Doug, you wanted to the comment about Governor Kotech and what you heard her talking about the other day?
Go ahead.
Well, I just saw on the little news clip yesterday and she said she wants,
or maybe she's going to pass this bill regarding any ice agents cannot wear masks.
and my simple comment is, all right, I don't think the protesters should be wearing masks either in the story.
Yeah, if you're going to make a rule for one, make that for everybody.
That would be quite interesting, quite interesting.
I don't think that she has absolutely any statutory authority to be able to tell an ICE agent or a Border Patrol agent what they can or cannot do within the state.
I don't think she has any authority to do that, do you?
Well, no, she doesn't, but I mean, I don't call her by, you call her by her name, I just call her Governor
back one, oh, but.
Point well taken.
But I'm with you on this one.
If you're going to unmask the cops, unmask Antifa, that could be fun.
That could be really interesting, wouldn't it?
You know, look what she let go on in Portland for months and months and months, burning down
everybody's worn masks and burning down Portland, but, oh, that's okay, but we can't have
coming in and doing their job.
Yeah.
Well, it's kind of like what happened in the talent library.
You know, there is so much concern for,
there are privacy concerns for the people doing bad things, I guess.
Okay?
All right.
Yeah, I get to go.
All right.
Thanks for the call, Doug.
Kevin Starris going to join me after the Kim Commando digital update.
Always good conversation, too, on politics and more.
We're going to talk about actually what could be going on with the right to purchase firearms in Oregon,
which could be under a little bit of sportiness.
Hi, it's Jeff.
quality tree service, your local tree whisper.
If you waited until winter to consider pruning.
That's 770 KMED.
Now more with Bill Meyer.
An email or asked me the other day, Bill, what is that music you're using for the intro now?
That is from a band called Death Cab for Cudy.
I just like the name of the band.
Death Cab for Cudy.
I kid you not, Kevin.
Someone sent that to me.
I said, that is a really cool song.
I like the music there.
that it was and I thought it was, but Death Cap for Cutie, I don't advertise that part,
but now I've, you know, let that out and exposed it.
So got to love it.
Kevin Starrett once again, and he is with Oregon Firearms Federation.
Kevin, I wanted to give you take.
First off, a lot of people have been questioning the firearm used.
Do you know, have you seen any actual confirmation of the type of firearm that Alex
Pretty, the guy who ended up getting shot and killed Saturday, was using, to me, it looked like a
P320. Other people are saying it's a SIGP226. Do you know off the top of your head? Every report I've
seen said it was a 320. It was a 320. I haven't seen any other one. And from the photograph,
that's what it looks like to me, assuming the photograph is real and not AI generated.
Yeah, exactly, exactly. No one knows. But point being, though, is that the SIGP320 has been rather
controversial as of late, having a tendency to go bang when it's not supposed to, right?
Yeah, quite a few reports of it. There are more than, there are several videos of people making
it fire without touching the trigger. These aren't all related to being dropped either.
These are related. There's one video of a guy who can make the gunfire just by pressing the
slide back and forth. And so while I think there have been some reports that have later proved to be
incorrect or actually falsified. There was one guy who was in the military who was shot, and another
guy, I can't remember exactly with Branch. He was shot by another member of the military,
and they were fooling around, and the people who were there kind of conspired to claim that it was a
discharge, you know, an uncommanded discharge, and later on found out that wasn't true. But I have
seen videos of that gun firing in a police holster, you know, the holstered gun, a cop was wearing
it at the time. And, of course, other videos of making the gun fire by just moving the slide
back and forth, or rather side to side. Yeah, that's a bit of a problem. And I, well, there are also
reports now that there may have been some unintentional discharge that got everything going
in the Saturday event. Have you been hearing about that, too? You know, I've been hearing about
everything from everyone. And I think it's a really bad idea to try to
analyze what happened there based on amateur blurry footage taken by people who don't know how to
operate a camera and shot on an iPhone, you know, by someone who was clearly emotionally involved
and screaming the whole time in a scrum of five, six, seven people fighting other ground.
