Starting point is 00:00:00 We do a little media stuff tonight. I mean, I've been in the media now 50 years, 5-0. I know everybody. I know how it works. I've been successful in every part of it. He's bragging again, I'm sorry, but I've got to state the facts. So the media now is in sharp decline. Donald Trump didn't just defeat Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Donald Trump defeated the Democratic Party, the All-Party, the All-Party, They don't have a leader now. And he defeated the corporate corrupt media. All the hate Trump media, defeated it, blew it out of the water. And the older media people know it. Salaries are being cut. People are being laid off. Ratings are terrible.
Starting point is 00:00:52 There's a big ship in the way Americans are getting information. They're getting it from YouTube. and other places. They're not sitting there watching Lester Holt or David Muir, and you can't even name the anchors on CBS. You can't name them. I can, but nobody else can. Okay, Dubois, he comes from Channel 2 in New York,
Starting point is 00:01:21 and Dickinson, been to CBS forever. You know them? Nobody knows them. They're not making any money, and comparatively. But it's over. So enter Leslie Stahl. I think 60 Minutes was the best television news program in history. By far.
Starting point is 00:01:46 And that was when Don Hewitt was running it. And Mike Wallace, Mortely Safer, on and on. And it was really, I watched it every Sunday. Because a lot of information, they were gutsy, stories were well told, good writing. Now 60 Minutes, it's shadow of what it used to be. And everybody knows it. But Leslie Stahl has been on that show for a long, long time. Now, I know Ms. Stahl, always been respectful to me.
Starting point is 00:02:17 When I wrote Killing Reagan, she was deeply involved in covering Ronald Reagan, and she gave me a lot of good stuff. She didn't particularly like Reagan, but that wasn't necessary. I just needed facts. Okay? And, you know, I'm nothing against Leslie Stahl. So she's at a soiree in New York City, the 92nd Y, and here's what she says. Go. But we're at a point where if the president of the United States is going to say legacy media is dead.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Well, I guess Musk said that. Legacy media is dead. And he wants it dead. He wants other media. But it is kind of sort of hobbling right now. And I don't know how it recovers. I'm very dark about it. Well, it isn't kind of.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It's in a free fall. It's always 60 minutes. Still gets older people to watch 60 minutes, but not what it used to be. and all the others, the cable news, the only cable news operation that has prospered in the last year is Fox News. And their ratings are fairly good, but declining, and they'll decline further. They'll get back to where they were, which was not a good place.
Starting point is 00:03:42 But then they went up because they, let me see what word I even used to it. they gave Trump the benefit of the doubt. Is that fair? And there were some boosters of Trump, but not everybody at Fox. I mean, you know, Kavuto, I don't like Trump. And, you know, the morning, dozy, back and forth, whatever day it is, just wind up in the air's finger. And reporters on Fox, hard news reporters, they, you know, they report.
Starting point is 00:04:17 They weren't pushing Trump. But by far, in a way, Fox News Channel was the friendliest toward Donald Trump. So the people who wanted Trump to win would gravitate toward Fox. While the other hate Trump cables, CNN and MSNBC, they split their hate audience, where an MSNBC got more than CNN in the desperate trouble. Because it's a talent vacuum. They just don't have the talent. It's like going to a professional sports.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It's like going to watch the Jets. A couple of good players, but they don't mill. There's no reason to go, all right, to watch them. They're a losing team, New York Giants. Same thing, all right? CNN doesn't have the talent to drive people to watch it. And MSNBC is just hateful. CNN can be hateful too, but so can Fox.
Starting point is 00:05:17 They all can be hateful on a campaign. occasion. But CNN has got the widest distribution. Remember, you go to the airport, there they are, you go overseas, there they are. It's huge. And at one time the preeminent TV news operation in the world, but dumb. Now, as far as what Leslie is, dark, okay, but you need to reform it. Okay, Leslie, you know, that, you're never going to come back to where you were. Ever. Never coming back to the Kronkite years because the technology is just there and it's much more convenient for the American citizen to just pick and choose that they want to watch. They don't have to sit there and, you know, they can do whatever they want. Much more
Starting point is 00:06:00 convenient. But you could bring it back to some kind of standard and make more money if you were fair. And you, Leslie, still always a fair to Trump at all. You know, that Russian collusion interview was an absolute disaster. And CBS News has still not allowed anybody to see that transcript where they're accused of helping Kamala Harris in the interview, editing the interview so it helped Kamala Harris. They won't put it out. And that's 60 minutes. Come on. I want to put that out like that. How bad can it be? And now Trump's suing him. And Trump just won the lawsuit against ABC News, $16 million. And he's got the lawsuit against CBS for doing a dishonest edit job, he says.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And I'm saying to myself, if it was up and up, why would you want to go through this lawsuit and everything else, CBS News? Just put it out. There's no law against that, by the way. There's no journalistic ethic that says you can't put out a transcript of an interview. None. Not like a violation. You know, it's funny because on my news operation, Bill O'Reilly.com, we give transcripts out every day of everything I say.
Starting point is 00:07:26 You want a transcript? We'll give it to you. You got to be in the system, our system can't just drive by, you got to be a member, but you're a member, whatever you want, we'll send it to you. We're way open. You know, I'll tell you exactly what we're doing, why we're doing it, how we reach the conclusion, and we're prospering because that's what Americans want. You know, okay, O'Reilly, you're obnoxious jerk.
Starting point is 00:07:56 You're saying that, back it up. And I go, okay, I'll back it up. That's what we do. We just don't, you know, it's like the drone thing. The drone thing. Nobody knows what? What? Oh, it could be North Korea.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Yeah. Why? Why would you say to you? Because they got to fill airtime. We don't do that. We're outraged that the states and the feds can't tell us who's putting these drones up. That's outrageous. We're not going to say they're from the Czech Republic, most in Czechoslovakia.
Starting point is 00:08:33 We're not going to say they're from Finland, because we don't know. But we do know that the people in charge are morons for keeping the information from us. They got to know. They got to have some inkling of what's happening. Anyway, let's get back to Leslie, you know, he's in her 80s. Still a good reporter, but, you know, obviously, winding down. And she's very worried about the legal media. I'm happy that the corrupt corporate media is being exposed,
Starting point is 00:09:09 and Americans are going, we don't want it. That makes me happy. Two reasons. One, I prosper from it because my independent news agency is the most successful in the world because people are going, I don't watch this anymore, we'll go over it. He may be a madman, but at least we're getting information here. And the second thing is, it's karma. You can't be dishonest and think you're going to get a web.
Starting point is 00:09:33 with it. You know, somewhere along the line, you're going to get it right between the eyes if you're bad. You're doing some dishonest. I believe that. A few gotten away, a few, but not many. Most of them get it. So anyway, that is what I have to say on the collapsing media, and I wish Leslie Stahl, very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, whatever she does. I don't think she is the problem, although she did not do a very good job interviewing Donald Trump. I don't think that was a good interview. And she's very worried about the legacy media and you should be.
