Man, I just thought I'm so filled with scratchy
kind of coffee throat today, I'm thinking, okay, are the allergies really bad? And this
spring has been a rough one for me, I don't know if it's been rough for you. So I ended
up looking up the pollen report. It says that the pollen in Southern Oregon is very low. I said, wait a minute, it's you know like regular flower pollen
and tree pollen and what do they call it ragweed right? That's low. I think then
why am I why am I snorting around and being like crazy and got the scratchy
throat and I started losing my voice sometimes. They said grass pollen is off
the chart. That's what they were talking about.
So that's it. It's one out of the three is off the chart.
So apparently I have a problem with the grass pollen.
Man, oh man, just something.
Hopefully you're not snorting and scratchy like I am this morning.
I don't really like allergy medicine though.
Because of the...
Well, first off, it's an interrupting kind of. I I'm not a big fan of that stuff
But maybe it's just better to put up with the suffering Bonnie writes me from to Alatin saying hey Bill
You're talking about these
racist state legislators going for
Reparations and more you know before getting the job representing the Portland racist in Salem, Lou Frederick was with Portland Public Schools, maybe as a spokes guy.
Kind of explains a lot.
And a point well taken.
Bonnie, appreciate your writing.
The email bill at BillMeyerShow.com.
All right, we'll check town hall news in just a moment.
And then Dr. Dennis Powers, we haven't talked to him for about two, three weeks.
We'll do where past meets present.
Some great news out of the Supreme Court last week.
Other news, including what's happening here.
I know that LA police have now declared an unlawful public demonstration here when it
comes down into Los Angeles.
I don't know if that'll change much.
Maybe they'll finally get tough after a few more things burn down.
I don't know.
But we'll keep you up on it here on the Bill Maier Show.
Save big with Oregon E-Deals. Pick up a $100 Cartwrights Market gift.
Gotta have the Lucretia theme here. Lucretia you are the way in on that Francine having
contributed the how to tell the white out the ripe watermelon out there in the store
because I've been ripped off so many times on that I'm not a big fan but you want to add to that?
Go ahead. Yeah yeah I just wanted to top both Dean and Francine on this one. If you'll click on the link I gave you, you'll see right
about seven o'clock, 7 15, you'll see a picture of a watermelon. In the middle of this chart,
you have scorpions, you have wasps, you have the bees, you have the snakes, and you have the spider venom.
These are the different venoms that they're putting in the seed so these plants grow venom. You see you had to ruin my watermelon now, come on, Lucretia.
I was wondering, I mean it's in your corn, it's in your cabbage, it's in your sunflower seeds,
you know, because the sunflowers, it's in your lettuce, it's in your cabbage, it's in your sunflower seeds, you know, because the sunflowers, it's in your lettuce, it's in your cucumbers, it's in your celery, I mean, it's even in, shoot, mystidia,
I love so much, you know, it's like... Okay, yeah, there's a little bit of this,
you know, chemical relationship to venom going a long way to saying that there is
venom in our food, Lucretia. Well, they're growing. I know, but if you listen and then you look at
the chart, it's there itself. And I also found that the Pistarum, which Dave says
is being sprayed across the land, Dave asked, you know, he said he won't eat any
corn because it all has Pistarum. Well, let me tell you, let me tell you, corn is hard
to avoid in the food stuff too. It's in all sorts of things. It really doesn't belong. Point well taken.
All right, Lucretia, I'm still going to eat an occasional watermelon. All right.
Thanks for the call. Let me go to Brad. Hey, Brad, go ahead. How you doing?
Have a little fun this morning. What's on your mind?
Hey, fun's a good thing, Bill. Good morning. Morning.
So so, Bill, you're pointing out what a lot of people have suspected
for a long time that these protests are well-funded, well-organized, that these are not local people, they're being
bussed in, these are professional agitators.
And what's really interesting is that you look at what Gateway Pundit and other places
have been reporting on, is that the NGOs seem to be backing up a lot of this, right? Right. So again, and you know this, this is why pulling gigantic amounts of money away from these
NGOs via Doge is absolutely kryptonite to the political left.
This is where all their money used to come from, and that money is rapidly being turned
off.
But here's something that you may have thought about before,
but you're gonna find this interesting.
So back in BLM days, again,
we had these astroturf things going on.
We had people being bussed in.
