This is the Bill Myers Show at 770-5633.
There's open phones on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday.
And of course, a little subtext of it though, is what is your ranking of Trump?
What would you say is a good rating for President Trump?
Grade him, in other words.
It's 100 days, it's been exciting, it's been exhausting,
it's been a little bit of everything.
And I'm gonna continue to insist, an A on the border.
The border policy is winning,
the encounter is way, way down, A lot of self-deporting
going on. I think this is smart. That's been happening. He's having to fight a lot of judges
there. I think that's very good. The economy, kind of an open book right now. It's an open
question. It's going to take time before we figure out whether the tariff grenade dropped into things is going to make a serious difference or not.
The culture war definitely
better than it was,
may not be perfect. I would say a B on stuff like, okay,
we're not going to coddle the island of misfit humans and you know, we're gonna say, hey listen,
as far as transgender
soldiers baloney you know we're going to actually have soldiers according to
their military readiness of course the courts are trying to stop that too a
lot of this is the war against the judiciary or the judiciary you're
actually warring against the Trump administration so give me a great overall
give me your opinion there there's nothing right or wrong. But 7705633770KMED. Okay. Love to talk with you about that. Something else I'd also like to get
into is a question I'm having. It's a pebble in my shoe. Since it is Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday,
I got off I-5 yesterday and I'm out there by Road Valley Mall. I'm at exit 27 and I'm getting off.
And I hadn't driven toward the mall in that
direction for a little while. And sometimes it's difficult to keep track of every kind of road
construction or road policy because, you know, the gangrene stuff is always coming at us there.
But the road was just completely plugged up and going very
slowly and there was a sign that said new traffic pattern coming up here. And
so you turn right on a highway 62 and I'm heading towards the Rogue Valley
Mall and it's like two lanes and then I noticed off to the right
It looked like things had been changed around did I miss something because it appears that they had paved
that they had actually taken a roadway and
Did a whole bunch of paving of
Of a new sidewalk, and I'd like they put a whole new wide sidewalk
it's like they took the sidewalk and they made the sidewalk
about four sidewalks wide with concrete.
And ended up taking a road of travel or one of the travel lanes away.
Now I've not driven that a whole lot
for a while. I haven't been going back and forth to the mall very often.
A lot of times when I'm going to Highway 62, I'll go and head down Table Rock and I'll
go over to 99 and then I'll cut over to 238 at that point.
But that was causing a whole ton of a mess because it was like two lanes and the right
lane that you would normally turn right over there by the grocery store there in Wendy's was closed.
Now I guess that was causing some of it, but was there some policy, some gangrene deal
that said that we're going to take the sidewalk and cut into the road or is it just my imagination?
The sidewalk looked brand new.
And if anybody knows, just let me know okay 7705633
sometimes there are so many little construction projects things that
come by that I don't I don't get it all and maybe I missed that maybe I missed
that conversation and I met for maybe maybe I could ask Brad Bennington about
that he's gonna come on tomorrow we're gonna talk about the planning situation
he's on the Planning Commission but it sure looks like there's this extent
there. Like we're going to get rid of a car travel lane and make the sidewalk extra, extra,
extra wide. And maybe I'm wrong, but it looks brand new. Tell me if you know. All right.

7705633, it is Open Phones on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. And there was a pebble in my shoe and Kristen, who is a truck driver, her drive's truck though,
has very graciously tried to help me out with what's happening on Highway 62.
How are you doing this morning, Kristen?
Welcome.
I'm doing good.
Thank you and I
wanted to bring up an issue like I said the the traffic was just completely snarled over there by the Rogue Valley Mall and
Then I noticed that there seemed to be a lane of travel closed and of course I get that maybe they're gonna do a little bit of work on this but it appears to me that they took the sidewalk, which was perfectly adequate before, and then
added about three sidewalk widths into the travel lanes.
Now is that the way it... did that happen?
It's like all of a sudden he just disappeared and obviously I have not driven on 62 enough
by the mall.
I'm just curious.
