12 minutes after Ray, we're going to be talking Greater Idaho here in just a moment.
And Matt McCall, crew there, a little disappointed what happened in the state legislature or what
didn't happen. All right. And we'll have a conversation about that, kind of figure out
what's next here, all right?
What's next for the dollar?
Don't know.
We'll see what happens after the big, beautiful bill,
if that passes and what the markets
are going to think about that.
But the dollar, I'm looking here on the New York Times
this morning, not that I go to the New York Times
for everything, but they are telling me the truth
about this one.
Dollar is off to its worst start in a year
in more than a half century.
It's weakened more than a half century.
It's weakened more than 10% over the past six months when compared with a basket of currencies
from the country's major trading partners.
Last time the dollar weakened so much at the start of the year was 1973,
when the United States made a seismic shift that had ended the linking of the dollar to the price of gold.
And what has that price of gold done in the meantime? It's gone up about 23% just the first five, six months of 2025.
Yeah.
And your wealth does not have to go down with the ship of the dollar, if that's where the
dollar is going.
Who knows?
And what's been happening is that people have been pulling money out of the United States
when it comes to the bond market and have been putting it into physical gold. Central banks have been doing this
too. They're still thinking that in spite of President Trump's best efforts, we may
not be a good bet for loaning money to. Hmm, alright, now that might change. That
might change. But might not be a bad idea to have some physical gold and silver
with what's going on right now. Talk to the recognized experts,
that's J. Austin & Company gold and silver buyers in's going on right now. Talk to the recognized experts, rather, that's Jay Austin and Company,
gold and silver buyers in Ashland,
1632 Ashland Street in Ashland,
and 6th and G in downtown Grants Pass.
Mark is usually there on Monday,
but you can call for an appointment to find out more.
482-3715.
You can go and talk with Mark and Andrea this morning,
if you wanted to, in the Ashland store, okay?
One way or the other, they'll help you out. And make sure that your wealth doesn't go down with the ship. Have a
portion of it in physical gold and silver. Just my personal opinion. Also the opinion of Jay Austin
in Ashland and Grants Pass. This hour of the Bill Myers show is sponsored by Fontana Roofing.

and even though he lives in
i think you live in the northern part of
the state, don't you? Matt, welcome back. Good to have you on. Thank you, Bill. Yeah, I live in
central Oregon in Pal Butte, right in between Redmond and Brineville. Okay, and
you're doing your best to try to get a conversation going in which several
counties in the eastern part of Oregon would then merge and join with Idaho. And
I understand this, they're not feeling that you're getting a lot of representation.
Heck, here in southern Oregon, I don't feel like we get a lot of representation out of Salem right now.
Especially when I look at what happened in the latest legislative session.
But you're feeling a little ignored, I guess would be the case, because you had asked for a hearing.
What happened?
Yeah, so Bill, you know the Greater Idaho Movement. You know we've been going to counties
across Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon. We asked folks if they wanted to
separate from Oregon and be part of Idaho. And 13 counties in Eastern Oregon have said
yes. So the process is it has to go through the state legislature. So two
years ago in the state legislature, we had a bill that was introduced that
would have started border talks with Idaho.
And we had a similar bill that was in the Idaho legislature that passed in the Idaho
legislature, but the one in Oregon was completely ignored.
So we went back to the people we kept asking.
They kept saying, yes, we want our elected leaders to do that.
This legislative session, we were back in the legislature with a bill on the House side
that would have created a committee to study moving the border and a bill in the Senate side.
And one of the big differences between this legislative session and the last legislative
session was in this session, we actually had the support and advocacy of the representatives
of Eastern Oregon.
So two years ago when we were trying to push this in the legislature, it was just a bunch
of grassroots people and our elected representatives, you know, kind of kept this at arm's distance. This legislative session,
our bill on the House side was co-sponsored by three of the Eastern Oregon representatives
that represent the counties out here. And our bill in the Senate side was put forward
by one of our three senators that represent Eastern Oregon. But then they, those three
senators sent a letter to
the committee head asking for a hearing.
We actually have our Eastern Oregon representatives and leaders advocating, asking for movement
on these bills, but once again, the Democrat majority in Salem completely ignored us, did
not give us a hearing.
And you know, myself and some other people from our leadership team were in the Capitol
and advocating.
