Starting point is 00:00:00 The Bill Myers Show podcast is sponsored by Clouser Drilling. They've been leading the way in Southern Oregon well drilling for over 50 years. Find out more about them at clouserdrilling.com. 51. There you go. And weather, by the way, sponsored by Advanced Air. All right, Advanced Air, myadvancedair.com. Nine minutes after eight.
Starting point is 00:00:17 And let me head to John. We got John and Michael standing by. A little comment on the Herman and Bill talk, a little spitballing on Trump's challenges and how he's going to be getting it from even his own side, I think, in the near future. But hey, John, what are you thinking? Go ahead. Well, the background to this, I had a cousin who is the oldest son and inherited a farm in Nebraska.
Starting point is 00:00:43 He was a bohonk, if you know the term. He took all the subsidies and the incentives and built up the farm. And then Reagan came in, and all those subsidies and everything became due. And he lost the farm. Oh. All those subsidies and everything became due, and he lost the farm. Oh. So that's what happens when all the extra money goes away. And we could be witnessing a repeat of history rhyming a little bit, you're thinking, John?
Starting point is 00:01:19 A little bit of that? Yes, very much. All right. The corporations ended up buying the farm. Yeah. A challenge that we're running into right now, though, is that I have to be honest about the way our system has been set up. Federal Reserve, Fed Reserve, has really been about bailing out corporate and banking issues here over the last few years. You look at all of the crashes that have been going on, the big financial crisis of 2008. People like you and me and regular folks ended up losing their
Starting point is 00:01:46 homes, let's say, many times. But other people were kept whole because, gosh, if you don't save the banking system right now, John, the world will come to an end. I think we've learned our lesson. The end came for him. Yeah, it came for him, right. Let me go to Michael Shaw. Hello, Michael. How are you doing this morning? Welcome. Well, I woke up this morning, so I guess I'm okay.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Good for you. Glad to hear it. What's up? The conversation that you had with Herman about the debt is one that you and I have talked about off and on over several years. The United States federal government holds 600 million acres of land. And like any other debtor, when you can't pay your debt, you have to sell your assets. I agree with Trump trying to reduce the overhead, reduce the cost of running the government, making it smaller. But you do have to pay that debt. The federal government has to start selling assets, and they have land that is a great asset. I would not agree or disagree with you at one bit on this one.
Starting point is 00:02:58 And you look at Oregon, even Jackson County, Josephine County, what, more than 50% of Oregon right now is controlled by the federal government? Could you imagine what would happen if even a tenth of that or a twentieth of that were sold off then? What do you think? Well, you know, I've written things down over the years. So if you've got left-wing ultra-exo nuts that want a green city, sell them 100,000 acres or 50,000 acres. They can go out somewhere and build a brand-new, from the ground up, green city to their heart's content. You see, that's a great point.
Starting point is 00:03:44 All right? Look at Ashland, for example, right? Yep. So once you get outside of Ashland and you're out there in the wooing and then you're going out into the temperate areas, okay, you really believe you want to keep the monument the way it is right now, right? You don't want to do anything there? We'll sell you the monument.
Starting point is 00:04:05 What would you think about that? Well, absolutely. But, you know, as I said, take it to the extreme that you can build a city with light rail system, with fiber lines for internet. You can build it from the ground up if you want just go out where there's nothing right now that's fed the land buy the land and do it to your heart's content and see what works until the next wildfire comes through right well you know you do it out in nevada you know wildfire out there the rock all right there you go hey michael thanks for the call 13 after eight
Starting point is 00:04:45 hour of the bill myers show is sponsored by fontana roofing for roofing gutters and sheet metal services visit fontana roofing services.com this is an emergency alert from jackson county emergency management imagine if instead of this ad you were receiving an evacuation notice. Would you be prepared at that very moment? Happy to take your calls and more on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday, 770-5633. Now, Michael had an interesting thought. He says, you know, you got this $36, $37, $30 trillion national debt, and you're not going to be able to tax everybody to pay this. You're probably not going to grow your way out of it to the extent to pay off that much.
Starting point is 00:05:26 You know, that much. So the federal government has to start selling assets, including you look at more than half of Oregon, which is under control of FedGov. Would you be in favor of that? And I was thinking about this. You know, you look at how the monuments here in southern Oregon, as an example, the Cascades-Hiskew Monument. Look at all that biofauna or something like that. Okay, well, if Ashland wants to continue to have something like that unproductive, they could buy the monument. And then they could manage the monument.