What do you know since you go there every day? I go there a couple of times every day heading into the mill.
But the jibber-jabber out there is that yes, they're widening the sidewalk and making it ginormous.
Which in return has cut down the lanes and it's a joke getting through there every single day.
Oh, it was insane. I was actually listening to our sister station, Cool,
and it took me three songs to get through that area, turning right on 62 before I got to 99
and the stoplight there. Oh, you did good.
I did. Oh. Yeah.
Okay. So what I'd like to find out here is what mental midget decided
that we're going to take away a lane of traffic on one of the most heavily traveled main routes.
That is not a little side street there. And who said that we needed a sidewalk as wide
as the roadway in that neighborhood? Is this some green plan that is this for all of the the studio apartments and over there at you
know over by Trader Joe's? I'm kind of wondering what's going on. I'm posing a
question I don't know the answer to but... I have no clue how anybody could have ever
come up with that with like just the general traffic
and then you know there's so much back in and through there that that's the
main you know that's the access to it as far as all the truck traffic and all the
mills and yeah the distributiony type areas that are back over there I mean
the truck traffic alone is insane, not to mention
the passenger car.
Yeah. Now, wasn't that three lanes at one point? Because it seems to be two now.
It's two narrow lanes.
Two narrow lanes. Okay.
I mean, and when you get two trucks abreast through there, and then you've got the center median turn laney
stuff to go into the mall. Yeah. Like on that corner there. It's tight. Yeah I'm
just wondering what was the logic for tripling the width of the sidewalk. The
other sidewalk was perfectly fine. People were able to get up and down there.
The only thing I can come up with with them widening it out is the amount
of zombies that are wandering and staggering into the road through there.
Oh that's why we need to triple all you have to triple the width of the
sidewalks for the zombie traffic. Got it. And all their oversized loads
that they're dragging behind their bicycles.
You know, you may have just put your finger on the trigger there. All right. Thank you very much, Kristen. Thanks for the call. All right. 7705633. Hey, for some reason, I had just not been in that neighborhood there for a while.
And let us move along here.
7705633.
You know what that means?
Lucretia.
We haven't talked to you for a few days.
How are you doing this morning, Lucretia?
I'm doing all pretty good.
Just like Tom, can't believe all the lies we're fed.
But the other day you had James Thorpe on there
and he was talking about the 600 million people
that were damaged or killed by the vaccine.
Yes.
But Catherine Huffman fits,
but they're not just killing us through the vaccine
or pharmaceutical, which I also sent you an article.
It's now the one number one cause of death.
They cue the statistics by only counting people
that died from the pharmaceuticals in the hospital.
They don't look at people at home.
They don't look at, you know, all these other things.
Even, you know, the drug interactions,
it's the number one, and the antidepressants,
which they often put people on,
this is the number one cause of falling,
especially for old people, but also just really toxic stuff.
It only helps like less than 10% of people even.
Yeah, you know, I would, you know, Lucretia, write this down on your calendar, okay?
I'm actually, I might agree with you a bit on your evaluation of the antidepressants and some of the
side effects about that.
I would be willing to bet if we're still around in 20 years and we're able to talk about it,
we will look at current depression and antidepressant medications, everything which is advertised
on here.
Go ahead and ask your doctor about We Not Crazy or go to wenotcrazy.com.
I have a feeling that we're,
we're going to find out that we've been sold a real bill of goods when it comes to depression medication.
One of the things, if I may just say this, you had, you know,
talked about the, um, the seed oil and as OG, they're not too toxic.
Even if they're like cold press without sunlight, sunlight exposure,
they're halfway rancid, 90 to 80.
But when they're...
Well, you're right.
You're absolutely right.
If the oils are very reactive,
they'll absorb and react with oxygen very quickly,
which is why they have to be processed
in order to keep that from happening.
Can you put plastic in your car and get it to run?
I don't think so.
Okay, plastic is basically hydrogenated oil.