And just a lot of closed doors that this is not something that the Democrat majority is willing to even discuss.
Interesting that they don't even want to talk about this because honestly, I mean, if you were to talk to many of those majority Democrats in Salem,
they would tend to look at those Eastern Oregon counties as welfare counties, right? They cost a lot more than they end up
paying in taxes into Salem, wouldn't they? Absolutely, absolutely. And this is a...
Our proposal is a win-win for the state. It gets better representation for the
people of Eastern Oregon. It gets better representation for the people of Western
Oregon. And it saves Western Oregon a ton of money because our Eastern Oregon counties are poorer than our Western Oregon counties.
So Western Oregon counties send money to Eastern Oregon.
That being said, our Eastern Oregon counties are not poorer than Idaho counties because
we're almost exactly the same GDP economic wise.
So it is a win-win solution, which makes it all the more frustrating that our Democratic leaders
and legislators won't even have the conversation and won't even consider this well-crafted
plan that creates a win for both sides of the state.
Matt, I can't help but think, and I've mentioned this to you in the past, that one of the challenges
when you're looking to get out of a bad marriage is that I still think that
the abusive spouse, which I would dare say is the same legislature in Oregon, is just
like, if I can't have you, nobody can.
I can't help but think that there's a bit of that going on.
Do you agree or is there something else going on?
Oh, for sure.
When we talk to legislators in Western Oregon that don't want to let us do this,
what we consistently hear is, no, no, no, no, no, we love all of Oregon. We love you. We're not
going to let you go because we can't stand the thought of losing any part of Oregon.
We're the complete, you know, kind of slap in the face to the people who live here that say,
look, we're not being treated well, we're not being represented well, and
we don't care if you love us, we want out. And what we want should be what is driving
policy here, not what people who live the miles away want. So absolutely, I think there's
part of that, Bill. One of the things, again, in a marriage, if you're unhappy, you can
leave and nobody can stop you. You can't have an abusive spouse that says,
I refuse to allow you to leave.
But that's exactly the situation we're in here.
Eastern Oregon is not happy in their relationship
with the state of Oregon.
They're voting to say we want to separate,
peacefully separate, go our own way and join Idaho
and Western Oregon, Oregon, the state,
is refusing to let us do that.
What is next then for the greater Idaho movement then, given that the state is refusing to let us do that. What is next then for the greater Idaho movement then given that the state of
Oregon doesn't seem to want to listen? Yeah well that's a great question Bill
and so that's something that we're gonna spend the next couple of months so
there's a lot of different things that can be tried. We can continue to keep
going to the legislature and asking them and building support at the grassroots
level and asking them to let us go. You know, that is an option. I'm not convinced and I think the majority
of our supporters are not convinced after doing this for five years and
making our voice heard and still no movement out of the Oregon legislature
that that's going to change. But there's other options. There's things, ideas of
like autonomous regions. So that's something that's becoming more popular
across the country. Yeah, what does the autonomous region mean
though in practice? But essentially you can create an autonomous region within a
state that supersedes state government. So for instance, we could create an
autonomous region for Eastern Oregon, we could create an autonomous region for
Southern Oregon that would have...
So it would have its own Department of Education.
It would have its own Department of Labor or whatever.
And so it would take away all those state functions and put them at a regional level.
So there would still be a governor.
There would still be a state government, but you would take most of the power away
from the state level and give it to these autonomous regions.
And this is something, this is an idea that has been introduced in the New York legislature
in the past.
The state of Washington, Representative Rob Chase just introduced legislation in this
last session for an autonomous region for Eastern Washington from Western Washington.
So that is an option that's out there.
It's something that again, would our legislature put this in place on their own? Maybe not, but it might be something
that at a statewide level we could, as a people grassroots, we have this excellent opportunity
in the state of Oregon to bypass the legislature if there's enough support for something.
So that's an idea. We can move the borders in other ways. We could go directly to the people and ask them if they would allow parts of Oregon to
be carved off and moved to Idaho.
We could go to the people and ask people of the state if they want to carve off part of
Oregon like the metro area and separate it from Oregon.
So there's lots of different options.
What we're going to be doing over the next couple of months is going to our supporters
because at a base level, we've always been a grassroots organization.
