We're a quarter after eight.
And I, you know, after that serious conversation there with Bronson, I have to, you know, Bronson, love you.
We wish you the best there with his situation dealing with the asante and the kidney thing.
But we need a dad joke right now, too.
We're going to get a dad joke.
We also have some movie talk here with a cherry coming up in just a moment.
But the dad joke of the day sponsored by two dogs fabricating on Brian
Way off Sage Road in Medford.
And if you have a better dad joke than the one I'm going to tell right now,
go to two dogs, have dot com and email to it.
So, you know, it just to let them know.
OK, by the way, two dogs can do any hitch or tongue repair for this camping season.
This is a big thing.
You got some cracks and breaks.
You want to get that knitted back together.
They will help you out.
And they have a brand new line of heavy duty horizon trailers are in stock to at two dogs.
Fab two dogs.
Fab. OK, Russ and Donna, we award a dad joke of the day and
as Bill, why do scuba divers fall backwards out of a boat? Because if they
fell forward, they'd still be in the boat. Now see, that's a dad joke. I don't know
if Cherry Cherry has a dad joke or not. How you doing, Cherry? Welcome back.
Oh, thanks, Bill. Well, I just saw about three really incredible movies.
Actually, the third one wasn't so good.
Saints and Sin.
All right. Well, you are our resident critic.
So give us because, you know, a lot of people, if they're not camping,
a lot of times they're hanging out in either going to movies or watching movies
and doing things like that, hanging around around the family.
What do you say?
Well, first of all, did you get that voluminous email I sent about movies? Yes, I did and
then I got sick and I didn't post it. So I will be posting that shortly, okay?
Good, good, good. Well, anyway, Saints and Sinners was kind of long. It was about the
Irish uprising in the 70s in Ireland. Oh, was it during about the troubles, what they call the trouble time?
Yeah.
Okay.
What did you think about it overall?
I wasn't crazy about it.
It just was, it was too long.
It had, it was, I don't know, it was violence for violence sake.
It just seemed that way. And there were some characters I detested in there.
Was there, you know, one of the challenges
of many movies today, Jerry, is it just me,
that there are some movies that there is no one to root for?
Is that kind of where you're getting at?
That is exactly right.
And two of those characters were in Game of Thrones,
which I just am so, I'm wild about game. I've
watched that over and over and over again. And even the characters were just, I don't know.
But the one movie, the two movies that I did love was I just saw Retribution with Liam Neeson.
Retribution and man, that was a heart stopper from beginning to end.
Now, Retribution, Liam has tended, well, I always think about the Taken series.
Is it that kind of a feel or something different?
No, it's about two kids and a wife and his work.
And he works too hard.
He makes a lot of money. And his wife is, you know,
she's much younger than himself. And she's kind of not bored, but she's kind of fed up
with all he does his work. And he needs to take the kids to school this one day, you
know, the one day that, you know, that he, I mean, she has to do something, and he's
got to do it.
And he's begrudging, okay, and the kids are fighting and bickering and they're
brats and, you know, it's kind of fun. And he takes them in, you know, the car and
the boy says, I don't want to get in the car. And he goes, get in the car, you know.
So, they, he begrudgingly is off to school with these kids and that's all I'm going to talk about.
But mayhem ensues, in other words, right?
And it was really good. It was not what I expected. The ending was great.
Okay, so we'll give that four cherries. What is the other one you wanted to mention here, briefly?
The other one was with Halle Berry she's always in horror movies.
She's always crazy you know that woman is crazy I have no doubt that she
I mean she may look good but she is just yeah bat guano you know.
Unwell she's a little disturbed I believe.
Yeah well all you got to do is look at that last, what award show was she at recently
with the transparent one?
And you know, there's nothing, now you're a woman here.
You're a woman, Sherry, last time we checked, I understand you're a woman, right?
It's sad when Hollywood actresses get to that point where, alright, I'm 60, and so I have to wear the transparent dress,
or I have to do the pose, or I have to do this,
or I'm going to do the lesbian love scenes or anything
in order to try to regain some kind of legitimacy
or relevancy, I guess.