From the same stuff you put in your car, but it's hydrogenated, it turns into a
plastic, okay? We need oil. We have to have healthy fats. We need 10 pounds of
butter and things like that every two months to keep your
liver healthy. Well, let's hope then that RFK Jr. will then make butter great again.
Would that be okay?
Well, let me just say they're also using acetone
and we consume the highest amount of soybean oil
and it's absolutely tied.
We have the highest rate of obesity.
So it's absolutely, and what happens
when you take these plastics
and your cells can't produce energy. They can't produce it's plastic
Thank you very much. Lucretia. I appreciate that and like I said, there's actually some mainstream
Some mainstream reportage these days they're going in that direction
So what people thought you were crazy about may not be quite so crazy write that down on the calendar today. Okay?
Yeah, well now it gets worse
Okay, well save that on the calendar today, okay? Yeah, well, nah, it gets worse. Okay, well, save that for Conspiracy Theory Thursday, okay? Why'd you do that? All right. 770-5633. It's Open Phones here on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. You got a
Pebble. Hi, good morning, Line 1. Who's this? Welcome. This is Minor Dave. Hello,
Dave. What's on your shoe today? What's the pebble? I'll answer your question if you answer mine.
So on Trump, I'll give him an A plus on the border enforcement, on the deportation.
I think that that is probably his most successful policy changes so far in the 100 days. Yeah, and on the economy
People ain't gonna like it, but the the milk cows going away
So I think that what he's doing against China
Isolating them. There's a great thing. It's make America great and make China a capitalist, not communist.
Well, I do believe that China is probably in a weaker position than generally thought.
We'll find out though.
Yeah. And then on making English the official language of the United States. What Crazy Jean was talking
about was American English because it is different than the King of England's
English. All right, very good. Thank you very much.
770-5633, it's open phones. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Good morning, this is Sandy. Sandy, what's
going on in your world today, huh? Pebble in your shoe Tuesday.
Well, pebble in my shoe.
I have a comment about that Highway 62 corridor a couple of calls ago.
Yeah, yeah.
Do you know what was going on there?
Was that actually an official widening of...
I wasn't crazy.
They did widen the sidewalk tremendously, didn't they?
They did widen the sidewalk tremendously, didn't they? They did. You would think the city of Medford and the county of Jackson County would have learned
something from the fiasco on Main Street.
Yeah, you would have thought so.
Thinking away a line.
You would have thought that, like I said, that the city would have paid attention and learned something by that instead of wasting
more money more time.
Now this was a state highway, Highway 62, so I'm not even sure the city necessarily
had anything to do with this, but it just seemed like all of a sudden a tripling of
the sidewalk and a reduction of travel.
This is a main road of commerce, and they're trying to send a weird message if this is what's coming
out of the state of Oregon Department of Transportation, huh?
Yes, and I do a lot of road work. I manage heavy highway projects.
Yes.
And there's, because it's within the city limits of Medford, there's going to be city
funds involved, there's going to be county funds involved, and there's going to be
state funds involved.
So it's not just an ODOT corridor because of all those other stakeholders that are involved
in it.
And so, like I said, City of Medford...
So there have to be some city fingertips or fingerprints on this then,
is what you're telling me. Correct.
All right. Thank you for letting me know. All right. And this is one of the challenges when
we have these intrusions that come after us. There are so many, it's almost difficult for any one person
to keep a track of it.
It's like a Russian doll and set another Russian doll and set another Russian doll.
But what is happening on Highway 62?
I don't think this is good, do you?

will pay any attention to the thoughts of this one woman. This business, though, of taking selfies with the Pope's body was, at the very least, cringe-worthy.
Catholic traditions have long allowed the faithful to view the Pope one last time, but
clearly the Church never foresaw selfies.
There was no such spectacle when Elizabeth II died or when other heads of states are laid

Jeff Mucelma writes, Bill, sidewalks being doubled or tripled over on Highway 62, that's
staggering width.
That's stagger width.
We're moving into the new norm.
And somehow this project just kind of happened and I didn't notice it.
I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't notice it.
