Now, we've had a lot to say about how the state of Oregon tends to embrace completely as a state religion. the island of misfit humans agendas. LGBTQ2 spirit, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:00:33 It's like 63 of them or whatever. It's too hard to keep up on it. But, you know, actually, Minnesota is more Oregon than even Oregon is at this point. I wanted to talk with Paul Runco about this. He's the senior director of Strategic Initiatives at Defending Education, DefendingEd.org. Paul, it's a pleasure having you back. Morning. Hi, Bill. Thanks for having me. All right.
Starting point is 00:00:56 So Minnesota had planned to roll out these, well, what they were calling my gender dolls. And obviously yet another aspect of the gender affirming care agenda, you know, as it were, in which it's like a Mr. Potato Head type doll, right, with various anatomical parts. And you're supposed to give it to your little kid. And then the little kid's able to explore his or her. Of course, his or her, that's making a judgment call. I'm not a biologist. I don't know if I'm allowed to say that, his or her.
Starting point is 00:01:28 But anyway, giving the dolls to the child unit, and then they get to explore their gender identity. Isn't that the case? Can you tell us a bit about this story? It's fascinating, really. Yeah, so depending on education, we talked to parents in Minnesota this week, and there were several reports online
Starting point is 00:01:46 that many of your listeners have probably seen about a program out of the University of Minnesota called My Gender Dolls. And they say that they're for children, four to 10 years old, you know, so elementary school-age children. And they feature, you know, removable and interchangeable body parts, including, you know, genitalia, to use in discussions about sex and gender. And so the parents were concerned that these dolls would be used in schools and that they had not been notified if that was the case or given an opportunity to opt out,
Starting point is 00:02:18 which is their right under federal law. All right. Out of curiosity, are the my-jerkens, gender dolls part of a federal grant stream funding deal? Because, you know, so many of these weird agendas that pop out in the, in the state university systems, tend to come from some kind of grant, some kind of DEI grant, some sort of agenda. Do you know, or is this what the Department of Justice is in the process of figuring out? Yeah, this is one of the biggest questions around in this story, where the funding from this comes from. And so that is one of the things that we hope that the Department of Education and the Department of Justice look into because I think, I mean, really no matter where the funding is coming from, I don't believe that these dolls have really
Starting point is 00:03:04 any place in schools. They absolutely and obviously push a certain agenda on gender identity, but it would also be nice if some sort of public funding was used either directly or indirectly to support this program. I think the public deserves to know. All right. What is the issue in play here as far as parents? Because you filed the federal complaint, didn't you? You're the one that did this? Or did you file one of many complaints about this? Yeah, no, we filed a earlier this week. We filed a privacy complaint with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of some Minnesota parents. And it really is a parental rights complaint. The biggest question in this particular case that needs to be investigated is if there is a program or materials that involve gender identity for school children, parents then need to be informed and notified and given a clear opt-out process. under federal law, parents have the right to know what's happening with their child at school, especially on these sensitive topics like sex, gender, and mental health. And so we're really asking that the Federal Department of Education be looked at this stuff,
Starting point is 00:04:19 because the reports are really concerning. And if you see some of the images of these dolls, I mean, I think it's right for every parent to question whether this might appear in their school or not. Yeah, I'm just kind of curious, because I figure if it happens in Minnesota, it would then leak out to Oregon at some point, because they're all kind of federal, you know, fellow travelers in this very interesting agenda. I say interesting and scary air quotes. And the other thing is that Oregon Health and Sciences University, the teaching hospital up in the Portland area, makes big money on performing these gender transition changes. So it all seems to be, you know, part of the same push. I'm kind of curious with, you know, defending Ed.
Starting point is 00:05:00 What do you think of initially drove this? because we've always had people suffering from gender dysphoria. It's usually something that most people work through. There are a few adults that have problems, and then they would go out and do the surgery, but it was not just a big deal. And now it appears that it has just turned into a full-scale, especially government school contagion, in which this is the one way that children today can stand out and be special.
