Starting point is 00:00:00 The Bill Myers Show podcast is sponsored by Klauser Drilling. They've been leading the way in Southern Oregon well drilling for over 50 years. Find out more about them at Klausor drilling.com. You're hearing the Bill Myers Show on 1063 KMED. I'm just feeling like relaxing a little bit, getting into a beautiful Friday morning. Ah, beautiful summertime indeed. Although I did see the lights flickered. Did the lights flicker in your house?
Starting point is 00:00:27 Greg Roberts? You know, honestly, they do that pretty frequently, actually. I went to go to bed last night, and I had to, the first thing I had to do was reset my clock because somewhere in the day yesterday we had a power search strong enough to knock my clock out. Oh, okay, yeah, I was just wondering about that. Every time I see the little wiggle, I'm thinking, okay, uh-oh, is this another one of public safety shutoffs that we're going to have here in order to protect us in a sustainable energy grid in the northwest. Anyway, I'm a little sarcastic.
Starting point is 00:01:03 But anyway, let's get into the outdoor report. We'll do this now. Greg Roberts from Rogue Weather and the Outdoor Report sponsored by Oregon Truck and Auto Authority on Airway Drive and Medford. We appreciate Greg fromrogweather.com. And we're actually talking about maybe a sprinkle or two this weekend. For real, huh? Yeah, for real.
Starting point is 00:01:22 You know, it was kind of funny. I was watching this thing developing. And then the next thing I know, all these online social media, weather people, some TV people start yelping about an AR, atmospheric river coming our way. And I'm like, no, here's what I see. It's rare to see at this point in the month. But this is actually a true winter-type storm. It's coming out of the Gulf of Alaska. It's not coming from, say, near Hawaii or, further west in the tropic, sub-tropic Pacific zone. This is, you know, the kind of thing that I'm hoping we'll be seeing more of because it's going to be true winter storm. It's not going to hit us as much as it's going to hit areas to our north, and especially
Starting point is 00:02:15 Washington and British Columbia. And that's actually really good news because they've got a really devastating fire going on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. that probably over the course of the weekend, they're talking about an inch to two inches of rain on that fire. And then Vancouver Island, up in Canada, they've got a series of big fires going out there that, again, an inch to two inches of rain on those fires is really going to help do a job on suppressing them and allow firefighters to get a lot more directly engaged and go in and start hunting down the hot pockets that threaten the perimeter. So really good news there. Oh, also, Washington up into British
Starting point is 00:03:02 Columbia snow down to 8,000 feet, and there's actually a lot of terrain in the Cascades in Washington and the coast range in B.C. that's above 8,000 feet. And especially in British Columbia, it's looking like probably as much as six inches of snow accumulating up there. And that's just fabulous news because I don't even remember how many fires they've got going in British Columbia right now. Last count, I remember seeing, was 58. So a lot of big time help coming from Mother Nature to help on those fires in Washington and British Columbia. Now, for the situation in Southern Oregon, though, are we looking at measurable rain or just sprinkles? What does it look like? Because, you know, This area, you know how it's like the Medford area.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Usually most of the moisture gets scraped off. We only get about 19 inches of rain a year period, as you've talked about before. And this is a classic winter storm situation, which means Medford's going to be drier, the coast wetter, the higher, the higher terrain, especially the Cascades, wetter. Western Josephine County, probably at the way it looks right now, somewhere between a tenth to, maybe even as much as four-tenths of an inch. And I would expect that's probably going to be true the further west you get out there at the Illinois Valley, O'Brien area. Because, again, O'Brien gets, on average, nearly 99 inches of rain a year.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And you just mentioned Medford at about 19 inches. It's 18.44 inches. Okay. Yeah. Well, duly corrected. Okay. Thank you. Right.
