Starting point is 00:00:00 The Bill Myers Show podcast is sponsored by Clouser Drilling. They've been leading the way in southern Oregon well drilling for over 50 years. Find out more about them at www.clouserdrilling.com. 770-5633, whatever happens to be on your mind. And before I get to the cause here. We had one guy arrested allegedly for firing a gun, Fourth of July evening, Independence Day evening, near a group of kids setting off fireworks. Name? 51 year old Jason Stump. He apparently upset with a group of roughly 10 kids lighting fireworks off
Starting point is 00:00:34 in front of his house. Member of police say it's what when he stepped out on his balcony fired gunshots to scare the kids away. I'm thinking of that old movie, He Chose Poorly. Of course, this is allegedly, but it says he chose poorly. And so they did a search warrant and arrested him. Unlawful use of a weapon disorderly conduct there. And, you know, the one thing is, is, I mean, who hasn't wanted to do something like that? And, you know, you go back a few decades or something, you know, someone firing a shot by a bunch of people causing trouble, I don't know. But no, you can't do that now because we are much more civilized people these days. Like deplorable Patrick. Hello, Patrick. Welcome to the show. Good to have you on.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Too bad you can't take back a gunshot. No, no you can't. You got to be careful about such things. All right? Press down. Well, hey, there's something I've been wanting to ask you about for quite a while, and you know a lot of stuff, so you can probably help me guess my way through this. What is it?
Starting point is 00:01:41 I watch a lot of videos on YouTube to learn stuff and especially about these airplanes and just a lot of different subjects. What is the attraction with these silly videos of having a computer voice? Why can't they just narrate the video? Why do they have to stupefy it with a computer that muffs words and, you know, like if there's a dash in there, it will turn it into a pause, which is very unnatural. They even, for instance, they're talking about these Boeing 787s, and if somebody types this this out it'll be 787 with an S for a plural, but the computer voice pronounced it as a 787S. There is no such thing as a 787S. What you have discovered or what you've run into is the free voiceover. And it used to be that
Starting point is 00:02:48 people were going to produce a video, you hired a professional voiceover if you yourself were not good enough to be able to narrate it yourself. I think part of it is also laziness though, Patrick, because I think all you have to do is put the script out. I've never used AI to generate voiceovers. I'm quite capable of my own, you know, that kind of thing. But I think that's that's what's going on. And it's easy. And yet some of it gets downright comical, like you had mentioned. And I was watching a video, I don't know if it's Facebook or YouTube, but
Starting point is 00:03:24 in which it was World War Two spelled WWII and that's what they said. That's what the AI voice said, WWII. So a failing of, well not particularly intelligence once again, it's kind of like what, what was his name, Paul Stark that I talked to earlier? No, Paul List, That's who I talked to a little earlier this morning about AI. He says we're talking about mathematics, essentially, mathematics and pattern recognition. But yeah, that's what's going on right now. You see a lot of it. And it's like it's the same voice. It's like everybody's using the same two or
Starting point is 00:03:58 three voices. They have a voice print that they use and then they say I guess they can type out the script and What's so comical and I would find if I was putting out videos I would find this unacceptable But they'll they'll have they'd be going along pretty good with a sentence and then right in the middle. There'll be like a foreign word or some non word that's yeah there another one I find irritating is when someone will take a clip out of a movie, someone will clip a scene out of a movie, and they'll act the voiceover, the artificial voiceover will say something like, the man is polishing his boots and waiting for the troops to show up here, but he stops them, you know, doing these kind of things. It's like, it's a movie! It's not even real! But they're acting as if it's real!
Starting point is 00:04:52 And maybe some people think it is real. I guess this is, maybe what we're talking about here, Patrick, is artificial intelligence is going to be like, what was that famous saying? No one's ever proven that he said it though, but a guy from the CIA said that we'll know that our job has been completed when everything Americans think is true is total falsehoods, or like BS, that kind of thing. I think they're trying to get us to disconnect from reality. I will tell you for sure. I've watched several videos on this 787 crash in India. By the way, I have not. Could you give me a take?
Starting point is 00:05:34 Have they found out anything more about it? Because it was very tragic. It went down within just a few seconds of takeoff there, really. There are several different theories, and I couldn't recite all of them but when I watch that video that that thing starts to climb out normally and then it sort of settles back and it looks to me like it's got partial power because it doesn't just, it settles slowly like they've got like, I don't know, 10% or 20% power. There is one shameful possibility. There's a forward lavatory
Starting point is 00:06:20 on I think the right side that they've discovered that the people that work at Boeing, those highly paid technicians, can't even do plumbing right. And the faucet leaks, the water goes down through the floor into the electronics bay, and causes trouble. Oh boy, if that ends up being the cause of that crash, that's not good. That's stupid, And they could have done something about it. They could have said, okay, we're closing this laboratory until we figure out how to do plumbing. Could it be something like what happened with the Ford Pinto? Some people of a certain age, I mean, I drove a 71 Ford Pinto in high school back in my teenage year, right?