People drew conclusions from those videos, which were completely unwarranted. And I think
that's really dangerous. You cannot really tell what happened from the available videos.
and everybody who says, oh, this is exactly what happened,
and then show here, you know, here's a circle of we can prove this happened.
You can't tell anything.
And you get one person saying, this is proof that this happened,
and someone else saying this is proof of the exact opposite.
Yeah, I'm not seeing any proof of any conclusions.
I shared some of the videos that I saw,
and some of these things did make it look like he may have been disarmed,
you know, before the shooting happened,
may have been, but like I said, I'm just, you know, assuming that it is the same gun in question,
sure, looked like the same gun that was in the AI-generated picture.
Just kidding, you know.
Well, you know, here's what I, the way I feel.
I mean, first of all, I think that everybody with a Twitter account is claiming to have the answer.
And that's stupid, and you should pay no attention to those people.
I mean, I've seen videos of police shootings that I said, oh, that clearly wasn't completely unacceptable use.
of police force. Then seeing a video from another angle and it's saying he completely changed my
mind about it. Exactly. Right now, the videos that are available tell me absolutely nothing.
But let's say that it's accurate that he was not armed when he was shot. That also doesn't
tell me anything. And the, you know, it's, there's, there's so much, there's so much commentary
going on. But here's the question that I have not seen many people ask, all right? And somebody must have
out there. But, you know, I've been a firearms instructor now for probably, I don't even want to tell
you how long, but it's well north of 40 years. I don't know any instructor who would ever advise
a person to intentionally go into a chaotic, kinetic situation armed. Okay?
You are armed? I know no one who would advise this, and this is what we were kind of talking about
in the firearms community, guys I know, you know, gun guys over the last few days. You just don't do it.
You know, if you put a gun on, you put a gun on to protect yourself and those under your mantle of care,
you then do not go looking for trouble.
Because even, no matter how it turns out, even if you encounter trouble and you defend yourself,
it's going to be what happened to Strickland was like, well, you were looking for it.
That's why you were there.
The courts in Oregon are not going to treat you well.
But if your job is to go and disrupt armed federal officers and you strap on a pistol,
You know, the immediate reports for the administration was that he was waving the gun around and was there to create a massacre.
Well, that's nonsense.
He wasn't waving the gun around.
They don't know if he was there to create a massacre.
But what we do know is he went to provoke the cops and he put a gun on.
Why?
Why carry a gun into a situation?
Was he going to shoot police officers?
It's been reported.
And, of course, what's been reported isn't always true.
It's been reported that his parents said he rarely carried a gun.
Well, his parents also told him not to do anything stupid because he was talking about going out to these protests.
Why Carrie had gone into a situation where, okay, you know that your state's been invaded by Nazi goons who just murdered a woman who was just trying to go home.
You know these are trigger-happy fascist, right?
Okay, now, you're being sarcastic, I think, in your...
Of course.
All right.
Of course.
I mean, I hope people understand that.
But in the eyes of the left, their state's been invaded by these murdering mass goons.
So I go and provoke them and I get into a fight with them while wearing the gun.
What in the world are you thinking?
Now, I will tell you that, you know, having been a couple of violent confrontations that involved crowds,
it is almost impossible for you to make very, very cold, distant calculations about what you should do in those situations.
And if, I wasn't there, I don't know what the cops saw.
If somebody, if it was a parent that a gun was involved and somebody yelled gun, and there's a fight going on, who knows?
And, you know, I'm not trying to justify bad behavior on the part of the police.
Because you have never been one of those guys.
In fact, you've been very critical of police action.
Highly critical of police actions, and I don't like authoritarian guys in masks and stuff.