It was outside agitation being imported into our community.
It's starting again.
I happen to know that our local communities
are being contacted at the administrative
level and requests from people about what are the requirements to have a protest in
your city.
In other words, you got out of area people, they're getting ready to organize into, and
I would imagine it's probably going to happen in Clamma Falls and, you know, I mean, probably
not in Schmaltalt or somewhere like that, but
these communities and maybe county seats. And what's going to happen is you're going to have these astroturf events that are funded from outside the area, bringing in, you know, these
paid protesters. So look for LA to come to Medford and Grants Pass? Probably more from
Portland than LA. but what you're
going to see is when they get the media there, they're going to say when the
media finally hits, it's going to be, and I'll just use an example,
Eagle Point people protest Trump's policies or Central Point people
protest Trump's policies. Yeah, that's how it will be reported. Right? Yeah, I can see that.
That's what's going to be the line, because the camera can't tell who came in on a bus
and who's there.
But what I hear is that the date is going to be Trump's birthday, which is June 14th.
So just remember, you heard it here first, when you see these things, when you see such
and such people or such and such city
protesting Trump, 98% of those people are from out of the area and they're being paid
to do these protests.
Point well taken, and we'll see what happens, all right?
Thank you very much, Brad.
Quarter after eight, Dr. Dennis Power standing by.
We're past meets present.
We haven't talked to him loads of times, so we'll catch up on the legal news, the latest

Delighted to have Dr. Dennis Powers. It's been what about three weeks since we talked.
Dennis, welcome back to the show. Good to have you on.
Oh yeah, great. And as a matter of fact, it's always the pleasure, especially given the fact of all the places that we go.
So my friend, where do you first want to go?
Well, why don't we start with a little bit of history? We haven't done some here for a while.
We've talked about the founding of many of our cities these last few weeks.
Last couple of months, really, we've been doing this and it's always kind of fun to hear how
it all started. So often something started because someone found a hunk of gold someplace,
right? It's amazing how much of that happened here in Southern Oregon or else it was near
a place that had some people who found a hunk of gold and so then they end up saying, okay,
we're going to form this city to supply the miners you know and make more money but
let's talk about Shady Cove today we haven't talked about Shady Cove for a
while what about the history there it's still very small very compact and a lot
of people love living there though what do you say? Oh absolutely and what's good
is is that the names so far that we're going through, I don't think they're going to be
able to change by the latest Salem legislation, which is to change names of towns and cities
and streets and places that they think are not correct, which is terrible.
But on the other hand, Shady Cove, this is one of the ones I really enjoyed, you know, going up
to the town like all of us do, especially on the way to Crater Lake. But going back
to the mid-1800s, Bill, Pastor Byes actually described the Shady Cove from
where the town gets its name. It was the place where weary travelers could rest from the hot sun.
And this is some 300 yards upstream from the present Highway 62 bridge in town.
And the thing about this is that this is where the ferry was where people could cross the
river.
Now the ferry in those days for some time was just a thick rope stretched across the river. Now the ferry in those days for some time was just a thick rope
stretched across the river. Oh, kind of like that ferry in the outlaw Josie
Wales, right, with Clint Eastwood. They're going across the river, they just kind of
tow themselves across with the rope. Is that how that worked? That sort of thing?
That's exactly right. And so it was one where they had the rope and then they had the
attachment to the raft, you know, in terms of a loop before they went ahead and took
the thick rope together, and then they'd just go ahead and it was really quite
something because it was a flat boat, actually, with your will, actually a flat
raft, and horses and wagon trains, one
wagon train could go in. So it would take time to do this. But this is where
people in the Shady Cove would stay while waiting for this ferry.
And then they'd be going off to the Gold Camps in Jacksonville, various other
things are going on, or else heading to Eastern Oregon. So, and either way, boy, if
you're going to head to the Gold Camp So and either way, boy if you're gonna head to the gold camps in Jacksonville just
getting over on the other side of Shady Cove, my goodness you still had a
long travel before you ready to get to Jacksonville in those days huh? Very true
because the fact that the trails that came down were you know, very muddy during the winter season, and they were hard as pavement during
the summer.
And so it was really quite an arduous journey that our forefathers and grandparents, great-grandparents
did at that time.
