Starting point is 00:00:00 The Bill Meyer Show podcast is sponsored by Clauser Drilling. They've been leading the way in Southern Oregon well drilling for over 50 years. Find out more about them at clauserdrilling.com. Here's Bill Meyer, Mr. Outdoors standing by. We'll talk with him in just a moment. Brenda is on the line with me right now. Brenda, you had an interesting story or an experience. What Southside McDonald's the other day, what happened
Starting point is 00:00:23 when you went in there and got your sandwich? I went in and got a sandwich and started eating in the parking lot of McDonald's and a security policeman came up and told me that either I would have to go inside and eat or leave the premises. And I said, what? Really? And he said, what, really?
Starting point is 00:00:45 And he said, yes. He said McDonald's has this new thing. And he ended up telling me that that's, and I said, well, then, so then what they want me to do is to leave McDonald's parking lot and go in the other parking lot where all the other stores are and eat there. He said, no, you can't do it there either. He says this whole complex, Winkle complex, all of the stores
Starting point is 00:01:13 have the same rule. Really? No, you cannot sit in your car just to be sitting in your car. Whether you're eating or you're doing something, it doesn't matter. Now that is an interesting new restriction. I'm wondering what could be driving this, if this is trying to get bummed them out of there or just move people along. That's interesting. Well, when I came home and told my daughter about it, she said well the reason is, and she's seen a lot of this happening in that area and
Starting point is 00:01:50 especially around Winko, the drugies. It's the drugs. Oh really? Yeah she said that sometimes in the evening when she drives by that there are all these bicycles lined up, laying down on Winkle property and around the area and then they go into sit in a car and shoot up and she has seen so many of this, so much of this going on in that whole area. Oh it's because of Oregon's progress on illicit drugs. Okay, yeah. Right. All right. Hey, thanks for sharing it. I have not heard this because normally, you know, you're supposed to eat the McDonald's food, you know, like a true American, which is, you know, 75 miles an hour down Interstate 5,
Starting point is 00:02:39 one hand on the wheel and the other hand on the Big Mac. Okay? You're supposed to do it that way. Yes. I did ask the officer. I said, well, what happens if I don't or if someone doesn't leave or enter the premises to eat? And he said, the second time I come around, I have to arrest you for trespassing. Yeah, you'll be trespassed off. Brenda, thanks for sharing that story. That's interesting. That's the first time I've heard of this. First time. Yeah, but it does sound like it is in reaction to the reality of our gentle, well, concrete campers and the, of course, the drug culture which must be embraced as being a part of an Oregonian. Thank you very much. Thank you. You're welcome. All right. Wonderful. Gosh, I think how many times, Greg, that I've, you know, eaten a hamburger in the parking lot of the restaurant I got it from. Is that
Starting point is 00:03:35 something you've heard about too? Just curious, Greg. Greg Roberts. Yeah. No, it is something I had heard about. You know, as soon as she started in giving the details of her story, I knew where it was going. And, you know, they just, that development, and I'm just going to refer to it as Wynko Plaza for lack of a better way to do it, that's been an epicenter for drug activity. The other reason for doing it is to prevent what I refer to them as the tenements on wheels. So yeah, they've taken a far more aggressive stance. But then again, they pretty much had to do it. We do. So they're not going to let you sit in the parking lot really. You'll either go into the stores or else you'll come out of the store or the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:04:29 You will get in that and then you will leave. It's not one of these things where you're going to be sitting around and just hanging out waiting to either sell your drugs or have people come in and take their drugs or all those kind of variations of getting your fix I guess. Yep and you know I was gonna say and you know we shop WinCo so we're in there quite a bit and we've seen you know the vehicles pull up and the obvious drug activity going on they have those landscaped islands within the parking lot there in front of Winynko, and
Starting point is 00:05:05 you'd find needles and all kinds of other stuff in there. Yeah, don't walk barefoot through those areas, that's for sure. Yeah, you absolutely don't step into those landscaped islands that have trees in them and, you know, some dirt and other stuff because they're full of needles. Yeah, don't you find it interesting that House Bill 315, which of course is the bill that puts so many restrictions on the ability of cities to deal with the homeless in the various areas, and Dwayne Younger had offered a bill, state Rep. Dwayne Younger had offered a bill, they pulled a bill to the floor for a vote that would have repealed that and then just done what the Supreme Court said, hey, this is not an Eighth Amendment sort of issue, etc., etc.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Do what you think is necessary to be able to protect your citizens and take care of your cities. And the Democrats blocked that. Interesting. Well, no, it's not interesting. It's predictable. Well, yeah, that's... I was putting interesting in scary air quotes, okay? Yeah. I mean, it's really sad because anybody with a brain can see that their, you know, their interest in quality of life issues in Oregon, they have none. Once again, it is the order of love. The Democrats are altruistic to the wrong people right now.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So we'll set that aside for right now, but that's something, this is the first time I have heard of something like that, and I guess I don't shop at that parking lot, so I've never had that, you know, it's not in my neighborhood. It's closer to yours, but. Well, you know, like I said, being there, there definitely, I noticed a stepped up security presence there. Oh yeah, you remember when you start seeing the lights, the lights there out there, those little pods