But on the other hand, as you know, one of your callers mentioned earlier, the people who are provoking these guys are all.
mask, and now in Portland, they're carrying long guns. And we live in a culture now where you
can be assassinated for having conservative views. Every one of those guys who's a federal
officer who's there to arrest people who broke the law and snuck into our country at least,
and maybe raping and killing and, you know, running people over, they're enforcing a law
that has been on the books forever. The people who surrounded them, have threatened them,
thrown bottles at them, made their life a living hell, tried to invade their hotels,
endangered them, thrown fireworks at them.
Every day, all these guys' face is a constant attack on them.
They are jacked up.
You don't agree with what they're doing, fine.
But if you want to go get into a fight with them, you know, I'm sorry, but you did something
incredibly stupid.
What Renee Good did was incredibly stupid.
What this guy did was incredibly stupid.
And in that kind of environment where the left has coordinated efforts aided by their elected
officials to violate the law, to circumvent the law, to make life-living hell, coordinated,
well-funded, well-organized.
If you're in that situation, you've got to believe that anybody on the other side will
cheerfully murder you.
And when you're that jacked up, bad things are going to happen.
And I'm sorry, I think the administration's handled as badly.
I think they should have said there was an incident we're investigating it before they shot their mouths off.
But this is what everybody else is doing.
And the reality is whether people want to accept it or not is this is not an organic protest.
This is a well-funded color revolution of the exact kind that RCAA has done around the world for 50 or 75 years.
Except it's been turned around and is being done here.
I was talking with John Gordon about that this morning.
I don't know if he was really willing to go there, but it's the same thing.
same kind of playbook, isn't it?
Right, and I'm not suggesting that the CIA is behind it.
No, nor am I.
Very tactics that we've used around the world of being used now, and there are billionaires
behind this.
And if people really think that this is not a big deal, this is extremely dangerous.
This is the kind of thing we've seen in Portland.
This was coordinated after the George Floyd, as a result of the George Floyd death.
It's court everything just needs a trigger.
Now it's immigration.
immigration enforcement is going on all over the country.
These kind of responses are not happening.
Well, these kind of responses are only happening in the urban hive mines.
That's all.
By the people who coincidentally wanted to distract the fact that billions of dollars have been stolen under the noses
and probably with the complicity of the elected officials, which is exactly what we're seeing in Oregon,
where all the Democratic officials are calling these people our neighbors who need to be protected,
Instead of saying, wait a minute, our citizens are being robbed blind.
They're being killed.
They're being run over by people who should not be here.
Instead, the power structure is saying we will do everything in our power to protect criminals,
while at the same time the Supreme Court is about to decide that law-abiding people
will no longer be able to purchase the means to protect themselves.
I wanted to talk with you about that here, Kevin.
Kevin Starrant with me, Oregon Firearms Federation.
And this is the teachable moment that I want to take from this.
Now, here it is.
We're criticizing the, well, you know, the Minnesota man, the gentle nurse, the gentle soul nurse, who was a part of the signal chats, you know, all that kind of thing.
The reality is that, you know, to me, I agree with you wholeheartedly, stupid act, dumb thing to do.
Well, I've had these kind of conversations here during the era of George Floyd protest in which, you know, gun guys were going down to downtown Medford to get involved with the protests.
And I would warn them.
I said, you do realize that you will be judged more harshly.
You know, even if you are getting hit by a frozen bottle, a water bottle or something like that, right?
And some people lost their gun rights over this kind of thing.
there comes a point where when you're the gun guy and you're the good guy,
you need to stay out of these things to an extent, right?
Is that kind of our takeaway from this?
You know, I think there are a lot of people, you know, hey, it's my constitutional right.
I'm not afraid.
It is absolutely your constitutional right and you're an idiot.
But time and place.
You have to remember where you are.
You're in a state that is largely controlled by Marxists, okay?
The governors for many, many years have made it clear that they want the people to solve.
We have a judge who I assume was pointed by Kay Brown named Heidi Mowob,
who sent a guy, you know, a proud boy to prison for 10 years because he shot somebody with a paintball.
All right?
Heidi is the daughter of a former Oregon Democrat House rep named Jeff Barker,
who was a former police officer, who was a Democrat who was very pro-gun.