We're just advocating for what the people of Eastern Oregon are wanting.
That's been our whole philosophy is we've gone to the people, they've told us what
they want, and then we go advocate for it.
So we're going to be figuring out what our supporters want over the next couple of months
and what direction they want us to go and then we'll move forward from there.
But you know, this isn't just because the legislature is over, just because we didn't
make progress doesn't mean that this isn't going anywhere.
The problem hasn't changed.
The problem is still the same.
The problem is getting worse actually.
So there's got to be some solution.
And so we're going to, you know, like I said, figure out what it is that our supporters want us to do and then
move forward from there. You know, another strategy, I'm speaking with Matt McCall
once again from the Greater Idaho Movement, greateridaho.org. Another
strategy might be to bide your time and keep your powder dry because, not that
I'm advocating this, but there is a trend worldwide.
It's not just in the United States,
but there is a trend just about every continent
that you look at in which people are wanting
to throw off the chains from some centralized authority
that has nothing to do with actually helping you.
I mean, even getting to the point
where people talk about a potential breakup
of the United States, not that I would advocate that, but there's certainly a different
worldview from the communists that run the state of Oregon and the communists
running the state of California and the ones running Washington.
Caius contrasted with what's going on in Montana, in Wyoming, in Idaho, in Utah.
You know, we can see a real difference.
And there may come a time that fiscal insolvency might get it to the point
where Oregon really couldn't say anything to you folks over in Eastern
Oregon and then, okay, fine, the hell with y'all, you know, that sort of thing. Do
what you want, okay, we'll sign the paper."
I know that it's a long shot, but just thinking out loud.
Yeah, well, and Bill, I think you're exactly right. You were saying, you know, there's
a lot of rumblings out of Alberta about going to a vote to separate from Canada. We see
Governor Gavin Newsom in California, you know, basically threatened to, you know, separate
if the feds, you knows sent the National Guard in.
We're so polarized and people have such different values, such different things, that
people on both sides of the aisle are starting to look at these solutions.
These solutions that would have at one point thought, you know, you would have thought
there's no way those things could happen.
People on both sides of the aisle across the the country, across the world, are looking at them because we have to figure out some
peaceful political solutions moving forward for people that just have really
different views about how they want communities. Matt McCall once again,
Greater Idaho, Greater Idaho Movement, GreaterIdaho.org where you can find
out about that. Keep us in the room on this Matt and I appreciate you sharing a
few thoughts. Didn't work out the way you wanted but you're not going away anytime soon from the sounds of it.

This is the Bill Meyers Show on 1063 KMED.
I'm glad you're here.
It's 8.30.
I'm gonna roll a couple of emails at you too,
hear people writing.
And I know you were talking a lot about education this morning
with President Weber from Rowe Community College.
And I was asking, hey, you know, what's going on there between K through 12 and what happens maybe at the community college level? Are we seeing any changes, any differences?
And you know, you don't want to throw anybody under the bus here, but we know that the ratings for K through 12 education have just been in the dumpster in the state of Oregon for a number of years. And it took a long time to get here. And there could be a lot
of finger pointing going on. I'm not blaming teachers. I know teachers are dealing with
a lot of kids in broken families too, that are coming in there, not ready to learn. We
have all sorts of pathologies we're struggling with. So there's no one answer. But the one
common thread that you can't help
but note is that what has happened over the last 20 to 30 years has been the move of control
from your local school board to the Oregon Department of Education. More of a top-down
situation. And this was largely done because of, I forget the name of the ballot measure
that ended up equalizing the funding, but you know putting
you know school money goes to the state and then gets doled back, you know to us in essence.
And so with that, with that money and with that control of the money
ends up being control of the educational process and one could say it has not been particularly
advantageous for the student.
I'm looking at an email I got yesterday from Ed Zangero, and Ed in Grants Pass said, he
writes me, Bill, not education at all.
Your reference to Oregon's failed education system this morning was too kind, Bill.
Really it was too kind.
I guess I'm trying to be polite about this, but this is what Ed said, his story.
My niece just went through every advanced placement class Grants Pass District 7 offered
through her 12 years of schooling.
Even she said, they're too easy.
Teachers refuse or are afraid to give homework.