Starting point is 00:05:57 And they could do their techno-timber-free utopia of some sort. I don't know. It could be interesting to actually have the cities just buy the fed land around it or even the counties the counties could buy that that would be interesting what do you think about that lona lona's in shady cove you're surrounded by a lot of fed land aren't you welcome hi yes i am but i'd be real concerned about who owns that or purchases that property, U.S. government property, that it's not another government. How would you... Another country. Okay, so yeah, you wouldn't necessarily want communist China coming in and then, you know, bidding a buck a dollar for 100,000 acres,
Starting point is 00:06:38 right? And then off we go, that kind of thing. That's for sure. And I think there's too many other countries owning property at the current in the United States. Yeah. I know a lot of other countries refuse to let American citizens purchase property in their lands. Mexico is one that I think, I think if you go down to Mexico, you might be able to partner with a Mexican. But, you know, you're not able to just buy the stuff on your own, are you? No, I understand. I had two of my children went on exchange programs to Mexico, and I visited them there, and I understood that that wouldn't be possible. I pulled up a graph for the national debt since 1990.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I think if people would pull that up and kind of look at this for a bit and really see where it's come, especially since, like you said, 2008, this is just ridiculous that we have this much debt. Do you think that Americans are disciplined enough, though, to be able to accept some pain in their own personal circumstances in order to save the country? What do you think about that, Lona? I don't know if Americans have been conditioned to not have any pain because the government will support them. And my concern for timber companies, I still have a nephew that owns a fairly big business in Sweet Home, Oregon, harvesting timber with the timber harvesters and everything. And my father came here in the early 1950s with his power saw, and that's how I was raised in a timber family. That's how he started, huh? Just brought his saw, and here we go, huh?
Starting point is 00:08:32 And I was taught that you work for your own. I managed to purchase a home at 40 years old as a single parent and have it paid for by the time I was 65 because I was disciplined, and I never counted on the government to hand out to me. I was not going to have my children in Gilchrist, Oregon, learn to go to school and be on free lunches and me walk out to the mailbox and pick up food stamps. I worked two and three jobs. I drove school bus for over 20 years. I drove whitewater rafting bus when we couldn't draw unemployment in the summers. And I drove the Mount Bachelor ski buses in the winter. Okay, there's a lot to admire there.
Starting point is 00:09:11 There's a lot to admire in your story there, Lona. Okay, I appreciate that. But I'll keep... People aren't conditioned in the U.S. to suffer at all. Yeah, that's what I was kind of wondering. I was kind of wondering if, and if we're not willing to take some pain now, boy, some super pain's going to be, you know, just going medieval on our behinds if, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:34 if we end up not being able to. And if we don't stop the handouts, we're not going to have the employees to fill the mills. Now, the way of looking at it. Thank you for the call, Lona. Thank you. Uh-huh, thank you. Lona in Shady Cove. What do you think about what she has to say to 7705633 some other news i wanted to get to
Starting point is 00:09:51 this morning also and i got this from holly morton because uh state senator noel robinson ended up putting out a call and he's saying that there are a couple of senate bills coming up for a public hearing this thursday that we oppose and have been receiving a lot of negative feedback about we need public testimony against them if you have not reviewed senate bill 77 and 78 the basic information links are in the attachments and this is what noah left me a note here. Senate Bill 77 would dramatically negatively affect some small businesses, and Senate Bill 78 is an attempt to once again restrict property owners' rights to use their land as they need. Put the call out for testimony to your list of contacts to see if we can get some help on these. We need to protect the rights of small businesses and property owners.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Now, let me tell you a little bit. This is kind of like the summary from Senate Bill 77. This bill describes work that may be done, that may be done from within homes on land, zone for forest or farm use. It would limit the number of employees an at-home business may retain to no more than five full or part-time individuals. So they're limiting the amount of people that could work in your business. It will restrict the number of clients and sizes of events at-home businesses may have at any time.
Starting point is 00:11:16 So if you end up having weddings or you've got your... Of course, there was that talk about that medicinal mushroom place in South Jackson County, right? That they wanted to go out there and have these big events. It would limit that. It would confine signage, advertising, and parking opportunities around the business, affecting visibility and ease of access. And it limits the operating area of a business to no more than 2,000 square feet within the dwelling or accessory structure.