Starting point is 00:04:47 It's one of these situations that looks like we're going to see. most rain where typically we see the most rain. This is also one of these times where Medford, you know, we may get a trace, we may get up to a tenth, we're just, we're going to have to wait and see how this all lines out. But yeah, there's a legit chance for rain. No chances for thunderstorms, by the way. This is the other really interesting thing about this. There's an Isolated risk for storms, mostly Cascades East, for tomorrow and Sunday. But here, immediately, locally, Medford Grants Pass, don't see that happening. But, hey, we'll take the much cooler attempts, because what were we at the beginning of the week,
Starting point is 00:05:35 106, we get to tomorrow and Sunday. We may do well to crack 80. Okay. Well, that's great news. I'm not going to complain about that. one one bit all right now what i'm curious about though is this going to be a longer term pattern or are we kind of flipping right back to the more typical summer and you always start wondering if you're going to see maybe uh you know an early slide into fall that kind of yeah that isn't what's happening
Starting point is 00:06:01 and in fact over on the rogue weather facebook page and also on our me we page i put a link up that gets you to the longer term forecast which we start off on that page shorter range six to ten days, then we show 8 to 14, then three to four weeks, and then we get to the 90-day outlooks. When you're looking at the six, basically the six-day out through the four-week, a lot of heat coming back at us, and in fact, just kind of pulling some numbers before we got on the air. Next Friday, going to be back in the mid-90s, and when we get there, that actually is probably going to be around five degrees above average because the hottest time of the year for Medford passed on Monday, our average daily highs start dropping now. And actually, as we get later
Starting point is 00:06:56 in the month, they start dropping at a pretty good rate. Okay, good to know. And as far as outdoor activity, the rain is probably not going to be interrupting any of that. If you want to go fish, you can still go fish and, you know, those kind of things. And, of course, we've got a fun event. happening in prospect tomorrow. It's the 75th, the timber champoree, anyway, the old timber carnival. It's still going, 75 years of it now. So that'll be happening. So that'll be a fun thing to check out. I would love to go check that. I haven't been to that in years. Okay, I didn't know that they were still doing that. I haven't been to that in years. It was about 20-something years ago since the last time I went there. It's still going. It's still their big fun event in prospect.
Starting point is 00:07:42 So like I said, no heat, some clouds. I'm going to be a great day to be able to check that out. There may be a shower. Prospect is probably one of those places, a little more likely to see the showers. Okay, good to know here. And anything else we need to know about where we go in the outdoor before we talk about, I want to dig up something that you were talking to me off here a while back about your brother, is it your brother-in-law? A brother-in-law.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Okay, yeah. Anything else there that we need to know? No, just again, you know, people have been asking me, well, is this going to ruin my camping? Well, if you're going anywhere locally down here, no, probably not, but be aware, especially if you're going to be in the Cascades. You've got pretty good chance to have a shower. You may get a rumble of thunder. Again, as I said before, the thunder chances are higher east of the Cascades. But, yeah, it may drip on you, but the flip side of that is it's going to be.
Starting point is 00:08:42 a lot more comfortable this weekend than it was last weekend or next weekend is going to be. You know, Greg, given how hot and dry it has been of a summer off and on, why do you suppose we've had such a low amount of a fire burn in the state? I actually got into that on a live on rogue weather this week, and immediately people were like, you're going to jinx us, don't even talk about it. Well, the big thing is, honestly, the Rogue River Sisku National Forest has definitely being way more aggressive on initial attack and sustaining that rather than what we used to see in the good old days. And especially now that there's a new sheriff in town in D.C., they're not just sitting back managing fires for whatever reason. They're being hyper-aggressive about hitting them.