High schoolers don't know basic geography, vocabulary, simple math that you
and I learned in sixth grade. They're simply not giving students the information they need.
It is a crime. Now, Ed's story there is kind of saying it's not a matter of stupid kids.
It's not the kids are stupid. The kids were never even introduced to the material in some
cases. And that is an issue. And I can't help
but think that maybe the politicizing of the government education system has
pushed certain agendas to the top of importance rather than core
competency. It's my opinion. Jerry writes about no kings. Bill, the phrase no king, but King Jesus, is a declaration of ultimate allegiance to
Jesus Christ, often used in a religious no-king.
And sometimes political context, it signifies that Jesus is the supreme authority above
any earthly ruler or power.
The phrase gained prominence during the American Revolution, serving as a battle cry against the perceived tyranny of King George III and
asserting the colonists loyalty to a higher power. Well, Jerry, if there's
one thing that our current government is probably not a big fan of is any kind of
authority to a higher power other than itself. Probably why they don't like people with
a religious point of view. A little tougher to control maybe I guess is where
you were getting at. All right. Betty writes me, Bill, today is the best day to
do nothing. Rest up, take a nap, enjoy. Oh you wrote that to me over the weekend.
Thank you Betty. That's exactly what I did. I appreciate the email, Bill, of BillMireShow.com.
Let me grab a couple of pebble in your shoe Tuesday calls. Good morning. Who's this?
Hey Bill, it's Lucretia.
Hi Lucretia. What's on your mind?
Oh, I just remembered that it was Ford, Carnegie,
Rockefeller and Rothschild that John Taylor Gadot said came into all the state and said,
we'll give you manufacturing if you'll dumb down your education. And I know other scientists
have said they they know the Russians know far more than us, you know, about
different things. Obviously they're trying to dumb us down. I think it was
Martin Borman that said they didn't want anybody to be able to count over a
hundred. They become their enemies.
And I think we have the same attitude.
I think that has been melded also with a corroded culture too, I would dare say.
We have way more distractions today.
I'm thinking about today, Lucretia, you and I, I don't know how old you are, it's impolite to even ask, all right?
But I'm in that neighborhood of, I wonder what I would have done, what it would have been like for me had I been distracted by social media, internet, and five second attention span kind of culture. I don't
know if I would have done as well as I did back then. I'm trying not to
blame people going through it. It's just kind of what it is, but we're not
allowed to say that's bad, are we?
You know, Bill, it's fascinating just listening to the
scientists about the children with autism, but also even the savants, one guy
could literally read two books at once, one with one eye, one with the other eye. And if you ask
them what was on page 156 and 52 or 400, he'd be able to tell you exactly what it said.
That's a really interesting skill. I don't know how useful it would be, but
where is your point going though on that? Well, it's interesting what they know about our brain and yet it's hidden.
Really what makes it work so effectively is the brain difference in the mind based on
we live many lives. Like Ford said, he was so smart because he lived many lives.
Ford said that he was so smart because he lived many lives. Ford said that?
Henry Ford?
Henry Ford.
No kidding.
Henry Ford was an interesting cat.
All right.
I appreciate your call.
Thank you for that, Lucretia.
Interesting way of looking at it.
We live many lives.
We can just have all that information, right?
Good morning.
This is Bill.
Hi.
Who's this?
Good morning, Bill. Hi, Tom.
So, yeah, and backing up Lucretia, there's Charlotte Iserby's work that the deliberate
dumbing down of America.
So that's something to, you know, the earlier callers wondered, gee, it almost seems like
it's deliberate.
Yeah, it's deliberate.
I wanted to talk a little bit about Ellen Musk
You know, he's come out and called the unit party the perky big party. He wants to start a third party and
There's there's something to that we know what Musk would be against I don't know if he has the wherewithal to be for
would be against. I don't know if he has the wherewithal to be for something that would be desirable, but I think he's right on target when he talks
about
the perky big party,
Republicans and Democrats, because you know, as long as we have a government
with unlimited money
that never has to balance the budget and so forth, it can borrow.
You know, you go back to John Maynard Keynes, his statement that inflation is theft and
it's a hidden tax and there's not one person in the thousand that is aware of that, but
that's our situation.
We have a porky pig government right now and it's basically gutted the middle class because it's taken all the money from
you know ordinary jobs and so forth and so on and funneled it through into this mega government
where we no longer have any choice or decision making.
