Bigfoot Society - UNSEEN SASQUATCH CORNERS THREE HIKERS | LAKE CUSHMAN, WASHINGTON
Episode Date: July 9, 2026Two unforgettable encounters from the Pacific Northwest take center stage in this episode of Bigfoot Society.A hiker exploring the rugged mountains of Washington's Olympic Peninsula describes a series... of powerful four-part grunts that followed his group deeper into remote terrain before erupting from just beyond a wall of boulders. Years later, the experience still stands as one of the most unsettling moments of his life. Then travel back to Oregon in 1989, where two teenage backpackers stopped for the night at a quiet campground north of Crater Lake. Heavy bipedal footsteps entered their campsite, an unseen presence paused only feet away, and multiple eerie howls sent them racing into the night. These firsthand accounts are shared exactly as the witnesses remember them, offering another compelling look into the growing collection of experiences documented by Bigfoot Society.📖 Follow Jeremiah's cancer health updates here:https://www.caringbridge.org/site/569ef3d3-68be-11f1-8790-97fdfd2bbc64🗣️ Share Your StoryHad a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience?Send it to bigfootsociety@gmail.com – your story might be featured on the show!🎥 Watch & Subscribe on YouTube🔴 Subscribe here → Bigfoot Society YouTube💬 Leave a comment & let us know your thoughts!📞 Leave a voicemail with your story → Speakpipe (Use multiple voicemails if needed)👥 Share this episode → Watch & Share🎧 More episodes → Podcast Playlist🌲 Recommended: New Jersey Bigfoot Encounters💥 Support the Show & Get Perks✅ Join the community on Supercast – Become a Member✅ Listen ad-free & early on YouTube – Join Here📱 Let’s ConnectInstagram: @bigfootsocietyTwitter: @bigfoot_societyTikTok: @bigfoot.society🧰 Tools & Partners I Use (Affiliate Links)These help support the show at no extra cost to you:Beam (Better Sleep): Try BeamWildgrain (Better Bread): Join HereSeed (Probiotics): Get SeedMedi-Share (Healthcare): Learn MoreLMNT (Electrolytes) Free Sample Pack with your first purchase! : Get LMNTOrganic and non-GMO groceries delivered for lesshttp://thrv.me/uarEhS🎙️ Podcasting Tools:Repurpose.io: Try ItDescript: Sign UpStreamyard: Start RecordingRiverside.fm: Try Riverside🎧 My Audio Interface: View on Amazon☕ Buy Me a Coffee – Support Here🛍️ Grab Some Merch – Shop on Etsy📬 Mailing Address:Bigfoot Society125 E 1st St. #233Earlham, IA 50072

You're listening to Bigfoot Society and I'm Jeremiah Byron.
In this show, we go beyond the campfire stories to bring you first-hand encounters from people who say they've seen something impossible.
From backwoods trails and remote mountain haulers to quiet farms and crowded highways, the stories come from everywhere, and each one leaves us with more questions than answers.
These are the voices of the people who've lived it.
So settle in because today you'll hear another account that just might change the way you see the woods forever.
So stay with us.
Please keep Jeremiah in your prayers as he continues his fight against cancer.

Thank you.
Hi, Peter.
How are you?
Yes.
Hi, how are you doing, sir?
Good.
Good, good.
Feel free to share what's on your mind.
So this was back in, let's say, well, let me start over.
So I was living in Minnesota for my life.
When I was younger in my 20s, I decided I wanted to move out to Washington State.
I had a friend that lived out there, and he got me to come out and,
and live with them out there.
And he was telling me about the Olympic Peninsula
and how great all the hiking and diverse the forest was.
And so we did a number of hikes to different locations
around the Olympic forest on the Olympic Peninsula.
And one particular hike,
We had another friend come out and to visit.
And we,
I don't, because I, because I,
I tried to recall where exactly we were.
And I, I had asked my buddies,
now this was probably about a year ago,
you know, where exactly we were.
And they thought it was staircase.