It's just kind of sad, isn't it?
It is, but this one movie, I was on pins and needles and it was a really good movie called
Never Let Go.
Okay, Never Let Go.
You liked it for a thriller, huh?
It was really thrilling because I couldn't tell what was real or not real. And it was about two kids, you know, and she's the mom of these two
children and how she takes care of them, how she has protected them in this one particular house,
which she acquired from her parents and, you know, their parents and all that.
All right. So in spite of all this though,
in spite of the fact that it's crazy Holly, you liked it.
I really did.
It was a very, it had a really good ending.
And it was, again, it was mysterious,
but not so mysterious that you couldn't follow.
All right, that's good to know. Hey, I wanted to let you know of...
Have you watched the Continuum series?
Continuum? No!
Yeah, Continuum.
Linda and I got into that a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty intense.
And so we can only take a little bit of it at a time.
I forget if it's on Prime or if it's on Netflix, right? But what we've done, Continuum is, it's in the
future, we're in that the corporations have taken over, they are the
government, etc. And then rebels blow up stuff and of course they're going to be
executed and at the time they're going to be executed. Instead, they have their
instant little time machine and they blast back to like 2012 or something or you know 2012
and then they have the the criminals the terrorists if you want to call it are back in
in current day America including one cop that got accidentally blasted back with them. And it's pretty interesting.
I'm finding it very interesting so far.
Okay, so.
That's in continuum.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A little time travel, a little sci-fi.
I thought that's fun so far, okay?
That's great.
All right, so I'll give you a suggestion.
Tell me what you think, okay?
I will, I'll try it, yeah.
All right, thanks a bunch, Jerry.
You be well.
You too, Bill.
All right, now you say I need to take some salt.
Is that what it is?
Because I was ready to blast my cough out there a little bit.
It's kind of in a little ceramic neti pot
and it's got a hole on the top
and in the bottom you fill it with salt
and you just inhale it.
All right. As long as you're not giving me that pink salt, the pink salt track.
Is there one ad on social media right now? It has gone nuts.
Here's the pink salt trick. And there's the one. It's like, shut up!
You know, hit skip and off you go.
Thanks, Jerry. A22. Kim Commando's digital updates on the way.
And then you know what we're going to do, the Diner 62 real American quiz.
Diner 62, man I got to tell you, they delivered me a salad last week that maybe reconsidered not liking salads.
And it was a chicken fried steak salad or fried chicken salad that they put in there.
It was just delicious, delicious produce and all that, but you don't have to get that.
You can get all sorts of other things too.
And today's Clam Chowder Friday,
we've got avocado available for practically anything,
two pork chops and eggs,
eight ounce New York steak and eggs,
good steak on special right now on the weekend.
So jump on this at 770-5633.
After Kim Commando, we're gonna get you set up here
and we're gonna have some fun.
It's some Benjamin Franklin history today.

diner 62 real american quiz and we have four real americans standing by we have
jack and Peggy and Jeff and David
in that particular order we're gonna see how this works
and let me bring on Jack.
Hello, Jack. How you doing? Good morning, Bill. Doing fine. Good morning, Jack. Hey, Jack. Last
week, I was talking with Dr. Mark Skousen, and he's an interesting economist. Some people didn't like
him going after the Trump tariffs, but I understand that. But he still wrote a really interesting book about his ancestor, founding father, Benjamin
Franklin.
Not only was he an amazing diplomat and statesman, he was quite the inventor.
And I have a number of inventions here.
One of the following, one of the following, Ben Franklin did not invent. And that is the the question I
have for you. Which of these following inventions did he not invent? Okay? So
number one Bifocals. Number two the urinary catheters. You know the ones you
stick up, well whatever. You've had that. You've had that?
Okay, thanks for sharing.
Odometer, voting machine, long arm reaching device, or political cartoons.
One of those six Benjamin Franklin did not invent.
Do you have an idea?
Oh, let's see. Let's say bifocals.
Say bifocals? No, I'm sorry. In fact, today he announced in 1785 that he invented bifocals, so it was today.
Oh, all right.