Starting point is 00:11:44 My house is only a little bit less than that. It's close to this 2,000 square feet within the dwelling or accessory structure. My house is only a little bit less than that. It's close to this 2,000 square feet. So the size of my house, which is not a big house by any stretch, that would be the limit of your at-home business allowed under Senate Bill 77. This is something to keep in mind. If you'd like to find out more about that, you can register to testify. Email bill at billmyershow.com, and I will send along the information from Senator Robinson. Now, Senate Bill 78. This would establish the maximum size of replacement buildings on land zoned for forest or farm use. So any replacement dwelling to 2,500 square feet are no more than 10% larger than the original,
Starting point is 00:12:23 and the replacement building needs to be on the same lot so you can't move it and it also ensures that the original dwelling must be removed demolished or converted to an allowable non-residential use i mean once again with this state control state control the state legislature the people pushing 77 and 78 are trying to once again tell you everything you can't do. You cannot, you cannot, you cannot, but oh, keep sending those taxes. All right? So just send me an email if you'd like to get more information.
Starting point is 00:12:54 I'll send you what Senator Robinson sent me. Okay? 25 after 8 at KMED, 99.3 KBXG. Are we getting overly excited about the measles epidemic? I have a note here from Dr. Jane Orient, MD, and she sent that to me last night. I'll share that with you next. Rule number one, if you're looking to sell a home, choose a local real estate agent. Hey, it's Lars.
Starting point is 00:13:15 And why? It starts with an overall knowledge of the area. But even more importantly, a local agent is a friend and neighbor who cares about the community just as much as you do. In the Medford area, that'd be my good friend Jared Hokanson of Hokanson Realty. Jared's a native of the Pacific Northwest, and his wife, Colette, is a former Oregon Young Mother of the Year. She's the executive director of the association of american physicians and surgeons aaps online.org i am signed up for their uh on their email list and i'm a member kind of like what they call um i don't know if it's a media member wherever it is just
Starting point is 00:15:37 you know someone who is not a doctor but still liking to read about doctors and of course she helped me understand a lot about the COVID time. And it was, they were definitely much more pro-med, well, they were staunchly pro-medical freedom. You know, everything about the being forced to get the jab, talking about how it didn't work, getting into the science of what actually happened with COVID and so much more. And I've learned so much from her over the years.
Starting point is 00:16:09 But she wrote me then about the latest hyperventilation in the media about the measles outbreak in Texas. Now, the thing is, though, is that we got about 150 down there by the southern border, and we had one child die. And the media is doing just a huge job of hyperventilating about this. And what Dr. Jane ended up telling me this morning here is, Bill, I hope you're keeping your immune system in top shape, good food, exercise, sunlight, and adequate levels of vitamin A, C, and D. You are probably aware that there are more than 146 cases of measles in Texas. One child has died. But the graphs below of the cases and the deaths give some perspective. It was once considered a right of childhood that almost everybody got. And yeah, I got measles when I was in high school, doctor. I remember this. But she continues,
Starting point is 00:16:58 measles has become a source of panic. While patients ordinarily recover uneventfully, some have long-term adverse effects such as deafness or brain damage, and a few die. It is extremely contagious. However, both the case rate and the death rate have plummeted since 1960, and death rates have been sharply decreasing since 1920, mostly because of improvements in sanitation and nutrition that eliminated about 98% of the measles deaths before 1960. Now remember here, remember 98% of the measles deaths were eliminated before I was even born, folks. Okay? The first measles vaccine didn't come until 1963. Vaccine coverages were around 50 to 60 percent in the
Starting point is 00:17:47 1970s, but despite more than 90 percent coverage now, measles has not been eradicated, nor can it be. The vaccine is not perfect, so it's not a sterilizing vaccine, apparently. Children can still get infected and transmit measles, especially if they get atypical measles, which is not recognized, and the immunity goes down with time. The result of measles vaccination are not all good. It has changed the age distribution of infections to older children and adults, who are more seriously affected than school kids, and also transferred it to babies who no longer are protected by the natural immunity that their mothers had.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Newly confirmed HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. saying that the outbreak is a highest priority and is supplying 2,000 doses of MMR vaccine. He stated all parents should consult with their health care providers to understand their options to get the MMR. The decision to vaccinate is a personal one. He also said CDC has recently updated their recommendations supporting administering vitamin A under the supervision of a physician for those that have mild, moderate, and severe infections. Studies have found that vitamin A can dramatically reduce measles mortality. So some pretty good information from Dr. Jane Orient, MD. I do find it interesting that they're talking about the MMR vaccine because the MMR is the vaccine that even today in Japan,
Starting point is 00:19:12 they do not permit MMR being used because they had problems with it on their kids and autism and other sort of situations. I know we're not supposed to say that, but I can just tell you that's what happened. You know, Japan banned the MMR. And the challenge with these multiple vaccines, and once again, I'm not a doctor, but I've learned this from doctors like Dr. Jane or A&MD, is that when they do these multiple vaccines into one, like measles, mumps, rubella, MMR, that's what the MMR stands for, the vaccines are tested individually and they'll say they're safe and effective. But what they don't do is test them combined into one. It's a very different kettle of fish.