Starting point is 00:09:38 And that's been great to see. I suspected that was the case. I really did because, you know, the whole thing is that we understand burning for land management purposes, but it got to the point where, you know, our summers were miserable because the lightning strike comes and then the box gets drawn around it and then it grows into 20,000 acres, right? And there was a burn plan, and there still is a burn plan on every bit. But now Jackson County, of course, has that resolution. coordinates with the Forest Service and says, no, in the summertime, we're not doing the
Starting point is 00:10:13 prescribed burn in the middle of the summertime. We're not going to do that, okay? Yep. The only fires we have seen this year turn into the kind of fires we sadly got too used to seeing from 2013 through, well, basically this year, are up in Washington State, Pomas and Bear Goltz. And both of them became the longstanding, dreaded, extended duration events will burn until the rain and snow falls comes because absolutely horrendous terrain to try and fight fire in to begin with. And then, you know, I was just going to say Pomas, but Beargolds for sure is also burning an Olympic National Park.
Starting point is 00:11:02 And everybody knows. There's just different rules for engagement on fires in the national parks. Now, I'm hearing a lot of buzz and chatter that after what Dragon Bravo fire in Arizona did to the north rim portion of Grand Canyon National Park, there may even be some changes coming in how they're going to attack fires in national parks. All right. Greg Roberts, once again, Rogue Weather, Outdoor Report, sponsored by Oregon Truck and Auto Authority. on Airway Drive in Medford, and I want to take it to something personal you were talking me about, which I found intriguing here. You were talking about your brother-in-law.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Brother-in-law is a disabled veteran, and you have been struggling over the last few days to try to find a way to get him in a better situation, because you told me what his disabled veteran benefits or how much, again, it wasn't very much money. $875 a month. Wow. That doesn't get you a whole lot here in Southern Oregon. It won't. And, you know, the maddening part about it for me is knowing what he goes through, how he struggles, how much we do help him to get necessities of life taken care of. Even before
Starting point is 00:12:21 this most recent thing that we're about to discuss happened, we were still pitching in and helping him when we could to literally buy groceries. Sure. The angry part for me, or the anger part, comes from the fact of watching the news and reading all the stories about all of these people who came into the country illegally, literally getting thousands of dollars and benefit every month. And here's a guy who served in the United States Army at the tail end of the Cold War over in Germany, and he gets $875 a month.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Now, is that total? No, social security benefits, no nothing like that? No, because he's still too young for that. Oh. It's the old game that they play. Oh, okay. You're not old enough to get this, but here, we're going to give you this. And his disability is such that it isn't a severe debilitating thing.
Starting point is 00:13:20 He's not in a wheelchair or anything like that, but still. But functionally knocked out of... As disabled. Yeah, but he's functionally knocked out of doing a lot of things, right? Okay, yeah. You're kind of... In the course of just trying to feed himself, keep the lights on in the house, the other things, you know what I mean? His taxes, he got seriously behind on his taxes.
Starting point is 00:13:44 He got a foreclosure notice from Jackson County. The foreclosure, when they said this is what's going to happen by the 16th. of this month, you must pay at least. Well, we finally got my dad's estate through probate, and I know I'm getting the money from that, and we were like, we're going to help clean up the mess here for him. But that is still not here yet. We're still held up by one factor, which I'm going to try and get cleared up today, a church of all things. The last time I had to deal with them like this. They weren't about to let go of their money until we said, we're going to sue you. I don't know if I have to do this. But county, we went to them and
Starting point is 00:14:32 said, is there any way to get an extension? They said, absolutely not. So I had to resort to other means. And thank goodness we have Bob at Father and Son Jewelry. Bob did what I wish a lot of Americans would do to step up and help veterans going through what my brother-in-law is going through. He loaned us the money to be able to call the foreclosure off. That is so cool. Bob at Father and Son, that's great story. Thanks for letting me know. Yep. That's great. So Bob literally stepped up and made sure that a disabled vet didn't lose his home. That is, that sure's my heart. Glad to hear that, really is. It shouldn't have to come to that. I know, I know, but still the fact that someone was willing
Starting point is 00:15:17 to step up there. That just, what a great story. Thanks. we're sharing that, Greg. Wow. So Wednesday, Thursday, there was a lot of activity spent on making sure my brother-in-law keeps his house that he actually got because father-in-law passed away, and he was residing in it and all the paperwork and everything stipulated. He got to stay in it. Well, once again, property rich, though, cash poor, right?