And the first recorded instance of the town's name was two developers that built
a home in vacation cabins. You could even see it because I would actually
drive up with Judy to go ahead and try to find these places. There's a small
road that goes off just before you go on the bridge and that was where these
developers were building all the vacay you know wasn't there like isn't there still like a little cabin
up on one of those little roads by the bridge it looks like a little house now
that may be built into a house these days
I've been a while if that is correct and what's interesting is that this is where
Medford
citizens during the hot summer on the plains
would go for their being away from the hot
summer in Medford.
Sure, no air conditioning, no Pacific power in those days, right?
That kind of thing.
That's so true.
All right.
Now, so when did Shady Cove incorporate?
When was that?
When did it become an official city?
Well, that's a good question and that's interesting because it was one of the
latest, if not the latest, 1972 after that disastrous Rogue River flood. And then five
years later after that incorporation, you had Jess Dam in Lost Creek Lake that was completed construction of the reservoir, which
is like nine miles north of Shady Cove.
I've been throughout there with a good friend of mine, fishing for salmon on all different
places on the Rogue, and we explored a number of this and that is still some real tricky terrain
that's north of Shady Cove as you're going through and it's about 3,000
people. You had a number of Californians that came in and went there. As a
matter of fact, some years ago, Bill, a friend of of mine in on the way before uh... i'd moved uh... in nineteen
ninety two up here which has been just a great experience
we would go ahead uh... and visit a friend of ours in that that was above
shady cove
in terms of looking at places
uh... for real estate
it you know that one could go ahead and purchase and hold and take
it from there.
We had developers from Northern California going up into that area, even from Santa Barbara.
I think that the real limiting to development is still probably the availability of water,
wouldn't you say?
I still think that's the tough one. It is, but on the other hand, the ability of putting in subject tanks and waters
in southern Oregon is much easier because in California, they had an absolute moratorium
based in terms of the Glito water district.
And it was almost impossible, which is why you have houses that are selling in millions
for what would be selling for a third of that here because of that discrepancy.
Yup, supply and demand for sure.
City of Shadyko, we have that up on KMAD.com, or I will put that up on KMED.com later.
Now, there has just been a fire hose of news.
You ready to go in it?
Into that talk just a moment?
Oh, I'll tell you wherever you want to go.
You know, you have the duck blind and the retrievers.
All right.
Right back here at Dr. Powers, where past meets present.
Oregon Truck and Auto Authority.
I think he misses the place.
Talk about it on 106.3 KMED.
Good morning. This is News Talk 106.3 KMED. Good morning. This is News Talk 106.3 KMED.
And you're waking up with the Bill Meyers show.
27 after eight, where past meets present, Dr. Dennis Powers.
Hey Doc, that whole dust up with Trump and Musk,
I'm starting to feel more like it was engineered WWE theater.
Or do you think there was some real heft to it? Part of me wonders if this
is just the way that they are both able to look more independent from one another and
not tied to the hip. Any thoughts on that?
Yeah. Actually, I thought that my wife, Judy, really hit the nail in the head because she said,
you know, it was inevitable for the two of them who were such type A powerful people.
In other words, two big dogs peeing on one another, right?
That kind of thing.
Yeah, two big dogs that actually were going to end up resisting each other because they both have been so
successful.
You know, the person being Trump with the power of the world and Musk being the multi-billion
inventor of the world.
And when we look at why did it happen, I believe my friend, it wasn't just as much the fact
that both of them are top sled dogs.
It's the fact that when Musk was going through all the dodge, he instinctively felt that
he had some different issues that he could win with Trump on.
And one of them had to, two of them, was the O'Leary came up with a very good argument
that he was totally, he being Musk, was totally surprised, Bill, by the fact that since 2017,
the deficit has been $2 trillion plus, and he seemed genuinely
surprised over how bad it was, even under the Trump days, but on the other hand, you
had the Democrats controlling a House, at least.
Yeah, and the other aspect of it is, you can tell, I think he genuinely was upset about
the deficit, but he's also upset about the deficit because he wants the deficit brought down so that we could send
more money into Elon Musk rockets, truth be told.
Yeah, and where that is is is evidence was that the fight over when Trump withdrew the nomination to NASA, who was a very close friend of Musk,
and even where SpaceX had three consecutive launches that didn't make it, that destroyed,
were destroyed.