Starting point is 00:05:26 You know, to all of a sudden, I'm in the wrong body, that kind of thing. Am I wrong? in my assumptions about this? It definitely seems, at least from what we're hearing from parents, that many more children that attend, particularly public school, are identifying as either the opposite, you know, gender or no gender or, you know, maybe even something else. So it definitely seems that there's some sort of social contagion happening with this issue. And unfortunately, I think part of the reason is just this was hidden for so long and these
Starting point is 00:06:01 topics were talked about in classrooms all over the country without parents knowing. So the progressive school teachers were doing it anyway. I just want to make sure I understand here that what you just said, the progressive school teachers were just doing this anyway before? I think it's a lot of different areas. Certainly there were some bad teachers. I won't say that a majority of teachers probably don't believe this type of stuff anyway, but there's, you know, outside influences like the teachers' unions, there's groups that start, you know, the gender sexuality alliance, clubs and schools that push all of this.
Starting point is 00:06:40 And so there's many different influences that have this take place in schools. Now, this taxpayer-funded program was supported by Governor Tim Walls. Of course, everybody knows about Tim, right? And it said it was intended to help children explore gender identity through what they called therapeutic play. Now, my question is therapeutic play, or is this agenda grooming or possibly grooming or actually conditioning to think about something that maybe you didn't even consider before? Yeah, to be clear, again, that the funding aspect is still being uncovered and we're not quite sure what the funding source was for this. But yeah, if you go to the website of these my gender dolls, it's very clear
Starting point is 00:07:23 that this is meant to, you know, they say it's for trans and gendered. diverse children. And so this is obviously pushing an agenda where they're hoping that by, I mean, they're dolls too. So they're meant for their children, right? Children play with dolls. Adults don't play with dolls. And so they're hoping to introduce children to this idea that not only can you change your clothes or change your hairstyle to maybe look like the opposite sex, but you can also potentially change your body parts, which is, you know, something. that I think a lot of parents, even parents who might support things like LGBTQ plus issues, at least want to be informed that their child would be playing with one of these and be a part
Starting point is 00:08:09 of the conversation of when and if and how these are deployed. Yeah, I would be curious as to why this would be considered part of the educational process in the first place, wouldn't you? Absolutely, and it's interesting because the images of these dolls have been put on, you know, TV stations and online, and the social media sites and the television stations have to blur these images because they're not appropriate for showing, you know, to the general public. Oh, so it is perfectly okay to have the my gender dolls with the detachable painter or whatever
Starting point is 00:08:43 else, all the other private parts, but you can give it to the kid, but you can't show it on television, huh? Right, exactly. Okay. Oh, man, I got to tell you, childhood has changed a lot. lot from, from me in the 1960s, my friend. I've got to tell you, Paul, that's pretty wild stuff. What is your ask in this investigation, though, because you ended up filing that federal complaint defending education? Yeah, I think that we really want to make sure that federal
Starting point is 00:09:11 law is being followed. You know, we saw these concerning stories. Parents, we talked to parents in Minnesota, they're concerned, and we want to make sure that, you know, even if these my gender dolls end up in schools that parents know if and when and how these are being given to students. Their rights under federal law, so the protection of People Rights Amendment gives them the opportunity to not only be notified about these programs, allow inspection of these materials, but schools also must provide an opt-out. And the Supreme Court had an amazing decision last summer in Mahmood versus Taylor saying parents can opt out of these LGBTQ plus materials of school in every state, you know, especially, you know, including Oregon.
Starting point is 00:09:59 So even if this investigation takes a while or includes saying there was, you know, everything was fine, parents still have the opportunity to opt out across the country if they see these in their schools. I guess my question is, Paul, why should a parent have to opt? out of the my gender LGBTQ dolls, you know, for kids, because what does this have to do with learning how to be an educated young child? You're 100% right. We would argue that these my gender dolls are not really meant for schools. It's the job of parents to have these conversations with their children. But also they have, you know, there's no proof that these have any way, shape, or form, improve academic excellence in schools, which is really what schools are supposed to be about, right?
Starting point is 00:10:49 Teaching kids how to do reading, writing, and math, not how to change their gender. Yeah, reading, writing, math, and gee, how can I get rid of this body part? I don't like this body part. Let's do something about it. E. geez. All right. Where can we go to find out more about this? I imagine you're writing about this on your sign, aren't you? Yeah, so parents and concerned citizens can read the complaint for themselves on defending ed.org. Also, you know, if parents are concerned about this issue or any other, you know, thing that they find going on in their local schools, they can reach out to us also at defending ed.org and we can, you know, help them look into it and resolve the situation however they need it. Paul, what do you think in your estimation, having worked, you know, defending education for a long time?