What happened on Highway 62?
We give a thanks to Mr. X, our crack researcher who did a little bit of digging.
And he brought it up.
Oh, look at this.
MedfordOregon.gov.
And it's a planning project from 2022. Oh, look at this. MedfordOregon.gov.
And it's a planning project from 2022.
So three years ago.
And it's the plan from 2023. Let's see, 2023, 2022.
Alright.
Multimodal improvements.
Today, bike lanes and sidewalks are provided along both sides of Oregon 62 through most
of the study areas.
However, the existing facilities in combination with the level of traffic volume, number of
travel lanes and posted speed limits create a stressful environment for people walking
and biking.
This stressful environment will only worsen as traffic volumes grow
and lanes are added at intersections.
A continuous shared use path has been identified along the north side of
Oregon 62
and the existing bike lane
on the south side is continuously buffered. Enhanced crossing treatments
and signage would also be provided at major intersections and pedestrian scale
lighting should be added to the routes. This is project I-93 and I-9 is what is showing up here. Mr. X, thank you very much. How did we miss this?
I would be curious what kind of public input was received on this one. Was it another one of these,
hey, we'll send out a few emails and put it online at this point? Did people ask for all of a sudden it to take 10 minutes to go from
Interstate 5 to Highway 99 past the mall? Is that what we asked for?
If it were up to me right now I would be taking a jackhammer to that there was
nothing wrong with the sidewalk that was there so it was causing stress. Oh so you
know you actually went out there and you're surveyed
it. Oh, and you're looking at people that are pushing their baby carriage on the sidewalk,
which is perfectly wide enough. And you were experiencing stress or was it stress from the
gang greens that are upset that maybe traffic was flowing too easily there?
It's a serious question. Let me go to Ron. Hello, Ron. How are you doing?
Welcome to the show. Good morning.
Yeah, a couple of issues. First off, a quickie on your widening of sidewalks and so forth.
I think that it's setting up for a rickshaw alternative.
Ah, that was the favorite, Donnie, comment to the city of Jacksonville. All right, yes,
we hire timber workers and have them tow
people around on rickshaws. Okay. Well, the good thing about that is that now they're going to put up the green and yellow and red boxes, you know, for people to stop in and do their number
one and number two, because it could take them longer to get there. And so anyway, second subject.
And so anyway, second subject. It seems like we're having a problem with the streets being, or the state highways being
funded but not anything happening.
Why not have a fund wherein if a project is to be put forward, there's a schedule that's
provided by the parties who's going to do the work and the money is put in there and
it's divvied out over a period of time and if they don't meet the schedule they don't get
the money for the next section of their schedule. And then so then we start
taking money away from the guy's monthly salary or whatever he's getting to make
up the difference. Thank you for confusing me greatly Bill. I'm sorry not
me confusing you I mean Ron. I'm Bill, not confusing you, I mean, Ron.
I'm Bill.
Now I'm really confused.
Thanks for the call.
Let me go to Bill Erdl.
Hello, Bill.
How are you doing?
Hey, good morning, Bill.
Out here in Williams, Oregon, listening to your show.
Thank you.
I have a couple of things to comment about.
One on your perspective of President Trump, I think you're right on.
As to the economy, I'm kind of a hobby investor, and so I know a little bit about how the market's
moving.
One of the things that happened right after Trump was elected, the stock market was really
overbought. So there was a lot of pent up desire to sell stocks at the right time.
And when Trump announced the tariffs, that kind of triggered everything.
Once that happens, then you get short sellers involved and they drive the price of those
stocks down even more.
But I think we've hit the bottom.
It looks like it's leveled out.
A lot of stocks I look at, I look at the price earning ratio
and we're getting back to the era of reasonable PE ratios.
Yeah, I mean, some of those high tech places
were going what?
PE's of 40 or 50 in some cases. Just amazing. You know you give them $50
they'll give you $1. It's like okay it's not a good deal. I'm a fan of
Elon Musk and his car company but it was a way over bought. It was a way overbought. It was like maybe $100 a share company on a PE basis.
