Starting point is 00:00:00 So as some of you know, I live out on the east end of Long Island. I have a house out there, and I live in Nassau County, too, and I'm lucky enough to be able to do that. And I wake up yesterday morning and see that someone painted swat stick is in Montauk, and I was surprised. because Montauk is a very benign town and I've never seen any social problems there ever but some not did this so I got to thinking about it and what that person who painted the swat stigas wanted
Starting point is 00:00:52 was attention they didn't want to be named but he wants to get police publicity for whatever neurosis he's carrying around. That's why these people do these things. They're not going to accomplish anything. And if they get caught, it's a hate crime. In New York, they wouldn't do time, but they'll get punished a little bit. So then I thought about it a little further.
Starting point is 00:01:18 And a friend of mine called me up a reporter and said, how should I cover this? And I said, find a psychiatrist who can explain. explain what the mental illness is that drives people to do these kinds of things, whether it be a swat sticker or anti-black or anti-Irish or anti-anything. What is the mental illness? I think that would be very instructive. So I'm not qualified to do mental analysis, but I do know that if you do that kind of a thing, you have to hate yourself. You can't like yourself and paint a swat sticker on someplace.
Starting point is 00:02:05 You can't. You've got to be angry and depressed probably and all you've got to be a mess, a mental mess. That's what this is all about, mental illness. It's not about politics. It's not about any of that. It's mental illness. And you can see it all throughout history. that the people who are the most unhappy with their lives are the people who lash out in this way. And the best example is the German people in the 1930s. They had lost World War I. They were destitute in many places in Germany. They had nothing.
Starting point is 00:02:52 The morale across the board was horrible. And then all of a sudden, this guy rises up and says, oh, it's not your fault. These people did it to you. And the Jews were the top people who did all this to you as the Jews did it. So these unhappy people in Germany, they had somebody to hate. Like the terrorists hate the Jews, right? And the Germans hated the Jews because the Jews did all this to it. Now, that's a bunch of garbage.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Just totally innocent in Germany and didn't do anything to anybody, ever. But that's what drove that. Was deep unhappiness, deep anger, and misguided everything. So I don't feel sorry for this guy in Montauk who did this. Swatzaker thing, but I do realize he's mentally ill. This separates me from most other people. Just because you're mentally ill, I don't feel sorry for you. This guy's probably dangerous who did this, because this is really outrageous.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And, you know, if they catch him, he should be punished, harshly punished. I'd give him time. This would be two years in a penitentiary, if I were the judge, I sent him upstate for two years. and he's mentally, oh, well, I'll get him a little treatment up there. But that's not my main concern. My main concern is protecting people from him. And the odds that it's a him are about 98%. The women you don't usually do this stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Anyway, that's my take on it. Montauk is an excellent place. I feel terrible for everybody there, but it's not their fault. It's mental illness.