Starting point is 00:11:36 what are the real chances of reforming public union employee schools? Because, you know, a lot of this is coming straight from the Teachers Union, the American Federation of Teachers, the Oregon Education Association. They are all in on these agendas. And how can you possibly force taxpayers to pay people who have already come preconditioned to get their children into all sorts? of unhealthy activities and agendas? Yeah, the teachers' unions are certainly a huge problem.
Starting point is 00:12:13 We report a lot on their activity and their spending. And if any, your listeners have been paying attention of their recent, you know, conventions and conferences over the summer, they vote on and pursue very ideological stances on even things like immigration and conflicts in the Middle East, which, you know, absolutely, you know, have nothing to do with education. education and getting students to read and write and do math on grade level. Yeah, and to your point, the American Federation of Teachers is the National Union for the Oregon Nurses Association, which, of course, is also down these same kind of agenda as we've been discussing.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Right. And so there's a push. There's a lot of different types of pushes to fight back against the unions. I think, one, just educating educators that there are alternatives out there to the big teachers unions, and they should probably join one of those more common sense organizations. But also there's a push to get, you know, teachers, their dues get taken out of their paycheck before they even see that money. And so I believe in states like Idaho and maybe Oklahoma, they now have to get the money and pay the dues themselves so that they see the money going out the door, which obviously will make teachers less apt to want to join the unions after they see how much money. money they're giving them. And so I think there's some creative solutions to reduce their influence, but they'll continue to be a big influence, and it's up to parents and concerned citizens to call them out and fight back.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Yeah, unfortunately, you know, parents are thinking back to the happy yellow school bus days of their own childhood, and it's a little different in the trenches these days. Fair enough. Yes, it is. But, you know, we've been really encouraged by especially what's been happening the last five years, you know, parents getting really involved, speaking at a school board meetings, organizing really great groups in each of these states, including Oregon. And so it's encouraging to see, and while we had a lot of work to do, we're probably, you know, a decade or two behind the left on these issues. You know, we're making good headways, and I think we have a great federal administration, too, that's willing to investigate, you know, things like this
Starting point is 00:14:27 and hold states and school districts accountable when they break the law. But if the common sense side is a decade or two behind, that doesn't save your child right now, does it? Right. No, and that's why parents really need to be informed about what's going on in their schools. I always say parents need to check the backpack every single day that their kids home is home from school, see what they're learning, see what they've been taught about today, sit down with your kids and really unpack the school day.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Don't just let them say, oh, you know, my school day was fine. and, you know, talk to other parents and join a group in your area. Go to local school board meetings. You can't know what's going on and fight back if you're not informed. Paul Ronko is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at Defending Education, DefendingEd.org. Great talk on that this morning, Paul. Thank you so much for keeping us informed on it, okay? Be well.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Thank you. All right. It is 833 at KMED, KBXG, the Bill Myers Show. It's Conspiracy Theory Thursday. You heard a good one. Let me know. 770 KMED. Hi, this is Lisa from Kelly's
Starting point is 00:15:31 Automotive Service in Grants Pass in Medford. I asked my staff what was the one thing they were... General 190. You're hearing the Bill Myers Show on 1063 KMED. Conspiracy Theory Thursday open phones. It's always a dangerous time, but hey, we'll go back to that. I think there's a conspiracy to get me to spend all my money on cat treats.
Starting point is 00:15:54 I have an older cat, Maddie. He's going to be 17. Maine Coon or part Maine Coon. I tell you, as he gets older, he gets grumpier. And by the way, I don't like the term Karen being used, but we nickname him a Karen cat. Because I have great people in my life that are named Karen. They're wonderful people. But you know how they end up being every time I see.
Starting point is 00:16:16 I'll call up Linda in the morning. And then Matt will be sitting on her lap. And then I will hear coming through the phone immediately once I start talking. you know complaining about you know he hardly say anything for the longest time and now it's complaining all the time me it just comes with age let me go with paul hello paul i guess we're all complaining a little bit as time goes on what's on your mind huh well before i talk about fouchy i want you mentioned cats i'm happened to be taking care of 31 cats that have been dropped off here and reproduced the humane society is working with me they're spaying and neutered
Starting point is 00:16:52 They have no room for them. Nobody wants them. 31. I understand what it's like about cats. I have an old feral cat who's now inside, and the treats are her main dish, and yes, she's spoiled. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I would just wonder on Fauci, how big is this?