He was still, he being this person that Trump pulled out because of apparently affiliations
with the far left down the road, they went ahead and that was one of the things that
really hit in, especially given the fact that with the May of the Marxists, we're destroying
Tesla dealerships.
Yeah, I could see all sorts of things going on in there, but to me it's starting to feel
more like, well, each was able to get some of what they wanted out of the other.
I've always thought it was kind of a very transactional relationship per se.
And the point being is always that I didn't trust Elon Musk even before this situation
because he made his...
It's water under the bridge at this point.
We'll see where this goes.
My concern is that he's just another tech bro and wanting to bring in the singularity
and the brain chips and all the other things.
I have issues with this, but one way or the other.
He's right.
It is a bad bill.
It is a bad bill, but it's a bad bill that's probably the only one they could have come up with to pass.
What say you about that? Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. And his timing was horrid
in terms of this big bill that really goes into a lot of areas. But the other reason was that Musk
was very much in tune when he runs with one of his companies, which he's done
for decades.
He was used to, he makes a decree and that's it, it's done tomorrow.
But in Washington, which is people who would be agreeing with him, let's say in Nebraska,
would not be agreeing with him on cuts in New York, it's a
different ballgame and it's much more trading. All right, fair enough. Doc, let's
talk about some great wins in the Supreme Court last weekend. The court was
actually pretty united in many cases for President Trump, which is different when
you look at some of the circuit courts or the federal courts. It's been a rough go of it, but pretty easy wins really, wasn't it?
Weren't they?
Yes, that is on point.
They were easy wins, all three of them.
There was one that had to do with the Mexican government that brought a lawsuit against the US gun manufacturers,
which is international, on the argument that these guns produced in the United
States were actually in collusion and sent to the cartels.
They were not able to make that case at all. They didn't really bring any
evidence that the manufacturers themselves conspired to do this, right? That was the main issue of
the case?
Well, that was an issue that I first thought about until I read the description, which
is causation. But the other one, Bill, is that there was an actual law in the United
States, a federal law, that on guns that disallowed having lawsuits if someone used the guns
illegally because otherwise the far left would have just put all gun manufacturers
out of business because they would have just sued and even the Supreme Court in
our country couldn't keep up with these far-left lawsuits. So the cartels end up
using guns to do illegal activity in Mexico. That's not the fault of the
manufacturers is the bottom line. Correct. And that makes sense. The
other one was, I thought there's an interesting one, the one about the
straight woman who got passed over because the LGBTQ boss wanted to hire an
LGBTQ person. Now this essentially means that discrimination is still discrimination for real right? Yes but on that one I mean the fact of course
it could only be in Wisconsin you know or one of these these these states but
anyway a heterosexual woman was passed over by a gay woman, and then she was replaced by
a gay man.
And that's just patent on the facts that it's illegal reverse discrimination.
But the court easily, on 9-0, came up and said there is no higher standard that has
to be placed on a majority worker when they are discriminated against
as we're seeing right and left underneath the Biden administration by identity politics.
That was actually a very big decision because up to this point it was like, oh, so what?
You're a white guy or a white woman or a straight guy or something.
I remember here, and I've talked about this before, Dr.
It was about 1989 or so that my old job had reopened at a station in Seattle that I had
worked at and I applied for it. I just got a call from the people involved there at the station and
they just told me, and they were friends of mine, so I was friendly with them.
But they said, we're not going to hire a white guy.
We can't hire a white guy.
We have to hire a person of color or a minority at that point, is what they were saying.
They were going down to the minority hire quota kind of situation that was existing.
That was like 35, 36 years ago.
Does that mean that that kind of open
behavior kind of goes away at this point with even this this kind of lawsuit
having won at the Supreme Court? That's a good question. And what even at that time
I would when I was in practicing law I'd have clients of mine that would come in
with that and I you know with the fact of this reverse discrimination, it happened quite a lot.
You're right.
And over all these years, with Hakeem Jeffries and the other Marxists, they are just going
to look the other way in these decisions and keep on going with their identity politics.
We saw that with the Second Amendment, with the fact that New York just didn't go ahead and follow the Supreme Court decision having to do with the Second Amendment on guns.
Yeah, I'm wondering why we're going to see some of those Bruin challenges because you can tell right now, doctor, that the states are ignoring Bruin in many cases and the various other decisions and just well Oregon is going to be one of those states too. You can see the battle lines drawing.