That's what gave me the idea. I'm sorry. So we know bifocals. That's not it. Let me go to Peggy. Hello, Peggy. How are you doing this morning?
Hello, Bill. I'm doing fine.
Alright, let's see how you're doing on this. We're looking for the invention that Benjamin Franklin did not invent.
Urinary catheter, odometer, voting machine, long arm reaching device, or political cartoons?
Cartoon.
Cartoon. No, he was one of the first ones. He put it in his paper when he was printing it. I'm sorry.
Okay. I know. Like I said, we're trying to find the thing that Ben Franklin did not do. And so next we're talking with Jeff. Hello, Jeff. How are you doing?
Good. Did Ben Franklin not invent urinary catheter, odometer, voting machine, or long arm reaching
device?
One of those.
What do you say?
Let's try the catheter.
You're trying the catheter.
No, he invented that.
Getting shoved up people even to this day.
All right.
Yeah, I know this is, this is fascinating.
I find this question fascinating.
So we'll put a little X next to that and we have David
Hello, David. How are you doing?
I'm laughing. This is this is fun. Thank you. Yeah, I'm glad we needed a laugh right you're heading into the weekend
Oh, alright, so we're down to three inventions one of these
Ben Franklin did not invent.
So was it the voting machine, the odometer rather,
the voting machine or a long arm reaching device?
One of those three.
I'm going to say the long arm reaching device.
No, he invented that too.
He actually had a patent for that.
I appreciate you trying though, David.
Boy, we're getting down to a 50-50 shot here.
Hi, good morning.
Who's this?
Welcome.
This is Jack again, Bill.
Well, Jack, you made it back in.
We'll give you a shot.
You're the 50-50 guy.
You have your choice of two.
Is it the odometer or the voting machine?
Which one did Ben Franklin not invent?
Let's see, let's call it the
odometer. The odometer. He invented the odometer. Oh my gosh we are down to the
end and this was with six choices too. Hi good morning who's this?
Woohoo, it's Peggy. Peggy! Voting machine or voting machine?
I think it was a voting machine.
Yes, it was!
Here's the story.
Actually, Ben invented all those other things that we talked about.
He was really interesting.
But one of the first voting machines ever was actually Thomas Edison.
Thomas Edison, one of his first inventions that he brought forth, was a voting machine
and he brought it to Congress.
He brought it into Congress and said, hey, look at this.
I have this excellent machine.
You can push buttons at your desk and you can vote and we'll tally your votes and you'll
be able to announce what won and what lost very quickly.
And Congress said, there's no way in hell we would want this.
This is like the 1800s, right, that he did this.
And inventor Thomas Edison, he says, because we want to filibuster, we want to argue,
we want to do all this, anything which speeds up the process.
No, we don't want that.
And so they wouldn't bite.
And so one of his early inventions was a failure for that reason.
They didn't want the voting machine in Congress.
So I thought that was pretty...
Must have been in damn Congress.
Yeah, probably was.
Probably was.
All right.
You hang on and you're going to Diner 62.
I'll get your information.
We'll have some fun with that too, for sure.
770-5633.
This is the Bill Maier Show.
The soil around your home is a lot like a sponge.
And way off sage road in Medford visit two dogs fab.com. News talk 1063 KMED
you're waking up with the Bill Meyers show. A couple of other inventions of Ben Franklin
I thought I would mention since we were talking about some of the top ones there was the Franklin
stove of course I wasn't going to use that one in the diner 62 quiz because it would have been too easy. Oh no, he didn't
invent that. But swim fins. Yeah, you know, he was kind of pudgy and stuff like that,
but he loved to swim. And so he was a vigorous swimmer and then he invented the swim fins.
Nobody had ever tried doing that before. That was another one that he ended up using and yep, he was one of the first
to ever come up with American political cartooning. He put it in his
newspaper and that was it. He did do the long arm reaching device and you
know a lot of times you can get those. I think they're like
you know 99 cents over like a Harbor Freight type thing. They're pretty inexpensive when they're made of plastic now.
And the bifocals, which I'm using right now.
And of course, the lightning rod.