Starting point is 00:19:54 So anyway, stay healthy. And remember, 98% of all the deaths that ever occurred before from measles were taken care of just by improving nutrition and sanitation. That took care of most of it. And the vaccine came much, much later. So something to keep in mind. I just thought that was really darn interesting. 7705633, let me go to line one. Hi, good morning.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Who's this on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday? Oh, you didn't want to hang on. That's fine. That's all right. We'll go back to some open phones a little bit later. This is the Bill Myers Show, and you're on KMED. More news next. Service is the difference with Sweetwater Sanitation, your experts for sanitation services and portable restrooms. Sweetwater Sanitation where service is the difference. From the KMED News Center here's what's going on. Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency is closing more than 100 IRS field offices, including two in Oregon. Doge says closing offices in Bend and Salem will save the federal government around $450,000 a year in lease payments. Oregon Senator Ron Wyden issued a statement saying the consequences for families in Oregon and across the country are real and dire.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Telecommunications topped the list of consumer complaints last year to the Oregon Attorney General's office. Imposter scams were second, followed by auto sales and auto repair. The Attorney General's consumer hotline received over 22,000 calls and 9,200 written complaints. A former Oregon Youth Authority counselor was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for having sex with a young adult in her care. Emily Etchenkamp was responsible for the victim's substance abuse and mental health treatment. She met the victim in places she knew were not monitored. Bill London, KMED.
Starting point is 00:21:59 8.34, Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday continues. Hey, Lynn, how are you doing this morning? What's on your mind? Gosh, we did a couple of things talking about some vaccines, MMR, from Dr. Jane Orient and also the debt. What were you thinking about that? Yeah, a couple things. As far as the debt goes, I wanted to point out that $37 trillion doesn't take into account the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare. And when you add those in, you're getting up to $100 trillion, which is more money than exists in the entire planet. So it's very
Starting point is 00:22:30 dire. And I have said for a long time, we need to just have across-the-board cuts. And I would always get pushback from politicians. Oh, no, we just, you know, we can only cut the things that are, you know, that are bad. But the problem is people just fight among themselves and nothing ever happens. Yeah, so you almost need to make it like a meet. Now, I will ask this question of you, as I did to other listeners that called about this subject a little bit earlier. Do you believe that Americans are disciplined enough to understand that everyone's going to be taking some pain if we're going to be able to save the system or save us, save
Starting point is 00:23:04 essentially the United States as a going concern. Do you have any thoughts on that? Well, our leaders need to teach us this. And this wasn't much of a campaign issue because people don't want to hear about it. But I think there's a real opportunity. And then if the cuts, you know, they get rid of the abuse and the waste and the fraud as much as they can, and then it's just a flat 10 percent across the board cut for everybody. I think it could work because everyone can cut 10 percent in the government.
Starting point is 00:23:32 I'm sorry. I'm not concerned. So anyway, I hope that's what happens. And then I wanted to point out, I wanted to talk about measles. Yeah, the measles thing. Yeah. Dr. Jane Orient, MD, sent me an interesting, like I said, good email overnight on this. Yeah, that was great stuff. And, you know, in the 70s, we used to watch the Brady Bunch every Friday night. And one of the episodes was when the whole family got measles.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And it was great for the kids because they didn't have to go to school. So nobody used to be scared of it. It can be a problem. But normally where is a problem is populations in which not a lot of good sanitation and not a lot of good nutrition. And I would argue that the 150 in South Texas are arguably probably in illegal immigrant communities, you know, that kind of thing. I think actually what I have read is they're Mennonites. Oh, Mennonites too. Oh, that's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:24:23 You're right. You're right. I was wrong about that. they're Mennonites. Oh, Mennonites too. Oh, that's right. That's right. You're right. You're right. I was wrong about that. Okay. Mennonites. It's an unvaccinated population, but, you know, there have been more than 500 deaths reported to VAERS from the MMR vaccine. We have one child death in more than 20 years.
Starting point is 00:24:41 So, you know, people might have reason to not want to get the NMR. And I think that's fine. And you can treat it. And I wanted to point out Bobby Kennedy, a lot of people in the medical freedom movement are calling Bobby Kennedy a spell out because of his editorial in Fox News, where he just talked very objectively about the vaccine. But the thing is, I thought it was brilliant. First of all, if you thought he was anti-vax, you don't know Bobby Kennedy. He's never been anti-vax. Yeah, he just cut the knees out from under that argument. Okay, yeah. Yeah, but what he talked about is the CDC is updating guidance for treatment and bringing in vitamin A and these other natural approaches, this was never allowed before.