It's really showing itself to be the laughing stock of the country, especially
given the fact that they have had Salem, which has no checks on it for sanity, is
going ahead in so many different ways and has had to pull back on
major decisions, you know,
such as decriminalization, all these things because they want a ticket into Washington,
D.C. Very upset from a source that I talked to in terms of not being able to go to Washington,
D.C., where the real money is, because Trump was elected.
All right.
Hocks on Salem.
All right.
And the final decision that came out last week had to do with Wisconsin and religion,
did it not?
It was having to do, at this case the states changed, and it was Ohio.
And this was easy.
Oh, Ohio, I'm sorry.
Oh, no problem.
The key thing is that it was another nine to O, and it was where a Catholic charity
actually was denied a tax benefit for unemployment tax benefits by the state because of the fact that the argument was that this went ahead, this nonprofit went
ahead and didn't minister just to Catholics. In other words, they weren't
being religious enough in their activity. That was essentially the argument being
made by the state, correct? And that's the feckless argument we have going on right now here
in Medford with a charity that ministers to youth who are homeless and that's the
same one to where our beloved governor went ahead with the legislature and
didn't fund, as they did for years, $400,000.
Now, didn't they lose that case?
Didn't the state end up losing that case in Oregon?
And the reason is that there is apparently a settlement, but it was the Alliance.
And Bill, Alliance Defending Freedom.
Forget about giving your money in terms of losing political decisions.
Give it to the Alliance Defending Freedom. And also,
when you go into these 9-0 cases, there are other nonprofits that are trying to keep religion sane.
All right. Glad to hear it. Doc, I wanted to shift here before we take off here. The LA riots
that happened over the weekend here, I know the Democrats are calling the the riots peaceful protests, you know, it's only a little bit of burning, right?
It's only... I know that we laugh at the absurdity of it all, but this is the kind of absurd world
that we are living in. Trump ends up calling in the National Guard, a couple thousand National Guard.
What I'm wondering about though is you have any twosom scum or new scum or whatever you want to call them,
whatever nickname you want to give them there, he's upset that the president did
it without Newsom wanting it. Same with the the LA mayor saying that this is
inflammatory. And what are the constitutional issues involved here? Is
the president authorized to do something without
it or is it one of those things where it is customary for the state to ask for it first
because it is obvious that LA was not under control? Well, in this case, in the facts,
first of all, yes, in terms of the constitution on that specific question, you're absolutely right, Bill, in the fact that a president
of the United States, Trump, can call in the National Guard federalizing them without being
asked for by the state.
On the second thing, the actual facts, these turkeys actually turned down the request by the White House that we should send in
and will your police work with the National Guard?
They said no, we're going to have them stand down, which is why you're seeing them stand
down. And of course, with the corporate media, with the drive-by outside media, the Soros media,
which is really what it is, ABC, NBC, CBS, you know, the Soros media, you have them going
ahead and saying it's a peaceful protest as Hakeem Jeffries, head Marxist in chief.
You know, you don't have burned up Waymo cars in peaceful protests. You just don't
do that, okay? That's not the deal. You know, and throwing up and throwing
out, you know, Molotovs and going out and putting anti-ice slogans on
buildings. You know, that's not a peaceful protest, Doc, in my view.
No, no, and you're absolutely right,
because they were there and it stopped.
I mean, think about the Baltimore riots
having to do with George Floyd.
And you know, the thing that hit me,
that I really, I just had this Eureka moment.
I said, you know, this drive-by media is so corrupt
that these individual riots and demonstrations
such as anti-ice, and then we had, remember, we had anti-Tesla burning
Tesla dealerships, we've had anti-troop defund the police, we've had, and then we have China and Russia, we have Soros and Obama.
This is a Marxist far-left revolution that is being splintered up by a multifaceted Hydra.
And the United States has got to put this together because this is why this is a Marxist
far-left situation, even in Oregon.
It needs to be put down like the rabid dog it is, Doc.
And this is something that, I was talking with State Rep Dwayne Younger this morning,
that there are still, the Republicans, I don't know if it's battered wife syndrome, battered
spouse syndrome, I think is the way you should put it, because either husbands or wives could be beaten in a relationship, a bad relationship.