So we smooth things out and that's gonna be better
for all of us in the long-term.
Yeah, I hope you're right about that Bill,
because we can't afford to be running insane deficits
and completely de-industrialize
and continue to flood the world.
In other words, there has to be almost a shared burden about getting global liquidity.
It's not just us.
Absolutely.
Because as it is right now, it's only up to the American taxpayer and Congress to provide it via the Federal Reserve.
It's just not going to work forever. You just can't do it that way any longer. And you know, Bill, a Ford 150, a brand new Ford 150,
it would seem it would sell for the same price in Medford,
Oregon as it would in Korea.
But that's not how it works with the reverse tariff leverages.
So this will help smooth a lot of that idiot pricing out in the long run.
So I'm pretty comfortable with where we are.
Take a breath and just let it ride, right? That kind of thing.
All right. Hey Bill, appreciate the call. Thanks for that. 7705633. We're talking about Trump's
first 100 days. We're talking about Highway 62 and the tripling of the sidewalk
apparently because of the stress of
Bicycle riders and the stress of pedestrians there, which I had never detected until now
Apparently over at the Oregon Department of Transportation. They have a psychiatrist on staff measuring the stress
Let us go to line 3. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Welcome.
Shurm here if you're with me, Bill. Shurm, you're there. Good morning. Hey, good morning. The traffic in Medford is a nightmare anymore. And I was born in Medford and grew up there. In
fact, dad built a Roxanne Market over by the Grange Hall. Yeah, but it appears to be becoming
more of a nightmare of self-inflicted green gunshot wounds, is
what it's looking like to me.
I have driven all over Europe, 30 different countries I've driven in, because I lived
in Europe three and a half years when I was in ASA and worked for NSA, SPD, NSA in Europe.
So I've been around.
In fact, I took students to Europe for a month back in 1987.
So in any case, I'm not just a local. But Medford, I hate to go
down there. I live in the Stamens Valley and I go there when I have to. But you know, we're looking
at 250,000 or so people around the Medford area now, Bill. It's packed. Yeah, well, if you, you
know, taking your numbers there, you're right, as far as countywide, wouldn't you think you would not necessarily narrow the main, the main
state highway, Highway 62? Doesn't that seem like an odd place to get your
traffic calming and pedestrian widening job done? Doesn't that strike you as odd?
Well, they're looking at bike lanes, etc. Look at the area over by the courthouse. Every time I go over in that
area and go to meetings for the county commissioners, by the way that's Wednesday
morning, 930. People ought to be there once in a while, get involved. But in any
case... The only people I know that can do it are retired, though.
Well they can take time off work.
Change of schedule.
Oh yeah, you know what would happen if we all tell our boss, yeah boss, I'm going downtown
to go to the county commission meeting.
They say do it on your own time, bozo.
Come on.
Yeah.
Anyway, we need to be out there.
It's like when I was teaching, Bill, I took people places out of the classroom. Heck, I had students that worked there from the Seattleers and the Quamans.
Okay, I get it. Give me your point, though. Well, my point is get involved.
All right. Thank you very much, Sherm. Yeah, go ahead. I'm going to take time off. Yeah,
if you're working in some mill. I'm sorry, boss, I need to get involved with the county commission. I'm going to take a couple of hours off. Try that. All right, hi, good morning.
Who's this? Welcome. It's Logan, Bill. I feel like there's going to be an echo
though because what Sherm said I was just going to say. Okay, echo. Get involved.
Great, go ahead. For ten years, for ten years, you know, I've been listener
longer than that. I've been listening to your show and you know there know, there's a lot of complainants for the last 10 years,
but I don't see people get involved. And when people do get involved, they just, you know,
get squished down immediately. You know, we have a school, we got to vote people in common,
with common sense into these positions. So we don't have things like this happen. There's
a school board election coming up. We need to cover those bases too.
It's just people with common sense and our values need to run, and we need to elect them,
and we need to support those people with common sense versus the puppets that are being brought
in last minute for all these elections that we end up voting for.