But I've gone back and looked at,
at staircase and and what happened was was it was early spring and and the snow is still still there
as you as you gain elevation the snow got more and more so we were using back then of course
there were just no you know phones or anything like that so so we use topographical maps and
and we were able to kind of like kind of parallel the trail,
but we were definitely off the trail.
And so, you know, going back to why they thought it was staircase,
was, and then now I use those topographical maps
and I look up there and what we were kind of going for
was this ranger station up on top of this,
on top of this mountain.
And we're like, yeah, let's work our way up and let's see if we can get up to that range station.
Now, we're in our early 20s.
We're in great shape.
You know, we could do anything.
So we, now going back to looking at the maps, I looked at staircase and there's no ranger station up.
we had spent one night prior, got there like mid-afternoon, spent the night, got up the next day, hiking down the trail.
So, I mean, we weren't, I would say, you know, maybe four to five miles in when we lost the trail.
And, yeah, there was no Ranger Station up on staircase.
So I'm not convinced that that's where we were.
But anyway.
we started to ascend the mountain, got off the trail, ran into the snow.
We ended up kind of looking at the map and going, you know, if we just traverse this mountain side,
we can get up to the top of this mountain and just, you know, take the ridge and meet up to that ranger station.
And so as we're ascending, we kept hearing.
it was like a
it was like a grunting
it was like a
the best thing that I'm gonna
I'm gonna do it right now but this is what it sounded like
it was a
oh
oh oh oh oh
and it was in a sequence of four
every time
wow okay
and
um
now I've
since I've talked to
a bigfoot researcher in the area, Shane Corson, I don't know if you're familiar with him.
Shane's a great guy, yeah.
And I was on phone with him for about two hours, and he was convinced that we had an experience.
Because I'm going to ask to me, you know, back then, I wasn't as,
as I'd say I didn't know all the animal sounds like I do now.
now I'm an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisher, you know, and I definitely don't know what that animal sound would be,
besides maybe a bear. But now I've gone and done my researching on sounds that bears make,
and I've even came pretty close to bear a few times, and they don't make that sound.
They've never made that sound when I'm around anyway.
And Shane kind of had the same perspective.
Anyway, as we're ascending the mountainside,
whatever was making that sound,
we were getting closer to it because it was sound off every,
oh, 20 minutes or so, I would say.
And we're just, we're taking our time.
We're going up the mountainside.
We kind of all looked at each other.
We're like, what is that?
Is that an elk?
You know, and well, I elk hunt, so I know now, but that's not an elk.
But back then we were like, yeah, probably, you know, whatever, no big deal.
Let's just keep going.
But we ended up climbing up.
We actually got to where we had packs on and stuff.
We got to where it was so steep that we were digging our hands in the dirt to get up the side of the mountain.
I mean, it was steep.
And so we ended up getting up there.
This is an area that I imagine no one has ever been because of the terrain.
We end up getting up so high that we kind of ran into, it got really rocky and bouldery.
And now that sound we heard is sounded off, oh, five times or so since the first time we heard it
heard it. And as we're ascending and getting towards the top of this ridge, it is getting louder,
but we're not seeing anything. We're expecting to see whatever this sound is pretty soon because
it must be an animal warning us that it doesn't want us too close. And so we're going to see it,
you know, and make a visual and decide what to do from there. But we never see it. Anyway, we end up
getting up there. It's real rocky. We kind of spidered our way across this boulder,
and there was a creek coming down. We got across the creek, and we just kind of got up there,
and we're like trying to just figure out a path to get to the top of this ridge. And we kind of
got to a spot where there is no way we're getting up any further. Like it's just huge boulders,
and I mean, it would be stupid to try to go any further from here.
And we got out our maps and we're kind of trying to figure out what to do.
And all of a sudden, and no joke, it was so loud that I swear it was right on top of us or right behind the boulder.
but I could actually hear the almost the breath from the every time it grunted and did the
oh oh oh oh I mean it was and we all looked at each other when it did it or like let's get out of here
like we were all just freaked out like it was like like dude it's right there
Like whatever it is is right on top of us.
And so we just turned around and went back the way we came.
And we kind of got to a point where we couldn't, like night was falling and we didn't want to go down that steep embankment again.