Starting point is 00:15:47 Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. You know, this, though, is illustrative. of why the property tax, in my opinion, is one of the most evil ways of paying for government services because you never have the ability to be able to live frugally without some sort of income. You will always have to pay rent in order to keep the property. And that's one of the reasons why, as long as there is such a thing as the property tax,
Starting point is 00:16:19 I don't know if we can really call Americans, you know, free of that, you know, being able to own your land. You know, you own your land only to the extent that you can continue to pay the local governments. I'm not blaming the governments because the governments here, this is how they figured out. This is the only thing that was, you know, you tax what couldn't move, right? That's the land. Well, and see, that was one of the things that I don't know if you remember Neil Borts back in the day. Yes, I do. He was pushing the idea of the flat tax when it came.
Starting point is 00:16:49 right down to it, which was a national sales tax, but it would remove property taxes as well. Because I hear President Trump from time to time talking about this as well, the property tax issue, you never really truly own your own home. The American dream is always and has been kind of a myth. So even when you're older, you better have a decent income stream to be able to pay that, and that is a real issue. Now, I know that Jackson County, you can let the property taxes. I think they can build up for, what, three years? I think they'll let you hang for three years, but then after three years, you're going to have to pony it up for sure. Well, and then the other thing, and I don't know if they're still doing it, but I remember my grandfather, the house that my second
Starting point is 00:17:38 wife and I wound up buying in East Medford, he knew exactly when taxes were coming due. He owned his house technically, meaning he wasn't paying the bank. So what he would do on November 1st, when that arrived every year, he'd go down to Jackson County. He actually got a discount for paying it in full on time. I'm not sure if they're still doing that or not. I believe they do. They still do that, okay. Hey, Greg, I'm glad your brother-in-law is going okay, but it's sad that we have to have those stories, and it's not uncommon. I just wanted to know here what you were And that is the really disgusting, hideous part of it. It is not uncommon.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And there are a lot of veterans who wound up on the streets because of it. Yep. And in the United States, especially in the more progressive areas, we still do have a pathological love of people who I don't want to be mean to people who we don't necessarily have to love. But we love the system with our tax dollars in ways we still shouldn't. and they're trying to fix some of that, but long way to go, my friend. We'll catch you next Friday, okay?
Starting point is 00:18:50 And just quickly, and another thing, Neil Borts, a term he coined that I totally agree with for especially a lot of our veterans who found themselves and lost their homes in the situation of my brother-in-law, he called him Urban Outdoorsman. Yeah, Urban Outdoorsman. You got it. Greg, we'll catch you next week, all right? Be well. Good weekend.
Starting point is 00:19:11 You too, Bill. Thanks again. It's 731. Getting ready to refinance or sell your property? Starting point is 00:22:18 But it's just bad. It's bad to bring the porno stuff to the state legislature so that people understand what they were really voting for or against, as the case might be. Starting point is 00:23:47 the Medford City Council to raise the lodging tax to pay for an expensive minor league baseball stadium in Medford. Hoteliers argue that the lodging tax is meant as a means to increase hotel stays, which is something they say would not happen with a minor league baseball team. Congratulations that you will not be crucified on a cross made of woke.
Starting point is 00:26:31 How are you doing? Welcome. I'm doing well. I always had faith in the law, but sometimes in Oregon you're wondering. and what the crazies will do to you. And obviously, there's still some crazies because one representative that I should be on across. And, you know, she's from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. And I think she forgets where she's living at.