It's well known for the lightning rod and the kite and the string and the key.
Thomas Edison.
Now, I grew up in Milan, Ohio.
I've told you this before, which is the birthplace of Thomas Edison.
And we moved there when I was 10 years old and I immersed myself in everything about Thomas
Edison when I was growing up because everything about the area was plugged into this.
The high school, it's Edison High School.
Your high school team is the chargers for electricity and stuff.
I always really enjoyed looking into Thomas Edison's story.
Naturally, they paint him as a hero and he was kind of heroic.
He was also sort of a robber baron type thing too.
He tried to shut down Tesla, but this is capitalism.
We got the robber baron capitalists trying to shut down things and getting into bed and
doing other things in panics of 1879 and everything else.
But he was kind of a trial and error type of inventor in many cases, self-taught.
And I remember one time I'm reading about that a farmer, an area farmer, this is when
he had moved to New Jersey, Menlo Park, New Jersey, an area farmer walked in there and
said, Tom, I got a problem. I got potato bugs all over my crop. And so he's, you know,
Thomas Edison is going out there and he's looking at this field and he
takes a few samples of potato bugs, etc., etc. He says, okay, I'll come up, I'll
find something that can kill the potato bugs so your potatoes are okay. Saves
your potato crop. So he goes back into his laboratory and starts
experimenting and then he finds out that I think it was copper sulfate. Ended up
by killing the potato bugs. Boom! Just like that. So he says alright. So he went
out with like a couple 50 gallon drums of copper sulfate, a chemical, and he
sprayed it all over the potato field.
And every single potato bug dropped dead.
The farmer was thrilled, and, Tom, you are great.
The next day he comes into the laboratory screaming because the copper sulfate had also
killed his potato plants.
So that was sometimes where the trial and error, he didn't Stand around long enough and wait for the error. I just always thought that was a great story
You think about it?
Of course
I'm sure now today Thomas Edison when he had done that that would have been arrested by the DEQ and charged as an
environmental criminal of some sort
It is 837. Let me go to the phones. Hi. Good morning. Who's this? Welcome. This is minor day. Hey Dave
I caught my congressman back in DC Let me go to the phones. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Welcome. This is Minor Dave. Hey Dave, what's going on?
I called my congressman back in DC to get a couple of clarifications on the big bill
they passed. And some things are not in it and that will be put in the supplemental.
Yeah, what did LaMalfa say is going to be put in
the supplemental you think? That's who you called, right? LaMalfa? Yeah. Okay.
His assistant said that it'll be no taxes on Bitcoin, no taxes on Social Security
in the next supplemental. And funding the Bureau of Mines that would then take it away from the Forest Service
or the BLM, having anything to do with mining, or even coal or oil or LNG, it'll take it
totally out of their hands and put it in the Bureau of Mines to manage.
That would be interesting if this ends up happening.
By the way, we're going to have a chance on
Tuesday. On Tuesday, Congressman Pence is back in town.
He's going to drop by the station at 830, and I wanted to dig more into what could be
coming to us, you know, what's in the big beautiful bill and also what is not and
what he might be looking at. The big beautiful bill they couldn't get
everything in it and so the next one the next project they got to work on is
Congress is supplemental to the budget. Okay and that's where you could actually
do some things there are some things you could actually do some things. There are some things
you couldn't do with the social security taxes. You couldn't do it in reconciliation. So all they
could do is put in a deduction, I think is all they could do this time. Right. In the big,
beautiful bill. All right, Dave. Hey, thanks for the update from the Lomoffa side of the border.
Okay. All right. Let me grab another one. Hi, good morning. This is Bill. Who's this? Hello.
Hi, Bill. Hi. Hey Bill. Hey Bill,
you were talking about the Rogue Valley Medical Center again, Roguesante. I just wanted to bring
up that you know a lot of the nurses who were fired years ago for not taking the jab still
haven't been compensated, so we need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers too. Also, the main
point of my call is Sunday at 4 30 you're going to be able to see Ron
Wyden at the Medford Armory and just let him know what an awesome job he's doing.
Sunday, 430, Medford Armory.