But it was kind of like we tried going down further and trying to find a way up.
and there was just nothing.
And we actually ended up camping out against a pine tree.
And we were in a two-and-a-half-man Kelti tent with three guys.
So we were tight in this two-and-a-half-man tent with our feet against a pine tree on a, you know, a steep slope.
So we, you know, that was it.
That was all we had.
So we ended up, we end up in the morning.
We're all piled down on the bottom of the tent.
Hey, guys, get up.
Oh, my God.
Doing twister on the bottom of the tent.
Anyway, yeah, we end up leaving.
We got out of there.
We ended up leaving.
And we really didn't really talk about it after that.
It wasn't like, it was, it wasn't like the highlight of the trip.
It wasn't like something that.
And Bigfoot didn't.
didn't even, it wasn't even brought up.
It wasn't, you know, I knew nothing really about it back then.
I really didn't, it just didn't register.
And with my two buddies, it didn't either.
Now that I've kind of, you know, been listening to shows like yours and stuff.
And now, now, with that being said, I've only heard one encounter
where somebody has heard that and it was almost to the T exactly what they heard, I heard that.
Okay.
Oh, interesting.
That's what makes it kind of interesting for me.
And, you know, it would be nice to have a, I wish there were more people that had that same kind of vocalization encounter, but I just, I haven't heard it yet, I guess.
but to me it was like what else could it have been i mean honestly yeah especially if um so you
mentioned staircase is this so you're talking about staircase behind lake cushman yes yeah oh my goodness
if you were up there dude that place is so wild with big stuff oh yeah oh yeah i mean you know
because you've looked into it and so what year was that approximately um approximately uh 2000
Okay, cool.
Yeah.
I'm 51 now.
I was like, I was like, I think I moved out there when I was like 22 and I was there until I was like 25.
So.
Wow.
That's wild.
Yeah.
You know, it's just one of those crazy encounters.
And I definitely like, I'm not one to just jump to the conclusion or anything.
that. Like I've really, I mean, but, but when it clicked for me that, hey, guys, I, you know,
and I called my buddies and I was like, hey, what do you guys think? You know, and they were like,
hey, that's a possibility. Like, and they, what they know what they know now. And my,
my one buddy, especially, he's, he's, he's, actually a, he does excursions in the wilderness.
this, he knows what animals sound like.
And that was definitely not on the list.
So they didn't disagree with me.
But, yeah, you know, I definitely, I know now there's, yeah, there's a lot of activity on the Olympic Peninsula.
And it definitely could have been.
We were off the beaten path, a good ways.
Yeah, I mean, I've been talking to people the last few days about Olympic Peninsula stuff like crazy.
And like, yeah, Lake Cushman, that area is really, really intense.
And I mean, just, yeah, staircase.
If you went up there, I mean, I would not be surprised.
You were running into weird stuff.
But dude, what a cool, what a cool wilderness story.
Thank you for coming up and sharing it.
I do appreciate it.
Yeah.
I do have more if you have time.
Yeah, sure.
So basically, when I was a kid, I lived in a neighborhood,
just a regular neighborhood in the middle of the city in St. Claude, Minnesota.
And I grew up with two sisters, one older, one younger.
and my younger sister once in a
and be like, yeah, I'm, you know, I'm scared tonight
we sleep with me, and I was like, sure, I'll sleep with you.
So I was in her bedroom, and I woke up in the middle of night
with the, and I heard the sound, like, I kind of opened my eyes,
I kind of heard like a creaking sound.
I opened my eyes, and I look at the bedroom window,
and I see
it was definitely
a full body apparition
of a Native American
young girl
and I say Native American
because I could see the garb
she was wearing.
She had braids.
And she had a doll in her arm.
And it was kind of weird
because I know, I mean,
but she was
a rocking chair and that's what was making the creaking and i'm not sure that rocking chairs and native
american people if there's any correlation you never know i guess but maybe they could have
traded a rocking chair for who knows anyway uh that's what i saw and and i just kind of chocked it up
and i did pinch myself i was like i'm not dreaming i've seen what i'm seeing what i'm seeing here
And I kind of just put it in the back of my mind.