Starting point is 00:17:10 Is he connected with somebody else? Was there something else planned on this? I mean, the Chinese are involved. Any comments on that, or has anybody ever spoken on that that knows what they're talking about? don't. Yeah, I can't say that I do know anything specifically about, well, I know that, of course, Fauci had contact. There were those back, those backdoor deals to do gain of function over in China. Of course, there's also gain of function that was going on at labs in Ukraine, too, of all places. Don't you find that interesting? Yeah. Have you ever read the book? Yes, long time ago, though. Remind me.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Yeah, well, China, they work in a mysterious way. So it just looks to me like this may be the tip of the iceberg. And that's, you know. Yeah, it could be a foreign policy by other means, kind of like a, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, Yankee boy, you try to get fentanyl chemicals as to stop giving them to you. We corrode you from within, ha, ha, I think. And how many students are over here in this country and how many of them are working for a mother China? I would imagine that most Chinese students probably have some sort of intelligence connection,
Starting point is 00:18:25 but we're not supposed to talk about that. All right? Yeah. Yeah. Well, thank you, Bill. Always appreciate your show. I appreciate you calling into. And by the way, I'm not talking about that Chinese students come over and are just automatically spies.
Starting point is 00:18:38 It's kind of like, you know, your family. You have family over here, and you would like to just be an observer for us, wouldn't you? I'm sure it's how it kind of starts. I would have thought we would have been a little more strict on that. that. Boy, I got to tell you, out here in Oregon, we sure bought into China. Remember years ago? State Representative Dennis Lentigam, Secretary of State used to talk about it all the time.
Starting point is 00:19:00 We're going to go over there. We're going to get trade going with China. And then people would say, yeah, but they're communist. They're Chinese communist. No, no, they're not. They just want to buy Oregon stuff, and we want to trade with them. All right. Let's go to Brad.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Hey, Brad? You wanted to talk a bit about the Oregon Education Association going back to the My Gender Doll story over in Minnesota we were talking about with Paul Runco. What are you thinking? Yeah, yeah, yeah, good morning to the award winning Bill Meyer. Thank you. And I think the dentist that you were talking about was Dennis Richardson, not Dennis Lenthal. You're right. I'm sorry, I misspoke.
Starting point is 00:19:39 You're right, you're right. Dennis Lenthicum, Plymouth Falls, he's fine. He's no problem there. But anyway. Yeah, yeah. But, you know, the thing that you were, the thing that you were, discussing, most Oregonians have no idea how powerful the Oregon Education Association is. 41,000 members bringing in over $7 million a month in revenue. They are the 500-pound
Starting point is 00:20:02 gorilla in the Oregon State Legislature. Nothing happens in the Oregon Legislature without their say-so, and nothing is going to get past them if they don't like it. They literally have the power of life and death in the Oregon legislature. Well, what you're describing then is an existential threat to the state, really, that in essence, if you really want to save the future generations, the only thing that can be done about this, really, then, is to make sure that if you open up a public school, that nobody goes to it. Isn't that the solution on something like this? The only thing that will solve that political problem and solve that kind of corruption is for there to be no public school teachers?
Starting point is 00:20:48 I wouldn't go that. I don't think the problems with the teachers. The problem is with the unchecked power of the union as an administrative entity. But the teachers are paying them. So, yeah, they are a problem. But if the teachers are paying them money, and so if the teachers are paying their money, if the teachers pay the OEA money and it's unchecked power in the Oregon State Legislature, then public teachers are the problem, aren't they? The teachers aren't paying the money voluntarily. It's extracted from them without their permission. They don't get a choice. If you want to be a teacher, you have to pay the union. That's all there is. But can you not opt out?
Starting point is 00:21:31 You can opt out of the portion that is political, which is that that's the Janus decision. Yeah, that's what I was getting at. The part that you can opt out of theoretically is the part that they pay for political part. But that still leaves a gigantic chunk of funding, which gives them the power to do what they do in the legislature. Even if you opt out the political part, they still have millions and millions and millions of dollars that they can bring to play. But, well, you see, then going back to my original solution, the original solution is to not have a public school system, and then there's no union then to pressure the state legislature.