Starting point is 00:07:06 Ford Pinto in high school back in my teenage year. And remember, what was it the cost to have actually done the gas tank filler properly was like two or three dollars from what I understand. Two or three dollars. But there was like an evaluation being made, a cost versus benefit that they thought it would be better just to, instead of re-engineering the car or doing a recall just like well we'll pay people as they die I guess I don't know if that's exactly... Pay the lawsuits. Yeah, pay the lawsuits.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Yeah that sort of thing. Maybe that's what they're doing with Boeing. I don't know. Boeing has lost its way. I won't miss it if they're gone and I love airplanes. I was to tell you though this is back to what we're talking about before, I've watched many of these videos about the 787 crash in India, and one of them, they keep showing these investigators walking around looking at stuff, and right there in the middle, broad daylight in front of everybody, they show an airplane, the crashed airplane, the propeller.
Starting point is 00:08:05 they show an airplane, the crashed airplane with propeller. Like an old DC-3 or something. There is so much fakeness to the online world, and if there's anything I can suggest to people, be very discerning. Very discerning. Well, I'll give you an example. This was something that was, that Lindy was saying, oh, I can't believe this. Someone was saying that the royal family, someone was actually putting this out as if it was true, that the royal family in England had contributed 50 million dollars into a fund for the victims of the flooding in Texas.
Starting point is 00:08:39 It's like, come on! And everyone's going, oh that's great, it's so wonderful. It's nonsense here, Patrick. Avoid the nonsense. What do you say? I'm trying to avoid it. It's pretty upsetting. I know. Thank you for the call. 770-5633-770KMED. Speaking of the nonsense, Speaking of the nonsense, what is your overall take on the situation with the memo that was released and being talked about from Axios yesterday? And I ended up sharing a little bit of this, just the basics of it online. And what we're finding out here is that we're getting the FBI, the DOJ, Patel, D'Ambongino, everybody else, and they're saying that no client list, nothing to see, move along, Epstein killed himself. Is this the Trump administration playing 15-dimensional chess? Something else going on? Or maybe is a cigar just a cigar? Do you have an
Starting point is 00:09:52 opinion on this? 7705633, I'd love to talk with you about that or anything else on your mind. It's Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. I just remember just a few weeks ago, maybe more than a few weeks ago, but a few months ago, Pam Bondi saying, I've got the files on my desk. I've got the files on my desk and you know, we just need to redact them, et cetera, et cetera, edit them and then release them. And now? Nothing?

Pure enjoyment. But relaxing on a TimberTech deck allows you something that other decks can't match. A look that is stunningly like real wood. The beauty found in nature is found in every TimberTech deck.
Starting point is 00:11:07 And to those with the best looking, best performing decks, enjoy! TimberTech, go against the grain. Hugh's Lumber TimberTech Sale is going on now. Don't miss out. What's a real sale? If it's a handful of pieces marked down and stuck in the corner, it's not a real sale. If it comes with an asterisk and a looping list of exclusions, it's not a real sale. If it's a handful of pieces marked down and stuck in the corner, it's not a real sale. If it comes with an asterisk and a looping list of exclusions, it's not a real sale. But if it's Garrison's semi-annual sale, it's the real deal with five years, interest refinancing, OAC, and
Starting point is 00:11:36 up to 60% off at all Garrison's locations. A legit sale with genuine savings? What a groundbreaking concept. The semi-annual sale happening now at Garrison's Home, Sleep, Express, and Outlet, garrisons.com. Isn't it wonderful that we're keeping criminals out of our country? With our border now secure. I worry for people of color. The deportation process is under scrutiny.