Starting point is 00:07:00 that have the lights, the ultraviolet lights. The camera systems show up. Yeah. Then that's your first clue they're going to be taking a more aggressive stance the one honestly I think right now maybe as bad or worse than Winkle Plaza Bear Creek Plaza yeah see a lot there a lot going on there and even when I go in there and I'll get something from my mom or I'm going over to Buy Mart, it's a, you know you have to kind of strategically enter the center from place to place in order to,
Starting point is 00:07:34 listen, you don't want to get hit up and you don't want to, you know, be approached or solicited for what is going on there. Yeah, we know it, we get it. All right, Greg, let's talk about positive thing here now and you're going to be the pallet cleanser with the outdoor report. Okay, outdoor report sponsored by Oregon Truck and Auto Authority on Airway Drive in Medford. And of course, Greg's at rogueweather.com.
Starting point is 00:07:56 We appreciate your reportage there. It's just going to be a perfect, an absolute perfect boat nick weekend. I mean, it couldn't get better. No, I mean everything broke so favorably for them. Again, just beautiful sunny skies, although we do have the low clouds this morning. That will burn off. It's going to turn out to be a beautiful day. Of course, I'm going over for Queensryche tonight, and this will be the first time I've seen them since 2008. I didn't know Queensryche was still performing. It was a great pass at the Rogue Theater.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Yeah, I didn't know Queensryche was still performing. Wow, okay. Yeah, they definitely, they are. You know, there's, I don't know how else to refer to it except there was this nostalgia wave for 80s type hard rock and metal that kicked off I want to say somewhere around 2010, 2012 and it's gotten really big. In fact, you know some of these bands are seeing people showing up in numbers like they haven't seen since, well, the 80s.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Now, Queensryche is not one of those typically, you know, when they're on tour, but by themselves. They've seen big crowds show up at, you know, some of these three-day rock festivals, usually built around a weekend like Memorial Day, and there'll be these huge crowds show up. But now there's this, because I did through Rogue Weather co-promote, or co-sponsor rather, this concert. So I was hearing from Grants Pass Active Club, they were letting me know, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:45 how things were going for ticket sales. QueensRyke set the new pre-day of record for ticket sales. No kidding. No kidding. Wow. More than, you know, I got involved a couple of years ago with Sebastian Bach being here and John Cafferty. Man, you are a hair band guy though, aren't you? Honestly? Yeah, you know, I grew up in that era, got into bands, performing, you know, that style
Starting point is 00:10:15 of music. So I love it. And, you know, knowing that Boatnik was going to have somebody from that genre as their featured concert. You know, when I got approached about helping promote the shows, it was a no-brainer for me. But I was just gonna say, so I've only been involved since two years ago with Sebastian Bach and then last year with Firehouse. So when I'm hearing that Queensryche set a new record for number of tickets sold before day of show, I was like, okay, that's pretty doggone good. But then again, you know, Queensryche, Northwest Band, Seattle,
Starting point is 00:11:03 two monster albums back to back, Operation Mindcrime and then Empire. And that really solidified them. And, you know, both of those albums, songs from those albums still get not just satellite airplay, radio airplay, including here in town, you're going to hear songs from both of those albums still being played today. Yeah, of all the bands that I thought would have done well at Boatnik, I wouldn't have picked Queenswreck, I got to tell you. That's just me and you, between me and you and thousands of other folks here. Alright, well anyway, enjoy the show, all right let's just keep it at that. Believe me I'm going to as well you know being a
Starting point is 00:11:47 co-sponsor I get VIP and meet and greet. Okay all right all right all right quit rubbing it in. All right. Well but I'm telling you I'm going to enjoy it. Like I said I have not seen these guys since 2008 and this will also be my first time seeing them with Todd Latour, their new lead singer. Not new anymore, but the guy who had to replace Jeff Tate. Yeah, all right. Moving along here now, once we get past our, what, 86 or so tomorrow, right? That's going to be the peak of the heat, and then we're going to be cooling down a little bit. You're saying 90s next week, huh?