Starting point is 00:22:10 No, we've got to have a public school system. Why? We have to have that, but we just... No, no. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. What do you mean we have to have a public school system? The United States of America was better educated back when everything was all privatized. And communities would just have their own little schools. They'd make their own schools. They'd bring it up there. We had an amazing level of literacy and accomplishment, you know, before this. In fact, if anything, it seems that it has gone worse and we have regressed over the years. So how can you say we don't need a, that we have to have a public school system? What? So somebody knows how to work with their my gender doll? I mean, what? The public school system when I was a kid was administered by the local school district, and that was the difference.
Starting point is 00:22:54 The difference was when I was a kid here in Oregon is that every school district ran its own district, and it was run by the parents that had the kids in that district. And they don't do that anymore, Brad. So to your point then, that means the way to attack it is to eliminate the public school system and start with a fresh sheet of paper. I, boy, I think that's, I think that's a bridge too far. Okay, then how is it, how are you going to, see, this is, and I've talked with many people who have been on public school boards, right, and they have talked about the futility of it. It is absolutely immune to reform from within.
Starting point is 00:23:33 If it is, if it can't be reformed from within, the only solution to this is to end it. I don't know how else you get around that, Brad. I mean, just talk about the logic. If this is the threat to political governance in this state, you know, because it's controlled by people with a real agenda in mind, you know, at the top, then the only solution is to make sure they don't have any business. So just one magic one solution I would suggest is, which is actually doable. All you'd have to do is let's go back to the way that we did Oregon education before about. about 1975, where every school district gets to have its own curriculum and run itself with its own resources.
Starting point is 00:24:20 That would mean they would have to have their own funding mechanism again, and that's what the state did. The state took it all over. As long as the state controls your funding, you're screwed. You're screwed, Brad. I'm sorry. But we controlled our funding locally. That was the difference back then, Bill. We don't right now.
Starting point is 00:24:36 We don't. We don't have that. That has been taken over by Salem. But the OEA, truly, as you were talking, the OEA literally is the monster that's eating New York. And it isn't the teachers that are bad. It's this administrative monster that is so big, nobody can govern it anymore. Okay, I'm not saying they're bad people. But I'm saying the fact is, though, they're paying the bad people.
Starting point is 00:25:00 And as long as they're paying the bad people because they're public school teachers, I don't know how that gets fixed. I appreciate the call, though. Thank you. 7-7. Okay. Okay. I don't know. Okay, it's bad, but we can't do without it. Well, but it's really bad. Well, where do you go, folks? I don't know. Hi, KMED. Good morning. Who's this?
Starting point is 00:25:21 Wow, the priorities. Man got trial for felonies on Monday, and he's worried about this. Anyway, I want to apologize to you and your audience, Bill. You know, I've been trying to encourage people to go down and speak there at the commissioner's meeting. And, you know, one of your listeners, or Scotty, the driver, has showed up a couple weeks in a row. And they just shut them down right away. How so? How so? Well, yeah, they, you know, it's a brick wall is what you're talking to there.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Well, you have to understand is that when you go and make a comment, all you're doing is making a comment. It's not a conversation. Well, there was a young man that came in yesterday. His name's Clarence, and he's been exploited and basically by the Jackson County Sheriff's in our justice system here. He had evidence. He shared it all with him. And they just, it's, it's, you know, you're, you're misinterpreting what the public comment period is.
Starting point is 00:26:17 It is public comment. It is not public dialogue. Oh, I realize that. Okay. Good. As long as you realize that, fine. Scotty may be misinterpreted. He thought it was going back and forth.