Starting point is 00:26:59 So we will continue to move on and fight for Oregonians, and especially Southern Oregonians. I've got to curious here, what is the real results? So the charges of creating a hostile? work environment because you had the temerity to read the porno books that taxpayers are forced to pay for in government school libraries, and you're reading the nasty passages to try to get the other people to understand that, you know, the school board should be able to control what's in these libraries. And I guess, you know, that just dismissed or did they just kind of exhaust themselves or collapse? There's no evidence. I mean, what happened? What was the process
Starting point is 00:27:38 yesterday he had a hearing right yeah they see there's this is the messed up part of rule 27 they're trying to use a rule 27 which is more like a work um like you're at work there you know i'm saying and you and you're doing inappropriate behavior in a workplace i am speaking on the house floor the conduct on the house floor has a decorum rules that the speaker oversees decorum of things you're not supposed to do, two different things. You can't, you know, in the work they place, you know, they tell us, you know, you can't be sexual harassing people and all these other things, inappropriate behavior. Yeah, were they trying to conflate a hostile work environment with you talking on the house floor as with somebody walking in there and smacking someone on the behind, right? You know, you talk about the old style sexual harassment.
Starting point is 00:28:37 Is that what they were trying to do with this? Yes. That's what they're trying to do. But the First Amendment, especially the freedom of speech in Oregon, specifically says this is the place that I'm supposed to bring up topics of concern. And sometimes those concerns are going to be hard for people to deal with. Where am I supposed to debate these issues if I cannot debate them on the House floor of the people. house you know what I'm saying yeah if they if they have been able to shut you up over this kind of stuff then how would you ever have any good conversation about anything really really difficult and really really uncomfortable if you can't do it there where can you I mean that's the bottom line isn't that what were you talking about here that that's right now you know in the house floor I'm not supposed to call out a single member and call them names I'm tossed to talk about a subject in general or things
Starting point is 00:29:38 you know what I'm saying, a topic. And that's what I was doing. I never called out a single person. I was, my constituents was Mariah Rossi complained about a book that she was having problems getting out of the school library here in Josephine County, three rivers, was in North Valley High School, and then we were having a bill, sent a bill 1098 that was making it harder. So where am I supposed to put these stuff out if I cannot?
Starting point is 00:30:08 do on the house floor? You know, you might not like the way I did it, but that is the place to debate. And people need to understand that there's going to be topics that other people might not like, but we all have a right to be heard. And they did not want me to be heard because they didn't like that. And if you're going to work in that building, you should understand there might be things that offend you. And if you don't like that, go work somewhere else. You have that right. Hey, there are things that come out of the state legislature that offend me every day, Dwayne.
Starting point is 00:30:48 I'll tell you. I don't want black drag queens on the house floor. Yeah. I don't want them. Exactly. I wouldn't want any drag queens just, you know, prancing around the floor. And there's all sorts of insulting things that come out of it. But you certainly didn't go out there and charge somebody with creating a hostile work
Starting point is 00:31:06 environment. I mean, did you go to Javadi? or Jabba Dee, and say, hey, we're going to bring you up on charges? I don't think so. No, actually, the person, Rep Nelson, that brought them there, came and talked to me about the drag queens at one point. And I said, you know what? I disagree with you.
