Starting point is 00:00:00 Talk about crime tonight, okay? So Mayor Adams says crime situation in New York City is much better. It's got some stats to back it up. I'm not thoroughly convinced. I think that the cops are doing a good job. I think police commissioner Edward Cabin is smart to concentrate on illegal guns and getting them off the street and hopefully brag will. prosecute the people who have them. The cops are really hyper vigilant in getting the guns under control because that drives down, as you know, violent crime. So Adams, you know, he's a benefit of the NYPD's success in that area, recent success anyway. Adam says crime is down, jobs are up, tourism is booming. Okay. Well, the only problem is, is that that is a fairly rose-colored assessment.
Starting point is 00:01:05 So the disorder in the city of New York, I think is at almost an all-time high. A lot of crimes are not reported, because people know if you get punched in a face, nothing's gonna happen to the guy who does it to you. They don't even bother taking it down to the precinct anymore, because the cops will look at it and I'm going,
Starting point is 00:01:25 what do you want me to do? I told you my story yesterday. So the reporting, of crime is way off. And that, of course, the stats will not be as bad. However, there are things like murder where murder is murder. And somebody who's shot to death or stabbed to death has to be reported. So in 2019, before COVID, 318 murders. Okay? So far, the tab in 23, I don't think it's finished yet, is 386. So we're treading water in a murder zone.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Shootings are up fairly significantly. 19-766, 23-974, almost 1,000 shootings. Again, a lot of those shootings not reported. Now, in 22, there are almost 1,300 shootings. So they've made some progress on that. But car theft is up a colossal amount. 5,500 in 2019, 16,000, 23. 16,000 cars stolen in New York City.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Chop shops are going crazy. All right. Now, that's disorder on the street. That's what that is. The other thing that called my eye is felony assault. So 19, again before COVID, about 21,000 felony assaults. That means you get hurt. Somebody hurts you, seriously.
Starting point is 00:03:06 In 22, 26,000. Last year, 28,000. And that goes to disorder on the street. People getting jumped. That kind of thing. So I'm disagreeing with Eric Adams. I don't think that New York City is in good shape crime-wise. All right, there are some things that are getting better.
Starting point is 00:03:43 But disorder, public disorder, is getting worse. Adam says New York remains the safest big city in America. I don't think so. I think Boston is a much safer city, the New York. All right, Charlotte, North Carolina is a safer city. And I could give you 10 others. But, you know, the mayor is going to put a happy face on crime because he wants to be reelected. But in New York, we do have a crime problem, and certainly we have a social disorder problem.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And we will continue to have that as long as the district attorneys and the legislature in Albany are soft on punishing criminals. That is the way to stop the madness, the felony assaults, and all of that.