Sunday, 430, Armory.
Show up and let him know how you feel.
This is your chance to do it, so I encourage people to be there and give him a piece of
your mind for lack of a better term.
You think that people are in the mood to give minds on Memorial Day weekend kind of town
halls?
What do you think?
I think it's an interesting time to do that to make sure that only your supporters show
up.
Yeah, it was strategically planned that way, but there's a few of us I know so far plan
on going down and I just want to encourage people if they aren't out on the weekend to
try to get down there and let them know how we feel. All right
Thank you very much. Talk to you later

Here's what's going on after angry pushback from voters.
The Grants Pass City Council put massive pay raises for non-union city workers on hold.
Some of the raises were over $40,000 a year and $22,000 top $10,000 each.
Instead, a task force will be put together to do a pay analysis.
One $45,000 raise would have put the city managers pay at nearly $235,000 a year, about
$136,000 more a year than the governor makes.
House Republicans nearly passed the President's spending bill, sending it to the U.S. Senate,
whereas Oregon senators say they'll vote no.
Senator Jeff Merkley asserts it'll run up the debt.
Senator Ron Wyden claims the average person won't feel any economic benefit.
Meanwhile, U.S. Representative Cliff Benz says he sees the
bill as a win for the average American. He says the bill includes income tax cuts and
ending taxes on Social Security benefits and ending tax incentives that elect climate activists

this is a reprieve. It was late Thursday night extending her paws on President
Trump's plan for vast layoffs until a case challenging them is resolved. So
essentially you have a judge telling the executive who is in charge of
the executive branch that they're not in charge of hiring or firing in the executive branch.
It just astounds me.
And so that has been extended.
And then we have a federal judge in California blocks the Trump administration
from revoking student visas.
And this is the part of Don's efforts to detain and deport international students.
And it stops the federal government from
arresting those students or revoking their visas, once again, while the case plays out in court.
There's probably no more important Supreme Court decision that needs to be made, though,
than to have the Supreme Court come up with some guidance here on federal courts that these nationwide injunctions, these nationwide stays, I mean
everywhere you're looking, this is, every day it's like I swear that's about
50% of the news cycle is which federal judge is in the face of President Trump
that particular day. So we have that. All right, let's see. Census, according to census reports, this in Daily
Courier, Ashland's population is shrinking. Oh, really? They lost 2%. More than 400 people down
since 2020. That's interesting. Wouldn't have figured that. Of course, it is an expensive place. It is rarefied air.
A rarefied, expensive place to go there.
I think it is wise that the Grants Pass City Council decided to put those raises on hold.
I don't know.
How are you going to try to sell to people, many people who haven't had a raise in years
or nothing sizable in years, and you're being told that you have to have
a and I mean and I'm not picking on on Aaron Kubik but a quarter of a million
dollar manager practically a quarter of a million dollar manager for your city I
still think that's gonna it's not flying with a lot of people just by opinion. I think there are times to raise salaries and
it would seem to me that I think we would know if Aaron and once again just picking on Aaron
because he has the biggest one. Aaron, I don't you know this is not nothing personal but
we'll find out if the Grants Pass City Manager is not being paid enough if the Grants Pass City Manager quits.
That's normally how we...but I know you're not supposed to do this.
I mean, everybody has to be paid.
If you're managing a city or a county or elsewhere, you must be getting paid at least three to
four times what a governor is getting paid here in the state of Oregon.
Plus PERS.
Yay. in the state of Oregon, plus PERS, yay. And boy, that's, you know,
you gotta concentrate on the important stuff, okay?
Everyone's gonna have to give a little bit.
And yeah, $40,000 a year raises for many people
in renting residents who don't even make $40,000, that would tend to
irritate, wouldn't you think?
Yeah.
And then you have in Ashland, Eric Novick is that article in ashland.news.
He's facing charges of harassment.
He got into a scuffle with the chief of police there at the Tuesday night city council meeting.
Man.
And they're calling him racist because he was
alluding to, well, we get a bunch of black people in Ashland and the crime rate would
go up. You want that? It's just really sub. Maybe that's 400 people that moved out of
Ashland, that other story. 400 people move out of Ashland because they just can't take
it anymore, right? All right. I've had it with this one.