You have so many of the Republicans that are ostensibly the opposition party, but yet they
cannot grasp the concept that, no, they are not in favor of civilization.
No, they're not for the rule of law.
I'm speaking about the opposition party by and large, okay? No, they hate you, okay? So it's
like quit thinking that you are dealing with normal, just the Democrats of old,
all right? These are not the same types of groups that you're dealing with and
until Republicans, especially the state of Oregon, come to grips with this reality,
there has been very little fight, you know, to resist it. And I mean, I understand why it's hard, hard to resist it, but
they're not dealing with Democrats as we would like to think of a Democrat being.
Is that a fair assessment of what we're talking about, even what you're going through? This is different.
Very, very fair assessment.
Plus the fact that
when you look at the idiotic laws that come from Salem, and they just break it up into all these individual little pockets,
such as
unions only will get contracts for state building.
Yeah, now that got thrown out, fortunately.
Courts got involved in that one.
But yeah, that's where they were going.
Yeah, but you see, if we continue through everything and then we go into other states,
I'll come up to the conclusion.
Oregon is very low of all the states in terms of quality of education.
Oregon is on a list of states that will be empty by 2030.
And we all have our own, my friend, vicarious types of evidence.
I have friends of mine.
These are friends I keep up with.
They've never voted for a Republican, because we have something that we have an interest, you know,
whether it's Bridge or whether it's something else. And they've all left
saying this state is too crazy for them. Yeah, but will the state change its
voting patterns to avoid the crazy ultimate offering? That's right. Salem basking in this power just because they love power,
they're no different than Marxist Harkim Jeffreys. No, it's still a rabid dog that needed being
put down, that movement. Doc, I wish that were a happy way to wrap up, but yeah, Oregon is probably one step.
And I guess rumor has it that we could probably see similar stuff coming up maybe this weekend
with President Trump's birthday.
You could almost guarantee that in Portland at least, right?
You can see that coming?
I do.
I do see that.
And I've gotten word about people that are flying in. You know, this is off shoot of my wife's family
who are really far left for demonstrating at the Trump birthday. But
the other thing too is what makes me feel comfortable, just to give us the
one-liner, which is the fact that when Trump keeps saying, you know, they said that in terms of the border, they needed new laws.
All they needed was a new president.
That's all they needed.
Absolutely.
That breaks the chuckle to my face.
I was talking with an Epoch Times investigative reporter, Josh Phillips,
this morning about that.
And he had gone down to the border.
And he would mention that he just went down there a few days ago and how the processing centers that had been there under the Biden
administration were shut down and were being dismantled there and instead of the 1,000 a day
they were coming in during the Biden administration he said the border crossings down there San Diego
area in that zone more in the neighborhood of 40 50
Maybe 60, you know that kind of thing much more manageable
So there is a different tone certainly which is why you see the Marxist protesting in LA for sure
Okay, doc, right and then one last quick thing sure go ahead funny line by Trump
And he said criticize me
You're giving me free PR my friend.

Number 2615444 for Steve Yancey at Sky Park Insurance.
Now, I don't know if the wildfire bill will be, the wildfire map rather, will be repealed
or not.
I was talking with Yunker a little earlier this morning
and it's being held hostage in exchange for half of the kicker
or at least a big chunk of the kicker.
And the way I'm looking at it, that damage has been done
as far as wildfire, I'd hate to see them,
see the Republicans just cave and go for it
just to get the wildfire map repealed
when the damage has already been done,
but at great, great cost.
I don't know. But if you're having some issues here with getting property insurance,
talk with Steve over at Skypark 2615444, 2615444. Medicare questions? We're going to talk more with

And I'm on KMED diner 62 real American quiz
All right, we got four people lined up
Kathy with a K and Lauren, Jim, and Central Point
Jack's here too. We're going to start with Kathy. Hello, Kathy, how you doing? I'm doing great,
thank you. Kathy, yesterday, June 8th, 1967, Israel attacks the USS Liberty. This doesn't
get talked a lot about because, well, it's a little uncomfortable. But we're going to talk about it
because it's worth mentioning what happened to these men.
During the Six-Day War, Israeli aircraft and torpedo boats attacked the USS Liberty in
international waters off the Gaza Strip.
The intelligence ship, well marked as an American vessel and only lightly armed, was initially
attacked by Israeli aircraft that fired napalm and rockets.
