Starting point is 00:00:00 So the Governor Hokel gave her state of the state address on Tuesday. Now, here is the problem, the essential problem, with Kathy Hokel. Not a bad person. And she is what they call a machine politician. So upstate New York played the game. Cuomo didn't want a strong lieutenant governor. Pointed her liberal woman, but not out of control liberal, like a lot of legislature is. She takes over for Cuomo. The problem now is she is not a problem solver.
Starting point is 00:00:39 So I've looked at her record from the very beginning of her political career. I can't find any problems that she's ever solved. Okay? Now, she's not a bad person. As I said, it's not, and I don't think she's a loon of the left. But she's scared of them, and she plays their game. So it really doesn't matter, does it? So in her state of the state, she basically knows that New Yorkers, most clear-thinking voters, know the state's in major trouble. Highest taxed state and the union.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Public disorder all over the place in New York City and other large towns across the state. No bail law. expenses to live in New York State, particularly downstate, through the roof. Traffic congestion, incredible. Big problems. Hundreds of thousands of people moving out. Hockel knows all this. Hockel also knows her job approval rating is falling fast
Starting point is 00:01:53 because she has not been able to solve any meaningful problems. And now that she got the migrants all over the place. All right? So she gives her address and she says, okay, we need to change course or something like that. All right? We've got to do things differently. And I'm going to punish the shoplifters. And because so many stores are going out of business, because people are shoplifting, stealing, and nothing happens to them.
Starting point is 00:02:27 But Governor Hogle can't stop the shoplifter. What's she going to do? The DAs have to enforce the law, and they won't. They're all progressives. So what's Governor Hokel going to do? She can't enforce the law. She can't make arrests. She can't demand judges give bail,
Starting point is 00:02:46 and they're not allowed to give bail to people who shoplift. You literally cannot give bail to these people under the law that the progressives passed. So, Hogle didn't throw the progressives under the bus, as she should have, because she needs their support, but she said, well, we're going to course correct a little bit. But she didn't say how. How are you going to do it? What are you going to do about taxes?
Starting point is 00:03:17 Highest in the nation, you're going to cut them? No. New York City is going to get whacked with this congestion pricing. And more money coming out of people's pocket, working people. So what are you going to do? You can't afford to live in the city. And you very hard to afford living downstate. Upstate's a little bit different.
Starting point is 00:03:41 So she said, well, okay, but we're going to build a lot of lower income housing. Okay, nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't intrude on a town and change the dynamic of the town, as long as you've got the property and you're not, you know, setting up an irresponsible situation. like the New York City Housing Authority has. You know, some of those projects are as dangerous as any place on earth to live in those places. So I assume that's not going to happen throughout New York State, but I don't know. But the goal of having affordable housing is a good one.
Starting point is 00:04:17 But after listening to the state of the state, am I optimistic that Kathy Hochel is going to solve major problems? I am not.