She was the facilitator in a meeting I was at many years ago with the sheriff.
And after the meeting, she went back to the committee and blatantly, openly lied to them about what had happened in the meeting.
As a result, they attempted to pass a bill, which we all agreed would not happen.
Now she's a judge.
Do you think that any Antipa member is going to go to jail for 10 years under this woman?
Nope.
The judicial system is controlled.
The political system is controlled.
Every major system is controlled.
And you might think, yeah, it's my right.
I'm not going to let these guys take over my neighborhood.
Well, that's fine. If they're coming down your street and you need to defend yourself, you should do it.
But if you go mix up in that scrum, the reality is that if you survive the encounter, you're going to jail, and you're not really helpful once you're there.
And there's a lot of people that, well, you know, you're a coward. Well, you can go into those situations where there's likely to be a fight, which we've seen in Oregon for years, you know, these kind of confrontations on the street.
if you are a law-abiding or even if you're a conservative with a gun, you're in trouble, period.
And people need to keep that in mind.
And in this case, here's a guy who says, I'm a peace-loving nurse.
Look at me with my mountain bike.
I think I'll go down.
Why are you directing traffic?
Okay?
Why are you getting in the street to direct you who the hell are you to direct traffic?
You know, stand on the sidewalk and scream Nazi and fascist.
But if you get in the way and then a cop pushes you and you hit them, which the
videos appear to show that something bad is going to happen to you. And frankly, something bad
should happen to you. I don't want to see people get killed because I'm no fan of chaos, all right? I'm
no fan of anarchy. But there are certain things that are so self-evident that you have to literally
be a sub-moron not to recognize it. Well, there's a lot of sub-moron of the going on these days, Kevin. Kevin,
stare at with me. Kevin, before we take off, though, I did want to ask you, you know, we do have
the Oregon Supreme Court, or the Court, is it the Court of Appeals or Oregon Supreme Court?
No, it's past the Court of Appeals. Measure 114 is now in the Oregon Supreme Court, and I think
people have forgotten that this is still looming over us. Yeah, and this is something to consider
because essentially the Supreme Court will decide whether there really is the ability to purchase
a firearm in the state of Oregon. Would you be suggesting
getting one right now before the decision.
Listen, there's no downside to buying what you need now, and if the court, which I cannot believe
it would, says, yes, you still have that right, you've lost nothing.
But if the court says you don't have that right, then the next step is for it to be decided by
the feds, and that may never happen.
And if it does happen, it's going to take many years.
and before it happens,
we will, our lawsuit in the Ninth Circuit,
we will lose there, absolutely lose there.
It could be 10 or 15 years before this is resolved.
At the same time, the people in the state of Oregon have declared
they are going to protect the most dangerous, violent people in the state,
and you're on your own.
So act accordingly, in other words.
I would think that would be wise.
Be prepared to defend yourself, but again, don't go looking for trouble, right?
Precisely.
Given the way that the court system is set up here.
And you're right.
You will be judged much more harshly than Antifa, given the current structure, because this
is a color revolution we've been undergoing.
And I sure wish that the Republican Party caucus would look at it that way rather than,
well, you know, they think just like we do.
And gosh, I have to reach across the aisle so that we can get some grader stream funding
for my district.
Well, you know, I mean, I told us to them five years ago.
I said, this is a Marxist revolution.
And, of course, you know, I was crazy.
but look at how well-organized, how well-funded is.
Isn't a bunch of people on the street screaming at someone.
These are people with complicated communication systems
with the support of the elected people who are almost certainly on the take
from the billions that are being stolen.
And now it looks like, well, okay, they're going to back off of Minnesota because of the chaos.
Well, what message is that sent to Portland and Seattle and every place else?
And, you know, that's what I was wondering here,
too, in my benevolent dictatorship, but it's always benevolent, Kevin, I would have put it the
Insurrection Act in there. Get rid of the right to habeas corpus in that town. Stop the left
from flooding the court system with habeas corpus cases for people who have already had their
final order to leave the country, right? But yet, that's what they're doing right now.