And a few years later, I was talking to my neighbor that lives across the street.
And behind his house is a big set of woods.
And it never got developed for whatever reason.
To this day, it never got developed.
And he said to me, because we always went back in those woods and played.
And he told me, apparently this is, there's,
Native American barrel grounds back here.
And it just clicked in my mind.
I was like, oh my gosh.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
It just confirmed what I saw was probably, who knows,
what that neighborhood was built on, you know?
No, absolutely.
And that was probably in the 90s, you're saying?
Um, that, that neighborhood was probably built, um, probably in the 70s.
Okay.
And I was, I was there in, um, would have been, um, 80, uh, 82, 82 to 87 is when I lived there.
Uh-huh.
So, um, yeah.
Anyway, going forward from there, my parents end up buying a house out in, out in the country.
And we lived out there almost immediately started having activity, paranormal activity.
And I know you're not a paranormal show.
It brings me to what I'm going to be talking about.
But this is where I might believe in the paranormal.
and everything else come into play.
But so I had a few different experiences.
The first one was I had a, I woke up
to like someone turn on the light.
I had a bright orb floating around in my room.
And it was so bright that I thought someone turned on the light.
And I watched it as it floated around by the ceiling
and then it,
sunk into the light bulb and just dissipated.
It was weird.
That is really weird.
And then we had the heat would be turned up.
Up in the, we had, it was kind of a, it was an old farmhouse built in 1903.
And the, it had an upstairs, had an old basement that was not livable.
It was like the, the rock wall.
type basement and then had it had upstairs and then and then out of my sister's room you could open the
door and go up the steps to the peak of the attic and there was a room up there and they obviously
used it for storage or whatever um but it was head carpet and stuff and just a panel ceiling and
the the heat would get turned up all the way up there and my dad was done
I'm thinking it was one of the kids.
Hey, who's turning the heat up there all the way up?
That's none of us.
You know, why would we do that?
You know, so it was none of us.
It was just get turned up all the way.
It happened like three or four times.
Anyway, I was up there.
I had a drum set.
I was jamming on my drum set.
And all of a sudden, I got the, I got like my spidey senses went off.
And like the hair on the,
the back my neck stood up like someone's right behind me and I turn around and we had a we we've
gone to Mexico a couple times when we were when we were kids and we brought back those
mariachi puppets and I had one of those nailed up to the the on the strings there's a little
wooden cross and I had that nailed up to the ceiling so the puppet was just hanging I
I don't know, kind of creepy, but whatever.
I was kidding.
Whatever.
Anyway, I had that nail up to the ceiling.
I turned around, and that mariachi puppet was, like, swaying back and forth,
like someone just brushed by it.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah, I pretty much dropped my drumsticks and ran downstairs,
and I didn't go back up there for a really long time.
A few other things happened, but we're going to try to get to.
to the point of my story.
The biggest thing that happened was my dog was missing.
My sister and I were home alone.
We couldn't find her anywhere.
We heard her barking.
I went into my older sister's room,
and I heard her bark inside the armoire that was lashed shut.
I opened it up.
She was on the,
now it was a little like a Lossopsil,
if you know what kind of dog dad is.
Oh, yeah.
And she was on the top shelf,
like the height of my chin.
No way she'd be able to get up there.
Wow.
I looked at my sister who said,
are you playing with me?
And she started crying.
So I know she didn't do it.
And we're the only one at home.
So that was the freakest stuff.
Anyway, you know,
so I kind of had that.
As different things happened,
I had kind of that spidey sense.
you know, like a six cents or whatever you want to call it, that something was near or something
was going to happen or, you know what I mean? Like, I could always feel like when there was a
spirit present. And so when that happened on the mountain, I got that feeling. Like, that feeling
came over me.
And I don't know,
you know, I just,
you know that feeling.
When it happens to you,
and I'm sure anybody who's listening right now,
knows that feeling, knows what I'm talking about,
but that feeling came over me.
And it was,
it was, it was kind of a,
kind of a,
I don't want to use the word overwhelming.