Well that's an interesting distinction you're making here Tom because yeah you're right on the bottom end
You're making here Tom because yeah, you're right on the bottom end
Lots of benefits in lots of of aid given on the higher end
Many tax cuts and subsidies and I would dare say Elon Musk has been a big part, you know of that
But that what used to be called the middle class is is squeezed between these two interest groups overall
Yeah, yeah, we have endless wars and so forth and underground cities and Franken-skies and it goes on and on.
Where the money's going? Yeah, well I was gonna let you know, I read, I think it was
Brian, Byron King rather, a financial guy in the Daily Reckoning, I think is what
it is, where I was reading it this morning, and he was talking about the big beautiful bill, or the big porky big bill,
whatever you want to call it, right?
And he said, well, I don't know what's going to get passed.
He said, it's not going to get passed.
But the one thing I can assure you is that something which pleases the Wall Street Journal
crowd and the Washington Post crowd is almost guaranteed to go through.
I thought that was an interesting distinction that both sides of that coin are going to
get what they want good and hard.
Yeah, and so when you have a central government with this endless money supply, you don't
have a limited constitutional government because the
endless money is a mechanism for bypassing all the limitations of the
Constitution. You know, I'm getting flooded by in the mail petition letters
donate to our cause. I mean we're talking dozens of them. They say give us money
and we'll restore America, but none of not a single dozens of them. They say, give us money and we'll restore America.
But none of them, not a single one of them talks about the endless money supply. We'll never have...
As long as you have, and of course they can talk about a debt limit, but the debt limit is just a fiction, really.
Yeah, of course.
It will continue to go higher.
Even the big, beautiful, or the big porky spending bill, depending
on what you want to call it, Ben, another three, another four trillion, and wash, rinse,
repeat.
But this is kind of end empire kind of behavior when you have that kind of debt.
That's why people have been pulling their money out of the United States.
Will President Trump be able to reverse some of that and get
investment back in it? Don't know. I hope he does.
Yeah, that's a real good question. I like a lot of the things that Trump's doing,
but if he plows ahead with the digital dollar and the digital surveillance...
Yeah, that's a little bit iffy, but here's the deal though.
He wants cheap money. In fact, he would like 1% interest rates again, which of course is more of
the poison that poisoned us over the last, you know, decades. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Yeah, I know. Hey, I got to go at this point, Tom, but I appreciate you raising your issue there.
I think it's very important. It's 842. Hey, it's Bryce.

Leaders of the Greater Oregon Movement are disappointed the legislature didn't take up
two bills aimed at relocating Oregon's border, calling it a failure to listen to the people
of eastern Oregon.
The movement introduced bills in both the state house and senate requesting talks between Oregon and Idaho or a study of a potential
interstate compact. Neither bill received a hearing. Just before we go into the
4th of July weekend the Oregon Department of Forestry is raising the
fire danger to high and Josephine and Jackson counties. That'll affect nearly
2 million acres of private, county, state, and federal Bureau of Land
Management property across the two counties.

The popularity of Fontana Roofing's metal division cannot be overstated.
Well, at least it's exciting for those who get geeked by seeing metal being bent.
Okay, we'll see you soon.
We've got another contractor who wants a tour of the metal shop.
How can you blame them?
We're cranking out so much magical stuff, they want to peek behind the curtain.
The trick is to take it slow.
There's a lot to take in and you don't want to overwhelm them.
Yeah, they're like kids at the carnival.
Ooh, check out the gutter machine. Wow, look at all the colors and gauges they
have in inventory. There's so many profiles for roofing and siding. Holy cow,
look at that order of foundational flashing loaded on the trailer. Whew, and
now ladies and gentlemen, the grand finale, Fontana's mobile metal fabricator.
Ta-da!
Fontana Roofing is now providing guided tours of their metal shop.
Please make reservations early.
Bringing a sack lunch is recommended.

It's the Bill Meyer Show on KMED, Southern Oregon's place to talk.
It's 8.46.
Time for Open for Business.
We talk to locally owned and operated businesses and business people.
In this particular case, it's the Network in Action folks who are back.
We'll talk with Lisa McLeese Kelly here in just a little bit.