I don't know, just having a little bit of fun. And we also have Oregon Congressman Cliff Bentz
insisting that Republicans are not cutting Medicaid
and SNAP benefits.
Well, he's gonna be in Tuesday.
We're gonna talk a little bit about that.
No, they're not, and he's right,
they're not directly cutting it,
but the thing is you increase the requirements
and you have fewer freeloaders,
and that's what part of, and we talked about this one, Medicaid is Oregon Health Plan. It bloated under the
Biden administration and the state of Oregon expanded it greatly. And so this is about putting
some work requirements. So you just can't, unless you're disabled and really needy,
you're not going to be getting into the free insurance Oregon
health care boat because you need to keep enough money in the free insurance
boat for people who really need it rather than, well, semi-deadbeats who could be
working and providing insurance for themselves. Okay? Seems like a reasonable
thing in my view. Let me grab a few calls here before the end of the show. Hi, good
morning. Who's this? And welcome. Hello? Hey, Bill. Good morning. Bill, it's Brad. Good morning to you. Hey, Brad. Go
ahead. We're going to have a lot of time. Give me a quick take on something hot.
Yeah. Hey, Bill, at a future date, would you please revisit where are all these power subsidies that
we're paying for going to? Maybe the Cascade Policy Institute knows, but we know that these really, really expensive subsidies for all these wind farms and solar
farms and so on, many of them are going to corporations that aren't even United States
corporations. Would you please look into that at some future date?
Yeah, I'll do my best. I'll call up John Charles. He runs that, the Institute. Maybe they've
done some papers on it. I just didn't know.
Okay. All right.
We're getting in there. We're getting in air conditioner season. Most people don't know that a big chunk of the money
they're paying for this stuff isn't even staying in the United States. Fair enough.
It's Memorial Day weekend, and we've got a lot to be thankful for and a lot to remember.
And I hope everyone comes out and goes out. And remember our world and remembers our war dead. Okay,
aim aim and we have a beautiful national cemetery. I mean, it's just I I love going out there. I hope
everyone takes advantage of going out there this weekend. All right, we'll do thank you very much
Brad. Let me grab another call here and we'll make it happen. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Welcome.
Who's this? Welcome. Bill, Jerry.
Hi, Jerry.
An AI comment.
Oh, okay. Yeah, I had that comment with Mark this morning, 6.30, that I want to get a copy of his AI book.
But what are you thinking about that?
Well, I heard the first part of his interview and the last part, but I do agree with him on his conclusions.
Question everything. Tell
your kids to question everything. I'll tell you who's gonna love this. Who's
that? The people who are lazy and don't like to think. Who are lazy and don't like
what now? To think mentally. Oh yeah, yeah. The individuals who wish to be spoon-fed everything in their thought process, right?
Yes. I think it's just an authoritarian indoctrination camp coming.
That has been one of the challenges that I have had with this one. And I know I've raised this.
Elon Musk, and I'm just picking on Elon because he has a direct connection to the technocracy lineage of the 1930s.
His mother's family was connected into this, and it appears that he, along with the other
tech bros, are just diving into this just with both feet and hands, really.
And you can't help but... Well, we get paid to notice things,
right Jerry, as citizens? Well, that's right Bill. And hey, guess what? You know, we shouldn't
question AI because those are smart people who created these. Exactly. I grab one more call here.
Hi, good morning. Who's this? Yeah, good morning, Bill. It's David again. Just wanted to ask if I'm hoping in the future
we can hear about Michael and the Medford School Board and what happened and with Rob
and with the Mountain Church people because it was a big deal and then it all just kind
of disappeared. I've been going to school board meetings.
Yeah. Well, I've been thinking about this. I am going to reach out to Michael. I've wanted to
because now that the school board election is gone, we'll see what happens next. All right.
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll approach it next week. Thanks so much, folks. Email Bill

about Freddie's, but in particular, it's burger heaven. There's the double cheese, the bacon cheese,