It wasn't overwhelming, but it was familiar.
Mm-hmm.
I knew,
exactly that feeling. I knew exactly what I was feeling. Like, so I don't know what that had to do
with it with that encounter, but that's the feeling I got. So, um, yeah. One more thing. So
and I kind of, I've kind of heard this take before, but not exactly, but people kind of
I always, you know, say what do they think the correlation between extraterrestrial and Bigfoot is because they see the orbs around Bigfoot.
Sometimes, sometimes not.
But sometimes the lights in the woods, the orbs, you know what I'm talking about?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, dude.
My take on it is that I totally 100% believe that we are not the only life on this planet,
and there is life beyond us way more advanced than us,
and I do believe we are being visited.
With that being said, the orbs that people see in correlation to the Bigfoot are those beings,
studying Bigfoot with, I'd say, something like our drones.
They have their own drones, and they're highly advanced.
Why not?
If you came from another planet, you came to this and he said, wow, humans are really cool.
But there's these other things that live in the woods, they're crazy.
Like, we've got to study these things.
We got to, we got to put, we got to, we got to really study these things.
How do we do it?
Well, let's put our drones out and, and have, and just follow them around in the woods.
I mean, that makes, that makes sense to me.
If you, if you can go along with extra terrestrials, being, being, you know, if you believe that they, they were visited or they're already here,
whatever, you know.
I think there's a lot going on that we can't see.
It's super evident.
And as science progresses, we kind of figure out more of what's going on, perhaps.
It's just, it's so weird as I'll get out.
But Peter, thank you so much for coming up and sharing the weirdness you've experienced
in your stories out in Washington State.
I do appreciate it, man.
Yeah.
Thank you very much for having me on.
I appreciate it.
You got it.
Hi, good morning.
Let's see.
I have a story from back in 1989.
I was very, I was young.
I was, I think I was maybe 17 years old, and I was with a friend.
I live on the, I grew up on the East Coast, but I met a gal on a backpacking trip
who lived on the West Coast in California.
And together, when we were 17,
we drove up from California up into Oregon to just to go on a road trip and you know see the country
and so this one night we had gone to Crater Lake during the day to visit Crater Lake
and then we left I can't remember what time of day we left Crater Lake but it would have
been toward the end of the day before dark and we
were driving. We drove north of there. We were somewhere in Oregon, north of Crater Lake.
And I know at one point we were going due east because we had been driving for a while,
and I could see the full moon was rising up between two big kind of like pine trees
in the road dead ahead of us. Shortly after that, we stopped at a campground because we
wanted to, you know, camp out for the night. And there was nobody in that campground. And as I recall,
it was like a state type of campground, you know, where you leave your money in the little box in the
front. There was nobody in that campground. That kind of creeped us out a little bit. So we decided to
continue on. We drove for maybe another 15, 20 minutes, maybe less, not sure. Got to another campground.
and we were heading east and we were taking lefts into these campgrounds.
I do remember that.
Anyway, we got into this campground.
We drove way down into the back.
There was one person there at the beginning.
It might have been like the camp host, I'm not sure, but there was one car in the very
beginning.
We drove way down into the back.
And I remember we were like there was like where we decided to camp.
It was like little camping spots that you picked.
and I remember it was wooded and kind of like it went up a hill in front of us.
Anyway, we threw down our tarp.
We didn't have a tent or anything.
We just threw our sleeping bags down on a tarp.
And we were awake, like writing in our journals and chatting for a little bit.
And then we decided to go sleep, turned off the flashlight.
And it was not long after that when suddenly,
something just came stomping through the campground came from the left like it was walking along
the tree line and like when I say stomping it was so obviously on two feet heavy-footed you know
cadence like rhythmic stomp stomp stomp you know it was so obvious that it was on two feet
so loud and heavy-footed um
came along and stopped, I think maybe no more than 20 feet away, if that.
It must have been pretty heavily wooded in there because I could not see what this was.
And I wanted so badly to turn on my flashlight and see what it was, but I was, no way was I going to do that.
I was just kind of terrified and just frozen.
I didn't want to move.