Starting point is 00:26:26 This, this other man, Clarence, who spoke, I shared his post all over Facebook. He was, he was bringing up evidence, solid evidence of how he's just, and he has all the evidence of how he's been just for lack of a term targeted by local law enforcement here. He's not suicidal, but he's going to get himself disappeared, understanding that this is a beast. What's going on here, they take you out one at a time, little by little. This whole valley is completely corrupted, and people just need to see it for what it is. Okay, well, strong evidence needs to be presented that's the case. why doesn't Clarence if he's being abused
Starting point is 00:27:07 there would have to be a pro bono lawyer they would love to take that where is it? Bill, I just don't see I don't see that if someone has great evidence it needs to be brought to something
Starting point is 00:27:21 not to a public comment period because it can't be the lawyers Bill no lawyer will take the case doesn't matter how much money you have they will not take a case because they are they're all in bed together all right well thank you for the
Starting point is 00:27:33 conspiracy theory Thursday call. All right. 770KM.D. Don't comment according to that. I know. This is Tim. Can you hear me? Yes, Tim. I can hear you. Go ahead. Okay, good. It was Dennis Richardson, not Dennis Lusikam. Yes, I was corrected on that, and it was true. And it's right. I misspoke. Yeah. Anyway, I was here in the 80s. I moved up here in 85. And I believe at the time, shortly after that, the public voted for to turn the schools over the control of the state because some counties were poorer than others. That's right. And they used that
Starting point is 00:28:03 propaganda, the fact that we were not, didn't have a lot of money that would be better for the state to do it. So we gave away our control. I didn't. I knew, I knew better, but people are very naive and they love convenience. Yep, I would agree with you on that. And under the guise of, hey, we're going to equalize school funding, you just ended up increasing the encirclement of power from Salem. And, of course, enabling the Oregon Education Association to more or less make them dance, make us all dance to the tune. And so, I don't know. Can it be reformed from within?
Starting point is 00:28:37 I have yet to think so. I think if the fox has gotten into the henhouse and taught the other foxes and it's been going on so long, they teach communism in school. The only one who's stopping his Rick Constantus, he's now going to teach, is going to make it, try to make a law. I think he may have already made a law that outlaw communism being taught in schools. and they want to teach the courses in the dangers of communism. That's what they should be teaching, you know, social nation and, you know, a lot of these writers that wrote about it and it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:29:09 I just don't understand how you can say, all right, we know this public system is corrupt. We know it's corrupt from the top down, right? We know this, that it is absolutely immune from public pressure and from form from within. And then, but if you talk about eliminating the public school system, people go into a panic. And why is that, I wonder? I think they're basically, I think two reasons. One, they don't want to deal with teaching, take down the expense of teaching their own children, which is really their responsibility. Because I remember my grandmother taught around the turn of the centuries, my great-grandmother, instead of my grandfather.
Starting point is 00:29:49 and they were paid by the parents. And I think my grandfather was making, this is probably a little bit before the turn of the century. He's making $20 a month at a boarding school. They paid for his room and his food, but he worked his way through college and got a much better job that way. My grandmother taught schools the same wage.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Yeah. Well, I know that we know we're not going to go back to the single-room schoolhouse sort of model there. But if we always approach every education system question as, well, you can't do anything about the public school system. Well, then you have essentially doomed a high percentage of the population to an inferior agenda-based education. And so unless you're willing to actually strike at the route, I don't know where that goes. I appreciate your call. 770 KMED, what's on your mind?
Starting point is 00:30:43 Let me know. This is the Bill Meyer show. The best thing about Wednesdays, it's obviously homemade meatloaf Wednesdays at Diner 62. It happens every summer. Trees add extra weight from leaves and fruit, and they're on the brink of collapse. Hi, this is Jeff with quality tree service. If your trees are overdue for pruning, call us for a no-obligation inspection. We'll provide a quote if some emergency pruning is needed to keep them upright and healthy.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Or if they can wait, the quote is good through the end of the year. We also offer senior and military discounts. Find us at QualityTreeServicemedford.com or call 821-8594. This hour of the Bill Myers Show is sponsored by Fontana Roofing. For roofing gutters and sheet metal services, visit Fontana Roofing Services.com. Well, it's official. My friends have all switched to Pure Talk because I told them they could save a bunch of money on a super-reliable high-speed network with unlimited data.
Starting point is 00:31:39 And because they're my friends, they trust me. As for the rest of you, well, Pure Talk understands that even though you might like me, you're not just going to take my word for it, nor should you. For that reason, and for a very limited time, Pure Talk is offering any of their plans for just $15 a month for the first three months, including their top-tier unlimited plan that normally sells for $65 a month. Think of it like a test drive, a super simple way to save $150 bucks while you kick the tires on Pure Talk's blazing fast network and a fine way to see for yourself why I switched from
Starting point is 00:32:15 big wireless, along with a few hundred thousand of my closest friends. Dial pound 250, say Mike Rowe, and be connected to Pure Talk's friendly U.S. customer service team. Again, dial pound 250. Say Mike Rowe and let the savings begin. Hi, it's Megan McPherson with the McPherson Insurance Agency. Starting point is 00:32:49 experience to work for you now with more companies to choose from, the McPherson Insurance Agency, local, trusted, and now with more options for Southern Oregon. 541-787-4-1-77. This is News Talk 1063, KMED, and you're waking up with the Bill Myers Show. By the way, my screed on the, you know, about public education is once again not an indictment of teachers. I know there are people doing their best to try to work it through the system. But I also know a lot of people, a lot of teachers who have actually made personal sacrifices and left the public system to go into private and or parochial education. And they actually enjoy their job again.