Starting point is 00:31:25 I'm not going to say anything on the house floor. He's a gay man. But it doesn't mean I'm not going to say something about what's going on. And I did on social media and stuff like that. I said, I'm not going to go out there and try to bear it. these two drag queen guys or whatever because I didn't think it was the right place to do it, you know, but he knew how I felt about it. I disagree with him doing that. And there's a lady in front of me that has a trans son, Representative Walters. And a lot of times when I talk about
Starting point is 00:31:58 trans issues, I'll say, hey, Walters, I'm going to speak about something you probably don't want to hear. I say it to her all the time. And just to give her a heads up, I can't go around until every representative that, but she sits right in front of me. I respect her, you know, and it's not personal about her child, and she knows that. She goes, I know you disagree. It's not personal. I mean, Walters, I could disagree with all her politics. Yeah. But I respect her as an Oregonian, as a person, a lady. And I'm not trying to attack her personally or her child. But on the other hand, it's like, you know, the trans agendas and the various, you know, these are part of legislative debates right now because taxpayer money and policy is being formed by these,
Starting point is 00:32:44 these kind of situations. I'm astounded at, you know, when I hear about Republicans that all of a sudden go all in on the LGBTQ agenda. And it's usually because the, you know, the mom finds out that the kid comes out gay or something like that. If you notice that, there's an interesting trend and then all of a sudden every principle that ever was properly held before just vanishes and goes down the drain i find that astonishing dwayne i really do it is like well they'll have a gay uncle or someone or an or someone comes out and says i mean okay i'm not telling you not to love that person but you could yeah yeah but you can disagree with state policy that okay we're not going to pay for surgeries to uh and we're not going to hide this from parents
Starting point is 00:33:30 parents in government school and all these kinds of other things. There's just such a nonsense sort of thing that to have to not bend the knee to absolutely everything that a progressive interest group wants is somehow tantamount to hating or we're repressing them. And they want to make them a protective class because they like to sleep with someone, you know, the same sex or whatever it is. I'm like, well, how is that protective class, you know, no. Yeah, yeah, how is it a protected class who you choose to go to bed with, right? Because, you know, you go down that road, you go down that road, it's not that far from the point where you have the pedophiles, you know, the perverts, pedophile perverts that will come out there and say, well, you know, I was born this way and I love children. I mean, I really love children. I mean, yeah, you can say, oh, Bill, that's crazy, but I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:34:28 And by the way, I'm not conflating being gay with being a pedophile, okay? I'm not doing that. No, no, no. I know you're not. But they want to take it to an extreme that you're a protected class and all these thousand genders and everything else. I'm like, well, no, that's not protective class. Just because you like to sleep with, you know, whatever, you know, or you're lesbian or gay.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Now, we already have rights that you can't discriminate against people, but you should not get special treatment because, you know, you like to sleep with the same. same sex. Yeah, you're not above, you're not above criticism. It's not like the magic get out of a criticism jail free card, you know, in which you're supposed to agree with everything. You should have a right to the job like anybody else, the best paid person. I mean, Trump administration's got several people that are either gay or whatever in his administration, but they're doing a job, you know what I'm saying? The topic's never about who they like to sleep with. Yeah, that would be Tammy Bruce comes to mind, yeah, big one.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Yeah, Bruce, and there's the other guy, finance guy, that's Bassett or something like that. Yeah, Scott Bassett, Treasury Secretary, I think, is also openly gay. Now, this is that ever comes up about them. So this is all over now, then. Is this going to pretty much stop this kind of attack, though, on speech on the floor, this whole attack that was levied against you because of the porno high school books? I doubt it. I mean, the only way it would stop is if I stop talking, I know they don't like my speeches.
Starting point is 00:36:05 You know, there were several speeches. They actually complained about several speeches. Some of them never rose to them. They hated the Oregon Way speech, which makes what we just talked about, I must accept their delusion. There was all kinds of things they did complain. Oh, no, you don't have to just accept the delusion, Dwayne. And you also have to buy tickets for the circus, for the crazy circus, okay? That's what that's all about.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Yeah, yeah. So they don't want me to bring up, which we're all thinking about every day is like, why are you forcing these things on me? And I'm just talking about them going, well, these are ridiculous. I want to talk about, you know, I really want to talk about how you're running, you know, taking all my money on my pocket. But instead, you forced me to talk about all the crazy things because that's all you guys care about. And so, you know, I'm going to continue to talk.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Good. I'm going to keep fighting. And if it's going to be uncomfortable, they just have to deal with it. All right. I want to shift now to the upcoming special session. It's going to be two weeks from today. And by the way, I will not be here. I am taking that final week of August off because I figure that I'm going to want to drink too heavily if I'm talking too much about the state legislature.