They're very skilled in what they're doing right now. And I swear the Republicans are kind of like
still playing checkers from 1978. Well, they think they just don't want to
recognize the severity of the problem. And I think it's a no-win situation now because, of course,
the amount of chaos that, you know, I don't want to see tanks rolling into the streets of
Minneapolis. But also, like when I look at the National Guard handing out coffee and donuts to people
who are constructing law enforcement, I can't think of anything that is a more perfect example
of insurrection than that. Yeah, the inversion. I don't see. Yeah, also the inversion of reality here,
Kevin. Hey, Kevin, someone's been on hold here for a while. Hopefully they're not.
crazy. You never know. This is Southern Oregon, but hi, good morning. You're on with Kevin
Starrard. Who's this? Hello. Hi. Hello. Yeah, hi. Go ahead. Who's this?
Gene. Hi, Jane. Hi. I understand. It's organized chaos. And when someone brings
gun with extra magazine to the streets like that and try to direct traffic to take over control,
that gun could have been out of his hands on the ground,
but another officer or someone may not have a receipt
realize that.
And you have many people
they're trying to protect at that time from a man with a gun
to do something to...
And I don't want to see anyone die by gunshot.
I don't know how we get the left to understand.
There's no understanding of it.
It's, you know, either one side or the other, and my family, my whole family happens to be on the other side.
I don't want to be on a side.
Yeah.
You know, Gene, I think, you know, Gene, I think part of it, Gene, thanks for the call.
I think part of this, Gene and I just want to be, it's a little hard hearing you on the road here.
I think part of this, Kevin, I don't know if you would agree with me with Gene's to Jean's point on this one, that I think the deaths are actually part of the strategy.
That's actually a good thing.
It's looked at it.
There's no question.
You know, when you have the Attorney General of the state telling people to go put their bodies on the line, something he will not do.
Right.
The Renee Goods and the Alex Pretties are the useful idiots.
The whole thing is about optics, the whole thing.
And this is not speculation.
You can look at the training that these people get with their toll.
The whole object of what they're doing is to try to go to the police into doing something that looks bad on TV.
It's incredibly successful.
That's what the planet is.
and it's working. And, you know, where this goes next is it can't be good, but it's absolutely a no-win situation terms of the chaos.
But what we're seeing now is not just the people who are harassing law enforcement, but people who have nothing to do with this being pulled out of their cars, being surrounded, being searched on the street, being told, you know, your eyes followed down the street, screaming obscenities because a guy happened.
have a camouflage jacket on, they've taken control of the streets. That is insurrection. That's chaos.
And if they're stopping people, telling people where they could go and searching them,
well, isn't it the job of the state, the fundamental job of the state to provide safety for the citizens?
And if Marxist revolutionaries have taken over and are attacking people, and the state is complicit in that,
that I don't know what choice you have. Imagine living there and being a normal person.
Yeah, thanks for the call, Gene. Appreciate it. Kevin Starrant with me, we'll take another call or two quickly. Hi, good morning. Who's this?
Yeah, this is John.
Yeah, John.
Yeah, John. Continue with the way you're going. But at some time, I'd like to have an extended thing on what our actual rights are here in the state of Oregon, how we can carry a gun and a car and that's a good source for information that's legal on.
And Kevin, you wrote a book on this subject, didn't you?
Several, actually.
But the problem is that I can tell you what the statute said.
But that doesn't mean you're protected, okay?
You know, the statutes are black and white, and the law says you may do this and this.
And, of course, those rules are changing rapidly because the Democrats are doing everything
they can to eliminate whatever rights you had.
The problem is that there's their statute and there's case law.
And when somebody does something like what Mike Strickland did when he was attacked was not only legal, but the sergeant who arrested of the squad who arrested him told me it was legal and he would have done the same thing.
Well, okay, what was it, 15 felonies later that Strickland was convicted of?
Because the judicial system is completely controlled.