But I really wanted to put a little love on Angelica Owens.
I've been talking with her and she is a, now I'm going to try to pronounce this correctly,
portraitist.
Perfect.
Did I do that right?
Good job.
I'm glad I didn't have to go portraitist and list ball over this because all of my
headshots are like ancient history.
And I'm trying to get to the point where I don't have my bad hairstyles and my glasses
from 15 years ago out there on the website.
Now portraits, you do strictly portraits, right?
Correct, yes.
And tell me a little bit about your business if people are looking for this because I need
it.
And you get to a point where, come on, people, stop doing selfies.
All right. You're not a photographer. All right. But you know.
I agree. Yeah. Selfies can be good, but it's not really always the best way to capture.
Sometimes being able to see yourself through somebody else's eyes is where you can really see
yourself shine. Yeah. As you mentioned, portraitist, portrait photographer, I only shoot people. So I
usually try to differentiate that between traditional photography, which is a little bit more broad. I've studied
for decades in the art of creating portraits. I started off as a pencil portrait artist
and then eventually moved into cameras. And so a portrait is really meant to capture a
facet of your character. So I really work well with my clients to bring out the best
in them to capture an authentic portrait that really looks like them so they feel comfortable and confident putting that
into their marketing and having that represent them.
We make split second decisions seeing somebody online, so having an authentic and genuine
representation of yourself is really important in today's digital society.
Okay, so your job, if you were to do a portrait of me, would be to make me not grumpy from
being tired or something like that. Exactly, yes. Capture that twinkle in your eye. Capture that real smile, not that like eighth grade school photo smile.
Yeah, even though at 5 30 in the morning is kind of like, oh gosh, what am I doing this for?
Downing the coffee, that kind of thing, right? Absolutely. Actually you have a special coming up on that, right?
I do, yes. Once a month I hold a headshot marathon this is includes hair and makeup or have an option without
hair and makeup multiple outfit changes usually the session takes about with if
the hair and makeup is included about two hours all together where guide you through
the whole process we go through a few different outfit looks and then we sit
down and we review the images right there so you pick out the very best ones
and then I get those retouched and delivered to you within seven days. So you get them really quick.
Oh, retouched?
Yes.
Excellent. You see, Angelica is my friend already if I can get a retouch because everything
I have has nothing done with it. But anyway, yeah, it can really help people. Can people
help with their self-perception and also helping their business too?
Absolutely. Yeah. People usually describe it as a confidence boost and they get portraits
as a confidence boost and they get portraits as a souvenir
Wow, I can look like this too. Okay
Now then how do people get a hold of you through my website Angelica?
Owens calm you'll see the link on the website for my headshot special. The next one is next Monday the 7th
It is almost sold out. I have a couple spots left
But I do run them usually one to two times per month
So if that date is full then another one will be posted as soon as it's full.
Very good.
How has that being a network in action helped you here?
I'm kind of curious.
Oh, it's great.
I mean, it's great to diversify your network, make new connections.
I've had several folks from NIA come in and get their headshots done, and I just posted
one on Facebook the other day from a recent headshot session, and he left me a really
wonderful Google review, so I shared that, and it was really sweet of him.
But yeah, it's a wonderful community, and it's great to be connected with business owners
who need to represent their brand.
All right, there we go.
Yeah, and like I said, I'm in desperate need of new headshots if you've looked at any of
my web work, you know, okay.
Angelica Owens, portraitist, and once again, your website.
Angelicaowens.com
All right, hey, that's simple enough.
Yes.
All right, very good. Appreciate that. Lisa MacLeese- that's simple enough. Yeah. Alright, very good. Appreciate
that. Lisa MacLeese Kelly is also in here too, of course. You are the, I guess, how
do we refer to you then with Network in Action? You are the mom? Actually, yeah, I'm kind
of the mama bear. I get very protective of my people. Yeah. Yeah, Network in Action and
explain what Network in Action is all about, what you have coming up here that people might
be interested in, and why they would want their business in this.
So we're a group of business owners or high level professionals that get together once
a month.
It is not your typical networking group.
We actually go a little bit deeper in some meetings.
In some meetings it's business coaching sort of.
Some people call it business therapy.