Starting point is 00:11:58 How the mayors in these sanctuary jurisdictions are dealing with it, that's interesting. It absolutely puts their lives and their family lives in danger. How will resistance be resolved? Democrats will never win a national election again. and News Talk 1063 KMED. This is the Bill Meyers Show. Whether you're in your car or in your home or wherever you happen to be I'm glad you're here on Pebble in your Shoe Tuesday. And what's ever on your mind? Dangerous time I know. Anne's the horse lady. Hello Anne. How are you? Good morning William. Good morning Anne. I would like to tell you I came around long before computers. I've got 20 years on you,
Starting point is 00:12:48 so I'm older than dirt. And when computers came out, the common saying during that time was garbage in, garbage out. And the computer was basically just information. It wasn't anything else. Now we've got AI and I am scared to death because we have a whole generation or two of young people who aren't well educated and they're a bunch of nitwits, as far as I'm concerned, and they don't understand that AI is so dangerous. Well, what do you think is dangerous about it? I don't want to be careful not to throw out babies with bathwater, but what is it specifically about AI that concerns you most? Information in, information out. What if you've got a doctor with a scalpel in his hand and he's
Starting point is 00:13:58 doing AI for an operation and the AI says you cut, and he cuts and he loses the patient because they bleed to death. Who do they sue? Yeah, they don't. And there's no recompense for it. And it's, as far as I'm concerned, AI is, it's a false sense. And computers were, when they came out, were never like that. It was information. It was basically information. And now AI is getting so popular and
Starting point is 00:14:33 everybody wants to use it. It's the new shiny thing on the block. So I'm just scared of it. All right. Anne, I appreciate your call. Thank you for joining on. It's a big pebble in Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. Paul is in Williams. Good morning, Paul. What is on your mind about the warning shot? We're talking about that Medford guy. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Our great firearms instructor, Joe Biden, tells us how to handle a burglar or an intruder by walking out on the porch, first off exposing yourself to let him know where you are, and then empty your gun in the air, right, two shots, and you have to take completely out of battery to reload it. And you don't know where the pellets are going to fall, break in windshields and so on. So our great leader has told us how to deal with the warning shots. So the Medford resident that was popped for the kids
Starting point is 00:15:25 probably took his firearm safety instructions from Joe Biden. Wow. Yeah, yeah. So I just wanted to mention that. So he's gone now. So thank God we've got somebody that knows what they're doing. Appreciate the call. Thank you, Paul. 770-5633. It's Open Phones on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. Go all sorts of different directions. Hi, good morning. It's open phones on Pebble in Your Shoe Tuesday. Go all sorts of different directions. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Hey Bill, it's your friend Brad. Good morning to you, you hard-working electronics expert. I don't know about an expert, but I can get myself in trouble sometimes. Yeah, yeah. Well, you know a lot of stuff. Hey, I got a question for you. So everybody knows, you know, they got the big beautiful bill passed and then there was
Starting point is 00:16:06 legislation that defunded Planned Parenthood for about half a billion dollars for one year. And my question is, if you know it, how much of Planned Parenthood's budget actually gets turned into political donations? In other words, supposedly abortion is somehow women's health and they get all this money, but how much of that money do they turn into political contributions if you know the answer to that? Well, let's see, now I want to make sure that... are you talking about how much taxpayer money going into Planned Parenthood ends up being reformulated? Is
Starting point is 00:16:46 that kind of where you're going? Well, I'm not exactly sure how much of their gross budget, but I'm just looking at a thing it's called OpenSecrets.org, and they claim that Planned Parenthood gave $569,374 to federal candidates in the 2023-24 cycle. That sounds like a lot of money to me. Boy, that doesn't sound right. Let's see. Because according to open secrets here, I'm looking at another one here. Let's see. Lobbying. The amount of money spent on lobbying. And I would think this would be what you're thinking about, lobbying to keep, you know, to keep, you got to keep the baby killing up, right? You know, that kind of thing. It was a little over a million dollars in 2024, 1.4 million in 2023. Now as far as contributions, you know, there are a bunch
Starting point is 00:17:53 of...it's hard for me to say about this. It almost takes a little more work on this to get...because people will actually contribute to Planned Parenthood too. It's not just taxpayer money going into that. There are people who actually consider it a wonderful organization doing God's work. And so they get a lot of money. But at least a million dollars a year in lobbying. Well, I think what got cut out in the budget was about 500 million for one year.
Starting point is 00:18:32 And again, that's just federal funding. And you're right, they have other income streams. And I do not claim to be an expert on this organization, but I just thought, you know, if it does turn out to be the case that a large amount of the money that they get through their income streams gets turned into political contributions, they're actually more of a super PAC than they are anything else, aren't they?