Starting point is 00:12:24 Yeah, and that's a new development this morning. You know, I've been taking a look ahead and running through data. Just, I was trying to see how much rain we might see moving in after Memorial Day weekend because we were getting a lot of reads in the various forecast models that indicated we could be seeing a pretty good amount of rain moving in next week. And of course, a lot of people with hay, you know, I hear from those people, the hay producers, they wanna know.
Starting point is 00:12:57 So I was taking a look at a lot of different things on the data and then I decided to punch in and watch and see what projected highs look like. We have a projected high on Monday the 2nd of June of 94 degrees here in Medford, but we didn't have anything in the 90s before that until this morning and now Medford is projected for a high on Wednesday of 93. Okay so we're into the low 90s here is that going to be just a little temporary blip and then back to a little more seasonal? Well yeah the temperature does come back down but then
Starting point is 00:13:37 it's coming back up again when we hit that first full week in June so you know yeah we look like we're gonna be getting into the low 90s next Wednesday, drop down a little bit, and then the following week, second, third, fourth of June, looks like we're gonna be back up around 90, if not into the low 90s, maybe even mid-90s again. But that rain I was talking about, that has turned from
Starting point is 00:14:08 more of a widespread looking like showers to even rain potential to much more of our typical summer afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms with the best chance of activity over in near mountains and east of the Cascades. Alright, so where would you, if you were not going to see Queensryche, be headed for fishing or having some fun this weekend? Where would you go? Because I don't tend to go out on big holiday weekends, you know, that's just me. I go on vacation usually the week after a big holiday weekend, which I will, you know. And we've had rapid snow melt-off up there in the mountains, so a lot of the recreation areas that I
Starting point is 00:14:51 kind of thought, well maybe snow is going to be an issue that would limit camping in places like Diamond Lake, Lake of the Woods, you know, that type of thing. Not going to be an issue at all now. And the other great part is the trout fishing has really turned on and ODF&W is out there stocking everything like crazy and they really stock a lot of waters. They don't typically hit on a weekly basis ahead of Memorial Day weekend. One thing they definitely started stocking this week and will continue to do it until the week of Labor Day weekend is the Upper Rogue above Prospect and they're stocking the Upper Rogue River, they're stocking Union Creek, they're stocking pretty much all
Starting point is 00:15:44 the creeks up there because well there's plenty of water running through them right now and the campgrounds are going to have good access to them so pretty much if you want to go camping you've got a great weekend to do it and fishing especially the trout fishing in the lakes is going to be really good, but with all those new fish that have arrived from the hatchery, there's going to be plenty of hungry trout in just about every body of water I can think of in Jackson and Josephine counties where there is trout.
Starting point is 00:16:19 All right, very good. Greg Roberts once again, RogueWeather.com. Greg, I appreciate it. Enjoy the show and tell us all about it next Friday as we get into another great weekend, okay? Thanks again. I believe I will. Oh, and one other thing did want to hit. Oregon Department of Forestry announced yesterday that fire season will begin on June 1st at 1201 a.m. This is not because of anything in particular except that when Dave Larson was our district forester a few years back, he just decided, look, you know, for a lot of the industrial people, especially logging, they like it when they know for a certainty when fire season will start.
Starting point is 00:17:05 It helps them plan for a lot of things. And so he just decided, look, if it hasn't begun before, June 1st is going to be the start of fire season automatically. We're in that situation this year, so it will begin automatically on June 1st. Low fire danger, IFPL 1, but the biggest impact is that is the end of backyard burning, burn barrels and also debris burns will be illegal come Sunday June 1st. All right, duly noted. Thanks again. We'll catch you next Friday from Rogue Weather, okay? Thank you, Greg. Greg Roberts at Rogue Weather.
