area, like the A Bear Road sketches of the creature that was spotted there in 1976, which involved several law enforcement agencies. And we've got Cliff Spark citing, which was a year before that in 1975 in May. And he saw this conical-shaped head creature that moves sloth-like and had red-glowing eyes, which is his. account is very important because of that description. He was actually looking at the eyes as they were focused on his dog and not as him. And so he was able to describe this strange effect. And most
Starting point is 01:25:49 recently we have the Bigfoot sanctuary sign that has been put into White Hall. And that is to show respect for the stone giants and wild men of the mountain reports and right up to present day. So we've got serving a smorgasbord of various things regarding the northeast Bigfoot phenomena. That's awesome. Thank you for chatting a little bit about that, Paul, today. I really appreciate it, and we will be in touch in the future, I think. Absolutely. Hey, we got Amy Boo here from Amy's Bucket List Expedition.
Starting point is 01:26:26 How's it going, Amy? It's going great. I'm up and at them, getting ready for everybody to get here, excited to meet people, and hear stories. And I'm doing a little demo later about how to cast some tracks. I'm excited for that. Except is it during, I think it might be during the, I hope it's not during my live podcast. It might be, I don't remember the podcast, but I know it's during Shay's talk, and I wish I could hear Shay talk. I might have to skip out on my own podcast.
Starting point is 01:26:58 We'll skip on each other's things. There you go. What kind of cool stuff do you have at your table today, Amy? Well, I have a quilt that my mom made. She made one last year, too, so we're raffling that off. And I just have a little bit of doodads here. Nothing really spectacular. I am here mostly to get stories from people.
Starting point is 01:27:21 So they can come look at the things that I have set up, but what I really want to know is who's seen Bigfoot. Yeah, me too. And we had a great time. We had a group together chatting at supper last night, and you introduced me to some awesome people, So thank you for that. And just a pleasure seeing you today.
Starting point is 01:27:40 We'll be chatting in August, I believe. Yep, in August. I can't wait. It was fun. All right. Thanks, Amy. All right. We got Martin Grove here.
Starting point is 01:27:48 And we are back at Monster Fest. Martin, how are you doing today, sir? I'm doing fantastic. I'm doing a lot better now that I got to run across you and see you again, my brother. Absolutely. It was a treat to see it show up last night. I was like, oh, my goodness. I didn't know Martin was going to be here.
Starting point is 01:28:06 and we had such a fun time chatting last year for my live podcast here. But would you be able to give a little update about what's been going on for you? That may be down in the LBL? Certainly, man. There has been so many fantastic things that have come out in the last six months to a year. And it's hard to like to describe everything and put everything together. But we've been going in very strong since the fall of last year. Ron Moorhead, Darryl Denton, and Barton Nunley and myself have been camping all up and down the south and the north entrance of the OBL.
Starting point is 01:28:44 And we've had encounters. We've got recordings of what we feel like is definitely the beast of LBL. The recording has been sent to scientists and it's not a human voice and it is no animal that has been recorded. It's not even close to a wolf or a coyote or fox or anything. It's not Canaan. They're having a hard time to determine what type of animal that it is. Within the last month, Bart Nunley and myself, along with some other team members, encountered a portal that opened up on the northern entrance,
Starting point is 01:29:24 and it is totally unlike anything I've ever seen. and this was in an extreme remote region of the land between the lakes, about 25 miles deep within, no roads. There's no way that someone could have been out in the woods generating what we saw, and he has it on camera and has kept that, and he has posted the video and audio of this thing. Jeremiah, it blows me away. It takes a lot to really blow me away. Another thing that's going to come out in my new book, The Devil's Backbone that I believe is going to really be an eye-opener.
Starting point is 01:30:08 I am going to open up and discuss mind speaking. One of the greatest things that has come out since 2016, a Methodist preacher got me to investigate a cemetery, in the area of the, I will call it Bethlehem Road area. And there was a large hairy beast was the description the priest gave me. And I've been in there since 2016 recording and investigating the people that go to this cemetery to visit their loved ones and placed flowers out. And they're being harassed by Bigfoot. Really?
Starting point is 01:30:58 And they're having objects thrown at them, and they're having just a lot of issues. So we recently took in a camera crew that we, I'm under a non-disclosure that I can't speak of, but we have a very good video of camera crew that went into this very area, and they had contact. This is Daniel Fischel. And Ryder Strong from PodMeets World. Cat parents unite. We have to look out for each other. Yes, we all know the feeling of being ignored by our little babies a little too well. Yeah, I often wonder to myself, does my cat even love me?
Starting point is 01:31:36 Well, there's only one solution to solve that. Sheba. Feed your cat, Sheba, and go from feeling ignored to truly adored in 12 days guaranteed or your money back. Sheba has a wide array of products, appetizers, entrees, treats, and even a kitten's menu that will win over even the pickiest eater. My cat Bill is all about Shiba grilled. Just snap, peel, and serve for two gourmet servings and zero messy leftovers. He loves it. Licks it to the bowl. Its protein-rich formula is made with real chicken and seafood without artificial flavors, preservatives, cornweed, or soy. What if I'm not ready?
Starting point is 01:33:31 I see a whole highlight reel of everything I don't want to happen.