So, you know, we could spend several hours.
I mean, I taught gun law in Oregon for many years.
we could spend several hours talking about what the statute say, but then you have to recognize
that there are situations where the courts don't care what the statute say.
And then there's that challenge.
Thank you for the call.
There's the challenge that you would be bankrupted in the process of defending yourself,
try to stay out of jail.
You'll absolutely be bankrupted.
And potentially lose your freedom in your livelihood as well, which is what they did to Mike Strickland.
He not only lost his money, but he was told you're not allowed to work anymore.
So it is careful.
you have to be very careful not to be actively involving yourself in trouble.
Is where is kind of your takeaway for what's been going on, what we're seeing on the streets?
You know, there's a lot of macho guys out there who say, well, I'm not afraid of anything.
Well, you're not, it's not a matter of that you're having a fistfight or a gunfight with someone.
You are going to face a system that you have no control over that will crush you.
And until more rational people are control of the state, anybody who has,
is a normal, decent person in Oregon is at risk of becoming a victim of this crooked system.
One more call, and we have who? On with Kevin Starrant. Who's this?
Hey, it's deplorable Patrick. Thanks to both you guys, and this was a smaller point that I was
thinking about earlier. There's a look at the liberal mindset that we're dealing here.
This guy that got shot and killed the other day, oh, he was an ICU nurse. It doesn't
matter what he was doing for a living. What matters is what he did interacting with the cops.
Same way with that, Renee Good. She was a mother of two. It doesn't matter how many kids she had.
It matters what she was doing. And don't let these liberals corrupt your thinking.
Thank you, Patrick. You know, I would point out that while the synchronized media is talking about that Preddy was a nurse, go online.
and watch dozens of TikTok movies of nurses saying,
if a MAGA Republican comes into my emergency room,
I'm going to poison them.
Okay, so.
Well, and that made me wonder about if Alex would have one of those guys telling you,
I hate you, get out of my room, get your mask on it.
Oh, you don't have a jab back then.
Get out of my operating room.
I wonder if he was one of those guys.
Speaking of masks, it wasn't that long ago it was required.
Right.
I think that's statute still on the books.
I know. Now all of a sudden it's forbidden.
Kevin, we'll have you back, but I always appreciate some clear thinking because I do hear a lot of macho talk behind the scenes about what my rights are, my rights, but you have to also remember where you are.
You are not in a state which is very protective of those rights, so you have to conduct yourself carefully, in other words.
That's our bottom line here. Okay.
Wise advice.
All right.
Thank you, Bill.
Thank you very much, Kevin.

The Bill Myers Show on 1063 KMED.
All right.
Let's grab a few calls here on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday where we wrap up the open stuff.
And that is Mona.
Mona, you're concerned about the kids involved?
Go ahead.
I had read about the high school that let the students out on the sidebox, which they ended up in the street, and a student was hit by an automobile in another state.
And I have a seven-year-old granddaughter that was taken to one of those peaceful protests, making her own sign that was very negative.
And I don't understand how children can be involved to the extent that they are.
And that they are at a risk.
Well, you're certainly right about that, but then what kind of parent or what kind of teacher,
what kind of public school system would permit such activity here, Mona?
Does I give you pause?
Yes.
The one thing I do know is, from my understanding, Phoenix High School, it's an unexcused absence if you leave for that.
And this wasn't involved in our area.
Well, if we actually had reasonable public school systems, there would be no permitting such activity.
It's the school day, have a nice day, get back in your seat.
But I know that's passing judgment.
Got to go.
All right.
Let me go to Greg.
Hello, Greg.
Go ahead.
Yeah, good morning and thank you.
You're welcome.
I want to bring a little different plant.
I know.
Not interesting.
But quickly, please, though.
All right.
I've hunted all my life.
I've seen people get what you called Buck Hager,
and that's just simply lots of adrenaline pumping.
I've seen guys pump their live rounds out of their gun,
and they thought they were shooting,
and they weren't even pointing their gun at the buck.