Starting point is 00:18:54 Yeah, if you can actually connect that, you know, taxpayer funding is going into the ended up being transformed or, you know, kind of like through some political alchemy, turned into a contribution. Well, for instance, according to a PBS article dated June 24th in 2024, it said Planned Parenthood will spend $40 million ahead of November's elections to bolster President Joe Biden and leading Congressional Democrats. Yeah, okay. I think that has to do with the contributions coming to Planned Parenthood, but most likely not the direct taxpayer funding. There are enough people, there are enough people, I think, Brad, that think that Planned Parenthood is just, like I said,
Starting point is 00:19:42 doing God's work. And they believe in that, and so they just give the money for that purpose. Okay. Yeah. Now, the Planned Parenthood provision in Trump's big, beautiful bill, by the way, has been put on hold. It's been barred from revoking the Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, partially freezing a provision of that. So that happened yesterday, just so you know. So my question is, if it's true, and of course we don't know it's true, but if it's true that tens or even a couple hundred million dollars of Planned Parenthood's revenue streams are going away and that money is no longer available for political contributions, that sounds like that might be problematic for the next election cycle.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Yes, it could be. Or it may make them even stronger. Strike them down and you will have even more people wanting to continue God's work. Strike them down and you know a child is being born. We have to do something about that. Plan Parenthood, contribute today. That kind of thing. All right? Oh Bill. Oh Bill. I know. I'm sorry I'm being a sarcastic. I can't help myself. Thank you Brad. Let me go to the next line. Hi it's Pebble and You're Shoo Tuesday. This is Bill. Who's this? Hello? Me? Yeah, it's you. Good morning. Okay. Hey, Bill. Bob Hayworth calling. Hi, Bob. Welcome.
Starting point is 00:21:11 I'm calling about the radio commercials that run on your program. And believe me, it's great to be entertained when we listen to the radio. And the people for the rifting company are world class. I'm glad you enjoyed that. I want to compliment you on that. I guess my pebble is over, but last week I was running around the house, waving my arms, singing, You're going to love what you find and find what you love. Oh, that thing is an ear- isn't that thing an earwig? It's horrible. Oh my gosh. Yeah. It got into my head and I couldn't get rid of it. Yeah. A total wine and more. You saved so much and won't be bored. You know,
Starting point is 00:21:56 whatever. Yeah. And we don't even have a total wine and more around here. Yeah, I don't know where they are, but it was one of those things where you get a tune in your head and you can't get rid of it. Yeah, I think someone, and it sounded like an AI vocal. You think that was AI? It sounded AI-ish to me, I wonder. It could be. I don't understand AI well enough to discern that,
Starting point is 00:22:22 but it could be. But it was a disclaimer at the end of the commercial that really got me, and they said, drink responsibly, and I do, and be 21. I wish. Let me give you a real American salute on that one, Bob. I love that. Take care, Bob. All right. I like that. Hi, good morning. Who's this? Welcome. This is Miner Dave. Hi Dave, how are you? I'm pretty good. I just wanted to say is I live off the grid so I didn't run out
Starting point is 00:22:56 of power because I was one solar panel and two batteries. Good for you. I can charge my phone and stuff. But I wanted to say is the Department of Agriculture just announced there will be no amnesty under the big new beautiful bill that if you want to keep your health insurance and your able body you can go to work in the agricultural department if you live in a rural area or you can get Pell grants to go to school or get a 20-hour a week job and keep your health insurance. Now just when it comes to the agricultural world though there is talk that there is a bill being readied in Congress right now. The number of it is I forget but this one has to do with keeping the agricultural workers here.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Some may call it a form of amnesty or something, but they are working on that, but it's not in the big beautiful bill. No, but what I'm saying is Trump will veto it because he's gotten so much feedback from people like me writing him saying, getting so much feedback from people like me writing and saying, no, you can't give them this, Steve. Reagan did that once and it didn't work. Okay. Thanks, Dave. 770-5633. I'll take one more call. Hi. Good morning. Who's this?
Starting point is 00:24:15 Hi, it's Gino. Hi, Gino. Good morning. Good morning. If you'll allow me, I'd like to read two paragraphs from Jefferson's notes on the state of Virginia. Jefferson, okay, so now are we going to be able to understand it because you know Jefferson writing in the 1700s, you know... Yes, you will. Okay, good. Okay, many will come to the United States as refugees escaping from tyranny, but tyranny will have
Starting point is 00:24:43 shaped their ideas about politics. They are unlikely to have learned either how to live peaceably or respect the rights of others or how to be vigilant in the assertion and defense of their own rights. They are unlikely to even have a clear idea of the meaning and the contents of rights themselves. Admitting persons who are not prepared poses a fundamental problem for the American experiment. They will bring with them the principles of government they leave behind and bide in early use, or if they're
Starting point is 00:25:14 able to throw them off, will be exchanged for unbounded licentiousness, passing as usual from one extreme to another. It would be a miracle if they could stop at the temperate liberty. In other words, let me translate. You admit the third world from third world hellholes, you get a third world hellhole citizenry, even if it is the United States. And that's what the Democrat mayors have been preparing, is hellhole cities where the immigrants will feel comfortable. That's sarcasm if you didn't notice. Yeah, let me give you a real American salute on that one, Gino, because once again, it is appropriate, alright?