So previous to that, whenever I tell friends or family this story, I forget the part,
before we turned off the flashlight, went to sleep, we had heard what I described at the time
as howling coming from that wooded area.
And I don't know what that sounded like, unfortunately.
But I do know that I specifically, we say.
specifically used the word howling.
And we just thought it was like, I don't know, maybe some coyotes in there,
it did not scare us.
So, but then after this thing came up, it came up, it stopped.
Like I said, like maybe 20 feet away.
I'm frozen, not wanting to move.
I was like laying there kind of like frozen, terrified.
It did not stomp away.
It stood there.
It was stood there.
It walked up.
It stood there about 20 feet away.
I don't know, maybe for 20 seconds.
That's kind of a guess, but it stood there for a few moments.
And then I could hear that thing creeping away up through those trees as if it was tiptoeing.
So all I could hear was little twigs breaking as it was retreating.
And it blew my mind.
I'm like, this thing just stomped up.
And now it is just making the quietest little sound as it retreats, as if it knew that I was aware of it and wanted to,
wanted to leave very, very quietly. So at that point, I whispered to my friend, when I felt like I had
retreated a bit, I whispered to my friend, I said, did you hear that? And she was, she was, she was,
had been sleeping through it. And she woke up and she said, no, I didn't hear anything. And I told her
what had happened. And I said something just stopped through our campground. And suddenly we hear
the howling again. And this time, it's closer, much closer. And there were multiple howls,
like one and then another and then another. And at that point, we both said, okay, let's get out of
here. And we counted to three and we high-tailed it out of there in like pure terror at every
moment, any moment in thinking this thing was going to jump out. I mean, we were grabbing,
like just grabbed everything and one fell swoop and just,
stuffing it into the Jeep and like I'm climbing like we're literally leaving the campground with me
like in the passenger seat on top of all of our stuff because there was no time we were so scared
to like properly you know get our stuff packed in there so um it was pretty hilarious and scary
really scary at the same time so um we left there and it was just I will say the night just felt
like otherworldly she was driving we just
kept heading west toward Idaho, I'm sorry, east toward Idaho. And it was just, just the night
just felt so magical. And we weren't even speaking. We didn't even really talk about it. I was just
in shock at what had just happened. And I did think of Bigfoot. Now, I'm looking up at the sky.
There's like this, this moon and the clouds were just forming all these shapes. And I'm up, I'm looking
at the clouds, they're forming the shape of a Native American chief's head. They're forming,
one was literally a big foot in the sky, was formed in the cloud. I know that all sounds really
weird, but this happened. And all my girlfriend said, my friend, she was like, we're dead
silent, not even talking. And she just kind of like leaned forward and looked up toward the
sky and said, whoa, there are some really, you know, like crazy things up in the sky right now.
And I don't, and that was it.
We didn't even speak.
We were just both kind of, just kind of, I don't know, like just in shock and in this weird,
kind of otherworldly place.
And I don't know how else to describe it.
That's it.
And, yeah, that's it.
So thanks for letting me share.
Take care.
And thanks for your podcast, because it's really awesome.
Have you ever heard all the accounts of Bigfoot activity around Oak Ridge, Oregon?
And you think to yourself, man, I would love to get out in those woods and experience it for myself.
Well, guess what?
This year, you can.
If this is interesting to you, stay tuned because it's pretty cool.
Sasquatch Summerfest is coming up July 10th through the 11th, 2026.
It's going to be even better than the previous years.

or if you're with the FBI, a federal agency, or working intelligence,
and you stumbled upon something you're not allowed to talk about,
and if you're a firefighter, paramedic, or search and rescue responder,
who's heard screams or found tracks that didn't make sense,
if you're in the logging industry on a remote oil field or trucker with government,
contracts and you've had something happen that you've never told a soul and if you're a biologist,
a wildlife specialist, or a field researcher under contract who has found evidence you're not allowed
to report. If you're a pastor, a missionary, or someone on a spiritual retreat and you saw something
that shook your faith, or if you work in the shadows, CIA, NSA, or anything with clearance,
and you've seen what the public hasn't, then I want to talk to you.