If they're endorsed by somebody who's on the city council, follow the endorsements.
If somebody's endorsed by the same people
who we have in there now, don't vote for them.
All right.
Thanks for the call, Logan.
770-5633, if you are on hold, I will get to you
because I'd like to hear your pebble in your shoe too.
770-5633, of course, some people would say,
you're complaining, okay, we'll get involved. OK, you have to do that.
No, we all have to pick and choose our particular things.

At Lithia Body and Paint, we've been getting Southern Oregon drivers back on the road since
1946.
Service, speed, accuracy.
That's Lithia Body and Paint on Bullock Road in Medford.
News Talk 1063 KMED.
This is the Bill Meyers Show.
We're grading Trump on the first hundred days, also trying to drill down into what's going
on with this Highway 62 deal.
And people are telling me it only happened in the last two to three weeks.
Fascinating. Alright. Let me go to...let's see...Jerry. Hello Jerry, you're on the road. Go ahead.
Good morning. Yeah, I was just wondering if this was a use it or lose it type of a budget deal.
You know, with all these funds being cut, we better use this money while we got it, even if looked like it had been.
Let me go to Cliff. Hello, Cliff on the X in that intersection. Go ahead.
Hey, Martin Bell.
Morning.
Back in May of 2024 on the ODOT website for Region 3, there was an announcement that the project there at the Big X will replace asphalt, update ADA ramps, improve the bicycle and pedestrian connections,
leading through the Big X intersection, and it's supposed to be completed later this year. Well, it looks like they're in the process of improving those intersections so much that
it takes you 10 minutes to go maybe about an eighth of a mile to Highway 99, at least
during peak time.
Well, that's why I avoid the area altogether.
All right.
Hey, Cliff, appreciate that.
Mr. X is here.
Ed, thank you very much for using your investigative talents to find a little issue there with this multimodal plan from a couple of years ago, two, three years ago.
Well, you know, there's a combination of comments that you've had, Bill, but it's important that we start doing what they do. And every word is important.
So can we as a region, as the people who live here, transport ourselves daily, do all the
things, conduct every aspect of life, consider what they did an improvement?
I don't think there is any way to look at what's happening on 62 if it plays out the
way it appears to.
I don't think there's any way to look at that as an enhancement, except for, except for
maybe people who wanted a sidewalk that's about 35 feet wide.
Okay?
Well, that's the thing.
So they call it an improvement. They take our tax base,
our money and force us to live a certain way.
And now you go back to one of your other callers, young lady,
you mentioned stakeholders and all the things. Well, now that, that's true.
That's what this was done with. It was done through a consensus process, but it was also done through LCDC, the land use people in the state trying
to impose upon us the entire spectrum of sustainable development. Now, your lady who comes on,
Diane, she talks about all of the different things.
She educates people.
All of these things, we have to start taking this education and start fighting back in
a way that exposes this consensus process and literally shut it down because what we
have is a nightmare being forced upon us.
And this idea, and it goes back to what we talk about for years now.
Okay.
We have to change this agency of the state status for the county, cause it
wasn't the county that did this.
It wasn't the, it was a city council accepting grant stream
revenue that imposed upon us the will of the idea of the covenants of sustainable
development that the state has adopted.
And what they're doing is they're putting forced changes upon our region
that we ultimately will keep us in a, I say just a negative situation
for the balance of our history here.
And we have to start taking that energy and like your other caller said, we have to get
involved.
People have to get involved, but we have to start outing this, fighting it
on every level, and start getting everybody to out this system and destroy
it, because ultimately it will destroy us. Ed, thank you for the call. I think you, I
couldn't really add anything to this, but you know, here's one of our challenges, I think, Ed, is there are so many intrusions coming
in so many different areas from so, you know, here it is. I didn't know, I tried to pay attention to
this kind of stuff. I didn't know about this project until all of a sudden, where did the
sidewalk come from? You know? Well okay, now let's look at the reality
of what you just said, Bill.