I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff,
and I'm just here to say, in a chaotic situation,
like what we're talking about,
All kinds of crazy things can happen because of the chaos itself.
Well said. Thank you for the call.
Dawn's here, too. Hello, Don. Welcome.
Good morning, Bill. Thank you.
We, the people are almost at the brink of losing all of our common law rights.
We already have administrative courts all over everywhere.
And when you step foot in an administrative court, you have lost all your common law rights.
You will be judged by statutes, codes, and de facto law instead of a, and de jure law.
So we've got to get back to common law.
And with the Chevron deference on the outs last year, we, that's in our favor.
That's actually progress, isn't it?
That's hard to do with the administrative courts.

Time for open for business.
We talked with locally owned and operated businesses.
And believe me, after the last half hour, I need a pallet cleanser.
I really do.
It's pretty intense, okay?
And I'm joining me right now from Network and Action.
Of course, Lisa McLeese-Kelly, and Network in Action.
Lisa, tell us about what it's all about if people have been under a rock
and they haven't known about what Network and Action has been.
And then after all this, what, 15, 20 times you probably had you talk about this.
But you never know.
Repetition is helpful.
So this is where business owners and high-level business professionals come together once a month.
We have a different agenda every month.
It's kind of a mastermind and networking group.
This month, we had everybody break into groups of four and do some questions that were,
some of them were business, some of them were personal, some of them were asking them to be vulnerable.
And then we broke them into four different groups of four.
and everybody brought a problem to solve that they needed solved.
And they picked one person's problem to solve and some major stuff got done.
Okay.
When you say, well, be vulnerable, what, acting like you're under IRS audit?
I mean, how do that?
One of the questions we ask is, what's keeping you up at night?
What's a problem in your business?
So you're going to have to be vulnerable in order to get the help you need from your peers.
Sometimes you have to be vulnerable.
And that's when the biggest success comes.
Then you're able to help figure out some of these problems, right?
Very good.
How can a business person here who's listening join?
What do they do?
Well, they have to get a hold of me at s-o-networking.com.
That's S-O-for-Southern Oregon.
S-O-networking.com.
And then we'll sit down and have a cup of coffee and see if it's a good fit for both of us.
All right, very good.
Now, we have a couple of your members here.
We do.
And we have Tom Randall from State Farm Insurance, like a good neighbor.
How you doing there, Tom?
I'm doing great.
Yeah.
Tell us a little bit about your particular business at State Farm.
Now, which branch are you, by the way, here?
So I'm in Grants Pass next to the hospital.
Okay.
And how long have you been doing it?
I've been doing this for about eight years now, just over.
All right.
And what about the overall experience level of what is going on in your world, huh?
Well, insurance is fun.
Lots of people are struggling, especially if they live out in the middle of nowhere and forests.
Yeah.
How are you working at right now?
A lot of education and a lot of helping.
and if we're not able to help someone, then networking with other business owners and insurance
and helping each other to find solutions.
Okay.
Are you still having the issue in which people are pulling out or big companies are pulling out of the state?
Or has that kind of ended up at this point?
They're getting a lot harder on writing new business for a lot of insurance companies.
State Farm generally has still been really good.
And again, if we can't do it, we're going to help connect somebody, hopefully where they can get that help.
Yeah, I'm glad that.
Now, are you wearing khakis, though?
I don't wear the khakis.
Oh, you don't wear khakis, man.
Next time, I'll wear khakis for you.
Yeah, you do that.
What is probably the best thing that has been helpful about being in network and action with Lisa and the other business members?
It's really connecting with other business owners and being able to build a real relationship with them so that you get to know them and understand them and what they're looking for and what they're doing and really what drives them in their business.
And once again, we're talking with Tom Randall at State Farm Insurance.
So it's on 337 Union Avenue, Sweet A in Grants Pass.
Best yet.
Call for a quote, 474, 4,900, get in touch with you.
Anybody else there, too?
They should talk to.
My whole team is fully licensed.