Starting point is 00:25:55 Thank you. It is 20 before 9 on KMED. This is the Millmeyer Show. So, you're a batteries plus go-to guy. Can you replace the battery in my smartphone? Yes. No, I mean we literally can have them covered with gutter covers. Oh, you're right. We need to tell people that they don't have to call those 1-800 numbers for gutter protection from leaves and debris. They can just call Fontana Roofing to get a quote on gutter covers from a trusted local contractor.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Yeah, since we've done the research and now install an industry-leading brand, we need a commercial that's informative but clever and quirky. Let's mull this over. Indeed. And you always got some great buys don't you Charisse? Welcome back. Good morning everybody.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Good morning. What's happening? I'm just here trying to save people money, provide you really good service. You know, we help people lower their internet, TV, cell phone bills. I have people walking in the store going, I've heard you a thousand times on the Bill Maier show and I'm finally here. And I'm like, yay. Well, I could have saved you 10,000. Yeah, well don't wait until it's a thousand
Starting point is 00:30:53 and one times you heard it, okay? But here's the deal. The point being is, I have to tell you, I'm really pleased with having switched my cell phone service around. You ended up persuading me for the last couple of years and finally said, okay, all right. I'm tired of not having a reception where I go. And so you got me on the Spectrum plan. And who actually provides the wireless? It's like a partnership with Spectrum, right?
Starting point is 00:31:18 Well, it's Verizon. We use Verizon Towers. They're the best. Okay. All right. I had a customer that came in, heard me on the radio, and he had gone to Costco. He got four new phones is what he was told and his bill was gonna be like, you know, blah blah blah. And then his phone doesn't even work in Costco. It doesn't work, he said, at his house. But you see, that was my problem too. And I just got tired of this. It's like I have a really nice cell phone. Well, of course, I know it's a three-year-old cell phone, which of course makes it an ancient
Starting point is 00:31:50 piece of garbage, I guess, these days. But you know, I can get you a new phone when you're ready, Bill. Just let me know. I'll get you a new phone and I'll transfer all your stuff over. Yeah, but 60 bucks is, it'd be like $30 a month per line. And for the first year, it was free. Now, is, and for the first year it was free. Now, is that free for the first year for two lines still going on? Yeah, so you get one line free for 12 months, and then each line after that's only $30.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Unlimited text and data on the Verizon network, and $30 for each additional line after that. Hey Chuck, it was this week in American history. It was actually yesterday, July 7th, 1775. The United States launches the Quasi-War with France, the first war we had since the Revolution. So Congress rescinds treaties with France starts two and a half years called the Quasi-War,
Starting point is 00:38:14 our former friend at that time, right? President John Adams and Benjamin Stoddard, Secretary of the Navy, led this undeclared war triggered by France seizing more than 300 American merchant ships during the French Revolution. And the United States had been pursuing a more pro-British foreign policy too, and that also infuriated them. You know, they're going, Sacre bleu, we gave you all sorts of money for la revolution. And then you do this, right? Anyway, some Americans wanted to mobilize the army in fearing of a French invasion, but Adams said, at present, no more prospect of seeing a French army here than there is in heaven. So Adams deployed the Navy to confront the
Starting point is 00:38:55 Frenchies. He turned to former President George Washington for his military expertise, and then reinstalled Washington as commander-in-chief. So my question for the win this morning Chuck, how long did the quasi war last? Was it A three weeks, B three months, C nine months, D 18 months, or was it E a whole whopping 30 months? What do you say? I'll say 30 months. 30 months! You're going with the biggest one and yeah, you win! Yeah! It is not very often. The person who gets in first wins it, but yeah, it did.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Quasi-War took place mostly in the West Indies, but some US Navy frigates also sailed to the Far East. And on February 3rd, 1801, the Treaty of France, signed in September 1800, was ratified, ending the Quasi-War after two and a half years. And then we started being friendly to the French again, and they kind of calmed down. I think they ended up sending us the Statue of Liberty a few decades later, so I guess all's forgiven. All right. So anyway, let's send you to Diner 62. Hang on. We're going to have fun, all right? All right, Bill. Thank you. All right. We're definitely gonna be late to the concert.