According to the laws of the state of Oregon,
everything you just described
describes an illegal move by the state
because the public is supposed to be involved in this.
Public input is mandatory.
Now, the reality to this is they want to tell you
that the public input was done through the stakeholder process. In other words,
the spandex mafia and you have those the 12 year olds that are on the
Planning Commission that ride their bicycle to work every day and so those
type of people are perfectly fine with this kind of plan.
They supply, in other words, they supply the public input or they manufacture the public
input.
That's what we're talking about.
Well, they manufacture a false history of public input.
And this is the concept.
It's a very simple concept if you reach out and take hold of it.
If they manufacture the public history of it if they manufacture the
public history of it and they show that there was approval of it through public
input based upon stakeholder process that's different than public input
that's required as to how we want or need to live and the reality is what
they're doing is they're just destroying the viability of this town as it grows. All of these things. The other day,
a week ago or so there was a presentation down with the library
that the planners of Medford had put on,
and it was about how they want to do their corridors.
Now the idea of a corridor is what? Define it.
Well, a corridor, of course, is essentially a chute to put you
through.
Well, it's a concept of a chute based upon their belief in
sustainable development. In other words, you're going to
walk. So the older everybody gets, the
less prone to walking through downtown Medford they're going to be. Now, Medford,
in general, there's a large older segment of the population that has settled here.
Well, I was talking about that with Nick Card last week and I said, you know, this
whole push on this, it sounds great. I said, I guess if you're in, you know, in
level lands with no mountains, no
hills, and everybody is living in the downtown core, but that's not the way it works around here.
No, it just isn't. It simply is not. But yet we're being influenced by a bunch of young people
that come out of the university system that come up with these plans.
that come out of the university system that come up with these plans. Thank you, Ed. Certainly got your finger on that. Appreciate it. It's 845. Hey, almost
running out of time. We will have some, we're going to get a palate cleanser here in just
a moment too, that's for sure. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Welcome. Hello? Going what? Hi,
who's this? Hi, this is Rich. Yeah, Rich, go ahead. So, hey, Bill, you know, we're talking like I until I started listening to you
and this, I was so uninformed and just illiterate to the different things
that are going on with, you know, I what's there's a bill going through
about unemployment for people who are striking.
Yes, indeed.
To quote him from the Bad News Bears movie, who's the booger-eating spastic moron that
thought of something like that?
Democrats.
What?
Democrats, dude.
Yeah, Democrats, because it will help their friends get, you know, screw a business over,
I think, is what's going on.
Right.
So do we get on the horn that Jeff Goldin and our local people and say, really? Yeah, that's what you do. Now, whether
he'll listen to you or not, because remember Jeff was put in power by
many of those same kind of people that would like to be able to get
unemployment when they go on strike and argue with their boss. Okay. Yeah. You know, it's all that. Can I do
this or not? Yeah. It's a sad situation, McGee. Yep, indeed it is. All we can do
is bring it up though. Thank you, Rich. Take that knowledge and do something with
it, I hope. It is 846. All right. 7705633. we're gonna have a palate cleanser right now, Diner 62, Real American Quiz.

Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport.
The thrill of victory.
Oh, the thrill of victory.
And the agony of defeat.
Oh, you can see him spinning.
Can't you?
Yes.
The human drama of athletic competition.
This is ABC's Wide World of Sports. And it was today in 1961 that the ABC Wide World of Sports debuted.
Every Saturday we play.
It's like my cartoons would get over and then the Wide World of Sports comes on and then
Dad's there and I watch it together.
And you'd always see the skier. That's what we're
talking about this morning. Let me go to Jack. Hello Jack, how you doing this
morning? Good Bill, you? I'm doing fine. Jack, we're talking about the skier that was
part of the agony of defeat and he was used for years and years on the, you know, the skier that ended up doing the tumble and
did all sorts of stuff. Who was this? Who was the skier? Was it A? In fact, all these
names are legitimate skiers, okay? And they're all Eastern European. Was it A, Toralf Engen?