Starting point is 00:33:31 This is what I'm hearing. And so if we're going to be talking about public education, public education all the time, but we always have to work from the point of view of you certainly couldn't stop having a public school system. Then how are we ever going? If that option is taken off the table, then I don't see any way in the state of Oregon that real reform comes through it. To have a threat to actually close your buildings, let's say, dissolve your school district
Starting point is 00:34:05 and perhaps sell them off to other private educational entities. cities over time could be an amazing sharpening of the mind about what education is really all about. Is education about buying yellow school buses and having big warehouses that we put kids into every day, or is it actually about learning what you need to be, to be a proper, productive, and knowledgeable citizen? You know, what is it all about? Yeah, the institution is pretty sick. But anyway, hi, KMED. Good morning. Who's this? This is Minor Dave. Yeah, Dave.
Starting point is 00:34:37 I put four apps to sleep. So is my connection better now? Okay, fine. Just keep going. Give me your point. My point is that Dr. Fauci can still be charged through the states. So that's why he's taking immunity because anything he said to them could be used in state courts. And I got a call yesterday from publishing clearinghouse telling me I want a car and $5 million.
Starting point is 00:35:06 but they needed me to pay them shipping money to ship me the car. You do understand that that's a scam, right? Oh, that was a scam. Oh, good, good, good, okay, because it amazes me how many people think that, well, all they do is want me to pay so I could get my prize. No, if it's a prize, they pay to get it to you. Anyways, I was just warning everybody. All right.
Starting point is 00:35:31 You get a call from Dana Anderson. Dana Dana needs to go to H.E. Double Hockey sticks. Okay? Hi. All right. Yeah, that's why we need those Know-your-Customer things for those.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Remember what the Attorney General wants to do along with the other 49 Attorney General's? But anyway, hi, KMED. Good morning. Who's this? Welcome. Hey, good morning, Bill. This is Michael again.
Starting point is 00:35:57 All right, Michael. Sorry for double-diffing. That's okay. I'll give you one more bite. Go ahead. So, first of all, Bouchy should get IAizer bay injections on both eyes with a dull needle. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Oh, that would be painful. I hear about those eye injections. I just wince. What about you? Oh, yeah, that's a terrible thing. I just definitely have that pain. You know, I don't even know where it comes from, but yeah, that's what do you call a sympathetic pain or whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Yeah, yeah, the idea of getting a shot in my boobble in my eybulbs is, I don't know how people do that, but God bless them if they have to, I guess. Yeah, it might be good. for a short side of people need punishment for stupid things they did. But, you know, have you had a show about the glyphosate they're using in the forest now? Well, we've talked about glyphosate off and on. I haven't done a show on it, but are you talking about the cut and squirt sort of forest management to keep the weeds down as they fin some things?
Starting point is 00:36:58 Yeah, they're using it in California and also in the southern states. And some are saying in Canada, I'm not sure about Canada, Is that a problem? Before they replant the trees, they make sure to wipe out all the plants in the area. So these are just like brown, just ready to burn. I don't even know if they're part of the problem with some of these fires. Do you think that is a bad policy? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:27 I'm not an expert, but Craig Roberts might know something about it. I don't know. Okay. All right. I'll ask him about it. He is going to be on tomorrow for the outdoor report. Okay. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
Starting point is 00:37:37 All right. Well, Michael, I'll give him a call tomorrow. We'll see what he has to say. Appreciate the call. Fontana roofing metal roof customers are always thrilled with the results, but there could be a downside for certain homeowners. Here's a confidential conversation captured en route to a job site.
Starting point is 00:38:23 You know, these metal roofs are pretty popular, but I suppose they do have some disadvantages. Oh, come on. Really? For instance. Well, if you actually enjoy replacing your roof, you may not get a second chance since metal typically lasts 40 to 70 years. Oh yeah, that's a real bummer. And they reflect UV and infrared rays, which can save up to 25% in cooling costs. Point taken.