The Liberty tried to radio for assistance, but the Israeli aircraft blocked the transmissions.
Eventually, the ship was able to make contact with the U.S. carrier Saratoga, and 12 fighter jets and four tanker planes were dispatched to defend the Liberty.
When word of their deployment reached Washington, however, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara ordered them recalled to the carrier, and they never reached the Liberty.
The reason for the recall remains unclear, shrouded in mystery.
The question though for the win, how long did the attack on the USS Liberty last?
Was it A. 15 minutes?
Was it B. 30 minutes?
C. 45 minutes?
D. An hour?
Or E. Two hours?
What do you say?
I'm going to guess 45 minutes. 45 minutes right
there in the middle. No, it's not that, but I appreciate you trying. Thanks, Kathy, with
the K. Let me go to Lauren. Hello, Lauren. How are you doing? I'm doing okay. I'm glad
to get in on this for a change. All right. You might know this one being your military
background. How long did the attack on the USS Liberty last? 15, 30 minutes,
one hour, or two hours? What do you say?
Uh, 15. Okay, I'm going to go with 30 minutes.
Going to go with 30 minutes. No, it wasn't that either.
Appreciate you trying. Let me go to Jim in Central Point. Hello, Jim?
Hey.
We either got 15 minutes, one hour, or two hours. How long was the USS Liberty under attack?
15 minutes.
15 minutes. No, it was longer than that. Let me go to Jim, Jim in Central Point. Hello, Jim. How you
doing? This is Jack, Bill. Oh, Jack. I'm sorry, Jack. Pardon me. That's okay.
One hour or two hours. How long was the USS Liberty under attack, June 8th, 1967?
For two hours, how long was the USS Liberty under attack June 8, 1967? 50-50.
Let me flip a coin.
How about two hours?
Two hours.
Good day for you.
You're a winner!
It's a bad day for the crew, though.
One source specifically mentions the attack lasted one hour and fifteen minutes, and another
for an hour, and she remained under a threat.
But the weight of evidence suggests a total duration closer to two hours and including the
initial air attack that left nine of the 294 crew dead and 60 hurt. The ship
attacked by Israeli torpedo boats which launched torpedoes and fired artillery
at the ship. Under the command of its wounded captain William McGonigal, the
Liberty managed to avert four torpedoes but one struck the ship at the waterline.
Heavily damaged, the ship launched three lifeboats, but they were also attacked.
Failing to sink the Liberty, which displaced 10,000 tons, by the way, the
Israelis finally desisted. In all, 34 Americans killed, 171 wounded in the two
hour attack. In the attack's aftermath, the Liberty managed to limp to a safe port.
Now, Israel later apologized for the attack and offered about $7 million in compensation,
claiming that it had mistaken the Liberty for an Egyptian ship. However, Liberty survivors and some former US officials
believed the attack was deliberate, staged to conceal Israel's pending seizure of the Golan Heights, which happened the next day.
So like I said, there's a lot of back and forth on that one, and even today they're
still talking about it.
But it was worth mentioning this crew because this ended up being one of the, if not the,
one of the most heavily awarded ship in military service, in Navy service, because
of everything that they did.
It was just an incredible, incredible tale of survival for those men.
Hang on, and Jack, we're going to take care of business there with you, okay?
And we'll have another Diner 62 quiz this week.
I call Murray with your money now.
8.57, we got about a minute before we turn into a pumpkin. David's in the Bay Area.
David you want to talk about the LA riots go ahead give me your hot take I
only got like I said 40 seconds or so can you give me a quick one?
Oh yeah Bill it's just Donald Trump claimed he's against big government but
he is big government that's what LA is all about oh and the other thing they're
trying to sneak in the big beautiful bill that's going to basically give America's money over to the super rich,
and then they're going to cut the safety programs for us. Well, unfortunately, that's the reality
of where the money is for sure. You know, the one thing I would say, you know, if you're talking about big government,
though, if there is one job for government that would be protecting us from, I mean, a true
insurrection and safety. So I might disagree with you some on that, but maybe partially agree on the
other. Okay, David, thanks for the call. The email bill at BillMyersShow.com. Got to go.
Two Dogs Fabricating is your exclusive North Star flatbed dealer and installer, but you're welcome the call, the email bill at BillMeierShow.com. Got to go.