Was it B, Hans-George Ossenbach? Was it C,. Ernst Vittori was it D. Vinko Bogataj
was it E. Espen Bredesen who was the agony of defeat on ABC's wide world of sports what do you say
let's go with A. Carl you're going with uh Torolf Engen, right? Yeah. I'm sorry. Wasn't him. Wasn't him, Jack. But let me
go to Calvin. Hello, Calvin. How are you doing this morning? I'm kind of embarrassed right now.
Why's that? I had a cousin that was in that competition. Are you serious? Oh, okay. All right,
here we go. Who was the agony of defeat? The skier who ended up going head overhead, broke through the fence and everything. Oh, it's just a mess. I thought he was dead. It's not true, though. He survived it, actually.
Was it Hans-George Ossenbach, Ernst Vettori, Vinko Bogataj, or was it Espen Bredesen? What do you say?
I'll say Bogataj.
You'll say Bogataj. You said you had a
relative in that competition? Yeah I did. You must have got it genetically. Good
for you. Yeah it indeed was Vinko Bogotács and you know a film crew from
Wild World of Sports was recording that event in which Bogota crashed and the show featured that
opening narration of course and
He actually had a broken leg. I guess he had a no broken ankle
It's what he had in a mild concussion that he got from it and then he ended up going home
To Austria and he had his regular life and it was a really interesting story because he painted pictures and he worked at a factory for a while.
He didn't realize how famous he had become.
And for years, because they ran that ski clip for years, you remember that, Calvin?
Oh yeah.
Every week, right?
And it became a catchphrase.
It transformed this poor ski jumper into an American icon.
And so he retired and the
funny thing is that he came out they were celebrating the 20th year of ABC
Wide World of Sports in 1981 and so he was invited to attend. He didn't
understand why he was being invited to attend. You know what is this all about?
It's like he didn't know and he got the biggest standing ovation of everyone
there at the 20th anniversary
because everybody knew him because it's like man you man it was just Muhammad
Ali went up to Vinco Bogotács and wanted his autograph because he wanted hey I
want to this agony of defeat right you know yeah and and by the way in 1990
while he was on his way
for an interview with Wide World of Sports,
he got into another automobile crash.
And his first line to the reporter was,
every time I'm on ABC, I crash.
You know?
He's still alive, has a couple of daughters,
lives in Austria.
And so he never really got all, he
didn't do that well in the ski jumping after that point, but great story.
So we're gonna send you to Diner 62. Hang on.
I just wanted to make sure people knew a little bit of that backstory.
Vinco Bogatage.

Shipments from China to the west coast of the U.S. will plummet next week as the impact

The Reverend David writes to me about County Commission and City Council meetings.
I guess this is responding to what Logan was talking about. Well, get involved. Go
to these meetings. And David says, Bill, when I lived in Paradise, California, our
County Supervisors and City Council meetings were always held in the
evenings when the common people could attend. I've always wondered why our County Commissioners and City Council meetings here can't be held in the evenings when the common people could attend. I've always wondered why our county
commissioners and city council meetings here can't be held in the evenings unless they have something
to hide or just don't want we pesky citizens to foul up their plans. Now, Medford City Council,
from what I understand, David, does meet in the evening. It's early evenings, I think, which is
where that goes and maybe that would be tough for some people. County Commission, I would actually be in favor of the of the county meetings also being in the evening at at one point because,
yeah, I gotta tell you as a as a working schmo, I would have to make a special effort to attend a
county commission meeting and maybe that's something that can be discussed. Maybe there's
something in the in the in the
charter. I don't think there is about when to do it, just that they have to do it. And
Tyler writes me, Bill, about the sidewalk on 62. This has actually been going on for
about three weeks now. I was going to write you about the pebble in my shoe Tuesday. It's
really irritating to see this money being wasted on widening the sidewalk and taking
traffic lanes away.
The only thing I think it has to do with the the homeless panhandle. About to talk
more about this tomorrow. Tyler, thank you very much.
