You're hearing the Bill Myers Show on 106.3 KMED.
It's 847.
Open for Business is on, and we've been having a series of talks with the people from Network in Action.
Network in Action.
Lisa McLeese Kelly, of course, is the head networker, I guess, would that be?
Sure, I'm the facilitator.
The facilitator.
Yes.
Facilitator and networker.
But you've brought a couple more people in here this morning, which I think is a lot of fun.
And that includes, we have Matthew Allen from American Senior, which is about reverse mortgages.
Charlie Kirshman from Rogue Tech Pros.
We'll talk with him in just a minute.
But for those that don't know and they're just joining and they've never heard of Network in Action,
this is something you've been doing to get businesses together.
And what's the story there briefly?
Yeah, so we have three different groups and another group starting.
We have a group in Grants Pass, a group in Medford.
We have a Christian group that meets once a month.
And then we are starting another Christian group online.
So basically it's business professionals that come together to get to know each other,
to help educate them, help them grow their business, grow as a person, and get referrals.
So it's all of those things together.
And how does it end up helping the business ultimately besides the referrals?
Is there ways to help these businesses?
Yeah, well, I'd love to hear these guys answer that question.
Okay, all right.
Well, I'll tell you what.
Why don't we talk with Charlie Kirschman from Rogue Tech Pros.
First off, what is Rogue Tech Pros all about, Charlie?
We support small businesses.
Hang on just a second here, Charlie.
Something not quite working.
Why don't you just borrow?
Why don't we just use this one?
Yeah, we'll just use that one.
All right, good morning.
Okay.
Rogue Tech Pros is a business where we support local businesses with quality IT support and make IT simple for them so they can continue focusing on growing their business. Okay. And how can people get in touch with you,
by the way? Yeah, they can reach us at roguetechpros.com. They can reach out to me
personally at Charlie, C-H-A-R-L-I-E at roguetechpros.com or 541-299-2100.
What is the biggest misconception I think that people may have about what your
business is, you know, helping people with their tech world? Yeah, oftentimes it's around
cybersecurity and that they're a small business in Southern Oregon, so they're not a target,
which in reality, those vulnerabilities are actually what make them a large target.
Have you had that experience then with clients that, you know,
think that, well, we're just in Medford and no problem. Of course, we've even known some of the
cities have been hacked, haven't they? Yeah, yeah, they have. And, you know, fortunately,
we take backup. Not only do we put security on the front end, but then we have backups for
if anything were to happen. So you're kind of a Swiss army knife then in the high-tech world?
Yeah, we try to be that for our clients all right okay this is
something this is kind of i don't know if this is even in your wheelhouse wheelhouse right now okay
you know that everyone's been talking about the deep seek thing from china right now yeah a little
bit would you download that i probably wouldn't trust anything of that nature at this point you
want to hold off on that one it's very little okay i just thought i'd ask you all right okay see
you know see that's what a tech guy should be doing telling you to be careful yeah it's always that three second rule just give
it three seconds and kind of take a step back okay so let everybody else then uh make the mistake
with uh downloading this uh ai deal i'm gonna hold off what's the biggest mistake that people
make in their tech though besides the fact thinking that they don't need you know tech help
yeah wait until things break um which causes downtime for their business and frustration.
Let's be proactive and stay a step ahead
and monitor these things
so that way you don't have that downtime in your business.
Very cool.
How has being part of Network in Action helped you so far?
Can you talk about that?
Yeah, I love the genuine connections
with other small business owners,
getting to sit down with these leaders in our community that are bettering our cities, and then sitting down and getting to know the
actual people behind the business and pray with them and grow their business with them.
Charlie, I really appreciate you stopping by. Thanks. We wanted to make sure and get everybody
gets a chance at the microphone. So we're going to have, well, actually, I've had Matt Allen on
the program here several times over the years. The problem is the microphone is awfully short.
You're a tall guy.
I didn't know how tall you were.
There it is.
There we go.
But anyway, Matthew Allen from American Senior, and that's reverse mortgage.
And I've talked with you about this sort of stuff before, though.
Yes.
And we'll talk about it here in just a minute.
What has Network in Action done to assist you in your business world yeah i
think the great thing about network in action is you get to meet other like charlie just said you
get to meet other business owners but for me it's then i have a trusted referral partner for a
variety of different needs from my clients uh knowing that they're going to be taken well
taken care of and the other thing network in action is not like your traditional networking
club from the standpoint of like you're just passing out cards and it's networking action is not like your traditional networking club from the
standpoint of like you're just passing out cards and it's really it's not like you're being charged
for having been showing up in a news reporter right hey give me 40 bucks right kitty right yeah
there's a lot of activities that help us think about you know how can we grow our business how
can we refer how can we better be better partners with our referral partners? So there's a lot more education and training and insight into
the growth of your own business, not just the networking part. Matt, why don't you give us the
20,000 foot level overview of a reverse mortgage in a little bit of time here. Could you? Yeah.
Reverse mortgage is just a mortgage. You still got to pay your taxes,
still got to pay your homeowner's insurance. You remain on title, but it's a mortgage.
The big difference is that monthly payments are optional, right? You can make a payment.
You don't have to make a payment. It just gives people a lot of financial flexibility
during their retirement years. Who might be best suited or why would someone want to use a reverse mortgage?
Yeah. So I would say most of the people that I work with are doing it because they've either
lost a spouse and they've lost income. They didn't save well for retirement or they've spent
all of their, or are about ready to run out of retirement savings.
So they're house rich, cash poor.
Correct. Yep. Yep. That's
great summary. And so the reverse mortgage allows us to tap into that wealth without impacting their
cashflow, right? Because there is no payment required. So it just gives seniors a lot of
flexibility. Okay. Very good. And now interest rates are relatively high right now. How does
that impact the reverse mortgage? Yeah, so with where rates are at right now compared to two or
three years ago is it essentially has reduced what people could borrow by about 20%. Okay,
but it hasn't killed it though. It hasn't killed it. All right. There's still a lot of opportunity
there for seniors to look at.
Okay. So a lot of equity in that home and that's a way for you to, well, creatively finance your
retirement, I guess is really what you're talking about, right? How do people get ahold of you?
Give me a call, 541-897-4464. Or you can also go to americanseniorfinance.com.
All right. very good.
Matt, great to see you in person.
Thank you. Like I said, we've talked on the phone for many, many years.
So, Lisa, back to what's going on with Network in Action here.
When are your next events?
Do you have any more events that people need to know about?
The best thing for them to do is to go to networkinaction.com
and, say, find a meeting and then look for us. And then our schedule is going
to be on there. So this morning we had a great online Christian networking event, and I was a
little worried about it because it's not in person and it's online, but it was amazing. God showed up
and it was pretty amazing. So especially for those Christian business owners out there, we have
one group that meets that Charlie is in on Tuesdays,
second Tuesday of the month. And then we're starting another one second Tuesday of the
month in the morning at 7 a.m. online. All right. Very good. Thank you so much for having come in.
All right. Now I'm open for business and may your businesses thrive. Okay. Thanks. That's
what this is all about. It is 855 at KMED 99.3 KBXG. You're invited to experience.