Starting point is 00:37:23 So I'm going to take some vacation the final week and come back after Labor Day. But this is going to be a multi-day thing from what we're understanding. It's not going to be one day, but they're going to start it on Labor Day weekend. Isn't that what we're looking at? Well, the Democrats would like us to suspend rules and make it a one-day process. As far as I know in our – I have a meeting on the 18th with our caucus, the Republican House Caucus. We're not suspending rules. if you're going to drag people in on the 29th,
Starting point is 00:37:53 you're going to spend your whole Labor Day week in there. I'm not going to be there. I have other things planned that day, but I won't be there for many reasons. You know, what lunatic takes Labor Day weekend to pull people into pass. Well, they want to tax labor. They're a taxing labor. That's what they want to do.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Tax labor is what they want to do. You know, they want to tax labor. and there's a K-ATU news report just came out yesterday. 82% of the people said, no, don't pass it. They're just tone death. And if you go back to the bill, they're only 350 million short on the budget that was passed during the regular session. Now, why are they asking for an extra $700 million on top of that with this new bill? That just sounds to me like they want to grow it and write some more hot checks to some group or whatever it is or interest group with some extra money.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Exactly. They don't want to cut waste and abuse. They don't want to talk about these overruns on bridges. You know, when you're Eric and H-Back guy comes down and tells you it's going to be $7,000 to replace H-Back, he doesn't give you a $20,000 and makes you pay it. You're like, screw, you know, you gave me a bid. They don't want, or they're charging these handicapped ramps in the city. You see all those, $50,000 to do those.
Starting point is 00:39:22 I mean, this is just ridiculous things that are happening and say what is going on. We just pay the bill. Now, why isn't there any appetite in the state legislature to audit Oregon Department of Transportation and get it back on a proper fiscal footing, Dwayne? I have no idea why, you know, we gave them as House Republicans, we gave them a cost savings of $700 million. We gave that. There was audits, don't hire positions that have been empty for a year or are not filled for a year, and the Democrats just don't want to talk about that. I remember that, so this was the plan that Republicans submitted to the Democrats and they didn't want to look at this then.
Starting point is 00:40:10 you could save $700 with the existing money coming in. Is that right? Is that what I was assuming? Is that what you mean by that? Okay. And they only need $354 million to balance the budget. Is this about rewarding union workers? I don't know if that's the case.
Starting point is 00:40:25 I'm just posing the question because we know that union politics drives a lot of what happens in Salem. We know that. I have a lot of hate. I'm going to say this is hate for the union. and because they have so much power. What SEIU pulls up to the Capitol in a U-Haul truck and brings boxes of postcards from constituents, now we know some of them didn't, we found, there's actually an investigation on this, too, of postcards from union members, you know, support whatever bill.
Starting point is 00:41:00 We know this is corrupt. Why do they have so much power to lobby inside the Capitol? Now, is that an answer of yes to my question? of is a lot of this about union working union workers i i have a feeling that it does i you know i can't you know who the union gives money to they're not giving it to dwayne yonker yeah i know that okay you know and you can just look on or star you can see where unions give their money it's usually not to republicans it's to the democrats um so this special session in essence could be been construed to, all right, yeah, we could save money by not filling a lot of positions and doing
Starting point is 00:41:43 things differently at Oregon Department of Transportation, but what we really need to do is get $700 million in new taxes to reward union workers, our supporters. Could it be that bad? That's cynical? Billion dollars. It's almost a billion dollars, which comes up to about $500 per household, approximately. So it's an extra billion dollars with very little to no cuts or oversight. I mean, they say, but have you really seen any oversight done in our government in Oregon? I don't think so. Not a lot. So let me then take it to, well, then let me redirect this representative, Representative Duane Yunker, State Rep. Dwayne Yonker with me. the Republican leaders in both the Senate and the House,
Starting point is 00:42:31 leader Drazen, and was it Bonham on the Senate side, they're on record talking about how horrible this special session with all of the taxes, the big taxes on gasoline, raising taxes over DMV, all sorts of things, how it's going to hurt. They're talking and they're correct when you just mentioned that it will cost the typical family about $500, a year here in Oregon, why are they willing to provide quorum?