Starting point is 01:33:58 To put more smiles out into the world, Colgate has supported female athletes for over 50 years with the Colgate Women's Games. The Colgate Women's Games is the nation's longest running indoor track and field series for girls and women. Colgate, your smile is your strength. The cameraman was pretty well freaked out and it was a, it was a hair-raising experience. for him. So is that something you think the public might be able to see someday or is it up to someone else if that footage is ever released? This video will come out in November of this year and it will they have released just a small segment of it. This is Greg Ogles work and Greg has got a tremendous video that he has made and Adam Davies was a part of that. and yes, the public will get to see this sooner or later.
Starting point is 01:35:01 I'm excited to hear that, and I didn't know you had a new book coming out. Is there any time frame on that? We're hoping that July, it will hit the shelves in July. Aaron had released a book that we have such love for, and I wanted to wait for a while until I released my book, and it just carries on from where Aaron has left off, and it will discuss a lot about mindspeak. We're going to tie in a lot of historical facts,
Starting point is 01:35:34 such as what we discussed earlier with the Mormon encounter with the banished cane. But there is so much. We have discovered two cemetery graves that a historian has led me into where there were two brothers. and these two brothers stood almost nine feet tall. They lived on the peninsula and they said they were like hairy.
Starting point is 01:36:01 And there's a local historian out of Dover that has led us into this area. And we have measured the graves. Of course, we do not tamper with the graves. We're very respectful. But I find it amazing that we have nine foot tall brothers within this area of all this that's taking place in the 18 and 1900s. That is incredible. So you mentioned MindSpeak is going to be a part of the new book. Is that something you've experienced yourself? Yes, it is. It's something that I've kept very quiet about. There's a lot of, I don't bring out my research until years and years later and until I know what I have and what I have discovered. And I had worked a lot with Scott Carpenter and Scott had taught me not to be ashamed of being Minespoke, is the term.
Starting point is 01:36:52 because a lot of people have had to deal with these creatures speaking to them telepathically. And so I've had something going on since 2016, actually since 1993 when I had my first encounter, but from 2016 until current date in this area of Bethlehem Cemetery, I have had a lot of dealings with Minespeak. It's something that I've started to look into myself. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I think that there is definitely something there. It's something I'm working through, you know, as I do. I don't do a lot of research, but I do do some research, and it is really interesting to think about.
Starting point is 01:37:36 So have we talked about you doing work with Scott Carpenter before, or is that something you've just started to talk about? No, I've kept this to myself. This was between Scott and I and a lot of data that we have shared together concerning DNA samples, and things of that nature. But he was one that he gave me a lot of encouragement. He had suffered from Minespeak as well and from attacks where he was in the Smoky Mountains and where these creatures or beasts that I call them
Starting point is 01:38:10 would attack or cause great discomfort when you have contact with him. And he was fully aware of it, and he had been victim to it as well. Well, what was so great about Scott, I mean, he was a great phenomenal man to begin with, but he was such an encouraging soul. And he taught me one thing,
Starting point is 01:38:36 not to be ashamed of it. I didn't speak of it, and I didn't promote it, but I'm more willing to come out now because I have discovered so much data from this Minespeak. and the other part that I have to say is Ron Moorhead. Ron Moorhead has taught me so much in the last few years, and I've been an avid student, and, you know, we go camping together, and he just has so much wisdom.
Starting point is 01:39:07 But when you consider quantum Bigfoot, and the different aspects, well, the paradox of anything to deal with Bigfoot or other creatures, You know, we're only slowly becoming to understand the dimensions and the different aspects of Bigfoot and where these things can travel or where they may even come from. And Mines Speak is part of that. Absolutely. There's an individual that's actually been able to carry on Scott's work. His name is Harley Owens, and he has access to all of Scott's areas. And I don't know, is that an individual that you've been able to talk to at all?
Starting point is 01:39:44 Yes, very much. Harley is a good guy. and definitely is a man, he is going to go from Scott's work and take it to a higher plane and learn so much. If you consider this, you have Scott Carpenter and those like Scott, I won't throw my name in the hat, but folks like us that have been investigating for years, Harley is so much younger. And just think about what he can achieve in 10 or 20 years and how much farther he will advance than Scott or myself or Ron Moorhead and people that's been into it for a long time. Harley's a great guy, yes.
Starting point is 01:40:23 I would agree, and I'm very thankful for your time today, Martin. I do have one more question. Yes. Has there anything recently that has happened in the LBL any strange attacks or disappearances that you've been made aware of? The last appearance, disappearance that I'm aware of, this did not occur within the LBL. but it is something that I take heart with, and I investigate a lot of happenings within the Smoky Mountains. The last known disappearance that I'm aware of
Starting point is 01:40:57 was in 2020 when a husband and wife disappeared, and you won't find any records anywhere about these people that have disappeared. But in 2020, a husband and wife parked their vehicle at the edge of the Devil's Backbone Trail, and like three to five days later, their family reported them gone. They found their vehicle. They found a backpack.
Starting point is 01:41:21 And I believe a ladies flip-flop. And that was it. They've not been found. But you will not find any written paper or any report from this. We did find one article at one point where there had been a search for a couple. And it ended right there. That was nothing else ever put out to the public. Yeah, that is a heartbreaking story, and I hope that someday maybe there'll be closure that comes to the people involved with that.
Starting point is 01:41:52 But Martin, thank you for spending a few minutes with me today. It's great to catch up with you, and we'll definitely be watching to see when the new book on the devil's backbone comes out. But thank you again, Martin. Thank you, Jeremiah. It's always a great, great day when I get to see you and speak with you. Thank you, sir. Likewise. Please take a minute to help out the show by.