Starting point is 00:17:45 And of course, Outdoor Report sponsored by Oregon Truck and Auto Authority on Airway Drive in Medford. 730. As the Montana roofing crews travel around southern Oregon, they like to keep things interesting. You know, we've been doing so many roofs around the valley. There's not many areas where we don't see our past work. Ooh, like that one.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Yep, the whole metal package. R roof siding, flashing gutters. Tile job? Oh yeah, that's a beauty. Luxury home on the hill, with tile and copper accents. Shake? That traditional barn looks great with that fading shake roof. That one was tricky. I'm up like a three zip.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Oh wait, I didn't know this was a competition. Composite! Jinks, maybe we should just Rochambeau for that one. Rochambeau? I'm driving! Tide goes to the driver! Okay, well, I'll give you that one. Metal, you're getting destroyed!
Starting point is 00:18:34 Four to one! Oh, this isn't fair! I gotta keep my eyes on the road and I can't look around and see what else is going on with the- While the Fontana Roofing Crew has fun on the way, they're all business when they arrive at your job site! Camping season is here and we have hundreds of new and used RVs ready to roll at pre-tariff prices. The row gardener not a big fan of spraying for weeds, maybe with one exception. If you're dealing with a bunch of difficult to control weeds like Bermuda grass, knock those down with glyphosate I should say like roundup and you could do that spraying but don't neglect the fact that now you have at least three and possibly even four seasons of weed seeds in
Starting point is 00:19:42 that ground wanting to come up. The Rogue Gardener, Saturdays 10 to noon, Sunday morning Encore at nine, sponsored by Grange Co-op on KMED. This is News Talk 1063, KMED, and you're waking up with the Bill Meyers show. 733, I'll tell ya, the insurance world is continuing, it's continuing to be rocket and roll in.
Starting point is 00:20:05 And I was talking with Steve Hancy a few days ago because I ended up switching my homeowner's insurance with him because I got a renewal and the renewal was crazy. Went crazy. It's like one year, the rate was great. Then it went up, and it was a big, big, big, big up going from like 1200 a year to like 1900. That was pretty big. I said, Steve, we've got to do some200 a year to like $1,900. That was pretty big.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I said, Steve, we've got to do some work. And so he did. He did. And he did say that there are still some challenges, especially if you're like me living on that edge of, I know the fire map is supposed to be repealed. It's still kind of bottled up in committee. It's being held hostage because naturally the Democrats want more of your money. So it's what it always is about. We'll talk about that. I don't want to get off into the weeds
Starting point is 00:20:52 on that. But the thing is though you need a friend battling for you in finding the best insurance rate and Steve has been my choice. It's worked out really well here. Steve Yancy at Skypark Insurance. His number is 2615444. Works with many different companies, which is helpful to try to shop around and dance around until we can find someone that might be willing to maybe work with your hard to insure rural property or maybe rental, whatever it is, whatever kind of line you're looking for, talk with him. 2615444. Get a quote and Steve will even answer your phone this morning, I'm sure on top of that if you are turning 65 getting ready to head into Medicare oh my goodness there are a lot of questions and it could be pretty complex call
Starting point is 00:21:33 Lynn Barton at Sky Park to her number 499-0958 they also email me and I'll give you their numbers too but good people and a great company get a quote today at Sky Park. At Sky Park, we make insurance easy. Really interesting article in today's RV Times. Well, I guess it's online, it's online. I'm a subscriber, I get this. And Buffy Pawlik wrote about this former barber, Bronson Pickett, and he's from Canyonville, and he's one of the victims in the Asante case. The Asante case that has been, it's going on a couple of years now, a couple of years. And so I called him up and we're going to talk with him about his story here and what
Starting point is 00:22:15 it's been like. He ended up blowing his kidneys out after what happened in the hospital after the alleged, you always have to say alleged drug diversion case. I was talking about that a little bit earlier this morning and we'll get more of his story. after the alleged drug diversion case. I was talking about that a little bit earlier this morning. And we'll get more of his story. Great story in RV Times, and we'll get to kind of that personal side of it coming up.