Starting point is 00:25:25 So he's moving the Overton window, and he's maintaining that it has to be a personal choice. That enough is going to make some heads explode. But all these people who are like, oh, he's betrayed us. That's just a bunch of BS. You just were projecting onto him what you wanted him to be all about. But it's great as long as we have freedom, and then he's going to get the truth about, you know, the MMR study showed that if you got it under the age of three, your risk of autism was dramatically higher. And that's what the whole movie Vaxxed is about and how they committed fraud and lied about it. And all that's going to come out.
Starting point is 00:26:05 And when the studies come out, people can make their own decisions with accurate information when they finally release, you know, the stuff that's been censored all these years. Good. You know what I'm kind of hoping, and I don't know if Kennedy is going to focus on this, but it is now pretty much known when you go and you and you look at any reasonable research uh research out there that the entire united states regular food supply chain if you want to call that is just drowning in inflammatory seed oils i'm talking about that's one of his big things is that going to be a big thing for him because i I have to tell you, you look at the difference, and I know it cost me a little more money.
Starting point is 00:26:47 I switched completely to avocado oil for frying, and I'm still using olive oil. Because you read about the inflammatory effects of corn oil, safflower oil, all of these other seed oils, cotton seed oil, all these oils that have been used because they're relatively inexpensive within the system. And you see the inflammation that the science has demonstrated is happening here. And it's in everything, practically any prepared food that you go out there, any restaurant that you go to, it's drowning in it too. You know, because memory, yeah, we got rid
Starting point is 00:27:26 of, we got rid of beef tallow because, you know, now we've gone to vegetable oil. How bad could vegetable oil be? Really bad. It's, it turns out. And well, I was raised on margarine. Oh my God. Same thing. We were told the same thing. Promise. Right. And now, you know, butter is much better for you. And that, uh, beef tallow is what we should be frying our stuff in, apparently. Eat food the way God made it. Don't support the stuff. Stay away from it. And it's the best thing you can do. Well, I'm looking
Starting point is 00:27:53 forward to more conversations like that coming around, okay? Thank you so much, Lynn. Okay? Thank you. 20 before 9 on KMED. This hour of the Bill Myers Show is sponsored by Fontana Roofing. For roofing, gutters, and sheet metal services, visit fontanaroofingservices.com. Fontana Roofing keeps rolling out new products, constantly challenging their in-house creation.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Hi, this is Mark from Jay Austin, and I'm on KMED. 857, we've got a couple of minutes left before Mark Levain, Camp, and Robbins are rolling in here. Plus 99.3, the jukebox. Hey, David, down in the bay area, right, David? Welcome back. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, and I was just going to warn everybody, if you've got Norton or any other kind of security system, reboot it 10 times a day. Donald Trump has turned off the security systems for America for hackers. How did he do this? I've not read about that, David. Let me know, please. Well, it's in the network news at the top of the hour. Hegsmith, the new Defense Department feller, he's been authorized to turn it off.
Starting point is 00:29:04 And apparently this was part of the negotiations regarding Ukraine. Donald Trump thinks that the Soviet Union or Russia is now a pal and that any kind of Internet connections with them, including security hacking, is okay. Are you sure that he said specifically that any Internet hacking is okay coming from Russia? Really? Well, if you were to think about it as the military, Donald Trump likes them just fine. But the privatized hackers, I guess they're included, huh? Okay, no, I didn't make that assumption, but that's a very interesting conclusion to draw from this, that all of a sudden hackathons are okay and we're all right. I just didn't read that into it, but it's all right.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Hey, we're always allowed to have our own. So you're saying reboot our computers and make sure that we get our antivirus because Vlad's coming, right? Take it. I'm playing Paul Revere here. If you want to roll over and go back to sleep, that's up to you. Okay. I'm warning people. And by the way, upstream of you, of course, is Hanford, and Donald Trump has fired a bunch of people up there. So watch your water. Just remember, though, that that was a tiny percentage of that.
Starting point is 00:30:32 There's about 10,000 people that work there. It's all right. It's okay. I sleep all right, David. Thanks for the call, all right? All right. On that note, tomorrow is Wheels Up Wednesday. If you have any comment on things that are going on or any questions,
Starting point is 00:30:47 we're going to be talking with Eric Peters, and that is always a great conversation. Tonight, President addresses the nation. This is not an official State of the Nation deal, so we're not going to be covering that tonight. Next year, we will do that, so it will be Joe Paggs giving his take on things. But also email Bill at Bill bill myers show.com and i hope we have a great conversation again tomorrow thanks so much southern oregon's place to talk