Of course there's a little bit of networking every time. I ask them to do one-to-ones with each other, but we're building deeper
relationships faster because I'm not just going to refer Angelica because she's a portraitist.
I'm going to refer her because I know who she is as a person. I know how she treats
people. I know how she's going to take care of my clients because I know who she is.
I've had deeper conversations with her.
That's what we're trying to establish while we're trying to help them grow who they are
as a business professional, who they are as an individual, and of course then grow their
business.
But you have to have those other two to really be successful in small business.
And the point of being a network and action group is that it's like as an example, Angelica
would be
the only portraitist or portrait photographer, however you want to put it, in that group,
right?
You're not competing within your individual groups, right?
Correct.
Yes.
Okay.
And so how many groups do you have right now in Southern Oregon?
We have three.
We have a traditional Medford group, a traditional Grants Pass group, and a Christian group that
meets in Medford.
What are you looking at?
What type of a business person are you looking at besides just an entrepreneur?
Is there a special kind of ethos that is appropriate for network and action?
Yes.
I think in the last six months I've probably turned down 20 people.
You turned them down?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
It doesn't mean that they're not good.
People are not good entrepreneurs, but sometimes they're not at the level that we need them
to be in order to join the group.
Some people that are just starting out that have already a background in that industry
or have a background in business, another kind of business that they've had, they might
be a good fit.
But if it's somebody that's just coming into something and their brand's spanking new,
we're probably going to be a little bit over their head.
And they don't even know what they don't know at that point.
And you know, I don't know what I don't know and I've been in business for 21 years.
But recently I interviewed a realtor and she's new.
She's smart.
She knows what she's doing.
She's got self-confidence, totally
appropriate.
So it's just, and I like to say three years or more, but sometimes, like with this realtor,
she's totally appropriate for this.
But for the most part, you're looking at some people who already have a little bit of built-in
heft in their field.
Yes, and they have confidence and they can bring value to the group.
Okay, all right, very good.
How can they get in touch with
you and what does it take to actually become a member? So become a member, you just sit down and
have a one-to-one with me and we just talk about whether or not it's a good fit. So if I don't
think I can bring value to them, I'm not going to ask them to be in the group, right? Because there's
no sense taking their money and then not bringing value to them. It's not about just taking the money
and hey you're part of this and you still
fail.
Right.
That kind of thing.
But I've sent them to other places.
I've got contacts in the SBDC and other people that can help them get to where they need
to be, to where that they can join the group.
And that's my goal.
You know, I think what's really going to be interesting is that proper type of networking
is probably going to be even more important as we're looking
at more of a...
So much of the business world seems to have been big boxed and commodified and artificial
intelligents out of the human nature.
Is this kind of a reaction to that almost?
Well, I truly believe that we have to support each other as small businesses.
Back in 2016, Gallup did a study that shows that people who are unhappy at work are unhappy
in every other part of their life.
If I can help business owners be good stewards of the people who have been placed in their
care, if I can help them be successful, it affects every other part of our life.
It affects whether or not they are alcohol, drugs, cancer, heart
attacks, child abuse, divorce. Every other part of their life is affected about that
40 plus hours that they're spending. Right? So how can we make that better so that we
can affect every other part of the community?
And maybe we can get the next Dutch Bros built here too.
Absolutely.
You never know where it's going to go at this point. How can they join?
Just find me on SOnetworking.com and then give me a shout and we'll go out and have a cup of coffee.
All right, very good. Any events coming up that people should know about before I cut you loose?
Not yet. Nope. Okay, all right, sometimes you do. Yep. Because I know Angelica is doing an event next
Monday. Okay. Yeah. I have to talk with you about that. She is. Next Monday, okay? Yep.
I have to talk with you about that, all right?
Hang on just a minute here.

Hi this is Mark from Jay Austin and I'm on KMED.
Day 58.
You know Dave was just calling me Dave, you know, Minor Dave from the Iron Gate.
He was kind of concerned that he thought that there was a bit of a fire that could have
been started there in Northern California he's not knowing about.
I'm going to kind of take a look on that.
I'll share any on social media, maybe check with Mr. Outdoors about that and maybe see
if anything happened.
I only had just a little bit of rain in my neck of the woods later, okay?
We'll talk more about that on Wheels Up Wednesday.
Eric Peters will be joining me.