Oh, they're awesome.
All right, very good.
Good talking with you.
Now, we're going to bring the other gentleman up to the microphone right now.
That would be Justin Sanders.
Of Sanders' homes.
What is Sanders' homes?
Get right up on that microphone.
We are a residential building company, so we specialize in new home construction, and we also do remodels.
How many homes are you built over the years?
Probably average one a year and then doing remodels in between.
I would like to have more new homes on the books.
And I'm just kind of curious, how has interest rate,
how have the interest rates been treating you?
Anything moving on that right now?
It slowed down a lot since COVID.
We were really busy coming into COVID.
And then kind of like 2021, a lot of the new homes have kind of really slowed down
and the remodels have kind of taken over for right now.
Yeah, what's the most exciting thing about being in this business, though?
I mean, in one respect, you are kind of your own boss, but you're on a schedule of sorts, I guess.
It's building relationships with the clients, so getting new clients, building new friendships, and problem solving.
I mean, every remodel is a problem to be solved.
Okay. Tell us about some of the weirdest problems you've had, if you don't mind.
Doing really old homes, you'll find all sorts of knick-knacks hitting in the walls.
Yeah?
We demoed a wall just a couple weeks ago and found like a doll from probably the 1800s.
And it was just like in the wall?
Yeah, it's stuck in the drywall.
Built in the wall.
No bodies, no, right?
No, nothing like that.
Okay, glad to know that.
How can people get a hold of you and find out more?
Because, you know, get in touch.
If you're looking for a good friendly builder, I think you can help them out, huh?
You can find us on our website.
It's Sanders-homes.com.
We're also on Facebook and Instagram.
All right.
And phone number?
The phone number is...
Oh, wait a minute.
I have a year.
I'm asking him something I should know.
Okay.
So that will be 351, 8050.
All right.
Good seeing you.
And what has a network and action done for you?
Making new friendships has been a big thing.
And then just challenging for personal growth,
the topics that we get brought up sometimes over our monthly meetings.
It helps me reflect a lot more in personal life.
And that kind of helps me and then kind of take.
that energy back into the business. Very good. Glad. Thanks for coming in this morning on Open for Business.
So, Lisa, one more time, if you wanted to join, if you wanted to join Justin and Tom and many other
businesses, how many people you have on your team right now? 50. 50? Yeah, we have about 50 business
owners. Yeah. Boy, you're growing. Yeah. Remember when you just had a handful, huh? Yeah. That's been good.
We're blessed. What do you do? So sot networking.com, and I just want to give Tom a real quick plug,
Fire Maps. He saved us at our house out in Rogue River from, we got dropped by ours.
Oh, really? Yeah. Good to know. Thanks very much, Tom.
Other thing I'm going to ask you, wipe out hunger. This is for a different business.
Yes, for Kelly's Automotive Service. How is Kelly's doing? How is that working so far?
So we have great business partners, including Tom. He brought in $1,000 worth of peanut butter and jelly.
And that's been helping, but the lack of rain has really slowed down the general public from bringing in peanut butter and jelly.
So all you have to do is bring in 40 ounces of peanut butter, 12 ounces of jelly.
We'll put a pair of windshield wipers on your vehicle before you leave up to $45 in value.
How much longer are you doing it?
Until February 13th.
Okay, good.
I'm going to get on that.
Thank you very much.
Yeah, thank you.
It worked really well, okay?
Thanks so much, Lisa.
And thank you for being here on Open for Business gentlemen, okay?
It is $8.55 and change.

Granny writes me this morning, Bill, I am holding on to my hope that,
President Trump is correct that Tom Holman is a pit bull.
It is what is being said behind the scenes that will end up changing things.
I hope you're right about that, too.
I'm just a little bit concerned that I don't want to see them back away with one of the key election promises.
And a promise that he's been really keeping here.
And if you allow the urban hive minds just to do what they want and go away,
that's not necessarily going to – it's not going to look good.
Okay, all right.

We have Star writing me, Bill.