Starting point is 00:43:02 I'm going to ask this question again, because they could just as soon stay away, couldn't they? They could stay away. And this is a tough thing for me to say. I know. I am not in leadership position. We'll just say this, and I'm going to say this. Probably going to have hurt some people's feelings.
Starting point is 00:43:27 I would just want my thing yesterday, and no leader spoke. No leader reached out to me and talked to me and said congratulations. So from that speech, you could tell what I feel about leadership. Or the lack of speech or the lack of support. The lack of support. The lack of support of standing up for your people. The caucus is willing to more or less let Dwayne Yunker or anybody else that has a strong point of view twist in the wind. Yes, because you're not going along with the system.
Starting point is 00:44:07 And I'm not saying they don't like this, but there is people within our caucus that want to be there no matter what. I know four representatives that have already spoke out that they're going to be there. So that gives them their quorum a four. Oh, they're going to get their quorum. That's right. As long as they have four. As long as you have four quislings, four quislings willing to tax it. Then, of course, it also then looks bipartisan, doesn't it, right?
Starting point is 00:44:38 It looks bipartisan. So, you know, I'm only one person, only one representative. If those four people show up no matter what, there might be five, they're going to, going to get their quorum. I can't control them. And maybe the leadership looked at the, you know, that, well, these people are going to go no matter what, we have to do, we have to have a different strategy. That could be it, too. I would imagine that there was a strategy then probably with the, the higher level folks that are saying, you know, if it just gets bad enough for the, for the people in the state of Oregon, the people will magically throw the bastard.
Starting point is 00:45:19 turns out on the other side of the aisle, and they'll vote for Republicans. I've never seen any evidence that that would occur. But I wonder if that is the naive approach to this, that we won't fight to stop this stuff from coming in. We'll allow it to happen and then say, well, look, they did it. But yeah, you permitted the process to start, though, when you had a way to stop it. I don't know. I could be wrong. Yeah, I mean, there is that, I do hear that. It hasn't gotten bad enough for people to rise up.
Starting point is 00:45:46 you know that that theory is i've heard that theory several times well the people are not have not it's not bad enough from the rise up and start voting some of the democrats that are causing problems up north out of office um look at portland they keep you know they have four socialists just elected to the office in portland and they're fleeing portland left and right yeah and even if they do they're still these people are still going to to continue to vote that way, the ones that are left, and so they'll go in. It's not exactly like when someone who's really tired of Portland flees, they get replaced by a Republican. Republican voter, right? Yeah. I think that's a bad strategy coming from the Republican leadership, because they should be
Starting point is 00:46:36 just fighting the good fight for the state in general and then let the chips fall where they may. But, all right, that's just the way it is. Dwayne, I appreciate you sharing that. I want to say congratulations that, like I said, they're not going to crucify you on this one. I'm sure that someone will probably find another way to go after you. But thank you for your candor and be willing to just say that Honeybadger, I don't, doesn't really care what they think, okay?
Starting point is 00:47:05 And I appreciate that. And keep it up. And if anything changes and maybe they will decide not to help, let us know. Could you do that? Yeah, I appreciate the people on your radio, and I appreciate the people to reach out to me. I'm going to continue to fight. That's what I signed up for. And, you know, there is a lot of, I should say, love towards me that someone's actually fighting.
Starting point is 00:47:29 And I just want to fight for my children, you know, adult children. So I'm not going anywhere until the people tell me to leave. All right. Thank you very much. State Representative, Dwayne Yonker. Take care. Be well. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:41 So, Shee before 8. This is KMED. HD-1, Eagle Point Medford, KBXG Grants, Mass.
